Symbolism Of The Story Of An Hour By Kate Chopin
Symbolism in The Story of an Hour In her piece The Story of an Hour, Kate
Chopin uses several symbols to bring Louise Mallard s dramatic hour to life, as well
as the themes of freedom and disillusionment that come with marriage and life.
Chopin used Mrs. Mallard s heart trouble, the open window and spring life, and her
final descent down the stairs that led to her deathto show that Louise s marriage to
Brently was suffocating her free spirit and decreasing her quality of life. These
main symbols make the reader feel not only that they are in the room with Mrs.
Mallard, but are inside her head and can understand all of her thoughts. The frequent
use of symbolism enhances the themes of the story and brings out the emotion and
deeper meanings that took place in one life changing hour. The first thing that the
reader learns is that Mrs. Mallard suffered from heart trouble, which is why her
sister Josephine had to break the news of Brently s death very gently to her. At first
glance, one may think that she is a very frail woman with heart disease; therefore, she
cannot take any shocks and must live a very calm life. Furthermore, at the end of
the story, when Brently walks through the front door and Mrs. Mallard collapses,
the doctor said that she had died of heart disease of joy kills (Chopin206).
However, when Mrs. Mallard is in the bedroom surrounded by the comfort of the
armchair, her pulse beat fast, and the coursing blood warmed and relaxed every inch
of her body
Ship Breaker Dystopian
Dystopian literature is a genre of fictional writing that portrays the world in a
worst case scenario using three elements. These three elements are dystopian
society, dystopian controls and the dystopian protagonist. Paolo Bacigalupi uses
these three elements to create a very realistic dystopian novel that is not too far
away from becoming a reality. With all of this said, It is obvious that Ship Breaker
is a completely dystopian novel. Not only is it a dystopian novel, but it also gives
a view into what the real world might look like in the near future. The bureaucratic
control in Ship Breaker is very evident when Bacigalupi begins to talk about the
swanks. The swanks own people that are half man and half dog to use at their will

In the world of Ship Breaker the people that aren t very well off and do exactly
what they are told without question because they know that there is always
somebody else that wants the same job that they have and if they question why
they are doing the task at hand, they will lose their job. This is shown when Nailer
is talking to Bapi on the deck of the ship after emerging from the vents and Bapi
says, You think I can t get a hundred other licebiters to take your place? There s kids
down there that would let me cut out an eye if it would get them up on a wreck.

Transgender People In Jewish Culture
This reading discusses transgender people in the Jewish community. The person
undergoing transition and witnesses (closest family) participate in a ritual. This
ritual takes place when a person wants to change their gender. A room with a
covered mirror is set up for the ritual. The person in transition, wearing a white robe
known as a kittel, is washed as if preparing for a mikveh (ritual bath). The person in
transition and the witnesses recite verses. Then the person in transition tears his/her
clothes, followed by the witnesses. The reciting continues and the witnesses pour
three buckets of water over the person as if for a taharah (purification of a dead
body). The ritual ends with the person getting a new name and the familywelcoming

The Tobaron Waxman s ritual/performance art piece based on the opshernish
tradition involves separating his hair into locks and connecting them to the ceiling.
People would come to the child s house to cut his hair and shave his head using
scissors and a razor. This tradition marks the boy s public appearance as a grown
male citizen. Tobaron Waxman, with the collaboration of rabbi Justin Jaron Lewis
and the assistance from many others, attempted to create a self portrait as pshat
(plain sense) about transgender embodiment without using a physical body. He
used 251 verses from the Torah and traced these verses onto walls or windows of the
gallery with the use of projectors. He used this self portrait as a way to let his father
know of his new identity. This way of self portrait allows us to see how it feels like

Kudler Fine Foods and Wine
Abstract This paper focuses on the various ways which Kudler Fine Foods and
Wine can do in case of a critical event to avoid negative publicity by the media. It
highlights different steps that can be employed by any organization to ensure that
its image as well as interests is safeguarded. In addition, this paper focuses on the
role of public relation and public affairs in critical incidences. The organizational
truth and public communication are also discussed in this paper. Lastly right to
know versus personal privacy is also put into consideration in the critical
incidences. Introduction Kudler Fine Foods and Wine is a food shop which was
started in 1998 by Kathy Kudler, the owner. Currently, the owner has expanded his
business to three different locations. The business provides quality and various
varieties of food and wines. It is evident that the company has experienced a
notable growth, and it is expected to develop even more in the near future. Similar
to other organizations, Kudler Fine Foods and Wines can have critical events,
which can jeopardize the reputation of a company on the face of the media. How the
Organization can overcome its Critical Event in the Face of the Media Research
indicates that many organizations all over the world will be confronted because of
critical events, which are likely to compromise the reputation of the organization
(Nudell Antokol, 2001). Due to this fact, planning on how to overcome its critical

Our group narrowed down the myriad of industries by analyzing data within the
consumer discretionary industry. During this analysis, the retail group peaked our
interest because it represents a significant portion of the restatements that have
occurred within the consumer discretionary industry. However, these restatements
have significantly lowered from the years 2000 2015. We decided to delve into the
matter further to try and determine why the retail industry has more restatements and
why they have been decreasing in recent years.
We wanted to narrow the retail industry into a niche categorical distinction: Brick
and Mortar versus Online. To begin working towards creating a threshold for this
distinction, we pulled data relating to fixed assets and total sales for companies within
the retail industry. By utilizing the visualization software, we could see a significant
divide in the sales divided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The three most influential accounts we detected were revenue, inventory, and
depreciation. We found that these accounts have an inverse relationship with
restatement occurrence. We attribute this to numerous factors, but have specifically
reasoned that stores have little incentive to manage their earnings when a steady
increase is occurring, potentially resulting in lower restatements. We reasoned that the
revenue, inventory, and depreciation accounts show similar trends because as a firm s
revenue increases, it must invest in more inventory and fixed assets to continue
operations at an efficient and effective level to meet consumer demand. This
demonstrates the positive correlation between the three accounts. Another factor to
attribute to the decline in restatements could be the implementation of the Sarbanes
Oxley Act in 2002. The restatements within the retail industry peaked in 2002 2004,
but have been rapidly declining

Trying to work and help pay for funeral expenses, because my grandmother let the
insurance lapse, was extremely difficult. I couldn t take summer courses like I had
planned. I was sure to use my grandfather as my motivation for the semester of Fall
2016, but everything hit me at once. Trying to be a big girl and stay busy, I ended
up suffering from ER visits panic attacks. I was given strong medication that kept me
sedated. I was so determined, but I was rushing things to stay focused on school and
ending up not doing so well.
Everyone deserves a second chance. If I could rewind back time I would do
everything completely different. We all know death of a person so close to you
can leave an effect on people. I know I have opportunities to make my grandfather
proud, because knowing that he is at peace allows me to continue to be my
strongest in all that I do. These burdens have revealed so much maturity in myself
along with decisions. I am not perfect, nor does my last few bad semesters indicate
that I am a failure. I feel as if my anxiety is at rest which shows major progress
allowing myself to focus and live my life. I m willing to cut my hours even more

Bp Deep Water Horizontal Explosion
INTRODUCTION BP originated from a British petroleum company founded in
1909. After experiencing crises during the 1980s 1990s, the company started to
have a cost cutting culture. During mid 1990s, with an aggressive growth strategy,
BP started to grow and reposition. After BP merged with Amoco in 1998, John
Browne started to serve as chief executive until May 2007. Browne repositioned BP
as a green oil company after he took over and practiced the model of organizational
decision making strategy, known as asset federation. Under this new strategy, onsite
asset managers had the authority to make decisions, and employees compensation
was directly tied to asset performance (Ingersoll et. al, 4). Many decisions made by

