Dizzy Gelespie (John Birks Gillespie) Essay
The people of today, raised by the sounds of The Beatles and Pearl Jam have forgotten all about the
musicians that paved the way for these artists, and the musical styles that evolved into rock and roll,
rhythm and blues and rap or hip hop. Unfortunately the music that once dominated the night clubs,
restaurants, and radio stations is now heard only in elevators or when we go to a grandparents house to
visit. What is left of jazz are small portions of the music that people take and sample with in a new
song. Jazz and its historical figures have mistreated and forgotten by today s society. One of the figure
most forgotten is John Birks Gillespie, known to the jazz world as quot;Dizzy quot; Gillespie.
quot;Dizzy quot; Gillespie was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gillespie admired the style and work of Roy Elridge so much that he started to sound like Elridge.
Some time later Gillespie was hired in a band because he played with Elridge=s style so well. In his
studies he would transcribe or learn the notes and phrases that Elridge would play during his solos
(Powis, 58). Although to become a Jazz musician, Gilllespie did not idolize only jazz musicians, he
also greatly enjoyed listening to and examining the styles of musicians like Stravinsky, a virtuoso
composer of the classic period, and Maurice Ravel another composer, famous for works like
quot;Bolero quot;, a piece that consisted of a phrase that repeated over and over, each time getting
louder and thicker (Powis, 58).
Dizzy unfortunately was to be later recognized by many for his many distinguishable trademarks
instead of the musical proficiency he worked so hard for. He was famous for his sense of humor. At a
performance Dizzy asked the audience if he could introduce the band. The audience replied swiftly
quot;yes quot;. He than began introducing the saxophone player to the drummer and the trumpet
player to the trombonist and so forth (Wastrous, January 17). He also expressed his incredible humor
within his music as well. In his own interpretation of the spiritual, quot;Swing Low Sweet Chariot,
quot; Gillespie develops the song into quot;Swing low Sweet Cadillac. quot; He had

The Restoration Movement
In Bill Humble s book: Story Of The Restoration, he does an excellent and concise job covering this
time period. His information packed sentences and logical flow make this a well worth read. The
Restoration Movement bears significance today as is did from its beginning. Humble notes that, The
Restoration Movement began in America about 1800, nearly 200 years after the first English
settlements in the New World. (Humble 1). The New World was very diverse religiously compared to
Europe where Catholicism was prominent. The author goes on to list several of the main religious
groups that colonized the New World. Anglicanism became the state church in Virginia, and Maryland
was mostly Catholic. In Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire ... Show more content on

He notes: The decade following the Civil War saw a division in the Church in the North. One point of
contention was missionary societies between Isaac Errett and Benjamin Franklin. The Louisville Plan
restructured the Society with the aim of maintaing peace in the brotherhood (Humble 57). The
restructuring however ultimately failed for lack of funds. The question of instrumental music was
asked in 1851, and the discussion broadened between 1864 1865 when W. K. Pendleton saw
instruments as mere expediency. Some, such as McGarvey and Moses E. Lard, stood fast in opposing
the use of instruments. Another conservative, Benjamin Franklin, said: Better is poor singing where
love is, than the grandest tones of the organ and hatred therewith. (Humble 60). In 1906 the Churches
of Christ and the Christian Church were officially listed separately in the United States Census. This
was mostly based on the use of instruments or not. Humble notes: In 1896 J.D. Tant estimated that
more than a hundred Texas congregations had divided over the use of instrumental music. (Humble
65). Nevertheless, in 1916, Churches of Christ in Texas were more numerous than Christian Churches
(Humble 66). Division seemed to be spotlighted in progressives and conservatives, but division
abounded in each group as well. For example, many conservatives agreed against societies and
instruments, but

Impact of the Recession on the US Auto Industry Essay
Introduction As the nation was introduced into the current recession, the auto industry and its labor
was likely hurt more than any other industry. Few years ago it was the homebuilding industry that was
troubled the most and held the first place, but it gave that position over to the auto industry the
following year. Why was this industry affected more than any other is very interesting and complex
situation. There are several factors why there was such a huge negative impact on this industry, its
performance, and the labor involved. Some of the major reasons are very high foreign competition,
higher oil prices, and certainly the recession. The Auto Industry In the United States, modern car
manufacturing has been historically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ford s F Series experienced a 46% drop in sales for 2006 compared to 2007, making a once most
wanted truck in the United States almost abandoned by the consumers. The second and the current
recession that began in 2007 brought a new wave of impact on the auto industry. At the time banks
were more flexible with approving loans and the interest rates were low which attracted a lot of
consumers into the housing market. Since many of them were not able to afford it, eventually they
turned to foreclosure leaving them with debt and no credit worthiness; thus, banks started raising the
interest rates on auto loans. But foreign competition, higher oil prices, and higher interest rates were
not enough to destabilize the auto industry on such a scale; it was the recession that shocked it the
most. According to Martin B. Zimmerman, Chief Economist and Executive Director for Governmental
Relations and Corporate Economics Ford Motor Co., it is the auto industry that depends on economic
cycles more than any other industry. Drastic manufacturing cost cutting continued for the next two
years until there was almost nothing more to reduce or lay off. This downturn of the economy began a
long lasting unemployment rise in Michigan that eventually reached 15.3%. In 2009, according to the
Chicago Fed, there were more unemployed auto

Analysis Of The Play A Midsummer Night Dream
This is the first section where I m going to discuss the overview of this play. The message in the play
Chicago was society always want to seek happiness through seeking people s approval, but this will
conclude into the exact opposite, and this was portrayed through the life of Roxie Hart. I saw the play
Chicago on May 4, 2017 at 8 p.m. I was seated center row A seat 106. The cost of the ticket was
approximately $11 since I purchased it in a package with the play A Midsummer Night Dream which
costed me $22 for the set. There were way more people in the audience than the A Midsummer Night
Dream play since the theater was way bigger. The audience were very into the play as when every

In my opinion, this is definitely a musical play. All the characters dialogues were through singing. The
characters were basically singing their messages across, and it works. In my opinion, they spoke in a
sort of high pitched voice. They spoke with very high confidence, and I haven t really noticed a flaw
or mess up during the play. No actors in the play really stuttered, and it seem like they spoke/sang
their lines perfectly. This is the third section where I m going to discuss the director and the
performers. In my opinion, all the performers did great from the main casts to the extras to the
background people playing music. I felt like Gabrielle Rochblatt, the person that played Roxie Hart
did a great job with singing and acting. There is a reason why Gabrielle was given the task to play
Roxie Hart which is the main character and basically had the most line out of any characters. Gabrielle
had this charisma when she say her lines or sing. Her character, Roxie Hart will do something that can
make her seem like a villain, but for some reason, it s hard to dislike her. Yes, it can be because she is
also a protagonist character, but I feel part of it has to do with Gabrielle charismatic performance on
stage. Her looks also fit her role as well. The producers were very smart when choosing her for this
role. Gabrielle had the total package. A lot of times, many people are capable of acting, but it

