Sanity Like One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest
Throughout the mid 1960 s to the late 1970 s, the concept and interest of mental illness has been
studied and discussed in countless different mediums ranging from films that tackled issues of
sanity like One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest to novels that dealt with much darker issues such as
schizophrenia in Flora Schreiber s Sybil. One of the most controversial and talked about
productions of the 20th century is Peter Shaffers 1974 Tony winning play, Equus, which recounts
Dr. Martin Dysart s encounter and treatment of a seventeen year old boy, Alan Strang, who blinded
six horses with an icepick. The play focuses on therapy sessions between Dysart and Alan in which
Dysart struggles arduously to bring to the surface Alan s inner psyche and reasons for blinding the
different horses. The play has content that may suggest the story focuses on mental illness,
sexuality, and religion; however, this is only when the text is read and understood on an efferent
level. The true essence of Equusis located in the numerous biblical parallels found through the
analyzation of the plot lines that suggest. Through the analysis and biblical relation of plot points
and scenes in Equus, the true essence of the story is revealed; not only is Equus a story of mental
illness and sexuality, but it is also a parable of sorts, showing biblical passages and stories in a
different and more relatable light.
The root and essence of the biblical parallels in Equus are present from the first moment that

Long Overdue Yard Debris
The warmer months of the year are great for getting any long overdue yard work done. You can
use the long days to clear up detritus that has started to take over or to finally find a new home for
objects you only planned to house outside temporarily. The yard debris removal tips below will
help you to get started.
What Are Some Starter Tips for Removing Yard Debris?
1. Remove Large Objects
When you first begin cleaning up your yard, start removing all of the large items lying around, such
as tree limbs, rocks, or any furniture you might have moved to this area. If you are trying to add a
garden or do some landscaping, think about how you might reuse some of these objects for
decorative purposes. For the rest, it might be necessary to get

Why I Want to Attend Western Oregon University Essay
Western Oregon University Western Oregon is a standard 4 year, medium sized college. It is
located in the small, rural town of Monmouth, but only 10 miles from an urban city. Being
primarily residential, Western Oregon brings a certain family vibe, which they claim you cannot
find anywhere else. Many students say that their favorite part of Western Oregonis the size, since it
gave them more one on one time with their professors. There are a total of eighty three majors.
Before financial aid and any scholarship money are entered the tuition is $8,274 for in state
students, while out of state student s tuition is $21,759. Western Oregon estimated total cost if you

Examples of the intramural sports they have are normal sports such as basketball, volleyball,
softball, and even flag football; some sports that are not so average are billiards, walleyball,
racquetball, and triathlons. This year at WOU they have a total of seventeen activities that you can
take part in. These activities include campus ministries, literary magazines, and a television station.
As you can imagine the activities provided at WOU bring in a lot of their students because it is a
great opportunity to get experience for your future job! Western Oregon s retention rate for part
time students is 36%, while their rate for full time students is 72%. This statistic speaks loudly for
the good environment, social community, and classroom environment! The safe environment of
this small liberal arts college brings many students in to the college. The serious crime rate (per
1000 students per year) is 0.96, the drug or weapon incidents is 5.59, and as you could guess the
highest rate is alcohol encounters at 13.12. Though these statistics might seem high they are
actually very low compared to other colleges. The graduation rate for males is 33%, while the
rate for females is 43%. The rate of getting a bachelor s degree within four years is 16%, but the
percentage goes all the way up to 34% after five years of studies. After studying the ups and downs
about this college I found that there are

Fatigue Contributed And A Serious Medication Error
Fatigue contributed to a serious medication error in Wisconsin. After working a 16 hour shift, a
labor/delivery nurse came in the next morning to work another shift. Because she d had only a few
hours off between shifts, she d arranged to sleep at the hospital. Late in the morning of the second
day, she admitted a young patient. The physician had ordered an antibiotic to be given right away.
The nursepicked up what she thought was the antibiotic and hung it without scanning the patient or
the medication. Tragically, the drug she actually gave wasn t the antibiotic but bupivacaine
fentanyl, an epidural anesthetic. The patient died within an hour. Initially, the nurse was charged
with felony neglect of a patient causing great bodily harm, but pled guilty to the misdemeanor of
dispensing and illegally obtaining a prescription. Her nursing license was suspended for 9
months and she was barred from working in an obstetric or critical care area or working any
shift longer than 12 hours (American Nurse Today 25). For the past 15 years many people have
devoted their time and effort into the great debate centered around eight versus 12 hour nursing
shifts. Twelve hour shifts date back to the 1970s when they were used as a means of holding onto
staff during the national nursing crisis, and have continued to gain popularity ever since. This
crisis, due to the shortage of nurses, was the result of, the growing population across the USA after
World War II . . . and shortages in the

Beloved By Toni Morrison Literary Devices
There are always multiple interpretations of a text that depend on the reader s experiences. Words
work the same way yet, readers want to find the correct interpretation. Toni Morrison writes in
her foreword for Beloved that in order to render enslavement as a personal experience, language
must get out of the way (xix). The foreword sets up the reader to grapple with the fact that
Morrison wants them to view the text through more than one lens, lenses that may not come from
their personal experiences but still valid lenses, and to experience the text through these many
perspectives. Morrison comments on a reader s desire for a singular lens through Sethe, Paul D,
Baby Suggs and Denver s different meanings of the word tree. Based on her experiences the word
tree represents the past and death for Sethe. In Sethe s memory she remembered boys hanging from
the most beautiful sycamores in the world. It shamed her remembering the wonderful soughing
trees rather than the boys. Try as she might to make it otherwise, the sycamores beat out the
children every time and she could not forgive her memory for... Show more content on

cleansed the participants from all of their anger and pain. Yet after Schoolteacher and his men

this world (210). Baby Suggs believes she was punished by God when they came into her yard, her
safe haven, and began to associate trees with punishment and unexplainable cruelty. Although Baby

Have you ever seen destruction or had something of yours destroyed? There may not have been an
obvious immediate benefit from that destruction. Edward Bloor teaches us that destruction creates
a chance for growth and opportunity. In the novel Tangerine by Edward Bloor, he describes the
life of 13 year old Paul Fisher. Paul witnesses the destruction of his first school, Lake Windsor,
from a sinkhole. Due to this destruction, he gets the opportunity to go to a new school called
Tangerine Middle. There he makes friends and finds himself helping them with the freeze. The
freeze is when the temperature drops and the tangerine trees start to freeze. After the freeze, the
trees produce the wonderful growth of the amazing golden dawn. Therefore, Edward Bloor uses the

Long Beach For My Clinical Rotation
I had the privilege of going to Smith Elementary School in Long beach for my clinical rotation. I
didn t know what to expect before going in, but as soon as I walked in, I was greeted with
friendly smiles. Nurse Olga was the most friendliest nurse and she showed me how things
worked around her facility. They have computer system program that shows all the teachers can
look at to find out their student s health conditions. The nursing office had pretty much all the
basic equipments that she would need to take care of her patients. My activities included signing
in patients as they came in, prioritizing care based on complaints. Checking patient s temperature
was very common and I had to call several parent to pick up their children due to fever and
malaise. I learned how to give vision and hearing test to children. Couple patients had routine
medications like Albuterol and Clonidine. Most of all I had to treat basic wound care. As I
observed NurseOlga s daily routine, she practices all the components of the community based care.
She taught her patients on self care, preventive care, continuity of care, and collaborative care. Her
role as a teacher was that she told her patients on how to care for their wounds and how to take their
medications. She told them what they can do to prevent from getting hurt in the playground.
Couple students were daily visitors because they had chronic conditions like asthma and they
needed their regular Albuterol inhalers.

