The Controversy Genre Of Country Music
The work of music which has both unsettled and challenged my conventional views on music has
been the development of an offshoot genre of country music. It has been an extremely controversial
genre, and its development has been intriguing to follow. This new type of music, often defined as bro
country, has challenged both myself and traditional music values, and while I cannot say that I
certainly enjoy this type of music, it has certainly received incredible feedback.
Country music as a whole is a controversial genre; however, the past 5 years of its development have
seen the integration of drum machines, rock style guitar melodies, and the addition of a wide variety
of computer synthesizers and algorithmic composition. Both old and new

Brief History Of Basketball Research Paper
One of the greatest sports in the world is goes by the name of basketball. This great game was
invented by James Naismith December of 1891. James Naismith was a physician from Canada and
attended McGill s University in Montreal, Canada. After working as McGill s Athletic director he
went to Springfield, Massachusetts. He introduced the game when he was an instructor at the Young
Men Christian Association Training School in Springfield. He created the game because he needed to
think of something the kids would be able to play during those cold winters, in a small area. He
wanted to come up with something where you wouldn t have to be the strongest but have to have to be
skilled.
The game involved elements of football, soccer, and hockey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As for professional basketball leagues in 1937 Goodyear, Firestone, and General Electric started up
the National Basketball League. This league was formed by industrial teams sponsored by companies
and even independent teams. Mostly all these teams were based in the Midwest. Now after World War
II ended there was a move to establish a true nationwide league. This lead to the Basketball
Association of America being born. Now in 1949 this year was the end of the National Basketball
League and its remaining teams joined the Basketball Association of America. With all the teams
combined the National Basketball Association was formed.
For colleges Ivy League schools such as Yale, Harvard, Cornell, and Princeton formed some of the
earliest college leagues. A group of basketball writers in 1937 from New
York decided to have a basketball tournament. This is how they would name the college national
basketball team. This tournament would the 1 invitation tournament and was held at New York s
Madison Square Garden. This event took place in 1938 and the tournament winner with Temple
becoming the first national champion team. A group of coaches felt that this tournament should be
more centralized so they started their own tournament. It was the year of 1939 when they did so only a
year after the original tournament. The tournament that these coaches started up was then taking over
by the NCAA. It eventually grew into what we call today March Madness.

A Brief Note On Skiing And Snowboarding Is A Big Part Of...
Living in Colorado means that skiing and snowboarding is a big part of their culture, especially since
we are lucky enough to live so close to the Rocky Mountains. Surprisingly enough, I never had the
opportunity to snowboard or ski in my entire life. I did not have the chance since I was raised in a
Peruvian household that was never formally introduced to any snow activities. Peru does not get much
snow which exempts their culture from activities such as skiing and snowboarding. When I was
searching for an activity to do nothing sounded better than finally going to the mountains and learning
how to ski or snowboard. Now that I had finally decided what my challenge was, I needed to find
someone who was passionate enough about snowboarding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

To my surprise, the total price for all the equipment I needed was more than I had previously
expected, which was fine because I was genuinely excited to go snowboarding for the first time. The
rental for the snowboard, boots, instructor and entry tickets package came out to $149, as for the rest
of the equipment that I had to buy it was a total of $75 and lastly, I contributed $15 for transportation;
The grand total for the trip came to $339. That s right snowboarding isn t cheap for beginners.
Once we finally arrived at the resort we were surrounded by cool chilly air and snow, we had an
amazing view of the mountains and crisp green pine trees all around us, which was breathtaking. This
was also a great opportunity for me to take as many pictures as I could of the amazing mountains
around me. Thankfully that day there were no harsh winds and the slopes were not icy yet since this
was towards the end of March. In order to get our tickets and find our instructor we had to enter this
cabin like building; the bottom floor was where we picked up our tickets and tried on boots, the
upstairs they had a dining area where they had delicious hot dogs and cookies.
After filling out the paperwork the nice women at the ticket counter gave us, we bought our tickets
and were told where to go for our appointment with an instructor whose name was Derek Wineman.

Songs Written During War Times
There was never a good war, or a bad peace. said Benjamin Franklin, showing the importance of peace
and unnecessariness of war. The songs are the symbol of sadness, love, desire, sorrow, expectancy and
other unnumbered emotions. And on the other hand the lyrics are the voice of the society. Therefore,
the lyricists and the artists composed songs for different occasions, such as hunger, poverty, demand
for freedom, and war. The war songs were also composed during the World War II, the Vietnam War
and the Cold War era as well to illuminate the wishes of the community. The songs sometimes showed
the anger of the people, sometimes the wish for peace and the anger to the leaders.

The General Purpose Of An Estate Freeze
1. Explain what the general purpose of an estate freeze is and why it could be advantageous to Phyllis
and Freddie. An estate freeze with respect to Phyllis and Freddie s family business corporation allows
them to fix the value of their shares in the business at a particular date and create an opportunity for
Phyllis and Freddie to transfer the future growth of a business, investments, or other assets to other
taxpayers, children or other designated beneficiaries. By freezing a beneficiary s estate, they will have
to pay tax on the growth which results in a tax deferral until the beneficiary passes away or they will
have to dispose of his/her shares. Phyllis and Freddie can redeem the preferred shares at any time; the
preferred shareholder still has control over the assets. If they qualify as a qualified Small Business
Corporation, one can multiply the number of capital gains exemptions by increasing the number of
taxpayers who are shareholders. In addition, Phyllis and Freddie can transfer the asset to the children
to who they would like to appoint from their company. The growth in value of which will not be

NOBLE be man, Helpful and good! For that alone Distinguisheth him From all the beings Unto us
known. This stanza from the poem, The Godlike , by Goethe was recited by Gerda Weissmann after
she was saved by Kurt Klein. Gerda repeated this poem in spite of the Germans who put Gerda
through so much. Gerda Weissmann was a courageous Holocaust survivor who faced death in order to
save innocent lives from the hands of the Germans.
Gerda was only a teen when her life was changed. Gerda Weissmann was fifteen when Poland was
taken by the Germans in 1939. Gerda and her parents were moved into their own basement, as an
Aryan family moved into their house. She was separated from her family, never to see them again.