Acute Failure And Chronic Failure
CHF occurs when the heart is no longer able to adequately pump blood causing a decrease in nutrients
and oxygen to the body. The term CHF has widely been replaced by the terms acute failure and
chronic failure because not all types of heart failure are accompanied by pulmonary congestion.
However, in this pt s case, she suffered from severe edema and fluid build up in the lungs due to the
failure. CHF is generally precipitated by other cardiac related conditions including, HTN, CAD, and
past MIs, all of which are present in this pt s history (Lewis, Heitkemper, Dirksen, Bucher, Camera,
2014). The heart is responsible for moving the body s blood, and is primarily composed of cardiac
muscle. Similar to skeletal muscle, the cells are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This transfer of ions is what generates the electrical impulse of the heart and causes the heart to act as
a single unit instead of individual cells (Marieb Hoehn, 2013). Cardiac conduction occurs because
there are gap junctions for ions to pass through and because of the heart s intrinsic conduction system,
which is composed of non contractile cardiac cells that are specifically designed to start and distribute
electric impulses through the cardiac cells so that depolarization and contractions are orderly and
sequential. The contractile cells sustain stable membrane resting potential when they are unstimulated,
however, the resting potential of the autorhythmic cells, that create the intrinsic conduction system, is
unstable and is constantly depolarizing, which is called pacemaker potentials and initiate the action
potential that causes the heart to contract (Marieb Hoehn, 2013). The pace maker potential occurs
because of the ion channels which causes hyperpolarization at the end of the action potentials. This
hyperpolarization causes the K+ channels to close while simultaneously opening the Na+ channels,
which allows an imbalance of K+ and Na+ to occur making the cardiac cells to become more positive.
When the pacemaker potential is reached at around

Outline and evaluate Bruce and Young s theory of face...
The face recognition model developed by Bruce and Young has eight key parts and it suggests how we
process familiar and unfamiliar faces, including facial expressions. The diagram below shows how
these parts are interconnected. Structural encoding is where facial features and expressions are
encoded. This information is translated at the same time, down two different pathways, to various
units. One being expression analysis, where the emotional state of the person is shown by facial
features. By using facial speech analysis we can process auditory information. This was shown by
McGurk (1976) who created two video clips, one with lip movements indicating Ba and other
indicating Fa . Both clips had the sound Ba played over the clip. ... Show more content on

It is also unclear if it is the brain injury itself that causes the result and if it is the same for healthy
people.
There was a study done by Young, Hay, and Ellis (1985) that uses people with no medical issues. They
asked people to keep a diary record of problems they experienced in face recognition. They found
people never reported putting a name to a face while knowing nothing else about that person. This
supports the model as it suggests that we cannot think of a person s name unless we know other
contextual information about them.
Prosopagnosia is a condition where a person cannot recognise familiar faces, but only the features, not
the whole face. The condition contradicts the model as it suggests that the process are most likely not
separate. As most patients had severe problems with facial expression as well as facial identity, this
suggests they are processed separately. The model can also be seen as reductionist, as it only gives a
vague description of what the cognitive system does. However, there is research that does support the
concept that there are two are separate paths for processing face recognition and facial expression.
One being Humphreys, Avidan, and Behrmann (2007) who studied three participants with
developmental prosopagnosia. All three had poor ability to recognise faces, but their ability to
recognise facial expressions was similar to that of healthy

Harry Potter Quotes
We have all got both light and dark inside of us, what matters is the part we choose to act on. That s
who we really are. This is a quote expressed by Sirius Black who is Harry Potter s uncle in the series
written by J.K. Rowling .This quote describes the character of Harry Potter because of his will to
choose light over dark again and again. His tendency to do this has changed kids lives around the
world from reading this series. The Harry Potter series, written by J.K. Rowling, follows Harry Potter
and his fellow wizards as he faces the evil Lord Voldemort and other smaller evils and lessons along
his journey to becoming a grown wizard. Harry Potter has many amazing characteristics throughout

The first quote that helps prove this point is Dobby has heard of your greatness, sir, but of your
goodness, Dobby never knew... (Rowling 15). This quote from the second book in the series, Harry
Potter and The Chamber of Secrets, comes from a house elf named Dobby. Dobby is a slave to an evil
family and is not use to receiving kind words at all. He comes to Harry Potter s house to help him, and
his surprised of how well a wizard is treating him. Like everyone in the wizarding world, he has heard
of the famous Harry Potter who has defeated evil Lord Voldemort twice. He has never met Harry
Potter, so he has not personally been on the receiving end of Harry Potter s ability to be a good friend
to everyone. Normally, wizards look down to house elves and treat them poorly. Harry Potter is such a
good friend to everyone that he sees no need to treat anyone poorly. Another example of Harry Potter
being a good friend comes from Harry Potter and Sorcerer s Stone while Harry and Hermione are
having a conversation. I m not as good as you, said Harry, very embarrassed, as she let go of him. Me!
said Hermione. Books! And cleverness! There are more important things friendship and bravery and
oh Harry be careful! (Rowling 287). This quote is a conversation between Harry and his best friend
Hermione about the characteristics of the two. Hermione is incredibly smart and loves to learn, and
Harry makes a comment about how he is not as good in school as she is. She thinks that Harry s best
qualities, friendship and bravery, are much more important. Hermione has been friends with Harry a
very short period of time when she says this, so it is proof that the quality of his friendship is evident
to all who are around him. There are many examples throughout the whole series that show how good
of a friend Harry is and these are just two of them. Harry s character of

Similarities Between Orangutans And The Great Apes
Within the world of primates, the family Hominidae includes the primates known as the great apes.
These primates, are then broken down into two subfamilies. One subfamily contains the primates
chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas and humans, while the other subfamily, Ponginae, only contains the
species Pongo, commonly known as the orangutan. Orangutans, although closely related to the other
great apes, represent a lot of extremes in biological parameters (Campbell, C. J., 2011). One of the
most drastic extremes is that orangutans are the largest primary arboreal mammal in the world. This is
a result of special evolutionary adaptations that allow these primates to mechanically function in an
arboreal lifestyle. Unlike the other great apes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This book included a large section of information on orangutans with observations about basic traits as
well as mechanical and social behaviors. It is interesting to note that the section also notes the various
methods these orangutans were being hunted, killed or used by its enemies. It concludes describing an
old misconception of how an orangutan s great strength and ferocity render them dangerous. We now
know that these animals are actually very rarely aggressive, but rather solitary social creatures. The
common theme of primates being dangerous and monsters can be across various historical writings.
Orangutans, endemic now only in the southeast rainforests of Asia, were once found throughout Asia
(Campbell, C. J., 2011). Since 2001, there have only been two species of orangutan identified, the
Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abeli) and the Bornean Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) (Nater, A., et al.
2017). However, recent research, to be published later this month, has identified a new third species of
orangutan, Pongo tapanuliensis. This species of orangutans, found south of Lake Toba, was once
grouped with the Sumatran Orangutans, however, recent genetic testing has identified them as a
completely different species from those orangutans found north of Lake Toba. Orangutans all face
major issues in terms of numbers with all species marked as either endangered or critically endangered
due to hunting pressure and habitat destruction. The palm oil industry has greatly

Fraternity And Sorority
College students have many life altering questions they must answer through the journey of further
education. From a student s major, living circumstance, classes, and getting involved on campus, it
can start to get stressful if there are mixed signals about what they are getting into. Getting involved
on campus is a great way to meet people and improve skills needed after graduation. A student might
choose to be involved in Greek life because of the parties, friends, and job application quirks down the
road (Joining a Fraternity, np). The outcome involves those things, but it also involves leadership
traits, lifelong relationships, the ability to surpass the negative public perception of Fraternity and
Sorority men and women, and keep up good grades. While involved in Greek life, each chapter has an

which goes to whoever makes the highest grades on major tests. If a student s GPA drops under a
certain score, then they have to have a certain amount of study hours or note checks until their grade
goes back up. If their GPA is so low for a long amount of time they might get kicked out of the
fraternity or sorority. Students knowing that they have to keep their grades up for a fraternity or
sorority could help them graduate. A U.S. Government study shows that over 70% of all those who

