Rhetorical Analysis Of Hillary Clinton s Speech
Hillary Clinton spoke at the U.N. Fourth World Conference on Women. This speech was delivered
on September fifth in Beijing, China. This conference promoted The Beijing Declaration and the
Platform for Action, which aimed to provide equal rights to women across the globe (World, n.
pag.). Clinton s speech promoting women s rights was successful because she established
credibility, addressed the abusive treatment of women around the world, logically responded to that
treatment, and provided an inspirational call to action. Clinton established ethos early on in her
speech which supported her testimony at the conference. She opened her speech by saying, I would

She declares, when families flourish, communities and nations do as well. That is why every
woman, every man, every child, every family, and every nation on this planet does have a stake
in the discussion that takes place here (n. pag.). She begins to conclude her speech with the
unifying structure of family. To create a family, a woman must be present, each of those family
compile to create communities, and communities create nations. She uses this to explain that
women help form the base of all nations and therefore, the equal treatment of women will reflect
prosperously on countries. This supported her argument because it appealed to the diplomats in
the audience that can make changes in their various countries around the world. She brings her
argument to a close with the following remarks, The time is now. We must move beyond
rhetoric. We must move beyond recognition of problems to working together, to have the
comment efforts to build that common ground we hope to see (n. pag.). This is successful for the
closing of her argument because it specifically calls her audience to make bigger changes than
what has previously been done. Speaking on inequality and putting laws into place that supports
equality for all results in much different changes. She calls for her audience to join forces with
others to truly make a difference in their own people s lives, as well as, those who live in other

Sensitivity Analysis
In general sensitivity analysis, the most influencing parameters are identified through building a
statistical linear model, partial t test, and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Sensitivity analysis was
conducted through Design of experiments (DoE) in order to determine the most influencing
geological parameters on the Gas Assisted Gravity Drainage process performance. DoE combines
multi level of each parameter to create many computer experiments evaluated by the compositional
reservoir simulation to obtain the flow response factor. In this study, the parameters adopted for
sensitivity analysis are horizontal permeability, anisotropy ratio $K_{v}/K_{h}$, and porosity, all
given for the entire reservoir. First, more than 80 computer... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Moreover, this fact can be also observed in Figure ~ref{fig:sa1lm} that decorates the component
residual plots for each parameter. If a variable has a horizontal straight line of residual, it has no
effect on the response and should be removed from the linear model, specifically the porosity
variable. Figure ~ref{fig:sa1_lm} shows the basic diagnostic plots for the full linear model.
The residuals vs. fitted plot is used to determine if the linear relationship between the predictors
(parameters) and outcome factors are captured by the model. An accurate model will have a
residuals vs. fitted plot with a horizontal line with residuals above and below it without forming
a pattern or grouping, as seen in the top left plot. Moreover, the normal Q Q plot, shown in the
top right plot, is used to determine if the residuals are normally distributed. A good normal
distribution will have a normal Q Q plot which follows a straight line, as do our results.
Furthermore, the Scale Location plot shows if the residuals are spread equally along all ranges
of the predictors. Ideally, the residuals should be randomly spread across all fitted values and not
tend to one area, as ours do in the bottom left plot. Likewise, the Residuals vs Leverage plot
determines how big of an impact outliers points have on the regression curve. Additionally, outliers
away from the Cook s distance will have a large

Economics in One Lesson Essay
Economics in One Lesson is an introduction to free market economics written by Henry Hazlitt
and published in 1946. Hazlitt begins his monumental book by describing the problems with
economic science, showing that its fallacies are greatly exacerbated compared to other scientific
fields because of special interests in government. The special interest groups consistently
advocate policies that they benefit from at the expense of everyone else. Many people, however,
believe these fallacies because of man s nature to see only the immediate effects of a given policy,
or its effects only on a special group. Those people neglect the long termeffects and the implications
on other groups by an economic policy. Hazlitt goes on to explain that... Show more content on

Considering the role of government in lending and the overlap on taxation, Private lenders are
more stringent in their lending policies and, consequently, have to turn down some high risk
borrowers. The government is willing to lend these borrowers the money they need for capital
to carry out their businesses. These borrowers will then be able to acquire the resources they
need to produce what they need. What is overlooked at this point is the fact that, because these
high risk borrowers were able to get what could have been acquired by low risk borrowers from
private lenders, the resources ended up in the hands of less efficient producers who may not be as
productive as the producers who qualified for private lending. Furthermore, high risk borrowers
get the money from the taxpayers and taxpayers can not fet benefit from this lending and this
means the practice to the benefit of a few at the expense of everyone else. For the short term result,
government lending can encourage entrepreneurship to create more GDP and bring benefit for the
high risk borrowers. But for the long term result, high risk borrowers may not produce and use
money efficiently when get money from the government. The worse is that this only benefit for
special groups.

Flexible Schedule Essay
Why is it important for children to experience a consistent yet flexible schedule?
Children like consistent because they feel comfortable and know what to expect. Children also
need flexible so they are able to understand that change happen. However it is how we deal as adult
with the change that they view.
What are the benefits for including active and quite times in a child s schedule (you do not need to
list every benefit, but can list two benefits of physical activity/active play and two benefits of rest
and relaxation).
Having physical activity and play helps with less of rough and tumble play and there is less

Drake Taylor Narrative
It s game night for the young Drake Taylor. Overwhelmed with nervousness, with a cold sweat
running down his forehead. Tonight s the night , Drake said to himself, tonight s the night of
the game that means everything. For a kid with no confidence, he was pumped to show off his
skills. The bounce of a knee to his favorite motivational song helped him get an edge and focus
on his game. Through all the chaos he waits. Finally getting to the rink from what seemed like a
never ending car ride. Pulling his stinky bag and sticks out of the car he called home for the last

period. The wait was over it all comes down to this, Drake cannot afford to lose this. It s time the
team all said to themselves. The final period of the game came with no surprise. Two evenly
matched teams are fighting for the spot of champions. Shutting them out and not even get a
shot, they were playing the best game of their season. Knowing that this last period meant
everything. All the waiting was over it all comes down to this final minute. Its down in their end

Crim Mapping Crime Chapter Summary
In chapter 2, Short discusses the many ways that maps have advanced over centuries. Without the
satellites and technology that we have today, maps were first created from educated guesses. Some
people thought the Earth was flat. Others believed that the universe revolved around the Earth.
Although maps have not always had the accuracy that they do today, they have still played a large
role in how we solve problems, especially when it comes to crime and public health. The latitude
and longitude on a mapmay be able to tell us where a neighborhood is located, but it doesn t
explain much about the area itself. Mapping crime began in France in the early 1800 s. It was
first used to show where different types of crime were occurring. Throughout the years, mapping
crime has advanced, giving law enforcement a visual of where crime occurs most frequently.
These maps help detectives and police officers to understand crime. They have learned that crime
is most likely to happen far enough from a criminal s home to not raise suspicion, but close enough
that the criminals are still feels comfortable with the area. A great example of the positive effects of

If there is a certain illness that is targeting one area of a map, then it is easier to narrow down the
cause of the illness. Maps can also help us learn where we need to build hospitals, urgent care
facilities, and doctor s offices. Mapping crime lets us know where hot spots are located. If we
know that a specific area has a higher crime rate, we can increase the police presence in that area
to stop the crime before it happens. Mapping of crime and public health have helped the
government and general public learn how to improve the quality of life for the people living in
that area. Mapping is not just about knowing the latitude and longitude of a specific place, but it
can help us to learn how we can improve the world around

Advantages Of Discount Brokers
The advent of discount brokers in the Indian market have revolutionized the way trading is done in
India.
Discount brokerages have heavily brought down the cost of trading. This has proven to be a boon
to the traders especially the intraday and the derivatives trades.
Discount brokerages like RKSV and Zerodha have already started hurting the broking industry.
Full service brokers had made a request to market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of
India (SEBI) to impose a minimum slab on the brokerage being charged by discount brokers. This
request was declined, clearing the way for more aggressive competition.
These brokers rely entirely on the online trading platform and technology to keep costs down, while

