Film and Novel Comarison of Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck...
Film and Novel Comarison of Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck
For my assignment I am going to compare both directors of the book and the film, and also their
writing techniques.
The director of the film has many different techniques to utilize; actors, camera shots, location,
properties, sound, music, light. Compared to the way John Steinbeck wrote the book, Gary Sinise
interpreted the novel very differently. John Steinbeck s novel is sequential, but Sinise chose to
ignore this.
The writer in contrast, has only words to make their special effects. John Steinbeck uses a
Panorama to open his novel. A panorama opening to the novel: California, Gabilan Mountains,
Salinas River, Soledad Town, Pool... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next screen shot is of the two men, George and Lennie splashing through the water. There is
a medium camera shot. There are sounds of panting, and instinct words. There is tension
building here as the music swells. The next shot is of George and Lennie hiding in the reeds,
medium cuts to close up, we can see the big man, George, is keeping his head down in disguise
so no one can see him. At this point there are constant inter cuts, it looks like the two men are
hoping for an escape, the music recedes temporarily. The next shot is the men and their horses
and dogs again, looking for something they can t find, perhaps something like George and
Lennie. George and Lennie are still hidden in the water, there is a low angle shot used here, and
a close up of them two. The figures start to become very tiny, and all the voices start to fade
away. There is a long shot of camera use here. There is a different type of music played here; the
music is also starting to fade away now, into the background and then gradually the light starts to
fade away and the atmosphere becomes pitch black. All you can hear is the sounds of trains passing
over the railway tracks, dramatic music playing increases sense of tension, piano, violins, strings,
and this slowly introduces the theme.
A few miles of Soledad, the Salinas River drop in close to the hillside bands and runs deep and
green.

What Is Poe s Name Of The Animals In The Black Cat
In the literature The Black Cat by Edgar Allan Poe. The narrator, mentions that in the next few
days he would die. He describes himself as a caring and loving man, who when was young was
despised by others for his fear of animals. He married a woman who had the same fear of animals,
though she invited many animals to live their home. There were birds, gold fish, a very well dog,
rabbits, a tiny monkey and a cat. The name of the cat is Pluto this was the cat s name was my
favorite pet and playmate. I alone fed him, and he attended me wherever I went to the house. It was
even with difficulty that I could prevent him from following me through the streets (Poe). The man
and his cat built a close relationship. As time went on, the man began feeling unkindness.

Pluto s collar and drops Pluto from a tree, killing Pluto.
The wife and the man walk to the cellar to complete errands. The cat followed me down the steep
stairs, and, nearly throwing me headlong, exasperated me to madness. Uplifting an ax, and
forgetting, in my wrath, the childish dread which had hitherto stayed my hand, I aimed a blow at
the animal, which, of course, would have proved instantly fatal had it descended as I wished. But
this blow was arrested by the hand

The Truth About M Ms Analysis
I almost dropped out of college in the 4th week of the semester, but my life took a swift turn
around; after I had stomped on the essay The Truth About M Ms . The Truth About M Ms was
written and published by Steve Dalager. Steve is a professor, and an English Composition instructor

How To Write A Letter From A Patriot
June 29, 1863 Dear Emily, Please forgive my messy handwriting, for all of the lights are packed
away. Tomorrow we are leaving Cashtown and marching into Gettysburg to find supplies.
Colonel Smith is still being tended to by the surgeons. I m secretly hoping for him not to get
better. I m excited, to fight for my country, for what s right, and for my people and to prove I m
an honorable leader. This could, hopefully, improve my rank in the army. I don t trust Smith, I
feel as if he may be a double agent . He used to ask me to deliver notes to strangers, or cover for
him when he had to meet someone. One time, I went into his tent and three of his slaves were
sitting in there, reading through the battle plans and eating our food. Some of the soldiers didn t
get anything to eat that night and here these disgusting blacks were eating our food! How dare
they! So I punished them like any true Confederate man would do. Then I went to talk to Smith
about this, and he kept trying to change the subject. Major Green just called. I have to speak to go

When we got to Gettysburg this morning with all the men, a few of our scouts saw a bunch of
Union cavalry, south of town, coming quickly. I bet we could have beat them right then and
there, but Smith said to not initiate battle. We went back to Cashtown to face General A.P. Hill.
Hill then sent his best men to go back and investigate. His best men included me, but none of my
superiors. How embarrassing! We came back to let everyone know that there definitely would be
a battle tomorrow. I am ecstatic that he chose me to go over my superiors. I m assuming that
there will be a battle tomorrow. More good news is that Smith is to weak to fight tomorrow! I will
have the opportunity to lead my men to a victory at the battle of Gettysburg. I have to go consult
with other generals about tomorrow s plans. I ll write you again tomorrow

Motorcycle Helmet Law Debate
The 40 Year Debate; Are Mandatory Universal Motorcycle Helmet Laws Right or Wrong? Across
the United States, every year millions of license drivers choose to ride motorcycles rather than
drive automobiles for a variety of reasons; Reasons range from individual pleasure to a much more
cost effective way to travel. The universal motorcyclehelmet law debate over the past forty years
has revolved around whether the federal government should adopt a universal helmet law that
mandates all motorcyclists to wear helmets at all times when riding to reduce societies economic
cost, or whether the individual rider should have the right to choose rather to wear or not wear a
helmet. In 1967, nearly all States implemented a mandatory... Show more content on

Then, By 1975, 47 states and the District of Columbia had adopted universal helmet laws. This
trend reversed dramatically in the latter half of 1975 when Congress acquiesced to the pressure
exerted by groups such as ABATE, and amended the Act to remove the contingency of federal
highway funds on universal helmet laws. The amendment led to the repeal of universal coverage in
27 states shortly thereafter (Derrick, Allison J., and Lee D. Faucher 229). Between 1989 and 1994,
Congress once again began to try and influence the States to mandate a universal motorcycle helmet
law by implementing the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991, also known as
ISTEA.
ISTEA provided special incentive grants to states with both universal motorcycle helmet laws
and passenger vehicle safety belt use laws. A state qualified for a first year grant by having these
two laws in effect. In subsequent years, the state also was required to exceed minimum
motorcycle helmet and safety belt use levels (helmet use of 75 percent in the second year and 85
percent in the third year). Twenty three states and the District of Columbia received grants for one
or more of the fiscal years 1992, 1993, and 1994 for which the grants were authorized (R.G. Ulmer
and D.F. Preusser 5).

The Eyes Were Watching God Character Analysis
Model Amber Valletta wrote, We are what we see. We are products of our surroundings. A major
element of someone s personality is due to their environment or past events of their lives. Janie
Crawford is certainly not an exception. This is the story of Janie s Pursuit for love where she, a
widowed woman, unfolds her story to her friend Pheoby at dinner. She talks about her childhood
with Nanny and The Washburns, her relationships with Logan Killicks and Joe Starks or Jody, her
experiences with them along with events that took place while being with them or in relation to
them, how they affected her mentality, and how she grows up and matures throughout her life to
the self reliant woman telling the story. In The Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston
,
the struggles in Janie s problematic relationships with Logan and Joe impacted her, which gave her
more and more experiences to gradually building up to the independent woman she is in the
beginning of the story.
The beginning phase of Janie s development was her marriage to Logan, where she thought that
the marriage which Nanny forced upon her might end up fulfilling her aspiration for love.
Logan was very nice to Janie at the beginning, but later, as time went by, he wasn t as nice to her
anymore. One morning Logan called for Janie for her to come out and help him with his work in
the fields. Janie! Logan called harshly. Come help me move dis manure pile befo de sun gits hot.

