loyal to the Shah and his regime. He created the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to protect the
revolution within his country and keep the conventional army forces, who remained loyal to the Shah,
from rising up against him. He also hoped that the large population of Shi a Muslims in Iraq would
support his mission and rise up against their secular leader; this would keep the revolution going
strong.
Iran cut all ties with the United States and lost its dominance in the area; it s army was disorganized
and weak. The Iranian Revolution created disorder in many Iranian military units and Iranian
confrontation with the U.S. ensured it would be cut off from its primary weapons supplier. During the
year after the fall of the Shah, many areas of Iran were approaching civil war; this frenzy in Iran made
the country seem much more vulnerable than it really was, and led Saddam Hussein to feel he had his
first genuine opportunity to make Iraq the dominant power in the area and the Arab world (Cordesman
Wagner, 1990).
Hussein knew that there was a possibility that the Shi a population in Iraq could rise against him, but
he also knew there was a chance that he could get the Arabs in the southwest regions or Iran to rally
behind him. Iran publicly supported Shi a and Kurdish rebellion in Iraq and due to tense relationships
and continued border clashes over territorial disputes, tensions increased.
Finally, Hussein recaptured the areas that rightfully belonged to Iraq in

Scott s Miracle Gro Case Summary
Objective The objective of this study is to decide the best decision for Scott s Miracle Gro on whether
to outsource their production to china or stay in the Temecula plant in California. Factors such as
risks/benefits, and cost analysis will be considered in reaching an outcome onto what will be the best
option for Scott s Miracle Gro in order to maximize profit, efficiency, and long term growth.
Suggestions The best option for Scott s Miracle Gro is to stay in the United States. This will benefit
the company financially and will help keep the product quality standards high. However, some
production cost need to be cut down in order to remain competitive and keep profit at a percentage
they would make if the company would outsource ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A cost analysis has been performed for Scotts Miracle Gro using the location of Temecula, CA and the
estimated usage of 8,000,000 kWh s of electricity per year. It has been determined that by
implementing solar energy panels to offset 50% of the plants annual electricity usage, this will provide
the company with the following incentives (please refer to Exhibit 2 for the full cost analysis): An
average monthly savings of $559,600, An average 25 year savings of $279,660,603.33, A ROI of
215.82%, Only a 14.58 breakeven point, 30% Annual Federal Tax Credit, and The peace of mind
knowing that the company is helping offset their carbon emission to protect our diminishing
environment, also creating a good public image. Raw Materials Costs In 2006, Scotts Miracle Gro
spent $105.8 million in raw materials, a $28.3 million increase from 2005 (Supply Chain
Management, 155). Although this increase in raw material costs is partly attributed to price inflation,
Scotts Miracle Gro can implement new production processes to save in raw material costs. The most
predominant raw material used by Scotts Miracle Gro products is plastic resin. In order to save on
costs, the Temecula plant should find ways to reduce material input without changing the quality of
the product. Also, excess plastic resin should be recycled back into the production process. Not only
will this decrease the amount of raw materials used and wasted, but it will also help decrease the
disposal cost of used

Comparison Between Tombstone Blues And Desolation Row
If members of the folk establishment felt conflicted by Dylan s success, they would soon be enraged
by his break out performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, in which he ushered in the era of
folk rock. Despite lyrical genius, folk music had been unable to touch the primal urges released
through rock and roll, inhibiting the genre from reaching a mass audience. Dylan combined folk with
rock in a way that brought the best traits in each to bear. He filled rock s lyrical vacuum with
Tombstone Blues and Desolation Row, among others. Tombstone Blues infuses an exciting rock and
roll beat with surreal lyrics that maintain Dylan s individualism. Desolation Row continues this trend;
the listener pictures cultural icons in absurdist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dylan explained his 1965 transition in an interview that same year, explaining to reporter Charles
Champlin that songs aren t gonna save the world. He goes on to dispel the notion that he is a teacher
or a leader, even going so far as to reject labels like poet. Frustrated with pop culture s simple minded
political commitment, he makes a shambles of it. Desolation Row demands listeners question the
significance of which side one is on, when we are all sitting aboard the sinking Titanic. No longer
enacting change through his art, Dylan now satirizes any who are naive enough to believe they can
save the world. The satire appears mainly directed at elites who intellectualized their commitment [to
far away folks ] without having true feelings. During the later portion of the 1960 s, Dylan turned his

benefits are a protection for people that is down on their luck and need some extra assistance. Laffer
states in the article that the most clear contention against developing or raising unemployment benefits
is that it will make being unemployed either more appealing or less ugly, and along these lines lead to
higher unemployment. Unemployment benefits are an incredible approach to stimulate request.
According to this article, practical judgment skills and individual experience demonstrate higher

