The Efficacy Of Massage Therapy On Preterm Infants
The Efficacy of Massage Therapy on Preterm Infants Taryn L. Metz Winona State University The
Efficacy of Massage Therapy on Premature Infants According to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (2013) 500,000 infants are affected by preterm births each year. A preterm infant is born
prior to 37 weeks of their gestational age (Smith, 2012) and can be classified as very premature (less
than 32 weeks gestation), premature (born between 32 and 34 weeks gestation) or late premature (born
between 34 and 37 weeks gestation) (Durham Chapman, 2010). Despite the widespread advances in
hospital policies and extensive research, the preterm birthrate continues to rise (Witt et al., 2014).
Between 1990 and 2010 the number ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My dream is to not only promote healing for such vulnerable patients, but also inspire hope in the
families of these premature infants. I am continuously striving to become the best nurse and patient
advocate that I can be, by implementing more than just conventional treatment within each of my
patient s plan of care. My interest in the use of alternative therapies led me to develop the following
question: In hospitalized preterm infants, does the use of massage therapy promote overall adaptation
and development? Massage therapy is defined as, a systematic touch by human hands, which
stimulates the tactile sense of the infant and which has been documented for several decades to have a
positive effect on both full term and preterm infants (Abdallah et al., 2013, p. 663). The goal of this
paper is to describe the transition from intrauterine to extrauterine life and identify normal adaptation
for the newborn and how these adaptations can affect a preterm infants development, identify different
nonpharmacological interventions, including massage therapy and determine whether these techniques
are effective in promoting adaptation and development of the preterm infant and if so, how do these
therapies impact the preterm infant s overall development. Throughout the human experience, one of
the most complex adaptations is the transition from intrauterine to

Emotional Intelligence And The Nurse Essay
Nurses are said to do the unthinkable and touch the untouchable (Canfield, Hansen, Mitchell Autio,
Thieman, 2001). Why nurses can seem to do this remains a mystery yet investigated in peer reviewed
literature. Professional nurses hold values to a high standard while performing their tasks. This is done
by individuals who are astute in the language that may not always be expressed with words, the
language of emotion. It is the nurse holding the hand of the troubled and simply listening to their need
that places them in field that is spiritually unique (O Brien, 2014). The nurse offers the capacity to
identify another s emotions and encouraging the person, all the while continuing to manage the feeling
and interactions with another (Beauvais, 2012). This ability is known as emotional intelligence and
offers the nurse a capacity to assume successful leadership positions. Emotionally intelligent skill
building for leadership is now a required competency and encompasses spiritually rich aspects of both
nursing and leadership. This paper will discuss useful aspects of emotional intelligence in spiritually
rich nursing leadership.
Emotional Intelligence There are many definitions of emotional intelligence. Daniel Goleman
discussed this theory in his 1995 book titled, Emotional Intelligence. From the ideas of Mr. Goleman,
nurses may find a more useful definition for this profession than from the previous notions of Salovey
Mayer (1990) who simplified emotional

New Age Corporate Houses Adopt
The paradigms through which businesses think and act smarter controls the inherent need to
continuously ideate and innovate in their technology, where the services they provide is not only more
efficient but more responsive to business and community needs. Mostly the underlying key to
realizing that vision is how structurally their offerings drive change, and transform the way they work.
The entities of technology that new age corporate houses adopt is driven by the demands of the digital
economy, making more effective spillovers in business operandi and maintaining the growth and
adoption of services lean in their expenditures and fast in their turnovers. The orchestration, in such
business philosophies, is of the pressing intent to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Looking to Cloud Computing, most businesses understand the need for stiffer competitive advantage
and the market transitions that have affected margins considerably. The definition of Cloud, as the
world has largely adopted is the US Government s National Institute of Standards and Technology
(NIST) Definition of Cloud Computing, which states Cloud computing is a model for enabling
ubiquitous, convenient, on demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing
resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned
and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. (Reference:
http://www.nist.gov/itl/cloud/) Now with the same ubiquity that is mentioned as above, there is this
rampant need for adopting virtualization and separating software from hardware because the recent
catalysts of changing culture in mobility and the flexible, scalable nature of enterprise needs presents
before it the option of procuring what it needs, when it needs. Then when the user found the need to
expand, it also found the need to divert and so re allocation of resources and moving one s safety
critical data beyond its four walls and a lot of the attention slowly shifted from converting their fixed

