September 11, 2001 And The World War I
September 11, 2001. What comes to mind when this date is whispered? Most likely it is of the horrific
events that were reported by the media on this date. But for how long will the words terror attacks be
the first thought that comes to mind? What major events will the coming generations remember and be
told about the country? Today a multitude of scholars are determined to never let these events be
forgotten by not only the American people but those of other countries as well. Scholars use their
writings to confront the American public with the unforgettable disasters, memories, stories, and effects
of September 11, 2001. Some individuals may claim that this event never occurred but history states
differently. Countless authors document ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In hopes to pressure the president into declaring war with Spain, a group created the slogan Remember
the Maine, to hell with Spain. The Pulitzer was in need of readers so the staff decided to exploit the
story of the explosion of the Maine in order to advance the number of sales they would receive. Not
only was the story over exaggerated, but photographs were as well (Manning 423). The power that
media possessed began then, and has only increased within the following years. The shock of
September 11 was communal to all those in the United States. No one specific individual could have
assumed that a disastrous event like the crashing of the twin towers would have transpired. With the aid
of the media the American population received every detail of the manifestation in entirety. To the
nation this event was so catastrophic that cities and corporations shut down. New York, Washington,
and other major cities closed down. The government, businesses, airlines, amusement parks,
recreational events, and restaurants even closed or postponed the events planned. This incidence was so
astonishing to the nation that Wall Street and the Stock Market even shut down for several days. The
nation was in great distress and the media swooped in to take hold of their perfect opportunity to
contort the information reported to the American people.
However, this assistance from the media had a multitude of strings attached. Immediately the news

Regarding The Topic Of Theism, One Must Take Into...
Regarding the topic of theism, one must take into consideration several factors when justifying or
repudiating its reasonableness due to its subjective and therefore controversial nature, it is quite
difficult to say precisely whether theism is justified or otherwise. Personally, I am not convinced of
either position yet, and as a recently converted Christian (in other words, I am still relatively new to the
ideals surrounding western theology) both arguments seem plausible and require further thought. On
one hand, theistic belief has existed for centuries upon centuries for so long, theism has ingrained itself
into the cultures and lifestyles of those who believe in a higher power, with Sunday becoming a holy
day and holidays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Humanity has a clear desire to understand and have answers, and perhaps they turn to theism in order
to justify these ideas in which case, theism is perfectly justified. It yields its purpose to explaining the
wonders of the world. Today, individuals use theistic beliefs to explain phenomenons such as miracles,
personal revelations, and supernatural concepts rather than using it to justify science and laws of nature
as their ancient ancestors may have done. However, in any case, both modern and ancient believers
seek to know, and to live, beneath the surfaces of life, and to be aware of the realities beneath the
superficialities (Robertson Davies, The Lyre of Orpheus). Indulging in theistic belief gives more
meaning to life for these particular individuals, and perhaps the common consensus of a widely
accepted faith an organized religion and place of worship further solidifies these beliefs. Additionally,
several arguments exist in order to justify theism, including the argument from design and the
ontological, cosmological, moral arguments. Taking logical, empirical, and moral considerations into
thought, the philosophical justification of theism holds; yet there are corresponding rebuttals that raise
skepticism within my scientific self. For example, in The Analogy of the Watch by William Paley, a
hypothetical situation arises in which one finds a pocket watch in the middle of the woods upon its
discovery, one would figure that the laws

Uses And Uses Of Shoulder Surfing
Currently, many authentication systems are suffer from many weakness. In this research paper ,we see
some common techniques to prevent our systems from shoulder surfing, like graphical passwords, face
detection, pattern locking system in smart phones, graphical secret codes, S3PAS, Shuffling Text
Method(STM), secret tap method, secret tap with double shift method and many more. We discussed
some techniques in it.
The well known vulnerabilities of the textual password are here. To overcome the problem in textual
based passwords we use graphical based password. Mostly, users tend to pick passwords that are easy
to remember or short passwords, which makes the passwords unprotected for the attackers to break.
S3PAS is a complete version of graphical and textual based passwords. It changes textual password
into graphical passwords without changing existing passwords. It supports both keyboard and mouse
inputs.
Shoulder surfing is a simple trick to leak the important information from the monitor, another
technique which is proposed and discussed is Shuffling Texts Methods (STM). It protects confidential
documents.
In these days, Smart phones are widely in used. Mobile terminal stores countless types of important
data like personal information. To protect our personal data, they proposed shoulder surfing attack
resistant authentication Method that uses icon and touch panel liquid crystal. It secures user from
shoulder surfing.

The Big Tax Credits Are More Harmful Than Beneficial Or...
Summary of Problem
Pittsburgh, in recent years, has been trying to reinvent itself as a sort of east coast Hollywood and raise
a more prominent film industry here in the city. This has mainly been done through high tax credits to
filmmakers and film productions, however, some worry these tax credits are more harmful than
beneficial and are wasting tax payer s money. Those who oppose the tax credits fear that the beneficial
attributes to these tax credits are being exaggerated and that there hasn t been a consistent enough rise
in Pittsburgh based film production to account for these high tax credits. This problem is important
because an increase in film production in Pittsburgh would be an excellent source of revenue for the
city and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My Role and Qualifications I will be conducting the interviews, analyzing both sides of this issue, and
proposing the best course of action for Pittsburgh to deal with incentivizing filmmakers without hurting
Pittsburgh and its population. As a filmmaker and someone who is deeply invested in the film industry,
I have a deep appreciation for Pittsburgh trying to build a film industry here, however, as someone who
has lived near Pittsburgh all my life, I need to ensure this isn t hurting Pittsburgh in the end.
Literature Review Pittsburgh Reinvents Itself as The New Hollywood (2012) This article is incredibly
useful since it talks about the groundworks Pittsburgh has set in place to become the, Tinseltown of the
East . The article shows how, due to the 25% tax credit on films who use more than 60% of their
production budget in Pittsburgh and the skilled inexpensive worker unions present here, the film
industry has a great reason to do production here in Pittsburgh. This article is great at showing what
Pittsburgh s plans were for increasing film production and their hope that, due to these efforts, they

About Western Pennsylvania Losing Role in Industry (2015) This article shows how the tax credits for
filmmakers could not only be hurting Pittsburgh s film industry, but also affecting local business

God s Omnipotence Essay
God s Omnipotence
The theological problem of evil is a problem that many philosophers have tried to solve. The problem
is stated as, if one believes that god is omnipotent and wholly good, why does evil still exist? In this
writing I will discuss the solutions/propositions of John L. Mackie in his work, Evil and Omnipotence.
I will do this in order to illustrate the concept of free will for understanding or resolving the problem,
and to reveal how and why Mackie arrives at his conclusions. In the beginning of Mackie s work he
writes a brief introduction to fully expose the problem of evil, and to set guidelines for determining
whether or not the problem applies to one. Mackie states that in his work one must be prepared to ...

