The Problems Of American Schools Essay
Andrew R. Deras Dr. Jide Osikomaiya English 100 8 September 2016 The Most Compelling Problems
In American Schools As we delve back into a new year for students and teachers alike returning to
school to continue with the daily life of academics and learning, we all must be understanding of what
exactly we are sending our peers and children back to. It should be no surprise to most of us that
throughout the years we have seen countless upon countless examples from the news and through
others, that our school system is flawed in some way, shape or form. It is no longer a coincidence that
our students are only achieving 36th from the top in all total curriculum (Arnett). This is also evident
to anyone who may happen to own a T.V. and has been a viewer to these numerous articles describing
these horrible issues we have within schools firsthand (ABC News). Not only that, but schooling can
also be further compromised by politics and law related issues (Ravitch). What my goal for the essay I
am submitting to you is; to give my opinions on the current situation of public schooling in America,
discuss the issues, and back my points I will be presenting, with concrete evidence I have uncovered
in my research. I would like to make it clear that my stance on the current situation is that there is not
only a singular problem with public education, but a number of issues that inhibit students to learn
properly and function as productive members of society. An excellent place to start would

The Patterns Of Biological Diversity Throughout Rivers And...
The patterns of biological diversity in rivers and streams among taxa vary on a spatial and temporal
scale (Ligeiro et al. 2010; McGarvey and Terra 2015). Variations in stream ecology can be contributed
to water quality, habitat, and history of disturbance (Lingeiro et al. 2010). Creeks and streams feed
into rivers and other larger bodies of water, which provide food, water, and other commercial and
recreational services as well as a home to an array of plants and animals which rely on clean water.
The health of these smaller bodies of water can act as indicators for the health of the larger watershed.
Benthic macroinvertebrates have been used to assess the health of aquatic environments. Quality
analysis involves looking at benthic species composition and organization within the stream (Resh and
Unzicke 1975). Different macroinvertebrates have differing sensitivities to pollutant, with some being
more susceptible to environmental toxins than others (Metcalfe 1989). Such methods group
macroinvertebrates in regards to their tolerance to pollution. The EPT Index looks at Ephemeroptera,
Plecoptera, and Trichoptera (mayflies, stoneflies, and caddisflies, respectively) as indicators of aquatic
community health. The idea behind the EPT Index is that healthier streams have a greater richness of
species as many species of macroinvertebrates are intolerant of pollutions and thus will not be found
in low quality bodies of water (Lenat 1988). Previous studies have found that EPT

Prominent Influences In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Mary Shelley s Prominent Influences For the Crafting Frankenstein
Try to put all images of crackling Van de Graaff generators and lumbering, moaning, bolt necked
monsters from your mind. Nearly 200 years of oversimplification and spoofs have completely
overshadowed the original version of this tale. (Camidge, Ross. Frankenstein. Student BMJ 15
(2007)ProQuest. Web. 26 Apr. 2017) There are many influences that contributed to the birth,
development and published text of Mary Shelley s intricate pieces The Modern Prometheus or

influence on what is known as pop culture as well. This work was seemingly anonymous when first

Mental Deterioration Of Alzheimer s Disease
I want to tell you how much I miss my mother. Bits of her are still there. I miss her most when I m
sitting across from her, (Crowley, Candy. October 21st, 2014). This quote refers specifically to
Alzheimer s, which is defined as progressive mental deterioration that can occur in middle or old age,
due to generalized degeneration of the brain. It is the most common cause of premature senility.
However, Alzheimer s is merely only a form of many debilitating diseases under the umbrella of
Dementia, defined as a chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease
or injury and marked by memory disorders, personality changes, and impaired reasoning. Some
examples of these disorders include: Vascular dementia, Frontotemporal dementia (Pick s disease),
Creutzfeldt Jakob disease, and of course as was previously for mentioned, Alzheimer s disease. Each
form of dementia will be discussed in depth including their symptoms, treatments, and their histories.
Vascular dementia is a decline in thinking skills caused by conditions that block or reduce blood flow
to the brain, depriving brain cells of vital oxygen and nutrients. Conditions that can block blood flow
to the brain are generally transient ischemic attacks (TIA s) or strokes. When these occur, often major
brain blood vessels are damaged and blocked causing effects on personality, ways of thinking and
problem solving, and generally can coexist with changes linked with other types of dementia.

Outside View of a Large Distribution Center
Outside view of a large distribution center
A distribution center is a building or multiple buildings, that are primarily used as storage. For goods,
that retailers sell in their shops or online platforms. They store these goods until they are ordered to be
distributed, whether to business s or directly to customers. The main purpose for a distribution center
is to hold stock, until it is needed. These centers can often be shared by several small business s to
reduce overheads or are owned outright by larger companies, who rely on having large amounts of
stock, but do not have a large amount of shop space. They are also heavily relied on by online
companies, who use a digital shop platform.
Traditionally large retail chains such as Amazon own their own distribution centers. This minimizes
their overheads, by cutting out the middle man. You will tend to find that large retail chains have more
than one distribution center. They tend to place them strategically throughout the countries that they
ship to. Small independent retailers however cannot afford the overhead costs of owning their own
distribution centers. This means they have to go to third party centers which charge them a much
smaller overhead in comparison. This is because these third party services tend to serve more than one
small retailer. Meaning that the overhead costs are split between multiple business s rather than just
one.
There are three main area s within a distribution center, which are, the shipping

The Effects Of Father Involvement
Fathers should spend time with their children because it can help them perform better in school, it can
help with their development, and help them flourish in life. The dad effect starts as early as birth. A
review of studies by Father Involvement Research Alliance shows that babies with more involved are
more likely to be emotionally secure, confident in new situations, and eager to explore their
surroundings. According to Sarah Allen, PhD and Kerry Daly, PhD in May 2007 the main idea about
this subject is The Effects of Father Involvement . Infants with fathers that are highly involved in their
lives are better problem solvers as toddlers and have a higher IQs by age three. School aged children
of involved fathers are also better academic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ellis, Yasmine S. Khan, Victor W. Harris, Ricki McWilliams, and Diana Converse states that fathers
have a huge impact on children s well being. They start off stating that American families have
changed dramatically over the last century. Currently, about one half of all children in the United
States will live apart from their fathers some time during their childhood because their parents have
separated (Smith, n.d.). Of all children born in the year 2000 to married parents, 50 percent will
experience the divorce of their parents before they reach their 18th birthday (Fagan, 2000). In
addition, the proportion of births to unmarried women has increased greatly in recent decades, rising
from 5 percent in 1960 to 41 percent in 2011 (Child Trend Data Bank, 2013). Fathers are different
from mothers in how they play with their children, mothers more likely nurture their children in
contrast because fathers spend more time engaging in stimulating playful activities and promoting and
advising independence. When you have fathers that spend time with you at a young age will most
likely develop greater abilities to start school with higher levels of academic readiness according to
Allen and Daly in 2007 and throughout development, high levels of father involvement have also been
associated with greater child tendencies to be more patient and have increased aptitudes for handling
the ongoing stresses associated with schooling and

Traditional Family Guy Stereotypes
A traditional family is a family where the Dad and Mum both work and the kids stay at home and they
all live under the same roof. It is a social construct that varies from culture to culture and, over time,
the definition changes within a culture.
Family guy is a popular television show that is often viewed as one of the funnier shows the television
has to offer. Whilst there are issues that are relatable to most families in today s society. I don t believe
that the family reflects the real world. The show is politically incorrect as Writers use stereotypes to

His role in the family is to work, protect and provide. However, he is immature, obese, car free, risk
taking, out spoken, dim witted and an alcoholic. This is why the audience laugh, because of the way
he projects himself and how immature he is around his family. Unfortunately, being obese can lead to
an early death and for the show to make it so irrelevant is concerning. Alcoholism is also a devastating
disease and ruins families and should not be taken lightly when this cartoon has such a young
audience.
Lois is Peter s wife and the mother of Chris, Meg, and Stewie. She is a housewife who cares for her
kids and her husband. Lois thinks that the past she had, has made her a better person. This character is
probably the closest to reality with the way she cares for her kids and families.
Meg is the Griffins 18 year old eldest child and only daughter. She is a self conscious, unattractive
teenage girl with severely low self esteem being portrayed as generally soft and non rebellious. The
other family members treat her as an object of abuse and belittle her by saying she must be adopted.
Megs character probably hits close to home for many teenage girls. Whilst having her family members