Summary Of Daniel s Story
Daniel s Story Daniel s story is about a boy named Daniel and his family. The book takes place when
HItler was dictator and took Jews to concentration camps where they died and worked for the S.S
guards. The beginning of the book is told on a train on the way to Auschwitz that s a concentration
camp for the Jews through a photograph album, he tells what each picture means and what happened
in each picture. They went without being captured first but guards invaded their hometown and
captured all Jews along with their personal belongings and any money they had. The guards especially
wanted to take their radios, cameras, electronic appliances and other items that could be worth a lot for
the guards. Once they were captured they are sent to Lodz ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Daniel and his father had to go without seeing his mother or sister for a while, but that changed when
Daniel and his father were forced to march back and forth all the way throughout the camp carrying
heavy supplies of water on their shoulders. Erika was in the band that played and marched along with
them, once they saw her they tried the best they could to see her because the rules were very strict, if
someone stumbled or fallen they were shot instantly. Once Daniel got to speak to Erika they were
informed their mother had died. The burden on Daniel s father s shoulders where big, he started
getting sick and weak and lost himself in the act of grieving but soon realized he had to stay strong for
his family. Soon after the Americans came and rescued the Jews and any others from the concentration
camps and were given food, clothing, and a little bit of money to help them get to where they were
going. So in this story there are a whole lot of historically accurate events, locations, themes, and
more. Take Lodz ghetto in Poland for example. That s where one of the largest Jewish communities
were. The biggest being Warsaw. That was the first stop for their family. Auschwitz was one of the
biggest concentration camps in the world it

Examination of the Relationships Between Birth Weight and...
Purpose of Study
The primary goal of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the full birth weight
distribution and prevalence of specific developmental disabilities and related measures of health and
the use of special education services by US children. The researchers in this study collected and used
data from the 1997 2005 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) for this research analysis. The
NHIS is conducted annually and is a multistage probability sample survey of the US civilian, non
institutionalized population. Basic demographic and health information was collected during an in
person interview. The Sample Child Core questionnaire obtained information on the health of one
randomly selected child is provided by a knowledgeable adult (usually a parent or other legal
guardian). The data that is collected from this questionnaire represented the primary source for the
researchers analysis. The researchers used a sample of 87,578 children. More than 50% of children
were white and were from families with a household income above the federal poverty level and
maternal education beyond high school. Compared with children with birth weights of 3,500 3,999g,
children in all birth weight categories less than 3,000g were more likely to have one or more
developmental disabilities (3.4% 1.2% vs 1.1%). Children in all birth weight categories less than
2,500g were more likely to have three or more DDs (2.6% 6.5% vs 1.2%). In evaluating specific

Birth Defect Essay
Raising a child with a birth defect
A birth defect is a physical or mental malformation present at birth. Some birth defects are visible
such as leprosy, and some are eternal such as abnormal body function and divergent blood cells.
Additionally, some birth deficiencies are genetic, and others transpire when external factors affect a
child maturation in the womb. For instance, a child whose mother smoked during pregnancy is
vulnerable and likely to have a heart defect at birth.
A recent study contends that, in many occurrences, the birth of a child brings a sense of happiness to
parents, for this reason, many parents muses about getting a healthy child, realistically, there is
nothing wrong with wanting to have a healthy child with all his/her organ functioning customary.
Nonetheless, what should happen if a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a parent or a guardian, you should admit the feeling of surprise, anger, and denial that devour you.
It is natural and very acceptable to feel emotionally disturbed but do not let it weigh you down, talk to

Seek specialized care. Early intervention is pivotal in evaluating your child s need and seeking
treatment for him/her. Getting nutrimental advice, distinguish which occupational therapy may suit
your child need and seek suitable professionals to coordinate with in your endeavor to make your kid
better.
Commemorate your child. A child with a congenital disability is prone to stigmatization, mainly in a
society that views a child weakness as a curse or worse, Insulate your child from the surrounding
discrimination.Raising a child with a birth defect should not be draining job to any parent or guardian.
Remember to let yourself enjoy your child the same way you could have if she/he was born with no