At this point in Mackies work he is reaching the end of the introduction and is going to proceed to his
next section, Adequate Solutions. The Adequate Solutions section is used by Mackie to show how
some individual s adopt solutions to the problem of evil that will conclude by proving inconsistent. In
this section Mackie first exposes that there is a large number of adequate solutions to the problem of
evil. He then provides examples of some of these solutions. One of the adequate solution examples that
he states is that, some individuals use the term omnipotence while severely restricting its meaning.
Mackie then provides another example of how some believe that evil is merely a lack of that which is
good, and that evil which opposes good does not exist. Mackie uses these examples of Adequate
Solutions to show that if one adopts any of these solutions, then one will not be able to full realize the
problem of evil. Now that Mackie has shown that Adequate Solutions will not prove to be sufficient
solutions for the problem of evil, he moves to the next section, Fallicious Solutions. This section is
where the solutions to the problem of evil will prove applicable but fallacious through argument.
Mackie explains that he will be trying to consider whether or not it is possible to arrive at an adequate
solution by

Tragic Character Of Hercules
Despite Hercules mistakes, he maintains his heroic stature because of his unusual character. Unlike
many Greek mythology personalities, Hercules holds himself accountable, has many unbelievable
achievements, and is loyal to those around him. Due to his birth, Hera is constantly throwing obstacles
in Hercules way. These obstacles and Hercules impulsiveness contribute to many of his mistakes, but
he heavily atones for it. His overall character is one of the many reasons why the gods had mercy on
him regardless of his crimes. In majority of Greek myths, characters often have no remorse or guilt
after committing crimes. An example would be Daedalus, who pushed his nephew off a cliff over
jealousy and felt wronged when others accused him of the heinous crime. On the other hand, Hercules
feels the need to thoroughly punish and redeem himself after minor accidents. This quality is proved
through this quote from Edith Hamilton s Mythology, He went willingly ready to do anything that
could make him clean again (231). After Hera made him mindlessly kill his family, the Oracle
consulted him and said his cousin, Eurystheus, the King of Mycenae, would be able to thoroughly
purge him. This resulted in the twelve labors that were supposed to clean him, by being near
impossible and highly dangerous. There is no doubt that Hercules is the only person who would be able
to accomplish this feat. His guilt and need to make amends show that Hercules stayed true to himself
and did not let

Comparing Black Elk Speaks and The Lone Ranger and Tonto FistFight in Heaven
Traditionally, Native American Literature has been an oral genre. Although Native American Literature
was the first American literature created, it has been the last to be recognized and, to some extent, is
still waiting for full recognition (www.usc.edu). With the Indian being forced to assimilate, their
literature was forced to take on a written form. Although the traditional way of storytelling has
changed, Native American Literature has survived. In it s written form, it is being shared with a larger
population. Black Elk Speaks (Neihardt 1932) and The Lone Ranger and Tonto FistFight in Heaven
(Alexie 1993) are two Native American works of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the story The Trial of Thomas Builds the Fire, Thomas is put on trial for unnamed crimes. In his
testimony, he assumes several personae, including the voice of one of 800 ponies captured and
slaughtered by the U.S. Cavalry. He is also Qualchan and Wild Coyote, telling stories of murder,
extermination, and dispossession (Whitson, 132). This shows that the Indian still holds on to the hurt
and loss they have suffered. They cannot and will not forget what their ancestors went through to
survive.
Another area the two books share is humor. Humor is needed in order to cope with loss and move
forward. Although we see more humor in The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, Black Elk
Speaks has some humorous stories. For example, I found the story of High Horse s Courting very
humorous. High Horse wants to take a young Indian maiden for his wife. He goes to her father and
offers him two horses for the girl. The old man waves him off. He goes back and offers four horses.
Still, the old man is not impressed. High Horse wants his girl so bad that he goes out and steals about a
hundred horses. High Horse proved himself and got the girl. It was not the horses her father wanted,
but he wanted a son who was a real man and

An Understanding of Roy s Adaptation Theory
The History of the Roy Adaptation Model The Roy Adaptation Model for Nursing had it s beginning
with Sister Callista Roy entered the masters program in pediatric nursing at the University of California
in Los Angeles in 1964. Dorothy E. Johnson, Roy s advisor and seminar faculty, was speaking at the
time on the need to define the goal of nursing as a way of focusing the development of knowledge for
practice. During Roy s first seminar in pediatric nursing, she proposed that the goal of nursing was
promoting patient adaptation. Johnson encouraged her to develop her concept of adaptation as a
framework for nursing, throughout the course of her master s program. Von Vertalanffy s use of
systems theory was a key component in the early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The internal and external environment provide input or stimuli. The environment is always changing
and interacting with the person. The stimuli are divided into focal; contextual, and residual categories.
Focal stimuli immediately confronts the adaptive system. Contextual stimuli or background stimuli is
genetic makeup, sex, maturity, drugs, alcohol, etc. Residual stimuli are beliefs, attitudes, experiences,
traits which may be relevant but effects are indeterminate and therefore cannot be validated. Nursing
According to Roy, the Nurse using the Nursing Process, promotes adaptation responses during health
and illness to free energy from ineffective or inadequate responses to increase health and wellness.
Goals, mutually agreed on and prioritized, are proposed to meet the global goals of: survival/growth
and promotion/reproduction of race/society/attaining full potential or mastery of self. The nurse uses
activities to increase adaptive and decrease ineffective responses during illness and health. These
activities alter or manipulate the client s focal, contextual and residual stimuli and expand his repertoire
of effective coping mechanisms. Nursing focuses on the person as a biopsychosocial being at some
point along the health illness continuum. In contrast, medicine focuses on biological systems and the

Understanding The Piezoelectric Behavior Of Ferro-Electrics
Ferro electrics are an important class of materials which posses excellent electro mechanical coupling
behavior cite{jayendiran2012modeling}. These materials have been used in sensors, actuators,
biomedical and naval applications for several years. These materials behave linearly under low electric
fields and mechanical stresses, but show nonlinearity at higher electric fields and mechanical stresses;
see the review articles cite{kamlah2001ferroelectric,landis2004non,huber2005micromechanical}.
Several experiments have been conducted and reported in the literature to understand the nonlinear
behavior of piezoelectric materials
cite{cao1993nonlinear,lynch1996effect,lente2002domain,davis2006temperature,zhukov2010experimental}.

$1 3$ piezo composites with piezoelectric rods (one dimension) embedded in a passive polymer matrix
(three dimension) are attractive due to their tunable acoustic impedance and excellent tailor made
electromechanical properties cite{topolov2008electromechanical}. Since the matrix materials are
viscoelastic in nature, the influence of matrix in the overall electro mechanical response of piezo
composites have been reported cite{aboudi2005hysteresis, muliana2010micromechanical,
shindo2010nonlinear}. Studies related to the influence of polymer matrix on the electro mechanical
response of piezo composites have been performed cite{jayendiran2012modeling,
aboudi2005hysteresis, odegard2004constitutive}. A two level thermodynamic based micromechanics
theory for domain switching in $1 3$ piezo composites have been proposed to predict the orientation
dependency of the electro mechanical coupling behavior of the composite system
cite{zhao2009investigation}. Literature review reveals that $1 3$ type composites are good
alternatives for bulk PZT ceramics. Hence, it is necessary to understand the electro mechanical
behavior of different fiber volume fractions cite{jayendiran2012modeling}. Incorporation of a more
ductile epoxy matrix causes considerable creep in the system under constant electric fields and
mechanical stresses.

Classification and Scientific Name of Domestic Pigs
The scientific name of domestic pigs is Sus scrofa domesticus, or Sus domestica, depending on whom
one asks. Sus means pig , scrofa means breeding sow , and domeseticus means domesticated in Latin.
Its higher taxonomic order follows so: Domain Eukarya Kingdom Animalia Phylum Chordata Class
Mammalia Order Artiodactyla Family Suidae Genus Sus Species scrofa/domestica Subspecies (only if
Species is scrofa) domesticus
Of the domestic pigs, there are subcategories that are not yet officially classified, but only called by
their common names in regions where they are available these unofficial subspecies are selectively
bred for sale to farmers and pet owners. They are bred in North America and Western Europe for
pethood, and globally for livestock. The scientific classification Sus domestica was designated to pigs
domesticated for a farm setting, but it also encompasses pet pigs, which are truly the same animal, but
bred to be much smaller. Pet pigs are my favorite animals. They are called micro pigs , mini pigs ,
teacup pigs , and potbelly pigs. The pig of my interest, the domestic pet pig, can live indoors like a dog
or cat, or outdoors in pig houses. In case of outdoor housing, the owner must be conscious and cautious
about compensating for the potential harms of outdoor weather to suit the needs of her pig.