What Is Ha s Experience In Inside Out And Back Again
Ha s life as a refugee In the novel, Inside out and back again, written by Thanhha Lai is about a 10
year old girl named Ha faces many challenges throughout the war because they were forced to leave
their home. When they, the refugees flee, they are going for safety, avoiding the war, and they go
through so much fear. When refugees find a new home, they face, new people and they try to fit in the
new community or a new culture that they are around now. Refugees feel sad when they are turned
inside out because they had to flee home and they finally feel really happy when they are back again
because they finally found a new home. Ha s life is related to the common refugee experience because
she faced everything that a refugee would go through. Ha s experience is a specific example of the
universal experience because she went through a lot like any other refugee would during a war. When
the refugees flee home, refugees are going for safety, avoiding the war, and they go through so much
fear. When Ha fled her home, she had to walk with her family to go the ship when they were all
sweaty and nasty. When they were going to the ship, they were all sweaty and sour. Based on the

Analyzing Erikson s Eight Stages Of Development
1. Tell me about the developmental crisis of each of the eight stages. Psychologist Erik Erikson
developed his eight stages of development to clarify the developmental challenges faced at various
times in people s lives. Stage based theories of development were extremely popular during Erikson s
era. However, Erikson s theory differs from other popular theories in that a person does not have to
successfully complete one stage of development to move on to the next stage of development. Erikson
s stages of development are widely taught in psychology courses in the United States. Each stage is
presented as two opposing statements representing the challenges a person faces at a particular age. If

Adolescence: Fidelity Identity vs. Role Confusion The famed term identity crisis comes from this
period of development. Erikson argued that adolescents undergo an identity crisis during which they
must establish an identity, goals, and a purpose. Adolescents who struggle to find a purpose to their
lives and a separate identity from their parents and other caregivers may be unable to establish a
coherent, consistent identity. Young Adulthood: Love Intimacy vs. Isolation This is the period of
development during which many people get married or enter into significant relationships and has
been defined as anywhere from 20 24 years to 20 40 years. After a young person has established his or
her identity, he/she becomes equipped to establish intimate relationships with others. Failure to do so
can result in long term feelings of isolation. Middle Adulthood: Care Generativity vs. Stagnation This
is the period of development during which most people have children. People who are able to provide
guidance or a legacy to the next generation feel a sense of purpose, while people who do not do so
may feel stuck. Late Adulthood: Ego Integrity vs. Despair During this phase, older adults reflect back
on the life they have lived. Those who feel fulfilled by their lives are able to face death and aging
proudly, while those who feel disappointment may fall

Music Therapy And Its Effectiveness
Musical therapy is a precise, evidence based use of music to help accomplish certain goals or

Managing Work Family Practices At The Workplace
3.0 Managing work family practices at the workplace
3.1 Introduction
The generalizability of published studies related to harmonising the work and family domains are
uncertain. The topic have been carried out in several studies investigating on aspects such as
influencing the impact of practices in particular frameworks (Wood Stephen, 2007; Beham et al.,
2012; Stock et al., 2013). As earlier scholar in this work and family interaction, Rapoport and
Rapoport (1965) reported that the effectiveness of the interaction between work and family domain
involves a certain amount of conflict. This is because of a serious changing point in work and family
role systems. Thus, in this study, we will disclose the important factors associated with the balancing
role between work and family at the workplace. Some of these factors include personal variables,
individual personalities, line manager attitudes, macro socioeconomic and cultural values (Dávila de
León Finkelstein, 2011; McCarthy et al., 2010; Poelmans et al., 2003). They are most common
influences on work and family practices or programmes and have been identified based on the
challenges faced by the employees at the workplace.
This chapter introduces the managing WFBPs phenomenon with the managerial role and their
practicing action. It begins with the understanding of the establishment of the WFBPs at the
workplace in the first section of this chapter. There are heavily discussions on this interest topic

Comparing The Outrigger System And Braced Frame System
2.2 Braced Frame and Shear Walled Frame System
Rigid frame systems are not efficient for buildings taller than 30 stories, because lateral defection due
to the bending of columns causes the drift to be too large. On the other hand, steel bracing or shear
walls with or without rigid frame (brace systems and shear wall systems), increases the total rigidity of
the building and the resulting system is named as braced frame or shear walled frame system. These
systems are stiffer when compared to the rigid frame system, and can be used for buildings over 30
stories, but mostly applicable for buildings about 50 stories in height. However, there are examples for
these systems reaching over 100 storey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an innovative and efficient structural system, the outrigger system comprises a central core,
including either braced frames or shear walls, with horizontal outrigger trusses or girders connecting
the core to the external columns. Furthermore, in most cases, the external columns are interconnected
by exterior belt girder. If the building is subjected to the horizontal loading, the rotation of the core is
prevented by the column restrained outriggers. The outriggers and belt girder should be at least one
and often two stories deep to realize adequate stiffness. Thus, they are generally positioned at plant
levels to reduce the obstruction they create.
Depending upon the number of levels of outriggers and their stiffness, the perimeter columns of an
outrigger structure perform a composite behavior with the core. When compared to single storey
outrigger structures, multi storey outriggers have better lateral resistance, and thus efficiency in the
structural behavior. However, each extra outrigger storey enhances the lateral stiffness, but by a
smaller amount than the previous

Persuasive Essay On Keeping The Driving Age
Learning to drive is one of the most exciting times in a young person s life. For most, this begins
around the age of fifteen. Also at this time, many teens are beginning high school and becoming
accustomed to more responsibilities. The driving age has been sixteen years old for many years. Many
learn how to safely drive during this time before going off to college where they no longer have
parental supervision. Raising the driving age would only make college car crashes more likely than if
they learned when they were younger. The driving age should remain the same because it allows teens
to fulfill responsibilities, learn safe driving more easily, and reduce the risk of car crashes among
college students.
First, the current driving age allows busy teens to keep up with their full schedules and fulfill
responsibilities. Many parents do not have the time to keep up with their own schedules as well as
their children s. For this reason, having a license allows teens to be more independent, allowing them
to learn responsibility for themselves. As teens learn to drive, they learn valuable life skills. They learn
safety, awareness, and maturity. These are all very important life skills that one should have before
they reach adulthood. If the driving age was raised, many would not ... Show more content on

Persuasive Speech For Binge Drinking
Introduction: In the United States more than 1,800 college students have lost their lives from alcohol
related causes. These numbers have seen a steady increase since the year of 1998. Drinking while at
college has become a part of the college culture. Student see this as a part of the higher education
experience. A lot of college alcohol problems are linked to binge drinking. Binge drinking cause a
huge concerns and poses serious health and safety risks which often includes sexual assault, drunk
driving arrests, car crashes and injuries. Researchers are finding ways to improve college student s
alcohol consumptions issues. A way, I feel can help solve this problem is by having students download
IntelliDrink application on their phones. IntelliDrink helps people monitor blood alcohol
concentration levels and also tell you what time blood levels goes down so that they person may be
able to drive. We are all college students who may encounter people who have been really drunk. After
doing extensive research, I want to prove why InteliDrink is a good resolution.
Thesis: IntelliDrink is the great solution to college student s alcohol consumptions problems because it
will provide college student with accurate blood alcohol content that will make them aware of how
much they have been drinking and prevent them from drinking and driving and other safety risk.