Jon Fries, Fletcher Anderson, Craig Schuster, and Catherine Sprauer are the main figures in this case
and they had important responsibilities in F C International, Inc.
Jon Fries was the President, CEO, and managing director of F C international, Inc. He was in charge
of the total management of the company. The key responsibilities of Jon Fries were to align the
company, internally and externally, with his strategic vision. His duties were to facilitate business
outside of the company while guiding employees and other executive officers towards a central
objective. As a CEO, Jon Fries had high interaction with F C`s independent auditors, but he misguided

of June 1992 and there were some other fraudulent activities came in her attention but she did not
mention them to independent auditors. As the management of the F C International, it was the
responsibility of all these professionals to report the illegal and fraudulent activities to independent

the downfall of the company. Fries used inappropriate methods to realize his company s operating
results, to inflate revenues and overstate period end inventories. He used his position to come up with
a big fraud which was an unethical approach by a CEO of a Company. It was highly unethical ( 100

Health Care Reform 2010
For the first time in U.S. history, every American will have access to quality, affordable health care
under the updated health insurance reform legislation passed by the House. The Affordable Health
Care for America Act or H.R. 3962, blends and updates the three versions of previous bills passed by
the House committees. (Kruger, M. 2010) This bill is expected to ease the out of control costs of
health insurance, introduce competition into the health care marketplace that will help maintain
coverage affordability, protect people s choices of doctors and health plans, and guarantee all
Americans access to quality, consistent, affordable health care.

Under existing law, therefore, the tax is clearly constitutional. Many important and popular
government programs are based on Congress s ability to give incentives through taxation and

to the New Deal.
Other opposing views against the mandates argue that the bill and won t produce what was promises

Summary Of Cat s Cradle And Dr. Strangelove
In the 20th century, the shadow of the Cold War hung over the world, dividing it politically and
therefore creating palpable tension. In addition to this tense atmosphere, great advances occurred in
science and technology, such as the space race and numerous inventions which launched the world
into the scientifically advanced age in which we now live. However, the abilities of these break
throughs also had negative capabilities which caused great paranoia throughout the world in the 20th
c. In both the novel Cat s Cradle and the film Dr. Strangelove, the creators Vonnegut and Kubrick,
respectively, highlight the multifaceted power of scientific progress in the context of satirical pieces of
entertainment which are intended to make their audiences aware of problems in the 20th c. world and
hopefully spark change. Vonnegut cleverly utilizes satirical elements such as exaggeration, farce, and
parody, to get across to his readers the power of science and the importance of understanding humans
roles in it. Towards the beginning of the novel, the invention ice nine is introduced as having been
created by Felix Hoenikker and is described just as a group of girls dressed in white comes to Dr.
Breed s office and sings O Little Town of Bethlehem with importance placed on the line The hopes
and fears of all the years are here with us tonight (Vonnegut 47). By pointing out the contrast between
the almost angelic singers and the scientists in the office, Vonnegut is able

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Energy Efficient Medium...
1 ) Energy Efficient Medium Access Protocol
A medium access control layer is the most suitable level to address the energy efficiency.
This layer is used to coordinate node access to the shared wireless medium. The MAC is the core of
communication protocol stack which provides the basic for achieving Quality of Service (QoS) in any
wireless networks. A versatile MAC should support diverse applications and different types of data
such as continuous, periodic, burst and non periodic data along with high level QoS. MAC plays a
major determining factor in improving overall network performance. The fundamental task in MAC
protocol is to avoid collisions and to prevent simultaneous transmissions while preserving maximum
throughput, minimum latency, communication reliability and maximum energy efficiency. It is
important to note that while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In all the three processes of basic operation, communication should be initiated by the master.
Moreover, only one slave node can join the network at a time.
2) BodyMAC
Fang and Dutkiewicz in [28] propose energy efficient TDMA based MAC protocol for WBAN. In this
protocol, packet collision, idle listening and control packet overhead have been reduced by allocating
three bandwidth management schemes: Burst Bandwidth, Periodic Bandwidth and Adjust Bandwidth
in order to improve energy efficiency. An efficient sleep node is introduced to turn off a node s radio,
especially for the nodes supporting low duty cycle applications.
The MAC frame in BodyMAC protocol has three parts:
Beacon, downlink and uplink sub frames.
The beacon serves the purpose MAC layer synchronization. The downlink frame is used for
transmission from gateway to node, which can accommodate on demand traffic. The uplink frame
consists of two sub parts: Contention Access Part (CAP) and Contention Free Part

