Pretty in Pink Essay
Pretty in Pink – Summary
Pretty in Pink is essentially a love story about a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, the rich high
school hunk who has his eye on her, and the peer pressure that threatens their budding romance. Molly
Ringwald plays the character of Andie Walsh, an unpopular poor girl living in the shabbier side of
town. Andrew McCarthy portrays the role of Blane McDonnagh, a wealthy heartthrob who asks her
out to the prom. As their romance evolves, both characters struggle with increasing pressure from their
peers whom are unsupportive of the relationship mostly because of the difference in social class. This,
however, doesn t necessarily hold true for two of the characters whose objections appear to derive

It is a pretty classic high school fight with teachers running out of their classrooms to intervene. I don
t think this scene does have a big modeling effect because unfortunately the kind of violence
nowadays has escalated to a whole different dimension. Long gone are the days where two kids fought
it out one on one with only their hands as weapons. Gangs, knives, bats, guns, or some other kind of
weapon play center stage in most of the altercations today. There is a level of underlying aggression in
this movie, almost like a pressure cooker slowly building until someone blows. Steff as the bad guy is
aggressive in nature, verbally harassing anyone he deems below him or in Andie s case, anyone who
has the gall to say no to him. He is really setting the stage for Duckie s (good guy) moment of
aggression, when exasperated and fed up with the entire situation, he physically attacks Steff. I think
Duckie has just about had it, and although most blows are obviously in defense of Andie, I think he
snuck in a couple for himself (unpopular teen) too! I would say the justification for this moment of
violence comes from the fact that this is probably years in the making. These teens are seniors in high
school, and I m sure anyone would blow their lid after what was most certainly fours years of
bullying. When Duckie glares Steff down in the hallway, he seems angry but also apprehensive of
acting upon his feelings until a cocky

The Englewood Board Of Education Meeting
The Englewood Board of Education meeting took place at the Grieco Elementary School in
Englewood, NJ. On March 17, 2016 and began promptly at 6:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria. The board is
made up of nine board members all sitting at a long table with the President of the board, Mr. Devry
Pazant who sat at the center of the table beside the newly appointed Superintendent, Mr. Robert
Kravitz.
I think it is important to point out a little background information on the Englewood School Board. I
have attended several of the school board meetings over the past three years and have witnessed a lot
of bitterness and dissatisfaction among the board members and attendees. It stems from a history of
inequities in the school system and a separation of high school and an Academy program that appears
to receive a large operating budget and administrative support on the same campus. With that said
there are members on the board who have children in the Academy program who have a vested
interest in the success of the program over what is best for all the students who attend the high school
or the program.
The Board President called the meeting to order, and the board secretary did the roll call. The agenda
was comprised of various reports and the secretary would go though each agenda item, beginning with
the board secretary s report, finance, personnel, listing of approvals for salaries that included names of
staff/faculty, retirements, leave of absences, bills, travel, field trips, etc.

Chris And Chase Compare And Contrast
Most siblings have a lot in common. Like the same interest. However, both of my sons Chris and
Chase are very different from each other. Although they are often mistaken for twins by strangers and
distant relatives. As their parent, I realize that they have very different eating habits, personalities and
hobbies. I often wonder how they turned out so different. Their appearance is one of the only things
they have in common. Chris and Chase have many similarities. Most of their features pulled from
their father s genes. None of mine are present! Both of my boys are very tall for their ages, and have
the very same height of 4ft. and weight of 60 pounds. Furthermore, they both have sandy brown, curly
hair, hazel eyes, really light skinned, and freckles from head to toe. Their round shaped face and
peanuts heads are identical. Easy for me, and less expensive because they also wear the same size
clothing. I often dress the same colors and outfits, so it makes it hard for strangers and distant relatives

Quality and Safety Two Sides of the Same Medal
Course work A Quality Management for Airline Operations (by John Davou), City University London.
Quality and Safety. Two sides of the same medal?
Quality and Safety are two commonly used terms generally in various industries and particularly the
aviation industry. For a comprehensive comparison between Quality and Safety, the first step would
be to outline the basic dictionary definitions which are most relevant.
Quality is defined as:
The standard of something as measured against other things of similar kinds
The degree of excellence of something
General excellence of standard or level
Safety is defined as:
The quality of averting or not causing injury, danger, or loss

Safety Management Systems SMS
Safety Management System (SMS) is a term used to refer to a comprehensive business management
system designed to manage occupational safety and health elements in the workplace.[2]
A Safety Management System provides a systematic way to identify hazards and control risks while
maintaining assurance that these risk controls are effective.[3] SMS can be defined as:
a businesslike approach to safety. It is a systematic, explicit and comprehensive process for managing
safety risks. As with all management systems, a safety management system provides for goal setting,
planning, and measuring performance. A safety management system is woven into the fabric of an
organization. It becomes part of the culture, the way people do their jobs .[4]
There are three imperatives for adopting a safety management system for a business these are ethical,
legal and financial. There is an implied moral obligation placed on an employer to ensure that work
activities and the place of work to be safe, there are legislative requirements defined in just about
every jurisdiction on how this is to be achieved and there is a substantial

Big Fish And Atonement Comparative Essay
The two movies Atonement and Big Fish are very similar although at first, the average viewer would
not normally acknowledge it. The two movies seem very different, from the calm narration of the
historical fiction movie Atonement and the wild extreme imagery that the narrators from Big Fish, a
fantasy drama film, expelled to the audience. Yet the narrators from these two movies are the aspects
that make these films similar. The film Atonement at first seemed like it had four different narrators,
Briony Tallis as a child, Briony Tallis as a young adult, Cecilia Tallis and Robbie. Brioney as a child