Efforts to Improve the Production of Insecticidal...
Although the production of insecticidal baculoviruses in insect cell cultures has been proposed as
an alternative to overcome the limitations of the in vivo processes, so far no in vitro process could
be even implemented on an industrial scale in India, and baculovirus occlusion bodies are still
produced in infected insectlarvae. Some factors that 25 years ago have hindered the development
of large scale production processes for baculoviruses in insect cell cultures, such as the sensitivity
of insect cells to the stresses linked to the mechanical agitation in stirred tank reactors and to the
bubble rupture in sparged bioreactors, have been resolved and several cell lines can be cultivated
today in industrial bioreactors of large volume to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

entrepreneurs and those issues will be addressed in the present proposal such as 1.Simplification
of the composition of the culture medium: The cost of the culture medium will be reduced by
applying the more empirical approaches like replacement of costly ingredients, such as amino
acids and lipids, by optimized mixtures of raw materials of lower cost such as protein
hydrolysates and cooking oils. 2. Possibility to obtain high volumetric yields of viral OBs: The
usual strategy to produce baculovirus occlusion bodies in insect cell cultures has been the
infection of batch cultures. Generally in batch cultures the high yields are impaired by the cell
density effect . Whenever possible, the adoption of alternative strategies of infection could be a
way to overcome the cell density effect and thus improve the viral productivity. The fed batch
culture, which has proven to be a feasible alternative to increase the yield of recombinant proteins
and BV in Sf9 cell cultures at high density, could also be an alternative strategy to increase the
yield of occlusion bodies. A deeper understanding of the causes that lead to the

Bias Based On Neurological Pathways
Bias is commonly known as being stubborn when it comes to one s views; however, bias can
announce itself in smaller, more innate ways. In this film, one s implicit bias is an important
factor in how the film and its characters will be interpreted by the viewer. Bias is based on
neurological pathways that have been formed around one s opinion. Any new information or
evidence that supports one s idea, whether it s correct or incorrect, strengthens this bond, or
pathway. The brain does everything it can to protect itself from being wrong. A brain can base a
conclusion on zero evidence, it can twist information to fit its own bias, and it can stereotype an
entire group of people off of an interaction with one person. These are pitfalls in critical thinking,
which can make it difficult to break one s bias. In order to think differently or break away from
pitfalls in critical thinking, one must literally deconstruct and reconstruct neurological pathways,
physically changing one s brain. The first pitfall I experienced while watching The Reluctant
Fundamentalist was making a hasty conclusion about a group of people based on my experience
with a few. I assumed that in the beginning of the film, when the white man and Pakistani woman
were walking together, that the white man was going to assault the woman for her background. I
had zero evidence to support that the white man would assault the Pakistani woman; however, I
wanted to believe because of my own past experiences that he

Monday Night Football Game Analysis
The first Monday Night Football show premiered on US TV sets on Sept. 21, 1970. Ever since
that fateful day, Monday Night Football being shown on US TV has been a mainstay of the NFL.
In terms of sports betting, Monday Night Football is probably one of the most widely viewed
times when football is shown and therefore provides the smart gambler with a way to tap into that.
In fact one of the earliest betting strategies which was created to help gamblers profit off of the
NFL was the idea of betting on the home underdog for the Monday Night Football game. During the
time period that encompasses the 1970s and the 1980s, the strategy of betting on the home
underdog for the Monday Night Football game was extremely profitable and helped many gamblers
to take home large winnings from this simple strategy alone. ... Show more content on

Football games you may see that since 1985 the number of home underdogs who have their

strategy to follow with regards to maintaining a profitable gambling strategy.
A better strategy is to follow the handicapping and ignore whether or not the home underdog is
the one you are betting on for the Monday Night Football game. It may be difficult for older
gamblers who have been using this strategy for a long time to change gears and begin using a
different strategy. However, the strategy of betting on the home underdog for the Monday Night

values. In the light of your own experience examine the extent to which personal values support or

In this paper it will be necessary to look at what professionalisation and values are, what they mean,
and if they have any relevance within teaching in todays Further Education system. To fully
understand the above statement and explore it further, it is necessary to dissect the title and

In this respect the qualification is set out to verify the contents and matching objectives for external
verification, as it is to develop a coherent, logical and imaginative delivery of the subject matter. It
fits into the ideology of instrumentalism, where, Armitage, Bryant, Dunhill, al, (2003) tells us a
highly educated workforce with high levels of numeracy and literacy are essential to compete with
aspirational, developing countries in the fields of science and technology.
Whilst striving to incorporate new technologies into Further Education is this ideology as effective
in preparing students for their work role as it is in meeting socio political aims of our society? To
try and answer these questions it will be necessary to look at ethics, morals and values imparted
whilst teaching the curriculum in this area of Further of Education.
Philosophy is a method of reflective thinking regarding values and ideas, why and what is realistic
to believe about them. It can also be defined as a study of the meaning of life, knowledge and
thought (Collins pocket dictionary, 2008).
People have their own philosophies so we cannot say that everyone has the same ideas, especially
when it comes to educational philosophies. All Philosophies are not the same but have some
comparabilities. Educational philosophers merely are stating their own thoughts on education, and
what they think is best for the individual. It

Obesity During The Us Military
OBESITY IN THE US MILITARY The Department of Defense (DoD) is the largest employer in
the United States; there are over 1.3 million men and women on active duty and 826 thousand
serving in the National Guard and Reserve forces. Each year roughly 184,000 new military
personnel must be recruited to replace those who leave (nber.org, 2010). Recruitment has
become more demanding for the U.S. military in the past years. Most of the new recruits
entering the ranks are young men and women between the ages of 17 and 20 years old; they are
America s sons and daughters. Over the past decades, the continued increase of obesity cases in
America has severely affected the supply of prospective military recruits (Gagnon Stephens,
2015). The US military is not immune to this obesity epidemic the rate of service members
kicked out for weight issues continues to rise. Obesity has also become the leading cause of
new recruits being denied entry into military service. Is it possible that the US will reach a point
where it will be unable to sustain a proper fighting force in the future? Since the US armed forces
recruit from the general population, the increase in overweight/obesity in children and adults has
become a concern and a threat to national defense (Hruby et al,. 2015). This apparent issue first
came to public attention in 2002, in a report entitled Are U.S. Troops Too Fat to Fight? The report

Development As Freedom Summary
Sen outlines two different approaches to development policies: the GNP/capital approach, which
measures development through GNP and income levels, and the capability approach, which focuses
on development through the expansion of freedoms. Given that his book is titled Development as
Freedom , he is clear proponent of the latter approach. He offers a critique of the former, both
factually and normatively.
In his factual critique of policies that focus purely on GNP/human capital, he argues that capital is
not an all encompassing yardstick with which to measure development. While capital and
capabilities are closely linked, Sen believes that the capital approach focuses predominantly on
human beings and their ability to increase production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He paraphrases Adam Smith in saying that to see humans only in terms of their productive use is
to slight the nature of humanity , a bold declaration that humans are not just means of production
but ends in themselves (296). Early in chapter twelve, he makes the argument that the basic
concern in assessing growth and development should be with the expansion of our capability to
lead the kind of lives we have reason to value (285). This means we ought to value to everything
from the opportunity to find meaningful employment, to the opportunity to live in a safe, peaceful
area. These are clearly non capital variables; while income is good measure of someone s
capability to buy goods/services, it doesn t indicate their opportunity to live a long, worthwhile life,
which Sen proposes we should care about as much as, if not more than just economic growth.
Finally, in what is his strongest argument for focusing on freedoms instead of capital, Sen argues
that capabilities have an intrinsic value, rather than just an instrumental value (292). Where income
and capital are resources that improve people s choices, they are a means to development, not an
end; therefore, we ought to value capabilities instrumentally and intrinsically, and use them as our
yardstick for measuring