Essay on Graham Greene s The Power and the Glory
Graham Greene s The Power and the Glory
In Graham Greene s The Power and the Glory, setting is essential in understanding the spiritual
conquest of the main character. The story takes place in post revolution Mexico of the nineteen
thirties, where Catholicism has been banned. The government has shut down all of the churches and
established anti Catholic laws, jealous of the rising power of the church, and nervous of the corrupt
ways in which the church has been dealing with sin. The main character, a nameless whiskey priest,

Everybody the priest encounters will not harbour him because of fear of the law. These barren lands
symbolize the priest s feeling of worthlesness and rejection from God, and the feeling of inevitable sin
and the impossibility of martyrdom. I don t know how to repent. That was true: he had lost the faculty.
He couldn t say to himself that he wished his sin had never existed, because the sin seemed to him
now so unimportant and he loved the fruit of it... our sins have so much beauty. (p. 128,130) The priest
continues to create damage as several innocent members of passing communities are executed by the
police for not being able to provide adequate information on the priest s course of action. The priest s
developing knowledge of the damage he is creating adds guilt to his anxiety, and he continues to
question God about the meaning behind his situation.
It infuriated him to think that there were still people in the state

Examples Of The Outsiders In The Outsiders
The Outsiders Essay It s hard to be a hero when you do some bad things to get there. In the novel The
Outsiders by S.E. Hinton there are two completely different sides of town. The Socs are the rich kids
who drive expensive cars and wear expensive clothes and the Greasers are considered the bums. They
don t have money and they don t get whatever they want, they also have to work extra hard to get to
where they want to be. If you are considered a greaser you are a muffin and the Socs are the cupcakes.
Everybody would prefer a cupcake over a muffin, but in this story two boys were just trying to protect
themselves and they get into some trouble while doing it so, they hit the road. I am going to tell you
about whether or not Ponyboy and Johnny are heroes. In my opinion Ponyboy and Johnny are heroes
and that is because they both ran into a burning building to save little kids from catching on fire and
dying. People don t just sprint into burning buildings for enjoyment everyday unless it s your job and
even then they don t do it for fun. They do it because they wanted to help save lives. Ponyboy going
first showed that he didn t want to wait for the fireman to come because it was now or never. I ll get
them, don t worry! I started at a dead run for the church, and the man caught my arm. I ll get them.
You kids stay out! I jerked loose and ran on. All I could think was: We started it. We started it. We
started it! ( Hinton pg. 91). Ponyboy felt bad because he knew that the cigarette him and Johnny had
smoked started it. He risked his life to save those children, Johnny too. Johnny went in after Ponyboy.
I looked around, startled. I hadn t realized Johnny had been right behind me all the way. (Hinton pg.
91/92). When Ponyboy was getting his head shoved in a fountain and held there by a Soc, Johnny had
jumped in to save him. Johnny may have killed the Soc, but he did it to protect himself and Ponyboy,
but Johnny is a greaser so he looks guilty to the police either way. I killed him, he said slowly. I killed
that boy. (Hinton pg. 56). I don t know if you would call this heroic, but I think it is. The greasers

Compare And Contrast Tell Tale Heart And The Cask Of...
Vengeful = Villain Revenge has existed for a long time. A vengeful character is often portrayed as the
villain which therefore makes a revenge seem evil, but many authors tend to use revenge in books as a
way to surprise the reader. Two short stories that feature the theme of revenge are , The Cask Of
Amontillado (CA) by Edgar Allen Poe and Sredni Vashtar (SV) by H.H Munro (Saki). In CA the
character s revenge was motivated by Fortunato using acts of derision on the main character in the

Mrs. De Ropp would never, in her honestest moments, have confessed to herself that she disliked

she did not find particularly irksome. (1) In this statement, we find out that Ms. De Ropp finds it

Legal Funding Disadvantages
Nowadays, hiring a lawyer in UK and Wales can be quite expensive. A trainee solicitor in Great
Britain hourly rate can start from a hundred and eleven pounds per hour and ranges from this to a first
grade solicitor in London who would charge four hundred and nine pounds per hour . It is obvious that
not everyone can afford the price of justice. Legal funding is vital as this can give a chance to people
that are of lesser means, to review their case. There are various types of legal funding that I will
examine in my essay for example, legal aid, private funding, conditional fee agreements, damages
based agreements and pro bono. However, there are some ethical complications related to how these
types of funding is used. Are they really used wisely and fairly based on their scope? I am going to
consider the advantages and disadvantages of the various types, in order to come to a conclusion. On
the other hand, there are many people claiming that technological innovations would be a very good
way to compensate for lack of funding. Technological innovations such as, robot lawyer Lisa , Lexis
Nexis chatbot and kiosks. Forms of legal funding

Abstract
The current environment, for Riordan s departments, is requiring increased labor in order to process
information. The slow consolidation of the operational processes of two divisions with different
operation software has become a financial threat to Riordan Manufacturing. Each of the divisions
lacks modern technology that is needed to run a highly efficient corporation. Therefore, there is not
enough information being shared between customers, sales, finance, manufacturing, and management.

This is because of their global manufacturing facilities and the duplicity of the manual data entry
processes. When the raw material is received, at the loading dock, the material is manually compared
to shipping documents that a supervisor has against a schedule of incoming orders. Once comparisons
have been finished, the receiving team will unload the trucks and move the raw material into the
material holding area located on the factory floor. At the end of each day, the supervisor gives the
receiving logs raw materials unloaded and the associated truckers shipping documents to an inventory
clerk. The inventory clerk takes all of the related information from the raw materials receipts and
enters them into the inventory system. The data includes the type of material received, the vendor the
material was purchased from, and the quantity of material. The raw material located on the factory
floor is used during the various manufacturing operations. The amount of raw material that gets used
during the day is manually written on the raw material usage form given to the inventory clerk. The
inventory clerk receives the form and enters the raw material usage into the inventory system. At the
end of the each day, the manufacturing team will submit a form to the inventory clerk listing the
number of sub assembles, and ending products finished for that day. The sales department finalizes the
requested orders. The sales

Children Are At Home Learning Languages Essay
In different regions around the world, young children are at home learning languages that differ from
the prevailing language used in their extensive social world. When they arrive at school, these children
has a different precious resource; there mother tongue often referred to as L1. Typically, when
indigenous and minority language speaking students begin school, they are forced to learn a language
of the majority group in order to fit in socially and succeed in their academics. In a majority of
schools, these children are thought exclusively in the second language, which is most often English.
Although the L1 language is exceedingly common, a majority of school curriculums and programs
completely disregard and fail to support the minority language. Moreover, a majority of language
policies that inform these programs places no value on the knowledge and cultural backgrounds
associated with the linguistic diversity of the dialect children. Research as shown that persistent low
academic achievement and early school dropouts are common among these minority children and
partly stem from this dialect insensitive education policies. There is need to recognize that children
from diverse cultural backgrounds speak in different dialects and, therefore, there is a necessity to
enhance learning for such children while adhering and respecting their cultural diversity (Ball, 2010).
This research work thus tries to raise awareness on the need to maintain and promote cultural and

Allan Kardec s The Gospel According To Spiritism
What is Our Plan?
Discovering Spiritism leads one to the feeling that you are on a roller coaster and are unable to get off.
The more you read, the more questions you have, then you try and find where they could be answered,
but at the end you have a larger set of questions than when you started. The numerous questions could
be separated into major categories. One of the most significant set of inquiries concerns the matter of
your personal destiny. The discussion of the plan for your life on earth is scattered throughout Kardec
s books and in psychographed books by mediums, such as Francisco C. Xavier. This article pulls
together different sources to present to you an introduction of the basic principles and concepts that
have dictated your life s plan.
In Allan Kardec s The Gospel According to Spiritism, the starting point for understanding your trials is
in this paragraph, Christ said, Blessed are the afflicted, for they shall be comforted . But how can we
bless suffering if we don t know why we suffer? Spiritism shows that the cause lies in previous
existences and in the destiny of earth, where humans expiate their past. It shows them the purpose of
their suffering as being salutary which lead to healing and which are the purification that ensures
happiness in future existences. Humans understand that they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Comparison Of Walmart, Costco, And Amazon
Today s consumer has multiple options to fill their shopping needs. They have the option to shop at
online retailers, big box and mass merchant stores, department stores, smaller chain stores, individual
kiosk, and other local or international convenient stores to fill their shopping needs. Regardless of the
retailer that a consumer chooses, all retailers aim to satisfy their shoppers needs and strive to be the
best in the business. In order to adequately and successfully do this, retailers must develop a firm
mission, vision, and have core values for how they will operate as a retailer to meet the frequently
changing demands of its consumer base. In addition, they must incorporate a strategic plan that not
only maintains the intent of their organizational mission, vision, and values, but also serves as a
method to outsmart competitors in order to maintain their customer base. This paper will compare and

The Pros And Cons Of A Cheerleading A Sport
Most people don t consider cheerleading a sport. People say it doesn t meet the guidelines in order to
be a sport. But there isn t really any specific guidelines for a sport to be considered a sport. So no one
can really say anything about it not being a sport. By looking at the history of cheerleading and the
guidelines in order to be a sport I intend to prove that cheerleading is a sport. In order for a sport to be
a sport it has to follow certain guidelines. So let s see what these guidelines are. The first one is it must
be a physical activity which involves propelling a mass through space or overcoming the resistance of
mass. Secondly contesting or competing against/with an opponent is required. Third of all it must be
governed by rules that explicitly define the time, space, and purpose of the contest and the conditions
under which a winner is declared. After reading what s required to be considered a sport let s see if
cheerleading meets those requirements. There s stunting which meets the first guideline. Cheerleading
has competitions there s the second guideline. It has time limit, mat size, and score sheets that meets
the last guideline. So far it looks like cheerleading is a sport, but let s look at more evidence shall we?