Getting more profits
Put simply, we are out there to make money in the stock markets. When one goes through the
contract note of the regular brokers, there are huge costs spent on brokerages, taxes and duties.
At a brokerage of Rs.30 on per lot of Option one has to pay a brokerage of around Rs.150 for 5
lots. There are also duties and taxes which increase it to Rs.200.When the same thing is done
through a discount brokerage the brokerage cost is Rs.20 and adding the taxes and duties it come
to Rs.40. There is saving of Rs.150. It directly adds more money to the profits.
2. No need to sacrifice the quality of the execution.
There is no difference between trading through a regular broker and a discount broker. There is still
the old facility of call and trade. There is the new facility of mobile trading and online trading.
3. More high frequency trades
The reduction of brokerage brings down the breakdown even. The intraday brokerage for discount
brokerage is 0.01% or Rs.20, whichever is lower. So, in small trades, when a trader buys at 100.01
and sells at 100.05, he still makes profit. In large trades, the advantage is even more as the
brokerage is even less due to the Rs.20 cap. This reduction of breakeven point enables a trader to do

Tax Vs Flat Tax
Life would be so much simpler if taxes were a flat percentage for all income levels, with maybe a
few exceptions for the lowest income levels. A flat tax system is a very simplified version of our
current progressive tax system. One with no itemized deductions or credits, and increased personal
exemption amounts.
To increase savings and investments, the following types of income would be taxed at reduced
rates, by allowing a 50% deduction, qualified interest and dividend income, long term capital
gains, and retirement and Social Security. We could take the social engineering out of our system;
stop catering to the special interest groups, and make the system fair, simple, and easy to
administer for everyone who wants to pay his fair share. No more, no less. ... Show more content on

A flat tax is a single rate that covers all income brackets of taxpayers, rather than the current
progressive system, in which taxes higher income individuals at increased rates and includes
numerous deductions and exemptions. Under A 9% plan, Americans would pay a flat 9 percent
rate on their personal incomes, corporate incomes, and on sales. Another option would be a Cut,
Balance and Grow system that would give taxpayers the choice to opt out of the current system
and pay 20 percent on individual income and allow for a few of the deductions in the current code.
Proponents of the flat tax argue that it would simplify the tax code while broadening the tax base.
Opponents say the flat tax would shift much of the revenue burden to middle and low income
Americans while lowering taxes on the wealthiest

Essay on Prayer Should Be Allowed in Public Schools
Prayer Should Be Allowed in Public Schools School prayer is a very controversial issue in today
s society. The issue of school prayer is about whether the public school systems should let the
students pray, at the start of the school day, as a class. The issue of school prayer began in the
late sixteenth century when people in England did not approve of the way one religion was forced
upon them, so the Puritans, known as the Pilgrims decided to come to the colonies. Even in the
colonies the Pilgrims had problems with religion they had to sometimes resort to highly creative
strategies in order to pray. When people were caught having a secret service they would have to

Prayer should allowed in the public school system because prayer is an important part of
America s rich spiritual heritage. All throughout the history of America there have been many
important documents written of our country that have references to Almighty God, Thy
Blessings, and Our dependence upon Thee. These include: the Declaration of Independence, the
Gettysburg Address, the national anthem, and the presidential oath (Haas, 1995, p. 39). In
school students always say the pledge, which states, One Nation Under God. A prayer says that
students just want to ask for a good day and guidance throughout the day. Not only do important
documents of our country refer to God but also the words In God We Trust are engraved on all
coins minted and bills pressed in the United States (1995, p. 39). There are two parts of the
American tradition and they are prayer and religion (1995, p. 39). If society keeps prayer out of
the public schools, they are teaching the students that traditions are not important and that what this
country was founded upon does not matter. Does society want to raise a group of young people to
disrespect what their forefathers wanted; religious freedom? If that is the case then why do people
try to keep this country working at its prime when trouble occurs? People do not want to see this
nation fall but in the end it

Gay marriage persuasive essay
Gay Marriage in the United States
The debate between whether gay marriage should be legalized or not has been a controversial
topic recently. In the past twelve years, equal marriage rights have been legalized in 6 states of the
U.S.. Eighteen states do not allow gay marriage and do not recognize civil unions. The other
twenty six states allow civil unions, and some are debating legalizing gay marriage. Gay marriage
should be legal across the United States.
Not allowing gay marriage in any state is unconstitutional. If one state is to allow gay marriage,
then the people that get married in that state are supposed to be legally married in all other states of
the United States (Hertz). The constitution states, in article 5, that anything ... Show more content

I, for one, would love to be there when the proponent of such an argument is to explain to his
post menopausal mother or impotent father that since they cannot procreate, they must now
surrender their wedding rings! That would be fun to watch! Again, such an argument fails to
persuade based on the marriages society does allow routinely, without even a second thought.
Same sex couples aren t the optimum environment in which to raise children. That s an
interesting one, in light of who society does allow to get married and bring children into their
marriage. Check it out: murderers, convicted felons of all sorts, even known child molesters are
all allowed to freely marry and procreate, and do so every day, with hardly a second thought by
these same critics. So if children are truly the priority here, why is this allowed? Why are the
advocates of this argument not working to prohibit the above categories of people from raising
children? The fact is that many gay couples raise children, adopted and occasionally their own
from failed attempts at heterosexual marriages. Lots and lots of scientific studies have shown that
the outcomes of the children raised in the homes of gay and lesbian couples are just as good as
those of straight couples. The differences have been shown again and again to be insignificant.
Psychologists tell us that what makes the difference is the

Starbucks Financial Ratios
If you were an accountant for a potential investor in this company, explain which of these ratios
would be of the most interest to you. In your opinion, what other ratio or ratios beyond the ones
listed above should also be considered in an investment context?
Investors refer to people who willingly input money into a business with the expectations of a
return in future. Normally, investors have an interest in all the ratios as they indicate the financial
health of a firm. One of the most important ratios to potential investors is return on shareholders
equity. The ratio measures the percentage return that investors get for every dollar of their
investment in a company. For example, from the calculation above, Macy s Inc shareholders got a
25.18% for every dollar invested in year 2015. A high ROE is an indicator of high returns to the

Investors are risk averse and want to be sure that they will get back value for their money from a
company. The ratio analyses the business s ability to pay interest expense i.e. how many times the
company s earnings can cover interest costs. The higher the ratio, the better the company s
liquidity. Use of financial leverage has been known to lead to bankruptcy of companies hence the
need to ensure that a business can pay back financing costs before making an investment. There are
several other ratios that should be considered in an investment context including P/E ratio, debt to
equity ratio, dividend yield and asset turnover ratio. P/E ratio indicates how much money an
investor is willing to pay to acquire one unit of a company based on the earnings. The ratio is often
indicates whether a company is overvalued or undervalued. A high P/E ratio is a sigh that investors
expect the company to provide higher returns in the future. Thus, this ratio enables potential

The Czechs weren t invited to take part in the Munich Conference because they didn t want to

Germany. Despite the prohibition, many Austrians supported unity with Germany and in March

A primary group is a small, relatively permanent, intimate, and unspecialized group that develops
a sense of we ; a face to face group that entails close emotional ties. A type of group that is less

The question of based on multiple texts/ entertainment ( movies, TV) how has the meaning or
requirements for the island archetype change throughout time has been answered throughout
this paper. Let s break this down one more time. From the nature of the island archetype we can
see that C.G Jung created this for insight on a character which probably is a reason why many of
today s origin stories model after this archetype. The Odyssey and the TV show Arrow were
clearly made in seperate times, and although they have differences, the two stories share
similarities, so just look at how the characters develop. Yes they develop at different times, but
the way is basicly the same. The two Batman stories really show a difference, we see a major
emotional change from a confident playboy millionaire to a angery almost murderer. Finally, we
sum this up and see that the island archetype origin story is basically essential to a character s
development. C.G Jung painted the way for literature for growth and new ideas, but he didn t
realize that his idea, the island archetype was the revolutionary idea that used the entire paint can of

On the graduate level, I find that it is easier to be an introvert and participate. Once the human
element is taken away, I can find myself being open. I do not see my classmates face to face so I
can allow myself to say things that I ordinarily would not do or say. As I have gotten older, some
of the introversion has faded to a certain extent, but it is still present. Through my job as a
Special Education Teacher, I have had to overcome a majority of my introversion so I can