Mark Hafle, one of BP s drilling engineers even claimed the cement job was
working fine at court (Ingersoll et. al, 16). The drilling engineers of the Macondo
project were warned about potential risks, but they willfully ignored the warnings
and insisted everything would work fine. Such bias and rationalized behavior of
drilling engineers just added another warning sign to the explosion of Deepwater
Horizon. Secondly, BP s business relationships are complex, and the legitimate
priorities often conflict (Crews). BP s failure to prevent the explosion was due in
part to complex partnership. BP held the rights to drill using the rig and operation
services leased from Transocean. As a result, of the 126 people aboard the
Deepwater Horizon, 79 were from Transocean, seven were from BP, and the rest
were from other firms (Ingersoll et. al, 1). People serving on Deepwater Horizon
came from different organizations. A decision making process involved many
authorities, which decreased the efficiency and effectiveness of decision making.
Even though BP maintained main operational authority, only six percent of people
aboard the Deepwater Horizon rig were from BP. As an important business partner of
BP, Transocean provided the equipment and performed the majority of the work, and
thereafter it had some authority over operations and maintenance. The complex
business partnership caused serious
My Most Unforgettable Week Of My Life
POW! I dive left to go for the save. The game had just ended and we were now in
the penalty shootout. I had to make so many saves in the game to get us to a PK
shootout. Back in March, my parents signed me up for the soccer camp with a
friend. Last year my parents won a ticket for the soccer camp, at first I did not want
to go but since the camp was full and there were no other tickets I had to go so I
did. After the first two days I really liked the camp, by the end of it I realized that it
would have been more fun with a friend. This year we got a friend that could go to
it this time. There were supposed to be three of us, but one of the friend s parent
forgot to sign their kid into the camp. This was my most unforgettable week of my
life because this was just such a good camp, plus I got one of my highlights of my
goalie career to me. The camp that I went to was at Dail soccer/track complex at
NC State University. It had a baseball field right next to it with a camp going on for
softball. It also took place on the other two fields across the street, yet there is a
tunnel underneath the street that we took. For the games for overtime it did not
work the same as normal we went straight to the penalty shootout, instead of
having two overtime periods. This week happened to me because my parents were
able to sign me up for the camp. My parents learned about the camp from last year.
They had won a ticket into the camp and since it was sold out my parents looked at
the web page for it to see what it was about and thought I would enjoy it, so I went
to it. On the first day of camp we went and filled everything out so I could have fun
and any insurance for the camp, I don t know I went to the camp to have fun I did
not pay any attention to the signing in anything else to start the camp. After that, I
went and found my group I was supposed to be in which turned out to be the
second goalie group. In the second goalie group, we were more like a group of
people that have some problems with ourselves. Most of the people in our group
would talk when our coach talked or wanted them to pay attention. Then there were
the other people, like me, in the group who wanted to get as far as possible in
training and wanted to
God Is Omnipotent And Can Not Make Evil Good
1.If God is omnipotent, then God will be able to make evil good. Do you agree with
this statement? Give reasons for your answer.
My opinion to this statement does not come immediately. For this reason I plan to
briefly investigate the arguments for four main sub premises that either support or
reject the statement If God is omnipotent, then God will be able to make evil good .
These premise s are:
(A) God is not omnipotent and cannot make evil good
(B) God is omnipotent, but cannot make evil good
(i) God is omnipotent and chooses not to make evil good
(C) God is omnipotent and can make evil good.
Arguments that support Premise (i) deny statement A of any truth. If reasoning
behind statement (i) provide sufficient evidence to support premise (i) then I will be
disagree with statement A.
Arguments for Premise (ii and iii) ascribe partial truth to statement A but distinguish
between God s ability to possess the potential to make evil good v.s. God possessing
this ability and wanting to make evil good. This distinction supports premise A in
similar ways for both premise (ii and iii) raise a paradoxical puzzle into what
disposition God takes as one who is supposedly omnipotent, omnibenevolent and
omnipresent.
Reasoning for premise (iv) defends theism and the traditional form God is ascribed to
have.
The reason I have separated Statement Z into four sub premises is because how
these four sub premises are defended and countered works to serve the validity of
Essay Theory of the Absurd
According to critic Mark Esslin, the concept of Theatre of the Absurd relates to the
playwrights loosely grouped under the label of the absurd attempt to convey their
sense of bewilderment, anxiety, and wonder in the face of an inexplicable universe (
The Theatre ). Esslin stressed the fact that plays and stories belonging to the Theatre
of the Absurd were composed of situations dealing with the way a humanreacts to an
event, without any form of importance, thus only stressing over insignificant things
and rejecting the notion of logic. Albert Camus, a major writer of the Theatre of the
Absurd , construes the Absurd by completely varying this concept through the human
personality, exemplified by The Strangerand The Myth of... Show more content on

This act depicts that there is no true point to human life. While Meursault is a strong
believer of this concept, humanity attempts to form reasonable justifications for an
insane wrongdoing. In the story, Meursault states that The truth is I never have much
to say. I just keep quiet (Camus 104). Thus, by Meursault statement, Camus stresses
the absurdity of silence as the prosecution unravels why Meursault committed murder
of the Arab. The Stranger opens up with a simple quote: Maman died today. Or
yesterday maybe, I don t know. I got a telegram from the home: Mother deceased.
Funeral tomorrow. Faithfully yours. That doesn t mean anything. Maybe it was
yesterday (Camus 3). This abrupt and distinctive introduction expresses the attitude
that Meursault possesses that there is simply no meaning to life as a whole a true
stranger to the world. Furthermore, the trial in which Meursault partakes is absurd in
itself because the judge, prosecutors, and jury try to find meaning where there is
none to be found ( Albert ).
Moreover, Meursault implies that fact that he does not have any particular reason to
live, and death is the only way to go. His apathy and indifference about life further
reveal the absurd in this novel. According to McCarthy, Meursault is not truly
saddened by his mother s death because in his mind, death is an unavoidable force
mankind is destined to die. During Meursault s mother s funeral,
Ancient Olympic Gamges to Modern Day Olympic Games
Essay
Spectators from all over the world have gathered together on one stage, leaving no
seat empty in the grand arena. Cheers could be heard from all over the stadium as
athletes from different towns and cities come out. These people, trained and ready,
have come from throughout the land, gathered together in one spot to compete
against one another. This was no simple competition. Not only is it for the people,
but it is also for the gods, to see who will be declared victor amongst those who call
themselves the finest over the rest. The moment the runner wielding the torch enters
the stadium, everyone waits and watches in earnest anticipation. The cauldron is lit
by the Olympic flame and the arena thunders with applause and hurrahs. The games...

Another reason as to why the ancient games are regarded highly is because Persian
king Xerxes, on hearing that Olympia awarded only wreath prizes, marveled that
Greeks competed not for material reward, but only for honor (Kyle 34). The
games were often associated with physical effort, fair competition..., and sacred
truce (Callebat 556). The ancient games were meant to create a sense of peace for
festivities dedicated to their gods. To do something underhanded was not
justifiable. Ancient Greece was not a unified state at the time of its birth up until
the Macedonia king, Philip the II, conquered it. It was originally split up into
many city states, such as Sparta and Athens, which would fight amongst each
other. At one point, the ancient games existed but it eventually went away due to
all the conflict. However, according to Pausanias, a Greek traveler and geographer,
the ancient games were brought back because Greece was grievously worn [down
from the] internal strife and plague ( DESCRIPTION OF GREECE ). This is
further supported by another Greek lyric poet, Pindar, who wrote under the power
of noble joys, malignant pain is subdued and dies, whenever god sent Fate lifts
prosperity on high ( Pindar ). Noble joys could be interpreted as the festivities and
the games while the malignant pain could

Fashions took on a whole different look to how we see people dress in modern
times, and music created a whole new era of entertainment. All in all, life was

George Smith Wealth Of Nations
By this he meant that if they can sell the items the public will buy then the result will
be to make money. If they can satisfy the needs of the consumers then they will
receive bountiful rewards. In Smith s head this system not only makes the baker,
butcher, and brewer wealthy, but also the nation as a whole. When the citizens are
working productively to make themselves better then the nation will prosper too. In
today s society the invisible hand theory seems to lead capitalism and free markets
efficiently through controversy of supply and demandfor deficient resources, other
than for the benefit of an individual.
The Wealth of Nations argues that division of labor and the specializing in work will
yield abundance. Smith states, It is the great multiplication of the productions of all
the different arts, in consequence of the division of labor, which occasions, in a well
governed society, that universal opulence which extends itself to the lowest ranks of
the people . The ideas that Smith presents in The Wealth of Nations has effectively
changed the import and export livelihood. Smith constituted the idea that is currently
known as GDP or Gross Domestic Product and he fought for free commerce.

rarely based on theoretical criteria but rather the policies and interpretations. Another
equally argued disagreement between the two was the economic method and

significant exchange value. Malthus argued that there should be a cost analysis
integrated with the supply and demand scheme. Malthus tried to explain the measure

Inbound logistics Carl Pei, the director of OnePlus global has mentioned that the
invitation system that they have was more about managing their inventory because
ordering too much upfront will give them a negative impact. By doing so, they will
be able to manage the amount of devices that they sell to consumers and therefore
their logistic support team will get the chance to catch up. Additionally, according to
Tam and Messmer (2015), OnePlus has been able to eliminate cost of location rents,
staff and etc which could actually cost them up to 35% of the final price of their
smartphones.
Operation After releasing OnePlus 3, The best value for money smartphone for this

which is OnePlus 3T just after five months after they released it (Chakraborty, 2016)
Outbound logistics According to Bacon (2016), instead of using intermediary retail

Therefore on September, OnePlus has announced their plan about allowing pre order

Employee Attitude
1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY An attitude is a hypothetical construct that
represents an individual s degree of like or dislike for an item. Attitudes are generally
positive or negative views of a person, place, thing, or event this is often referred to as
the attitude object. People can also be conflicted or ambivalent toward an object,
meaning that they simultaneously possess both positive and negative attitudes
toward the item in question.
Attitude: The importance of attitude in understanding psychological phenomenon
was given formal recognition early in the history of social psychology. From the time
of the concept s entry in to the language of psychology until now, interest in attitude