The Inner Gift And Curse
The Inner Gift and Curse
Every single person is born with a gift, not all gifts are noticeable at first or help anyone in particular,
but everyone posses something special. Some people can do two digit multiplication in their heads,
have the trait of leadership, be so convincing that everyone shares the same view as them, or just
maybe the gift to bake a perfect apple pie. But with every gift comes a curse; other people become
jealous and remorseful of different gifts, or the gift holder becomes narcissistic and arrogant. The
special gift that the Jews in any time period posses, is the ability to integrate themselves so deep in
society, that eventually they become a crucial part of the larger economy. Although the Jews prospered
at first, eventually the Christians became cold and jealous of the Jews success, those feelings lead to
the Jews being expelled, converted, or killed otherwise know as the cure. This scaring epidemic
happened throughout history, especially the 14th century Spain during the Spanish Inquisition, and
20th century Europe during the devastating Holocaust. Although, the Jews during any time period,
were at first honored people in society, progressively the large society started looking at the Jews in an
opposing manner, it happened over years, the inspirational rise and horrid downfall of the Jewish
people.
When Jews first migrate to a new land, they are looked upon as treasured assets. The Jews hold the

Essay On Affirmative Action In College Admissions
Affirmative Action in College Admissions Should Be Abolished
Every year, millions of students apply to colleges and universities in the United States. The status of
their application, whether they get accepted to or rejected by the school of their dreams, may ultimately
be determined by two words: affirmative action. The Merriam Webster dictionary defines affirmative
action as an effort to correct past injustices, means to right the wrongs of the past, positive steps to
correct past discrimination (Affirmative 1). However, for those exceedingly qualified members of a
majority group who do not get accepted while less qualified minority members do, affirmative action
begins to insinuate reverse discrimination, the unfair treatment of members of majority groups
resulting from preferential policies, as in college admissions or employment, intended to remedy earlier
discrimination against minorities (Reverse 1). Affirmative action is a topic of contention that has been
disputed in the court systems for roughly four decades. It is now time that affirmative action in college
admissions be abolished because it erroneously implies that diversity is more imperative than merit and
unjustifiably discriminates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Did The Iroquois Accomplish
Iroquois: Native Life, Assimilation, and War
The Iroquois nations, one of the oldest and most prestigious tribes in the history of all Native
Americans. In this paper I will be showing why the Iroquois ended up siding with the English through
the French and Indian, and Revolutionary wars through factors of colonization. I will also be showing
some features of their culture, considering the iroquois are not well known in the western United
States, and discussing the fall of the once great tribes. The main reason I ve chosen the Iroquois is
because of my own prior knowledge of the Iroquois, and their relationship to lacrosse. I started playing
lacrosse my freshman year of highschool. The very first thing I learned, before any stick skills or any
basics of the game, was the history of it. Our coach insisted that we knew the history and the culture of
the game, and that we respected it. I was intrigued by how interesting the game was. The game was
made as a form of war. Lacrosse was sometimes even referred to as Little brother of war . It would be
called this because injury, even death were common during a lacrosse game. When two tribes had a
disagreement, but didn t feel the need to have a legitimate war, the opposing tribes would send their
best warriors to the battlefield and play a lacrosse game. Games would be played to a score of 5 7, but
considering how long the fields could be, these games could take hours, days even, however long it
took for one of the tribes to win,

‘Marxism Is No Longer Relevant to Our Understanding of...
In order to answer the question, the terms Crime Deviance must firstly be defined. Crime is an act
against the Law (robbery, murder etc), thus the act is known as illegal, whereas Deviance is an act that

as cross dressing etc. Marx developed the idea of Marxism (a conflict theory between Upper and
Lower social classes) in the 18th Century, when social classes were very clearly defined the Bourgeois

is a crucial concept to Left Realism, and is perhaps the most easily identifiable Marxist idea in Left

which one believes oneself to be entitled to have, and Left Realist s believe it is relative, not material

Realism has its share of criticisms, such as ignoring white collar crime, overzealous in their predictions
of the level of crime and over reliance on Victim Survey s, which are too subjective to be taken as

My Egg Autobiography
For my egg I took a piece of cardboard and cut it into a small square. Following that I cut three slits in
the cardboard in the form of a smaller square. I then took small popsicle sticks and put them into the
holes in the cardboard and then hot glued them to the cardboard. To lessen the impact I took rubber
bands and attached them across the cardboard from the popsicle sticks. I also did the same on the top
with the egg in between. I also slowed the fall by creating a parachute. To make the parachute I cut it
out of a trash bag. After cutting the bag I cut six pieces of yarn at eighteen inches each. The I taped the
yarn to the bag at even places on the bag followed by the same on the cardboard. When attaching the

Ccc Camp History
After dinner, the men had free time until lights out at 10 P.M.
The U.S. Army ran the camps, but foresters, carpenters and other people directed the work. The CCC
fought forest fires, planted trees, built roads, buildings, picnic areas, swimming areas, campgrounds
and created many state parks. When not working, the men socialized and had opportunities to learn
crafts and skills.
Each camp had about 200 men, including an army officer and junior officer, camp doctor, educational
advisor, and the project supervisor.
The average camp had about 24 buildings, including kitchen, mess hall, barracks and quarters for the
officers. Many camps began as tent cities until the permanent camp could be built.
Pennsylvania had 151 CCC camps, the second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Owassee Slide Run is the site of one of the Gorge s log slides, during the lumber era. The log slide was
used on a year round basis: during the winter the logs slid down on ice; following the snowmelt the
slide was greased to ease the descent of the logs. The logs were then loaded onto rafts and arks and
floated downstream.

Basic Crisis Intervention Theory
Critical Incident The critical incident I will be discussing is a house fire that occurred recently in my
neighborhood. The owner of the home Samantha was sleeping downstairs on the couch and was able to
get out of the fire with minor injuries. Unfortunately, the Samantha s boyfriend was sleeping upstairs
and died in the fire. This tragic event not only took Samantha s home but her loved one and
possessions. I have selected the Basic Crisis Intervention Theory because I believe it fits best with this
crisis.
Basic Crisis Intervention Theory Basic crisis intervention theory focuses on individuals who are
suffering a loss (James Gilliland, 2017). In this case, Samantha has lost her loved one and her home.
She is suffering several losses at one time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time of disequilibrium, an individual becomes vulnerable to deterioration (Lewis Roberts,
2001). There are four stages that occurs when individuals are in a state of emotional disequilibrium,
which are disturbed equilibrium, brief therapy or grief work, working through the grief, and restoration
of equilibrium (James Gilliland, 2017). It is essential to guide Samantha through her crisis by working
on her grief and restoration and balance of her emotional equilibrium.
Crisis Intervention
In basic crisis intervention theory, the client s behavior and response to the crisis is normal and only
temporary (James Gilliland, 2017). The grief behaviors that the client may display are preoccupation
with loss, identification with the lost one, guilt and hostility, disorganization in daily routine, and
somatic complaints (James Gilliland, 2017). It is critical for the counselor to work with Samantha
through her grief behaviors and implement an intervention. There is a 7 stage crisis intervention model
that Samantha will progress through as she continues counseling. The first stage is to plan a

