Corporate Strategy and Project Management
41. Corporate Strategy and Project Management: the relationship between them and implications for
the management of an international project.
Introduction
This paper draws attention to the detached relationship between the corporate strategy and project
management. Solutions offered by various researchers to align both of them are discussed and
examine how they could be proposed for the management of international project, in particularly for
the construction industry.

Milosevic amp; Srivannaboon (2006) and numerous literature highlighted that the rift between project
management and corporate strategy is causing projects to be poorly managed leading to frequent
project overruns . Ginevri amp; Beraha (2006) further warned about the gap, noting that corporation

The solution: bridging the gap between project to corporate strategy
Relationship between corporate strategy and project should not merely be looked upon as a top down
approach where executive management drives strategy down to project. For project to work, here must
be two way influence between project management and business strategy. Successful links flow both
ways. (Combe 2000). Successfully project is only possible when business strategy

Gender Roles And Expectations
Gender roles and expectations leave a massive, indirect impact on people of western culture. It can
limit both genders as to what they are socially allowed and not allowed to do. While most believe that
the roles appear natural, it is only because it is how they are raised to believe, not because of biology.
It is completely okay to believe and stick to gender roles on one s own terms, but the issue lies when
the individual is oppressed or harassed for straying from the subjective social construct of standards. It
affects a lot of western culture, making different people be able to obtain different professions, wear
certain clothing choices, have dominant or passive roles in relationships, and be accepted as either
more assertive and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Violation of gender role expectations are met with criticism and penalized (Prentice D.A., 26). While
penalizing can be imposed by others, it is mostly self imposed internally. Children as young as two or
three years of age are able to discern genders roles. In cross sex behaviors, females crossing over are
viewed more favorably compared to males crossing over. Socially, women can be accepted wearing
masculine clothing, while men are rarely able to been seen as feminine, such as wearing a dress,
without violence or being harassed. A prediction as to why females crossing to male are view better
upon than vise versa Feinman s differential hypothesis is based on the idea that a woman s movement
into the highly valued male role is more acceptable than a male s movement into the less valued
female role. Punishment for straying from gender roles are more prevalent for those who do not
identify with any gender. There is a problem in our culture if a set of entirely subjective guidelines
implement violence with those who do not follow them. Even women who follow the traditional set
gender roles suffer, as the construct is set to oppress women to be subordinate to men. Women still
manage to stick to their own set of beliefs and are independent and assertive still face feats, as many if

Values Of Christianity And Paganism In The Wanderer
Most scholars think The Wanderer first appeared as a piece of oral poetry during the 5th or 6th
century, a time when the Germanic Pagan culture of Anglo Saxon England was undergoing a
conversion to Christianity. It contains traces of both traditional Germanic warrior culture and of a
Christian value system. The speaker for much of the poem is a warrior who has had to go into exile
after the slaughter of his lord and relatives in battle. Now, he contemplates what the experience of the
exile teaches him about life.
For most of the poem, the speaker expresses traditional Germanic beliefs about how a wise man
should act, the inevitability of death, and mankind s inability to change his fate. The poem is
bookended, though, by the Christian idea of the possibility of God s favor and grace, which the
speaker holds up as the only possible refuge from all the misery he witnesses. The relationship
between fate in Old English, wyrd and God s grace is not clear in the poem; the presence of both
might be evidence of The Wanderer s position at the meeting point of Christianity and Paganism.
The Wanderer is both a lament for all the things the speaker and people more generally have lost, and
also a reflection on what wise men learn from their life experiences. With this dynamic duo, The
Wanderer combines parts of two traditional genres of Old English poetry: the elegy, or lament, and the
wisdom poem. These two genres aren t unrelated, since Anglo Saxon poets believed that

Internal System Controls And Application Controls
Internal System Controls
Introduction
Now a days businesses rely mostly on technology. However, there are risks that business information
systems face such as human input errors, transactions or data input that are improperly approved prior
to data input, and input controls that do not provide assurance that all transactions are initially
captured and recorded; these risks are all categorized as data origin risks. Business organizations
combat this and other risks using General Controls and Application Controls. Please keep reading to
find out what this controls are and how this controls are used, as well as learn about other risks that
business face and their respective categories.
1. General Controls
General Controls consist of implementation controls, software controls, hardware controls, computer
operations controls, data security controls and administrative controls. These controls ensure that
authorized user involvement as well as specific procedures and standards are followed, controlled and
are properly managed to secure physical and electronic data.
2. Application Controls
Application specific controls include data origin, data input, data processing and data output controls.
These controls ensure accuracy, completeness, validation, tracking and proper reliable distribution of
data is attained in an organizational environment. Other application controls are application access,
audit trail and documentation controls; that ensure controlled segregated access to

Benedict s Life After Ww2
During WWII, when Benedict was assigned to study the Japanese, they were not well understood. Her
job was to paint a portrait of the culture that would help the United States to understand how their
enemy acted and why they acted the way that they did. Not only that but to also better understand how
they would act to changes the United States planned to make for their government. The Japanese were
not an easy culture to understand, which made the assignment even more difficult with Benedict not
being able to observe in person. Benedict said, The Japanese have been described in the most fantastic
series of but also s ever used for any nation of the world (Benedict, 1946:1). This is why Benedict s
use of the chrysanthemum and the sword was so fitting: the Japanese were unlike western civilizations

Japan would throw down arms tomorrow if the Emperor should issue such an order (Benedict,

