Speech On Mid Day Naps
In recent years, people have begun discussing the concept of napping being beneficial, even to adults.
It would seem that many benefits of a midday nap have been uncovered. Many famous people, such as
Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, John F. Kennedy, and even as far back as napoleon, were known
to appreciate napping, and perhaps they were onto something. Some even posit that the accepted
human sleep pattern is not the natural human sleep pattern; it is merely one adopted as a result of our
busy schedules. Questions Is it beneficial for adults to nap midday? If so, for how long? What are the
positive and negative effects of afternoon naps? Significance Our current sleep schedules may not be
the most conducive method for us. Adding a nap into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Benefits of Napping. Harvard Health, May 2012, www.health.harvard.edu/healthbeat/the benefits
of napping. Harvard Health Publications summarizes a study done on the benefits of napping in older
adults. In this study, healthy older people had their sleep monitored for a few days. Half of the
participants were then told to take short naps daily, while half were told to take long naps. When
measured again two and four weeks later, both groups had increased total amounts of sleep, without
any downsides commonly associated with napping, such as sleepiness during the day or inability to
sleep at night. Very few have more respect than me for Harvard, I would venture to say. As a top
institution in the country, I am inclined to accept this source as a reliable one. However, I am not
entirely sure about the usefulness of this article to my topic. It does, of course, discuss the benefits of
naps, but it only looks at a very narrow section of it, specifically in 50 80 year old adults in good
health. It does not discuss implications of this study for people who do not have 45 minutes to two
hours a day to devote to naps, or how it can be helpful to students or people in the work

Elements Of Romanticism In Keats AndThe Wild Swans At Coole
In the context of John Keats Ode to a Nightingale, The Wild Swans at Coole by William Butler Yeats
raises compelling dialogue with Keats piece, which suggests that Yeats, to some degree, draws
inspiration from John Keats, in that his pose concerning the nightingale becomes a basis and
touchstone for The Wild Swans at Coole. Aside from commonalities concerning avians, both poems
share elements of Romanticism, melancholy, feelings of weariness, and other key ideas, images, and
plots as Ode to a Nightingale and thus, The Wild Swans at Coole strengthens Keats initial ideas in a
harmonic and resonant fashion using its own unique methods. As a response to Keatsian Romanticism,
Yeats revises the ideas surrounding transcendence of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Keats artfully notes that the only sound in the night comes from the nightingale s singing;
alternatively, the sole nightingale is the only sound that poet speaker can hear in his reflection,
implying that the bird is as solitary as the poet speaker, as most birds sing during the day. Yeats,
however, comments on his loneliness indirectly with the mention of nine and fifty swans that he has
been counting for nineteen meticulous autumns. Swans, famous for finding mates for life,
characteristically live in pairs and are known to create a heart shape with their necks Yeats recognizes
this explicitly later in the poem by observing that they travelled lover by lover. Thus, the inclusion of
the odd numbers is not coincidental and raises a question of why Yeats chose to use 59 and 19 in
particular. Perhaps the speaker of the poem has lost his spouse and feels lonely, or perhaps he has yet
to find a spouse and will soon die in either case, the solitude is strongly apparent by the lines, I have
looked upon those brilliant creatures ( lover by lover ) / And now my heart is sore. Additionally, 59
swans in one area is an uncommon sight and catches the guaranteed attention of any passerby and
suggests an element of meticulousness from the speaker. By including the absurd number of swans in
his sight, it is as though

Diageo plc
Ian Cray, Diageo plc s Treasurer, looked out of his office window onto the busy streets of London in
October 2000. The London based consumer goods company Diageo had recently announced its
intention to sell its packaged food subsidiary, Pillsbury, to General Mills. Earlier in the year, Diageo
also announced its intent to sell 20% of its Burger King subsidiary through an initial public offering
during
2001, to be followed by a spin off of the remainder of Burger King after December 2002. If these
transactions took place, the firm would be focused exclusively on the beverage alcohol industry. As

