The 60 s were an important era as it was Nokia s first step into the market of telecommunications.
As the 1980 s approached and the micro computer age arrived, Nokia was very much involved and
emerged as a major producer of computers, monitors and TV sets. Since then, Nokia has come a long
way. After the end of 2001, the company s net sales summed up to US$ 28.15 billion.
It boasted 18 production facilities in 10 different countries around the world and a research and

The Marketing Mix 4P s
To determine the marketing mix for a product is essential to any company. They are the main variables
through which a firm carries out its marketing strategies. These variables are more commonly known
as the 4 P s. They are…

· Place
· Price
· Promotion
Here, I will look into detail the marketing mix for Nokia.
Product
The product is the most important aspect of the marketing mix. The reason for this is that without a

Essay on The War on Terror
War on terror refers to the ongoing military campaign led by U.S and U.K against organizations
identified as terrorists. Terrorism can be defined as an unlawful violence or war deliberately targeted
to civilians. It can also be defined as a systematic use of terror to coerce or violent acts intended to
create fear. This threat is normally perpetrated for religious, political or ideological goals. The conflict
as also called by other names. They include World War III, The Long War, War on Terrorism, Bush s
War on Terror, The Global War of Terror and War on Al Qaeda, (Coaty, 2010).
Terrorism became popular in 1996 when Al Qaeda network was formed by the late Osama Bin Laden.

Underlying conditions that terrorists seek to exploit were reduced. This was a measure that was used
to reduce the chances of unlawful attacks on the globe. U.S partnered with the international
community to empower weak states and prevent emergence of terrorism. To date, this can be seen in
Libya, Cote Devore and Somalia where the states have no proper governments. The international
troops have been deployed in the above states to ensure that terrorists do not utilize such loopholes to
attack the citizens.
Fighting the War on Terror
War on terror is a global challenge. A number of ways have been put across to fight the problem led by
the United States of America. Defeating terrorist has been found to be a very effective way of fighting
this threat. It is achieved by identity, location and destruction of the terrorists along with their
organizations. Once the unlawful activities are spotted, they are confirmed and relevant actions taken
against them instantly. Evidence is the U.S bombing of Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan in pursuit of Al
Qaeda network which was successful because Osama was later found and killed.
Strategy of targeted killings is also a major way to fight terror. This is a method that focuses on the
individuals who bear the greatest responsibility. The aim is to catch them alive or dead. It has indeed
borne fruit over the years. Evidence is the demise of Sadaam, Fazul and the recent killing of Osama

Character Analysis Of Ark Angel
Josh Kennelly
Mr. Mariano
English 9
13 November 2017
Ark Angel Book Report A complex character is a character that has a variety of traits and different
sides to their personality. In this story, the complex character I chose was Alex Rider. This is because
throughout the story, he does many intriguing, engaging, and critical actions. This is what makes him
my complex character. Over the course of the story, Alex learns how to deal with and cope with
people trying to kill him. Analytically and effectively, he interacts with the characters in different ways
as the story goes on when he learns the good and bad people.
The novel starts off with Alex Rider in a hospital recovering from an assassination attempt caused by
the terrorist organization Scorpia. He meets a teen his age named Paul Drevin son of Russian
multibillionare Nikolei Drevin and host of the Ark Angel project and forms an alliance with him. This
action is complex because forming an alliance can be very difficult. Later, one night, a group of four
men arrive in the hospital in an attempt to kidnap Paul Drevin. Alex, in an attempt to rescue Paul,
pretends to be Paul himself and overpowers the four men, before eing knocked out by a fifth man.
This shows how complex he is. Alex is captured by the men and taken to an abandoned apartment.
The men reveal themselves to be Force Three, an eco terrorist group led by a man named Kaspar. Alex
proves that he is not Paul Drevin, but Force Three burns the tower and leaves Alex to die anyway he
escapes using a tightrope. Horowitz describes, I m not afraid of Force Three, he blustered. I m not
afraid of anyone (6). This quote shows how Rider is intriguing. Apparently grateful for Paul being
spared, Nikolei Drevin invites him to come and stay in luxury with him for two weeks. When Alex
arrives in Drevin s house, he befriends Paul, but decides to leave him and Drevin when they arrive in
New York. At the New York airport, Alex is taken to the CIA, who tells him that Drevin is a banker for
numerous criminal organizations. The CIA recruits Alex to continue his vacation with Drevin to
investigate him. When they arrive in Flamingo Bay, Drevin s private island, Drevin discovers that

