The Play Distracted By Lisa Loomer Essay
The play Distracted by Lisa Loomer talks about a 9 year old boy who has trouble learning in school.
He screams at his parents and the teacher suspects the boy may have ADHD. The mom received some
advice from her friends and the psychiatrist suggests Ritalin. The father, on the other hand, disagrees.
There is a family conflict between the mom and dad. Then, in the other speaker series I attended was
Immigrant nation. It is a documentary film directed by Esau Melendaz. Its primary focus was about an
undocumented immigrant who was deported back to her country. She refused to go back and was
forced to stay in an asylum or one year. As a result, she began the immigration reform movement.
People of whom were from different cultures supported her. The third Speaker series, I attended, was

The Differences between Command Economies and Free Market...
The Differences between Command Economies and Free Market Economies
The prime difference between command economies and free market economies is the method used to
answer the three central questions of what, for whom, and how? Each of these questions relates to
production.
In a free market economy, the answers to these questions are decided by the consumer and overseen
by a government that practices a laissez faire economic policy. Production is decided on a supply and
demand basis resulting in a capitalist society. This happens due to the dispersion of wealth throughout
an economy, the richest dictating which products should be produced due to their own demands, and
the poorest having little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of economy works in the private sector of business ie. Individual firms.
A command economy is an entirely different system in which a central government decides how to
answer the three central economic questions. The government would decide what is to be produced,
how it is to be priced etc. resulting in a far more communist state. This obviously gives the
government a far more autocratic role in their economic policy in contrast to the free market economy.
Products are designed with the incentive to meet consumer needs rather than to meet the wants of the
richest. This way is far more practical towards ensureing the production of necessary goods. This type
of economy works under the public sector everything is funded and controlled by the central
government.
Discuss Whether there are Lessons to be Learned Between the Two Systems
No economic system will ever work flawlessly so it is undoubtable that these two systems would be
able to adapt to become more practical. For one example, in the free market economy, there have often
been problems with failure to produce medicines that are seen bt medical companies to be unprofitable
but that are ncessary to public health. At this point, it would be wise to adopt a more command
economy in which it can be assessed which medicines are needed and

Forced Convection Heat Transfer
Forced Convection Heat Transfer
I. Introduction
This laboratory deals with forced convection, forced convection can be considered as a staple of heat
transfer. That is to say that forced convection can be found in almost any heat transfer problem, and
thus understanding its importance and how it affects a given problem is one of the more important
learning objectives/outcomes of heat transfer.
When dealing with forced convection the most important section, after understanding how convection
works, is the convection heat transfer coefficient. The heat transfer coefficient for convection is
denoted by (h) and is measured in w/m^2*K, this lab delves into the application of convection heat
transfer and how it correlates to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Leadership Skills For A Leader
In order to become a true leader, it is of the utmost importance that we adhere to a set of guidelines put
into effect by the leaders of yesterday and bring about positive changes for others. Leadership skills do
not come easy to everyone and one must have the right potential to be able to prove oneself worthy of
the title. The following will highlight not only the footmarks that one can follow to acquire leadership
skills, like the great leaders of our time, but also provide an insightful look into one s opinion on what
it takes to be a great leader.

As such, natural leadership helps other to unlock their potential providing solutions and/or alternatives
creating opportunities. In essences, they help distinguish decisions from unnecessary issues. Thereby
allowing innovators, along with good work ethics, to create an atmosphere of good managerial
leadership; not everyone is up to the challenge of a successful leadership role. They do this by rousing
others and working with them to build an imparted vision of possible outcomes, furthermore,
guaranteeing a superior gathering, association, or group proving sound leadership qualities. Pioneers
connect with supporters in such a direction, as to point out that numerous adherents get to become
pioneers in their own particular right. The fluctuated requests of an inexorably complex world
frequently oblige those administrations to be imparted by a significant number of the individuals from
a gathering in courses suitable for distinctive circumstances.
A typical meaning of leadership expresses that it is the methodology through which pioneers impact
the mentality, practices and estimations of others (Hagen et al, 1998). Likewise with numerous other
delicate issues, the definition is to a degree unclear in that it doesn t address the topic of how pioneers
really lead the procedure of impacting.

Essay On The Effects Of Residential Schools
THE AFFECTS OF RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS: A LIST By: Sanchia Nawar Residential schools
were religious schools ran by the government and churches which were made to assimilate Aboriginal
children into European culture. Residential schools messed up people s lives and their communities,
causing long term problems among Aboriginal people. In total, an estimated 150,000 children attended
residential schools. From the 1890s until the 1950s, the government tried to constantly make
residential schools the churches problems. The food was prepared badly and there were little amounts
of it. Clothing was all basically the same ill fitting, shabby and, in the case of winter clothing, not
enough protection for the season. The school program, both academic and vocational, was deficient.

with them the assumption that their own civilization was the pinnacle of human achievement. They
interpreted the socio cultural differences between themselves and the Aboriginal peoples as proof that
Canada s first inhabitants were ignorant, savage, and like children in need of guidance. In 1907,
government medical inspector P.H. Bryce reported that 24 percent of previously healthy Aboriginal
children across Canada were dying in residential schools. Bryce reported that anywhere from 47
percent (on the Peigan Reserve in Alberta) to 75 percent (from File Hills Boarding School in
Saskatchewan) of students discharged from residential schools died shortly after returning

Medicine And Medicine In The Elizabethan Era
Medicine and Shakespeare The power of community to create health is far greater than any physician,
clinic, or hospital. (Mark Hyman). In the Elizabethan Era, most of society was poverty stricken, which
drove communities to improvise to help the sick as real doctors and physicians were too expensive.
Barbers and wise women rose to the occasion of helping the sick, although they did not have much
medical knowledge. Medical knowledge was also lacked in professional doctors and physicians as
their knowledge revolved around their religion, leaving the sick in the mercy of misconceptions.
During the 16th century, society suffered from lack of medical knowledge and ignorance to the benefit
of sanitation, resulting in misconceptions of faulty doctors that brought expansion of diseases and
death. Society was deprived of the proper sanitation that would of helped prevent most diseases that
killed many. The daily routines of commoners contributed to the extension of diseases as those
routines were not very hygienic. For example, people emptied their bodily waste into cesspits, which
served as a breeding grounds for fatal diseases (Catcher); people rarely changed their clothes as they
usually only had an outfit for each season; and peasants had to use dried leaves as toilet paper. During
their menstrual cycle, women had to use tampons and pads made up of old rags and cloths wrapped
around naturally absorbent moss (Catcher), which can lead to infections in the genitals as the