The Effects Of Prenatal And Delivery Care On Mothers
I exclude births of twins from this analysis. Further, I keep only mothers who were in the same
residence for at least a year before the birth of the child to ensure the proper matching of the mother
with the state level expenditure. Table 2 shows the distribution and use of adequate prenatal and
delivery care by different population subgroups. The use of both adequate prenatal and delivery care is
higher among mothers whose age at birth was in the 20 30 age group than among those who were
younger and older. It is lowest among those above 30, but they constitute the smallest proportion of
mothers in the sample. On the other hand, the use rate for both services decreases with parity. The
mother s education is more relevant in the use of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further, although poor individuals used public providers for prenatal care more than non poor
individuals, their use rate for delivery at public facilities was almost half that of non poor individuals.
While for the full sample, approximately 60% had delivery at home, the rate was close to 80% for the
poor.
Controlling for these factors, I find a significant positive effect of public expenditure on the use of
adequate prenatal and delivery care. Table 4 shows the coefficients and marginal effects from the logit
regressions on the effect of public expenditure on adequate prenatal and delivery care. The marginal
effects for a continuous variable in a logit model report the average change in the probability of
success for a unit change of the variable among all observations in the sample. For categorical
variables, they report the average change in the probability of success for a particular category
compared to the base category. The results show that the doubling of per capita health expenditure is
associated with a significant increase of 0.043 in the probability of both adequate prenatal and
delivery care. The use of such services increases with the mother s age at birth. This finding is similar
to the cross tabulations, except for the oldest group, which constitutes a smaller proportion of the full
sample. Additionally, the use rates for both services decrease significantly with

Mexica Vs Inca
Similar to how in the modern world how two cultures can differ greatly, India versus Canada for
example, the ancient societies of the Mexica and the Inca were very different. Such dissimilarities are
partially due to lack of communication, a problem originating in the time period in which they thrived,
being the twelfth to sixteenth centuries when they had no other means of communication besides by
foot. Despite their differences, the two peoples had many parallels regarding social norms and
hierarchies. Be it ancient Egypt, Nazi Germany, or the modern day United States, religion has yielded

In Mexica culture, calpulli were communities of cultivators that worked on land belonging to
aristocrats who had common forefathers, however after some time, the importance of familial lineage
became less important. While usually working on agriculture, some calpulli also worked on general
services to their greater societies. Comparably, the Inca cultivator peasants lived in communities
called ayllu that were like the Mexica s calpulli. Similar to the future system of feudalism, the
peasants worked on the land of an aristocrat, and most products of this work went to the upper classes.
While the Mexica and Inca lower classes resembled each other, the upper classes were disparate. In
Mexica culture, warriors were the highest on the hierarchal pyramid. Warriors were very privileged,
but the best warriors visibly distinguished themselves by wearing colorful clothing and eating
expensive food. In addition, many warriors held positions of power in the government. In Inca culture,
aristocrats and priests were at the top of the pyramid. Aristocrats set themselves apart from the
commoners by wearing clothing embroidered by the lower class and large rings or plugs in their ears.

After Constantine embrace the Christian faith was developed what I call a symbiotic relationship
between Jews and Roman because, Jews bring the Christian theology and the Roman afford their

spread through the arts like paintings, sculptures and architectures. According to Dr. Allen Farber this
interaction is clear due to the transformation of Christianity that is dramatically evident in a

post Constantinian church. During the pre Constantinian period, there was not much that distinguished
the Christian churches from typical domestic architecture.

Disease Improvement Plan
In the United States (U.S.), chronic diseases are the leading cause of death and disability. Chronic
disease activities are sparsely delivered in the U.S. despite the fact that 7 out of 10 deaths are caused
by chronic diseases, every year; and 75% of our health care costs 75% of health care costs are
attributable to preventable diseases.1,2 One main reason for this imbalance is that funding for chronic
disease prevention activities is limited. In fact, only 3% of the U.S. total health expenditure is devoted
to public health.3 The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the leading federal agency for
public health spends an estimated 70% of its budget on infection disease prevention and control, with
less than 10% of its spending devoted to chronic disease prevention.4
Background
Local public health agencies can serve as effective vehicles for delivering community based chronic

The Electronic Health Record ( Ehr ) System
The electronic health record (EHR) System is a database that contains all the details of patient s
medical status and has been designed to facilitate rapid access to such information when necessary
(Hayrian, Sarnto Nykanen, 2008). This database is advantageous for both medical practitioners and
patients as it facilitates an improvement in the level of care provided by health workers across all
departments, and has become a fundamental resource for the healthcare sector (Scott,2007). Based on
the definition declared by the health information management systems society (HIMSS), an EHR is a
detailed digital record of the medical statuses of patients based on at least one healthcare visit or
treatment program. These records provide vital information on each patient s personal details, health
concerns, progress reports, medicine administrated and prescribed, vital signs, previous medical
histories, immunization statuses, lab test reports and radiology results. The database also assist in
scheduling in the work of clinical practitioners as the EHR is capable of presenting a comprehensive
record of all treatment received by a patient across a diverse range of medical fields and supports the
use of evidence based decision making methods, quality management and the effective evaluation of
the patient outcome. In a clinical setting, the application of an EHR system will depend on a number
of technical, behavioral and management based factors. It is important to a health

Meares-Irlen Syndrome Analysis
Imagine seeing everything in blue? In November 2015 I was officially diagnosed with Meares Irlen
Syndrome. I was prescribed blue/turquoise tinted glasses and for everything to be printed on blue

want to strain my eyes, and obviously, everything is not going to be printed on blue paper. This has
impacted my life for the worse as through confidence issues I find it difficult to ask people to print my

Meares Irlen Syndrome is an incurable form of visual stress which mainly affects people with

What Is The Extraordinary And Inspirational Beauty Of A...
The Extraordinary and Inspirational Beauty of a Thangka I chose to do my research paper on the
colorful and extraordinarily detailed mural titled Dhrtarastra (Dharma King of the East Direction) with
16 Attendants by Shashi Dhoj Tulachand. Shashi is also known as Guru Nawang Chhogyall Tenzin is
a 69 year old spiritual leader of the Chhairo gompa, a branch of Tibetan Buddhism from Tuksche, a
remote village located in Mustang, Nepal s northernmost district, adjacent to Tibet. He is a master in
Buddhist thangka painting who is committed to re establishing the lost teaching tradition of Chhairo
gompa. Shashi comes from a long line of Buddhist artists, his father Kamal Dhoj Tulachan, and
grandfather were responsible for many wall paintings and statues to be found in gompas, chortens and
private household shrines in the villages of the Thak Kola and the upper Kali Gandaki area. He began
his artistic lifestyle at the young age of nine assisting his father and older brother Krsna Dhoj Tulachan
and accompanying them to villages around Mustang. By the age of 18 he had begun his first solo
project to paint the Mani Lha K an of Gemi village, Mustang. Numerous Tibetan Buddhist monks are
not necessarily trained, but have practiced Buddhism and cohesive art techniques for most of their
lives. The art pieces they made have been used to hold peace and love in these towns. It is not only a
form of art, but a wonderful spiritual practice that relies on patience and true appreciation. A thangka,
thanka or tanka is a Tibetan Buddhist painting made on cotton, or silk appliquΓ© using natural pigments
usually representing a Buddhist deity, scene, or mandala. Thangkas are traditionally kept unframed
and rolled up when not on display, mounted on a textile backing somewhat in the style of Chinese
scroll paintings, with an additional silk cover on the front. Thangkas can last a long time, but because
of their delicate nature, they have to be kept in dry places where moisture will not affect the quality of
the silk. Most thangkas are somewhat small, comparable in size to a Western half length portrait, but
some are extremely large, several meters in each dimension; these were designed to be displayed,

twelve sons who later became forefathers of the twelve tribes of Israel. Jacob wanted to reunite with
his family so he sent Esau a message asking for a kind welcome home, however Esau is heading
towards them with a small army. Jacob divided up his family so that some may escape and begged
God for protection. All night he wrestled with someone a dark angel or his fear of death. The one