Abstract
This essay examines how companies are meeting the demand for a highly skilled work force
through the integration of technology and higher education as well as adaptation policies enacted
by the FAA. It will examine the current market as well as forecast the next few years within the
industry and how this will affect employers and employees including an emphasizes on the
additional training and certification required of new hire pilots. Finally, this paper will also
analyze the effects of new policies and procedures as a result of certain events both locally and
internationally.
Education and Training within the AviationIndustry
The aviation industry, especially the commercial airliners, requires constant improvement in order
to meet the increasing consumer demand for safe and efficient air travel. In their most recent FAA
Aerospace Forecast, the FAA projects an increase with commercial activity The most fundamental
element that keeps these travelers safe is the need for adaptive and relevant education and training
for airline employees.

Advantages Of Computer Invented Animation
Walt Disney animation
Hand drawn vs. Computerised
Walt Disney, a household name for kids and adults alike, the power house of kid s animation!
This was up till its last drawn animation of The Lion King in 1994, when other animators like
Pixar and DreamWorks came up with more modern computerised 3D films, such as Toy Story in
1995; Ants in 1998 and Shrek in 2001. All these animations had box office success and all were
computer generated.
While Disney was producing hand drawn animation like Hercules, Brother Bear and Fantasia they
were falling behind and losing vast amounts of money. The fact that not one of these movies made
it into the top of the charts fuelled rumours that they might close down the animation section.

More to hunting: than just a Sport
There is much more benefits to hunting beside a trophy that is mounted on a wall. Although
hunting is consider as a sport, it is imperative to proper conservation efforts throughout the United
States and is extremely important to control animal population which also has to do with
transportation safety. Also, huntingtremendously supports an animal s life, by minimizing disease.
The benefits overpower the negatives when it comes to ethical hunting; and for this important
reason, the division of wildlife closely analyzes and issues a calculated number of hunting licenses
each year. Hunting has been a form of collecting food and is an activity that is enjoyable and gives
time to family to bond. However, a major misconception by many is that hunting is an ethical and
an unnecessary sport, due to the trophy hunting and the entertainment that comes with hunting. The
pain and suffering that an animal could potentially endure when being hunted, has far less
suffering than if it was to die of starvation or a disease. An animal s death could be far more
agonizing and for extended periods; which is major reason on understanding both side of the
spectrum.

the ethics of hunting while they are hunting. Hunting is only cruel when someone is breaking

The Current Outbreak Of Ebolavirus
On the 8th of August 2014 the World Health Organisation declared the current outbreak of
Ebolavirus to be an international health emergency. This epidemic is the largest ever seen of the
disease, and is located in West Africa particularly in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. At present
it has led to over 5,000 deaths, with more than 14,000 people having been infected.
Ebola virus disease (EVD) has been portrayed by some as a major threat to health outside of West
Africa, though this is disputed. There is currently no fully tested prophylaxis nor treatment
available, and the disease has a relatively high case fatality rate. The combination of these factors
has resulted in the disease being prominently discussed in the media around the world, and has
generated a large amount of public interest. The question we are addressing is what would possibly
lead to an outbreak in Europe, and discussing the controls and surveillance presently employed.
Background of the virus
EVD is a disease predominantly affecting humans and other primates. It is caused by members of
the Ebolavirus genus in the Filoviridae family, which are single stranded RNA viruses. There are
five species of Ebolavirus, with the current outbreak being caused by Zaire Ebolavirus (ZEBV).
The different species vary in their fatality rates and geographical distributions (2).

spreading to the capital, Conakry, as well

America s Two Party Political System Essay
While gearing up for the 2016 election, it was extremely clear that this election was going to be a
turning point in American politics. Ever since the 2016 Presidential candidates started
campaigning over a year ago, one thing is becoming very clear: America s two party political
system is in disarray. Party systems in the United Statesare inherently unstable. Because it is a two
party system, the party that wins is the party that builds the biggest coalition. But the bigger the
coalition, the more unstable it is (Drutman). The struggle is finding solutions to fix it. It definitely
did not help that businessman Donald Trump became president. Currently, there are two main
parties in the United States federal system: the Democratic Partyand the Republican Party. There are
also many third party alternatives that are struggling to change the way we look at politics. To
make sense of America s two party political system, we must first go back to 1776 when Federalists
and Anti Federalists were first established. The Federalists advocated for a strong and centralized
national government that promoted economic growth in order create friendly relationships with
Great Britain. Furthermore, the Federalists supported a national bank, tariffs, and a loose
interpretation of the United States Constitution. On the contrary, the Anti Federalists opposed a
strong, centralized government and did everything in their power to minimize the power given to
the federal government.

The Importance of Perspectives in The Odyssey and The Penelopiad Margaret Atwood writes in
her novel The Penelopiad I ve chosen to give the telling of the story to Penelope and the twelve
hanged maids...which focus on two questions that must pose themselves after any close reading of
The Odyssey: what led to the hanging of the maids, and what was Penelope really up to? The
Odyssey tells the story of the long journey of Odysseus s return home to Ithaca after fighting in
Troy for ten years, in which he overcomes the Cyclops, enthralling enchantresses, alluring Sirens,
the despondent Underworld, and dangerous monsters. When he returns home he slaughters the

Penelope wishes to change the way they are portrayed in history instead of being remembered as
deceptive traitors, she wants the Maids to be reminisced as the loyal servants that they truly were,
herself to be remembered as a more compassionate person, and Odysseus to have a slightly less
notable and more humble reputation.
Liu 2 Penelope tells the readers a version of events in which the maids were not deliberately being
rude to Telemachus and Odysseus, and would have behaved differently if they had known more,
trying to change the opinion of the maids from how they are portrayed in The Odyssey. In The
Odyssey, Homer portrays the maids as disloyal and faithless betrayers of Penelope and Odysseus.
Melantho, one of the maids, is portrayed in this way: Flushed with beauty, Melantho mocked him
shamelessly... her heart felt nothing for her mistress anguish now.
she was Eurymachus lover,
always slept with him.
She was the one who mocked her king and taunted... (Fagles 386) Even
though Penelope treats them very lovingly, the Maids feel nothing for the sorrow that Penelope
feels about Odysseus s absence, and are always sleeping with the Suitors, mocking and taunting
their king. The only reason that the maids behave rather rudely to Odysseus and Telemachus is
because they are doing as they are told, as Penelope narrates, Unfortunately I could not tell my
twelve maids who he really was, so they continued their rudeness to Telemachus, and joined the
Suitors in their

Digital systems can be used for numerical systems other than base 2 which uses the values of 1 and
0.
Digital Systems are electronic technology that generates, stores, and processes data in terms of
discontinuous data. The levels of operation for a digital computer, includes the wiring, mechanical
parts, the logical elements, and the functional units for reading, writing, storing, also manipulating
information. For instance Computers, Mp3 Players and Smartphones are examples of digital
systems. It stores or compresses music files and it converts this data into sound waves. It has an
input so the user can interact with the device, like listening to the songs the user have on the users

Digital systems: Compare and Contrast
MP3 is a digital system because it has input, output and process. It processes it into compressed
data. Sounds are stored in numerical form. CD S are much older music formats Music is stored

Poachers Kill Magnificent Animals for Profit Essay
Lions and tigers, oh my! Some know animals such as these to be scary; other people understand
these animals to be a beautiful creation of Earth. Whether you are afraid of mighty beasts or
simply in awe of them, it astonishes many people when they realize how few of them are still
alive. Rhinoceroses, elephants, leopards, tigers, African lions, and many more creatures are all
considered an endangered species, and we are the reason they are deemed that way. The one
element all of those animals have in common is that they are valuable. Rhinoceroses are treasured
for their horns; Elephants for their tusks. Lions, tigers, and leopards are all wanted for their skins.

