Analysis Of The Book Chapter Eighty
Chapter Sixty Closure Kramer sat there like he was sitting on a hard seat at Nuremburg. Not
having enough courage to look his captors in the eyes. He felt their a furtive glare that penetrated
the inner core of a two bit coward that hated himself as much as he hated existing with what he
deemed lowlifes. Lujack put a call through to Argyle s home. The Texan s heart skipped a beat
when Hanna answered the phone. With Kramer in earshot range, he gave her the newsflash that
they had their Nazi. Putting a little sarcastic humor to good use, he announced the former
commandant s name as Herr Josef Kramer. By the yelp he heard on the other end, meant the

Short Essay On Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs
The Man Who Made Apple
Inventor, Genius, and Hot Tempered are words I would use to describe Steve Jobs. Many
people know that Jobs was the man who made Apple, but he was so much more. As a well
known entrepreneur, Steve Jobs showed the world that electronics could be so much more. He
left a lasting legacy as the man who made our iPhones, iPads, iPods, and Macs. The early life of
Steve Jobs was quite elaborate. The creator was not raised by his biological parents. Jobs was
born on February 24, 1955 in San Francisco to two unwed graduate school students. His maternal
grandfather did not approve of his daughter keeping the baby because she was unwed, and the
father of the baby was not a Catholic like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jobs met Steve Wozniak, his lifetime Apple partner through a mutual friend. As he grew older,
Jobs became close to his sister Mona Simpson. Steve Jobs was friends with Microsoft s founder,
Bill Gates. The CEO s normal attire was a turtle neck shirt and jeans. Steve Jobs married
Laurene Powell on March 18, 1991. Buddhism and his adult life were major influences on Apple.
(newworldencyclopedia.com pg. 2) Steve Jobs created Apple due to many calls to change. As a
child, Steve Jobs experimented with many things. Jobs had an interest in machines ever since he
was a child. Jobs was also a very smart, but not a very good student. Steve Jobs became involved in
electronics because of a neighbor who was an engineer. Jobs s call to change also came as an adult.
(Pollack and Belviso pg. 1) As an adult, Steve Jobs was dissatisfied with the electronics, this was a
major factor in the creation of apple. Jobs was a technician at Atari before Apple. Jobs also worked
at Hewlett Packard for a summer job. Steve Jobs s major goal for Apple was to make a computer
for people to love. Apple s creator s calls to change happened both during his childhood and
adulthood.

A Comparison Of Beyond The Love Story And West Side Story
Beyond the love story People are always rewriting other people s stories consciously or
unconsciously cutting and trimming, pasting, rearranging, and adjusting to new times and
circumstances, sometimes adding truly creative elements and occasionally actually improving on
the original. The Tragicall Historye of Romeus and Juliet which was a narrative poem by Arthur
Brooke is considered to be William Shakespeares base source for his famous play Romeo and Juliet
(Mabillard). West Side Story (1961) is a widely acclaimed, melodramatic musical a modern day,

will not be allowed to marry. However, they marry in secret instead. Unfortunately, Romeo kills
Juliet s cousin in a duel, and he is forced to leave Verona. If he ever returns to the city, he will be
executed. Juliet s parents told her she must marry Paris. Her parents do not know she is already
married. She refuses in the beginning, but later agrees because she plans to fake her death and
escape to be with Romeo forever. However, Romeo does not know about the plan, visits her
grave, thinks she is dead, and kills himself. When Juliet finally wakes up, she discovers that
Romeo is dead and then kills herself. West Side Story involves a feuding between two teenage
street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds. The white Jets led by Riff and the Puerto Rican
Sharks, led by Bernardo who has a younger sister, Maria. Maria is engaged to Chino, but is
unhappy with their relationship. One day, Tony and Maria meet by chance and immediately fall
in love despite being affiliated with opposite gangs. They continue to meet privately, as an
increase in violence between the Jets and Sharks has forced them to keep their love completely
secret. The movie ends with Tony gunned down by Chino out of jealousy and revenge. Chino is
taken into custody by Officer Krupke, and the Jets and Sharks finally achieve peace, as they work

Attention Deficit Hyper Activity Disorder
I chose to complete the Psychology 1000 Mental Disorder Project on Attention Deficit/ Hyper
Activity Disorder because I was diagnosed with Predominately Inattentive Attention Deficit
Disorder at age 5 which caused me to struggle academically all through grade school and into high
school. I was given an Individual Education Plan for mathematics in grade school that was
supposed to help me succeed but hardly did that because to this day I still cannot do math at a
college level. Around age 5, I was put on the methylphenidateRitalin to help me concentrate in
school but it caused stomach ulcers and I lost a lot of weight due to me getting a stomach ache
after taking the pill. Even though according to Timely Data Resources Inc. they say children are
at increased risk of being overweight and the extent to which treatment with stimulant medications
alters this association. But with my personal side effects to the treatment I became extremely
underweight, which lead to my doctor prescribing me the methylphenidate Concerta that is
similar to Ritalin but is a time release tablet that helped me do better in school. I only had to take
one pill a day unlike Ritalin where I had to take a pill with breakfast and then another one with
lunch. I also gained all my weight back while taking Concerta because the ulcers and the upset
stomach went away. Because I was originally prescribed Ritalin my doctor wanted to keep me on
the same type of drug and according to WebMD.com

The Kansas State University Orchestra Conducted
I recently attended the Kansas State University Orchestra conducted by Dr. David Littrell and
graduate student Travis Hale. The orchestra featured four pieces, Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D
Minor composed by Johann Sebastian Bach, Petite Suite composed by Claude Debussy arranged
by Henri Busser, Overture to La Gazza Ladra(The Thieving Magpie) composed by Gioachino
Rossini, and Overture to Le roi d Ys composed by Edouard Lalo. The first piece of music
performed was the Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Minor. The melody of this piece was very
conjunct and smooth. The pitches fit together well and were played staccato, but in the Air,
portion the melody became more legato. Since a suite is a collection of dances this is very
metric. It is very easy to find a beat and tap your toe to the beat. Every movement of this suite
was very easy to find the beat. I believe the piece was in a quadruple meter because the continuo,
played by the double bass, could be counted into four. The dynamics were very moderate staying
within the range of forte and piano, which is typical of the baroque period when this piece was
written. The piece was polyphonic and each section had their own parts that worked together to
make the piece. The piece could also be considered a call and response in the Bouree and Gigue
movements. The violins and woodwinds would play a part of the melody and then the brass and
bass would come in with a short response to their melody. The next piece performed was Petite Suite

Brutus Tragic Hero
Aristotle is a Greek philosopher who is famous around the world for his plays. The specialty
enclosed in Aristotle s plays is that it determines the statuses of the characters created by setting
rules on what each character should portray, such as tragic hero. Poetics discusses Aristotle s
definition of tragedyand lists the traits required for a characterto be considered a tragic hero.
William Shakespeare also diversifies his characters to have various roles for his characters similar
to Aristotle s character traits for tragic hero. Based on Aristotle s definition of tragic hero, Marcus
Brutus is the tragic hero of the play, thus justifying the title of the play Julius Caesar. One of the

