Mongol Trial
In this trial we witnessed how the Mongol empire affected the lives of people in Eurasia. As a jury
member of the trail of Genghis Khan, I have decided that the mongols were civilized due to the
religious tolerance, advancements and stimulation of trade.
There was a common theme on the prosecuting side of lack of religious tolerance from the mongols,
but the witness testimonies were circumstantial to a specific region or rule. It is inevitable for soldiers
and generals to force people to join their own religion, but that does not take away from the overall
religious tolerance of the mongols and their predecessors talked about. There was Buddhist and
Muslims in the upper class positions that were kept strictly for the mongols disproving this ... Show

The philosopher also spoke of Genghis Khan s building of colleges and buildings to support the
collaboration of ideas and thought this would improve the rate of advancements. The ability for the
mongol to effectively build infrastructure and gather philosophers proves the civility of their empire.
The last major point of the defence was the stimulation of trade caused by the mongols. A merchant
talked about the increase of trade in Eurasia. There was an undeniable influx of trade in Asia that was
directly caused by the mongol rule, this was caused by the mongols reopening or revitalizing of the
silk trade routes and the spending of the major mongolian wealth to increase trade through western
Europe and Asia. The revitalizing of trade is evidence that the mongols were civilized to properly
improve the trade routes and protection on the trade routes.
The prosecution also had a good point on the mongolian viciousness and unrelenting destruction of
cities and the murder of the innocent civilians does play a role the mongols being uncivilized. But
many other empires such as the Roman empire killed many but were classified as civilized. After this
long and hard fought trail I have decided in favor of the

Essay on Racism in American History X
American History X is clearly a film dealing with racism. The interesting thing about this film is the
way in which the subject is treated. First of all, it is obvious that, though racism is always a difficult
subject to deal with, American History X presents it without any reservations or dumming down.
Second, the film s figurehead for racism, Derek Vinyard (Edward Norton), is not an unintelligent
redneck racist as films often portray them, but is in fact well spoken, charismatic and intelligent,
although he clearly holds ideals that are terribly wrong. Finally, the film shows that it is not just the
white, neo nazi racists who are fools to be involved in this, but all racism is foolish. Through these
methods, the film shows the viewer, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Derek s time in prison shows the results of this terrible way of life, and from the moment he takes off
his shirt in the outdoor workout area, revealing his huge swastika tattoo to the other neo nazi inmates,
he becomes involved in another horrible situation, resulting in his being raped in the showers when
things go wrong. Perhaps the most tragic scene of the film is also its most effective in delivering to the
audience, the emotional destruction that racism can cause. When Danny at the end of the film is shot
repeatedly by a black student he had previously pissed off, Derek runs into the school, finds his
brother dead, and his life and the lives of his family are changed forever.
What makes Derek such a powerful and frightening character is not the fact that he is racist, it is the
fact that instead of choosing a somewhat regular, backwoods, unintelligent racist as the films central
character, Derek is well spoken and bright. It is these qualities that allow him to recruit the youths of
Venice Beach and form, with the help of his mentor Cameron Alexander, the entire white supremacist
culture permeating the area. Instead of just telling them to hate black, hispanic, asian people because
they are of that race, he makes speeches, telling them charismatically and passionately how these
people are stealing their jobs, causing Americans to suffer a poor standard of living. He tells them
America needs to take care of Americans

Politics And The Effect In George Orwell s Writing
Politics and the effect in writing
Orwell s statement that language becomes ugly and inaccurate because our thoughts are foolish, but
the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish, but the slovenliness of our
language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts in fact is true in our language in more recent
times because of various uses such as propaganda and other techniques such as glittering generalities,
transfer, card stacking, the band wagon. Although these effect writing and one s opinions, other
powerful technique authors may use in writing include effective word choice and text along with
photographs in political cartoons. Through today s language, once politics are involved, one tends to
become ugly and even foolish at times.
How does one detect propaganda? Although this question is complex, and difficult to end at one
conclusion, there are ways that a reader can indeed detect propaganda. Many of today s authors often
try and influence what the reader is reading and in many cases in a political way. We are fooled by
propaganda chiefly because we don t recognize it when we see it ( How to Detect 756). In addition,
this technique can be used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be defined as a device in which the propagandist employs all the arts of deception to win our
support for himself, his group, nation, race, policy, practice, belief, or ideal ( How to Detect 758). This
is an example of how when in context of politics are thoughts can be seen as ugly and foolish. Instead
of speaking the truth, the speaker may decide to discuss what the people want to hear in order to gain
support because one major part of politics is having support. Because of this politicians can be seen as
sneaky and contaminated because they will do everything they can to win. Hence the reason many
individuals have a lack of trust for

Fujimori s Corruption Of Democracy As A Presidential Republic
Presidential Republic Peru has undergone a significant shift in politics and has recently returned to
democracy. Today, Peru is a presidential republic with more significant levels of horizontal and
vertical accountability (Central Intelligence Agency, 2017). Peru s current president is Pedro Pablo
Kuczynski, who was elected to office in 2016 and will finish his term in 2021 (U.S. Department of
State, 2017). However, Peru s adoption of democracy is a recent event. According to Vergara and
Watanabe (2016), the first fifteen years of the twenty first century were arguably the most democratic
in Peru s history (p. 148). Prior to Peru s recent adoption of democracy, Peru was ruled by the
authoritarian president Alberto Fujimori (Vergara ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A group known as the technocrats, which is politically insulated, has been given credit for efficiently
managing the economy of Peru (Vergara Watanabe, 2016). Many of Peru s political parties are in a
rebuilding phase and there is no single party with a major influence in the region. For example, in the
most recent election Fuerza Popular gained 36.34 percent of the vote and retained 71 of the 130
congressional seats (Central Intelligence Agency, 2017). According to Vergara and Encinas (2016),
Peru s political class tends to be weak and political parties do not receive a significant percentage of
the vote; elected authorities have short tenures; and political vehicles and their leaders are
disconnected from social bases (p. 159). Legal Forces The civil law legal system instituted by the
Fujimori administration in 1993 remains in place (Vergara Encinas, 2016). Peru s legal system consist
of a supreme court and a variety of subordinate courts. As a presidential republic, Peru s Supreme
Court consists of 16 judges, which are further subdivided into civil, criminal, and constitutional
district courts (Central Intelligence Agency, 2017). Supreme Court justices are nominated by the
president and confirmed by congress in a similar fashion as the U.S. Supreme Court s justices. Each
Supreme Court justice is appointed for life or until they reach the age of 70 (Central Intelligence

The Effects Of Leadership Style On Organizational Performance
Leadership style in an organization is one of the reasons that play a major role in attracting or hold
back the commitment and interest of the individuals in the business. Therefore a manager needs to
determine his leadership style, as it is one with the most energetic effects during individual and
organizational relations.
Different researches:
Leadership style has a considerable relation with the organizational performance, and different
leadership styles may have a positive or negative link with the organizational performance. A research
was done by Sun(2002) compared the leadership style with the leadership performance in enterprises
and school, and showed that the leadership style has a lot of positive correlation with the
organizational performance in both .Generally speaking that leadership performance is identical with
the organizational performance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Campbell (1977) reflected that when managers use their leadership style to concern, respect and care

Religion vs. Nature in Wallace Stevens “Sunday Morning”...
Wallace Stevens Sunday Morning illustrates the battle between choosing religion or not. The
Christianity faith puts you in a constant ritual of Sunday church. The woman decided to take a Sunday
off to relax and take in the nature. While sitting on a Sunday morning and indulging in a late
breakfast, she is overwhelmed with guilt of not attending church. Complacencies of the peignoir, and
late, Coffee and oranges in a sunny chair (line 1 2).
Wallace uses imagery of the everyday world around as a way to show how we sometimes don t take
time out for nature. The woman may not have really paid much attention to her surroundings due to
her ritual of going to church all the time. Is she wrong for wanting to see life from the window of ...