Bryson Tiller s A Walk In The Woods

narrates his experience and what he went through with his friend Katz. He frequently takes a pause
from narrating though, and goes into giving information and statistics about the Appalachian Trail,
mostly about how it is not well taken care of. So, it is safe to say that a theme or purpose for him
writing this book is to make people see that nature needs to be protected. Nature is important for
everything and everyone, more than humans are important for nature since humans are the ones
slowly destroying it. He also mentions how after hiking he felt stronger and healthier. He is almost
thanking the trail for bringing him where he is now, and it comes back to the importance of taking care
of nature because people can feel revitalized after spending some time in it. Bryson describes the
Appalachian trail over the years and how it has changed, largely in a negative way due to the poor care
it has received from Forest Services. He mentioned the loss and extinction of trees in the trail. He

Technology And Its Impact On The Medical Field
In the world we live in today technology is always advancing; having many great effects in our
personal lives and in the medical field, one of which being the technical advances on magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI). MRIs have been a great resource for us to use to help diagnose people in a
way we have never been able to before. A magnetic resonance imaging scan uses a large magnet, radio
waves, and a computer to create a detailed cross sectional image of the patient s internal organs and
structures, (Lam). Being able to examine patients in a noninvasive way and take pictures of what their
organs look like is a huge medical advance proving to us that we can help diagnose more people in a
less harmful way and are able to treat them faster and give them a better prognosis. But we cannot
forget what came before the MRI, which was nuclear resonance imaging (NMR). NMR is the key
piece to magnetic resonance imaging and if it weren t for the discovery of NMR and it s many uses we
wouldn t have MRI scanners. The evolution of MRIs has left a profound impact on the scientific
community, particularly in the field of medicine. Before bringing up the topic of MRI scanners it
would be useful to have some background information on the science behind it all. Starting with
nuclear resonance imaging, what it is, the discovery itself, and how it became relevant to the topic of
MRI scanners. NMR spectroscopy is the use of NMR phenomena to study the physical, chemical, and

What Went Wrong At Boeing
The 787 was conceived as a revolutionary design that would be a replacement for the aging 767, cost
about the same, but be 20% more fuel efficient. It would accomplish this by utilizing a construction of
50% composite something never before attempted in the commercial aviation arena. In summary,
Boeing was endeavoring to build a brand new clean sheet aircraft from materials never used, using
methods never attempted, and using a supply chain more far reaching than ever experienced by the
plane maker.
In retrospect, it may be easy to see why the 787 has had so many problems. The problems are so large
that Forbes was prompted to publish an article titled, What Went Wrong at Boeing. (Denning 2013)
Boeing has worked through most of its supply chain woes and has delivered over 60 787s to date.
Boeing is now designing a next generation version of its supremely popular 777, the 777 8/9.
Boeing s desire to reduce costs and production time by relying risk taking suppliers to design and
produce major aircraft components has led to many failures and cost overruns in the 787 program. In
order for Boeing to avoid the pitfalls of the 787 program, Boeing must take the lessons of the past in
concert with good technology to ensure good management of the new 777 supply chain. Literature
Review
Boeing s move toward a supply chain that relied on utilizing risk taking suppliers for the 787 was
meant to reduce the design timeframe and shorten the production cycle, however it actually