The firm was organized along four business segments. The largest was the Spirits and Wine business,
which produced and marketed a portfolio of beverage alcohol such as scotch, vodka, gin, and tequila.
Diageo s brands included Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, J B, Bailey s, Gordon s, Tanqueray,
Cuervo, and Malibu. This division was not only the biggest (with revenues of £5 billion and the
leading market share in the U.S. and U.K. markets) but also the fastest growing of Diageo s
businesses, with sales growth of 8% for the year. More than 70% of sales and sales growth came from
the Europe and North
America markets. This segment enjoyed the largest profit margins of all of the segments, with 15%
operating margins and growth in total operating profits of 15%. The high levels of operating profits
reflected Diageo s strategy of concentrating on premium brands and pricing. (Exhibits 1 and 2 contain
historical financial information for Diageo and its business segments.)
Diageo s second largest division was Guinness Brewing, which produced and sold beer to markets
around the world. This segment, while substantially smaller in sales than the Spirits and Wine

Wake up, go to school, come home, eat, do homework, sleep. Wake up, go to school, come home, eat,

teenager. They do the same things over and over again barley having enough time to interact with their
family and friends. This schedule alters slightly as one gets older, but for the most part everything
stays the same. Each day a repeat of the day before. In the short story I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie

She spent all her time doing household chores and creating a barrier between herself and her daughter.
Through introspection she realizes that she needs to spend more time with her daughter hugging and
showing her love, but she is too late. The point of view in every work of literature can be different. An
author uses the point of view to stress one aspect of a story or a novel to make it more meaningful.
The point of view in this short story is crucial in understanding the phycological standpoint of the
main character. The author s decision to make this story in first person allows for the reader to really
get inside the character s head. If the story was not written in first person then it would be much harder
for the reader to understand the true feelings of the character. For instance, the regret the narrator felt
for the way she raised Emily would not be as evident and sincere if the author just wrote, The mother
really felt bad for the way she raised Emily. Another significant purpose of writing this story in first
person is because it allows the narrator to express her own thoughts and feelings. In order to fully
grasp the narrator s mindset it is necessary to hear the story from her point of view. One very
important aspect of a psychological story is introspection. The character looks into their actions and
thoughts and grows through their thoughts. It would be very difficult to see and understand the

Effects Of Turbiridity Due On Land Use
1)Effects of turbiridity due to land use changes
Turbidity measures the amount of light scattered from a sample and more suspended particles causes
more scattering results in high turbidity.
Turbidity measurements are often used as indicator of water quality based on clarity and total
suspended solid particles. Turbidity doesn t include the dissolved solids which reduces the scattering.
In agricultural lands the receiving water is contaminated by nonpoint pollution due to different
agricultural activities like crop production, cattle operations, crop pattern and rangelands.
High rates of surface runoff and erosion of land covered by annual crops have high levels of turbidity
in receiving water specially in spring when vegetation cover is minimal.
Wetlands used in removal of bacterial contamination in rivers , act as biofilter which increases the
turbidity.
Turbidity is negatively related with the forested areas and positively with the annual crops and urban
land use.
Annual crops have more turbidity than the perennial crops.so the when annual crops are converted
into the forested areas perennial crops pastures cause 16.4% of turbidity.
It is studied that stabilization of urban land through reforestation practices increases in water quality
due to the high turbidity. Protection of water resources through land use policy is essential.
2)forest soils have high rate of infiltration
Infiltration is known as the movement of water in soil profile occure in

PICOT QUESTIONS
ON OXYGENATION EBS Process Question
Within a community of residing adults, what is the effectiveness of hands only CPR compared with
the hands used together with breathing CPR when trying to prevent mortality?
PICOT Problem Statement
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation in community residing adults using hands only CPR versus breathing
and hand use CPR are both useful when trying to avoid death if the people involved are fully aware of
the precautions and steps to take while undertaking the process.
Patient and Clinical Problems
Patients who are suffering from cardiac arrests and neurologic outcomes have a high chance of
needing cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Efficient use of both hands only CPR versus breathing and
hand use CPR may improve their survival chances and boost their neurologic outcomes when they
undergo any form of an attack. The hands only CPR versus breathing and hand use CPR training
programs assist nurses, and the public on the treatment criteria to efficiently handle patients with
cardiac arrests emergencies, resulting in an increase of the cardiac arrests survival rates for many
patients across the world (Lamboy Donohue, 2015).
The hands only CPR versus breathing and hand use CPR involves the nurses or an individual doing
chest compressions, in addition to artificial ventilation that is used to sustain the circulatory flow of
blood and the oxygenation of the lungs during the cardiac arrests. Hands only CCR involves only the

I. INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND TO THE CASE:
The Copyright Act 1968 (Cth) seeks to protect individuals who have created original literary,
dramatic, musical and artistic works. Sections 14(1) and 36 provide that copyright is infringed when a
person reproduces a substantial part of another s work without the license of the owner of the
copyright. In 2010 the Federal Court of Australia considered whether the flute riff in Down Under a
song by popular Australian group Men at Work was a substantial reproduction of the iconic children s
song Kookaburra composed by Marion Sinclair. This case attracted significant media coverage and
public interest.
On a 2007 broadcast of the popular music quiz show, Spicks n Specks, contestants were asked to name
the Australian nursery rhyme this riff has been based on . Down Under was played. A contestant

Management and Leadership Cmi Level 5
Leadership Practice Assignment
During my research a lot of leadership and management theories I have read, watched and listened to
in various fields have lead me to believe most come to the same conclusion. I have taken a wide range
of examples which I feel to be the most relevant to me and my role.
What is Management? This is in itself is open to debate in various cultures and practices as there are a
number of different managers across all areas of life from a shift manager, upper, lower and middle
management to a football club manager. To me a manager is an individual who is in charge of a
certain group of tasks, or a certain subset of a company. A manager often has a staff of people who
report to him or her, but can also just be held ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sims (2002) writes managers motivate employees, direct the activities of others, select the most
effective communication channel, or resolve conflicts among members, they are engaging in leading.
I have described leaders there attributes and responsibilities so taking this in mind can a leader make
an effective manager? Referring back to a business educational website (businessballs) it states good
leadership always includes responsibility for managing. Lots of the managing duties may be delegated
through others, but the leader is responsible for ensuring there is appropriate and effective
management for the situation or group concerned. As described earlier leaders can be found in all
aspects of life and business for example a leader of a small business may also be the managing
director, where they are also responsible for the task carried out primarily by managers, tasks include
measuring and reporting performance, problem solving and improving productivity and efficiency.
Although the leader s main goal is to drive and lead the business forward the need to manage is within
the capabilities.
Dependant on the role I feel it is both beneficial for a leader to have managerial attributes and to be an
effective manager, having leadership qualities I feel is also necessary. Leadership is more about
change, inspiration, setting the purpose and direction, and building the enthusiasm, unity and staying
power for the journey ahead. Management

Richard Dawkins The Selfish Gene
In 1976, the ethologist Richard Dawkins published a groundbreaking book, The Selfish Gene , in
which the thesis of sociobiology is divulged previously granted by EO Wilson in his Sociobiology

The purpose of Dawkins is to examine the biology of altruism and selfishness. It shows that the

Genes prepare the machine in advance, then this will be at your own risk. Genes act in the long term
by protein synthesis, but this is a slow process. Therefore, the genes build your machine in advance, in
the best way possible and programming it in advance.
Therefore, the behavior is governed by the selfishness of the genes of each agency and not by altruism
of individuals with regard to the other members of their species. Dawkins takes care to show this
throughout the whole book with numerous individual behaviors.
As for the man, for he is the only body able to cope and be contrary to the dictates of the selfish genes,
thanks to our consciousness: . only man can rebel against the tyranny of the selfish replicators Most
characteristics that are unusual in men are due to culture, Dawkins also intended to treat as a
transmission unit, although with some particular mechanisms.
In his own words, for an understanding of modern man must discard to the gene as the sole basis of
our ideas on evolution would also be culture; Darwinism is too broad to be confined to the narrow
context of the gene theory. Culture acts as a replicator that is established in the brain and persist