2. Ego Defensive: The ego defensive functions of attitude acknowledge the
importance of psychological thought. Attitude may be acquired by facing threats in
the external world or becoming aware of his own unacceptable impulses.
3. Value Orientation: The value orientation function takes in to account attitudes that
are held because they express a person s self image, or bycues that engage the person
s values and make them salient to him.
4. Knowledge: The knowledge function of attitude is based on a person s need to
maintain a stable, organized and meaningful structure of the world.
5. Attitude that provides a standard against which a person evaluates the aspects of
his world and serve as the knowledge function too. These functions of attitudes affect
the individual s way of interpreting the information coming to him. Since attitudes
intervene between work requirements and work responses, information about how
people feel about their jobs can be quite useful in the predication about work
response. Thus, these types of attitudes can portray areas of investigation for making
the individual and the organization more compatible.
Factors in Attitude Formation: The attitudes are learned. Though there are different
approaches as how learning works and is acquired by an individual, generally it is
held that individuals learn things from the environment in which they interact. Thus,
for attitude formation, all these factors must be

level. ARS Food Security Research: USDA ARS. (2016) states that food securityis
defined as when all people at all times have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food
to maintain a healthy and active life. Food security includes the physical and
economic access to food that meets their dietary needs. It has been established that
food security is built on three factors, which include; food availability, food access,
and food use. Food availability establishes that there are sufficient quantities that are
consistently available. Food access ensures there are sufficient resources available to
obtain the food that are necessary for a nutritious diet. It needs to be understood that
food security is a very complex issue relating to sustainable development that is linked
to health through malnutrition, sustainable economic development, environment, and
trade. Globally, while agricultureremains the largest employment sector of most
developing countries, it is important for a country s food security that there are
international trade agreements.
With the population of the world continuing to grow and the need for an increased
amount of food to sustain this population globally, it is important to take a look at the
present state of food
Globalization Is The Fight Against The Things We Don t...
There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must
never be a time when we fail to protest Elie Wiesel once said about activism.
Activism is the fight against the things we don t like or want in our lives today or it
could be something that we are fighting for that the government doesn t think it is
necessary. Activism brings out protests about political or social change that people
want and are fighting for. Naomi Kleinis a social activist who has wrote books to

Thirteen year old Tom had recently been playing football and kicked his ball over
a fence into his neighbour s garden. Tom s neighbour was a cantankerous 70 year
old called Stan who confiscated the ball when he saw it land on his pristine lawn.
As a result of this incident Tom decided to play a practical joke on Stan by posting
letters through Stan s letterbox each day on his way to school. Inside the letters
were the words: You ll pay for what you have done old man. As a result of receiving
these letters every day for a month Stan became scared to leave his house and was
diagnosed by his doctor as suffering from depression.

It has to be more than trifling. It was confirmed in Chan Fook [1994] that it
includes psychological injury which amounts to a recognised clinical condition and
there must be medical evidence to support it. Mere distress or emotion would not be
sufficient. Stan was more than merely depressed. He was suffering from depression
which is a recognised clinical condition and he would have medical evidence of this
so ABH is satisfied.
The word occasioning simply means caused the case of Roberts (1971) denotes that
the injury must be reasonably foreseeable on the facts. This is an objective test and
is satisfied. It is reasonably foreseeable that someone would suffer ABH in the form
of psychological injury if they were sent threatening letters over a period of time.
The ABH must be caused by an assault. Here the assault would be a technical
assault. A technical assault was defined in Fagan [1968] as an act by which the
defendant intentionally or recklessly causes another person to apprehend the
application to his body of immediate, unlawful force. The AR is to cause the victim
to apprehend the immediate application of unlawful force. It is the apprehension that
has to be immediate not the force. Fear of imminent force has been held to be
sufficient i.e. fear of force in the near future as in Smith (1983), Ireland and
Constanza and this can be satisfied
Medea Dilemma Analysis
Euripides, an influential dramatist in Greek culture is celebrated for his famous
tragedies which examine the shadier side of human nature. Many of Euripides s
plays present the audience with a dilemma. As one reviews the passages and
unfolding story, the message causes the reader to dig deep and evaluate personal
morals because the play is intended to be a tragic moral dilemma. In the play Medea,
Euripidesgives his audience many different situations to consider. One specific
dilemma causes the reader to question Medea s state of mind. Situations arise
whereupon the reader contemplates whether Medea acted out of reckless rage or
with rational, well thought out plans. At the onset of the play, the reader is
introduced to the first character, the nurse. A concerned monologue ensues and the
nurse bewails the dire situation of her mistress, Medea. In this monologue, one
hears, through the tormented ravings of the nurse, how furious and upset Medea
has been acting. The nurse is even fearful for the safety of Medea s children
because of Medea s actions. This point of view aids the reader in examining how
others in Medea s life view her thus giving the audience an initial view of Medea
through another character s lens. Soon after the nurse s grief stricken rantings,
Medea is introduced: Aiai. / I have suffered in my wretchedness, suffered woes which
call for great laments. O accursed children of a hateful mother, may you die with your
father, may the whole house fall in ruin (Euripides 4). From these first few lines, one
could pose the unthinkable question, Who could hurt their own children ? Most
likely, the average man and woman care for and are anxious for the safety of their
children. If Medea is considering harming her children, the reader could question the
clarity of her conscience. The natural man s instinct could trigger at this point and a
question could be established. How could a mother speak these dark words about
her own offspring? One could begin to rationalize the situation and establish a
summary of Medea s emotional outburst. Hopefully, a motherly instinct will
overpower the rantings of flaunted anger and Medea will remember the love for her
children. Medea herself says in this line

In today society different companies go through various contracts on a day to day
basis; however, it is solely up to both companies or parties to ensure that the contract
upon entering is in good standing and there after remains in good binding, As in the
case of Prince Vs Warner Brothers. In the beginning it seems as though the contract
was acceptable for both parties, however as the discrepancies unfold, it became clear
that the contract was no longer valid. This created a huge problem for both parties. It

record label. While he carried out his remaining obligation to Warner Brothers, at
every public appearance, Prince continued to retaliate by writing the word slave on
his cheek (Orwall, 1995). For a period of time prince did not play his own music.
Benny Medina, VP of A R for Warner Brothers at the time, believed that this was
apart of his protest against the record label. Prince was a really unique person who
was not going to be very productive if he was not in a healthy place with the people
he had to deal with. We got it; if you want to go, go! Lets just figure it out , said
Benny Medina in a BET documentary video (BET). In 1997 Prince ended his
contract with Warner Brothers. In that same year he released his last album with the

Warner Brothers has ended he legally changed his name back to Prince (BET).

It has always been a tradition for record labels to own the masters of the artist sign

notion. Prince did not like the fact that the labels were able to decide when his album

The Use Of Gender Pronouns
Gender pronouns are an ever growing issue in our world, developing into a
exceptionally hot
topic in today s society. There are some citizens out there who prefer the use of non
binary pronouns
such as they/their instead of him/her, because they feel as though their gender should
not be assumed.
Even though some people may not agree with banning gender pronouns, it would
protect transgender
and other non binary people from discrimination, expand the possibilities for gender
identity and
expression, and reduce the impact that gender has on our educational system.
Explain why it is compelling to you
Gender pronouns make me curious because most humans do not have to worry about
harassment due to their gender or how they portray themselves. This is bothersome to
me because we
are all human beings and in my opinion, deserve the same rights as everyone else.
There are many
obstacles that trans and non binary people have to face, such as harassment,
discrimination, and they
may not get the same opportunities within the job market or colleges because of their
personal gender
choices. A national Transgender Discrimination Survey showed that 26% of trans
people lost their jobs
due to bias, 50% were harassed on the job, 20% were evicted or denied housing, and
78% of trans
students were harassed or assaulted (Transequality.org. 2017.) Encouraging the use of
preferred
pronouns is an important part of this education, giving young people a broader
understanding of people
differences and allowing all students to realize their full potential. It also helps ensure
that trans people,
whether at university, in work or otherwise, are respected and accepted with
exception (Pells, Rachael.
Jan, 2017.)
Describe what you already know about it
There are many contributing factors at play with gender pronouns and why they
should be
banned. The number one goal would be to end discrimination and harassment agains
trans and non
binary people. There are regulations already being put into use to help the trans
community, such as in
New York, where employers and landlords who intentionally and consistently ignore
using pronouns
such as he/her to refer to a transgender worker or tenant who requests otherwise may

Narrative Techniques In Pulp Fiction
Pulp Fiction is a black comedy, and crime movie that was written and directed by
Quentin Tarantino. The movie features graphic violence, drugs, and a mysterious
briefcase. Pulp Fiction tells several stories in a nonlinear way, meaning that the
narratives are not told in a chronological order and do not follow the rules of space
and time. The usage of a nonlinear format in Pulp Fiction was quite compelling as it
did not follow the typical cause effect sequence in any scene, instead Tarantino chose
to open the movie with a non typical effect rather than a cause.
The movie tells the story of two hit men, a mob boss and his wife, and an aging
boxer. The stories of these people are put together to create a bizarre yet funny movie.
John Travolta ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dialogue puts comedy in the mouths of killers and other moral degenerates. The
dialogue was also somewhat misleading because it never really revealed the
narrative of the movie. For example when the two hitmen drive to their first
assignment, they casually talk about McDonalds, they never really mentioned who
they are killing and why they are killing them. We see that in so many scenes which
makes the movie even more fascinating because it draws your attention to figure out
the reasons of why things go that way but we never really get answers.
Tarantino did many things in the movie that haven t been done before,
What inspired Tarantino to create Pulp Fiction was old movies not real life. The
name Pulp Fiction is perfect for the movie because it is derived from pulp
magazines which are inexpensive fiction magazines are best known for their lurid,
exploitative, and sensational subject matter. Tarantino describes pulp mags as cheap,
disposable entertainment that you can roll up take it with you anywhere, but can t
wait until you take it out and read it again which is exactly how the movie is like.
No matter how many times you watch it, you will still be fascinated by its series of
events.
The film has a clever dialogue which resonated with young movie lover that found it
to be exciting and

Who Is Lucy Hominid
Lucy is the nickname given to the world s most famous human ancestor. (National
Geographic News) Lucy was found on November 24, 1974 in Hardar, Ethiopia by
paleontologists Tom Gray and Donald Johanson. While Lucy may not be the earliest
human ancestor she is the first Australopithecus afarensis skeleton found, with her
remains being 3.2 million years old.
Lucy s nickname was inspired by the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
While it is unsure who exactly gave this 3.2 million year old skeleton the nickname
Lucy, it stuck and the skeleton has been referred to as Lucy ever since. Lucy has
been identified as a hominid because she walked upright, which is one of the
foremost characteristics of the zoological family Hominidae. Hominidae
Essay on Beethoven
Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany, in 1770. He came from a
family of musicians. His father and grandfather worked for the Electors of
Cologne. The grandfather, Lodewyk van Beethoven came from Mechelen, Belgium
and joined the court orchestra in Bonn as a bass player. He eventually became the
conductor. His son Johann was a professional tenor at the court in Bonn and also
played piano and violin. As Beethoven began to exhibited his outstanding musical
talent at a young age, his father pushed for him to become a child prodigy. Johann
gradually gave up when Beethoven s recitals were only marginally successful.

