Comparing Neil Gaiman And The Wolves In The Walls
Neil Gaiman has a unique style of writing that is unlike any other writer of today. He is able to
create fantastical, eerie stories seems painfully real and largely humorous. However, the most
interesting quality about Gaiman and his writings is not his uniqueness, but his ability to use
whatever medium of print to its fullest. Whether it be the novelwith The Graveyard Book, the
children s book with The Wolves in the Walls, or the graphic novel with The Sandman: Dream
Country, Neil Gaimanexpertly uses the pages and text to be something quite meaningful to the
readers. The works themselves are distinctively Gaiman in tone and style, containing elements that
continue to make him a popular modern writer. These three works of Neil Gaiman explore... Show

The Graveyard Book s conclusion hinged on Bod s ability to think outside the box and defeat
evil. The Wolves in the Walls was essentially a celebration of childhood imagination. The
Sandman: Dream Country depicts dreams as the very thing that makes us humans different
from the animal kingdom. Good versus evil is a theme in all these works, even if somewhat
heavy handed at times. There is Bod, Scarlett, and the graveyard versus the Jacks of All Trade.
Then, there is the family versus the wolves. And then, there is Dream versus the evils within
particular human beings. Good versus evil is a pretty clear theme in all of the works, in which
good always prevails. A much smaller theme in these works is that of commitment. It is present
in The Graveyard Book when whole graveyard commits to raising Bod as a community. It is
present in The Wolves in the Walls when the family as a whole returns to their home to live and
the wolves invaded. It is even present in The Sandman: Dream Country s A Midsummer Night s
Dream when William Shakespeare honors his promise to Dream about writing a play for him.
Lastly, one of the major themes that these works share is that everything must end. In end of The
Graveyard Book, Bod must leave his family and home to start his next journey in life. The children
s book The Wolves in the Walls was much less bleak with this theme, softening it by making events
more cyclical in

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Music Stageing
Staging Stage Location One main stage established at the central of the venue where is near the
one of the exit. The opening ceremony held at the stage. Also, live music and performance at the
stage will indulge the crowd from day till night. When finished the performance on the stage, the
participants could evacuate quickly because the exit is very close with the stage. The location
of stage is beneficial for the crowd control. Well Stage Design Besides, the venue has done very
well in stage design. LED backdrops and eye attracting decoration were on the stage it seems
that the stage has been delicately designed. Participants could see the stage clearly as a big
screen is setting at the central of the stage. The stage color is aligning with the event theme color
which is purple. In addition, some stage special effects designed for the performance such as the
lighting decoration is moving with music and spray the colored ribbon and balloon on the stage at
the end of a live music. Behind the stage, a particular booth purpose build for a professional team

disadvantage about the staging. Participants could sit on the front of the stage enjoying the shows

Slopestyle Snowboarding
Imagine this: you re on the starting line, feet strapped firmly into boots on your snowboard. The
start horn sounds, and you re off, flying down the slope, jumping obstacles and landing tricks.
Slopestyle snowboarding has gained popularity as an Olympic sport, even if it is pretty young.
The lack of time the sport has been around doesn t mean it isn t well developed. It has a history,
and many people competing with a set scoring system and rules. Bored Americans who had way too
much time on their hands created snowboarding. In the decade of the 60s, snowboarding was born,
getting more interesting as skateboarders and surfers joined the early developers of the sport. As
the sport gained popularity, it also gained it s haters mainly skiers.... Show more content on

According to the Federation International de Ski (FIS), overall impression is the main scoring
method. Half a dozen judges score adversaries on the tricks they perform. Diversity,
implementation, and complexity of the tricks as well as landing in the sweet spot will all
impact the point total (McMahon). The more technically perfect a run is and the harder the
tricks performed will result in a higher score. Compared to some other Olympic sports,
snowboarding could be referred to as still a fledgling. However, the sport is becoming as trendy
as some of the older winter sports. I also find it slightly ironic that the FIS, a skiing organization,
scores snowboarding when it was skiers who were originally against the sport. People from all
nations score big by landing impressive tricks. The variation of nationalities that snowboarders
come from means that no matter where you come from, there is someone in this event you can
cheer for.

Np Case Study National Hockey
The National Hockey League (NHL) was established in 1917. During the following two decades
teams entered and exited, leaving six survivors (also know as the original six: Montreal
Canadians, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, Chicago Black Hawks, Detroit Red Wings and
Toronto Maple Leafs). In 1967, the NHL double from six to twelve teams, with all new teams
located in the United States. Between 1970 and 1980 an additional ten teams entered the league and
during the 1990s five teams were admitted to the NHL.
The 26 teams in the league are the basic drivers of the NHL s financial performance, which gain

In the U.S., football, basketball and baseball enjoy a larger fan base than hockey, which is
reflected in the higher percentages of Big Fans in all of these three sports while over 61 percent of
the U.S. respondents reported that they were not interested in hockey (Exhibit 13 and 14). In Canada

Rhetorical Analysis Of Black Power
Stokely Carmichael (aka Kwame Ture), was the first person to coin the slogan Black Power in
reaction to a shooting of a civil rights activist provocatively on June 16th, 1966. Ture originally
brandished the term in an unclear way, so both his supporters and critics can find their own
interpretation of the meaning. Black Power was described as a way for black peoplein this country
to unite, to recognize their heritage, to build a sense of community. It is a call for black people
to get to define their own goals, to lead their own organizations to resist the racist institutions and
values of this society, said by Ture and Charles V. Hamilton in a book called, Black Power: The
Politics of Liberation. Although the term was used as a sense of power, to whites it was a sign of
a revolution for violence and hatred towards white supremacy.... Show more content on

Black Power is not meant to degrade white people, it s meant to equalize both by reversing
discrimination and racism that is already put into place. Although many people can display
many feelings of racism, racism itself is not based on feelings. Racism is a system of oppression
perpetrated by an entire group, civilization, country, etc. So to say blacks do not have any such
power to oppress whites on a scale large enough to be deemed racism and their lies in the issue.

Implementing A Big Data Database Platform
Abstract
The primary objective of the document is to detail the steps necessary to implement a Big Data
database platform to achieve what is called an Enterprise Data Lake and to improve Enterprise
Data Hub where all data stored in one place and integrated with existing infrastructure and tools.
Relevance
Presently, I am working as a Database developer in a Software company. My primary role is to help
my clients in implementing appropriate database architecture and analyzing data so that my clients
can understand their users better.
Introduction
The purpose of the research is to collect information and best practices available on the web
relevant to implementing Big Data. A secondary purpose is to conduct research on different types
of big data frame work.
Problem Statement
(EDH) is an Enterprise Data hub where all data stored in one place and integrated with existing
infrastructure and tools. EDH makes information and data accessible to everyone via tools and
application. To Establish Big Data framework as enterprise data hub (EDH) for storing all data,
leverage EDH for following areas:
Build scalable data platform for Security Analytics and Technical Support analytics. Efficient ways
to store large amount of event or machine data; keep security data for longer periods of time to
perform analysis on the data. Architectural advantages allow handling larger amounts of data very
quickly, and scaling up with the number of events being generated. A variety of analytics can

Influence Of Chuck Berry On The Development Of Rock Roll
The influence of Chuck Berry on the development of rock roll.
A great analogy that I came
across while doing some reading and research for this paper was If Elvis Presley cracked open the
door for rock roll, Chuck Berry kicked it wide open (Rock Roll Hall of Fame). I believe that this is
a great way to visualize how great of an influence Elvis Presley was and just how great Chuck Berry
was on rock and roll in comparison to him. To me think about that is just mind blowing. I truly
believe after working on this paper that Chuck Berry was one of the most popular and influential
performers of all time in the genres of rhythm and blues as well as rock n roll. All this had taken
place during the 1950s on through the 1970s. He s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Rock Roll Hall of Fame) Shortly after all that Chuck Berry was very quick to follow with a
bundle of other unique singles that seemed to continue to mold out what appeared to be the new
genre of rock n roll. These single included Roll Over, Beethoven, Too Much Monkey Business
and Brown Eyed Handsome Man, these are just a few songs among many others. Chuck Berry
had managed to achieve crossover appeal with white youths without alienating his black fans by
mixing blues and R B sounds with storytelling that spoke to the universal themes of youth
(Encyclopedia of World Biography). In the late 1950s, songs like Johnny B. Goode, Sweet Little
Sixteen and Carol had all made the Top 10 chart of pop music by accomplishing the equal
popularity with youths on both sides of the racial divide (Biography.com. A E Networks
Television). I made records for people who would buy them, Berry said. No color, no ethnic, no
political I don t want that, never did. (Rolling Stone)
Chuck Berry at this point had a climbing music career that would eventually have a great decline
in 1961. He had been convicted under the Mann Act because he was illegally transporting woman
across state lines for immoral purposes. (Rock Roll Hall of Fame). What would have been three
years earlier, in 1958, Chuck Berry had opened his own Club Bandstand. He did this in what was a
predominantly white business district of downtown St. Louis. That next year, while