A Clean And Organised House
A clean and organised house not only improves its looks, but also speaks highly of your housekeeping
habit. It is important for the health and hygiene of the inhabitants of the house. We all know that, yet
we cannot also deny that the task itself does not feel too appealing and regular spring cleaning
schedule leaves us all exhausted.
House cleaning regimen
Almost all of us try to follow a house cleaning schedule that suits us. However, there cannot be an
ideal cleaning schedule, what suits you may not suit your friend. So it is important to device a routine
that feels comfortable and manageable to you. Our hectic lifestyle makes it difficult to spring cleanse
the interiors regularly.
However, you can take small steps everyday to clean one area of your house that requires immediate
attention. Alternatively, you can generally try to keep things as organised as possible and dust off a
part of your room every day before undertaking any deep cleaning activities during the weekends.
A clean house is the most basic requirement of a fashionable home. According to the traditional
wisdom of feng shui, positive energy circulates well in a decluttered home. Proper cleansing extends
the life of your valuable belongings. Books, clothes and accessories remain bug free. You and your
family can enjoy inhaling in a cleaner interior environment with fewer concerns for allergic reactions.

Essay about The Continuation Of Patriarchy In Our Culture
Our culture has created a social system that allows the driving forces of patriarchy to flourish.
Although many people may not be purposefully attempting to continue this system of patriarchy, we
each play a role in its survival. For many the problem is not that they are promoting patriarchy but that
they are not challenging the system. In Johnson s article Patriarchy , he is not examining whether a
patriarchal system exists in our culture but what factors are driving this system to continue. The
articles analyzed demonstrate Johnson s theory of patriarchy by exemplifying his three facets of the
patriarchal system and by recognizing the notion of the path of least resistance. Johnson argues that
patriarchy is made up of more than just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This connection with other men is important, and there is a risk of losing masculinity if a man should
choose not to participate in homosocial behavior. Even Schwyzer, a pro feminist thinker, has found
himself going along with the banter of his peers out of fear of exclusion. When relationships begin to
be formed around ideas that drive patriarchy it becomes very hard to overturn these notions. Although
not all male friendships are formed out of objectifying women, homosociality allows connections to
be made very quickly among men. This article also shows the fears of taking the path of resistance .
Men as well as women are apprehensive to go against the group. Deciding not to join in on the
homosocial behavior could result in exclusion or ridicule, and often standing your ground is not worth
that risk. The connections that are formed around this behavior are one of the many reasons patriarchy
continues in our culture. Many men are afraid to go against other men in fear of seeming feminine.
This pressure for men to appear masculine is one of the many parts that form the system of patriarchy.
Hegemonic masculinity reveals the male dominance of patriarchy. This term refers to what is
considered normal male behavior in our culture. Hegemonic masculinity is characterized by male
domination and female subordination. In Michael Messner s article Becoming 100 Percent Straight ,
he discusses male s drive to overcompensate their masculinity out of

One may ask how is it that two stories that are written by different authors from different cultures at
different times can similarly resemble each other s features? The Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket

childhood. Although both short stories include similarities in their themes of innocence and use of

Alike Walker, Kawabata uses symbolism in order to express his attitudes toward the transition
between innocence and maturation. In Kawabata s story, the child named Fujio conveys Kawabata s
attitude of innocence at first when he is chasing after crickets, but as the plot further develops Fujio s
intent transitions from capturing insects to capturing a girl s, Kiyoko s, attention. Shortly after
capturing an insect, as Fujio was handing the bug to Kiyoko, Kawabata writes, The boy s lantern
which he held up alongside the girl s insect cage, inscribed his name, cut out in the green papered
aperture onto her white cotton kimono. (1). The light reflecting across Kiyoko s chest is a symbolic
representation of the girl s affection towards the Fujio. Fujio s character changes from a playful child
that chases insects to a romantic individual that chases females in order to symbolize the end of
innocence. Despite both Kawabata and Walker including similar themes about childhood, their stories
settings and perspectives are significantly different from each other. While in Kawabata s story the
setting includes multiple joyous children alongside a modern Japanese university, in Walker s story the
setting specified includes a lone black child who is exploring a nature in a rural environment

Argumentative Essay On Vladimir Putin
In recent times, no one can take total power by force alone; you must offer something favorable to the
people in order to obtain support. Unfortunately, there are some countries that follow a dictatorship
system, which is a form of government that includes social and political power to ensure that the
individual s capability remains strong. Vladimir Putin is a contemporary dictator of Russia. His
rebelliousness as a child has led him to his leadership. His cold heartedness to his rivals and invasion
towards countries has led to an opposition towards him. Vladimir Putin s experience as a street thug
led him to his leadership, which easily rose him to power: Not only has he committed crimes against
humanity, but he has made groups of people and countries oppose him.
First of all, Putin had a very unique background. Masha Gessen, Russian and American journalist,

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Atomic Era By William Faulkner
The Atomic Era, spanning from 1945 through the 1960s, was a source of immense concern and fear
that faced both Americans and the entire world. During this tumultuous time in history, past
abominations such as the Depression and two deadly World Wars haunted Americans, while the Cold
War loomed as an imminent threat. Due to such prolonged suffering, the human spirit holding people
together the world over had fallen apart at the seams. Upon receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature in
1950, William Faulkner delivered an acceptance speech in which he applies balanced sentences,
meaningful repetition, and potent hyperbole in order to call aspiring writers to abandon their fears and
encourage them to create work that will aid the world in midst of the current, volatile Atomic Age.
William Faulkner incorporates balanced sentence structure throughout his speech to draw connections
between the writer and their role within humanity. Faulkner begins his speech by addressing all
aspiring writers and linking himself to them. He states that these writers are already dedicated to the
same anguish and travail, among whom is already that one who will someday stand here where I am
standing. Faulkner immediately establishes a hopeful tone regarding the future of writers, writers who,
like Faulkner, understand that good writing requires the hard work of self sacrifice. Later on, when
discussing the work of authors who disregard the universal truths of writing, Faulkner once again
employs a balanced sentence. He claims such works are of defeats in which nobody loses anything of
value, of victories without hope and, worst of all, without pity or compassion . Defeat and victory
juxtaposed blurs the lines between the two and emphasizes the lack of meaning found within the
works of authors unwilling to share the problems of the human heart. The parallelism of victories
without hope, pity, and compassion marks any author s work lacking these essential elements as
destitute. Faulkner closes his speech with a final balanced statement, The poet s voice need not merely
be the record of man, it can be one of the props, the pillars to help him endure and prevail. Faulkner
expounds his central message that our writings must be the

Pros And Cons Of Being An American

witness what 9/11 was all about and how it all came apart from there. It s harder now to see how we
are still standing and how we overcome all these problems that are out there. We are still recovering
from all that was broken all around us.
It s harder nowadays to achieve the American dream because of the cost of our education and health
care. People nowadays don t have enough money to pay for health care or child care. Now we are still

other things around us.
Being Americans, we, get choices rather than having to be told how to live. We get to choose our

made by the Jewish God, Yahweh, to Abraham. Abraham s descendant was Jacob called Israel. From
Abraham came the beginning of the Jewish religion and from Israel came the nation through which
the covenant was to continue. However the people did not always stay faithful to God and it is due to a
number of significant people that the religion was able to continue to today. Isaiah s impact on
Judaism can still be seen in modern Judaistic society and religion.
Isaiah was born at a time of historical importance during an era of political turmoil. Around the year
740 BCE Isaiah was born. During his life he experienced the destruction of Israel circa 722 BCE,
when Assyrians defeated the Northern Kingdom of Israel and absorbed her ... Show more content on

