The Role Of Media And Its Impact On Emergency Management
Media s Role in Disasters
The following is a research paper on the role of the media in disasters. This paper will highlight the
various types of media and their impact on emergency management today. It will compare and
contrast the negative and positive roles the media plays in a disaster. It will then examine the positive
and negative roles the media plays in disasters and how this is relevant to emergency management.
The concluding section of the paper will highlight the various types of media and their impact on
emergency management today.
Positive Roles the Media Plays in A Disaster Communication is a core component of disaster
planning, response, and recovery (Houston, et al., 2015). An effective disaster communication process

During a disaster, the media helps in alerting and communicating evacuation procedures for
individuals in the disaster zone. They also help in updating the public as the relief and evacuation
process progresses. Information regarding available disaster relief facilities and the needs of the
victims can be conveyed through the media (Ghassabi Firoozeh, 2015). After the disaster, encouraging
humanitarian aids from people, organizations and Non governmental organizations can be performed
by the media. They could also follow up the rebuilding process, supervise the budget spending in the
disaster area and help to identify the weaknesses of the disaster management process in an effort to
prevent or better handle future disasters (Ghassabi Firoozeh, 2015).
In most cases, the news media provides an important disaster management public service, using
platforms like broadcasting alerts, warnings, and advisories. The media can also provide information
to decision makers in the event of an emergency (FEMA, 1999). Government agencies may also rely
on the media to supply information and direction to the affected public, yet withholding
counterproductive information, and to stimulate volunteerism and donations from the public (FEMA,
1999). Crowdsourcing social media applications, offer a powerful capability for the collection of
information form disaster scenes and visualizing the data needed for relief decision making. Hence, in

Hindrance In The Civil Rights Movement
Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity. That
famous quote was spoken by Martin Luther King, who was a Civil Rights Movement leader. The Civil
Rights movement was a movement that was led by many African Americans and the goal of the
movement was to end legal racial segregation. Moreover, there was much ignorance shown by white
authorities when there was an African American boycotting to prove a point. Therefore, it has been in
the Supreme Court s hands many times to impact Civil Rights: Loving v. Virginia, Swann v. Charlotte
Mecklenburg Board of Education, and Regents of the University of California v. Bakke ( Martin
Luther King, Jr. Quotes at BrainyQuote.com ). In the Loving v. Virginia ... Show more content on

Virginia, Swann v. Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education, and Regents of the University of
California v. Bakke. In Loving v. Virginia, Virginia enacted a law that prohibited marriage between a
black and white person. They would get get punished if they did. The Supreme Court overturned that
law to preserve marriage as a fundamental right. In Swann v. Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of
Education, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education was the first school board trying to
desegregate, especially using busing with all races. The Supreme Court s judgement was to hope it
would be a fine experience. So this is the first district to try to stop the schools harass African
Americans. The Regents of the University of California v. Bakke case was when a white student was
denied admission to a medical school despite the student that made it had worse scores than him. He
was put in because of a quota system. Therefore, the Supreme Court new that it was unfair that he
makes the school with an immediate guarantee. They said that they couldn t use quota systems based
on race. Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend is one of the most

How Did Harry S. Truman American Disliked
Harry S. Truman was actually disliked by many during his presidency. Franklin D. Roosevelt was one
of the most popular presidents ever in American history, so people mainly disliked Truman for not
being Roosevelt. Many also did not support him as he couldn t boost the economy quickly, but overall,
the transition of military to consumer goods is a long process and would have been hard for any
president. He also fired General MacArthur during the Korean War conflict since he disagreed with
the bombing of China. Truthfully, it was probably just bad timing for Truman to succeed as the
president as the main cause of the hate on him. Truman had to make some very crucial decisions as
soon as he had stepped into office as President. He contributed

Ethics Of Care-Giver
Ethics of care is to maintain relationships by compromise and accommodation for the well being of a
care givers and care receivers in a network of social relations. The meaning of care involves meeting
the needs of ourselves and others. Which refers to the ideas of concerning both the nature of morality
and normative ethical theory. But does this mean that the care receiver does exactly what the care
giver desires in all situations? What if I keep the money instead of returning it back? Then I wouldn t
have to work twenty hours a week. And I will be able to focus in school better because I m not

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Hydrocolubic Solubility
HYDROTROPIC SOLUBILIZATION [23][24] [25][26] Use of Additives may increase or decrease
the solubility of a solute in a given solvent. The effect of an additive depends very much on the
influence: it has on the structure of water or its ability to compete with solvent of water molecules. A
convenient quantitation result of the solute additive on the solubility of another solute may be obtained
by Setschenowequation.
Log S0/S = KCa where S = solubility in the presence of additive
Ca = additive concentration

3.4 ADVANTAGES OF MIXED HYDROTROPIC SOLUBILISATION The advantages of mixed
hydrotropic solubilisation are as similar to hydrotropic solubilisation. One more advantage is that to
reduce the concentration of individual hydrotropic agent and minimize their toxicity of individual
hydrotropic agent.
3.5 MIXED SOLVENCY [31][32][33] Maheshwarihave proposed the concept of mixed solvency. His
opinion is that all substances whether liquids, gases or solids is solubilizing powder and hence
concentrated aqueous solution containing various dissolved substances can also improve the solubility
of poorly water soluble drugs. Melted (temperature less than 100 ºC), PEG 400, PEG 6000 and PEG
8000 dissolves diclofenac sodium (melting point: 283 ºC). This also shows that melted PEGs act as
solvent for diclofenac sodium. Melted urea (M.P.: 132 135 ºC) dissolves diclofenac sodium (M.P.:
283ºC). This shows that melted urea act as solvent for diclofenac sodium. Melted ibuprofen
(M.P.:78ºC) dissolves diclofenac sodium (M.P.:283ºC), salicylic acid (M.P.:159ºC) and
niacinamide(M.P.:132ºC), which another time shows that melted ibuprofen act as solvent for

The Chrysanthemums And The Storm
The Chrysanthemums vs. The Storm
The Storm , was written by Kate Chopin, who was a feminist writer who insinuated that women had
an unspoken sexual appetite and longed for independence. She wrote stories that were considerably
taboo of her time, including The Storm , which was about a woman in a content marriage, longing for
attention and excitement who leans on another man for it. On the other end of the American literature
spectrum, there is John Steinbeck, who was also a feminist writer. Steinbeck wrote the short story The
Chrysanthemums about a woman s brief extramarital sexual encounter during a storm. Steinbeck
understood the struggles of women of his time, sympathizing with them and ultimately becoming a
voice for them. The Chrysanthemums and The Storm both have similarities in terms of subject, gender
roles, and influences which amplify how normal these stories taboos , really were and still are today.
Kate Chopin The Storm examines the subject of gender roles and the challenging of the though the use
of strong characters. In the story you see the underlining gender roles between the main character
Calixta and her husband Bobint. While Bobint and their son Bibi goes out to the store to get shrimp,
Calixta stays home to sew and to cater to the house. This is evident in Chopin s text when Bobint and
Bibi cleans up their appearance before entering the house to dodge any lecturing from Calixta,
prepared for the worst meeting with an over scrupulous

