God s Foolishness Is Better Than Human Wisdom
For God s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God s weakness is stronger than human
strength. Consider your own call, brothers and sisters: not many of you were wise by human
standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in
the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose
what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are, so that
no one might boast in the presence of God. He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, who became
for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, in order that, as it is
written, Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:25 31 Because the foolishness of
God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.Christ on the cross appeared to
be weakness in the eyes of people; but that weakness of God was stronger than men and everything
that men could produce. [22] The sign seeking Jews could not comprehend the mighty sign of the
prophet Jonah, enacted before their very eyes; and the wisdom seeking Greeks could not discern the
most profound wisdom in all history, not even after it had been preached to them! Despite this,
however, the rolling centuries have vindicated the truth which Paul here proclaimed. We have
borrowed this subtitle from Barclay, for it accurately summarizes the argument Paul was about to
make. He would use the

Shoulder Injury Research Paper
One of the most common injuries among athletes is found to be in the shoulder region, which entails
the shoulder joint and the shoulder girdle. The shoulder joint, is commonly referred to as the
glenohumeral joint (ball and socket joint consisting of the ball/end of the humerus bone that sits in the
socket of the shoulder). The overall shoulder region also entails the shoulder girdle (the
scapula/shoulder blade), and clavicle (collar bone). The shoulder joint is predominantly vulnerable to
injury because the large range of movement that it is capable of and the relatively small joint surfaces.
In turn, this means that the joint itself is much less stable and therefore requires a number of sturdy
muscles, ligaments, and tendons and to maintain the stability. ... Show more content on

Sadly, this exact positioning is what sets us up for shoulder impingement, and or a rotator cuff/labrum
tear, down the road. Sadly, most people do not like to put a pause on their busy daily lives, and in turn
many people have a tendency to ignore the pain and play through shoulder injuries. In turn, this only
aggravates the condition and possibly causes more problems in the long run. People also may
underestimate the extent of the injury because they do not want to appear weak, and interpret it as
steady pain, or weakness in the arm, and cause limitation of joint motion can become almost second

Straight Outta Sacred Film Analysis
Straight Outta Compton tells the mostly true story of the formation, rise, and eventual separation of
the hip hop group N.W.A. in the late 1980s. N.W.A. was an influential force in rap music and is today
considered the forerunner of gangsta rap. In this movie, Eazy E, Dr. Dre, and Ice Cube are the main
characters while other featured characters are manager Jerry Heller, MC Ren, and DJ Yella. The movie
gives a brief background on each of the main three characters and shows how they joined forces to
create a powerful rap group which gave voice to the racial tensions and realities of life in south central
Los Angeles during the 1980s and early 1990s.
Summary
As young black men who grew up and lived in south central Los Angeles, California in the mid to late
1980s, the future members of N.W.A. experienced firsthand the effects of the War on Drugs, heavy
gang presence, and the growing racial tensions in their community. Law enforcement was raiding
houses as part of the drug wars, the government was passing policies that resulted in unequal
sentencing for crack possession, and there were high rates of gang violence. The members of N.W.A.

not exist when N.W.A. was creating and performing music and many of the people that they reached

Question 1: Explain the theoretical rationale for the NPV approach to investment appraisal and
compare the strengths and weaknesses of the NPV approach to two other commonly used approaches.
(30 marks)
This first section of this paper will provide a brief explanation on theoretical rationale for the net
present value (NPV) method of investment appraisal and then compare its strengths and weaknesses to
two alternative methods of investment appraisal, those of internal rate of return (IRR) and pay back.
Theoretical rationale for the NPV approach
The net present value rule or NPV devised by Hirshleifer (1958), is the fundamental model of how
firms decide whether to invest in a project, commonly known as the investment decision , or ... Show

G is also happy to invest because they can borrow against the future payoff of the investment. By
investing G gets £20,000 more to spend today (£200,000 less £180,000). It would pay for either
investor to borrow to invest in the opportunity due to the returns on offer.
Despite the reality of known imperfections in capital markets (e.g. taxation, transaction costs,
asymmetric information), overall the use of NPV makes sense as a corporate objective. Certain
imperfections can be modelled into financials, providing a more realistic picture. Brealey et al (2008)
state that the use of NPV for uncertain cash flows makes sense too, providing there is free access to
competitive capital markets. This is due to when affirm chooses only positive NPV projects, they will
be meeting the shareholders and firms objective of maximising wealth. Instead of solely seeking a
maximisation of wealth that might negatively impact in other areas (e.g. future profits, return on
investment etc), NPV accounts for the time value of money, opportunity cost of capital and differences
in project rates of return.
Comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of the NPV approach to two other commonly used
approaches
This report will now focus on comparing the strengths and weaknesses of the NPV approach to two
other investment appraisal approaches, internal rate of return (IRR) and pay back.

Saving Private Ryan Essay
Saving Private Ryan
Historical June 4, 1944 also addressed as D day is the opening scene of the movie. The Allied powers
invaded the the beaches of Normandy, France, defeating the Nazi that occupied Western Europe
throughout World War II. This was a major turning point of the war because Hitler was expecting the
Allied forces to attack from the North. This would of gave him time to to throw all his infantry East to
defeat the Soviet Union. In this movie the Captain Miller(Tom Hanks) was assigned the task of
bringing Private Ryan home, this is because of the government s policy ( known as War Department s

what combat was like back in the 1940 s. Saving Private Ryan mainly enhances my knowledge on the
way they fought during the war. Everything that I ve seen from movies and articles show me more of
what was used during the war for example; airplanes, guns, tanks and uniforms. This film also shows
the medical training they had during this time period. What I would have like to see in films was
actual combat battle grounds where the was took place. Saving Private Ryan does have an actual battle

1. D. Nerve impulses from motor neuromuscular junctions are unable to fully stimulate the affected
muscle because the antibodies target the acetylcholine receptors at the neuromuscular junction. As a
result, the muscles are not told to fire properly.
2. A. Increases the availability of acetylcholine at postsynaptic receptor sites. Edrophonium chloride
blocks the breakdown of the acetylcholine and would make the muscles stronger.
3. C. Increase muscle excitation and contraction. Myasthenia gravis prevents muscles from contracting
or acting sufficiently because antibodies target the acetylcholine receptors at the neuromuscular

B. Actin and myosin. Myosin and Tropomysin are in competition for the same binding site on actin.
For tropomysin to bind with actin, it needs troponin. Myosin will not bind to actin without energy,
therefore it can t bind when muscles are at rest.
4. C. Contraction of skeletal muscle cells. When muscles contract, ATP must be produced to contract
the muscles. With any chemical reaction, heat is produced.
5. A. Motor units. Every muscle has several motor units which are composed of muscle fibers. To lift
the shovel, she needs more muscle fibers to create more force. In order to do so, the motor units would
first be recruited.
Chapter 12 Case Study (7th)
1. C. Acetylcholine is found primarily in motor neuron connections. It s the chemical that motor
neurons release to contract muscles.
2. A. Depolarization; excitatory postsynaptic potential. Sodium would depolarize the membrane and
increase the likelihood that the post synaptic neuron would fire an action potential.
3. B. Blocking the action of acetylcholinesterase. The medicine would block that to preserve
acetylcholine and allow it to stimulate muscle movement.