Comparing A Spider Holds A Silver Ball, And Design By...
Approximately 30.5% of people in the United States are arachnophobic (7 Arachnophobia Statistics).
With that, most people dislike spiders from a young age for their eerie, hairy, and nightmarish bodies.
Although, there is another side, spiders also create webs to catch their prey, but these death
contraptions are very fragile and it takes a very meticulous and careful spider to correctly design one.
These different beliefs are each shown in the two poems A Spider Holds a Silver Ball by Emily
Dickinson, and Design by Robert Frost. Dickinson shows a majestic web, made by an equally majestic
spider, whereas Frost portrays an evil spider, using his web only to kill and consume his prey. The use
of imagery and tone in A Spider Holds a Silver Ball by Emily Dickinson, and Design by Robert Frost
clearly shows the contrasting portrayal of spiders by each spider.
The imagery used by Frost and Dickinson is so different that it shows the readers a different
characterization of spiders from each poem. Dickinson paints an image of a danseur spider dancing
softly (li. 3), and plié[ ing] from Nought to Nought (li. 5), she depicts a glorious spider that makes his
webs very gracefully. The idea that the spider is a danseur and gracefully constructs his web has the
reader, instead of picturing a hairy, fat, and ugly spider, one that looks like a real human, a dancer.
With the three words Continents of Light (li. 10), Dickinson is taking readers away from the web to
look at it from

Her first feat was becoming a female pilot, which at the time was very difficult. She became the 16th
woman in the world to receive a pilot s license in 1923 and the first woman to ever receive a pilot s
license from the National Aeronautic Association of the USA (Wels 42). In 1928, Amelia became the
vice president of the National Airways, Inc. ( Earhart, Amelia ). She also became the first woman vice
president of the National Aeronautic Association, which authorized the official records and races
(Cochrane and Ramirez). Having been a licensed pilot for a mere 5 years, this is quite impressive. The
following year, she took place in an airplane race dubbed the Powder Puff Derby. Amelia Earhart
came in 3rd during this race. This race was dangerous, and open for women only. Many people died,
but those who didn t later became some of the female pilots to make up the Ninety Nines. Amelia
became the head of this all female aviatrix club ( Earhart Amelia 1897 1937? ). Amelia Earhart was
also the second person after Charles Lindbergh, and the first woman, to fly solo across the Atlantic in
1932, which is perhaps her most well known accomplishment ( Earhart Amelia 1897 1937? ). Though
this wasn t the first time that she had crossed the Atlantic Ocean. The first time was in 1928, but she
was merely only a log keeper on that flight (Yount). Amelia Earhart also had many lesser known feats.
In 1935, she was the first pilot to fly solo, nonstop from Mexico City to Newark, NJ as well as fly to

Similarities Between Dadaism And Internet Art
Art, quite simply, is a social force. It reflects on the feelings of people in society, whether individually
or as a whole. Usually art that vents the feelings of the artist occur around times or events that evoke
emotions powerful enough to provide a muse for artwork. Some art styles, such as Dadaism and
Internet Art, can directly tie their absurdist means to what was happening in that time. But do the time
periods in which those art styles were popular relate to the meaning behind the art? The similarities
between Dadaism and Internet/Postinternet art show the state of disarray and lack of hope for the
future that millennials have revived.
Dadaism
Dadaism is an art style defined as a form of artistic anarchy born out of disgust for the social, political,
and cultural values of the time. (Artyfactory). Pieces made in this style went against almost all of the
previously written rules of art, which earned it the title of anti art . Dada was presented in many ways,
the most well known being collages made on paper [Fig 1]. Another popular presentation was
photography, which was a relatively new concept at the time. These photographs turned ordinary
things into art by showcasing the abstractness of ordinary things as seen through a lens. One of the
most well known examples of Dada photography is Fountaine by Marcel Duchamp [Fig. 2].
Technology was also a new concept that Dada creating artists used to their advantage. Film and radio
broadcasting were used as mediums, one

How Did The Normans Influence Anglo Saxon Culture
Before the English culture came to play, it first had to develop during the times of the Anglo Saxons.
Numerous events happened during that time from invasions, organizations and their structures of life.
The Normans, who were pagan barbarians, came to Europe during the 8th century and contributed to
the development of English culture with their lifestyle culture and developing their government. The
Normans were slowly adapting to the lifestyle in Europe, obtaining influences from the Anglo Saxons.
The Normans were established Christians and had a god fearing mentality. To celebrate their devotion
to christ, they built towering stone churches and cathedrals. There was only one church in Western
Europe and the Pope in Rome was the head of the Roman Catholic Church. The people were told how
to behave and were expected to attend on Sundays. Aside from religion the Normans also had their
ways of speaking and living. They liked to play with their words and told riddles that way. They wrote

Interracial Relationships Essay
Interracial Relationships For centuries human beings have been on a quest for love. As time has
passed, this search has lead to mixing of races and resulted in interracial relationships, both long term
couples and casual dating. An interracial relationship is defined by the Webster dictionary as
intimacies between two people of different races. I had no idea when I immigrated to the U.S in 1996,
I would fall in love with a black girl, said Dirk Schwartz. Immigration has boosted the number of

marrying, which is now on the rises throughout the United States, was banned by 19 states. Back then
interracial couples like * Lenny Wilson and *Amy Lynn, would be shunned, jailed or killed. In 1967
the Supreme Court ruled in the case Loving v. Virginia that laws against interracial marriages, dating
back to 1661, were unconstitutional. States like South Carolina and Alabama ignored the Supreme
Courts decisions. In 1998, 103 years later, South Carolina finally lifted the ban on interracial
marriages. It would take Alabama two more years to remove its ban. Wilson, a black 25 year old male,
and his 23 year old white girlfriend, Amy, have lived together for the last seven years. The couple has

The Vietnam War began in December in 1956 and ended in April 1975. Initially the war was between
North Vietnam and South Vietnam but they both formed allies. North Vietnam s allies were the Soviet
Union, China, and other communist allies, while South Vietnam s allies were anti communist
countries like the United States. The United States entered the war and sought the help of the South
Vietnamese army (ARVN). Despite the US collaborating with the ARVNs, the ARVNs were
constantly belittled and were not recognized for their contributions. Therefore, because the U.S. failed
to work effectively with the ARVNs, it may have cost the Americans the war. In other words, if the

