The Mysterious Jellicle Cats
The mysterious Jellicle cats with the glowing yellow eyes prowled slowly through
the aisles of the audience under the glimmering full moon, starting the performance
off with an eerie yet intriguing beginning. The musical I watched was CMT
Mainstage s performance of Cats, Les Chats cast. This famous show composed by
Andrew Lloyd Webber is the second longest running musical on Broadway, and it is
based on T. S. Eliot s conglomeration of poems, Old Possum s Book of Practical Cats.
Each musical number is the story of a different cat. Since it is based on an
assortment of rhymes, Cats doesn t have a single obvious lead role but instead
relies heavily upon ensemble singing and large group dance numbers. There was
very little spoken dialogue, but the storyline was beautifully communicated
nevertheless. The story begins with many felines coming onstage and singing about
the tribe of the Jellicle cats. The kitties of this group meet annually so that Old
Deuteronomy can determine which cat will soar off to Heaviside Layer and return
to a new life. A sleek white cat named Victoria announces the invitation to the
Jellicle ball in a grand musical number. One by one, the cats present themselves to
be chosen to ascend to Heaviside Layer with Old Deuteronomy, their leader. First of
all, there is Jennyanydots, the old Gumbie cat. She slumbers and reclines all day
long, growing plump on massive helpings of food. Next, the suave and pompous
tomcat known as the Rum Tum Tugger, bursts onto

INTRODUCTION
A trend very much in vogue to day in all democratic countries is that only a relatively
small part of the total legislative output emanates directly from the legislature. The
bulk of the legislation is promulgated by the executive and is known as Delegated
Legislation.
So a simple definition of Delegated Legislation is that its a type of law which can be
made quickly and is not made by Parliament or a law made by a person or a body to

Dehumanization of Ivan Denisovich Essay
Dehumanization is a psychological process when people view others as less than
human, thus making them feel like they are less deserving of moral consideration.
Ivan Denisovich and all of the men in Gang 104 are dehumanized by the Majors and
gang leaders at the labor camp HQ. In One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by
Alezksandr Solzhenitsyn, this Stalinist labor camp in which Shukhov is imprisoned
is designed to attack its prisoners physical and spiritual dignity, thus systematically
establishing the novel. The workers are physically dehumanized. They are constantly
pushing and shoving to get a bowl of what the Majors call soup . The fact that the
cook shouted though the hatch, and people were shoving them at him from the other...

It was no fur for them either (98).The occupants of the gang are not allowed to cover
their faces while they walk in negative thirty degree weather though snow and high
winds. It s as if the men are being punished before they start work, which is actually
their punishment. Inhumanity is also demonstrated when Solzhenitsyn writes if
they could fix the hoist now they could use it to bring up the bricks and mortar
(117). All day and everyday while Ivan and Gang 104 are constructing this power
plant building, there has been no hoist to carry the bricks to the top. This is
uncivilized because the hoist has been broken for eight years and, within eight
years, the hoist could have been fixed. By the hoist not being functional, the
workers feel less than human. Lastly, when Solzhenitsyn writes Shokhov got busy
and put another piece of pipe on top where the flue came out (125) this illustrates
inhumanity. Gang 104 received the task to rebuild the inside of the power plant.
Unfortunately, it does not need to be rebuilt; the task is just busy work. The
rebuilding of the power plant is extremely unnecessary because the officers chose
the job of Gang 104 knowing they would be working on this project for quite some
time. Inhumanity is not only displayed by how the zeks work, but is also
represented by how they get food and consume their food on a daily basis. How the
workers get their
Essay on Egyptian, Babylonian, And Hebrew Religions
Egyptian, Babylonian, and Hebrew Religions
Egyptians, Babylonians, and Hebrews have similarities yet also differences in their
religions. The importance is not in the similarities as much as it is in the differences
that distinguish the cultures from each other and their views on life. I would like to
point out each civilization s creation and flood story.
By analyzing these stories we can come to a better understanding of their world
views. The Hebrew creation story from the book of Genesis is one that most people
know well. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. The earth was
without form and void. God said, quot;let there be light, quot; and there was light. He
then separated the light from the darkness. He also ... Show more content on

Thus the physical universe was created. People were created from Ra s tears. Time
passed and Ra grew frail, so the ungrateful race of men plotted against Ra.
When Ra learned of this he called the gods together. The gods decided that
mankind must be destroyed. Tens of thousands of men were killed until only a few
were left. Then Ra relented and man was spared. Nevertheless Ra was sick of the
world and retreated into the heavens, leaving Shu to reign in his place.
At that time the present world was established. The Babylonians have their own
interpretation of the beginning. All things came from the water. From the mixture of
sweet water, Aspu, with salt water, Tiamat, the gods arose. Aspu and
Tiamat gave birth to a pair of gigantic serpents, Lakhmu and Lakhamu. These two
serpents produced Anshar and Kishar, the heavens and the earth. Anshar and
Kishar then conceived Anu, Enlil, and Ea. Aspu and Tiamat grew angry because
the younger gods were noisy. So, they decided to destroy the new gods. Ea, the all
knowing, learned of this plan and used his magic to capture Apsu. Tiamat became
furious and created and army of gods and monsters to punish Ea and the others.
Marduk was asked to stand against Tiamat and her army. Marduk promised to defeat
Tiamat if he was given supremacy over the gods. Marduk defeated
Tiamat and her army. While he was cutting up Tiamat s body he used half her body
and created the dome of the heavens. With the other half he made the earth.