How Did Stephen Crane Fight In The Red Badge Of Courage
During the novel The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane, Henry fights alongside his comrades
in the first battle that he had participated in, yet he flees in the second one he participates in. What
caused him to react this way? His reasons for his actions are quite cowardly and dishonorable but
justified nonetheless. Here they come, here they come! yelled one of the soldiers. The first battle
started when Henry shot the first shot. He works the crowd like the soldier he is, feeling like beast,
shooting his rifle, shot after shot after shot. He is confident and strong. He is a part of this regiment
and together they push forward, they helt em back . In the second battle, from his point of view, it

Texas is a wonderful state where there is various cultures, traditions, ethnic groups, and religions such
as the Germans, Irish, Polish, and more. Texas is made up of various ethnic groups that are all special

five themes are mission, manifest destiny, industrialization, imperialism, and race. Racism has been an
issue throughout American history. Only in recent years has the problem been resolved, but even now
there is still some issues. Some private groups are still against some races. Even though slavery was

He delivered the famous I Have a Dream speech in which he expanded American values to include the
vision of a color blind society, and established his reputation as one of the greatest orators in American
history. He was then assassinated on April 4, 1968 in which is now a holiday to where he will always

Restoration Act of 1987 prohibited segregation and discrimination in employment and other areas.
The racism issues during this period of time, caused lots of hate and crime. Fortunately during this
period of time, slavery had already been abolished but it took many years to completely have equal
rights for all races. Organizations have formed for anti racist and civil rights activism such as the
NAACP, National Association of the Advancement of Colored People, and other groups as well. Since
America has the right of freedom of speech, groups that are racist are allowed but if they involve any
violence they will be prosecuted for their actions. Throughout the years we have had more African

Cremation jewelry isn t exactly a hot topic for dinner conversation. Humans find it unpleasant to even

Cremation is a viable option these days, as it does not impose such a financial burden upon survivors.
But, it does bring up the question of what to do with the ashes.

Systems of governance and authority can have a profound influence on the development of human
societies. All types of governments from local politics to federal bureaucracies to huge empires
maintain their authority through specific techniques, including fostering a shared identity

that authority through violent and nonviolent revolution can have significant consequences, including

Sign For My Father Who Stressed The Bunt Summary
In David Bottoms Sign for My Father, Who Stressed the Bunt, the speaker uses flexible diction and
metaphor to illuminate the sacrifice his father made for him. He continues the metaphor into the
present to show that he has finally understood this sacrifice. First the speaker emphasizes the
importance of baseball, highlighting the time and sacrifice his father made for him, an unappreciative
son. Towards the end of the poem the speaker shows that he has realized his mistake, and creates a
metaphor that describes their relationship.
Through his use of diction, the speaker highlights the importance of baseball and shows the
painstaking care his father puts into teaching him about it. He describes the field on which he
practiced with his father as a rough diamond. Although this description is part of everyday baseball
vocabulary, rough diamond call to mind the phrase diamond in the rough. Thus, this flexible diction
adds a certain unnoticed value to both his father and the field. The speaker also bestows a certain
importance on baseball with a phrase full of double meaning: the whole tiresome pitch. While the
speaker is referring to his father s explanation of baseball basics, there is a clear secondary meaning
that refers to a physical pitch in baseball. Once again the speaker connects baseball to something
greater than itself through his diction ‒this time it is a father s advice to his son. By repeatedly ...

wanted to change, she started learning how to be an ethical person. Lastly, Eleanor started to show a

Marthy Rathbun (Going Clear). In this documentary, these former scientologists were interviewed
about their personal experiences, where they revealed information about what actually happened
behind the doors of the Church. The documentary was based on Lawrence Wright s book, Going
Clear: Scientology, Hollywood and the Prison of Belief and was a compilation of the opinions of
several former scientologists about the true colors of Scientology and Hubbard s history (Going
Clear). Additionally, these figures shared their beliefs and opinions about Scientology. In this
documentary, there are several effective persuasion techniques which all attempt to persuade the
audience against Scientology. In my paper, I will be discussing these persuasion techniques and
showing the different ways each former scientologist impacts the audience through their stories. One
of the most prominent figures in this documentary was Paul Haggis. Paul is a writer and filmmaker
whose former membership with the Church gives him distinct credibility (Science of Persuasion
YouTube Video). His experiences grab the audience s attention, seeing as he was a scientologist for
three years. Paul spoke out about his experiences with Scientology, calling it a cult and mentioning
many disturbing aspects about the church