The major point in the story where a viewer can infer than Briony is an unreliable narrator was during
Briony s brother s welcome home dinner party. In this particular part in the film Briony s two twin
cousins, who came to stay with the Tallis family since their parents were getting divorced, ran away
and all the guests at the dinner party went searching for Briony s two cousins in the dark. When
Briony was searching for her cousins she flashed her flashlight towards the ground and saw the two
twin boys older sister that was staying with them, Lola, being raped by a man. Briony tells Lola she
saw the man s face who raped her and told her family that the man who raped Lola was Robbie.
Briony essentially ruins Robbie s life because of this rape allegation he gets sent to prison and enlists
in the army to become free, but ultimately dies from an infection. Where towards the end of the

Characteristics Of Revolutionary In The Revolution Of The...
The American Revolution was, in fact, revolutionary. Revolutionary means to work against. So, in this
case, there were many instances which made the American Revolution revolutionary. For example,
Benjamin Franklin wrote the quote, Join or Die, in 1754. This quote was intended to, urge the Thirteen
colonies to unite behind England in its struggle against the French and Native American forces during
the French and Indian war. This means that he was allies with the British. So, him and the British were
working together to work against the French.
But, unfortunately that alliance did not last very long because in 1775 the Battle of Bunker Hill was
fought between the British and the Americans. While the British ended up being victors of the battle,
the only thing they gained was a confidence boost. Also, in 1775 76 Thomas Paine wrote Common
Sense to advocate independence from Great Britain to people in the Thirteen colonies. While you
might think the French and Indian war was fought between the French and the Indians it was actually
fought between the French and the British while the Indians were divided between the two.
During the American Revolution there were two groups of people. Loyalists and Patriots. Loyalists
were the people who stood by the British during the American Revolution. The Loyalists, wanted to
pursue peaceful forms of protest because they believed that violence would give rise to mob rule or
tyranny. They also believed that independence would mean the

3. MARKET ANALYSIS
3.1. Research Findings
We gathered our information from various interviews from existing owners of football fields, as well
as the many potential players in the area. Our findings indicated that a demand for such a service
exists and that the potential players in the vicinity indeed demand for a real, proper, high quality field,
and an appealing price.
We initially had 3 locations planned in our mind to choose for our pitch: Muscat, Batinah, and AL
Sharqyiah. Muscat has an abundance of football fields and there was little demand from the players to
play in addition to the huge traffic in it. Al Sharqyiah, on the other hand, very little demand in the
region plus very high costs into creating the pitch. However, in Al Suwayq we found out that demand
for this service indeed exists and the market was well prepared.
We interviewed the competitors in the market and they told us that there is so much demand that
reservations need to be made at least 2 days prior the day that they play. Our target market is the male
youth in Al Suwayq. The total population is around 94,000 where 46,000 of them are male.
The strongest competitor, Al Nibras Field, is a big field, in a nice location, with good grass quality.
They were in this business for 3 years, so they have a well established fan base. Thus, it is quite

NFL Stadium Bargaining
A very recent example we can see of stadium bargaining is with the Los Angles Rams. It has been a
popular practice to threaten to move an NFL team to Los Angles ever since they lost their team in
1994. Since 1994, there have been twenty proposals by NFL teams threatening to move in order to get
stadiums publically financed (Wickersham, Natta, 2016). The St. Louis Rams were no different, they
wanted to get as much money as possible from St. Louis even though the city had been going through
tough economical times (Wickersham, Natta, 2016). Rams owner Stan Kroenke had a clause built into
his contract with the city that said if the Rams stadium ever fell below the top tier of stadiums in the
NFL they would get the public support of building a new stadium (Wickersham, Natta, 2016). The
problem was that Kroenke had his eyes on a stadium much larger than a top tier NFL ... Show more

The first way is to explain how many construction jobs will be created by the facility (Noll, Zimbalist,
1997, p 36). The second way is to establish that the fans that attend the games, generate a new outlet
of spending in the community, which will then expand local employment (Noll, Zimbalist, 1997, p
36). The team should then show that they bring in lots of tourism, which brings in money from outside
the city and can be spent on more local outlets like hotels, restaurants and tourists locations (Noll,
Zimbalist, 1997, p 36). Lastly, this stadium will help bring a multiplier effect to the city which
essentially forms when you create jobs, which pay people, which puts more money into their pockets,
which then gets spent somewhere else (Noll, Zimbalist, 1997, p 36). A good example of a slogan that

Richard Wagner was born May 22, 1813 in Leipzig, Germany (notablebiographies.com). Wagner was
a very important person in the nineteenth century due to his poetic writing and criticism

Strategic Human Resource Management Approaches
Strategic Human Resource Management is the joining of human resource activities and policies with
strategic organisational goals for the benefit of achieving and maintaining quality performance of the
organisation. The aim of SHRM is to effectively create strategic quality by ensuring that the
organisation possess the committed, skilled, productive and motivated employees it needs in order to
achieve sustained competitive advantage.

and finally reveal the one that I find the most convincing and the reasons why, by examining the four

This approach is regarded as the simplest approach in analysing different SHRM. best practice is all
about utilising certain approaches to not only deliver superior results but to also consider sustainability

makes it easier for organisation s to recognise bad practices.
They are Best Practices , because the implementation of this approach aims at improving the
performance of the organisation through additional, accountability, compliance, transparency and risk
control.
The exact meaning of best practices have become so diverse that organisations often move away from
the uniformity of the meaning. It is easy for employees to lose their voice within the organisation
using this model, and also changes made may not be appropriate from one department of the
organisation to another.
Very few businesses adopt the best practice model because it is difficult and also takes too long to
implement. There are limitations to this approach, like the fact that it is unitarist and does not take
employee perspective into account, they ignore national and organizational contexts. This approach is
crisis driven and actually has a poor track record. This approach has been

The question should people procreate is a very opinionated one. There is no right or wrong answer just
a personal opinion based on facts to support it, I happen to side with Hugh Lafollette in his essay
Licensing Parents . I will argue that before people are allowed to procreate they should have to obtain
a license which gives them the right to produce and raise children. Otherwise they should not be
allowed any children until they have the license. First I will look at it from the child s point of view
and explain how it is rational for them. Second I will look at the reasoning and policies of this theory.