David Mar in the, Vietnam 1945 The Quest for Power, explained how significant this year was for the
Vietnamese, while the French, Japanese, Chinese, British, and Americans fought for control over
Indochina. The Vietnamese quickly discovered they could publish, organize, and demonstrate in favor
of a national independence, as long as they did not hinder Japanese defense preparations. As a result of
the multiple countries trying to gain control of Vietnam, Vietnam went from a colonial state, a royal
government to a democratic republic. By the end of 1945, these political convolutions finally became
things of the past. For eighty years, the French worked to seemingly transform Vietnam into a Paris
replica, calling it Indochina and taking advantage of all its peoples and resources. Ho Chi Minh
declared himself president on September 2 and announced the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (Marr,
1997). Once Ho Chi Minh proclaimed Vietnam s Declaration of Independence, he called on the allies
to recognize the Vietnamese people s rights to independence and to be a liberated country. However,
not long after Vietnam gained their independence did the United States declare war. Although Vietnam
was able to withstand a thousand years of Chinese ruling, they suffered enormously during the
Vietnam War. However, one has to question who won or lost the Vietnam War. This question has
plagued many Americans and other people. Despite who won or lost the war and whether the Vietnam

COLLAPSE OF THE SOVIET UNION
To understand why unlike the Soviet Union s political system, China s is not near collapse, one must
first understand why and how the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) collapsed, resulting
in the collapse of the Soviet Union itself. After the October Revolution, the CPSU adopted Leninism
as the main party ideology, and moved swiftly to adopt socialist changes. However, as Lenin s health
declined, his main supporters, Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky, began fighting amongst themselves.
Stalin won, forcing Trotsky into exile, and after Lenin s death, began implementing a series of policies
known as Stalinism to solidify his totalitarian rule. Partly influenced by fascism, Stalin promoted the

Leonid Brezhnev, who took power after Khrushchev, attempted to reinstate Stalinism back into the
Soviet Union. His reign created the neo Stalinist period in Russia, albeit with a series of economic
reforms that favored light industries and the production of consumer goods than heavy industry.
Brezhnev also supported weakening animosities with the West in order to improve relations,
attempting to improve the social and economic condition within the Soviet Union. However, due to
health problems, much of the actual implementation was carried out by others within the CPSU
leadership. Being on average older than the general population, the CPSU leadership was mostly
conservative, which hindered the progress. Overall, through trying to combine the conservative and
relatively outdated ideologies of Stalinism with failing economic reforms, Brezhnev was credited with
the Era of Stagnation in the Soviet Union, being unable to deal with both internal and international
affairs. Following Brezhnev was Yuri Andropov, a reformist who, during his short time as the General
Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, pushed for more freedom in media and appointed
several other reformers into key positions in the CPSU. Konstantin Chernenko, who took power
against Andropov s wishes following his demise, attempted to shift back into the Brezhnev era
policies, while also promoting reforms in education and the role of labor unions. However, poor health
prevented him from properly implementing policies, and de facto power remained with reformer
Mikhail Gorbachev. By this point, the constant fighting between reformists and Stalinists, together
with conflicting and ineffective policies, had severely damaged the Soviet economy, as well as
deteriorated international relations, escalating the Cold War, and slowly worsened socioeconomic and

The majority of those who embrace the minimalist concept of living focus on their material assets, and
relegate other aspects of their lives to secondary and tertiary status in the adopted lifestyle. Others
focus on the frugality of one s lifestyle, adorning economical living with minimal living. Some, again,
opt to equate minimalism and environmentalism, with only modest justification.
Minimalism is a composite lifestyle, adopting numerous attributes from other approaches to
interacting with one s world, living life on a budget, and yet incorporating a love of luxury with a
desire for simplicity. This is the way of fine art: remove the clutter around a feature piece, in order to
focus more fully on the pleasure that that specific item exudes.
We, as minimalists, choose to de clutter our surroundings and our mind, in order to appreciate the
simplicity of living without that bric a brac. It is a relatively easy process. However, while we feed our
soul, we ignore physical nourishment as it is impacted by our minimal lifestyle.

Gilded Age During The Gilded Age
1880 1928 The Gilded Age in America ranges from 1880 to 1928 and can be understood simply by
acknowledging that the wealthy dominated the poor in all aspects of life. American history during the
Gilded Age can be further examined particularly in two ways, socially and economically. Establishing
the understanding and connection between protection of the people, the type of government being
practiced, and the concept of efficiency will allow for an educated assessment of this time and will
highlight policies and practices that America should be looking at to succeed as it moves forward. At
this time, there was little to no protection of people that were not wealthy business men such as
Andrew Carnegie and William Graham Sumner who both make cases in favor of social Darwinism.
Business men of this time believed that they were wiser than the poor and that if the workers
diligently tried, they could be rich as well(PS26). This was not a valid way to look at how society was
going because of unsafe working conditions and low wages. Large scale business owners held a tight
rein on workers, which in turn led to events like the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire in 1911 where nearly 150
women were killed because they were trapped in a burning building. These women were unable to
leave their workroom because the business owners had locked them in out of fear that the women may
take too long of a break, or steal a shirt they were working on if they had any freedoms in the
workplace. The

Family Medicine And Family Practice
There are many misunderstandings where people mistakenly think that family medicine and family
practice are the same thing, but they are undoubtedly wrong. According to Brown, family medicine is
the academic discipline, composed of knowledge, skills and attitudes. Family practice is the
application of that knowledge in a system of medical care (Brown, 1979). Dr. Lynn Carmichael also
stated that, an important component in the definition of the family physician is that he has a tenured
relationship in which the doctor and the family members have mutually agreed upon obligations. No
other physician has this unwritten contract with patients of all ages and with the whole family (Brown,
1979). In other words, family practice consists of family medicine, but family medicine does not
consists of family practice. This is what makes family physicians unique from other physicians. They
have their own bond with the patients without having to having to have some kind of written contract.
It gives the patients time to understand and get to know the physician and have an actual conversation.
Whereas for other physicians there is a tendency where the physician is having a one way
conversation where the physician is only talking to the patient and the patient is just listening. Family
physicians are distinctively educated to care for you as a whole person, apart from age or sex. They
diagnose and treat critical and chronic diseases and illnesses and provide patients with monotonous

Analysis Of Alfred Hitchcock s Film Bates Motel
When looking at the Netflix production of their show named Bates Motel, they examine the early life
of the main character Norman Bates. It is a spinoff of Alfred Hitchcock s film Bates Motel from the
1960 s. During this show, we see the first murder of Norman is his father, and as the show goes on
overtime you can see the different phycological problems of Norman develop into Schizophrenia
where he suppresses the murders that he commits in his mind making him dissociated with his crimes
and never showing remorse (Schmalleger, 2012). When doing our reading this week, it discussed that
some violent dissociated killers would return to the crime or show up at the victims grave site, and this
is what made me think of this show to answer this question.