Graduated Driver License
Within the United States and throughout the world we have young men and women driving for the
first time. Furthermore, there are some concerns with young drivers not being responsible enough to
handle the operations of a vehicle without doing harm to themselves or someone else. Consequently,
we need to apply stronger restrictions on new drivers from the age of 16 21, in doing this the mortality
rate will begin to drop.
Graduated Driver License
The rate of vehicle incident is high among our youth. The Graduated Driver License or the GDL was
developed in the mid 90s in the United States to lower the incident rate. In the mid 1970s to the early
1990s the rate of mortality dropped from 390,000 to 280,000 deaths per year, but from 1992 to 2000
the rate has remained at a constant level. To address the issues, many states implemented a new
program called the GDL and recent study has been shown that this program is working. The study was

The Culture Of Culture In Indonesia And The Philippines
5. CULTURE
Indonesia and The Philippines are countries rich in culture. And for most travelers, it s very important
to learn about the culture of the places they explore. Manila and Jakarta are an amalgam of fascinating
influences from the past up to the present. Each city has something excitingly different to offer hence
the high score on both!
MANILA: 9/10
The Philippines is made up predominantly of Roman Catholics and is the 4th largest Christian country
in the world. So don t be surprised to find chapels built on a lot of spots in the city and even inside
malls! Moreover, Filipinos are known to be extremely hospitable and friendly. You will find that
almost everyone in Manila speaks good English so a language barrier will not be a problem. You will
also notice the western influence everywhere in this city when it comes to fast food chains. Local
youngsters follow many U.S. fashion trends without fail so expect to see familiar brands like H M and
Forever21 in malls everywhere. Manila is definitely a city any traveler will find easy to blend with!
JAKARTA: 9/10
As the capital of Indonesia, has a massive selection of historical and architectural attractions. It is a
melting pot of different cultures and ethnicities and because of that it s quite hard to identity a
common culture. In addition to that, many native immigrants flock to this capital along with their
customs and traditions. Jakarta s culture influences would include Dutch, as it had been a Dutch

Amputated Limb
Abstract
Through previously conducted experiments, it has been shown that amputation results in a reduction
of gray matter in areas in the motor cortex that represent the amputated limb. This study focuses on
the changes in gray matter of amputees with differing intensities of phantom limb pain (PLP). To
analyze two potential causes of transformation in the cortex, the changes of patient s brain structures
with high chronic PLP are compared to patients who did not develop PLP or only mild PLP. In
addition, a second group was tested to specifically focus on patients experiencing intense PLP and
patients with phantom limb sensations (PLS) and slight PLP. This paper gives a detailed summary of
how the research from the article concluded that amputees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Four Key Components Of Eating Healthy Children
DEAR ABBY: It has come to my attention recently that my child Sterling who s seven refuses to eat
anything that is remotely healthy. He will eat anything that is covered in sugar or is very processed
e.g. fast food, frozen meals. I give in to his demands sometimes, but that is only because I want to see
him eat something. I am a very healthy person myself and I eat mostly fruits, vegetables and chicken. I
will consistently make him very nice and healthy dinners when the wife and I sit down to eat, but he
refuses to eat them. He seems to be healthy and he is growing like a weed, I just never see him eat
anything with the suggested nutrients a child should be getting. What would you recommendations be
in order to address this situation? The paths that I was considering were holding out and keep eating as
I normally do and maybe he will get hungry, or my other option is to start giving him vitamins for the

a healthy lifestyle when it comes to nutrition and eating. The rules of eating need to be taught
regardless of whether Sterling is currently following the rules because he will use the information

it is that he practices safe eating habit even if he is not currently practicing healthy eating habits. Make
sure he sees you trying food that you have made clear you don t care for. If you demonstrate this
practice he will be more likely to try new food after he sees a role model go out of their comfort zone

Jainism And Buddhism Similarities
Buddhism and Jainism both originated from Hinduism. Buddhism and Jainism originated and
developed as distinct religions in the same geographical area. With that being said there are going to
be some similarities among both Buddhism and Jainism. Both of the religions are known as atheistic
religions and are considered to be polytheistic religions that have a primary goal. Buddhism s goal is
gain enlightenment, The Buddha taught that by understanding how we create suffering for ourselves
we can become free. (Fisher 137) Jainism s goal is to liberate the soul, Jain teachings recognized that
we humans are imperfect, but hold out the promise that through careful control of our senses and

For Daiki s age group Berger says, Language allows a person to enter and traverse the zone of
proximal development, because words provide a bridge from the child s current understanding to what
is almost understood (Berger, 253). Daiki is Chinese so maybe the fact that he doesn t speak complete
or full sentences is because his parents possibly do not. This could be one reason, or he could have just
not yet developed this certain skill yet. I noticed that Daiki demonstrated egocentrism, in that he sees
the world in just his own perspective and not any one else s. Daiki showed this when he threw his
power ranger across the room. When he threw the figurine he was just thinking in his point of view.
He knew that he was frustrated and the only way he thought he could get out his frustration was by
throwing the power ranger. He did not think about how it would affect other people. Egocentrism is
very typical for Daiki s age group. Typical five year olds don t realize that people have thoughts and
have points of view of their own, that they themselves can personally affect. Egocentrism is very
important concept from Piaget s pre operational theory. Although this is one aspect of cognitive

Keeping Your Flower Bulbs and Garden Safe Essay
Growing spring flowers from bulbs can be a rewarding venture that improves your garden s aesthetic

protect your spring flowers from these deceptively cute critters.