Workaholic Deviance Examples
A perfect comedy show that I chose is called Workaholics, it s based off three main characters named
Blake Anderson, Adam DeVine, and Anders Holm. The characters met in college and after dropping
out they decided to move in together and continued to act as if they are still in college, such as doing
pranks, binge drinking and throwing parties at their house. From a functionalist perspective, their
harmonious relationship that share the same norms would be an example of social cohesion.
Additionally, they work in a small cubicle office at a telemarketing place, but with their disruptive
behavior they cause a lot of trouble with their coworkers and boss. The TV show demonstrates the
three adults as immature and irrational which is a good example ... Show more content on

In particular, for the second example I used before has a clear demonstration of a modern response to
deviance. By the time the group had a violent conflict with each other because of substance abuse the
boss decided to interfere and punish them by sending them into a rehabilitation program. In the hope
that sending them into the program, it will eventually change their old addictive behavior that is
considered deviant to a more normative behavior after completing the

Overview Of Chemistry
Everyday the world of Chemistry is evolving, not only to assist us in understanding the functions of
the world around us, but also to assist in improving it. Through their immense research regarding
health care, chemists at the University of Oxford have fabricated a new, innovative method to 3D print
laboratory produced cells to create living structures. Such an unprecedented approach to such an issue
possesses the capability to permanently revolutionize regenerative medicine, allowing the creation of
complex tissues and cartilage that could significantly support, mend or augment diseased or no longer
functional parts of the body. Through this discovery, our understanding of the human body alongside
its healing process would not only be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order for this theory to succeed, the cells were confined within protective nanolitre droplets
wrapped in a lipid coating that could be constructed, in a layer by layer manner, into living structures.
Using this process, manufacturing printed tissues in this way can increase the survival rate of the
individual cells, enabling the team to ameliorate modern strategies through assembling each tissue one
drop at a time to a more advantageous resolution. In order to be utilized properly, it is requisite for the
artificial tissues to possess the ability to imitate the functions and behaviors of the human body. The
method allows the production of patterned cellular constructs, which, once completely developed,
copy or possibly enhance natural tissues. Dr Alexander Graham, lead author and 3D Bioprinting
Scientist at OxSyBio proclaimed, We were aiming to fabricate three dimensional living tissues that
could display the basic behaviours and physiology found in natural organisms. To date, there are
limited examples of printed tissues, which have the complex cellular architecture of native tissues.
Hence, we focused on designing a high resolution cell printing platform, from relatively inexpensive
components, that could be used to reproducibly produce artificial tissues with appropriate complexity
from a range of cells including stem cells. The researchers hope and strongly believe that, with further
development, the materials could have an immense impact on

Hippocampus Memory Annotated Bibliography

Remembering episodes: a selective role for the hippocampus during retrieval.
Nature Neuroscience, Volume 3, pg 1149 1152.
Some researchers hypothesize that the hippocampus is involved in some types of memory processes
but not others. This particular study measured brain activity using fMRI during two types of memory
tasks: remember (episodic memory) and know (familiarity). A memory was considered episodic if the
person could recall the moment it was learned and familiar if they felt they recognized the word but
could not retrieve the specidic moment it was learned. The a priori (pre selected) region of interest(
ROI) in the hippocampus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among these different processes are encoding, storage, consolidation, and retrieval. This study
hypothesized that the hippocampus plays a different role in each of these. The method of this study is
especially unique because it used temporary chemical inactivation of the hippocampus, which had not
been done before. This temporary inactivation is unique because it lets the researchers selectively
assess the role of the hippocampus during each of the processes discussed above. To test encoding, the
inactivation occurred during learning of a maze task; to test retrieval, inactivation occurred during a
retention task. Results indicate the temporary inactivation of the hippocampus impairs both encoding
and retrieval. To test long term consolidation, rats were trained and then separate groups received
hippocampal treatment for different amounts of time between one and five days. Results showed that
temporary inactivation during this time period disrupts memory for the already learned task. This
study partially supports the result of the study by Eldridge et al. (2000) in that they both show the
hippocampus is necessary for memory retrieval. However, it does not address the retrieval of different
types of memory. This study also supports the idea from Wang et al. (2012) that the hippocampus may
be involved in consolidation and storage of new memories but not necessarily of older