Essay On Machine Scheduling
Description Of Machine Scheduling
1 1 Definition Of The Scheduling Problem Scheduling is the process of assigning limited
resources to a set of jobs over a period of time. The resources may be machine in a workshop,
runways at an airport and crews at a construction site, as well as processing units in a computing
environment. The jobs may be operation in the production process, take offs and landing at an
airport, stages in a construction project, executions of computer programs[30]. The goal of
scheduling is to assign resources to the jobs such that one or more objective are optimized.
Scheduling becomes an important concern when resources are limited and need to be utilized to
complete many competing jobs efficiently. Many real world scheduling problem are multi objective
by nature. Traditionally, the most common approach has been to combine the multiple objective
into a single scalar value by using weighted aggregating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of such a dimension is the number of the available machine and the way how these
machines are organized. Then one machine sequencing problem is the simplest one: all jobs have
to be processed on single machine and no two jobs can be processed simultaneously. There are
four classes of job shop scheduling problems [30]
1.2.1 Single Machine Scheduling
The single machine scheduling problem involves scheduling a set of jobs to a single resource.
This is accomplished by determining a sequence that includes each job, and it assigns the jobs to
its source. Each job can give a priority, ready time, processing time, and due date. The value of the
performance measure can be computed on the base of this information and the sequence of jobs.
This problem grows in complicity at an exponential rate as the number of jobs to be scheduling

White Males And The American Writers
In this nature writing course and in all my literature courses there haven t been many African
American writers represented. This isn t because they don t exist, but because the more commonly
known writers have the attributes of being more respected, and are widely accepted writers in
American literature, who majority of the time are white males like Thoreau and Leopold. These
are just examples, and they are good writers but there are also good African Americanwriters that
deserve just as much representation when teaching college courses. There s a greater choice of
writers besides having the same works of authors we ve already read throughout our experience in
studying literature. There needs to be a better variety of cultures represented in literature, white
males shouldn t always be the most read and studied authors in public institutions. Minorities
should be represented too, especially African American writers since they played such a great role
in the American history, and endured so much oppression from the society they ve lived in. In this
course, Nature Writing at metropolitan University, we had a variety of different races, but the
Black racedidn t get the representation they deserved. There was a writing titled, from a black
boy by Wright, and it wasn t a good representation of Black writers in America. I remember
reading it and questioning what I just read; because it didn t have any emotion or deeper meaning

Abstract
Transparent conductive films of fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) electrospun on glass substrate
were prepared. These transparent conductive films were prepared at a substrate temperature in the
range 350 550 ОїC. A solution of SnCl2.2H2O in methanol and glacial acetic acidwas used as a
precursor. Hydrofluoric acid was added to the precursor solution as a dopant. The films were
prepared in one single step and no further treatment is required. The distance between the spray
nozzle and the substrate was in the range 2 10 cm, the liquid flow rate was in the range 10 50 ml
/h, the duration of electrospinning was in the range 5 50 min and 15 20 kV electrical potential
was applied. The prepared films were characterized by means of XRD, SEM, FTIR and UV VIS
spectroscopy. The resistivity measurements were measured by the four point probe technique. It
was found that the films are transparent in the UV Visible region and was about 70% and high
reflective in the infra red region (99%). XRD pattern indicates that the films exhibit a preferred
orientation (110) with grain size about 16 nm. By comparing these results with that obtained by

Through his political activism and his artwork, Douglas dramatically changed the way other artists
viewed African Americans. Politically, he helped found and served as president for the activist
organization that drastically assisted with employing thousands of artists.
he 1920s and 1930s brought drastic changes to the lives of many African Americans.
Geographically, they migrated toward the urban, industrialized North, not only to escape racial
prejudices and economic hardships, but also to attain higher social and economic status. This Great

Through his political activism and artwork, Douglas was able to reveal the ideas and values
exemplified during the Harlem Renaissance, despite significant criticism of his style.
With this rebirth of traditional African culture, the number of African American artists rapidly
increased. It became difficult for these artists to gain employment, even with the assistance of
government work relief programs, such as the Works Progress Administration (WPA). Set up by
President Roosevelt as part of his New Deal program, the WPA offered jobs to thousands of
unemployed artists, in an attempt to boost the nation s morale, as well as stimulate the depressed
economy. Despite its good intentions, the government program was unable to pay decent wages
and failed to provide employment for nearly five million artists (American). In response to this
failure, the Harlem Artist Guild, founded in 1928, aggressively began to work alongside the WPA
to ensure the success of African American artists. Led by its first president, Aaron Douglas, the
activist organization played an influential role in helping artists attain the recognition necessary to
qualify them for the WPA work projects (Bearden 131). With the assistance of Douglas, the Harlem
Artist Guild, and the WPA, millions of African American artists succeeded in gaining employment
despite the hard times of the 1930s (Artnoir s).

Society judges people based on matters predetermined by elements of their lifestyle. All of this
relates to the human condition and the microcosm that everything is bigger than itself. A
demographic approach from birth to death greatly affects the outlook of the world and others on
the planet. Understanding the refusal to accept others based on patriotism and ethnocentrism
branches into our values and beliefs passing on to children and the world. As people age, they

Genetic Enhancement and Politics Essays
Genetic Enhancement and Politics
Since the beginning of organized government there has always been a clash between science and
politics. Whether it is as complicated as a new drug s detainment of federal approval or whether it
is as commonplace as the social acceptance of a new medical procedure, politics has performed an
integral part in the formation of science; this integrated unit is what greatly affects most of the
society at large. Thus, it is no surprise the scientific discussion of genetic engineering is peppered
with political rhetoric.
Before entering into a discussion of genetics and politics, a few scientific definitions are essential to

Gene therapy is defined as the medical replacement of defective genes in living human cells; its
aim is to replace the activity of a defective gene by activating a dormant gene which has a similar
function (Wheale McNally, 212). Under gene therapy comes the politically controversial Human
Genome Project, a fifteen year, $3 billion federally funded biology program. The goal of the
project is to isolate the defective gene on the chromosomes which comprise the human genome
(Fletcher, 2). In this manner, the Human Genome Project may be able to rid the cancer ridden
genes from human DNA, thereby curing cancer permanently. The project has been the focus of
much scientific and political controversy over the past few years for its possible ramifications are
extensive to all of human existence.
Finally, genetic reductionism is the tendency to stigmatize, ostracize or eliminate individuals or
groups not meeting a genetic norm (Butler, 369). Reductionism is the biggest threat to genome
research and is the most explosive of the three genetic science discussed (gene engineering, therapy,
and reductionism). Certain term such as defective, faulty, advantage, and genetic norm plague the
scientific discussion, thereby causing the very study of genetic manipulation to be political and
controversial.

Sense And Sensibility Play Summary
My impression of the play Sense Sensibility adapted by Jessica Swale was that it was almost like
a soap opera . There were tons of drama throughout the play and was also was almost two and
half hours long. It was based on a family the lives in England from the mid 90 s called the
Dashwood s. Throughout the play it was mostly based on the struggles that the Dashwood s
went through on a daily basis. The main struggle was them losing their father John Dashwood.
They lost their castle of a house and almost all of the wealth. Everything went to Mr. Dashwood
s half brother and his wife. Also, the love feuds that went on between Elinor Dashwood and
Marianne Dashwood played a huge part of the play. Sense Sensibility started off with the
Dashwood s losing their house and basically all of their money. This caused great anger and fear
for the Dashwood family. Before the family had to move out of the house one of the protagonist
Elinor Dashwood fell in love with her sister in law s brother Edward. They had to move into their
distant relatives the Middleton s family. Their house wasn t anything special and lived in a small
town. It was hard for the Dashwood s to adjust to a completely different lifestyle.... Show more

The lights didn t move with the actor. The Dashwood family were the main characters of the
play and they all wore white clothing, which made them stick out more. The director made a
good call on having them all in white because it made them seem more important than the others
and when the other played a different character it obvious. The other characters were dressed in
typical mid 90 s England wardrobe with lots of colors and pants. The scenery of the play was
based on the screen in the back of the stage. It was changed throughout different scenes. The scene

Teacher Classroom Preparation and Setup for a First Grade...
Phase 1 Learning Environment
I am a believer that the environment in a classroom will not only be a place of academics, but an
environment that is inclusive to fostering personal growths as well as relationships. A classroom
should embrace diversity in a cultural and cognitive nature as well. I have envisioned my own
classroom with 20 first grade children. The layout of the classroom I have provided is what I
feel would be the way I would have the class set up for the beginning of a fall semester. As the
school year progresses I will have changes and additions to the classroom as needs to be
accommodated. I am also a believer to keeps students busy and engaged. This includes changing
the seating arrangements every two or three weeks, this keeps the students engaged in new
relationships and the dynamics of their cognitive learning with activities at a different challenge.
Different students have different things to bring to a group. The physical layout of my
classroom would ideally be in groups of four. I will ensure that all students will have the ability
to face the front of the class where instruction is held most of the time. Half of my students will
be facing the front of the classroom while the other students will still be able to face the front
while having their desks at 90 degree turned. The student who is found to be a visual processing
disorder will be sitting in the front and I will have this student sitting next to a general education
student.