Mark Twain And Maxine Hong Kingston
In the mid 19th century, America was viewed as a hotspot for freedom and wealth. When the noise of
the gold rush flooded the world, immigrants started to see America more appetizing than ever. The
Chinese saw America as a place to have a fresh start and as a place of refuge because of it s
generosity, so they immigrated to the west in great numbers. There was a large Chinese population in
Virginia and all along the Pacific coast. Writers Mark Twain and Maxine Hong Kingston both wrote in
great detail about the Chinese Immigrants. They went into detail about the immigrants and how they
came over and why. Although Twain and Kingston both wrote about the immigrants in a positive light,
Twain was sympathetic of the immigrants and Kingston focused more on their image and her
ancestors. Mark Twain and Maxine Hong Kingston are both influential writers when it comes to the
history of the Chinese Immigrants. Bother of them showed a great amount of detail on their journey to
America. Mark Twain actually pities the friendless Mongol, there were many superficial stereotypes
of the Chinese immigrants (Ou 33). Twain ridicules the American s racist attitudes against the
Chinese. For example, in Roughing It, he wrote, In every little cooped up, dingy cavern of a hut, faint
with the odor of burning Josh lights and with nothing to see the gloom by save the sickly, guttering
tallow candle, were two or three yellow, long tailed vagabonds, coiled up on a sort of short truckle

Clinical Trials and Thyroid Cancer: Thyroid cancer is often recurrent and difficult to treat. As a result,
patients have been taking part in clinical trials of new and innovative treatments. Clinical trials are
defined as carefully controlled research studies that are done with volunteer patients. Differentiated
thyroid cancer, as explained in a previous section, can be divided into papillary, follicular, and Hürthle
cell arising from follicular cells. The hallmark of follicular thyroid cells is the active uptake of iodine

theranostic agent permitting both imaging and therapy 18. The researchers are hopeful that the
therapeutic refinement of RAI treatment will permit decreased (or absent) dose (and decreased
toxicity) in the patients who are destined to do well, increased dose in the patients who will benefit
from treatment, and more appropriate discontinuation or modification of therapy in those unlikely to
benefit from single agent radioiodine therapy18. It is important to note that in clinical trials for
patients with iodine refractory disease, radioiodine is still highly effective in patients with metastatic
differentiated thyroid cancer and should still be used18. Overall, the future of therapy in advanced
differentiated thyroid cancer is likely to include multiagent treatment18. Clinical trials and research
have also focused in on patients with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP). FAP is an autosomal
dominant syndrome with a predisposition for colorectal cancer19. Lifetime risk of thyroid

Stuart Mill Individuality
Introduction
John Stuart Mill (1806 1873) is recognised as one of the most prolific thinkers of the nineteenth
century, whose liberal political philosophy has influenced intellectuals and political theorists for
decades (Feinberg, 1986). At the same time, Mill s utilitarian approach to society at large reveals
sensibilities and moral considerations that enhance his liberal attitudes in the most surprising ways.
According to Losurdo (2011), it is widely believed that Mill is one of the greatest opponents of
paternalism, supporting individuals liberty and autonomy. However, Mill is also accused of overt
sentiment, ignorance of natural rights, or a diversion from original conceptions of Utilitarianism. As a
result, this essay is concerned with his conception of individuality, as discussed in his On Liberty
(1859), investigating how this notion, based on individual liberty and autonomy, opposes social
control and paternalistic policies.
On the one hand, the essay looks at the ideal of individuality, and its values outside of state ... Show

However, is this political approach immune to social desires to regulate and guard all citizens? This
work explores such tensions between freedom and liberty, and enforced state control, assessing Mill s
liberal utilitarian politics, and their impact on individual lives.
Thesis Statement
This essay argues that John Stuart Mill s On Liberty presents a strong case for individuality of
citizens, challenging the role of paternalism through autonomous social progress and utilitarian values.
On the other hand, it is shown that Mill s arguments against public regulations are very narrow, and
his own ideas frequently adhere to paternalism, thus creating a weak defence against state control
politics.