The fashion industry is a utopia, of silk and suede and, shoes and belts. It is a place where flowers
smell of Chanel and Givenchy; and trees bear diamonds and rubies, where extravagant living is a
reality; and thin women walk down the many streets with hot cups of espressos every fraction of a
second. And this industry is not just the fourth largest in the world, but also the most loved! Millions
have found livelihood here. Millions try everyday to find their place. And the options for them are

Another former intern at Alexander McQueen sued the company recently for exploiting her and
making her do art works for embroideries and dyeing fabrics for free. (The Guardian, February 17,
2014)
In reality, the very concept of unpaid internship is faulty. To survive in expensive cities like New York
or Los Angeles and pay out of your own pocket for food, accommodation and transportation while you
work forty hours a week for free is both unrealistic and impractical, unless, of course if you have the
financial backing. But that means that fashion internships are just for the rich as a middle class
household definitely doesn t have the budget for it. So does this imply that only if you have the
money, you get a good internship? A survey by NACE which came in The Wall Street Journal says,
60% of 2012 graduates who worked a paid internship got at least one job offer, while just 37% of
those in unpaid gigs got any offers. That s slightly only slightly better than the offer rate for graduates
who skipped internships entirely, at 36%. Without a job surety, interns are walking aimlessly knocking
on every door to just get in. Interns are not even considered as employees although in most small scale
companies they make up a major part of the working force. What is wrong in the system is that the

China became a communist state in 1949 under the leadership of chairman Mao. This then prevented
the Sino Soviet treaty to be made, Stalin saw an opportunity due to this, America believed China

Irony in Pride and Prejudice
Irony in Pride and Prejudice
Irony forms the alma mater of Jane Austen s novels. Likewise, Pride and Prejudice is steeped in irony
of theme, situation, character, and narration. Austen uses it to establish the contrast between
appearance and reality.
As one examines Pride and Prejudice , one discovers the ironic significance of how pride leads to
prejudice and prejudice invites pride. Importantly, the novel elucidates how both Pride and Prejudice
have their corresponding virtues bound up within them: an intricate relationship that is at once
contradictory yet deep.
This goes in parlance with the critics of Austen who hold that she used irony as a shield to express her
radical ideas. It enables her to expose the ills behind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. Darcy remarks about Elizabeth that: tolerable but not handsome enough to tempt me...
We relish the ironical flavour of this statement much later when we reflect that the woman who was
not handsome enough to dance with was really good enough for him tomarry. He removes Bingley
from Netherfield because he considers it imprudent to forge a marriage alliance with the Bennet
Family, but himself ends up marrying the second Bennet sister. Collins proposes to Elizabeth when her
heart is full of Wickham and Darcy proposes to her exactly at the moment when she hates him most.
Elizabeth tells Mr. Collins that she is not the type to reject the first proposal and accept the second but
does exactly this when Darcy proposes a second time. The departure of the militia from Meryton was
expected to put an end to Lydia s flirtations. Ironically, it brings about her elopement. The Lydia
Wickham episode may seem like an insurmountable barrier between Elizabeth and Darcy, but is
actually instrumental in bringing them together. Lady Catherine, attempting to prevent their marriage
only succeeds in hastening it.
Irony in character is even more prominent than irony of situation. It is ironical that Elizabeth who
prides herself on her perception is quite blinded by her own prejudices and she errs in judging intricate
characters. Wickham appears suave and charming but is