Medea Essay
Euripides always expressed his point of views towards the culture of Ancient
Greeks, mostly hatred and enmity. However his safety was a major concern due to
the irrational behaviour of the ancient Greeks and his close friends and family
members. Thus he expressed his notions by giving speaking power to his characters.
Medeahas been given the same property. In Medea, Euripidesdiscusses exclusively
about the gender segregation and inequality. He criticises men for considering
themselves a dominant figure of the society. However this criticism is presented in
form of a tragedy which unfolds in the city of Corinth. Medea, a contrast of the
ancient Greek women, shows the empowerment and courage of women by executing
her own blood. After she was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This power provided her a strong base to plan for revenge from Jason. As mentioned,
her cruelty had no set boundaries and limitations. Thus she didn t hesitate to
continue with her cruel plan and murdered the princess in attempt to revenge
Jason. Executing her plan was a suicidal attempt and hence she managed to escape
due to her future planning. This symbolises the true ambition and desire of Medea
and her determination and so Euripides also conveys his ideology about women.
Medea, a distinct character conveys strong message across the audience and allows
them to reconsider the legal rights of women. Not in the modern era but in the
ancient times, recognition of women was a major dilemma for the society. Other
than that Euripides tries to justify Medea s evilness by providing reasons and by
letting Medea express her love for Jason. She chooses vengeance over law, this
doesn t only show the dignity of Medea, it also presents the deep emotions of hers
which conquered her mind and forced her to commit an unforgivable crime. After
all she did for Jason, she only asked for his loyalty and integrity. Upon Jason s
betrayal, Medea shattered into pieces as she trusted Jason and his moral values.
Jason s compelling behaviour turned Medea into an evil who later turns into a
murderer of the royal family and her own
Theories Of Progressive Education
Progressive Learning Theory in the US
Sarah Cooper Rashaell Keating
John Dewey s Progressive Learning Theory is defined as any various reformist
educational philosophies and methodologies since the late 1800s, applied especially
to elementary schools, that reject the rote recitation and strict discipline of traditional,
single classroom teaching, favoring instead more stimulation of the individual pupil
as well as group discussion, more informality in the classroom, a broader curriculum,
and use of laboratories, gymnasiums, etc. in the school. It is essentially an umbrella
theory for many theories that have contributed to what is known as, Progressive
Education.
Key Influences Friedrich Wilhelm August Fröbel (1782 1852) was a German
pedagogue and educator who first coined the term kindergarten in 1840. His main
contribution was realizing the importance of activity of the child, such as free work
and games, in learning and that each child learns differently and has different
capabilities. He was a student of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi (1746 1827) who felt that
individuals best learned through experiences and through a direct manipulation and
experience of objects and children were intrinsically motivated.
Johann Friedrich Herbart (1776 1841) was a German philosopher, psychologist and
founder of pedagogy as an academic discipline. According to Herbart, abilities were
not innate but could be instilled, so a thorough education could provide the
framework for moral and
Witch Hunts In The Salem Witch Trials
According to thoughtco.com the earliest know witch hunts were in B.C.E. The
Hebrew Scriptures addressed witchcraft, including Exodus 22:18 and various
verses in Leviticus and Deuteronomy. The history of witchcraft in Europe begins
with both folk beliefs and with religious and classical texts. The term witch hunt is
a campaign directed against a person or group holding unpopular views. In Europe
about 75% to 80% of those executed were women. It was also true that most of
those accused and executed were among the poorest, most marginal in society. In
some areas and times, mostly men were accused. Most of the men who were
accused or executed were connected with women who were arrested. The Salem
witch hunts began in 1692. The witch hunts in Salem started when a group of
young girls in Salem Village, Massachusetts, claimed to be possessed by the devil
and accused several local women of witchcraft. Abigail Williams was one of the
main accusers in the Salem Witch trials. Tituba was the first accused along with
Sarah Osborne and was also the first to confess. Elizabeth Parris was the daughter of
minister Samuel Parris. ElizabethВґs behavior led to the first three accusations of
witches. Rebecca Nurse was executed for witchcraft. Martha Corey was accused
and convicted of witchcraft during the Salem witch trials, alongside her second
husband, Giles Corey. Elizabeth Proctor was convicted of witchcraft in the Salem
Witch Trials of 1692. She was the wife of John Proctor, who was

her big sister. She wanted to dress like a girl all the time, even her familynoticed it.
Everybody said it was just a phase she was going through but it wasn t just a phase.
She always knew she was a girl. In an interview with Yahoo she said Although I

Jazz knew that she wasn t a boy she just felt it. When her parents started seeing that
she was different and accepted her for who she was. A big part of accepting herself
was her family. Although they were worried about her future about how kids would

an Environmental Protection Agency order requiring them to clean up the 26 acre

caused it to move its operation to Florida. The EPA believes the company knew of
the asbestos prior to 2012, when they sold the property. Beech Nut is refusing to

The Outlook For Children Foster Care During The U.s. Is...
The outlook for children in foster care in the U.S. is cause for alarm (Zetlin,
MacLeod, Kimm, 2012). Foster youth, otherwise known as youth who are ward of
the court, are one of the most at risk populations in areas such as physical and
emotional health, juvenile delinquencies and educational achievement. This is
primarily due to factors such as disruptive a history of abuse, school changes,
social stigma and isolation, lack of educational supports, disproportionately high
rates of special education services, and exclusionary disciplinary actions (Gallegos
White, 2013). Specific to education, foster youth are twice as likely to be
suspended and almost four times as likely to be expelled on a national scale
(Courtney, Terao, Bost, 2004). Additionally, approximately 30 50% of children in
care qualify for special education compared with 11.5% children not in foster care
(Zetlin, MacLeod, Kimm, 2012). As a result, interventions have been developed to
support foster youth to overcome such detrimental challenges in their academic
journey. To negate the educational consequences of undergoing the foster care
system, many higher education institutions have emplaced programs to encourage
the academic achievement and success of foster youth in higher education. One
such program is the Guardian Scholars Program (GSP) at Los Angeles Pierce
College (LAPC). The GSP aims to provide social, academic and financial support to
foster youth in order to reduce some of the more critical
Cecily Faenza Research Paper
Cecily Faenza grew up in Old Lyme, Connecticut and when it was time to choose a
college, she knew she wanted a big division one school with an emphasis on athletics.
The obvious choice as a Connecticut native was of course UConn. Faenza studied
communications while minoring in psychology. Faenza currently works for the New

postings across all social media platforms associated with the organization. When
Faenza started out as a student didn t even know she wanted to work in the sports
industry. Faenza began her career at UConn as an education major and fell into
communications. Faenza also stated she really didn t even know that sports
managementwas an actual major. Back when she was starting collegeFaenza said she
was not aware that you could in fact work in sport. It wasn t until her junior and
senior year that she realized that it was possible to have a career in sport. One of
Faenza s favorite memories as a student as UConn was illegally pitching a tent in
the business school bushes to be one of the first students in line for a UConn
Villanova game at Gampel. As graduation approached Faenza realized she didn t
have any connections to get the job she wanted and decided to go to graduate school.

Catalase Optimum Temperature
Catalase possesses a range of optimal temperatures depending on what organism
those cells belong to. Human catalase has an optimum temperature of around 45
degrees Celsius, whereas plants have a slightly lower optimal temperature for
catalase at around 37 40 degrees Celsius. Catalase works optimally at a neutral pH
between 6.8 7.5, allowing it to operate in nearly all types of cells. Catalase is
generally found in the peroxisomes of a cell, but can also be found elsewhere in
small quantities. Although catalase is found in all cells, it can be in varying
concentrations depending on where that cell is in the body; the liver possesses
higher levels of catalase compared to the rest of the body as it uses the enzyme not
only to break down hydrogen
Risk Assessment As A Way Of Profiling Risk
Risk refers to a likelihood, probability, a chance that a loss may occur in a given
organization. Most of the times, there is a high risk when there is vulnerability. In
this case, vulnerability refers to a weakness that the organization has. Risk
assessment refers to the process of identification of potential hazards and proper
analysis of the expected losses if those hazards occur (Homeland Security, n.d.). Risk
assessment as a way of profiling risk according to impact to the organization. Some
organizations have business impact analysis exercises geared towards determination
of potential hazards based risk assessmentapproaches. Organizations risk differ
depending on the size and the type of business they are doing. The disparity in
organizations risk call for different adaptation of risk assessment approaches. Even
with the disparities of the businesses, proper risk managementnot only ranks the risks
according to the seriousness but also identifies the best methods to control risks in an
organization.
Good risk assessment requires an elaborate plan. A risk management plan is a
project management type that helps ensure that an organization reaches desired
goals in a given project (Gibson, 2010). Like every plan, caution should be taken to
make sure that goals of the assessment are achievable given the best accommodation
of time and cost. This calls for organization to have a risk scope. Risk scope simply
identifies the boundaries of a given risk assessment. This is

The Left Hand of Darkness and The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas seems to

talks about one people s adventure and the other illustrates some facts about one city.
However, to a certain extent, this short article seems to be the miniature of the Left
Hand of Darkness and only different in some details and ways of expression.
Some of the people s characteristics, opinions, and even the plots from two different
pieces are similar to each other. To begin with, backgrounds of both works are
imaginary cities or countries, Winter Planet and Omelas , which are away from the
real world, locating in somewhere unknown. Based on the setting, both authors could