After completing the interviews of my subjects and compiling my results, some interesting trends
emerge. Firstly, both of the subjects who identified themselves as Southerners were against the
removal of the Confederate monuments. Both subjects argued that the monuments were an important
part of American history and that they were primarily examples of Southern heritage. Another
correlation that was unsurprising was that every subject who saw Confederate monuments as symbols
of Southern prejudice supported the removal of the monument. The results showed no clear difference
between the answers of students and the answers of teachers. Also, surprisingly, the political
affiliations of the subjects did not seem to have a clear correlation with

Specialty Chemicals From Pyrolysis of Waste Tire Rubber: A Business Risk Assessment Professional
Science Masters of Applied Physical Science Georgia Southern University Meredith C. Smoak April
17, 2015 Abstract This report describes the internship I collaborated with Amiare, LLC, a new startup
company. Amiare, LLC, through a patented pyrolysis technology, produces a universal paraffin
dispersant which is utilized in the oil and gas industry for enhanced oil recovery and tank bottom
cleaning. The overall objective of the internship with Amiare, LLC was to conduct qualitative
research, document, and present findings regarding the competitive landscape for a new entrant in the
product and service market for chemical treatment of oilfields with reduced or minimal productivity
due to the presence and buildup of paraffins and asphaltenes. The rise in crude oil production drives
demand for asphaltene and paraffin inhibitors while creating risks identifiable with market entries into
the Enhanced Oil Recovery industry. I suggest some qualitative elements from the work of Bruce
Merrifield* to help guide my preliminary risk assessment to determine the merit for further
quantitative investigation. Introduction Crude oil extractions have been growing continuously
worldwide over the years. The challenges for crude oil producers in controlling asphaltene and
paraffin deposition in reservoir storage and processing are parallel with the ever increasing rise in

Explain Why Some Presenters Avoid Eye Contact
Why do some presenters avoid eye contact? How does that make you feel as an audience member?
Some presenters avoid making eye contact during their presentation because of the following reasons:
Presenters who don t know their content avoid eye contact because they lack confidence that they can
deliver their speech successfully. They feel nervous for not being fully prepared and any negative
reaction from the audience will make them feel more uneasy.
Presenters who memorize their presentation avoid eye contact because they don t like to see any
negative expressions from the audience that might make them lose focus and forget what they are
about to say. Staring at the ceiling or wall helps them to concentrate and remembers what they need

College Station Area Is The Huge Inconvenience Of The...
One of the more dominant problems within the Bryan, College Station area, is the extensive amount of
flooding that takes place every year. Whenever it rains, the town and a large number of major areas
gets engulfed by uncontrollable amounts of water. The streets and roadways get backed up with so
much excess water that they must close off certain parts of town to ensure the safety of the people who
live there. Flooding in Bryan, College Station is an enormous inconvenience to the people who live
there. This issue can be solved by simply collecting more tax money, fixing the drainage system, and
by coming up with procedures or regulations for future constructions, so people can build their new
establishments on higher grounds. It has been stated by the Weather Channel that, In June of 2016, the
Brazos River crested just over 4 feet above its previous record flood stage at Richmond, Texas (Tom
Moore). Beings that Collage Station is located in a Bryan Valley, the area is mostly flat terrain with
occasional hills and slow absorbing soil, packed with large amounts of establishments that can easily
become prone to flooding. During the times of intense rain, the water builds up and exceeds the limit
for drainage in the area. Bridges, roads, walkways, and parking lots, get engulfed with the water,
making it impossible to get through. Highway 6, near College Station, is one of the major roads that
people use to commute from place to place, and to get home, when it closed down to

many cases, infinite backgrounds, and too many sad stories of those related to the victims or the
killers. If only there were a solution to identify the steps to murder, so people could stop and treat

3 years after Columbine, the Secret Service found that 78% of killers have a history of attempted
suicide or suicidal thoughts (Cullen). An example of a suicidal murderer is Eric Harris, co conspirator
and executor of the mass shooting at Columbine. He was suicidal, and wrote journal entries like this
one: Such a sad, desolate, lonely unsalvageable I feel I am. Not fair, NOT FAIR!!! I wanted
happiness!! I never got it!!! Let s sum up my life, the most miserable existence in the history of time
(Cullen). Most depressed people start by blaming themselves, but then the blame shifts outward. They
typically blame their ex girlfriend, boss, or classmates, but mass murderers blame society, and they
become willing to show a devastating example, make them pay, and die in the process. In the killer s
mind, it is a win win (Cullen). Harris thoughts began to shift, and when he was about to devastate
Columbine, he had this to say: In 26.5 hours I ll be dead, and in happiness. The little zombie human
fags will know their errors and be forever suffering and mournful. HAHAHA (Cullen). The next day
he and Klebold did the damage they set out to do, and Eric Harris life ended soon after. The suicidally
depressed killers have the notorious phrase If I go down, you re going with me imprinted in their head,
and they have proved that they can use that phrase in real life, to the horror of everyone

Racial Prejudice And Stereotypes
Stereotypes are generalized, usually negative, but sometimes positive, beliefs about a group of people.
Prejudice unjustifiably applies stereotypes to a singe member of the group based on their association
with that group. Everyone has different amounts of prejudice, and though most people will not admit
to being prejudiced, every single person is prejudiced to some degree. Prejudice can exist at two
different levels, an implicit and an explicit level. Though most people will deny any explicit
prejudices, everyone harbors implicit prejudices. Research has shown that people who deny racial
prejudice often make negative associations known as implicit racial associations. One cause of
negative racial associations is ingroup bias. Since the beginning of time, people have felt the need to
belong to certain groups, which lead to prejudice by splitting people into us and them, us being the
ingroup, and them being the outgroup. The ingroup, or us, are people who share a common identity,
and the outgroup, or them, is anyone who does not share this identity or belong to the same group.
Ingroup bias develops shortly after identifying ingroups and outgroups. Prejudice is something that is
very prevalent in everyday life. One example of prejudice that has been big recently is the prejudice
white law enforcement officers have against African Americans. It has been proven that African
Americans are more than twice as likely to be shot by law enforcement officers

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ( Ptsd )
PTSD in Catcher in the Rye Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is most commonly thought of as an illness
men and women acquire from experiences while serving in the wars. Some do not even know what it
is or how much it affects people s lives. In the novel, The Catcher in the Rye, J.D. Salinger helps to
convey what Post Traumatic Stress Disorder really is. PTSD is a curable condition triggered by a
traumatic event with many types, causes, and symptoms displayed by Holden Caulfield.
All of the people who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder have described the events causing
this condition as frightening and stressful. PTSD develops in about 1 in 3 people who experience
severe trauma ( Post traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Causes ). It is a common disorder and different
people come upon it in a variety of ways. In most cases, events responsible for Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder occur in the person s early life and in people who have a history of mental illnesses such as
depression or anxiety. Also, most patients have always had trouble coping with tragedies and do not
have very much support around the time of the trauma ( Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) ).
This condition can develop in different amounts of time following the situation, depending on the
person. It can begin immediately after, weeks, months, or even years later ( Post traumatic Stress
Disorder (PTSD) Causes ). Examples of the causes entail witnessing violent deaths, sexual abuse,

