Greek Theatre Research Paper
Theater has been around since the time of the Ancient Greek. It has been a form of social
expression and ideas for years. Theater is sometimes a dramatization of events or ideas to help
better connect the viewers with the situation at hand. I think dramas have become so important to
society due to the fact that is can be molded into many different types forms of expression. A drama
can take you into a fictional land where anything is possible. It brings people thoughts out from
just imagination to a visual performance. The need to see stories acted out is something that bring
imagination to life. No longer is it purely thought. You can see and share the idea with a large
crowd. Young or old, whether you speak the same language or not, being... Show more content on

It is a way of showing and sharing what is social acceptable in the culture. Theater is something
that is very visual and can be used to teach and pass down the skills of a certain society such as,
hunting, farming, family values, etc. Theater entertaining for both the actor and the viewers. It can
even pass on knowledge of current events such as politics. The general public is more likely to to
attend a performance about politics where there is music, masks, and other fun entities. No only is
the public viewing a play, they are learning about the different political events as well. There are
many dramas that depict different events. As societies change so does the dramas that come from
them. Native people have a rich history in their dramas. They depict hunts, spiritual rituals, and
worshipping. Asian dramas on the other hand are more related to family and country values. They
uses props, costumes, and songs in most of their dramas. Although Asian dramas may seem more
elaborate than most, they have very symbolic meaning in all the props and costumes. Even with
these differences, dramas are most widely know form a social expression throughout

The Heroic Women Of Othello

ENGL 211 Brit Lit: Middle Age 18th Century
5 December, 2015
The Heroic Women of Othello A hero is a man or woman distinguished by the performance of
courageous or noble actions (Oxford English Dictionary). In a male dominated society, such as the
one displayed in the play Othello, many of the heroic attributes of the female characters are
overlooked, and they are labeled as either weak or insignificant. However, some of the female roles
within this play are more important and heroic than their male counterparts. The particularly
important women in Othello are the characters Desdemona and Emilia. They are unlike each other in
many ways, yet both are equally strong in their own ways. While Desdemona remains silent and
faithful in the face of adversity, Emilia is outspoken and independent. While the male characters in
this play use their actions to express their dominance, the females use their wit and words to show
their strength against the men that try to oppress them. This play seeks to show the women as they
are: strong, intelligent, and important although they are mistreated by their male counterparts. Both
women attribute heroic attributes to the plot of the play and continue to influence their society
even after death. The women of Othello showed themselves to be the true protagonists of the play
through their unending loyalty, bravery in the face of opposition, and distinct personalities that
complimented one another in order to

The Passenger Pigeon Extinction
The Passenger Pigeon has been extinct since 1914 when the last specimen, a female bird named
Martha, died in captivity at the Cincinnati Zoo. though many thing of extinction as an end all be all,
recent advancements in DNA technology and understanding may make extinction extinct. Scientist
have concluded that it is possible to take still viable dnacells from long dead specimens, implant
them in a closely related modern day specimen, and have a chimera of an extinct species be born.
For many extinct animals there are closely related modern day animals in which could harbor
extinct DNA. Many extinct species such as the Passenger Pigeon and the Mammoth have closely
related modern day relative, such as the the Band Tailed Pigeon and the Asian

Amy Lowell s Patterns
Amy Lowell defines the hopeful liberty of women in the 20th century through a central theme
in the poem Patterns . The woman s dreams of eluding from the boundaries that society has
placed on her fritters away when she learns of her lover s untimely death. She restricts herself
from feeling to make it seem as if there is not softness anywhere about her. Due to being
constricted by whalebone and brocade, the speaker feels like she is forced to live up to the rules
that society enforces upon her. The numerous images that the speaker uses in this poem like the
fluid motions of the flowers and water drops, the dressand her daydreams of her lover all play an
important part in developing the theme of Freedom. At the beginning of Patterns , the speaker
illustrates daffodils dancing freely in the wind. This use of imagery is a tool to appeal to the
audiences sense of sight, these flowers are given movement, and they are described as, blowing,
and Fluttering in the breeze, This description produces a sense of flexibility. The womanhas a desire
to be like the flowers, self confident and carefree. The second stanza of the poem begins with the
woman describing the water in the marble fountain. The plashing of water drops demonstrates
liquid in motion. She notices such little details in a fountain which shows how much the woman
aspires to be free and able to move about as she wishes. The buoyant movement of the flowers and
the water represents a way of life that

Rev. Arthur Dimmesdale and Hester’s Quest for Identity in...
Dimmesdale and Hester s Quest for Identity in The Scarlet Letter
While allegory is an explicit and tempting reading of Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, I see in this
novel also the potential of a psychological reading, interpreting it as a search for one s own self.
Both Arthur Dimmesdale and Hester Prynne goes through this process and finally succeeded in
finding the duality of one s personality, and the impossibility of complementing the split between
individual and community identity. However, they were compelled to take different paths on this
journey, and they react quite differently when they finally arrive at the conclusion of this search.
Dimmesdale and Hester start out from the same point: their adultery. This sin ... Show more content

Indeed, Dimmesdale longs to speak out that secret, and lighten the burden on him. Why, then, does
he not? Dimmesdale, in his own words, answers thus:
Guilty as they may be, retaining, nevertheless, a zeal for God s glory and man s welfare, they
shrink from displaying themselves black and filthy in the view of men; because, thenceforward,
no good can be achieved by them; no evil of the past be redeemed by better service. So, to their
own unutterable torment, they go about among their fellow creatures, looking pure as new fallen
snow; while their hearts are all speckled and spotted with iniquity of which they cannot rid
themselves. (132)
In other words, the fear of social rejection prevents him from speaking the truth. This fear is not just
simple cowardice, but is strengthened by his social stance, his identity. He builds his own identity
with relation to the society, because he cannot turn to himself. He sees himself as being filthy,
wretched, and sinful. He needs to turn to the community for acceptance. He establishes himself as
the pillar of his community. The loss of social acceptance, or, moreover, the abhorrence and
rejection of his fellow citizens, then, would mean more than a cruel reminder of his crime, but the
collapse of his whole identity.
With this strong dependence on the society, Dimmesdale becomes a social man , instead of an
individual

Southern Cone History
Throughout the United States of America the Southern Cone and its history may be an unknown.
However, two countries located in Latin America s Southern Cone have important histories that are
relevant to the America. Argentina and Paraguay are major nations of the southern cone that
participated in an undercover operation called Operation Condor which connects many countries of
the Southern Cone. Argentina is the biggest country of the southern cone and has a unique history
with penguins. The Magellanic penguins call Argentina home. These penguins have an interesting

Paraguayans do not have many historical happy times in their past. Their history leading up to
Operation Condor involves three men that led the country to a government based on military
dictatorships. After Jose Francia and Carlos Lopez, two of the first leaders of Paraguay after
winning independence from Spain, Francisco Lopez is in power in 1862 (Resnick). Lopez was
interested in not being a country of isolation and forced everyone to be part of the military
unless one was a priest or could pay the price to not be in the military. While he signs a treaty
with Uruguay a war is about to begin over who is in power in Uruguay. Lopez runs into trouble
with bringing Paraguay into the War of the Triple Alliance. Paraguay falls on the wrong side having
to fight against Brazil, Argentina, and the Colorado Party of Uruguay (Resnick). Paraguayans are
forced with two options that both end in death: not fight and be executed by Lopez or go to war
and be killed by Brazilians, Argentinians, or Uruguayans. Paraguay eventually has to even send
their children to fight due to the loss of many people. After Paraguay loses the war, Brazil takes
the country over. The next known leader that Paraguay has after Brazil leaves is Alfredo
Stroessner. This man starts the process of Operation Condor in 1975 (Resnick). Stroessner
becomes leader of Paraguay in 1954 due to his planned military coup taking over the nation. He was
the Commander in Chief of the military in Paraguay controlling all parts of the military. Stroessner
put conditions in place like Argentina with additions including secret police, censorship, prison
camps, torture, no freedom of speech, banning unions, curfew, dissolving Congress, and suspending
the Constitution. His reason for the military coup and the new conditions put in place in Paraguay
was due to the fear of