World Series Research Paper
The World Series is a big event that happens in MLB every year at the end of the season to see who
is the best team in the MLB. The World Series began in the year of 1903 and it has been going
on until present time. The New York Yankees were a great team throughout the 1998 season.
They had a great winning record the a MLB team could ever have; going with a record of 114 wins
and 46 six loses in the regular season. In 1998, the New York Yankees
and the San Diego Padres
had met at the World Series. it was said that the Yanks were having a great spring training. During

David Wells, better known as The Boomer took the hill for the home team against Kevin Brown

replaced by Mark Langston who was replaced by Brian Boehringer who was sadly replaced by
Randy Myers. However, no reliever from the Padres could match with the Yankees starter jeff
Nelson and their reliever Mariano Rivera, who had closed the game on the Padres 9 to 6.
As you can see that year was a great year for the New York Yankees. As they won the World Series
in the year of 1998 on my birth year. Even though they won it easily they had to go through a lot of
practice and training. They went through tough teams. Even though the had gone through tough

Character Analysis Of Black Swan
In the film, Black Swan, the plot centers on Nina Sayers, a ballerina whose only goal is to play
the role of the Black and White Swan in her company s production of Tchaikovsky s Swan Lake
ballet. While she easily embodies into the innocence and grace of the White Swan, her shy and
fragile personality does not fit the seductiveness and mysteriousness of the Black Swan. As a
result, she struggles to become the opposite of who she is, worsening her issues with depression
and anorexia. In the beginning of the film, Nina was depicted as an average, normal person
living in New York that yet lacked the freedom to express herself as a sexually free, young
woman due to her mother s controlling behavior. When she wins the coveted Swan Queen role,
the feeling of immense pressure that comes with the role causes Nina to lose her tenuous grip
on reality and descend into a living nightmare. For example, she experiences symptoms such as
interpreting normal behavior from Lily as an attack because of Nina s jealousy toward Lily s
effortless embodiment of the Black Swan (Schacter, Gilbert, Wegner, Nock, 2014). Nina s
attention to negative behavior to Lily is a result of her own imagination she starts conceiving
events that did not happen such as a lesbian fling with Lily and her constant attempts to sabotage
Nina s ability to perform as the Swan Queen. In addition, she suffers through hallucinatory
episodes that involve bodily horror, such as her skin tearing off her body and the appearance of
an evil twin, every time she reaches a step closer to her full transformation of the Swan Queen.
In addition, she has developed an eating disorder called anorexia nervosa to meet the standard
body image required for dancers. While her loss of appetite only becomes worse as the film
progresses, this issue seems to have existed before the events of the Swan Lake production.
Ultimately, Nina becomes so trapped in the world of Swan Lake that she forgets about the real
world and truly becomes both the White Swan and Black Swan. However, her mind is unable to
harbor both forces on a physical and psychological level, and as a result, she unconsciously
chooses to commit suicide. Natalie Portman s portrayal of Nina s depression and anorexia

Mowgli s Brother Imperialism
Imperialism is shown in the most unexpected places. Rudyard Kipling shows this in the multiple
stories in his book The Jungle. Mowgli s Brother is a story that tells how a boy named Mowgli
became a member of a wolf pack. The characters in the Jungle Book show British for British rule,
British for Indian rule, Indian for Indian rule, and Indian for British rule. Imperialism is shown
with people coming into a group with out any warning, people wanting to rule and do what ever
they want, and people voting for someone to be in a group. Imperialism was shown in the story
Mowglis Brothers from the Jungle book. Mowgli was the boy that was living with the pack of

Baloo and Bagheera are British for Indian freedom because they both agreed that Mowgli should

brown bear who teaches the wolf cubs the Law of the Jungle ... The man s cub the man s cub ... I

help Mowgli become a so called wolf in the pack and he will teach him like he taught the other
wolf cubs. Bagheera is the other animal that is allowed to participate in the wolves council.
Baheera also spoke on behalf of Mowgli to be in the wolves pack, Now to Baloo s word I will

the Law of the Jungle to his advantage and was able to get the wolves to agree that Mowgli
could be part of the pack. Although its was hidden Mowgli s Brothers demonstrates imperialism
in a story. Some people like the indians would be able to fight for what they want but many could
only vote to make a difference. Others decided that they could go wherever they want and be able
to control whoever they felt. Then there were some that were British but were on the Indians side.

Descriptive Use Of Imagery In Macbeth By William Shakespeare
Stories have an incredible ability to make readers see without using their eyes. Words that are
carefully placed together can create strong moments and feeling that the reader can easily
visualize. A writer and author who had best mastered this skill was William Shakespeare. Even
though Shakespeare wrote plays that were eventually performed live, he was still able to use
imagery to describe scenes that did not take place on stage. Because Shakespeare successfully
understood human nature, his imagery made the plays he wrote more emotional and complex.
Imagery can be described in several different ways. Visual imagery is one that most readers are
familiar with. This is when the writer uses descriptive words to create an image in the reader s
minds. For example, saying the girls golden hair glittered in the sunlight or the stars speckled
the dark sky like precious jewels would create a distinct picture. Another type of imagery is
olfactory imagery. This is when descriptive words are used to create a smell. This can become a
powerful tool since humans are able to remember smells longer than any other sense they posses.
Auditory imagery is when a reader can hear sounds when reading certain text. Examples of this can
be the crack of a rusty cannon firing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most powerful example of this in the play is in the second act. The scenes in the second act
are shrouded darkness. The darkness foreshadows King Duncan s death and the evil that is
brewing within Macbeth. In scene four of the play, the character Ross describes the darkness after
Duncan s death. He says By th clock tis day, and yet darkness strangles the traveling lamp. Is t
night s predominance, or the day s shame, that darkness does the face of the earth entomb, when
living light should kiss it (2.4.6 10)? This visual imagery describes how dark the scene really is.
This creates an eerie atmosphere for the events that continue to transpire after Duncan s

Dionysus in Grecian Myth Essay
Dionysus in Grecian Myth
The god, Dionysus, fills an integral role in Grecian Myth. According to Euripides Bacchae,
Dionysus represents the animalistic and mystic life force that connects humanity to its innate
earthy roots #8212;roots that are illogical, chaotic, and instinctual. In this paper I will be
discussing this aforementioned mystic life force and its existence in ancient Greece s supremely
logical society. Being as completely logical as the ancient Greeks tended to be, they needed some
sort of release valve that kept them from all going crazy in their otherwise rigid existence. The god,
Dionysus, provided this release in their world through the manifestations of wine, women, and song.
Without these simple earthy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The women were reported as performing weird fantastic things, what miracles and more than
miracles while under Dionysus influence (665 66). Each one of those different mystical acts they
performed represented a different aspect of Dionysus divinity. The women struck the ground and
wine sprang forth for them to drink, they tore live cattle limb from limb, and flew among other
things. The wine was representative of Dionysus gift of wine to mortals. The animals were a
reminder of Dionysus love for raw animal flesh. The women flying were simply examples of
Dionysus awesome powers and the things mortals can do when under the mystical high you
experience under Dionysus control. These awesome acts were spread far and wide by the shepherds
who witnessed them first hand. The stories they told of the miracles performed instigated a
powerful and destructive curiosity in Pentheus. His curiosity was born out of his attempts to
suppress his human side that was all Dionysus represented. Pentheus became so focused on denying
his irrational and animalistic values that they eventually became his obsession. What should have
been a natural human high turned into a perversion of the normal mortal experience with Dionysus.
Pentheus manic desire to view the acts of the women on the mountain was the manifestation of his
perverted sense of pleasure. This voyeuristic desire could only be satisfied through experiencing
another perversion set up by

This form tends to be used more in the Japanese forms than in U.S. The fact is that there are many
differences between U.S, and Japanese accounting practices as well as the management accounting
practices. Management accounting accounts for only one component of a company s total
management system and the role of that system cannot be completely understood without
considering the organizational context and the goals that are to be achieved.
United States companies such as Ford Motor Company tend to put more emphasis on manufacturing
costs after the fact. The Japanese tend to stress the proactive use of managerial accounting to
promote the success and innovation of the products that are introduced. The accounting system
used by the two is similar in some ways and differ in many others. The key area where they tend to

Toddlers In Tiaras Rhetorical Analysis
In the article, Toddlers in Tiaras by Skip Hollandsworth, the author s main focus is to make the
audience aware of the dangers involved in child pageantry, and how it can negatively impact the
children who participate. People who enter their kids in these events don t think to consider the
consequences that result from pageantlifestyle. By incorporating strategies of ethos, pathos, and
logos, he is able to make an effective point of argument to persuade the audience. Hollandsworth
makes himself credible by using intelligence, to contact professional people with experience about
his topic, as resources. CBS Evening News anchors Dan Rather compared the video footage of

were no significant differences between the two groups on measures of bulimia, body
perception, depression, and self esteem. But it did find that the former pageant girls scored
significantly higher on body dissatisfaction, interpersonal distrust, and impulse dysregulation

which enables them to understand and agree with what Hollandsworth is saying. The promise

facts that he uses are based on the idea that pageants are allowing companies to sexualize children
by offering them things that are unnecessary for their age. Now,