For years Beethoven had contemplated setting Schiller s Ode to Joy, but when he

very uncertain as to how to introduce the voice. ... there are reports of him striding
up and down his room trying to solve this problem ( Pike 70). Although some of the
ideas used in the Ninth Symphony appear in sketches of 1817 18, Beethoven only
began concentrated work on the score in 1822. It occupied him throughout 1823,
and he completed it in February 1824. The first performance took place at the

SWOT Analysis Of Activision Blizzard
Advancements in information and technology have been the driving force behind
some of the successful companies in the world. Businesses are leveraging this
development to build competitive strategies by which they can make and sell their
products and services. One of the companies that are leveraging technology to sell
their services is ActivisionBlizzard, which makes and sells video game. Activision
Blizzardhas managed to establish five different business units, all of which are in the
entertainment industry. The success of the company has seen it establish itself as one
of the largest company in the United States and Europe in terms of its market
capitalization and revenue. In an industry that has seen many other companies
emerging, Activision Blizzard has the responsibility of making and adjusting its
operational strategies to remain ahead of the competition. One of the approaches that
it can use in the achievement of this important goal is using a SWOT analysis tool.
By doing the SWOT, Activision Blizzard can identify weaknesses and threats in its
operations and device strategies for working on them to remain relevant and
competitive in the market.

Vasovagal Syncope, also known as fainting, neurocardiogenic syncope, and neurally
mediated syncope, is a very common condition, occurring in roughly half of all
people at least once within their life; three percent of the population develops it
repeatedly. It is not a serious condition.(2) A vasovagal response involves a decrease
in the volume of blood that is returned to the heart, which enervates the
baroreceptors(2) in the sympathetic nervous system to increase the force of each
contraction of the heart. Consequently, the opposing parasympathetic nervous system
is alerted to slow the heart rate and dilate the surrounding veins and arteries. These
responses of the nervous system cause the blood pressure to drop very low, causing
syncope (loss of consciousness).(1) Most patients are young and healthy, although
vasovagal syncope can occur in the elderly population that has preexisting cardiac
problems. Extremely hot weather and blood alcohol levels are typical triggers. Some
patients suffer from several, often attacks, while others may only experience them
sporadically.(3)
While standing, the blood tends to settle in the legs.

Ho Chi Minh Ho Chi Minh was a Communist, who had announced Vietnam

the war with the French, Ho Chi Minh took refuge in northern Vietnam and settled
there with his followers. He founded the Indochina Communist Party and the Viet

allies, the Soviet Union and China. Both aided North Vietnam before and during the
war. (Dong Si Nguyen, Duong xuyen Truong son: hoi uc. Hanoi: Nha Xuat Ban Quan

Republic of Vietnam. This had been a tremendously significant event in world history
perhaps the most important event since the 1917 October Revolution in Russia. It
marked the first occasion in human history in which a radical national movement
under Communist leadership had succeeded in overthrowing the influence of a
colonial state and establishing and maintaining its own new, independent form of
social and political system. However, Ho s type of communism was markedly
different than that of Marxist ideology that had been the metaphorical icon of the
October Revolution. alike to Jose Antonio s fascist movement, the hierarchical

Mother Jones s Impact On Child Labor Laws
Have you ever wondered how some people enact change? Mother Jones protested
for child labor laws. Melba integrated a white high school in order to get rid of
racism. Nelson Mandela joined South Africa s congress to help racism. They all
persevered to enact change, but they took different approaches for their problems.
Mother Jones made an impact on child labor because she persevered to protect
children. They way down to the White House just to protect kids. According to
Josephson in Mother Jones: Fierce Fighter for Workers Rights, She and the textile
union leaders would stage their own tour. They would march the mill children all
the way to the president of the United States Theodore Roosevelt. This shows how
she got her idea to try to persuade not only the President but make this issue
publicly known. Josephson states, Mother Jones had seen how dangerous their
jobs were. Barefooted little girls and boys reached their tiny hands into the
treacherous machinery to repair snapped threads or crawled underneath the
machinery to oil it. Josephson has a heart for kids, and she just can t stand to see
them being tortured like this. Josephson says, The next night, the marchers slept

America s Freedom Of Freedom
Introduction
Since 2011, the Freedom House has classified Mexico as a purple, or a not free
country in its annual Freedom of the Press report. The upraise of violence in the
country, stemmed from its war against drugs, has threatened Mexico s freedom of
expression and practice of journalism, undermining the foundations of the country s
democracy. During the last 12 years, 82 journalists have been murdered, 18 have
disappeared and there have been 33 attacks on media outlets according to the National
Human Rights Comission.
The legal system in Mexico is so weak and fragmented that those responsible for the
attacks on journalists rarely face consequences. The lack of rule of law aggravates
the fear of the brave journalists that risk their lives daily to report the harsh truths of
what really happens in the country. These journalists deserve and should be protected
by their government, but Mexican journalists don t only have the drug cartel s as their
enemies, but corrupt government officials as well.
Members of international institutions like the United Nations and the Inter American
Commission on Human Rights have urged Mexican authorities to do more to ensure
that freedom of expression in the country is protected. It is important to understand
the government s involvement in the war on drugs and the role of the country s legal
system to understand how Mexico s war on drugs has jeopardized the lives of
hundreds of journalists.

Analysis Of The Film The Social Network
Essay 4: The Social Network Critique
The film that we watched in class is called The Social Network. Directed by David
Fincher and released in 2010, it is an informative film which attempts to shed light
on the real story behind the creation and rise of Facebook, starting from the
beginning and revealing all the possibly hidden or not as well known facts behind it.
Though some of the movie may be Hollywoodized and exaggerated for a dramatic
depiction, with exceptional acting and a compelling story, it does a fantastic job of
informing viewers all about Facebook while still engrossing them in the story and
captivating their interest.
The movie opens up on a scene when Mark Zuckerberg, played by Jesse Eisenberg, is
dumped by his girlfriend Erica Albright after an argument. From this moment, a
long chain of events is set into motion that ultimately lead to the success of one of
the most prominent and influential social media sites in internet and
communication history. After Mark is dumped, he is humiliated and set on
obtaining revenge. From his anger, he, along with his only real friend Eduardo
Saverin, who is played by Andrew Garfield, work to create a website that will
serve as payback for his girlfriend breaking up with him. Created on October 28,
2003, the site that they create is called Facemash, which is the very first version of
Facebook. Originally made to be a site for comparing photos, the site used pictures
stolen from the school database that were plugged into
Arts Principles
Chapter 2: Principles for Effective, High Quality Out of School Time Arts Programs
Chapter 2 is centered on ways to implement effective improvements to OST art
programs using stated and latent needs gathered from the participating teens and
tweens. Researchers compiled ten principles that ought to be followed/implemented
in order to engage more low income urban youth.
The ten principles are:
Principle 1: Instructors are professional, practicing artists, and are valued with
compensation for their expertise and investment in their professional development
Principle 2: Executive directors have a public commitment to high quality arts
programs that is supported by sustained action
Principle 3: Arts programs take place in dedicated, ... Show more content on

Closing Remarks
In the closing of the article, researchers were able to conclude that the reason we are
seeing an underutilization of OST arts programs amongst low income urban youth is
because of poor past experiences that have soiled their desire to participate.
Ultimately, what the youth that participated in the team s focus groups said they
wanted aligned with the KOL and case study informed principles.
Basically, the lesser engaged youth desired the principles utilized in higher quality
arts programs by the highly engaged youth. Researchers go on to suggest that this is
the aspect that could lead the lesser engaged youth to the next level. To fix the
damage that has been done, the team suggests that improving the quality of art
programs overall will start to affect an increasing number of youth. According to this
line of thinking, word of mouth will eventually spread, which would greatly increase.
How It Applies
Although the work that we do may not clearly align with the topic addressed by this
article, there are elements that parallel a couple issues with resident turn out and an
overall lack of full utilization when it comes to the resources offered by the CHA.
The following are a few of my suggestions and thoughts, but keep in mind that I am

The Future Of Renewable Energy
Renewable energy constitutes the energy coming from sources that do not get
depleted with time. These sources are not typically exhausted and are environmental
friendly. Although this paper will focuses more on hydropower, the types of
renewable energy sources available in Canada include solar power, wind power,
geothermal energy, ocean energy, and bio energy. Renewable energy
in Canada has as
well had its environmental impacts. The outcomes pose various impacts to the
environment either positively or negatively and end up affecting people s lives.
Canada has had greater embrace on renewable energy, particularly hydropower and
nuclear. In 2011, it was the sixth largest wind power producer worldwide. In Ontario,
there are numerous photovoltaic plants of power. A tidal plant is located in
Annapolis found in Nova Scotia, and it utilizes the tides generated by the Fundy Bay.
Canada has over twenty hydro power stations majority of these located in
Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec and Labrador (Islam, Fartaj Ting,
2013).
A brief look at the sources of Renewable energy in Canada
It is quite notable that Canada has the large reserves of renewable energy. In the
year 2012, it produced three times more renewable energy than the whole of
Germany (McKirdy Solar Energy Society of Canada, 2011). Sources of renewable
energy include:
Tidal energy: Canada has North America s only tidal plant. This is located in