If you are African American sitting with a bunch of Caucasian people, you will get judged. Racism
still hasn t changed from the 1930 s 1940 s. Today is not as bad as when the Holocaust was going on.
Back then, you got killed if you were a Jew. Today if you are mexican, African American, Caucasian,
etc. , you will not be murdered for being that certain race. Back then had it way worse. Especially with
survival. Many Jews had to hide or leave their families to survive. Today, if you want to have a roof
over your head and be able to feed your family, you have to work and survive. The prices of every
product known to man, has rapidly increased. In California, medium prices for houses are $500,000. It
wasn t so expensive back in the 1940 s. Our survival today isn t as extreme as it was back in 1940.
They had to fight for their lives so they wouldn t get killed. We have to fight to have a roof over our

The author Ayn Rand stated the following, the meaning of a man s ego as her own words for the theme

mentally. Readers can concluded that it truly hurts him that these thoughts are considered a crime, to

Classroom Reflection Essay
The classroom was a tall open square filled with around 35 student desks and one large set of desks in
the front of the class. The front desks consisted of smaller desks which included a stand up desk that
held a computer and a smaller but longer desk with a chair. Behind the front desks was as whiteboard
wall that had a projector pointing towards the wall. All of the student s desks were scattered
throughout the class and faced the whiteboard the room has a lot of space, but the number of desks in
the room took up most of the walking space. The first student arrived at 5:52. Afterwards nine others

discussion between the students stopped shortly after Mrs. Keener arrived.
Mrs. Keener walks in at 5:56 and greets me. She then makes her way to the front of the room and logs

I. THE MAIN FACTORS LED TO THE COLLAPSE
When the words spread about the large size of fishery, fleets from all over the world joined the hunt.
Every year, the size of the fleets got bigger and every year, the size of the catch increased. In the late
50s the arrival of large factor ships from other countries hailed the first onslaught to the finely
balanced renewable cod fishery. These factory trawlers came from England, the U.S., the Soviet
Union, East and West Germany, Portugal, Poland, and some Asia nations such as Japan and Korea.

In Newfoundland over 35,000 fishers and plant workers from over 400 coastal communities became
unemployed in 1992 (Collapse of the Atlantic Northwest Cod Fishery). * ECOLOGICAL:
The Atlantic cod fishery collapse left terrible ecological consequences. As mentioned above, the
fishing technology was a major destruction to the ecological system by using deployment and
draggers. The huge nets that were dropped and dragged along the bottom of the ocean destroyed the
underlying eco system in the process. The effect of selective fishing on spawning grounds that is,
selectively over exploiting one species in an ecosystem had disastrous effect on the feeding
relationships in that ecosystem. This contributes to the overall reduction of spawning stock biomass of
the targeted species, but also an increase in the number of invertebrate and vertebrate predators such
as crustacean and fish which will prey on cod eggs, larvae, and younger fish. It is a little wonder that a
species like cod, would eventually run into difficulties struggling to survive when its habitat is being
continuously destroyed and the balance of their food chain had been wiped out. III. CANADIAN

Comparison Of Blackboard Jungle And Rebel Without A Cause
Seeing a drastic shift of teenage culture within a decade is mesmerizing. After watching these two
movies I believe that there is a clear difference in how the teenage culture has shifted within a small
amount of time. The similarities between Blackboard Jungle and Rebel Without a Cause were that in
both movies the teenagers fit the stereotype of acting out of line. The difference is the, type of sound
track, different take on the youth movement. In Blackboard Jungle the sound track portrays a type of
rebellion mentality while in the movie Rebel Without a Cause there is an unknown type of mentality.

In the movie Blackboard Jungle the sound track portrays a type of rebellion mentality while in the
movie Rebel Without a Cause there is an unknown type of mentality. The song that was playing in the
beginning of the movie Blackboard Jungle was called Rock around the Clock by Bill Haley. Because
of the up tempo beat and the lyrics it reminded me of a rebellion type of music. The song talks about
rocking around the clock so I can imagine the teenagers in the movie breaking the teachers records
while causing mad hysteria in the classroom. In the movie Rebel Without a Cause the song was more
an unknown type of mentality. When I heard the song at the beginning of the movie I didn t know
where the song was going to go for instance if the beat was going to increase or slow down. This
correlated in the movie because the main character Jim is used to leaving every time he makes a
mistake. On the other hand, this time he decides to stay and do the right thing. I think this shows that
there is still hope for the youth culture because they are able to realize their own mistakes without
parents. However, there was a belief that teenagers were a separate class they assumed that they were
separate and unequal. It s neat to see that rock n roll played a roll into the growing division. Rock n

Marking Territory Character Analysis
In Marking Territory, the author juxtaposes heated character interactions with private moments in
order to show how both the other Wes and his mother try to appear tough while secretly feeling hurt
and afraid. Prior to Wes s argument with his mother regarding his affairs in the drug business, he had a
heated encounter with his brother Tony on the same matter. Ending in a violence, anger, and
disappointment on the part of Tony, Wes ponders his relationship with Tony: Wes knew that he was
disappointing his brother, which hurt more than the beating that he had just taken. Wes was so
confused. He loved and respected his brother. Tony was the closest thing Wes had to a role model. But

As an OTA, it will be important to be able to describe and demonstrate each of these types of

without placing stress on the joints, which is helpful for clients who have joint problems or issues.

Attending A Traditional Classroom Setting
I have been fortunate enough to attend college in a traditional classroom setting as well as an online
setting; I can say for my academic journey the online setting better suited my learning type. When I
graduated high school I went to a traditional university, I did not do well and ended withdrawing and
failing classes. I attended an online university a few years later and found that it was a lot more
conducive to my learning style. The traditional college setting may be better suited for students that
may need more structure for learning. Sitting in a classroom with a professor telling you exactly what
assignments are, and when they are due is needed for some students. In a traditional college setting the
professor will stand in front of the class and give a lecture, at times this lecture will be far from what
is needed and filled with those professors personal opinions. Then at a time where you will be given
an exam, the material was given is nothing of what the professor lectured on. So in essence, the
student will have to sit and listen to a professor lecture and then do their own reading and research.
When attending an online program, the student is responsible for making the time to read, study, and
complete the necessary work. Myself, I cannot say that I will be able to carve out two to four hours a
couple times a week to listen to a professor speak. My opinions are harsh, but that comes from actual
experiences. Logging on and reading what I need