Despite the trauma children often face before they are finally adopted, they are five times less likely to
be abused than children reared by their biological parents. (Lafollette 446). When you adopt you have
planned and dreamed of having this child instead of a mistake that you are now stuck with. When you
plan on having a child and are expecting it or wanting it there would be less resentment or frustration
towards that child. Having this process or program would definitely change the way the world is
today. It would reduce or diminish the babies produced for welfare checks. Seeing as how my sister
was one of those babies its terrible for parents to be dependent on the welfare checks which is for the
children but it doesn t end up actually helping the children to an equal or successful life. This just goes
to show an example of the parent that would not be given a

Kierkegaard Suicide
The human tendency to seek meaning in life is invariably at odds with the human inability to find any
(cite?). This fundamental disharmony necessitates an individual choice; according to 19th century
Danish philosopher Kierkegaard (who developed existentialist philosophy to confront this
disharmony), in order to resolve the dilemma one must either commit suicide, pursue belief in an
objective meaning determined by some transcendent being, or accept the absurdity of the universe
(Francis 16). Kierkegaard dismisses the first option as obviously inviable, and argues that the second,
while not necessarily rational, is a feasible solution (Kierkegaard 171). Albert Camus, who regards the
second as philosophical suicide, crafted modern absurdist

The Effects of Red and Processed Meat on Human Health and Diseases The Food and Agriculture
Organization states that each (non vegetarian) person in the United States, on average, consumes 270
pounds of meat annually, and according to the United States Department of Agriculture, about 71.2

While it is certainly a widespread stigma that vegetarian diets (including any diet lacking in meat or
animal protein) increase risk of vitamin deficiencies, however, the American Dietetic Association has
proclaimed that appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are
healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of
certain diseases (ADA 1).
There are many misconceptions of high deficiency risk in vegetarians, a select few being vitamin B12,
iron, and protein. While vitamin B12 is most conveniently available in the form of animal products,
supplements and fortified foods (such as enriched cereals or fortified plant milks) provide the
necessary amount of B12 in a healthy way. It is most logical to consume B12 from a non animal
source, as it provides the necessary amount of B12 without the extra saturated fats, sodium, and
harmful risks associated with eating

different people
Sean Connery is the best portrayer of James bond because he has the seriousness that a spy needs to
have however both Roger Moore and Daniel Craig are good actors they just don t give James Bond

of Bond when after electrocuting a bad guy in a bath tube he says Shocking. Positively shocking.

jokes about it like its everyday business. This allows for Connery s Lasting legacy as Bond, having

When this writing assignment was given to me, I sat and pondered about the three poems by T.S.
Elliot, Preludes Journey of the Magi and The Hollow Men and I wondered about which poem I
connected easiest with. I observed the poem, Preludes when I read the lines, And newspapers from
vacant lots...at the corner of the street...a lonely cab horse steams and stamps (Elliot, Preludes, page
1156 lines 8 11) in which I realized they were in a bustling city. I thought to myself, since living in a
small town all my life, that in the end I would not be able to easily connect with this piece of poetry.
Then in flipping a couple of pages and finding the poem, The Hollow Men and after reading this poem
and have Mr. McGee exegeses this piece of poetry to our class, I found to be a very empty and
depressing pessimistic poem . Which most of my life, I have had the privilege to look on the positive
side of things and live a very joy filled life; which left me with the last poem, Journey of the Magi .
After reading this poem, out of the three, this was the poem I had the strongest connection to and

Assyrian Art Essay
Assyrian Art
The reliefs from the palace of King Assurnasirpal II at Nimrud play an important role in portraying the
power and importance of the Assyrian king. These reliefs are similar to other Assyrian reliefs in terms
of their purpose; however, there is a contrast in the methods used to glorify the king. By examining
such factors as style, iconography and historical significance, we find many similarities and
differences between the ceremonial reliefs and the more common reliefs depicting war and hunting.
The reliefs belonging to the sacred or ceremonial category consist of panels depicting a sacred tree, a
human headed genius fertilizing a sacred tree, a griffin fertilizing a sacred tree, and a scene of King

In term of stylization, both the human headed deities and Assurnasirpal have very stylized hair falling
in straight locks to the back of their necks; furthermore, they possess highly stylized beards of intricate
waves and ringlets which end evenly at the bottom.
Because these features are similar to that of Assurbanipal and the mythological bullmen at the palace
at Khorsabad, it can be construed that it is a coiffure characteristic of royalty and divinity alike (Art
History Anthology 28).
Moving on to the facial expression, we find that all the human headed figures contain large eyebrows,
large eyes that are deeply undercut, an elongated nose, conventionalized ears, and highly
conventionalized lips which appear as a simple slit. On the other hand, the beardless griffin has an
eagle s head adorned with a feather headdress and a curved beak with a long tongue. To show the
strength of the deities and Assurnasirpal, the artist depicts muscles within the arms and legs through
simple lines and curves. This style of depicting the facial and body features is common in other
Assyrian reliefs including the hunting scenes of Assurbanipal.
Although there are many similarities in body structure, there is also a distinctive element that
separates the deities and the king. Each deity possesses a set of four highly stylized wings made up of

In the modern world people rely on organizations and systems for prosperity, insurance, etc. In most
of African societies like the Hofriyat, kinship still plays a major role in being social security, health
care and so on relying on the relationship with relatives and friends. Marriage became perceived as an
important factor since it forms the basic source of personal identity and economic advantages (Boddy
2007, p.61). Collective interest between individuals is pursued through marriages arranged by the
parents while subordinating the sexuality of young women and men to comply with the interest of the
social group according to the elders (Boddy 2007, 62). In Hofriyat society, sexual absence is a matter
of family honors. Failure to comply with this norm can lead to the family losing honor and the risk of
jeopardizing the chances of getting married, which will affect its economic statues, political leverage
and continuity of family line (Boddy 2007, 62). Looking at this aspect it is not surprising that honor is
mostly assigned in relations to young women. Men are also restricted to some behaviors, however
women lives are more cautiously patrolled (Boddy 2007, 62). This does not mean that women are
powerless, as an act of force is too considerate shameful, subordinates must desire to act properly.