My Dorm
A common place amongst this university to some would be the housing
dormitories. As some may consider me as a loner, I consider myself someone who
is keen of privacy. My dorm is a place where I can gather my thoughts, my emotions
and grasp reality. Being new to Massachusetts, I could describe any place I gaze
upon; all being a new sight. It is too bland of an experience to describe a park, a
beach, or a garden, because everyone has painted their own unique pictures of these
familiar experiences. So I chose the campus dormitories, well my dorm. The sights,
sounds, feelings and smells that occur are just as remarkable as sitting in a park

War Of 1812 Affected Susanna
How has the war of 1812 affected Susanna? This war has completely changed
everything about her life and how she lived. Susanna lived all the earlier years of
her life with war. She was always having to worry about how her dad and brother
were doing, or if she would wake up being British, American or Canadian. She
always had to be so focused on this war and everything that was going on in it.
Everything she did was effected by the war. This war has affected Susanna
completely. Susanna has a loving, caring brother and an amazing dad. She loves
spending time with them. But when they have to go to war, she couldn t ever bear
parting with them for such a long while. Susanna and the rest of the women in the
household are always worrying about how the men are doing. If they are even still
alive. Susanna always worries about the updates and pray they will be updates that
will be from Papa and Hamilton not from a messenger saying that they no longer
exist. The men left and nothing much remaining is as it seemed. And even the men
weren t too excited to go to war and leave everything behind. I do not want to go to
war, but if we have to do one, I am glad to do my duty. ~ Hamilton Merritt... Show

Compare And Contrast The Movie And Maria Full Of Grace
The film, Maria full of grace and the book, Open Veins of Latin America share a
plethora of similarities and differences, however, what these two substances do is
substantially support each other. Although the film is a work of fiction, the movie
does an excellent job in supplementing the information that is offered in the book
which will be explained further in the essay. A major difference between the book
and the film is that the film seems to be more personal while the book is more
impersonal.
To begin, the film Maria full of grace, presents a young woman, Maria who lives in a
household where it is seen that her family is struggling financially and that her
family essentially relies on her and her mother for financial income. It could be
inferred from the film that the family is struggling because once Maria quit her job
in the factory, her mother and sister whom who has a child are appalled at this act.
As mentioned, prior you get a more personal feel to this film in contrast from the
book. This is shown through her interactions with her family, coworkers/ friends,
and boyfriend. This film touch base on how being struggling financially would lead
you to perform jobs that aren t exactly legal. Once Maria quit her job at the flower
factory and her family begged her to go back, she wouldn t which fundamentally led
her to become a mule in transporting pellets into the United States for money. Maria s
life is an example of those who live under this umbrella of poverty.

Review Of Sonata V Of John Cage s Sonatas And...
In this essay we will analyze two modern musical pieces. These pieces are namely
Sonata V from John Cage s Sonatas and Interludes, and Caballito Negro by George
Crumb. Composed in mid twentieth century, both pieces made a great success and
they are worth examining in terms of the historical and subjective values affecting
their achievements.
Sonata V of John Cage has binary form which consists of small ranged irregular
phrases. The piece as a whole does not have a distinct melody. The first section has a
smooth, repetitive rhythm, and percussive sound of prepared piano is ethereal. There
is a regular pulse throughout the first section, and the pulse is delayed in some
places with a couple of extra notes ( Sonata V, 0:12 0:16). The second part is more
like the developmental part of the Classical sonata form. It is more dissonant and
irregular, and there are pauses between some phrases. The piece as a whole differs
from Western musicin almost every aspect. Some parts of the piece resemble
African drumming ( Sonata V, 0:47 0:52). However, Cage was actually inspired from
Javanese Gamelan, an orchestra of metallic percussion from Indonesia (Forney et. al.,
374).
As Alex Ross describes, Cage love[s] noise (366). This should be why he decided
to alter his piano in a conceptually violent and unusual way for Sonatas and
Interludes. Though, Cage s aim was not pure violence, as we are pleased by the soft
sounds instead of being battered by some unholy racket (Ross, 366). I

it will use many money to make the Avro Arrow.

there would be no need to use table cloths, catering plates or silverware. Instead,

Cost Of Space Exploration
I get goosebumps when I see a picture of the earth from space . (Russel) Since the
beginning of time, humans have had a natural fascination with the night skies and the
mysteries it contains. However, as modem technology continues to advance, more of
these mysteries are being solved. Around 60 years ago, the first man was sent to the
moonaboard the Apollo 11; but that was only the beginning of a long history of
interplanet explorations. As the years progressed, the fundamental values of space
explorationhave been affected by three main issues; Money, politics and impact. By
finding an equilibrium between these values, we could be the first country to put a
man on Mars/ But of the balance is upset, there are sure to be serious global
consequences.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It will be very difficult challenge to solve all of the financial problems related to
space exploration, from overtaxing of citizens to creating internationally funded
space exploration organizations such as the European Space Agency. It s an
indisputable fact that space exploration is expensive; according to Margaret
McLean, a writer for the Makkula Center for Applied Ethics. 17 billion dollars of
federal money was supplied to NASA in 2006, and about 5.3 billion of that goes
towards space exploration. However, these figures to not take the amount of
money spent on other government funded programs into account. According to the
Office of Management and Budget only 6 cents of every federal dollar is spent on
other federal services, including space as technology as well as financial giants
such as the judiciary system, agriculture, and energy a s w gile. So, it is obvious
that those 6 cents are spread very thin. Meanwhile, 21 cents of that same dollar are
spent on social security. Certainly more taxpayer money could be spent on space
exploration , specialty technology. Although there are many different aspects to the
issues of money involved in space exploration, it seems like most of them have

Seminole Indians
The southeastern fringe of the United States was persistently turbulent amid the mid
nineteenth century. There was tension brewing along the border of Florida and
Georgia, which was brought on by the gathering of various opponents. Rebellious
men from other states such as Georgia entered Florida with expectations of outright
taking the Seminole stallions and cows, not caring and having little to no regret if an
Indian was killed while trying to defend his property. The Seminole warriors, looking
for requital, led attacks of retaliation against honest pilgrims in Georgia. Privateers
and British go getters meandered the range, actuating the Indians against the
Americans, whose eager for land expansionists pined for the domain south of the
Georgia outskirt. Authorities of the disintegrating Spanish Empire, whose banner
flew over the state, were feeble to control occasions or stop the viciousness.... Show

Gen. Edmund P. Gaines sent troops to Fowltown, a Seminole town, to capture chief

Second Seminole War was fought after the refusal of most Seminoles to surrender
the reservation that had been settled for them north of Lake Okeechobee and to

Types Of Exchange Rate During The Asian Financial Crisis
Introduction
An exchange rate tells you how much of one currency you can exchange for another.
Generally, there are two types of exchange rate which is widely used by many
countries: fixed and floating exchange rate. Nowadays, it is necessary to know what
are their advantages as domestic currencies are essential to the method that economies
run. But they are both not perfect. In 1973, with the collapse of the Bretton Woods
system, countries that used fixed exchange rate were seriously affected and floating
exchange rate rose afterward. However, there still had some debates on both fixed
rate and floating exchange rate. Especially after the Asian financial crisis in 1997, the
debates became more intense. A fixed exchange rate once again favored by some
countries. As we can see from the history, they have benefits and drawbacks. Each of
them has their own characteristics. It is not possible to determine which exchange
rate is better because the choice of the appropriate one may vary from different
countries. In other words, the exchange rate regime changes along with the
development of the international economic environment. That is why there are some
different exchange rate regimes which lies between them in reality. Developing
countries that have unstable economies and politics mostly use the fixed exchange
rate to guarantee their residents a normal standard of living. On the other hand,
developed countries such as the U.S, Great Britain are using floating exchange

The Pros And Cons Of Portland Pozzolana Cement
4.What is PPC Cement?
What is Pozzolana?
Pozzolana is a compounds possessing cement properties formed by silica materials
with very little cement properties, reacted with calcium hydroxide at ambient
temperature. Pozzolana materials are natural fly ash, volcanic ash; produced by
combustion of calcined clay and coal. Any of these materials can be used in
preparing Portland Pozzolana Cement.
How is Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) manufactured?
PPC is produced in two ways:
1.Grinding pozzolana materials and portland cement clinker together with addition of
gypsum or calicum sulphate.
2.Blending fine Pozzolana materials and Portland cement.