Other methods that you might want to try to keep rabbits from eating your spring flowers can include
allowing a dog or cat to roam the garden. Flashing lights and noise making devices might also keep
the critters at bay, but isn t guaranteed to work, and unless ultrasonic, the noise can be bothersome to
nearby neighbors. The unpleasant prickly texture of evergreen limbs of a Christmas tree, placed on the
soil where your bulbs are buried, can also keep rabbits away. (See References 5, p. 107)

Strong Interest Inventory Of A Career Assessment
Strong Interest Inventory Evaluation The Strong Interest Inventory is a career assessment that began
as the Strong Campbell Interest Inventory in 1927 and was developed by E.K. Strong Jr. (Blackwell
Case, 2008). It was created from the observations that were made of the interests of workers in
varying careers (Yazak, 2014). From such observations, Strong believed that individuals who have
interest that are similar to those of people in a particular career tend to experience greater satisfaction
if they work in that area than if they enter an occupation with people of dissimilar interests (Yazak,
2014). Test Coverage and Use The Strong Interest Inventory includes 291 items that are meant to
measure an individual s interests in many different areas including their hobbies and compares the
interests of workers in 130 occupations (Blackwell Case, 2008). This inventory may be taken by
individuals starting at the age of thirteen and going on through adulthood given that it meant to help
individuals get a better picture of occupations that might fit best for them. There are a total of four
categories of scales in the Strong Interest Inventory including the General Occupational Themes,
Basic Interest Scales, Personal Style Scales, and Occupational Scales (Herk Thompson, 2011). The

The History Behind The Conflict

A conflict that started when the Romans invaded and conquered Judea, the homeland of the Jews, and
claimed it to be Palestine. Later on, Palestine was conquered by the Arabs. For more than a thousand
years, the Arabs have inhabited in Palestine.
With much resentment for those who stole their home of ancient times, there was the creation of the
Zionist Movement. The plan was to bring back Jews to Israel, but with the situations, they were to
overlook the large population of the Arabs located there.
In 1917, Palestine was endowed to Britain. Palestine was acknowledged as a League of Nations
mandate to construct a national home for the Jews. Resentment was now towards the Jewish
population for stealing land that the Arabs claimed as theirs. Riots were commonly repeated, and
following was a revolt. Fabricating the rivalry between the Jews and the Arabs in Palestine.
In 1947, the United Nations rationed the land into states between the Arabs and the Jews. This was not
accepted by the Arabs, so a war was declared. With the Jews being victorious, they extended their
state. The Arab states still refused to recognize Israel or make an attempt to make peace.
With the Jews and the Arabs disagreeing with one another, many wars broke out, terror raids executed,
and the Israeli reprisals.

Why Are The Witches Important In Macbeth
In the play of Macbeth, the witches have a major impact on the plot and effect on the man Macbeth.
They helped produce the story that generations of people have come to love and, without them, the
story would have been completely different. They not only caused Macbeth s power to rise, but they
also bring him to his tragic downfall. Through their influence, Macbeth transformed from the war hero
that Scotland loved to the brutal tyrant who ruled the land. Due to this, the witches have the biggest
impact on the story than any other minor character the audience meets.
From the beginning, the witches are well aware of the evil they re about to cause. When the play
begins, the audience or reader sees or reads that the sisters are clearly planning something. This
becomes obvious when the second witch says that they will meet again when the hurly burly s done,
when the battle s lost and won (i.i.4 5). It does not become clear that they will meet again when they

worry. There is only one way that he can replace the king: the king has to die and Duncan is still alive
at that point. As the scene progresses, the audience or reader sees or reads that he starts to consider the
quickest route to him becoming the new king: he has to kill Duncan. Would he have considered killing
the king if the witches had not told him of his future? No. Fate would have played out the way it was
supposed to without Macbeth turning against him. It is the witches telling of the prophecy that creates

Analysis Of The Film Chocolat
The foreign film that I chose to review was Chocolat, which was released in 2000 and was directed by
Lasse Hallström. This film followed the story of Vianne Rocher (Juliette Binoche) and her young
daughter Anouk (Victoire Thivisol), set in France about fifteen years after World War 2. They
wandered around Europe, guided by the north wind, and they come across a small village. There, they
opened up La Chocolaterie Maya, a chocolatier. The mayor, Comte de Reyaud (Alfred Molina) was
very displeased with this since the town was steeped in strict tradition and was just starting to observe
Lent. Her chocolate began to change the lives of everyone in the town, broke down barriers, renewed
marriages, and freed people. The film ended with Vianne and her daughter settling down in the town
for the first time, instead of moving on with the north wind and the town was changed forever. This
film was based in France and the majority of the film was shot in the village of Flavigny sur Ozerain
in Burgundy, France. The language that was spoken in the film was English with a strong French
accent. There were some French words throughout the film and all the names such as the people, the
village, and the businesses were French.
There were several messages that the filmmakers were trying to communicate. One of these messages
was that stereotypes are not always correct. According to the book, Communication Between Cultures,
when people are confronted with a lack of familiarity or similarity, they