Gerda Weissmann started this three hundred fifty mile trip in the winter. She stayed strong even when
her three friends passed away during the march. Gerda Weissmann looked after these one hundred
twenty young women after they were abandoned in an empty factory, until they were liberated by Kurt
Klein.
Gerda Weissmann is a strong figure, who stayed brave during the Holocaust. Gerda Weissmann has
taught me that you should be strong in the face of danger. She has taught me that even when you are
struggling to keep yourself alive, you still have the ability to stand for others and save them as well.
Even though I have just learned of the great deeds she has done, I am proud to say that Gerda
Weissmann and her story have helped me become a better person. I am astounded by her strong will,
and hope that I will also be brave like Gerda Weissmann.
He and he only The good can reward, The bad can he punish, Can heal and can save This stanza, also
from the poem by Goethe, was recited by Gerda Weissmann. Whatever she may mean when she spoke

unworthy treatment, to save others. Whether it be stopping a bully or risking your life for another s,
we can make a difference in someone else s life. This is an important lesson that Gerda Weissmann

Building Trust And Cooperation Within The Worker Client...
Another element from the conversation that makes sense to me, and I will be more conscious of in the
future, is the explanation of how our clients not reaching their goals, or not being able to achieve a
certain task, as an opportunity to explore why not and to give them more positive reinforcements
rather than to count not accomplishing tasks as failures against them (Quartz, March 7, 2016). I can
see these practices as ways to build trust and cooperation within the worker client relationship.
C. Elements that I already knew about and furthered and/or clarified my knowledge and understanding
throughout the semester...

of the process and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another element that I will use in future practice, that I was aware of in another context, is part of the
relationship building process of supporting the client coming to terms with their history, the present
situation, and their future. We discussed using timeframes to help clients with this process, which is
something I had not thought of to use in the context of this course but it makes sense and I will use it
in the future. In policy analyse and political science, this method is used in understanding policies, the
history of wars, revolutions, and social movements so of course it makes sense to apply it to clients
with tumultuous histories to help them understand where their current challenges stem from and to
support their moving forward I can see the process of healing and moving forward as somewhat of a
personal revolution.
In the chapter Problem Solving, Trotter (2006c) outlines the seven steps 1. Problem survey; 2.
Problem ranking; 3. Problem exploration; 4. Setting goals; 5. Developing a contract; 6. Developing
strategies and tasks; and 7. Ongoing review of problem solving (p. 110). These are all steps that I was
trained to preform during service assessments but with a strengths base approach and viewed through
the lens of client centered and general systems theories, which I find to be complementary
accompaniments to Trotter s approach. One of the suggestions that I found helpful and will
incorporate into my future practice is the author s

Many people opposed this but the government did what they had to do under the command of George
Bush. Even the soldiers that were sent to do the job were not willing to do it but they did it because of
their patriotism towards the nation. Montgomery very clearly explains the same points. All of this
began after 9/11 wars on the World Trade Centre in Manhattan, New York. A lot of musical responses
were released. The American idiot by Green day was one of the most influential one. Even though this

Music is perhaps the most powerful tool to express anything because people can relate to lot of things
that are shown or heard through music. Rock genre has been quite a trending genre since the past
decades. It is considered to be one of the most interesting music genres the world has created,
especially because this genre is something that makes the raw talent to come out of the performers and
not just electronic music that is being played. One thing about this genre is that all the artists literally
create the music and do not simply copy and paste in their books, it is their own vocals that makes it
really interesting. This genre is not my personal preference as I think dance music is much better, but
this video stands up to the mark and proves that there is a lot of meaning to it. The video conveys a
strong message about the rebellious nature of the people and they should stand against the
government, as the artist himself is wearing all black with a red neck tie and asks for a new agenda
because he does not want war anymore and asks the people to stand up and question themselves if
they want to be a part of a useless

The Role Of Shameless Fiona In The Odyssey

May 8th, 2017 Odysseus vs. Fiona Gallagher
Fiona Gallagher from Shameless shows the complexity of human heroes through her strengths and
flaws in a similar way that the Greeks created Odysseus. All throughout Shameless Fiona is in a very
difficult spot, being responsible for her four brothers and sister. She is the oldest in the young herd of
kids, and has all of the responsibility resting on her shoulders. Despite being able to handle the
situation most days, some days she can t, tempted by the chance of having a normal life if she gets out.

They both have strengths they show in each story, showing their courage and bravery. Fiona makes the
decision to legally become the guardian of the kids, no longer having a way out. After a talk with the
judge and being asked if she agrees to the conditions of being their guardians she answers, Yes I do to
the court (Abbott A Long Way from Home ). This reminds me of the time Odysseus sacrificed himself
to get his men past the sirens. Having himself tied to the mast of the ship and held back, while his men
s ears were stuffed with beeswax to block out the deadly song. The lovely voices in ardor appealing
over the water made me crave to listen, and I tried to say Untie me! [...] If Odysseus came free from
the restraints holding him down, he would have been killed by the sirens (Homer 12.123 125). By
being courageous and thinking fast he saves his men, risking his own life in the process. However,
with great strengths and courage come horrific flaws. In Shameless, Fiona is tempted to leave town
with Steve and visit Costa Rica, leaving all of the kids behind in order to live a normal life. After
Steve pleads for her to go, she replies with, Well I don t have a passport. (Abbott Father Frank, Full of
Grace ) At this point she is her own worst enemy, she realizes that she doesn t deserve the life she has
been given, and wants to get out while she can even though she is wrong. This is similar to the time
Odysseus is lured in by Circe, staying in her palace with his men for a year. Remain with me, and
share my meat and wine; restore behind your ribs those gallant hearts [...], Circe says to Odysseus
(Homer 10. 171 172). Once considered, Odysseus stays with Circe to feast and feast eventually

The Differences Between People With Autism And The People...
Perception refers to the process of taking in, organizing, and interpreting sensory data. Perception is
multimodal, with multiple sensory inputs contributing to motor responses (Bertenthal 1996). In this
paper, I will discuss the many differences between people with autism and the people without and how
each person reacts to the same stimuli differently. I will focus on a teenage boy named Brandon, who
has Autism, the parents have known that he had ASD since he was 16 months of age where they
entered him into early intervention. Each person focuses differently on the perception of each thing in
the world, but when you add a person with autism into the mix everything changes completely. When
it comes to perception I believe that top down processing is going to be the focus of this paper since, it
has a lot to do with perception, that perception may start with the brain this includes a person s
knowledge, experience, and expectation.
People with Autism experience different perceptions in response to the same stimulus than people
without a disability.