The Conflict Between Israelis And Palestinians

The Conflict Between Israelis and Palestinians
On July 14, 2014, Mohammed Suliman, a Muslim living in Gaza City, tweeted, Amir, 12, and
Mohammed. 10, want to buy yogurt. Things are calm, they tell their mom. They leave the house.
A blast is heard. They re dead (Hosford). Tragic though it is, this is not a rare phenomenon in this
region. In fact, 2,314 Palestinians were killed and 17,125 injured just in 2014 alone as a result of
Israel s activities in the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and East Jerusalem, according to the annual report
by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Because of the unfair
treatment of Palestinians, the situation in Israel/Palestine is a human rights conflict.
To further understand this conflict, one must first know how it began. In 1948, the country of
Israel was formally created. Technically speaking, this would be the origin of this conflict, but
some scholars think it began earlier. They believe it was a result of the Jewish exiles in ancient

Hotel On The Corner Of Bitter And Sweet Literary Analysis
Rebirth is an over arching theme in the book, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, written
by Jamie Ford. One of the main symbols of second rebirth is the ever present Oscar Holden
record. The records symbolizes not only Henry and Keiko s relationship, but how it can be
renewed. From when Henry and Keiko buy the record, to Henry finding it 40 years later, the
record always has a strong significance in the book. Though not the first mention of the Oscar
Holden record, the story of the vinyl started with Henry taking Keiko to the Black Elks Club. On
that night Oscar Holden dedicated song to them, and it became their song . Later, Keiko gave
Henry the record as a thank you present for their exciting night at the Black Elks Club. The... Show

When Henry got to her apartment, he found out that Keiko was married and widowed, just like
him. Like the two halves of the record, though apart, still the same. Ultimately meeting after 40
years, Henry and Keiko picked up where they left off. They were like an old married couple,
finishing each other s sentences. They stood there, smiling at each other, like they had done all
those years ago, standing on either side of that fence. Oai deki te... She paused. Ureshii desu,
Henry said softly. (pp. 285) With this shared sentence, Henry and Keiko were mending their
relationship, putting the parts back together to create a new bond, one that was never broken.
Their old relationship could never be truly fixed, but they started a new one with the intact record.
The record, and Henry and Keiko s bond, was finally renewed in this meeting. The book, Hotel on
the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, shows many themes through a simple vinyl record. One
important aspect of the record s meaning is rebirth, but it also stands for second chances, love,
friendship, and of course, Henry and Keiko. In the end, Keiko and Henry are not the same people,
and their relationship is a new one, one that was waiting for all the years they were apart. The
Oscar Holden record holds its significance in the book from the beginning to the

The Birthday Party Analysis
CHAPTER 1
COMEDY OF MENACE: FORMS OF REPRESENTATION
When Pinter s first professionally produced play, The Birthday Party was staged in London in
1958, it faced such severe criticism from reviewers and critics that the play was taken off stage
after a week s run. The reviewers rejected the play on grounds that it was obscure, baffling and
enigmatic. Darlington, a critic of the Daily Telegraph remarked, it turned out to be one of those
plays in which an author wallows in symbols and revels in obscurity (20 May 1958). An
anonymous Times critic wrote, Mr. Harold Pinters effects are neither comic nor terrifying: they are
never more than puzzling and after a little while we tend to give up the puzzle in despair (20
May 1958). M. W. W in the Manchester Guardian commented, ...although the author must have
explained his play to the cast, he gives no clues to the audience . . . What [it all] means, only Mr.
Pinter knows, for as his characters speak in non sequiturs, half gibberish and lunatic ravings, they
are unable to explain their actions, thoughts or feelings (May 21, 1958). On receiving such
negative reviews of the play, Pinter was so disheartened that he almost decided to stop writing
plays. His career as a playwright could have ended there, had there not been his loyal wife and
friends to support and encourage him to write and the lone favourable review of the play by drama
critic, Harold Hobson1, in the Sunday Times. Pinter himself admits this to Michael Billington,

Judgment in the House of Sand and Fog Essay
Judgment in the House of Sand and Fog People place judgment on one another every day based on
differences. Sometimes it is done subconsciously; sometimes it is done on purpose. In the book The
House of Sand and Fog, by Andre Dubus III, two different cultures were represented; Kathy
represented the cultureof the western civilization, whereas Behrani represented the culture of
Persians. People judge one another based on unimportant things, and get judged based on those
same things as well. Two cultures were used to amplify how different their cultures were from one

man, a Persian man, photographed with a man who has a bad history. He also threatened to have
the INS check out the Behrani family, and pull strings if necessary to get the Behranis out of the
house, even though the Behrani family had full U.S. citizenship at that point. These judgments
passed out by both cultures show that all cultures function using judgment. In the reading The
Case for Contamination, Appiah states that some people like and some people don t like that
certain cultures have accepted being able to get a discussion going about Ronaldo, Mike Tyson
or Tupac, and being able to find a bottle of Guinness or Coca Cola, (paragraph 9). Many people
judge people who have accepted western civilizations, considering their identities threatened.
Different cultures possess different ideas of how people should present themselves. Appearance
is a large part of culture, because a complete stranger can be judged based on their appearance.
Behrani is the kind of man who always has to look put together. He will not let people see him in
un kept clothing. When he worked on the highway doing manual labor, he would wear a work
shirt , however when he left he would go to the bathroom at a hotel where he parked his car and
change immediately and wash up. He did not want anybody to see him looking dirty. The

American Enlightenment Research Paper
The Enlightenment period in the eighteenth century is a significant time in history as it became the
standard structure for democratic society. However, Enlightenment did not address slavery yet
enlightened government rule leading to the Declaration of Independence and United States
Constitution. Both milestones in history are significant game changers in history. The term
American enlightenment is an eighteenth century movement in North America where a group of
people sought enlightenment. American Enlightenment is an awakening of ideals transcendent in
the subject matter of intellectual, political, scientific, cultural, and social endeavors (qtd. in

American Enlightenment is an intellectual shift of ideals in the eighteenth century; a state of being.

Out of the many great and famous leaders of the world, two important men are universal household
names. Winston Churchill, through his bravery and calm during World War II, achieved world

conflicts, however, left a bitter taste in the global community s mouth. Though British Prime
Minister The Right Honourable Sir Winston Churchilland President George W. Bushwere both

Pear Tree Analysis
Emely Gonzalez
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
AP Literature Pd.3
Topic 3
All forms of life commence as a seed, hoping to grow into a mature tree with a solid foundation,
firm limbs, and distinctive leaves. In order to reach desired growth, one must be watered with the
earth s nutrients and acquire the sun s vital rays. These paramount provisions symbolize nurture,
independent or parental, and allows an individual to learn, experience, to flourish. The trunk of
the tree, our flows, links to the branches, our paths and experiences. The leaves are a series of
encounters with people or situations, and it illustrates the idea that we are constantly meeting
different individuals who leave little or great impact in our lives and we constantly go through
episodes that help define who we are. There is a frequency of these occurrences, they come and
go like the leaves do as the seasons change. Ultimately, a tree is a metaphor of life, one that ideally
depicts the journey of Janie, the protagonist in Their Eyes Were Watching Godby Zora Neale
Hurston. Throughout the novel, she is compared to a pear tree, and as it matures, she is struck with
the repercussions of poor decisions and the inevitability of change which begins to transform Janie
and disintegrate the tree. All trees possess their own flaws, meaning that every tree is one of kind.
Janie spent most of her time under a pear tree, which frequently presents itself throughout the novel.