Pilgrim s Host
No one likes to be the butt of a joke, Pilgrim Chaucer included. In the Prologue to Sir Thopas, the
Host, Harry Bailey, a crude, hulking man, taunts Pilgrim Chaucer by making fun of his quiet
manners and delicate appearance. Lacking a physical advantage over the Host, Pilgrim Chaucer
wisely chooses to get back at him by using his wits. Rather than getting upset over Harry s slurs,
the Pilgrim takes his revenge in a more subtle way by telling a tale guaranteed to irritate his Host:
a lilting, ridiculous piece of fluff about a hopelessly effeminate knight called Sir Thopas. Through
the use of camp language and phallic symbols, Geoffrey Chaucer, in his poem the Tale of Sir
Thopas, creates a mocking counterpoint to his Host, and exposes Harry s... Show more content on

The Nazis And The Nazi Past
The Nazis left a lasting legacy that is still felt around the world today. The Nazi past weighs most
heavily on Germany and its citizens who still grapple today with what the Nazis mean to their
identity. This struggle was much different in the years immediately following World War II and the
subsequent creation of divided Germany than today. In the German Democratic Republic (East
Germany), the Nazi past was completely ignored. Instead focused on the West as the enemy. In the
Federal Republic of Germany the government also attempted to ignore the Nazi past, with the
government focusing more on building a democracy rather than emphasizing the brutal past.
However, in a free society issues of identity are much harder to contain . The Nazi past began to
come up despite these concerted efforts to bury it, yet even when questions about the past began to
be raised, people in the 1960s were nearly ignorant about the real atrocities that the Nazis had
committed . From 1963 1965, State Attorney Richard Bauer indicted 22 Nazi officials who had
worked at the Auschwitz Birkenau concentration camp . These trials attempted not only to educate
average Germans about what had truly happened during World War II, but also to eliminate the idea
that everyone who had committed these crimes were abnormal monsters, the concept that allowed
the German population of the post war era to distance themselves from this evil. In the 1960s the
concept of Auschwitz Birkenau, and the Nazi concentration

Thesis Statement For Supernovas Essay
Supernovas Ebaad Usmani P1 Thesis Statement: Supernovas are big explosions of light that
occur when a star has a lot of fuel inside it which causes the star to explode. Supernovas are when
stars die, they turn into brilliant points of light and explode. Supernovas are considered the
largest explosion to take place in space, and in galaxies, they usually appear in other galaxies, but it
s really hard to find one in our own galaxybecause there is always dust that blocks our way, so it
can be tough to find a supernova. There are 2 ways a supernova can occur. The first way a
supernova can happen is when a stargathers up a lot of matter from nearby stars until the star has a
nuclear reaction and explodes which causes a supernova. The second way a supernova can occur is
when a star is much bigger... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One type of supernova has shown scientists that according to the solar system, there are other
universes out there, we just don t know what they look like. According to scientists, supernovae
play a key role in distributing elements throughout the universe. Ordinarily when something
explodes, there are always random scraps of thing flying everywhere, so when a star explodes, it
does the same and it shoots elements and debris everywhere around space. Most of the elements
are the core of stars, these elements form to create new stars, and small planets in the solar
system and in many other solar systems. Scientists look for supernovas by using advanced
telescopes, and items. Some of these telescopes are used to look at other explosions in space
beside supernovas. Others are used to study x rays and gamma rays. Either way, they are all used

Essay On Freelance Writing
Freelance Writing Mistakes That Could Ruin Your Career
Freelance writing is certainly a lucrative venture if you re looking for a side hustle to supplement
your income. In fact, if you play your cards right, freelance writing could be your main and best
source of income. However, most online writers end up making unavoidable mistakes that destroy
their freelancing careers long before they ve had a chance to grow. There are, of course, hundreds
of mistakes you could potentially make, but this article focuses on # of the worst.
Poor marketing

Your level of professionalism could make or break your freelance writing career. You should always
be polite regardless of the client s temperament. But professionalism is more than just how you
address your client. It also includes your availability, communication, integrity, etc.
Overconfidence
Much as you should be confident in your skills as a writer, you should never let this get in your
head. Overconfidence often pushes people to make mistakes and you shouldn t consider yourself
an exception. Freelance writing involves a lot of criticism, learning, and mistakes. As an online
writer, you should understand that you are neither perfect nor are you all knowing. Therefore, you
should always be open to criticism and suggestions, have an understanding of your limitations, and
always make an effort to learn more about your field of experience. The greater danger with being
overconfident is that despite making mistakes you remain oblivious. This, in turn, increases the
likelihood of repeating the same mistakes and destroys the client s confidence in you. On the same
breath, let me point out that as a freelancer, you should never consider yourself indispensable. Your
work might be exceptional but you can always be replaced. Knowing this should help you fight to
protect your job and maintain a great working relationship with your clients.

Hamlet And Ophelia Do Not Believe In Hamlet
Hamlet was written during a time of religious conflicts. The people of (figure out where they are
from) were living in confusion of what was real and what wasn t. William Shakespeare took this
conflict and created the famous play Hamlet. He created this to help people feel secure with what
they believed in, whether it was different from their neighbor s idea, or familymembers. Crediting
Shakespeare for his creativity of bringing forward insanity into the play brings a portrayal of what
people could believe and what others may not believe. At the end of the play, we see Hamlets true
feelings for Ophelia. Comparing Hamlet and Ophelia, by observing their relationship, and seeing
their similarities, could one say they were meant to be? Crediting Shakespeare for his creativity

Research Paper On Keloid
Keloids were described around 1700 BC by Egyptian Surgeon1. In 1806 Baron Jean Louis

of tissue stem cells. 2) Deposition of connective tissue to form scar.27
Normal wound healing is very important in understanding the pathogenesis of keloid. It comprises
three phases which are 1) Inflammatory phase 2)Fibroblastic Proliferation 3) Remodelling
After skin injury complement cascade stimulates the migration of inflammatory cells by releasing
vasoactive and chemotactic mediatiors. Macrophages plays a vital role in transition from
inflammation to granulation phase by releasing cytokines. In fibroblastic phase fibroblast migrate
into the wound and produce new structural framework by deposition of type І and type ІІІ
collagen. In maturation phase stimulatory and angiogenetic factors decreases resulting in regression
of hyperemia associated with early wound repair.

Analysis Of An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge
An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge by Ambrose Bierce has the audience feeling multiple
emotions such as shocked and on the edge of their seat from start to finish. Peyton Farquhar is a

misleading the readers by the way Bierce represents the timing between the events that go on. In

men, all were commingled and blurred it allows the authors to picture him running far away
from the bridge like he was making his elaborate escape (Bierce). It was as if he finally broke
away from the soldier and that he was going to be saved. Everything in Section III is emphasized
as reality to the audience as if it is really happening, though it is all Peyton s thoughts right before

Freedom And African American History Essay
Freedom And African American History 1 XIN LI The United States is a immigrant country,
which faces varieties of problems. The African American problem is one of the most serious one.
Racial segregation is a deep rooted social problem, which reflects in every field in the United
States. For example, education, labor market and criminal justice system. In the aspect of
education, most of black children were not permitted to enter the school, because the white children
studied there. In the aspect of labor market, the black peoples average wages were lower than the
whites. They did the manual work. In the aspect of criminal justice system, the blacks were
easily in jail. Badly, their sentences were also more serious than the whites. In general, the blacks
live in the bottom of the American society. Martin Luther King delivered the famous speech I
Have a Dream, I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they
will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. (1) However, it
was difficult for African Americanto get the freedom. The 1776 Declaration of Independence
announced that everyone are equal and freedom. But black slavery still occurred in the southern
states of America. Then the Civil War broke out, African American kept struggling for land and
political rights.