It is one of the core beliefs of Judaism that the promised anointed one, the Mashiach, will indeed
come. Isaiah speaks of the restoration and redemption of Jerusalem under the Messianic King. These
prophesies, reinforced elsewhere in the Tanakh (sacred text), describe the Mashiach and ultimately
give the people hope for the future of the world. The Mashiach will be fully observant of the
commandments, bring about the political and spiritual redemption of the Jewish people through the
restoration of Jerusalem and the exiled and establish a world authority in Israel for Jews and gentiles.
The return of the exiled has been a long awaited prophecy for the Jews during Isaiah s time and ours
with the holocaust having displaced masses of Jews. The Messianic age, called the Olam Ha Ba, will
be characterised by the peaceful co existence of all people... [recognising] the Jewish G d as the only
true G d, and the Jewish religion as the only true religion . Isaiah s prophesies about the future of
Judah and the coming of the Mashiach bring hope and purpose to the

Pod Method In Pp Method
The simulations of reservoir are very important and have a wide range of applications, from ground
water production to radioactive waster and the extraction of oil and gas from the subsurface. 3D
reservoir modelling provides more details for multiphase flows in porous media. However, the
computational cost of 3D reservoir simulations is intensive. The non intrusive reduced order
modelling technique presented here is capable of resolving 3D reservoir modelling problems while
avoiding the high computational cost. The reduced order modelling technique has been shown to
possess a powerful capability of representing the large dynamical systems using only a few number of
reduced order basis functions. Among the model reduction methods, the POD ... Show more content

Another issue that arises in the ROMs is the efficient treatment of non linear terms in the partial
differential equations (PDEs). A number of efficient non linear treatment methods have been
presented, for example, Gappy POD cite{willcox2006unsteady}, the empirical interpolation method
(EIM)cite{Barrault2004} and its discrete version discrete empirical interpolation method (DEIM)
cite{Chaturantabut2010}, residual DEIM cite{Dxiao2014}, Petrov$ $Galerkin projection method
cite{Carlberg2011}, Gauss$ $Newton with approximated tensors (GNAT) method
cite{carlberg2013gnat} and the quadratic expansion method cite{du2013pod,fang2009reduced}.
However, these methods are still dependent on the source code of the original physical system. In
most cases the source code describing the full physical system has to be modified in order to form the
reduced order model. To circumvent these disadvantages, more recently, non intrusive methods have
been introduced into model reduction, which do not require the knowledge of the governing equations
and the original source code cite{han2012}. Chen {it et al.} proposed a non intrusive model
reduction method based on black box stencil interpolation method and machine learning method

George Mccready Price ( Or George Edward Price
George McCready Price (or George Edward Price) was born in 1870 and died in 1963. Price had a
reputation as being an influence on creationism among people he met (Numbers, p. 89). His father
died when George was very young and his mother joined an SDA church on the aftermath of the
Millerite movement and during this period was when Ellen G White began having her visions and
Seventh day Adventism was becoming known as Bible people (Numbers, p.89 90). Ellen G White
support creationism by endorsing that Noah s flood did happen and that it change the world s surface
and buried fossils which helped formed mountains, hills and trees (Numbers, p. 90). Price, married an
Adventist lady who was twelve years older than him, he had a job selling books, but then decided to
go to Battle Creek College to get an education in teaching, but he ran out of funds which force him to
work as a bookseller again but in 1897, he got a job working as a teacher at Tracadie (Numbers p. 91).
This was my first time learning about George Price, I was shocked to read that he married someone
twelve years older than him. Price was a strong believer and supporter of Creationism but he made
friends with people who were not like Dr. Alfred Smith, who got him to research evolution (Numbers,
p. 91). As a result of his many years of research, Price published a 271 page book on the cons of
evolution and the development of Darwinism (Numbers p. 92 93). Price even worked as a pastor on
Prince Edward Island but got

most famously known for his ability to turn anything he wished into gold by simply touching it. He
was not born with power but received it from God Dionysus as a gratitude gift. God Dionysus roamed

Benefits Of Single-Sex Education
Margaret Kierath
ENGL 1101
3 December 2017
Are there benefits to students experiencing single sex education? In education there are two types of
educational settings, single sex and co ed. The former is where only one gender is taught in either a
school or a classroom and co ed is where both sex intertwine an learn in a classroom or school
together. Single sex education helps the girls or boys learn at their own paste. Some benefits to single
sex educational settings to consider are style of learning, higher education, interest s and how more
independent students from singe sex schools are.
Single sex education has been around for decades; however, within a coeducational setting it started
rapidly growing in 2006. According to Spielhagen and Kohl, in 2006 NASSPE recorded dingle sex
schools in eighteen states. Within five years the number of single sex schooling has become larger. In
order to be able to have single sex education in classrooms there are three regulations. The first
regulation was to make participation voluntary , second was to show that the single sex classes meet
important government objectives , and third provide a comparable co educational classes in a
geographically accessible location . In order for there to be single gender classes the school had to also
give the option of co ed classes as well. Single sex classrooms were put in place because girls and
boys tend to learn differently and take in the information differently then each other.

A Quantitative research in this article is showing the study of fast and normal intravenous rehydration
in paediatric gastroenteritis which agrees with the text. The aim of the article is to discover whether
fast or rapid intravenous rehydration outcome improves in hydration with medical conclusions when
been given to children with gastroenteritis. The article has its aim as stated including hypothesis,
research approach and sample including instruments with findings.
Structuring the study
The motivation of the study has been demonstrated through the literature review. In 2011, the study
was introduced at Paediatric Academic Society Annual Meeting, which concludes 30th April to 3rd of

The hypothesis stated in this literature is null hypothesis which is based on clinical evidence. The
hypothesis indicates that the researchers were interested in testing for differences in groups.
The Sample
It was estimated that registering 226 children would have provided 80% of power to discover a 20
percentage of point difference in the number of children rehydrated for two hours. After the start of
treatment, there was two sided given type I error with a possibility of 0.05 and a 40% success rate
within standard group. As a result, the calculation involved a 5% alteration for losses to pursue
including withdrawals, and missing data.
Data Collection
The data was developed by SBF with supervised study as well as the manuscript was conscripted and
underwritten. SBF, PCP, SS were responsible for study concept and design. SBF, ARW, and Derek
Stephens were responsible for statistical analysis. SBF and SS provided administrative, technical, or
material support. All authors obtained funding, analysed and interpreted data, critically revised the
manuscript for important intellectual content, and had full access to all the data in the study and can
take responsibility for the integrity of the data and the accuracy of the data analysis.
Prior to clinical trial, all appropriate children were administered oral rehydration treatment. Initially
caregivers were directed to administer 5 mL of a

Police Brutality And The Riot
During 1992 in South Central Los Angeles, a riot started after the news of four white Los Angeles
police officers beating Rodney King was published on TV. It became daily news. The riot caused
many crimes to occur; participants of the riot burned down business stores, destroyed properties, and
some activities involved guns that have led to many deaths. Many South Central residents were
unsatisfied with police brutality and the way their community were being treated. Although the riot
only lasted for about a week, about 52 people were killed (Kivisto and Rundblad 82). The whole
neighborhood were ruined and destroyed. Ever since that riot, there were over 1 million property loss
(Kivisto and Rundblad 82), and over 700 businesses were burned down (Bergesen and Herman para.
1). Many people lost their jobs because their workplace were destroyed.
There were many different reasons that may have caused the 1992 riot in Los Angeles to occur.
However, not all of them were the main reasons of the riot. There were many side causes, for instance,
after the video of Rodney King being beaten was shown on television, residents of South Central Los
Angeles started to act up. They were affected by how King was being mistreated and how police
brutality played a big role in the video and their society. King s incident was very similar to many
other cases. For example, Anna Deavere Smith mentioned a case about Michael Zinzun from her book
Twilight Los Angeles 1992, Zinzun witnessed a police

Wonder Women Wonder Woman
THE SILVER AGE WONDER WOMAN In Issue #8 of DC s All Star Comics (cover date: Jan. 42)
there s an eight page story in tended to test readers reaction to a new type of hero. Written by Charles
Moulton (pseudonym of Psychologist William Moulton Marston), with art by Harry G. Peters, Wonder
Woman, Amazon Princess, enters a troubled world. Positive feedback encouraged DC to give her the
lead feature in a new anthology series Sensation Comics. An ardent believer in feminism, and a great
admirer of Margaret Sangster, founder of Planned Parenthood, Marston imbued his creation with
qualities normally found in male heroes. Wonder Woman (nee Diana) is the daughter of Queen
Hippolyta, who sculpted her from clay. The statue was given life by Aphrodite and powers (wisdom,
strength, speed, etc.) by the other Greek Goddesses. As Marston wrote, Wonder Woman ... is
psychological propaganda for the new type of woman who should, I believe, rule the world . Wonder
Woman s Golden Age exploits begin with her winning a contest to determine who will leave the
idyllic Amazon homeland of Paradise Island to help fight the growing menace of World War. She
remained a feminist icon until Marston s death in 1947 (She didn t entirely escape the sexism rampant
during this period. When she joined The Justice Society of America in 1942 she was made their
secretary). Robert Kanigher became writer and editor, and Wonder Woman began losing

Living In Rural Kansas
Breanna Prater Rural Voices of America Essay
15 November, 2016
Home Is Where The Heart Is
I will forever remember my fourth grade choir class. We went to the Kansas State Capitol and sang
Home on the Range for the Senators, Represenatatives, and anyone who happened to be passing by.
These infamous words of Brewster Higley stick out in my mind when I read our writing prompt; what
are the benefits of living in rural Kansas? What are the benefits of living on
See if you can use a synonym to seemingly increase your vocabulary our Home on the Range? A
beautiful land where the deer and the antelope have played, where it seems that everyone is absurdly
optimistic, and the stars sing out at night the beauty of the world around us. Kansas is my home. ...