Importance Of Brady Rule Equivalents
THE BRADY RULE EQUIVALENT APPLICABLE TO PEB PROCEEDINGS ADOPTED BY
SECNAVCORB SHOULD BE CODIFIED AND CONSIDERED A RIGHT BECAUSE DOING SO
WILL ALLOW FOR SERVICE MEMBERS DISABILITIES TO BE ASSESSED MORE FAIRLY.
While the courts have held that a Brady Rule equivalent is not required in administrative proceedings,
several Federal administrative agencies have nonetheless adopted Brady Rule equivalents in their
respective proceedings. Those agencies decided to adopt such equivalents for various reasons, though;
many of their lines of reasoning can be traced back to their desires for providing fairness in their
respective proceedings. One agency that has adopted a Brady Rule equivalent is the SECNAVCORB.
The SECNAVCORB is an administrative entity within the Department of the Navy that is responsible
for issuing internal instructions for several component boards, one of which is the PEB. The PEB is an
administrative board that acts on behalf of the SECNAV to make determinations of Fitness to continue
naval service, entitlement to benefits, disability ratings, and disposition of service members referred to
it. The purpose of the PEB is to fairly assess the affect service members disabilities have on their
Fitness for naval service. To make its Fitness determinations, the PEB considers information that is in
a service members case file and presented by the service member in administrative hearings. In

law rushes into convictions before getting complete facts. Maybe a small town needed revenge which
could lead to a wrong conviction. It could be from ignorance of the law . Most are not aware of their
rights and what could be said that might falsely incriminate a person. There are also the forced
confessions by police who threaten or use scare tactics to get a false confession. Most wrongfully

There was no evidence collected and tested at the crime scene which could have proved who
committed the murders. A lieutenant who contacted a juvenile officer in Memphis both agreed that the

who was involved in a cult and said this juvenile could be capable of a crime like this. The accused,
Damien Echols, was immediately interviewed and asked questions that the police believed no one but
the killer would know the answers to. The answers that were given by Damien Echols were known

strange and different and he was not considered normal in the communities beliefs. He was considered
guilty by his Wiccan beliefs and his gothic appearance. Not only was Damien deemed guilty of this
crime, but two other boys were also accused of these murders. There are many inconsistencies with
the case. The police did not collect all evidence in the woods that could have been collected to

experienced many of the challenges that refugees face. Some of the challenges that she faced were
adapting to a new life in the US, making friends, and finding home, these challenges that Ha faced
also reflect on the universal refugee experience.
People from all over the world face traumatizing experiences that cause them to leave their home
countries. War, famine, natural disasters, persecution, and discrimination are just a few of the reasons
people flee. For example, in the excerpt from Children of War, the author states, the war in the
Balkans has caused grievous suffering for millions of people (Brice). Inside Out and Back Again
represents that universal experience as well when Ha states, people run and scream Communists! (Lai
68) which refers to how the war has led the Communists to take over Ha s home of Saigon. Clearly Ha
is experiencing what refugees all over the world experience when they have to flee their home
countries because of war.
All refugees face many challenges when fleeing home. Some challenges that they have to face are loss
of a family member or trying to adapt to a new

Super Sized Communication Essay
Messages distributed by institutions such as the media have the potential to reach very large and
anonymous audiences in a process called mass communication. In the movie Super Size Me, Morgan
Spurlock documents a month of eating McDonald s, only to prove how food media affects the way
Americans are living extremely unhealthy lives. According to The Mediated Communication Process
(modified Westley MacLean model) communication starts with an event, which in this case is the two
teenage girls that decided to sue McDonald s for their obesity, then there are sources, a message, a
communicator, another message and then the audience.
There really are people in our country that are suing a food company for making them fat. This is the

What kind of message is the food industry sending when one fourth of the McDonalds in Manhattan
don t have any nutritional information whatsoever ? On the streets of New York random people were
asked what a calorie was and not one person could define the word a calorie is the measure of the
energy content in food. Wouldn t it be wise of the food industry to inform people of this information
rather than to just post the nutrition facts on the side of a box? It is a form of media literacy when next
to the picture of a salad they write healthy when in reality McDonalds salads are less healthy than a
quarter pounder.
Morgan Spurlock is the communicator in this process. Through the world of entertainment he decided
that he should let America know how we are eating. His way of distributing the message was to create
this documentary on McDonalds. The communicator analyzes the information and passes on a version
of it to the audience. The message that Morgan Spurlock is sending out is more a form of
infotainment, a blur of information and entertainment. America is the audience and we are the one s
that eventually have to decide how we want our nation to live.
Due to semantic noise everyone can and will view this movie differently, but as long as we realize that
we are overweight, than we have made a step in the right direction. After people view this movie some
will react with banning McDonalds from their