The person who was doing the introspection would be fully aware of when and what stimulus would
be presented to them. This ensured that the observer was in full control of the experience. The
stimulus would then be presented many times. Introspection was commonly done when the observer
was awaiting the stimulus and when they were reacting to its presentation. It was through using
introspection that Wundt and his students concluded that the sensations and feelings are what
constitute the activity in our minds. They believed that the combination of or the relationship between
sensations and feelings are what creates constantly shifting psychological processing. (King et al
2009) At the end of the nineteenth century, Titchener brought Wundt s basic ideas of psychology to
America. He was responsible for translating many of Wundt s works into English as they were all in
German. Many did not now that Titchener only translated what he agreed with and choose not to
translate anything he disagreed with. Titchener called Wundt s ideas structuralism, and tried to study
the structure of mental life or consciousness. His structural psychology had three aims: * to describe
the components of consciousness in basic elements, * to describe the combinations of basic elements,
* to explain the connections of the elements of consciousness to the nervous system. (New World

Cognitive Response The environment offers non verbal communication for individuals (Broadbent,
Bunt and Jencks, 1980; Rapoport, 1982 and Bitner, 1992). This view is supported by Ittelson (1973) in
his characterization of environments: ...environment always provide more information than can
possibly aroused....Environment always represent, simultaneously, instances of redundant information,
of inadequate and ambiguous information, and of conflicting and contradictory information (p.75). If a
person is motivated to interact with the environment, this interaction would stimulate a cognitive
response. It is possible for this response to be integrated into a personally meaningful perception
which influences people s beliefs about a place, people and product (Rogers, 1979; Golledge, 1987;
Kaplan and Kaplan, 1982 and Rapoport, 1982). In the retailing literature, there is some support for the
view that store environment can induce cognitive responses which in turn may affect shopping
behavior (Marzuky and Jacoby, 1986; Ward, 1992; Sirgy et al., 2000). Bitner (1992) proposes a
conceptual framework explaining how the store atmosphere influences the approach avoidance
behavior through intervening variables. These intervening variables are emotional response, cognitive

The Four Stages Of Circadian Rhythms
Social roles are the behaviors and responsibilities we adopt in certain situations and expected of
people who holds a particular status in society. An example of this is when a woman has a child, she
becomes a mother. Her role is to care for and love her child and prepare them for adulthood. This role
is expected from her by society, but her role may change over time and also differ between cultures
and other people s beliefs. Everybody has a circadian rhythm which is a biological or psychological
process that is roughly twenty four hours long and systematically varies over the course of a day.
Circadian rhythms may include a certain time of the day where your mental alertness and memory,
sensitivity to pain, degree of sleepiness, and much more is at it s peak. However, the circadian rhythm
may be different for other people. An example of this is a blind person s circadian rhythm. Many
people with total blindness have desynchronized circadian rhythms because they re unable to detect

Our sleep cycle is usually five ninety minute long cycles and consists of four stages of NREM sleep
and is followed by REM sleep. Constant disturbances with the sleep cycle may result in sleep

sleep lasting only a few seconds that occur during wakefulness. People who are sleep deprived
experience disruptions in mood, mental abilities, reaction time, perceptual skills, and complex motor

Gertrude as an Innocent Victim or a Sexually and Morally Corrupt Woman in Hamlet
Shakespeare s character Gertrude is one of much mystery; in relation to this there are many questions
that need to be answered to establish Gertrude s innocence through out the play. Some examples of
these questions are, was Gertrude in some kind of relationship with Claudius before the murder of her
late Husband and did she know about the murder before or after it was committed? Does she love
Claudius or is it just her status that she is protecting? And did she ever love the late King Hamlet?
At the beginning of the play when we learn about the late King Hamlet s death and Gertrude s hasty
marriage to his brother ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although she tells Hamlet this there is nothing to suggest that she has any guilty knowledge about the
late King s death or that she, herself, is missing him and grieving as well.
There is no solid evidence in the beginning to suggest that she really loves Claudius, but this changes
through out the play. This is shown when Laertes comes to attack Claudius. At first Gertrude restrains
him, saying calmly, good Laertes then she goes on to defend Claudius by revealing that it was not the
king that killed Polonious But not by him Act 4, Scene 5. It is evident that she depends on Claudius.
This is shown when she faces unwanted confrontation and she immediately runs straight to Claudius,
this is shown after she talks to Hamlet in the closet scene and she seems dependant on the men in her
life. However this also works the other way round as we see that Claudius is slightly dependant on
Gertrude s advice as he seems to ask her for advice Do you think tis this Act 2 Scene 2, but although
this is the case she is not included in major decisions.
As a character there is a great deal emphasis on her relationship with Hamlet, it is evident that she
loves her son very dearly; she seems particularly concerned when she learns of Hamlets madness. This
could be explained in likeness of a mothers concern but it is also arguable that she has no knowledge
that the madness is pretence; this

Nathaniel Bacon Research Paper
Justus 2 We all love bacon, right? Maybe not! Many people have grew to dislike Mr. Nathaniel Bacon.
Why, or how, could they? Well, I ll tell you why, because Nathaniel Bacon is a very important history
character that we all need to know about. Bacon was born in England in 1674 to the famous Sir
Francis Bacon, the lord chancellor of England from 1618 1621 ( Encylopedia Britannica ). Mr. Bacon
arrived in North America in 1674 when his wife, Elizabeth s, father opposed their marriage. Bacon got
land along the James River in Virginia, and in less than a year, Bacon was made the governor of
council of Virginia with some family pull. Nathaniel Bacon was the Governor, William Berkeley s
cousin by marriage. ( Encylopedia Britannica ) Before Bacon arrived in 1674, frontier families were
just barely getting by. The weather was bad leading to less crop harvest and taxes were high. The
colonists grew angry with the government, saying the neighboring Indians should be removed ( Saint
or Sinner? ). The colonists at once take the reins and form an army. However, Gov. Berkeley says they
must not have a commander, or go against the Indians ( First American Rebel ). Bacon arrives in
North America at just the perfect time, in his eyes. Nathaniel Bacon was known to be very strong

The Electoral College Should Be Abolished
Every 4 years, our country makes an incredibly important decision. We vote for the person who will
represent the US in all domestic and international affairs; The President. Currently, we have many
troops in Iraq fighting to help them establish a democracy. We are giving the citizens a right to vote, a
privilege that many people claim we are lucky to have. In actuality, how democratic is our system
overall? What many people don t realize or care to face, is we don t directly vote for our president. In
2000, the majority of us voted for a President who in the end was not determined the winner. There are
many other corruptions in our current electoral system, including the underlying racist and sexist

What, do I chuse [sic] Samuel Miles to determine for me whether John Adams or Thomas Jefferson
shall be President? No! I chuse [sic] him to act, not to think! was the outcry of an angry Federalist as
written in the United States Gazette (Peirce, 23). Since then there has been more than 8 cases of
faithless votes being cast (Peirce, 23). The problem that has brought the Electoral College to the
spotlight in the past few years is the fact that the Electoral College winner does not always reflect the
winner of the popular vote. This has already occurred three times in history: Rutherford B. Hays vs.
Samuel J. Tilden in 1876, Benjamin Harrison vs. Grover Cleveland in 1888 and most recently, the
2000 election between Gore and Bush (Cornwell). Although half a million more Americans voted for
Al Gore than did for George Bush, Bush won the Electoral College 271 to 266, granting him the
presidency (Abolish the Electoral College). It doesn t make much sense that the candidate in which
received a majority of the votes overall would lose. Another way to understand the Electoral College
is to take an in depth look at it s origins. The Electoral College is a system based on historic policies
that no longer exist and are irrelevant to modern voting. The delegates who developed the Electoral
College believed that voters would not be able to make a reasoned and