If any main predator species were to become extinct then prey species would no longer have any
factors regulating their population. Therefore, the prey would have an overproduction of offspring
which would cause a decrease in the plant life and have continuous damage down to the bottom of
the food chain. Eventually, the major disaster that would occur is the exhaustion of the food supply.
Even though poaching may seem unstoppable because of its supply and demand methods, many
people and countries have banded together to help stop the destruction of species and the
detriments that follow. One organization that is attempting to stop poaching is the Environmental
Investigation Agency. The EIA has spread awareness to many different areas and has been
informing the public about how vulnerable ecosystems are and the repercussions that will result if
poaching continues. It also educates people on the simple ways they can help reduce poaching
such as refusing any illegal animal items or parts offered to them. The United States, Canada,
Taiwan, and Australia have also participated in the plan to prevent poaching. All four countries
have laws against finning sharks, or the process of removing a shark s fins and then throwing back
the body. Fisherman are allowed to catch sharks in these countries, but they must retrieve all of the
shark and keep it intact. Nearly all countries and major

Allegory In The Handmaids Tale
The post Gileadean society depicted decades after Offred s story is the final allegory, presenting,
in its totality, the cyclicality of human nature. Just as the rise of Gilead showed the downfall of
liberalism and feminism, the fall of Gilead showed the exact opposite, a return to a world very
similar to the one before Gilead ever existed. In the novel, a symposium on the history of Gilead
describes how Gilead is a fascinating and worthwhile talk (299), using many similar descriptors
as are used to speak of the other classically conservative religious society, Puritanical
Massachusetts. Atwood presents how, just as the rise of Gilead signalled an end to the progression
of economic and social liberalism, the fall of Gilead showed the end... Show more content on

In the novel Moira is described as extremely free spirited and empowered to do as she wishes
before Gilead. During Gilead, her mindset stays the same, as using her extremely powerful
confidence, as her stiff backed posture was apparently enough to convince the Angels on
guard... Moira marched straight out the front door (132). Even under the crushing oppression of
Gilead, people like Moira and Offred keep up their resentment towards being told what to do,
even if the format changes. It is described how in Gilead, Offred decides against being a victim: I
intend to last , she declares. To last, she must pay attention. Especially early on in the novel, she
is alert to every detail around her (Neuman 4). On the more negative spectrum of unchanging
human qualities, Atwood presents the eternal establishment of social classes, even with the
purported ideas that everyone be equal in oppression. In Gilead racial and social divides abound,
as it is reported how The Econowives do not like [Handmaids] (Atwood 44). This, and the fact that
the symposium describes the racism that occurred in Gilead, shows how, no matter what the
society is, people will always carve out a space for them on the social ladder, only to look down on
those below them and envy those above them. The fact that humans, under either an extremely

Hell s Angels By Hunter S. Thompson Summary
Hunter S. Thompson was the author of Hell s Angles published in 1967 by Random House. In
this book Thompson follows Hell s Angles for a two year period, focusing on the Oakland and
San Francisco chapters. The Hell s Angels were known for their violent nature and disregard for
authority. Thompson illustrates this by saying, when you re asked to stay out of a bar you don t
just punch the owner. You come back with your army and tear the place down, destroy the whole
edifice and everything it stand for. No compromise. If a man gets wise, mash his face. If a woman
snubs you, rape her. This is the thinking, if not the reality, behind the whole Hell s Angels act. The

This style of journalism is a first person narrative to report on personal experiences and emotions,
compared with traditional journalism, which relies on some degree of detachment and with its
use of facts and quotations. Hell s Angels should be regarded as an important piece of journalism
because, Thompson reported on events that were relevant to the counter culture and the struggles
of defying social status in the United States. Furthermore the events that are covered in this book
were of interest to people throughout the nation. This book would be of interest to a wide variety
of people. For instance, motorcycle enthuses would likely take interest because, the book is about
a notorious motorcycle gang. People interested in counter culture might also take an interest in this
book due to the fact that the Hell s Angles questioned the social class system. Even people
interested in sociology could also take an interest in the book because, sociology is the study of the
development, structure, and functioning of human society ad social problems. A sociology

Not Having Kids Research Paper
My mom has constantly shared snippets of stories from her past with me, so I have been given a
glimpse into what her life was like before she had me. I have constantly been intrigued by the
stories that she has told me, so when this project was assigned I wanted to learn about what she
considers her hero s journey to be. Before talking to her, I would not have imagined that she
considers her hero s journey to be having my sister and me.
It wasn t until my mom was in her early thirties that she even considered having kids. Before
then, she had gone through her life with the idea of not having kids at all. That changed when a
few of her friends started having children. At first, it didn t prompt any emotion or feeling out of
her until more and more of them started becoming pregnant. That triggered something in me, like,
I don t know, primal, and I wanted to have kids. I knew I wanted to have kids. I don t know that I

Are Children Valued In The Past
Humans have always lived in social groups because of the necessities of each other. One point I
found interesting in this article was how children were valued and taken care of in the past. The
reason why children were highly valued in the past was because there were more caregivers
available for each child. This was due to the fact that people lived in multicultural and social
groups focusing less on the significance of personal space and privacy. All these individuals play
a vital role in the child s advancement and safety. Based on the article, a child under the age of six
has roughly 4 to 5 caregivers which are more than society has in this modern generation. Another
point that fascinates me was how having a logical interaction plays... Show more content on

The Effect Of Recasts And Prompts On Francophone Learners
Regarding output, Corrective Feedback (CF) caters chance for learners to improve their
interlanguage when interlocutors provide correct input (recast) or attempt eliciting the correct
output from learners (prompt). Ammar and Spada (2006) conducted research to compare the
effectiveness of recasts and prompts on Francophone learners of English at different levels. The
study focused on the third person possessive determiners (his and her) which are problematic to
French native speakers. After being instructed the rule and through some practices, learners would
be given either recasts or prompts to errors regarding his and her, or no CF in the control group.
Participants were assessed three times: pre test, immediate post test and delayed post test. The
researchers discovered that instruction and exposure plus CF are more effective than those without
CF. No technique is better than the other since prompts are more effective than recasts for lower
proficiency students while high proficiency students benefit from both equally. Although the study
only focused on the binary forms (either his or her), it suggested that prompts be applied more to
improve lower level learners performance. Interaction is a two way communication under the
sociocultural theory promoting consciousness. From Swain and Lapkin s (1998) study of two