And it is because we are taught this common sense, that rural individuals of all ages are often some of
the best people to be around. Because they understand how things work, and that what goes around
comes around. This ties directly with the down to earth perspective that rural Kansas offers.
Just exactly what is a down to earth perspective? A layman definition of a down to earth perspective is
seeing the world as it really is. You do not need to embellish it, or pretend that the world is something
that it is not. With a down to earth perspective you see the world, and in it, you see truth. It is a second
instinct of most Kanasans to develope a down to earth perspective, because there is earth all around
us. Farmers work in and with the earth to reap a bountiful harvest. Because of this, they have a
realistic perspective on the world, and see how nature works firsthand. This ripples out to those
around them. Rural Kansas is a farming community, and life lessons that they reap along with their
harvest, stretch out to the rest of us. Life and our busy
Prater, 3 schedules really get put into perspective when stuck behind a combined in harvest season.
Yes, the farmer has a place to go. Yes, they know you are busy, they are to. But that is the pace

Case 19 And Putt In Prison
They have been on multiple counts (46) including money laundering, bank fraud, insider trading and
conspiracy. Jeffrey convicted 19 and put in prison over 24 years. Kenneth had been convicted of fraud
6 times and went to jail for 45 years. Jeffery also did shady business trades. This all could have been
prohibited if they would have paid more attention to where their ( business) money is going/where.
Then once caught they could be watched and put on probation, so then if they tried to do it again they
would get caught and put in jail a lot sooner. I believe that they did deserve the amount of years in jail,
but I do think they should have made Jeffrey s sentence longer since he did have a good size role in
this. Why do I believe this is a

  • 3. The Problems Of American Schools Essay Andrew R. Deras Dr. Jide Osikomaiya English 100 8 September 2016 The Most Compelling Problems In American Schools As we delve back into a new year for students and teachers alike returning to school to continue with the daily life of academics and learning, we all must be understanding of what exactly we are sending our peers and children back to. It should be no surprise to most of us that throughout the years we have seen countless upon countless examples from the news and through others, that our school system is flawed in some way, shape or form. It is no longer a coincidence that our students are only achieving 36th from the top in all total curriculum (Arnett). This is also evident to anyone who may happen to own a T.V. and has been a viewer to these numerous articles describing these horrible issues we have within schools firsthand (ABC News). Not only that, but schooling can also be further compromised by politics and law related issues (Ravitch). What my goal for the essay I am submitting to you is; to give my opinions on the current situation of public schooling in America, discuss the issues, and back my points I will be presenting, with concrete evidence I have uncovered in my research. I would like to make it clear that my stance on the current situation is that there is not only a singular problem with public education, but a number of issues that inhibit students to learn properly and function as productive members of society. An excellent place to start would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Patterns Of Biological Diversity Throughout Rivers And... The patterns of biological diversity in rivers and streams among taxa vary on a spatial and temporal scale (Ligeiro et al. 2010; McGarvey and Terra 2015). Variations in stream ecology can be contributed to water quality, habitat, and history of disturbance (Lingeiro et al. 2010). Creeks and streams feed into rivers and other larger bodies of water, which provide food, water, and other commercial and recreational services as well as a home to an array of plants and animals which rely on clean water. The health of these smaller bodies of water can act as indicators for the health of the larger watershed. Benthic macroinvertebrates have been used to assess the health of aquatic environments. Quality analysis involves looking at benthic species composition and organization within the stream (Resh and Unzicke 1975). Different macroinvertebrates have differing sensitivities to pollutant, with some being more susceptible to environmental toxins than others (Metcalfe 1989). Such methods group macroinvertebrates in regards to their tolerance to pollution. The EPT Index looks at Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, and Trichoptera (mayflies, stoneflies, and caddisflies, respectively) as indicators of aquatic community health. The idea behind the EPT Index is that healthier streams have a greater richness of species as many species of macroinvertebrates are intolerant of pollutions and thus will not be found in low quality bodies of water (Lenat 1988). Previous studies have found that EPT ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Mental Deterioration Of Alzheimer s Disease I want to tell you how much I miss my mother. Bits of her are still there. I miss her most when I m sitting across from her, (Crowley, Candy. October 21st, 2014). This quote refers specifically to Alzheimer s, which is defined as progressive mental deterioration that can occur in middle or old age, due to generalized degeneration of the brain. It is the most common cause of premature senility. However, Alzheimer s is merely only a form of many debilitating diseases under the umbrella of Dementia, defined as a chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease or injury and marked by memory disorders, personality changes, and impaired reasoning. Some examples of these disorders include: Vascular dementia, Frontotemporal dementia (Pick s disease), Creutzfeldt Jakob disease, and of course as was previously for mentioned, Alzheimer s disease. Each form of dementia will be discussed in depth including their symptoms, treatments, and their histories. Vascular dementia is a decline in thinking skills caused by conditions that block or reduce blood flow to the brain, depriving brain cells of vital oxygen and nutrients. Conditions that can block blood flow to the brain are generally transient ischemic attacks (TIA s) or strokes. When these occur, often major brain blood vessels are damaged and blocked causing effects on personality, ways of thinking and problem solving, and generally can coexist with changes linked with other types of dementia. ... • 7. Outside View of a Large Distribution Center Outside view of a large distribution center A distribution center is a building or multiple buildings, that are primarily used as storage. For goods, that retailers sell in their shops or online platforms. They store these goods until they are ordered to be distributed, whether to business s or directly to customers. The main purpose for a distribution center is to hold stock, until it is needed. These centers can often be shared by several small business s to reduce overheads or are owned outright by larger companies, who rely on having large amounts of stock, but do not have a large amount of shop space. They are also heavily relied on by online companies, who use a digital shop platform. Traditionally large retail chains such as Amazon own their own distribution centers. This minimizes their overheads, by cutting out the middle man. You will tend to find that large retail chains have more than one distribution center. They tend to place them strategically throughout the countries that they ship to. Small independent retailers however cannot afford the overhead costs of owning their own distribution centers. This means they have to go to third party centers which charge them a much smaller overhead in comparison. This is because these third party services tend to serve more than one small retailer. Meaning that the overhead costs are split between multiple business s rather than just one. There are three main area s within a distribution center, which are, the shipping ... They start off stating that American families have changed dramatically over the last century. Of all children born in the year 2000 to married parents, 50 percent will experience the divorce of their parents before they reach their 18th birthday (Fagan, 2000). In addition, the proportion of births to unmarried women has increased greatly in recent decades, rising from 5 percent in 1960 to 41 percent in 2011 (Child Trend Data Bank, 2013). Fathers are different from mothers in how they play with their children, mothers more likely nurture their children in contrast because fathers spend more time engaging in stimulating playful activities and promoting and advising independence. When you have fathers that spend time with you at a young age will most likely develop greater abilities to start school with higher levels of academic readiness according to Allen and Daly in 2007 and throughout development, high levels of father involvement have also been associated with greater child tendencies to be more patient and have increased aptitudes for handling the ongoing stresses associated with schooling and ... • 15. Managing Work Family Practices At The Workplace 3.0 Managing work family practices at the workplace 3.1 Introduction The generalizability of published studies related to harmonising the work and family domains are uncertain. The topic have been carried out in several studies investigating on aspects such as influencing the impact of practices in particular frameworks (Wood Stephen, 2007; Beham et al., 2012; Stock et al., 2013). As earlier scholar in this work and family interaction, Rapoport and Rapoport (1965) reported that the effectiveness of the interaction between work and family domain involves a certain amount of conflict. This is because of a serious changing point in work and family role systems. Thus, in this study, we will disclose the important factors associated with the balancing role between work and family at the workplace. Some of these factors include personal variables, individual personalities, line manager attitudes, macro socioeconomic and cultural values (Dávila de León Finkelstein, 2011; McCarthy et al., 2010; Poelmans et al., 2003). They are most common influences on work and family practices or programmes and have been identified based on the challenges faced by the employees at the workplace. This chapter introduces the managing WFBPs phenomenon with the managerial role and their practicing action. It begins with the understanding of the establishment of the WFBPs at the workplace in the first section of this chapter. There are heavily discussions on this interest topic especially in ... Comparing The Outrigger System And Braced Frame System 2.2 Braced Frame and Shear Walled Frame System Rigid frame systems are not efficient for buildings taller than 30 stories, because lateral defection due to the bending of columns causes the drift to be too large. On the other hand, steel bracing or shear walls with or without rigid frame (brace systems and shear wall systems), increases the total rigidity of the building and the resulting system is named as braced frame or shear walled frame system. These systems are stiffer when compared to the rigid frame system, and can be used for buildings over 30 stories, but mostly applicable for buildings about 50 stories in height. However, there are examples for these systems reaching over 100 storey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As an innovative and efficient structural system, the outrigger system comprises a central core, including either braced frames or shear walls, with horizontal outrigger trusses or girders connecting the core to the external columns. Furthermore, in most cases, the external columns are interconnected by exterior belt girder. If the building is subjected to the horizontal loading, the rotation of the core is prevented by the column restrained outriggers. The outriggers and belt girder should be at least one and often two stories deep to realize adequate stiffness. Thus, they are generally positioned at plant levels to reduce the obstruction they create. Depending upon the number of levels of outriggers and their stiffness, the perimeter columns of an outrigger structure perform a composite behavior with the core. When compared to single storey outrigger structures, multi storey outriggers have better lateral resistance, and thus efficiency in the structural behavior. Also at this time, many teens are beginning high school and becoming accustomed to more responsibilities. The driving age has been sixteen years old for many years. Many learn how to safely drive during this time before going off to college where they no longer have parental supervision. Raising the driving age would only make college car crashes more likely than if they learned when they were younger. The driving age should remain the same because it allows teens to fulfill responsibilities, learn safe driving more easily, and reduce the risk of car crashes among college students. First, the current driving age allows busy teens to keep up with their full schedules and fulfill responsibilities. Many parents do not have the time to keep up with their own schedules as well as their children s. For this reason, having a license allows teens to be more independent, allowing them to learn responsibility for themselves. As teens learn to drive, they learn valuable life skills. The government has shut down all of the churches and established anti Catholic laws, jealous of the rising power of the church, and nervous of the corrupt ways in which the church has been dealing with sin. The main character, a nameless whiskey priest, hopelessly roams the desolate plains of southern Mexico, on the run from the law, as the only priest left who has not denounced his fatherhood. The surrounding communities in southern Mexico refuse to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... p. 42 Everybody the priest encounters will not harbour him because of fear of the law. These barren lands symbolize the priest s feeling of worthlesness and rejection from God, and the feeling of inevitable sin and the impossibility of martyrdom. I don t know how to repent. That was true: he had lost the faculty. He couldn t say to himself that he wished his sin had never existed, because the sin seemed to him now so unimportant and he loved the fruit of it... our sins have so much beauty. (p. 128,130) The priest continues to create damage as several innocent members of passing communities are executed by the police for not being able to provide adequate information on the priest s course of action. The priest s developing knowledge of the damage he is creating adds guilt to his anxiety, and he continues to question God about the meaning behind his situation. It infuriated him to think that there were still people in the state who believed in a loving and merciful God. There are mystics who are said to have experienced God directly. He was a mystic, too, and what he had experienced was vacancy a complete certainty in the existence of a dying, cooling world, of human beings who had evolved from animals for no pupose at all. p. 24 As