How Does Priestley Present The Inspector In An Inspector...
JB Priestly (1894 1984) wrote An Inspector Calls after the First World War (it was first performed in
1945); like much of his work, the play contains controversial, politically charged messages. Priestly
was a resolute socialist and had very socialist views. This essay will explore some of the techniques
Priestly uses to present the Inspector.
The Inspector as soon as he is introduced has authority and is commanding of the situation. You can
see this from the following quote, at once an impression of massiveness, solidity and purposefulness .
The quote shows that, the Inspector is probably confident and will be motivated to do the tasks set for
him/the tasks he has set for himself. Not only the family has an impression on the Inspector ... Show

Priestly presents the Inspector as a strong believer in socialism, meaning that he greatly cares for his
fellow citizens and believes that everyone should be treated equally and fairly. You can see this
towards the end of the play when the Inspector makes a speech, which outlines his political views. He
says that we should look after each other and stop thinking about ourselves so much, We don t live
alone. We are members of one body. We are responsible for each other. This just shows how extreme
his belief in socialism is and how he thinks people should live. We know that, Priestly also had
socialist opinions, very similar to those of the Inspector. So you may say that, Priestly used the
inspector as a mouthpiece to deliver his left wing views and his ideas on society at that time. However,
you could think that the Inspector wasn t strictly socialist; he just thinks that people no matter what
their social class should be treated fairly ( I don t think this). In my opinion, most of the audience
would think of the Inspector as a socialist due to his obvious beliefs and speech at the end of the play.
They d probably agree with what he says and also think that the Birling family was wrong to do and
think the way they did. This would result in them possibly thinking that capitalism is wrong. The
audience might develop socialist views as a result of agreeing with the Inspector; the 1945 viewers
may realise that the rigid

The Differences Between Watching The Film And The...
Discuss the differences between watching the film and the interactive media experience.
Interactive media experience is a special multimedia presentation, that involved interactive media
techniques and interactive media arts. Their final purposes are that creating a method of
communication with perception by using presenting content such as text, games, animation, video,
moving image and audio. In short, interactive media is a method of communication to circularly
present a combinatorial information which output from the media and comes from the input of the
users. Smuts (2009, p.53) defined interactive features in two points, he stated, First, I look for
essential features of this relationship; second, using these features I develop a surprisingly simple
definition of interactivity that can help distinguish the interactive from no interactive arts . Whether
interactive media or new digital media, they both are a division of multimedia. However, compare
with new digital media such as multiple images, interactive media is more focusing on the interaction.
The key idea of interactive media is that to build interactive relationship between sender and receiver
at a specific time and space, in order to complete informational interaction. The most significant
disadvantage of multiple images on screen present is that treat the audience as passive recipient of
information. For example, films are in a set from, the audiences are setting in front of a screen in a

The backgrounds of the set were beautifully detailed and realistically colored. The colors helped to set
the atmosphere of the play, using vibrant colors to create a happier, more optimistic tone and using
harsher colors to construct a foreboding mood around the darker scenes of the play. Accentuating the
colors were the special effects lighting, making the scenery appear more realistic by highlighting the
time of day, using more brilliant lighting for the daytime and muted colors for the sunset. In addition,
the costumes were lifelike, emulating the clothing of the time period. The transitions from scene to
scene were quick and smooth without any major complications that interrupted the play. The live
orchestra that accompanied the musical numbers in the play blended well with the play, never

Southern Vowel Shift In Southern English
Introduction
Southern American English is one of the most widely recognized dialects of American English;
however, it is also the most negatively viewed dialect of American English followed closely only by
New York City speech. With this negative view comes the perception that those that speak this dialect
of Standard American English are ignorant. This could not be farther from the truth. According to
many linguists, the Southern American English dialect is rooted in British regional dialect and is the
only dialect that still sounds much like our ancestors. (PBS) Some unique features of Southern
American English are well known such as saying y all for you all; useta for used to; and fixin to for I
intend to, along with the well known southern drawl that comes from the Southern Vowel Shift.
Although the Southern English dialect touches most of the southern states within the United States,
Louisiana does not consist of the same features due to the French influence on language.
Phonology Southern American English possesses many phonological features that make it unique
from Standard American English (*SAE), but the Southern Vowel Shift may be the most recognized
feature of the Southern English dialect. The Southern Vowel Shift affected most of the southern states,
but each stage of this shift may have impacted different regions of the south. For instance, the merger
of vowels in words like pen and pin began occurring as early as the second quarter of the nineteenth

Introduction
The major goal behind school education or any educational experiences is to prepare students for
further learning and more effective functioning in their lives. One of the most important strengths of a
country...is its educational systems...provided that the educational system will be directed towards
moral, intellectual, aesthetic and spiritual growth. (Cho, Trent, 2005, p.9) In Lebanon and all
developing countries, most schools still rely heavily on the traditional or coverage approach to

McTighe Wiggins are the two internationally recognized experts in the field of curriculum,
assessment, and teaching for understanding. McTighe is the one who received a national recognition
for his work Assessing Student Performance Using Dimensions of Learning in 1991, while Wiggins is
well known for his work on backward design model (Association for Supervision and Curriculum
Development, 2005).
I, personally, support the backward process of curriculum design because it looks at the big picture
with end goals in mind before designing assessment and instruction. The focus of this paper is to
demonstrate the coherence and the efficacy of this curriculum design model. Specifically, UbD is a
framework for designing curriculum, assessments, and instruction based on the following key ideas: o
A primary goal of education is to design instruction that promotes the development and deepening of
students understanding. o Students reveal their understanding most effectively when they are provided
with complex, authentic opportunities to explain, interpret, apply, shift perspective, emphasize, and
self assess. When applied to complex tasks,

Rousseau s Discourse On The Origin Of Inequality
Rousseau, in his Discourse on the Origin of Inequality of Men, discusses the beginning and
development of inequality of individuals. Rousseau seeks to discern whether the unequal treatment of
men is dictated by natural laws or if it is a man made creation. When Rousseau analyzes humans in the
state of nature, he claims we are all animalistic by nature. Humans in the state of nature are motivated
by self preservation much like animals and also pity. The difference between man and animals
according to Rousseau is man s perfectibility. Because man has very minimal needs in the state of
nature, no concept of morality and limited interaction with other individuals, he is generally happy.
Because in the state of nature man embodies the quality of perfectibility, he is able to adapt with his
environment. As nature drives men to leave certain areas it forces them to learn new skills as they
come in to contact with one another more often. As man connects with more and more individuals
around him he becomes aware that he has more needs. As men begin to live in societies with more
people they start comparing themselves to those around them and self preservation and pity are no
longer their main goals. Now, they have to do more work in order to be happy such as raise to greater
heights then their fellow humans. Moral inequality is created as division of labor and property rights
are invented. Owning property allows the rich to take advantage of the poor, leading to unstable
relations