Which Jurisdiction Should Govern The Agreement Between The...
The issues are what jurisdiction shall be used to govern the deal between the parties, issues with the
formation of the agreement, warranties, warranty damages, consequential damages, search costs, lost

between the parties Article 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code, the Common law, or the CISG? When
the subject matter of a transaction is for the sale of goods, Article 2 of the UCC is used to analyze the
deal between the parties. Article 2 of the UCC governs the formation, performance, and damages.
When the subject matter of the transaction is not for the sale of goods or is to provide a service, the
common law is used to analyze the deal between the parties. The Common law governs formation,
performance, and damages. When the transaction is for non consumer goods and between parties from
different nations, the Contracts for the International Sale of Goods is used to govern the transaction.
The CISG governs formation, performance, and damages. In this case, the party s agreement would be
considered a hybrid contact as the agreement includes a goods component, as well as a service
component. Since the agreement between the parties is a hybrid contract we can use the Predominate
Purpose Test or the Gravamen Test to determine whether the UCC or the Common law should govern.
Using the Predominate Purpose Test we can look at what the predominate purpose of the contract was

Reflection Of A Theoretical Orientation
A theoretical orientation is the model used to describe a client s behavior, tendencies and personality.
Therapists can t approach and find explanations of behavior or personality in the same manner due to
the difference in client issues, diagnoses, and symptoms. Although different in nature each theoretical
orientation consists of the general themes that can be seen and utilized universally. As a counselor, it is
important to develop and have sense of which theoretical orientation works best for you and the type of
clientele that you will be servicing. While it may be a challenge to pick one theoretical orientation and
stick to it due to the vast variety, it is important that you incorporate your background, values, religious
beliefs, as well as a host of other factors into your decision to ensure that that orientation can be
utilized properly.
So what is theoretical orientation? First and foremost, in my opinion, your TO is one of the most
important decisions you will make as a counselor. TO provides the framework and guiding principles
with regard to how a therapist will organize treatment, and provide the client with the necessary
information to have a positive and successful relationship and outcomes in counseling. TO assimilates
different points of views into a cohesive approach. TO consist of concepts, ideas, and insight into a
clients behaviors and how to effectively deal with them based on past research and outcomes. They

Brown Had A Lot Of Co-Plotters To Help Him With The...
1. The first of the three reasons that John Brown became a violent protester to slavery are as follows. In
his mind, John believed that he was fulfilling their struggle for freedom in terms of the revolutionary
soldier and puritan that he had descended from (3). In other words, the fight was already in him, he was
trying to do good because he already saw what the puritans had went through to achieve their freedom.
It was in his blood so to speak. The second of the three reasons is that John believed that God had
called him to make do this for the slaves. John Brown was a very religious man as it talks about him
going to church and evening going as far as making his children write down their sins they committed
in the day. (17) The third and final reason for John browns turn to violence is the fact that he did not
believe that a non violent tactic would work against the pro slavery people. The massacre of
Pottawatomie was a true example of what John Brown believed was the correct way to handle this
problem of slavery.

slavery. (102 103) So with that being said, I do not believe that any though in John Brown s head had

Texas Government
Texas is the second most populous state as well as the second largest state in the United States of
America (Brown, Langenegger, Garcia, Lewis, Biles, 2014). With a huge number of people currently
calling Texas their home, it would make sense to draw the conclusion that the Texas government must
make this state a great place to live by serving its citizens to the best of its abilities. However, it is best
not to make assumptions and in order to ascertain whether the local government actually fulfills this
role we must look at multiple aspects of the government. To assess how well the government of Texas
meets the needs of its citizens we first must look at the document that delegates power to the state
government and outlines the rules ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an area where public opinion and public policy match in that they both heavily favor regressive
taxation (Brown et al., 2014). Tausanovitch and Warshaw (2013) have developed a means of
understanding political preference in comparison with public opinion and public policy to determine
whether a government is best serving the desires of its people. This type of tool would be very useful
for the state of Texas to use to determine whether the government is serving the desires of its
constituents. But, just because public opinion and public policy line up doesn t mean that the interests
of citizens are best served because some groups may still be left out and those groups may have more
needs than others. Texas current operational stance of pay as you go makes for a very tight budget
where the government cannot always afford to spend money on things the citizens of Texas may need.
For instance, Texas operates its roads with the same pay as you go mentality by opting for toll roads
(Brown et al., 2014). Toll roads receive some government funding through state issued bonds and the
collection of tolls after completion. This system is hardly fair for the citizens who do not use the toll
roads but still must subsidize them through taxpayer dollars when the toll revenue does not meet the
projected earnings. There are also many more citizens in Texas who live below the poverty line, 18.4%
for Texas in comparison to 15.1% for the entire United States (Brown et al., 2014). With a larger
proportion of citizens in poverty the burden to the state becomes greater, especially when funding
remains low (Insert citation). Texas is just hurting its citizens by not being able to provide as much
support and assistance to them as possible. Texas was given the opportunity, along with every other
state in the union, to expand its offering of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. A sample of public
opinion was obtained

Revenge And Adultery In Le Morte D Arthur
Important reoccurring themes in Le Morte d Arthur are adultery, fate, revenge, people hiding their true
identity, (unanswered) love, quests and chivalry HIER OOK. In Le Morte d Arthur adultery is one of
the most important themes and Arthur has a lot to do with it. First of all he was born because of
adultery between his mother Igraine, who was actually married to the duke of Tintagil, and his father
King Uther Pendragon. Secondly he commits adultery himself with his sister, King Lot s wife. Their
child Mordred will destroy him at the end of the book and so he is punished for his sin. Thirdly Arthur

For example, when Arthur sleeps with his sister Morgause and gets her pregnant with Mordred, he
dreams about serpents and dragons that wound him. Right before he gets killed by Mordred, he dreams
about them again, but this time they destroy him. Dragons and serpents, in this case, symbolise
destruction and the death of Arthur (Noodén 1992). The white brachet that ran in court with a lady on a
palfrey and a hart is one of these symbols as well. In medieval times, the brachet was a symbol for
love, which is why Tor is sent to fetch the brachet rather than Gawaine or Pellinore, as they are not
capable of loving the way Tor is (Dagg 1969). Finally the Questing Beast is an important animal
symbol, symbolising a meaningless quest. Sir Pellinore has to hunt it down, but it seems quite a useless
thing to do. This symbolises the way he does other quests, like when he has to find the lady of the hart
and brachet and refuses to help another lady in need. The quest he is doing is made useless because of
that, as he is not being chivalrous. In this case the Questing Beast is a reflection of Pellinore s
personality (Dagg

Explication of Wallace Stevens Snowman
Wallace Stevens explores the perception of a January winter scene in his poem The Snow Man. The
poem occurs over the space of five unrhymed stanzas, three lines each, and is contained to a single,
deceptively simple sentence. Within this sentence, semicolons split up the viewer s actions as the
speaker expands on the necessities of the scenery. Rather than that which is perceived, it is the act of
perception on which the poem focuses, and passive verbs predominantly characterize this central
action, imposing conditions on the viewer and the winter scene which is viewed. In this way, the poem
is concerned with unification of time and distance, organizing a single instance of perception into
multiple actions as the viewer s mind and body ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the peak of winter, trees are shagged with ice, having sat in one place for the duration of the season.
The mind of winter which regards the scene is therefore required to have sat still alongside the scenery,
and so the adjectives describing the trees should be read as interchangeable with those describing the
viewer. In the sense that trees with rough textures are made rougher by the frost, the onslaught of
winter only reinforces what was already an aspect of nature, unifying what has been and what is.
Though trees may take on an organic, shifting quality as they continue to grow, the junipers and
spruces of this poem, already prickly harsh, are frozen in these perpetual states by the cold. Junipers,
harsh trees meant to last through the winter, are shagged with ice, so that the ice only exaggerates what
was already true about the texture of these trees. The same is true of the following line, in which
spruces are made rough in the distant glitter, enforcing the preexisting nature of evergreens, as they
remain the same throughout the year. The second stanza spills into the third without punctuation to
create a pause. The space between the two stanzas seems to reinforce the distance of the distant glitter
// of the January sun, which puts an end to the second sub act of perception, as there is a semicolon
after sun. In explicitly citing the month, the speaker has at the beginning of the third stanza finally
grounded the poem in a specific