First of all, the reason that the kid sacrifices himself in order to protect the whole
country is different from Estraven s. The kid is forced to do so. He used to be
enveloped by his family s love, but now he has no choice but to be locked in the

not allowed to visit his mother, and maybe one day he will forget those questions
and get accustomed to the situation. Meanwhile, Estraven isn t the same. He did so

Planet, to ensure Ai successfully meets the king and contacts with his spaceship.
Moreover, the works are narrated in two different ways. In the article, author uses

The Importance Of My College Life
Predating my college life, I held a strong desire to understand complex
mathematical concepts. I would spend countless hours trying to get ahead of class,
to satisfy my curiosity on what awaited me in future lessons. At home, I studied and
did my homework by myself, as everyone was always busy. It was because of this,
that my progress in learningwas somewhat limited to grade specific workbooks that
my parents could buy and I could only self study to such an extent. However, my
father discovered a new way for me to excel. My father could not assist me in
doing my homework. Whenever he had time to help me he failed at breaking down
mathematical concepts. Often, he would complicate a simple problem and deviate
from the core question. After a while, he gave up on helping me with my homework
as our discussions would devolve into arguing about the best way to solve my
homework problems. He concluded that it had been years since he went to high
school, which I somewhat agreed. Instead, he bought me workbooks or educational
game software like Jumpstart to help me to keep up with math and other academic
subjects. Around fifth grade, he told me about something he heard on the radio: a site
changing the perception of education: Khan Academy. His eyes lit up as he told me
everything on the site was free and it was being financed by men like Bill Gates. My
father had piqued my interest with the word, free which motivated me to make an
account and start my learning experience with
Film Analysis Of The Movie The Bride Of Frankenstein
Making a good movie is easy but making a great movie is hard. As I watched a
short clip from the movie The Bride of Frankenstein I watched how the acting,
plot, lighting, camera work, and script all made this film come to life. This movie
was made in 1935 yet it is still so compelling to watch because it is successful with
the important components of a movie. The first thing I noticed about the short clip
was the lighting. As a photographer lighting is the most important thing about
pictures and films. I realized that the whole movie was very dark for the most part.
As I watched the short clip I saw harsh shadows on the background or on their faces
which gave a mysterious feeling. As a viewer it came off creepy, and kept thinking
was something about to pop out? The lighting was great when Pretorius says to Dr.
FrankensteinYou are responsible for all the murders, there is a dark shadow on Dr.
Frankenstein. As for Pretorius it seems like he has a halo of light around him. I have
a feeling that the lightening in this conversation was intentional. Dr. Frankenstein is
looked down, dark, and evil because he murdered people. While in this same
conversation it seems like Pretorius is the good guy in this situation even though they
both do not seem very good. All in all, the lighting was very intentional. If they put
soft/ airy lighting in this film, I do not think the message would come across and it
would not be as interesting than it was. Acting and script go hand on hand

Comparing Burgess and Draper s Theory of Family Violence and the Film, The
Burning Bed
I. Introduction
Burgess and Draper argue coercive patterns of family interaction represent the
principal causal pathway that connects ecological instability to violence within
families. They maintain this raises the possibility that some of the common correlates
of such violence are themselves reactions to sudden or chronic ecological
instability. For example, alcoholism, depression, and anxiety may be responses to
ecological stresses in the family, such as loss of employment, excessive financial
debt, or divorce. Burgess and Draper suggest that violence towards one s mate or
children may consequently be a direct result of ecological ... Show more content on

(Ohlin, 87)
Economic instability can also be a direct cause for child maltreatment. As resources
dwindle, Burgess and Draper suggest the survival of the fittest theory which
implies that if there is only enough food for three people and there are four
members in a household, it would be a waste to give the food to a member that is
not economically viable or unlikely to survive even with the food. This is a very
barbaric principle and does not reflect the cultural norms of today s American society.
Undoubtedly, in some places, this may occur but the maltreatment of the Hughes
children did not come in this form.
II. Emotional Reactions
As the social or family structure is changing, Burgess and Draper suggest a few
common feelings that men in particular may encounter. The first feeling is anxiety.
Change brings uncertainty especially if the person in question is not directly
influencing the change. Having someone inferior start a chain reaction that takes
away direct control, can be particularly debilitating to someone who has low self
esteem. This is one of the most common personality traits for abusers like Mickey
Hughes. (Ohlin, 89)
Burgess and Draper also say that wife batterers have an intrusive style , easily
angered, display extreme jealousy, fear of abandonment and violent out busts in
response to personal loss of authority. (Ohlin,

to do certain body positions to get him ready for the shot. Firstly he needs to figure
out where the shuttlecock is going; he needs the shuttlecock to be going up in the

what type of shot was played back to him. Next when he has figured out the shot
that has been played by his opponent he would adapt his forehand grip then turning
his body to stand sideways towards the net with his non racket arm facing the net

2.5 HISTORY OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AS INFUSED IN SCIENCE
EDUCATION
According to NCF 2005 The present status of Environmental Education (EE) in
schools had its genesis in the National Policy of Education (NPE) 1986 (modified in
1992), in which Protection of the Environment is stated as a common core around
which a National Curriculum Framework (NCF) would be woven. The National
Policy on Education 1986 emphasized the need to create awareness of environmental
concerns by integrating it in the educational process at all stages of education and for
all sections of society. Accordingly, the National Curriculum for Elementary and
Secondary Education: A Framework 1988 presented the NCERT s view: The school

Taking a Look at the Romantic Movement
The Romantic Movement was one of the shortest periods in British literary history,
starting in 1785 and ending in 1832, but it was also one of the most complex and
diverse of literary times due to social and cultural changes that were taking place.
Many political events provided the framework for this era, such as the major reform
of the British Parliament, America declaring their independence from Great Britain,
and the democratic revolution in France (Greenblatt 1412). Although politics played
a large role in shaping the Romantic Era, it was also largely about the recovery from
obscurity of the medieval romances, previously ignored by literary historians more
concerned with classical influences (Greenblatt 1412). Romantics wrote stories of
imagination, love, chivalry, nature, and adventure. A couple poets who greatly
influenced this literary movement were William Blake and Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
Blake and Coleridge s ideas and writing techniques were different from one another,
but both rejected the neoclassical style before them; they were advocates of a new
writing style in which they wrote about their similar political views, love of nature,
and mythological tales. Both romantics used nature in many of their works, but they
each viewed it in contrasting ways and used it differently throughout their writing.
Blake loved nature, but he thought of it only as a helper to the imagination. He
believed nature was meaningless without the imagination to humanize it. Most of
Harry Potter Hero Essay
In the book and movie series Harry Potter, the famous boy wizard goes through his
many years of schooling at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, making
new friends like his best friends, Ron and Hermione, as well as creating enemies
like Draco Malfoy. Along with his friends Ron and Hermione, Harry continuously
puts an end to the many different forms of the evil Lord Voldemort that tries to attack
Harry each year. It is later on in the series when the interactions with Lord Voldemort
become more frequent and more deadly. This is when Albus Dumbledore, the famous
Headmaster of Hogwarts, teaches, instructs, and guides Harry to his ultimate goal of
defeating Lord Voldemort, finally bringing peace to their world once again. In
relation to the Jungian Literary Archetypes, Harry Potterrepresents the Hero, Albus
Dumbledore represents the Wise Old Man, and Lord Voldemort represents the Witch
or Sorceress.
Harry Potter is the main character of all seven stories in the series, he represents a
hero in many different ways. When he was born, Lord Voldemort went to his home
and tried to murder him. Harry s parents defended against Voldemort, but they didn t
stand a chance. It was because of Harry s mother s love that saved his life when she
cast herself in between Voldemort and Harry. This unusual... Show more content on