Earning A Postsecondary Degree Essay
Have you ever wondered if getting a postsecondary degree will help in your future? Well if you
said yes then this essay will give you the information on why it is. Earning a postsecondary
degree can increase your income according to the article (college still worth it?). Some people
prefer not getting a postsecondary degree because it cost to much or it s too much work while
others get it and have a higher income. Earning a postsecondary degree will have a positive
impact on someone s life because there will be more job opportunities, earn a higher income, and a
longer life expectancy.
First of all, Earning a postsecondary degree will have a positive impact on someone s life because
there will be more job opportunities available for them. For example, according to (Does having a
degree...) economic conditions have led to a sharp decrease in employment of young professionals.
Additionally, when compared with other education levels, individuals with a college degree were
the only group that had a better job. For instance, according to the National Center for Education
Statistics, the unemployment rate is higher than the unemployment rate in age groups.
Furthermore, the unemployment rate goes down with the effort being made employment rate

s life expectancy. Furthermore, In the article (Why accountants live longer than builders)
Professional women have a life expectancy at birth of 85.1 years compared with 78.1 for manual

Primary Endosymbiosis
Endosymbiosis is one of the most fascinating concepts we have covered so far. I have heard it
said that if our extremely distant ancestor microbe had never engulfed that first mitochondria,
life as we know it would not exist, and it seems to me that is probably true. As explained by
Avissar et al., at some point around 3.5 billion years ago there was very little molecular oxygen
in Earth s atmosphere (2016). Prokaryotes called cyanobacteria evolved to use sunlight as an
energy source to break down carbon dioxide. These early prokaryotes were engulfed by other
organisms, the earliest of the eukaryotes, in a process called primary endosymbiosis. Such
cyanobacteria are still evident in the plastids found in modern eukaryotic plant cells. Their... Show

The second important endosymbiotic event occurred as a result, in the acquisition of mitochondria
by the earliest eukaryotes (Avissar et al., 2016). Mitochondria are responsible for aerobic cellular
respiration in eukaryotic cells, and for a long time it was believed that they were simply organelles.
But much like plastids in photoreactive eukaryotes, the evidence points to mitochondria having
been absorbed by early eukaryotes, forming a symbiotic relationship in which the larger cell
protected the smaller and provided a ready source of nutrients, and in turn the mitochondria
allowed the larger cells to process all of the new molecular oxygen as an energy source to promote
glycolysis (Cooper, 2000).
Another strong piece of evidence that points to plastids and mitochondria having once been distinct
organisms from their eukaryotic hosts is the fact that unlike other cell organelles, they contain their
own DNA and reproduce independently (though in sync with) their host cells (Avissar et al.,
2016). This was first observed when a biologist noticed that mitchondria seem to move on their
own, independent of the host cell s movement. Clearly this arrangement has been a winning one,
since the results of these kinds of endosymbiosis have persisted and evolved for billions of

Indie Video Game Development
Being an indie video game developer is tough work as there s a lot that goes into the
development of a video game. Unlike bigger AAA studios, indie developers only have
themselves or a small team to accomplish this great amount of work and with that, comes a
large amount of time having to be invested into the games creation but how does an indie
developer know or gain enough knowledge to form a prediction of whether that game in
development will be a success or not? The answer is simply data. Just like larger studios, indie
studios or developers can use data to collect valuable feedback from their players/audiences; even
if the developer/studio doesn t have any preexisting game titles of their own. The only thing
required is simply a game... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However the generation of publicity can be put into the Alpha stage if the studio/developer feels
confident in doing so. An example of this being successful is from the studio Dynamic Pixels ,
who shared both their Alpha and Beta builds with popular influencers on YouTube, such as

Underground Man Analysis
Dostoevsky s Underground Man is quite possibly the most interesting anti hero in all of literature.
His unique worldview has both shocked and puzzled readers since the novella s publication. One
of his key characteristics is his tendency towards paradox, especially concerning doubt, shame, and
spitefulness. These paradoxes seem to reflect his era, of which he is often critical to the point of
exhaustion. Other features of the Underground Man s psyche mirror the nineteenth century as well.
For example, his anomie is a result of his life as a clerk in (then) modern Saint Petersburg. The
Underground Man s true self may be shrouded by mystery, but it is clear that he is either telling
us that he lives in all of us through our experiences with alienation, or that if we were anywhere
near as self aware as he is, we would live underground as well. One of the most apparent themes in
Notes from Undergroundis shame. The famous opening lines, I am a sick man.... I am a spiteful
man. I am a most unpleasant man. set the tone for the rest of the book (707). These are clearly
not the words of a person who holds themselves in very high regard. The Underground Man s
shame goes beyond self deprecation as a human. At one point, he admits that he had wished to
become an insect many times (709). Imagery of pests and vermin continues later on when the
Underground Man writes about his propensity for dwelling on the past. He compares himself to
a mouse, who retreats to a hole each night to go over the day s shortcomings. The forty year old
narrator says of the mouse: For forty years on end it will recall its insult down to the last, most
shameful detail; and each time it will add more shameful details of its own, spitefully teasing and
irritating itself with its own fantasy (712). The section continues like this for a considerable
length. The significance of the passage lies in that not only does the Underground Man compare
himself to a mouse, but it is a shame filled mouse that dwells on the past, twisting the truth just as
he does in his writings. The psychological root of this shame is defined by the Underground Man
on page 709, where he writes, I swear to you, gentlemen, that being overly conscious is a disease, a

The Importance Of A Successful Firm Is Good Communication
The cornerstone to a successful firm is good communication. Without it, there is confusion,
resentment, and a blurry vision for the direction the company wants to go. In order to ensure there
is successful communication amongst the managers and its employees of the firm, a
communication contract should be created. This contract establishes ethical communicationand rules
for which each individual is to follow when communicating with others. Aside from creating
excellent communication within the firm, the communication contract creates long lasting benefits
for the firm and creates a solid foundation.
Other communication strategies may create short term profits but do not have the long lasting
benefits of an ethical communication contract. The communication contract I would propose to the
firm I work for would have six clauses. They would be the immunity clause, the respect clause, the
need for change clause, the switched roles clause, the bottom up clause, and the key focus clause.
The immunity clause stipulates that anything said or brought about is done so without any
consequence. The motivation behind this clause is that too many good suggestions or ideas or
constructive criticisms are held back because employees fear that they will be reprimanded or even
lose their job because of the criticism. With the immunity clause employees can share their true
feelings and critiques and that will be honored rather than rebuked. A companion to the immunity
clause is the respect

Effects of Living in a Foreign Country Essay
Living away from your country can be a really interesting and unforgettable experience, but at the
same time it has very important effects on one s life. The purpose of this essay is to discuss the
three main effects that living in another country can produce in your personal life.
The major effect, and also a very common one, is that once you start a regular life away from
home, you miss everything. This fact doesn t mean that you are unhappy but that you are aware of
being on your own. Missing your family and the attention they all paid to you is a very usual thing
to do. Little details like sitting on a Sunday morning watching TV alone instead of helping your dad
organizing his things or having a nice chat with your mom makes you ... Show more content on

It s obvious then that you have started to appreciate everything you had back where you belong.
The second main effect would be learning how to accept another type of society and culture into
your daily life. Since you are living in a place with different customs and traditions from yours,
you have to be able to develop yourself in unknown conditions. This means making new friends,
learning other points of view, accepting different opinions and values, and seizing every
opportunity you have to go to new places. Therefore, you ll be able to achieve true knowledge.
Suggesting to change your mind totally or to be square minded would be foolish; the best thing to
do would be to stick to your most important values and, according to them, change those that you
believe could be improved.
The most significant effect of living away from home is the independent behavior that grows
inside of you. Living on your own far from your family gives you a lot of experiences toward
organizing your life. Since it is up to you and no one else to go to school, clean your room, wash
your clothes, and organize your expenses, it is predictable that you will have a good and strong
meaning of responsibility. Being independent and responsible will help you get through life every
goal you want to achieve.
Living far from home, even for a short period of time, can be really hard at the beginning. We have
to remember that all changes are difficult, but they are

The Year 1000 By Robert Lacey And Danny Danziger
The Year 1000 by Robert Lacey and Danny Danziger offers a delightful, often astonishing portrait
of everyday life in Anglo Saxon England in the year 1000. This very informative book, describes
what life was like that the turn of the first millennium. The Anglo Saxons, a practical, self
contained, fervently superstitious people, were 99% illiterate, yet their language would become
their most widespread legacy. Compared to modern day times, people are almost the opposite from
the Anglo Saxons. There are many qualities that are the same, but also different when comparing
the Year 1000 to the modern era of the 21st century. Within this paper, it will discuss about how the
community, lifestyle, advances in technology, politics, and religion were formed in the Year 1000.
It will also compare and constrast the Year 1000 to the Paleolithicand Neolithicera.
The Paleolithic Era (or Old Stone Age) is a period of prehistory from about 2.6 million years ago
to around 10000 years ago . There are very few subjects that are more controversial than the
origins of the human species. During the Ice Age, a race of people known as the Neanderthals
inhabited the fringes of the European ice pack . Because their remains were discovered in
Neanderthal in Germany, these people were known as Neanderthals. Neanderthals were slightly
different then Homo sapiens. They were heavier, stronger, and hairier then the Homo sapiens .The

usual, Lee Chandler gets the message that his brother Joe Chandler is in the hospital and if he does