Psychological Issues Often Intersect With Racism Issues Essay
Fifth, psychological issues often intersect with racism issues. People generally do not like those who
are different from them. It does not matter whether these differences consist in nationality, skin colors,
sexual orientation or something else. Of course, it can be explained based on psychology. For
example, the history teaches us that for centuries only those who belong to your community were the
only ones to help, while others used to be a threat. Furthermore, racism matter is in deep evolutionary
roots and people have a universal tendency to form coalitions and favor our own side (Culotta, 2012).
Moreover, Culotta (2012) confirmed that in experiments people easily form coalitions based on
meaningless traits such as preferring one painter over another. Examples can be different;
nevertheless, uniting into groups is essential for people. In this case, providing an explanation to
public that race as people dividing concept does not exist can contribute to uniting. Generally, race
concept can be reviewed only on two bases (Darder Torres, 2009). One basis is a biological fact that
all the people belong to one race (Fuentes, 2012). The other basis is that race exists as a historical and
social concept (Darder Torres, 2009). This information seems obvious, when we think about it.
Racism is a serious problem in diverse schools because the curriculum is based on dominant culture
perspectives. Thus, to decrease this hidden curriculum aspect we should concentrate on

Final Paper
Throughout Martin Scorsese s nearly 50 year long career, he has come to be known as a master of his
craft, having directed countless films hailed as modern day masterpieces. As with any cinematic
auteur, his films are often grouped together and boiled down to a group of recurring elements, both
narrative and technological, featured across his oeuvre. Scorsese s body of work continually addresses
issues of Sicilian American identity, guilt and redemption, masculinity, crime, ... Show more content

The plot concerns a young lawyer named Newland Archer, played by Daniel Day Lewis, who falls in
love with divorcee Ellen Olenska, played by Michelle Pfeiffer. Archer also happens to be engaged to
Olenska s cousin May Welland, played by Winona Ryder. Given Scorsese s involvement with the
project, one might assume the film is a revisionist take on Wharton s novel, similar to his take on
MGM musicals with New York, New York, or at the very least feature instances of amped up
language, sexuality, or violence. But his Age of Innocence is as straightforward as period romances
get, resulting in a lush drama where no blood is shed, hell is uttered once, and cigars are favored over
cocaine. At first glance, it d even be hard to watch the film and believe that Scorsese had directed it.
The film was a minor box office failure, just failing to recoup its $34 million budget with only $32.3
million at the box office. Critically, the film received many positive notices, with The New York
Times writing that Scorsese had made a gorgeously uncharacteristic Scorsese film... the work of one
of America s handful of master craftsmen and Time Out praising the way he employs all the tools of
his trade to bring his characters and situations vividly to life. Bearing a PG rating for thematic
elements and some mild language, The Age of Innocence is seemingly no different in it s approach to
the genre than countless other period dramas of the day, such as The English Patient (Anthony
Minghella, 1996), Sense Sensibility (Ang Lee, 1996), or The Remains of the Day (James Ivory, 1993).
But watching the film with an understanding of Scorsese s general filmmaking tendencies, it s easy to
understand why he would be drawn to this particular adaptation for his first foray into the genre.

Perfect Land Research Paper

own is? Well if you haven t that is what I am going to talk about. One thing that I think you would
need on a perfect land is a lake. I think that you would want a lake because if you have a lake you can
go fishing. You can also go swimming, and ice skating on it in the winter. I love to do all those things.
When I am fishing I love to reel in enormous fish. I also love catching any sized fish because it is
enjoyable. I also like swimming. It can be a good exercise, and you can play games while you are
swimming. I also like ice skating because it is also a good exercise, and you can have fun. My

Seligman s Theory Of Learned Helplessness
Learned helplessness refers to an organism learning to accept and endure an aversive stimulus that it
cannot escape even when it is avoidable. This theory shows that having some control over our lives is
preferable to no control at all. Based on the original theory of learned helplessness, one of the key
factors in Seligman s theory were uncontrollability and repeated cruelty or neglect. Based on many
experiments done by Seligman, controllability determines if one is suffering from learned
helplessness. This often leads to perceived lack of control and may lead to helpless behaviour
(Abramson, Seligman Teasdale, 1978). Also, repeated cruelty or neglect contributes to the key factors
in Seligman s theory. It involves aversive stimulus that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once again, dogs in both groups were given electric shocks. However, the reaction was very different
as the dogs in Group two did not try to escape and whimpered instead.
Later, Seligman (1974) introduced the Learned Helplessness Theory of Depression. Seligman saw the
behaviour of these animals which might apply similarly to human depression. Animals exposed to
unavoidable shock showed passivity, in which Seligman felt in line with the typical behaviour of
depression. Other similar symptom were lack of appetite and weight loss (Rehm, 1990). However, one
part of learned helplessness that did not occur in animals was the process of demonstrating learned
helplessness through vicarious learning (Bandura, 1986). There were other differences in the human
models of learned helplessness as compared to the animal models such as shocks due to ethical
concerns. Therefore, researches used variables such as loud noises as the aversive event. Participants
were given solvable or unsolvable tasks and were exposed to a loud noise. Participants in unsolvable
tasks failed in attempting to escape the loud noise. Other research has also been able to induce learned
helplessness in human participants with different types of

Sonnet 130 Juxtaposition
The passage of time is responsible for many paradigm shifts, and most apparent is the one affecting
the perception of beauty. Today, beauty is not solely the exterior, but rather a nexus of internal
characteristics. This is not a new concept, as William Shakespeare hints in his Sonnet 130. In the
sonnet, Shakespeare uses contrast and volta to craft satire that ridicules society s obsession with
physical beauty, adequately demonstrating the necessity of disassociating feminine value with external
beauty.
Shakespeare uses heavy juxtaposition to illustrate his mistress at face value, a feature that went against
the traditional love poem. He begins by a series of comparisons, contrasting his mistress with the
natural beauty of nature. He notes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This contrast to nature allows Shakespeare to mock the unrealistic hyperboles used by conventional
poems of the time, an epitomical example being Astrophel and Stella by Philip Sidney. In Sidney s
work, the love subject is described as having a face that is prepar d by Natures chiefest furniture and
built of Alabaster pure . Although such comparisons to nature were already cliché and most of all,
unrealistic, they were nevertheless used heavily. Shakespeare s use of contrast allows him to mock the
lofty comparisons of other love poets. By directly mirroring the structural and definitive elements of
its counterparts, Sonnet 130 criticizes the nature of conventional love poetry and its hackneyed focus
on external beauty. The volta at the rhyming couplet allows Shakespeare to highlight his perspective
that true love does not need beauty to be satisfied. After the laundry list of unflattering remarks
towards his mistress, Shakespeare confesses that he preciously views his love as rare // As any she
belied with false compare (13 14). This suggests that despite her imperfections, Shakespeare s
unconditional love for her remains unscathed, and that his account of her physical appearance contains

Pig s Responsibility In The Story Of The Three Little Pigs
The Story of the Three Little Pigs originated in England in 1890. In this fairytale their mother, Old
Sow, sends her three pigs into the world to seek their fortune. The pigs meet a man with building
materials. The first pig builds his house with straw; the second builds his house sticks and the third
with bricks. A wolf comes along seeking to blow down the pig s houses and eat them. Subsequently,
pig one and two are eaten, but the wolf is unsuccessful in blowing the third pig s house down. He
attempts to lure the pig out of his house to three locations: Mr. Smith s field, Merry Garden, and
Shanklin. However, the pig is clever and leaves an hour earlier than the wolf. After the third time of
being outsmarted the wolf becomes angry and climbs down the pig s chimney. Again, the pig is clever
so he places a boiling pot of water under the chimney that the wolf falls into. In the end, the pig eats
the wolf. In The Story of the Three Little Pigs the third pig illustrates responsibility in his preparation
for dealing with the wolf.