Elations when the forest blooms, gusty: (line 26). In mythology we gave reverence to nature around
us. Does that not exist anymore now that we have religion? As she begins to try an understand the
magnificent things around her, she must come back to what has been taught to her that the Shall our
blood fail? Or shall it come to be the blood of paradise (line 39 40) Jesus died for our sins. She
remembers that life has pain and labor and we need Jesus who died for us to save us.
She says, I am content when wakened birds, before they fly, test the reality . This can be interpreted as
being able to see the world before religion. The reality of life gives you good and bad times so it s best
to test life before you make hard decisions that you have to live with until you leave this earth. When
you finally enter the world of religion, is paradise there? Wallace tries to answer these questions as he
allows this woman to interpret what she sees on her day of rest from church. While resting she is
moved emotionally because she feels the need for some imperishable bliss. Beauty and death in this
poem can be understood as her desires to be beautiful until your time of death approaches. Stanford
said that Beauty and Death [were] looked upon as sisters by the Romantics ... a beauty of which, the
more bitter the taste, the more abundant the enjoyment.

relationship of recent alcohol use, binge drinking (past 30 days) and authoritative parenting among
Hispanic youth (Merianos, King, Vidourek, Nabors, 2015). The study unit of analysis was Hispanic
youth s ages ranging from 12 to 17 years of age. The participants of the study completed surveys in
the privacy of their own homes. Merianos, King, Vidourek, Nabors (2015) results indicates a total of

Queens and the remainder lives in the Bronx as shown in figure 3.
Design and Data Collection Method
To answer the research question or test the hypothesis, a quantitative study was design to determine
the relationship between parenting styles and alcohol use among adolescences. In this research, we
identified the different instruments needed to collect the data on a sample of participants. Also, the
validity ( credibility) and reliability ( dependability) test were researched for both instrument. The
reliability was also analyzed using the SPSS software to determine the instruments dependability in
this study.
Parental Authority Questionnaire
One appropriate method for answering the research question or testing the hypothesis is the Parental
Authority Questionnaire (PAQ). PAQ was created by John R. Buri. The PAQ is a 30 item instrument
design to measure parental authority, or disciplinary practices, from the point of view of the child (of
any age) (Corcoran, Fischer, 2000). This questionnaire comprises of a five point Likert type items

Meares-Irlen Syndrome Analysis
Imagine seeing everything in blue? In November 2015 I was officially diagnosed with Meares Irlen
Syndrome. I was prescribed blue/turquoise tinted glasses and for everything to be printed on blue
paper. This has had a large impact on my life as I struggle to read anything that is not in blue unless I
want to strain my eyes, and obviously, everything is not going to be printed on blue paper. This has
impacted my life for the worse as through confidence issues I find it difficult to ask people to print my
work in blue for me.
Meares Irlen Syndrome is an incurable form of visual stress which mainly affects people with
dyslexia. Meares Irlen Syndrome was discovered in 1980 by New Zealand teacher, Olive Meares and
American psychologist Helen Irlen. In 1983, Irlen wrote a paper about how overlays can help aid
people when reading, she named this Scotopic Sensitivity . Although personally, I do not have

as I felt different and isolated from others. It was also a relief to finally know what was wrong with
my eyes although it has knocked my confidence and I do not feel comfortable wearing my glasses in
public. Having a lack of confidence whilst wearing the glasses is difficult as sometimes it affects my
work as I am too focused on what other people are thinking. This is a problem that I am going to have

inflict a heavy cost. The authors continue by positing a dilemma that sounds nearly identical to Adler .
They assert that terrorists use a strategy of provocation that is designed to induce a violent response,
which will in turn radicalize population and lead to them supporting the terrorists.
Additionally, John Mueller lambasts what he labels as the socially constructed terrorist industry, which
he attacks for artificially inflating concerns over terrorist attacks. Instead, Mueller confirms that the
damage caused by terrorism is not materially significant but stems primarily from the fear that it
creates. Violent retaliation is viewed as a form of self flagellation that provides the terrorists with
exactly what they want. As mentioned, realist definitions of power, self interest and rationality lack
explanatory prowess when non state actors are able to subvert states thanks largely in part to the use of
suicide terrorism. The proliferation of terrorist groups and their use of suicide tactics in many ways
defies realist expectations and conclusions.

states do not share a common anti terror framework. Any variations in response to the damned

America s Downward Spiral Summary
America s Downward Spiral
In recent years, the economy in the United States has been in what most would see as a recession.
American people differ in the way they react to a recession. Some, such as Michael Moore, feel it
becomes a downward spiral as big business and it s stockholders gain more money and power, and it s
workers gain less money and stability.
With a loss of stability for the American worker there is a fear of losing their health benefits, social
security, pension plan, and most of all, their job. Moore s reaction to this big business take over was to
create several documentaries, Roger and Me, Pets or Meat: The Return to Flint, and The Big One.
Along with Moore s reaction to this recession there were several ... Show more content on

Nike owns factories in Indonesia where they pay their workers forty cents an hour. Johnson Controls
moved from Milwaukee to Mexico, because a half million dollar profit in three years was not enough
for them, they wanted to increase their profit further. (Moore)
As these large companies downsize and close they push hundreds of people out of jobs. This forces
middle class to live below the standards they had been so accustomed to, this is a term not many are
familiar with called downward mobility. This was outlined by Katherine Newman as she wrote about
David Patterson who had a very stable career in the computer industry and one day lost it and was
unable to find work. This forced the family to move from their nice neighborhood to an apartment.
Broke and distressed beyond imagining, the family found a small apartment in a modest section of a
nearby town. (Newman) This being the light side of what happens to those forced out of work unable
to find a new job. Jo Goodwin Parker shares her life story, the ultimate low, poverty. Poverty means
insects in your food, in your nose, in your eyes, and crawling over you when you sleep. (Parker)
Poverty and downward mobility are unfortunately not the only problems striking the American
working class. It is fact that some jobs are simply not needed anymore. That of the laborer is just
depleting. Some might even call it a dying breed (LaFevre 1) Mike LaFevre is part of the working
class that labors day in and

Soon after, Travis County DA Rosemary Lehmberg contacted Harle to request an appointment. The

During a hearing in Georgetown ten days later, he provided a sealed transcript of the conversation to

Organizational Culture And Leadership Of A Team
Every working individual adhere to vison or a cognitive norm of Organizational culture and holds
some positive or a negative opinion about their leader. The organizational culture and role of a leader
in a team go hand in hand to accomplish the goal of the organization and extract the potential of every
employee in that organization. Therefore, it is essential for an organization of any size to have a
positive organizational culture and select team leaders that can lead its employees. In a general sense
of a corporate organization, a team leader is the person to whom everyone in your team reports to and
takes guidelines on how to perform their job. The achievement of the goal of any organization
depends on the effectiveness of role that particular leader plays, how he manages his team and most
essentially how the leader influences their member to achieve the goals of the company. However, a
leader can come in any walk of life, be it in a NGO who is working towards preservation of
environment, elected official in political circle, or a quarterback who can choreograph the team to
victory. And a sign of great team leadership, is the role the leader plays by envisioning out of the box
solutions and influencing great results from his team. Time and again, research into the effectiveness
of role of leadership has proved that leaders are and essential factor in the dynamics of company and
play a critical role in the success and fortunes of any organization. Take the current