The Ice Storm Chapter 1 Summary
Homework #11
1. Compared to Flashes of War, The Ice Storm by Rick Moody is completely
different from Katey Schultz s book. Not only be genre, but also by writing styles.
Reading through the first chapter I was a bit shocked with Moody s explicitness.
The book is very sexual and carries an uncomfortable vibe. The first character
introduced, Benjamin Hood, is an odd character to me. I ve never read a book with a
character like Benjamin. While the beginning has turned out to be a bit confusing for
me, after reading the first three chapters, I am curious as to how this book will
continue.
2. I believe Moody does this to give readers a look into current events and what it
was like living in the year 1972. It allows readers who were not living during the
seventies or too young to understand what was happening, trending, and important
during the time. I was confused when Moody wrote, No Nobel Peace Prize for 1972
(page 4). After doing some research I found out that the Nobel Prize was not awarded
nineteen times. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since each chapter is in the perspective of a different character, Moody gives the
readers insight to the characters specific feelings on same events. Elena s
perspective caught my attention the most. While reading in Elena s point of view
many questions arose for me about her. Elena is very closed off, she knows her
husband is cheating on her; her children are growing up and getting into dangerous
positions. Elena s backstory was incredibly interesting. None of her family ever
showed affection towards her. Her father was only there to pay bills and give her a
roof over her head, her mother was an alcoholic whom she only saw for a few
hours in the evening, and her brother raised her in an unethical way. Since Elena is
so closed off it makes me curious as to what her children think about her or why she
felt the responsibility of going to check on her mother every time she threatened to
commit suicide, even though her mother never showed her any
The Works of Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson s writing reflects the Realistic period through personal themes:
death, isolation, God, marriage, women in society, and love. Dickinson s writing is
affected by numerous factors. Among these are her family, the Realism period, and
her life experiences. Emily Dickinson herself was a sort of mystery.
Emily Dickinson s background had a profound effect on her writing. Family always
plays an important role in the upbringing of an individual. Her grandfather had a
prominent position in the founding of Amherst College. Her mother had a love for
learning and the sciences. Dickinson s father was an active member of the
community. He was often the host to many guests and/or lecturers. One of the guests
he hosted was Ralph Waldo Emerson. Unfortunately, Emily Dickinson s parents
were not often present in their children s lives. Due to the lack of constant parental
guidance, the Dickinson children often had to rely on themselves or each other.
Dickinson s older brother s name was William Austin. Her younger sister, Lavinia,
was later responsible for finding and publishing Dickinson s works. The family
typically kept to themselves, save when they hosted Mr. Dickinson s guests. Emily
Dickinson s life was filled with secrets that people speculated about. A common idea
was that Dickinson hid her true sexual orientation to keep scandal from befalling her
family. Though many wondered, no one knew the true reason Dickinson left the
seminary to isolate herself to focus on

Reduce Noise Pollution
After a busy day, the last thing you want to hear when you arrive at your house is
the outside noise coming from traffic, construction, or nearby neighbors. There are
many ways to keep the distracting outside noises from entering your home. Hiring
contractors to thickening drywall and seal gaps will help soundproof the walls and
ceilings in your home. Also, the installation of carpeting and other soft materials can
help mute noise from room to room. In addition, to quickly create a more relaxing
home environment, consider moving your television out of the main living space, or
wherever you spend the most time kicking back and relaxing. Televisions invade your
space with loud and annoying commercials, news, and other distracting sounds and
images. Sometimes to get the best relaxation you have to disconnect yourself from

The Cause Of The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Incident
The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Incident was a tragic event that occured due to
poor safety precautions. It occured in New York City on March 25, 1911 on the
eighth and ninth floors of the Asch building and it is the deadliest industrial
disaster of that city and it also considered one of the deadliest in US History. The
factory normally employed about 500 workers, mostly young immigrant women,
who worked nine hours a day on weekdays plus seven hours on Saturdays earning 2
dollars for a 14 hour work day. Several events led up to the Triangle Shirtwaist
Factory Incident. Many workers were demanding shorter hours, better pay, and
safer shops, so they formed a labor union. However, the owners did not want to
succeed to the labor union s pleads and demands because they were terrified that
unions would diminish their authority over the workplace. Despite the owners
unwillingness, many of them succeeded to the labor unions demands because
there was a lot of strikes in companies and they needed their workers for the
upcoming busy work season. However, the owners of the Triangle Shirtwaist
Factory: Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, did not want to succeed to those pleads
because their profits were declining and they did not have enough resources to
please the workers demands. The company sales were declining because their style
of clothing was antiquated and it could not keep up with the new extravagant fashion
trends. There was also a lot of competition from the 500 blouse makers

Pursuing Love In A Midsummer Night s Dream
A Midsummer Night s Dream supports the idea that pursuing love can take over the
person s action. In the play there were four characters in a love triangle, where the
actions that seemed irrational were presented out of them. The character who best
represents the idea that love can blind people to their actions is Helena. She seemed
very desperate for him in the play by chasing him around. Helena showed that, loveis

Southern Distinctiveness
The Lowland South is one of the more distinctive regions in the US. Language
accents are stronger and more diverse here than in any other part of the country.
Politics and religion are more conservative and fundamental than elsewhere.
Historically, settlement occurred later than in the North and at much lower densities.
African slaves were brought in to relieve the problems of under population. Today, the
Caribbean has become a major focus of the region s international trade and
immigration.

A high pressure system sits much of the year over the Atlantic Ocean between Florida
and north Africa. Known as the Bermuda High (and bringing great weather to
Bermuda most of time), this high pressure system circulates in a clockwise direction,
moving warm air from the equator into the South.
In the winter, this flow is occasionally broken by thrusts of cold arctic air from the
middle of the continent. (The cooler winter temperatures is what distinguishes the
Humid Subtropical climate from the year round Humid Tropical climate.) The Gulf
Coast, including Florida, receives the most precipitation (averaging 50 inches of
rainfall a year) and the warmest temperatures. The inland portions of the South
receive precipitation levels of 40 inches a year, while further north the Midwest
region averages 30 inches a year. Changing Images
Non Southerners have traditionally held rather negative images of the Lowland South
as a place of racial conflict, intolerable climate, and underdevelopment, yet, in recent
years, the South has grown as a major part of the Sunbelt. It is a distinct region which
is undergoing considerable dynamic change in the postindustrial US.