The Winding Stair And Other Poems
As Professor Pethica points out, the volume The Winding Stair and Other Poems is extraordinary
because its textual history is particularly elaborate, even by Yeats s standards. Although I would love
to explore the relationship between different editions, as we did when we talked about different
editions of Wilde Swans at Coole, the task is too huge to be tackled sufficiently in this paper. In order
to preclude any ambiguity, I would like to clarify that whenever I use the title The Winding Stair and
Other Poems in this paper, unless otherwise specified, I am referring to the last edition published in
1933. Since the early stage of Yeats s career, the poet has been concerned with mortality. The poet
seems to suggest that art is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Losing all touch with the finer consciousness of the age it would be, not only irresponsible, but anemic
(Foster, 441). In the poem Three movements, the poet observes that Shakespearean fish swam the sea,
far away from land; / Romantic fish swam in nets coming to the hand; / What are all those fish that lie
gasping on the strand? (Finneran, 240) Yeats is neither detached Shakespearean fish, nor credulous
Romantic fish; he is the fish that lie gasping on the strand, and the volume The Winding Stair and
Other Poems is his struggle with the crisis of his age, both the age of the poet (nearly 70 at the time)
and the age of the world (1930s). We have talked a lot about Yeats s dialectical effort to transcend
mortality and achieve immortality in his poetry. Such effort to transcend mortality presupposes the
dichotomy between life and death. Indeed, in previous volumes, may concepts are contingent upon a
symmetrically opposing idea: the symbol of the Mask presupposes the dichotomy between self and
anti self, and many of Yeats s poems feature the dichotomy between female and male. However, in the
volume The Winding Stair and Other Poems, Yeats points out a simple yet fundamental fact, that these
dichotomies are all human constructs. In the poem Vacillation, the speaker solemnly observes that
Between extremities / Man runs his course (Finneran, 250). The most important dichotomy that Yeats
inspects in this volume is the one between life and death. The poet points

The Main Features Of Information Management
01 The need to manage information and knowledge within organisations
1.1 Outline the main features of information management
Information management (IM) is the collection and management of information from one or more
sources and the distribution of that information to one or more audiences; is also particularly critical to
businesses that work in conjunction with other businesses, so the two must share information with, or
transfer information to, each other. In addition, businesses with more than one department or unit can
use the MIS to compile information in one central location, thereby preventing information loss.
1.2 Explain the relationship between data, information and knowledge
The relationship between data, information, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knowledge can refer to a theoretical or practical understanding of a subject. It can be tacit (as with
practical skill or expertise) or explicit (as with the theoretical understanding of a subject); it can be
more or less formal or systematic. Botha et al (2008) pointed out that tacit and explicit knowledge
should be seen as a spectrum rather than as definitive points. Therefore, in practice, all knowledge is a
mixture of tacit and explicit elements rather than being one or the other. The most important
distinction within KM is between explicit and tacit knowledge. The overload of data is making
knowledge management increasingly more important as it facilitates decision making capabilities;
builds learning organizations by making learning routine, and stimulates cultural change and
innovation.
1.4 Analyse the benefits that information and knowledge management brings to organisations
To get sustainable competitive advantage, the significant role of knowledge management has been
explored. Knowledge management causes companies core competencies to become stronger.
Therefore, competitive advantage has been more sustainable. Knowledge management is perceived as
the development of organizing the intangible asset of a firm. The economic and production level of a
company relies more on its brainpower, human capital and invisible competences than its physical
assets. The function of each business relies upon the knowledge of its human capital.

Persuasive Essay On Nuclear Energy
In today s America, fossil fuels continue to be the top producers of energy across the nation.
Renewable energies, however, are starting to become cheaper, more efficient, and more practical as
the need to fight climate change becomes a greater issue everyday. Renewable energies such as solar,
hydropower, and wind are making an expeditious growth in the United States. One of the largest
producers of renewable energy in the United States is Nuclear Power, which is the largest producer out
of the aforementioned renewable energies. It continues to be a safe, cheap, and viable option for
energy production, yet public opinion causes it to be less favorable to wind, solar, and others due to
perceived risks. On March 11th of 2011, an earthquake and tsunami in Japan caused the Fukushima
power plant to meltdown and release dangerous radiation into the environment and completely destroy
the plant. Before this incident, public support for nuclear under Barack Obama, who was advocating
increased production for nuclear power as it s a clean energy, was at 71%.1 The most recent nuclear
meltdown was the Three Mile Island incident in 1979, located in Harrisburg Pennsylvania, which was
becoming a fading memory in the public s mind. 2 In the aftermath of the Fukushima plant meltdown,
the world became increasingly anxious about nuclear energy. Nonetheless, even with the renewed
fears of nuclear power, production of new plants would continue in East Asia, India and the Middle
East would

Love And Love In Shakespeare s Sonnet 130
Shakespeare wrote many sonnets about love, largely in a traditional sense. However, his 130th sonnet
takes a different theme: a relationship that is found through true friendship and love despite physical
beauty standards. Shakespeare uses contrasting values, natural and divine imagery and contradictory
statements to show that love is much more than just physical attraction.
Sonnet #130 is filled with nature imagery: Shakespeare mentions the sun, coral, snow and roses, all
things that are largely deemed beautiful by society both then and now. In these images, he paints the
idea of what a beautiful woman should look like, how the woman he thinks of loving looks like she s
from a fairy tale. The nature images are described as being absent from the woman Shakespeare loves,
rather than being given an opposite, implying that the woman he loves is by no means someone he
cannot love or look upon. Though many interperet the mistress of this sonnet to be an ugly woman due
to some other lines of the poem, this absence of an opposite seems to suggest otherwise: she is not an
ethereal beauty, simply a normal, plain looking woman who the sonnet s speaker loves despite how
she may look.
Shakespeare uses more imagery in this sonnet than just things found in nature. Though there are only
two instances of it, he also uses imagery of the divine. It occurs once in the last quatrain ( I grant I
never saw a goddess go ), and once in the poem s final couplet ( And yet, by heaven, I think my

as well as common social norms. Although this is a strange concept to grasp, this phenomenon is how
society acts as a whole and how we as individuals are. Social norms are ways of acting, thinking, and
feeling that exist outside a person but exert social control over each person they interact with. These
are the rules that we abide by and are ingrained in our heads but what happens if one breaks that social
norm.
The film Cool Hand Luke expresses the idea of breaking social norms. Lucas Jackson, a former
military man who refuses to conform to the rules that the guards give to him, is sent to a prison due to
some misdemeanors that he does in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Luke fights the power by escaping the prison in every opportunity that he has even
though the guards warned him and has experienced the consequences including the box, this displays
how, because he thought saw that the prison guards were oppressing him he went and did the opposite
of what they asked of him. Moreover, Luke displays his conflict perspective in the scene where they
are tarring the roads. One of the prisoners states this is a big day for the guards. They get to remind us
[who is] boss but Luke goes against the guard s instructions and makes it a race finishing the road
quickly therefore going against the control power. Luke is labeled as a savior to the other prisoners
and believes that he has to go against the guards and escape the prison to give the others hope.
Furthermore, in relation to the Labeling Theory, which defines something as a crime or a deviance,
there are those in power creating the laws and those who enforce them such as the police and
penitentiaries. This theory explains how people who are in a higher position are the ones who decide
on what is deviant and what is not therefore oppressing them and people like Luke that follow the
conflict perspective and believe that following norms will benefit the powerful, which increase the