The Colors. This archetype is important to any kinds of book or films. Readers or audience can
receive the messages or emotions that the authors want to convey through this symbolic archetype.
For example, the book cover of Nineteen Eighty Four is black, this makes the readers feel it is
about depress and darkness, which the novel certainly is. In Manchester by the Sea, the color is blue
. Blue usually represents sorrow, melancholy, and depress. An illustration of blue is the film
poster s background, which is a gloomy blue sky. In addition, another scene in the movie that
indicates the color blue. Under the same sky, Lee met his ex wife, Randy. Randy already had
her second marriage and gave birth to a baby. When they talked about past, Randy cried: My heart
was broken, and I know yours is broken, too. (Dir Lonergan). This sentence feels so sad, it gives a
strong feeling of sorrow and depress. Therefore, color is a very important symbolic archetype to a

Essay on The Evil of Capitalism
The Evil of Capitalism
An obsession of any kind is usually unhealthy, but obsession with money can destroy the soul. Karl
Marx believed that human activity is paralyzed by the capitalist system. To be sure, the all
encompassing passion for wealth and power is unchristian, but is all capitalism evil? If the answer
were yes, then abandoning capitalism, with its central goal of profit, would seem to be an obvious
solution to the social ills of mankind. Of course, eliminating capitalism is not the answer. The fact
is that capitalism, based on free competition without deception or fraud, can lead to justly obtained
profits, while serving the common good.
Consider the entrepreneurs Eli Whitney, John Deere and Henry Ford, and the ... Show more content

The John Echlin Foundation, for example, is one major contributor to The Hospital of Saint
Raphael, in New Haven, Connecticut. Firms not only built and funded many hospitals and schools,
but they essentially created such national nonprofit organizations as the YMCA. Companies
created hospitals in areas where their employees lived, so future workforces would be healthy.
They funded community chests devoted to social, educational, and recreational amenities for
employees, and even gave money to employees churches so that their spiritual needs would be
met. Railroad companies built a system of YMCAs to give itinerant employees a place to stay the
night and get a hot meal. These expenditures were relatively easy to defend to directors and
shareholders, because the connection between them and the profits of the business were clear.
Amoco Foundation executive director Patricia Wright put it, anyone involved in the corporate
world knows that it is necessary to have a strong strategic link between charitable giving and the
corporation s bottom line (Hood 20).
The nature of corporate giving has changed through the years. During the 1950s and 1960s outside
directors of foundations, made decisions on the basis of social and humanitarian issues, not
corporate goals. The Amoco Foundation had traditionally given money to a host of

The Patent Of Patent And Design Patent
1a) A patent is a new invention, or any new and useful improvement of an existing invention. The
patent owner has an exclusive right, in which the invention can normally only be exploited
(manufactured, used, sold, imported) by the owner. An invention may relate to a product or process.
There is, however, an important distinction between a utility patentand a design patent. A utility
patent protects the functional aspects of an invention; a design patent protects only the appearance
of an invention and not its structure or utilitarian features. Moreover, a utility patent covers any
process, machine, article of manufacture, or composition of matter, or any new and useful
improvements thereof. A design patent covers any new, original, and ornamental design for an
article of manufacture. The word useful is critical in differentiating between utility patent and
design patent. Despite their cleverness and novelty, many design patents lack utility. The shapes or
ornamentations that make up a design do not necessarily perform any function or contribute to the
utility of the underlying article. Nevertheless, the design clearly can have commercial value
without having a functional aspect. For instance, the shape of a particular brand of a sippy cup lid
may influence purchasing decisions due to its familiarity or appeal.
It is important to note, however, that in Canada (and Europe), design patents are protected as
industrial design registrations (a separate form of IP).

Who I Am
Ramana Maharshi is known for his famous quote, Who am I? Not the body, because it is
decaying; not the mind, because the brain will decay with the body; not the personality, nor the
emotions, for these also will vanish with death (Quotes). This is a similar question almost
everyone at some point in their lives ask. Personally, my identity was a big issue during my
teenage years and I had a lot questions such as Who am I? Who do I belong to? I did not have
the answers at that time. Nevertheless, as life progressed, I was able to come across certain life
events, experiences and people who helped me to discover who I truly am I am a conqueror and
a legitimately strong woman. My parents, siblings and generally the people around me have
continually played a key role in helping me to discover myself. I know who my parents are, my
date of birth, I am an English speaker, I know most people around me, particularly my family, I
know they love me and I love them too. I have known my names, my weaknesses and strengths,
my emotions and learnt about myself majorly through my family. Everyone around me has had a
huge impact on my life and through interaction with them, I have been able to know what works
best for me and what does not. Through my family, I have been able to identify my origin, culture
and identity by taking interest in their ways of life. For example, I am a Catholic and I know
some of my weaknesses relate to my family members. Just like Amy Tan, who says, Lately,

Bail Laws ( Nsw )
Bail laws (NSW)
Bail has always been part of the common law system. In NSW, they have based their concept
from the Statue of Westminster I (1275), where there are different categories that separates who
are to be bailed or refused bail, which had become part of the Bail Act 1978 (NSW) and was
enforced from March 1980. Bail Act 2013 (NSW) is the only other law that replaced Bail Act 1978
(NSW), but was amended by Bail Amendment Act 2014 (NSW), which is the final replacement
coming into full effect in 28th January 2015.
In Section 4 of the Bail Act 1978, it states that authorisation to be at liberty under this Act, instead
of in custody . This is otherwise known as bail, the act of permitting a person to a brief period of
freedom who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the prosecution can provide sufficient reasoning of why bail cannot be granted, the assumption of
bail can be revoked.
Serious drug related offences can also disprove the presumption for bail and (likewise towards
aggressive offences) the accused must reason why bail should be permitted.
Issue and effect on individuals and society
Prior to 28th January 2015, bail laws posed significant loopholes in the system and are deemed to
be ineffective to achieve justice. Accused offenders may get away with bail based with evidence in
the case if it does not seem to pose a threat to the community. The problem persists within the
conditions set for their bail, as responsibility lies upon the magistrate or police to impose
appropriate conditions. However, though conditions do vary, it possesses a significant risk if the
conditions enforced were not strict enough, opening vulnerabilities for the accused to commit
another crime, slipping through their enforced conditions.
Yet not enough has been done to alert the community of this flaw, which thus continued to believe
that the criminal law system is protecting them. Effects are potentially dangerous, as individuals
would face the growing rate of criminal activity and with limited policing resources, not everyone
ensured to be protected in an unsafe suburban environment. If this issue continued to remain
unresolved in the long term, it would slowly corrupt society values, with more individuals

The Right Of Free Speech And Freedom Of Press
The right many Americans take for granted every day is the ability to speak to one another and
to express their opinions through verbal and non verbal means of communication. The First
Amendment provides the right of free speech and freedom of press to the people. The Bill of
Rights, also known as the first 10 amendments to the Constitution went into effect on Dec. 15,
1791, when the state of Virginia ratified it, giving the bill the majority of ratifying states required
to protect citizens from the power of the federal government. One must ask, why would such a
right need to be thought about for so long before enacting it for the people? Why has this never
been considered to be a universal right that every man and woman should have across the world?
Historically, in the development of Western Civilization and prior to the colonization of the
Eastern states by the British Monarchy, the British colonies were not even states yet, let alone
united. Neighboring countries Canada and Mexico were variously governed by the French
Canadians, where the French influence can be felt to this day, in places from Quebec to Montreal,
by the Spaniards in California, and the British in what is now British Columbia. Parts of California
and Texas were also under Spanish and Mexican occupation. What England, France, and Spain had
in common were monarchies as governments, with the King or Queen conflated with the Church as
ordained by God. The common people were peasants in a feudal