Camera Angles In Edward Scissorhands
Camera techniques is a very general aspect of cinema that covers all movements, lens , angles, and
shot types a camera can ascribe to. For example, the camera angle can establish the mood and tone of
a sequence, with the application of high camera angles depicting characters as exposed. Furthermore,
camera movement comprises of zooming, panning, tilting, and tracking as a way of producing
emotion and compelling viewers. Camera lens spans from telephoto to wide angle and gives to the
tone and appearance of the movie. Finally, shot types can include long shot, extra long shot, close up,
extra close up, and point of view, and form circumstance of the characters in their settings amid that
moment in the plot. In Edward Scissorhands, director Tim Burton relies upon a bevy of different
camera angles to capture Edward as an assailable protagonist, alone and existing as separate from
community.
Tim Burton uses creative and sometimes cramped camera angles to convey the primary concepts of
aloneness and self discovery, in addition to augmenting the veiled themes of societal homogeneity and
discrimination, to the audience. This perception is suggested all through the movie through the
director s use of high angle panoramic shots of the unvarying suburbia and long shots of ... Show more

Symptoms And Treatment Of Gout
1. Gout (Acute, Active)
a) Differentials: Gout, Rheumatoid Arthitis, Plantar Fasciitis
b) Plan: Prescribed Colchicine (Colcrys) 0.6 mg tablet for 10 days, to reduce joint inflammation
related to gout flares.
c) Education: A preventive gout flare diet includes one that is low purine, low protein, alcohol
restricted diet. Gout is influenced by dietary factors that lead to an increase in purines, such as red
meat and shellfish, alcohol, and caffeinated beverages. Avoidance of these dietary factors may reduce
gouty flares. An alcohol restricted diet is imperative because alcohol consumption closely correlates
with hyperuricemia leading to a gout attack. B.B. should be made aware that excessive joint
movement might increase inflammation, whereas rest of affected joints may support resolution of
pain. Cold compresses may also be beneficial to treatment of gout attacks. Patient should be
recommended to exercise regularly and drink plenty of water, leading to lower the concentration of
uric acid.

Gout is an arthritic disease caused by buildup of uric acid in the body. Normally, the liver processes

The Great Flood Of 1889
Also known as the Great Flood of 1889, the Johnstown flood occurred when a local man made dam
failed, unleashing millions of gallons of water and causing utter destruction in its wake.
On May 31st, 1889, at around 3:10 p.m., about 14 miles from Johnstown, PA, the South Fork Dam
was overcome by several structural shortcomings and failed. This allowed millions of gallons of water
to surge through the Conemaugh Valley, leaving little in its wake (NPS).
There were a total of 111 days of rainfall within the year preceding the dam s failure. This level of
rainfall was very unusual for the community of Johnstown, let alone the entire state of Pennsylvania.
Just before the dam broke, 6 8 inches of rain had fallen throughout the region, turning ... Show more

These changes had disastrous effects on the structure of the dam (ASDSO).
As large amount of rain fell, debris began to collect in the mesh netting, contributing to rising water
levels, as the spillway was blocked (ASDSP).
The lack of an underlying water relief system, as the previous one had not been replaced after the
reconstruction, increased the pressure of the reservoir (ASDSO).
The pressure of the added volume compromised the structure of the dam and it overtopped. The
structure was overcome and the dam burst (ASDSO).
Due to the nature of this dam break, the water traveled at high velocity estimated at 64 km/hr or about
40 mph (National Geographic).
The average amount of water discharged was around 318,000 cubic feet per second (JAHA).
The flood killed approximately 2,209 people. This included 396 children and 99 local families (Begos,
2014).
As many as 750 corpses remained in river towns downstream and Johnstown morgues awaiting family
identification, which never happened (Begos, 2014).
1,600 homes were lost and whole communities were swept away (Begos, 2014).
Trains were dislodged from their tracks and were swept downstream about 4,000 feet (JFM, 2013).

Deception In A Scandal In Bohemia
Wit is defined as mental sharpness or inventiveness. In the Victorian age, women were supposed to be
inferior to men which is why this story is intriguing. In the short story , A Scandal In Bohemia , Conan
uses the character Irene to portray how deception in one s character is commonly overlooked, even by
people who think there is nobody better than themselves.
During the Victorian era, there were gender and class issues. These play a huge part in A Scandal In
Bohemia . Conan wrote this story around the late 1800s and early 1900s. In England, men were
considered the man of the house, and women were to stay at home. Also, princes were to marry royal
and not break the royal bloodline. That was their standards.
Holmes is too smart for his own good. He could never love anyone more than he loves his work.
While his best friend, Watson, is very social and outgoing, ...Holmes...loathes every form of society
with his whole Bohemian soul... (Doyle 3). Holmes did more observing than creating real
relationships with people because he sees through everyone, and nobody deems worthy in his eyes.

Is Stop And Frisk Worth It Analysis
What does every society that has ever existed hold in common? The answer: surveillance, was, or is, a
part of it. Since the first recorded civilizations, different methods have been used to influence ways of

Darell Miller Observation
My clinical observation took place at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, Texas
involving a mini mitral valve replacement procedure. This location is not a teaching institution,
therefore there are no clinical instructors nor students. The acting perfusionist in the procedure was
Darell Miller under the direction of cardiothoracic surgeon Neeland Doolabh M.D.
The circuit setup consisted of a closed system produced by Medtronic. It included a Biofinity
oxygenator, soft shell venous reservoir bag, 3/8 inch arterial line by 1/2 inch venous line AV loop, as
well as a Myotherm cardioplegia set. Plasmalyte A was the priming solution of choice for this
procedure. Other main system equipment involved in this procedure included a Bioconsole ... Show

During the procedure, the heart was arrested using a single dose of Del Nido cardioplegia solution.
During the time of initial arrest, the surgeon stepped back and watched the heart. During this time, it
seemed as if the patient s heart wasn t the only thing being stopped, but the entire world as well.
Everyone in the room waited, watching the EKG, the patient, the patient s heart as well as the
perfusionist. This seemed to me as a very interesting approach, but due to the delicate precision and
vitality associated with this crucial time, it seemed very understandable. As Darell was on pump, it
seemed as if he was in the zone but completely aware of any changes and all surroundings. He was a
man with a mission. He stuck to protocols running ACTs, Charting, and assessing patient status the
entire procedure. He was constantly performing sweeps of all equipment and monitors during the
entire procedure, and if there were any changes he knew about them and reacted accordingly. His
multitasking abilities shined greatly during the operation. A specific moment that stood out to me was
his ability to recognize when an ACT was completed without turning around to look at the machine as
well as continuing to monitor everything necessary to continue a successful pump run. Their group ran
ACTs in the room on a Hepcon located on the perfusion cart in their own corner of the room, which
was also the same side that they pumped on. In their wheeling chairs, they would roll back and forth
running heparin assays and ACTs and then be back within no time to continue their duties. The only
test that required assistance were blood gases which were carried about by another member of the
perfusion team in the sub sterile room correlating to each