Candles, A Remarkable, Yet Simple Creation
Candles are a remarkable, yet simple creation. Understanding the origin of candles, types of candles,
benefits, uses, and how they work is most often ignored. Fragrant smells and vibrant colors can
occasionally overpower their overall importance. The history of candles may be unknown in some
instances, but studies have found evidence relating back to the Ancient Egyptians before 3,000 B.C. It
has also been found that the Ancient Romans developed the wicked candle later after 3,000 B.C.
(Communications, 2015) For hundreds of centuries, the creation of the candle has remained popular
for its uses throughout the world. Although candles continue to have admirable qualities throughout
their existence, explanation of candles often goes unnoticed and overlooked. Candle waxes have a
complex history along with several uses and benefits suitable for use in situations, such as when the
power goes out or to ward off bugs.
Origin
The history of candles may be unknown in some instances, but studies have found evidence relating
back to the Ancient Egyptians. The Ancient Egyptians used torches or other known as rushlights. The
cores of the reeds of torches, were soaked in melted animal fat and lit with a fire source. Although
unlike a true candle, the torches or rushlights did not have a wick. Later after 3,000 B.C., the Ancient
Romans developed the wicked candle. Rolled papyrus was dipped in melted animal fat (also known as
tallow) or beeswax then lit with fire. The light from the flame

Tobacco industries are very profitable, there is no denying that, but does this profit benefit the people s
economy? Tobacco companies want the people to think that tobacco is good for the economy even
though it isn t good for health (caner.org). The tobacco industry is one of the most profitable
businesses in the US, making not million, but billions of dollars every year (cancer.org). The cost of
smoking, however, is far higher than the income made from sales (cancer.org). In 2004, the US Center
for Disease Control Prevention estimated that smoking led to health cost and productivity losses that
came to a whopping average of 10.47 dollars. (cancer.org).This is per pack (caner.org). A study of
more recent number shows that annual smoking related economic cost in the US are calculated to be
between 289 billion dollar, and 332.5 billion dollars (cancer.org). To further understand what this
means, one must break down these numbers. In the total provided earlier, factors included consist of:
132.5 billion dollars to 175.9 billion dollars for direct medical care of adults (caner.org), 151 billion
dollars for loss of productivity that was a result of premature deaths (cancer.org), and 5.6 billion

John Bowlby And Mary Ainsworth s Attachment Theory
John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth developed the Attachment Theory. According to Bowlby,
attachment is an innate behavior that children form with their primary caregivers in order to maximize
survival in situations of distress (Bretherton, 1992). Bowlby states that the mechanisms such as
smiling, babbling, crying, and cooing encourages parents to take care of the infant and helps parents
create a secure base for the child (Ainsworth Bell, 1970). John Bowlby developed four different stages
of attachment that begin during infancy (Bowlby, 1969). The first phase is the Pre Attachment Phase
(6 Weeks), in which babies are unafraid of strangers. The second phase is Attachment In The Making
(6 weeks to 6 7 months), in which babies develop a sense

Iago and Angelo as the Hypocrites of Shakespeare s Othello
Few plot elements inspire such an emotional reaction in readers as does hypocrisy. Not only do
readers feel genuine anger at the actions of the hypocritical character, but they also feel deep sympathy
for the Hester Prynnes of the stories they read. This tandem of anger and sympathy is a powerful tool
for an author to use to draw readers into his or her tale, because creating an emotional response in one
s audience is the best way to make them identify with the story. The response of the readers to these
situations is a fascinating one. Perhaps the reader remembers a time when s/he was the victim of a two

justice in the reader. Perhaps the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Othello has chosen Michael Cassio as his lieutenant, leaving Iago in a lower duty. This bit of history,
disguised as background information the story, is really the crux of the whole play, arriving all of the
action in the five acts to come. It is superficially important to the story in that it drives Iago s future
actions. However, it is fundamentally important to the idea of hypocrisy because it is the main
hypocritical premise on which he acts. Simply put, Iago is upset because he has been passed over for
military promotion a promotion to lieutenant, which would have effectively made him Othello s right
hand man. One would naturally assume that such an office would require intense valor, amity, and
most of all, loyalty. However, he has come to hate Othello for passing him over. It is obvious here that
he has no loyalty or amity, despite the valor he may have shown in past battles. Effectively, he
criticizes and turns on Othello for not thinking him loyal enough, activities which fundamentally
prove his disloyalty. No truly loyal person would develop the resentment and hostility which have
taken root strongly in him. This is integral, because it establishes immediately that Iago is a hypocrite.
He has been overlooked for a position which he thinks he should have gotten because of his loyalty,

Weapons and Tactics of WWI and WWII
In WW1 and WW2, the weapons and tactics of war were very important towards the different
countries and sides. They each had a certain way of fighting and defending. In World War One, it was
harder for people because it was earlier in the 1900s. But, it was a little easier during World War One
because the weapons and tactics were amped up.
During World War one, the weapons weren t all that great. But it was a time when a lot of new
weapons were introduced and used very much in a deadly way. They had rifles, gas, gigantic guns,
and many other things.
The weapons during this time includes guns, such as, rifles, machine guns, artillery and weapons on
tanks. Speaking of tanks, when ww1 started the first tank was introduced and was used as a weapon
and still is being used as a weapons. Some other weapons of this time period were Mortars that were
pressurized guns that pushed out little bombs. There were also gasses, but they weren t very successful
because they would blow up unexpectedly. Flamethrowers were also very big for germans, they used
them against the french and it definitely worked. One of the main things that was used was aircraft.
They took new ideas and turned them into weapons and new ways to get around.
With the weapons came the tactics to World War One. The main warfare tactic was defensive trenches.
People made many trenches and hid in them. But they also stored weapons and fought against people.
They would shoot from inside the trenches, but then some people

Queer Culture Has Long Been K.d. Lang, Ellen Degeneres,...
The faces of Queer Culture has long been K.D. Lang, Ellen Degeneres, and Elton John. While these
icons represent the queer community in that they are gay individuals, they are not wholly
representative of the community because there is no one queer story. However, these icons all have
cisgender, white privilege which results in a great dearth of representation for transgender, non binary,
and people of color in the media. Another issue with queer representation in the media is the
differentiation between gender expression and sexual orientation. Gender expression associated with
masculinity such as short hair, loose clothing, and rough materials such as denim when worn by a
woman is seen as a demarcation of alternative sexualities. However, those assumptions neglect to
recognize the diversity of gender expression. Gender expression among heterosexuals varies greatly
with some men presenting as metrosexual and some women presenting as tomboys. Similarly, this
type of variation exists within the LGBTQ+ community as members can range from femme to butch
to androgynous. Portia de Rossi would be a classic example of a femme lesbian in terms of her long
hair and frequent wearing of dresses. Often times these feminine lesbians, if they are portrayed at all,
are often used to attract male audiences. However, Orange is the New Black challenges these
conventions through the genres of Sophia Burset, Piper Chapman, and Big Boo. Sophia Burset breaks