  • 2. Rhetorical Analysis Of Hillary Clinton s Speech Hillary Clinton spoke at the U.N. Fourth World Conference on Women. This speech was delivered on September fifth in Beijing, China. This conference promoted The Beijing Declaration and the Platform for Action, which aimed to provide equal rights to women across the globe (World, n. pag.). Clinton s speech promoting women s rights was successful because she established credibility, addressed the abusive treatment of women around the world, logically responded to that treatment, and provided an inspirational call to action. Clinton established ethos early on in her speech which supported her testimony at the conference. She opened her speech by saying, I would like to thank the Secretary General for inviting me to be part of this important United... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She declares, when families flourish, communities and nations do as well. That is why every woman, every man, every child, every family, and every nation on this planet does have a stake in the discussion that takes place here (n. pag.). She begins to conclude her speech with the unifying structure of family. To create a family, a woman must be present, each of those family compile to create communities, and communities create nations. She uses this to explain that women help form the base of all nations and therefore, the equal treatment of women will reflect prosperously on countries. This supported her argument because it appealed to the diplomats in the audience that can make changes in their various countries around the world. She brings her argument to a close with the following remarks, The time is now. We must move beyond rhetoric. We must move beyond recognition of problems to working together, to have the comment efforts to build that common ground we hope to see (n. pag.). This is successful for the closing of her argument because it specifically calls her audience to make bigger changes than what has previously been done. Speaking on inequality and putting laws into place that supports equality for all results in much different changes. She calls for her audience to join forces with others to truly make a difference in their own people s lives, as well as, those who live in other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sensitivity Analysis In general sensitivity analysis, the most influencing parameters are identified through building a statistical linear model, partial t test, and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Sensitivity analysis was conducted through Design of experiments (DoE) in order to determine the most influencing geological parameters on the Gas Assisted Gravity Drainage process performance. DoE combines multi level of each parameter to create many computer experiments evaluated by the compositional reservoir simulation to obtain the flow response factor. In this study, the parameters adopted for sensitivity analysis are horizontal permeability, anisotropy ratio $K_{v}/K_{h}$, and porosity, all given for the entire reservoir. Moreover, this fact can be also observed in Figure ~ref{fig:sa1lm} that decorates the component residual plots for each parameter. If a variable has a horizontal straight line of residual, it has no effect on the response and should be removed from the linear model, specifically the porosity variable. Figure ~ref{fig:sa1_lm} shows the basic diagnostic plots for the full linear model. The residuals vs. fitted plot is used to determine if the linear relationship between the predictors (parameters) and outcome factors are captured by the model. An accurate model will have a residuals vs. fitted plot with a horizontal line with residuals above and below it without forming a pattern or grouping, as seen in the top left plot. Moreover, the normal Q Q plot, shown in the top right plot, is used to determine if the residuals are normally distributed. A good normal distribution will have a normal Q Q plot which follows a straight line, as do our results. Furthermore, the Scale Location plot shows if the residuals are spread equally along all ranges of the predictors. Ideally, the residuals should be randomly spread across all fitted values and not tend to one area, as ours do in the bottom left plot. Likewise, the Residuals vs Leverage plot determines how big of an impact outliers points have on the regression curve. Additionally, outliers away from the Cook s distance will have a large ... Hazlitt begins his monumental book by describing the problems with economic science, showing that its fallacies are greatly exacerbated compared to other scientific fields because of special interests in government. The special interest groups consistently advocate policies that they benefit from at the expense of everyone else. Many people, however, believe these fallacies because of man s nature to see only the immediate effects of a given policy, or its effects only on a special group. Those people neglect the long termeffects and the implications on other groups by an economic policy. Hazlitt goes on to explain that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Considering the role of government in lending and the overlap on taxation, Private lenders are more stringent in their lending policies and, consequently, have to turn down some high risk borrowers. The government is willing to lend these borrowers the money they need for capital to carry out their businesses. These borrowers will then be able to acquire the resources they need to produce what they need. What is overlooked at this point is the fact that, because these high risk borrowers were able to get what could have been acquired by low risk borrowers from private lenders, the resources ended up in the hands of less efficient producers who may not be as productive as the producers who qualified for private lending. Furthermore, high risk borrowers get the money from the taxpayers and taxpayers can not fet benefit from this lending and this means the practice to the benefit of a few at the expense of everyone else. For the short term result, government lending can encourage entrepreneurship to create more GDP and bring benefit for the high risk borrowers. But for the long term result, high risk borrowers may not produce and use money efficiently when get money from the government. The worse is that this only benefit for special groups. • 7. Crim Mapping Crime Chapter Summary In chapter 2, Short discusses the many ways that maps have advanced over centuries. Without the satellites and technology that we have today, maps were first created from educated guesses. Some people thought the Earth was flat. Others believed that the universe revolved around the Earth. Although maps have not always had the accuracy that they do today, they have still played a large role in how we solve problems, especially when it comes to crime and public health. The latitude and longitude on a mapmay be able to tell us where a neighborhood is located, but it doesn t explain much about the area itself. Mapping crime began in France in the early 1800 s. It was first used to show where different types of crime were occurring. Throughout the years, mapping crime has advanced, giving law enforcement a visual of where crime occurs most frequently. These maps help detectives and police officers to understand crime. They have learned that crime is most likely to happen far enough from a criminal s home to not raise suspicion, but close enough that the criminals are still feels comfortable with the area. Full service brokers had made a request to market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to impose a minimum slab on the brokerage being charged by discount brokers. There is no difference between trading through a regular broker and a discount broker. There is still the old facility of call and trade. There is the new facility of mobile trading and online trading. 3. More high frequency trades The reduction of brokerage brings down the breakdown even. The intraday brokerage for discount brokerage is 0.01% or Rs.20, whichever is lower. So, in small trades, when a trader buys at 100.01 and sells at 100.05, he still makes profit. A flat tax system is a very simplified version of our current progressive tax system. One with no itemized deductions or credits, and increased personal exemption amounts. To increase savings and investments, the following types of income would be taxed at reduced rates, by allowing a 50% deduction, qualified interest and dividend income, long term capital gains, and retirement and Social Security. Another option would be a Cut, Balance and Grow system that would give taxpayers the choice to opt out of the current system and pay 20 percent on individual income and allow for a few of the deductions in the current code. The issue of school prayer is about whether the public school systems should let the students pray, at the start of the school day, as a class. The issue of school prayer began in the late sixteenth century when people in England did not approve of the way one religion was forced upon them, so the Puritans, known as the Pilgrims decided to come to the colonies. Prayer should allowed in the public school system because prayer is an important part of America s rich spiritual heritage. All throughout the history of America there have been many important documents written of our country that have references to Almighty God, Thy Blessings, and Our dependence upon Thee. These include: the Declaration of Independence, the Gettysburg Address, the national anthem, and the presidential oath (Haas, 1995, p. 39). In school students always say the pledge, which states, One Nation Under God. A prayer says that students just want to ask for a good day and guidance throughout the day. Not only do important documents of our country refer to God but also the words In God We Trust are engraved on all coins minted and bills pressed in the United States (1995, p. 39). There are two parts of the American tradition and they are prayer and religion (1995, p. 39). If society keeps prayer out of the public schools, they are teaching the students that traditions are not important and that what this country was founded upon does not matter. Does society want to raise a group of young people to disrespect what their forefathers wanted; religious freedom? The other twenty six states allow civil unions, and some are debating legalizing gay marriage. Gay marriage should be legal across the United States. That would be fun to watch! Again, such an argument fails to persuade based on the marriages society does allow routinely, without even a second thought. Same sex couples aren t the optimum environment in which to raise children. That s an interesting one, in light of who society does allow to get married and bring children into their marriage. Check it out: murderers, convicted felons of all sorts, even known child molesters are all allowed to freely marry and procreate, and do so every day, with hardly a second thought by these same critics. So if children are truly the priority here, why is this allowed? Why are the advocates of this argument not working to prohibit the above categories of people from raising children? The fact is that many gay couples raise children, adopted and occasionally their own from failed attempts at heterosexual marriages. Lots and lots of scientific studies have shown that the outcomes of the children raised in the homes of gay and lesbian couples are just as good as those