Sri Harsha MaddineniZ1725592CSCI 630 3 Security Enhancements in IEEE 802.11 Wireless LANs
through Wired Equivalent Privacy protocol
Introduction:
Wireless networks are less secure when compared to wired networks. Wired networks such as
Ethernet are physically connected, where as in wireless networks are connected through wireless
radio waves without physical connection between them. As a result, a security breach is easier
in wireless networks when compared to wired networks. In the current world, electronic gadgets
like cell phones, ipads and laptops are interconnected with other devices. In wireless device, a
network radio receiver is able to hear the conversations on a wireless channel as per its range.
Therefore it is easier to breach the conversations that are occurring in wireless networks. The data
that is transferred on the internet should be reliable and secure because it might contain personal
data information like bank login details or insurance details etc. To prevent the issues that are
happening over the network, there are different algorithms used in day to day life by software
engineers while designing the network. Among them Wired Equivalent privacyalgorithm is most
important one. The main purpose of this algorithm is to produce integrity, reliability and security to
data that is transferred on a wireless network. The thesis that I am writing is used for software
engineers who are interested in implementing WEP protocol for their network designs and

The Importance Of A Seed Growing Like A Little Me
When I was a young girl, I cherished the moments my family and I had while we were outside
during the summer. Usually going outside consisted of me riding my newly bought, white and
pink bike that I still wobbled on because it was too big for me or climbing the apple tree in the
front yard, but this time, my parents wanted my brother and I to help garden. The dreadful thing of
planting a beautiful flower in the mucky dirt, left my hands and feet soiled in a dark substance. I
never liked gardening and I hated when I saw the neighborhood children enjoying the activity ,
but I always did what my parents told me. Now, as I look back into the life of the young Brittney,
I realize that the only thing that I didn t like about it was the dirt. Did I not understand what
putting the root into the soil meant, or was I just too childish to remark the significance of a seed
growing like a little me? Never did gardening come across me as fun ! Who wanted dirt stuck
under their finger and toenails and who wanted pretty pink clothes ruined with soil? Not me and at
that time, I could guarantee no other girl would want this either! Fun came to me as climbing a tree
on a hot and humid day, not gardening. Riding a bike up and down ramps, singing little tunes, and
even playing house left me happier than the dirty, disgusting job of gardening. Don t get me wrong,
I loved the smell of flowers and I loved the little bugs that flew or crawled around, but something

The Importance Of Co-Presence In Radio Broadcasting
Radio broadcasting has become an influence in contemporary times as it is a way of communication
to a wider audience. Through radio broadcasting, we are introduced to a variety of components,
different music genres, currents events both locally and internationally, competitions, free
giveaways and live interactions between presenters and listeners. However, it is the idea of co
presence that is stimulated through these components in which makes radio broadcastingexciting to
listen to and engage with. The realm of co presence within radio broadcast has defined how the
audience is actually listening to their preferred radio stations. In this essay will discuss and break
down concepts such as intimacy, liveness and the implied audience that define the hegemony of co

Mai FM is a hip hop and RnB station that is broadcasted all over New Zealand, and throughout the

The Relationship Between Asperger Syndrome And Autism
Introduction The relationship between Asperger syndrome and autism has been a controversial
topic in psychology. There is not a definite correlation which has been decided upon between the
two and chiefly due to the fact that they are both overly similar. Concisely, psychologists seek to
identify the main difference between them. In a simpler way, it is not yet clear whether autism
and Asperger syndrome should be defined as independent (distinct) terms, or whether Asperger
syndrome should be categorized under the wider realm of autism. In their researche, multiple
scholars have come upon differing opinions and theories in support of their own perceptions of
the two disorders which either agree or disagree at some point. Asperger syndrome is derived
from Hans Asperger who is highly recognized for his efforts in defining the disease which many
scholars had described as not diagnosable (Mayes, Calhoun Crites, 2001). Context of research To
understand the standoff between autism and Asperger syndrome, it is important to understand the
common basis of the two disorders as provided by Frith (1991). Autism, which is usually termed
as the parent disorder that may give rise to Asperger syndrome, is a brain abnormality resulting
from brain disease, brain insult, or faults arising from genetic factors. Additionally, it is
developmental, meaning that it manifests itself differently depending on factors such as ability or
age. Since the disorder affects the brain, it is termed as a

Imperialism Essay
Imperialism played a major role in global development, especially in the late nineteenth and early
twentieth centuries. In order to better understand this system, it is important to first look at the
history behind it as well as a model of its implementation. Some Europeans advocated heavily for
imperialism, citing several reasons for doing so. However, other Europeans and other individuals
saw the dangers and issues that accompanied it and spoke against European imperialism.
Imperialism was a trend that gained popularity in the latter half of the nineteenth century. It is
defined as the process of nation building in which new territories, often overseas, were acquired
(textbook, 608). This was done in order to increase the influence of a country through greater
economic power. Germany, France, Russia, the United States, and Japan all tried to increase their
influence and compete with Brittan on a national stage by developing their trade industries as well
as seizing new territories (textbook, 608). This resulted in the movement of several influential
entities including capital, commodities, and information. The dissemination of information in the
new territory from the mother country was common. This was done in order to help the people
living in the area gain a better understanding of the colonizers. However, these colonies were not
considered equal to the mother country and had either reduced ability to govern themselves or
none at all (textbook 608 609). A good

Totalitarianism In The Hunger Games
Topic #4 [insert title]
The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins illustrates a dystopian society where the government tries
to apply a perfect society to maintain the power in all of Panem. The author shows an elaborate
and horrifying description of a society not so unlike our own and provides a clear warning about
the danger of governmental control. The government of Panem has a government which controls
everything. The government shows totalitarianism, a post apocalyptic setting, and the world ranks.
These three main points are what shows how the The Hunger Games is a great example of a
dystopian literature.
The Hunger Games promotes the idea of a total government control. The Capitol controls
everything that the twelve districts do. The world of Panem is divided into 12 districts where each
district has its own role to fulfill from luxury to coal mining. Taking the kids from our districts,
forcing them to kill one another while we watch. This is the Capitol s way of reminding us how
totally we are at their mercy (Collins 18). This shows that the districts all pay a yearly sacrifice
to the Capitol in the form of tributes. Another of showing that the Games is a dystopian society
is that any evidence of an act of rebellion will result in the government having to kill anyone who
gets in their way. Look how he take your children and sacrifice them there is nothing you can do. If
you lift a finger, we will destroy every last one of you. Just as we did in District 13 (18).