The Importance of Water in Living Organisms
Water has importance inside cells and externally. This may be because it has interesting chemical and
physical properties; it can be found naturally in all three of its states. However its molecules are
bonded together by hydrogen bonds, this raises its melting and boiling points, i.e. its boiling point
would be 120¢ªC rather than 100¢ªC. Also because it contains slightly negatively charged oxygen
atoms and slightly positively charged hydrogen atoms making it polar.
br
br Water has been called a universal solvent because of it polarity. This means it can easily ionise
substances, Many compounds, whether ionic, polar or covalent will dissolve in it, therefore more
reactions take place while in solution with water. Often in organisms ... Show more content on

br Water can also be used for support. As plant cells have cell walls as well as cell membranes, when
the plant cell becomes full of water (due to osmosis) it will not burst but the cell wall exerts a force
equal to the osmotic force (the cell is turgid) and this is important in the support of leaves and also in
the stems of herbaceous plants. In animals like the earthworm support is often provided by the
pressure of the fluid inside them,

Small Scale Tummy Tuck
What is a small scale tummy tuck? Authoritatively called a halfway abdominoplasty, a smaller than
usual tummy tuck just expels undesirable skin and fat from the territory underneath the navel. This
kind of strategy has generously expanded in notoriety. A full tummy tuck, by complexity expels skin
and fat from the whole stomach region. A small scale tummy tuck is a decent choice if there is not a
considerable measure of overabundance skin to expel, and the patient is keen on minimizing a
protruding lower stomach area.
After pregnancy, the lower abs, or rectus abdominus muscles are extended and the laxity may remain,
stressing a lower stomach swell. The smaller than expected tummy tuck is a famous alternative for
ladies trying to come back

Yolanda
In How the Garcia Girls Lost their Accents by Julia Alvarez, It s shown how being engulfed into a
new culture can cause people to struggle with keeping their own culture alive because they are around
so many people that are living the American culture. Even though there are so many different races
and religions in America, we all as Americans know how things work around here, therefore, it can be
tough for a different culture to live out their own ways in such a mixed country. It s impossible to
adjust to a culture without changing and being exposed to cultural discrimination.
At the beginning of the book Yolanda is grown and visiting the dominican. When she goes to see her
family she struggles to understand their spanish. Yolanda grew up speaking spanish and it was her first
language, however; after living in America in a culture that is english speaking for so many years she
has forgotten her own native language. Yolanda is a prime example of how moving to a different
country and being surrounded by a new culture can affect so much about you. Yolanda has been

Some people may believe that is true, however, there is a flaw in that statement. The flaw is that they
don t have to because they do. In America it s shown that immigrants are not well accepted.
Americans say they accept immigrants, but they don t like it when there is someone out there living
their life and not doing it the American way because in their mind somehow it s affecting them. In the
article Beyond Diversity , by Jim Mcdermott, a Nigerian priest tries to bring his culture to California,
but can t do that without someone telling him that they don t want him doing that. I decided to sing a
chorus at the elevation of the sacred species, which is a normal practice at charismatic liturgies in
Nigeria. I got an email asking me to explain why I should sing at [the] consecration.