What Makes A Wearable Health Technology Product That Our...
Being part of the extremely competitive and constantly evolving textiles, apparel luxury goods
industry requires us to constantly strive to be innovative. We must frequently analyze the market, its
trends, and all relevant information that can inform us of opportunities and threats that apply to our
industry (Textiles, Apparel Luxury Goods). This is especially important for us now as we have lost the
trust of many of our customers and our financial health is currently ranked as negative by several
reviewers such as the S P Capital IQ Quantitative Stock Report. Lululemon s previous leaders decision
to compromise quality and the numerous public disagreements surrounding how the company should
be run have led to confusion among our stakeholders and consumers. Recent management changes
have caused a further loss of trust amongst our customers. It is imperative that we better our financial
health and improve our customers perception of our company within the next year. To help achieve
both these objectives, our next big move should be to introduce a wearable health technology product
that our consumers can use to monitor their health and track improvements in their fitness. Two
factors are central to this proposal: (1) we understand that the climate of our market and industry is
extremely competitive and it is vitally important for us to stand out by introducing an innovative and
highly desirable product and (2) there currently is a significant trend surrounding the use

In A Day Imagery
An Image Is Worth A Thousand Meanings Sam Shepard once said that, Words are tools of imagery in
motion . In the short story entitled All Summer in a Day which describes the tale of a young girl
missing out on the appearance of the sun (an event occurring every 7 years) due to her classmates
believing that she is different because she is not a native to the planet , Ray Bradbury utilizes imagery
in the story similarly to how it is described by Sam Shepard in the quote. Ray Bradbury s All Summer
In a Day manipulates imagery by choosing contradicting pieces of imagery linked by their familiarity
to children to create a conflict between reactions to what is unknown and what is known and Bradbury
uses the clash to express that the unknown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is able to convey meaning by creating a contradiction. While the rain is sweet, beautiful, and
crystal, it is simultaneously repetitive and tiresome. The rain connects to the roses Bradbury used as
well because the beauty of the roses disguises the negative aspects of it, similarly the seemingly
beautiful exterior of the rain does not show how its constant fall can be irritating. Here Bradbury
manages to form a connection between the children and the rain through his imagery. The children
have known rain all of their lives, causing them to become closely associated with one another. The
more they experienced rain, the less they liked it. Contrastingly, they did not know Margot very well
but still did not favor her. It is this contradiction between disliking what is known and what is not
known that connects back to the same major conflict appearing throughout the story as to how one
reacts to something that is foreign to them in contrast to if they recognized it

The Industrialization Of Rural Ireland In The 1940s And 1950s
Rural Ireland of the 1940s and 1950s was a very quiet, tranquil and peaceful region. It was very
agriculturally orientated and it was the main source of employment in this region (Wickham, 1980).
Rural Ireland was very poor and many residents had emigrated in search of work. During these
decades the Irish government used protectionist policies which created a community ideology
amongst Irish citizens (Wickham, 1980). The citizens felt a sense of control over their state. Let s now
fast forward in time and stop 20 years into the future. The region is now 1970 and Rural Ireland was

The Irish government took a huge risk by saying goodbye to the protectionist policies that had been in
place in the country for many years. Deciding to view the world as a market was a risk, considering it
went against the policies that led Irish people to believe they had a fraction of control over the state.
The risk paid off, with the government attracting Transnational Corporations into the rural regions of
Ireland through incentives and grants. The industrialization of Rural Ireland transformed Rural
Society. Rural Ireland, once a region occupied by agricultural enterprises, now became the home of
many manufacturing factories and the region had slowly begun to urbanize due to the increase in
Transnational Corporations in the region. Although there was conflict along the way, as can be seen by
the conflict that emerged due to a fear of pollution, this industrialization transformed the life of the
residents. Women were now given financial independence as they earned their own individual
incomes for the first time. They had escaped from the invisible handcuffs that locked them to their
homes. These women now had a new, distinguished source of power that enabled them to form their
own community ideology. A boom took off in the rural regions of Ireland, with more employment
opportunities. Migrants returned home to take advantage of these opportunities and the rural

Those Winter Sundays Figurative Language
In the poem Those Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden, is about a man looking back on his childhood
experience, and relationship with his father. The father of this man was the type of person to do
arduous labor, and be unacknowledged for it. Although the father deserved to not be acknowledged
because he only went through this labor for his obligation and expectations to do so, not out of love,
compassion, nor alacrity of any kind. He was an austere, anodyne, and abusive father but, his son still
believes he could have been a better son by behaving more appropriately, and giving him at least a
time where someone recognized and acknowledged his efforts through gratitude. The son thought that
if he did so, then things between them may have been better. Through the wording, consonance, strong
words, and meaning in the poem Those Winter Days exemplify the poor relationship between father

Loneliness expresses the pain of being alone and solitude expresses the glory of being alone (Paul

coming of age genre have characters that deal with loneliness at some point. The Catcher in the Rye

want to hang around any more. It made me too sad and lonesome (Knowles 51). Holden says that the

to need just people s presence more than they do, After Old Sunny was gone... Boy, I felt miserable. I

Holden s loneliness is when he tells Sally, We ll stay in these cabins camps and stuff like that until the

The Animal Shaped, By The King Of The Gods
Although the idea of daemons as animal shaped, external companions found their full appeal in the
worlds of His Dark Materials, the concept of daemons itself is far older. The word originates from the
Ancient Greek daimon, which meant god or guiding spirit, aptly describing its role in ancient Greek
mythology (Daimon, dictionary.com). Zeus, the king of the gods, assigned daemons as nameless
protectors, guiding humans throughout their lives. As such, they served as guardian spirits with the
status of lesser deities (Bruner, pages 15 16). In particular, one Ancient Greek philosopher, Socrates,
mentioned daemons by name when he claimed that an inner voice often warned him against unwise
decisions. He called this voice a daimonion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The following two books, The Subtle Knife in 1997 and The Amber Spyglass in 2000, add more
layers of complexity to both the worlds of the novels and to the idea of daemons itself. Specifically,
The Subtle Knife introduces the character of Will Parry and the object which lends its name to the title
of the novel, as it could open windows to other universes. The Amber Spyglass, finishing the trilogy,
reveals Will and Lyra s eventual destiny as they transition from innocence and youth to maturity and
experience.
The story, while enjoyable for its lively characters and intriguing plot, also raises a deeper question:
To what extent are daemons effective portrayals of human souls in Philip Pullman s His Dark
Materials? Undeniably, daemons form perhaps one of the most appealing aspects of the trilogy. Souls
have been a subject of human thought for much of history, as humans seek to better understand
themselves and how they connect to the wider universe. Thus, the three novels, through daemons,
allow readers to engage in this task and ponder questions of the soul, both within and outside of the
books. The most popular form which this takes is the persistent question of wondering which form one
s own daemon would take, thereby discovering truths about one s own identity. For example,
concluding that one s daemon is a tiger can suggest that the person is courageous and powerful, but
also solitary and

The Effect Of Temperature On The Enzyme Peroxidase
The Effect of Temperature on the Enzyme Peroxidase The objective of this experiment is to explore
the effect of temperature on the enzyme peroxidase. To comprehend the effect that temperature can
have on enzymes, specifically peroxidase, one must understand what enzymes are and what their
function is. Enzymes are proteins that are found in cells that function as catalyst (Ms. Chang s Enzyme
Notes). What is meant by this is that enzymes increase the speed of chemical reactions without
changing the chemical equilibrium between reactants and products or becoming consumed or
permanently modified by the reaction through lowering the activation energy barrier (Enzymes).
Enzymes are necessary in order to sustain life because without them, the chemical reactions that take
place in our cells would occur far too slowly (Ms. Chang s Enzyme Notes). In order to generate
chemical reactions, enzymes must bind to a substrate. A substrate is a specific reactant that an enzyme
acts upon in order to generate product. A substrate binds to the active site on the enzyme, which is a
groove or cavity on the surface of the enzyme in which the substrate flawlessly fits. Active sites are
typically composed of amino acids from various portions of the polypeptide chains that are drawn
together in the tertiary structure of the folded protein (Enzymes). Each type of enzyme can only bind
with specific substrates, because it is critical that the substrate and the active site of the enzyme align