Examples Of Nihilism In Macbeth
A Look at Nihilism in Madame Bovary and Macbeth
Nihilism
Nihilism which comes from the Latin word, Nihil means nothing, to destroy completely, as seen in it
being the base of the annihilation. Nihilism is the idea that all beliefs and ideals are without
foundation and that nothing can truly be identified or known. Every belief, every considering
something true, is necessarily false because there is simply no true world (Nietzsche). Nihilism tends
to be related to skepticism and pessimism by many people. A person who was truly a Nihilist would
have no desire or belief and anything, they would probably be led by a compulsion to destroy.
Nihilism is often associate with the Philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. Nietzsche contended that

Zeena. He spends that first bit of the novel being miserable and gloomy about his situation, but yet he
does nothing to change it. Instead he allows Zeena to control him, There had never been anything in
her that one could appeal to; but as long as he could ignore and command he had remained indifferent.
Now she had mastered him and he abhorred her (Wharton, et.al, 2009). Instead he is stuck wallowing
in past failures until he meets his wife s cousin Mattie and finds himself having an affair with Mattie
in an attempt to obtain the sense of love and passion that his marriage lacks. Ethan hates liars and
purposely hurting people but he has no compunction about hurting Zeena because he does not seem to

All his life was lived in the sight and sound of Mattie Silver, and he could no longer conceive of its

ridden and dependent on Zeena. Ethan Frome deals with both Existential Nihilism, which I mentioned

having an emotional affair with Zeena s cousin, which he has convinced himself is fine because Zeena

Analysis Of Feet First Into Hell
Feet first into hell , one of the many sayings that describe a battle that has an unpredictable outcome.
The screams of men bleeding from gunshot wounds and the vicious trigger happy soldiers firing away
their rifles at the Japanese soldiers. The sound of airplanes fighting in the sky and missiles whistling
their way down on the island blowing up multiple areas. The heart racing, horrified, and nervous
soldiers fought for their country. Soldiers having only the thought of, Am I going to make it home? .
Multiple American soldiers fighting this battle that would end the Japanese military from further
advancing their support with Axis power. Eventually coming to an end, and the American flag being
raised high. Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima, the historical photograph taken on February 23, 1945 by

minute and the count of live Japanese soldiers slowly decreased, six brave soldiers ran and climbed
the highest point of Iwo Jima. Their objective now? Securely raise the American flag to honor
America and the victory over the defeat of Japan. Throughout all the rubble and debris of the
destroyed buildings and weaponry, the flag of America is being raised. The background of this photo
sets the mood in a subtle way. What is viewable is only the sky with partially visible clouds and hills
that travel distances on this island. The mood gives a peaceful feeling as there is no visible

Gender Roles In Things Fall Apart
Indian Activist, Mahatma Gandhi, once said, A nation s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of

how they believed in many gods. When the colonists came to Africa they changed everything they
believed in; brought in Christianity and a court system. After reading Things Fall Apart and
researching on Igbo culture I have noticed that gender roles and religion have changed rapidly and
completely from colonization from Europe to Africa. In the Ibo community, religion is practiced
through spirits and gods, which depicts how they live their everyday life, how they deal with children
and court rulings. In the book, a husband is continuously beating his wife so the brothers take their
sister. They decide to go to court to solve their problem. The author Chinua Achebe demonstrates, The

Why The Greeks Influenced Roman Culture
Dear all, This is my homework (let s better call it personal research ) for this unit. I have combined my
interests in archaeology and museum studies, and I have created an interdisciplinary report.
Introduction How is culture transferred from place to place? Cultural transference occurs multi
directionally, because of: the circulation of people (e.g. via warfare and migration), the circulation of
items (e.g. trade), or, other pathways of communication (e.g. diplomacy, dynastic marriages, oral and
written tradition, etc.). In archaeological terminology, the practice of cultural transfer is called
diffusion (Fagan, 1996, p. 175 176). When attempting to examine how much of Roman culture was
Greek in origin, the Greco Roman world can offer a great insight into the way diffusion operates.
Objective and methodology The scope of this report is to investigate how and why the Greeks
influenced Roman culture. To achieve this, I will support my discussion with a set of specific
examples. Lastly, as I have a personal interest in museum studies, I will briefly answer the question:
Was it theft? Did the Romans really loot Greek art, and what for? . Discussion The Roman adoption of
Greek culture and arts started via the Greek colonies sometime c 700 BC; yet it was intensified in the
late Third and Second Millennium BC, when expansion into the Hellenistic world opened Roman eyes
to the hitherto unregarded aspects of the mesmerizing

Couch Potato 2 Analysis
I have been to many different musical performances throughout my life, and have performed in about
as many as well. These performances range in purpose and technique from a Native American
powwow intended to unify people of different tribes, to professional a cappella groups performing in
front of large audiences for entertainment. No matter what culture presents music or what genre it
belongs to, something can be learned from a performance. One specific musical performance that I
would like to analyze is the Uintah High School choral concert titled Couch Potato 2, which took

Fred Hollows Significance in Promoting Change for...
Introduction
Good morning/ afternoon,
My name is Mary Doe and it is an honour to represent the Queensland Youth Parliament during
reconciliation week. This presentation will focus on Fred Hollows significance in promoting change
for Indigenous Australia. As you may well know Fred Hollows was an able advocate for Indigenous
health and focused much of his life on ending curable blindness among numerous Indigenous
communities.
Paragraph 1 Who is Fred Hollows and what were his main achievements.
Fred Hollows was born in New Zealand in 1929. He was not only a terrific ophthalmologist but also a
skilled surgeon and social justice activist, as he believed everyone was equal due to his respectful and
non judgemental family upbringing. Initially Fred wanted to work in the church but later changed his
mind to medicine after working in a mental health hospital. At the age of 22, he started Medical school
at the University of Otago and then in 1965 to continue his ophthalmologic work.
Paragraph 2 Career beginnings
Fred started his medical career by attending the University of Otago Medical School in 1951, at the
age of 22. Fred held many different positions in his early career including being a medical intern, a
house surgeon and a clinician before specialising in Ophthalmology. After qualifying as an
ophthalmologist Fred worked all around New Zealand including Wellington Hospital, which was the
biggest in the country. After he moved to Australia in 1965, in the late 1960 s to

The Spectacle Theatre Costumes
There are several elements in a play that make it successful. These elements consist of the writer s
plot, theme, characters, dialogue, music and the Spectacle . The Spectacle refers to the visual elements
that make up a play: sets, costumes and special effects. Although costumes are only one small
component in a play, I believe they are very imperative for the overall feel of the audience. The
costumes worn by the performers portray the personality of the character along with the period of time
of the play. According to a Canadian designer, Judith Bowden, The main job of costume design in a
production is to provide physical and emotional support to every actor through the clothing he or she
will wear to enhance characterization ( The costumes designers role ). There is an extensive history of
Costume design in Theater, an each century has importance.