Wilson Fisk Research Paper
Wilson Fisk, the kingpin of crime in the Netflix series Daredevil, evinces a perfect comic book black
and white mortality. The two sided criminal was loving to his mother, girlfriend, and in his own
perversive way, the city of New York. From a human psyche standpoint nevertheless; what drove Fisk,
what are his reasons for his criminal ways, and what caused him to be that way? Fisk was born in New
York City to a drunk father and a caring mother. His father constantly beat his mother and made Fisk
stare at the wall and hear his mother suffer. As this continued Fisk had, had enough and walloped his
father to death with a hammer, smashing his skull in with every blow. His mother then decided to cut
up her husband s body and dump a piece of it in the river every night for weeks. The only thing that
Fisk kept of his fathers were his cufflinks, which he wore to remind him of his father s true nature.
This event is what started Fisk s path to being the Kingpin of New York. That s why I still wear these,
to remind myself that I m not cruel for the sake of cruelty, that I m not my father... (Fisk to Vanessa
Marianna). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His terminal goal was to tear down Hell s Kitchen and rebuild it from the ground up, and in his mind,
he felt that he was doing a good thing. This city and its future seeing Hell s Kitchen to its fullest
potential is very important to me. (Fisk to Vanessa Marianna). All he wanted in his life was to see Hell
s Kitchen glimmer with prosperity, and the only way he knew how to do that was by organizing a huge
gang of criminals to get that end goal. Something in Fisk s deep physiological mind felt the need for
mass destruction to mass prosperity. Maybe it was from his destructive father who embedded in his
mind that you have to destroy what you love to get what you

Bilbo Baggins Quotes
Bilbo Baggins Is A Hero A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and
endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. This quote by Christopher Reeves is a great description of
Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo is just an ordinary hobbit. There is not anything exciting about his life. He lives
in a quiet house, in a quiet town, with quiet people. Bilbo is a plain and simple individual. Throughout
the book, however, Bilbo is faced with difficulties that he never dreamed would confront him. Instead
of cowering away, Bilbo shows that he has the strength to prevail against his greatest enemies. This
strength that Bilbo finds, along with other traits, are why I believe the he is a hero. These are a few of
the characteristics that define ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was loyal to the dwarves throughout their journey. Bilbo did not leave them, even when he had the
opportunities and the rights to go back home. For instance, after he escaped the goblin s cave, the
dwarves did not know where he went. Bilbo could have easily slipped away, but instead, he searched
for them. He could have traveled home, Bilbo missed his home very much, but he thought about how
the dwarves have been trying to return home for many, many years. Bilbo thought about his friends
feelings, not just his own. He was willing to help them even when it meant danger for himself. Bilbo
shows courage in the face of danger. He did not turn back when he faced the trolls, spiders, goblins, or
even Smaug. Bilbo had never encountered any dangerous monsters before this adventure. Still, he
defied them all, and many times alone. He had to rely only on himself. Luckily, Bilbo was also very
clever. He was able to have Gollum show him the way out of the Goblin cave while avoiding him
instantaneously. Also, when the dwarves were imprisoned by the wood elves, Bilbo created a plan that
lead to their escape. If it were not for his masterful ideas, then the dwarves may have rotted in prison.
In the Misty Mountains, he was able to talk to Smaug and still live to tell the tale. Though, Bilbo did
not start off as a hero. It was throughout his adventure that he became

John Steinbeck Accomplishments
John Emst Steinbeck was bom on Febmary 27, 1902, in Salinas,
Califomia. The time and place of his birth are important because
Steinbeck matured as an artist in his early thirties and during the darkest days of the Depression, and
his most important fictions are set in his beloved Salinas Valley. In one sense, Steinbeck s location in
time and place may have made him a particularly American artist. Bom just after the closing of the
frontier, Steinbeck grew up with a fmstrated modem
America and witnessed the most notable failure of the American
Dream with the Great Depression. He was a writer who inherited the great tradition of the American
Renaissance of the nineteenth century and who was forced to reshape it in terms of the historical and