Coffee Commodity Chain And Its Effects On The Global South
Through out this essay I will discuss the coffee commodity chain and its effects on the Global South.
This essay will also, illustrate the impact coffee has on boosting developing countries economies
while, looking into Fairtrade and its links to the commodity chain.
The world in terms of development is divided in two, which is known as the North South divide this
shows a separation between developed and developing countries. This separation is caused by
economic, social and environmental factors, economy being the clearest and most prominent
influence. For many countries in the Global South coffee is their main income, and as a result is
highly important to their economy. For instance if coffee decreases in price then farmers will not earn
enough surplus to keep their farms and what follows is a life of poverty. The following are the world s
top exporters in coffee (as of July 2016, in thousands 60kg bags): 1. Brazil with 1,926 2. Vietnam with
1,650 3. Columbia with 489 4. India with 412 5. Honduras with 403
This is a clear indication that even though these are developing countries they still remain the highest
exporters, which signals they re not entirely benefiting from their produce or in fact receiving enough
money for them. World exportation of coffee grew by 9.5% in August 2016, compared to August 2015
(ICO 2016). This displays an increase in demand for coffee therefore in retrospect farmers should be
able to increase their prices to

Analysis Of Betty Friedan s The Feminine Mystique Essay
Betty Friedan played a significant part in sparking the second wave of feminism in the United States.
Friedan authored The Feminine Mystique, which publicized women s passive behavior and apathetic
livelihood. In her novel, Friedan highlighted society s partisan treatment against women based on their
constrained living condition as a housewife. Friedan argued women s growth potential had been
restricted due to women s glorification of family, loss of identity, lack of education, and
misinterpretation of their gender role. Friedan conducted interviews and detailed women s actions to
support her assertion.
Friedan argued the central catalyst towards women s restriction in personal development rests on their
glorification of the housewife role in the family. Women knew what they wanted to be and what they
were going to be at a very young age. In fact, the common little girl s dream was to get married, have
four children, and live in a house in a nice suburb.1 Friedan concluded young women had an
unhealthy obsession with finding a husband in order to accomplish their objective of raising a family.
This can be reflected when women would take accounting classes, attend sports lessons, and join
churches just to find a potential companion.2 While Friedan believed women s effort should be
applauded, she also argued women were limiting their development by not improving their skillset
through these activities. Instead of attending lessons and classes just to find a partner, women

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Binary Options Demo Account
correctrade.com What is a binary options demo account? August 3rd, 2016
Headline: What is a binary options demo account?
Binary options trading is fairly straightforward and even a newbie can learn it in a short time.
However, owing to general volatility of the financial markets, it s risky for an inexperienced trader to
make a substantial amount of deposit and start trading for real. For that reason, many platforms have a
binary options demo account in place in order to provide the traders a risk free environment for
trading. A demo account is indispensable for a new trader as it requires no upfront commitment.
Types of trading accounts

Thus, when they start trading for real, they are well prepared and quickly adapt to the constantly
changing environment of the financial markets.
Disadvantages of a demo account
Although a demo account is indispensable for the traders, it has a few disadvantages as well.
Taking unnecessary risks A demo account comes with a large amount of practice money, even up to
$100,000. Naturally, this tends to encourage a trader to take some unnecessary risks which he would
totally avoid if it was his actual investment. The risk taking behaviour develops into a habit and can
lead to the depletion of an entire trading account as soon as the trader begins trading for real.
Unrealistic expectations Even if a trader executes a series of successful trades using a binary options
demo account, he might not be able to replicate the same level of success in a real account. Markets
and asset trends change constantly because various macroeconomic and political factors are at play.
Therefore, placing successful trades require careful and constant analysis of the trends over extended

Restoring The American Way Of Life
Kimberly Phan

Restoring what was Lost
Much of what many of us consider the American way of life is embedded of a broad shared economic
growth, between 1900s and 1979. During that time period, every American from each generation
improved than the one from before their time. Even those who had to endure through the Great
Depression made up what was lost. By then, America went into an era that economists call the Great
Compression, where workers captured a share of the economy s growth. Nowadays, there seems to be
a lot of divergence about what really happened. In hopes of simply going back to where we once were,
I feel that people are not embracing the future, but running away to ... Show more content on

Schor describes what she calls competitive consumption and that the real reason for this economic
crisis is due to the desire for things we do not need. When it comes to the topic of financial crisis in an
American household, most of us will readily agree that national debt has affected millions of people.
Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of where the money was spent that
cause this economic difficulty. I find Schor s belief of heavily indebted consumers to splurge on
luxury items inaccurate. On the other hand, Warren s theory of cost living in different time periods is
extremely useful because it sheds insight on the problems we are facing today, and the financial
stability for numerous middle class Americans is all too fragile. Schor, a professor at Boston College,
argues that we are living in the cycle of work and spent which motivates the people to spend longer
hours of work in order to buy materialistic items based on their appearance to the world. She states the
competitive consumption has shifted out to the vast majority of the population and the media has a
very pronounced bias towards showing upscaled or affluent consumption (Schor). Schor highlights the
kinds of socially visible items become increasingly important as a part of a competitive consumer
system. And because of that, the growth of the aspiration gap has led American

Advertising Connotation In Advertising
Advertising, a process that is perceived as innocuous, is in reality a powerful means that reaches into
the consumer s mind, manipulating their notions of reality. Essentially, all advertisements are sending
through subliminal messages to promote their company s products. In order to unveil these underlying
definitions, advertisement deconstruction takes place. This highlights the subtexts that are in play,
which exhibits the power of advertising. The advertisement that is the focal point for such a
deconstruction involves high class vehicle company, Lexus. The extraction of the signifiers, which all
work as a collaborative unit, reveals the denotations, connotations as well as the discourses and
ideologies that have been formed. Not only does this demonstrate the dismantling of the text; it
uncovers the raw meaning of the advertisement, unclothing what consumers fail to see with the naked
eye.
The Lexus vehicle, as shown in the advertisement above, is the overarching signifier within the text. It
is the advertiser s main objective to sell this vehicle, hence the product is the predominant focus that
grasps the attention of the consumer. The denotation reinforces that a car is on sale, as it is in the
centre of the image. In terms of the connotations, the paint covering the Lexus implies that this car
brand is dominant and reigns at a prestigious level. A silver shade is renowned in Western society for
signifying a position of social power. Even more so, the positioning