Chinese Immigration Railroads
The railroads had a unique opportunity to shape settlement in the region. To build the
railroad Americans chose Chinese immigrants because these people were a hard
worker and building the railroad was a hard job. During the gilded age, each year
almost a million southern and eastern immigrants came in to the united statesand
crowded in to cities specially in New York, Boston, Chicago, and, Philadelphia.
Americans stated that these immigrants are poor and could not learn English. The
fact that these immigrants were Jewish, orthodox or catholic, made protestant
Americans dislike these new immigrants. Also, Americans had a unique hatred for
the new Chinese immigrants who worked long hours of labor for low ages. At that
time, Chinese people were inexpensive labor the real road chose them so they can

On May 10, 1869 Americans celebrated the first rail road crossing north America.
The Union Pacific reached westward from Omaha, Nebraska and central pacific.
This real road helped to transport horses and men west in the battle with Native

access to bison and they were able to harvest animals in easy way. After the civil

The Generation Of The New Generation
The unknown future may be frightening, but knowing the Millennials are the next
generation of leaders to change the world should be comforting. Millennials make
up the population of society that was born between 1980 and 2000 and in America
there are more millennials right now than baby boomers more than 80 million
(Simmons Duffit). Just like every new generation, the Millennials have been
endlessly criticized by older generations. They have been called lazy, entitled, self
absorbed, social media crazed, technology addicts, privileged, and so much more.
This generation change has drawn more public attention than ever before, maybe
because of the access to widespread information nowadays or maybe because this
time, it s a bigger deal. Millennials aren t afraid to address this topic because they
believe that they can change the world for the better. They want the judgements in
communities and the criticisms in the workplace to stop. They want society to
realize they are not so different from generations before, they are already
transforming life as we know it, and that they will soon be the next generation of
leaders and nothing can change that. Although Millennials can be perceived in
multiple negative aspects, older generations should be open to the unique potential
that this massive generation has to offer as an opportunity to close the gap of
separation and learn to grow from each other. One of the most common criticism of
Millennials is their tendency to be lazy.

1 Introducing the limits of confidentiality in simple language that a client can
understand is the first step in establishing the therapeutic relationship. ?Confidently
should be explained to all potential clients with the general understanding that any
information gained from the counseling relationship is kept confidential. They
must also share that there are limitations when it comes to safety concerns.
Examples of these limitations would be if the professional has a concern that the
clients are at a risk of harming themself, someone else, or if they are posing a risk
to the counselor. There are additional reasons why a counselor will have to break
confidentiality in cases when there is a confession that is ordered by the court or

client has filed a complaint towards their counselor (Martin, Shepard Lehr, 2015).
Working within the confines of consulting or private practice the Canadian

any information accumulated, and any limits of confidentiality (2015). More
Beach Metal Detecting Research Paper
Metal detecting on beaches is a popular hobby shared by many people. It is fun and
easy, and your chances of finding some treasure are good. Treasure hunting
happens in all types of environment, but beach metal detecting is one of the more
common locations for people who enjoy this activity. Many people lose something
when they go to a beach. You could be lucky enough to reap the rewards. A coin,
ring or other small object dropped in the sand disappears quickly. People can drop
coins, keys or other items while lounging around or playing in the sand. Someone
can easily lose things playing in the water after applying slippery sunscreen.
Although you may not find something every time you go out, imagine the
excitement of finding a piece of gold jewelry or a hundred year old coin. Great
finds, easy recovery and pleasant surroundings make the beach a perfect location
for finding lost treasure. Finding a buried coin or piece of jewelry in the clean sand
found on most beaches makes detecting fun for beginners and experienced hunters.
Make sure you have the right kind of metal detector for the area you are hunting.

Poppy Flower In The Great Gatsby

even the beginning of time and prevailing during even the grimmest of situations.
In 1920, two years after the end of WWI, a now hailed woman by the name of
Moina Michael began a tradition that would last for years to come. She, like so
many others, had been deeply affected by the war and, inspired by the poem In
Flanders Fields, proposed presenting the poppyfloweras a symbol of remembrance of
those who had given their lives to the war. This small proposal led to the poppy
flower being worn every Armistice day. It became a tribute to those who were strong

Wilson is one of the smallest yet most important people in all of The Great Gatsby.
He is claimed by his wife, Myrtle, to be a dirty little coward, which is most likely
one of the reasons she leaves him in the dust behind her (137). This statement
establishes the fact that Wilson has a weakness of living almost in fear. However,
this fear backfires when Wilson finds a beautiful, silver dog collar. After finding it,
he jumps to the conclusion that it was a gift to his wife from a lover. Due to this
realization, he locks Myrtle in her room and plans to move West, proving that he
had more strength than she had anticipated. However, he does not have the
emotional strength to follow through with it, and in a fit of hysteria, Myrtle runs
into the road and is instantly killed after being run over by a car. He was so fearful
of her that he did not stop her, and so ignorant that he did not realize his situation
until death came knocking at his door. As it is gracefully put by Tom, He s so
dumb he doesn t know he s alive (26). After Myrtle s death, something changes
inside of him, something snaps, and it is best explained through the words of one
of Wilson s neighbors, Michaelis: He was his wife s man, not his own (137). After
placing so much into Myrtle and allowing himself to be completely taken over by
her, her death caused him to lose a sense of identity
All Creatures Great And Small By James Herriot
Introduction
All Creatures Great and Small was James Herriot s first book to be published in the
United States. In this book, the mature Herriot tells about his youthful self, when he
graduated from veterinary school and began working in rural veterinary practice.
The narrator like the reader is able to laugh at his naГЇvetГ© of Herriot, as well as at
the people who surround him, including Siegfried Farnon, and his brother, Tristan
Farnon. This memoir of James Herriot flashes the simple and laid back lives of the
countryside folks. It exhibits their struggles, cultures, etiquette, hardships and
relationships. The stories that are depicted in this book is loosely based on Herriot s
life as a young veterinarian in the rough English countryside pre WWII. There he
encounters many different people and animals from dogs and cats to livestock.
From the first day of Herriot s arrival at Skeldale House, being greeted by a troop of
leaping, barking dogs, to the week of tuberculin testing that brings the book to a close,
we share the moments of joy, laughter, tears, nerves, confidence, mix ups, and
triumphs involved in his Yorkshireveterinary practice of the 1930s. We meet the
eccentric Siegfried Farnon and the carefree Tristan Farnon and many interesting
people around the Dales, not to mention those marvellous animals who shall live on

Psalm 23 Personal Narrative
Today made it 4 months, 4 weeks and 6 hours since we got off the helicopter and

was handed a rifle and some piece of encouragements. I remembered that final night

Sean: Hey newbie! He calls me that when he is either drunk or wants to get me mad.
Well, tonight he was a bit tipsy from the words he spoke.
Nate: Sean, can t wait to get out there on the field and make my country proud. I

Human Digestive System
Human Digestive System
Single celled organisms can directly take in nutrients from their outside environment.
Multi cellular animals, with most of their cells removed from contact directly with
the outside environment, have developed specialized structures for obtaining and
breaking down their food. The human digestive system is a complex series of organs
and glands that processes food. It is a coiled, muscular tube (6 9 meters long when
fully extended) extending from the mouth to the anus. Inside this tube is a lining
called the mucosa. In the mouth, stomach, and small intestine, the mucosa contains
tiny glands that produce juices to help digest food. This tube also includes the
pharynx, esophagus, large intestine, and anus. ... Show more content on