  • 2. The Efficacy Of Massage Therapy On Preterm Infants The Efficacy of Massage Therapy on Preterm Infants Taryn L. Metz Winona State University The Efficacy of Massage Therapy on Premature Infants According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2013) 500,000 infants are affected by preterm births each year. A preterm infant is born prior to 37 weeks of their gestational age (Smith, 2012) and can be classified as very premature (less than 32 weeks gestation), premature (born between 32 and 34 weeks gestation) or late premature (born between 34 and 37 weeks gestation) (Durham Chapman, 2010). Despite the widespread advances in hospital policies and extensive research, the preterm birthrate continues to rise (Witt et al., 2014). Between 1990 and 2010 the number ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My dream is to not only promote healing for such vulnerable patients, but also inspire hope in the families of these premature infants. I am continuously striving to become the best nurse and patient advocate that I can be, by implementing more than just conventional treatment within each of my patient s plan of care. My interest in the use of alternative therapies led me to develop the following question: In hospitalized preterm infants, does the use of massage therapy promote overall adaptation and development? Massage therapy is defined as, a systematic touch by human hands, which stimulates the tactile sense of the infant and which has been documented for several decades to have a positive effect on both full term and preterm infants (Abdallah et al., 2013, p. 663). The goal of this paper is to describe the transition from intrauterine to extrauterine life and identify normal adaptation for the newborn and how these adaptations can affect a preterm infants development, identify different nonpharmacological interventions, including massage therapy and determine whether these techniques are effective in promoting adaptation and development of the preterm infant and if so, how do these therapies impact the preterm infant s overall development. Throughout the human experience, one of the most complex adaptations is the transition from intrauterine to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Emotional Intelligence And The Nurse Essay Nurses are said to do the unthinkable and touch the untouchable (Canfield, Hansen, Mitchell Autio, Thieman, 2001). Why nurses can seem to do this remains a mystery yet investigated in peer reviewed literature. Professional nurses hold values to a high standard while performing their tasks. This is done by individuals who are astute in the language that may not always be expressed with words, the language of emotion. It is the nurse holding the hand of the troubled and simply listening to their need that places them in field that is spiritually unique (O Brien, 2014). The nurse offers the capacity to identify another s emotions and encouraging the person, all the while continuing to manage the feeling and interactions with another (Beauvais, 2012). This ability is known as emotional intelligence and offers the nurse a capacity to assume successful leadership positions. Emotionally intelligent skill building for leadership is now a required competency and encompasses spiritually rich aspects of both nursing and leadership. This paper will discuss useful aspects of emotional intelligence in spiritually rich nursing leadership. Emotional Intelligence There are many definitions of emotional intelligence. Daniel Goleman discussed this theory in his 1995 book titled, Emotional Intelligence. From the ideas of Mr. Goleman, nurses may find a more useful definition for this profession than from the previous notions of Salovey Mayer (1990) who simplified emotional ... New Age Corporate Houses Adopt The paradigms through which businesses think and act smarter controls the inherent need to continuously ideate and innovate in their technology, where the services they provide is not only more efficient but more responsive to business and community needs. The entities of technology that new age corporate houses adopt is driven by the demands of the digital economy, making more effective spillovers in business operandi and maintaining the growth and adoption of services lean in their expenditures and fast in their turnovers. Looking to Cloud Computing, most businesses understand the need for stiffer competitive advantage and the market transitions that have affected margins considerably. The definition of Cloud, as the world has largely adopted is the US Government s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Definition of Cloud Computing, which states Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. (Reference: http://www.nist.gov/itl/cloud/) Now with the same ubiquity that is mentioned as above, there is this rampant need for adopting virtualization and separating software from hardware because the recent catalysts of changing culture in mobility and the flexible, scalable nature of enterprise needs presents before it the option of procuring what it needs, when it needs. Then when the user found the need to expand, it also found the need to divert and so re allocation of resources and moving one s safety critical data beyond its four walls and a lot of the attention slowly shifted from converting their fixed costs to their variable costs. The beginning of the book is told on a train on the way to Auschwitz that s a concentration camp for the Jews through a photograph album, he tells what each picture means and what happened in each picture. They went without being captured first but guards invaded their hometown and captured all Jews along with their personal belongings and any money they had. Daniel and his father had to go without seeing his mother or sister for a while, but that changed when Daniel and his father were forced to march back and forth all the way throughout the camp carrying heavy supplies of water on their shoulders. Erika was in the band that played and marched along with them, once they saw her they tried the best they could to see her because the rules were very strict, if someone stumbled or fallen they were shot instantly. Once Daniel got to speak to Erika they were informed their mother had died. The burden on Daniel s father s shoulders where big, he started getting sick and weak and lost himself in the act of grieving but soon realized he had to stay strong for his family. Soon after the Americans came and rescued the Jews and any others from the concentration camps and were given food, clothing, and a little bit of money to help