The Characteristics Of Aborigines In The Secret River By...
In The Secret River, the emancipists that have been transported to Australia continuously mistreat and
disrespect the Aborigines, who are presented as the foundation of Australia. The Aborigines are forced
into hidden parts of Australia where they are massacred by poison they are tortured in a foreign way
by foreign people without cause. For over thousands of years, the Aborigines have lived in peace on
land that belonged to everybody, in a peaceful community. Grenville presents the Aborigines to be
strongly linked to nature. Grenville portrays the Aborigines as beautiful and empowered symbolised
by physical features. Oppositely the Aborigines are presented as vulnerable, animal like and Grenville
uses the novel to convey a message that the use of Australia as a penal colony has a negative effect on
the Aborigines and their culture. Throughout the novel, the Aborigines are presented as powerful
which is reflected in their very rigid facial features. Thornhill says the Aborigine s rock of his face
shaped itself around the big mouth, the imposing nose, the folds of his cheeks. . The adjectives big and
imposing emphasise the power and size of the face, Grenville conveys a message to the reader that the
Aborigine is extraordinary, she uses the to name the Aborigine s features instead of his which suggests
that the facial features are too substantial to belong to one person especially a person of lower status
than the emancipists. Grenville uses a metaphor, rock

Hardships In Of Plymouth Plantation
Of Plymouth Plantation by William Bradford is a narrative that discusses the experiences of the
Puritans that traveled from New England to the New World. The Puritans experienced many hardships
while trying to restart their lives in America. Similarly, Anne Bradstreet from the poem Upon the
Burning of Our House, July 10th, 1666 experiences many hardships in her life in the Americas. The
Puritans experienced hardships that revealed the fact that some Puritans acted selfishly in life, but
others were very loyal and kind to each other, on the other hand, Bradstreet experienced hardships that
tested her beliefs and commitment to Puritan ideology. The leading hardship faced by the Puritans that

According to Puritan ideology, she should not care for these items and if lost she shouldn t mourn for
them. But Bradstreet is concerned with her belongings thus proving that she wasn t completely
devoted to Puritan ideology. Later, Bradstreet shows her commitment to Puritan beliefs as she sees her
whole house burn down. Bradstreet rethinks about how she acted earlier and becomes angry at herself
for straying from Puritan beliefs. She then says farewell, my pelf, farewell my store/ The world no

realization on what she should focus on and that is her home in heaven. She sticks to Puritan ideology

Who Is Willa Cather s Admiration In My Antonia
Willa Cather has a strong admiration for the character Antonia in My Antonia. The introduction of My
Antonia states that the narrator and Jim were to write down all they knew of her in order to maybe get
a picture of her. I believe this strong admiration is because of the characteristics that are shown by
Antonia throughout the story. She is a hardworking girl that belongs to a Bohemian family who has
started a farm in Nebraska. Not only is she hard working but throughout the story she shows
characteristics of being strong both inside and out. Also, it is very apparent that she wants to be
independent and make her own decisions. I think Willa Cather admires the character Antonia because
she can, in a way, reflect on her characteristics

Examples Of Sacrifice In Enrique s Journey
What would it be like to be left alone when people are needed the most? Enrique s Journey is a
biography about a young boy who is left by his mother at a young age as she tries to provide a better
life for her family in the U.S. One example of this is when Lourdes leaves Enrique at such a young
age to provide a better life for him in another country where she can do better financially. Another
example is when Enrique decides to leave Honduras even though he knows that Maria Isabel, his
girlfriend, might be pregnant. A third important event is when Maria Isabel leaves Jasmine to be with
Enrique so they can unite their family at a later time. In the biography Enrique s Journey, Sonia
Nazario shows that sometimes in order to pursue one s goals, major sacrifices must be made.
Lourdes leaves Enrique when he is just a baby so she can find better opportunities in the United States
and provide a better life for him. Nazario says, Lourdes has decided: She will go to the United States
and make money and send it home. She will be gone for one year (4). This shows Lourdes ignorance
and her positive outlook about her choice. Lourdes thinks that leaving Enrique behind is a necessary
sacrifice in order to create a better life for her son, but soon finds out that leaving Enrique as a young
boy proves to be a fatal mistake. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Harry In Micheal Crichton s Sphere
In the novel quot;Sphere by Micheal Crichton, it entails of a psychatrist sent to the underwater site of
a quot;plane crash quot; where they later find the craft is from the future or a alien power. Once they
later inspect the ship more they see that it contains a sphere like object that has the power to manifest
the thoughts (or in the crew apos;s case nightmares) of whoever interacted and went inside of it.
Although this novel is, of course, a science fiction, it does possess some biological facts. Small details
such as the stings of jellyfish venomous stings killing their crew member, a cold water rush having the
ability to kill Norman, a series of glasses breaking around Norman once the oxygen was removed
from the room, not being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though these are just details these are some things that i noticed that were left in the novel and not
brought into the movie. In the novel the ship was attacked multiple times by a squid were in the movie
they only showed one attack. They also removed some fun from the novel too because the reader was
allowed to figure the code out but in the movie Harry solved the code all by himself. Even the
characters main story points were changed like how Beth was left conscious and only anxious when
she set the bomb but in the novel she was unconcious not allowing them to change the time setting.
But even though they had many differences they kept some parts similar like they both included the
code, destruction of habitats, and forgetting completely about the bomb.
This novel gave inspiration for some technology that can be made in the future such a deep
submarines which were fiction around the time the novel was written but later were adopted for
normal use. This novel presents inventions that i believe will be normalized in thr future such as

Rhetorical Questions About Graphic Design
Narrative intro:
Witty comment rhetorical question about art. Artist quote. Implication of the medium of Graphic
design. What is Graphic design what do i Know about Graphic design. This is my journey of
discovery of the pathway of an arts career specifically in the sector of graphic design. Before i
conducted my research about graphic design i new of only certain aspects of graphic design. I knew
graphic design was a career of the art field and was greatly integrated with technology. They use
tablets, computers, etc to create advertisements.
I had made many assumptions about graphic design before i actually researched it. I believed it was a
extremely low paying job, and as was all art involved jobs. I believed you had to be incredibly