The Grandmother Deception
Everyone is out for themselves... this is how the grandmother character was. The grandmother only
cared about herself, herself and if there was a little more room it would be herself. However, this
deception might be deceived when she tells her son that she wouldn t take my children in any
direction with a criminal like that aloose in it. I couldn t answer to my conscience if I did. As the story
progresses we see how the grandmother did not only led them to the criminal on the loose but also did
not show any mercy towards her own blood and only try to save herself.
The most important feature for the grandmother was for other individuals to know she was a lady,
which is humorous, due to the fact that besides appearance, she was everything but a lady. The
grandmother is not only selfish because she wants to manipulate Bailey to go to Tennessee, but also
when she directed them to the plantation she had visited when she was younger, knowing it would
delay them and knowing Bailey did not want to make extra stops; furthermore, causing the accident
and hoping she was injured to avoid repercussions. In addition, we can see what kind of lady she is
when she tells The Misfit that he wouldn t shoot a lady , as well as offering her soon to be dead sons
clothes to his murder. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Slave System By Solomon Northup
The slave system was kept in existence for many years since the early 1600 s. A never ending cycle of
pain, and harsh conditions From being in 12 years of slavery, Solomon Northup recounts the time
when he had once been a free man to be kidnapped of that freedom back in 1841. The relationships
that Northup encountered were neither positive or negative . From friends he gained or his slave
masters, the relationships were shaped by slavery and helped intact the slave system. In those
relationships, how the supervisors of the slaves treated them impacted the slaves work ethic and the
friendships that were made during this harsh time, thus supporting the slave system. One of the first
social relationship Solomon encountered when he entered slavery was James H. Burch. When
Solomon was captured, Burch chained him up and put him in a cell; something Solomon was not used
to at all. Although he claimed he was a free man, Burch beat him every time he said he was, and
forcing Solomon to say he was from Georgia. Burch frightened Solomon with his beatings and
threatening words and because of how cruel Burch was, Solomon kept his mouth shut and refused to
say he was a free man to any of his future slave masters, fearing of the treatment again. With James
Burch treating the slaves in that matter; implemented to the system of slavery, forcing the slaves to
become who they wanted them to be. That allowed slaves to follow orders, and not to protest against
the supervisor s treatment,

Feminism In Angela Carter
Angela Carter does not speak of a Feminism that succumbs to patriarchal pressure. She allows certain
cracks and fissures to become visible in patriarchal structure and roles. Her treatment of the characters
and situations is notably ambitious. Her reworking of myths and weaving of imaginary situations
evoke ideas of liberation and changes. Carter s female heroes in The Passion of New Eve and Nights
at the Circus are not merely victims of sexual harassment or rape. They are masculine females able to
pose a challenge to all patriarchal norms. Both these novels provide Carter opportunities to redefine
masculinity. She succeeds in crediting her female protagonists with strong degree of autonomy and in
making her male protagonists convincingly drawn human beings. Carter s imaginary flights to worlds
where women are installed as beings of power are prophetic in every sense. Both Fevvers and the New
Eve are symbolic representations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To ensure the safe and free future of women, she deconstructs the myth of the creation of Eve. The
events treated in the novel take place in an unspecified future when urban civilization is on the verge
of collapse. The man named Evelyn regards women as inferior, treating them as sex objects. He is
involved in a torrid love affair with the black prostitute Leilah. But he is duly punished by the
feminists. He is captured by band feminist guerilla fighters who deliver him up to their leader mother,
a parodic portrait of matriarchal superwoman (Contemporary Women s Fiction 18). The Mother of
Beulah is certainly a representation of the revengeful and powerful superwoman that Carter envisages

very clearly suggests that it id men, not women, who require liberating from the tyranny of gender

Apology On The Book Apology
The book Apology begins with Socrates making a short speech in which he defends his innocence. He
was on trial because of the two Later charges against him. Corrupting the youth and disbelief in
Athenian gods were among the charges. Before he began his speech, he made it clear to the judges that
he is not familiar with the court system and also that it s his first time in court so that he will be
speaking in his usual manner . His accusers warned the judges that he has a great persuasive power.
However, Socrates insisted that he makes no claim of being so persuasive in his speeches. He stated to
the judges that, he doesn t exaggerate or give false information to mislead them. He told the judges
that, his accusers should be ashamed for even suggesting that he would mislead them by the force of
his persuasive skills. Socrates insisted, the only type of eloquent language he will use will be truth. He
asked the judges to deliver justice and justice only, and to avoid considering his manner of speech.
Socrates presented two arguments to defend himself from the charges. Socrates accusation started
even before he was present for his first trial in court. One of the older accusation was based on people
s assumption that he flew on the clouds and thought Philosophy. (Commentary on Plato s
Apology of Socrates) Socrates pointed out how Aristophanes in his comedy play depicted Socrates as
a super human that could walk on the air. He stated the play was exaggerated and has given

How Is The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber
Set on an African Safari in the early 1900s, Ernest Hemingway s The Short Happy Life of Francis
Macomber tells the story of a young man and wife, Francis and Margot Macomber, and their English
guide, Robert Wilson, on a hunting trip gone awry. This essay will show how Hemingway s character
tied into the story itself.
Francis Macomber is described as very tall, very well built... and considered handsome (Hemingway).
He and his wife, Margot, clearly do not have a very healthy relationship, and on various occasions she
flirts heavily with Wilson. This story is quite ironic, as in the title it says Francis Macomber s life was
happy, though throughout the story you can see that it very much isn t. He seems to be miserable in his
relationship with his wife but as later on stated, Margot was too beautiful for Macomber to divorce,
and Macomber had too much money for Margot to ever leave him (Hemingway). On the topic of
irony, it can also be seen as ironic when he is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Macomber felt utter disgust for Wilson. Every time Wilson spoke, Macomber threw back daggers for
words. It annoyed Wilson, for he was unphased by the fact that Macomber knew Wilson had been with
his wife. He ignored Macomber s harsh words so they could go hunting for the buffalo. As they drove
out, Macomber spotted three large buffalo. Wilson told him, We ll cut them off before they get to the
swamp. They both got their guns ready, where Macomber almost began to shoot from his position in
the car before being shouted at by Wilson. They jumped out of the vehicle as it came to a bolting stop,
aimed, and began shooting. Macomber struck the first one down, and with the help of Wilson,
eventually the other two. Margot was awe struck, telling Macomber how marvelous he had done.
Macomber felt a wild unreasonable happiness that he had never known before (Hemingway).

Intriguing Use of Plot in William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily
The plotline of standard narratives would most aptly be diagramed as a triangle, with the rising action
on one side, the falling action on the other side, and the climax marking the angle at the apex. The
diagram of the plotline of William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, however, would look like a simple
line with a positive slope. The story s chronology is abandoned in favor of a simpler and more
effective geometry. Faulkner discards the method of unfolding events in the order of their occurrence.
Instead, he raises tension in the reader and creates a climate of curiosity through revealing events in
ascending order of intrigue. The beginning of Faulkner s story is the ... Show more content on

Faulkner continues moving backward through time, introducing yet another glimpse into Miss Emily s
past. He shifts attention from the efforts of one generation to the efforts of the previous one, telling the
reader that Miss Emily had vanquished them, horse and foot, just as she had vanquished their fathers
thirty years before about the smell (76). Faulkner mentions the death of Miss Emily s father and Miss
Emily s abandonment by her former sweetheart, providing explanation for Miss Emily s reclusive
nature. This begins to explain why Miss Emily s house smelled of dust and disuse (75). Faulkner now
starts to tie events together by traveling backward chronologically, while at the same time moving the
story forward. Continuing to walk the reader backward through the years, Faulkner offers up more
background of the events previously explained. After the reader learns of Miss Emily s father s
controlling nature and her problems with men, Faulkner then takes the reader forward to Miss Emily s
handling of her father s death. Treating her denial of her father s death and her denial of her father in
general as unavoidable, Faulkner again makes subtle reference to the future: We did not say she was
crazy then (77). The reader is left to wonder why Faulkner uses the word then at the end of that
sentence. Will the people of the town later declare Miss Emily crazy? This question of Miss Emily s
sanity is soon answered. Until this