  • 21. Examples Of The Outsiders In The Outsiders The Outsiders Essay It s hard to be a hero when you do some bad things to get there. In the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton there are two completely different sides of town. The Socs are the rich kids who drive expensive cars and wear expensive clothes and the Greasers are considered the bums. They don t have money and they don t get whatever they want, they also have to work extra hard to get to where they want to be. If you are considered a greaser you are a muffin and the Socs are the cupcakes. Everybody would prefer a cupcake over a muffin, but in this story two boys were just trying to protect themselves and they get into some trouble while doing it so, they hit the road. I am going to tell you about whether or not Ponyboy and Johnny are heroes. In my opinion Ponyboy and Johnny are heroes and that is because they both ran into a burning building to save little kids from catching on fire and dying. People don t just sprint into burning buildings for enjoyment everyday unless it s your job and even then they don t do it for fun. They do it because they wanted to help save lives. Ponyboy going first showed that he didn t want to wait for the fireman to come because it was now or never. I ll get them, don t worry! I started at a dead run for the church, and the man caught my arm. I ll get them. You kids stay out! I jerked loose and ran on. All I could think was: We started it. We started it. We started it! ( Hinton pg. 91). Ponyboy felt bad because he knew that the cigarette him and Johnny had smoked started it. He risked his life to save those children, Johnny too. Johnny went in after Ponyboy. I looked around, startled. I hadn t realized Johnny had been right behind me all the way. (Hinton pg. 91/92). When Ponyboy was getting his head shoved in a fountain and held there by a Soc, Johnny had jumped in to save him. Johnny may have killed the Soc, but he did it to protect himself and Ponyboy, but Johnny is a greaser so he looks guilty to the police either way. I killed him, he said slowly. I killed that boy. (Hinton pg. 56). I don t know if you would call this heroic, but I think it is. The greasers stand up for each other so, if you roll with them you better be willing to die ... A vengeful character is often portrayed as the villain which therefore makes a revenge seem evil, but many authors tend to use revenge in books as a way to surprise the reader. Two short stories that feature the theme of revenge are , The Cask Of Amontillado (CA) by Edgar Allen Poe and Sredni Vashtar (SV) by H.H Munro (Saki). In CA the character s revenge was motivated by Fortunato using acts of derision on the main character in the past, while in Sredni Vashtar Conradin s revenge is motivated by Mrs. De Ropp s absence of sympathy for Conradin. Mrs. De Ropp would never, in her honestest moments, have confessed to herself that she disliked Conradin, though she might have been dimly aware that thwarting him for his good was a duty which she did not find particularly irksome. (1) In this statement, we find out that Ms. De Ropp finds it enjoyable to beat Conradin but won t admit it to herself that she does. Conradin justifiably hates her and knows it in his heart. We see this when the narrator states Conradin hated her with a desperate sincerity which he was perfectly able to mask (1). Conradin s only freedom during the day is when he sneaks out to the gardeners shack. When he is there he praises and worships a large polecat ferret. The cousin is often wonders where he is when he is in the shed. One day she searches his room and finds the shed key. She then goes into the shed when Conradin is inside. Surprisingly, the polecat ferret kills her just as Conradin had prayed for it to do. And every night, in the welcome darkness of his bedroom, and every evening in the dusk of the tool shed, Conradin s bitter litany went up: Do one thing for me, Sredni Vashtar. It is obvious that not everyone can afford the price of justice. Legal funding is vital as this can give a chance to people that are of lesser means, to review their case. Although many people may not be purposefully attempting to continue this system of patriarchy, we each play a role in its survival. In Johnson s article Patriarchy , he is not examining whether a patriarchal system exists in our culture but what factors are driving this system to continue. Although not all male friendships are formed out of objectifying women, homosociality allows connections to be made very quickly among men. This article also shows the fears of taking the path of resistance . Men as well as women are apprehensive to go against the group. Deciding not to join in on the homosocial behavior could result in exclusion or ridicule, and often standing your ground is not worth that risk. Due to such prolonged suffering, the human spirit holding people together the world over had fallen apart at the seams. Upon receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950, William Faulkner delivered an acceptance speech in which he applies balanced sentences, meaningful repetition, and potent hyperbole in order to call aspiring writers to abandon their fears and encourage them to create work that will aid the world in midst of the current, volatile Atomic Age. William Faulkner incorporates balanced sentence structure throughout his speech to draw connections between the writer and their role within humanity. Faulkner begins his speech by addressing all aspiring writers and linking himself to them. He states that these writers are already dedicated to the same anguish and travail, among whom is already that one who will someday stand here where I am standing. Faulkner immediately establishes a hopeful tone regarding the future of writers, writers who, like Faulkner, understand that good writing requires the hard work of self sacrifice. Later on, when discussing the work of authors who disregard the universal truths of writing, Faulkner once again employs a balanced sentence. He claims such works are of defeats in which nobody loses anything of value, of victories without hope and, worst of all, without pity or compassion . Defeat and victory juxtaposed blurs the lines between the two and emphasizes the lack of meaning found within the works of authors unwilling to share the problems of the human heart. The parallelism of victories without hope, pity, and compassion marks any author s work lacking these essential elements as destitute. Faulkner closes his speech with a final balanced statement, The poet s voice need not merely be the record of man, it can be one of the props, the pillars to help him endure and prevail. Faulkner expounds his central message that our writings must be the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Pros And Cons Of Being An American Being an American today should be looked upon an honor and a privilege. Being an American you can witness what 9/11 was all about and how it all came apart from there. It s harder now to see how we are still standing and how we overcome all these problems that are out there. We are still recovering from all that was broken all around us. It s harder nowadays to achieve the American dream because of the cost of our education and health care. People nowadays don t have enough money to pay for health care or child care. Now we are still struggling with trying to not be bankrupted and keeping kids in schools without the pursuits. The poor have to homeschool their kids and don t have the money for all the health payments. American s today are working more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The amount of waste that s produced by the lack of concern for the environment is huge. We as Americans don t see it as a total problem because we re doing different things that we don t pay attention to. We as people need to learn the concept of not wasting anything to harm the people and other things around us. Being Americans, we, get choices rather than having to be told how to live. We get to choose our schools, churches, religions, careers, etc. We don t have to be slaves in the 1800 s. We get to do whatever we desire and get to do whatever we want without anybody telling us what to do. As Americans, we, get to live in whatever way we need to in order to be successful in ways nobody can imagine. Today in order to go to college most kids have to take out student loans in order to get a degree. But paying off those loans before you do becomes a greater achievement. We might not have the money to go to college and then become poor or having a rich life. We shouldn t have to pay thousands of dollars to go to college or the poor don t have enough, why do they still have to get the money? We should get in with no charge no matter ... With little time in country General Fredendall was still very new to the concept of how to manage a war time force and how to properly reconnoiter. This lead to his soldiers not being in place and ready to defend the attack. b. Establish military lessons learned. 