It all began that day in the computer lab. I logged onto an ebsco resource database and i began typing
in keywords pertaining to artistic careers, but mainly graphic design. I used lots of my sources i found
on the database were taken from encyclopedias. We went as a class to the computer lab and researched
on ebsco database. I was a bit lazy, then a couple weeks later i finally took the plunge and went to the
library. I love books and libraries, but it s just a social issue for me. Books are so personal and to have
someone else read and feel the same things is just so exposing and you kinda feel naked. So being in a
library with other people is somewhat... weird. But finally my friend, lauren, and i entered the library.
I initially had a hard time finding any books, i really don t like asking for help because it s honestly
awkward. But i found an initial art/ film isle. It was very limited but i didn t expect more from a
school library. To my delight i found that there was a somewhat large isle all pertaining to graphic
design. I m short, so i made sure to bring a tall friend to reach the books on the top shelf. I proceeded
to grab three books, two on the history of graphic design (which deemed less helpful), and an
explanatory manual on the different aspects of Graphic design. I also watched a documentary on
netflix called Abstract: The art of Design I found the best information in that book, describing the
basics of graphic design and in the netflix documentary. The documentary offered insight on different
fields of design whether it was political cartoons, stage design, typography, or in the fashion industry.
The basis of my project is specifically graphic design, yet graphic design is applicable to many
mediums. The book gave me the basic details and background information, and i could apply my
previous knowledge to really understand the netflix documentary which was a series of interviews of
designers and their specifics of their

The analysis of Nike in athletic footwear market based on porter s Five forces model by Duke
Introduction
Given the demands of today s competitive and dynamic environment, it is quite challenging to
understand strategic issues facing organizations and develop the capability for long term
organizational success. Introduction in today s dynamic and competitive business environment,
survival, growth and profitability are the essence goals of all industries. Nowadays, Porter s Five

Successful use of the Porter Model Analysis includes identifying the sources of competition, the
strength and likelihood of that competition existing, and strategic recommendations for the action a
company should take to develop barriers to the various forms of competition (Prahalad and Gary,
1990). With the realization about intensity and power of competitive forces, organizations can develop
options to influence them in a way that improves their own competitive position. The result could be a
new strategic option, e.g. a new positioning; differentiation for competitive products of strategic
partnerships.
Porter s Five Forces can be applied to particular companies, market segments and industries with the
step by step analysis of market structure and competitive situation. First of all, when implementing
this module in organizations, it is necessary to determine the scope of the market to be analyzed.
Following, all relevant forces for this market analyzed and key forces are identified (Gerry and Kevan,
P.117). Actually some organizational strategy and the longer term goals are mainly based on or
consistent with the key forces. Hence, it is not necessary to analyze all elements of all competitive
forces with the same depth. Moreover, the key forces in the competitive environment will vary in
different industry. Different forces take on prominence in shaping competition in each industry

The Ascent Of Money By Niall Ferguson
Have you ever finished a book and said to yourself Wow, I am going to reread this book again?
Unfortunately, The Ascent of Money by Niall Ferguson is not a book where you will likely reread it,
instead you will be saying Is it finally over? Ferguson explains how money came to be in our society
by starting off with the first use of currency to the end where money has become something we cannot
even touch. As a person who is not interested in the history of money, but interested in my net worth
going up, I believe The Ascent of Money by Niall Ferguson did a mediocre job on attempting to
persuade us on how money is one of the backbones of human history.
Initially, the first issue of the book I did not like, jumping from place to place on the timeline.
Ferguson begins with how, before money came about, we primitive peoples chanced upon each other,
it seems, they were more likely to fight over scarce resources (food and fertile women) than to engage
in commercial exchange. (Ferguson 19). Back then we did not need money; instead we just took what
we needed. Then Ferguson jumped right into how the Spanish found gold and silver, then the Roman
Empire, and then Mesopotamia. Ferguson should have followed a timeline and it would have made the
book less confusing to read. In class, I understood what was going on in between those timelines,
however if somebody just picked up the book and started reading it, they would be confused
especially with how we came from the Spanish to

Florence Kelley (1859 1932) Florence Kelley, A Woman of Fierce Fidelity Florence Kelley is
considered one of the great contributors to the social rights of workers, particularly women and

to improve social conditions of the twentieth century. She has been described as a woman of fierce
fidelity (Goldmark, 1953). Kelley was a leading voice in the labor, suffragette, children s and civil

Kelley was very successful in recruiting people to socialism. She told Friedrich Engels: We have a
colony of efficient and intelligent women living in a working men s quarter with the house used for all
sorts of purposes by about a thousand persons a week. The last form of its activity is the formation of
unions of which we have three, the clock makers, the shift makers,, and the book binders. Next week
we are to take the initiative in the systematic endeavor to clean out the sweating dens. The Trade
assembly is paying the expenses of weekly mass meetings; and the sanitary authorities are
emphasizing the impossibility of their coping, unaided, with the task allotted to them. Kelley s
frustration with the repeal of the eight hour work day law for women and children and the difficulty in
prosecuting the sweat shop cases influenced her to enroll at Northwestern University where she earned
a law degree in 1894. In 1899, Kelley returned to New York to assume the leadership of the National
Consumers League, an organization created to use the purchasing power of the consumer to support
firms with good labor practices. She remained with this