When athletes experience a head injury a medical professional is required to sign off before the
athlete may renter the game. The Centers for Disease control has estimated that over 300,000
athletes experience a concussion every year. That is 300,000 students more prone to the negative
effects of these head traumas. Athletes a should be required to wait longer periods of time to give
their braina more sustainable time to heal because some symptoms of a head trauma do not surface
right away. Studies have shown that there is a higher risk of experiencing another concussionand
loosing consciousness after experiencing a previous head trauma. To be more precise athletes
are 9 times more likely to to demonstrate a loss of consciousness after a pervious injury. After
experiencing a trauma to the head everyone is more likely to experience it again but, girls and
women suffer from higher concussion rates than boys an men due to females having smaller and
less muscular head and necks leaving them more vulnerable to experience a concussion. Protective
gear has been developed to help prevent traumas but there is not one piece of gear that can
guarantee no injury while being used during the game. The most common type of gear used is a
helmet. It helps to reduce shock to the head but it does not eliminate... Show more content on

Contributors to the Invention of the Digital Computer and...
During the mid twentieth century many inventions were created in America. The 1900s included
important inventions such as the airplane and telephone. Along with this time of innovation and
invention came World War II, a large impetus to create something new. The digital computer was
just one of these many inventions. The digital computerwas invented in around 1940, right within
the World War II time period. George Stibitz was recognized as the father of the invention although
there were many steps leading up to the digital computer. As a few of the many features, the digital
computer s ability to do multiple functions and to have greater programmability put it ahead of its
predecessors. World War II was just another incentive to improve the computer, allowing for faster
operations and more effective cryptanalysis. Digital computers were one of the most important
inventions within its time period due to its impact on history, the many people involved, and its
advancements compared to previous devices.
Before the invention of the digital computer came many predecessors and previous inventions that
impacted the functions of the computer. A basis for the programmability of the computer came
from the invention of binary. Binary is a code in which there are two states 0 and 1 . The 0 state
represents off, while the 1 represents on. These two digits can be used to represent anything in a
compact and readable format for the computer. Charles Babbage is credited with the

The Appeal And Effect Of Fantasy Essay
This symposium paper will discuss one of the most distinctive features of Keith Waterhouse s
narrative: the appeal and effect of fantasy, in juxtaposition with provincial realism. In the context of
angry young men writers of the mid to late 1950 s.
Billy Liar written by Keith Waterhouse was published in 1959. Waterhouse s work was associated
with a group of novelists and dramatists such as John Braine, Alan Sillitoe and Stan Barstow who
were referenced as angry young men . Notably, the writers were mostly young, working class and
male, who responded to the disillusionment created by the perceived failure of post war
administrations. They considered the labour government had failed to deliver an egalitarian society
and allowed the continuation of an entrenched class system.
The term angry young man , was originally coined in 1956, following the opening of John
Osbourne s play Look Back in Anger (Hague, p.209) which depicted the play s frustrated
protagonist, Jimmy Porter. This play typified a new protagonist in British culture: the white
working class, or lower middle class, disillusioned young male. This new stock character is
observed with Waterhouse s depiction of his protagonist, Billy Fisher. Post World War II, British
fiction was witnessing the emergence of a new kind of protagonist. Keith Waterhouses central
character Billy is representative of this new flawed character, the antihero. He is a rather seedy
young man who is an ingenious and compulsive liar.

Personal Philosophy Fatalism
1. What was the most significant learning within the themes presented this week?
The most significant learning within the themes this week is fatalism. It was interesting because
before I read the text I used to think that most things in life are pre determined. fatalism was similar
to my philosophy. I believe everything is pre determined, and mental things are able to be control. I
think we can change the process, but the result would be the same.
2. How has this learning affected your personal philosophy?
It did not affected my personal philosophy because most of things are the same as my belief system.
In my personal philosophy, everything in my life are pre determined. For example, The place I

History Lesson
To accurately judge a piece of written work like History Lesson , by Arthur C. Clarke, one must
be educated and experienced in detecting the use of literary elements and their effectiveness.
Through examination, I have concluded that History Lesson is an excellent piece of work that
displays its high quality through it effective use of several literary devices. The fictional sci fi short
storyexhibits its excellence through its notable presentation and use of a theme, irony and
symbolism.
The story is effective as I believe a memorable theme is presented to the reader. The theme of the
story is that history is subjective and that what is left behind is often interpreted inaccurately. When
reading the story, the theme is made noteworthy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the short story, the Venusians are presented as a highly intelligent species on Venus.
In an attempt to study life on Earth before the extinction, they put a tremendous amount of work
into uncovering and examining the relics from the cairn. However, all this labour, all this
research, would be utterly in vain (Clarke, 329) as they extrapolate what they believe to be an
accurate representation of life on Earth from A Walt Disney Production. When analyzing the
film, although they state that the record was somewhat stylized, rather than an exact
reproduction of life as it actually had been on the Third Planet (Clarke, 328), they were not
completely aware that the record was an animation or cartoon; a film deliberately made with a
sequence of drawings rather than real people. This is an example of dramatic irony as we the
audience are aware of information the Venusian are not aware of. Situational Irony is also present.
When the Venusian Historian stated that they had discovered the exact form and nature of the
ruling life on the Third Planet (Clarke, 326). The audience expects him to show evidence of what
we know to be an accurate representation of life on Earth due to Venusian s portrayal as a highly
advanced species. However, the opposite of what we expect occurs (situational irony) as

The Songs Of Drake s Rise
Popular Albums of 2015
People often go through relationship issues, breakups, sadness, depression, struggles, and other
emotional events. Listening to songs gives people s emotion a voice to which they can relate to.
Being able to connect to people at such a deep and personal level allows songs to become popular
and allows the Artist s album to rise to the top and be successful. In the year 2015, there were
many successful albums that were released, but in my opinion Drake s album If You re Reading

a showcase of how Justin Bieber matured as artist. This album relates to past relations a lot and
how to coup with those lingering feelings. Many of his songs in this album are about relationship

Compare And Contrast Pzarro And Hernan Cortes
Hernan Cortes and Francisco Pizarro managed to bring down the administration and basic structure
of the Aztec Empire and Inca Empire with only a few hundred men by utilizing various advantages
that they possessed. Both men had far superior weaponry than the natives that they fought however
the natives could have countered this with just sheer numbers and utilizing the terrain that they
knew so well. What really allowed these men to dominate their enemies was their strategies and
experience. Both men were also aided by the diseases that they brought with them, devastating the
native population for decades. Hernan Cortes was a Spanish Conquistadorwho dreamed of riches, a
title of nobility, and fame. He planned to obtain these by leading an expedition into the New
World. Spaniard s dreamed that conquering Mexico would give them great wealth and Cortes as
able to do this. He conquered parts of Mexico and caused the fall of the Aztec Empire. Cortes was

Are Writing Skills Necessary In The Work Force Analysis
I believe writing skills are necessary in the work force. For example if I was sent out on a job to
go and fix someone s computer, I would have to record and document data for my job. It is a
necessity for two reasons, one to explain to the customer what I had done to their computer, and
what they should do in order to prevent the matter from happening again. Secondly I would use
my documentation to prove my worth to my boss, in order to show what I do on the job, and why
I am an asset to the company. In the article Mr. Pillai stresses the importance of writing, and why
they are vital to everyday routines. Granted I do agree with some of the points Mr. Pillai makes I

The Holocaust And The Extermination Of The Holocaust
Imagine hiding days/ months in a basement because of your race. Imagine being taken away
from your house in the middle of the night. Imagine a four years old being given up by his

society and your dad being forced to hard labor, including moving dead bodies of people from a

you. . This was the Holocaust. The holocaust is known as the extermination of 6 millions of Jews
by the Nazis during Hitler dictatorship. It all began when Hitler was given the opportunity by
Hindenburg to be Germany s chancellor on January 30, 1933. This opportunity turned in an
abuse of power, in fact Hitler governed Germany according to his belief. Hitler, and the Nazis
more in general, strongly believed in the German biological superiority. According to the article
Before Germans Slaughtered Jews They Slaughtered Africans , a mixed society in Germany was
seen as a threat to the national s identity. Jews, in particular, were considered sub human. For this
reason, under Hitler s Nazi regime, they were treated as animal or way differently from Germans.
But the separation occurred gradually; in fact, at the beginning of his governance, Jews had to
leave their homes and were placed in assigned ghettos where little or no food was available to
them. As months passed, ulterior separations occurred. Old

The Styl Style Of Anita Desai
Anita Desai undoubtedly holds a prominent position among the Contemporary writers of Indo
Anglican fiction. She is a bold and experimental Novelist with a new sense and vibrant richness.
Much attention is given to the emotional crisis of her protagonists who live in a chaotic society.
She delves deep to find out the factors responsible for such a despair and attempts to suggest
solutions to overcome it. From her novels, it is clear that she, possesses one of the healthiest and
psychologically most balanced minds in the realm of Indo Anglican fictionand the sanity of her
tastes and attitudes, is almost exemplary, a point worth emulation for her fellow religionists in the
field of writing. As a woman writer she does not profess to be a feminist and yet she voices the
fears and concerns, the hopes and aspirations of her characters in her own artistic way. She is
deeply fascinated in exploring the social structure through the central characters in her novels. She
is a minute observer of the society existing around her, perceiving everything minutely and
delicately so that the situations can be presented in a poetic style.