Adam s eyes were cast down upon the floor, and Tyler was whispering to him. The Kings

Determination In Where The Red Fern Grows
Novel Theme Essay Michael Jordan once said, Some people want it to happen, some wish it
would happen, others make it happen. In order to achieve your goals, you must work for it and
be determined to get them. You can stay home and dream about your goals, or you can go out
and actually take a risk. This quote shows the theme of determination in Where the Red Fern
Grows, by Wilson Rawls. The theme of determination is shown in section one of this book. On
pages 20 through 21 when Billy worked consistently for two hard years collecting money to buy
pups. This shows the theme of determination because Billy was determined to earn enough money
to buy two coon hounds to hunt and play with. Furthermore, the theme of determination is shown
on pages 27 through 28, when Billy went through a long, hard journey on foot to go get his dogs.
This supports the theme because Billy was so determined to get those dogs, he was willing to
journey on his bare feet to retrieve them. Billy s determination in section one was crucial to him
getting his dogs.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example is on page 94, when Billy worked his arms off trying to cut down a big sycamore
tree with a coon in it. This supports the theme because Billy was determined to get this coon for
his pups. His dogs found the coon and chased it up the tree, and he had to cut the tree down to
keep up his end of the deal. He showed determination again on pages 115 through 119 when he
worked very hard in the freezing cold to try and save Little Ann from the frozen river. This shows
determination because Billy loved Little Ann, and was determined to save her. If Billy didn t use
determination, he would have never gotten his first coon skin, and Ann might have

The Symbols Of A Wonder Woman As A Wonder Woman
She is a dark haired beautiful woman who is a warrior armed with a lasso of truth (Cocca 124 126
Wonder Woman); she is Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman s manifestation in comic books
demonstrates a symbol of a strong woman with her own power. Inspiring girls to change in their
own way through raising awareness for important issues meanwhile providing a positive role model
that Wonder Woman
stands for. Some worry about the effect that images of bondage may counter
Wonder Woman s strong feminine role. However, she breaks free of the constraints of social
norms that allow her to become even stronger. She is more than a pretty face and has inspired real
world change. Wonder Woman is a role model for girls as a symbol of female power with inspiring
empowerment despite critiques that her image is permeated with bondage and sexualization.
Wonder Woman provides girls with a symbol of female strength and power. Comics are narrative
image driven stories, not literal, thus allowing for various interpretations. They are rich with
symbolism, color, and emotion that creates the rich stories of these heroes (Spieldenner 238). What
symbolic representation does Wonder Woman have? Batmans image is reducible to a bat symbol;
(Spieldenner 238) then reducing Wonder Woman into a single symbol it would be a woman.
Over the years, she has changed costumes, colors, and origins thought storylines meanwhile
always being a female representation (Yonkey Spieldenner 238 Cocca 98 101). The one thing
that Wonder Woman is known for is female representation. However, there are critiques that
Wonder Woman may not provide a role model for all girls because she does not always represent
girls of color. PГ©rez s Wonder Woman was more racially diverse as were the Amazons(Cocca 98).
However, Wonder Woman is often remembered as a white female which may lie in the Greek
myths of the Amazons. Greek myths depict Amazon women as white (Mayor 118). This is an
explanation to the possible invasive representation of a white Wonder Woman. There are more
issues to fair representations, however, they are beyond the scope of this paper. Comic characters
are not just their images, but also in their actions (Spieldenner 238) through the genre that allows

Gouging And Virtue
There is always a debate when it comes to price gouging and virtue because it can cause many
problems/dilemma in our society. Price gouging occurs when goods and services are being charged
more than the normal amount, which happens in a natural disaster. An example that was mentioned
in the book was that in the aftermath of Hurricane Charley, generators that go for $250 were now
raised to $2000 (Sandel, 2009, p. 3). The concept of virtueis what society wants to encourage in a
community such as good traits or qualities of character which are accepted. (Sandel, 2009, p. 7).
According to Sandel, virtue is a principle which is used as a decision making to determine what s
right and wrong in a society. The concept of virtue applies to price gouging

Lombroso s Biological Theory Of Crime
Introduction:
Italy is a country in Europe, well known and distinctly identified on maps by its shape of a boot
that is flanked by the neighbouring countries of France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia. As of
May, 2016, the current population of Italy is approximately 60 million people. On the one hand,
Italy is a country of grand culture, scenic landscapes, rugged mountains, and rich history and art. On
the other hand, Italy is an important gateway and client of Latin American cocaine and Asian
heroin entering the European market, money laundering by organized crime, and various
smuggling operations. Italian mafia activity accounts for fourteen percent (14%) of Italy s GDP
(gross domestic product), which is one of the primary indicators ... Show more content on

The Italian School of Criminology was interested in why some persons engaged in criminal
behaviour and other persons did not. The school s thinking was that some people had a
biological inclination and tendency for crime. Lombroso believed that certain individuals with
this biological trait could be identified by specific physical deformations and disfigurements:
extended jaws, drooping eyes, large ears, flattened noses, longer arms and fingers, sloping
shoulders, and a lower back that jutted outward. Lombroso had conducted his research for this
theory in the Italian prison system, collecting detailed and specific physical measurements of
prisoners and comparing the measurements with those of regular Italian citizens. Lombroso
aimed to prove that criminals were atavists biological throwbacks from early human evolution,
who engaged in criminal activity and violence because it was an instinctive trait. During a post
mortem autopsy on a man named Giuseppe Villella, a notorious Calabrian thief and arsonist,
Lombroso wrote, At the sight of that skull, I seemed to see all of a sudden, lighted up as a vast
plain under a flaming sky, the problem of the nature of the criminal an atavistic being who
reproduces in his person the ferocious instincts of primitive humanity and the inferior animals.
Thus were explained anatomically the enormous jaws, high cheek bones, prominent superciliary
arches, solitary lines in the palms, extreme size of the orbits, handle shaped or sessile ears found
in criminals, savages and apes, insensibility to pain, extremely acute sight, tattooing, excessive
idleness, love of orgies and the irresistible craving for evil for its own sake, the desire not only to
extinguish life in the victim, but to mutilate the corpse, tear its flesh, and drink

Taking A Gap Year Essay
Take the gap year Every year there are millions of students who graduate high school and the
majority will go to college. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, Of the
3.0 million youth age 16 to 24 who graduated from high school between January and October
2015, about 2.1 million (69.2 percent) were enrolled in college in October. ( College par 3.) The
other nine hundred thousand students will either delay college or have decided to never enter
college. Taking time off between your high school graduation and the start of college, or during
college, is considered a gap year. This time off can be structured, such as traveling for
volunteering. On the other hand, it can be unstructured, such as leisurely activities. Some of the
most prestigious colleges in the United States encourage taking a gap year, including Harvard,
Yale, Princeton, and Cornell. For nearly 40 years, Harvard has recommended this option, indeed
proposing it in the letter of admission. (Fitzsimmons et al. Par. 21). There are a great deal of
benefits to students delaying the start of college and taking a gap year. One of those valuable
benefits is the ability of gaining life experience. When taking a gap year, the student may have the
ability to travel outside their normal life. Traveling gives an individual a new insight and
perspective into the world. According to Bob Clagett, the director of college counseling at St.
Stephen s Episcopal School, students who ve

The Power and Influence of Gospel Music on the American Civil Rights Movement
For centuries, Gospel music has influenced and promoted African American social, moral and
ethical values, playing an imperative role in modelling their past and future. Originating from the
hardships of slavery and the strength of Christian worship, Gospel music has adapted to musical
tastes through the development of a number of sub genres, while retaining its moral and spiritual
framework. Throughout its musical history, Gospel musichas had a profound and predominant

As Gospel music has a complex and diversified history, there are several forms of the genre, many
of which intertwine with Soul (Gospel s secular counterpart), Blues and Jazz. Consequently,
although adaptable and broadly defined, Gospel s all embracing musical lesson of spiritual
contemplation and persistence, has always been a constant reminder for its enthusiasts.
Born in New Orleans, in 1911, Mahalia Jackson, Gospel s leading ambassador and advocate, grew
up in a conservatively religious family, with church music playing a prominent role in her early
years. At age sixteen, Jackson met the Gospel composer and arranger, Thomas A. Dorsey, who

involved in the civil rights movement in the 1950s and 60s, Jackson was renowned for her