Pros And Cons Of International Versus Capital Leasing In...
Throughout all industry, the topic of whether to buy or lease continues to be a relevant question

technological society, many of which I had never even heard of. When the topic of leasing was
presented, I like so many others, immediately thought of car leasing. Leasing takes many forms
aside from the automobile industry. Healthcare, like most all other business industries, is not
exempt from deciding how, when and what to lease. For this particular paper, we will look at the
advantages and disadvantages of operational versus capital leasing and how they relate to a
healthcare organization. In order to gain a full perspective on this issue, it is important to first
define the concept of a lease. A lease is an agreement conveying the right to use property, plant,
and equipment (PP E) usually for a stated period of time (Diffen, 2015). The two parties involved
are the lessee (party paying for use of the asset) and the lessor (party that owns the asset but is
leasing to another). Leasing has become incredibly popular, especially for organizations that may be

The radioactive uranium is used in atomic bombs. Also, people use it in what is called nuclear
power, an energy source that fourteen percent of the world uses. (NPR 3) In a nuclear power plant,
a process called fission that uses uraniumis used to generate power. During fission, each uranium
atom is bombarded by neutrons, causing each uranium atom to turn into one atom of barium, one
atom of krypton, and three neutrons. These three neutrons bombard other uranium atoms, resulting
in more neutrons being produced and creating a chain reaction. Each time the uranium atom split,

uranium mines. Finally, there is not enough uranium in a uranium mine for either of those to blow

Sociology In Sociology
Social structure and social interaction are based on two levels of analysis: Macrosociology and
microsociology. Macrosociology, like its name describes, is focused on the broad view of
society and how it studies society s behavior. Theorists can analyze and distinguish the different
social classes and groups in society. Microsociology is focused on social interaction, how people
react and what they do when they are together. Theorists can examine people s behaviors and
how they communicate to one another. Both can be used to understand society and society s
social life. Macrosociology. In Belize, teachers and lectures tend to be more comfortable around

Homeless and Neglected Children in the 19th Century
In his novel Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain creates a fictional character that must confront very
real problems as a result of cultural and social issues of the time. Many of these such issues, slavery
and race relations being the most prominent, are dealt with significantly by the author, but another
issue not addressed in any sort of overtly significant manner is the plight of homeless, neglected,

Huck is also met with a variety of potentially life threatening situations during his time running and
hiding with Jim. Again, Huck is a mere figment of the author s imagination; therefore, when
confronted with a dangerous situation, he is able to make correct choices for himself, at the
young age of 12. It is hard to believe that most real world 12 year old children would be capable of
making the same good choices when left to their own devices. Granted, Huck was accustomed to a
life of neglect, which would feasibly enable him to deal better with the atrocities and demands of
his particular situation, but the sadness lies in the fact that he had become accustomed to such a
life in the first place.
In today s world, children are seen as individuals who have certain rights as human beings, and who
are worthy of external (or non family) protection. This has not always been the case. For the better
part of the 19th century, there were no rules or regulations in effect that prevented the mistreatment
of children, since they were thought to be completely under the control of their immediate family

the new design retained the conical, nickel alloy walls and fiberglass ablative heat shield of

Theme Of Betrayal In The Metamorphosis
Betrayal is the breaking of trust which produces conflict within a relationship. In The
Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka the protagonist Gregor Samsa awakens one morning to find out

There is evidence that the family could have provided assistance to Gregor; a hospital was

father, followed by his mother, and finally his sister, Grete. Two forms of betrayal in the novel
include Gregor s family members betraying him when he needs them the most and Grete
surrendering her personal values. The first family member to betray Gregor is his father. The
fact that Mr. Samsa is unnamed shows that his character is not as significant in the story; his
only purpose is acting as the catalyst of Gregor s mental and physical decline. From the moment
Gregor s father lays eyes on him in in part one, Mr. Samsa displays no belief that this bug could

Analysis Of The Story Cathedral
Cathedral The story Cathedral demonstrates that lack of sight does not necessarily prevent one
from perceiving things as they are, or live their life to the fullest. In the story, a middle age blind
man, who is a friend to the narrator s wife, and used to be her boss at one point, visits the narrator

blind people was what he had seen on television. Blind people are stereotypically portrayed on
television as slow moving, dull people, who never laugh. Based on this perception, the narrator
was reluctant to meet the blind man and doubted whether they were going to connect. This is

From the Broadbeach study, the investigation of offshore wave conditions erosion rates and
sandbar morphodynamics, show that Broadbeach experienced some unusual experience during
the study period. Given that the wave conditions on the Gold Coast were considerably less
energetic, results suggest that Broadbeach s beach is significantly vulnerable and is more easily
eroded than other beaches reported. Time series of offshore wave conditions combined with the
evolution of the beach volume also suggests that the studied beach is more exposed to high
erosion rates in the presences of NE to E swell. This trend is in agreement with visual observation
all along the Gold Coast. However, the second and third storm wave events are estimated to be of...

During the first and second extreme events mentioned in the study, the 150m wide Coolangatta
Beach experienced the most intense erosion because waves did not reach the vegetated dune. The
beach then recovered markedly, which can be explained by the presence of the sand bypassing
system and sheltering from he SE high waves (Castelle et al., 2007).
The evolution of measured beach volumes over the study period strongly suggests that the Gold
Coast beaches are not able to withstand a powerful succession of extreme vents. The first high
wave event strongly weakened the beaches, which did not recover before the second high wave
event of a magnitude not unusual along the Gold Coast. However, in these two cases, the storms
resulted in surprisingly high erosion rates. Data from a more in depth investigation of Broadbeach,
using video imagery, suggest that outer bar decay, resulting in a lack of protection of the sub aerial
beach, may explain this high erosion.
The present results show that high energy easterly swells have a considerable destructive power on
both northern and southern Gold Coast beaches. Even though no tropical cyclone directly crossed
the Gold Coast, which would have resulted in much higher energy waves and a more severe storm
surge, the erosion measured is the most substantial of the past 30 years. The Gold Coast beaches
investigated lost between 34 and 52m3/m, which, in terms of beach nourishment, is an extremely
large amount of sand. This suggests hat

Practice Ethical Non-Polyamory
As a therapist who often works with non traditional lifestyles, I get a lot of calls from distressed
clients struggling to navigate new relationship structures. The most common of these calls is from
someone who thought they were in a monogamous relationship until their long term partner
suddenly changed the game by unilaterally declaring the relationship open, their orientation
polyamorous or something like that. To be clear, (something sudden game changers aren t)
polyamoryis experienced by many people as a legitimate orientation and lifestyle...when it is
practiced ethically, by mutual consent and ongoing negotiation. True open or polyamorous
relationships can exist only with trust, openness and ongoing negotiation.

for demanding hard work and relentless honesty. and self knowledge.
Ethical non mongamy involves confronting ongoing change, issues of fairness, shifting
relationship dynamics, developing negotiating skills, and a solid relationship with yourself. These
are all skills one needs to be part of any relationship, couple, friendship or family. Whether you
choose to leave a relationship that s no longer working, or navigate a rapid;y changing one, you
will still be in in your most important relationship, the one you have with yourself. Sometimes