The Biological Effects Of Cellular Respiration On...
Introduction Cellular respiration is a complex but fundamental process of life. This process is vital to
all living organisms, whether they are autotrophs or heterotrophs, plants or animals. All biotic life
requires their food to be converted into energy to carry out their basic functions and processes. Cells
use oxygen to transform a simple sugar like glucose into energy, such as Adenosine Triphosphate
(ATP). Glucose is a carbohydrate, which acts as a reactant just like oxygen and water. The products
yield carbon dioxide, water and ATP, which is the opposite for photosynthesis. Cellular respiration can
be divided into three parts: glycolysis, citric acid cycle, and electron transport chain. Many pollutants
can disrupt this biological process and effect organisms and ecosystems. Dioxin is a very toxic
compound usually produced as a byproduct from industrial waste sometimes in the form of pesticides
or herbicide, which was used in Vietnam. TCDD is a commonly studied dioxin that is a mixture of
chemicals found in the environment. Studies have found that humans cannot metabolize this mixture,
which causes several different, harmful biological reactions. TCDD is a direct side product of burning
organic materials. It is also a persistent organic pollutant that inhibits the mitochondria from supplying
energy including ATP and NAD(P)H. This organelle is where cellular respiration is synthesized in
animals and humans. These toxins directly affect the electron chain, which will

Teenage Crime Is A Social Problem Of The World s Attention
In recent years, teenage crime has become a social problem of the world s attention. At the same time,

become a serious problem that endangers public security and the impact of society development.
There are three significant causes of teenage crime: incorrect family education, social factors, and
individual teenage problems. The first cause of the teenage crime is incorrect family education. The
family is the first class for teenagers, and the parents are the first teachers. Proper family education is
extremely important and a lifelong influence on the healthy growth of teenagers. Many parents are
busy with working or get divorced. They do not have time to attend to children. It causes the teenager

I plan to elaborate on the political aspects of Paradise of the Blind by writing a formal letter to the
Vietnam government. The Vietnam government banned this book from the country because of the all
encompassing political aspects included in the book. In the authors books all of the aspects of life are
demonstrated and the total view was an unattractive image for the leaders. This book was banned
because it went against what a government hopes to portray to their people. Duong Thu Huong

the book and I can respect the decision to ban it, but it was banned from the country but that was a
different time and things have changed since then. Under the influence of many years the conditions
and circumstances have changed. Publishing the book provides you with a good opportunity to portray
an understanding for the people and your willingness to cooperate with their wants with little or no
cost to you. Duong Thu Huong has spoken out about the government censorship numerous times and
by allowing her book to be published now, it could allow the people to trust their government.
The book showed a vulnerable time in Vietnamese history fraught with trials and errors on the part of
the government. The fact that it revealed corruption in the government was a problem at the time but
the government has improved since then. After the Ratification of Errors the land owners were

Emperor Penguin Climate Change
These massive changes in climate over millions of years brought about new species and ended others.
As we are living in a cold period in the history of the earth s climate, small temperature changes are
attributed to increased levels of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. The important question is: how will
these changes, man made or otherwise, impact existing species? One easily observed example is
Emperor penguins, residents of the shores and ice shelves of Antarctica. With increasing temperature
of the ocean, the sea ice where they live melts, eliminating nesting areas, the sea levels rise, reducing
shore habitat, and food supply becomes limited. The penguins main diet consists of krill, fish, and
squid. Antarctic krill populations, their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ones residing on the northern coast of Antarctica are prone to ice melting, due to the increasing
temperatures in the spring which shorten the ice season. Those on the southern coast are of least
concern due to the fact that the temperature there fluctuates less drastically. Regarding the penguins
nesting places, immense ice sheets are essential for them to hatch and raise chicks; during the ice
season, Emperor penguins march 60 100 miles to their rookery around May, where they lay, incubate,
and hatch their eggs. Usually, the chicks begin fledging about December and the adults leave.
However, if the ice season is shorter due to warmer temperatures, the ice breaks earlier. Before the
baby penguins can fully fledge and retain waterproof and swimming capabilities, the only habitat they
know is swallowed into the ocean. Then, the immature chicks, unable to swim, are swept into the sea
where they drown. The quintessential nesting grounds of Emperor penguins allow for expansion of
their species. After all, predation by leopard seals and killer whales naturally reduces the population,
and they must repopulate to sustain. The specific, freezing march of Emperor penguins to their nesting
grounds was displayed in the acclaimed French documentary March of the Penguins. The
documentary was recorded in the southern region of Antarctica, where temperatures recorded have

Macbeth Guilt Essay
William Shakespeare s Macbeth is a tragedy in which the plot evolves in great accordance to the guilt
that the individual characters feel. The guilt starts with the planning and execution of the murder of
King Duncan. To this event Lady Macbeth and Macbeth react in different ways. They both become
guilty in some way or another but the guilt they feel is comprised of different reasons. It is due to their
differences in character that they react in the ways they do. While it might not seem like both of them
become guilty after this event, when explored their actions show clearly the guilt they feel.