The Generation Of The Boomer Generation
Today, three generations work side by side in American businesses, each with their own differing
values. Managers need to recognize their unique characteristics and plan accordingly.
The term Generation Gap entered our daily lexicon in the 1960s when members of the Boomer
generation were teenagers. It recognized the chasm that existed between the Boomers and their
parents in regard to their divergent political views, taste in music, the clothes they wore, and
professional goals:
Baby Boomers hoping for early retirement received a loud wake up call when the economy receded
around them. It looks like many will be on the job for years to come in order to pay off their
mortgaged lifestyles.
That doesn t bode well for Generation Xers, who have been positioning themselves for further
advancement in hopes of an exodus by those Boomers, who might seem old and in the way rather
than mentors of knowledge.
And young Generation Yers are left scrambling for whatever entry level jobs remain in an ever
shrinking and increasingly competitive American workplace.
The entire work environment has been sent spinning as three generations of workers compete for
fewer positions, all complicated by rapid advances in office and communications technologies that
are eagerly embraced by younger workers while seemingly threatening to older ones. What s a
manager to do? Yesterday s and Today s Gap

Music Censorship Pros And Cons
In today s politically correct world I m sure there s a lot of music censorship goes on in our nation

when I was younger and that was when the straight out of Compton album released by the group
NWA. In 1988 a sub genre of music dubbed gangster rap come from the underground into American
mainstream, this type of music became quite popular among young African Americans in the inner
city of America. It wasn t until the music became popular with white suburban teenagers that the
public in general stood up and took notice to try and censor this particular genre of music. In 1985
a committee was formed called the parents music resource Center (PMRC)

Greenbush Vs. Burke Heights
Greenbush vs. Burke Heights
This report will be on the research I have discovered first hand as well as through statistical data that
compares and contrasts the neighborhoods of Greenbush and Burke Heights, both located in
Madison, Wisconsin. When researching these two neighborhoods, I focused on the neighborhoods
housing statistics, demographics of their residents, and the money circulating within the
neighborhoods. Another aspect I paid attention to while comparing the neighborhoods was the
economic and employment opportunities available within the communities. These benefits directly
correlate to the amount of capital that is available for residents. Lastly, I took note of the
entertainment, retail, and physical possibilities that prevailed in these neighborhoods.
The first subject I will compare is the housing within each neighborhood. First, in the Greenbush
neighborhood, the majority of people are either college students or young adults between the ages
of twenty and thirty two. It was obvious this age group lived in these homes seeing the dГ©cor on
the front porches and the cars in the driveways. The average household income ranges between
seventy and eighty five thousand dollars per year (StatisticalAtlas). Just walking down the street I
noticed most of the lots are designated for either college students, expensive residential homes, or
parks with green spaces. The neighborhoods average price for a normal sized home would range
between three hundred and three

Comparing Women Of Athens And Sparta
The position and roles of women in society have generally improved over time. These factors,
however, differ from region to region because different properties determine them. They include
laws, cultures, and community set up. The same elements described the position and roles of
women in ancient Greece. The two major cities with contrasting perceptions of women were
Athens and Spartan. These areas had different cultures and set ups. Athens was a developed city at
the time and consisted of a number of scholars ranging from philosophers to artists. Spartan, on the
other hand, had a military like lifestyle and not so many scholars. These differences shaped the
roles of women in different aspects of the two communities. The difference in positions led several
philosophers and writers to put down texts on this subject. This essay refers to these texts to
compare the women of Athens and Spartaand show the general inequality they experienced.
Women in Athens had close to zero rights. They lived in a society that was dominated by men
who preferred to isolate them. Women could not participate in public and civic matters especially
politics. Citizens were the only ones that could get involved in civic issues. At the time, only men
could be citizens (O Pry 8). However, the Royal and a few freeborn women could make a
contribution to political issues, a fact that displeased most men. Aristotle writes in On a Good Wife
that a woman should not bother with public issues. He goes on to

Merella, the queen of the sea, Hydor never thought that she would be anything more than just a
princess. Hydor awoke from her slumber and took her morning swim throughout the underwater
kingdom. A sparkle in the distance caught her eye and she rushed towards it. It was a heart
shaped locket that belonged to her grandmother. She hurried back to the lavish palace where her

She zoomed across the ocean to where the dark demigoddess stood waiting for the water nymph.
The two lashed out in a vigorous fight. They exploded in extreme power. The two were whipped

The Donner Party Essay
The Donner Party The Donner Party was a catastrophic event that happened in the late 1840 s. It
was a famous misfortune that had occurred in the spring of 1846. As a matter of fact, it was led
by two wealthy brothers, Jacob and George Donner. As well as, nearly 90 emigrants left
Springfield, Illinois and headed west. They attempted to take a shorter route to California, but were
unsuccessful and as a result, they got trapped by heavy snowfall in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
While following the regular California trail, the emigrants decided to take a shorter route suggested
by a trail guide, Lansford Hastings. By all means, he assured them there was an easier passage
through the Wasatch Mountains. With this in mind,

Rosecrans s Battle At Chickamauga
In September of 1863 Major General William S. Rosecrans was on a roll. He and his Union Army
of the Cumberland had initiated their campaign in Tennessee against Confederate General Braxton
Bragg in December of the previous year. After fighting a major battle at Murfreesboro (Stones
River) and maneuvering adroitly to force the Confederates out of Tullahoma and then Chattanooga,
Rosecrans had driven Bragg s army completely out of Tennessee and into northern Georgia.
But now Bragg was through retreating. He had received enough reinforcements, including troops
from Robert E. Lee s Army of Northern Virginia under James Longstreet, to have numerical
superiority over Rosecrans, and he meant to make aggressive use of that advantage.

Gen Thomas J Wood, Union General at the Battle of Chickamauga
General Thomas J. Wood (Wikimedia)
Having been erroneously informed by staff officers that a gap had formed in the Union line
facing the Confederates, Rosecrans quickly ordered Brigadier General Thomas J. Wood to take
his division and close the gap. But in pulling his force out of its position and moving it to close a
gap that didn t exist, Wood opened up a real one.
It so happened that General Longstreet was already preparing an attack on just the position Wood
was moving away from. Longstreet s troops quickly poured through the now all too real gap in the
Union line, cutting the Northern force in two.
The result was little short of an absolute rout of the Federal army, with most of the troops,
including Rosecrans himself, along with most of his generals, running as fast as they could in
disorganized retreat back to the hoped for safety of Chattanooga. Only a heroic stand by General
George H. Thomas, who would thereafter be known as The Rock of Chickamauga, prevented the
total disintegration of the Northern

Essay about Microbial Desalination Cells
Microbial Desalination Cells
Desalination is the removal of salt from seawater to provide freshwater especially in developing
countries. Currently, MFCs (Microbial Fuel Cells) have generated electricity from biomass using
bacteria. These microbes cause an electric current where electrons flow from the anode to the
cathode where the reduction of oxygen occurs. A revolutionary new method called MDCs
(Microbial Desalination Cells) could potentially desalinate water and produce energy depending
on the design or set up of the cell. This process is similar to water electrodialysis but uses bacteria
as the source of energy rather than an external source. If the set up of the MDC is altered to

The Politics And Last National Security Essay
Arms Trade, Weapons Sales, Armament Sales are just few terms used for the manufacture and sale
or trade of devices to protect a country, attack another and quite possibly benefit economically, or
politically on a global scale. Countries, entities, factions, make, sell, and give things of destruction
to others. This is a reality. The intent of this paper is to provide information that individuals can use
to determine the necessity. The economics, the politics and last the National Securityare the three
main discussion points.
History
History of Arms Trade, Weapons Trade or the trade any of items necessary to protect, feed or
conquer dates back to the dawn of time. Scholars note that arms trade or weapons trade could be
traced back 300,000 years (Thieme). As humans evolved and interacted with each other, scholars
speculate that the trade of many things occurred. The trade would include stories, knowledge,
which can be considered intangibles, then the tangibles, seeds for food, things to make tools, how
to make a shelter, weapons for protection and survival. Basically trade included instruction and
things needed for every aspect of life; to survive. Agers 2
Elements of Thought
Think about it this way. You have a clan or tribe with really good sharp rocks and a clan or tribe
with really good wood staffs. You put both together you have a more lethal device, for protection
and providing food. An item that was designed to help a human to survive evolved