The Wicked Step Grandmother s Lament
One of the world s best known stories is that of Cinderella. Variations of this tale exist in cultures all
across the world from Spanish America to Russia to Vietnam, and it has been pulled apart and
reimagined into several different forms on the page, stage, and screen. But the incarnation of the story
that is probably the most familiar is the one by Charles Perrault, with its signature Fairy Godmother
and glass slippers. Despite being published in 1697, it is still popular enough that it was remade for

Turning Points For Pearl Harbor Essay
One of America s most infamous attacks comes in the form of the Pearl Harbor. Throughout most of
World War II, America led with an Isolationism based policy that saw the country avoid foreign

how the war affected its surrounding allies and the incoming threat of a possible attack in the Pacific

saw a change on the home front also. America saw the death of its then sitting president Franklin
Roosevelt who Harry Truman took over for. While the war was primarily fought by men,
subsequently, this saw the rise of women, who began to take up factory and military jobs such as
airwomen and war nurses. Incidentally, while America wanted a façade that said racism and
equivalent forms of bigotry was from a past America, it couldn t escape this frame of mind because of
Japanese internment camps, segregated fighting units, and other forms of discrimination. African
American and other minority servicemen, while treated awful and placed in the separated units, fought
two fronts, the war and perhaps birthed the civil rights movement. This led to the phase double V ,
victory from war and segregation must be together. The final turning point is the Atomic bombs and

Our heroine of Jane Austen s Persuasion, Anne Elliot, is one of the greatest, and most appealing,

eight years after breaking her engagement to Captain Wentworth, has a developed unique character as
Austen s female heroine: she is the daughter of a bankrupt baronet, a 27 year old spinster, an introvert,

that while the cultures are different there is a common ground and there can be happiness, but it is not

Panama Canal Analysis
Major events leading to the construction of the Panama Canal:
The French impose an effort on the construction of the canal but end in a dejected failure.
Within the 1900s, John Hay and Julian Pauncefote come to an agreement that allows the United States
to control the construction and administration of the canal without fortifying it (Hay Pauncefote
Treaty).
Theodore Roosevelt then becomes president establishing great significance towards the idea that the
United States should behold total management over the canal.
The second treaty accomplishes the goal that allows the United States fortification of the canal.
Due to the lower demands introduced to the senate along with the natural disaster of what Mt.
Momotombo could cause, congress favors Panama.
Hay then offers negotiations towards Colombia, but the agreement is rejected.
The superiorities in Washington then exposed the idea that Panama could resolve the Colombian
conflict if they established and won independence as a whole.
A Panamanian group then plans to initiate a revolution with over 500 rebels.
United States Naval ships stop Colombian troops from interfering with Panamanian rebels.
In one day with the help of the U.S. and its naval ships, Panama is granted independence from
Colombia.
A new treaty is established that explains and distinguishes the rights for building the canal while also
protecting Panama.
The canal is then built and finalized after seven years of Roosevelt s passing.

Sexual Orientation Within America s Most Controversial...
Sexual orientation can be considered as one of America s most controversial topics. Although the
rationale and choice differs from person to person, and is considered to be a private matter of personal
preference, many people have experienced negative backlash and harsh criticism due to their
individual likings. In general, sexual orientation is defined as: a person s sexual identity in relation to
the gender to which they are attracted; the fact of being heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual. While
the definition seems to be straightforward and concise, the subject of sexual orientation encompasses
much more than just the intensity of emotional and erotic attraction and response to members of the

A person s sexual orientation is distinct from a person s gender identity and expression, but without
gender identity and expression, sexual orientation would be hard to distinguish. The term gender
identity, distinct from the term sexual orientation, refers to a person s innate, deeply felt psychological
identification as a man, woman or some other gender, which may or may not correspond to the sex
assigned to them at birth (e.g., the sex listed on their birth certificate). For example take a child who
may be born a hermaphrodite or what is commonly known as an intersex. When birthed this child
would have either male and female sex organs or sexual characteristics. Unlike those who are
heterosexual, homosexual, or even bisexual, an intersexual in my opinion would have the most
difficult time finding their sexual orientation, due to the fact at times they are given a gender identity
based on their genital formation. When in the womb intersex infants can be spotted. The choice is up
to the parent s then if they would like to assign gender to the infant. Some of the following diagnoses
at times seem to be the logical reasons behind assigning gender to the infant. Congenital Adrenal

The And Sacking Of The Greatest Metropolis
The plundering and sacking of the greatest metropolis (Constantinople) in the Christian world. Surely,
this was not the result that Pope Innocent III had in mind when he called upon the leaders of Europe in
1198 in an attempt to convince them to retake the Holy Land (Jerusalem). Since the death of Saladin,
Pope Innocent believed they were at a moment of weakness and it was a great opportunity to take the
Holy Land (Robinson). However, they would never get there. Short of resources and men the
crusaders took deals with the Republic of Venice and Alexis the IV. These deals involved them
invading Zara and Constantinople, fellow Christian kingdoms (Robinson). The irony of such actions is
astounding, considering their original mission of taking the cross in the name of Christianity. The 4th
Crusade was an eruption of tensions between the West and the Byzantine Empire which was caused by
the barbaric, greedy, and hypocritical nature of the Western leaders and crusaders and would leave a
devastating impact on the future of Byzantium. The relationship between Byzantium and the West was
severely severed by the time of the 4th crusade. There were still animosities from the West regarding
the Schism of 1054 when the Orthodox Church split from the Catholic Church (Phillips). There were
tensions caused by invasions by the fighting between the two parties in decades previous, and also by
the mannerism of passing crusader armies in Byzantium in 1095. Significantly, there was a general

House On Mango Street Silhouettes
Silhouettes 1. James doesn t quite get it. He s not confident in it. Ocean has been explaining his idea
for some time. It s easy, James, said Ocean James focuses on Plato s hands, which are going beserk.
Like a man on fire waving them about, James thinks. Ocean is describing something about the screen.
He is very intelligent. James would like to be bright like Ocean, but he is in lazy mood today and does
not want to think too hard today. James looks down at his feet. He thinks they smell and he needs a
shower. You re not listening, says Ocean Well, I am, replied James James still does not get what Ocean
is on about; perhaps he will get Harry to explain it to him later. 2. Gabriel is writing. He has been
writing ever since James can remember What the hell are you writing, Gabriel? asks James Don t ask
stupid questions. replied Gabriel Gabriel is writing poetry. Occasionally he looks up to yawn, in a
distressing fashion. James is unsure what the poems are for but Gabriel assures that they are very
important. Gabriel is very tall skinny, and his back is curved from hunching over whilst writing. He is

the thought that everything they ve known as real life is wrong, so they end up killing the person who
tackles their beliefs. This allegory was used by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato to explain his
theory of the ideal world the concept that our world is only a shadow world , and everything in it is a
reflection of an ideal world . Very Matrix Series if you ask