A Report On Rheumatic Fever Awareness Campaign Of 2016
CAMPAIGN BACKGROUND
Rheumatic Fever Awareness Campaign of 2016 is a programme by New Zealand that continues to
promote awareness against sore throat caused by Group A Streptococcus which complicates to
rheumatic fever. It is known that Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF) is serious yet a preventable illness.
The campaign is dedicated to reduce the incidence among children and aims to create national
consciousness on the importance of early prevention, treatment and the facts about rheumatic fever
that may possibly result to heart damage.
In New Zealand, ARF has been significantly increasing. It is alarming as ARF is considered an evident
indicator of child poverty and ill health (Sharpe, 2012). The cases of ARF doubled from 1.9 per 100
000 to 3.8 per 100 000 from 2005 to 2010 (Lowe, L., Miller, J., Sharpe, N., 2011).
It is vital that the problem with ARF be addressed as its rates have constantly failed to decrease and
thus remain as one of the highest reported third world diseases in a highly developed country such as
New Zealand (Masters, 2009). According to Dr. Coleman, Minister of Health, in his media statement
on ARF last May 1, 2016, he claimed that the campaign aims to decrease the cases of ARF by two
thirds by June 2017. Different intervention techniques were used to pursue the objectives of the
campaign such as school throat swabbing, health education, community exposure to lowly deprived
areas, media advertisements and promotions. Young children susceptible to ARF and

Improving The Lives Of Adult Learners Essay
Using Screencast o matic in UMUC s Undergraduate Writing Program
University of Maryland University College has the mission of improving the lives of adult learners
(UMUC, 2016). In the Undergraduate School, the writing program contributes to this mission by
providing helping students meet their academic and professional goals through writing instruction.
Adult learners lead busy lives. They typically are balancing school with other responsibilities such as
work and family. Therefore, the writing program seeks technology that helps students succeed being
quick and easy to use. It is also beneficial if the technology can be used in mobile platforms, as busy
adult students might be completing school related tasks while on the go. Screencast o matic creates
screen capture videos, or screencasts, and can be beneficial for all students taking courses in UMUC s
writing program. Courses in the writing program incorporate a process of drafting and revision, in
which instructors provide feedback on drafts of written work, and then students are tasked with
revising their work based on that feedback. Course format is either fully online or hybrid. In either
case, students submitting papers and receive feedback online. It is proposed that screencasts created
with Screencast o matic be one method by which all UMUC writing instructors provide feedback on
student drafts.

The War of the Pacific (1879 1883), which began as a result of new taxes on Bolivian nitrate reserves
imposed on the Chilean investors coupled with territorial disputes of the Atacama Desert, is now
known to be one of the most significant events in Bolivian history. The devastating loss which Bolivia
suffered has resulted in a lasting impact in more ways than just one. The War altered Bolivia s

The lack of access to sea would create an increase of transportation costs making it more difficult for
Bolivia to export its raw materials and resources. Furthermore, the land lost to Chile was rich in many
resources, nitrate in particular, that could have helped the economy of Bolivia grow. A study done by
Dr. Richard Sicotte, who researches the economic history of Latin America for the University of
Vermont, showed that the Bolivian government s revenues would have been at least double their
historical level had the Chileans not obtained the nitrate rich land. Taking it a step further, these
government revenues that could have been generated with the exportation and taxation of nitrate,
could have been implemented towards Bolivia s infrastructure, education programs, payments of debt,
and several other programs that create economic and social development in the country. On the other
hand, it can be argued that even with the land that was taken, Bolivia still has a great quantity of
natural resources, yet does not use them to its benefit, giving the country the fame of being a beggar
on a throne of gold. However, as noted earlier, the mistrust in outside forces makes Bolivia hesitant to
expand their trade and the lack of access to sea also makes it more

Discuss the Significance of Father Figures in Frankenstein
Discuss the significance of father figures in Frankenstein
Frankenstein is a story of science gone dreadfully amiss. Shelley offers depth and meaning to
Frankenstein by presenting (sometimes covertly so) insinuations of failed father and son relationships
littered throughout the story. The most obvious relationship in this story is that between Victor
Frankenstein and his monster, however, there are other characters in the story that present themselves
as father figures. In this essay, I will endeavour to discuss not only the significance of the familial
relationship between Victor Frankenstein and his creature, but that of Victor and Alphonso
Frankenstein, Henry Clerval and his father amongst others.
As Allen notes, the most obvious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Compassion and obligation urges Victor to sympathise with the creature and even render him happy
like a father should a son; although even so, he makes no attempt to satisfy the monster s needs
(Claridge, Parent Child Tensions in Frankenstein: The Search for Communion, p.20).
Victor can understand the feelings of compassion or fatherly care that stir within him but he is unable
to sustain those feelings of concern: I compassionated him, and sometimes felt a wish to console him;
but when I looked upon him my feelings were altered to those of horror and hatred (p.121). He
continues to fail his creature, swearing him into exile, then creating another like him before destroying
it (and thus any chance of happiness for the creature), and then hunting him down. Victor is never able
to perceive the monster s tormented psyche leading to his exclamation Let the cursed and hellish
monster drink deep of agony; let him feel the despair that now torments me (p.172). The irony is
Victor s creation already feels this, but Victor s anger and lack of insight causes him to oversee it
(Claridge, Parent Child Tensions in Frankenstein: The Search for Communion, p.20).
There is a slippage of identity between Victor and his creature causing a constant shifting between the

Battle of Bunker Hill
What would it be like to go to Bunker Hill? What would it be like to go to Breed s Hill? Well, there
was a battle called Battle of Bunker Hill that is a famous battle in history. The Battle of Bunker Hill
has many leaders, causes, effects and events that lead to fight.
There were very few causes. Well to begin with, History.com says that Prescott, one of the Patriots
leaders, heard that the British were coming. So Prescott got prepared. Although different sites say
different causes. Ushistory.com states that the British were threatening the Patriots. So of course, the
patriots were determined to win. There were also many men in this battle. According to the text, The
American Revolution, confirms Washington sent 1,000 men to defend for Bunker Hill. He ignored
orders and decided to fight for Breed s Hill, which was closer to the Boston Harbor, 68.
There were main leaders on each side. For example, Encyclopedia Americana, says on the British side
Thomas Gage and General Howe lead the soldiers. They ordered them to fire, get in columns, march
and many more things. Howe was sent with 1,600 men to out number the Patriots. There was also a