  • 2. God s Foolishness Is Better Than Human Wisdom For God s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God s weakness is stronger than human strength. Consider your own call, brothers and sisters: not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are, so that no one might boast in the presence of God. He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, in order that, as it is written, Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:25 31 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.Christ on the cross appeared to be weakness in the eyes of people; but that weakness of God was stronger than men and everything that men could produce. [22] The sign seeking Jews could not comprehend the mighty sign of the prophet Jonah, enacted before their very eyes; and the wisdom seeking Greeks could not discern the most profound wisdom in all history, not even after it had been preached to them! Despite this, however, the rolling centuries have vindicated the truth which Paul here proclaimed. We have borrowed this subtitle from Barclay, for it accurately summarizes the argument Paul was about to make. He would use the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Shoulder Injury Research Paper One of the most common injuries among athletes is found to be in the shoulder region, which entails the shoulder joint and the shoulder girdle. The shoulder joint, is commonly referred to as the glenohumeral joint (ball and socket joint consisting of the ball/end of the humerus bone that sits in the socket of the shoulder). The overall shoulder region also entails the shoulder girdle (the scapula/shoulder blade), and clavicle (collar bone). The shoulder joint is predominantly vulnerable to injury because the large range of movement that it is capable of and the relatively small joint surfaces. In turn, this means that the joint itself is much less stable and therefore requires a number of sturdy muscles, ligaments, and tendons and to maintain the stability. ... Sadly, most people do not like to put a pause on their busy daily lives, and in turn many people have a tendency to ignore the pain and play through shoulder injuries. In turn, this only aggravates the condition and possibly causes more problems in the long run. People also may underestimate the extent of the injury because they do not want to appear weak, and interpret it as steady pain, or weakness in the arm, and cause limitation of joint motion can become almost second nature to ... • 4. Straight Outta Sacred Film Analysis Straight Outta Compton tells the mostly true story of the formation, rise, and eventual separation of the hip hop group N.W.A. in the late 1980s. N.W.A. was an influential force in rap music and is today considered the forerunner of gangsta rap. In this movie, Eazy E, Dr. Dre, and Ice Cube are the main characters while other featured characters are manager Jerry Heller, MC Ren, and DJ Yella. The movie gives a brief background on each of the main three characters and shows how they joined forces to create a powerful rap group which gave voice to the racial tensions and realities of life in south central Los Angeles during the 1980s and early 1990s. Summary As young black men who grew up and lived in south central Los Angeles, California in the mid to late 1980s, the future members of N.W.A. experienced firsthand the effects of the War on Drugs, heavy gang presence, and the growing racial tensions in their community. Law enforcement was raiding houses as part of the drug wars, the government was passing policies that resulted in unequal sentencing for crack possession, and there were high rates of gang violence. • 5. Essay about Laurentian Bakeries Question 1: Explain the theoretical rationale for the NPV approach to investment appraisal and compare the strengths and weaknesses of the NPV approach to two other commonly used approaches. (30 marks) This first section of this paper will provide a brief explanation on theoretical rationale for the net present value (NPV) method of investment appraisal and then compare its strengths and weaknesses to two alternative methods of investment appraisal, those of internal rate of return (IRR) and pay back. Theoretical rationale for the NPV approach The net present value rule or NPV devised by Hirshleifer (1958), is the fundamental model of how firms decide whether to invest in a project, commonly known as the investment decision , or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... G is also happy to invest because they can borrow against the future payoff of the investment. By investing G gets £20,000 more to spend today (£200,000 less £180,000). It would pay for either investor to borrow to invest in the opportunity due to the returns on offer. Despite the reality of known imperfections in capital markets (e.g. taxation, transaction costs, asymmetric information), overall the use of NPV makes sense as a corporate objective. Certain imperfections can be modelled into financials, providing a more realistic picture. Brealey et al (2008) state that the use of NPV for uncertain cash flows makes sense too, providing there is free access to competitive capital markets. This is due to when affirm chooses only positive NPV projects, they will be meeting the shareholders and firms objective of maximising wealth. Instead of solely seeking a maximisation of wealth that might negatively impact in other areas (e.g. future profits, return on investment etc), NPV accounts for the time value of money, opportunity cost of capital and differences in project rates of return. Comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of the NPV approach to two other commonly used approaches This report will now focus on comparing the strengths and weaknesses of the NPV approach to two other investment appraisal approaches, internal rate of return (IRR) and pay back. The Allied powers invaded the the beaches of Normandy, France, defeating the Nazi that occupied Western Europe throughout World War II. This would of gave him time to to throw all his infantry East to defeat the Soviet Union. Compare and contrast Wilhelm Wundt s (1832 1920) and Edward Titchener s (1867 1927) systems of Psychology. Wilhelm Wundt was born in Mannheim, Germany on the 16th of August 1832. When his father suffered a stroke his assistant thought Wundt until the age of 13. At the age of 13 he entered into a Gymnasium. He failed his first year but graduated at the age of 19. It was through using introspection that Wundt and his students concluded that the sensations and feelings are what constitute the activity in our minds. They believed that the combination of or the relationship between sensations and feelings are what creates constantly shifting psychological processing. (King et al 2009) At the end of the nineteenth century, Titchener brought Wundt s basic ideas of psychology to America. He was responsible for translating many of Wundt s works into English as they were all in German. Many did not now that Titchener only translated what he agreed with and choose not to translate anything he disagreed with. This view is supported by Ittelson (1973) in his characterization of environments: ...environment always provide more information than can possibly aroused....Environment always represent, simultaneously, instances of redundant information, of inadequate and ambiguous information, and of conflicting and contradictory information (p.75). If a person is motivated to interact with the environment, this interaction would stimulate a cognitive response. It is possible for this response to be integrated into a personally meaningful perception which influences people s beliefs about a place, people and product (Rogers, 1979; Golledge, 1987; Kaplan and Kaplan, 1982 and Rapoport, 1982). In the retailing literature, there is some support for the view that store environment can induce cognitive responses which in turn may affect shopping behavior (Marzuky and Jacoby, 1986; Ward, 1992; Sirgy et al., 2000). • 10. The Four Stages Of Circadian Rhythms Social roles are the behaviors and responsibilities we adopt in certain situations and expected of people who holds a particular status in society. An example of this is when a woman has a child, she becomes a mother. Her role is to care for and love her child and prepare them for adulthood. This role is expected from her by society, but her role may change over time and also differ between cultures and other people s beliefs. Everybody has a circadian rhythm which is a biological or psychological process that is roughly twenty four hours long and systematically varies over the course of a day. Circadian rhythms may include a certain time of the day where your mental alertness and memory, sensitivity to pain, degree of sleepiness, and much more is at it s peak. Gertrude as an Innocent Victim or a Sexually and Morally Corrupt Woman in Hamlet Shakespeare s character Gertrude is one of much mystery; in relation to this there are many questions that need to be answered to establish Gertrude s innocence through out the play. Some examples of these questions are, was Gertrude in some kind of relationship with Claudius before the murder of her late Husband and did she know about the murder before or after it was committed? Does she love Claudius or is it just her status that she is protecting? And did she ever love the late King Hamlet? Although she tells Hamlet this there is nothing to suggest that she