Art Analysis Of Breaking Home Ties
Breaking Home Ties was a painting that was originally created for the cover of a magazine. The
magazine was called The Saturday Evening Post. The painting was debuted on the September 25,
1954 edition of the magazine. The setting of the picture seems to have taken place around the 1930 s
or 1940 s, around the depression era. The painting has many hidden messages that the painter tried to
portray. This picture has a very modern perspective as well that is very fascinating. In the painting, a
young man and his father are sitting on the running board of the family s farm truck waiting for a train
to arrive to pick up the young man for university. The expressions on both of the men s faces tell a
story all on its own. The young man seems to be very optimistic, while his father is dreading the
arrival of the train to pick him up. The father of the young man seems to be upset and in thought. The
expression on his face looks as if he is thinking back to when he was young and the opportunities he
had or didn t have, but he also seems to have an upset look on his face because he is letting go of his
son, possibly even his only son. His facial expression looks as if he is thinking back on his life and
what it was like for him, but also what the future will hold for himself and his son while he is away at
college. The young man looks like he is looking down the railway in the distance. He seems excited
and anxious to leave for university. The boy s face

The author Steven Levitt studied economics at Harvard University and MIT. He is primarily known
for his work in the field of crime. The title Freakonomics means a study of economics based on the
principles of incentives. The title is related to the book since he emphasizes how incentives drive and
affect people s actions. Although this book does not have a single theme, the main focus of the book is
a new way of interpreting the world using economic tools. He explores incentives, information
asymmetry, conventional wisdom, crime and abortion, and parenting throughout the six chapters of
the book. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an example of incentive, Levitt introduces a daycare study in which a daycare center fines $3 for
parents who comes late. The study finds out that the number of parents coming late increased as they
put a $3 of fine. He explains that the incentive of $3 was too small, and the fine made the parents to
not feel the moral guilt for showing up late, resulting in more parents being late.
Levitt next examines the incentives that cause people to cheat. The first example of cheating is a story
of teachers cheating in Chicago public schools. To avoid the risk of getting fired or getting penalty by
the government for low test scores, many teachers chose to cheat and inflate their students scores.
They cheated by allowing the students to have more time during test, giving away answers, and even
by changing students answers by themselves. In this case, we can see that the schoolteachers are
driven by economic incentives. For them, moral and social incentives are not as strong as economic
incentives. Similar cheating can be seen in sumo wrestling. In Japan, sumo wrestling is a very popular
sports and the high ranked wrestlers get great honor. Also, among sumo wrestlers, their rank
determines their salary, reputation, how they are treated, and even how much he gets to eat and sleep.
Because they are so desperate for higher rank, the incentive for cheating is very powerful. In the
crucial matches that determines sumo wrestler s ranking, they cheat by

Persuasive Essay On Animal Testing
Animal experimentation causes tremendous harm and suffering to otherwise innocent animals. The
cruelty level on testing ranges from food and water deprivation, to cosmetic purposes, to burning and
chemical exposures, to injections of diseases they would have otherwise never contracted on their
own, to purposeful death of an animal or groups of animals to see how it would take place or how
much an animal can withstand before termination (Humane Society International). The Silver Spring
Monkeys is known as the case that launched PETA. A member of PETA went undercover in a lab that
tested on 17 monkeys living in tiny wire cages that were caked with years of feces that had
accumulated (PETA). These monkeys were subjected to surgeries where their spinal nerves were
severed, rendering one or more of their limbs useless (PETA). Through the use of shock, food and
water deprivation, and other methods, the monkeys were forced to try to regain the use of their limb(s)
or go without food. The trauma of the monkeys imprisonment was so traumatizing they ripped away
their own flesh and had lost most of their fingers from getting them caught in tiny wire cage bars.
(PETA). Experimenters also neglected to feed the 17 monkeys and would often force them to dig
beneath their feces to try to locate food. The monkeys would be moved from cage to experimental
tables and rooms only with a choking rod placed around their neck. This case was the first Supreme

The History of African Americans in Film Essay
Minstrel shows were developed in the 1840 s and reached its peak after the Civil War. They managed
to remain popular into the early 1900s. The Minstrel shows were shows in which white performers
would paint their faces black and act the role of an African American. This was called black facing.
The minstrel show evolved from two types of entertainment popular in America before 1830: the
impersonation of blacks given by white actors between acts of plays or during circuses, and the
performances of black musicians who sang, with banjo accompaniment, in city streets. The father of

one of the more common songs such as ?Jim Crow?by Thomas Rice was simply inspired by a crippled
African American that Rice had seen dancing and singing a song with the chorus of ?Wheel about, an
turn about, an do jis so, Eb ry time I wheel about, I jump Jim Crow.? Many people were lead to
believe that this was how every African American sang and danced and failed to realize that this was
simply the way one man did it. Actual African American actors were rare at the time. There were only
a few African Americans that actually appeared on stage and those who did only had minor roles such
as servants or shoe shiners. This was mainly because the world was used to African Americans being
slaves doing jobs such as these and people weren?t ready to accept African Americans as equals yet.
There had however been several attempts of African American stage performance such as New York?s
African Grove theater. This theater was founded

Oil Sands Case Study
Canada has the world s third largest oil proved reserves, 96% of which are in the oil sands [1*]. In the
recent years, oil sands has held a significant role in the Canadian economy and energy security due to
pioneering movements and emerging technologies in this industry [2, 3]. However, the oil industry,
with its history of booms and busts [4], is currently in its worst economic standing since 1990s. The
recent drop in oil prices in the global market has directly affected the energy sectors and highly
influenced different industries. Despite the increasing global oil demand [5], Canadian oil has been
trading at a discounted value to compete with other conventional oil producers in the market [6, 7].