The Transformation of Gilgamesh in the Epic of Gilgamesh
The Transformation of Gilgamesh in the Epic of Gilgamesh
In The Epic of Gilgamesh by we see significant transitions in the hero s character as the story is
developed. In this narrative poem, we get a glimpse of who he is and what his purposes and
goals are. We see Gilgamesh act in many different ways. As an overbearing ruler resented by his
people, a courageous and strong fighter, a deflated, depressed man, and finally as a man who
seems content with what he s accomplished. Through all of these transitions, we see Gilgamesh s
attitude toward life change. The goals he has for his own life alter dramatically, and it is in these
goals that we see Gilgamesh s transition from being a shallow, ruthless ruler to being an
introspective, content man.
The epic begins with the men of Uruk describing Gilgamesh as an overly aggressive ruler.
Gilgamesh leaves no son to his father; day and night his outrageousness continues unrestrained;
And he is the shepherd of Uruk, the enclosure; He is their shepherd, and yet he oppresses them.
Strong, handsome, and wise. . . Gilgamesh leaves no virgin to her lover. (p.18, Line 23 27) The
citizens respect him, but they resent his sexual and physical aggression, so they plead to the gods
to alleviate some of their burden. The gods resolve to create an equal for Gilgamesh to tame him
and keep him in line. This equal, Enkidu, has an immediate impact on Gilgamesh. When they first
meet, both having never before met a man equal in stature,

What Role Did The Setting Of Monetary Policy Play On...
What role did the setting of monetary policy play in housing market developments?
Monetary policies play can or not play a major role in the housing developments. This all depends
on the supporting evidences provided that aligns with the goals of the policy makers. In this
scenario monetary policy was not the initial reason for the extraordinary strength in the housing
markets. According this case study, a relationship between interest rates and housing activities is
not adequate enough to explain the rise in residential investments or house prices. However some
increase in housing markets can attest to lower interest rates and favourable monetary policies that
followed after the 2011 recession, which was actually a small factor, As... Show more content on

Similar to the United States and as noted by Taylor (2008) and Ahrend and others (2008), In light of
these considerations, the evaluation of policy settings is perhaps best done through a comparison of
projected outcomes for the policy objectives given policy expectations; such a comparison involves
examining whether the forecasts of policymakers, the private sector, or other forecasters were
consistent with a balancing of the price stability objective and the full employment objective (for
example, the unemployment rate in the neighborhood of its estimated natural rate). This guidance
was designed to influence asset prices, economic activity, and inflation in a manner consistent with
the goals of price stability and full employment. As has been emphasized by many researchers, the
guidance of expectations is the primary channel through which policy affects economic outcomes
the overnight interest rate in the interbank market is in itself in consequential for economic activity,
except to the extent that it affects expectations of the future path of this rate, which in turn
influence a broad array of asset prices important to aggregate spending and price setting.

Mulan Vs. Neo-Confucianism In China
During the Zhou Dynasty, Confucius sought out to improve society and make it peaceful, through
having a clear order and harmony throughout society as China was in the Warring States Period .
Confucius allowed anyone that was willing or able, to learn the values of Confucianism, although
his teachings were not popular during his time. After his death, the ethical system helped China
reshape its government into a more stable one. The movie Mulan inaccurately displays the ideas of
Confucianismsuch as the most important relationships, women in confucianism and neo confucian
sayings.
Mulan fails to accurately represent the most important relationships. One example of this is when

For example, when Mulan and her fellow combatants were challenged to get a arrow on the very
top of a wooden pole while being weighed down by heavy weights used to represent discipline
and strength, everyone failed. As Mulan persevered and struggled to climb the pole, by doing
so she discovered a new and more effective way of climbing, which goes against the neo
confucian saying The woman with no talent is the one who has merit. . (Lessons for Women)
This saying means that a more passive women with no abstract specialty is one who has claim to
praise and respect. Another example of inaccuracy is when Mulan disobeys her Captain s orders
when Captain shang ordered the men to aim the last rocket at Shang Yu, this disobedience was
against the saying Women are to be led and to follow others. . The actions performed by Mulan
clearly shows how Confucianism is not portrayed in this movie. Finally, when the Huns kidnaped
the emperor, Captain Shang tried to break in through the main gates by smashing it with a statue.
Mulan being as clever as she was, thought of an elaborate plan that would get them into the palace
and save the emperor. After thinking about this plan she immediately took charge and ordered men
to carry out this plan with her. The saying A woman s duty is not to control or take charge. is being
contradicted by Mulan s actions. In conclusion, neo confucian sayings have not been represented
accurately throughout the movie

The On The Other Hand, Parole, By De Saussure
On the other hand, parole refers to the use of the langue the action in and of itself. It occurs in the
phenomenon of language as a sequence of speech. Parole, which includes both written and spoken
languages utilized in everyday life, is extremely diverse and varied dependent upon the number of
people attempt to use a common language. In addition, de Saussure noted the constant change that
parole undergoes as social groups, and age of users manipulate the language over time.
De Saussure s interpretation of the underlying basis of language also included a composition of
signs as opposed to sentences. Signs consist of two parts: a notion and a sound/written pattern.
Without a sound, the notion is incommunicable. Similarly, without a notion, sound patterns are just
noise. Without a comprehensive understanding of langue, parole is a meaningless collection of
sounds or symbols grouped together at random. By understanding the relationship between the two
parts of a sign, langue and parole create meaning. Therefore, de Saussure spoke heavily on the
importance of understanding the langue of a language, especially a foreign one, than to grow the
vocabulary of parole. By approaching a nonnative language as such, the speaker increases his or her
ability to make sense equal to that of a native speaker. Language acts as a link that allows thought to
be expressed through sound. As thoughts become more coherent, thus leading to the creation of
sounds in words and phrases, language

A single thread cannot become a cord, and a single tree does not make a forest. This Cheng Yu is
about cooperation and being part of a larger whole. Its roots stem from Confucian beliefs of
organized society through togetherness. This is in stark contrast to the emphasis placed on
individualism in some Western countries.
Introducton
Tearroir is a global tea brand that sources premium loose leaf tea from 7 countries. The need to
overcome cross cultural difference in communication is a major issue in achieving affective
knowledge transfer and performance in today s globalised world (Holden, Von Kortzfleisch, 2004,
pp127). Knowledge evolves as both organisations and individuals adapt to internal/external
environments, it is one of the most important assets for any organisation (Rivera Vazquez, Ortiz
Fournier, Flores, 2009, pp257). Cross cultural differences are never more of a barrier to successful
communication inl business than in the case of verbal and non verbal communication (McShane,
Olekalns, Travaglione, 2010, pp367). Tearroir s mission statement is the best teas on Earth for this
to be realised we need to be effective communicators with people from varied cultural backgrounds.
Cross cultural communication issues often occur because people react to situations based on
beliefs, values and expectations of their own culture, the examples of face and guan xi will be

The Importance of Brown V. The Board of Education To understand the importance of Brown V.
The Board of Education of Topeka, one must take into account the gravity of the prevailing law
and attitude that existed in 1954. In 1896, the Supreme Court established the separate but equal
doctrine in the case of Plessy V. Ferguson. Essentially the court was saying that blacks should be
treated equally but due to an obvious difference, race, blacks could be treated equally but separate.
Justice Henry Brown wrote in his majority opinion; The object of the Fourteenth Amendment was
undoubtedly to enforce the absolute equality of the two races before the law, but in the nature of

experienced Supreme Court advocate. He had already challenged all white primary elections in
Smith V. Allwright, and restrictive covenants in Shelley V. Kraemer. His style was
straightforward and plainspoken. He held no punches and got to his point without a lot of
dramatics. When asked for a definition of the word equal by Justice Felix Frankfurter, Marshall
replied, Equal means getting the same thing, at the same time, and in the same place. 2 This was
the basis of his case. Chief Justice Earl Warren presided over the case, and on May 17, 1954

that; separate education facilities are inherently unequal 3 and that racial segregation violates the