The Red Baron Is A Film Directed By Nikolai Muellerschoen...
The Red Baron is a film directed by Nikolai Muellerschoen and produced by Niama Film which
was released on April 10, 2008 but wasn t released in the US until March 19, 2010. This movie
was based on a legendary German pilot who fought and died in World War 1. This pilot was
known as Manfred von Richthofen. I believe that this film was nicely put together, the plot kept
its viewers engaged and wanting to see what would happen next. In this essay I will be giving a
brief explanation on the film and why it is or is not accurate and whether the producer did it on
purpose or by mistake. At the beginning of the movie which takes place in 1906, Manfred is still
a child. As a kid Manfred is out hunting with his younger brother Lothar von Richthofen and
younger cousin, Wolfram Freiherr von Richthofen. Suddenly the sound of an airplane flying
nearby flies over them. Amazed, Manfred jumps on his horse and follows the airplane with his
arms spread out as though they were the wings of a plane themselves. This foreshadows him
becoming a pilot in the future. After this scene the movies jumps ten years into the future which
happens to be during World War 1. After the ten years have passed Manfred is a Lieutenant and is
serving as a fighter pilot for the Imperial German Air Service. Lieutenant Richthofen is shown
flying along the Western front where they drop a wreath over the funeral of an Allied pilot. On his
way back home with his friends and fellow pilots Werner Voss, Lieutenant

Analysis Of The Book Watchmen By Alan Moore
Watchmen by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons utilizes the literary tool of symbols.
Symbols such as the smiley pin, clocks, and the haunting who watches the watchmen graffiti all
come up several times in the graphic novel, thus alluding to a deeper meaning. Time is a major
theme throughout the comic and plays a significant part in the structure and outcome of the story.
This theme is successfully coupled to the theme of destiny by the use of the clock and other
symbols that are present throughout the comic. Symbols such as clocks, the smiley pin, and the
graffiti are utilized to efficiently connect the themes of time, justice and loss of innocence
throughout Watchmen. The clocks in Watchmen are used to foreshadow the future events in the
novel and connect the theme of morality to the theme of time. Other than the literal connection
between calling themselves Watchmen and actual watches, clocks and time in general play a huge
part in the arc of the comic s storyline. Doctor Manhattan s father was a watchmaker before learning
that time is relevant and therefore useless. Jon himself finds this out through his own experience
with time and seeing back and forth through it. This is particularly important because the whole
reason he became a superhero is because of a watch:
(Moore 4.7 8) The last thing the reader sees is Jon holding the watch before he is disintegrated by
the nuclear reactor. This connects to the doomsday clock because of the similar threat of

Causes Of The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
The conflict between Jews and Palestinian Arabs is a struggle over land that began around the turn
of the 20th century. Unfortunately, ever since the conflict began, little to no progress has been
made in solving the Israeli Palestinian conflict. There is a tremendous amount of history
encompassing the dispute because it changes dramatically depending on which side is describing
their point of view and when they believe the conflict started. The United States, Great Britain, the
United Nations, and many other countries have attempted to mediate both parties in order to work
towards a solution; however, all of their efforts have been unsuccessful because the Israeli
Palestinian conflict is the direct result of Great Britain s lack of ability to maintain consistent
foreign policy in Israel, Palestine, and Egypt.
The fundamental issue in the Israeli Palestinian conflict remains who has rights to the land which
encompasses Israel, the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank. Jewish claims to the land are based on the
biblical promise to Abraham and his descendants, on the fact that Palestine was the historical site of
the Jewish kingdom of Israel and on Jews need for a haven from European anti Semitism. On the
other hand, Palestinian Arabs claims to the land are based on continuous residence in the country
for hundreds of years and the fact that they represented the demographic majority. Arabs engage the
biblical argument, and claim since Abraham s son Ishmael is the forefather of

Women s Liberation
The subject of feminism has evolved into various complex theories. In addition, feminism has also
been a heavily debated issue that has been around for numerous years. The argument of feminism is
that women are, and always have been throughout history, treated differently than men by society.
Therefore, women are being stripped down of opportunities to their benefit economically, socially,
politically, and culturally. Since there are multiple theories on feminism, Donald Hall s definition of
cultural feminism, from his Feminist Analysis of Literary and Cultural Theory, will be used to

There are multiple examples of where this is evident in the stories. It also states, evidence of one
woman s determination to meet her own economic, psychological, and eventually emotional

challenged the norms of patriarchal society. These women realized that this oppressive society
treated them unfairly, and they could not take it anymore. The novel, The Awakening by Kate
Chopin, it portrays a woman in the process of discovering herself and becoming self aware.
Through time, this woman realizes that she has lived senselessly, under the illusion that life her
life is great. So she must wake up of course, and become conscious of how unfair society is

The Economic Crisis of 1857
The economic crisis of 1857 was a financial fear in the United States, and the worst economic
downfall in 20 years. The continuous failure of businesses and banks created a panic in the
overall economic recession. As many as 5,000 businesses failed and unemployment was on a rise.
Americans panicked because there was a loss of confidence in an Ohio financial institution.
Additionally, the railroads begin to fail and there was a fear that the U.S. Government would not
be able to pay its obligations. The 1857 economic crisis plummeted because of the failure of a
banking institution, Ohio Life Insurance and Trust Company, which was based in Cincinnati, Ohio.
This large company had a major financial collapse due to the company s New York Cityoffices
ceasing operations because of bad investments. Because of this financial fall, a chain of other
setbacks took place, such as British investors decided to remove funds from U.S. banks, grain
prices fell, and rail routes disseminated which ruined thousands of investors (Huston, 1987).
Railroad builders obtained a $5 million loan from the Ohio financial institution and had been
defrauded out of millions more by the manager of its New York branch. Ohio Life Insurance was
forced into bankruptcy because they were unable to pay its outstanding debt to Eastern bankers.
New York bankers panicked for fear that they would not be able to meet their financial obligations,
which created a more harsh credit policy. They demanded

Analyzing Mission Command Principles Of Gen Braxton Bragg
CHICKAMAUGA: Analyzing Mission Command Principles of GEN Braxton Bragg According
to Army ADP 6 0, mission command is the exercise of authority and direction by the commander,
using mission orders to enable disciplined initiative within the commander s intent, to empower
agile and adaptive leaders in the conduct of unified land operations (CAPE, 2012). Effective
mission command can generally be analyzed according to the six principles outlined in ADRP 6 0.
The six principles of mission command are to: build cohesive teams through mutual trust, create
shared understanding, provide a clear commander s intent, exercise disciplined initiative, use
mission orders, and accept prudent risk (CAPE, 2012). This paper provides a brief overview of the

He was fighting a war on two fronts: internally, and against Union forces. It was General Bragg s
lack of confidence, previous performances, and relationships with his subordinate commanders
that ultimately caused the battle plan to not be executed correctly. Bragg was unable to
successfully implement the first principle of mission command: build cohesive teams through
mutual trust. He also had a history of not utilizing the sixth principle of mission command: take
prudent risk. Bragg s lack of competence regarding these two mission command principles
ultimately set conditions for a poor mission command climate within General Bragg s unit.
Bragg s sub commanders, Generals Hindman, Buckner, Polk, Longstreet, and Hill were all
skeptical of Bragg s leadership and battle plans from his previous campaign at Chattanooga,
where he retreated from the city. Bragg was well known for retreating at the first Battle of
Chattanooga, and also for predictably employing frontal assault offensive tactics. His history of
predictable plans, retreats, and inability to take prudent risk, caused his subordinate leaders to
lose trust in his ability to plan and lead his army. One of Bragg s sub commanders, General Hill,
stated He was silent and reserved and seemed gloomy and despondent. He had grown prematurely
old since I saw him last, and showed much nervousness. His relations with his next in command