Alcoholism Addiction Core
Alcoholism/Addiction Core Essay
Alcoholism is a major medical problem in today s society. Nearly everywhere you go, serves alcohol.
From the restaurants you eat at, to grocery stores, to gas stations and even places one would go for
entertainment. Alcohol has been around since biblical times and the abuse of it grows as time goes on.
For this exact reason, we are going to compare the prevalence of alcoholism and discuss other factors
about it in the following three different countries: The United States, Germany and Italy.
Before we go any further, lets learn a little bit more about alcoholism. According to Webster s New
World Dictionary, Alcoholism is the habitual or compulsive consumption of alcoholic liquor to excess.

Personally, I do not believe that taking medication will cure the problem. There needs to be a
substitution and accountability as to why the person should give their problem up. A lot of alcoholism
stems from an event or life problem the person cannot overcome. The individual has to want to do it
for themselves or someone else in their life. Step one would be counseling. Before curing a disease,
you must know what is causing it. Then, they need a challenge and a reason why they should stop.
Lastly, fill their time when they would usually drink and use it to benefit their life in a positive

The Sandwitch Factory
The Sandwich Factory
A) The short story The Sandwich Factory is written by Jason Kennedy and deals with a man s
experiences doing a low paid job at a sandwich factory. It tells the story of how the man needs to be
able to deal with a lot of things about himself and other people, to do the work and concentrate about
it. We get a very good insight into his situation, but it is very much marked by his personal thoughts
about it, and therefore it becomes more or less useless for us to relate to. It is very obvious that this
man doesn t like his job, and we even get the feeling that he doesn t like his life either.
To begin with the story takes place in the sandwich factory, where he works. He introduces us to some
of the people he works ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The manager, however, seems to think that he knows how everybody thinks, as he believes that the
employees don t like to be shunted around. It is obvious that he hasn t tried it himself. The text gives
an insight into how the managers think, and it can therefore be connected with the narrator s thoughts
in the short story. Picture 2, a still from Modern Times by Charlie Chaplin is a very interesting picture
in this situation, as it represents society s thoughts about the huge mass productions that suddenly
overwhelmed the world. The film makes fun of the massive factory production that not only made a
lot of people unemployed, but also made the world go mad. It can relate to the short story because of
the way it uses irony to deal with a huge problem.
B) The statement: a figure of speech is an expression or comparison that relies not on its literal
meaning, but on its connotations and suggestions. is a very good way of describing figures of
speeches.
Dickens seems to be using it a lot, and the text is actually very much marked by figures of speeches.
As an example there is a comparison between the color of the town and the face of a savage: [...] it

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder ( Adhd ) Essay
Today, more and more kids are unable to focus, whether it is in school, church, or even at home, it is
the same. Some draw on their notes and daydream during discussions. Others spend all their time on
one subject instead of a few. For some, the reasons are simple: Kids get bored easily. This, however, is
only mostly true. Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder is a disorder that causes a lack of attention in
those who have it, including adults. Though it is easily spotted in children due to abundant mounts of
energy and a high lack of focus, many adults who have Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder don t
know they have it. Although Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder is growing more and more
common among teens and children today, through the use of medication and therapy, those people can
learn to control and/or hide the symptoms in their adulthood. For the sake of saving from confusion
however, the disorder will just be referred to as Attention Deficit disorder (ADD), unless otherwise
noted. Hallowell s definition of ADD is a neurological syndrome whose classic defining triad of
symptoms include impulsivity, distractibility, and hyperactivity or excess energy. This is one of the
less broad definitions of ADD or ADHD given in the world today. This condition occurs in all ages
and genders, and it cuts across all religious groups, social groups, education levels, and levels of
intelligence of the world. Even today, there are about 15 million citizens of The United

Essay Comparing A Rose For Emily And A Day s Wait
Difficult times cause mental strain for many people. The first method to cope is to try to maintain
control, and the second is to lose all power and spiral into insanity. William Faulkner explored this
topic in A Rose for Emily and Ernest Hemingway in A Day s Wait . Emily Grierson took the second
path while the boy chose the higher road. Both Emily s and the boy s duress resulted in false beliefs
and rash actions.
The young boy s sickness in A Day s Wait caused psychological stress that created a mistaken idea of
his impending death.
The boy s stress stemmed from the notion that his minor epidemic of the flu would cause him to die.
Without overwhelming emotion, the boy asked what time does the man think [he is] going to die
(334). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the thought of his inevitable death, the boy stayed strong with stoic dignity and self control.
While the man tried to reassure the boy, he said he [does not] worry... but [he can not] keep from
thinking about death (334).
Reeling in his emotion, the man remarked that the boy seemed to be holding tight onto himself about
something (334).
The boy tried to remain passive and seemed detached from what was going on (333).
Emily s mental strain caused her sanity to collapse and forced reckless decisions.
Emily s insanity originated from her family and her lack of companionship. Hinting at her insanity,
Emily, when told to pay her taxes, told them to see Colonel Sartoris although he has been dead for ten
years (219).
Emily became crazy without company after her father died and her sweetheart had deserted her (219).
Her great aunt had gone completely crazy adding another component to her madness (221). Her father
had driven away all the young men leaving Emily without anyone to help her cope with pain (221).
Instead of reacting with self control, Emily spiraled downward ultimately leading to

Study Hall Hour Research Paper
Did you know that homework can actually be counterproductive? This is why all students should have
a study hall hour. Denise Pope, co author of a study published in the Journal of Experimental
Education, found that too much homework is associated with greater stress, reduction in health, and
less time for friends, family and extracurricular pursuits. Having study hall prevents the negative
effects of homework. Having study hall benefits the students as well as the teachers. Do teachers like
when students fall asleep in class because they were up late doing homework? That would change
with study hall. In Denise Pope s study 56 percent of the students considered homework a primary
stress. High school students are under a great amount of stress

Visible Minority And Immigrant Racism
Visible Minority and Immigrant Racism in the Canadian Work Environment
In the ideal world, every person is treated equally in the workplace whether it be hiring, promotion,
assignments or termination. However in reality, racial discrimination and harassment remain pervasive
in the workplace, with 1 in 4 visible minority workers who reported that they had experienced racial
harassment or discrimination in the workplace [3]. In this essay, I will be discussing the social history
of racism in the workplace, the nature of racism in the labour force, motives and factors, immigration
policies, temporary programs and exploitation of employment, the de skilling of individuals and non
recognition of foreign credentials, the social history of racism in the workplace, racism in the
sociological conflict theory paradigm, and finally, policy recommendations to aimed to eliminate and
decrease racism in the work environment. In the Canadian work environment, racism exists as a
complex and multidimensional inequality for visible minorities and immigrants, and can be examined
socially, economically and politically using the sociological Marxist conflict theory paradigm.