It might be argued that Chekhov felt Ibsen to be in some ways, as a thinker, too like himself.
Ibsen and Chekhov share a number of beliefs: individualism, sincerity, the loathsomeness of
tyranny, freedom for women. Tolstoy even condemned the seagull for being like Ibsen: mere
verbiage leading nowhere .
But Chekhov employs a different technique to Ibsen to produce a sense of reality in The Cherry

Review Of Crime And Punishment
In Crime and Punishment, Raskolnikov is depicted as crushed by poverty, but the anxieties of his
position had of late ceased to weigh upon him (Dostoyevsky 3). During 1861, the Emancipation
Reform had recently taken place. The economy was suffering and the need for money became
crucial. The protagonist of the novel, Raskolnikov, struggles to earn money, which associates with
his behavior. Fyodor Dostoyevsky, the author of the novel, considers Raskolnikov a divided
character with different opinions. Raskolnikov displays characteristics of being delusional, self
centered, and confused, which makes his character intriguing. Throughout the course of Part One,
Raskolnikov has become delusional which contributes to his insanity. Over a course of time, he
lost his ability to think and function on a normal basis. In addition, Raskolnikov lost his ability to
control himself and has become impulsive. After the murder of the Pawnbroker and her sister,
Lizaveta, Raskolnikov evolves into paranoia. His thoughts have become irrational and erratic.
Raskolnikov has a conversation with himself where he mentions [h]e suddenly began to imagine
that the old woman is still alive and might actually come to. Abandoning keys and bureau, he ran

Eliminating the Price Effect of an Index Automatically...
By the attempt to eliminate the price effect from an index fund, the fundamental index managers
change the set up of the index in such a way that it automatically changes the basic characteristics of
the index. As shown in exhibit 10 of the Research Affiliate case, fundamental indices usually not
only deal with a higher turnover ratio but also with a higher net expense ratio, for implementing the
fundamental strategy in reality seems to go hand in hand with higher costs.
Looking at commonly used multiples in exhibit 11, we see no surprises. While the P/E ratio for the
RAFI index is only slightly smaller compared to the Russell 1000 index, the Price to Book/Cash
Flow/Sales ratio is fundamentally lower in all categories for the RAFI index. More interesting is
the fact that the RAFI index is composed of companies with an on average lower market
capitalization as well as a higher leverage ratio, which might be a hint that the RAFI is also taking
on more risk to produce the excess returns. Even though Research Affiliates uses several methods
to eliminate a bias towards a specific sector/type of company, research shows that fundamental
indices are clearly more exposed to value and small stocks, which is further illustrated in exhibits
12 14.
Looking at exhibits 11 13 we directly observe RAFI s strong exposure towards financial
institutions. Citigroup and Bank of America alone account for roughly 15% of the index while
Citigroup is not even found within the 10 largest

Has freedom of speech changed since then? Some schools nowadays punish kids for online
social media comments. (WHEELER) For example, if a student posts something on Facebook,
and another kid comments on that status with a rude remark, the kid who posted it could take
that to the principal s office and the kid who commented on it could get in trouble. Some could
say it was cyber bullying, some could say it was just a witty/rude remark, not meant to be taken
seriously. Is this a violation of free speech/expression? Another reason school authority figures
have a lot of power over whether or not a student gets in trouble for what they say, posts, or wears,
is that the school can discipline a student just because they personally or morally did not like the
comment/post. Most of the time, the kids that get in trouble for something they post are in their
own home, on their own laptop, during their free time outside of school. So why does the school
have so much power over these situations the majority of the time? The digital age, with its
wonderful capacity to democratize speech, is so important to students rights, but also carries new

Benefits And Benefits Of Therapeutic Privilege
Aims and objectives
In medicine, because of the principles of self determination, the patient should be given all the
relevant information in order to allow them to give fully informed consent. However, when doctors
exercise the therapeutic privilege, they apply their professional opinion to assess when information
should be withheld. When a concept as fundamental as consent is undermined extensive research is
necessary. Hence, why I want to investigate doctors justifications and patients reactions to
therapeutic privilege.
Lawrie argues, even those most dedicated to patient autonomy will allow for the use of therapeutic
privilege. Therapeutic privilege occurs when information relating to treatment and the associated
risks is withheld because doctors believe disclosure will have a detrimental effect, to the extent that
recovery may be affected. Therapeutic privilege is judicially confirmed in Sidaway, and recognised
in subsequent cases such as Chester. Sidaway confirms that doctors must justify why they are
choosing not to fully disclose to the patient.
The research purpose is to assess the use of therapeutic privilege. Therefore my research has the
following two objectives:
To evaluate what justifications doctors have for using therapeutic privilege in practice.
To explore the opinions of previous patients in relation to not being allowed to give fully informed
consent and what effects they feel this may have.

I remember watching part of my brothers Dave Ramsey financial piece university video. It stated

much lower, an entry level position with a college degree is between thirty and thirty five

Consequences Of Deception In Romeo And Juliet
Never attempt to win by force what can be won by deception. ― Niccolò Machiavelli. The term
deception takes a part in betraying another for one s self interest. It was a key element within
Shakespeare s work. Romeo and Juliet is one of the prime examples of this topic. They showed
deception very clearly by hiding their actions and betraying their families, leading to their tragic
ending. However, it was not the only piece Shakespeare wrote that showed the multiple
consequences caused by an act of betrayal. The power of deception and the consequences that
follow is a staple in literature, and no one shows this idea more clearly than Shakespeare. Oh!
What A Tangled Web We Weave When First We Practice To Deceive Sir Walter Scott.
Shakespeare is one of the most celebrated authors in history, weaving deception throughout his
writings. As he wrote about love, deception was seen over and over within his pieces. An
example of Shakespeare s work is from Sonnet 138, O, love s best habit is in seeming trust. This
sonnet was based around a man and his mistress. The man knows that she lies about being faithful,
but he also is aware that they do it in order to protect each other and their relationship. Later in
Sonnet 157, the audience sees the outcome of the deception in Sonnet 138, as they are told that the
man and his mistress are no longer. In the story of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo quotes, O, how may I
call this lightning? O my love! My wife! Death, that hath suck d the honey

Most of these water supplyfor Caracas flow from 2 major national parks. The water supply is

Some of these water supplies come from the El Avila national park as does from the Macaroa
national park. The majority of them are surface bodies of water but flow within the underground
watershed to conserve the water supply during the drought. It is understandable that, Of all the
drinking water consumed in the city of Caracas, over eighty percent comes from the Tuy I, Tuy II

These basins have been undermined in recent years by long droughts, combined with short rainy

Microbiota Transplant Essay
Fecal Transplantation Therapy (Presentation Outline by Samantha McClenahan)
Slide 1: What is FMT and why is it preformed?
Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT) is a procedure in which fecal matter, or stool, is collected from
a tested donor, mixed with a saline or other solution, strained, and placed in a patient, by
colonoscopy, endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, or enema.
The purpose of fecal transplant is to replace good bacteria that has been killed or suppressed,
usually by the use of antibiotics, causing bad bacteria, specifically Clostridium difficile, or C. diff.,
to over populate the colon.
C. difficile colitis may be associated with diarrhea, abdominal cramping and sometimes fever and
dehydration from diarrhea may lead to death.