Photosynthesis and Respiration
All organisms on earth depend on photosynthesis, in which light energy is used to make sugar and
other food molecules from carbon dioxide and water. For example, plants and other photo
synthesizers need only energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide from air, and water from the soil to
make the sugar glucose. Photosynthesisis the most important chemical process on earth because it
provides food for virtually all organisms, not only for photo synthesizers but for the organisms that
eat them. Plants can capture the energy of the sun by a chemical process called photosynthesis.
This chemical reaction can be described by the following simple equation:
6CO2 + 6H2O + light energy = C6H12O6 + 6O2
The product of photosynthesis is a carbohydrate, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The CO2 is converted into malic acid and then converted back to CO2 during the day when light
is present, thus producing sugars, while the stomata are closed and greatly reducing water loss.
Plants convert the energy from light into simple sugars, such as glucose. This food may be
converted back to water and carbon dioxide, releasing the stored energy through a process called
respiration. This energy is required for growth in nearly all organisms. Simple sugars are also
converted to other sugars and starches (carbohydrates) which may be transported to the stems and
roots for use or storage, or they may be used as building blocks for more complex structures, e.g.
oils, pigments, proteins, cell walls, etc. Photosynthesis is dependent on the availability of light. In
other words, as sunlight increases in intensity photosynthesis increases. This results in greater food
production. Many garden crops, such as tomatoes, respond best to maximum sunlight. Tomato
production is cut drastically as light intensities drop. Only two or three varieties of greenhouse
tomatoes will produce any fruit when sunlight is minimal in fall and spring. Water plays an
important role in photosynthesis in several ways. First, it maintains a plant s turgor or the firmness
or fullness of plant tissue. Turgor pressure in a cell can be compared to air in an inflated balloon.
Water pressure or turgor is needed in plant cells to maintain shape and ensure

Aid, Policy and Growth: The Case of St. Lucia
Abstract
This paper takes a look at aid, policy and growth literature using data from St. Lucia, a country that
received $24,000,000 US dollars in 2014. Our findings suggest that aid, in the presence of sound
economic policy, does not contribute to growth in St. Lucia. However, this study does find
statistical evidence to suggest that democratic governance and openness and monetary policy does
impact the effectiveness of aid in St. Lucia.

Today, there is a tremendous amount of literature on the relationship between aid and growth
(Hudson, 2004). McGilivray provides a recent comprehensive survey of the theoretical and
empirical literature on foreign aid and growth. (McGillivray, 2006) A study conducted by
McGillivray demonstrates how aid to African countries not only increases growth but also reduces
poverty. Furthermore, the author points out the important fact that continuously growing poverty,
mainly in sub Saharan African countries, compromises the MDGs (Millennium Development Goals
) main target of dropping the percentage of people living in extreme poverty to half the 1990
level by 2015. His research econometrically analyzes empirical, time series data for 1968 1999.
The paper concludes that the policy regimes of each country, such as inflation and trade openness,
influence the amounts of aid received. (McGillivray, 2006).
Ouattara (Ouattara, 2006) analyzes the effects of aid flows on key fiscal aggregates in Senegal.
The paper utilizes data over the period of 1970 2000 and primarily focuses on the interaction
between aid and debt. The author determined three main outcomes of his study. First, that a large
portion of aid flows, approximately 41%, are used to finance Senegal s debt and 20% of the

Test Two Different Cooling Methods On Murrah Buffalo Under...
The purpose of this journal article was to test two different cooling methods on Murrah buffalo
under heat stressed conditions. Summarizing the study, they selected 12 Murrah buffalo that had
previously calved 2 or 3 before and were in early, 50 70 days, lactation during the study. The trial
took place for a span of 60 days, 30 during the May June months and the other 30 in the August
September months. 6 buffalo were placed under constantly running water showers (Group 1),
while the other 6 were allowed to wallow in a water pond from 11 A.M. to 4 P.M (Group 2). They
collected blood samples from both groups on 3 day intervals for both trial time periods, specifically
testing for plasma thyroxine (T4), triiodothyronine (T3), cortisol, and insulinhormones. During the
study the buffalo had ad lib water and access to green maze fodder. They wanted to also see how
differences in humidity would impact the effectiveness of the cooling methods and how it would
impact the buffalos milk and feed yields. The average temperature humidity index (THI) was
80.3% during the hot dry season and 83.6 during the hot humid season. The results showed that
the buffalo that wallowed in the water pond had a higher average plasma T4 and insulin level
compared to those under water showers in the hot dry season. Plasma T3 levels weren t noticeably
different between Group 1 and 2. Although Plasma cortisol concentration in Group 1 were higher
when compared to Group 2 (4.80 vs. 2.60 ng/ml). In the

Shoot The Ball
Have you ever seen someone shoot the ball from half court before. I am going to be talking
about playing a game of basketball and shooting from the three, half court , and dunking the ball.
Also i am going to be telling you how to play the game of basketball. I have been playing basketball
since i was 9 years old. I know how to shoot the ball from the three point line and make it every
time. It just depends on how tall you are and how high the hoop is that you are playing on. My dad
taught me how to playand shoot the ball. Also he taught me how to dribble the ball while looking
at the person who is guarding me. The time we went to the championship i was the first person to
score the first five points in that game. I know how to dunk while playing basketball. I know how to
because i can jump high and throw it in the hoop. But how you play you have to five people on

Music Analysis of Hakuna Matata Essay
The end of a semester is the most stressful time for students because of those dreaded finals.
Anyone who lived through the 1990s should know the song a young lion and his pals sang after
meeting for the first time. However, as the years pass by, society forgets the simple pleasures of
youth and the two words that can make all troubles go away. Hakuna Matata was a song written
by Tim Rice with music by Elton John. This song is also a story about a warthog before he
discovered this amazing expression. However, the biggest part of the song is about being carefree
and forgetting any troubles that may arise. As finals approach, a student needs to revisit their
childhood past and recall the wonderful phrase:

The characters that teach and sing the song, Timon and Pumbaa, are supposed to represent a
simpler, easier, and more relaxed way of life. The song is only five lines being used repetitively.
This helps emphasize the theme.
Pumbaa, the warthog, shows that before he learned about Hakuna Matata he was miserable. The
second section of the song shows how embarrassed he really was: Timon He found his aroma
lacked a certain appeal, He could clear the savanna after every meal (The Lion King).
This warthog had things rough, he was always in pain. Pumbaa And it hurt when my friends never

position like Pumbaa s, how would you feel? He was discouraged:

necessarily use farting as a way to alleviate the stress of finals, though for some it might work. A

The Soviet Union During The Cold War
In 1989, history in the West abruptly shifted course. The communist regimes in Eastern Europe fell,
severing these nations ties to the Soviet Union and sparking unprecedented political and economic
reforms. Two years later, the Soviet Union itself disintegrated. The Cold War ended along with it, a
sharply defined historical era stretching back to 1914. The end of the Cold War renewed the
commitment to democracy and capitalism in the West, accelerated the existing movement toward
unification in Europe, and left the United States standing as the sole military superpower in the
world. But the collapse of communism did not end all the anxieties present during the Cold War