Roadside Edge Effect On Fauna

Abstract:
Roads are present on a wide scale and have become vital for ensuring the efficiency of travel and
transport. Their contribution to modern society is extensive and there is a large focus on its
development. With the increase of their construction, assessments of roadside edge effects must be
made to guarantee the protection of fauna. Species richness is heavily dependent on habitat availability

bareness of vegetation and resources closer to the roadside. The removal of trees that is required in

A sage is one who is simple, tranquil, very open to life, intelligent, and reserved. He is not arrogant and
careless to such political affairs, does not seek fame, and does not discriminate opposites but embraces
them. The sage is indifferent to success or failure. He understands that life driven by self centered
ambition will never make sense, no matter how successful you are or with how many positive externals
you care to adorn it. When one does not let nature take its course, one may fail. He understands that

Iep Goal
[The learning goal that I choose aligns with the IEP because it is supporting and providing a strategy to
aid my focus learner in solving word problems. In order for the focus learner to solve word problems,
she needs to know what the question is asking and find a concrete way to represent that. Her IEP goal
states that she will ...underline and circle key numbers, then write an equation and solve each
problem... The learning goal aligns with this IEP goal because it has her master a strategy that has her
do exactly what the IEP goal is asking. The STAR strategy has the student circle or underline what they
know and what they need to figure out, then translate the word problem equation into a picture. By
having the student draw a picture, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The learning tasks present the strategy in steps but then have the focus learner apply them to a word
problem. In lesson one, the focus learner will be presented with the first step of the STAR strategy and
then shown how she can apply that to the word problem. This moves her toward the achievement of her
IEP goal because she can develop the strategy first but then see how it is used when solving word
problems. The learning tasks move the focus learner toward the achievement of standards because the
focus learner will first learn a strategy that she can use to visualize fraction models or equations, by
going through and identifying what she knows and what she needs to find out, then making a picture to
represent the equation, which is exactly what the specific standard is asking the student to do. The
learning tasks help move the focus learner towards the achievement of the learning goal because the
focus learner will be getting plenty of practice first developing the STAR strategy, but then putting the
strategy into context and solving fraction word problems. In lesson 3, the focus learner will be given
plenty of practice, using the Plicker cards to solve word problems. The learning tasks help the focus
learner build connections between prior learning and experiences and new learning for the learning
goal by having the focus learner approach word problems in the same way she has in the past but with
a new strategy. The focus learner has been taught to first look at a word problem and circle what she
knew and what she needed to find out but that s where it stopped. With the learning tasks forcing the
focus learner to go through each step of the STAR strategy in order to solve a word problem, she will
be building upon and going deeper with a skill that she has already

The Adlerian Theory Essay
The Adlerian Theory Alfred Adler was the founder of Adlerian Counseling. He was born in 1870 in the
country of Austria. who gave his theory the name Individual Psychology, because he wanted people to
see that his theory and methods were designed to help clients help themselves. He believed that
everyone had and internal need to be a part of society, and a desire to contribute to that society. That
everyone strives for perfection, and everyone initially feels inferior to everyone else. He believed that
when that feeling is not overcome, inferiority complexes develop, and if a person tries to
overcompensate for inferiority, the develop superiority complex. The biggest emphasis Alder placed on
his theory was the order in which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the others, may have huge plans that never work out, can stay the baby , and are frequently spoiled.
That only children like being the center of adult attention, often have difficulty sharing with siblings
and peers, and prefer adult company and the use adult language. His opinion was that a counselor
should function primarily as a teacher and model for the client. That they should have a health
relationship in which both counselor and client are on equal grounds. The counselors job, according to
Adler, was to learn why clients think and behave the way they do; by gathering information about the
clients family and their early memories. Then the counselor should share his or her interpretation of the
client and try to build a restorative relationship. Adler s goals for the client were to help them develop a
healthy, complete lifestyle, and to help them overcome feelings of inferiority. He developed a 12 stage
process to help a client reach his or her goals. These stages are: Stage one: the empathy relationship
stage, Stage two: the information stage, Stage three: the clarification stage, Stage four: the
encouragement stage, Stage five: the interpretation and recognition stage, Stage six: the knowing stage,

Leonardo Da Vinci, the Epitome of the Italian Renaissance...
Florence, the shelter for artists in need of wealthy patrons to give them an opportunity to rise to fame,
was the center of innovation and creativity in the Italian Renaissance. This renowned city was famous
for supplying some of the best artists in the world and for creating the some of the world s most
treasured art. Leonardo da Vinci, possibly one of the greatest painters in the world, was born in
Florence and lived his adulthood in Florence, the essence and heart of the Italian Renaissance.
Leonardo da Vinci virtually changed the world and the Italian Renaissance by greatly influencing it

Leonardo also used the arts and science hand in hand as was the humanist philosophy. Humanism also
led to Leonardo s study of the human anatomy in order to have a greater understanding of the human
body and to portray them more accurately in his work. Leonardo went as far as defying the Roman
Catholic Church to dissect corpses for his work. He studied nature and anatomy for hours on end to
produce graphic paintings that were used as manuals. Which leads to a second point, Leonardo da
Vinci was a secular person. He was a lefty that at the time was seen as the devil s work and he
continued to use his left hand, even though he became ambidextrous. His peculiar and distinguished
portraits also demonstrate Leonardo s perceptive endeavor towards aesthetics . Though Leonardo s
work is primarily Christian themed or related, he boldly created masterpieces that were pagan or non
religious in nature. This also shows the gradual change of mind of people from the Renaissance from
extremely religious and conservative to slightly more liberal. Leonardo broke free from what was the
standard norm and religious asceticism as was the case with many other artists. He believed in
discovery and that life was worth living now. Leonardo revolutionized styles of painting. He rebelled
against the customary oils and used vibrant colors of tempera to create his masterpieces. He was
renowned for his famous backgrounds and detailed

The United States And The Soviet Union
In the post World War II era, the competition of global supremacy between the superpowers of the
time, United States and the Soviet Union resulted in the Cold War. Many countries in the world were
pulled into this rivalry including many of the states of the Middle East. Allies against the Soviet Union
received substantial quantities of United States aid and were encouraged to purchase weapons of
Western means. Those who were in opposition to the United States power received economic and
military assistance from the Soviet Union. The United States were inclined to view the rivalry between
them and the Soviet Union as a vie for global supremacy. The challenge of attaining democracy in the
Middle East has been insufficient leadership specifically in those who shared a common border and
were in proximity to the Soviet Union. The United States, in their determination to impede the threat of
expansion of the borders of the Soviet Union as well as contain the spread of communion, provided
economic and military assistance to keep Iran, Iraq and Turkey politically stable. Although this was the
goal of the United States, they actually impeded the democracy and political stability of these countries
through its persistent influence in government affairs, determining its future s livelihood.
Saddam Hussein, president of Iraq in the post Cold War Era, used his political affiliation with the Ba th
Party as stepping stone to attain the presidency of his country. In 1966, his uncle,

Compass and Torch
Compass And Torch
I want to focus on congruence in my essay.
As a young boy you need a father figure. Boys need a father to learn how to be a man. They also need
their love, attention and appreciation. Several do what they can to be seen and accepted by the man,
they look up to the most. They want their father to be proud for them. But what happens, when your
father isn t there for you? What if you don t know your father? This is the case in the short story
Compass And Torch , where the main character wants his father s love, attention and appreciation.
The short story Compass And Torch is written by Elizabeth Baines in 2003. The main theme in the
short story is the relationship between father and son. It is written in ... Show more content on