Macbeth starts off as a brave man who is physically capable of a lot, but is mentally very weak.
Whereas Lady Macbeth is limited physically by her sex, but believes that she is mentally stronger than
Macbeth. As the play pans out we are able to make our own judgment on each characters strengths and
weaknesses. In the unsex me scene Lady Macbeth tells us that she wants to be changed from being a
weak woman so that she can replace Macbeth who is mentally weak with her own mental strength in
order to successfully become the king. After the killing of Duncan Lady Macbeth accidently hints that
she was unable to kill Duncan herself and at this point shows her first signs of mental weakness. After
this point they basically change places, Lady Macbeth becomes and insignificant and weak character
in the play, who spirals downwards into insanity. She grows so ill that the doctor says there s nothing
he can do to help her. The disease, he says, is beyond his practice, and what Lady Macbeth needs is
the divine (a priest or, God), not a physician . On the other hand Macbeth steps up and plans for
himself to murder many more people as his mental strength has significantly grown. Lady Macbeth s
transformation from that of a powerful and unnaturally masculine figure into an enfeebled woman
reestablishes a sense of natural gender order in the play. In other words, Lady Macbeth is put in her

  • 3. Gender Roles And Expectations Gender roles and expectations leave a massive, indirect impact on people of western culture. It can limit both genders as to what they are socially allowed and not allowed to do. While most believe that the roles appear natural, it is only because it is how they are raised to believe, not because of biology. It is completely okay to believe and stick to gender roles on one s own terms, but the issue lies when the individual is oppressed or harassed for straying from the subjective social construct of standards. It affects a lot of western culture, making different people be able to obtain different professions, wear certain clothing choices, have dominant or passive roles in relationships, and be accepted as either more assertive and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Violation of gender role expectations are met with criticism and penalized (Prentice D.A., 26). While penalizing can be imposed by others, it is mostly self imposed internally. Children as young as two or three years of age are able to discern genders roles. In cross sex behaviors, females crossing over are viewed more favorably compared to males crossing over. Socially, women can be accepted wearing masculine clothing, while men are rarely able to been seen as feminine, such as wearing a dress, without violence or being harassed. A prediction as to why females crossing to male are view better upon than vise versa Feinman s differential hypothesis is based on the idea that a woman s movement into the highly valued male role is more acceptable than a male s movement into the less valued female role. Punishment for straying from gender roles are more prevalent for those who do not identify with any gender. There is a problem in our culture if a set of entirely subjective guidelines implement violence with those who do not follow them. Even women who follow the traditional set gender roles suffer, as the construct is set to oppress women to be subordinate to men. Women still manage to stick to their own set of beliefs and are independent and assertive still face feats, as many if not most major professions are dominated by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Values Of Christianity And Paganism In The Wanderer Most scholars think The Wanderer first appeared as a piece of oral poetry during the 5th or 6th century, a time when the Germanic Pagan culture of Anglo Saxon England was undergoing a conversion to Christianity. It contains traces of both traditional Germanic warrior culture and of a Christian value system. The speaker for much of the poem is a warrior who has had to go into exile after the slaughter of his lord and relatives in battle. Now, he contemplates what the experience of the exile teaches him about life. For most of the poem, the speaker expresses traditional Germanic beliefs about how a wise man should act, the inevitability of death, and mankind s inability to change his fate. The poem is bookended, though, by the Christian idea of the possibility of God s favor and grace, which the speaker holds up as the only possible refuge from all the misery he witnesses. The relationship between fate in Old English, wyrd and God s grace is not clear in the poem; the presence of both might be evidence of The Wanderer s position at the meeting point of Christianity and Paganism. The Wanderer is both a lament for all the things the speaker and people more generally have lost, and also a reflection on what wise men learn from their life experiences. With this dynamic duo, The Wanderer combines parts of two traditional genres of Old English poetry: the elegy, or lament, and the wisdom poem. These two genres aren t unrelated, since Anglo Saxon poets believed that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not only that but to also better understand how they would act to changes the United States planned to make for their government. I am a very healthy person myself and I eat mostly fruits, vegetables and chicken. I will consistently make him very nice and healthy dinners when the wife and I sit down to eat, but he refuses to eat them. This could be one reason, or he could have just not yet developed this certain skill yet. I noticed that Daiki demonstrated egocentrism, in that he sees the world in just his own perspective and not any one else s. Daiki showed this when he threw his power ranger across the room. When he threw the figurine he was just thinking in his point of view. He knew that he was frustrated and the only way he thought he could get out his frustration was by throwing the power ranger. • 14. Strong Interest Inventory Of A Career Assessment Strong Interest Inventory Evaluation The Strong Interest Inventory is a career assessment that began as the Strong Campbell Interest Inventory in 1927 and was developed by E.K. Strong Jr. (Blackwell Case, 2008). It was created from the observations that were made of the interests of workers in varying careers (Yazak, 2014). From such observations, Strong believed that individuals who have interest that are similar to those of people in a particular career tend to experience greater satisfaction if they work in that area than if they enter an occupation with people of dissimilar interests (Yazak, 2014). Test Coverage and Use The Strong Interest Inventory includes 291 items that are meant to measure an individual s interests in many different areas including their hobbies and compares the interests of workers in 130 occupations (Blackwell Case, 2008). This inventory may be taken by individuals starting at the age of thirteen and going on through adulthood given that it meant to help individuals get a better picture of occupations that might fit best for them. There are a total of four categories of scales in the Strong Interest Inventory including the General Occupational Themes, Basic Interest Scales, Personal Style Scales, and Occupational Scales (Herk Thompson, 2011). • 16. Why Are The Witches Important In Macbeth In the play of Macbeth, the witches have a major impact on the plot and effect on the man Macbeth. They helped produce the story that generations of people have