Foreign Affairs During The Civil War
Throughout this past semester this class has brought to my attention of what this country is going
through with the current election as well as the fight against Isis, and that is we have been through it
all before. We started from the ending of the Civil War examining how it has changed our country for
the better as well as how the war started a push on domestic affairs within this country. From then to
present time many of the roles of government has been equally overpowering as well as barely caring.
This nation now needs a federal government that is there for the country s benefit, but able to keep out
of the affairs of citizens at home. Maybe its time that the federal government put more of a focus on
the foreign affairs and let state and local government handle smaller situations that waste to much time
in federal court. With the time wasted in federal government in domestic affairs we are losing ground
in our foreign affairs, our military is loosing support and our economy is going down domestically and
internationally. Our history of foreign affairs has only become more of a recent need since WWII. As a
country today we are currently in a domestic battle against having more or less focus on foreign
policy. Honestly the best thing for this country now is to keep focusing on growing our economy by
strengthening our ties with our allies and not worrying to much about our affairs at home, we have the
state and local government to take care of our domestic needs. From

R. A. Lafferty s Nine Hundred Grandmothers
When one thinks about what a typical science fiction story would be about, one would typically
imagine a story that is focused on futuristic places and gadgets with some form of hard science to back
it up. However, that is not always going to be true. Psychology, a soft science, is a major part of the
science fiction genre that can be found in Nine Hundred Grandmothers by R. A. Lafferty, The Byrds
by Michael G. Coney, and Stable Strategies for Middle Management by Eileen Gunn. All three of
these stories provide the reader a look into a character s mind and how might others affect it. In Nine
Hundred Grandmothers by R. A. Lafferty, we follow a character named Ceran and his quest to find the
answer to the creation of life. He quickly becomes obsessed with finding out the answer. The names in
this story, greatly affect the opinion that each character has about themselves. This ultimately leads to

Taking a Look at Validation Models
Schemas are important validation tools which can ensure data is valid and well formed for use. There
are different varieties that can be used to verify a document and ensure conformance to standards.
Some use a tree hierarchy and others just simple constructs. Lee and Chu (2000) note the following in
their paper; DTD, XSD, SOX, Schematron and DSD. Fawcett et al (2012) mention Schematron, DTD,
RELAX NG, and XSD. I will discuss some of these in comparison to DTD and XSD which are follow
ons from this week s Schema discussions.
DTD
This Schema type on uses attributes and elements and follows a hierarchy in structure type. It is very
simplistic and uses few attribute definitions, and does not follow XML type syntax. However, despite
its simplistic nature, it is the most widely used standard according to Lee and Chu (2000).
XSD
The true XML Schema Definition is very different from DTD in that it can be very granular in its
descriptive elements and follows XML syntax rules. This can make it very powerful, in its support of
namespaces and true data types, allowing for better conformity and use in data transformation and
query. Another strength of XML Schema is it inheritance, which can simplify some reuse of attributes
and combining of Schema documents. Its weakness goes hand in hand with its strength as the
complexity it allows for causes confusion by all but the most advanced users according to Fawcett et

Why I Want To Travel Essay
Where do you most want to travel? Why? What is your favorite movie/T.V show? Why? If you could
travel back or forward in time, what year would it be? Why? During the assignment interviewing the
class I chose these three questions because I like when people ask me stuff like this. I like to travel
(even though I haven t traveled much). It s interesting to see why people want to travel to the places
they want to. It also gives you some ideas of places to travel. I picked the movie one because I love
watching movies, so it s pretty neat to see what kind of movies or T.V shows other people like to
watch. The travelin in time one I picked because well it s a way to kind of get to know someone, it
makes them think. It s also neat to see the responses and what years they would like to travel to. It
would be very awesome to be able to travel in time. I was hoping just to find out some some
information. I just wanted to see how people would respond to these questions and ... Show more

That they re funny, cute or they describe things that happen in real life. I sort of expected most of
these responses. There was one that did surprise me.I asked one person what their favorite movie was
and they responded with If I Stay; it reminds me of my childhood friend Ashley. In the Movie the girl
gets into an accident and falls into a coma that is the exact way my friend died 2 weeks before the
release of the movie. I was very surprised by this one respons. I would respond just like this. My
favorite movie is probably Lord Of The Rings or Harry Potter. They are my favorite movies because I
grew up watching them. I just love them they are honestly the best movies, the story line, the
adventure it s just amazing and they have so many learning lessons in them. There not just stupid
movies about sex, drugs, etc. They have a meaning to

The Mobile Food Bank Delivery Service
The Mobile Food Bank delivery service serves as an 8 month pilot project and may possibly satisfy
the needs of people with mobility issues. As stated earlier, this project also aims to deliver to
approximately 50 households bi weekly in Halifax. Ultimately, this project hopes to improve food
security in Halifax. However, there are a few evident and visible barriers that exist, amongst these are
finding the financial support for this project, and most importantly, the effectiveness of the project.
Since this 8 month project is a non profit project that does not aim to sell food, but rather to give food
to those who are in need instead, there is no need to apply for a Food Establishment Permit (Nova
Scotia, 2015). However, if the project committees wish to organize any fundraisers prior to the start of
the project, which includes food booths or mobile canteens that involves selling food at temporary
events, it is then necessary that the project committee applies for a Temporary Event Permit (Nova
Scotia, 2015).
In addition to fundraising events, there are also several grants that are available. However, grants do
not provide a guaranteed source of income. Applying for grants is an arduous task, which would fall
under the responsibilities of the project employee, and the start of the project would be dependent on
the employee s ability to secure the finances.
Barrier 2: Annual Increase in Food Prices and Accessibility