As a result, there is a need to thoroughly investigate the current and future feasibility of oil sands
production and transportation not only in Canada but also around the world.
There is a high level of uncertainty and volatility involved in energy markets [11, 12], the interactions
of which with energy price and emissions regulations are significant. To address these uncertainties
and investigate their impacts on the role of oil sands, a global dynamic energy market is proposed.
This model aims at studying the behavior of different energy sources (including oil sands) in
competition with each other in the planning horizon. In this model, uncertain parameters (i.e., energy
demand, regional prices, regulations, and innovations) are forecasted and inputted into the model and
the behavior of oil sands industry (i.e., in terms of production level) in competition with alternative
energy sources (i.e., conventional fossil fuels, renewables, etc.) is determined. To develop this model,
several tools and techniques are applied, the combination of which has not been thoroughly considered
in the literature.

Ocean Township, New Jersey
My home town is Ocean Township, New Jersey. It is located in eastern central Monmouth County. It
is 11.1 square miles. It is made up of several different subsections named Wayside, Wanamassa,
Colonial Terrace, West Allenhurst, West Deal, Oakhurst, Shadowlawn Manor, Elberon Park and
Wayside. Within these communities it has a population of over 27,000 residents. Ocean Township
today is a suburban community. Although it has the name Ocean, it no longer borders the Atlantic but
it still within a mile of the beach. Before explores from various European nations came to the New
Americas it was occupied by Native Americans named the Lenape Indians which means the people

The French and Indian war had Colonies drained of resources, money and even men. As a result of
that war, the British Empire heavily taxed the people. However, the Colonies they had no input on the
taxes, no taxation without representation . That resulted in the rise of the clash of British Rule versus
the new colony rule which brought about the American Revolution. New Jersey was a major
contribution towards the war for numerous reasons. While the British controlled the Sandy Hook
military post, many battles and scrimishes had been fought here on New Jersey soil including Ocean
Township. I saw a reoccurring tale of Colonial residents building ships in Deal Lake while battling the
British. During this time actually up the road from where I had grown up, was the cove they refer to as
where the ship building was done. The story goes that as a ship was being crafted with purpose of
intercepting British Supply ships entering the Sandy Hook areas. As the ship was being made British
Troops had received a tip by a local Loyalist whom told them of the location. While they ship makers
heard they have been spotted they quickly acted, and began to sink the ship before the British arrived.
It was then when they attacked the British and resurfacing the boat and destroying the British ship,

Paper Towel Research Paper
Paper towels were invented by a school teacher in 1907. She felt the germs were being spread by the
students who dried their hands on the same cloth towel. At the same time Arthur Scott heard about it
and his company. Scott paper company accidentally made toilet paper too thick. When Arthur Scott
heard about the story, he thought of making more thick toilet paper rolls and introduce them as Sani
towels. And they were to be used in the kitchen to clean up messes.
Currently paper towels are used for lots of different things. Some examples are drying hands, wiping
tables or desks, cleaning the windows, cleaning the bathrooms etc.
Each year we use 13 billion pounds of tissue paper and towels. Most of it is not recycled and goes into
the landfills.

Abortion Social Issue
Abortion has always been a social issue in societies around the world. The book talks about how
people in the 12th century allowed abortions, however, in Greece and Rome the husband could force
his wife to have one. On the other hand if the wife had gone behind the husband s back, he then had
the right to punish or divorce her. It s not until the teachings of the christian church that getting an
abortion became known as a sin. In today s world women over the world practice abortions, weather it
be in a more advanced and rich country or a not as developed country. The first anti abortion activists
in the United States were in the 1800s, most were physicians or trained in the medical field. This lead
to an ignorant superstition that abortion at any stage was wrong and they had wanted laws against it.
The group had started a campaign after the Civil War. In the late 1800 s the anti abortion movement
had gotten many churches to join them. By 1900 unless it was to save a mother s life all abortions and

other guys. Elle, while holding a basket of muffins asks to join their study group and mentions the
snacks she brought. Vivian immediately says no and gives Warner a nasty glare. The other girl agrees
with Vivian. Warner attempts to get the rest of the group to let Elle join, but he is quickly kicked by
Vivian under the table. Elle is trying to use an ingratiation tactic, in order to get the study group to
comply with her request to join. Compliance is when an individual seeks a specific behavior or action
through a request. There are different tactics an individual may use in order to receive compliance.
One tactic is the aforementioned ingratiation. Ingratiation is when an individual tries to make another
individual or group like him/her, so that the individual or group will comply with his/her request.
Individuals trying to get the other or others to comply may give him/her/them complements, try to
make him/her/them feel good, drop names. The ingratiation tactic is not likely to work if it is obvious
that the individual is trying to do this (Hogg and Vaughn, 2014, p. 210). Ingratiation is commonly
depicted as being negative. Liden and Mitchell argue that it can be positive and serve the general
purpose of getting others to like the individual. It typical for

Facebook, Inc: The Initial Public Offering Introduction Facebook, which was founded by Mark

world more open and connected. Within a few years, Facebook attracted millions of new users, from 1
million Monthly Active Users to 845 millions Monthly Active Users. Though competing with global
and regional corporations in the industry, Facebook kept growing rapidly. With the high expectation of
investors, Facebook finally decided to go public. The Red Herring of Facebook stated that its goal was
to connect all two billion global Internet users. Basing on our analysis of Facebook s IPO, we would