Like his first divorce, this one was bitter and expensive. In the same year, his mentor,
Ed Ricketts, was killed in a car accident. Steinbeck traveled extensively, devofing himself to film and
nonfiction projects. In 1950, he married Elaine Scott, establishing a supportive relationship that
allowed him to finish his epic Salinas Valley novel East of Eden.
Steinbeck tried again and again to write his way back to the artistic success of his earlier years,
notably in The Wayward Bus, but his commercial success kept getting in the way. East of Eden, his
major postwar novel, was an attempt at another Califomia epic to match the grandeur of The Grapes of
Wrath. Although the book was a blockbuster best seller, it was an artistic and critical failure. Steinbeck
himself seemed to recognize his own decline, and in his last years he virtually abandoned ficfion for
joumalism.
Of his last novels, only The Winter of Our Discontent transcends mere entertainment, and it does not
have the literary stmcture necessary to support its serious themes. Despite the popularity of Steinbeck
s nonfiction, such as Travels with Charley, despite awards such as the Nobel Prize and the Presidential
Medal of Freedom, and despite

Although being completely based on the story, the movie has many differences as well as similarities
and can be easily compared and contrasted. First, are the differences between the movie and the
textbook. A significant difference is the Chicago conference and Charlie s speech at the conference.
Although mentioned in the text book, the conference is never explained in full detail. It was a wise
decision of the director to implement this into the movie since it gives you Charlie s perspective and
opinion of the whole experiment. During the speech he explains how Dr. Strauss basically
manipulated him, and, Charlie also counter states Dr. Strauss s opinion on the old Charlie, where
Strauss calls him a mistake of nature and other harsh things. Seeing the firm tone and serious
expressions in Charlie as he presents his speech really reveals some of Charlie s strong opinions.
Another significant difference is