The story is called Compass And Torch , because it indicates the man and the boy s relationship. A
compass is used to guide you the right way so you don t get lost. The two compasses in the story
symbolize a guide to find a better relationship between the man and the boy. Unfortunately, both the
man and the boy have forgotten their compasses, and therefor the father and the son find it difficult to
connect a bond to each other. Fortunately, they have both their torch with them. The torches symbolize
the hoop for their relationship, and what they want their relationship to be in the future. A torch is for
lighting when the time comes, for lighting up the expedition of father and son. (p.2, line 51 52). But in
the end the father takes away the hoop on forming a better relationship between them. The man gently
takes away the torch (p.5, l.166). The horse is also a symbol. It symbolizes a lack for love. It looks for
a person who can give it love and attention. But both the man and the boy ignore it. Neither man or boy
take much notice of the horse. The man steps back and she swings her head out of the way (p.2, l.56
57). The father even pushes the horse away, when it comes too close. The horse nuzzles the rucksack
top and the man pushes her away (p.4, l.125 126).
The short story shows how bad a relationship can be damage, if you don t make an effort, and what
affect it has to little boy not to have a father. In the

Racism In America Essay
I choose the topic Racism in today s society because it is a topic that dramatically effects our way of
living. I believe racism is not something that not only affects certain people, racism affects everyone.
My position on the topic of racism is that it s a negative faction in our society that results in death of
blacks and other minority groups.
The importance of racism in America.
Racism in the U.S. is important and should be know because it is an important part in our history that
shaped America. People are not born racist, people who are racist were usually raised in an atmosphere
that embraced it. Racism is a negative faction in our society that affects you and everyone around you.
Racism can sometimes be the result in deaths of minority groups. With racism in every corner it leads
to people questioning their safety in a government that may have racist authorities who can misuse
their power.

Piano Reflection
Everything was progressing smoothly as my fingers traversed the terrain of my upright piano until,
inevitably, an all too familiar, jarring chord rang from its core. Although I wanted nothing more than to
disregard my repeated blunder and never look back, I knew that this strategy would fall short when I
performed the piece for my teacher the following day. So with perseverance, focus, and fear of a
disapproving glare, I managed to play it through faultlessly. Now all that remained was the small task
of playing the piece an additional four times in a row with that same impeccable accuracy. Upon
realizing the amount of work ahead of me, I mentally kicked myself for not starting sooner and
lengthened my timer from the remaining twelve minutes to another thirty. It was time to woodshed this
until I got it right every time.
Playing the piano has been a rewarding experience for me throughout my life for not only granting me
the skill of playing, but also for teaching me lessons that can be applied to my academic and personal
life. One of the most valuable lessons I have learned from piano is the ability of breaking down a
seemingly unsolvable problem into its basic components or, in the terms of my piano teacher,
woodshedding. For non musicians, woodshedding might be an unfamiliar term and may even sound
fictitious, but rest assured, it is a legitimate word denoting the practice of an instrument. However, my
piano teacher had a more distinct interpretation. The first time I