  • 2. The Play Distracted By Lisa Loomer Essay The play Distracted by Lisa Loomer talks about a 9 year old boy who has trouble learning in school. He screams at his parents and the teacher suspects the boy may have ADHD. The mom received some advice from her friends and the psychiatrist suggests Ritalin. The father, on the other hand, disagrees. There is a family conflict between the mom and dad. Then, in the other speaker series I attended was Immigrant nation. It is a documentary film directed by Esau Melendaz. Its primary focus was about an undocumented immigrant who was deported back to her country. She refused to go back and was forced to stay in an asylum or one year. As a result, she began the immigration reform movement. People of whom were from different cultures supported her. The third Speaker series, I attended, was Working for our political environment and Personal Health by Jill Stein. There, Dr. Stein pointed the dysfunctional ways of the political system. She advocated for proper attention for these problems such as: free education, healthy food and a pollution free environment. The final event was the Transformative Social Justice through Radical Science Fiction by Adrennie Brown. The speech was mainly about change that could be brought upon the world through sci fi . She talked about, social, racial and sex justice. After listening to these events, it made me realize that it s every individual responsibility to bring change to our community. The Differences between Command Economies and Free Market Economies The prime difference between command economies and free market economies is the method used to answer the three central questions of what, for whom, and how? Each of these questions relates to production. In a free market economy, the answers to these questions are decided by the consumer and overseen by a government that practices a laissez faire economic policy. Production is decided on a supply and demand basis resulting in a capitalist society. This happens due to the dispersion of wealth throughout an economy, the richest dictating which products should be produced due to their own demands, and the poorest having little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This type of economy works in the private sector of business ie. Individual firms. A command economy is an entirely different system in which a central government decides how to answer the three central economic questions. The government would decide what is to be produced, how it is to be priced etc. resulting in a far more communist state. This obviously gives the government a far more autocratic role in their economic policy in contrast to the free market economy. Products are designed with the incentive to meet consumer needs rather than to meet the wants of the richest. This way is far more practical towards ensureing the production of necessary goods. This type of economy works under the public sector everything is funded and controlled by the central government. Discuss Whether there are Lessons to be Learned Between the Two Systems No economic system will ever work flawlessly so it is undoubtable that these two systems would be able to adapt to become more practical. For one example, in the free market economy, there have often been problems with failure to produce medicines that are seen bt medical companies to be unprofitable but that are ncessary to public health. At this point, it would be wise to adopt a more command economy in which it can be assessed which medicines are needed and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Medicine And Medicine In The Elizabethan Era Medicine and Shakespeare The power of community to create health is far greater than any physician, clinic, or hospital. (Mark Hyman). In the Elizabethan Era, most of society was poverty stricken, which drove communities to improvise to help the sick as real doctors and physicians were too expensive. Barbers and wise women rose to the occasion of helping the sick, although they did not have much medical knowledge. Medical knowledge was also lacked in professional doctors and physicians as their knowledge revolved around their religion, leaving the sick in the mercy of misconceptions. During the 16th century, society suffered from lack of medical knowledge and ignorance to the benefit of sanitation, resulting in misconceptions of faulty doctors that brought expansion of diseases and death. Society was deprived of the proper sanitation that would of helped prevent most diseases that killed many. The daily routines of commoners contributed to the extension of diseases as those routines were not very hygienic. For example, people emptied their bodily waste into cesspits, which served as a breeding grounds for fatal diseases (Catcher); people rarely changed their clothes as they usually only had an outfit for each season; and peasants had to use dried leaves as toilet paper. • 9. Comparing A Spider Holds A Silver Ball, And Design By... Approximately 30.5% of people in the United States are arachnophobic (7 Arachnophobia Statistics). With that, most people dislike spiders from a young age for their eerie, hairy, and nightmarish bodies. Although, there is another side, spiders also create webs to catch their prey, but these death contraptions are very fragile and it takes a very meticulous and careful spider to correctly design one. These different beliefs are each shown in the two poems A Spider Holds a Silver Ball by Emily Dickinson, and Design by Robert Frost. Dickinson shows a majestic web, made by an equally majestic spider, whereas Frost portrays an evil spider, using his web only to kill and consume his prey. The use of imagery and tone in A Spider Holds a Silver Ball by Emily Dickinson, and Design by Robert Frost clearly shows the contrasting portrayal of spiders by each spider. The imagery used by Frost and Dickinson is so different that it shows the readers a different characterization of spiders from each poem. Dickinson paints an image of a danseur spider dancing softly (li. 3), and plié[ ing] from Nought to Nought (li. 5), she depicts a glorious spider that makes his webs very gracefully. The idea that the spider is a danseur and gracefully constructs his web has the reader, instead of picturing a hairy, fat, and ugly spider, one that looks like a real human, a dancer. Brezhnev also supported weakening animosities with the West in order to improve relations, attempting to improve the social and economic condition within the Soviet Union. However, due to health problems, much of the actual implementation was carried out by others within the CPSU leadership. Being on average older than the general population, the CPSU leadership was mostly conservative, which hindered the progress. Overall, through trying to combine the conservative and relatively outdated ideologies of Stalinism with failing economic reforms, Brezhnev was credited with the Era of Stagnation in the Soviet Union, being unable to deal with both internal and international affairs. Gilded Age During The Gilded Age 1880 1928 The Gilded Age in America ranges from 1880 to 1928 and can be understood simply by acknowledging that the wealthy dominated the poor in all aspects of life. American history during the Gilded Age can be further examined particularly in two ways, socially and economically. Establishing the understanding and connection between protection of the people, the type of government being practiced, and the concept of efficiency will allow for an educated assessment of this time and will highlight policies and practices that America should be looking at to succeed as it moves forward. At this time, there was little to no protection of people that were not wealthy business men such as Andrew Carnegie and William Graham Sumner who both make cases in favor of social Darwinism. Business men of this time believed that they were wiser than the poor and that if the workers diligently tried, they could be rich as well(PS26). This was not a valid way to look at how society was going because of unsafe working conditions and low wages. Large scale business owners held a tight rein on workers, which in turn led to events like the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire in 1911 where nearly 150 women were killed because they were trapped in a burning building. According to Brown, family medicine is the academic discipline, composed of knowledge, skills and attitudes. Family practice is the application of that knowledge in a system of medical care (Brown, 1979). Dr. Lynn Carmichael also stated that, an important component in the definition of the family physician is that he has a tenured relationship in which the doctor and the family members have mutually agreed upon obligations. No other physician has this unwritten contract with patients of all ages and with the whole family (Brown, 1979). In other words, family practice consists of family medicine, but family medicine does not consists of family practice. This is what makes family physicians unique from other physicians. They have their own bond with the patients without having to having to have some kind of written contract. It gives the patients time to understand and get to know the physician and have an actual conversation. Whereas for other physicians there is a tendency where the physician is having a one way conversation where the physician is only talking to the