Arguments Against Faux Fur
An analysis of the strengths and weaknesses found in the argument
Premise 1
Premise 1 argues that the animal fur industry should be stopped since faux fur is a better alternative to
animal fur. It claims that faux fur delivers the same benefits (it has an indistinguishable appearance
and provides greater warmth) with less environmental cost. The suppressed assumption here is that
environmental damage should be prevented where possible: this is a non controversial normative
claim that does not require further support, and is, therefore, acceptable.
The first sub premise, which asserts that faux fur can replace animal fur in terms of human use is non
controversial and may be easily accepted. The second sub premise, a causal argument that faux ...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Premise 1 is unacceptable because the author fails to adequately compare the environmental impact of
the control (animal fur) and test (faux fur) groups, and is therefore unsuccessful in arguing that faux
fur is a superior alternative. Consequently, premise 1 holds a very weak inference as to why the animal
fur industry should be stopped. Premises 2 and 3 are unacceptable since they are linked, and premise 2
lacks sufficient analysis of the test and control groups. Since the author does not compare the levels of
suffering between the test (fur industry animals) and control (non fur industry animals) groups, we are
unable to conclude that suffering would be reduced or prevented by ending the animal fur industry.
Hence, premises 2 and 3 do not support the argument that the animal fur industry should be stopped to
prevent suffering. Lastly, Premise 4 is unacceptable because it commits fallacies of relevance and
vacuity: it does not argue why the industry should be stopped, but instead proposes a method of
stopping the industry. In these ways, the argument has a very weak rational core. The author has
attempted to conceal these logical flaws with rhetorical devices including emotionally charged
language and loaded descriptions. Ultimately, however, they have committed multiple fallacies and
further undermined their claims. For these reasons, the argument should be

Employer branding: what we should look for in a job??????
ABSTRACT
Everybody is seeking for good jobs. Employment is first concern for the society now a days. Working
in a reputed institution has become a status symbol as well. As we are choosing any product by
checking their credibility through the brand image they are having, in the same way people are
seeking for jobs in the organizations having good brand image in the market. Employer brand is the

and subsequent economic reforms, Indian companies has understand the concept of employer
branding and started investing for the same so that they can beat national and international
competition and also can grow in world market. Employer brand is something which confirms that the

Printing Press Vs Steam Engine
The printing press and steam engine have had major impacts on our society. Steam engines use hot
steam from boiling water to drive a piston back and forth. The movement of the piston is then used to
power a machine or turn a wheel. The printing press is a mechanical device for producing many copies
of a text on paper. Both of these inventions have had amazing impacts on our society. The steam
engines were invented by Thomas Savery. The steam engine has helped to power the Industrial
Revolution. Before steam power, most factories and mills were powered by water, wind, horse, or
man. Water was a good source of power, but factories had to be located near a river. Both water and
wind power could be unreliable as sometimes rivers could dry up during a drought or freeze during the
winter and wind didn t always blow. Steam power allowed for factories to be located anywhere. It also
provided reliable power and could be used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The printing press is important because it makes the mass production of printed materials possible.
For thousands of years prior to the invention of the printing press, all works in the history of human
writing could only be copied by hand or by inefficient forms of block printing, time consuming and
laborious processes that commanded high fees. The printing press dramatically reduced the time and
expense of copying works and paved the way for the democratization of knowledge. These two recent
inventions have had many impacts in our lives today. Without the steam engines we would not have as
many factories. This could result in less production for our basic necessities. The printing press is also
very important because without it everyone would have to copy things with hand. This process could
discourage many authors and writers and make it difficult for their audience to sometimes read their
works. This advancement s in technology have had many positive and effective impacts on our

Coding Theory Case Study
What is Coding Theory? Coding theory is the study of the properties of codes and their fitness for a
specific application. Codes are used for data compression, cryptography, error correction and more
recently also for network coding. Codes are studied by various scientific disciplines such as
information theory, electrical engineering, mathematics, and computer science for the purpose of
designing efficient and reliable data transmission methods. This typically involves the removal of
redundancy and the correction (or detection) of errors in the transmitted data. (Coding Theory, 2010)
There are many aspects that go into the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the original message were 1001, we would encode that as 10010, since the original message already
had n even number of 1 s. When someone receives the message 10101, since there are an odd number
of 1 s, we know that an error occurred during transmission. We do not know how many there were or
which digit(s) were effected and the parity check does locate them for correction.
Once the errors are located an error correcting code can begin. An ECC is an algorithm for expressing
a sequence of numbers such that any errors which are introduced can be detected and corrected
(within certain limitations) based on remaining numbers. (Weisstein, 2014) The study of error
correcting codes and the associated mathematics is known as coding theory. Detecting the errors
within codes is much easier than actually fixing the errors. The major difference between a parity
check is that with error correction, errors are detected and corrected right then, not just detected. Error
correction may generally be realized in two different ways: Automatic repeat request (ARQ). This is
an error control technique whereby an error detection scheme is combined with requests for
retransmission of erroneous data. Every block of data received is checked using the error detection
code used, and if the check fails, retransmission of the data is requested this may be done repeatedly,
until the data can be verified. The other is forward error correction (FEC). Here the sender encodes the
data using an

unreported by athletes2 4, 9, 12. According to McCrory et al., a concussion is defined as a complex