However, by mid May it had fallen to $12.17 with a loss of 39 percent post IPO. Zynga, the online
gaming company, went public in December 2011 and issued 100 million shares at $10/share, which
was at the ceiling of the price talk of $8.50 to $10.00. Zynga s share price fell by 5 percent on the first
day of trading and by mid May was still 14.4 percent below the IPO price. Intrinsic value refers to the
value of a company, stock, currency or product determined through fundamental analysis without
reference to its market value. It is ordinarily calculated by summing the discounted future income
generated by the asset to obtain the present value. In this case, Facebook s intrinsic value is its
estimate value/share from Discounted Cash Flow analysis. As it is showed in Exhibit 3, Facebook s
estimated value/share is $32.44 using Discounted Cash Flow analysis. The price from the price talk is
$38, which was raised from around $28 to $35 to $34 to $38 per share because of the overwhelming
demand from investors. And the price talk is 17% higher than the intrinsic value. Based on our one
way sensitivity analysis of seven variables as it is showed in Exhibit 4, which are revenue growth rate,
terminal growth rate, pre tax operating margin, increase in Capex, increase in NWC, cost of capital
and marginal tax rate, we conclude that cost of capital and pre tax operating margin are the two most
sensitive variables from our calculation of the slope rate R. And our two way

Canoeing In Canad A Brief Textual Analysis
I know from experience the fear and terror that struck my eyes when canoeing down a lake in Canada.
A few years ago back in 2014 I went camping in Canada, but this is not just any sort of camping trip,
with a nice rustic log cabin fitted with WiFi to make your camping experience more pleasurable .
No,no,no, this was REAL camping. Miles and miles away from any sort of any human civilization
with no more supplies than what you bring on your back. This was a canoeing backpacking trip
meaning my family and I rented a few vessels (canoes) and brought all our supplies on our backs to be
carried and shipped the entirety of the trip. Did I mention that the distance of this trip was close to
seventy miles?
I first arrived in Canada excited to be put into pure nature and experience the first real camping trip.
But when I arrived at the outfitters who were driving us into forest I began to worry. We turned off the
main road onto a narrow dirt road barely marked as if it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At one point we decided to stop at a campsite for the night and set up camp. We drank most of the
water packed and we needed more to cook dinner so me and my dad had to take a canoe to the middle
of the lake to filter some more water (if we filtered the water on the shore our water filter would have
got clogged with a bunch of scum). It was a pretty windy day this day and normally I wouldn t think
too much of it, and I didn t. So we got to the middle of the lake and filtered the water that we had
needed and were going to row back and we had started to paddle back, or we at least tried. Little did I
know what such mild winds can do to affect the current of the water. We rowed as hard and as fast as
we would yet were barely moving, the thought of being blown away was not a happy thought. I dug
down deep and gave the rowing everything I had. We slowly began making progress inching towards
back to the island we were staying on. Finally, we were

On the 2nd September 1945, Japan formally surrendered to the Allied nations, indicating the cessation
of nearly 4 years of the Pacific War. The American representative MacArthur spoke of a better world
emerging out of the carnage of the past , and therefore the Occupation began. Despite the USA s and
minor allies conflicting aims for occupation, between 1945 and 1951, they set out to garrison a peace
settlement within Japan, spearheaded by MacArthur and his 3 key aims of demilitarisation,
disarmament and democratization. These objectives were achieved, with the allies remaking Japan
economically, politically, militarily and socially. However by 1950, MacArthur s policies were

Shortly before, SCAP purged candidates on their militarist lists, resulting in 93% members of the
Progressive party being removed. SCAP ended up appointing their own Prime Minister, Shigeru,
however he resigned in 1947 and was replaced by Japan s first socialist PM. This lasted till 1949,
when the liberals gained a majority. Democratisation, implemented during the initial stages of the
Occupation of Japan, was attained successfully. Macarthur had effectively reformed the nations
Political, economical and social sectors. However, this would soon be reviewed as the Cold War
emerged.
The rise of Communism and the Cold war saw MacArthur and America review the 3 key objectives
within Japan, despite minor allies aversions. This undermined the aims initial success and resulted in
Japan being identified as an ally. In 1950, with the beginning of the Korean War, America wanted to
make the Pacific region an American Lake so as to cease the spread of communism. They were fearful
of the Sino Soviet alliance as the Soviet Union had become a nuclear power and China had turned
communist. Thus, SCAP banned the Japanese communist party and removed communists from the
media and industries. Disarmament and demilitarisation ended in 1950 with the formation of the
National Police reserve. America enlisted Japan into its agreement to contain communism and in
return, Japan allowed America troops to reside in its country and use

The exact definition of Near Field Communication (NFC) is a set of communication protocols that
enable two electronic devices, one of which is usually a portable device such as a smartphone, to
establish communication by bringing them within 2in of each other. For example, if I have an iPhone

Its been brought up that NFC tags can assist medical professionals with important information about a
certain patient. Patients can have tags with their medical history, treatments they have gone through,
and even any future medicines or treatments they can take. Recently on the news a mother explained
how the hospital gave their newborn baby to another who had also just given birth to a newborn. The
confusion started with a nurse going into the wrong room and reading off the wrong tag number that is
placed on the newborns bracelet and ankle, of which a mother and their second person also receive a
tag. In todays world everything is so advanced that such NFC tags would not only help hospitals alike
but also prevent situations like these from happening, especially with such fragile situations. Not just
mothers can benefit from this, but all clinic and hospital patients