Initial infection treated with an antibiotic that specifically targets the C. difficile organism.
Antibiotics used for the treatment of this infection include metronidazole, vancomycin and
fidaxomycin.
Current treatment for FMT is the use of antibiotics; however, the relapse rate it high with over half
a million cases in the use and 15,000 related deaths occurring annually.
In 30 percent of treated individuals, the infection returns within a few days or weeks after finishing
the antibiotic course.
In 2013, the New England Journal of Medicine showed that fecal transplantation is more effective
than oral vancomycin in preventing further recurrences in individuals who have already had
recurrent C. difficile colitis.
As of 2013, fecal transplantation is currently not routinely performed for indications other than
recurrent C. difficile colitis. More research studies are still needed to determine if fecal
transplantation should be performed for other clinical indications. Fecal transplantation for other
clinical indications should be considered experimental, and performed only as part of a research
study where your safety is closely

Response Essay I Was Once a Fetus: That Is Why Abortion Is Wrong
First, Pruss asserts that abortion is wrong because killing a fetus is human. According to his article,
the fetus isn t different from anybody. I agree with Pruss about abortion is wrong because the fetus
has right to live. Moreover, a human fetus is simply of a human being at an earlier stage in
development than I and you are nothing suggests that it is anything other than a human. A human
fetuses are human, before and after birth. So because it is human, killing it is just as wrong as
killing a fully developed, adult human being. Pruss is an associate professor of philosophy at
Baylor University, states that, each individual person develops from a fetus (70). That s absolutely
correct. And, of course, it equally applies to all human life.
In addition to his thought that killing a fetus is wrong and a crime, Pruss confirms that killing a
fetus is a crime with a victim. I cannot refuse life until the age of 3 months. I m surprised how

People from the spaghetti western world think of Buddhism as a conviction where people take

Kenneth Kraft has agreed with the idea that this mundane awakening in Buddhism started with
Siddhartha but was hidden. These principles such as equal opportunity, social change and ethical
sensitivity as emphasized in the west can now be realized. Buddhist believes that the poor needs
more attention as life need a lot of material things than those who have enough and those who have
more than enough need to focus on the information that there are people in need. Buddhist
liberation movements are a major change for the religion and will continue to do so in the future.
Mata feels that the future should be devoted to development of motherhood as women have the
ability to transform the world through there healing powers. She believes that mothers are the ones
who teach love and patience in the minds of their children as with them throughout their life.
Although motherhood is not limited to those who given birth, both men and women can be
mothers as motherhood is the what and how a person thinks and the love that a person can pass on
to a child. A mother passes love and kindness to her children. These qualities are even passed
through her breast milk. These thoughts and character that are molded into a child

Ruby The Rain
What are you doing? What are you doing? WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?! (Bergin 209).
The world is in shambles. The human race as we know it is in danger of extinction. All that is
certain is that it will rain. The pitter patter of precipitation on a rooftop is enough to set tranquility
into even the most anxious of people; it is a soothing sound that many souls readily embrace.
However, even the rainhas its dirty little secrets. In The Rain by Virginia Bergin, fifteen year old
Ruby Morris must face an unrelenting terror from above. There is something in the rain resilient,
sun shaped bacteria that devour human flesh. After losing most of her friends and family to the
rain, Ruby makes it her goal to find her father no matter the cost. While... Show more content on

Ruby s first lesson in survival is a list consisting of seven fundamental rules of survival ranging
from DON T GO OUT IN THE RAIN (68) to DON T EAT ANYTHING THAT S BEEN
OUTSIDE (69). These guidelines are essential to survival, but what seems to be the most
effective is the rule simply labeled THINK (70). This is put in place in order to ensure that Ruby
takes into account the most insignificant of details before she makes decisions. It is incorporated
into her routine and she commits herself to thinking before she acts a habit that saves her life
on multiple occasions. Ruby picks up on this change herself, stating late in that book that she
didn t just look and decide Hey, it s not raining let s go! The newer version of the new [her]
thought Nuh uh (329). On top of her cognitive abilities, Ruby learned that even she cannot bend
and bow to the needs of all. When faced with obstacles such as infected citizens, Ruby realizes
that the sole sound way to safely surmount them is to protect her party. Such a scenario is shown
when she is promised water by a haphazard group stationed at a public pool. Upon arrival,
drunkards soak an innocent man using tainted water, infecting him. He then falls directly into the
pool, subsequently tainting the large body of water. In order to avoid being infected, she gathers
her party into a supply closet and locks the door, ultimately condemning all on the opposite side of
the barrier. Though charitable, Ruby s compassion has a limit, and that limit is reached when the
lives of her party are endangered and her instincts take control. Hereafter, she uses her honed
survival skills to guide her team to their final destination with necessary

Feminism And The Second Wave Of Feminism
Any given person can define feminism in a different way. Some view it as a women s movement
for women, by women and against men. It can also be hard to distinguish the different types of
feminism when the more radical, outspoken people or organizations can overshadow the rest. In
general, feminism is another way in which to view things, another lens in which to see the world. It
is another platform for people to express themselves as whole individuals and become a voice for
others that may otherwise remain unheard. Feminismas a whole takes a look at social constructs
and gender norms and begins to deconstruct them to create an environment that is equal and
accepting of all persons. In the second wave of feminism, many women began to break out of the
roles as housewives and mothers and speak up for equality. Gloria Steinemis among many of the
influential women who took the world by storm with their radical ideas of feminism and challenge
the ideals that society had set forth for post war women of the time. Before joining Bella Abzug
and Betty Friedanin the formation of the National Women s Politic Caucus, Gloria Steinem was
taking care of her divorced, mentally ill mother in Toledo, Ohio. Steinem spent six years caring
for her mother before she left for Smith College where she obtained a degree in government, a
choice that was non traditional for a woman at the time. After establishing herself as a freelance

Analysis Of The Stanley The Stanley Parable
The Stanley Parable (2013) was a game released to widespread acclaim about a man named
Stanley, whose coworkers mysteriously disappear from the office and whose actions and choices
are subsequently voiced by a narrator. While at first the game might seem simple and ordinary, the
longer spent in the gamethe more complex the narrativeis revealed to be. The game satirizes a lot of
conventions and narrative tropes used throughout the games industry, as well as commenting on
other facets tied heavily to the games medium, like hacks, bugs, and even gameplay. While that
might not be special in itself, what makes The Stanley Parable stand out is how it goes about
commenting on these things. By having the player control Stanley and have all their actions
chronicled by the narrator, the game has created these three distinct entities: The player, Stanley
and the narrator. The relationship between these three is the primary way the game is able to
explore certain themes such as player agency, and how much choice matters. According to Astrid
Ensslin, As players we are made to read [the game] as an allegory of illusory agency built into
games to give players the illusion of choice, power and control. In fact, we as players are all
Stanley because again and again we willingly or even enthusiastically subject ourselves to the
constraints set by the games we play (Ensslin 67). The many different endings contained within The
Stanley Parable interacts with these relationships in varying

Persuasive Essay on Breast Implants
Breast Implants Breast implants seem to be a quick easy fix for someone who may think that they

women, especially the media, how would they ever be able to view their body as sufficient or even
adequate without any alteration? Would it be possible for breastimplants to really solve the issue of
having a negative body image? After a womangets breast implants, where would the unnatural