1. One of the lessons learned by the Americans was inferior doctrine and lack of air superiority. The current doctrine of the time, which was FM 31 35, was lacking and was ambiguous. It ultimately said the air units need not be assigned or attached to ground units. In July of 1943, a few months after the defeat at Kasserine Pass, it was replaced by a better less ambiguous FM 100 20. The new regulation read, Land power ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. What Was The Mashiach s Impact On Judaism Judaism, one of history s oldest monotheistic beliefs, is a semitic religion based upon the covenant made by the Jewish God, Yahweh, to Abraham. Abraham s descendant was Jacob called Israel. From Abraham came the beginning of the Jewish religion and from Israel came the nation through which the covenant was to continue. However the people did not always stay faithful to God and it is due to a number of significant people that the religion was able to continue to today. Isaiah s impact on Judaism can still be seen in modern Judaistic society and religion. Isaiah was born at a time of historical importance during an era of political turmoil. Around the year 740 BCE Isaiah was born. During his life he experienced the destruction of Israel circa 722 BCE, when Assyrians defeated the Northern Kingdom of Israel and absorbed her ... Pod Method In Pp Method The simulations of reservoir are very important and have a wide range of applications, from ground water production to radioactive waster and the extraction of oil and gas from the subsurface. 3D reservoir modelling provides more details for multiphase flows in porous media. However, the computational cost of 3D reservoir simulations is intensive. The non intrusive reduced order modelling technique presented here is capable of resolving 3D reservoir modelling problems while avoiding the high computational cost. The reduced order modelling technique has been shown to possess a powerful capability of representing the large dynamical systems using only a few number of reduced order basis functions. Among the model reduction methods, the POD ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A number of efficient non linear treatment methods have been presented, for example, Gappy POD cite{willcox2006unsteady}, the empirical interpolation method (EIM)cite{Barrault2004} and its discrete version discrete empirical interpolation method (DEIM) cite{Chaturantabut2010}, residual DEIM cite{Dxiao2014}, Petrov$ $Galerkin projection method cite{Carlberg2011}, Gauss$ $Newton with approximated tensors (GNAT) method cite{carlberg2013gnat} and the quadratic expansion method cite{du2013pod,fang2009reduced}. This was my first time learning about George Price, I was shocked to read that he married someone twelve years older than him. Price was a strong believer and supporter of Creationism but he made friends with people who were not like Dr. Alfred Smith, who got him to research evolution (Numbers, p. 91). • 46. Benefits Of Single-Sex Education Margaret Kierath ENGL 1101 3 December 2017 Are there benefits to students experiencing single sex education? In education there are two types of educational settings, single sex and co ed. The former is where only one gender is taught in either a school or a classroom and co ed is where both sex intertwine an learn in a classroom or school together. Single sex education helps the girls or boys learn at their own paste. Some benefits to single sex educational settings to consider are style of learning, higher education, interest s and how more independent students from singe sex schools are. Single sex education has been around for decades; however, within a coeducational setting it started rapidly growing in 2006. According to Spielhagen and Kohl, in 2006 NASSPE recorded dingle sex schools in eighteen states. Within five years the number of single sex schooling has become larger. In order to be able to have single sex education in classrooms there are three regulations. The first regulation was to make participation voluntary , second was to show that the single sex classes meet important government objectives , and third provide a comparable co educational classes in a geographically accessible location . In order for there to be single gender classes the school had to also give the option of co ed classes as well. Single sex classrooms were put in place because girls and boys tend to learn differently and take in the information differently then each other. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Police Brutality And The Riot During 1992 in South Central Los Angeles, a riot started after the news of four white Los Angeles police officers beating Rodney King was published on TV. It became daily news. The riot caused many crimes to occur; participants of the riot burned down business stores, destroyed properties, and some activities involved guns that have led to many deaths. Many South Central residents were unsatisfied with police brutality and the way their community were being treated. Although the riot only lasted for about a week, about 52 people were killed (Kivisto and Rundblad 82). The whole neighborhood were ruined and destroyed. Ever since that riot, there were over 1 million property loss (Kivisto and Rundblad 82), and over 700 businesses were burned down (Bergesen and Herman para. 1). Many people lost their jobs because their workplace were destroyed. There were many different reasons that may have caused the 1992 riot in Los Angeles to occur. However, not all of them were the main reasons of the riot. There were many side causes, for instance, after the video of Rodney King being beaten was shown on television, residents of South Central Los Angeles started to act up. They were affected by how King was being mistreated and how police brutality played a big role in the video and their society. King s incident was very similar to many other cases. Wonder Women Wonder Woman THE SILVER AGE WONDER WOMAN In Issue #8 of DC s All Star Comics (cover date: Jan. 42) there s an eight page story in tended to test readers reaction to a new type of hero. Written by Charles Moulton (pseudonym of Psychologist William Moulton Marston), with art by Harry G. Peters, Wonder Woman, Amazon Princess, enters a troubled world. Positive feedback encouraged DC to give her the lead feature in a new anthology series Sensation Comics. An ardent believer in feminism, and a great admirer of Margaret Sangster, founder of Planned Parenthood, Marston imbued his creation with qualities normally found in male heroes. Wonder Woman (nee Diana) is the daughter of Queen Hippolyta, who sculpted her from clay. The statue was given life by Aphrodite and powers (wisdom, strength, speed, etc.) by the other Greek Goddesses. Because they understand how things work, and that what goes around comes around. This ties directly with the down to earth perspective that rural Kansas offers. Just exactly what is a down to earth perspective? A layman definition of a down to earth perspective is seeing the world as it really is. You do not need to embellish it, or pretend that the world is something that it is not. With a down to earth perspective you see the world, and in it, you see truth. It is a second instinct of most Kanasans to develope a down to earth perspective, because there is earth all around us. Farmers work in and with the earth to reap a bountiful harvest.