of straight couples. Investors refer to people who willingly input money into a business with the expectations of a return in future. Normally, investors have an interest in all the ratios as they indicate the financial health of a firm. One of the most important ratios to potential investors is return on shareholders equity. The ratio measures the percentage return that investors get for every dollar of their investment in a company. Use of financial leverage has been known to lead to bankruptcy of companies hence the need to ensure that a business can pay back financing costs before making an investment. There are several other ratios that should be considered in an investment context including P/E ratio, debt to equity ratio, dividend yield and asset turnover ratio. P/E ratio indicates how much money an investor is willing to pay to acquire one unit of a company based on the earnings. The ratio is often indicates whether a company is overvalued or undervalued. From the nature of the island archetype we can see that C.G Jung created this for insight on a character which probably is a reason why many of today s origin stories model after this archetype. The Odyssey and the TV show Arrow were clearly made in seperate times, and although they have differences, the two stories share similarities, so just look at how the characters develop. Yes they develop at different times, but the way is basicly the same. The two Batman stories really show a difference, we see a major emotional change from a confident playboy millionaire to a angery almost murderer. Finally, we sum this up and see that the island archetype origin story is basically essential to a character s development. In 1948, the country of Israel was formally created. Technically speaking, this would be the origin of this conflict, but some scholars think it began earlier. They believe it was a result of the Jewish exiles in ancient times when the land was conquered by the Romans. The land was then taken over by Arabs, who are still found there today. Jews had several reasons for immigrating to Palestine. Firstly, in the late 19th century, Jews created a movement to migrate back to the Holy Land, ignoring the fact that the area was already occupied by Palestinians. As a result, conflicts over who had rights to the land arose. Great Britain was in control of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the main symbols of second rebirth is the ever present Oscar Holden record. The records symbolizes not only Henry and Keiko s relationship, but how it can be renewed. From when Henry and Keiko buy the record, to Henry finding it 40 years later, the record always has a strong significance in the book. Though not the first mention of the Oscar Holden record, the story of the vinyl started with Henry taking Keiko to the Black Elks Club. The book, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, shows many themes through a simple vinyl record. One important aspect of the record s meaning is rebirth, but it also stands for second chances, love, friendship, and of course, Henry and Keiko. The Birthday Party Analysis CHAPTER 1 COMEDY OF MENACE: FORMS OF REPRESENTATION When Pinter s first professionally produced play, The Birthday Party was staged in London in 1958, it faced such severe criticism from reviewers and critics that the play was taken off stage after a week s run. The reviewers rejected the play on grounds that it was obscure, baffling and enigmatic. Darlington, a critic of the Daily Telegraph remarked, it turned out to be one of those plays in which an author wallows in symbols and revels in obscurity (20 May 1958). An anonymous Times critic wrote, Mr. Harold Pinters effects are neither comic nor terrifying: they are never more than puzzling and after a little while we tend to give up the puzzle in despair (20 May 1958). M. W. W in the Manchester Guardian commented, ...although the author must have explained his play to the cast, he gives no clues to the audience . . . What [it all] means, only Mr. Pinter knows, for as his characters speak in non sequiturs, half gibberish and lunatic ravings, they are unable to explain their actions, thoughts or feelings (May 21, 1958). On receiving such negative reviews of the play, Pinter was so disheartened that he almost decided to stop writing plays. Sometimes it is done subconsciously; sometimes it is done on purpose. People judge one another based on unimportant things, and get judged based on those same things as well. Two cultures were used to amplify how different their cultures were from one another. He also threatened to have the INS check out the Behrani family, and pull strings if necessary to get the Behranis out of the house, even though the Behrani family had full U.S. citizenship at that point. These judgments passed out by both cultures show that all cultures function using judgment. In the reading The Case for Contamination, Appiah states that some people like and some people don t like that certain cultures have accepted being able to get a discussion going about Ronaldo, Mike Tyson or Tupac, and being able to find a bottle of Guinness or Coca Cola, (paragraph 9). Many people judge people who have accepted western civilizations, considering their identities threatened. Different cultures possess different ideas of how people should present themselves. Pear Tree Analysis Emely Gonzalez Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston AP Literature Pd.3 Topic 3 All forms of life commence as a seed, hoping to grow into a mature tree with a solid foundation, firm limbs, and distinctive leaves. In order to reach desired growth, one must be watered with the earth s nutrients and acquire the sun s vital rays. These paramount provisions symbolize nurture, independent or parental, and allows an individual to learn, experience, to flourish. The trunk of the tree, our flows, links to the branches, our paths and experiences. The leaves are a series of encounters with people or situations, and it illustrates the idea that we are constantly meeting different individuals who leave little or great impact in our lives and we constantly go through episodes that help define who we are. There is a frequency of these occurrences, they come and go like the leaves do as the seasons change. Ultimately, a tree is a metaphor of life, one that ideally depicts the journey of Janie, the protagonist in Their Eyes Were Watching Godby Zora Neale Hurston. Throughout the novel, she is compared to a pear tree, and as it matures, she is struck with the repercussions of poor decisions and the inevitability of change which begins to transform Janie and disintegrate the tree. • 26. Primary Endosymbiosis Endosymbiosis is one of the most fascinating concepts we have covered so far. I have heard it said that if our extremely distant ancestor microbe had never engulfed that first mitochondria, life as we know it would not exist, and it seems to me that is probably true. As explained by Avissar et al., at some point around 3.5 billion years ago there was very little molecular oxygen in Earth s atmosphere (2016). Prokaryotes called cyanobacteria evolved to use sunlight as an energy source to break down carbon dioxide. These early prokaryotes were engulfed by other organisms, the earliest of the eukaryotes, in a process called primary endosymbiosis. Such cyanobacteria are still evident in the plastids found in modern eukaryotic plant cells. Their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second important endosymbiotic event occurred as a result, in the acquisition of mitochondria by the earliest eukaryotes (Avissar et al., 2016). Mitochondria are responsible for aerobic cellular respiration in eukaryotic cells, and for a long time it was believed that they were simply organelles. But much like plastids in photoreactive eukaryotes, the evidence points to mitochondria having been absorbed by early eukaryotes, forming a symbiotic relationship in which the larger cell protected the smaller and provided a ready source of nutrients, and in turn the mitochondria allowed the larger cells to process all of the new molecular oxygen as an energy source to promote glycolysis (Cooper, 2000). Another strong piece of evidence that points to plastids and mitochondria having once been distinct organisms from their eukaryotic hosts is the fact that unlike other cell organelles, they contain their own DNA and reproduce independently (though in sync with) their host cells (Avissar et al., 2016). This was first observed when a biologist noticed that mitchondria seem to move on their own, independent of the host cell s movement. Clearly this arrangement has been a winning one, since the results of these kinds of endosymbiosis have persisted and evolved for billions of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Underground Man Analysis Dostoevsky s Underground Man is quite possibly the most interesting anti hero in all of literature. His unique worldview has both shocked and puzzled readers since the novella s publication. One of his key characteristics is his tendency towards paradox, especially concerning doubt, shame, and spitefulness. These paradoxes seem to reflect his era, of which he is often critical to the point of exhaustion. Other features of the Underground Man s psyche mirror the nineteenth century as well. For example, his anomie is a result of his life as a clerk in (then) modern Saint Petersburg. The Underground Man s true self may be shrouded by mystery, but it is clear that he is either telling us that he lives in all of us through our experiences with alienation, or that if we were anywhere near as self aware as he is, we would live underground as well. One of the most apparent themes in Notes from Undergroundis shame. The famous opening lines, I am a sick man.... I am a spiteful man. I am a most unpleasant man. set the tone for the rest of the book (707). These are clearly not the words of a person who holds themselves in very high regard. The Underground Man s shame goes beyond self deprecation as a human. At one point, he admits that he had wished to become an insect many times (709). Imagery of pests and vermin continues later on when the Underground Man writes about his propensity for dwelling on the past. He compares himself to a mouse, who retreats to a hole each night to go over the day s shortcomings. The forty year old narrator says of the mouse: For forty years on end it will recall its insult down to the last, most shameful detail; and each time it will add more shameful details of its own, spitefully teasing and irritating itself with its own fantasy (712). The section continues like this for a considerable length. The significance of the passage lies in that not only does the Underground Man compare himself to a mouse, but it is a shame filled mouse that dwells on the past, twisting the truth just as he does in his writings. The psychological root of this shame is defined by the Underground Man on page 709, where he writes, I swear to you, gentlemen, that being overly conscious is a disease, a ... Without it, there is confusion, resentment, and a blurry vision for the direction the company wants to go. In order to ensure there is successful communication amongst the managers and its employees of the firm, a communication contract should be created. This contract establishes ethical communicationand rules for which each individual is to follow when communicating with others. Aside from creating excellent communication within the firm, the communication