At the junction of the esophagus and stomach, there is a ring like valve closing the
passage between the two organs. However, as the food approaches the closed ring,
the surrounding muscles relax and allow the food to pass. We can also swallow the
food upside down because the muscles around the esophagus are strong enough to
push the food up to our stomach.
The food then enters the stomach, a sack that receives the food from the
esophagus. The stomach is located just below the heart. It has three mechanical
tasks to do. First, the stomach stores the swallowed food and liquid. This requires
the muscle of the upper part of the stomach to relax and accept large volumes of
swallowed material. The second job is to mix up the food, liquid, and digestive juice
(acids and enzymes that help to break the food down into a thick liquid or paste
called chyme) produced by the stomach. The lower part of the stomach mixes these
materials by its muscle action. The third task of the stomach is to empty its contents
slowly into the small intestine. Food usually remains in the stomach for about two
hours.
After leaving the stomach the food enters the small intestine. The small intestine is a
20 to 25 foot tube that is coiled up in the abdomen. The center of the small intestine is
right behind our belly button. The most important part of digestion takes place in the
small intestine. As the thick liquid food paste travels
Relationship Between Father And Fate In The Odyssey
Father and Son Relationships Determine Fate and Destiny The Odyssey, by Homer,
is one of the most influential texts of Western literature and it is paralleled to The
Aeneid, by Virgil. Father and son relationships are very important to Greek culture, as
evident in the relationship between Odysseus and TelГ©makhos in The Odyssey.
Hundreds of years after The Odyssey was transcribed, Virgil continued to recognize
the importance of the father and son relationship and he incorporated it into The
Aeneidby focusing on Anchises and Aeneas. Both epics revolve around and delve
into the valued father and son relationship. This relationship is so important to Greek
and Roman culture that it has an effect on the idea of fate and destiny. Throughout
The Odyssey and The Aeneid, the relationship between the father and son is
responsible for determining their fate and destiny.
The fate of Odysseus and Anchises is thoroughly influenced by their respective sons.
Throughout Odysseus s journey, Odysseus wants to give up because of all the
hardships he has to face. His son, TelГ©makhos, serves as his motivation for
coming home and drives his will to live and fight his hardships at sea. At one point,
Odysseus considers giving up so he will not need to face the sea raging/ under such
winds anymore (Homer 5.314 315). In spite of his moment of weakness, he continues
to fight for his destiny of homecoming to reunite with his son. TelГ©makhos
encourages Odysseus to achieve his destiny. Likewise,

Some recalled if your relatives or your friends knew that you were working in
Roaring Dragon, you would be admired , it was a good work unit danwei , and you
were lucky if you worked there 3.
The original Hotel was a four storey, rectangular, grey structure built in 1960 in a dull
Russian style. By 1993, the provincial government had funded a new extension and
the Hotel now consisted of two parts: the old four storey section joined by a modern
sixteen storey extension perched on a hill behind the old Russian. There was a
contrast in the standard of accommodation. Room rates were cheaper in the old
section and so it attracted Chinese visitors searching for quality economy
accommodation. Visiting government officials and higher end customers on the
other hand felt more comfortable in the newer and naturally more expensive section.
There were two guarded entrances to the Hotel, one on each level. A series of
stairways, elevators and a warren of banquet rooms, hallways, storage areas, offices,
cafeterias, and a laundry untidily connected the two buildings.
Reflection on a 1993 Experience
The Roaring Dragon was a Chinese managed SOE until the opening of the new
extension in 1993 when the provincial government decided to contract an
international company to manage the Hotel with the objective of improving the
quality of customer service. KYZ Corporation was identified as a suitable
international management organisation and was

How To Write An Interview Essay Writing an essay on the topic "How To Write An Interview Essay" can be a challenging task that requires a careful balance of technical knowledge and creative expression. The difficulty arises from the need to not only understand the intricacies of conducting an interview but also effectively conveying the information gleaned in a coherent and engaging manner. Firstly, one must have a solid grasp of the interview process itself. This involves knowing how to choose an appropriate interviewee, formulate insightful questions, and conduct the interview in a professional and respectful manner. Once the interview is complete, the challenge shifts to organizing and structuring the gathered information. Crafting a compelling narrative that captures the essence of the interviewee's perspective while maintaining the essay's flow and coherence can be intricate. This requires careful consideration of the sequence of events, the significance of each response, and the overall message the essay aims to convey. • 2. The Mysterious Jellicle Cats The mysterious Jellicle cats with the glowing yellow eyes prowled slowly through the aisles of the audience under the glimmering full moon, starting the performance off with an eerie yet intriguing beginning. The musical I watched was CMT Mainstage s performance of Cats, Les Chats cast. This famous show composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber is the second longest running musical on Broadway, and it is based on T. S. Eliot s conglomeration of poems, Old Possum s Book of Practical Cats. Each musical number is the story of a different cat. Since it is based on an assortment of rhymes, Cats doesn t have a single obvious lead role but instead relies heavily upon ensemble singing and large group dance numbers. There was very little spoken dialogue, but the storyline was beautifully communicated nevertheless. The story begins with many felines coming onstage and singing about the tribe of the Jellicle cats. The kitties of this group meet annually so that Old Deuteronomy can determine which cat will soar off to Heaviside Layer and return to a new life. A sleek white cat named Victoria announces the invitation to the Jellicle ball in a grand musical number. One by one, the cats present themselves to be chosen to ascend to Heaviside Layer with Old Deuteronomy, their leader. First of all, there is Jennyanydots, the old Gumbie cat. She slumbers and reclines all day long, growing plump on massive helpings of food. Next, the suave and pompous tomcat known as the Rum Tum Tugger, bursts onto

  • 4. Dehumanization of Ivan Denisovich Essay Dehumanization is a psychological process when people view others as less than human, thus making them feel like they are less deserving of moral consideration. Ivan Denisovich and all of the men in Gang 104 are dehumanized by the Majors and gang leaders at the labor camp HQ. In One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alezksandr Solzhenitsyn, this Stalinist labor camp in which Shukhov is imprisoned is designed to attack its prisoners physical and spiritual dignity, thus systematically establishing the novel. It was no fur for them either (98).The occupants of the gang are not allowed to cover their faces while they walk in negative thirty degree weather though snow and high winds. It s as if the men are being punished before they start work, which is actually their punishment. Inhumanity is also demonstrated when Solzhenitsyn writes if they could fix the hoist now they could use it to bring up the bricks and mortar (117). All day and everyday while Ivan and Gang 104 are constructing this power plant building, there has been no hoist to carry the bricks to the top. This is uncivilized because the hoist has been broken for eight years and, within eight years, the hoist could have been fixed. By the hoist not being functional, the workers feel less than human. Lastly, when Solzhenitsyn writes Shokhov got busy and put another piece of pipe on top where the flue came out (125) this illustrates inhumanity. Gang 104 received the task to rebuild the inside of the power plant. Unfortunately, it does not need to be rebuilt; the task is just busy work. The rebuilding of the power plant is extremely unnecessary because the officers chose the job of Gang 104 knowing they would be working on this project for quite some time. Inhumanity is not only displayed by how the zeks work, but is also represented by how they get food and consume their food on a daily basis. How the workers get their

The importance is not in the similarities as much as it is in the differences that distinguish the cultures from each other and their views on life. I would like to point out each civilization s creation and flood story. By analyzing these stories we can come to a better understanding of their world views. The Hebrew creation story from the book of Genesis is one that most people know well. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. The earth was without form and void. Thus the physical universe was created. People were created from Ra s tears. Time passed and Ra grew frail, so the ungrateful race of men plotted against Ra. When Ra learned of this he called the gods together. The gods decided that mankind must be destroyed. Tens of thousands of men were killed until only a few were left. Then Ra relented and man was spared. Nevertheless Ra was sick of the world and retreated into the heavens, leaving Shu to reign in his place. At that time the present world was established. The Babylonians have their own interpretation of the beginning. All things came from the water. From the mixture of sweet water, Aspu, with salt water, Tiamat, the gods arose. Aspu and Tiamat gave birth to a pair of gigantic serpents, Lakhmu and Lakhamu. These two serpents produced Anshar and Kishar, the heavens and the earth. Anshar and Kishar then conceived Anu, Enlil, and Ea. Aspu and Tiamat grew angry because the younger gods were noisy. So, they decided to destroy the new gods. Ea, the all knowing, learned of this plan and used his magic to capture Apsu. Tiamat became furious and created and army of gods and monsters to punish Ea and the others. Marduk was asked to stand against Tiamat and her army. Marduk promised to defeat Tiamat if he was given supremacy over the gods. Marduk defeated Tiamat and her army. While he was cutting up Tiamat s body he used half her body and created the dome of the heavens. With the other half he made the earth. Then to