The Issue of Media and Responsible News Coverage
October 14, 2013 Introduction The topic I chose to explore more in depth with is the issue of media
and the ethics behind responsible news coverage. I wanted to examine the guidelines of media
reporting as well as if proper aspects of responsibility, morality, and privacy is taking place when the
news instantly reports on different public issues, crimes, and incidents around the country. For
example, your child is at school when a gunman invades and openly shoots many other children and
teachers in the building. It feels like switch, within minutes of the event even occurring pictures are
shown on the TV of a classroom maybe even your own child and her class walking out of the building
in fear, that night it s on the front page of the newspaper and you had no idea. Is this acceptable? Are
there any rules or say in approving this? For me personally I would be angry in that their was no
consent for that my child to be shown in that way after something so terrible happening. I wanted to
investigate media coverage and events in relation to ethical guidelines of how scenarios should be
handled and if they are, in fact, followed in the ways learned in our from our textbook. Background In
our world today, we hear in an instant what has happened and is happening to other people in different
places around the country in a matter of minutes. The media will report on every single detail of that
story and even photographs anyone involved with the incident but is this ethical? Does

The Ages And Stages Questionnaire (ASQ)
The Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) was first developed in the 1980 s at the University of
Oregon. The tool s purpose is to provide a low cost strategy to monitor the development of infants and
young children whose developmental status is in question or at risk. The ASQ has shown to produce
high specificity across questionnaire intervals but with lower and varying levels of sensitivity
(McKnight, 2014). One of the key recommendations by the American Academy of Pediatrics is early
recognition of neurodevelopmental impairment, so the ASQ is way for providers to screen their
patients for possible delays or impairments. The ASQs consist of 19 developmental questionnaires

As compared with formal examinations, the ASQs have been shown to be both cost effective and
easily administered (Gollenberg, Lynch, Jackson, McGuinness, Msall, 2010). There are five areas of
development that are assessed on the ASQ, which are communication, gross motor, fine motor,
problem solving, and personal social. The questionnaire can be filled out by the parent or caregiver
in10 20 minutes and scored in 1 5 minutes, so it is very time efficient assessment tool to use in the
outpatient setting. The ASQ has been validated in many counties, in different languages and settings,
and performs well with children with biological risk factors as well as those with environmental risk
factors (Schonhaut, Armijo, Schonstedt, Alvarez, Cordero, 2013). For scoring, the child s scores in
each of the areas are compared to the cutoff points listed on the scoring sheet. The scores from the tool
are compared with established norms to determine if a child is delayed in one or more areas. Scores
beneath the cutoff points indicates a need for further assessment, scores near the cutoff points call for
discussion and monitoring, and scores above the cutoff suggest the child is on track

My Brothers By F. Scott Fitzgerald
I felt the dread sink like a rock in my stomach. My two brothers, Ryan and Matthew, were on the
opposite end of the spectrum. My mother had been telling us for weeks that we were going up to the
farm that my family owned, but I didn t quite believe her until today. My brothers were given dirt
bikes last Christmas while I was given a ATV. Both of them had been counting down the days until
they were able to finally ride the dirt bikes and that day had come. After everything was packed, I
crammed myself in the van with my brothers and hoped for this trip to end quickly. After two long
hours of traveling with nothing to look at but the passing trees, we finally arrived at the farm. As we
piled out of the car, I looked at the dirt road we came in on and turned to the house. It was one story
and had a red tin roof, surrounded by a large grassy field and then woods beyond that. Twirling
around, I walked into the house and plopped onto the closes bed. As everyone else unpacked, I locked
myself in the room like a petulant child. Eventually my resolve broke and I crept out of the room to
see what everyone else was up to. All of the food had been unpacked and the dirt bikes and ATV had
been taken off of the trailer. Helmets were promptly passed out and my brothers slung their legs over
the bikes and were gone. Not about to be left behind, I jumped on my ATV and I was on their trail.
The trails were newly cleared in the woods and almost running into the trees served as a

History And The United States
The history of journalism in the United States has spanned from the first colonist crossing the Atlantic
Ocean to today s mass media. Even before we were a country we had printers and journalists writing
and printing stories for the people. Looking back, we can divide journalism history into different time
periods and see how news reporting developed over time. Some of these time periods include the
Colonial Period which spanned from when the first Pilgrims came to America in the mid 1600 s till
the 1760 s. Other periods include the Revolution period which picked up from the colonial period till
the early 1780 s. The period of Westward Expansion lasted from the 1800 to the 1830 s, then there was
the Civil War Period which spanned from the 1840 s till the 1860 s. Finally, the Interpretative Period
which lasted from 1930 s and continues to today. Looking back at these time periods we can see what
was considered news and what was newsworthy , the dominate issues of the periods, and how far we
have come as a society from those issues. The Colonial Period was the beginning of not only out
country, but also the beginning of our system of journalism. The colonial period dates back to the first
settlers sailing over the Atlantic in search of religious and political freedom from their oppressors in
Europe. The people during this time had a small definition for what they considered dominate news.
In this time period, most of the colonies had yet to be settled, and news only

Long Lived Assets And Depreciation
Long Lived Assets Depreciation
Long Lived Assets Long lived assets are defined as those assets that can benefit any business beyond a
years time. When a company purchases an asset, it will either expense or capitalize the purchase
(Harper, 2015). In defining this term, there are numerous categories of long lived assets including
plant assets. These are resources which have physical substance and are used in the everyday
operations of an organization. Furthermore these resources are not meant for consumers to purchase.
Another example of long lived assets is land. Land is different than other long lived assets as it does
not depreciate over time. The entire cost of land consists of the amount the land was purchased; the

The improvement, therefore can depreciate. Other long lived assets include the buildings that are used
in operation such as offices buildings or warehouses. Of course, costs include the cost of the building
itself, legal fees and taxes. Equipment is also included and is comprised of furniture, machinery, office
equipment, and vehicles used for delivery. The cost includes purchase price, tax, and insurance. Once
an organization has purchased long lived assets for their business, typically, the cost is depreciated or
amortized over the span of the expected useful life of the asset (What is a long lived asset? , 2015).
This is completed as a method to correspond the continuing use of the asset with the results of
financial benefit. There are various methods of depreciation that will be discussed, with the first being
the straight line method of depreciation, followed by the accelerated and the activity methods.
Depreciation Methods
The Straight Line Method of Amortization (Depreciation) The straight line method of amortization or
depreciation is widely used by many organizations in order to depreciate fixed assets and is the most
common method that is used to amortize intangible assets. This method is selected because
organization financial leaders and accountants feel the asset delivers benefits throughout each year of
the projected useful life. In addition, this method has the advantage of being easy to apply and it

Analysis Of Handedness And Brain Asymmetry
Handedness and brain asymmetry are both very important aspects of humans and many other species.
They are innate, complicated features that are distinct to everyone. Unfortunately, many people have
made assumptions that exaggerate the importance and dominance of one side of the brain from the
other. It is understood that the left brain controls the right hand and specializes in language and logic.
Alternatively, the right brain controls the left hand and specializes in creativity, intuition, and emotion.
In the essay written on January 21st, 2014 in the School of Psychology in the University of Auckland,