Carrie Clarkson Invincible Song Meaning
Thank you for purchasing My Comp I album. The following songs contain special meaning, so I
was able to relate each of them to an essay I wrote during my Comp I class. Music has always
been a passion of mine, so relating my essays to a few of my favorite songs seemed like the
obvious choice. These various songs mesh together and form my Comp I album. So put the cd
in, and let s get listening! Track one: Invincible by Kelly Clarkson. There are several lyrics
embedded in this song which can be related to the My Passion essay. Music is my biggest passion.
After learning to play instruments, I began singing with a private voice instructor. If no one would

Throughout this song, Perry sings about the process she had to go through once she realized her
marriage was failing. In the beginning of the song Perry sings, I was in the dark, I was falling
hard with an open heart. How did I read the stars so wrong . As the song plays on she starts to
say, Now it s clear to me. That everything you see ain t always what it seems. I was dreaming for
so long . Even later she starts to sing about her realization, and the process it took to get her there.
I decided to compare this song to the Process Analysis paper because they both discuss going
through some process. My paper was about the process of creating a successful speech by keeping
calm, memorizing, and adding emotion. Even though these processes are completely different, they
still are comparable because they show growth and improvement within their

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Telescope
The refractor telescope has many advantages and disadvantages. One of the disadvantages is that
the lenses are made of glasses therefore it has to be perfect with no air bubbles or scratches in the
glass as this will impair the users viewing. Another disadvantage is that lense are weakest around
the edges because they are thinnest there and that is the only place they are being supported by the
telescope so this can lead to easy breakage. The lense can have colour distortion which means when
white lightgoes through the lense it is split into colours. Since violet right is refracted more than
red, the violet is brought to a focus clearer and this will make the image coloured and blurred, this
is called chromatic aberration. Some advantages... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The light enters through the objective lense and meets at a focal point. That is then magnified
through an eyepiece where we see the image. The effects of light passing through lenses are
different depending on which lense it is passed through. Double convex lenses works by
refracting light rays that are travelling parallel to the principal axis towards the normal surface.
When it hits the boundary the light is passing to a more dense medium which is usually glass or
plastic. Since the light rays are passing from a medium that it travels fast in to a medium that they
travel slow in, it will bend towards the normal line. Which is shown on this diagram. An image is
formed in a refracting telescope because the first lense (objective lense) is convex and when the
light travels through the lense because the surface is transparent the light travels through the
lense and meets a focal point on the other side to create an image that is real,
magnified(compared to when viewing with the naked eye) and inverted because the image is
formed by real rays that refract and go through the lense instead of reflecting like a mirror. For
example if an astronomer is looking at the moon through a refractor telescope the image he will see
is real but smaller. The eyepiece lense is also inverted (convex) because this allows the image to be
inverted again so it is the right way up for our eyes to see. This formula lets us find the distance of
image1/f=1/do+1/di. An example of using this formula is if a 4 cm object is placed 12 cm in front
with a focal length of 8cm. 1/f=1/do+1/di, в…›=1/12+1/di, в…› 1/12 =1/di, 1/24=1/di, di = 24 this

Walk-In Clinic Case Summary
Facts:
UHS offers medical care to Harvard University students, staff, faculty and their dependents and
is a prepaid system for 90% of the potential users. UHS has annual budget of $10m of which
Walk In clinic accounts for 20% share. The clinic had 12 treatment rooms with 37,400 patients
visiting annually at an average of 143 patients per day. The Walk In clinic had 150 physician hours
available per week and was staffed by 2 registered nurses, 11 nurse practitioners and 22 physicians.
Approx. 45% of nurse practitioner hours were available for walk in. Physicians spent approx. 12/40
hours a week in Walk In clinic.
Situation:
Dissatisfaction with the Walk In Clinic is widespread because of waiting time between sign in and
treatment. Patients also found UHS cold, inefficient, and impersonal.
UHS was dealing with two major problems:
How to reduce the waiting time for patients without affecting the quality of service? Also, should
they expand the 13 Nurse Practitioner guidelines and further define roles of Nurse Practitioner and
Physicians within Walk In clinic?
An attempt was made to reduce the wait time by initiating a triage system which aimed to reduce
wait time from when a patient completes the form to the time it takes to be seen by Registered

A management style is an overall method of leadership used by a manager. There are two main
management styles: Autocratic (leader makes all decisions unilaterally) and Permissive (leader
permits subordinates to take part in decision making and also gives them a considerable degree of
autonomy in completing routine work activities). Combining both categories with democratic and
directive styles give four distinct ways to manage:
Directive Democrat: Makes decisions participative; closely supervises subordinates.
Directive Autocrat: Makes decisions unilaterally; closely supervises subordinates.
Permissive Democrat: Makes decisions participative; gives subordinates latitude in carrying out
their work.
Permissive Autocrat: Makes decisions unilaterally; gives subordinates latitude in carrying out their
work. Managers must also adjust their styles according to the situation that they are presented with.
Additionally, there are four quadrants of situational leadership that depend on the amount of
support and guidance needed: telling, delegating, participating and selling. Different styles depend
on the situation and the relationship behaviour and task behaviour. What s more, skills in
leadership, critical thinking and organization are three general attributes that employers look for by

Persuasive Essay On Antidepressant In Children
Depression is defined as a mental illness in which a person is experiencing deep sadness and
loneliness. It is known as one of the most common mental illnesses and it affects all kinds of
people, regardless of sex, age and religion. Many people are not aware that depression is not only
diagnosed in adults, but in children and adolescents as well. Therefore, there is a debate about
whether children suffering from depression should be allowed to take antidepressants.
Antidepressantdrugs should be prescribed for children suffering from depression under the
conditions of doctors limiting the medication, including therapy and having the parents informed

Antidepressant drugs, which can be lifesaving, are being underused in young people. Their use fell
significantly after the Food and Drug Administration issued its black box warning in October of
2004, stating that all antidepressants were associated with a risk of increased suicidal feeling,
thinking and behavior in adolescents; later on that warning was extended to young adults
(Friedman 1). The Food and Drug Administration FDA ordered drug companies to place a black
box warning on antidepressant drugs, this would then allow parents to see the side effects the drug
might come with. As antidepressants can have its benefits, it is not the only way to treat a mental
illness like depression. The majority of parents believe antidepressant is the only treatment and that
psychotherapy is a waste of time and money. About 80 percent of people with depression respond
positively to professional medical treatment usually talk therapy, medication or a combination of
both and almost all patients gain some relief from their symptoms. Unfortunately, less than half of
those with depression seek treatment(Clayton

The Mayans, as mentioned before, were never unified, and constantly warred with each other.
With rapidly growing amounts of people and already existing tensions, there is a very fair
possibility that large wars may have started breaking down the society, leaving them open for
invaders as well. The government holding the areas together may have begun to diminish and
eventually the whole structure of the civilization would have been destroyed. As religion was
such an immensely dominating part of the Maya society, tensions would have also affected priests
who dealt with the main religious practices, including the use of traditional rituals, ceremonies, or
worshiping their gods. This could ve caused lack of faith, or ~), adding to the strain of the society

Essay On Transformational Leadership
Transformational leadership consists of four components, being charisma or idealized
influence, inspiration and vision, intellectual stimulation and individual consideration
(Marshall, 2011). All of these components are of equal importance when employing
transformational leadership, but the component that I find most personally applicable is
charisma or idealized influence. As a student nurse, my surroundings are always changing, one
moment I am on the labor and delivery unit with a group of peers and the next week I am with a
totally different group of peers in a mental health facility. Being surrounded by an ever changing
group with ever changing goals and objectives I feel as though it is a challenge to emerge as a
leader. It is my personal belief that in order to become a leader, some sort of personal connection
must be forged, and this can be difficult with a revolving schedule. Conversely, it is also my
opinion that despite how well one knows the people that they are surrounded by, if one knows
themselves and their beliefs and values, their charisma will be evident. Being charismatic is about
being a role model and inspiring others to follow based on the personal qualities that one
exemplifies (Marshall, 2011). A charismatic leader knows who they are and where they are going