Jesus s Last Supper
A Tale of Two Last Suppers Jesus s Last Supper, as detailed in the Gospels, was vital to the story of
Christ. At this supper, there was a major development one that would shape Jesus s life and shape
Christianity itself. It is at this final supper where Jesus announces to all of his apostles that one of
them will betray him. This is, of course, in reference to Judas, who would turn Jesus into the
authorities in return for a reward. The apostles were shocked and confused. This major development is
at the core mythology of Christianity, and it is why the Last Supper has been so frequently painted by
artists throughout the centuries. Two of the most famous paintings of the Last Supper are by Leonardo
da Vinci and Andrea del Castagno. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is naturally one of the first things that we see when we look at the different renditions of the famous
scene, and this makes sense. Typically, Jesus is in the middle of the painting, while flanked by the 12
apostles on either side of him. Naturally, then, our eyes will focus on the center of the painting Jesus.
However, in Castagno s painting, Jesus is not quite at the center of the painting, as pointed out by
Joseph Polzer (15). He notes that John s body and not Christ s is the one that connects with the center
of the painting. John s head is face down on the table, leaned toward Jesus (15 16). While John is at
the exact center of the painting, Jesus has the same number of people on either side of him. Polzer
points out that Judas dark head is vertically above every other character in the painting, including
Christ (16). Polzer argues that this is meant to emphasize the role of evil in humanity (16). The
composition of Castagno s work was also unique in how he used contrast throughout the painting. He
was one of the pioneers of using contrasting light to further amplify the drama of mighty events

protect, and enhance the nation s fish and wildlife by providing sustainable healthy environments for
future generations. It is through these three basic principles of conserve, protect and enhance the
USFWS is able to bring programs that both directly affect the health and well being of migratory
birds, fish and endangered species. In most cases it is through habitat protection that enables the

Title IX Case Study
Introduction
Title IX, enacted in 1972, requires all entities receiving federal funds to provide equal opportunities to
both genders. A Title IX complaint was filed against Chico Unified, and the OCR made several
allegations of non compliance.
Title IX is broken into three areas (participation, financial assistance, and treatment of athletes). The
OCR did not allege non compliance pertaining financial assistance, as Chico does not offer athletic
scholarships. Conversely, The OCR made several allegations under the areas of participation and
treatment of athletes. Below the allegations are separated into the two categories, followed by the
OCR s reasoning, and concluding with strategies to become compliant.
Participation
Allegations:

To prove compliance by prong three, a school must conduct viable surveys of all female students. In
2005, the Bush administration determined that unanswered emails can be considered as a lack of
interest. However, the OCR values a survey with high participation rates, compared to low (NIAAA,
p.112 114, 2011).
Response Strategies/Best Practices
An adequate survey must be conducted. An adequate survey requires impartially worded questions,
and a high participation percentage.
Suggest finding a time to conduct the survey in person, as opposed to emailing a survey.
Suggest raising the number of roster spots on girls teams. For example, all girls basketball rosters
should have 15 athletes.
Efforts should be made to add one girl team sport. The sport should be determined based upon both
survey results and the practicality of adding the sport. Practicality should be determined by ability to
compete, ability to obtain resources and hire coaches, and the ability to maintain a program long term.
Treatment of athletes
Allegations:
Disparity in the quality of facilities for boys and girls teams. The OCR found that the softball field is
below the quality of the baseball field.

My Identity Research Paper
Gautama Buddha once said that Our thoughts are most important. All that we are is the result of our
thoughts. For most, many don t realize how powerful our thoughts are. I believe that our thoughts do
create our reality and the things in it. Being in control of one s own destiny is everyone s wish, but
everyday people let their circumstances define them and forget that they have the power to change
their world. Even I sometimes get carried away and forget that I am truly in control of my reality. I
know that because of our thoughts we create our destiny which is a reflection of our identity. One has
to truly understand who they are to make conscious choices that can positively affect their life.

so sad, recurring What good amid these, O me, O life/ Answer./ That you are here that life exists and
identity,/ That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse (7 10). In this quote, Walt
Whitman s discusses the meaning of life and that it is easy to get lost and think in a negative light.
Questioning constantly about one s destiny can make someone forget their true purpose. As for
myself, I couldn t expect my life to change overnight. It was going to be a long process. As time
passed on, slowly but surely, I saw small changes. I felt better about my life and more in control. I
didn t look at things in a negative way and felt myself become the person I wanted to be

Introduction. Muddled Is An Acfi2003 Student And As Many
Introduction
Muddled is an ACFI2003 student and as many others has problems with several aspects of the course
including a fundamental principle, the differences in the costing systems and cost management
systems. The purpose of this essay is help Muddled understand the fundamental costing principle that
management systems should reflect the fact that different costs are relevant for different purposes, and
how this principle affects the way that job costing and process costing systems are designed. Along the
way several costing concepts will be explained and laid out for Muddled to understand in a more
simplified method. The axiom will be covered first with particular reference to the costing systems,
the differences between the job ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2.2 Job Costing System vs. Process Costing System
The main differences between a job costing system and a process costing system can be summarised
to the cost objects used, the size of the job and production, identification of the product, whether work
in progress is present at the start of the period, the method of cost accumulation used and when cost
are asserted.
2.2.1 Cost Objects
Muddled needs to understand that cost objects is something that is assigned costs and has a direct link
to those costs.
Job costing systems are used by firms who make special orders or customised products with individual
identities for each job with regards to singular contract specifications. The cost object being the
individual unit/s or product in that contract. This is due to each job using different amounts of
resources and is allocated specifically to the individual job, thus the specific job is the cost object that
has the costs directly assigned to, at the completion of the job.
Process costing systems are applied when there is a mass production of similar products, in a
continuous flow; though one or multiple departments; thus the products having no identity. The
process or department used to make these products are assigned the costs at the end of a cost period