Getting What You Pay for: How Much is too Much for SEO?
Whether you own a business or agency in Toronto, Montreal, or Ottawa, you may already have given
some thought to the topic of search engine optimization (SEO). Unless you are a digital marketing
expert, you cannot provide your brand with the kind of online optimization required to get consistently
high rankings. That is why businesses rely on professionals to perform this necessary function.
One of the top misconceptions that many businesses have is that SEO services should be delivered at a
cheap rate. Why is this? There may be a few major factors that contribute to this fallacy. First, many
business marketers seem to be largely uninformed about the importance of SEO in terms of ... Show

Instead of outranking your competitors, which was the reason you decided to hire an SEO firm in the
first place, you might get outdated or ineffective link building. In fact, if the practices you paid for are
implemented unethically, you might even be deindexed or penalized by Google.
Instead of asking how much is too much for SEO, the more appropriate question might be: How much
is too little? You will not get the SEO results you expect for $10 a month or even $100 per month.
When SEO is done correctly, it is a complex process that involves an assortment of factors. To be
carried out effectively, quality SEO requires many hours of work. If you are not paying at least several
hundred dollars monthly, you might as well focus your marketing efforts on Google AdWords. Once
you can afford to pay for quality SEO services, you can enjoy higher rankings and gain an edge on the
competition.
Paying for Service Packages
If you have ever shopped around for SEO services, you have almost certainly seen general packages
available. These packages are often intended to provide clients with options, but what they typically
do is exclude necessary services unless clients pay the top price. If you choose one of the lower priced
packages, you might not get citations or backlinks. The plan that will truly benefit you is usually going
to be the highest priced option, and that could take many

Reconstruction And Post Reconstruction Essay
Throughout Reconstruction and post Reconstruction eras, education has been a staple of many
political campaigns, and the downfall of others. Society thrives on education. In the aftermath of the
Civil War, freed slaves scrambled to get representatives into the government, so that public schools for
black folk might be established. All was well during the reconstruction era, but post Reconstruction
saw a heavy decline in black congressional representation, and a corresponding decrease in support for
African American education. Reconstruction helped to establish institutes of public education in the
south for both races, but, in the end, provided more help to whites than blacks.

colonizers began the use of slavery as a fast and cheap method of running plantations and other

Greek Theatre And Medieval Drama
Greek Theatre and Medieval Drama: Distant Siblings Greek theatre and medieval drama were both
very popular artistic events in their own periods of performance. However, from ancient Greece to the
renaissance, time has set them apart in terms of methodology; their practitioners use a creative process
based off of different mindsets. Therefore, the significant time lapse between the two genres has had
an evident impact on the way theatre was perceived and presented. In comparing aspects such as
religious motivations, conditions of violence and character development, the distinct theatrical natures
of Greek theatre and medieval drama will be made apparent. Though both genres of theatre are closely
tied to religion, Greek theatre and medieval drama have different religious motivations that impact the
ways in which the theatrical event is utilized. In Greece, theatre was used to entertain or please the
Gods, more specifically the God Dionysus, during the most important of the four Athenian festivals:
the Great Dionysia. The first known Greek playwrights, such as Thespis and Euripides, were chosen to
compete in the festival and submit three tragedies and one satyr play to be performed in front of
approximately 15,000 spectators. In classical Greece, theatre was the center of citizenship and society;
religious ideologies towards Dionysus were not only realized by performances, but strongly
encouraged by the state. For example, if a citizen could not afford to attend the

The Importance Of The Human Genome Project
The Human Genome Project(HGP) provided valuable information that changed biology and medicine.
Beginning in the 1990 s a research project was created with the intent of determining the sequence of

project, it was an international project that required, funding, certain technologies, and research
methods. The Human Genome project provided important information that benefited medical science.
This project helped scientist understand different genetic diseases that plagued mankind and opened
the doors to many other scientific findings. Although the Human Genome Project was met with initial
resistance it has proved to be significant in many aspects of science. The Human Genome project was
widely anticipated, the possibility of understanding human disease, causes of disease, and human
evolution was at the forefront of science. In 1985 a project was formally proposed with the goal of
determining the complete nucleotide sequence of the human genome. Although the proposal had the
possibility to change science it was met with much resistance. The main concern was privacy of