He explains that the brain is asymmetrical, not only to humans, but to many other species as well,
which indicate an evolutionary development. He then explains that handedness and brain asymmetries
are determined through gene and are developed during the fetus stage. Corballis states the idea that
handedness is of little importance when determining a person s worth, as many left handers (which are
less dominant) succeed in life. He concludes that the appeal of having dominance in one brain side or
handedness is due to the power of myths and not true evidence. (1 4) Corballis focuses on two main
topics in his essay: handedness and cerebral asymmetry. These are two key terms to recognize in order
to understand this paper. The author is aware of this and repetitively explains these phrases and how
they relate to his claim. Corballis states that the two are inborn and under partial genetic control,
although the gene or genes responsible are not well established (1). It is significant that Corballis
portrays these terms in this way because the readers may have their own interpretation of them
beforehand. But to clear any misunderstandings, Corballis explains that handedness and cerebral
asymmetry start as an innate feature rather than a specialization. This shows Corballis s exceptional
ability as a writer because he defines the terms in a way that suits his claims and dismisses any
misconceptions. Corballis also states that the two are

Anne Sexton
Anne Sexton
Michealangelo, perhaps the most gifted sculptor and painter of all times, once said that geniuses stand
on the shoulders of other geniuses. As Michelangelo built upon the brilliance of his predecessors,
Anne Sexton does the same in her collection of poems entitled Transformations. She renovated fairy
tales as told by the Brothers Grimm by adding her own life experiences and view of contemporary
culture, hammering away until she built an entirely new art form. Anne Sexton has had a notable
effect upon the literary genre of fairy tales through this shocking transformation of classic tales.

the beginning of her rise to the top. 1967 another major year in Sexton s career; she won the Pulitzer
Prize for Live or Die. Transformations, her book of poetic fairy tales, was published later in 1971. On
October 4, 1974, shortly after the release of Transformations, Anne could no longer stand the
pressures of her existence and committed suicide.
This biographical information is essential to understanding Anne Sexton s influence on the fairy tale
because her transformations of the Grimm Brother s work rises out of her personal turmoil. Most of
Sexton s works before and after Transformations are of the confessional style, but through her poetic
transformations of fairy tales, Sexton gives herself a more discrete outlet for her passions (Ostriker
255). Her biographer Diane Middlebrook notes that the poems were a way to place her struggles in
legend rather than personal history (37). The intensely metaphorical characters of Sexton s fairy
poetry are one example of this. For instance, Judith the cold and neglectful mother in Snow White
surely represents Sexton s own callous mother (Middlebrook 37). Sexton s father is also recognizable

The Characteristics Of The Jazz Style Of Ella Fitzgerald
Learning a great deal about musicality, the business side of music and how to take care of herself, the
next few years brought a great deal of success to Chick Webb and herself.
With the raise of the new jazz style, bebop, jazz music moved from the diatonic conventions of the
swing era to more chromatic harmonies, complex rhythms and more notes and chord options. This
style caught Ella s attention and during her time with the Chick Webb band, she got her start
improvising in the bop style.
Ella is said to have described the early days of the bop revolution as something of a nightmare. I felt
that I was being left behind, and I was, she says. A few years later Ella found herself as the guest
touring with Gillespie s band. She was thrilled to listen to this new music day in and day out on the
road and quickly found she had enough musicianship and ears or ability to hear the intricacies of this
hipper jazz. Ella Fitzgerald became an expert with the new modern rhythms and harmonies and her
improvisation and musicianship as a singer improved drastically. Her inspirations during this era were
Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie and she was able to imitate their playing style and the timbre of the
saxophone and trumpet. Not only was she able to copy their playing style but also could sound just
like Parker and Gillespie. This is made apparent in her solo from the live recording of How High the
Moon . This song is a great song for any beginning scat singer to

Why Are We Breaking Up
There is something that we need to talk about. I think it is time we break up. It s not me, it s you and I
feel like you should know why. First reason is that you can t tax people that don t have any money.
Many of the people of this great country fought for our freedom and liberty. Also the main reason why
we fought the revolutionary war was to stop this taxation put upon us by Britain, and now it s
happening again by you and I can t deal with this anymore. The second reason why we are breaking
up is because the freedom that the American revolution sought to preserve us proved to create a
government under the Articles of Confederation that could not keep law and order; it pointed out the
inability of the central government to maintain law

Myths Of The Mound Builders
Myths of the Mound Builders The first time I heard about the Mound Builders, which was in this
class, these people seemed like a very primitive group. What was so exciting about having the skill of
piling up a bunch of dirt. Then I was able to see some of these mounds and the scale was nothing I had
imagined. These mounds were huge and also contained distinct structural shapes. Tombs, houses, and
religious structures were constructed in or on top of the mounds. What made the edifices even more
amazing was the time period they were built. Constructed all the way back to 3000 B.C., the mounds
rivaled the most advanced engineering techniques in the world. An interesting aspect involved with
the Mound Builders were the way they were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were able to obtain huge assembly of artifacts and precise surveys that are still used to this day.
Another major contributor to the understanding of the Mound Builders was Cyrus Thomas. He was an
entomologist and botanist that was made the head of the Division of Mound Exploration. Thomas
gathered his assistants and set out into the Mississippi Valley to study the earthworks. During this time
the mounds were being destroyed by looters and fought to keep the mounds in good condition. Over
seven years Thomas was able to survey more than two thousand mounds and collect tens of thousands
of artifacts. He then wrote an a work called the Report on the Mound Explorations of the Bureau of
Ethnology. In this report Cyrus was able to explain the diversity and integrity of the Mound Builder
culture. The Native Americans were now able to be viewed as people who had a rich past, not one of
barbarism as thought before. These were people that deserved respect and gratitude for providing such
interesting achievements for mankind. As one can see, the earthworks of the Ohio and Mississippi
valley are critical in the understanding the past. They provide great clues about the migration of the
Ancient people of this land. It is still not understood how the Western World was settled and under
great debate. Any clues that are available should be used and the mounds are a great source. Native