patient and the patient is just listening. In the late 50s the arrival of large factor ships from other countries hailed the first onslaught to the finely balanced renewable cod fishery. In Newfoundland over 35,000 fishers and plant workers from over 400 coastal communities became unemployed in 1992 (Collapse of the Atlantic Northwest Cod Fishery). * ECOLOGICAL: The Atlantic cod fishery collapse left terrible ecological consequences. As mentioned above, the fishing technology was a major destruction to the ecological system by using deployment and draggers. The huge nets that were dropped and dragged along the bottom of the ocean destroyed the underlying eco system in the process. The effect of selective fishing on spawning grounds that is, selectively over exploiting one species in an ecosystem had disastrous effect on the feeding relationships in that ecosystem. This contributes to the overall reduction of spawning stock biomass of the targeted species, but also an increase in the number of invertebrate and vertebrate predators such as crustacean and fish which will prey on cod eggs, larvae, and younger fish. It is a little wonder that a species like cod, would eventually run into difficulties struggling to survive when its habitat is being continuously destroyed and the balance of their food chain had been wiped out. In the movie Blackboard Jungle the sound track portrays a type of rebellion mentality while in the movie Rebel Without a Cause there is an unknown type of mentality. Because of the up tempo beat and the lyrics it reminded me of a rebellion type of music. The song talks about rocking around the clock so I can imagine the teenagers in the movie breaking the teachers records while causing mad hysteria in the classroom. In the movie Rebel Without a Cause the song was more an unknown type of mentality. When I heard the song at the beginning of the movie I didn t know where the song was going to go for instance if the beat was going to increase or slow down. This correlated in the movie because the main character Jim is used to leaving every time he makes a mistake. On the other hand, this time he decides to stay and do the right thing. I think this shows that there is still hope for the youth culture because they are able to realize their own mistakes without parents. When I graduated high school I went to a traditional university, I did not do well and ended withdrawing and failing classes. I attended an online university a few years later and found that it was a lot more conducive to my learning style. The traditional college setting may be better suited for students that may need more structure for learning. Sitting in a classroom with a professor telling you exactly what assignments are, and when they are due is needed for some students. In a traditional college setting the professor will stand in front of the class and give a lecture, at times this lecture will be far from what is needed and filled with those professors personal opinions. Then at a time where you will be given an exam, the material was given is nothing of what the professor lectured on. So in essence, the student will have to sit and listen to a professor lecture and then do their own reading and research. When attending an online program, the student is responsible for making the time to read, study, and complete the necessary work. A Report On Rheumatic Fever Awareness Campaign Of 2016 CAMPAIGN BACKGROUND Rheumatic Fever Awareness Campaign of 2016 is a programme by New Zealand that continues to promote awareness against sore throat caused by Group A Streptococcus which complicates to rheumatic fever. It is known that Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF) is serious yet a preventable illness. The campaign is dedicated to reduce the incidence among children and aims to create national consciousness on the importance of early prevention, treatment and the facts about rheumatic fever that may possibly result to heart damage. In New Zealand, ARF has been significantly increasing. It is alarming as ARF is considered an evident indicator of child poverty and ill health (Sharpe, 2012). The cases of ARF doubled from 1.9 per 100 000 to 3.8 per 100 000 from 2005 to 2010 (Lowe, L., Miller, J., Sharpe, N., 2011). It is vital that the problem with ARF be addressed as its rates have constantly failed to decrease and thus remain as one of the highest reported third world diseases in a highly developed country such as New Zealand (Masters, 2009). According to Dr. Coleman, Minister of Health, in his media statement on ARF last May 1, 2016, he claimed that the campaign aims to decrease the cases of ARF by two thirds by June 2017. Different intervention techniques were used to pursue the objectives of the campaign such as school throat swabbing, health education, community exposure to lowly deprived areas, media advertisements and promotions. Improving The Lives Of Adult Learners Essay Using Screencast o matic in UMUC s Undergraduate Writing Program University of Maryland University College has the mission of improving the lives of adult learners (UMUC, 2016). In the Undergraduate School, the writing program contributes to this mission by providing helping students meet their academic and professional goals through writing instruction. Adult learners lead busy lives. They typically are balancing school with other responsibilities such as work and family. Taking it a step further, these government revenues that could have been generated with the exportation and taxation of nitrate, could have been implemented towards Bolivia s infrastructure, education programs, payments of debt, and several other programs that create economic and social development in the country. He continues to fail his creature, swearing him into exile, then creating another like him before destroying it (and thus any chance of happiness for the creature), and then hunting him down. We started from the ending of the Civil War examining how it has changed our country for the better as well as how the war started a push on domestic affairs within this country. From then to present time many of the roles of government has been equally overpowering as well as barely caring. This nation now needs a federal government that is there for the country s benefit, but able to keep out of the affairs of citizens at home. Maybe its time that the federal government put more of a focus on the foreign affairs and let state and local government handle smaller situations that waste to much time in federal court. With the time wasted in federal government in domestic affairs we are losing ground in our foreign affairs, our military is loosing support and our economy is going down domestically and internationally. Our history of foreign affairs has only become more of a recent need since WWII. As a country today we are currently in a domestic battle against having more or less focus on foreign policy. • 41. Taking a Look at Validation Models Schemas are important validation tools which can ensure data is valid and well formed for use. There are different varieties that can be used to verify a document and ensure conformance to standards. Some use a tree hierarchy and others just simple constructs. Lee and Chu (2000) note the following in their paper; DTD, XSD, SOX, Schematron and DSD. Fawcett et al (2012) mention Schematron, DTD, RELAX NG, and XSD. I will discuss some of these in comparison to DTD and XSD which are follow ons from this week s Schema discussions. DTD This Schema type on uses attributes and elements and follows a hierarchy in structure type. It is very simplistic and uses few attribute definitions, and does not follow XML type syntax. However, despite its simplistic nature, it is the most widely used standard according to Lee and Chu (2000). XSD The true XML Schema Definition is very different from DTD in that it can be very granular in its descriptive elements and follows XML syntax rules. This can make it very powerful, in its support of namespaces and true data types, allowing for better conformity and use in data transformation and query. Another strength of XML Schema is it inheritance, which can simplify some reuse of attributes and combining of Schema documents. Its weakness goes hand in hand with its strength as the complexity it allows for causes confusion by all but the most advanced users according to Fawcett et al (2012). As stated earlier, this project also aims to deliver to approximately 50 households bi weekly in Halifax. Ultimately, this project hopes to improve food security in Halifax. However, there are a few evident and visible barriers that exist, amongst these are finding the financial support for this project, and most importantly, the effectiveness of the project. Since this 8 month project is a non profit project that does not aim to sell food, but rather to give food to those who are in need instead, there is no need to apply for a Food Establishment Permit (Nova Scotia, 2015). However, if the project committees wish to organize any fundraisers prior to the start of the project, which includes food booths or mobile canteens that involves selling food at temporary events, it is then necessary that the project committee applies for a Temporary Event Permit (Nova Scotia, 2015). In addition to fundraising events, there are also several grants that are available. However, grants do not provide a guaranteed source of income.