Getting breast implants helps those women that are struggling with self confidence. It helps them
feel of worth and see themselves in a positive light. Having a positive body image plays such a
large role in one s life. Having a negative body image with no self confidence can cause many other
issues such as depression, anxiety, and other similar disorders. If you are self conscious about your
chest, then getting implants might help. A study done by Lippincott measured the efficacy of
breast augmentations. This study showed that the women who underwent this procedure came out
with a very new found positive body image along with decreased self consciousness, heightened self
confidence, and just an overall better feeling about themselves (Lippincott 502). Getting breast
augmentation may help increase self image in women who struggle with low self esteem, as found
from this study.
There is an increase in the amount of women getting breast implants today, and the reason the
numbers are growing may be because the media and others have influenced women to feel this
way. They may guide women to think that their bodies are inadequate without the perfect breast
size, but regardless of outside influences some women need a boost in self confidence. Breast
implants can help these women to feel great about themselves and can help them to live a happier
and fuller life. Women that experience breast cancer often have to get parts of their breasts or even

How Did The Pilgrims Help African Americans
The Pilgrims were a group of people who traveled from England. During their trip, they
encountered many adversities and misfortunes. Thankfully, they landed safely. The first few days
were tough for them. Imagine going to an unfamiliar place knowing that once you leave your
homeland there will be nothing on the other side. These people felt that and were very scared.
The Pilgrims suffered a lot in the first months. People were sick and helpless. The people were
dying. Their only solution was to seek help. The Pilgrims took advantage of the help the Native
Americans wanted to offer. The Native Americans were really smart people. They had a lot of
knowledge about the land. This was their land, and they wanted to teach the Pilgrims how to

Abstract: Gesture Vocalizer is a large scale multi microcontroller based system being designed to
facilitate the Communication among the dumb, deaf and blind communities and their
communication with the normal people. This system can be dynamically reconfigured to work as a
smart device . In this paper, microcontroller and sensors based gesture vocalizer is presented.
Gesture vocalizer discussed is basically a data glove and a microcontroller based system. Data
glove can detect almost all the movements of a hand and microcontroller based system converts
some specified movements into human recognizable voice. The data glove is equipped with two

There is a technical issue at this stage of the project that is if we convert the analog output of the
accelerometer, which ranges from 1.5 volts to 3.5 volts to a digital 8 bit output the systems
become very sensitive. Reason is division of 2 volts range into 256 (28 = 256) steps is much
more sensitive than converting 5 volts range into 256 steps. Now the question arises, why do we
need a less sensitive system, the answer if a more sensitive system is used then there is a huge
change in the digital output with the very little tilt of the hand, which is difficult to be handled.
[pic]
Fig. 3: Amplification and Attenuation Circuitry
Solution to this problem is to increase the range of the output of the accelerometer by using an
additional circuitry. This additional circuitry increases the range of the accelerometer from 2 volts
range to 5volts range. The circuitry shown in Fig.3 is used for theamplification and attenuation
purposes. Amplification means amplification of upper range i.e. 3.5 volts to the 5 volts, and the
attenuation means the attenuation of lower range i.e. 1.5 volts to 0 volts.
3.2 Tilt Detection
The basic function of this module is to detect the tilting of the hand and sending some binary data
against meaningful gestures, to the bend detection module. The output, which is obtained from the
accelerometers after amplification, is an analog output. To deal with this analog output, and to
make it useful for the further use, it is required to

U.s. Foreign Policy During The Cold War
Introduction
I believe that it must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting
attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures. This declaration, made by
former President Harry S. Truman on March 12, 1947, is part of the Truman Doctrine, and was the
basis for U.S. involvement in Western Europe throughout the Cold War
. Although the North
Atlantic Treaty, and the resulting North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), was established
during the Cold War to keep the Russians out, the Americans in, and the Germans down, NATO
has persisted since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990. This essay will seek to examine the
U.S. decision to create and participate in NATO. It will begin by providing a history of NATO
and the U.S. decision to participate in NATO before considering how this decision is both an
instance of continuity and change in U.S. foreign policy since former President George
Washington s Farewell Address. The essay will conclude by considering the legacy of this
decision and its impact on U.S. foreign policy. While this essay will consider the period of time
leading up to the formation of NATO and will briefly touch on the present day, greatest
consideration will be paid to the time period immediately preceding and following the formation of
NATO in 1949.
Formation of NATO
Following the end of World War II, the United Statesbecame increasingly concerned with the
perceived threat of Soviet aggression in

A Better Understanding Of Diabetes And How Kids Are...
During the week that we spend at camp I hope that I will have a better understanding of Diabetes
and how kids are dealing and coping with it. Sometimes we forget that when an illness happens
in adults it is totally different on how it affects children so sometimes kids get ignored more often.
So I hope this week will give me a better insight into what it is like for a child with diabetes day to
day. My fear going into this week is that I won t be able to tell when a kid is having a low blood
sugaror a high one. I know what signs to look out for but I don t have a lot of experience with this
in kids. Kids are different on they present than adults so the fear is not recognizing it fast enough
to get help for the child. What I think that I will contribute to the camp team is that I will be able
to help with recognizing signs more quickly of hypo and hyperglycemiaeven though I still need
some work. I think this will be beneficial because there may be members of the team that are less
experienced so having someone that has at least seen this once will help. The previous
experience that I have had with medically fragile children is going to CCK for a weekend during
diabetes weekend and seeing a glimpse of children with this disease. I got to interact with the kids
and play with them as if they had nothing wrong with them. The kids that were there were
amazing to see on how they were coping with the disease versus their parents. Also what else was
neat to see is how