Theme Of Symbolism In The Cask Of Amontillado
The Cask of Amontillado , a story of revenge and murder. Montresor tells his tale of revenge smugly,
as he invites the reader to applaud his cunning. By luring a friend into the catacombs of the
Montresors, he sought to take back his family s honor. To do so, he plotted a most gruesome murder.
By telling the story from Montresor s point of view, Poe forces the reader to look into the inner
workings of a murderer s mind through his clever use of symbolism. Everything within Poe s stories
takes on symbolic meaning. Every detail seems to stand for something else or to be presenting a vital
clue. Those that we encounter in The Cask of Amontillado are no doubt gruesome. However, these
messages that we are compelled to decipher, create the perfect atmosphere. It s carnival season, what s
usually considered a rapturous event, becomes the perfect place for murder. Starring Montresor and
Fortunato, the reaper escorting the fool; we learn of the cask, a coat of arms and motto, as well as, one
s motives. All of these factors come into symbolic play. The setting, the title, the coat of arms, the
motto, the characters names, as well as their costumes, altogether play parts in helping make the
unfortunate murder of Fortunato all the more horrid and ironic.
To begin, the setting plays a symbolic role; representing a jovial time with an ironic twist. One could
get caught up and lost within a carnival, even murdered. It was not uncommon for someone to go
missing after such events. No

neurological damage. It might even result in death. This is why there are serious labor laws in the state
to protect workers. There s a section of New York Labor Law that gives special protection to
construction crews and workers who find themselves at high heights during their work duties.
Thousands of workers are injured and lose their lives due to ladder falls. Section 240 of the labor law

Proving Oxygen Therapy Considering that oxygen is a drug, we must provide it according to the

therapy safely, guidelines would be device selection (high flow or low flow), advanced airways, and
patient ergonomics and movement. Previously mentioned, device selection depends on patient s
outcome and condition. There are low and high flow devices. In low flow devices, oxygen is delivered

Tiananmen Square Massacre
During the time prior to the infamous June 4 Massacre in Tiananmen Square China, there were
numerous events in which provoked political tension and ultimately stimulated the massacre itself.
These events date back to Hu Yaobang s death followed by the AFS seven requests, Deng Xiaoping s
editorial, the student hunger strike, Mikhail Gorbachev s visit to China and the imposed martial law
causing the tragic massacre. The Chinese Government, citizens, students, PLA and even some foreign
journalists were impacted by these primary incidents to a great extent. April 15 1989, is the date of Hu

Xiaoping s editorial as he retaliated fiercely by suppressing the Chinese student opinions. The
demeaning editorial only worsened the situation for the CPC with a chain reaction affect as the
students and civilians were shocked and in due course, more motivated to raise the bar with their
demonstrations as they than demanded the recalling of the editorial. Demonstrators on the streets on
April 27 had swelled to 10 thousand. 9 There is no doubt that the editorial, released only a day earlier,
had been the cause for such figures as Xiaoping s lies had a paramount impact on literally thousands
of students and civilians. Many people were highly displeased, including those in government

Perforated Peptic Ulcer Essay
Perforated Peptic Ulcer Disease: A Review of History and Treatment Abstract In the last one hundred
years much has been written on peptic ulcer disease and the treatment options for one of its most
common complications: perforation. Peptic ulcer disease including both gastric and duodenal ulcer
form a substantial part of patients seeking surgical opinion world wide, The reason for reviewing the
literature was evaluating most common ideas on how to treat perforated peptic ulcers (PPU) in
general, opinions on conservative treatment and surgical treatment and summarizing ideas about
necessary pre , per and postoperative proceedings. The concept of acid in peptic ulcer disease, which
was the basis of treatment of peptic ulcer was revolutionized by the discovery of H2 receptor

The Flintstones Gender Stereotypes
Although animated cartoons have long been associated with children s entertainment, many cartoons
suggest they are for adults as well. Ranging from character portrayal to perceived gender roles,
cartoons such as The Flintstones, The Jetsons, and Scooby Doo both reflect societal values from their
time periods as well as perpetuate the developed stereotypes. Comparing the earliest popular cartoons
to more recent productions, shows progress towards a less stereotypical character portrayal in regards