Thus she didn t hesitate to continue with her cruel plan and murdered the princess in attempt to revenge Jason. This symbolises the true ambition and desire of Medea and her determination and so Euripides also conveys his ideology about women. Medea, a distinct character conveys strong message across the audience and allows them to reconsider the legal rights of women. Not in the modern era but in the ancient times, recognition of women was a major dilemma for the society. Other than that Euripides tries to justify Medea s evilness by providing reasons and by letting Medea express her love for Jason. She chooses vengeance over law, this doesn t only show the dignity of Medea, it also presents the deep emotions of hers which conquered her mind and forced her to commit an unforgivable crime. After all she did for Jason, she only asked for his loyalty and integrity. Upon Jason s betrayal, Medea shattered into pieces as she trusted Jason and his moral values. Jason s compelling behaviour turned Medea into an evil who later turns into a murderer of the royal family and her own

Theories Of Progressive Education Progressive Learning Theory in the US Sarah Cooper Rashaell Keating John Dewey s Progressive Learning Theory is defined as any various reformist educational philosophies and methodologies since the late 1800s, applied especially to elementary schools, that reject the rote recitation and strict discipline of traditional, single classroom teaching, favoring instead more stimulation of the individual pupil as well as group discussion, more informality in the classroom, a broader curriculum, and use of laboratories, gymnasiums, etc. in the school. It is essentially an umbrella theory for many theories that have contributed to what is known as, Progressive Education. His main contribution was realizing the importance of activity of the child, such as free work and games, in learning and that each child learns differently and has different capabilities. He was a student of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi (1746 1827) who felt that individuals best learned through experiences and through a direct manipulation and experience of objects and children were intrinsically motivated. • 12. The Outlook For Children Foster Care During The U.s. Is... The outlook for children in foster care in the U.S. is cause for alarm (Zetlin, MacLeod, Kimm, 2012). Foster youth, otherwise known as youth who are ward of the court, are one of the most at risk populations in areas such as physical and emotional health, juvenile delinquencies and educational achievement. This is primarily due to factors such as disruptive a history of abuse, school changes, social stigma and isolation, lack of educational supports, disproportionately high rates of special education services, and exclusionary disciplinary actions (Gallegos White, 2013). Specific to education, foster youth are twice as likely to be suspended and almost four times as likely to be expelled on a national scale (Courtney, Terao, Bost, 2004). Additionally, approximately 30 50% of children in care qualify for special education compared with 11.5% children not in foster care (Zetlin, MacLeod, Kimm, 2012). As a result, interventions have been developed to support foster youth to overcome such detrimental challenges in their academic journey. To negate the educational consequences of undergoing the foster care system, many higher education institutions have emplaced programs to encourage the academic achievement and success of foster youth in higher education. One such program is the Guardian Scholars Program (GSP) at Los Angeles Pierce College (LAPC). The GSP aims to provide social, academic and financial support to foster youth in order to reduce some of the more critical

Like every plan, caution should be taken to make sure that goals of the assessment are achievable given the best accommodation of time and cost. This calls for organization to have a risk scope. It was because of this, that my progress in learningwas somewhat limited to grade specific workbooks that my parents could buy and I could only self study to such an extent. However, my father discovered a new way for me to excel. My father could not assist me in doing my homework. Whenever he had time to help me he failed at breaking down mathematical concepts. Often, he would complicate a simple problem and deviate from the core question. After a while, he gave up on helping me with my homework as our discussions would devolve into arguing about the best way to solve my homework problems. He concluded that it had been years since he went to high school, which I somewhat agreed. This movie was made in 1935 yet it is still so compelling to watch because it is successful with the important components of a movie. The first thing I noticed about the short clip was the lighting. As a photographer lighting is the most important thing about pictures and films. I realized that the whole movie was very dark for the most part. As I watched the short clip I saw harsh shadows on the background or on their faces which gave a mysterious feeling. As a viewer it came off creepy, and kept thinking was something about to pop out? The lighting was great when Pretorius says to Dr. FrankensteinYou are responsible for all the murders, there is a dark shadow on Dr. Frankenstein. As for Pretorius it seems like he has a halo of light around him. I have a feeling that the lightening in this conversation was intentional. Dr. Frankenstein is looked down, dark, and evil because he murdered people. While in this same conversation it seems like Pretorius is the good guy in this situation even though they both do not seem very good. All in all, the lighting was very intentional. If they put soft/ airy lighting in this film, I do not think the message would come across and it would not be as interesting than it was. Acting and script go hand on hand

Introduction Burgess and Draper argue coercive patterns of family interaction represent the principal causal pathway that connects ecological instability to violence within families. They maintain this raises the possibility that some of the common correlates of such violence are themselves reactions to sudden or chronic ecological instability. For example, alcoholism, depression, and anxiety may be responses to ecological stresses in the family, such as loss of employment, excessive financial debt, or divorce. As resources dwindle, Burgess and Draper suggest the survival of the fittest theory which implies that if there is only enough food for three people and there are four members in a household, it would be a waste to give the food to a member that is not economically viable or unlikely to survive even with the food. This is a very barbaric principle and does not reflect the cultural norms of today s American society. Undoubtedly, in some places, this may occur but the maltreatment of the Hughes children did not come in this form. II. Emotional Reactions As the social or family structure is changing, Burgess and Draper suggest a few common feelings that men in particular may encounter. The first feeling is anxiety. Change brings uncertainty especially if the person in question is not directly influencing the change. Having someone inferior start a chain reaction that takes away direct control, can be particularly debilitating to someone who has low self esteem. This is one of the most common personality traits for abusers like Mickey Hughes. The National Policy on Education 1986 emphasized the need to create awareness of environmental concerns by integrating it in the educational process at all stages of education and for all sections of society. Accordingly, the National Curriculum for Elementary and Secondary Education: A Framework 1988 presented the NCERT s view: The school curriculum should highlight the measures for protection and care of the environment, prevention of pollution and conservation of energy. Taking a Look at the Romantic Movement The Romantic Movement was one of the shortest periods in British literary history, starting in 1785 and ending in 1832, but it was also one of the most complex and diverse of literary times due to social and cultural changes that were taking place. Many political events provided the framework for this era, such as the major reform of the British Parliament, America declaring their independence from Great Britain, and the democratic revolution in France (Greenblatt 1412). Although politics played a large role in shaping the Romantic Era, it was also largely about the recovery from obscurity of the medieval romances, previously ignored by literary historians more concerned with classical influences (Greenblatt 1412). Romantics wrote stories of imagination, love, chivalry, nature, and adventure. A couple poets who greatly influenced this literary movement were William Blake and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Blake and Coleridge s ideas and writing techniques were different from one another, but both rejected the neoclassical style before them; they were advocates of a new writing style in which they wrote about their similar political views, love of nature, and mythological tales. Both romantics used nature in many of their works, but they each viewed it in contrasting ways and used it differently throughout their writing. Blake loved nature, but he thought of it only as a helper to the imagination. He believed nature was meaningless without the imagination to humanize it. Most of