The Idea Of The Self-Made Man By Pamela Laid
I found Pamela Laird s essay very interesting, and while I ve never subscribed to the idea of a self
made man , I never considered how the notion could be harmful. The concept of the self made
man states that most people can get where they want to be with hard work and a good
entrepreneurial spirit. This idea exemplifies the idea of the American Dream, and creates the
illusion of an America where anyone, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or economic background
could become the next Steve Jobs or Andrew Carnegie. Laird argues that self made success can, at
least in part, be attributed to an economic, political or social advantage. She makes an excellent
argument on how individualism can harm both the individual and the collective. The idea of the
self made man can first be seen during the Protestant Reformation, where people begin to drift
away from the idea that they aren t in control of their circumstances, which were instead dependent
on God. Benjamin Franklin was a very popular model of self made success which inspires
entrepreneurs even today. Thomas Mellon, the founder of the Mellon Bank, looked up to Franklin
for his ambition and aimed to amass wealthfrom Franklin s ideas of self improvement. However,
Franklin spoke about self improvement for the purpose of community and individual growth, and
not for material gain. Franklin, along with United States Representative Alney McLean, used the
idea of the self made man to encourage people to better themselves, gain

Narrative Essay About My Smile
On the road to a new smile on July 21st of the 2009. It felt like a normal Friday, but, I woke up a
little nervous knowing it was the day I would get my braces on. Growing up I noticed that my
smile was not like the other kids smiles. The other kids were losing teeth and bigger teeth would
move into the missing spaces. Their top teethwere all over the bottom straight and their smiles full
of teeth. But I was different, my bottom teeth covering my top, many spaces where teeth should
be. Before we left for the Orthodontist my mom made me stand in front of a wall for a picture of
my smilebefore the braces were put on. Walking through the doors of Kozlowski Orthodontist in
East Lyme my heart racing, not because I was nervous but because I was finally going to be able
to have that perfect smile I ve always wanted. When my mom, brother and I walked in we were
all expecting a typical dental office, like my dad s office, boring old waiting rooms with chairs
that look like they are from ancient history. But instead it was surprisingly very kid friendly, the
chairs where fun colors and there were kids my age there too. Kids with braces, kids getting
braces and kids who just got their braces off. Some were younger than me waiting for their
siblings, while their parents talked to other parents. While waiting for the Doctor we checked out
the waiting room full of kids playing games. The first thing my brother and I saw was that they had
two mario wii games in the waiting room. At that