Who likes to wash their car? Who wants to buy their own groceries? Who wants to cook their own
food?
These companies have been able to provide services at a price that is reasonable and allows
consumers to relax and limit their stress levels. One of the main issues that can arise in this
industry is that the companies can lose sight of the customer experience. What I mean by this is
that hyper growth companies achieve growth by growing users. How do you grow users? You
focus the majority of your efforts on application development and make your platform as user
friendly as possible. This is great for those who try out the application but becomes a problem for
those who end up using it frequently. What happens when you have an issue with the car you
rented out? What about if your meal kit is missing items? What about if you have complaints about
your experience? What happens when your Uber driver gets into an accident and you are hurt?
What happens if your mechanic purchased the wrong part or can t find your address?
Typically, customers will go either to the app storeor to social media to complain if they don t
receive the level of service they expected. This is a massive problem because that is the first place
people look before downloading your application. There has to be a way to mitigate this risk

transaction processing systems, is extracted and summarised then stored in in a data warehouse.
This type of information includes records about customer interaction patens, customer purchasing

Reduced risks and costs will make it easier for REI business expansion without fear of risks

Lack of proper skills and experience. Most people have to go through at least one failure before
they understand how different a data warehouse is from a transaction processing system or small

What fuels the desire of wanting to go watch a horror film? As a society, naturally, we do not

The old tendency to dismiss the Hollywood cinema as escapist always defined escape merely
negatively as escape from, but escape logically must also be escape to. (Wood 30) A dream does
not necessarily have to be good or bad, but it is an escape from reality, no matter what form it s
presented in. Reality can seem dull and audiences who choose to go watch a horror movie tend
to watch it for controlling the idea of the repressed, things that cannot be controlled by the
conscious mind. The idea can be represented from outside or inside of the community and then
annihilated, further emphasizing the idea of otherness . The 1920 film can be depicting Europe

Aristophanes Speech On Love And Happiness
The philosopher I have chosen for this assignment is Plato, in Symposium. Based on the readings
of The Speech of Aristophanes, the theorist Aristophanes states that the key to love and happiness
is the search to finding ones other half , in which the couple becomes together or whole . In the
quest to becoming one , the individuals find themselves in a lifelong togetherness, what some
claim to be considered finding your soul mate When becoming whole the newly formed
partnership embrace in sexual relations and share experiences with one another. In order to fully
understand Aristophanes concept of erotic love, it is imperative to summarize and highlight details
of the story in The Speech of Aristophanes. The form of Aristophanes speech, comes in as a myth
of a story long ago where there were three genders: male, female and androgynous, all of which
were twice what they humans are now. For example, two sets of hands and two sets of legs. Though
the gods hated these beings, they knew they could not kill them, as forfeiting humans as sacrifices.
So, in replace Zeus decided to cut the humans into two, but keeping them whole on either side,
including their genitals. Because the humans, now half, had been whole for so long, they
constantly had urges to find their other half to make them whole again, which begins Aristophanes
theory of longing for one another. When found by another half, the couple would embrace in sexual
activity and not want anything else,

Women And Women Of The Chesapeake Area During The...
As Martha Ballard writes in her diary, A womans work is never Done as the Song says and
Happy is shee [sp] whose strength holds out to the end of the rais [race]. Women, like Ballard,
contributed useful and skilled labor, though it was often derided, mocked, or overlooked.
However, the work of women varied greatly, due to location, social class, race, time period, and
more. This essay will focus on two very different groups of women, early female settlers of the
Chesapeake area during the seventeenth century and the Native American women of the Iroquois
Confederacy, spread across northeastern New York and Ontario during the same time period.
Through the analysis, the necessity of the study of women s work will become evident; it aids
historians in understanding women s past: including genderperceptions, the myriad of experiences
faced by different women, and the changes over that occurred over time.
Though traditional history books paint the workers in the United States as all male, the women
were very much a part of the labor force. However, the way in which labor affected gender roles
very much differed. In some examples, work broke down gender roles. In the rice fields, both
male and female African slaves were forced to work side by side. This is interesting because in
rice producing countries of Africa, women were the sole producers of rice. On the other hand, the
British had seen agriculture as a man s work, and women typically only worked in the fields during

Physics in Cameras
Cameras have been a popular device ever since they were invented during the late 1800 s.
Cameras are electronics that give us the ability to capture a moment with the push of a button.
These little machines allow a real life image to be seen on paper and to be kept as a memento.
The way that cameras are able to do this is through physics. Cameras are relatable to physics
because they involve visible light, light refraction, light reflections, and electromagnetic fields in
the motor. Cameras are involved with physics because they use visible light to capture a picture.
Visible light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum. The electromagnetic spectrum contains
different wavelengths and frequencies. The visible light spectrum is the part of the electromagnetic
spectrum that humans can see. Specific wavelengths in the spectrum are represented by specific
colors. This is how humans are able to perceive colors, through visible light. When a camera
captures an image, it uses visible light to capture the different wavelengths. These wavelengths are
seen as different colors which come together to create the image. Visible light is what allows the
colors that create the image to be seen when the picture is captured.
Cameras are also involved with physics because they use light refraction to focus the image. Light
refraction is the change in the speed of light when it enters a medium of a different speed. For
example, lenses on a camera are mediums that refract light. The light wave

Bdsm Psychopathology

The practice of BDSM is not a pathology, it is a pathway to pleasure.
The practice of bondage discipline, dominance submission, sadism masochism (BDSM) is heavily
associated with psychopathology. However, BDSMmay be thought of as a recreational leisure,
rather than the expression of psychopathological processes. The essential structures of the BDSM
experience are discussed in terms of authentic concept, association with psychopathology, and how
sex education might diffuse stigma and warn of the risks of this life style. Sexuality, in all its
forms, is incredibly variable so much so that we might do better to consider that incredible
variability the norm. Our genes, our environments, our experiences these things are what make us
individuals, with slightly different behaviors, emotions, desires and erotic fingerprints. Like many,
many other sexual behaviors, BDSM is part of a normative sexual experience that feels healthy and

Female Convicts As A Subject Of Historical Discussion
There has been a lack of interest in female convicts as a subject of historical discussion. The
history of female convicts has traditionally been incorporated into the framework of male convicts
with grave reference to the male convict experience. The convict women who were transported to
Australia on ships Elizabeth 5th and Henry Wellesley in 1836 faced extreme difficulty in
achieving freedom and reputability. It is the view of many historians that women were
incorporated into a pattern initially designed to accommodate men . This essay will investigate the
origins and characteristics of a sample of 10 female convicts arriving to Sydney in1836. The essay
aims to establish an alternative impression of the female convicts that were deemed damned
whores, skill less and prostitutes. In agreement with the 4 of the 5 studied historians, I hold the
view that the women were the victims of a repressive patriarchal society and the appellation of
female convicts as damned whores is totally inadequate. I believe they were not members of a
professional criminal class; they were humans with basic human needs, doing anything they could
to survive. The female convicts exported to Australia have been the subjects of investigation since
transportation commenced. Many historians set out to determine whether the female convicts were
vicious criminals or innocent victims . Garton s article researches the debate concerning the origins
and characteristics of the convicts being

between modern day technology and the inventions throughout history. The use of something such
as the Stirrup that now seems so small would eventually lead to the then unimaginable creation of
long distance communication that is now something within our lives that we could not imagine
being without. Connection s: Distant Voices shows this historical development throughout the
episode with a linear path from warfare, making the English language dominant, to creating contests
that would make people better known upon winning, causing organized classes and changes... Show

When this problem was brought to the attention of a certain French scientist and mathematician,
Blaise Pascal, he and Otto von Guericke did several experiments with suction which eventually
led to the discovery of the vacuum. This discovery of the vacuum led to the discovery of
something we live with every single day, electricity. The discovery of electricity was due to
another French astronomer, Jean Picard, who was carrying a mercury filled barometer back to
his observatory. What is now known as Barometric light was the astounding glow that was
coming from the barometer as Jean Picard was carrying it, he later discovers it was his hand
rubbing against the glass that had caused such a reaction to happen within the tube. This
discovery had taken europe by storm as an Electricity Craze spread across europe as well, giving
birth to many early static electricity machines to see what it could do to the human body. Further
investigation into the abilities of electricity led to the first known battery, consisting of wires, metal
tools, and a jar of water, which they learned had the properties to hold an electrical