The Responsibility Of Abigail In The Crucible By Arthur...
I think it s the kind of events that replays itself throughout history when cultures come under stress.
When societies come under stress these kinds of things happen. People start looking around for
essentially human sacrifices. They start looking around for somebody they can blame... (Margaret
Atwood). Throughout time people have engaged in actions that they later regret and instead of taking
it upon themselves they have simply given someone else the responsibility of the blame. This lack of
blameless responsibility takes place within a character named Abigail in Arthur Miller s book, The
Crucible. Abigail is a person that her immediate reaction is to blame someone else for her actions.
Abigail, is there any other cause than you have told me, for your being discharged from Goody
Proctor s service?... Parris asked (Miller 1132). ...It s a bitter woman, a lying, cold, sniveling woman,
and I will not work for such a woman! Abigail replied (Miller 1132). Goody Proctor had suspicions of
her husband having an affair with Abigail and that is the real reason Abigail is no longer working for
the Proctors, but when Abigail was asked about the situation she of course made it seem as if it had
nothing to do with her and that she was innocent of any wrong doings. The situation that occurs with
Abigail is very similar to ones occurring today. An example from Psychology Today is that a student
gets caught cheating on a test and when he/she is caught cheating by the teacher, it

Essay On Klu Klux Klan
 Intro Extreme deviance is behavior, beliefs, or physical traits that are serious enough to cast
violators outside of the conventional society. The Klu Klux Klan is one of the most well known
deviant white supremacy groups throughout the world. The Klan promoted their white supremacy
ideas by participating in violent acts of lynching and burning crosses. They retreated into macho KKK
attacks, scourging the homes and churches with their destruction, trying to browbeat the blacks into
submission with violent outbursts and threats. However, the K.K.K. s main goal was to weaken the
reconstruction governments and retain power for the southerners who had been in confederacy. 
Norms The KKK murderers were deviant, at least according to northern white standards, but they
were the norm according to fearful southern thinking at that time. These were white men who were
hanging on a thread, afraid of true equality of the races for economic and deeply psychological and
sociological reasons. Merton s strain theory supports that disorder is sometimes an aspect of progress,
that the deviance brings attention to something that is happening within a particular context. The
whites did not murder the three individuals for the fun of it. They killed them to stop or try to stop the

The Theory Of Knowledge Is Power
Adonis Perez Professor Anderson Sociology 1 April 30, 2015 Sociology Paper Knowledge will
forever govern ignorance and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with
the power which knowledge gives James Madison In layman s terms, the quote above means to say
that knowledge is power. That whoever knows the most will be in control. This concept of power is
seen in all aspects of society worldwide. In every nation, the man that knows how to work the law to
his benefit will basically get away with anything, which is seen in the courts on a daily basis.
Someone with a higher degree of knowledge, and strong enough tenure, manages the way individuals
get educated. It is part of our reality, and in order for things to change; there must be a change in the
already instilled system. The solutions to the ongoing problem are through Ethnomethodology, which
relates to Mehans Five Features of Reality: reflexive activity, a coherent body of knowledge,
interactional activity, fragility of reality, and the permeability of reality, or through Conflict Theory.
However, even with these two methods of possible change, the possibility of change actually
occurring is slim to none. Society has complete and utter control on the individual. This can be seen in
any group of individuals ranging from the youngest to the oldest. When society has been shaped
through the mass mainstream media it forces the individual to follow in the same steps as everyone
else. If society

The Roles of Rituals in Guests of the Sheik by Elizabeth...
Every Culture has a set of rituals that they partake in, that are often constructed over a long period of
time. Simple Actions, and special moments contain so much meaning and make everlasting memories.
All rituals despite the locations they originate from, or the location they are carried out in contain the
same components, they are repetitive, symbolic, remind a certain group of people about their values
and beliefs, and these rituals commemorate a significant moment. For example christians
commemorate the birth of christ by attending mass, and many other cultures celebrate this moment in
many different ways that have in depth symbolic meaning. In the book Guests of the Sheik by
Elizabeth Warnock Fernea rituals play a major role. Fernea s husband Bob is an anthropologist
studying the occupants of a small village named El Nahra and their culture. Fernea has documented
her experiences, and adventures, and her perspective of the many rituals that the townspeople
participate in such as, Ramadan, Muharram, weddings, and pilgrimages. In Muslim culture
pilgrimages are immensely important and can even lead to an elevated status. Such as the pilgrimage
to Mecca. Fernea is able to participate in a pilgrimage to Karbala with a couple of the towns women
she had befriended. The Pilgrimage to Karbala is a symbolic, and cultural ritual in the aspect that it is
reenacted every year, and is full of symbolic meaning, commemorates an important occasion and
reminds a culture about their

Credit limits are set to manage the spending of their customers, this way Office Products Depot can
ensure that customers aren t purchasing too many goods. This means that if the customer is unable to
pay their account Office Products Depot loses say $2000 (a company s credit limit) rather than
$10000. To set these credit limits, Office Products Depot estimates the amount of money they estimate
the customer will spend over a two month period. This number is then rounded to the nearest $500 to
make recording credit limits easier. Customer payment of money owed is managed by the same
salesperson that the customer first dealt with, as they receive commission based on money received by
their particular customers. The salesperson is often in direct contact with the customer to make sure
the credit is being paid off. However, sometimes the credit limit of a particular customer can be
increased, if they have paid well in the past. An example of this is Jones Stationery, who is $300 over
their credit limit. When Office Products Depot sends invoices to their customers, they send a separate
tax invoice for each provided service. This makes the customer more aware of the each individual
charge. Monthly statements are also sent out aswell. Refunds and reductions are also given
occasionally to customers, to maintain a good relationship, and fix incorrectly recorded charges. An

Types Of Binary Fission Decay
1) Describe the difference between: autotrophs, heterotrophs, chemotrophs, and phototrophs.
Autotrophs are organisms that can synthesize their own energy supply out of inorganic matter, such as
light or chemicals Heterotrophs are organisms that cannot synthesize their own energy, so they receive
their energy by consuming organic matter, such as plants or animals. Chemotrophs are organisms that
acquire energy an oxidation reduction reaction of organic or inorganic chemicals; this meaning the
electron donors of that environment have become oxidized. Phototrophs are organisms that solely use
light as the energy source to produce nutrients, such as the process of photosynthesis.
2) Describe purpose and steps of binary fission. Also, explain how binary fission is described
mathematically and graphically and identify the two interchangeable terms used to describe this
growth.
Binary fission is the process in which a cell grows twice its normal size, and then the cell divides in
half to produce two daughter cells. This process is carried out by unicellular organisms because it is
their only way of reproduction. The cell begins this process by replicating the cell s DNA, and the
duplicated chromosomes attach to the cytoplasmic membrane or microtubules. Once attached, these
attachment sites push the chromosomes apart to expand the entire cell body. The cell now produces a
new cytoplasmic membrane, and along the mid line of the cell a septum begins to form. Upon

disorders and anorexia. The opposing side to this topic says that media does not play a role in anorexia
because of environmental factors, exercising, and dieting. People that support this side like Adam

Cresswell states Eating disorders are a product of epigenetics is good news for parents and carers, who