  • 3. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps loyal to the Shah and his regime. He created the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to protect the revolution within his country and keep the conventional army forces, who remained loyal to the Shah, from rising up against him. He also hoped that the large population of Shi a Muslims in Iraq would support his mission and rise up against their secular leader; this would keep the revolution going strong. Iran cut all ties with the United States and lost its dominance in the area; it s army was disorganized and weak. The Iranian Revolution created disorder in many Iranian military units and Iranian confrontation with the U.S. ensured it would be cut off from its primary weapons supplier. During the year after the fall of the Shah, many areas of Iran were approaching civil war; this frenzy in Iran made the country seem much more vulnerable than it really was, and led Saddam Hussein to feel he had his first genuine opportunity to make Iraq the dominant power in the area and the Arab world (Cordesman Wagner, 1990). Hussein knew that there was a possibility that the Shi a population in Iraq could rise against him, but he also knew there was a chance that he could get the Arabs in the southwest regions or Iran to rally behind him. Iran publicly supported Shi a and Kurdish rebellion in Iraq and due to tense relationships and continued border clashes over territorial disputes, tensions increased. Finally, Hussein recaptured the areas that rightfully belonged to Iraq in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Factors such as risks/benefits, and cost analysis will be considered in reaching an outcome onto what will be the best option for Scott s Miracle Gro in order to maximize profit, efficiency, and long term growth. Suggestions The best option for Scott s Miracle Gro is to stay in the United States. This will benefit the company financially and will help keep the product quality standards high. A cost analysis has been performed for Scotts Miracle Gro using the location of Temecula, CA and the estimated usage of 8,000,000 kWh s of electricity per year. It has been determined that by implementing solar energy panels to offset 50% of the plants annual electricity usage, this will provide the company with the following incentives (please refer to Exhibit 2 for the full cost analysis): An average monthly savings of $559,600, An average 25 year savings of $279,660,603.33, A ROI of 215.82%, Only a 14.58 breakeven point, 30% Annual Federal Tax Credit, and The peace of mind knowing that the company is helping offset their carbon emission to protect our diminishing environment, also creating a good public image. Raw Materials Costs In 2006, Scotts Miracle Gro spent $105.8 million in raw materials, a $28.3 million increase from 2005 (Supply Chain Management, 155). Although this increase in raw material costs is partly attributed to price inflation, Scotts Miracle Gro can implement new production processes to save in raw material costs. The most predominant raw material used by Scotts Miracle Gro products is plastic resin. In order to save on costs, the Temecula plant should find ways to reduce material input without changing the quality of the product. Also, excess plastic resin should be recycled back into the production process. Not only will this decrease the amount of raw materials used and wasted, but it will also help decrease the disposal cost of used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Comparison Between Tombstone Blues And Desolation Row If members of the folk establishment felt conflicted by Dylan s success, they would soon be enraged by his break out performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, in which he ushered in the era of folk rock. Despite lyrical genius, folk music had been unable to touch the primal urges released through rock and roll, inhibiting the genre from reaching a mass audience. Dylan combined folk with rock in a way that brought the best traits in each to bear. He filled rock s lyrical vacuum with Tombstone Blues and Desolation Row, among others. Frustrated with pop culture s simple minded political commitment, he makes a shambles of it. Desolation Row demands listeners question the significance of which side one is on, when we are all sitting aboard the sinking Titanic. No longer enacting change through his art, Dylan now satirizes any who are naive enough to believe they can save the world. In addition to this tense atmosphere, great advances occurred in science and technology, such as the space race and numerous inventions which launched the world into the scientifically advanced age in which we now live. However, the abilities of these break throughs also had negative capabilities which caused great paranoia throughout the world in the 20th c. In both the novel Cat s Cradle and the film Dr. Strangelove, the creators Vonnegut and Kubrick, respectively, highlight the multifaceted power of scientific progress in the context of satirical pieces of entertainment which are intended to make their audiences aware of problems in the 20th c. world and hopefully spark change. Vonnegut cleverly utilizes satirical elements such as exaggeration, farce, and parody, to get across to his readers the power of science and the importance of understanding humans roles in it. Towards the beginning of the novel, the invention ice nine is introduced as having been created by Felix Hoenikker and is described just as a group of girls dressed in white comes to Dr. Breed s office and sings O Little Town of Bethlehem with importance placed on the line The hopes and fears of all the years are here with us tonight (Vonnegut 47). Nature is important for everything and everyone, more than humans are important for nature since humans are the ones slowly destroying it. He also mentions how after hiking he felt stronger and healthier. He is almost thanking the trail for bringing him where he is now, and it comes back to the importance of taking care of nature because people can feel revitalized after spending some time in it. Bryson describes the Appalachian trail over the years and how it has changed, largely in a negative way due to the poor care it has received from Forest Services. • 16. Technology And Its Impact On The Medical Field In the world we live in today technology is always advancing; having many great effects in our personal lives and in the medical field, one of which being the technical advances on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MRIs have been a great resource for us to use to help diagnose people in a way we have never been able to before. A magnetic resonance imaging scan uses a large magnet, radio waves, and a computer to create a detailed cross sectional image of the patient s internal organs and structures, (Lam). Being able to examine patients in a noninvasive way and take pictures of what their organs look like is a huge medical advance proving to us that we can help diagnose more people in a less harmful way and are able to treat them faster and give them a better prognosis. But we cannot forget what came before the MRI, which was nuclear resonance imaging (NMR). NMR is the key piece to magnetic resonance imaging and if it weren t for the discovery of NMR and it s many uses we wouldn t have MRI scanners. The evolution of MRIs has left a profound impact on the scientific community, particularly in the field of medicine. Before bringing up the topic of MRI scanners it would be useful to have some background information on the science behind it all. • 17. What Went Wrong At Boeing The 787 was conceived as a revolutionary design that would be a replacement for the aging 767, cost about the same, but be 20% more fuel efficient. It would accomplish this by utilizing a construction of 50% composite something never before attempted in the commercial aviation arena. In summary, Boeing was endeavoring to build a brand new clean sheet aircraft from materials never used, using methods never attempted, and using a supply chain more far reaching than ever experienced by the plane maker. In retrospect, it may be easy to see why the 787 has had so many problems. The problems are so large that Forbes was prompted to publish an article titled, What Went Wrong at Boeing. (Denning 2013) Boeing has worked through most of its supply chain woes and has delivered over 60 787s to date. Boeing is now designing a next generation version of its supremely popular 777, the 777 8/9. Boeing s desire to reduce costs and production time by relying risk taking suppliers to design and produce major aircraft components has led to many failures and cost overruns in the 787 program. In order for Boeing to avoid the pitfalls of the 787 program, Boeing must take the lessons of the past in concert with good technology to ensure good management of the new 777 supply chain. Literature Review Boeing s move toward a supply chain that relied on utilizing risk taking suppliers for the 787 was meant to reduce the design timeframe and shorten the production cycle, however it actually ...