come to love and, without them, the story would have been completely different. They not only caused Macbeth s power to rise, but they also bring him to his tragic downfall. Through their influence, Macbeth transformed from the war hero that Scotland loved to the brutal tyrant who ruled the land. Due to this, the witches have the biggest impact on the story than any other minor character the audience meets. From the beginning, the witches are well aware of the evil they re about to cause. There is only one way that he can replace the king: the king has to die and Duncan is still alive at that point. • 17. Analysis Of The Film Chocolat The foreign film that I chose to review was Chocolat, which was released in 2000 and was directed by Lasse Hallström. This film followed the story of Vianne Rocher (Juliette Binoche) and her young daughter Anouk (Victoire Thivisol), set in France about fifteen years after World War 2. They wandered around Europe, guided by the north wind, and they come across a small village. There, they opened up La Chocolaterie Maya, a chocolatier. The mayor, Comte de Reyaud (Alfred Molina) was very displeased with this since the town was steeped in strict tradition and was just starting to observe Lent. Her chocolate began to change the lives of everyone in the town, broke down barriers, renewed marriages, and freed people. The film ended with Vianne and her daughter settling down in the town for the first time, instead of moving on with the north wind and the town was changed forever. This film was based in France and the majority of the film was shot in the village of Flavigny sur Ozerain in Burgundy, France. The language that was spoken in the film was English with a strong French accent. There were some French words throughout the film and all the names such as the people, the village, and the businesses were French. There were several messages that the filmmakers were trying to communicate. One of these messages was that stereotypes are not always correct. In The Secret River, the emancipists that have been transported to Australia continuously mistreat and disrespect the Aborigines, who are presented as the foundation of Australia. The Aborigines are forced into hidden parts of Australia where they are massacred by poison they are tortured in a foreign way by foreign people without cause. For over thousands of years, the Aborigines have lived in peace on land that belonged to everybody, in a peaceful community. Grenville presents the Aborigines to be strongly linked to nature. Grenville portrays the Aborigines as beautiful and empowered symbolised by physical features. Oppositely the Aborigines are presented as vulnerable, animal like and Grenville uses the novel to convey a message that the use of Australia as a penal colony has a negative effect on the Aborigines and their culture. Throughout the novel, the Aborigines are presented as powerful which is reflected in their very rigid facial features. Thornhill says the Aborigine s rock of his face shaped itself around the big mouth, the imposing nose, the folds of his cheeks. . The adjectives big and imposing emphasise the power and size of the face, Grenville conveys a message to the reader that the Aborigine is extraordinary, she uses the to name the Aborigine s features instead of his which suggests that the facial features are too substantial to belong to one person especially a person of lower status than the emancipists. The introduction of My Antonia states that the narrator and Jim were to write down all they knew of her in order to maybe get a picture of her. Enrique s Journey is a biography about a young boy who is left by his mother at a young age as she tries to provide a better life for her family in the U.S. One example of this is when Lourdes leaves Enrique at such a young age to provide a better life for him in another country where she can do better financially. Another example is when Enrique decides to leave Honduras even though he knows that Maria Isabel, his girlfriend, might be pregnant. A third important event is when Maria Isabel leaves Jasmine to be with Enrique so they can unite their family at a later time. With the realization about intensity and power of competitive forces, organizations can develop options to influence them in a way that improves their own competitive position. The result could be a new strategic option, e.g. a new positioning; differentiation for competitive products of strategic partnerships. Ferguson begins with how, before money came about, we primitive peoples chanced upon each other, it seems, they were more likely to fight over scarce resources (food and fertile women) than to engage in commercial exchange. Then Ferguson jumped right into how the Spanish found gold and silver, then the Roman Empire, and then Mesopotamia. • 31. The Biological Effects Of Cellular Respiration On... Introduction Cellular respiration is a complex but fundamental process of life. This process is vital to all living organisms, whether they are autotrophs or heterotrophs, plants or animals. All biotic life requires their food to be converted into energy to carry out their basic functions and processes. Cells use oxygen to transform a simple sugar like glucose into energy, such as Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP). Glucose is a carbohydrate, which acts as a reactant just like oxygen and water. The products yield carbon dioxide, water and ATP, which is the opposite for photosynthesis. Cellular respiration can be divided into three parts: glycolysis, citric acid cycle, and electron transport chain. Many pollutants can disrupt this biological process and effect organisms and ecosystems. Dioxin is a very toxic compound usually produced as a byproduct from industrial waste sometimes in the form of pesticides or herbicide, which was used in Vietnam. TCDD is a commonly studied dioxin that is a mixture of chemicals found in the environment. Studies have found that humans cannot metabolize this mixture, which causes several different, harmful biological reactions. TCDD is a direct side product of burning organic materials. As we are living in a cold period in the history of the earth s climate, small temperature changes are attributed to increased levels of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. One easily observed example is Emperor penguins, residents of the shores and ice shelves of Antarctica. The ones residing on the northern coast of Antarctica are prone to ice melting, due to the increasing temperatures in the spring which shorten the ice season. Those on the southern coast are of least concern due to the fact that the temperature there fluctuates less drastically. Regarding the penguins nesting places, immense ice sheets are essential for them to hatch and raise chicks; during the ice season, Emperor penguins march 60 100 miles to their rookery around May, where they lay, incubate, and hatch their eggs. Usually, the chicks begin fledging about December and the adults leave. However, if the ice season is shorter due to warmer temperatures, the ice breaks earlier. Before the baby penguins can fully fledge and retain waterproof and swimming capabilities, the only habitat they know is swallowed into the ocean. Then, the immature chicks, unable to swim, are swept into the sea where they drown. The quintessential nesting grounds of Emperor penguins allow for expansion of their species. After all, predation by leopard seals and killer whales naturally reduces the population, and they must repopulate to sustain.