  • 2. Film and Novel Comarison of Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck... Film and Novel Comarison of Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck For my assignment I am going to compare both directors of the book and the film, and also their writing techniques. The director of the film has many different techniques to utilize; actors, camera shots, location, properties, sound, music, light. Compared to the way John Steinbeck wrote the book, Gary Sinise interpreted the novel very differently. John Steinbeck s novel is sequential, but Sinise chose to ignore this. The writer in contrast, has only words to make their special effects. John Steinbeck uses a Panorama to open his novel. A panorama opening to the novel: California, Gabilan Mountains, Salinas River, Soledad Town, Pool... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next screen shot is of the two men, George and Lennie splashing through the water. There is a medium camera shot. There are sounds of panting, and instinct words. There is tension building here as the music swells. The next shot is of George and Lennie hiding in the reeds, medium cuts to close up, we can see the big man, George, is keeping his head down in disguise so no one can see him. At this point there are constant inter cuts, it looks like the two men are hoping for an escape, the music recedes temporarily. The next shot is the men and their horses and dogs again, looking for something they can t find, perhaps something like George and Lennie. George and Lennie are still hidden in the water, there is a low angle shot used here, and a close up of them two. The figures start to become very tiny, and all the voices start to fade away. There is a long shot of camera use here. There is a different type of music played here; the music is also starting to fade away now, into the background and then gradually the light starts to fade away and the atmosphere becomes pitch black. All you can hear is the sounds of trains passing over the railway tracks, dramatic music playing increases sense of tension, piano, violins, strings, and this slowly introduces the theme. A few miles of Soledad, the Salinas River drop in close to the hillside bands and runs deep and green. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. What Is Poe s Name Of The Animals In The Black Cat In the literature The Black Cat by Edgar Allan Poe. The narrator, mentions that in the next few days he would die. He describes himself as a caring and loving man, who when was young was despised by others for his fear of animals. He married a woman who had the same fear of animals, though she invited many animals to live their home. There were birds, gold fish, a very well dog, rabbits, a tiny monkey and a cat. The name of the cat is Pluto this was the cat s name was my favorite pet and playmate. I alone fed him, and he attended me wherever I went to the house. It was even with difficulty that I could prevent him from following me through the streets (Poe). The man and his cat built a close relationship. As time went on, the man began feeling unkindness. The fury of a demon instantly possessed me. I knew myself no longer (Poe). Later, he grew to be more aggressive again towards Pluto. Then one morning he wraps a cord around the Pluto s collar and drops Pluto from a tree, killing Pluto. The wife and the man walk to the cellar to complete errands. The cat followed me down the steep stairs, and, nearly throwing me headlong, exasperated me to madness. Uplifting an ax, and forgetting, in my wrath, the childish dread which had hitherto stayed my hand, I aimed a blow at the animal, which, of course, would have proved instantly fatal had it descended as I wished. But this blow was arrested by the hand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Truth About M Ms was written and published by Steve Dalager. Steve is a professor, and an English Composition instructor at Lake Superior College in Duluth, Minnesota. The Truth About M M is basically a brand of candy coated chocolate, which describes the varieties of students that usually sign up for English College Composition class at Lake Superior College. Professor Steve has been working at Lake Superior College since 2001, he is also involved in Teacher s Education, and has served as the President of the LSC Faculty Union. Before he started tutoring at Lake Superior College, Professor Steve taught High School English in Bismarck, North Dakota, and Shiprock in New Mexico. In addition, Professor Steve has a Master s Degree in English from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. • 5. How To Write A Letter From A Patriot June 29, 1863 Dear Emily, Please forgive my messy handwriting, for all of the lights are packed away. Tomorrow we are leaving Cashtown and marching into Gettysburg to find supplies. Colonel Smith is still being tended to by the surgeons. I m secretly hoping for him not to get better. I m excited, to fight for my country, for what s right, and for my people and to prove I m an honorable leader. This could, hopefully, improve my rank in the army. I don t trust Smith, I feel as if he may be a double agent . He used to ask me to deliver notes to strangers, or cover for him when he had to meet someone. One time, I went into his tent and three of his slaves were sitting in there, reading through the battle plans and eating our food. Some of the soldiers didn t get anything to eat that night and here these disgusting blacks were eating our food! How dare they! So I punished them like any true Confederate man would do. Then I went to talk to Smith about this, and he kept trying to change the subject. Major Green just called. I have to speak to go speak to Smith. I ll write you again tomorrow dear. Yours,... I bet we could have beat them right then and there, but Smith said to not initiate battle. We went back to Cashtown to face General A.P. Hill. Hill then sent his best men to go back and investigate. His best men included me, but none of my superiors. How embarrassing! We came back to let everyone know that there definitely would be a battle tomorrow. I am ecstatic that he chose me to go over my superiors. I m assuming that there will be a battle tomorrow. More good news is that Smith is to weak to fight tomorrow! I will have the opportunity to lead my men to a victory at the battle of Gettysburg. I have to go consult with other generals about tomorrow s plans. I ll write you again tomorrow ... • 6. Motorcycle Helmet Law Debate The 40 Year Debate; Are Mandatory Universal Motorcycle Helmet Laws Right or Wrong? Across the United States, every year millions of license drivers choose to ride motorcycles rather than drive automobiles for a variety of reasons; Reasons range from individual pleasure to a much more cost effective way to travel. The universal motorcyclehelmet law debate over the past forty years has revolved around whether the federal government should adopt a universal helmet law that mandates all motorcyclists to wear helmets at all times when riding to reduce societies economic cost, or whether the individual rider should have the right to choose rather to wear or not wear a helmet. In 1967, nearly all States implemented a mandatory... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, By 1975, 47 states and the District of Columbia had adopted universal helmet laws. This trend reversed dramatically in the latter half of 1975 when Congress acquiesced to the pressure exerted by groups such as ABATE, and amended the Act to remove the contingency of federal highway funds on universal helmet laws. The amendment led to the repeal of universal coverage in 27 states shortly thereafter (Derrick, Allison J., and Lee D. Faucher 229). Between 1989 and 1994, Congress once again began to try and influence the States to mandate a universal motorcycle helmet law by implementing the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991, also known as ISTEA. ISTEA provided special incentive grants to states with both universal motorcycle helmet laws and passenger vehicle safety belt use laws. A state qualified for a first year grant by having these two laws in effect. In subsequent years, the state also was required to exceed minimum motorcycle helmet and safety belt use levels (helmet use of 75 percent in the second year and 85 percent in the third year). Twenty three states and the District of Columbia received grants for one or more of the fiscal years 1992, 1993, and 1994 for which the grants were authorized (R.G. Ulmer and D.F. Preusser 5). The ISTEA Act was much more effect on the universal safety belt law rather than the universal helmet laws; States were more successful in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Eyes Were Watching God Character Analysis Model Amber Valletta wrote, We are what we see. We are products of our surroundings. A major element of someone s personality is due to their environment or past events of their lives. Janie Crawford is certainly not an exception. This is the story of Janie s Pursuit for love where she, a widowed woman, unfolds her story to her friend Pheoby at dinner. She talks about her childhood with Nanny and The Washburns, her relationships with Logan Killicks and Joe Starks or Jody, her experiences with them along with events that took place while being with them or in relation to them, how they affected her mentality, and how she grows up and matures throughout her life to the self reliant woman telling the story. In The Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston , the struggles in Janie s problematic relationships with Logan and Joe impacted her, which gave her more and more experiences to gradually building up to the independent woman she is in the beginning of the story. The beginning phase of Janie s development was her marriage to Logan, where she thought that the marriage which Nanny forced upon her might end up fulfilling her aspiration for love. Logan was very nice to Janie at the beginning, but later, as time went by, he wasn t as nice to her anymore. One morning Logan called for Janie for her to come out and help him with his work in the fields. Janie! Logan called harshly. Come help me move dis manure pile befo de sun gits hot. Although the production of insecticidal baculoviruses in insect cell cultures has been proposed as an alternative to overcome the limitations of the in vivo processes, so far no in vitro process could be even implemented on an industrial scale in India, and baculovirus occlusion bodies are still produced in infected insectlarvae. Some factors that 25 years ago have hindered the development of large scale production processes for baculoviruses in insect cell cultures, such as the sensitivity of insect cells to the stresses linked to the mechanical agitation in stirred tank reactors and to the bubble rupture in sparged bioreactors, have been resolved and several cell lines can be cultivated today in industrial bioreactors of large volume to... However, most cell lines have not been sufficiently characterized certain issues related to economic feasibilities for entrepreneurs and those issues will be addressed in the present proposal such as 1.Simplification of the composition of the culture medium: The cost of the culture medium will be reduced by applying the more empirical approaches like replacement of costly ingredients, such as amino acids and lipids, by optimized mixtures of raw materials of lower cost such as protein hydrolysates and cooking oils. 2. Possibility to obtain high volumetric yields of viral OBs: The usual strategy to produce baculovirus occlusion bodies in insect cell cultures has been the infection of batch cultures. Generally in batch cultures the high yields are impaired by the cell density effect . Whenever possible, the adoption of alternative strategies of infection could be a way to overcome the cell density effect and thus improve the viral productivity. The fed batch culture, which has proven to be a feasible alternative to increase the yield of recombinant proteins and BV in Sf9 cell cultures at high density, could also be an alternative strategy to increase the yield of occlusion bodies. • 9. Bias Based On Neurological Pathways Bias is commonly known as being stubborn when it comes to one s views; however, bias can announce itself in smaller, more innate ways. In this film, one s implicit bias is an important factor in how the film and its characters will be interpreted by the viewer. Bias is based on neurological pathways that have been formed around one s opinion. Any new information or evidence that supports one s idea, whether it s correct or incorrect, strengthens this bond, or pathway. The brain does everything it can to protect itself from being wrong. A brain can base a conclusion on zero evidence, it can twist information to fit its own bias, and it can stereotype an entire group of people off of an interaction with one person. These are pitfalls in critical thinking, which can make it difficult to break one s bias. In order to think differently or break away from pitfalls in critical thinking, one must literally deconstruct and reconstruct neurological pathways, physically changing one s brain. The first pitfall I experienced while watching The Reluctant Fundamentalist was making a hasty conclusion about a group of people based on my experience with a few. I assumed that in the beginning of the film, when the white man and Pakistani woman were walking together, that the white man was going to assault the woman for her background. I had zero evidence to support that the white man would assault the Pakistani woman; however, I wanted to believe because of my own past experiences that he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The current total population of the Algonquin tribe is 11000 people (The Canadian Encyclopedia, 2/11/16). In the early 1600 s the tribe claimed their territory over the eastern woodlands in the subarctic region; living on higher grounds caused climate restrictions. • 11. Monday Night Football Game Analysis The first Monday Night Football show premiered on US TV sets on Sept. 21, 1970. Ever since that fateful day, Monday Night Football being shown on US TV has been a mainstay