North America And South America
Both North and South Americas span across many latitudes. This means that they experience many
different climates. North America is very wide and experiences continentality. South America is more
narrow and does not experience the same level of continentality. Both Americas have rain shadow
effect in their south west. They have desert areas created by this rain shadow. South America has a
huge tropical area that North America does not experience, but South America does not have an arctic
area like North America.
The physical geography of the Americas has lots to do with where the population densities are located.
These locations are also heavily rooted in colonialism. When the first settlers arrived in the Americas
the set up trading posts and small communities along the coasts. In areas that were good for growing
crops, the would bring slaves from africa to work the farms growing these resources for the European
states. (Demos, 2013) The population distribution has as much to do with colonialism as the Physical
geography. Whether they were called Native Americans, First Nations or Amerindian the people who
inhabited these lands in the pre Christopher Columbus times were often forced off their lands and onto
land deemed undesirable to the European colonist. The Europeans also brought many people of
African descent to the Americas as slave labor. While times have changed and both descendants of
blacks and natives are free and able to move around at their will, their

The Effects Of Media On Body Weight And Disordered Eating

The culture in America sends a very powerful message to women. 1 A woman s sense of self esteem is
dependent upon her perceived attractiveness to the opposite sex, and body weight plays an increasing
importance in whether she is considered physically attractive, Media has a significant impact on body
weight and disordered eating. This one time isolated syndrome of eating disorders is now emerging as
a place of importance in our society. Rhetorical Purpose: 2 One reason it is so important to understand
how the rhetoric of popular media coverage of anorexia articles maintains women s marginalization is
that The American Anorexia and Bulimia Association [AABA] (2001) estimates that five million U.S.
women suffer from some form of eating disorder, 15 percent of Americans have eating disordered
attitudes, and 1,000 people will die each year from eating disorders. Redemptive Purpose: God

Part 1: Clarifying an Argument
State the argument you find in Passage 1 in explicit premise and conclusion form.
PASSAGE 1:
(P1) Every event must have a cause.
(P2) An infinite series of events is inconceivable.
(P3) There must be a first cause.
(C1) The first cause must have at least been the originator of the universe.
(C2) The first cause is God.
PASSAGE 2: Nagel s Counterargument
(P1) Positing the existence of a first cause does not explain away the infinite regression of events.
(P2) If God is self caused, then there are no limits to what can be self caused.
(P3) If everything must have a cause, so must God.
(C1) The existence of the world and the vast matrix of events that occur every day do not necessitate
the existence of a prime mover, or creator (or God). Part 2: Clarifying an Objection to an Argument
State in your own words and as concisely as possible what you take Nagel s objection in Passage 2 to
mean. Your task is not only to explain Nagel s words but also to show how they bear on the argument
in Passage 1. What is it, exactly, about the argument that Nagel is objecting to, which premise or
inference does he reject?
I believe Nagel is saying that if every event must have a cause, the infinite chain of events presumably
necessitated by this logic in fact follows, assuming one s acceptance of the mathematical concept of
infinity. Ergo, there does not have to be a God or even a first cause, as the cosmological argument

Extraterrestrial Life Or Alien Life
For a long time, there has been a dispute on whether or not extraterrestrial life or alien life exists. The
discovery may not be in the near future, but it is more than likely to happen. Someday we might be
able to identify a planet and say that it is just like Earth. Finding life outside of Earth is within reach.
Extraterrestrial life is not a myth and there are many reasons why such as evidence from National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), discovery of Earth like planets that orbit a sunlike
star, and discoveries on planets closer to Earth. Many scientists believe that we are one of many
species in the universe that exist on more planets than just Earth. It would be silly if someone did not
believe that there is life on some of the billions of planets to exist in our galaxy alone. NASA has
found evidence of another potential solar system. This is a collection of stars orbiting around a single
star and is located around 39 light years from Earth. Nasa s telescope team said it had found a system
of seven planets that were all similar in size to Earth (Gaffey). The planets formed farther out from
Trappist 1 and then moved inward. This makes it more likely that they could contain some form of
water. Volatile compounds (molecules that easily turn to gas) like water are usually concentrated
further out in star systems. The fourth, fifth, and six planets orbit in the star s habitable zone so they
are particularly likely to have liquid water on their surface. This

the stress of the situation and losing one of the three teenagers as they wake up they ve disappeared.
This role was clear and believable but didn t work very well as women are still seen as being protected
by the men like in all the scream films there is a woman as a stereotypical type victim.
Propp s theory applies to this film the villain or malefactor being the Blair witch, there is no hero as
the characters end in their bloody deaths in a small house, the donor is the sources from the locals
about the Blair witch, the princess is the three teenagers, the false hero is the girl as she tries but fails,
the Blair witch is also the dispatcher. This theory clearly shows that the teenagers seek to where they

Russian Formalism And The Hero
The title hero has been around for a long time. There are many things that can pop into a person s head
when the word hero is said. Within Russian formalism, there is the idea of structures and perceptions
within literature. The time, place, historical movement, and author, can change the perceptions of a
novel or even how it is written. Stories have been around since people started to communicate. Stories
or myths were used to teach lessons, for entertainment, or to keep history alive. There have always
been different types of stories that people would talk about. One type of story that has been around for
a long time is the story of heroes. The stories started out having hidden lessons within the stories. To
fully understand the archetype, or structure, of the hero quest Russian formalism will be discussed.
With understanding Russian formalism, it then will be connected to the hero quest structure. The hero
quest structure will then be broken down to be explained. To better understand the hero quest the
French novel, Kiffe Kiffe Tomorrow by Faïza Guène will be analyzed using this structure. Following
the concepts of Russian formalism, novels can be classified through the hero quest structure
influencing the perceptions of the works.
Russian formalism is a mixture of symbolism theory mixed with linguistic theory. But, with formalism
studies are more scientific and objective than that of symbolist theory. Russian formalism is a type of

Stock Exchange BSE (Bristol Stock Exchange) is virtual financial exchange which is based on limit
order book (LOB). It is developed in Python by Cliff[21] for teaching purposes and is less
complicated than the real market financial exchanges in various ways like although traders can issue a
new order at any point of time in the limit order book, but they can only have single order at that time.
Also as currently configured, zero latency is assumed by BSE in communications between the traders
and the exchange. Moreover, if any transaction is performed by any trader (i.e., alteration in LOB by
issuing an order), all other traders also receives an updated LOB before issuing any further orders (or
any further transaction). 4.1.1 Traders in BSE BSE has various robot traders that may be as
fundamental as the giveaway that may or may not makes the profit or as elaborate as ZIP, which
generates profit. These traders found in BSE are discussed below. Giveaway: This robot

Comparing Seated Statue Of Memi And Sabu
I cannot speak as to how well written this essay will end up, but in it, I will attempt to examine two
sculptures, the Statue of Memi and Sabu an Egyptian work and the Seated Statue of Gudea, which is a
Mesopotamian work.
First thing to note about both is the material, which will have some effect on the finished piece. The
Egyptian work, called The Royal Acquaintances Memi and Sabu, is carved from limestone, and there
are traces of paint on it, showing that at one time the figures may have looked much different than
they do today. The statue of Gudea, however, is made of a much harder material, called diorite, and
shows no signs of having been painted.
Given the purpose for each of these statues, I believe that the materials were chosen