contract creates long lasting benefits for the firm and creates a solid foundation. Other communication strategies may create short term profits but do not have the long lasting benefits of an ethical communication contract. The communication contract I would propose to the firm I work for would have six clauses. They would be the immunity clause, the respect clause, the need for change clause, the switched roles clause, the bottom up clause, and the key focus clause. The immunity clause stipulates that anything said or brought about is done so without any consequence. The motivation behind this clause is that too many good suggestions or ideas or constructive criticisms are held back because employees fear that they will be reprimanded or even lose their job because of the criticism. With the immunity clause employees can share their true feelings and critiques and that will be honored rather than rebuked. A companion to the immunity clause is the respect ... The purpose of this essay is to discuss the three main effects that living in another country can produce in your personal life. The major effect, and also a very common one, is that once you start a regular life away from home, you miss everything. This fact doesn t mean that you are unhappy but that you are aware of being on your own. Missing your family and the attention they all paid to you is a very usual thing to do. The second main effect would be learning how to accept another type of society and culture into your daily life. Since you are living in a place with different customs and traditions from yours, you have to be able to develop yourself in unknown conditions. This means making new friends, learning other points of view, accepting different opinions and values, and seizing every opportunity you have to go to new places. Therefore, you ll be able to achieve true knowledge. Suggesting to change your mind totally or to be square minded would be foolish; the best thing to do would be to stick to your most important values and, according to them, change those that you believe could be improved. The most significant effect of living away from home is the independent behavior that grows inside of you. Living on your own far from your family gives you a lot of experiences toward organizing your life. Since it is up to you and no one else to go to school, clean your room, wash your clothes, and organize your expenses, it is predictable that you will have a good and strong meaning of responsibility. • 37. Essay on The Evil of Capitalism The Evil of Capitalism An obsession of any kind is usually unhealthy, but obsession with money can destroy the soul. Karl Marx believed that human activity is paralyzed by the capitalist system. To be sure, the all encompassing passion for wealth and power is unchristian, but is all capitalism evil? If the answer were yes, then abandoning capitalism, with its central goal of profit, would seem to be an obvious solution to the social ills of mankind. Of course, eliminating capitalism is not the answer. The fact is that capitalism, based on free competition without deception or fraud, can lead to justly obtained profits, while serving the common good. Consider the entrepreneurs Eli Whitney, John Deere and Henry Ford, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The John Echlin Foundation, for example, is one major contributor to The Hospital of Saint Raphael, in New Haven, Connecticut. Firms not only built and funded many hospitals and schools, but they essentially created such national nonprofit organizations as the YMCA. Companies created hospitals in areas where their employees lived, so future workforces would be healthy. They funded community chests devoted to social, educational, and recreational amenities for employees, and even gave money to employees churches so that their spiritual needs would be met. Railroad companies built a system of YMCAs to give itinerant employees a place to stay the night and get a hot meal. These expenditures were relatively easy to defend to directors and shareholders, because the connection between them and the profits of the business were clear. Amoco Foundation executive director Patricia Wright put it, anyone involved in the corporate world knows that it is necessary to have a strong strategic link between charitable giving and the corporation s bottom line (Hood 20). The nature of corporate giving has changed through the years. During the 1950s and 1960s outside directors of foundations, made decisions on the basis of social and humanitarian issues, not corporate goals. • 38. The Patent Of Patent And Design Patent 1a) A patent is a new invention, or any new and useful improvement of an existing invention. The patent owner has an exclusive right, in which the invention can normally only be exploited (manufactured, used, sold, imported) by the owner. An invention may relate to a product or process. There is, however, an important distinction between a utility patentand a design patent. A utility patent protects the functional aspects of an invention; a design patent protects only the appearance of an invention and not its structure or utilitarian features. Moreover, a utility patent covers any process, machine, article of manufacture, or composition of matter, or any new and useful improvements thereof. A design patent covers any new, original, and ornamental design for an article of manufacture. The word useful is critical in differentiating between utility patent and design patent. Despite their cleverness and novelty, many design patents lack utility. The shapes or ornamentations that make up a design do not necessarily perform any function or contribute to the utility of the underlying article. Nevertheless, the design clearly can have commercial value without having a functional aspect. For instance, the shape of a particular brand of a sippy cup lid may influence purchasing decisions due to its familiarity or appeal. It is important to note, however, that in Canada (and Europe), design patents are protected as industrial design registrations (a separate form of IP). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Who I Am Ramana Maharshi is known for his famous quote, Who am I? Not the body, because it is decaying; not the mind, because the brain will decay with the body; not the personality, nor the emotions, for these also will vanish with death (Quotes). This is a similar question almost everyone at some point in their lives ask. Personally, my identity was a big issue during my teenage years and I had a lot questions such as Who am I? Who do I belong to? I did not have the answers at that time. Nevertheless, as life progressed, I was able to come across certain life events, experiences and people who helped me to discover who I truly am I am a conqueror and a legitimately strong woman. My parents, siblings and generally the people around me have continually played a key role in helping me to discover myself. I know who my parents are, my date of birth, I am an English speaker, I know most people around me, particularly my family, I know they love me and I love them too. I have known my names, my weaknesses and strengths, my emotions and learnt about myself majorly through my family. Everyone around me has had a huge impact on my life and through interaction with them, I have been able to know what works best for me and what does not. Through my family, I have been able to identify my origin, culture and identity by taking interest in their ways of life. For example, I am a Catholic and I know some of my weaknesses relate to my family members. Just like Amy Tan, who says, Lately, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Bail Laws ( Nsw ) Bail laws (NSW) Bail has always been part of the common law system. In NSW, they have based their concept from the Statue of Westminster I (1275), where there are different categories that separates who are to be bailed or refused bail, which had become part of the Bail Act 1978 (NSW) and was enforced from March 1980. Bail Act 2013 (NSW) is the only other law that replaced Bail Act 1978 (NSW), but was amended by Bail Amendment Act 2014 (NSW), which is the final replacement coming into full effect in 28th January 2015. In Section 4 of the Bail Act 1978, it states that authorisation to be at liberty under this Act, instead of in custody . This is otherwise known as bail, the act of permitting a person to a brief period of freedom who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the prosecution can provide sufficient reasoning of why bail cannot be granted, the assumption of bail can be revoked. Serious drug related offences can also disprove the presumption for bail and (likewise towards aggressive offences) the accused must reason why bail should be permitted. Issue and effect on individuals and society Prior to 28th January 2015, bail laws posed significant loopholes in the system and are deemed to be ineffective to achieve justice. Accused offenders may get away with bail based with evidence in the case if it does not seem to pose a threat to the community. The problem persists within the conditions set for their bail, as responsibility lies upon the magistrate or police to impose appropriate conditions. However, though conditions do vary, it possesses a significant risk if the conditions enforced were not strict enough, opening vulnerabilities for the accused to commit another crime, slipping through their enforced conditions. Yet not enough has been done to alert the community of this flaw, which thus continued to believe that the criminal law system is protecting them. Effects are potentially dangerous, as individuals would face the growing rate of criminal activity and with limited policing resources, not everyone ensured to be protected in an unsafe suburban environment. If this issue continued to remain unresolved in the long term, it would slowly corrupt society values, with more individuals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Right Of Free Speech And Freedom Of Press The right many Americans take for granted every day is the ability to speak to one another and to express their opinions through verbal and non verbal means of communication. The First Amendment provides the right of free speech and freedom of press to the people. The Bill of Rights, also known as the first 10 amendments to the Constitution went into effect on Dec. 15, 1791, when the state of Virginia ratified it, giving the bill the majority of ratifying states required to protect citizens from the power of the federal government. One must ask, why would such a right need to be thought about for so long before enacting it for the people? Why has this never been considered to be a universal right that every man and woman should have across the world? Historically, in the development of Western Civilization and prior to the colonization of the Eastern states by the British Monarchy, the British colonies were not even states yet, let alone united. Neighboring countries Canada and Mexico were variously governed by the French Canadians, where the French influence can be felt to this day, in places from Quebec to Montreal, by the Spaniards in California, and the British in what is now British Columbia. Parts of California and Texas were also under Spanish and Mexican occupation. What England, France, and Spain had in common were monarchies as governments, with the King or Queen conflated with the Church as ordained by God. The common people were peasants in a feudal ...