Spain brought a sort of diplomacy with them when they tried to coexist their culture and peoples with
that of the native inhabitants of Florida. This approach was probably just as much done out of
necessity than modern European kindness, because the Spanish settlers who founded the string of
settlement towns in Florida were vastly outnumbered by their Indian counterparts. The Spanish in
Florida depended on Indian labor for many of the tasks they were trying to accomplish, and out of
respect for the Indians the Spanish crown allowed for certain rights for the Indians to have in order
that the two cultures could live side by side while benefiting each other. The leaders of the Spanish
colonies held Indian Chiefs in high regards and granted them all of the awards that would be bestowed
upon a man of Spanish royalty. According to the Spanish way of thinking in the 16th century, it was
necessary for the Indian leaders to pledge allegiance as allies to Spain and through the allegiance of
the chiefs would come the allegiance of the men and women that the chiefs ruled over. The Spanish
Crown granted the natives rights such as a representatives known as a defender of the Indians in court

  • 2. Dizzy Gelespie (John Birks Gillespie) Essay The people of today, raised by the sounds of The Beatles and Pearl Jam have forgotten all about the musicians that paved the way for these artists, and the musical styles that evolved into rock and roll, rhythm and blues and rap or hip hop. Unfortunately the music that once dominated the night clubs, restaurants, and radio stations is now heard only in elevators or when we go to a grandparents house to visit. What is left of jazz are small portions of the music that people take and sample with in a new song. Jazz and its historical figures have mistreated and forgotten by today s society. One of the figure most forgotten is John Birks Gillespie, known to the jazz world as quot;Dizzy quot; Gillespie. quot;Dizzy quot; Gillespie was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gillespie admired the style and work of Roy Elridge so much that he started to sound like Elridge. Some time later Gillespie was hired in a band because he played with Elridge=s style so well. In his studies he would transcribe or learn the notes and phrases that Elridge would play during his solos (Powis, 58). Although to become a Jazz musician, Gilllespie did not idolize only jazz musicians, he also greatly enjoyed listening to and examining the styles of musicians like Stravinsky, a virtuoso composer of the classic period, and Maurice Ravel another composer, famous for works like quot;Bolero quot;, a piece that consisted of a phrase that repeated over and over, each time getting louder and thicker (Powis, 58). Dizzy unfortunately was to be later recognized by many for his many distinguishable trademarks instead of the musical proficiency he worked so hard for. He was famous for his sense of humor. At a performance Dizzy asked the audience if he could introduce the band. The audience replied swiftly quot;yes quot;. He than began introducing the saxophone player to the drummer and the trumpet player to the trombonist and so forth (Wastrous, January 17). He also expressed his incredible humor within his music as well. In his own interpretation of the spiritual, quot;Swing Low Sweet Chariot, quot; Gillespie develops the song into quot;Swing low Sweet Cadillac. quot; He had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Restoration Movement In Bill Humble s book: Story Of The Restoration, he does an excellent and concise job covering this time period. His information packed sentences and logical flow make this a well worth read. The Restoration Movement bears significance today as is did from its beginning. Humble notes that, The Restoration Movement began in America about 1800, nearly 200 years after the first English settlements in the New World. (Humble 1). The New World was very diverse religiously compared to Europe where Catholicism was prominent. The author goes on to list several of the main religious groups that colonized the New World. Anglicanism became the state church in Virginia, and Maryland was mostly Catholic. In Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He notes: The decade following the Civil War saw a division in the Church in the North. One point of contention was missionary societies between Isaac Errett and Benjamin Franklin. The Louisville Plan restructured the Society with the aim of maintaing peace in the brotherhood (Humble 57). The restructuring however ultimately failed for lack of funds. The question of instrumental music was asked in 1851, and the discussion broadened between 1864 1865 when W. K. Pendleton saw instruments as mere expediency. Some, such as McGarvey and Moses E. Lard, stood fast in opposing the use of instruments. Another conservative, Benjamin Franklin, said: Better is poor singing where love is, than the grandest tones of the organ and hatred therewith. (Humble 60). In 1906 the Churches of Christ and the Christian Church were officially listed separately in the United States Census. This was mostly based on the use of instruments or not. Humble notes: In 1896 J.D. Tant estimated that more than a hundred Texas congregations had divided over the use of instrumental music. (Humble 65). Nevertheless, in 1916, Churches of Christ in Texas were more numerous than Christian Churches (Humble 66). Division seemed to be spotlighted in progressives and conservatives, but division abounded in each group as well. For example, many conservatives agreed against societies and instruments, but ... • 4. Impact of the Recession on the US Auto Industry Essay Introduction As the nation was introduced into the current recession, the auto industry and its labor was likely hurt more than any other industry. Few years ago it was the homebuilding industry that was troubled the most and held the first place, but it gave that position over to the auto industry the following year. Why was this industry affected more than any other is very interesting and complex situation. There are several factors why there was such a huge negative impact on this industry, its performance, and the labor involved. Some of the major reasons are very high foreign competition, higher oil prices, and certainly the recession. The Auto Industry In the United States, modern car manufacturing has been historically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ford s F Series experienced a 46% drop in sales for 2006 compared to 2007, making a once most wanted truck in the United States almost abandoned by the consumers. The second and the current recession that began in 2007 brought a new wave of impact on the auto industry. At the time banks were more flexible with approving loans and the interest rates were low which attracted a lot of consumers into the housing market. Since many of them were not able to afford it, eventually they turned to foreclosure leaving them with debt and no credit worthiness; thus, banks started raising the interest rates on auto loans. But foreign competition, higher oil prices, and higher interest rates were not enough to destabilize the auto industry on such a scale; it was the recession that shocked it the most. According to Martin B. Zimmerman, Chief Economist and Executive Director for Governmental Relations and Corporate Economics Ford Motor Co., it is the auto industry that depends on economic cycles more than any other industry. Drastic manufacturing cost cutting continued for the next two years until there was almost nothing more to reduce or lay off. This downturn of the economy began a long lasting unemployment rise in Michigan that eventually reached 15.3%. In 2009, according to the Chicago Fed, there were more unemployed auto ... • 5. Analysis Of The Play A Midsummer Night Dream This is the first section where I m going to discuss the overview of this play. The message in the play Chicago was society always want to seek happiness through seeking people s approval, but this will conclude into the exact opposite, and this was portrayed through the life of Roxie Hart. I saw the play Chicago on May 4, 2017 at 8 p.m. I was seated center row A seat 106. The cost of the ticket was approximately $11 since I purchased it in a package with the play A Midsummer Night Dream which costed me $22 for the set. There were way more people in the audience than the A Midsummer Night Dream play since the theater was way bigger. The audience were very into the play as when every time a scene or a song ends, the audience show their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion, this is definitely a musical play. All the characters dialogues were through singing. The characters were basically singing their messages across, and it works. In my opinion, they spoke in a sort of high pitched voice. They spoke with very high confidence, and I haven t really noticed a flaw or mess up during the play. No actors in the play really stuttered, and it seem like they spoke/sang their lines perfectly. This is the third section where I m going to discuss the director and the performers. In my opinion, all the performers did great from the main casts to the extras to the background people playing music. I felt like Gabrielle Rochblatt, the person that played Roxie Hart did a great job with singing and acting. There is a reason why Gabrielle was given the task to play Roxie Hart which is the main character and basically had the most line out of any characters. Gabrielle had this charisma when she say her lines or sing. Her character, Roxie Hart will do something that can make her seem like a villain, but for some reason, it s hard to dislike her. Yes, it can be because she is also a protagonist character, but I feel part of it has to do with Gabrielle charismatic performance on stage. Her looks also fit her role as well. The producers were very smart when choosing her for this role. Gabrielle had the total package. A lot of times, many people are capable of acting, but it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Acute Failure And Chronic Failure CHF