The Legal Drinking Age At The United States Of America
Vinny Messina Professor Newell ENC 1102 03 May 2015 Time to Look at the Facts There have been
many recent debates on the subject of the legal age to drink alcoholic beverages in the United States of
America. Some otherwise intelligent people want to lower the legal drinking age to eighteen rather
than keep it at twenty one, the current federally mandated drinking age. In Time Magazine Mary Cary,
author of Time to Lower the Drinking Age, puts forth the position that lowering the drinking age
would actually be beneficial to society. Though lowering the drinking age to eighteen may lead to
solutions to underage drinking, many other, more dangerous issues may arise from teenagers who
begin to drink earlier in life; this is the greater matter that and it should not be overlooked on this
issue. According to Mary Cary, lowering the drinking age would not increase drunk driving and the
deaths associated with it. She believes that the issue of drunk driving has already been addressed and
that the problem no longer exists. She states that, Thanks to MADD, drunken driving isn t the problem
it used to be, and she mentions that this is the case because, we now throw the book at drunken drivers
in this country (Cary). While both of these issues may be true, she does not connect these two facts to
lowering the drinking age. Lowering the drinking age may, in fact, increase the risk of drunk driving
since alcohol will be more readily available to young people who have a reputation

Why Design Can Not Remain Exclusive The Writers
Since the NSFNet was decommissioned in the early 1990 s and restrictions on commercial traffic was

other tools on the Internet, all of these 500 million people have a way to say what they re thinking and
have their voice be heard. (Heussner, 2016) With this technological advancement, the individual has
been emancipated from total reliance on the publishers, record labels and retailers. Any individual

In the book Open Design Now: Why Design Cannot Remain Exclusive, Open design is defined as,
distributed manufacturing processes that emphasise the use related capabilities of openness . (Van
Abel, Evers, and Klaassen, 2014) Through information technology, digital manufacturing uses a
network of collaborative facilities that enable manufacturing to be sourced locally. We no longer have
to be restricted to using a single factory or distributor (Liu, Wang, and Wei, 2009). This method
compared to traditional low cost labour options, is more economically sound. In an Article, The Rise
of Distributed Manufacturing and 7 advantages over Traditional Manufacturing (Robinson,2014),
writer Adam Robinson gives two examples of an imaginary company that goes through the traditional
means of manufacturing and distributed manufacturing. In the traditional example a company must
source cheap labourers for the production of their product. when the product is made they are sent via
shipping containers, emitting fuels and taking additional time from the transportation process. If the
product were to undergo a distributed manufacturing process then the company would locally source
experts, there would be a higher labour cost for the design process but the additional costs would be
proportionate to the time and expense saved in the transport costs involved in the Traditional method.
(Robinson,2014) So what does the open in Open design mean?

Listening Is A Key Part Of Encoding And Decoding The Message
What is active listening, it the process of information, which uses all of our senses to convey a
message through perceiving of sound? Our, hearing, smell, taste and touch are part of our senses that
we sometimes use without knowing we are doing it. Moreover, listening correctly, can be a crucial
part of encoding and decoding the message, for clarification and understanding what the message is
conveying. While deciphering messages, you get a sense of understanding what the message is trying
to express. Next, is trying to remember or recall what the message is so that you can retain it. Also,
evaluating what you hear and decoded or deciphered it is essential to understanding what the message
is. When we actively listen, there is some paraphrasing during this process, where you have to restate
the information given by the speaker into your own words. Lastly, responding to the message with an
answer, it could be for learning purposes, personal, enjoyment or even employment, it is important to