During a disaster, the media helps in alerting and communicating evacuation procedures for individuals in the disaster zone. They also help in updating the public as the relief and evacuation process progresses. Information regarding available disaster relief facilities and the needs of the victims can be conveyed through the media (Ghassabi Firoozeh, 2015). After the disaster, encouraging humanitarian aids from people, organizations and Non governmental organizations can be performed by the media. They could also follow up the rebuilding process, supervise the budget spending in the disaster area and help to identify the weaknesses of the disaster management process in an effort to prevent or better handle future disasters (Ghassabi Firoozeh, 2015). In most cases, the news media provides an important disaster management public service, using platforms like broadcasting alerts, warnings, and advisories. The media can also provide information to decision makers in the event of an emergency (FEMA, 1999). Moreover, there was much ignorance shown by white authorities when there was an African American boycotting to prove a point. Specialty Chemicals From Pyrolysis Of Waste Tire Rubber Specialty Chemicals From Pyrolysis of Waste Tire Rubber: A Business Risk Assessment Professional Science Masters of Applied Physical Science Georgia Southern University Meredith C. Smoak April 17, 2015 Abstract This report describes the internship I collaborated with Amiare, LLC, a new startup company. Amiare, LLC, through a patented pyrolysis technology, produces a universal paraffin dispersant which is utilized in the oil and gas industry for enhanced oil recovery and tank bottom cleaning. The overall objective of the internship with Amiare, LLC was to conduct qualitative research, document, and present findings regarding the competitive landscape for a new entrant in the product and service market for chemical treatment of oilfields with reduced or minimal productivity due to the presence and buildup of paraffins and asphaltenes. The rise in crude oil production drives demand for asphaltene and paraffin inhibitors while creating risks identifiable with market entries into the Enhanced Oil Recovery industry. I suggest some qualitative elements from the work of Bruce Merrifield* to help guide my preliminary risk assessment to determine the merit for further quantitative investigation. Introduction Crude oil extractions have been growing continuously worldwide over the years. The challenges for crude oil producers in controlling asphaltene and paraffin deposition in reservoir storage and processing are parallel with the ever increasing rise in ... One of the more dominant problems within the Bryan, College Station area, is the extensive amount of flooding that takes place every year. Whenever it rains, the town and a large number of major areas gets engulfed by uncontrollable amounts of water. The streets and roadways get backed up with so much excess water that they must close off certain parts of town to ensure the safety of the people who live there. • 14. Racial Prejudice And Stereotypes Stereotypes are generalized, usually negative, but sometimes positive, beliefs about a group of people. Prejudice unjustifiably applies stereotypes to a singe member of the group based on their association with that group. Everyone has different amounts of prejudice, and though most people will not admit to being prejudiced, every single person is prejudiced to some degree. Prejudice can exist at two different levels, an implicit and an explicit level. Though most people will deny any explicit prejudices, everyone harbors implicit prejudices. Research has shown that people who deny racial prejudice often make negative associations known as implicit racial associations. One cause of negative racial associations is ingroup bias. Since the beginning of time, people have felt the need to belong to certain groups, which lead to prejudice by splitting people into us and them, us being the ingroup, and them being the outgroup. The ingroup, or us, are people who share a common identity, and the outgroup, or them, is anyone who does not share this identity or belong to the same group. Ingroup bias develops shortly after identifying ingroups and outgroups. Prejudice is something that is very prevalent in everyday life. One example of prejudice that has been big recently is the prejudice white law enforcement officers have against African Americans. The Winding Stair And Other Poems As Professor Pethica points out, the volume The Winding Stair and Other Poems is extraordinary because its textual history is particularly elaborate, even by Yeats s standards. Although I would love to explore the relationship between different editions, as we did when we talked about different editions of Wilde Swans at Coole, the task is too huge to be tackled sufficiently in this paper. In order to preclude any ambiguity, I would like to clarify that whenever I use the title The Winding Stair and Other Poems in this paper, unless otherwise specified, I am referring to the last edition published in 1933. Losing all touch with the finer consciousness of the age it would be, not only irresponsible, but anemic (Foster, 441). In the poem Three movements, the poet observes that Shakespearean fish swam the sea, far away from land; / Romantic fish swam in nets coming to the hand; / What are all those fish that lie gasping on the strand? (Finneran, 240) Yeats is neither detached Shakespearean fish, nor credulous Romantic fish; he is the fish that lie gasping on the strand, and the volume The Winding Stair and Other Poems is his struggle with the crisis of his age, both the age of the poet (nearly 70 at the time) and the age of the world (1930s). We have talked a lot about Yeats s dialectical effort to transcend mortality and achieve immortality in his poetry. Such effort to transcend mortality presupposes the dichotomy between life and death. Indeed, in previous volumes, may concepts are contingent upon a symmetrically opposing idea: the symbol of the Mask presupposes the dichotomy between self and anti self, and many of Yeats s poems feature the dichotomy between female and male. However, in the volume The Winding Stair and Other Poems, Yeats points out a simple yet fundamental fact, that these dichotomies are all human constructs. In the poem Vacillation, the speaker solemnly observes that Between extremities / Man runs his course (Finneran, 250). The Main Features Of Information Management 01 The need to manage information and knowledge within organisations 1.1 Outline the main features of information management Information management (IM) is the collection and management of information from one or more sources and the distribution of that information to one or more audiences; is also particularly critical to businesses that work in conjunction with other businesses, so the two must share information with, or transfer information to, each other. In addition, businesses with more than one department or unit can use the MIS to compile information in one central location, thereby preventing information loss. 1.2 Explain the relationship between data, information and knowledge The relationship between data, information, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Knowledge can refer to a theoretical or practical understanding of a subject. It can be tacit (as with practical skill or expertise) or explicit (as with the theoretical understanding of a subject); it can be more or less formal or systematic. Botha et al (2008) pointed out that tacit and explicit knowledge should be seen as a spectrum rather than as definitive points. Therefore, in practice, all knowledge is a mixture of tacit and explicit elements rather than being one or the other. The most important distinction within KM is between explicit and tacit knowledge. The overload of data is making knowledge management increasingly more important as it facilitates decision making capabilities; builds learning organizations by making learning routine, and stimulates cultural change and innovation. 1.4 Analyse the benefits that information and knowledge management brings to organisations To get sustainable competitive advantage, the significant role of knowledge management has been explored. Knowledge management causes companies core competencies to become stronger. Therefore, competitive advantage has been more sustainable. • 22. Love And Love In Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 Shakespeare wrote many sonnets about love, largely in a traditional sense. However, his 130th sonnet takes a different theme: a relationship that is found through true friendship and love despite physical beauty standards. Shakespeare uses contrasting values, natural and divine imagery and contradictory statements to show that love is much more than just physical attraction. Sonnet #130 is filled with nature imagery: Shakespeare mentions the sun, coral, snow and roses, all things that are largely deemed beautiful by society both then and now. In these images, he paints the idea of what a beautiful woman should look like, how the woman he thinks of loving looks like she s from a fairy tale. The nature images are described as being absent from the woman Shakespeare loves, rather than being given an opposite, implying that the woman he loves is by no means someone he cannot love or look upon. Though many interperet the mistress of this sonnet to be an ugly woman due to some other lines of the poem, this absence of an opposite seems to suggest otherwise: she is not an ethereal beauty, simply a normal, plain looking woman who the sonnet s speaker loves despite how she may look. Shakespeare uses more imagery in this sonnet than just things found in nature. Though there are only two instances of it, he also uses imagery of the divine. It occurs once in the last quatrain ( I grant I never saw a goddess go ), and once in the poem s final couplet ( And yet, by heaven, I think my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These are the rules that we abide by and are ingrained in our heads but what happens if one breaks that social norm. The film Cool Hand Luke expresses the idea of breaking social norms. Being part of the extremely competitive and constantly evolving textiles, apparel luxury goods industry requires us to constantly strive to be innovative. We must frequently analyze the market, its trends, and all relevant information that can inform us of opportunities and threats that apply to our industry (Textiles, Apparel Luxury Goods). This is especially important for us now as we have lost the trust of many of our customers and our financial health is currently ranked as negative by several reviewers such as the S P Capital IQ Quantitative Stock Report. Lululemon s previous leaders decision to compromise quality and the numerous public