occurs when the heart is no longer able to adequately pump blood causing a decrease in nutrients and oxygen to the body. The term CHF has widely been replaced by the terms acute failure and chronic failure because not all types of heart failure are accompanied by pulmonary congestion. However, in this pt s case, she suffered from severe edema and fluid build up in the lungs due to the failure. CHF is generally precipitated by other cardiac related conditions including, HTN, CAD, and past MIs, all of which are present in this pt s history (Lewis, Heitkemper, Dirksen, Bucher, Camera, 2014). The heart is responsible for moving the body s blood, and is primarily composed of cardiac muscle. Similar to skeletal muscle, the cells are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This transfer of ions is what generates the electrical impulse of the heart and causes the heart to act as a single unit instead of individual cells (Marieb Hoehn, 2013). Cardiac conduction occurs because there are gap junctions for ions to pass through and because of the heart s intrinsic conduction system, which is composed of non contractile cardiac cells that are specifically designed to start and distribute electric impulses through the cardiac cells so that depolarization and contractions are orderly and sequential. The contractile cells sustain stable membrane resting potential when they are unstimulated, however, the resting potential of the autorhythmic cells, that create the intrinsic conduction system, is unstable and is constantly depolarizing, which is called pacemaker potentials and initiate the action potential that causes the heart to contract (Marieb Hoehn, 2013). The pace maker potential occurs because of the ion channels which causes hyperpolarization at the end of the action potentials. This hyperpolarization causes the K+ channels to close while simultaneously opening the Na+ channels, which allows an imbalance of K+ and Na+ to occur making the cardiac cells to become more positive. When the pacemaker potential is reached at around ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Outline and evaluate Bruce and Young s theory of face... The face recognition model developed by Bruce and Young has eight key parts and it suggests how we process familiar and unfamiliar faces, including facial expressions. The diagram below shows how these parts are interconnected. Structural encoding is where facial features and expressions are encoded. This information is translated at the same time, down two different pathways, to various units. One being expression analysis, where the emotional state of the person is shown by facial features. By using facial speech analysis we can process auditory information. This was shown by McGurk (1976) who created two video clips, one with lip movements indicating Ba and other indicating Fa . Both clips had the sound Ba played over the clip. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also unclear if it is the brain injury itself that causes the result and if it is the same for healthy people. There was a study done by Young, Hay, and Ellis (1985) that uses people with no medical issues. They asked people to keep a diary record of problems they experienced in face recognition. They found people never reported putting a name to a face while knowing nothing else about that person. This supports the model as it suggests that we cannot think of a person s name unless we know other contextual information about them. Prosopagnosia is a condition where a person cannot recognise familiar faces, but only the features, not the whole face. The condition contradicts the model as it suggests that the process are most likely not separate. As most patients had severe problems with facial expression as well as facial identity, this suggests they are processed separately. The model can also be seen as reductionist, as it only gives a vague description of what the cognitive system does. However, there is research that does support the concept that there are two are separate paths for processing face recognition and facial expression. One being Humphreys, Avidan, and Behrmann (2007) who studied three participants with developmental prosopagnosia. All three had poor ability to recognise faces, but their ability to recognise facial expressions was similar to that of healthy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is a quote expressed by Sirius Black who is Harry Potter s uncle in the series written by J.K. Dobby is a slave to an evil family and is not use to receiving kind words at all. He comes to Harry Potter s house to help him, and his surprised of how well a wizard is treating him. Like everyone in the wizarding world, he has heard of the famous Harry Potter who has defeated evil Lord Voldemort twice. He has never met Harry Potter, so he has not personally been on the receiving end of Harry Potter s ability to be a good friend to everyone. Normally, wizards look down to house elves and treat them poorly. Harry Potter is such a good friend to everyone that he sees no need to treat anyone poorly. Another example of Harry Potter being a good friend comes from Harry Potter and Sorcerer s Stone while Harry and Hermione are having a conversation. I m not as good as you, said Harry, very embarrassed, as she let go of him. Me! said Hermione. Books! And cleverness! There are more important things friendship and bravery and oh Harry be careful! (Rowling 287). This quote is a conversation between Harry and his best friend Hermione about the characteristics of the two. Hermione is incredibly smart and loves to learn, and Harry makes a comment about how he is not as good in school as she is. She thinks that Harry s best qualities, friendship and bravery, are much more important. Hermione has been friends with Harry a very short period of time when she says this, so it is proof that the quality of his friendship is evident to all who are around him. There are many examples throughout the whole series that show how good of a friend Harry is and these are just two of them. Harry s character of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Similarities Between Orangutans And The Great Apes Within the world of primates, the family Hominidae includes the primates known as the great apes. These primates, are then broken down into two subfamilies. One subfamily contains the primates chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas and humans, while the other subfamily, Ponginae, only contains the species Pongo, commonly known as the orangutan. Orangutans, although closely related to the other great apes, represent a lot of extremes in biological parameters (Campbell, C. J., 2011). One of the most drastic extremes is that orangutans are the largest primary arboreal mammal in the world. This is a result of special evolutionary adaptations that allow these primates to mechanically function in an arboreal lifestyle. Unlike the other great apes, ... It is interesting to note that the section also notes the various methods these orangutans were being hunted, killed or used by its enemies. It concludes describing an old misconception of how an orangutan s great strength and ferocity render them dangerous. We now know that these animals are actually very rarely aggressive, but rather solitary social creatures. The common theme of primates being dangerous and monsters can be across various historical writings. Orangutans, endemic now only in the southeast rainforests of Asia, were once found throughout Asia (Campbell, C. J., 2011). Since 2001, there have only been two species of orangutan identified, the Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abeli) and the Bornean Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) (Nater, A., et al. 2017). However, recent research, to be published later this month, has identified a new third species of orangutan, Pongo tapanuliensis. This species of orangutans, found south of Lake Toba, was once grouped with the Sumatran Orangutans, however, recent genetic testing has identified them as a completely different species from those orangutans found north of Lake Toba. Orangutans all face major issues in terms of numbers with all species marked as either endangered or critically endangered due to hunting pressure and habitat destruction. Controlling for these factors, I find a significant positive effect of public expenditure on the use of adequate prenatal and delivery care. Table 4 shows the coefficients and marginal effects from the logit regressions on the effect of public expenditure on adequate prenatal and delivery care. The marginal effects for a continuous variable in a logit model report the average change in the probability of success for a unit change of the variable among all observations in the sample. For categorical variables, they report the average change in the probability of success for a particular category compared to the base category. The results show that the doubling of per capita health expenditure is associated with a significant increase of 0.043 in the probability of both adequate prenatal and delivery care. Shashi comes from a long line of Buddhist artists, his father Kamal Dhoj Tulachan, and grandfather were responsible for many wall paintings and statues to be found in gompas, chortens and private household shrines in the villages of the Thak Kola and the upper Kali Gandaki area. He began his artistic lifestyle at the young age of nine assisting his father and older brother Krsna Dhoj Tulachan and accompanying them to villages around Mustang. By the age of 18 he had begun his first solo project to paint the Mani Lha K an of Gemi village, Mustang. • 31. The Theory Of Knowledge Is Power Adonis Perez Professor Anderson Sociology 1 April 30, 2015 Sociology Paper Knowledge will forever govern ignorance and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives James Madison In layman s terms, the quote above means to say that knowledge is power. That whoever knows the most will be in control. This concept of power is seen in all aspects of society worldwide. In every nation, the man that knows how to work