  • 25. The Ice Storm Chapter 1 Summary Homework #11 1. Compared to Flashes of War, The Ice Storm by Rick Moody is completely different from Katey Schultz s book. Not only be genre, but also by writing styles. Reading through the first chapter I was a bit shocked with Moody s explicitness. The book is very sexual and carries an uncomfortable vibe. The first character introduced, Benjamin Hood, is an odd character to me. I ve never read a book with a character like Benjamin. While the beginning has turned out to be a bit confusing for me, after reading the first three chapters, I am curious as to how this book will continue. 2. I believe Moody does this to give readers a look into current events and what it was like living in the year 1972. It allows readers who were not living during the seventies or too young to understand what was happening, trending, and important during the time. I was confused when Moody wrote, No Nobel Peace Prize for 1972 (page 4). After doing some research I found out that the Nobel Prize was not awarded nineteen times. ... Elena s perspective caught my attention the most. While reading in Elena s point of view many questions arose for me about her. Elena is very closed off, she knows her husband is cheating on her; her children are growing up and getting into dangerous positions. Elena s backstory was incredibly interesting. None of her family ever showed affection towards her. Her father was only there to pay bills and give her a roof over her head, her mother was an alcoholic whom she only saw for a few hours in the evening, and her brother raised her in an unethical way. Since Elena is so closed off it makes me curious as to what her children think about her or why she felt the responsibility of going to check on her mother every time she threatened to commit suicide, even though her mother never showed her any

Dickinson s writing is affected by numerous factors. Among these are her family, the Realism period, and her life experiences. Emily Dickinson herself was a sort of mystery. Emily Dickinson s background had a profound effect on her writing. Family always plays an important role in the upbringing of an individual. Her grandfather had a prominent position in the founding of Amherst College. Her mother had a love for learning and the sciences. Dickinson s father was an active member of the community. He was often the host to many guests and/or lecturers. One of the guests he hosted was Ralph Waldo Emerson. Unfortunately, Emily Dickinson s parents were not often present in their children s lives. Due to the lack of constant parental guidance, the Dickinson children often had to rely on themselves or each other. Dickinson s older brother s name was William Austin. Her younger sister, Lavinia, was later responsible for finding and publishing Dickinson s works. The family typically kept to themselves, save when they hosted Mr. Dickinson s guests. Emily Dickinson s life was filled with secrets that people speculated about. A common idea was that Dickinson hid her true sexual orientation to keep scandal from befalling her family. Though many wondered, no one knew the true reason Dickinson left the seminary to isolate herself to focus on

It occured in New York City on March 25, 1911 on the eighth and ninth floors of the Asch building and it is the deadliest industrial disaster of that city and it also considered one of the deadliest in US History. The factory normally employed about 500 workers, mostly young immigrant women, who worked nine hours a day on weekdays plus seven hours on Saturdays earning 2 dollars for a 14 hour work day. Several events led up to the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Incident. Many workers were demanding shorter hours, better pay, and safer shops, so they formed a labor union. However, the owners did not want to succeed to the labor union s pleads and demands because they were terrified that unions would diminish their authority over the workplace. Despite the owners unwillingness, many of them succeeded to the labor unions demands because there was a lot of strikes in companies and they needed their workers for the upcoming busy work season. However, the owners of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory: Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, did not want to succeed to those pleads because their profits were declining and they did not have enough resources to please the workers demands. The company sales were declining because their style of clothing was antiquated and it could not keep up with the new extravagant fashion trends. There was also a lot of competition from the 500 blouse makers

Millennials make up the population of society that was born between 1980 and 2000 and in America there are more millennials right now than baby boomers more than 80 million (Simmons Duffit). Just like every new generation, the Millennials have been endlessly criticized by older generations. They have been called lazy, entitled, self absorbed, social media crazed, technology addicts, privileged, and so much more. This generation change has drawn more public attention than ever before, maybe because of the access to widespread information nowadays or maybe because this time, it s a bigger deal. Millennials aren t afraid to address this topic because they believe that they can change the world for the better. They want the judgements in communities and the criticisms in the workplace to stop. They want society to realize they are not so different from generations before, they are already transforming life as we know it, and that they will soon be the next generation of leaders and nothing can change that. Although Millennials can be perceived in multiple negative aspects, older generations should be open to the unique potential that this massive generation has to offer as an opportunity to close the gap of separation and learn to grow from each other. One of the most common criticism of Millennials is their tendency to be lazy.

This statement establishes the fact that Wilson has a weakness of living almost in fear. However, this fear backfires when Wilson finds a beautiful, silver dog collar. After finding it, he jumps to the conclusion that it was a gift to his wife from a lover. Due to this realization, he locks Myrtle in her room and plans to move West, proving that he had more strength than she had anticipated. Multi cellular animals, with most of their cells removed from contact directly with the outside environment, have developed specialized structures for obtaining and breaking down their food. The human digestive system is a complex series of organs and glands that processes food. It is a coiled, muscular tube (6 9 meters long when fully extended) extending from the mouth to the anus. Inside this tube is a lining called the mucosa. In the mouth, stomach, and small intestine, the mucosa contains tiny glands that produce juices to help digest food. This tube also includes the pharynx, esophagus, large intestine, and anus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the junction of the esophagus and stomach, there is a ring like valve closing the passage between the two organs. However, as the food approaches the closed ring, the surrounding muscles relax and allow the food to pass. We can also swallow the food upside down because the muscles around the esophagus are strong enough to push the food up to our stomach. The food then enters the stomach, a sack that receives the food from the esophagus. The stomach is located just below the heart. It has three mechanical tasks to do. First, the stomach stores the swallowed food and liquid. This requires the muscle of the upper part of the stomach to relax and accept large volumes of swallowed material. The second job is to mix up the food, liquid, and digestive juice (acids and enzymes that help to break the food down into a thick liquid or paste called chyme) produced by the stomach. The lower part of the stomach mixes these materials by its muscle action. The third task of the stomach is to empty its contents slowly into the small intestine. Food usually remains in the stomach for about two hours. After leaving the stomach the food enters the small intestine. The small intestine is a 20 to 25 foot tube that is coiled up in the abdomen. The center of the small intestine is right behind our belly button. The most important part of digestion takes place in the small intestine. As the thick liquid food paste travels

Relationship Between Father And Fate In The Odyssey Father and Son Relationships Determine Fate and Destiny The Odyssey, by Homer, is one of the most influential texts of Western literature and it is paralleled to The Aeneid, by Virgil. Father and son relationships are very important to Greek culture, as evident in the relationship between Odysseus and TelГ©makhos in The Odyssey. Hundreds of years after The Odyssey was transcribed, Virgil continued to recognize the importance of the father and son relationship and he incorporated it into The Aeneidby focusing on Anchises and Aeneas. Both epics revolve around and delve into the valued father and son relationship. This relationship is so important to Greek and Roman culture that it has an effect on the idea of fate and destiny. Throughout The Odyssey and The Aeneid, the relationship between the father and son is responsible for determining their fate and destiny. The fate of Odysseus and Anchises is thoroughly influenced by their respective sons. Throughout Odysseus s journey, Odysseus wants to give up because of all the hardships he has to face. His son, TelГ©makhos, serves as his motivation for coming home and drives his will to live and fight his hardships at sea. At one point, Odysseus considers giving up so he will not need to face the sea raging/ under such winds anymore (Homer 5.314 315).