  • 2. Greek Theatre Research Paper Theater has been around since the time of the Ancient Greek. It has been a form of social expression and ideas for years. Theater is sometimes a dramatization of events or ideas to help better connect the viewers with the situation at hand. I think dramas have become so important to society due to the fact that is can be molded into many different types forms of expression. A drama can take you into a fictional land where anything is possible. It brings people thoughts out from just imagination to a visual performance. The need to see stories acted out is something that bring imagination to life. No longer is it purely thought. You can see and share the idea with a large crowd. Theater is something that is very visual and can be used to teach and pass down the skills of a certain society such as, hunting, farming, family values, etc. Theater entertaining for both the actor and the viewers. It can even pass on knowledge of current events such as politics. The general public is more likely to to attend a performance about politics where there is music, masks, and other fun entities. No only is the public viewing a play, they are learning about the different political events as well. There are many dramas that depict different events. As societies change so does the dramas that come from them. Native people have a rich history in their dramas. They depict hunts, spiritual rituals, and worshipping. Asian dramas on the other hand are more related to family and country values. They uses props, costumes, and songs in most of their dramas. • 3. The Heroic Women Of Othello Olivia Seeney Dr. Michael Elam ENGL 211 Brit Lit: Middle Age 18th Century 5 December, 2015 The Heroic Women of Othello A hero is a man or woman distinguished by the performance of courageous or noble actions (Oxford English Dictionary). In a male dominated society, such as the one displayed in the play Othello, many of the heroic attributes of the female characters are overlooked, and they are labeled as either weak or insignificant. However, some of the female roles within this play are more important and heroic than their male counterparts. The particularly important women in Othello are the characters Desdemona and Emilia. They are unlike each other in many ways, yet both are equally strong in their own ways. While Desdemona remains silent and faithful in the face of adversity, Emilia is outspoken and independent. While the male characters in this play use their actions to express their dominance, the females use their wit and words to show their strength against the men that try to oppress them. This play seeks to show the women as they are: strong, intelligent, and important although they are mistreated by their male counterparts. Both women attribute heroic attributes to the plot of the play and continue to influence their society even after death. The women of Othello showed themselves to be the true protagonists of the play through their unending loyalty, bravery in the face of opposition, and distinct personalities that complimented one another in order to ... • 5. Amy Lowell s Patterns Amy Lowell defines the hopeful liberty of women in the 20th century through a central theme in the poem Patterns . The woman s dreams of eluding from the boundaries that society has placed on her fritters away when she learns of her lover s untimely death. She restricts herself from feeling to make it seem as if there is not softness anywhere about her. Due to being constricted by whalebone and brocade, the speaker feels like she is forced to live up to the rules that society enforces upon her. The numerous images that the speaker uses in this poem like the fluid motions of the flowers and water drops, the dressand her daydreams of her lover all play an important part in developing the theme of Freedom. At the beginning of Patterns , the speaker illustrates daffodils dancing freely in the wind. This use of imagery is a tool to appeal to the audiences sense of sight, these flowers are given movement, and they are described as, blowing, and Fluttering in the breeze, This description produces a sense of flexibility. The womanhas a desire to be like the flowers, self confident and carefree. The second stanza of the poem begins with the woman describing the water in the marble fountain. The plashing of water drops demonstrates liquid in motion. She notices such little details in a fountain which shows how much the woman aspires to be free and able to move about as she wishes. The buoyant movement of the flowers and the water represents a way of life that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Rev. Arthur Dimmesdale and Hester’s Quest for Identity in... Dimmesdale and Hester s Quest for Identity in The Scarlet Letter While allegory is an explicit and tempting reading of Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, I see in this novel also the potential of a psychological reading, interpreting it as a search for one s own self. Both Arthur Dimmesdale and Hester Prynne goes through this process and finally succeeded in finding the duality of one s personality, and the impossibility of complementing the split between individual and community identity. However, they were compelled to take different paths on this journey, and they react quite differently when they finally arrive at the conclusion of this search. Dimmesdale and Hester start out from the same point: their adultery. This sin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Indeed, Dimmesdale longs to speak out that secret, and lighten the burden on him. Why, then, does he not? Dimmesdale, in his own words, answers thus: Guilty as they may be, retaining, nevertheless, a zeal for God s glory and man s welfare, they shrink from displaying themselves black and filthy in the view of men; because, thenceforward, no good can be achieved by them; no evil of the past be redeemed by better service. So, to their own unutterable torment, they go about among their fellow creatures, looking pure as new fallen snow; while their hearts are all speckled and spotted with iniquity of which they cannot rid themselves. (132) In other words, the fear of social rejection prevents him from speaking the truth. This fear is not just simple cowardice, but is strengthened by his social stance, his identity. He builds his own identity with relation to the society, because he cannot turn to himself. He sees himself as being filthy, wretched, and sinful. He needs to turn to the community for acceptance. He establishes himself as the pillar of his community. The loss of social acceptance, or, moreover, the abhorrence and rejection of his fellow citizens, then, would mean more than a cruel reminder of his crime, but the collapse of his whole identity. With this strong dependence on the society, Dimmesdale becomes a social man , instead of an individual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their history leading up to Operation Condor involves three men that led the country to a government based on military dictatorships. After Jose Francia and Carlos Lopez, two of the first leaders of Paraguay after winning independence from Spain, Francisco Lopez is in power in 1862 (Resnick). Lopez was interested in not being a country of isolation and forced everyone to be part of the military unless one was a priest or could pay the price to not be in the military. While he signs a treaty with Uruguay a war is about to begin over who is in power in Uruguay. Lopez runs into trouble with bringing Paraguay into the War of the Triple Alliance. Paraguay falls on the wrong side having to fight against Brazil, Argentina, and the Colorado Party of Uruguay (Resnick). Paraguayans are forced with two options that both end in death: not fight and be executed by Lopez or go to war and be killed by Brazilians, Argentinians, or Uruguayans. Paraguay eventually has to even send their children to fight due to the loss of many people. After Paraguay loses the war, Brazil takes the country over. The next known leader that Paraguay has after Brazil leaves is Alfredo Stroessner. This man starts the process of Operation Condor in 1975 (Resnick). Stroessner becomes leader of Paraguay in 1954 due to his planned military coup taking over the nation. He was the Commander in Chief of the military in Paraguay controlling all parts of the military. Stroessner put conditions in place like Argentina with additions including secret police, censorship, prison camps, torture, no freedom of speech, banning unions, curfew, dissolving Congress, and suspending the Constitution. • 8. Pilgrim s Host No one likes to be the butt of a joke, Pilgrim Chaucer included. In the Prologue to Sir Thopas, the Host, Harry Bailey, a crude, hulking man, taunts Pilgrim Chaucer by making fun of his quiet manners and delicate appearance. Lacking a physical advantage over the Host, Pilgrim Chaucer wisely chooses to get back at him by using his wits. Rather than getting upset over Harry s slurs, the Pilgrim takes his revenge in a more subtle way by telling a tale guaranteed to irritate his Host: a lilting, ridiculous piece of fluff about a hopelessly effeminate knight called Sir Thopas. Through the use of camp language and phallic symbols, Geoffrey Chaucer, in his poem the Tale of Sir Thopas, creates a mocking counterpoint to his Host, and exposes Harry s... • 9. The Nazis And The Nazi Past The Nazis left a lasting legacy that is still felt around the world today. The Nazi past weighs most heavily on Germany and its citizens who still grapple today with what the Nazis mean to their identity. This struggle was much different in the years immediately following World War II and the subsequent creation of divided Germany than today. In the German Democratic Republic (East Germany), the Nazi past was completely ignored. Instead focused on the West as the enemy. In the Federal Republic of Germany the government also attempted to ignore the Nazi past, with the government focusing more on building a democracy rather than emphasizing the brutal past. However, in a free society issues of identity are much harder to contain . The Nazi past began to come up despite these concerted efforts to bury it, yet even when questions about the past began to be raised, people in the 1960s were nearly ignorant about the real atrocities that the Nazis had committed . From 1963 1965, State Attorney Richard Bauer indicted 22 Nazi officials who had worked at the Auschwitz Birkenau concentration camp . These trials attempted not only to educate average Germans about what had truly happened during World War II, but also to eliminate the idea that everyone who had committed these crimes were abnormal monsters, the concept that allowed the German population of the post war era to distance themselves from this evil. Thesis Statement For Supernovas Essay Supernovas Ebaad Usmani P1 Thesis Statement: Supernovas are big explosions of light that occur when a star has a lot of fuel inside it which causes the star to explode. Supernovas are when stars die, they turn into brilliant points of light and explode. Supernovas are considered the largest explosion to take place in space, and in galaxies, they usually appear in other galaxies, but it s really hard to find one in our own galaxybecause there is always dust that blocks our way, so it can be tough to find a supernova. There are 2 ways a supernova can occur. Most of the elements are the core of stars, these elements form to create new stars, and small planets in the solar system and in many other solar systems. This stays in his conscience because of the social division of people in Dubai. Next, Saunders notes, Somewhere in India is a guy who d kill to do some stair washing in Dubai. Saunders feels bad for people that have hard jobs but he knows people