In short but very long buildings, there are many damaging effects during earthquake

Horizontal Layout of Buildings
In short, the simple geometry buildings have performed better during the
earthquakes. Buildings with re entrant corners, such as those U, V, H and + shaped in
plan, have been able to sustain significant damage. Many times, the bad effects of
earthquakes can be avoided by making the buildings in two parts. Like, an L shaped
plan can be divided into two rectangular plan shapes using a partition point at the
junction. At times, the plan of buildings is simple, but the columns/walls are not
equally distributed. Such buildings tend to twist during earthquake or shaking.
Vertical Layout of Buildings
The earthquake forces developed at a building differs for different floor levels. This
force is supposed to be brought down along the shortest height to the ground or it

she was also a ranky grouchy baby with a bad attitude most of the time she was

mad? Things that lead me wonder about why she was always mad was when Raina
would try to play with her but Amara would prefer playing by herself. That made
me think Amara was always mad because she didn t want anyone playing with her.
The third question that I would ask Raina is: After the road trip to Colorado did
you and your sister get along? I would ask her that because when the car stopped
and they were so bored and didn t have anything to do they started playing and were
sisters after all. But something that lead me wonder this was what if Amara
stopped Raina from getting rid of her snake because she didn t want her to get rid
of it because it meant a lot to her but Amara was just lying and said that to stop her. I
wonder why she would stop her when at first they didn t get along
Jewish Temple Essay
It is important to examine The Temple and Jerusalem s past, to understand their
significance to First Century Jewish People.
To evaluate the significance of the Temple, it is vital to acknowledge what the temple
meant before and after the diaspora, and the similarities and differences between the
first and second temples.
When the First Temple was being built, King Solomon felt convicted to use only the
finest materials, expensive cedar wood, stone and gold were all used (1Cron 29:1 5,
1 Kings 5:6, 5:17, 9:10). The Temple was to be Gods dwelling place, therefore it
needed to be worthy of Gods glory. The Temples main purpose was for Jews to offer
sacrifices to atone for their sins, (Lev 1:4 9).

Jerusalem was the Jews Promised Land (Ezekiel 47:13 23). Verses that surround
Jerusalem, in terms of prophecy are important to note as prophecy gave an
indication to the Jews over what their spiritual and national goals and identity should
be. Zechariah 12, Isaiah 2:3 and Micah 4 are just a few passages in the Bible where
prophecy has been spoken over Israel, and Jerusalem.
During exile, Jews, for a century lived thinking that God had deserted them (Psalm
137). Due to their exile, returning Jews to Jerusalem could feel and experience a
greater sense of national identity as it meant returning to God s chosen land. Jews
felt a closer sense of connection to their faith whist being in Jerusalem. Being in
God s chosen land made the Jews feel like Gods chosen people.
Jerusalem is significant because of the spiritual places it holds. To have lost the
temple to the Babylonians in 586BC and to see it execrated by Zeus worship in
167BC (1Macc 1:41 61) were occurrences made worse because it happened to Gods
only dwelling. The city is significant, as unlike other Ancient Eastern people, it held
the only Temple to worship, sacrifice to, and house God. The city itself became
important to the Jews as, this was the only city that they could travel to for important
Jewish festivals and for

  • 2. Symbolism Of The Story Of An Hour By Kate Chopin Symbolism in The Story of an Hour In her piece The Story of an Hour, Kate Chopin uses several symbols to bring Louise Mallard s dramatic hour to life, as well as the themes of freedom and disillusionment that come with marriage and life. Chopin used Mrs. Mallard s heart trouble, the open window and spring life, and her final descent down the stairs that led to her deathto show that Louise s marriage to Brently was suffocating her free spirit and decreasing her quality of life. These main symbols make the reader feel not only that they are in the room with Mrs. Mallard, but are inside her head and can understand all of her thoughts. The frequent use of symbolism enhances the themes of the story and brings out the emotion and deeper meanings that took place in one life changing hour. The first thing that the reader learns is that Mrs. Mallard suffered from heart trouble, which is why her sister Josephine had to break the news of Brently s death very gently to her. At first glance, one may think that she is a very frail woman with heart disease; therefore, she cannot take any shocks and must live a very calm life. Furthermore, at the end of the story, when Brently walks through the front door and Mrs. Mallard collapses, the doctor said that she had died of heart disease of joy kills (Chopin206). However, when Mrs. Mallard is in the bedroom surrounded by the comfort of the armchair, her pulse beat fast, and the coursing blood warmed and relaxed every inch of her body
  • 3. Ship Breaker Dystopian Dystopian literature is a genre of fictional writing that portrays the world in a worst case scenario using three elements. These three elements are dystopian society, dystopian controls and the dystopian protagonist. Paolo Bacigalupi uses these three elements to create a very realistic dystopian novel that is not too far away from becoming a reality. With all of this said, It is obvious that Ship Breaker is a completely dystopian novel. Not only is it a dystopian novel, but it also gives a view into what the real world might look like in the near future. The bureaucratic control in Ship Breaker is very evident when Bacigalupi begins to talk about the swanks. The swanks own people that are half man and half dog to use at their will for whatever... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the world of Ship Breaker the people that aren t very well off and do exactly what they are told without question because they know that there is always somebody else that wants the same job that they have and if they question why they are doing the task at hand, they will lose their job. This is shown when Nailer is talking to Bapi on the deck of the ship after emerging from the vents and Bapi says, You think I can t get a hundred other licebiters to take your place? There s kids down there that would let me cut out an eye if it would get them up on a wreck. (14) Also the citizens live in a very dehumanized state where the people that don t have much money aren t seen as humans and day to day life is a struggle. There isn t much food for these people and they live on beaches where pollution and trash, wash up on shore every day. The people live in huts and go to work every day knowing that they could die from anything that is in the ship. They work in tight quarters in frail service ducts that could break at any moment if they are too heavy, and they work in these conditions for less than $5 every
  • 4. Transgender People In Jewish Culture This reading discusses transgender people in the Jewish community. The person undergoing transition and witnesses (closest family) participate in a ritual. This ritual takes place when a person wants to change their gender. A room with a covered mirror is set up for the ritual. The person in transition, wearing a white robe known as a kittel, is washed as if preparing for a mikveh (ritual bath). The person in transition and the witnesses recite verses. Then the person in transition tears his/her clothes, followed by the witnesses. The reciting continues and the witnesses pour three buckets of water over the person as if for a taharah (purification of a dead body). The ritual ends with the person getting a new name and the familywelcoming the new form of their child.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Tobaron Waxman s ritual/performance art piece based on the opshernish tradition involves separating his hair into locks and connecting them to the ceiling. People would come to the child s house to cut his hair and shave his head using scissors and a razor. This tradition marks the boy s public appearance as a grown male citizen. Tobaron Waxman, with the collaboration of rabbi Justin Jaron Lewis and the assistance from many others, attempted to create a self portrait as pshat (plain sense) about transgender embodiment without using a physical body. He used 251 verses from the Torah and traced these verses onto walls or windows of the gallery with the use of projectors. He used this self portrait as a way to let his father know of his new identity. This way of self portrait allows us to see how it feels like to live as a transgender

  • 6. Brick And Mortar Our group narrowed down the myriad of industries by analyzing data within the consumer discretionary industry. During this analysis, the retail group peaked our interest because it represents a significant portion of the restatements that have occurred within the consumer discretionary industry. However, these restatements have significantly lowered from the years 2000 2015. We decided to delve into the matter further to try and determine why the retail industry has more restatements and why they have been decreasing in recent years. We wanted to narrow the retail industry into a niche categorical distinction: Brick and Mortar versus Online. To begin working towards creating a threshold for this distinction, we pulled data relating to fixed assets and total sales for companies within the retail industry. By utilizing the visualization software, we could see a significant divide in the sales divided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The three most influential accounts we detected were revenue, inventory, and depreciation. We found that these accounts have an inverse relationship with restatement occurrence. We attribute this to numerous factors, but have specifically reasoned that stores have little incentive to manage their earnings when a steady increase is occurring, potentially resulting in lower restatements. We reasoned that the revenue, inventory, and depreciation accounts show similar trends because as a firm s revenue increases, it must invest in more inventory and fixed assets to continue operations at an efficient and effective level to meet consumer demand. This demonstrates the positive correlation between the three accounts. Another factor to attribute to the decline in restatements could be the implementation of the Sarbanes Oxley Act in 2002. The restatements within the retail industry peaked in 2002 2004, but have been rapidly declining