them get to where they were going. So in this story there are a whole lot of historically accurate events, locations, themes, and more. Take Lodz ghetto in Poland for example. That s where one of the largest Jewish communities were. All types of governments from local politics to federal bureaucracies to huge empires maintain their authority through specific techniques, including fostering a shared identity (nationalism), developing economic interdependence, and sometimes using overt force. Challenges to that authority through violent and nonviolent revolution can have significant consequences, including the collapse and replacement of whole systems of governance. You have studied multiple forms of governance (including ancient and contemporary empires) and resistance to authority (in both violent and nonviolent revolutions) that occurred in societies within the Americas, India, Southeast Asia, and Africa. In this task, you will examine systems of governance and the reactions of the governed peoples in specific areas of the world. Task: A. Discuss the rise of imperialism or colonialism in one area of the world from India. India came under British colonialism or imperialism via subterfuge from the British and through their desire for expansion and money. It all started with the European trading advantages that Europe enjoyed in India and with unrest of the country with Hindu majority and Muslims. Between 1450 1750, Dutch traders stepped into the Indies whilst British traders took advantage of the weak Mughal Empire and during the Seven Years War emerged victorious over France and became the dominant ... Sign For My Father Who Stressed The Bunt Summary In David Bottoms Sign for My Father, Who Stressed the Bunt, the speaker uses flexible diction and metaphor to illuminate the sacrifice his father made for him. He continues the metaphor into the present to show that he has finally understood this sacrifice. First the speaker emphasizes the importance of baseball, highlighting the time and sacrifice his father made for him, an unappreciative son. Towards the end of the poem the speaker shows that he has realized his mistake, and creates a metaphor that describes their relationship. Through his use of diction, the speaker highlights the importance of baseball and shows the painstaking care his father puts into teaching him about it. He describes the field on which he practiced with his father as a rough diamond. Although this description is part of everyday baseball vocabulary, rough diamond call to mind the phrase diamond in the rough. Thus, this flexible diction adds a certain unnoticed value to both his father and the field. The speaker also bestows a certain importance on baseball with a phrase full of double meaning: the whole tiresome pitch. While the speaker is referring to his father s explanation of baseball basics, there is a clear secondary meaning that refers to a physical pitch in baseball. Once again the speaker connects baseball to something greater than itself through his diction ‒this time it is a father s advice to his son. By repeatedly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to be utilized properly, it is requisite for the artificial tissues to possess the ability to imitate the functions and behaviors of the human body. The method allows the production of patterned cellular constructs, which, once completely developed, copy or possibly enhance natural tissues. Dr Alexander Graham, lead author and 3D Bioprinting Scientist at OxSyBio proclaimed, We were aiming to fabricate three dimensional living tissues that could display the basic behaviours and physiology found in natural organisms. To date, there are limited examples of printed tissues, which have the complex cellular architecture of native tissues. Hence, we focused on designing a high resolution cell printing platform, from relatively inexpensive components, that could be used to reproducibly produce artificial tissues with appropriate complexity from a range of cells including stem cells. (2000) Remembering episodes: a selective role for the hippocampus during retrieval. Nature Neuroscience, Volume 3, pg 1149 1152. Some researchers hypothesize that the hippocampus is involved in some types of memory processes but not others. This particular study measured brain activity using fMRI during two types of memory tasks: remember (episodic memory) and know (familiarity). A memory was considered episodic if the person could recall the moment it was learned and familiar if they felt they recognized the word but could not retrieve the specidic moment it was learned. The a priori (pre selected) region of interest( ROI) in the hippocampus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Among these different processes are encoding, storage, consolidation, and retrieval. This study hypothesized that the hippocampus plays a different role in each of these. The method of this study is especially unique because it used temporary chemical inactivation of the hippocampus, which had not been done before. This temporary inactivation is unique because it lets the researchers selectively assess the role of the hippocampus during each of the processes discussed above. To test encoding, the inactivation occurred during learning of a maze task; to test retrieval, inactivation occurred during a retention task. Results indicate the temporary inactivation of the hippocampus impairs both encoding and retrieval. To test long term consolidation, rats were trained and then separate groups received hippocampal treatment for different amounts of time between one and five days. Results showed that temporary inactivation during this time period disrupts memory for the already learned task. This study partially supports the result of the study by Eldridge et al. (2000) in that they both show the hippocampus is necessary for memory retrieval. However, it does not address the retrieval of different types of memory. This study also supports the idea from Wang et al. (2012) that the hippocampus may be involved in consolidation and storage of new memories but not necessarily of older ... Likewise, Pride and Prejudice is steeped in irony of theme, situation, character, and narration. Austen uses it to establish the contrast between appearance and reality. As one examines Pride and Prejudice , one discovers the ironic significance of how pride leads to prejudice and prejudice invites pride. Importantly, the novel elucidates how both Pride and Prejudice have their corresponding virtues bound up within them: an intricate relationship that is at once contradictory yet deep.