Essay about The Use of Language in Animal Farm
The Use of Language in Animal Farm Animal Farm by George Orwell is an allegory in which animals
are personified to represent the struggles and conflicts of the Russian Revolution. The main point
emphasizes in the novel is that language is a powerful tool, which can be used to manipulate and
control people in order to bring about change, whether big or small. In the story the pigs govern
everything that happens, whether it is something as miner as eating a meal, or something as major and

Sociological Imagination In The Military
The sociological imagination is to think of society from a different perspective and as an individual to
take a step back and think how a situation affects the bigger picture. One of the biggest concerns in
today s military is fear of retaliation from supervisors after an individual reports sexual assault. Within
the U.S. Military there have been policies put in place such as the whistleblower protection act, but as
we all know when there comes change individuals refuse to comply. Civilians expect that U.S.
Military members act in a more professional manner due to the higher standards then the general
population.
To start off there is absolutely no protection for members who have been sexually assaulted. Just like
any other civilian, service members have a job to go to and perform. Service members are evaluated
based on their job performance, the last concern they need to be worried about is fear of going to work
and being scrutinized by their peers including their boss. Victims that experience sexual assault are
more likely to be discharged from the military than their assailants. ... Show more content on

It also depends on what your work setting is and who is enforcing the guidelines set in place. That
starts from the top of the chain of command and carries down to the lower ranking service members.
The best way to put it is to think about your own family and how you would like it if somebody was
harassing your wife or husband. It all starts with being a leader and having the courage to step up, and
also those around will start to follow your lead. Don Christensen, president of protect our defenders
makes a valid point when he says When no one is held accountable for retaliation, it creates a hostile

Solution Of A Weak Acid And Sodium Hydroxide Solution
Objectives:
To conduct a reaction between solutions of a weak acid and sodium hydroxide.
Determine the half way point of titration of an acid base reaction.
To calculate the pKa and the Ka for the weak acid.
To calculate Molar Mass of a weak acid from the titration results.
To determine the identity of a weak acid.
Introduction: The purpose of this experiment is to identify an unknown weak acid by titration with a
standard sodium hydroxide solution.
The pH of the titration solution will be monitored using a pH meter. The resulting titration curve will
then be used to determine the equivalent molecular weight and dissociation constant (Ka ) of the
unknown weak acid. These values will then let you determine the identity of the ... Show more content

At the halfway point of each titration, the concentration of acid remaining in the solution is equal to
half of its initial concentration.
At the halfway point of the Titration 1 the concentration of H2X is
and
Taking the negative log of this yields: pH = pKa
From the titration curve, we can determine the pH at the halfway point of the titration and thus
determine the pKa of the acid. From pKa = Log Ka we can determine the Ka of the acid. Since this
is a diprotic acid, this corresponds to Ka1. This information can be used to help identify the acid
because pKa and Ka values for a large number of mono and polyprotic acids are known.
Table 1. Some Characteristics of Selected Weak Acids
Acid Name Molar Mass, g/mol pKa
Acetic Acid 60.05 4.76
Ascorbic Acid 176.12 4.10 (pKa1)
Benzoic Acid 122.12 4.202
Boric Acid 61.83 9.24 (pKa1)

Procedure:
SAFETY NOTE: In case of a spill on the skin of an acid or a base, wash off immediately with plenty
of water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention if symptoms occur.
Waste Disposal: Do not return excess amount of NaOH solution into the original container, place it in
the properly labeled waste container instead. Solids can go into the Solid Waste jar. All solutions

Summary Of The Book Cracked Up To Be By Courtney Summers
Courtney Summers has spent her time writing since she was 18 years old. She was born in Belleville,
Ontario in 1986 and currently lives in a town not too far from there. She dropped out of high school at
age 14 because she was unhappy with her school environment. She pursued her education
independently and spent those years trying to figure out what she wanted to be. At age 18, she decided
she wanted to be a writer. She has five total novels, all the which include a depressing vibe from her.
They all include fear, bullying, depression, suicide, and being mentally off balance. Her first book she
published, Cracked Up to Be, was when she was 22. She won the 2009 CYBIL award (an award given

Her book, Cracked Up to Be, was inspired by her interest in writing an unlikeable female character.
Her book, Some Girls Are, was written because she tried to understand bullying better sense she was
dealing with bullies at a younger age. She wrote Fall For Anything because she s fascinated by the
way we grieve and handle losing loved ones. That book is basically all about grief and loss. After that,
she wrote the book This is Not a Test because she loves everything about zombies, and she thought it
would be interesting to experience a zombie apocalypse through the eyes of someone determined to
die. A numerous amount of people read her books because they can relate to the main character, or
maybe relate to the problems going on in the books. It s fascinating how you can write a book about
simple life problems and it becomes a huge deal. A great deal of people share the same life problems,
such as being a rape victim (which happens quite often), being bullied, being mentally off balance,
and etc. Besides being a writer, she also plays piano and is a photographer. She s a makeup artist