I didn t represent myself, my family, and most of all Georgia State University the way I know I could have. I ve spent only thirty minutes to an hour on school work because of the tragic events in my life. I ve realized that thirty minutes a day wasn t enough time. I was putting more time into work, trying to stay busy, when school should be my number one job, where I am guaranteed a degree to fulfill an actual career. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Trying to work and help pay for funeral expenses, because my grandmother let the insurance lapse, was extremely difficult. I couldn t take summer courses like I had planned. I was sure to use my grandfather as my motivation for the semester of Fall 2016, but everything hit me at once. Trying to be a big girl and stay busy, I ended up suffering from ER visits panic attacks. I was given strong medication that kept me sedated. I was so determined, but I was rushing things to stay focused on school and ending up not doing so well. Everyone deserves a second chance. If I could rewind back time I would do everything completely different. We all know death of a person so close to you can leave an effect on people. I know I have opportunities to make my grandfather proud, because knowing that he is at peace allows me to continue to be my strongest in all that I do. These burdens have revealed so much maturity in myself along with decisions. I am not perfect, nor does my last few bad semesters indicate that I am a failure. I feel as if my anxiety is at rest which shows major progress allowing myself to focus and live my life. I m willing to cut my hours even more or quit my job to make sure I am guaranteed focus and study time. Work and school are battles upon each other, but you must choose what will benefit the most. There are times I feel as if I still must remain the strongest for my family, but I am learning how to cope with things on a different level
  • 8. Bp Deep Water Horizontal Explosion INTRODUCTION BP originated from a British petroleum company founded in 1909. After experiencing crises during the 1980s 1990s, the company started to have a cost cutting culture. During mid 1990s, with an aggressive growth strategy, BP started to grow and reposition. After BP merged with Amoco in 1998, John Browne started to serve as chief executive until May 2007. Browne repositioned BP as a green oil company after he took over and practiced the model of organizational decision making strategy, known as asset federation. Under this new strategy, onsite asset managers had the authority to make decisions, and employees compensation was directly tied to asset performance (Ingersoll et. al, 4). Many decisions made by John Browne were... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mark Hafle, one of BP s drilling engineers even claimed the cement job was working fine at court (Ingersoll et. al, 16). The drilling engineers of the Macondo project were warned about potential risks, but they willfully ignored the warnings and insisted everything would work fine. Such bias and rationalized behavior of drilling engineers just added another warning sign to the explosion of Deepwater Horizon. Secondly, BP s business relationships are complex, and the legitimate priorities often conflict (Crews). BP s failure to prevent the explosion was due in part to complex partnership. BP held the rights to drill using the rig and operation services leased from Transocean. As a result, of the 126 people aboard the Deepwater Horizon, 79 were from Transocean, seven were from BP, and the rest were from other firms (Ingersoll et. al, 1). People serving on Deepwater Horizon came from different organizations. A decision making process involved many authorities, which decreased the efficiency and effectiveness of decision making. Even though BP maintained main operational authority, only six percent of people aboard the Deepwater Horizon rig were from BP. As an important business partner of BP, Transocean provided the equipment and performed the majority of the work, and thereafter it had some authority over operations and maintenance. The complex business partnership caused serious

I had to make so many saves in the game to get us to a PK shootout. Back in March, my parents signed me up for the soccer camp with a friend. Last year my parents won a ticket for the soccer camp, at first I did not want to go but since the camp was full and there were no other tickets I had to go so I did. After the first two days I really liked the camp, by the end of it I realized that it would have been more fun with a friend. This year we got a friend that could go to it this time. There were supposed to be three of us, but one of the friend s parent forgot to sign their kid into the camp. This was my most unforgettable week of my life because this was just such a good camp, plus I got one of my highlights of my goalie career to me. The camp that I went to was at Dail soccer/track complex at NC State University. It had a baseball field right next to it with a camp going on for softball. It also took place on the other two fields across the street, yet there is a tunnel underneath the street that we took. For the games for overtime it did not work the same as normal we went straight to the penalty shootout, instead of having two overtime periods. This week happened to me because my parents were able to sign me up for the camp. My parents learned about the camp from last year. They had won a ticket into the camp and since it was sold out my parents looked at the web page for it to see what it was about and thought I would enjoy it, so I went to it. On the first day of camp we went and filled everything out so I could have fun and any insurance for the camp, I don t know I went to the camp to have fun I did not pay any attention to the signing in anything else to start the camp. After that, I went and found my group I was supposed to be in which turned out to be the second goalie group. In the second goalie group, we were more like a group of people that have some problems with ourselves. Most of the people in our group would talk when our coach talked or wanted them to pay attention. Then there were the other people, like me, in the group who wanted to get as far as possible in training and wanted to
  • 10. God Is Omnipotent And Can Not Make Evil Good 1.If God is omnipotent, then God will be able to make evil good. Do you agree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer. My opinion to this statement does not come immediately. For this reason I plan to briefly investigate the arguments for four main sub premises that either support or reject the statement If God is omnipotent, then God will be able to make evil good . These premise s are: (A) God is not omnipotent and cannot make evil good (B) God is omnipotent, but cannot make evil good (i) God is omnipotent and chooses not to make evil good (C) God is omnipotent and can make evil good. Arguments that support Premise (i) deny statement A of any truth. If reasoning behind statement (i) provide sufficient evidence to support premise (i) then I will be disagree with statement A. Arguments for Premise (ii and iii) ascribe partial truth to statement A but distinguish between God s ability to possess the potential to make evil good v.s. God possessing this ability and wanting to make evil good. This distinction supports premise A in similar ways for both premise (ii and iii) raise a paradoxical puzzle into what disposition God takes as one who is supposedly omnipotent, omnibenevolent and omnipresent. Reasoning for premise (iv) defends theism and the traditional form God is ascribed to have. The reason I have separated Statement Z into four sub premises is because how these four sub premises are defended and countered works to serve the validity of

Essay Theory of the Absurd According to critic Mark Esslin, the concept of Theatre of the Absurd relates to the playwrights loosely grouped under the label of the absurd attempt to convey their sense of bewilderment, anxiety, and wonder in the face of an inexplicable universe ( The Theatre ). Esslin stressed the fact that plays and stories belonging to the Theatre of the Absurd were composed of situations dealing with the way a humanreacts to an event, without any form of importance, thus only stressing over insignificant things and rejecting the notion of logic. Albert Camus, a major writer of the Theatre of the Absurd , construes the Absurd by completely varying this concept through the human personality, exemplified by The Strangerand The Myth of... While Meursault is a strong believer of this concept, humanity attempts to form reasonable justifications for an insane wrongdoing. In the story, Meursault states that The truth is I never have much to say. I just keep quiet (Camus 104). Thus, by Meursault statement, Camus stresses the absurdity of silence as the prosecution unravels why Meursault committed murder of the Arab. The Stranger opens up with a simple quote: Maman died today. Or yesterday maybe, I don t know. I got a telegram from the home: Mother deceased. Funeral tomorrow. Faithfully yours. That doesn t mean anything. Maybe it was yesterday (Camus 3). This abrupt and distinctive introduction expresses the attitude that Meursault possesses that there is simply no meaning to life as a whole a true stranger to the world. Furthermore, the trial in which Meursault partakes is absurd in itself because the judge, prosecutors, and jury try to find meaning where there is none to be found ( Albert ). Moreover, Meursault implies that fact that he does not have any particular reason to live, and death is the only way to go. His apathy and indifference about life further reveal the absurd in this novel. According to McCarthy, Meursault is not truly saddened by his mother s death because in his mind, death is an unavoidable force mankind is destined to die. During Meursault s mother s funeral,

Another reason as to why the ancient games are regarded highly is because Persian king Xerxes, on hearing that Olympia awarded only wreath prizes, marveled that Greeks competed not for material reward, but only for honor (Kyle 34). The games were often associated with physical effort, fair competition..., and sacred truce (Callebat 556). The ancient games were meant to create a sense of peace for festivities dedicated to their gods. To do something underhanded was not justifiable. Ancient Greece was not a unified state at the time of its birth up until the Macedonia king, Philip the II, conquered it. It was originally split up into many city states, such as Sparta and Athens, which would fight amongst each other. At one point, the ancient games existed but it eventually went away due to all the conflict. However, according to Pausanias, a Greek traveler and geographer, the ancient games were brought back because Greece was grievously worn [down from the] internal strife and plague ( DESCRIPTION OF GREECE ). This is further supported by another Greek lyric poet, Pindar, who wrote under the power of noble joys, malignant pain is subdued and dies, whenever god sent Fate lifts prosperity on high ( Pindar ). Noble joys could be interpreted as the festivities and the games while the malignant pain could

  • 23. Medea Dilemma Analysis Euripides, an influential dramatist in Greek culture is celebrated for his famous tragedies which examine the shadier side of human nature. Many of Euripides s plays present the audience with a dilemma. As one reviews the passages and unfolding story, the message causes the reader to dig deep and evaluate personal morals because the play is intended to be a tragic moral dilemma. In the play Medea, Euripidesgives his audience many different situations to consider. One specific dilemma causes the reader to question Medea s state of mind. Situations arise whereupon the reader contemplates whether Medea acted out of reckless rage or with rational, well thought out plans. At the onset of the play, the reader is introduced to the first character, the nurse. A concerned monologue ensues and the nurse bewails the dire situation of her mistress, Medea. In this monologue, one hears, through the tormented ravings of the nurse, how furious and upset Medea has been acting. The nurse is even fearful for the safety of Medea s children because of Medea s actions. This point of view aids the reader in examining how others in Medea s life view her thus giving the audience an initial view of Medea through another character s lens. Soon after the nurse s grief stricken rantings, Medea is introduced: Aiai. / I have suffered in my wretchedness, suffered woes which call for great laments. O accursed children of a hateful mother, may you die with your father, may the whole house fall in ruin (Euripides 4). From these first few lines, one could pose the unthinkable question, Who could hurt their own children ? Most likely, the average man and woman care for and are anxious for the safety of their children. If Medea is considering harming her children, the reader could question the clarity of her conscience. The natural man s instinct could trigger at this point and a question could be established. How could a mother speak these dark words about her own offspring? One could begin to rationalize the situation and establish a summary of Medea s emotional outburst. Hopefully, a motherly instinct will overpower the rantings of flaunted anger and Medea will remember the love for her children. Medea herself says in this line

(National Geographic News) Lucy was found on November 24, 1974 in Hardar, Ethiopia by paleontologists Tom Gray and Donald Johanson. While Lucy may not be the earliest human ancestor she is the first Australopithecus afarensis skeleton found, with her remains being 3.2 million years old. Lucy s nickname was inspired by the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. While it is unsure who exactly gave this 3.2 million year old skeleton the nickname Lucy, it stuck and the skeleton has been referred to as Lucy ever since. Lucy has been identified as a hominid because she walked upright, which is one of the foremost characteristics of the zoological family Hominidae. Hominidae

His son Johann was a professional tenor at the court in Bonn and also played piano and violin. As Beethoven began to exhibited his outstanding musical talent at a young age, his father pushed for him to become a child prodigy. Although some of the ideas used in the Ninth Symphony appear in sketches of 1817 18, Beethoven only began concentrated work on the score in 1822. It occupied him throughout 1823, and he completed it in February 1824. The first performance took place at the Karntnerthor Theater in Vienna on May 7, 1824. Vasovagal Syncope, also known as fainting, neurocardiogenic syncope, and neurally mediated syncope, is a very common condition, occurring in roughly half of all people at least once within their life; three percent of the population develops it repeatedly. It is not a serious condition.(2) A vasovagal response involves a decrease in the volume of blood that is returned to the heart, which enervates the baroreceptors(2) in the sympathetic nervous system to increase the force of each contraction of the heart. Consequently, the opposing parasympathetic nervous system is alerted to slow the heart rate and dilate the surrounding veins and arteries. These responses of the nervous system cause the blood pressure to drop very low, causing syncope (loss of consciousness).(1) Most patients are young and healthy, although vasovagal syncope can occur in the elderly population that has preexisting cardiac problems. Extremely hot weather and blood alcohol levels are typical triggers. Some patients suffer from several, often attacks, while others may only experience them sporadically.(3) While standing, the blood tends to settle in the legs.