the law to his benefit will basically get away with anything, which is seen in the courts on a daily basis. Someone with a higher degree of knowledge, and strong enough tenure, manages the way individuals get educated. It is part of our reality, and in order for things to change; there must be a change in the already instilled system. The solutions to the ongoing problem are through Ethnomethodology, which relates to Mehans Five Features of Reality: reflexive activity, a coherent body of knowledge, interactional activity, fragility of reality, and the permeability of reality, or through Conflict Theory. However, even with these two methods of possible change, the possibility of change actually occurring is slim to none. Society has complete and utter control on the individual. This can be seen in any group of individuals ranging from the youngest to the oldest. When society has been shaped through the mass mainstream media it forces the individual to follow in the same steps as everyone else. If society ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Roles of Rituals in Guests of the Sheik by Elizabeth... Every Culture has a set of rituals that they partake in, that are often constructed over a long period of time. Simple Actions, and special moments contain so much meaning and make everlasting memories. All rituals despite the locations they originate from, or the location they are carried out in contain the same components, they are repetitive, symbolic, remind a certain group of people about their values and beliefs, and these rituals commemorate a significant moment. For example christians commemorate the birth of christ by attending mass, and many other cultures celebrate this moment in many different ways that have in depth symbolic meaning. In the book Guests of the Sheik by Elizabeth Warnock Fernea rituals play a major role. Fernea s husband Bob is an anthropologist studying the occupants of a small village named El Nahra and their culture. Fernea has documented her experiences, and adventures, and her perspective of the many rituals that the townspeople participate in such as, Ramadan, Muharram, weddings, and pilgrimages. In Muslim culture pilgrimages are immensely important and can even lead to an elevated status. Such as the pilgrimage to Mecca. Fernea is able to participate in a pilgrimage to Karbala with a couple of the towns women she had befriended. The Pilgrimage to Karbala is a symbolic, and cultural ritual in the aspect that it is reenacted every year, and is full of symbolic meaning, commemorates an important occasion and reminds a culture about their ... Informative Speech Outline About Music Accounts Receivable Office Products Depot The interview with Colin Smith, from Office Products Depot, meant I was able to identify the accounts receivable subsystem they used and their accounts receivable management. I focussed on their policies for the offering and checking of credit, managing credit levels, charging the credit customers, receiving payment from credit customers and the general management of credit customers. I will be using the information from the interview with Colin as well as information from fictitious accounts receivable to explain their policies. When Office Products Depot decides to potentially offer credit to a customer, they check credit ratings and follow policies to help them decide if they should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Credit limits are set to manage the spending of their customers, this way Office Products Depot can ensure that customers aren t purchasing too many goods. This means that if the customer is unable to pay their account Office Products Depot loses say $2000 (a company s credit limit) rather than $10000. To set these credit limits, Office Products Depot estimates the amount of money they estimate the customer will spend over a two month period. This number is then rounded to the nearest $500 to make recording credit limits easier. Customer payment of money owed is managed by the same salesperson that the customer first dealt with, as they receive commission based on money received by their particular customers. The salesperson is often in direct contact with the customer to make sure the credit is being paid off. However, sometimes the credit limit of a particular customer can be increased, if they have paid well in the past. An example of this is Jones Stationery, who is $300 over their credit limit. When Office Products Depot sends invoices to their customers, they send a separate tax invoice for each provided service. This makes the customer more aware of the each individual charge. Monthly statements are also sent out aswell. Refunds and reductions are also given occasionally to customers, to maintain a good relationship, and fix incorrectly recorded charges. • 34. Types Of Binary Fission Decay 1) Describe the difference between: autotrophs, heterotrophs, chemotrophs, and phototrophs. Autotrophs are organisms that can synthesize their own energy supply out of inorganic matter, such as light or chemicals Heterotrophs are organisms that cannot synthesize their own energy, so they receive their energy by consuming organic matter, such as plants or animals. Chemotrophs are organisms that acquire energy an oxidation reduction reaction of organic or inorganic chemicals; this meaning the electron donors of that environment have become oxidized. Phototrophs are organisms that solely use light as the energy source to produce nutrients, such as the process of photosynthesis. 2) Describe purpose and steps of binary fission. Also, explain how binary fission is described mathematically and graphically and identify the two interchangeable terms used to describe this growth. Binary fission is the process in which a cell grows twice its normal size, and then the cell divides in half to produce two daughter cells. This process is carried out by unicellular organisms because it is their only way of reproduction. The cell begins this process by replicating the cell s DNA, and the duplicated chromosomes attach to the cytoplasmic membrane or microtubules. Once attached, these attachment sites push the chromosomes apart to expand the entire cell body. The cell now produces a new cytoplasmic membrane, and along the mid line of the cell a septum begins to form. Upon completion of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ninety Percent are women (Anorexia Nervosa Part 1 1). Anorexia is defined as an emotional disorder characterized by refusing to diet or eat. This is targeting young girls all across the world! This calamity is struck by something every person loves, social media. The media realm needs to be ceased from the websites that support dieting, celebrities displaying perfectionist bodies, and the social media world: their main victim to such disease are young teens. This is a real life example of how even just a website like this one can lead young teens and even young adults to eating disorders and anorexia. The opposing side to this topic says that media does not play a role in anorexia because of environmental factors, exercising, and dieting. People that support this side like Adam Cresswell and Sarrah Le Marquand state that anorexia is not caused by society or the media world. Cresswell states Eating disorders are a product of epigenetics is good news for parents and carers, who often wring their hands, asking: what did I do wrong (Cresswell 1). Cresswell is wrong by this fact in the actual fact that if a young teen is suffering from anorexia, then the parents should be worried about their child and get that child help. No child or adult should have to suffer from such disease. Cresswell also states These can be early life pressures, stress, and ultimately dieting, he says. For some people, dieting can be really dangerous behavior. The reduction in certain nutrients can alter gene expression (Cresswell 1 2). Cresswell is right about how dangerous dieting can be, because it is, but television advertises all of these new diet methods and how to exceed these plans, internet sites give lists of different dieting options, and these are examples of how media pushes some people that live in this ... O Neal Miguel Vargas 11 20 15 1st hour Mr. O Neal Before Europeans had ever set foot on North America the continent was a vast land made up of various Native American nations that had their own distinct cultures, history and social hierarchies. The Natives here possessed all of the aspects that human beings all over the world incorporated into their societies. They had social structures, trade routes and relationships between various Native groups and were by no means a cluster of heathens waiting to be discovered by white Europeans who would come to claim the land they have lived on for thousands of years. Spain brought a sort of diplomacy with them when they tried to coexist their culture and peoples with that of the native inhabitants of Florida. This approach was probably just as much done out of necessity than modern European kindness, because the Spanish settlers who founded the string of settlement towns in Florida were vastly outnumbered by their Indian counterparts. The Spanish in Florida depended on Indian labor for many of the tasks they were trying to accomplish, and out of respect for the Indians the Spanish crown allowed for certain rights for the Indians to have in order that the two cultures could live side by side while benefiting each other. The leaders of the Spanish colonies held Indian Chiefs in high regards and granted them all of the awards that would be bestowed upon a man of Spanish royalty. According to the Spanish way of thinking in the 16th century, it was necessary for the Indian leaders to pledge allegiance as allies to Spain and through the allegiance of the chiefs would come the allegiance of the men and women that the chiefs ruled over. The Spanish Crown granted the natives rights such as a representatives known as a defender of the Indians in court proceedings and actually let them be involved in court proceedings which is more than the English would have done in their ...