Technology is chipping away at our personal freedoms. In the New Testament, Revelations 13 warns
He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right

Redhead Stereotypes
Life as a redhead is tough when you don t have a soul. It is extremely difficult living life without
sympathy or the inability to be kind towards others. In my mind I feel like I want to do these things,
but being a ginger, I just can t. I want to feel bad for people with blonde, black, brown, or whatever
other color of hair there is, but since I have red hair I just can t. I want to feel bad for all those other
hair colors who don t like as stunning as we do, but I just can t. Living without a soul is the hardest
part of being a redhead, but everything else is gravy.
The redhead stereotypes make me laugh. Obviously the one about us not having a soul, that we
supposedly have a fiery temper, that we can t get tan. In the wise words of James ... Show more

I m the only one at my school with red hair so naturally I get all the attention. The benefits of being a
redhead are incredible. For starters, I never have to worry about the effects of the sun because I am
intelligent and make sure to lather myself with the highest grade of SPF sunblock there is. My
preference is Banana Boat for Men SPF 30, but anything lower than that is unacceptable. The second
benefit of my beautiful hair is all the compliments I receive from older ladies that see me for the first
time. It is almost guaranteed that when I am introduced to a lady who appears to be a grandmother, the
first thing out of her mouth is, Oh My Goodness! I love your hair! So I feel pretty special when that
happens. No other hair color can boast that like we can. Another great benefit of being a redhead is
that people automatically assume that you are a comedian. You can say something and people will
think it is the funniest thing on the planet. People look at redheads and laugh all the time. I like to
think they are laughing with us and not at us though. But this puts a lot of pressure on us because we
have to provide the world with comedy or else it will fall into oblivion perhaps. Probably not, but it is
nice getting recognition from people that we have a sense of humor. The last benefit is the holidays
that we get. If you are a ginger and don t know about National Kiss a GInger day, then you have been
missing out. One day in the whole year where someone kisses you because you have red hair. How
incredible is that? A free kiss because you were born with red hair. In my opinion this is one of the
greatest benefits of being a ginger. In the end people may laugh at us or with us, but they will never
truly get to feel the absolute joy it is to be a redhead everyday of the

Pros And Cons Of Imunizing Children
Immunizing Children One of the most controversial choices today is the choice to choose whether or
not to immunize children. Things to take into consideration when making this decision are the risks
involved in not immunizing children and some of the reasons against immunizing. The risks involved
in not immunizing children is that the child will not be protected against serious illnesses and diseases.
One of the reasons people choose not to immunize is that they are afraid it will traumatize or hurt their
child, but it s one or two injection pricks, opposed to a life time of multiple blood draws and lumbar
punctures (spinal taps) every time their child gets a rash or fever. If a child is not immunized they
would need to be tested every time for the diseases every time they got sick. Another reason people
choose against immunizations is a lack of health care. Though this is not so much choosing against the
immunizations, it is more they do not have the resources to choose immunizations. But here in the
United States children especially do not go without at least the basic health care. The United States is
behind many countries on health care but we are also not a third world country. We do have access to
great health care and we make it available to those in need. We have Medicaid, WIC (Womens,
Infants, Childrens), we have free clinics and many more resources to make sure children are protected.
The most common reason right now for people to choose

Our Secret Susan Kriffin Analysis
Everyone has experienced a dark moment in their lives. It is in these dark moments that turn out to be
the most profound. In the story Our Secret by Susan Griffin, it talks about the connection of the past
lives of those in Nazi Germany and about Griffin s own family. Griffin has also talked about an artist
named Kathe Kollwitz. Kathe Kollwitz has created many self portraits relating and expressing the
emotions of the people of Nazi Germany. During this time, many people have gone through hardships
such as poverty and war. Through poverty some may have experience or gone through some
emotional situations. During war, people may have lost someone close to them or even the peace they
had before the chaos have occurred. Griffin has related a painting by Kollwitz with her personal life.
In the story, Griffin is trying to portray through this connection how people feel emotionally and
physically in the midst of war and violence. War and expressions of emotions are common themes in
most great works of art. In the painting by Kollwitz called Poverty, it shows a woman holding her
head in her hands. The woman is looking at an infant sleeping in its bed. You can see the light from
the background shining through the window unto the baby. Although there is light shining on the baby,
it also shows that the baby is dying and the woman is actually crying. The portrait also shows two
figures standing in the background in darkness. On page 390 it states, Though the infant and the