Abuse of Power in Heart of Darkness and in Frankenstein
How is the abuse of power shown in two works that you have studied?
The works I have studied and will be exploring in this essay are Mary Shelly s Frankenstein and
Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness . In Frankenstein the abuse of power is most clearly exhibited by
the protagonist of the story Frankenstein himself, his abuse of power results in his isolation and could
serve as a warning to people, telling them not to play with forces that they can not control. In Heart of
Darkness , Conrad abuses his power as the author to distance himself from the novella and in a sense
absolve himself from any racist criticism the book may induce. The abuse of power is also a key
theme in the novella itself. Firstly there is a sense of hypocrisy in ... Show more content on

King Leopold was abusing his position of power to exploit the Congo for it s raw materials, it can be
said that the vivid cruel and gruesome images Conrad conveys in the book are merely mirroring the
harsh reality of the brutalisation in Africa. One could therefore conclude that due to Conrad s own
experiences in the Congo he has to tell his story through a framed narrative, as it may be too difficult
for him to share his story in the first person. Whether this was the case or not, it is clear than in Heart
of Darkness Conrad reveals the abuse of power to be ever present in the colonial age that Conrad lived
in, and he demonstrates the abuse of power as something to be wary of and to fear, as it can result in
madness.
Finally the abuse of power in the Congo also demonstrates the hypocrisy of Imperialism through the
corruption observed in the company . Before Marlow travels to the Congo itself he reveals that it was
very difficult for him to ascertain a job, which would result in his exploration of the river which had
charmed and fascinated him from childhood. It is at this point that Marlow decides to ask his aunt for
help, and she manages to get him a job, which will take him where he desires to go. This clearly
demonstrates that Marlow s abuse of power right at the beginning of the book. He then proceeds to
judge others who are abusing power when he is in the Congo. For

Taking a Look at Atomic Structure
1.INTRODUCTION:
The concept of Atom was proposed by John Dalton in 1808 to explain the laws of chemical
combination. He considered that matter is made up of indivisible atoms.all atoms of an element are
identical.Atoms are neither created nor destroyed. Atoms of different elements have different masses
and chemical properties. atoms of different elements combine in simple whole numbers to form
compounds. This concept was accepted till various eminent physicists like J.J. Thomson. Goldstein,
Rutherford, Niels Bohr and others have established the modern concept of an atom. As technology
advances , scientists are able to gather experimental evidence related to the properties of the atom. As
a result , various models of atomic structure have been suggested over the years. In this chapter we
shall discuss atomic structure based on the modern principles. In the early 1900s , J.J. Thomson came
up with a atomic model.
Soon after J.J. Thomson atomic model , Rutherford did a series of experiments with tiny radioactive
particles, known as alpha particles.he fired a gold foil with alpha particles and discovered that most of
the alpha particles passed right through the gold foil, some bounced straight back and a small number
passed through at an angle. From this experiment , he got conclusion that the atom consists of a small
positively charged dense central part is called nucleus.
In 1913 , Neils bohr proposed a planetary model of the atom . the neutrons and protons occupy a dense

A Comparison of Newspapers
A Comparison of Newspapers There are two main types of newspapers, tabloids and broadsheets. The
tabloid focuses on people and often reports on celebrities. Some types of tabloids include The People,
Daily Star, The Mirror, The Sun, News of The World and Daily Sport. Tabloid papers are usually read
by working class males as they feature many articles about females. The broadsheet however focuses
on facts and opinions. Some broadsheets include The Telegraph, Guardian, Observer and The Times.
The broadsheet is called a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both of these draw our attention to the headline. The headline is Heroes of the flood underneath the
words the flood there is a picture of the flood, this could be juxtaposition. The juxtaposition links the
word flood with the image. The sub heading, just below the headline, is a complete contrast to the
headline as the sub heading is black. At the bottom of the page there are photos of heroes and
survivors this adds to the sense of sadness, also the headline and pictures have a torn frame to give a
sense of a community split or broken. There is also a small map with a near town and a river; it is a
very basic map to show the readers the relationship between Boscastle and water. There are also 2
pictures of Boscastle, a before and after. This could be similar to the headline and sub heading with a
complete contrast or change.
The Guardian has basic presentational features with a heading in bold print, the heading says In 2
hours a seaside village was reduced to ruins next to it there is a large picture of Boscastle in ruins this
could have been juxtaposition. Apart from these two factors there are no more presentational features.
The first paragraph of the Sun article is very big and maybe

Comparing James Lapine s Into The Woods And Stephen Sondheim
We watched Into the Woods by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim. Honestly, when you said we
were going to watch a musical I thought, oh cool it s going to be like Phantom of the Opera , or High
School Musical , but it wasn t like that at all. The costumes were pretty cool and the special effects
were really awesome. I thought it was going to be really boring and dry, but there were some funny
parts. I love the way Sondheim tied the sarcasm in with the release of tension and lesions.
James Lapine wrote the book for Into the Woods he is an American stage director, filmmaker,
playwright, screenwriter, and librettist. He graduated from Franklin and Marshal College and did a
graduate study at the California Institute of the Arts. He has won many Tony Awards, and Drama Desk
Awards; he also won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and the Peabody Award. In 2010 he was inducted
into the American Theater Hall of Fame. Besides collaborating with Sondheim he also collaborated
with William Finn. Stephen Sondheim was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jack shows growth in realizing two wrongs don t make a right, stealing is wrong, and that you re never

the baby. Cinderella realized that looks can be deceiving, and that it may not be better on the other
side. They all learned to be careful what they wished for. The show is a dark musical so it has twist
and most of the play is sung where if it s a straight play it s talking. There wouldn t have been any of
the big show stopper numbers like at the end of each scene. When the witch died was a big show
stopper, and when the backer talked to his died dad. When the baker s wife sung about her affair with
Cinderella s prince it would have been a soliloquy, as well as, the songs called agony one and agony

Homelessness Of The Ozarks And Its Effect On Mental Illness
Homelessness in the Ozarks and its Effect on Mental Illness in Older Adults
Landon Green
Missouri State University
Homelessness In the Ozarks: Then to Now The issue my team chose to research and tackle was
homelessness in the Ozarks. Specifically, we wanted to look at the demographics of the issue and then
ultimately we wanted to look into the effects the issue of homelessness is having on another serious
issue, mental illness, and vice versa. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines homelessness as one
having no home or permanent place of residence. It defines mental illness as any of a broad range of
medical conditions that are marked primarily by sufficient disorganization of personality, mind, or
emotions to impair normal psychological functioning and cause marked distress or disability and that
are typically associated with a disruption in normal thinking, feeling, mood, behavior, interpersonal
interactions, or daily functioning. Some of the examples of mental illnesses given by Merriam Webster
are major depression, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, or panic disorder. The main
aspects of the issue that will be covered are the current status of the issue, the causes, current
organizations involved in finding solutions, and what more needs to be done. Looking at the status of
homelessness from the past to the present, we can see that there has been a drastic increase in the
percentage of homeless. In a 2013 Statewide Homelessness Study