has any guilty knowledge about the late King s death or that she, herself, is missing him and grieving as well. There is no solid evidence in the beginning to suggest that she really loves Claudius, but this changes through out the play. This is shown when Laertes comes to attack Claudius. At first Gertrude restrains him, saying calmly, good Laertes then she goes on to defend Claudius by revealing that it was not the king that killed Polonious But not by him Act 4, Scene 5. It is evident that she depends on Claudius. This is shown when she faces unwanted confrontation and she immediately runs straight to Claudius, this is shown after she talks to Hamlet in the closet scene and she seems dependant on the men in her life. However this also works the other way round as we see that Claudius is slightly dependant on Gertrude s advice as he seems to ask her for advice Do you think tis this Act 2 Scene 2, but although this is the case she is not included in major decisions. As a character there is a great deal emphasis on her relationship with Hamlet, it is evident that she loves her son very dearly; she seems particularly concerned when she learns of Hamlets madness. Well, I ll tell you why, because Nathaniel Bacon is a very important history character that we all need to know about. Bacon was born in England in 1674 to the famous Sir Francis Bacon, the lord chancellor of England from 1618 1621 ( Encylopedia Britannica ). Mr. Bacon arrived in North America in 1674 when his wife, Elizabeth s, father opposed their marriage. Bacon got land along the James River in Virginia, and in less than a year, Bacon was made the governor of council of Virginia with some family pull. Nathaniel Bacon was the Governor, William Berkeley s cousin by marriage. ( Encylopedia Britannica ) Before Bacon arrived in 1674, frontier families were just barely getting by. The weather was bad leading to less crop harvest and taxes were high. The colonists grew angry with the government, saying the neighboring Indians should be removed ( Saint or Sinner? ). The colonists at once take the reins and form an army. However, Gov. Berkeley says they must not have a commander, or go against the Indians ( First American Rebel ). We vote for the person who will represent the US in all domestic and international affairs; The President. Currently, we have many troops in Iraq fighting to help them establish a democracy. We are giving the citizens a right to vote, a privilege that many people claim we are lucky to have. In actuality, how democratic is our system overall? What many people don t realize or care to face, is we don t directly vote for our president. In 2000, the majority of us voted for a President who in the end was not determined the winner. What, do I chuse [sic] Samuel Miles to determine for me whether John Adams or Thomas Jefferson shall be President? No! I chuse [sic] him to act, not to think! was the outcry of an angry Federalist as written in the United States Gazette (Peirce, 23). Since then there has been more than 8 cases of faithless votes being cast (Peirce, 23). The problem that has brought the Electoral College to the spotlight in the past few years is the fact that the Electoral College winner does not always reflect the winner of the popular vote. This has already occurred three times in history: Rutherford B. Hays vs. Samuel J. Tilden in 1876, Benjamin Harrison vs. Grover Cleveland in 1888 and most recently, the 2000 election between Gore and Bush (Cornwell). Although half a million more Americans voted for Al Gore than did for George Bush, Bush won the Electoral College 271 to 266, granting him the presidency (Abolish the Electoral College). It doesn t make much sense that the candidate in which received a majority of the votes overall would lose. Another way to understand the Electoral College is to take an in depth look at it s origins. The Electoral College is a system based on historic policies that no longer exist and are irrelevant to modern voting. • 15. How Does Priestley Present The Inspector In An Inspector... JB Priestly (1894 1984) wrote An Inspector Calls after the First World War (it was first performed in 1945); like much of his work, the play contains controversial, politically charged messages. Priestly was a resolute socialist and had very socialist views. This essay will explore some of the techniques Priestly uses to present the Inspector. The Inspector as soon as he is introduced has authority and is commanding of the situation. You can see this from the following quote, at once an impression of massiveness, solidity and purposefulness . The quote shows that, the Inspector is probably confident and will be motivated to do the tasks set for him/the tasks he has set for himself. Priestly presents the Inspector as a strong believer in socialism, meaning that he greatly cares for his fellow citizens and believes that everyone should be treated equally and fairly. You can see this towards the end of the play when the Inspector makes a speech, which outlines his political views. He says that we should look after each other and stop thinking about ourselves so much, We don t live alone. We are members of one body. We are responsible for each other. This just shows how extreme his belief in socialism is and how he thinks people should live. We know that, Priestly also had socialist opinions, very similar to those of the Inspector. So you may say that, Priestly used the inspector as a mouthpiece to deliver his left wing views and his ideas on society at that time. However, you could think that the Inspector wasn t strictly socialist; he just thinks that people no matter what their social class should be treated fairly ( I don t think this). In my opinion, most of the audience would think of the Inspector as a socialist due to his obvious beliefs and speech at the end of the play. They d probably agree with what he says and also think that the Birling family was wrong to do and think the way they did. This would result in them possibly thinking that capitalism is wrong. The audience might develop socialist views as a result of agreeing with the Inspector; the 1945 viewers may realise that the rigid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Differences Between Watching The Film And The... Discuss the differences between watching the film and the interactive media experience. Interactive media experience is a special multimedia presentation, that involved interactive media techniques and interactive media arts. Their final purposes are that creating a method of communication with perception by using presenting content such as text, games, animation, video, moving image and audio. In short, interactive media is a method of communication to circularly present a combinatorial information which output from the media and comes from the input of the users. Smuts (2009, p.53) defined interactive features in two points, he stated, First, I look for essential features of this relationship; second, using these features I develop a surprisingly simple definition of interactivity that can help distinguish the interactive from no interactive arts . Whether interactive media or new digital media, they both are a division of multimedia. However, compare with new digital media such as multiple images, interactive media is more focusing on the interaction. The key idea of interactive media is that to build interactive relationship between sender and receiver at a specific time and space, in order to complete informational interaction. The most significant disadvantage of multiple images on screen present is that treat the audience as passive recipient of information. For example, films are in a set from, the audiences are setting in front of a screen in a dark room, they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In sight of the word limitations, this essay will attempt to cover fewer key ideas highlighted within these texts, but in much more detail. Some key ideas addressed in this essay include neo liberalism, class inequalities, biculturalism, and in part two hegemonic masculinities, gender order and negative male identities. Southern Vowel Shift In Southern English Introduction Southern American English is one of the most widely recognized dialects of American English; however, it is also the most negatively viewed dialect of American English followed closely only by New York City speech. With this negative view comes the perception that those that speak this dialect of Standard American English are ignorant. This could not be farther from the truth. According to many linguists, the Southern American English dialect is rooted in British regional dialect and is the only dialect that still sounds much like our ancestors. (PBS) Some unique features of Southern American English are well known such as saying y all for you all; useta for used to; and fixin to for I intend to, along with the well known southern drawl that comes from the Southern Vowel Shift. Although the Southern English dialect touches most of the southern states within the United States, Louisiana does not consist of the same features due to the French influence on language. Phonology Southern American English possesses many phonological features that make it unique from Standard American English (*SAE), but the Southern Vowel Shift may be the most recognized feature of the Southern English dialect. • 21. Rousseau s Discourse On The Origin Of Inequality Rousseau, in