Nfl Hbs Case Study Essay
NFL Case Study
1. Discuss the factors that have resulted in the NFL becoming America s Game and the most
popular sport in the country?
The fundamental reason for NFL becoming America s Game and the most popular sport in the
country is because the NFL was able to market the sport as an entertainment business.
Leveraging television and the fact that American football was only played in America, the
NFL was able to create a holiday feel that was unique and that American s took pride in, as a result
paid more attention to the sport. Another contributing factor was to control the quality of the
product. Making sure that each team had the resources to perform professionally and one team
could not gain absolute advantage was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example Formula One, as teams survive on sponsorship revenue, teams with manufacturer
support have a greater budget to invest in drivers and engineers, ultimately having a more
competitive package, and their greater spending is also rewarded by greater commercial revenue as
the revenue is granted based on performance rather than pooling. As a result, domination by a few
teams is extremely normal in Formula One.
3. Discuss Peter O Reilly s marketing/brand strategy discussed in the case along with Alex and
Matt s comments in class. What do you think has made it successful and offer other ideas on how
the NFL can more effectively build the NFL brand and continue to grow its fan base?
Peter O Reilly s marketing/ brand strategy s main objective was to generate pride amongst
individual, families, cities and the nation. Americans develop a sense of ownership to the sport as a
result invest must more interest into it. The NFL is able to leverage the fact that
American football is not a global sport but has global audience in terms of numbers. By marketing
the brand as intense (delivering edge of your seat, heart pounding excitement ),
meaningful (being much more than just a game ), and unifying (forging bonds among families,
friends, and even strangers, uniting entire cities and even the nation ). It defines part of American
culture and habits, as a result the longer the sport lasts the more engrained it is in American culture,

Text Messaging Affecting Teen Literacy
Introduction Texting can be both good and bad for students writing skills. As stated in Christine
Erickson s article A Brief History of Text Messaging text messaging, or SMS, was developed in
the Franco German GSM cooperation in 1984 by Friedhelm Hillebrand and Bernard Ghillebaert.
Texting has come a long way into existence. Texting, or SMS (short message service) is a method
of communicationthat sends text between cell phones or from a PC or handheld to a cell phone
stated by Christine Erickson. As I have done a lot of research I have found that the brain can
receive messages in multiple ways. While some people may think texting has a positive impact on

of way.
Texting Affecting Teen Literacy Many kids/teens use short handed text. The over use of texting
affects the way students write in class.(2) Teenagers use text messagingmore than any other form
of communication. There is no doubt that when young people spend large amounts of time using
cell phones, this activity also permanently impacts the maturation and development of their
brains.(8) Smartphones are changing our nation of acceptable behavior, privacy, and social

Healthy Eating Persuasive Speech Outline
Persuasive Speech: Making healthy Nutritional decisions.
Specific Purpose: To persuade my classmates to make healthier nutritional choices.
Thesis Statement: Healthy eating is not something to worry about down the road; we need to act
now, while we are young to develop good habits for the future.
1.Introduction:
a.Attention Getter: I visited Holly Drougas our very own licensed dietician here at Virginia
Western. I asked her, What is the first thing that comes to mind when I say the word Nutrition? She
shocked me by saying, Confusion . With so much conflicting and confusing information from both
the scientific community and the lay press, many people simply don t know what to eat to be

Infant Attachment Report
Every infant acts a different way and can have different kinds of attachment. Babies can show
signs of secure attachment, insecure avoidant, insecure resistant, or insecure disorganized
/disoriented attachment behaviors. There are all kinds of personalities, environments, and
genes that mold the babies relationships and attachment with the parents. I have observed three
different adult and baby pairs in the store, in my in laws home, and at the park. The first pair I
witnessed was a mom and it looked to be her 8 month year old baby. She was holding the baby as
she was walking around looking at items, and the baby was very content. When a stranger
walked up to the baby, the baby just stared with no expression. That same stranger started baby
talking to the baby and the baby didn t cry or look concerned. In my observation I came to the
conclusion that the baby shows signs of secure attachment which is defined as the healthy type of
attachment between an infant and a caregiver. It is indicated when the infant seeks contact with the
caregiver, clings, and is soothed by the caregiver; and when the infant uses the caregiver as a safe
base exploring unfamiliar environments (Cook 183.). This proves my assumption because the baby
was curious by looking at the environment and the stranger next to him as he was soothed and...

that researched and influenced American culture and politics at the time. It can be understood to
say that the Beat Generation was the precursor for the Flower Children of the 1960 s. These group
of authors of the Beat Generation included Neal Cassady, Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs, Sal
Paradise and others. Majority of the work of the Beat Generation was recognized and published
during the 1950s. Jack Kerouac s first novel Town and City was published in 1950 was an
autobiography of small town values and inspirations city life. Unfortunately, his first novel did
not give him much recognition. Jack Kerouac also wrote The Dharma Bums, Visions of Cody,
The Subterraneans, Desolation Angels, Lonesome Traveler and several other novels. He

Optimism as a Theme for Candide Essay
Optimism as a Theme for Candide
Just as on the title, Candide, or Optimism, Optimism is also used as a major theme. Voltaire s satire
of philosophical optimism is one of the major issues of Candide. Throughout the story, satirical
references to the best of all possible worlds contrast with natural catastrophes and human
wrongdoing. According to Wikipedia, optimism, the opposite of pessimism, is a lifeview where the
world is looked upon the as a positive place. Optimists generally believe that people are inherently
good. These people are said to have a positive outlook on life, believing that given time, things will
work out in the end. Also according to Wikipedia, In philosophy, optimism is linked with the name

Private misfortunes make for public welfare, Pangloss concludes. This is true in a optimistic society
According to SparkNotes.com:
Pangloss and his student Candide maintain that everything is for the best in this best of all
possible worlds. This idea is a reductively simplified version of the philosophies of a number of
Enlightenment thinkers, most notably Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz. To these thinkers, the
existence of any evil in the world would have to be a sign that God is either not entirely good or
not all powerful, and the idea of an imperfect God is nonsensical. These philosophers took for
granted that God exists, and concluded that since God must be perfect, the world he created must
be perfect also. According to these philosophers, people perceive imperfections in the world only
because they do not understand God s grand plan. Because Voltaire does not accept that a perfect
God (or any God) has to exist, he can afford to mock the idea that the world must be completely
good, and he heaps merciless satire on this idea throughout the novel. The optimists, Pangloss and
Candide, suffer and witness a wide variety of horrorsВ—floggings, rapes, robberies, unjust
executions, disease, an earthquake, betrayals, and crushing ennui. These horrors do not serve any
apparent greater good, but point only to the cruelty and folly of humanity and the indifference of
the natural world. Pangloss struggles to find justification for the terrible things in the world, but his

The Woodland Quarry Park
With poor weather, it was clear that the species that thrived in the wooded areas survived more
effectively as a result of the protection that offered by the woods. Although more mosses and
grasses were present near the quarries, it was obvious that they were much more susceptible to
wind, cold, and rain. With fall in full swing, the vegetation near the quarries changed much
sooner than the woodland vegetation. Species Distribution: Woodland quarries provide a
significant habitat for a large number of species. This park is an excellent place to educate
people about the interconnections that exist among bedrock, overburden, water, plants, and even
human activities. George Shurr, Ph.D., Earth Science, St. Cloud State University (Stearns

animals make their homes here, including various types of birds like mallards, geese, grouse,

different medical idea that felt unfamiliar to me, for sports injuries and treatment was and still is
a fairly new field. Today, as I look to graduate From Dalhousie University with dual majors in

Cognitive Neurological Connections
The field of cognitive neuroscience seeks to understand the processes underlying cognition and
neural connections. One major subfield of neuroscience utilizes electrophysiological properties of
the brain to record neural activity through electrodes on the scalp (EEG). Furthermore, the analysis
of the signal to noise ratios leads to event related potentials (ERPs). These event related potentials
measure the brains response to specific cognitive events. Also through previous research ERP s
have been correlated with face perception in humans and monkeys; subsequently, prosopagnosia
and lesion studies in the inferior occipitotemporal region bolsters the notion that the brain utilizes
specific areas to perceive faces (Bentin et al., 1996). Additional... Show more content on

He established that the N170 reacted best to human faces compared to animal faces, cars,
scrambled pictures, or hands. However, the N170 reacted the highest when volunteers were
presented pictures of isolated eyes. This indicated that the neural mechanism is fine tuned to
identify human physiognomic features. Bentin discovered the importance the N170 performs in
the perception facial expressions. Furthermore, he challenged the assumption that inversion of
faces impaired the structural encoding phase by presenting volunteers with inverted and upright
faces. The amplitude and distribution of the N170 of the upright and inverted faces was
particularly analogous, and this lead to the impression that this specific ERP component encodes
facial structures in lieu of an entire face. Furthermore, Bentin also noted the differences in the
recordings of the scalp recorded N170 to the subdural N200. There is a 20msec latency in the
N200 recordings, and the N200 recordings are correlated with the fusiform face specific
processing. While the N200 structurally encodes the face, the N170 is a specific eye processor
that interprets gaze and orientation. Additional studies verified the conjecture that the N170 is
targeted for eyes. In one experiment when the eyes were directed to the viewer compared to
gazing away a larger N170 was noted (McCarthy et al., 1999). This principal attribute of human eye

British Imperialism

Impact of British Imperialism
In the late 1800 s, European nations only controlled about 10 percent of the continent of Africa,
France to the north and Britain to the south (Edgar, 2008). As time goes by, other countries gain
conquests, mostly in western areas of Africa. This essay will go over a few key points in history
that led to the Age of Imperialism and the British colonization of Southern Africa. The essay will
also identify key players in this age. Southern Africa was known for its gold and other valuable
items that made it so appealing to Europeans. This and many other reasons led to wars over the
areas that had high gold content.