Billy Collins Essay
Billy Collins: The Most Popular Poet in America
The American poet William James Billy Collins (born on March 22, 1941 in New York City) is
famous for his humorous, yet profound poetry. Collins grew in in New York, where he wrote his first
poem at the age of twelve and as a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and the University of
California Riverside, he is well educated, and he has even taught in several colleges and universities.
Due to his love of words, and exceptional poetic language, he received a large array of poetry awards,
positions, and honors, ranging from serving as Poet Laureate of the United States (2001 2003) to
being recognized as a Literary Lion of the New York Public Library (1992). In 2002, he was asked to

This book was praised for its imagery, but criticized for their inability to create an emotional reaction.
However, his earlier works were praised for their ability to intrigue the reader, despite their seemingly
obvious subject matter. In a review of Nine Horses for the New York Times, Mary Jo Salter stated
that, one appeal of the typical Collins poem is that it s less able to help you memorize it than to help
you to remember, for a little while anyway, your own life. His poetry books have been extremely
successful due to his wit, humor, openness and warmth when writing about the mundane (an aspect
that some have criticized for being ordinary or monotonous). Collins stated that he tries to make
himself clear to the reader, starting with a hospitable tone and ensuring that his transitions are clean
and easy to follow. He commented that as a poet, he is willing to give into distractions to develop his
work, saying I think my work has to do with a sense that we are attempting, all the time, to create a
logical, rational path through the day. To the left and right there are an amazing set of distractions that
we usually can t afford to follow. But the poet is willing to stop

The, No Bread For Thanksgiving

Sorry, No Bread for Thanksgiving
A few centuries ago, doctors were observing a strange phenomenon: well fed children, no matter how
much they were eating, were malnourished. The only known cure at this time was an all banana diet
[later revised to an all fruit diet] (Gut). It wasn t until World War II that a cause was attributed to Gee
Herter s disease the name of this unusual disorder. A shortage of grain led a Dutch pediatrician,
Willem Karel Dicke, to draw the conclusion that wheat was the culprit (Gut). He made this connection
when the death rate of children with this disease went from about 35% to 0% during the grain shortage
(Sanghavi). Today, Gee Herter s disease, more commonly known as coeliac or celiac disease, is better
understood. Advanced methods in molecular biology have allowed scientists to increase their
knowledge of how coeliac disease works.
Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disease, meaning that the body s immune system is responsible for
the ill symptoms by attacking the body s cells. This is different from an allergy, in that basophils and
eosinophil are specifically responsible for allergic responses (Celiac Disease Foundation). When an
individual with coeliac disease consumes wheat, barley, or rye [which contain the protein gluten]; it
triggers the immune system to attack the body. The small intestine is usually a main target;
specifically the villi, which are finger like projections that line the small

Symbolism And Allegory In The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
An allegory is a story where all characters and events are symbolic. Allegories have the remarkable
ability to take a basic story and make it complex by adding a symbolic aspect, like a person s name or
a physical object. The Lottery involves a small, agricultural community, where they have an annual
drawing. The winner of the lottery gets death as its prize. They believe that if they sacrifice a person,
they they will have good crops. Shirley Jackson includes many symbols and allusions in The Lottery
in order to convey her message: traditions can lead to mob mentality if they are not stopped.
The story Lottery is about a lottery. If they are picked, then they are stoned to death as a sacrifice for
good crops. It represents the idea handed