Marijuana Argumentative Report
Throughout time there has always been a debate on whether or not marijuana should be legal or
not. The most recent drug survey, conducted in March 2015, finds that a slim majority (53%) of
Americans say Marijuana should be made legal, compared with 44% who want it to be illegal ,
and the opinions have changed drastically since 1969, when only 12% favored legalizing marijuana
use. Marijuana is a plant that people use for various things, including medicinal use, recreational
use, and personal use. Although most people believe marijuana is a dangerous drugand inflicts
damage to society, legalizing it actually has many benefits, from marijuana having positive health

Not only but also isn t as dangerous as most drugs that are legal in America for example legal
drugs like tobacco, alcohol and even household items like glue and paint that are being taken

the costs of keeping marijuana illegal by billions of dollars and use that tax money on other
important things and have police officers focus on the serious offenders rather than some young
adult with possession of a harmless drug (marijuana). Lastly, skeptics about the legalization of
marijuana having no benefits at all but I supported my argument by saying that out of all the legal

The Progression Of Succession Through Facilitation And...
Abstract To collect data on the primary succession as new sand dunes form from the waters of Lake
Michigan. To examine hypotheses relating to the progression of succession through facilitation and
other species interactions and to examine how biotic and abiotic rigor change through time as
succession proceeds. To further examine these concepts, we have gathered and conducted five tests.
Our first experiment dealt with soildevelopment, to show how soil changes and developments have
advanced throughout the dunes. A second experiment has been taken to show the variations in
diversity among the five dunes. The third was to examine percent coverage amongst stages to see
how the species are influenced by their environment. A fourth to examine the proportions of grasses
and forbs to understand the properties of grasses on late succession. Last, we examined how counts
of focal species change with duneage among herbaceous species and woody species.
Results show that organic material increased among different stages of succession. When
measuring diversity, by the Simpson diversity index, D value in which it accounted for individual
s richness and abundance (evenness). With this, the results have shown an increase in diversity as
each dune goes further back in age. With percent coverage, results conclude and show that there is
an irregular percent coverage when we have moved along the dunes. Outcomes for the fourth test
have indicated a decrease in grasses to forbs as the dunes

Compare And Contrast Rome And The United States
Colby Wall
Hour 2
Rome vs United States
Rome vs the United States had some major differences and some similarities. Their government
has some differences and similarities including: The Roman government was a strange mix of
republic and democracy and another interesting fact was that they got most of their ideas from the
Ancient Greeks. Julius Caesar was elected to be the ruler of the Roman government in 60 B.C.
with the help of Crassus, and then later around 44 B.C. Julius Caesar changed to Rome republic to
an empire. The United States government is often reviewed as a democracy and republic . And even
though it is viewed as a democracy or a republic , the American form of government is called a
democracy by leading the American statesman and legal commentators. George Washington was

Slavery in the Ancient Rome played a major role in the society and in the economy. Besides
manual labor, slaves performed many domestic services, and might be employed at highly
skilled jobs and professions. Slavery in the United States was a legal institution in the United
States in the 18th and the 19th centuries and it was still legal until the Civil War which began in
April 12, 1861 and it ended May 9, 1865. The Slavery in the ancient Rome was way different
than the United States because in the ancient Rome let some slaves own some land if it was
alright with their masters. Skilled or educated slaves were able to earn their own money and
hope that they can save up enough that they could buy their freedom. And such slaves were set
free by their masters. A male slave who had belonged to a Roman citizen was allowed to vote.
The United States slavery was mostly African Americans or just Africans. In all if I was a slave I
would want to be a slave in the ancient Rome basically because the United States didn t have as
much freedom as ancient Rome

Gifted Program Research Paper
Debriefing the interview responses from our county AIG coordinators proved to be enlightening.
There were many points of commonality between their evaluation of our gifted program, and my
own personal evaluation, but there are also points of contradiction. One particular point I agree
with is that a major strength of our gifted program is that our district is diligently working to
improve the program, within our capabilities. We are of course, limited by financial resources and
time, of which our coordinators have little control. In an attempt to be more responsive to the needs
of our district, and more inclusive, in 2016, our district adopted a new identification process for the
gifted program that included three different pathways to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only way to have an alternate aptitude test administered in DCS is to seek private testing
with an educational psychologist, to the tune of approximately $1,000. This puts a large
majority of the underrepresented at a distinct disadvantage as well. Not to mention, the irony!
We are testing so we know how best to differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs of
our students, yet we don t differentiate the testing? Another weakness stated by our coordinators
is lack of teacher training, and it is also mentioned that we are focusing our professional
development as a district, on differentiation. Yet here we are, giving everyone the same test, even
if we know it s not in their best interest. All students who qualify and are identified are provided
services on an Individual Differentiated Education Plan (DEP). These DEPs are also intended
to provide social and emotional support goals for gifted students, but I don t believe I ve ever
seen a single DEP with one of these goals. Overall, our district continues to make great strides,
and genuinely needs to make many more to address the weaknesses of our AIG program. We
have a good amount of resources at our disposal in the county for our gifted population. The most
important resource for any gifted program is personnel, and it is our biggest resource weakness.
Our AIG Specialists are split between schools and pulled in so many different directions. I feel they

Cornelius Vanderbilt Symbolism
Cornelius Vanderbilt is a name that people in American society associate with success, wealth,
and prestige. Although the name may not be easily recognized by the average American citizen,
Cornelius Vanderbilt is a name that symbolizes greatness to the American elite, members of
academia, and aspiring businessmen who wish to someday build an business empire. The fact
that he is still well esteemed amongst a smaller group of elite members in society allows him to be
considered iconic. Cornelius Vanderbilt became the face of the American Dream through his
aggressive business efforts, became a symbol of American values by having a lasting economic
and historical impact, and defined what American royalty is. Cornelius Vanderbilt and the empire
that he built has had an influential impact on how many Americans see their country and the
opportunities within their reach. When people think of the American dream, what comes to mind
is the ability to become successful and prosperous despite one s social status. Vanderbilt followed
this ideal perfectly and became an example of what one can achieve when they have the American
Dream. Cornelius Vanderbilt was born into a humble beginning on May 27th in 1794. He was not
raised in a wealthy household rather he was born into a blue collar family in Staten Island, New
York. He attended school briefly and worked with his father ferrying produce and transporting cargo
throughout the harbor. Despite his circumstances, Vanderbilt

Characteristics Of Tun Johahohn
As we know, Tun Abdullah had a different style of leadership during his premiership compared
to those previous Prime Ministers. Tun was known as one who practiced open leadership, soft
and accommodating style but some citizen look at it as in a quiet way. He was looked up as one
who possessed a very soft personality.
There are three main components of Tun s style of leadership which are, participation,
accommodation and consensus. To define participation, it is said to take place when it involves the
citizen and the leadership process. This was apparent when Tun Abdullah held his first ever meeting

They said that Tun Abdullah should be given an opportunity to rule the country and to lead the
citizens according to his ways. Even our current Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib bin Abdul Razak
once said that each Prime Minister has his own style but what is important is that the head of the
Government has strong support and can make decisions that benefit the people and country . Apart
from what has been told by the rest politicians, what matters the most is what Tun Abdullah said
about himself. Tun Abdullah himself has stated that I have my own personal methods and also has
admitted that my style is most certainly to turn a deaf ear upon those who speak uncertainly. I
prefer to focus my attention on work rather than to put up with unconstructive talk (Mingguan
Malaysia, 4 November 2007a). Despite the problems that arise, his style in ruling which leans on