As a jury member of the trail of Genghis Khan, I have decided that the mongols were civilized due to the religious tolerance, advancements and stimulation of trade. There was a common theme on the prosecuting side of lack of religious tolerance from the mongols, but the witness testimonies were circumstantial to a specific region or rule. It is inevitable for soldiers and generals to force people to join their own religion, but that does not take away from the overall religious tolerance of the mongols and their predecessors talked about. The philosopher also spoke of Genghis Khan s building of colleges and buildings to support the collaboration of ideas and thought this would improve the rate of advancements. The ability for the mongol to effectively build infrastructure and gather philosophers proves the civility of their empire. The last major point of the defence was the stimulation of trade caused by the mongols. A merchant talked about the increase of trade in Eurasia. There was an undeniable influx of trade in Asia that was directly caused by the mongol rule, this was caused by the mongols reopening or revitalizing of the silk trade routes and the spending of the major mongolian wealth to increase trade through western Europe and Asia. The revitalizing of trade is evidence that the mongols were civilized to properly improve the trade routes and protection on the trade routes. The prosecution also had a good point on the mongolian viciousness and unrelenting destruction of cities and the murder of the innocent civilians does play a role the mongols being uncivilized. • 5. Essay on Racism in American History X American History X is clearly a film dealing with racism. The interesting thing about this film is the way in which the subject is treated. First of all, it is obvious that, though racism is always a difficult subject to deal with, American History X presents it without any reservations or dumming down. Second, the film s figurehead for racism, Derek Vinyard (Edward Norton), is not an unintelligent redneck racist as films often portray them, but is in fact well spoken, charismatic and intelligent, although he clearly holds ideals that are terribly wrong. Finally, the film shows that it is not just the white, neo nazi racists who are fools to be involved in this, but all racism is foolish. Through these methods, the film shows the viewer, ... Derek s time in prison shows the results of this terrible way of life, and from the moment he takes off his shirt in the outdoor workout area, revealing his huge swastika tattoo to the other neo nazi inmates, he becomes involved in another horrible situation, resulting in his being raped in the showers when things go wrong. Perhaps the most tragic scene of the film is also its most effective in delivering to the audience, the emotional destruction that racism can cause. When Danny at the end of the film is shot repeatedly by a black student he had previously pissed off, Derek runs into the school, finds his brother dead, and his life and the lives of his family are changed forever. What makes Derek such a powerful and frightening character is not the fact that he is racist, it is the fact that instead of choosing a somewhat regular, backwoods, unintelligent racist as the films central character, Derek is well spoken and bright. It is these qualities that allow him to recruit the youths of Venice Beach and form, with the help of his mentor Cameron Alexander, the entire white supremacist culture permeating the area. Politics And The Effect In George Orwell s Writing Politics and the effect in writing Orwell s statement that language becomes ugly and inaccurate because our thoughts are foolish, but the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish, but the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts in fact is true in our language in more recent times because of various uses such as propaganda and other techniques such as glittering generalities, transfer, card stacking, the band wagon. Although these effect writing and one s opinions, other powerful technique authors may use in writing include effective word choice and text along with photographs in political cartoons. Through today s language, once politics are involved, one tends to become ugly and even foolish at times. How does one detect propaganda? Although this question is complex, and difficult to end at one conclusion, there are ways that a reader can indeed detect propaganda. They assert that terrorists use a strategy of provocation that is designed to induce a violent response, which will in turn radicalize population and lead to them supporting the terrorists. Additionally, John Mueller lambasts what he labels as the socially constructed terrorist industry, which he attacks for artificially inflating concerns over terrorist attacks. Instead, Mueller confirms that the damage caused by terrorism is not materially significant but stems primarily from the fear that it creates. Violent retaliation is viewed as a form of self flagellation that provides the terrorists with exactly what they want. As mentioned, realist definitions of power, self interest and rationality lack explanatory prowess when non state actors are able to subvert states thanks largely in part to the use of suicide terrorism. Since the first recorded civilizations, different methods have been used to influence ways of thoughts and actions, as well as to simply keep track of individuals and exert power over them. As time has progressed, so has the amount of surveillance conducted on individuals, and with it, a striking relationship corresponding to the amount of surveillance, and location on the social structure hierarchy taking place; the higher one s location is on this structure, the less surveillance they will experience. Everyone in the room waited, watching the EKG, the patient, the patient s heart as well as the perfusionist. This seemed to me as a very interesting approach, but due to the delicate precision and vitality associated with this crucial time, it seemed very understandable. As Darell was on pump, it seemed as if he was in the zone but completely aware of any changes and all surroundings. He was a man with a mission. He stuck to protocols running ACTs, Charting, and assessing patient status the entire procedure. He was constantly performing sweeps of all equipment and monitors during the entire procedure, and if there were any changes he knew about them and reacted accordingly. • 23. The Slave System By Solomon Northup The slave system was kept in existence for many years since the early 1600 s. A never ending cycle of pain, and harsh conditions From being in 12 years of slavery, Solomon Northup recounts the time when he had once been a free man to be kidnapped of that freedom back in 1841. The relationships that Northup encountered were neither positive or negative . From friends he gained or his slave masters, the relationships were shaped by slavery and helped intact the slave system. In those relationships, how the supervisors of the slaves treated them impacted the slaves work ethic and the friendships that were made during this harsh time, thus supporting the slave system. One of the first social relationship Solomon encountered when he entered slavery was James H. Burch. When Solomon was captured, Burch chained him up and put him in a cell; something Solomon was not used to at all. Although he claimed he was a free man, Burch beat him every time he said he was, and forcing Solomon to say he was from Georgia. Burch frightened Solomon with his beatings and threatening words and because of how cruel Burch was, Solomon kept his mouth shut and refused to say he was a free man to any of his future slave masters, fearing of the treatment again. Intriguing Use of Plot in William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily The plotline of standard narratives would most aptly be diagramed as a triangle, with the rising action on one side, the falling action on the other side, and the climax marking the angle at the apex. The diagram of the plotline of William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, however, would look like a simple line with a positive slope. The story s chronology is abandoned in favor of a simpler and more effective geometry. Faulkner discards the method of unfolding events in the order of their occurrence. Faulkner mentions the death of Miss Emily s father and Miss Emily s abandonment by her former sweetheart, providing explanation for Miss Emily s reclusive nature. This begins to explain why Miss Emily s house smelled of dust and disuse (75). After the reader learns of Miss Emily s father s controlling nature and her problems with men, Faulkner then takes the reader forward to Miss Emily s handling of her father s death. This one time isolated syndrome of eating disorders is now emerging as a place of importance in our society. Rhetorical Purpose: 2 One reason it is so important to understand how the rhetoric of popular media coverage of anorexia articles maintains women s marginalization is that The American Anorexia and Bulimia Association [AABA] (2001) estimates that five million U.S. women suffer from some form of eating disorder, 15 percent of Americans have eating disordered attitudes, and 1,000 people will die each year from eating disorders. The discovery may not be in the near future, but it is more than likely to happen. Someday we might be able to identify a planet and say that it is just like Earth. Finding life outside of Earth is within reach. Extraterrestrial life is not a myth and there are many reasons why such as evidence from National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), discovery of Earth like planets that orbit a sunlike star, and discoveries on planets closer to Earth. Many scientists believe that we are one of many species in the universe that exist on more planets than just Earth. It would be silly if someone did not believe that there is life on some of the billions of planets to exist in our galaxy alone. NASA has found evidence of another potential solar system. This is a collection of stars orbiting around a single star and is located around 39 light years from Earth. Nasa s telescope team said it had found a system of seven planets that were all similar in size to Earth (Gaffey). The planets formed farther out from Trappist 1 and then moved inward. This makes it more likely that they could contain some form of water. Volatile compounds (molecules that easily turn to gas) like water are usually concentrated further out in star systems. As can be seen from the below code snippet, the network has a visible layer with a single input, followed by four LSTM blocks/neuron in a hidden layer, and finally a single value prediction as result output layer. Moreover, default sigmoid activation function is applied to the LSTM blocks. Using the batch size of one, the network is then trained for 100 epochs. 