Short Speech On Diwali
Diwali (Lakshmi Puja) 2018 Date: Significance, Puja Shubh Muhurat Time Vidhi to Celebrate Diwali
(Lakshmi Puja)
Introduction
Diwali is a most important and famous Indian festival. Diwali is known by other names as well such
as Deepawali and Deepali. Deepawali or Diwali is a combination of two words Deepa or diwa means
earthen lamp and wali means rows so Diwali means rows of lamps. We lit these lamps on Diwali in
our houses and places around our house. People eagerly wait for this festival the entire year. People
start cleaning their houses much in advance, buy gifts and new dresses for themselves and the loved
ones. Kids love to celebrate this festival as they get to burn lot of crackers and eat a lot of sweets. It
brings charm into our lives. Diwali is not only celebrated in India also in other countries such as
Malaysia, Nepal, Mauritius, and Sri Lanka etc.
Significance of the festival
Though we connect Diwali as the time when Lord Ram along with Sita and Lakshman came back to
Ayodhya after an exile of 14 years. But Diwali holds a lot of significance for people of many religions.
Let us find it out:
It is said that Diwali was the day when Lakshmi chose Shri Vishnu to be her husband and they got
married. So this is the reason why Lakshmi is worshipped on the day of Diwali.
In Sikhism, Diwali is called as Bandi Chhor Diwas because is said that Guru Har Gobind freed
himself along with some Hindu rulers from the incarceration of Jahangir the Mughal Ruler. He then
reached in Amritsar s Golden Temple. Since then, every year on Diwali the golden temple is all lit up
and firecrackers are burnt.
For people of Jain sect, this day is very important as Mahavira attained Nirvana on this day. It is said
that the darkness was being illuminated by the many gods present there.
In West Bengal, people worship Goddess Kali during the Diwali. However this is not an old practice
and came into being in the eighteenth century by the King of Navadvipa Raja Krishnachandra.
This day also marks the start of new financial year for many businessmen. They worship Goddess
Lakshmi and start the New Year with the prayers of prosperity and progress. Some people buy new
clothes and gifts for their employees. Homes and shops