Picket Fence Federalism
Federalism is a form of government in which the power to make laws and other specific
responsibilities are divided across the national, state, and local governments. How that power is
divided has been a constant source of conflict as each level has some degree of autonomy. That is,
each level has the capacity to carry out some policies without interference from the others. The
national government is responsible for things of national common interest such as, national defense
and foreign policy, as well as, responsibilities through implied powers that are inferred in the
Constitution. The national government also has the power to declare war, coin money, control
interstate commerce, borrow money, manage the postal service, and anything else... Show more

The United States certainly has the picket fence structure of all three levels of government working
together in all areas of political policy, probably more now than ever before in the history of
Cooperative Federalism. Our Federal government funds many state programs as in Fiscal
Federalism and uses those much needed funds to coerce state governments into complying with
federal policy as in Coercive Federalism. In 2009, the United States, under President Obama, began
participating in what his administration calls Progressive Federalism. Although this is not
mentioned in our text, it has become the policy of the current administration and allows the states
to have a greater control over issues normally reserved for the national government. In various
instances, states have been able to enforce more regulations on government decrees than necessary.
This type of federalism is used in different situations, such as California imposing stricter
regulations on the emissions of greenhouse gases in vehicles. This allows the states to still comply
with government orders, but add their own additions as well. Allowing states to experiment with
different variations on the same government mandate can inform the national government on which
type of changes are most effective, and can allow the national government to tailor their

On several levels, the Internet and related advances in technology have significantly affected
financial services broadly, and insurance markets more specifically. When combined with
globalization and regulatory reform, these advances have forced the insurance industry to become
more competitive. We will discuss here specifically the split or disruption in the insurance business
with a focus on the auto insurance product and less complex personal insurance products. These ...

Agents can be captive, meaning they write only for one company, or independent, meaning that
they can issue policies from several companies. The existence and success of companies using
insurance agents is likely due to improved and personalized service and relationships.
With regard to the traditional Automobile insurance, the product itself has become standardized
primarily due to government regulations and lender requirements. There really isn t any further
product innovation that takes place. This has led to extreme process innovation and, combined with
the velocity of technological change, has allowed the non specific auto insurance product to split
from the traditional insurer.
Transaction Cost Advantages for Internet based Insurance
Insurance companies selling and servicing over the Internet will have a cost advantage over
traditional insurers in the range of 58% to 71% over the lifetime of a customer. Savings are driven
by reduced sales costs, cheaper and better information capture. (Booz Allen amp; Hamilton, 1997)
Personal Auto insurance has become nonspecific or generic, where computers and software can
handle the entire transaction, from start to finish. Increasingly predictive modeling technology is

Examples Of Isolation In To Kill A Mockingbird
According to dictionary.com, the definition of the word isolate is to set or place apart; detach or
separate so as to be alone. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, there is a dilemma on if it is better
to be isolated or a part of the larger society. In many situations, it is better to be a part of the
larger society, like in the modern world, but in some situations it is better to be isolated, like in To
Kill a Mockingbird. In the novel, Boo Radley and the blacks are isolated, but almost everyone
else is a part of a larger society. Although the people in a larger society did not have many rumors

China’s Education System
Education is the process of learning and acquiring knowledge at school from a teacher, receiving

allows people to move up in the world, seek better jobs, and succeed in life. Education is one
factor that affects job positions people hold, advance in their further career, the income they make,

The similarities include administering a nationwide exam given to all the students. All students are
equally evaluated based on these scores. The test is used to determine which university students are
able to attend. There are also significant differences between these exams. In America the exams are
called the SAT or the ACT. In Chinait is named Gaokao. The Gaokao test is taken very seriously.
This test is taken for multiple days. Parents rent hotel rooms nearby so their student can have a
quiet lunch and take a nap. Some Chinese students go insane for this exam. They study for the
Gaokao while hooked up to IV drips. The IV drips contain amino acids which would provide the
students with extra energy (Kristof). This would definitely never be allowed in U.S. And lastly,
merit pay is different in China than U.S. The Chinese believe in merit pay and in using student test
scores for teacher evaluation. For example, when the 9th graders leave middle school they are
tested to see which high school they are qualified to attend. Since the same teachers have had those
students for three years, they compare their entry score to their exit score. The classes that showed
the most academic gain resulted in that banzhuren receiving a bonus that might range from 3000

Coalitions In American Politics
Coalitions play a major role in American politics because of how greatly they shape the US
political arena. Whether between parties, officials or organizations, these allied relationships are
one of the significant factors that result in the major decision made in the U.S.. After differing
parties team up and become allies, over time, the group will have a tendency towards change. This
election year of 2016 has been a noticeable period where new coalitions have been formed and
others have broken down. For their own sake, parties must strive to take lengths necessary to
maintain or attain power in the government and therefore tip the scales in their favor and achieve