in Dubai are making more money there than in their own country. This dwells on his conscience because he knows this man is fortunate to be working although it is not the best job. Finally, Saunders adds, I can go home and write about it, making more for writing about it than he ll make in many, many years of doing it. The Transformation of Gilgamesh in the Epic of Gilgamesh The Transformation of Gilgamesh in the Epic of Gilgamesh In The Epic of Gilgamesh by we see significant transitions in the hero s character as the story is developed. In this narrative poem, we get a glimpse of who he is and what his purposes and goals are. We see Gilgamesh act in many different ways. As an overbearing ruler resented by his people, a courageous and strong fighter, a deflated, depressed man, and finally as a man who seems content with what he s accomplished. Through all of these transitions, we see Gilgamesh s attitude toward life change. The goals he has for his own life alter dramatically, and it is in these goals that we see Gilgamesh s transition from being a shallow, ruthless ruler to being an introspective, content man. The epic begins with the men of Uruk describing Gilgamesh as an overly aggressive ruler. Gilgamesh leaves no son to his father; day and night his outrageousness continues unrestrained; And he is the shepherd of Uruk, the enclosure; He is their shepherd, and yet he oppresses them. Strong, handsome, and wise. . . Gilgamesh leaves no virgin to her lover. (p.18, Line 23 27) The citizens respect him, but they resent his sexual and physical aggression, so they plead to the gods to alleviate some of their burden. • 26. The On The Other Hand, Parole, By De Saussure On the other hand, parole refers to the use of the langue the action in and of itself. It occurs in the phenomenon of language as a sequence of speech. Parole, which includes both written and spoken languages utilized in everyday life, is extremely diverse and varied dependent upon the number of people attempt to use a common language. In addition, de Saussure noted the constant change that parole undergoes as social groups, and age of users manipulate the language over time. De Saussure s interpretation of the underlying basis of language also included a composition of signs as opposed to sentences. Signs consist of two parts: a notion and a sound/written pattern. Without a sound, the notion is incommunicable. Similarly, without a notion, sound patterns are just noise. Without a comprehensive understanding of langue, parole is a meaningless collection of sounds or symbols grouped together at random. By understanding the relationship between the two parts of a sign, langue and parole create meaning. Therefore, de Saussure spoke heavily on the importance of understanding the langue of a language, especially a foreign one, than to grow the vocabulary of parole. By approaching a nonnative language as such, the speaker increases his or her ability to make sense equal to that of a native speaker. Language acts as a link that allows thought to be expressed through sound. As thoughts become more coherent, thus leading to the creation of sounds in words and phrases, language ... By the attempt to eliminate the price effect from an index fund, the fundamental index managers change the set up of the index in such a way that it automatically changes the basic characteristics of the index. As shown in exhibit 10 of the Research Affiliate case, fundamental indices usually not only deal with a higher turnover ratio but also with a higher net expense ratio, for implementing the fundamental strategy in reality seems to go hand in hand with higher costs. Looking at commonly used multiples in exhibit 11, we see no surprises. While the P/E ratio for the RAFI index is only slightly smaller compared to the Russell 1000 index, the Price to Book/Cash Flow/Sales ratio is fundamentally lower in all categories for the RAFI index. More interesting is the fact that the RAFI index is composed of companies with an on average lower market capitalization as well as a higher leverage ratio, which might be a hint that the RAFI is also taking on more risk to produce the excess returns. Even though Research Affiliates uses several methods to eliminate a bias towards a specific sector/type of company, research shows that fundamental indices are clearly more exposed to value and small stocks, which is further illustrated in exhibits 12 14. If students were shouting and protesting in classrooms, the school would be able to step in because it causes other students to be distracted from their schoolwork. (CALAGNA) Has freedom of speech changed since then? Some schools nowadays punish kids for online social media comments. (WHEELER) For example, if a student posts something on Facebook, and another kid comments on that status with a rude remark, the kid who posted it could take that to the principal s office and the kid who commented on it could get in trouble. Some could say it was cyber bullying, some could say it was just a witty/rude remark, not meant to be taken seriously. Is this a violation of free speech/expression? Another reason school authority figures have a lot of power over whether or not a student gets in trouble for what they say, posts, or wears, is that the school can discipline a student just because they personally or morally did not like the comment/post. Most of the time, the kids that get in trouble for something they post are in their own home, on their own laptop, during their free time outside of school. So why does the school have so much power over these situations the majority of the time? The digital age, with its wonderful capacity to democratize speech, is so important to students rights, but also carries new and interesting threats to students rights, Tinker says. • 36. Benefits And Benefits Of Therapeutic Privilege Aims and objectives In medicine, because of the principles of self determination, the patient should be given all the relevant information in order to allow them to give fully informed consent. However, when doctors exercise the therapeutic privilege, they apply their professional opinion to assess when information should be withheld. When a concept as fundamental as consent is undermined extensive research is necessary. Hence, why I want to investigate doctors justifications and patients reactions to therapeutic privilege. Lawrie argues, even those most dedicated to patient autonomy will allow for the use of therapeutic privilege. Therapeutic privilege occurs when information relating to treatment and the associated risks is withheld because doctors believe disclosure will have a detrimental effect, to the extent that recovery may be affected. Therapeutic privilege is judicially confirmed in Sidaway, and recognised in subsequent cases such as Chester. Sidaway confirms that doctors must justify why they are choosing not to fully disclose to the patient. The research purpose is to assess the use of therapeutic privilege. Therefore my research has the following two objectives: To evaluate what justifications doctors have for using therapeutic privilege in practice. To explore the opinions of previous patients in relation to not being allowed to give fully informed consent and what effects they feel this may have. His eldest sister will be done with her degree in modern dance this semester. Looking at myself, I am not that far along. I attempted to navigate around college because it was seen as too expensive. The mountain of debt for going to a private Christian collegeis to grate to pay off. Most people are not made out of money. The money may not be the case because an alternative does exist, it just is not as glorious. A person can obtain an associate s degree at a community college for considerably less. Which is the choice I have made. I remember watching part of my brothers Dave Ramsey financial piece university video. It stated that most high schoolteens have the expectation of making mountains of cash. Most expected after college, they would make around one hundred thousand dollars or more. That figure is much lower, an entry level position with a college degree is between thirty and thirty five thousand. If you survive the odds of finishing school, there is still the mammoth task of finding a job. The majority of student who graduate do not have any not enough experience to enter most jobs. • 38. Consequences Of Deception In Romeo And Juliet Never attempt to win by force what can be won by deception. ― NiccolГІ Machiavelli. The term deception takes a part in betraying another for one s self interest. It was a key element within Shakespeare s work. Romeo and Juliet is one of the prime examples of this topic. They showed deception very clearly by hiding their actions and betraying their families, leading to their tragic ending. However, it was not the only piece Shakespeare wrote that showed the multiple consequences caused by an act of betrayal. The power of deception and the consequences that follow is a staple in literature, and no one shows this idea more clearly than Shakespeare. Oh! What A Tangled Web We Weave When First We Practice To Deceive Sir Walter Scott. Shakespeare is one of the most celebrated authors in history, weaving deception throughout his writings. As he wrote about love, deception was seen over and over within his pieces. An example of Shakespeare s work is from Sonnet 138, O, love s best habit is in seeming trust. This sonnet was based around a man and his mistress. The man knows that she lies about being faithful, but he also is aware that they do it in order to protect each other and their relationship. Later in Sonnet 157, the audience sees the outcome of the deception in Sonnet 138, as they are told that the man and his mistress are no longer. In general, feminism is another way in which to view things, another lens in which to see the world. It is another platform for people to express themselves as whole individuals and become a voice for others that may otherwise remain unheard. • 48. Analysis Of The Stanley The Stanley Parable The Stanley Parable (2013) was a game released to widespread acclaim about a man named Stanley, whose coworkers mysteriously disappear from the office and whose actions and choices are subsequently voiced by a narrator. While at first the game might seem simple and ordinary, the longer spent in the gamethe more complex the narrativeis revealed to be. The game satirizes a lot of conventions and narrative tropes used throughout the games industry, as well as commenting on other facets tied heavily to the games medium, like hacks, bugs, and even gameplay. While that might not be special in itself, what makes The Stanley Parable stand out is how it goes about commenting on these things. By having the player control Stanley and have all their actions chronicled by the narrator, the game has created these three distinct entities: The player, Stanley and the narrator. The relationship between these three is the primary way the game is able to explore certain themes such as player agency, and how much choice matters. According to Astrid Ensslin, As players we are made to read [the game] as an allegory of illusory agency built into games to give players the illusion of choice, power and control. Reason is division of 2 volts range into 256 (28 = 256) steps is much more sensitive than converting 5 volts range into 256 steps. Now the question arises, why do we need a less sensitive system, the answer if a more sensitive system is used then there is a huge change in the digital output with the very little tilt of the hand, which is difficult to be handled. [pic] Fig. 3: Amplification and Attenuation Circuitry Solution to this problem is to increase the range of the output of the accelerometer by using an additional circuitry.