1 look_back=1 2 # reshape input f o r the form [ samples , time¡steps , features ] 3 trnX = np . reshape ( trnX , ( trnX . shape [ 0 ] , 1 , trnX . shape [ 1 ] ) ) 4 tstX = np . reshape ( tstX , ( tstX . shape [ 0 ] , 1 , tstX . shape [ 1 ] ) ) 5 seq_mdl = Sqntl ( ) 6 seq_mdl . add (LSTM(4 , input_shape =(1 , look_back ) ) ) ... It is developed in Python by Cliff[21] for teaching purposes and is less complicated than the real market financial exchanges in various ways like although traders can issue a new order at any point of time in the limit order book, but they can only have single order at that time. Also as currently configured, zero latency is assumed by BSE in communications between the traders and the exchange. Moreover, if any transaction is performed by any trader (i.e., alteration in LOB by issuing an order), all other traders also receives an updated LOB before issuing any further orders (or any further transaction). 4.1.1 Traders in BSE BSE has various robot traders that may be as fundamental as the giveaway that may or may not makes the profit or as elaborate as ZIP, which generates profit. These traders found in BSE are discussed below. Giveaway: This robot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Comparing Seated Statue Of Memi And Sabu I cannot speak as to how well written this essay will end up, but in it, I will attempt to examine two sculptures, the Statue of Memi and Sabu an Egyptian work and the Seated Statue of Gudea, which is a Mesopotamian work. First thing to note about both is the material, which will have some effect on the finished piece. The Egyptian work, called The Royal Acquaintances Memi and Sabu, is carved from limestone, and there are traces of paint on it, showing that at one time the figures may have looked much different than they do today. The statue of Gudea, however, is made of a much harder material, called diorite, and shows no signs of having been painted. Given the purpose for each of these statues, I believe that the materials were chosen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Abuse of Power in Heart of Darkness and in Frankenstein How is the abuse of power shown in two works that you have studied? The works I have studied and will be exploring in this essay are Mary Shelly s Frankenstein and Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness . In Frankenstein the abuse of power is most clearly exhibited by the protagonist of the story Frankenstein himself, his abuse of power results in his isolation and could serve as a warning to people, telling them not to play with forces that they can not control. In Heart of Darkness , Conrad abuses his power as the author to distance himself from the novella and in a sense absolve himself from any racist criticism the book may induce. The abuse of power is also a key theme in the novella itself. Firstly there is a sense of hypocrisy in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... King Leopold was abusing his position of power to exploit the Congo for it s raw materials, it can be said that the vivid cruel and gruesome images Conrad conveys in the book are merely mirroring the harsh reality of the brutalisation in Africa. One could therefore conclude that due to Conrad s own experiences in the Congo he has to tell his story through a framed narrative, as it may be too difficult for him to share his story in the first person. Whether this was the case or not, it is clear than in Heart of Darkness Conrad reveals the abuse of power to be ever present in the colonial age that Conrad lived in, and he demonstrates the abuse of power as something to be wary of and to fear, as it can result in madness. Finally the abuse of power in the Congo also demonstrates the hypocrisy of Imperialism through the corruption observed in the company . Before Marlow travels to the Congo itself he reveals that it was very difficult for him to ascertain a job, which would result in his exploration of the river which had charmed and fascinated him from childhood. It is at this point that Marlow decides to ask his aunt for help, and she manages to get him a job, which will take him where he desires to go. This clearly demonstrates that Marlow s abuse of power right at the beginning of the book. He then proceeds to judge others who are abusing power when he is in the Congo. For ... • 42. Taking a Look at Atomic Structure 1.INTRODUCTION: The concept of Atom was proposed by John Dalton in 1808 to explain the laws of chemical combination. He considered that matter is made up of indivisible atoms.all atoms of an element are identical.Atoms are neither created nor destroyed. Atoms of different elements have different masses and chemical properties. atoms of different elements combine in simple whole numbers to form compounds. This concept was accepted till various eminent physicists like J.J. Thomson. Goldstein, Rutherford, Niels Bohr and others have established the modern concept of an atom. As technology advances , scientists are able to gather experimental evidence related to the properties of the atom. As a result , various models of atomic structure have been suggested over the years. In this chapter we shall discuss atomic structure based on the modern principles. In the early 1900s , J.J. Thomson came up with a atomic model. Soon after J.J. Thomson atomic model , Rutherford did a series of experiments with tiny radioactive particles, known as alpha particles.he fired a gold foil with alpha particles and discovered that most of the alpha particles passed right through the gold foil, some bounced straight back and a small number passed through at an angle. From this experiment , he got conclusion that the atom consists of a small positively charged dense central part is called nucleus. In 1913 , Neils bohr proposed a planetary model of the atom . the neutrons and protons occupy a dense ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. A Comparison of Newspapers A Comparison of Newspapers There are two main types of newspapers, tabloids and broadsheets. The tabloid focuses on people and often reports on celebrities. Some types of tabloids include The People, Daily Star, The Mirror, The Sun, News of The World and Daily Sport. Tabloid papers are usually read by working class males as they feature many articles about females. The broadsheet however focuses on facts and opinions. Some broadsheets include The Telegraph, Guardian, Observer and The Times. The broadsheet is called a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both of these draw our attention to the headline. The headline is Heroes of the flood underneath the words the flood there is a picture of the flood, this could be juxtaposition. The juxtaposition links the word flood with the image. The sub heading, just below the headline, is a complete contrast to the headline as the sub heading is black. At the bottom of the page there are photos of heroes and survivors this adds to the sense of sadness, also the headline and pictures have a torn frame to give a sense of a community split or broken. There is also a small map with a near town and a river; it is a very basic map to show the readers the relationship between Boscastle and water. There are also 2 pictures of Boscastle, a before and after. This could be similar to the headline and sub heading with a complete contrast or change. The Guardian has basic presentational features with a heading in bold print, the heading says In 2 hours a seaside village was reduced to ruins next to it there is a large picture of Boscastle in ruins this could have been juxtaposition. Apart from these two factors there are no more presentational features. The first paragraph of the Sun article is very big and maybe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Comparing James Lapine s Into The Woods And Stephen Sondheim We watched Into the Woods by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim. Honestly, when you said we were going to watch a musical I thought, oh cool it s going to be like Phantom of the Opera , or High School Musical , but it wasn t like that at all. The costumes were pretty cool and the special effects were really awesome. I thought it was going to be really boring and dry, but there were some funny parts. I love the way Sondheim tied the sarcasm in with the release of tension and lesions. James Lapine wrote the book for Into the Woods he is an American stage director, filmmaker, playwright, screenwriter, and librettist. He graduated from Franklin and Marshal College and did a graduate study at the California Institute of the Arts. He has won many Tony Awards, and Drama Desk Awards; he also won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and the Peabody Award. In 2010 he was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame. • 45. Homelessness Of The Ozarks And Its Effect On Mental Illness Homelessness in the Ozarks and its Effect on Mental Illness in Older Adults Landon Green Missouri State University Homelessness In the Ozarks: Then to Now The issue my team chose to research and tackle was homelessness in the Ozarks. Specifically, we wanted to look at the demographics of the issue and then ultimately we wanted to look into the effects the issue of homelessness is having on another serious issue, mental illness, and vice versa. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines homelessness as one having no home or permanent place of residence. It defines mental illness as any of a broad range of medical conditions that are marked primarily by sufficient disorganization of personality, mind, or emotions to impair normal psychological functioning and cause marked distress or disability and that are typically associated with a disruption in normal thinking, feeling, mood, behavior, interpersonal interactions, or daily functioning. Some of the examples of mental illnesses given by Merriam Webster are major depression, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, or panic disorder. The main aspects of the issue that will be covered are the current status of the issue, the causes, current organizations involved in finding solutions, and what more needs to be done. Looking at the status of homelessness from the past to the present, we can see that there has been a drastic increase in the percentage of homeless. In a 2013 Statewide Homelessness Study ...