  • 2. Analysis Of The Book Chapter Eighty Chapter Sixty Closure Kramer sat there like he was sitting on a hard seat at Nuremburg. Not having enough courage to look his captors in the eyes. He felt their a furtive glare that penetrated the inner core of a two bit coward that hated himself as much as he hated existing with what he deemed lowlifes. Lujack put a call through to Argyle s home. The Texan s heart skipped a beat when Hanna answered the phone. With Kramer in earshot range, he gave her the newsflash that they had their Nazi. Putting a little sarcastic humor to good use, he announced the former commandant s name as Herr Josef Kramer. By the yelp he heard on the other end, meant the celebration on the Isle... • 3. Short Essay On Steve Jobs Steve Jobs The Man Who Made Apple Inventor, Genius, and Hot Tempered are words I would use to describe Steve Jobs. Many people know that Jobs was the man who made Apple, but he was so much more. As a well known entrepreneur, Steve Jobs showed the world that electronics could be so much more. He left a lasting legacy as the man who made our iPhones, iPads, iPods, and Macs. The early life of Steve Jobs was quite elaborate. The creator was not raised by his biological parents. Jobs was born on February 24, 1955 in San Francisco to two unwed graduate school students. His maternal grandfather did not approve of his daughter keeping the baby because she was unwed, and the father of the baby was not a Catholic like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. A Comparison Of Beyond The Love Story And West Side Story Beyond the love story People are always rewriting other people s stories consciously or unconsciously cutting and trimming, pasting, rearranging, and adjusting to new times and circumstances, sometimes adding truly creative elements and occasionally actually improving on the original. The Tragicall Historye of Romeus and Juliet which was a narrative poem by Arthur Brooke is considered to be William Shakespeares base source for his famous play Romeo and Juliet (Mabillard). West Side Story (1961) is a widely acclaimed, melodramatic musical a modern day, loose re telling of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet tragedy of feuding families. • 5. Attention Deficit Hyper Activity Disorder I chose to complete the Psychology 1000 Mental Disorder Project on Attention Deficit/ Hyper Activity Disorder because I was diagnosed with Predominately Inattentive Attention Deficit Disorder at age 5 which caused me to struggle academically all through grade school and into high school. I was given an Individual Education Plan for mathematics in grade school that was supposed to help me succeed but hardly did that because to this day I still cannot do math at a college level. Around age 5, I was put on the methylphenidateRitalin to help me concentrate in school but it caused stomach ulcers and I lost a lot of weight due to me getting a stomach ache after taking the pill. Even though according to Timely Data Resources Inc. they say children are at increased risk of being overweight and the extent to which treatment with stimulant medications alters this association. But with my personal side effects to the treatment I became extremely underweight, which lead to my doctor prescribing me the methylphenidate Concerta that is similar to Ritalin but is a time release tablet that helped me do better in school. I only had to take one pill a day unlike Ritalin where I had to take a pill with breakfast and then another one with lunch. I also gained all my weight back while taking Concerta because the ulcers and the upset stomach went away. Because I was originally prescribed Ritalin my doctor wanted to keep me on the same type of drug and according to WebMD.com ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Kansas State University Orchestra Conducted I recently attended the Kansas State University Orchestra conducted by Dr. David Littrell and graduate student Travis Hale. The orchestra featured four pieces, Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Minor composed by Johann Sebastian Bach, Petite Suite composed by Claude Debussy arranged by Henri Busser, Overture to La Gazza Ladra(The Thieving Magpie) composed by Gioachino Rossini, and Overture to Le roi d Ys composed by Edouard Lalo. The first piece of music performed was the Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Minor. The melody of this piece was very conjunct and smooth. The pitches fit together well and were played staccato, but in the Air, portion the melody became more legato. Since a suite is a collection of dances this is very metric. It is very easy to find a beat and tap your toe to the beat. Every movement of this suite was very easy to find the beat. I believe the piece was in a quadruple meter because the continuo, played by the double bass, could be counted into four. The dynamics were very moderate staying within the range of forte and piano, which is typical of the baroque period when this piece was written. The piece was polyphonic and each section had their own parts that worked together to make the piece. The piece could also be considered a call and response in the Bouree and Gigue movements. The violins and woodwinds would play a part of the melody and then the brass and bass would come in with a short response to their melody. The next piece performed was Petite Suite ... • 9. The Generation Of The Boomer Generation Today, three generations work side by side in American businesses, each with their own differing values. Managers need to recognize their unique characteristics and plan accordingly. The term Generation Gap entered our daily lexicon in the 1960s when members of the Boomer generation were teenagers. It recognized the chasm that existed between the Boomers and their parents in regard to their divergent political views, taste in music, the clothes they wore, and professional goals: Baby Boomers hoping for early retirement received a loud wake up call when the economy receded around them. It looks like many will be on the job for years to come in order to pay off their mortgaged lifestyles. That doesn t bode well for Generation Xers, who have been positioning themselves for further advancement in hopes of an exodus by those Boomers, who might seem old and in the way rather than mentors of knowledge. And young Generation Yers are left scrambling for whatever entry level jobs remain in an ever shrinking and increasingly competitive American workplace. The entire work environment has been sent spinning as three generations of workers compete for fewer positions, all complicated by rapid advances in office and communications technologies that are eagerly embraced by younger workers while seemingly threatening to older ones. In 1988 a sub genre of music dubbed gangster rap come from the underground into American mainstream, this type of music became quite popular among young African Americans in the inner city of America. It wasn t until the music became popular with white suburban teenagers that the public in general stood up and took notice to try and censor this particular genre of music. • 11. Greenbush Vs. Burke Heights Greenbush vs. Burke Heights This report will be on the research I have discovered first hand as well as through statistical data that compares and contrasts the neighborhoods of Greenbush and Burke Heights, both located in Madison, Wisconsin. When researching these two neighborhoods, I focused on the neighborhoods housing statistics, demographics of their residents, and the money circulating within the neighborhoods. Another aspect I paid attention to while comparing the neighborhoods was the economic and employment opportunities available within the communities. These benefits directly correlate to the amount of capital that is available for residents. Lastly, I took note of the entertainment, retail, and physical possibilities that prevailed in these neighborhoods. The first subject I will compare is the housing within each neighborhood. First, in the Greenbush neighborhood, the majority of people are either college students or young adults between the ages of twenty and thirty two. It was obvious this age group lived in these homes seeing the dГ©cor on the front porches and the cars in the driveways. The average household income ranges between seventy and eighty five thousand dollars per year (StatisticalAtlas). Just walking down the street I noticed most of the lots are designated for either college students, expensive residential homes, or parks with green spaces. The neighborhoods average price for a normal sized home would range between three hundred and three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Comparing Women Of Athens And Sparta The position and roles of women in society have generally improved over time. These factors, however, differ from region to region because different properties determine them. They include laws, cultures, and community set up. The same elements described the position and roles of women in ancient Greece. The two major cities with contrasting perceptions of women were Athens and Spartan. These areas had different cultures and set ups. Athens was a developed city at the time and consisted of a number of scholars ranging from philosophers to artists. Spartan, on the other hand, had a military like lifestyle and not so many scholars. These differences shaped the roles of women in different aspects of the two communities. The difference in positions led several philosophers and writers to put down texts on this subject. This essay refers to these texts to compare the women of Athens and Spartaand show the general inequality they experienced. Women in Athens had close to zero rights. They lived in a society that was dominated by men who preferred to isolate them. Women could not participate in public and civic matters especially politics. Citizens were the only ones that could get involved in civic issues. At the time, only men could be citizens (O Pry 8). However, the Royal and a few freeborn women could make a contribution to political issues, a fact that displeased most men. Aristotle writes in On a Good Wife that a woman should not bother with public issues. He goes on to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the daughter of Merella, the queen of the sea, Hydor never thought that she would be anything more than just a princess. It was a heart shaped locket that belonged to her grandmother. She hurried back to the lavish palace where her family resides. • 15. Rosecrans s Battle At Chickamauga In September of 1863 Major General William S. Rosecrans was on a roll. He and his Union Army of the Cumberland had initiated their campaign in Tennessee against Confederate General Braxton Bragg in December of the previous year. After fighting a major battle at Murfreesboro (Stones River) and maneuvering adroitly to force the Confederates out of Tullahoma and then Chattanooga, Rosecrans had driven Bragg s army completely out of Tennessee and into northern Georgia. But now Bragg was through retreating. He had received enough reinforcements, including troops from Robert E. Lee s Army of Northern Virginia under James Longstreet, to have numerical superiority over Rosecrans, and he meant to make aggressive use of that advantage. Bragg attacks Rosecrans at ... Wood (Wikimedia) Having been erroneously informed by staff officers that a gap had formed in the Union line facing the Confederates, Rosecrans quickly ordered Brigadier General Thomas J. Wood to take his division and close the gap. But in pulling his force out of its position and moving it to close a gap that didn t exist, Wood opened up a real one. It so happened that General Longstreet was already preparing an attack on just the position Wood was moving away from. Longstreet s troops quickly poured through the now all too real gap in the Union line, cutting the Northern force in two. The