  • 2. Pretty in Pink Essay Pretty in Pink – Summary Pretty in Pink is essentially a love story about a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, the rich high school hunk who has his eye on her, and the peer pressure that threatens their budding romance. Molly Ringwald plays the character of Andie Walsh, an unpopular poor girl living in the shabbier side of town. Andrew McCarthy portrays the role of Blane McDonnagh, a wealthy heartthrob who asks her out to the prom. As their romance evolves, both characters struggle with increasing pressure from their peers whom are unsupportive of the relationship mostly because of the difference in social class. This, however, doesn t necessarily hold true for two of the characters whose objections appear to derive from other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a pretty classic high school fight with teachers running out of their classrooms to intervene. I don t think this scene does have a big modeling effect because unfortunately the kind of violence nowadays has escalated to a whole different dimension. Long gone are the days where two kids fought it out one on one with only their hands as weapons. Gangs, knives, bats, guns, or some other kind of weapon play center stage in most of the altercations today. There is a level of underlying aggression in this movie, almost like a pressure cooker slowly building until someone blows. Steff as the bad guy is aggressive in nature, verbally harassing anyone he deems below him or in Andie s case, anyone who has the gall to say no to him. He is really setting the stage for Duckie s (good guy) moment of aggression, when exasperated and fed up with the entire situation, he physically attacks Steff. I think Duckie has just about had it, and although most blows are obviously in defense of Andie, I think he snuck in a couple for himself (unpopular teen) too! I would say the justification for this moment of violence comes from the fact that this is probably years in the making. These teens are seniors in high school, and I m sure anyone would blow their lid after what was most certainly fours years of bullying. When Duckie glares Steff down in the hallway, he seems angry but also apprehensive of acting upon his feelings until a cocky ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Englewood Board Of Education Meeting The Englewood Board of Education meeting took place at the Grieco Elementary School in Englewood, NJ. On March 17, 2016 and began promptly at 6:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria. The board is made up of nine board members all sitting at a long table with the President of the board, Mr. Devry Pazant who sat at the center of the table beside the newly appointed Superintendent, Mr. Robert Kravitz. I think it is important to point out a little background information on the Englewood School Board. I have attended several of the school board meetings over the past three years and have witnessed a lot of bitterness and dissatisfaction among the board members and attendees. It stems from a history of inequities in the school system and a separation of high school and an Academy program that appears to receive a large operating budget and administrative support on the same campus. With that said there are members on the board who have children in the Academy program who have a vested interest in the success of the program over what is best for all the students who attend the high school or the program. The Board President called the meeting to order, and the board secretary did the roll call. The agenda was comprised of various reports and the secretary would go though each agenda item, beginning with the board secretary s report, finance, personnel, listing of approvals for salaries that included names of staff/faculty, retirements, leave of absences, bills, travel, field trips, etc. ... The two movies seem very different, from the calm narration of the historical fiction movie Atonement and the wild extreme imagery that the narrators from Big Fish, a fantasy drama film, expelled to the audience. Yet the narrators from these two movies are the aspects that make these films similar. The film Atonement at first seemed like it had four different narrators, Briony Tallis as a child, Briony Tallis as a young adult, Cecilia Tallis and Robbie. • 14. Characteristics Of Revolutionary In The Revolution Of The... The American Revolution was, in fact, revolutionary. Revolutionary means to work against. So, in this case, there were many instances which made the American Revolution revolutionary. For example, Benjamin Franklin wrote the quote, Join or Die, in 1754. This quote was intended to, urge the Thirteen colonies to unite behind England in its struggle against the French and Native American forces during the French and Indian war. This means that he was allies with the British. So, him and the British were working together to work against the French. But, unfortunately that alliance did not last very long because in 1775 the Battle of Bunker Hill was fought between the British and the Americans. While the British ended up being victors of the battle, the only thing they gained was a confidence boost. Also, in 1775 76 Thomas Paine wrote Common Sense to advocate independence from Great Britain to people in the Thirteen colonies. While you might think the French and Indian war was fought between the French and the Indians it was actually fought between the French and the British while the Indians were divided between the two. During the American Revolution there were two groups of people. Loyalists and Patriots. Loyalists were the people who stood by the British during the American Revolution. Our findings indicated that a demand for such a service exists and that the potential players in the vicinity indeed demand for a real, proper, high quality field, and an appealing price. We initially had 3 locations planned in our mind to choose for our pitch: Muscat, Batinah, and AL Sharqyiah. Muscat has an abundance of football fields and there was little demand from the players to play in addition to the huge traffic in it. Al Sharqyiah, on the other hand, very little demand in the region plus very high costs into creating the pitch. However, in Al Suwayq we found out that demand for this service indeed exists and the market was well prepared. We interviewed the competitors in the market and they told us that there is so much demand that reservations need to be made at least 2 days prior the day that they play. Our target market is the male youth in Al Suwayq. The total population is around 94,000 where 46,000 of them are male. It has been a popular practice to threaten to move an NFL team to Los Angles ever since they lost their team in 1994. Since 1994, there have been twenty proposals by NFL teams threatening to move in order to get stadiums publically financed (Wickersham, Natta, 2016). The St. Louis Rams were no different, they wanted to get as much money as possible from St. Louis even though the city had been going through tough economical times (Wickersham, Natta, 2016). Rams owner Stan Kroenke had a clause built into his contract with the city that said if the Rams stadium ever fell below the top tier of stadiums in the NFL they would get the public support of building a new stadium (Wickersham, Natta, 2016). If people have to go through those processes to get a puppy or even a child then why are we not requiring the biological families to do the same thing? Despite the trauma children often face before they are finally adopted, they are five times less likely to be abused than children reared by their biological parents. (Lafollette 446). Moving on to the facial expression, we find that all the human headed figures contain large eyebrows, large eyes that are deeply undercut, an elongated nose, conventionalized ears, and highly conventionalized lips which appear as a simple slit. The title Freakonomics means a study of economics based on the principles of incentives. The title is related to the book since he emphasizes how incentives drive and affect people s actions. As an example of incentive, Levitt introduces a daycare study in which a daycare center fines $3 for parents who comes late. The study finds out that the number of parents coming late increased as they put a $3 of fine. He explains that the incentive of $3 was too small, and the fine made the parents to not feel the moral guilt for showing up late, resulting in more parents being late. Levitt next examines the incentives that cause people to cheat. The first example of cheating is a story of teachers cheating in Chicago public schools. To avoid the risk of getting fired or getting penalty by the government for low test scores, many teachers chose to cheat and inflate their students scores. They cheated by allowing the students to have more time during test, giving away answers, and even by changing students answers by themselves. In this case, we can see that the schoolteachers are driven by economic incentives. For them, moral and social incentives are not as strong as economic incentives. Similar cheating can be seen in sumo wrestling. In Japan, sumo wrestling is a very popular sports and the high ranked wrestlers get great honor. Also, among sumo wrestlers, their rank determines their salary, reputation, how they are treated, and even how much he gets to eat and sleep. Because they are so desperate for higher rank, the incentive for cheating is very powerful. In the crucial matches that determines sumo wrestler s ranking, they cheat by ... • 37. Persuasive Essay On Animal Testing Animal experimentation causes tremendous harm and suffering to otherwise innocent animals. The cruelty level on testing ranges from food and water deprivation, to cosmetic purposes, to burning and chemical exposures, to injections of diseases they would have otherwise never contracted on their own, to purposeful death of an animal or groups of animals to see how it would take place or how much an animal can withstand before termination (Humane Society International). The Silver Spring Monkeys is known as the case that launched PETA. A member of PETA went undercover in a lab that tested on 17 monkeys living in tiny wire cages that were caked with years of feces that had accumulated (PETA). These monkeys were subjected to surgeries where their spinal nerves were severed, rendering one or more of their limbs useless (PETA). Through the use of shock, food and water deprivation, and other methods, the monkeys were forced to try to regain the use of their limb(s) or go without food. The trauma of the monkeys imprisonment was so traumatizing they ripped away their own flesh and had lost most of their fingers from getting them caught in tiny wire cage bars. (PETA). Experimenters also neglected to feed the 17 monkeys and would often force them to dig beneath their feces to try to locate food. The monkeys would be moved from cage to experimental tables and rooms only with a choking rod placed around their neck. This case was the first Supreme Court victory for animals used in ... • 40. The History of African Americans in Film Essay Minstrel shows were developed in the 1840 s and reached its peak after the Civil War. They managed to remain popular into the early 1900s. The Minstrel shows were shows in which white performers would paint their faces black and act the role of an African American. This was called black facing. The minstrel show evolved from two types of entertainment popular in America before 1830: the impersonation of blacks given by white actors between acts of plays or during circuses, and the performances of black musicians who sang, with banjo accompaniment, in city streets. The father of American minstrelsy was Thomas Dartmouth Daddy Rice, who between 1828 and 1831 developed a song and dance routine in which he impersonated an old, crippled ... Though many of these shows claimed that these were true African American songs that had been brought back by people who had observed plantation slaves, this wasn?t necessarily true. For example one of the more common songs such as ?Jim Crow?by Thomas Rice was simply inspired by a crippled African American that Rice had seen dancing and singing a song with the chorus of ?Wheel about, an turn about, an do jis so, Eb ry time I wheel about, I jump Jim Crow.? Many people were lead to believe that this was how every African American sang and danced and failed to realize that this was simply the way one man did it. Actual African American actors were rare at the time. There were only a few African Americans that actually appeared on stage and those who did only had minor roles such as servants or shoe shiners. This was mainly because the world was used to African Americans being slaves doing jobs such as these and people weren?t ready to accept African Americans as equals yet.