  • 2. September 11, 2001 And The World War I September 11, 2001. What comes to mind when this date is whispered? Most likely it is of the horrific events that were reported by the media on this date. But for how long will the words terror attacks be the first thought that comes to mind? What major events will the coming generations remember and be told about the country? Today a multitude of scholars are determined to never let these events be forgotten by not only the American people but those of other countries as well. Scholars use their writings to confront the American public with the unforgettable disasters, memories, stories, and effects of September 11, 2001. Some individuals may claim that this event never occurred but history states differently. Countless authors document ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In hopes to pressure the president into declaring war with Spain, a group created the slogan Remember the Maine, to hell with Spain. The Pulitzer was in need of readers so the staff decided to exploit the story of the explosion of the Maine in order to advance the number of sales they would receive. Not only was the story over exaggerated, but photographs were as well (Manning 423). The power that media possessed began then, and has only increased within the following years. The shock of September 11 was communal to all those in the United States. No one specific individual could have assumed that a disastrous event like the crashing of the twin towers would have transpired. With the aid of the media the American population received every detail of the manifestation in entirety. To the nation this event was so catastrophic that cities and corporations shut down. New York, Washington, and other major cities closed down. The government, businesses, airlines, amusement parks, recreational events, and restaurants even closed or postponed the events planned. This incidence was so astonishing to the nation that Wall Street and the Stock Market even shut down for several days. The nation was in great distress and the media swooped in to take hold of their perfect opportunity to contort the information reported to the American people. However, this assistance from the media had a multitude of strings attached. Immediately the news broadcasts became ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Regarding The Topic Of Theism, One Must Take Into... Regarding the topic of theism, one must take into consideration several factors when justifying or repudiating its reasonableness due to its subjective and therefore controversial nature, it is quite difficult to say precisely whether theism is justified or otherwise. Personally, I am not convinced of either position yet, and as a recently converted Christian (in other words, I am still relatively new to the ideals surrounding western theology) both arguments seem plausible and require further thought. On one hand, theistic belief has existed for centuries upon centuries for so long, theism has ingrained itself into the cultures and lifestyles of those who believe in a higher power, with Sunday becoming a holy day and holidays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Humanity has a clear desire to understand and have answers, and perhaps they turn to theism in order to justify these ideas in which case, theism is perfectly justified. It yields its purpose to explaining the wonders of the world. Today, individuals use theistic beliefs to explain phenomenons such as miracles, personal revelations, and supernatural concepts rather than using it to justify science and laws of nature as their ancient ancestors may have done. However, in any case, both modern and ancient believers seek to know, and to live, beneath the surfaces of life, and to be aware of the realities beneath the superficialities (Robertson Davies, The Lyre of Orpheus). Indulging in theistic belief gives more meaning to life for these particular individuals, and perhaps the common consensus of a widely accepted faith an organized religion and place of worship further solidifies these beliefs. Additionally, several arguments exist in order to justify theism, including the argument from design and the ontological, cosmological, moral arguments. Taking logical, empirical, and moral considerations into thought, the philosophical justification of theism holds; yet there are corresponding rebuttals that raise skepticism within my scientific self. For example, in The Analogy of the Watch by William Paley, a hypothetical situation arises in which one finds a pocket watch in the middle of the woods upon its discovery, one would figure that the laws ... • 4. Uses And Uses Of Shoulder Surfing Currently, many authentication systems are suffer from many weakness. In this research paper ,we see some common techniques to prevent our systems from shoulder surfing, like graphical passwords, face detection, pattern locking system in smart phones, graphical secret codes, S3PAS, Shuffling Text Method(STM), secret tap method, secret tap with double shift method and many more. We discussed some techniques in it. The well known vulnerabilities of the textual password are here. To overcome the problem in textual based passwords we use graphical based password. Mostly, users tend to pick passwords that are easy to remember or short passwords, which makes the passwords unprotected for the attackers to break. S3PAS is a complete version of graphical and textual based passwords. It changes textual password into graphical passwords without changing existing passwords. It supports both keyboard and mouse inputs. Shoulder surfing is a simple trick to leak the important information from the monitor, another technique which is proposed and discussed is Shuffling Texts Methods (STM). It protects confidential documents. In these days, Smart phones are widely in used. Mobile terminal stores countless types of important data like personal information. To protect our personal data, they proposed shoulder surfing attack resistant authentication Method that uses icon and touch panel liquid crystal. It secures user from shoulder surfing. • 5. The Big Tax Credits Are More Harmful Than Beneficial Or... Summary of Problem Pittsburgh, in recent years, has been trying to reinvent itself as a sort of east coast Hollywood and raise a more prominent film industry here in the city. This has mainly been done through high tax credits to filmmakers and film productions, however, some worry these tax credits are more harmful than beneficial and are wasting tax payer s money. Those who oppose the tax credits fear that the beneficial attributes to these tax credits are being exaggerated and that there hasn t been a consistent enough rise in Pittsburgh based film production to account for these high tax credits. This problem is important because an increase in film production in Pittsburgh would be an excellent source of revenue for the city and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My Role and Qualifications I will be conducting the interviews, analyzing both sides of this issue, and proposing the best course of action for Pittsburgh to deal with incentivizing filmmakers without hurting Pittsburgh and its population. As a filmmaker and someone who is deeply invested in the film industry, I have a deep appreciation for Pittsburgh trying to build a film industry here, however, as someone who has lived near Pittsburgh all my life, I need to ensure this isn t hurting Pittsburgh in the end. Literature Review Pittsburgh Reinvents Itself as The New Hollywood (2012) This article is incredibly useful since it talks about the groundworks Pittsburgh has set in place to become the, Tinseltown of the East . The article shows how, due to the 25% tax credit on films who use more than 60% of their production budget in Pittsburgh and the skilled inexpensive worker unions present here, the film industry has a great reason to do production here in Pittsburgh. This article is great at showing what Pittsburgh s plans were for increasing film production and their hope that, due to these efforts, they could Pittsburgh from an industrial ghost town to a startup boomtown (Hipwell). • 6. God s Omnipotence Essay God s Omnipotence The theological problem of evil is a problem that many philosophers have tried to solve. The problem is stated as, if one believes that god is omnipotent and wholly good, why does evil still exist? In this writing I will discuss the solutions/propositions of John L. Mackie in his work, Evil and Omnipotence. I will do this in order to illustrate the concept of free will for understanding or resolving the problem, and to reveal how and why Mackie arrives at his conclusions. In the beginning of Mackie s work he writes a brief introduction to fully expose the problem of evil, and to set guidelines for determining whether or not the problem applies to one. Mackie states that in his work one must be prepared to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this point in Mackies work he is reaching the end of the introduction and is going to proceed to his next section, Adequate Solutions. The Adequate Solutions section is used by Mackie to show how some individual s adopt solutions to the problem of evil that will conclude by proving inconsistent. In this section Mackie first exposes that there is a large number of adequate solutions to the problem of evil. He then provides examples of some of these solutions. One of the adequate solution examples that he states is that, some individuals use the term omnipotence while severely restricting its meaning. Mackie then provides another example of how some believe that evil is merely a lack of that which is good, and that evil which opposes good does not exist. Mackie uses these examples of Adequate Solutions to show that if one adopts any of these solutions, then one will not be able to full realize the problem of evil. Now that Mackie has shown that Adequate Solutions will not prove to be sufficient solutions for the problem of evil, he moves to the next section, Fallicious Solutions. This section is where the solutions to the problem of evil will prove applicable but fallacious through argument. Mackie explains that he will be trying to consider whether or not it is possible to arrive at an adequate solution by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Tragic Character Of Hercules Despite Hercules mistakes, he maintains his heroic stature because of his unusual character. Unlike many Greek mythology personalities, Hercules holds himself accountable, has many unbelievable achievements, and is loyal to those around him. Due to his birth, Hera is constantly throwing obstacles in Hercules way. These obstacles and Hercules impulsiveness contribute to many of his mistakes, but he heavily atones for it. His overall character is one of the many reasons why the gods had mercy on him regardless of his crimes. In majority of Greek myths, characters often have no remorse or guilt after committing crimes. An example would be Daedalus, who pushed his nephew off a cliff over jealousy and felt wronged when others accused him of the heinous crime. On the other hand, Hercules feels the need to thoroughly punish and redeem himself after minor accidents. This quality is proved through this quote from Edith Hamilton s Mythology, He went willingly ready to do anything that could make him clean again (231). After Hera made him mindlessly kill his family, the Oracle consulted him and said his cousin, Eurystheus, the King of Mycenae, would be able to thoroughly purge him. This resulted in the twelve labors that were supposed to clean him, by being near impossible and highly dangerous. There is no doubt that Hercules is the only person who would be able to accomplish this feat. His guilt and need to make amends show that Hercules stayed true to himself and did not let ... Comparing Black Elk Speaks and The Lone Ranger and Tonto FistFight in Heaven Traditionally, Native American Literature has been an oral genre. Although Native American Literature was the first American literature created, it has been the last to be recognized and, to some extent, is still waiting for full recognition (www.usc.edu). With the Indian being forced to assimilate, their literature was forced to take on a written form. Although the traditional way of storytelling has changed, Native American Literature has survived. In it s written form, it is being shared with a larger population. In the story The Trial of Thomas Builds the Fire, Thomas is put on trial for unnamed crimes. In his testimony, he assumes several personae, including the voice of one of 800 ponies captured and slaughtered by the U.S. Cavalry. He is also Qualchan and Wild Coyote, telling stories of murder, extermination, and dispossession (Whitson, 132). This shows that the Indian still holds on to the hurt and loss they have suffered. They cannot and will not forget what their ancestors went through to survive. Another area the two books share is humor. Humor is needed in order to cope with loss and move forward. Although we see more humor in The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, Black Elk Speaks has some humorous stories. For example, I found the story