Impairment In Iowana Essay
Currently, Iowa has some of the worst waters in the nation. The Clean Water Act requires states to
biannually test surface water to determine impairments. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources
defines impairment as A waterbody is impaired when its water quality does not fully support that
waterbody s designated uses for human contact, aquatic life, or drinking water. They note that an
impairment on one part of a stream or river does not necessarily mean that at other points of the
waterbody it is constituted as impaired. The meaning deals with what the waterbody is designated
for and whether it meets the standards set for that use. The amount of Iowa water bodies listed as
impaired is very high, but there are also many bodies that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The options we have available to alleviate this situation are few. One option, considered by many
is simply to do nothing. This is advanced by many who believe that since we can treat the water
we should not be placing any more burden upon our farmers. Most Republicans in the state
legislature believe this is the best idea, because it is better to have the Des Moines Water Works to
have to pay to fix the water than to place costly measure upon farmers and hurt out economy.
However, this option does not fix our increasingly polluted water, and does not help fix the
increasing Dead Zone.
DMWW already tried suing upstream farmers and counties to have their runoff under the Clean
Water Act however, the judge declared that the issue should be left to the state legislature. Those
listed in the lawsuit were farmers located in the counties of Buena Vista, Calhoun, and Sac, each
in Northern Iowa and feeding waters into the Raccoon River. Because this legal action was
thrown out, the judicial approach is an unlikely path for any future policy change in this instance.
Because of the judge s ruling that the legislature is the only way to change this, that means a bill
is how it will have to be fixed. The best option to alleviate farm runoff would be to impose similar
regulations to what the state of Minnesota has done. The

The Two Kinds By Amy Tan
In 2009, 33 million people in the United States were second generation immigrants, representing
11% of the national population. The children of such immigrants in the U.S., also known as second
generation immigrants, experience a cultural conflict between that of their parents and that of
mainstream U.S. society (Wikipedia 1). Amy Tan the author of Two Kinds , and the young

parents, about the culture they assimilating and their real culture. In the Two Kinds story the author
illustrates the struggle between her American cultural identity, and her mother s Chinese culture, as
like the characters in the story. The author shows what is the struggle and the conflict that cultural
differences creates. The author also uses symbolism, to address the conflicts between the characters
in the story. The biographical connection that the author Amy Tan draws in her short story Two

Ski Wax Research Paper
The chemistry that skiers use is ski wax. This wax helps the skiers to control how their skies
perform under certain conditions. The type of ski wax depends on the type of snow they will
encounter while skiing. Chemicals in some wax help skis go smoother down the mountains. The
wax repels water that is on the skis as they go down the snow. On the other hand, cross country
skiers must go uphill as well as down hill, so their wax has to grip the snow while going uphill.
There are two formulas for skiwax, one that makes skis faster, and another that helps it grip. Wax
contains one or more hydrocarbons. The molecules are made from a chain of hydrogen and carbon
atoms. The first layer of wax on the skis connects with the bottom to keep out dirt

Jacob Lawrence s Migration Series And The Gullah Culture
Within the Gullah culture, the sensation of pain and suffering, movement, and history runs
within the veins of the Gullah people that essentially ties into Jacob Lawrence s Migration
Series. The panel that had a lot of meaning and significance behind the drawing was panel twelve
that consisted of African Americans leaving the south in trains with specific appointed guards in
line to be able to keep order in the train station. Within the panel, the sense of pain and suffering
within the African American drawings, is clearly portrayed and they are also compared to the
Caucasian guards in the drawing in a very significant way. When it comes to movement, the
reason for why individuals had the tendency to migrate ended up adding up to a much bigger
result than just simple struggles. The history behind the Jacob Lawrence s Migration Series and
the Gullah culture is more than just a basic relation, on the contrary they have an intensified
connection that ties them together. Within Jacob Lawrence s twelfth panel, pain and suffering
plays an important part in the drawing. The caption for panel 12 states, The railroad stations were
at times so over packed with people leaving that special guards had to be called to keep the order
in the train station (Lawrence, 12). Jacob Lawrence drawing in panel 12 also holds various
meanings and inspirations behind the drawing. With the pain and suffering, the concept of
discrimination also ends up being portrayed in the drawing. In the panel,

Augustine On Free Will Analysis
In Augustine s On Free Choice of the Will he explains that the human soul is predisposed to
have a good will and that it is a will by which we desire to live upright and honorable lives and to
attain the highest wisdom (Augustine 19, 1993). Augustine believes that in order to be free we
must live according to our good will. To follow our good will we must live according to the four
main virtues in life: prudence, fortitude, temperance, and justice. He defines prudence as having the
knowledge of what is to be desired and what is to be avoided (Augustine 20, 1993). Augustine
establishes fortitude as the disposition of the soulby which we have no fear of misfortune or of the
loss of things that are not in our power (Augustine 20,1993).... Show more content on

He explains justice as the virtue by which all people are given their due (August 20,1993). In On
Free Choice of the Will Evodius says that, [he] acknowledges that all four virtues that
[Augustine] just described, ... are present in those who love their own good will and value it
highly (Augustine 21, 1993). Here Evodius is stating that by living with these four virtues we
are able to live a happy life that is in accordance with our good will. Augustine states that to have
a good will is to have something far more valuable than all earthly kingdoms and pleasures...
(Augustine 20, 1993). Here he is saying that to be happy in life you must have more than just
temporary possessions such as money or health, Augustine defines these possessions as temporal
objects. In order to have a good will we must make a distinction between temporal objects and
eternal objects; he explains these differences in the temporal and eternal laws. The eternal law
demands that we purify our love by turning it away from temporal things and toward what is eternal

King Lear Betrayal Quotes Analysis
The common quote of To every action there is a repercussion definitely holds true in the book
King Lear written by Shakespeare. This is especially shown between loyalty and betrayal when
analysed in tandem. This can be seen in this work all throughout the course of Act 1. First off
with King Lear s three daughters; Goneril, Regan and Cordelia. The three daughters have always
been told what to do by the King(quote), they very rarely were able to make choices on their
own. This made them classified as loyal. Until one day when Cordelia decided to make her own
choice. (Quote) Cordelia break apart from her controlled life and live her own. She had to in
essence betray the King to become free. The reason this is so significant because basically

Police Brutality Of Police Officers
Recently police have come under fire for the deaths of many unarmed African American males.
This has broken the trust between civilians and police and torn our country apart. People are
frustrated about the killings of unarmed citizens and how it seems every officer can get away with
killing an unarmed suspect. Back in 1994 a law was passed that required the Federal Bureau of
Investigation(FBI) to record date on policeinvolved shooting and deaths by police officers. Except
where are the numbers that would show there is an increase in unarmed African American deaths
from police officers? The 1994 law requires the FBI to keep record of police shootings across the
United States. However, the only police shooting records that could be found on the FBI website
was Justified Homicide From on Duty Officers from 2008 2012 . So the question becomes
where is the data that proves there is an increase in African American deaths by the hands of
police officers. With the recent outcry of Police Brutality you would think that the FBI would
ve released records or started recording any and all police shootings. Experts say that we aren t
experiencing an increase in police shootings just an increase in media coverage of police
shootings. According to a professor from University from Albany who teaches sociology says his
research has found that major news agencies have elevated the coverage of police fatalities despite
the decrease of police killings according to statistics. Aaron