Decision Making In The Picture Of Dorian Gray
Cause and Effect
In life, accumulation of mistakes usually leads to corruption if we do not take a certain decision to
make a sincere confession, to give them up. Most of the time, people who are concerned by this type
of behavior are petulant, and like to hear things favorable for them. Therefore, it is true that any failure
to make good choices in life might lead to disaster or might teach us meaningful lessons that we
would never forget. Therefore, thinking about mistakes reminded me of the novel The Picture of
Dorian Gray that I read three years ago. I think it is a good example to illustrate my point of view
regarding a friend who is jealous enough to drive a young inexperienced person in the wrong
direction. Therefore, according to a study in the life span development, regarding decision making, I
have read that older adolescents (as well as adults) decision making skills are far from perfect, and
having the capacity to make competent decisions does not guarantee that such decisions will be made
in everyday life, where breath of experience often comes into play . So, I come to know that anyone
can influence a person s decision at this period of life because of the inability to make rational
decisions. For that reason, youths around this age need to keep good company. However, the young
Dorian in The Picture of Dorian Gray used the appearance of a handsome, pure, innocent, and
inexperienced boy. His wish was to love Sybil, and, make her the greatest actress in

Structural Challenges That Immigrants In Canada Face In...
Although financial barriers to accessing PSE are not particular to immigrants, some studies indicated
that immigrants with low socio economic status may overestimate the cost of PSE. A study on
structural challenges that immigrants in Canada face in accessing PSE notes that while Canadians in
general overestimate the cost of university tuition by approximately $1,000, those from low income
backgrounds overestimate it by approximately $3,000. In addition, low income individuals
underestimate the average annual income differences between high school and university graduates. It
notes that, as part of the low income population, refugees and low socio economic immigrant are
likely to perceive that the cost of higher education outweighs the benefits, and therefore be deterred by
high tuition costs. In addition, low income families tend to reside in neighborhoods that are troubled
with gangs and violence. The study notes that teachers in the low income neighborhoods also tend to
be less qualified.

Brazil World Trade Essay
Brazil World Trade
From the 1500 s to the 1930 s the Brazilian economy relied on the production of primary products for
exports. For three centuries Brazil s economy was heavily curbed because since Portugal discovered
Brazil, they subjected it s economy to an imperial mercantile policy or a strictly enforced colonial
pact. Even though Brazil received its independence in 1822, Portugal s phase of decisions left a
lasting, powerful imprint on Brazil s economy and society. In the late eighteenth century, when wage
labor was adopted and slavery was eliminated considerable changes finally began to occur. Only
starting in the 1930 s were the first steps taken to convert key structural changes by changing Brazil

3.5 million television sets, and 3 million refrigerators. In addition, about 70 million cubic meters of
petroleum were being developed yearly into fuels, lubricants, propane gas, and a wide range of

This is done many times throughout the meal. In European style cuts are still made one at a time but
the fork stays in the left hand and the knife stays in the right. Taking a drink or getting a bite of bread
would be the only time the utensils would need to be put down while dining European style. Soup is
dipped from a 12 o clock position, drug across the rim, and brought to the mouth to sip from the edge
of the soup spoon. Between bites the soup spoon can be left in a shallow bowl called a soup plate, but

The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe is a horror story about a man who loses everything he once had due
to his alcohol use/abuse. The story begins when the narrator confesses his love for animals. The
narrator marries a woman and introduces her to a black cat, named Pluto. The narrator begins to suffer
from violent and uncontrollable mood swings, caused from influence of alcohol. After coming home
drunk one night the narrator lashes out at Pluto, he quickly tries to grab the cat, only to be bitten. To
get revenge the narrator pulls a knife from his pocket and cuts out one of Pluto s eyes. He then goes on
to blame this on the spirit of perverseness, which means rejecting what is good, right, and/or proper.

Democracy And Violent Civil Conflict
Democracy and violent civil conflict
Democracy is believed to have a pacifying power. With electoral processes, the rule of law and
freedom from state oppression it makes sense that the populations has enough avenues to express
grievances without resorting to full scale civil violence. Democracy beyond mutual democratic
pacifism would thus have an impact on internal civil relations positively but this is not the case. There
have been an increased number of cases of civil and ethnic violence in government systems that we
might consider to be in stages of democratization. Evidence would seem to suggest that there are
greater levels of violent civil conflict in these sort of regimes as opposed to full blown dictatorships or