Compare And Contrast The Movie And Maria Full Of Grace The film, Maria full of grace and the book, Open Veins of Latin America share a plethora of similarities and differences, however, what these two substances do is substantially support each other. Although the film is a work of fiction, the movie does an excellent job in supplementing the information that is offered in the book which will be explained further in the essay. A major difference between the book and the film is that the film seems to be more personal while the book is more impersonal. To begin, the film Maria full of grace, presents a young woman, Maria who lives in a household where it is seen that her family is struggling financially and that her family essentially relies on her and her mother for financial income. It could be inferred from the film that the family is struggling because once Maria quit her job in the factory, her mother and sister whom who has a child are appalled at this act. As mentioned, prior you get a more personal feel to this film in contrast from the book. This is shown through her interactions with her family, coworkers/ friends, and boyfriend. • 47. Review Of Sonata V Of John Cage s Sonatas And... In this essay we will analyze two modern musical pieces. These pieces are namely Sonata V from John Cage s Sonatas and Interludes, and Caballito Negro by George Crumb. Composed in mid twentieth century, both pieces made a great success and they are worth examining in terms of the historical and subjective values affecting their achievements. Sonata V of John Cage has binary form which consists of small ranged irregular phrases. The piece as a whole does not have a distinct melody. The first section has a smooth, repetitive rhythm, and percussive sound of prepared piano is ethereal. There is a regular pulse throughout the first section, and the pulse is delayed in some places with a couple of extra notes ( Sonata V, 0:12 0:16). The second part is more like the developmental part of the Classical sonata form. It is more dissonant and irregular, and there are pauses between some phrases. The piece as a whole differs from Western musicin almost every aspect. Some parts of the piece resemble African drumming ( Sonata V, 0:47 0:52). However, Cage was actually inspired from Javanese Gamelan, an orchestra of metallic percussion from Indonesia (Forney et. al., 374). As Alex Ross describes, Cage love[s] noise (366). This should be why he decided to alter his piano in a conceptually violent and unusual way for Sonatas and Interludes. Though, Cage s aim was not pure violence, as we are pleased by the soft sounds instead of being battered by some unholy racket (Ross, 366). I

Rebellious men from other states such as Georgia entered Florida with expectations of outright taking the Seminole stallions and cows, not caring and having little to no regret if an Indian was killed while trying to defend his property. The Seminole warriors, looking for requital, led attacks of retaliation against honest pilgrims in Georgia. Privateers and British go getters meandered the range, actuating the Indians against the Americans, whose eager for land expansionists pined for the domain south of the Georgia outskirt. Authorities of the disintegrating Spanish Empire, whose banner flew over the state, were feeble to control occasions or stop the viciousness.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gen. Edmund P. Gaines sent troops to Fowltown, a Seminole town, to capture chief Neamathla, for resisting the power of the United States. The three battles between the United States and the Seminole Indians of Florida took place before the American Civil War, and in the end brought about the opening of the Seminole s land for abuse from the white man and settlement of their land. From 1835 to 1842 The Second Seminole War was fought after the refusal of most Seminoles to surrender the reservation that had been settled for them north of Lake Okeechobee and to move west of the Mississippi River. The third war from 1855 1858 was an effort to track down the last of the Seminole remaining in
  • 53. Types Of Exchange Rate During The Asian Financial Crisis Introduction An exchange rate tells you how much of one currency you can exchange for another. Generally, there are two types of exchange rate which is widely used by many countries: fixed and floating exchange rate. Nowadays, it is necessary to know what are their advantages as domestic currencies are essential to the method that economies run. But they are both not perfect. In 1973, with the collapse of the Bretton Woods system, countries that used fixed exchange rate were seriously affected and floating exchange rate rose afterward. However, there still had some debates on both fixed rate and floating exchange rate. Especially after the Asian financial crisis in 1997, the debates became more intense. A fixed exchange rate once again favored by some countries. As we can see from the history, they have benefits and drawbacks. Each of them has their own characteristics. It is not possible to determine which exchange rate is better because the choice of the appropriate one may vary from different countries. In other words, the exchange rate regime changes along with the development of the international economic environment. That is why there are some different exchange rate regimes which lies between them in reality. Developing countries that have unstable economies and politics mostly use the fixed exchange rate to guarantee their residents a normal standard of living. On the other hand, developed countries such as the U.S, Great Britain are using floating exchange because
  • 54. The Pros And Cons Of Portland Pozzolana Cement 4.What is PPC Cement? What is Pozzolana? Pozzolana is a compounds possessing cement properties formed by silica materials with very little cement properties, reacted with calcium hydroxide at ambient temperature. In short but very long buildings, there are many damaging effects during earthquake shaking. And, in large plan area buildings like warehouses, the horizontal seismic forces can be much more to be carried by columns and walls. Horizontal Layout of Buildings In short, the simple geometry buildings have performed better during the earthquakes. Buildings with re entrant corners, such as those U, V, H and + shaped in plan, have been able to sustain significant damage. Many times, the bad effects of earthquakes can be avoided by making the buildings in two parts. Like, an L shaped plan can be divided into two rectangular plan shapes using a partition point at the junction. At times, the plan of buildings is simple, but the columns/walls are not equally distributed. Such buildings tend to twist during earthquake or shaking. Vertical Layout of Buildings The earthquake forces developed at a building differs for different floor levels. This force is supposed to be brought down along the shortest height to the ground or it may path results in poor performance of the

After the road trip to Colorado did you and your sister still get along? If I could ask Raina three questions I would ask her those because I still don t get how at first she didn t get along with her sister when Raina couldn t wait to be a big sister. My first question was: Why didn t you and your sister get along at first? I would ask Raina that because as said in the book her sister was cute, but she s also a cranky, grouchy baby, and mostly prefers to play by herself but Raina could ve tried playing with her or talk to her and maybe Amara wouldn t be a grouchy girl. I would want to ask her that because as said in the book Amara was cute, but she s also a cranky, grouchy baby Raina couldn t wait to be a big sister. But once Amara is born things aren t quite how she expected them to be. She was a cute baby, but she was also a ranky grouchy baby with a bad attitude most of the time she was mad. The second question I would ask Raina would be: Why was Amara always mad? Things that lead me wonder about why she was always mad was when Raina would try to play with her but Amara would prefer playing by herself. That made me think Amara was always mad because she didn t want anyone playing with her. The third question that I would ask Raina is: After the road trip to Colorado did you and your sister get along? I would ask her that because when the car stopped and they were so bored and didn t have anything to do they started playing and were sisters after all. But something that lead me wonder this was what if Amara stopped Raina from getting rid of her snake because she didn t want her to get rid of it because it meant a lot to her but Amara was just lying and said that to stop her. I wonder why she would stop her when at first they didn t get along
  • 56. Jewish Temple Essay It is important to examine The Temple and Jerusalem s past, to understand their significance to First Century Jewish People. To evaluate the significance of the Temple, it is vital to acknowledge what the temple meant before and after the diaspora, and the similarities and differences between the first and second temples. When the First Temple was being built, King Solomon felt convicted to use only the finest materials, expensive cedar wood, stone and gold were all used (1Cron 29:1 5, 1 Kings 5:6, 5:17, 9:10). Verses that surround Jerusalem, in terms of prophecy are important to note as prophecy gave an indication to the Jews over what their spiritual and national goals and identity should be. Zechariah 12, Isaiah 2:3 and Micah 4 are just a few passages in the Bible where prophecy has been spoken over Israel, and Jerusalem. During exile, Jews, for a century lived thinking that God had deserted them (Psalm 137). Due to their exile, returning Jews to Jerusalem could feel and experience a greater sense of national identity as it meant returning to God s chosen land. Jews felt a closer sense of connection to their faith whist being in Jerusalem. Being in God s chosen land made the Jews feel like Gods chosen people. Jerusalem is significant because of the spiritual places it holds. To have lost the temple to the Babylonians in 586BC and to see it execrated by Zeus worship in 167BC (1Macc 1:41 61) were occurrences made worse because it happened to Gods only dwelling. The city is significant, as unlike other Ancient Eastern people, it held the only Temple to worship, sacrifice to, and house God. The city itself became important to the Jews as, this was the only city that they could travel to for important Jewish festivals and for