  • 2. Sanity Like One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Throughout the mid 1960 s to the late 1970 s, the concept and interest of mental illness has been studied and discussed in countless different mediums ranging from films that tackled issues of sanity like One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest to novels that dealt with much darker issues such as schizophrenia in Flora Schreiber s Sybil. One of the most controversial and talked about productions of the 20th century is Peter Shaffers 1974 Tony winning play, Equus, which recounts Dr. Martin Dysart s encounter and treatment of a seventeen year old boy, Alan Strang, who blinded six horses with an icepick. The play focuses on therapy sessions between Dysart and Alan in which Dysart struggles arduously to bring to the surface Alan s inner psyche and reasons for blinding the different horses. The play has content that may suggest the story focuses on mental illness, sexuality, and religion; however, this is only when the text is read and understood on an efferent level. The true essence of Equusis located in the numerous biblical parallels found through the analyzation of the plot lines that suggest. Through the analysis and biblical relation of plot points and scenes in Equus, the true essence of the story is revealed; not only is Equus a story of mental illness and sexuality, but it is also a parable of sorts, showing biblical passages and stories in a different and more relatable light. • 5. Fatigue Contributed And A Serious Medication Error Fatigue contributed to a serious medication error in Wisconsin. After working a 16 hour shift, a labor/delivery nurse came in the next morning to work another shift. Because she d had only a few hours off between shifts, she d arranged to sleep at the hospital. Late in the morning of the second day, she admitted a young patient. The physician had ordered an antibiotic to be given right away. The nursepicked up what she thought was the antibiotic and hung it without scanning the patient or the medication. Tragically, the drug she actually gave wasn t the antibiotic but bupivacaine fentanyl, an epidural anesthetic. The patient died within an hour. Initially, the nurse was charged with felony neglect of a patient causing great bodily harm, but pled guilty to the misdemeanor of dispensing and illegally obtaining a prescription. Her nursing license was suspended for 9 months and she was barred from working in an obstetric or critical care area or working any shift longer than 12 hours (American Nurse Today 25). For the past 15 years many people have devoted their time and effort into the great debate centered around eight versus 12 hour nursing shifts. Twelve hour shifts date back to the 1970s when they were used as a means of holding onto staff during the national nursing crisis, and have continued to gain popularity ever since. This crisis, due to the shortage of nurses, was the result of, the growing population across the USA after World War II . . . and shortages in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Beloved By Toni Morrison Literary Devices There are always multiple interpretations of a text that depend on the reader s experiences. Words work the same way yet, readers want to find the correct interpretation. Toni Morrison writes in her foreword for Beloved that in order to render enslavement as a personal experience, language must get out of the way (xix). The foreword sets up the reader to grapple with the fact that Morrison wants them to view the text through more than one lens, lenses that may not come from their personal experiences but still valid lenses, and to experience the text through these many perspectives. Morrison comments on a reader s desire for a singular lens through Sethe, Paul D, Baby Suggs and Denver s different meanings of the word tree. Based on her experiences the word tree represents the past and death for Sethe. In Sethe s memory she remembered boys hanging from the most beautiful sycamores in the world. It shamed her remembering the wonderful soughing trees rather than the boys. Try as she might to make it otherwise, the sycamores beat out the children every time and she could not forgive her memory for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hunting Persuasive Essay Vasquez 1 Vanessa Vasquez Professor Katie English 122 01 March, 2017 More to hunting: than just a Sport There is much more benefits to hunting beside a trophy that is mounted on a wall. Although hunting is consider as a sport, it is imperative to proper conservation efforts throughout the United States and is extremely important to control animal population which also has to do with transportation safety. Also, huntingtremendously supports an animal s life, by minimizing disease. The benefits overpower the negatives when it comes to ethical hunting; and for this important reason, the division of wildlife closely analyzes and issues a calculated number of hunting licenses each year. Hunting has been a form of collecting food and is an activity that is enjoyable and gives time to family to bond. However, a major misconception by many is that hunting is an ethical and an unnecessary sport, due to the trophy hunting and the entertainment that comes with hunting. The pain and suffering that an animal could potentially endure when being hunted, has far less suffering than if it was to die of starvation or a disease. An animal s death could be far more agonizing and for extended periods; which is major reason on understanding both side of the spectrum. Ever since the 2016 Presidential candidates started campaigning over a year ago, one thing is becoming very clear: America s two party political system is in disarray. Party systems in the United Statesare inherently unstable. Because it is a two party system, the party that wins is the party that builds the biggest coalition. But the bigger the coalition, the more unstable it is (Drutman). The struggle is finding solutions to fix it. It definitely did not help that businessman Donald Trump became president. Currently, there are two main parties in the United States federal system: the Democratic Partyand the Republican Party. There are also many third party alternatives that are struggling to change the way we look at politics. To make sense of America s two party political system, we must first go back to 1776 when Federalists and Anti Federalists were first established. The Federalists advocated for a strong and centralized national government that promoted economic growth in order create friendly relationships with Great Britain. Furthermore, the Federalists supported a national bank, tariffs, and a loose interpretation of the United States Constitution. On the contrary, the Anti Federalists opposed a strong, centralized government and did everything in their power to minimize the power given to the federal government. ... The Odyssey tells the story of the long journey of Odysseus s return home to Ithaca after fighting in Troy for ten years, in which he overcomes the Cyclops, enthralling enchantresses, alluring Sirens, the despondent Underworld, and dangerous monsters. Liu 2 Penelope tells the readers a version of events in which the maids were not deliberately being rude to Telemachus and Odysseus, and would have behaved differently if they had known more, trying to change the opinion of the maids from how they are portrayed in The Odyssey. In The Odyssey, Homer portrays the maids as disloyal and faithless betrayers of Penelope and Odysseus. Melantho, one of the maids, is portrayed in this way: Flushed with beauty, Melantho mocked him shamelessly... her heart felt nothing for her mistress anguish now.