result was little short of an absolute rout of the Federal army, with most of the troops, including Rosecrans himself, along with most of his generals, running as fast as they could in disorganized retreat back to the hoped for safety of Chattanooga. Currently, MFCs (Microbial Fuel Cells) have generated electricity from biomass using bacteria. These microbes cause an electric current where electrons flow from the anode to the cathode where the reduction of oxygen occurs. A revolutionary new method called MDCs (Microbial Desalination Cells) could potentially desalinate water and produce energy depending on the design or set up of the cell. The Politics And Last National Security Essay Arms Trade, Weapons Sales, Armament Sales are just few terms used for the manufacture and sale or trade of devices to protect a country, attack another and quite possibly benefit economically, or politically on a global scale. Countries, entities, factions, make, sell, and give things of destruction to others. This is a reality. The intent of this paper is to provide information that individuals can use to determine the necessity. The economics, the politics and last the National Securityare the three main discussion points. History History of Arms Trade, Weapons Trade or the trade any of items necessary to protect, feed or conquer dates back to the dawn of time. Scholars note that arms trade or weapons trade could be traced back 300,000 years (Thieme). As humans evolved and interacted with each other, scholars speculate that the trade of many things occurred. The trade would include stories, knowledge, which can be considered intangibles, then the tangibles, seeds for food, things to make tools, how to make a shelter, weapons for protection and survival. Basically trade included instruction and things needed for every aspect of life; to survive. Agers 2 Elements of Thought Think about it this way. You have a clan or tribe with really good sharp rocks and a clan or tribe with really good wood staffs. You put both together you have a more lethal device, for protection and providing food. • 19. Photosynthesis and Respiration All organisms on earth depend on photosynthesis, in which light energy is used to make sugar and other food molecules from carbon dioxide and water. For example, plants and other photo synthesizers need only energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide from air, and water from the soil to make the sugar glucose. Photosynthesisis the most important chemical process on earth because it provides food for virtually all organisms, not only for photo synthesizers but for the organisms that eat them. Plants can capture the energy of the sun by a chemical process called photosynthesis. This chemical reaction can be described by the following simple equation: 6CO2 + 6H2O + light energy = C6H12O6 + 6O2 The product of photosynthesis is a carbohydrate, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The CO2 is converted into malic acid and then converted back to CO2 during the day when light is present, thus producing sugars, while the stomata are closed and greatly reducing water loss. Plants convert the energy from light into simple sugars, such as glucose. This food may be converted back to water and carbon dioxide, releasing the stored energy through a process called respiration. This energy is required for growth in nearly all organisms. Simple sugars are also converted to other sugars and starches (carbohydrates) which may be transported to the stems and roots for use or storage, or they may be used as building blocks for more complex structures, e.g. oils, pigments, proteins, cell walls, etc. Photosynthesis is dependent on the availability of light. In other words, as sunlight increases in intensity photosynthesis increases. This results in greater food production. Many garden crops, such as tomatoes, respond best to maximum sunlight. Tomato production is cut drastically as light intensities drop. Only two or three varieties of greenhouse tomatoes will produce any fruit when sunlight is minimal in fall and spring. Water plays an important role in photosynthesis in several ways. First, it maintains a plant s turgor or the firmness or fullness of plant tissue. Turgor pressure in a cell can be compared to air in an inflated balloon. Water pressure or turgor is needed in plant cells to maintain shape and ensure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is these agreements that give legitimacy to government; people are ruled by consent (PPI, 2012). The form described by contractarianism; the contract is hypothetical, as is the consent. Structured Political Systems Lastly, in order that goods might increasingly be secured. The goals of society must be defined; before choosing a route one must choose a destination. The political system best achieves the aims of politics, is most affective in securing it (PPI, 2012). Conclusion Philosophy engages us to ask a multitude of questions about our place in the world. • 35. Aristophanes Speech On Love And Happiness The philosopher I have chosen for this assignment is Plato, in Symposium. Based on the readings of The Speech of Aristophanes, the theorist Aristophanes states that the key to love and happiness is the search to finding ones other half , in which the couple becomes together or whole . In the quest to becoming one , the individuals find themselves in a lifelong togetherness, what some claim to be considered finding your soul mate When becoming whole the newly formed partnership embrace in sexual relations and share experiences with one another. In order to fully understand Aristophanes concept of erotic love, it is imperative to summarize and highlight details of the story in The Speech of Aristophanes. The form of Aristophanes speech, comes in as a myth of a story long ago where there were three genders: male, female and androgynous, all of which were twice what they humans are now. For example, two sets of hands and two sets of legs. Though the gods hated these beings, they knew they could not kill them, as forfeiting humans as sacrifices. So, in replace Zeus decided to cut the humans into two, but keeping them whole on either side, including their genitals. Because the humans, now half, had been whole for so long, they constantly had urges to find their other half to make them whole again, which begins Aristophanes theory of longing for one another. As Martha Ballard writes in her diary, A womans work is never Done as the Song says and Happy is shee [sp] whose strength holds out to the end of the rais [race]. Women, like Ballard, contributed useful and skilled labor, though it was often derided, mocked, or overlooked. However, the work of women varied greatly, due to location, social class, race, time period, and more. This essay will focus on two very different groups of women, early female settlers of the Chesapeake area during the seventeenth century and the Native American women of the Iroquois Confederacy, spread across northeastern New York and Ontario during the same time period. Through the analysis, the necessity of the study of women s work will become evident; it aids historians in understanding women s past: including genderperceptions, the myriad of experiences faced by different women, and the changes over that occurred over time. Though traditional history books paint the workers in the United States as all male, the women were very much a part of the labor force. However, the way in which labor affected gender roles very much differed. In some examples, work broke down gender roles. In the rice fields, both male and female African slaves were forced to work side by side. This is interesting because in rice producing countries of Africa, women were the sole producers of rice. On the other hand, the British had seen agriculture as a man s work, and women typically only worked in the fields during ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Physics in Cameras Cameras have been a popular device ever since they were invented during the late 1800 s. Cameras are electronics that give us the ability to capture a moment with the push of a button. These little machines allow a real life image to be seen on paper and to be kept as a memento. The way that cameras are able to do this is through physics. Cameras are relatable to physics because they involve visible light, light refraction, light reflections, and electromagnetic fields in the motor. Cameras are involved with physics because they use visible light to capture a picture. Visible light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum. The electromagnetic spectrum contains different wavelengths and frequencies. The visible light spectrum is the part of the electromagnetic spectrum that humans can see. Specific wavelengths in the spectrum are represented by specific colors. This is how humans are able to perceive colors, through visible light. When a camera captures an image, it uses visible light to capture the different wavelengths. These wavelengths are seen as different colors which come together to create the image. Visible light is what allows the colors that create the image to be seen when the picture is captured. Cameras are also involved with physics because they use light refraction to focus the image. Light refraction is the change in the speed of light when it enters a medium of a different speed. For example, lenses on a camera are mediums that refract light. The light wave ... The history of female convicts has traditionally been incorporated into the framework of male convicts with grave reference to the male convict experience. The convict women who were transported to Australia on ships Elizabeth 5th and Henry Wellesley in 1836 faced extreme difficulty in achieving freedom and reputability. It is the view of many historians that women were incorporated into a pattern initially designed to accommodate men . This essay will investigate the origins and characteristics of a sample of 10 female convicts arriving to Sydney in1836. The essay aims to establish an alternative impression of the female convicts that were deemed damned whores, skill less and prostitutes. In agreement with the 4 of the 5 studied historians, I hold the view that the women were the victims of a repressive patriarchal society and the appellation of female convicts as damned whores is totally inadequate. I believe they were not members of a professional criminal class; they were humans with basic human needs, doing anything they could to survive. The female convicts exported to Australia have been the subjects of investigation since transportation commenced. To examine hypotheses relating to the progression of succession through facilitation and other species interactions and to examine how biotic and abiotic rigor change through time as succession proceeds. To further examine these concepts, we have gathered and conducted five tests. Our first experiment dealt with soildevelopment, to show how soil changes and developments have advanced throughout the dunes. A second experiment has been taken to show the variations in diversity among the five dunes. The third was to examine percent coverage amongst stages to see how the species are influenced by their environment. A fourth to examine the proportions of grasses and forbs to understand the properties of grasses on late succession. Last, we examined how counts of focal species change with duneage among herbaceous species and woody species. Results show that organic material increased among different stages of succession. When measuring diversity, by the Simpson diversity index, D value in which it accounted for individual s richness and abundance (evenness). With this, the results have shown an increase in diversity as each dune goes further back in age. With percent coverage, results conclude and show that there is an irregular percent coverage when we have moved along the dunes.