Britain was also interested in areas known to be rich in minerals like the country of Transvaal,
(David, 2011). They also aimed at keeping other countries out of their territories so as to not lose
the upper hand in the search for gold and priceless gems. Because of this plan to keep other
countries out, by the late 1800 s Britain was in control of about 30% of Africa s population.
Although the plan to abolish slavery, set down by the regulations put out by the Berlin conference,
slavery still flourished in the Congo. A French missionary by the name of Cardinal Charles
Lavigerie, exposes King Leopold as the sole profiteer of slave trade in the Congo, (David, 2011).
So at a sermon in Paris at St. Sulpice in 1888, Lavigerie shocked the people with the horrible
things King Leopold s men were subjecting the natives of Africa to (David, 2011). At this,
Brussels Conference, King Leopold would agree to abolish Arab slave trade in return for the right
to tax imports, (David, 2011).
On the subject of African Resistance, conflicts between natives did not change during the invasion
from outside nations. Those that were in conflict stayed in conflict. Because of this continuing
conflict, there was not unification of the people of Africa to rise up against these invaders and take
back what is theirs, (Talton). There were to ways that the resistance was being handled, by

The Exploitation Of Land Is Justified Essay
The economy today runs on an antiquated ritual of exploiting, plundering, devastation, and
manipulation of land for material wealth, profiting the wealthy and condemning the poor. This
mindset is no more sophisticated than feudalism, a system so bad it had to be outlawed along with
witchcraft. The idea that exploitation of land is justified has brought plastics to the ocean and
leveled rainforests. Large corporations have grown larger by manufacturing and production,
depleting the planet s resources in the process. Now, companies must make a combined effort to put
the environment first, before profit. Because of their harmful practices, consumers have the right to
know where products come from, how they re made, and the impact on the environment.
Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the large corporations to change their harmful practices, to
make strides towards ending climate changeand use clean, sustainable methods.
With the combination of polymers that don t biodegrade and mass overproduction, companies are
harming the environment in severe ways. Plastic, a material seen everywhere, is a polymer made
from oil. It is mass produced to make everything from shampoo bottles to automobiles and does not
biodegrade. When it is eventually thrown out, the waste usually finds it way into the ocean, where
it is either buried under sediment or eaten by marine life (Weisman 287 295). Creating a material
that will ultimately kill marine life will undoubtedly wreak havoc on the