  • 5. Character Analysis Of Ark Angel Josh Kennelly Mr. Mariano English 9 13 November 2017 Ark Angel Book Report A complex character is a character that has a variety of traits and different sides to their personality. In this story, the complex character I chose was Alex Rider. This is because throughout the story, he does many intriguing, engaging, and critical actions. This is what makes him my complex character. Over the course of the story, Alex learns how to deal with and cope with people trying to kill him. Analytically and effectively, he interacts with the characters in different ways as the story goes on when he learns the good and bad people. The novel starts off with Alex Rider in a hospital recovering from an assassination attempt caused by the terrorist organization Scorpia. He meets a teen his age named Paul Drevin son of Russian multibillionare Nikolei Drevin and host of the Ark Angel project and forms an alliance with him. This action is complex because forming an alliance can be very difficult. Later, one night, a group of four men arrive in the hospital in an attempt to kidnap Paul Drevin. Alex, in an attempt to rescue Paul, pretends to be Paul himself and overpowers the four men, before eing knocked out by a fifth man. This shows how complex he is. Alex is captured by the men and taken to an abandoned apartment. The men reveal themselves to be Force Three, an eco terrorist group led by a man named Kaspar. Alex proves that he is not Paul Drevin, but Force Three burns the tower and leaves Alex to die anyway he escapes using a tightrope. Horowitz describes, I m not afraid of Force Three, he blustered. I m not afraid of anyone (6). This quote shows how Rider is intriguing. Apparently grateful for Paul being spared, Nikolei Drevin invites him to come and stay in luxury with him for two weeks. When Alex arrives in Drevin s house, he befriends Paul, but decides to leave him and Drevin when they arrive in New York. At the New York airport, Alex is taken to the CIA, who tells him that Drevin is a banker for numerous criminal organizations. The CIA recruits Alex to continue his vacation with Drevin to investigate him. When they arrive in Flamingo Bay, Drevin s private island, Drevin discovers that Alex is ... • 6. Arguments Against Faux Fur An analysis of the strengths and weaknesses found in the argument Premise 1 Premise 1 argues that the animal fur industry should be stopped since faux fur is a better alternative to animal fur. It claims that faux fur delivers the same benefits (it has an indistinguishable appearance and provides greater warmth) with less environmental cost. The suppressed assumption here is that environmental damage should be prevented where possible: this is a non controversial normative claim that does not require further support, and is, therefore, acceptable. The first sub premise, which asserts that faux fur can replace animal fur in terms of human use is non controversial and may be easily accepted. The second sub premise, a causal argument that faux ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Premise 1 is unacceptable because the author fails to adequately compare the environmental impact of the control (animal fur) and test (faux fur) groups, and is therefore unsuccessful in arguing that faux fur is a superior alternative. Consequently, premise 1 holds a very weak inference as to why the animal fur industry should be stopped. Premises 2 and 3 are unacceptable since they are linked, and premise 2 lacks sufficient analysis of the test and control groups. Since the author does not compare the levels of suffering between the test (fur industry animals) and control (non fur industry animals) groups, we are unable to conclude that suffering would be reduced or prevented by ending the animal fur industry. Hence, premises 2 and 3 do not support the argument that the animal fur industry should be stopped to prevent suffering. Lastly, Premise 4 is unacceptable because it commits fallacies of relevance and vacuity: it does not argue why the industry should be stopped, but instead proposes a method of stopping the industry. In these ways, the argument has a very weak rational core. The author has attempted to conceal these logical flaws with rhetorical devices including emotionally charged language and loaded descriptions. Ultimately, however, they have committed multiple fallacies and further undermined their claims. For these reasons, the argument should be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The movement of the piston is then used to power a machine or turn a wheel. The printing press is a mechanical device for producing many copies of a text on paper. Both of these inventions have had amazing impacts on our society. The steam engines were invented by Thomas Savery. The steam engine has helped to power the Industrial Revolution. Before steam power, most factories and mills were powered by water, wind, horse, or man. Water was a good source of power, but factories had to be located near a river. Both water and wind power could be unreliable as sometimes rivers could dry up during a drought or freeze during the winter and wind didn t always blow. The printing press dramatically reduced the time and expense of copying works and paved the way for the democratization of knowledge. These two recent inventions have had many impacts in our lives today. Without the steam engines we would not have as many factories. This could result in less production for our basic necessities. Coding theory is the study of the properties of codes and their fitness for a specific application. Codes are used for data compression, cryptography, error correction and more recently also for network coding. Codes are studied by various scientific disciplines such as information theory, electrical engineering, mathematics, and computer science for the purpose of designing efficient and reliable data transmission methods. This typically involves the removal of redundancy and the correction (or detection) of errors in the transmitted data. (Coding Theory, 2010) There are many aspects that go into the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the original message were 1001, we would encode that as 10010, since the original message already had n even number of 1 s. When someone receives the message 10101, since there are an odd number of 1 s, we know that an error occurred during transmission. We do not know how many there were or which digit(s) were effected and the parity check does locate them for correction. Once the errors are located an error correcting code can begin. An ECC is an algorithm for expressing a sequence of numbers such that any errors which are introduced can be detected and corrected (within certain limitations) based on remaining numbers. (Weisstein, 2014) The study of error correcting codes and the associated mathematics is known as coding theory. Detecting the errors within codes is much easier than actually fixing the errors. The major difference between a parity check is that with error correction, errors are detected and corrected right then, not just detected. Error correction may generally be realized in two different ways: Automatic repeat request (ARQ). This is an error control technique whereby an error detection scheme is combined