of the NFL. In terms of sports betting, Monday Night Football is probably one of the most widely viewed times when football is shown and therefore provides the smart gambler with a way to tap into that. In fact one of the earliest betting strategies which was created to help gamblers profit off of the NFL was the idea of betting on the home underdog for the Monday Night Football game. During the time period that encompasses the 1970s and the 1980s, the strategy of betting on the home underdog for the Monday Night Football game was extremely profitable and helped many gamblers to take home large winnings from this simple strategy alone. ... A better strategy is to follow the handicapping and ignore whether or not the home underdog is the one you are betting on for the Monday Night Football game. Obesity During The Us Military OBESITY IN THE US MILITARY The Department of Defense (DoD) is the largest employer in the United States; there are over 1.3 million men and women on active duty and 826 thousand serving in the National Guard and Reserve forces. Each year roughly 184,000 new military personnel must be recruited to replace those who leave (nber.org, 2010). Recruitment has become more demanding for the U.S. military in the past years. Most of the new recruits entering the ranks are young men and women between the ages of 17 and 20 years old; they are America s sons and daughters. Development As Freedom Summary Sen outlines two different approaches to development policies: the GNP/capital approach, which measures development through GNP and income levels, and the capability approach, which focuses on development through the expansion of freedoms. Given that his book is titled Development as Freedom , he is clear proponent of the latter approach. He offers a critique of the former, both factually and normatively. In his factual critique of policies that focus purely on GNP/human capital, he argues that capital is not an all encompassing yardstick with which to measure development. While capital and capabilities are closely linked, Sen believes that the capital approach focuses predominantly on human beings and their ability to increase production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He paraphrases Adam Smith in saying that to see humans only in terms of their productive use is to slight the nature of humanity , a bold declaration that humans are not just means of production but ends in themselves (296). Early in chapter twelve, he makes the argument that the basic concern in assessing growth and development should be with the expansion of our capability to lead the kind of lives we have reason to value (285). This means we ought to value to everything from the opportunity to find meaningful employment, to the opportunity to live in a safe, peaceful area. These are clearly non capital variables; while income is good measure of someone s capability to buy goods/services, it doesn t indicate their opportunity to live a long, worthwhile life, which Sen proposes we should care about as much as, if not more than just economic growth. Finally, in what is his strongest argument for focusing on freedoms instead of capital, Sen argues that capabilities have an intrinsic value, rather than just an instrumental value (292). Where income and capital are resources that improve people s choices, they are a means to development, not an end; therefore, we ought to value capabilities instrumentally and intrinsically, and use them as our yardstick for measuring ... The jobs may be operation in the production process, take offs and landing at an airport, stages in a construction project, executions of computer programs[30]. Homeless and Neglected Children in the 19th Century In his novel Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain creates a fictional character that must confront very real problems as a result of cultural and social issues of the time. Many of these such issues, slavery and race relations being the most prominent, are dealt with significantly by the author, but another issue not addressed in any sort of overtly significant manner is the plight of homeless, neglected, and otherwise abused children in the 19th century. While Twain in no way attempts to create a commentary on these issues, one cannot avoid focusing on the situation in which he has placed his protagonist. Huck is also met with a variety of potentially life threatening situations during his time running and hiding with Jim. Again, Huck is a mere figment of the author s imagination; therefore, when confronted with a dangerous situation, he is able to make correct choices for himself, at the young age of 12. It is hard to believe that most real world 12 year old children would be capable of making the same good choices when left to their own devices. Granted, Huck was accustomed to a life of neglect, which would feasibly enable him to deal better with the atrocities and demands of his particular situation, but the sadness lies in the fact that he had become accustomed to such a life in the first place. In today s world, children are seen as individuals who have certain rights as human beings, and who are worthy of external (or non family) protection. This has not always been the case. For the better part of the 19th century, there were no rules or regulations in effect that prevented the mistreatment of children, since they were thought to be completely under the control of their immediate family (University of Delaware). It was not until 1874 that the first organization concerned with the protection of children was established in New York. The group called themselves the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (SPCC), after the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), which was an organization in England that had ... The Soviet Union only did two manned flights with the Voskhod program and left it; one flight in 64 and one in 65. The United States had completely changed from their original Mercury program though. During the first and second extreme events mentioned in the study, the 150m wide Coolangatta Beach experienced the most intense erosion because waves did not reach the vegetated dune. The beach then recovered markedly, which can be explained by the presence of the sand bypassing system and sheltering from he SE high waves (Castelle et al., 2007). The evolution of measured beach volumes over the study period strongly suggests that the Gold Coast beaches are not able to withstand a powerful succession of extreme vents. The first high wave event strongly weakened the beaches, which did not recover before the second high wave event of a magnitude not unusual along the Gold Coast. However, in these two cases, the storms resulted in surprisingly high erosion rates. Data from a more in depth investigation of Broadbeach, using video imagery, suggest that outer bar decay, resulting in a lack of protection of the sub aerial beach, may explain this high erosion. The present results show that high energy easterly swells have a considerable destructive power on both northern and southern Gold Coast beaches. Even though no tropical cyclone directly crossed the Gold Coast, which would have resulted in much higher energy waves and a more severe storm surge, the erosion measured is the most substantial of the past 30 years. • 45. What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Telescope The refractor telescope has many advantages and disadvantages. One of the disadvantages is that the lenses are made of glasses therefore it has to be perfect with no air bubbles or scratches in the glass as this will impair the users viewing. Another disadvantage is that lense are weakest around the edges because they are thinnest there and that is the only place they are being supported by the telescope so this can lead to easy breakage. The lense can have colour distortion which means when white lightgoes through the lense it is split into colours. Since violet right is refracted more than red, the violet is brought to a focus clearer and this will make the image coloured and blurred, this is called chromatic aberration. Some advantages... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The light enters through the objective lense and meets at a focal point. That is then magnified through an eyepiece where we see the image. The effects of light passing through lenses are different depending on which lense it is passed through. Double convex lenses works by refracting light rays that are travelling parallel to the principal axis towards the normal surface. When it hits the boundary the light is passing to a more dense medium which is usually glass or plastic. Since the light rays are passing from a medium that it travels fast in to a medium that they travel slow in, it will bend towards the normal line. Which is shown on this diagram. An image is formed in a refracting telescope because the first lense (objective lense) is convex and when the light travels through the lense because the surface is transparent the light travels through the lense and meets a focal point on the other side to create an image that is real, magnified(compared to when viewing with the naked eye) and inverted because the image is formed by real rays that refract and go through the lense instead of reflecting like a mirror. For example if an astronomer is looking at the moon through a refractor telescope the image he will see is real but smaller. The eyepiece lense is also inverted (convex) because this allows the image to be inverted again so it is the right way up for our eyes to see. This formula lets us find the distance of image1/f=1/do+1/di. An example of using this formula is if a 4 cm object is placed 12 cm in front with a focal length of 8cm. 1/f=1/do+1/di, в…›=1/12+1/di, в…› 1/12 =1/di, 1/24=1/di, di = 24 this equation allows us to find the distance of ... All of these components are of equal importance when employing transformational leadership, but the component that I find most personally applicable is charisma or idealized influence. As a student nurse, my surroundings are always changing, one moment I am on the labor and delivery unit with a group of peers and the next week I am with a totally different group of peers in a mental health facility. Being surrounded by an ever changing group with ever changing goals and objectives I feel as though it is a challenge to emerge as a leader. It is my personal belief that in order to become a leader, some sort of personal connection must be forged, and this can be difficult with a revolving schedule. Conversely, it is also my opinion that despite how well one knows the people that they are surrounded by, if one knows themselves and their beliefs and values, their charisma will be evident. Being charismatic is about being a role model and inspiring others to follow based on the personal qualities that one exemplifies (Marshall, 2011). A charismatic leader knows who they are and where they are going and does everything with a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 53. The Idea Of The Self-Made Man By Pamela Laid I found Pamela Laird s essay very interesting, and while I ve never subscribed to the idea of a self made man , I never considered how the notion could be harmful. The concept of the self made man states that most people can get where they want to be with hard work and a good entrepreneurial spirit. This idea exemplifies the idea of the American Dream, and creates the illusion of an America where anyone, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or economic background could become the next Steve Jobs or Andrew Carnegie. Laird argues that self made success can, at least in part, be attributed to an economic, political or social advantage. She makes an excellent argument on how individualism can harm both the individual and the collective. The idea of the self made man can first be seen during the Protestant Reformation, where people begin to drift away from the idea that they aren t in control of their circumstances, which were instead dependent on God. Benjamin Franklin was a very popular model of self made success which inspires entrepreneurs even today. Thomas Mellon, the founder of the Mellon Bank, looked up to Franklin for his ambition and aimed to amass wealthfrom Franklin s ideas of self improvement. However, Franklin spoke about self improvement for the purpose of community and individual growth, and not for material gain. Franklin, along with United States Representative Alney McLean, used the idea of the self made man to encourage people to better themselves, gain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Narrative Essay About My Smile On the road to a new smile on July 21st of the 2009. It felt like a normal Friday, but, I woke up a little nervous knowing it was the day I would get my braces on. Growing up I noticed that my smile was not like the other kids smiles. The other kids were losing teeth and bigger teeth would move into the missing spaces. Their top teethwere all over the bottom straight and their smiles full of teeth. But I was different, my bottom teeth covering my top, many spaces where teeth should be. Before we left for the Orthodontist my mom made me stand in front of a wall for a picture of my smilebefore the braces were put on. Walking through the doors of Kozlowski Orthodontist in East Lyme my heart racing, not because I was nervous but because I was finally going to be able to have that perfect smile I ve always wanted. When my mom, brother and I walked in we were all expecting a typical dental office, like my dad s office, boring old waiting rooms with chairs that look like they are from ancient history. But instead it was surprisingly very kid friendly, the chairs where fun colors and there were kids my age there too. Kids with braces, kids getting braces and kids who just got their braces off. Some were younger than me waiting for their siblings, while their parents talked to other parents. While waiting for the Doctor we checked out the waiting room full of kids playing games. The first thing my brother and I saw was that they had two mario wii games in the waiting room. At that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