disagreements surrounding how the company should be run have led to confusion among our stakeholders and consumers. Recent management changes have caused a further loss of trust amongst our customers. It is imperative that we better our financial health and improve our customers perception of our company within the next year. To help achieve both these objectives, our next big move should be to introduce a wearable health technology product that our consumers can use to monitor their health and track improvements in their fitness. Two factors are central to this proposal: (1) we understand that the climate of our market and industry is extremely competitive and it is vitally important for us to stand out by introducing an innovative and highly desirable product and (2) there currently is a significant trend surrounding the use ... In the short story entitled All Summer in a Day which describes the tale of a young girl missing out on the appearance of the sun (an event occurring every 7 years) due to her classmates believing that she is different because she is not a native to the planet , Ray Bradbury utilizes imagery in the story similarly to how it is described by Sam Shepard in the quote. The rain connects to the roses Bradbury used as well because the beauty of the roses disguises the negative aspects of it, similarly the seemingly beautiful exterior of the rain does not show how its constant fall can be irritating. Here Bradbury manages to form a connection between the children and the rain through his imagery. The children have known rain all of their lives, causing them to become closely associated with one another. The more they experienced rain, the less they liked it. Contrastingly, they did not know Margot very well but still did not favor her. The Animal Shaped, By The King Of The Gods Although the idea of daemons as animal shaped, external companions found their full appeal in the worlds of His Dark Materials, the concept of daemons itself is far older. The word originates from the Ancient Greek daimon, which meant god or guiding spirit, aptly describing its role in ancient Greek mythology (Daimon, dictionary.com). Zeus, the king of the gods, assigned daemons as nameless protectors, guiding humans throughout their lives. As such, they served as guardian spirits with the status of lesser deities (Bruner, pages 15 16). The Amber Spyglass, finishing the trilogy, reveals Will and Lyra s eventual destiny as they transition from innocence and youth to maturity and experience. The story, while enjoyable for its lively characters and intriguing plot, also raises a deeper question: To what extent are daemons effective portrayals of human souls in Philip Pullman s His Dark Materials? Undeniably, daemons form perhaps one of the most appealing aspects of the trilogy. Souls have been a subject of human thought for much of history, as humans seek to better understand themselves and how they connect to the wider universe. Thus, the three novels, through daemons, allow readers to engage in this task and ponder questions of the soul, both within and outside of the books. The most popular form which this takes is the persistent question of wondering which form one s own daemon would take, thereby discovering truths about one s own identity. • 32. The Effect Of Temperature On The Enzyme Peroxidase The Effect of Temperature on the Enzyme Peroxidase The objective of this experiment is to explore the effect of temperature on the enzyme peroxidase. To comprehend the effect that temperature can have on enzymes, specifically peroxidase, one must understand what enzymes are and what their function is. Enzymes are proteins that are found in cells that function as catalyst (Ms. Chang s Enzyme Notes). What is meant by this is that enzymes increase the speed of chemical reactions without changing the chemical equilibrium between reactants and products or becoming consumed or permanently modified by the reaction through lowering the activation energy barrier (Enzymes). Enzymes are necessary in order to sustain life because without them, the chemical reactions that take place in our cells would occur far too slowly (Ms. Chang s Enzyme Notes). In order to generate chemical reactions, enzymes must bind to a substrate. A substrate is a specific reactant that an enzyme acts upon in order to generate product. A substrate binds to the active site on the enzyme, which is a groove or cavity on the surface of the enzyme in which the substrate flawlessly fits. Active sites are typically composed of amino acids from various portions of the polypeptide chains that are drawn together in the tertiary structure of the folded protein (Enzymes). Each type of enzyme can only bind with specific substrates, because it is critical that the substrate and the active site of the enzyme align ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nurses play an important role in providing optimal patient care that addresses the unique needs of each individual patient (Sherwood Zomorodi, 2014). The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) competencies offer a guideline by which nurses can follow when providing patient centered care, including such things as teamwork, patient safety, and informatics/communication (Sherwood Zomorodi, ... • 42. The And Sacking Of The Greatest Metropolis The plundering and sacking of the greatest metropolis (Constantinople) in the Christian world. Surely, this was not the result that Pope Innocent III had in mind when he called upon the leaders of Europe in 1198 in an attempt to convince them to retake the Holy Land (Jerusalem). Since the death of Saladin, Pope Innocent believed they were at a moment of weakness and it was a great opportunity to take the Holy Land (Robinson). However, they would never get there. Short of resources and men the crusaders took deals with the Republic of Venice and Alexis the IV. These deals involved them invading Zara and Constantinople, fellow Christian kingdoms (Robinson). The irony of such actions is astounding, considering their original mission of taking the cross in the name of Christianity. The 4th Crusade was an eruption of tensions between the West and the Byzantine Empire which was caused by the barbaric, greedy, and hypocritical nature of the Western leaders and crusaders and would leave a devastating impact on the future of Byzantium. The relationship between Byzantium and the West was severely severed by the time of the 4th crusade. There were still animosities from the West regarding the Schism of 1054 when the Orthodox Church split from the Catholic Church (Phillips). There were tensions caused by invasions by the fighting between the two parties in decades previous, and also by the mannerism of passing crusader armies in Byzantium in 1095. Significantly, there was a general ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Jesus s Last Supper A Tale of Two Last Suppers Jesus s Last Supper, as detailed in the Gospels, was vital to the story of Christ. At this supper, there was a major development one that would shape Jesus s life and shape Christianity itself. It is at this final supper where Jesus announces to all of his apostles that one of them will betray him. This is, of course, in reference to Judas, who would turn Jesus into the authorities in return for a reward. The apostles were shocked and confused. This major development is at the core mythology of Christianity, and it is why the Last Supper has been so frequently painted by artists throughout the centuries. Two of the most famous paintings of the Last Supper are by Leonardo da Vinci and Andrea del Castagno. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is naturally one of the first things that we see when we look at the different renditions of the famous scene, and this makes sense. Typically, Jesus is in the middle of the painting, while flanked by the 12 apostles on either side of him. Naturally, then, our eyes will focus on the center of the painting Jesus. However, in Castagno s painting, Jesus is not quite at the center of the painting, as pointed out by Joseph Polzer (15). He notes that John s body and not Christ s is the one that connects with the center of the painting. John s head is face down on the table, leaned toward Jesus (15 16). While John is at the exact center of the painting, Jesus has the same number of people on either side of him. Polzer points out that Judas dark head is vertically above every other character in the painting, including Christ (16). Polzer argues that this is meant to emphasize the role of evil in humanity (16). The composition of Castagno s work was also unique in how he used contrast throughout the painting. He was one of the pioneers of using contrasting light to further amplify the drama of mighty events ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The OCR did not allege non compliance pertaining financial assistance, as Chico does not offer athletic scholarships. In 2005, the Bush administration determined that unanswered emails can be considered as a lack of interest. However, the OCR values a survey with high participation rates, compared to low (NIAAA, p.112 114, 2011). Response Strategies/Best Practices An adequate survey must be conducted. An adequate survey requires impartially worded questions, and a high participation percentage. Suggest finding a time to conduct the survey in person, as opposed to emailing a survey. Suggest raising the number of roster spots on girls teams. For example, all girls basketball rosters should have 15 athletes. Efforts should be made to add one girl team sport. The sport should be determined based upon both survey results and the practicality of adding the sport. Practicality should be determined by ability to compete, ability to obtain resources and hire coaches, and the ability to maintain a program long term. Treatment of athletes Allegations: Disparity in the quality of facilities for boys and girls teams. The OCR found that the softball field is below the quality of the baseball field. Disparity in ... Job costing systems are used by firms who make special orders or customised products with individual identities for each job with regards to singular contract specifications. The cost object being the individual unit/s or product in that contract. This is due to each job using different amounts of resources and is allocated specifically to the individual job, thus the specific job is the cost object that has the costs directly assigned to, at the completion of the job. Process costing systems are applied when there is a mass production of similar products, in a continuous flow; though one or multiple departments; thus the products having no identity. The process or department used to make these products are assigned the costs at the end of a cost period rather ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