Low Thyroid Research Paper
 Digestion: Low thyroid diminishes the release of Gastrin, which determines the productivity of
hydrochloric acid in the stomach, leading to poor protein digestion, sour belly and GERD.
 Thermoregulation: Regulation of body temperature is affected by low thyroid, occasioning in hot
flashes and night perspirations, which is particularly noticeable in pre menopausal females. This is
often accused on estrogen dropping, but may be openly caused by low thyroid.
 PMS and infertility: Low thyroid affects the progesterone receptors, making them less sensitive to
progesterone, which feels like low progesterone although the progesterone levels may be average.
Since the activity of progesterone is reduced, the health of the uterus is inadequate for embedding in
the second half of the female cycle, leading to problems getting pregnant and PMS. Low thyroid also
decreases sex hormone binding proteins, leading to an upsurge in estrogen activity.
 Anemia: Low thyroid, as cited affects protein metabolism, which then drops the red blood cell
mass, which transfers oxygen to tissues for metabolism of energy. Yes, another reason for feeling
lousy.
 Homocysteine: Low thyroid decelerates a procedure called methylation, often verified by raised
serum levels of homocysteine. Raised homocysteine in the blood has been ... Show more content on

Number one is the weight gain that characteristically befalls on the face and often a puffed up thyroid

decrease in proper thyroid hormone leads to diminishing of the part of the brain stem that is in charge
of the cardio respiratory centers, thus leading to atypical breathing patterns during sleep. Enfeebled
respiratory muscles owing to hypothyroid myopathy can be a third cause for sleep

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Singapore s National...
1. Explain the strengths and weaknesses of Singapore s national innovation system.
After gaining political independence from Malaysia in 1965, Singapore experienced a phase of rapid
industrialization based on export oriented manufacturing by foreign MNCs. The approach was to offer
MNCs favourable conditions to locate in Singapore, with a view to increase overall skills and
technological capabilities. Singapore sought to build its science and technology resources through the
transfer of manufacturing technologies embedded in MNCs and foreign direct investments (FDI). The
local skill base was also developed through learning by using techniques among workers and
technicians employed by these foreign MNCs. Thus Singapore followed a dependent ... Show more

One important issue is the relative underdevelopment in local technological and marketing capability.
The success of a national innovation system depends on the effectiveness of two things: (i) the
deployment of new technologies and (ii) the development or creation of new technologies. The
dependent strategy has led Singapore to focus more on the deployment and diffusion of technology by
leveraging on large foreign high tech MNCs, rather than fostering technological development by local
enterprises. The development of new technology in the MNC headquarters and its transfer to their
subsidiaries in Singapore has only been a major source of technological upgrading in Singapore, rather
than indigenous research and development. (Wong, 2000). According to Low (2000), the innovative
capacity and culture of Singapore had to be nourished, apart from the efforts of the government in
creating a conducive business environment
Developing the national innovation system using the dependent strategy can shift the government s
focus to creating more incentives for MNCs, rather than the domestic firms. Local small and medium
enterprises (SMEs) with some amount of entrepreneurial risk taking capabilities become
overshadowed by MNCs and Government Linked companies (GLCs). This creates a credibility gap
when obtaining financial assistance schemes. Efforts must be made to ensure that these private local
SMEs are not dwarfed by the MNCs and