  • 2. Comparing Neil Gaiman And The Wolves In The Walls Neil Gaiman has a unique style of writing that is unlike any other writer of today. He is able to create fantastical, eerie stories seems painfully real and largely humorous. However, the most interesting quality about Gaiman and his writings is not his uniqueness, but his ability to use whatever medium of print to its fullest. Whether it be the novelwith The Graveyard Book, the children s book with The Wolves in the Walls, or the graphic novel with The Sandman: Dream Country, Neil Gaimanexpertly uses the pages and text to be something quite meaningful to the readers. The works themselves are distinctively Gaiman in tone and style, containing elements that continue to make him a popular modern writer. These three works of Neil Gaiman explore... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Graveyard Book s conclusion hinged on Bod s ability to think outside the box and defeat evil. The Wolves in the Walls was essentially a celebration of childhood imagination. The Sandman: Dream Country depicts dreams as the very thing that makes us humans different from the animal kingdom. Good versus evil is a theme in all these works, even if somewhat heavy handed at times. There is Bod, Scarlett, and the graveyard versus the Jacks of All Trade. Then, there is the family versus the wolves. And then, there is Dream versus the evils within particular human beings. Good versus evil is a pretty clear theme in all of the works, in which good always prevails. A much smaller theme in these works is that of commitment. It is present in The Graveyard Book when whole graveyard commits to raising Bod as a community. It is present in The Wolves in the Walls when the family as a whole returns to their home to live and the wolves invaded. It is even present in The Sandman: Dream Country s A Midsummer Night s Dream when William Shakespeare honors his promise to Dream about writing a play for him. Lastly, one of the major themes that these works share is that everything must end. In end of The Graveyard Book, Bod must leave his family and home to start his next journey in life. The children s book The Wolves in the Walls was much less bleak with this theme, softening it by making events more cyclical in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The opening ceremony held at the stage. Also, live music and performance at the stage will indulge the crowd from day till night. When finished the performance on the stage, the participants could evacuate quickly because the exit is very close with the stage. The location of stage is beneficial for the crowd control. Well Stage Design Besides, the venue has done very well in stage design. LED backdrops and eye attracting decoration were on the stage it seems that the stage has been delicately designed. Participants could see the stage clearly as a big screen is setting at the central of the stage. The stage color is aligning with the event theme color which is purple. In addition, some stage special effects designed for the performance such as the lighting decoration is moving with music and spray the colored ribbon and balloon on the stage at the end of a live music. • 4. Slopestyle Snowboarding Imagine this: you re on the starting line, feet strapped firmly into boots on your snowboard. The start horn sounds, and you re off, flying down the slope, jumping obstacles and landing tricks. Slopestyle snowboarding has gained popularity as an Olympic sport, even if it is pretty young. The lack of time the sport has been around doesn t mean it isn t well developed. It has a history, and many people competing with a set scoring system and rules. Bored Americans who had way too much time on their hands created snowboarding. In the decade of the 60s, snowboarding was born, getting more interesting as skateboarders and surfers joined the early developers of the sport. As the sport gained popularity, it also gained it s haters mainly skiers.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the Federation International de Ski (FIS), overall impression is the main scoring method. Half a dozen judges score adversaries on the tricks they perform. Diversity, implementation, and complexity of the tricks as well as landing in the sweet spot will all impact the point total (McMahon). The more technically perfect a run is and the harder the tricks performed will result in a higher score. Compared to some other Olympic sports, snowboarding could be referred to as still a fledgling. However, the sport is becoming as trendy as some of the older winter sports. I also find it slightly ironic that the FIS, a skiing organization, scores snowboarding when it was skiers who were originally against the sport. People from all nations score big by landing impressive tricks. The variation of nationalities that snowboarders come from means that no matter where you come from, there is someone in this event you can cheer for. Cazenuve, Brian. Medal Picks. In 1967, the NHL double from six to twelve teams, with all new teams located in the United States. Between 1970 and 1980 an additional ten teams entered the league and during the 1990s five teams were admitted to the NHL. Exhibit 10 illustrates that hockey only ranked fourth out of eight possible responses when people in the U.S. were asked about their favorite sport; hockey was lagging significantly behind the football, baseball and basketball in Americans preferences for sports. In the U.S., football, basketball and baseball enjoy a larger fan base than hockey, which is reflected in the higher percentages of Big Fans in all of these three sports while over 61 percent of the U.S. respondents reported that they were not interested in hockey (Exhibit 13 and 14). In Canada , however, hockey is much more popular, ranking second after football and before basketball and baseball when comparing the percentages in Big Fan category (Exhibit 13 and 14). All three major competitors of the NHL generate larger total per team average revenues than the NHL with the MLB (63.4 mil.) at the top, followed by the NFL (62.4 mil.), the NBA (38.2 mil), and the NHL (29 mil.). • 6. Rhetorical Analysis Of Black Power Stokely Carmichael (aka Kwame Ture), was the first person to coin the slogan Black Power in reaction to a shooting of a civil rights activist provocatively on June 16th, 1966. Ture originally brandished the term in an unclear way, so both his supporters and critics can find their own interpretation of the meaning. Black Power was described as a way for black peoplein this country to unite, to recognize their heritage, to build a sense of community. It is a call for black people to get to define their own goals, to lead their own organizations to resist the racist institutions and values of this society, said by Ture and Charles V. Hamilton in a book called, Black Power: The Politics of Liberation. Although the term was used as a sense of power, to whites it was a sign of a revolution for violence and hatred towards white supremacy.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Black Power is not meant to degrade white people, it s meant to equalize both by reversing discrimination and racism that is already put into place. Implementing A Big Data Database Platform Abstract The primary objective of the document is to detail the steps necessary to implement a Big Data database platform to achieve what is called an Enterprise Data Lake and to improve Enterprise Data Hub where all data stored in one place and integrated with existing infrastructure and tools. Relevance Presently, I am working as a Database developer in a Software company. • 8. Influence Of Chuck Berry On The Development Of Rock Roll The influence of Chuck Berry on the development of rock roll.
A great analogy that I came across while doing some reading and research for this paper was If Elvis Presley cracked open the door for rock roll, Chuck Berry kicked it wide open (Rock Roll Hall of Fame). I believe that this is a great way to visualize how great of an influence Elvis Presley was and just how great Chuck Berry was on rock and roll in comparison to him. To me think about that is just mind blowing. I truly believe after working on this paper that Chuck Berry was one of the most popular and influential performers of all time in the genres of rhythm and blues as well as rock n roll. All this had taken place during the 1950s on through the 1970s. He s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Rock Roll Hall of Fame) Shortly after all that Chuck Berry was very quick to follow with a bundle of other unique singles that seemed to continue to mold out what appeared to be the new genre of rock n roll. These single included Roll Over, Beethoven, Too Much Monkey Business and Brown Eyed Handsome Man, these are just a few songs among many others. Chuck Berry had managed to achieve crossover appeal with white youths without alienating his black fans by mixing blues and R B sounds with storytelling that spoke to the universal themes of youth (Encyclopedia of World Biography). In the late 1950s, songs like Johnny B. Goode, Sweet Little Sixteen and Carol had all made the Top 10 chart of pop music by accomplishing the equal popularity with youths on both sides of the racial divide (Biography.com. A E Networks Television). I made records for people who would buy them, Berry said. No color, no ethnic, no political I don t want that, never did. (Rolling Stone) Chuck Berry at this point had a climbing music career that would eventually have a great decline in 1961. He had been convicted under the Mann Act because he was illegally transporting woman across state lines for immoral purposes. (Rock Roll Hall of Fame). What would have been three years earlier, in 1958, Chuck Berry had opened his own Club Bandstand. He did this in what was a predominantly white business district of downtown St. Louis. The World Series began in the year of 1903 and it has been going on until present time. The New York Yankees were a great team throughout the 1998 season. They had a great winning record the a MLB team could ever have; going with a record of 114 wins and 46 six loses in the regular season. In 1998, the New York Yankees and the San Diego Padres had met at the World Series. it was said that the Yanks were having a great spring training. • 10. Character Analysis Of Black Swan In the film, Black Swan, the plot centers on Nina Sayers, a ballerina whose only goal is to play the role of the Black and White Swan in her company s production of Tchaikovsky s Swan Lake ballet. While she easily embodies into the innocence and grace of the White Swan, her shy and fragile personality does not fit the seductiveness and mysteriousness of the Black Swan. As a result, she struggles to become the opposite of who she is, worsening her issues with depression and anorexia. In the beginning of the film, Nina was depicted as an average, normal person living in New York that yet lacked the freedom to express herself as a sexually free, young woman due to her mother s controlling behavior. When she wins the coveted Swan Queen role, the feeling of immense pressure that comes with the role causes Nina to lose her tenuous grip on reality and descend into a living nightmare. For example, she experiences symptoms such as interpreting normal behavior from Lily as an attack because of Nina s jealousy toward Lily s effortless embodiment of the Black Swan (Schacter, Gilbert, Wegner, Nock, 2014). Nina s attention to negative behavior to Lily is a result of her own imagination she starts conceiving events that did not happen such as a lesbian fling with Lily and her constant attempts to sabotage Nina s ability to perform as the Swan Queen. In addition, she suffers through hallucinatory episodes that involve bodily horror, such as her skin tearing off her body and the appearance of an evil twin, every time she reaches a step closer to her full transformation of the Swan Queen. In addition, she has developed an eating disorder called anorexia nervosa to meet the standard body image required for dancers. While her loss of appetite only becomes worse as the film progresses, this issue seems to have existed before the events of the Swan Lake production. Ultimately, Nina becomes so trapped in the world of Swan Lake that she forgets about the real world and truly becomes both the White Swan and Black Swan. However, her mind is unable to harbor both forces on a physical and psychological level, and as a result, she unconsciously chooses to commit suicide. • 13. Descriptive Use Of Imagery In Macbeth By William Shakespeare Stories have an incredible ability to make readers see without using their eyes. Words that are carefully placed together can create strong moments and feeling that the reader can easily visualize. A writer and author who had best mastered this skill was William Shakespeare. Even though Shakespeare wrote plays that were eventually performed live, he was still able to use imagery to describe scenes that did not take place on stage. Because Shakespeare successfully understood human nature, his imagery made the plays he wrote more emotional and complex. Imagery can be described in several different ways. Visual imagery is one that most readers are familiar with. This is when the writer uses descriptive words to create an image in the reader s minds. For example, saying the girls golden hair glittered in the sunlight or the stars speckled the dark sky like precious jewels would create a distinct picture. Another type of imagery is olfactory imagery. This is when descriptive words are used to create a smell. This can become a powerful tool since humans are able to remember smells longer than any other sense they posses. Auditory imagery is when a reader can hear sounds when reading certain text. Examples of this can be the crack of a rusty cannon firing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most powerful example of this in the play is in the second act. According to Euripides Bacchae, Dionysus represents the animalistic and mystic life force that connects humanity to its innate earthy roots #8212;roots that are illogical, chaotic, and instinctual. In this paper I will be discussing this aforementioned mystic life force and its existence in ancient Greece s supremely logical society. Being as completely logical as the ancient Greeks tended to be, they needed some sort of release valve that kept them from all going crazy in their otherwise rigid existence. The god, Dionysus, provided this release in their world through the manifestations of wine, women, and song. Without these simple earthy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The women were reported as performing weird fantastic things, what miracles and more than miracles while under Dionysus influence (665 66). Each one of those different mystical acts they performed represented a different aspect of Dionysus divinity. The women struck the ground and wine sprang forth for them to drink, they tore live cattle limb from limb, and flew among other things. The wine was representative of Dionysus gift of wine to mortals. The animals were a reminder of Dionysus love for raw animal flesh. The women flying were simply examples of Dionysus awesome powers and the things mortals can do when under the mystical high you experience under Dionysus control. These awesome acts were spread far and wide by the shepherds who witnessed them first hand. The stories they told of the miracles performed instigated a powerful