Just as the rise of Gilead showed the downfall of liberalism and feminism, the fall of Gilead showed the exact opposite, a return to a world very similar to the one before Gilead ever existed. In the novel, a symposium on the history of Gilead describes how Gilead is a fascinating and worthwhile talk (299), using many similar descriptors as are used to speak of the other classically conservative religious society, Puritanical Massachusetts. Ammar and Spada (2006) conducted research to compare the effectiveness of recasts and prompts on Francophone learners of English at different levels. The study focused on the third person possessive determiners (his and her) which are problematic to French native speakers. After being instructed the rule and through some practices, learners would be given either recasts or prompts to errors regarding his and her, or no CF in the control group. Participants were assessed three times: pre test, immediate post test and delayed post test. The researchers discovered that instruction and exposure plus CF are more effective than those without CF. No technique is better than the other since prompts are more effective than recasts for lower proficiency students while high proficiency students benefit from both equally. Although the study only focused on the binary forms (either his or her), it suggested that prompts be applied more to improve lower level learners performance. Wired networks such as Ethernet are physically connected, where as in wireless networks are connected through wireless radio waves without physical connection between them. As a result, a security breach is easier in wireless networks when compared to wired networks. In the current world, electronic gadgets like cell phones, ipads and laptops are interconnected with other devices. Despite the weak market overall, the market for digital mediais undeniably hot and barring a consumer spending meltdown, it should stay that way. • 36. The Relationship Between Asperger Syndrome And Autism Introduction The relationship between Asperger syndrome and autism has been a controversial topic in psychology. There is not a definite correlation which has been decided upon between the two and chiefly due to the fact that they are both overly similar. Concisely, psychologists seek to identify the main difference between them. In a simpler way, it is not yet clear whether autism and Asperger syndrome should be defined as independent (distinct) terms, or whether Asperger syndrome should be categorized under the wider realm of autism. In their researche, multiple scholars have come upon differing opinions and theories in support of their own perceptions of the two disorders which either agree or disagree at some point. Asperger syndrome is derived from Hans Asperger who is highly recognized for his efforts in defining the disease which many scholars had described as not diagnosable (Mayes, Calhoun Crites, 2001). Context of research To understand the standoff between autism and Asperger syndrome, it is important to understand the common basis of the two disorders as provided by Frith (1991). Autism, which is usually termed as the parent disorder that may give rise to Asperger syndrome, is a brain abnormality resulting from brain disease, brain insult, or faults arising from genetic factors. Additionally, it is developmental, meaning that it manifests itself differently depending on factors such as ability or age. Since the disorder affects the brain, it is termed as a ... • 38. Imperialism Essay Imperialism played a major role in global development, especially in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In order to better understand this system, it is important to first look at the history behind it as well as a model of its implementation. Some Europeans advocated heavily for imperialism, citing several reasons for doing so. However, other Europeans and other individuals saw the dangers and issues that accompanied it and spoke against European imperialism. Imperialism was a trend that gained popularity in the latter half of the nineteenth century. It is defined as the process of nation building in which new territories, often overseas, were acquired (textbook, 608). This was done in order to increase the influence of a country through greater economic power. Germany, France, Russia, the United States, and Japan all tried to increase their influence and compete with Brittan on a national stage by developing their trade industries as well as seizing new territories (textbook, 608). This resulted in the movement of several influential entities including capital, commodities, and information. The dissemination of information in the new territory from the mother country was common. This was done in order to help the people living in the area gain a better understanding of the colonizers. However, these colonies were not considered equal to the mother country and had either reduced ability to govern themselves or none at all (textbook 608 609). A good ... • 42. Totalitarianism In The Hunger Games Topic #4 [insert title] The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins illustrates a dystopian society where the government tries to apply a perfect society to maintain the power in all of Panem. The author shows an elaborate and horrifying description of a society not so unlike our own and provides a clear warning about the danger of governmental control. The government of Panem has a government which controls everything. The government shows totalitarianism, a post apocalyptic setting, and the world ranks. These three main points are what shows how the The Hunger Games is a great example of a dystopian literature. The Hunger Games promotes the idea of a total government control. The Capitol controls everything that the twelve districts do. The world of Panem is divided into 12 districts where each district has its own role to fulfill from luxury to coal mining. Taking the kids from our districts, forcing them to kill one another while we watch. This is the Capitol s way of reminding us how totally we are at their mercy (Collins 18). This shows that the districts all pay a yearly sacrifice to the Capitol in the form of tributes. Another of showing that the Games is a dystopian society is that any evidence of an act of rebellion will result in the government having to kill anyone who gets in their way. Look how he take your children and sacrifice them there is nothing you can do. If you lift a finger, we will destroy every last one of you. Just as we did in District 13 (18). ... In order to achieve your goals, you must work for it and be determined to get them. You can stay home and dream about your goals, or you can go out and actually take a risk. This quote shows the theme of determination in Where the Red Fern Grows, by Wilson Rawls. The theme of determination is shown in section one of this book. On pages 20 through 21 when Billy worked consistently for two hard years collecting money to buy pups. This shows the theme of determination because Billy was determined to earn enough money to buy two coon hounds to hunt and play with. Furthermore, the theme of determination is shown on pages 27 through 28, when Billy went through a long, hard journey on foot to go get his dogs. This supports the theme because Billy was so determined to get those dogs, he was willing to journey on his bare feet to retrieve them. Wonder Woman s manifestation in comic books demonstrates a symbol of a strong woman with her own power. Inspiring girls to change in their own way through raising awareness for important issues meanwhile providing a positive role model that Wonder Woman stands for. Some worry about the effect that images of bondage may counter Wonder Woman s strong feminine role. However, she breaks free of the constraints of social norms that allow her to become even stronger. She is more than a pretty face and has inspired real world change. Wonder Woman is a role model for girls as a symbol of female power with inspiring empowerment despite critiques that her image is permeated with bondage and sexualization. Wonder Woman provides girls with a symbol of female strength and power. Comics are narrative image driven stories, not literal, thus allowing for various interpretations. They are rich with symbolism, color, and emotion that creates the rich stories of these heroes (Spieldenner 238). What symbolic representation does Wonder Woman have? Batmans image is reducible to a bat symbol; (Spieldenner 238) then reducing Wonder Woman into a single symbol it would be a woman. Over the years, she has changed costumes, colors, and origins thought storylines meanwhile always being a female representation (Yonkey Spieldenner 238 Cocca 98 101). The one thing that Wonder Woman is known for is female representation. However, there are critiques that Wonder Woman may not provide a role model for all girls because she does not always represent girls of color. PГ©rez s Wonder Woman was more racially diverse as were the Amazons(Cocca 98). However, Wonder Woman is often remembered as a white female which may lie in the Greek myths of the Amazons. Greek myths depict Amazon women as white (Mayor 118). This is an explanation to the possible invasive representation of a white Wonder Woman. The Italian School of Criminology was interested in why some persons engaged in criminal behaviour and other persons did not. The school s thinking was that some people had a biological inclination and tendency for crime. Lombroso believed that certain individuals with this biological trait could be identified by specific physical deformations and disfigurements: extended jaws, drooping eyes, large ears, flattened noses, longer arms and fingers, sloping shoulders, and a lower back that jutted outward. Lombroso had conducted his research for this theory in the Italian prison system, collecting detailed and specific physical measurements of prisoners and comparing the measurements with those of regular Italian citizens. Lombroso aimed to prove that criminals were atavists biological throwbacks from early human evolution, who engaged in criminal activity and violence because it was an instinctive trait. During a post mortem autopsy on a man named Giuseppe Villella, a notorious Calabrian thief and arsonist, Lombroso wrote, At the sight of that skull, I seemed to see all of a sudden, lighted up as a vast plain under a flaming sky, the problem of the nature of the criminal an atavistic being who reproduces in his person the ferocious instincts of primitive humanity and the inferior animals. Thus were explained anatomically the enormous jaws, high cheek bones, prominent superciliary arches, solitary lines in the palms, extreme size of the orbits, handle shaped or sessile ears found in criminals, savages and apes, insensibility to pain, extremely acute sight, tattooing, excessive idleness, love of orgies and the irresistible craving for evil for its own sake, the desire not only to extinguish life in the victim, but to mutilate the corpse, tear its flesh, and drink ...