with requests for retransmission of erroneous data. Every block of data received is checked using the error detection code used, and if the check fails, retransmission of the data is requested this may be done repeatedly, until the data can be verified. The other is forward error correction (FEC). Here the sender encodes the data using an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Greek Theatre And Medieval Drama Greek Theatre and Medieval Drama: Distant Siblings Greek theatre and medieval drama were both very popular artistic events in their own periods of performance. However, from ancient Greece to the renaissance, time has set them apart in terms of methodology; their practitioners use a creative process based off of different mindsets. Therefore, the significant time lapse between the two genres has had an evident impact on the way theatre was perceived and presented. In comparing aspects such as religious motivations, conditions of violence and character development, the distinct theatrical natures of Greek theatre and medieval drama will be made apparent. Though both genres of theatre are closely tied to religion, Greek theatre and medieval drama have different religious motivations that impact the ways in which the theatrical event is utilized. In Greece, theatre was used to entertain or please the Gods, more specifically the God Dionysus, during the most important of the four Athenian festivals: the Great Dionysia. The first known Greek playwrights, such as Thespis and Euripides, were chosen to compete in the festival and submit three tragedies and one satyr play to be performed in front of approximately 15,000 spectators. Sociological Imagination In The Military The sociological imagination is to think of society from a different perspective and as an individual to take a step back and think how a situation affects the bigger picture. One of the biggest concerns in today s military is fear of retaliation from supervisors after an individual reports sexual assault. Within the U.S. Military there have been policies put in place such as the whistleblower protection act, but as we all know when there comes change individuals refuse to comply. Civilians expect that U.S. Military members act in a more professional manner due to the higher standards then the general population. To start off there is absolutely no protection for members who have been sexually assaulted. Just like any other civilian, service members have a job to go to and perform. Service members are evaluated based on their job performance, the last concern they need to be worried about is fear of going to work and being scrutinized by their peers including their boss. Determine the half way point of titration of an acid base reaction. To calculate the pKa and the Ka for the weak acid. To calculate Molar Mass of a weak acid from the titration results. To determine the identity of a weak acid. Introduction: The purpose of this experiment is to identify an unknown weak acid by titration with a standard sodium hydroxide solution. The pH of the titration solution will be monitored using a pH meter. The resulting titration curve will then be used to determine the equivalent molecular weight and dissociation constant (Ka ) of the unknown weak acid. • 29. Pros And Cons Of Imunizing Children Immunizing Children One of the most controversial choices today is the choice to choose whether or not to immunize children. Things to take into consideration when making this decision are the risks involved in not immunizing children and some of the reasons against immunizing. The risks involved in not immunizing children is that the child will not be protected against serious illnesses and diseases. One of the reasons people choose not to immunize is that they are afraid it will traumatize or hurt their child, but it s one or two injection pricks, opposed to a life time of multiple blood draws and lumbar punctures (spinal taps) every time their child gets a rash or fever. If a child is not immunized they would need to be tested every time for the diseases every time they got sick. Another reason people choose against immunizations is a lack of health care. Though this is not so much choosing against the immunizations, it is more they do not have the resources to choose immunizations. But here in the United States children especially do not go without at least the basic health care. The United States is behind many countries on health care but we are also not a third world country. We do have access to great health care and we make it available to those in need. We have Medicaid, WIC (Womens, Infants, Childrens), we have free clinics and many more resources to make sure children are protected. The most common reason right now for people to choose ... In the story Our Secret by Susan Griffin, it talks about the connection of the past lives of those in Nazi Germany and about Griffin s own family. Griffin has also talked about an artist named Kathe Kollwitz. Kathe Kollwitz has created many self portraits relating and expressing the emotions of the people of Nazi Germany. During this time, many people have gone through hardships such as poverty and war. Through poverty some may have experience or gone through some emotional situations. During war, people may have lost someone close to them or even the peace they had before the chaos have occurred. Griffin has related a painting by Kollwitz with her personal life. In the story, Griffin is trying to portray through this connection how people feel emotionally and physically in the midst of war and violence. War and expressions of emotions are common themes in most great works of art. In the painting by Kollwitz called Poverty, it shows a woman holding her head in her hands. The woman is looking at an infant sleeping in its bed. You can see the light from the background shining through the window unto the baby. The, No Bread For Thanksgiving Joseph Nguyen MMBio 240 O Neil Sorry, No Bread for Thanksgiving A few centuries ago, doctors were observing a strange phenomenon: well fed children, no matter how much they were eating, were malnourished. The only known cure at this time was an all banana diet [later revised to an all fruit diet] (Gut). It wasn t until World War II that a cause was attributed to Gee Herter s disease the name of this unusual disorder. A shortage of grain led a Dutch pediatrician, Willem Karel Dicke, to draw the conclusion that wheat was the culprit (Gut). He made this connection when the death rate of children with this disease went from about 35% to 0% during the grain shortage (Sanghavi). Today, Gee Herter s disease, more commonly known as coeliac or celiac disease, is better understood. Advanced methods in molecular biology have allowed scientists to increase their knowledge of how coeliac disease works. Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disease, meaning that the body s immune system is responsible for the ill symptoms by attacking the body s cells. This is different from an allergy, in that basophils and eosinophil are specifically responsible for allergic responses (Celiac Disease Foundation). When an individual with coeliac disease consumes wheat, barley, or rye [which contain the protein gluten]; it triggers the immune system to attack the body.