his Discourse on the Origin of Inequality of Men, discusses the beginning and development of inequality of individuals. Rousseau seeks to discern whether the unequal treatment of men is dictated by natural laws or if it is a man made creation. When Rousseau analyzes humans in the state of nature, he claims we are all animalistic by nature. Humans in the state of nature are motivated by self preservation much like animals and also pity. The difference between man and animals according to Rousseau is man s perfectibility. Because man has very minimal needs in the state of nature, no concept of morality and limited interaction with other individuals, he is generally happy. Because in the state of nature man embodies the quality of perfectibility, he is able to adapt with his environment. As nature drives men to leave certain areas it forces them to learn new skills as they come in to contact with one another more often. As man connects with more and more individuals around him he becomes aware that he has more needs. As men begin to live in societies with more people they start comparing themselves to those around them and self preservation and pity are no longer their main goals. Now, they have to do more work in order to be happy such as raise to greater heights then their fellow humans. Moral inequality is created as division of labor and property rights are invented. • 22. Psychological Issues Often Intersect With Racism Issues Essay Fifth, psychological issues often intersect with racism issues. People generally do not like those who are different from them. It does not matter whether these differences consist in nationality, skin colors, sexual orientation or something else. Of course, it can be explained based on psychology. For example, the history teaches us that for centuries only those who belong to your community were the only ones to help, while others used to be a threat. Furthermore, racism matter is in deep evolutionary roots and people have a universal tendency to form coalitions and favor our own side (Culotta, 2012). Moreover, Culotta (2012) confirmed that in experiments people easily form coalitions based on meaningless traits such as preferring one painter over another. Examples can be different; nevertheless, uniting into groups is essential for people. In this case, providing an explanation to public that race as people dividing concept does not exist can contribute to uniting. Generally, race concept can be reviewed only on two bases (Darder Torres, 2009). One basis is a biological fact that all the people belong to one race (Fuentes, 2012). The other basis is that race exists as a historical and social concept (Darder Torres, 2009). This information seems obvious, when we think about it. Racism is a serious problem in diverse schools because the curriculum is based on dominant culture perspectives. Thus, to decrease this hidden curriculum aspect we should concentrate on ... But his Age of Innocence is as straightforward as period romances get, resulting in a lush drama where no blood is shed, hell is uttered once, and cigars are favored over cocaine. At first glance, it d even be hard to watch the film and believe that Scorsese had directed it. This theory shows that having some control over our lives is preferable to no control at all. Based on the original theory of learned helplessness, one of the key factors in Seligman s theory were uncontrollability and repeated cruelty or neglect. Based on many experiments done by Seligman, controllability determines if one is suffering from learned helplessness. This often leads to perceived lack of control and may lead to helpless behaviour (Abramson, Seligman Teasdale, 1978). Animals exposed to unavoidable shock showed passivity, in which Seligman felt in line with the typical behaviour of depression. Other similar symptom were lack of appetite and weight loss (Rehm, 1990). However, one part of learned helplessness that did not occur in animals was the process of demonstrating learned helplessness through vicarious learning (Bandura, 1986). There were other differences in the human models of learned helplessness as compared to the animal models such as shocks due to ethical concerns. Therefore, researches used variables such as loud noises as the aversive event. Participants were given solvable or unsolvable tasks and were exposed to a loud noise. Participants in unsolvable tasks failed in attempting to escape the loud noise. Other research has also been able to induce learned helplessness in human participants with different types of ... Today, beauty is not solely the exterior, but rather a nexus of internal characteristics. This is not a new concept, as William Shakespeare hints in his Sonnet 130. In the sonnet, Shakespeare uses contrast and volta to craft satire that ridicules society s obsession with physical beauty, adequately demonstrating the necessity of disassociating feminine value with external beauty. Although such comparisons to nature were already cliché and most of all, unrealistic, they were nevertheless used heavily. Shakespeare s use of contrast allows him to mock the lofty comparisons of other love poets. By directly mirroring the structural and definitive elements of its counterparts, Sonnet 130 criticizes the nature of conventional love poetry and its hackneyed focus on external beauty. The volta at the rhyming couplet allows Shakespeare to highlight his perspective that true love does not need beauty to be satisfied. • 33. Why The Greeks Influenced Roman Culture Dear all, This is my homework (let s better call it personal research ) for this unit. I have combined my interests in archaeology and museum studies, and I have created an interdisciplinary report. Introduction How is culture transferred from place to place? Cultural transference occurs multi directionally, because of: the circulation of people (e.g. via warfare and migration), the circulation of items (e.g. trade), or, other pathways of communication (e.g. diplomacy, dynastic marriages, oral and written tradition, etc.). In archaeological terminology, the practice of cultural transfer is called diffusion (Fagan, 1996, p. 175 176). When attempting to examine how much of Roman culture was Greek in origin, the Greco Roman world can offer a great insight into the way diffusion operates. Objective and methodology The scope of this report is to investigate how and why the Greeks influenced Roman culture. To achieve this, I will support my discussion with a set of specific examples. Lastly, as I have a personal interest in museum studies, I will briefly answer the question: Was it theft? Did the Romans really loot Greek art, and what for? . • 35. Couch Potato 2 Analysis I have been to many different musical performances throughout my life, and have performed in about as many as well. These performances range in purpose and technique from a Native American powwow intended to unify people of different tribes, to professional a cappella groups performing in front of large audiences for entertainment. No matter what culture presents music or what genre it belongs to, something can be learned from a performance. One specific musical performance that I would like to analyze is the Uintah High School choral concert titled Couch Potato 2, which took place in Vernal, Utah, on February 23, 2017. This concert, Couch Potato 2, is a perfect example of a community performance designed to engage the crowd as well as the performers. In order to understand how ... This concert was put together by all the choral students, from the general choir students to the audition only advanced choir students, with the intention of having a fun, relaxed concert before starting to learn more advanced competition music. Before the program started, the director, Mr. Merryweather, welcomed the audience and explained this, and told that the idea came from the success of a previous concert named Couch Potato. The students then entered and sang songs, complete with choreography, from popular movies. As such, the performance was an interpretation of the composer s, the director s, and the performer s intentions. The songs performed, as I mentioned, were taken from movies, so the composer s view when writing the song for the movie was taken into account. For instance, one popular song that was sung was the Mission Impossible theme song. The composer intended for this song to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The Spectacle Theatre Costumes There are several elements in a play that make it successful. These elements consist of the writer s plot, theme, characters, dialogue, music and the Spectacle . The Spectacle refers to the visual elements that make up a play: sets, costumes and special effects. Although costumes are only one small component in a play, I believe they are very imperative for the overall feel of the audience. There is an extensive history of Costume design in Theater, an each century has importance. Theatre design has believed to be created from the ancient Greeks. Allowing actors to raise their arms without moving the entire costume or being able to kick without ripping a seam. The costumes are constructed to be strong enough to endure the enormous amount of performances for months or even a year. Costumes today are made from natural fibers like cotton, linen, silk and wool. Styles of costumes design will continue to go in and out, however, the principle behind costumes remains endless.