and destructive curiosity in Pentheus. His curiosity was born out of his attempts to suppress his human side that was all Dionysus represented. Pentheus became so focused on denying his irrational and animalistic values that they eventually became his obsession. What should have been a natural human high turned into a perversion of the normal mortal experience with Dionysus. • 22. The Appeal And Effect Of Fantasy Essay This symposium paper will discuss one of the most distinctive features of Keith Waterhouse s narrative: the appeal and effect of fantasy, in juxtaposition with provincial realism. In the context of angry young men writers of the mid to late 1950 s. Billy Liar written by Keith Waterhouse was published in 1959. Waterhouse s work was associated with a group of novelists and dramatists such as John Braine, Alan Sillitoe and Stan Barstow who were referenced as angry young men . Notably, the writers were mostly young, working class and male, who responded to the disillusionment created by the perceived failure of post war administrations. They considered the labour government had failed to deliver an egalitarian society and allowed the continuation of an entrenched class system. The term angry young man , was originally coined in 1956, following the opening of John Osbourne s play Look Back in Anger (Hague, p.209) which depicted the play s frustrated protagonist, Jimmy Porter. This play typified a new protagonist in British culture: the white working class, or lower middle class, disillusioned young male. This new stock character is observed with Waterhouse s depiction of his protagonist, Billy Fisher. Post World War II, British fiction was witnessing the emergence of a new kind of protagonist. Keith Waterhouses central character Billy is representative of this new flawed character, the antihero. He is a rather seedy young man who is an ingenious and compulsive liar. ... Both men were also aided by the diseases that they brought with them, devastating the native population for decades. Hernan Cortes was a Spanish Conquistadorwho dreamed of riches, a title of nobility, and fame. He planned to obtain these by leading an expedition into the New World. For example if I was sent out on a job to go and fix someone s computer, I would have to record and document data for my job. It is a necessity for two reasons, one to explain to the customer what I had done to their computer, and what they should do in order to prevent the matter from happening again. Secondly I would use my documentation to prove my worth to my boss, in order to show what I do on the job, and why I am an asset to the company. The holocaust is known as the extermination of 6 millions of Jews by the Nazis during Hitler dictatorship. It all began when Hitler was given the opportunity by Hindenburg to be Germany s chancellor on January 30, 1933. This opportunity turned in an abuse of power, in fact Hitler governed Germany according to his belief. Hitler, and the Nazis more in general, strongly believed in the German biological superiority. According to the article Before Germans Slaughtered Jews They Slaughtered Africans , a mixed society in Germany was seen as a threat to the national s identity. Jews, in particular, were considered sub human. For this reason, under Hitler s Nazi regime, they were treated as animal or way differently from Germans. The Red Baron is a film directed by Nikolai Muellerschoen and produced by Niama Film which was released on April 10, 2008 but wasn t released in the US until March 19, 2010. This movie was based on a legendary German pilot who fought and died in World War 1. This pilot was known as Manfred von Richthofen. I believe that this film was nicely put together, the plot kept its viewers engaged and wanting to see what would happen next. In this essay I will be giving a brief explanation on the film and why it is or is not accurate and whether the producer did it on purpose or by mistake. At the beginning of the movie which takes place in 1906, Manfred is still a child. As a kid Manfred is out hunting with his younger brother Lothar von Richthofen and younger cousin, Wolfram Freiherr von Richthofen. Suddenly the sound of an airplane flying nearby flies over them. Amazed, Manfred jumps on his horse and follows the airplane with his arms spread out as though they were the wings of a plane themselves. This foreshadows him becoming a pilot in the future. After this scene the movies jumps ten years into the future which happens to be during World War 1. After the ten years have passed Manfred is a Lieutenant and is serving as a fighter pilot for the Imperial German Air Service. Lieutenant Richthofen is shown flying along the Western front where they drop a wreath over the funeral of an Allied pilot. Symbols such as the smiley pin, clocks, and the haunting who watches the watchmen graffiti all come up several times in the graphic novel, thus alluding to a deeper meaning. Time is a major theme throughout the comic and plays a significant part in the structure and outcome of the story. This theme is successfully coupled to the theme of destiny by the use of the clock and other symbols that are present throughout the comic. Symbols such as clocks, the smiley pin, and the graffiti are utilized to efficiently connect the themes of time, justice and loss of innocence throughout Watchmen. The clocks in Watchmen are used to foreshadow the future events in the novel and connect the theme of morality to the theme of time. Other than the literal connection between calling themselves Watchmen and actual watches, clocks and time in general play a huge part in the arc of the comic s storyline. Doctor Manhattan s father was a watchmaker before learning that time is relevant and therefore useless. Jon himself finds this out through his own experience with time and seeing back and forth through it. This is particularly important because the whole reason he became a superhero is because of a watch: (Moore 4.7 8) The last thing the reader sees is Jon holding the watch before he is disintegrated by the nuclear reactor. Unfortunately, ever since the conflict began, little to no progress has been made in solving the Israeli Palestinian conflict. There is a tremendous amount of history encompassing the dispute because it changes dramatically depending on which side is describing their point of view and when they believe the conflict started. The United States, Great Britain, the United Nations, and many other countries have attempted to mediate both parties in order to work towards a solution; however, all of their efforts have been unsuccessful because the Israeli Palestinian conflict is the direct result of Great Britain s lack of ability to maintain consistent foreign policy in Israel, Palestine, and Egypt. The fundamental issue in the Israeli Palestinian conflict remains who has rights to the land which encompasses Israel, the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank. Jewish claims to the land are based on the biblical promise to Abraham and his descendants, on the fact that Palestine was the historical site of the Jewish kingdom of Israel and on Jews need for a haven from European anti Semitism. This is true in a optimistic society According to SparkNotes.com: Pangloss and his student Candide maintain that everything is for the best in this best of all possible worlds. This idea is a reductively simplified version of the philosophies of a number of Enlightenment thinkers, most notably Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz. To these thinkers, the existence of any evil in the world would have to be a sign that God is either not entirely good or not all powerful, and the idea of an imperfect God is nonsensical. These philosophers took for granted that God exists, and concluded that since God must be perfect, the world he created must be perfect also. According to these philosophers, people perceive imperfections in the world only because they do not understand God s grand plan. Because Voltaire does not accept that a perfect God (or any God) has to exist, he can afford to mock the idea that the world must be completely good, and he heaps merciless satire on this idea throughout the novel. The optimists, Pangloss and Candide, suffer and witness a wide variety of horrorsВ—floggings, rapes, robberies, unjust executions, disease, an earthquake, betrayals, and crushing ennui. Additional... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He established that the N170 reacted best to human faces compared to animal faces, cars, scrambled pictures, or hands. However, the N170 reacted the highest when volunteers were presented pictures of isolated eyes. This indicated that the neural mechanism is fine tuned to identify human physiognomic features. Bentin discovered the importance the N170 performs in the perception facial expressions. Furthermore, he challenged the assumption that inversion of faces impaired the structural encoding phase by presenting volunteers with inverted and upright faces. The amplitude and distribution of the N170 of the upright and inverted faces was particularly analogous, and this lead to the impression that this specific ERP component encodes facial structures in lieu of an entire face. Furthermore, Bentin also noted the differences in the recordings of the scalp recorded N170 to the subdural N200. There is a 20msec latency in the N200 recordings, and the N200 recordings are correlated with the fusiform face specific processing. While the N200 structurally encodes the face, the N170 is a specific eye processor that interprets gaze and orientation. Additional studies verified the conjecture that the N170 is targeted for eyes. In one experiment when the eyes were directed to the viewer compared to gazing away a larger N170 was noted (McCarthy et al., 1999). This principal attribute of human eye recognition ... Advantages And Disadvantages Of RS-422 RS 422: RS 422 ,also known as TIA/EIA 422 is a technical standard originated by Electronic Industries Alliance that specifies electrical characteristics of a digital signaling circuit. It is the physical interface used for uni directional or bi directional communication of OBC of PNSS 1 with different units i e DHU(data handling unit),MGT,earth sensor, sun sensor, magnetorquer, magnetometer and with reaction wheels. It is serial communication standard which provides asynchronous communication capabilities such as hardware flow control, software flow control and parity check. One of the key advantage of using RS 422 standard is that each signal line consist of two wires that are twisted together to reduce noise that results in high data rates.The... IP of AMBA is implemented on FPGA that supports plug and play method for available IP cores from Gaisler Research IP Library (GRLIB).Among five different interfaces within AMBA specification,AHB(Advanced High performance Bus) architechture has some additional features i e single clock edge protocol, split transactions, several bus masters, pipelined operation, large bus width(64/128 bit) etc. Typical AMBA AHB system design consist of the following components: AHB master: AHB master is able to start read and write operation by providing address and control information.Only one bus master can use it at a time. AHB slave: It basically responds to the read and write operation within specific range.Signals are transmitted back to the master which indicates the success or failure of the data transfer. AHB arbiter: This basically ensures that only one bus master can initiate data transfer.Any arbitration algorithm such as highest priority or fair access can be implemented according to application requirement. British Imperialism Adam Dees Dr. Herman WOH1030 2 April 2015 Impact of British Imperialism In the late 1800 s, European nations only controlled about 10 percent of the continent of Africa, France to the north and Britain to the south (Edgar, 2008). As time goes by, other countries gain conquests, mostly in western areas of Africa. This essay will go over a few key points in history that led to the Age of Imperialism and the British colonization of Southern Africa. The essay will also identify key players in this age. Southern Africa was known for its gold and other valuable items that made it so appealing to Europeans. This and many other reasons led to wars over the areas that had high gold content. In the mid 1800 s European nations begin seizing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Britain was also interested in areas known to be rich in minerals like the country of Transvaal, (David, 2011). They also aimed at keeping other countries out of their territories so as to not lose the upper hand in the search for gold and priceless gems. Because of this plan to keep other countries out, by the late 1800 s Britain was in control of about 30% of Africa s population. Although the plan to abolish slavery, set down by the regulations put out by the Berlin conference, slavery still flourished in the Congo. A French missionary by the name of Cardinal Charles Lavigerie, exposes King Leopold as the sole profiteer of slave trade in the Congo, (David, 2011). So at a sermon in Paris at St. Sulpice in 1888, Lavigerie shocked the people with the horrible things King Leopold s men were subjecting the natives of Africa to (David, 2011). At this, Brussels Conference, King Leopold would agree to abolish Arab slave trade in return for the right to tax imports, (David, 2011). On the subject of African Resistance, conflicts between natives did not change during the invasion from outside nations. Those that were in conflict stayed in conflict. Because of this continuing conflict, there was not unification of the people of Africa to rise up against these invaders and take back what is theirs, (Talton). There were to ways that the resistance was being handled, by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. The Exploitation Of Land Is Justified Essay The economy today runs on an antiquated ritual of exploiting, plundering, devastation, and manipulation of land for material wealth, profiting the wealthy and condemning the poor. This mindset is no more sophisticated than feudalism, a system so bad it had to be outlawed along with witchcraft. The idea that exploitation of land is justified has brought plastics to the ocean and leveled rainforests. Large corporations have grown larger by manufacturing and production, depleting the planet s resources in the process. Now, companies must make a combined effort to put the environment first, before profit. Because of their harmful practices, consumers have the right to know where products come from, how they re made, and the impact on the environment. Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the large corporations to change their harmful practices, to make strides towards ending climate changeand use clean, sustainable methods. With the combination of polymers that don t biodegrade and mass overproduction, companies are harming the environment in severe ways. Plastic, a material seen everywhere, is a polymer made from oil. It is mass produced to make everything from shampoo bottles to automobiles and does not biodegrade. When it is eventually thrown out, the waste usually finds it way into the ocean, where it is either buried under sediment or eaten by marine life (Weisman 287 295). Creating a material that will ultimately kill marine life will undoubtedly wreak havoc on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