  • 2. The Controversy Genre Of Country Music The work of music which has both unsettled and challenged my conventional views on music has been the development of an offshoot genre of country music. It has been an extremely controversial genre, and its development has been intriguing to follow. This new type of music, often defined as bro country, has challenged both myself and traditional music values, and while I cannot say that I certainly enjoy this type of music, it has certainly received incredible feedback. Country music as a whole is a controversial genre; however, the past 5 years of its development have seen the integration of drum machines, rock style guitar melodies, and the addition of a wide variety of computer synthesizers and algorithmic composition. Both old and new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Brief History Of Basketball Research Paper One of the greatest sports in the world is goes by the name of basketball. This great game was invented by James Naismith December of 1891. James Naismith was a physician from Canada and attended McGill s University in Montreal, Canada. After working as McGill s Athletic director he went to Springfield, Massachusetts. He introduced the game when he was an instructor at the Young Men Christian Association Training School in Springfield. He created the game because he needed to think of something the kids would be able to play during those cold winters, in a small area. He wanted to come up with something where you wouldn t have to be the strongest but have to have to be skilled. The game involved elements of football, soccer, and hockey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As for professional basketball leagues in 1937 Goodyear, Firestone, and General Electric started up the National Basketball League. This league was formed by industrial teams sponsored by companies and even independent teams. Mostly all these teams were based in the Midwest. Now after World War II ended there was a move to establish a true nationwide league. This lead to the Basketball Association of America being born. • 4. A Brief Note On Skiing And Snowboarding Is A Big Part Of... Living in Colorado means that skiing and snowboarding is a big part of their culture, especially since we are lucky enough to live so close to the Rocky Mountains. Surprisingly enough, I never had the opportunity to snowboard or ski in my entire life. I did not have the chance since I was raised in a Peruvian household that was never formally introduced to any snow activities. Peru does not get much snow which exempts their culture from activities such as skiing and snowboarding. When I was searching for an activity to do nothing sounded better than finally going to the mountains and learning how to ski or snowboard. That s right snowboarding isn t cheap for beginners. Once we finally arrived at the resort we were surrounded by cool chilly air and snow, we had an amazing view of the mountains and crisp green pine trees all around us, which was breathtaking. This was also a great opportunity for me to take as many pictures as I could of the amazing mountains around me. Thankfully that day there were no harsh winds and the slopes were not icy yet since this was towards the end of March. In order to get our tickets and find our instructor we had to enter this cabin like building; the bottom floor was where we picked up our tickets and tried on boots, the upstairs they had a dining area where they had delicious hot dogs and cookies. After filling out the paperwork the nice women at the ticket counter gave us, we bought our tickets and were told where to go for our appointment with an instructor whose name was Derek Wineman. ... Perception is multimodal, with multiple sensory inputs contributing to motor responses (Bertenthal 1996). I will focus on a teenage boy named Brandon, who has Autism, the parents have known that he had ASD since he was 16 months of age where they entered him into early intervention. However, these icons all have cisgender, white privilege which results in a great dearth of representation for transgender, non binary, and people of color in the media. Another issue with queer representation in the media is the differentiation between gender expression and sexual orientation. Gender expression associated with masculinity such as short hair, loose clothing, and rough materials such as denim when worn by a woman is seen as a demarcation of alternative sexualities. However, those assumptions neglect to recognize the diversity of gender expression. Gender expression among heterosexuals varies greatly with some men presenting as metrosexual and some women presenting as tomboys. The following are the world s top exporters in coffee (as of July 2016, in thousands 60kg bags): 1. Brazil with 1,926 2. Vietnam with 1,650 3. Columbia with 489 4. India with 412 5. Honduras with 403 This is a clear indication that even though these are developing countries they still remain the highest exporters, which signals they re not entirely benefiting from their produce or in fact receiving enough money for them. World exportation of coffee grew by 9.5% in August 2016, compared to August 2015 (ICO 2016). • 24. Analysis Of Betty Friedan s The Feminine Mystique Essay Betty Friedan played a significant part in sparking the second wave of feminism in the United States. Friedan authored The Feminine Mystique, which publicized women s passive behavior and apathetic livelihood. In her novel, Friedan highlighted society s partisan treatment against women based on their constrained living condition as a housewife. Friedan argued women s growth potential had been restricted due to women s glorification of family, loss of identity, lack of education, and misinterpretation of their gender role. Friedan conducted interviews and detailed women s actions to support her assertion. Friedan argued the central catalyst towards women s restriction in personal development rests on their glorification of the housewife role in the family. Women knew what they wanted to be and what they were going to be at a very young age. In fact, the common little girl s dream was to get married, have four children, and live in a house in a nice suburb.1 Friedan concluded young women had an unhealthy obsession with finding a husband in order to accomplish their objective of raising a family. This can be reflected when women would take accounting classes, attend sports lessons, and join churches just to find a potential companion.2 While Friedan believed women s effort should be applauded, she also argued women were limiting their development by not improving their skillset through these activities. Instead of attending lessons and classes just to find a partner, women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Restoring The American Way Of Life Kimberly Phan Professor Kirby English 1B, section 39 23 September 2014 Restoring what was Lost Much of what many of us consider the American way of life is embedded of a broad shared economic growth, between 1900s and 1979. During that time period, every American from each generation improved than the one from before their time. Even those who had to endure through the Great Depression made up what was lost. By then, America went into an era that economists call the Great Compression, where workers captured a share of the economy s growth. Schor describes what she calls competitive consumption and that the real reason for this economic crisis is due to the desire for things we do not need. When it comes to the topic of financial crisis in an American household, most of us will readily agree that national debt has affected millions of people. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of where the money was spent that cause this economic difficulty. I find Schor s belief of heavily indebted consumers to splurge on luxury items inaccurate. On the other hand, Warren s theory of cost living in different time periods is extremely useful because it sheds insight on the problems we are facing today, and the financial stability for numerous middle class Americans is all too fragile. Schor, a professor at Boston College, argues that we are living in the cycle of work and spent which motivates the people to spend longer hours of work in order to buy materialistic items based on their appearance to the world. She states the competitive consumption has shifted out to the vast majority of the population and the media has a very pronounced bias towards showing upscaled or affluent consumption (Schor). Advertising Connotation In Advertising Advertising, a process that is perceived as innocuous, is in reality a powerful means that reaches into the consumer s mind, manipulating their notions of reality. Essentially, all advertisements are sending through subliminal messages to promote their company s products. In order to unveil these underlying definitions, advertisement deconstruction takes place. This highlights the subtexts that are in play, which exhibits the power of advertising. The advertisement that is the focal point for such a deconstruction involves high class vehicle company, Lexus. The extraction of the signifiers, which all work as a collaborative unit, reveals the denotations, connotations as well as the discourses and ideologies that have been formed. Not only does this demonstrate the dismantling of the text; it uncovers the raw meaning of the advertisement, unclothing what consumers fail to see with the naked eye. The Lexus vehicle, as shown in the advertisement above, is the overarching signifier within the text. It is the advertiser s main objective to sell this vehicle, hence the product is the predominant focus that grasps the attention of the consumer. The denotation reinforces that a car is on sale, as it is in the centre of the image. The Issue of Media and Responsible News Coverage October 14, 2013 Introduction The topic I chose to explore more in depth with is the issue of media and the ethics behind responsible news coverage. I wanted to examine the guidelines of media reporting as well as if proper aspects of responsibility, morality, and privacy is taking place when the news instantly reports on different public issues, crimes, and incidents around the country. For example, your child is at school when a gunman invades and openly shoots many other children and teachers in the building. It feels like switch, within minutes of the event even occurring pictures are shown on the TV of a classroom maybe even your own child and her class walking out of the building in fear, that night it s on the front page of the newspaper and you had no idea. Is this acceptable? Are there any rules or say in approving this? For me personally I would be angry in that their was no consent for that my child to be shown in that way after something so terrible happening. I wanted to investigate media coverage and events in relation to ethical guidelines of how scenarios should be handled and if they are, in fact, followed in the ways learned in our from our textbook. My mother had been telling us for weeks that we were going up to the farm that my family owned, but I didn t quite believe her until today. My brothers were given dirt bikes last Christmas while I was given a ATV. Both of them had been counting down the days until they were able to finally ride the dirt bikes and that day had come. After everything was packed, I crammed myself in the van with my brothers and hoped for this trip to end quickly. After two long hours of traveling with nothing to look at but the passing trees, we finally arrived at the farm. As we piled out of the car, I looked at the dirt road we came in on and turned to the house. It was one story and had a red tin roof, surrounded by a large grassy field and then woods beyond that. Twirling around, I walked into the house and plopped onto the closes bed. As everyone else unpacked, I locked myself in the room like a petulant child. Eventually my resolve broke and I crept out of the room to see what everyone else was up to. All of the food had been unpacked and the dirt bikes and ATV had been taken off of the trailer. Even before we were a country we had printers and journalists writing and printing stories for the people. Looking back, we can divide journalism history into different time periods and see how news reporting developed over time. Some of these time periods include the Colonial Period which spanned from when the first Pilgrims came to America in the mid 1600 s till the 1760 s. Other periods include the Revolution period which picked up from the colonial period till the early 1780 s. The period of Westward Expansion lasted from the 1800 to the 1830 s, then there was the Civil War Period which spanned from the 1840 s till the 1860 s. Finally, the Interpretative Period which lasted from 1930 s and continues to today. Looking back at these time periods we can see what was considered news and what was newsworthy , the dominate issues of the periods, and how far we have come as a society from those issues. The Colonial Period was the beginning of not only out country, but also the beginning of our system of journalism. It is understood that the left brain controls the right hand and specializes in language and logic. Alternatively, the right brain controls the left hand and specializes in creativity, intuition, and emotion. He then explains that handedness and brain asymmetries are determined through gene and are developed during the fetus stage. He concludes that the appeal of having dominance in one brain side or handedness is due to the power of myths and not true evidence. This biographical information is essential to understanding Anne Sexton s influence on the fairy tale because her transformations of the Grimm Brother s work rises out of her personal turmoil. Most of Sexton s works before and after Transformations are of the confessional style, but through her poetic transformations of fairy tales, Sexton gives herself a more discrete outlet for her passions (Ostriker 255). Her biographer Diane Middlebrook notes that the poems were a way to place her struggles in legend rather than personal history (37).