of High Horse s Courting very humorous. High Horse wants to take a young Indian maiden for his wife. He goes to her father and offers him two horses for the girl. The old man waves him off. He goes back and offers four horses. Still, the old man is not impressed. High Horse wants his girl so bad that he goes out and steals about a hundred horses. High Horse proved himself and got the girl. An Understanding of Roy s Adaptation Theory The History of the Roy Adaptation Model The Roy Adaptation Model for Nursing had it s beginning with Sister Callista Roy entered the masters program in pediatric nursing at the University of California in Los Angeles in 1964. Dorothy E. Johnson, Roy s advisor and seminar faculty, was speaking at the time on the need to define the goal of nursing as a way of focusing the development of knowledge for practice. During Roy s first seminar in pediatric nursing, she proposed that the goal of nursing was promoting patient adaptation. Johnson encouraged her to develop her concept of adaptation as a framework for nursing, throughout the course of her master s program. The environment is always changing and interacting with the person. The stimuli are divided into focal; contextual, and residual categories. Focal stimuli immediately confronts the adaptive system. Contextual stimuli or background stimuli is genetic makeup, sex, maturity, drugs, alcohol, etc. Residual stimuli are beliefs, attitudes, experiences, traits which may be relevant but effects are indeterminate and therefore cannot be validated. Nursing According to Roy, the Nurse using the Nursing Process, promotes adaptation responses during health and illness to free energy from ineffective or inadequate responses to increase health and wellness. Goals, mutually agreed on and prioritized, are proposed to meet the global goals of: survival/growth and promotion/reproduction of race/society/attaining full potential or mastery of self. The nurse uses activities to increase adaptive and decrease ineffective responses during illness and health. These activities alter or manipulate the client s focal, contextual and residual stimuli and expand his repertoire of effective coping mechanisms. • 12. Classification and Scientific Name of Domestic Pigs The scientific name of domestic pigs is Sus scrofa domesticus, or Sus domestica, depending on whom one asks. Sus means pig , scrofa means breeding sow , and domeseticus means domesticated in Latin. Its higher taxonomic order follows so: Domain Eukarya Kingdom Animalia Phylum Chordata Class Mammalia Order Artiodactyla Family Suidae Genus Sus Species scrofa/domestica Subspecies (only if Species is scrofa) domesticus Of the domestic pigs, there are subcategories that are not yet officially classified, but only called by their common names in regions where they are available these unofficial subspecies are selectively bred for sale to farmers and pet owners. They are bred in North America and Western Europe for pethood, and globally for livestock. The scientific classification Sus domestica was designated to pigs domesticated for a farm setting, but it also encompasses pet pigs, which are truly the same animal, but bred to be much smaller. Pet pigs are my favorite animals. They are called micro pigs , mini pigs , teacup pigs , and potbelly pigs. The Inner Gift And Curse The Inner Gift and Curse Every single person is born with a gift, not all gifts are noticeable at first or help anyone in particular, but everyone posses something special. Some people can do two digit multiplication in their heads, have the trait of leadership, be so convincing that everyone shares the same view as them, or just maybe the gift to bake a perfect apple pie. But with every gift comes a curse; other people become jealous and remorseful of different gifts, or the gift holder becomes narcissistic and arrogant. The special gift that the Jews in any time period posses, is the ability to integrate themselves so deep in society, that eventually they become a crucial part of the larger economy. Although the Jews prospered at first, eventually the Christians became cold and jealous of the Jews success, those feelings lead to the Jews being expelled, converted, or killed otherwise know as the cure. This scaring epidemic happened throughout history, especially the 14th century Spain during the Spanish Inquisition, and 20th century Europe during the devastating Holocaust. • 14. Essay On Affirmative Action In College Admissions Affirmative Action in College Admissions Should Be Abolished Every year, millions of students apply to colleges and universities in the United States. The status of their application, whether they get accepted to or rejected by the school of their dreams, may ultimately be determined by two words: affirmative action. The Merriam Webster dictionary defines affirmative action as an effort to correct past injustices, means to right the wrongs of the past, positive steps to correct past discrimination (Affirmative 1). However, for those exceedingly qualified members of a majority group who do not get accepted while less qualified minority members do, affirmative action begins to insinuate reverse discrimination, the unfair treatment of members of majority groups resulting from preferential policies, as in college admissions or employment, intended to remedy earlier discrimination against minorities (Reverse 1). Affirmative action is a topic of contention that has been disputed in the court systems for roughly four decades. It is now time that affirmative action in college admissions be abolished because it erroneously implies that diversity is more imperative than merit and unjustifiably discriminates ... In this paper I will be showing why the Iroquois ended up siding with the English through the French and Indian, and Revolutionary wars through factors of colonization. I will also be showing some features of their culture, considering the iroquois are not well known in the western United States, and discussing the fall of the once great tribes. The main reason I ve chosen the Iroquois is because of my own prior knowledge of the Iroquois, and their relationship to lacrosse. I started playing lacrosse my freshman year of highschool. The very first thing I learned, before any stick skills or any basics of the game, was the history of it. Our coach insisted that we knew the history and the culture of the game, and that we respected it. I was intrigued by how interesting the game was. The game was made as a form of war. Lacrosse was sometimes even referred to as Little brother of war . It would be called this because injury, even death were common during a lacrosse game. When two tribes had a disagreement, but didn t feel the need to have a legitimate war, the opposing tribes would send their best warriors to the battlefield and play a lacrosse game. Games would be played to a score of 5 7, but considering how long the fields could be, these games could take hours, days even, however long it took for one of the tribes to win, ... John Brown was a very religious man as it talks about him going to church and evening going as far as making his children write down their sins they committed in the day. With a huge number of people currently calling Texas their home, it would make sense to draw the conclusion that the Texas government must make this state a great place to live by serving its citizens to the best of its abilities. However, it is best not to make assumptions and in order to ascertain whether the local government actually fulfills this role we must look at multiple aspects of the government. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an area where public opinion and public policy match in that they both heavily favor regressive taxation (Brown et al., 2014). Tausanovitch and Warshaw (2013) have developed a means of understanding political preference in comparison with public opinion and public policy to determine whether a government is best serving the desires of its people. This type of tool would be very useful for the state of Texas to use to determine whether the government is serving the desires of its constituents. But, just because public opinion and public policy line up doesn t mean that the interests of citizens are best served because some groups may still be left out and those groups may have more needs than others. Texas current operational stance of pay as you go makes for a very tight budget where the government cannot always afford to spend money on things the citizens of Texas may need. For instance, Texas operates its roads with the same pay as you go mentality by opting for toll roads (Brown et al., 2014). Toll roads receive some government funding through state issued bonds and the collection of tolls after completion. This system is hardly fair for the citizens who do not use the toll roads but still must subsidize them through taxpayer dollars when the toll revenue does not meet the projected earnings. There are also many more citizens in Texas who live below the poverty line, 18.4% for Texas in comparison to 15.1% for the entire United States (Brown et al., 2014). Revenge And Adultery In Le Morte D Arthur Important reoccurring themes in Le Morte d Arthur are adultery, fate, revenge, people hiding their true identity, (unanswered) love, quests and chivalry HIER OOK. In Le Morte d Arthur adultery is one of the most important themes and Arthur has a lot to do with it. First of all he was born because of adultery between his mother Igraine, who was actually married to the duke of Tintagil, and his father King Uther Pendragon. Secondly he commits adultery himself with his sister, King Lot s wife. Their child Mordred will destroy him at the end of the book and so he is punished for his sin. For example, when Arthur sleeps with his sister Morgause and gets her pregnant with Mordred, he dreams about serpents and dragons that wound him. Right before he gets killed by Mordred, he dreams about them again, but this time they destroy him. Dragons and serpents, in this case, symbolise destruction and the death of Arthur (Noodén 1992). The white brachet that ran in court with a lady on a palfrey and a hart is one of these symbols as well. In medieval times, the brachet was a symbol for love, which is why Tor is sent to fetch the brachet rather than Gawaine or Pellinore, as they are not capable of loving the way Tor is (Dagg 1969). Finally the Questing Beast is an important animal symbol, symbolising a meaningless quest. Sir Pellinore has to hunt it down, but it seems quite a useless thing to do. This symbolises the way he does other quests, like when he has to find the lady of the hart and brachet and refuses to help another lady in need. The quest he is doing is made useless because of that, as he is not being chivalrous. In this case the Questing Beast is a reflection of Pellinore s personality (Dagg ... • 34. Explication of Wallace Stevens Snowman Wallace Stevens explores the perception of a January winter scene in his poem The Snow Man. The poem occurs over the space of five unrhymed stanzas, three lines each, and is contained to a single, deceptively simple sentence. Within this sentence, semicolons split up the viewer s actions as the speaker expands on the necessities of the scenery. Rather than that which is perceived, it is the act of perception on which the poem focuses, and passive verbs predominantly characterize this central action, imposing conditions on the viewer and the winter scene which is viewed. In this way, the poem is concerned with unification of time and distance, organizing a single instance of perception into multiple actions as the viewer s mind and body ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the peak of winter, trees are shagged with ice, having sat in one place for the duration of the season. The mind of winter which regards the scene is therefore required to have sat still alongside the scenery, and so the adjectives describing the trees should be read as interchangeable with those describing the viewer. In the sense that trees with rough textures are made rougher by the frost, the onslaught of winter only reinforces what was already an aspect of nature, unifying what has been and what is. Though trees may take on an organic, shifting quality as they continue to grow, the junipers and spruces of this poem, already prickly harsh, are frozen in these perpetual states by the cold. Junipers, harsh trees meant to last through the winter, are shagged with ice, so that the ice only exaggerates what was already true about the texture of these trees. The same is true of the following line, in which spruces are made rough in the distant glitter, enforcing the preexisting nature of evergreens, as they remain the same throughout the year. The second stanza spills into the third without punctuation to create a pause. The space between the two stanzas seems to reinforce the distance of the distant glitter // of the January sun, which puts an end to the second sub act of perception, as there is a semicolon after sun. In explicitly citing the month, the speaker has at the beginning of the third stanza finally grounded the poem in a specific ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