Hypothesis.
There are two major hypothesis in this paper
i. Pseudo democracies have greater levels of civil violence than do democracies ii. Pseudo
democracies have greater levels of civil violence than autocracies.
Theory
I argue that this could be as a result of a number of reasons, while an autocratic government might be
able to use force to keep the population under tight control, a weak democracy with its relative
political and civil freedoms is likely to bring strife as soon as institutions are not functional and
transparent enough. Ethnic groups, religious groups or party faithful soon take to violence when the
institutions in place is not trusted either due to incapacity or lack of transparency and since the citizens
now have a voice and might not be exposed to the dangers of brutal crackdowns they soon are
exposed to strife that soon become violent. This might be due to introduction of unpopular or
controversial laws, dissatisfaction with government performance or suspicion of government s actions.
Competitive elections presents a whole new avenue for disagreement and where the representatives
are disconnected from the electorate, they turn to violent conflict as a route to voice grievances with
less fear of extreme crackdown by the government. The problem is that most often what would start as
a peaceful demonstration explodes into an all out riot with

They also had very pronounced contrasts in focus. Malcolm s concern was the adult learner regardless

Analysis Of The Apocalyptic Destruction Of The Human Race
Zombie texts have been a longstanding subgenre of fantasy. Often gory and with elements of horror,
the apocalyptic destruction of the human race brought about by some form of virus is consumed by
many and is reoccurring in popular culture. It is often questioned why we find such enjoyment in a
text that depicts such horrors. The answer is in the role fantasy plays, which is a fulfillment of a wish,
a way to depict our explicit desires in a licit way, and to provide a screen for us to do this. World War
Z (WWZ) adheres to these fantasy elements whilst also highlighting the mediation between duty and
pleasure. The scene that has been selected for analysis is one where hero Gerry Lane is fleeing with
his family up the stairs of an apartment complex to meet the helicopter that is coming to save them, all
whilst fighting off a horde of zombies. This scene is tense, fast paced, and shows our hero fulfilling
his expected role and the desires of the viewers.
The scene begins with Gerry and his family ready to flee to the roof. The shot is filled with flickering
red light, red being a common symbol for danger, whilst the flickering provides uncertainty and fear.
These shots set the scene for the impending horror. Gerry s wife asks him, How do we know they re
coming? to which he replies, They re coming. From the start, Gerry is the all knowing, calm, collected
hero. He is the protector who takes the lead. As the main character, he is the person the audience sees
themselves as

AP Essay On The Chimney Sweepers

AP ENG 4
February 17, 2017 AP Essay
The Chimney Sweepers was published in 1789 and 1794. William Blake was the author of both poems

that s all he has, his dad sold him to become a slave in sweeping chimneys and his mother died from
sweeping also. This describes that the boy only sweeps to survive but just like it s keeping him alive it
s also killing him. The mom had died from that too and it seemed like it was dangerous and even more

A New Progressive Movement And Naji Essay
The lives of Abu Ali al Kilawi and Naji were drastically changed by the rapid modernization of Syria
for Ali and Iraq for Naji. Abu and Naji s lives changed in unique ways of one another, considering the
different ways the two states modernized, the influences of the country occupying them and the social
and economic statuses of the men within those states. In order to understand the ways in which Abu
and Naji s lives changed it is necessary to analyze the way in which the community evolved during the
time of modernization, the specific role the two individuals held within the community before the
development, and finally connect these two ideas and interpret how the individuals lives were
subsequently affected by modernization. Abu loses his status and role to play in society to a new
progressive movement and Naji faces discrimination based on his Jewish faith because of the
spreading anti semitic ideology. First, understanding the way in which the community in Syria was set
up and how it worked during the time of modernization is essential. At the beginning of modernizing
Syria, was a failed revolution against the French military. This failure morphed popular opinion on
how to progress forward as a nation. Rather than attempting to dispel the French from Syria, Syrians
decided it was their only option to work side by side with the French through diplomacy. This new
found group built strictly on forming diplomatic relationships with the French government became
called

  • 2. Speech On Mid Day Naps In recent years, people have begun discussing the concept of napping being beneficial, even to adults. It would seem that many benefits of a midday nap have been uncovered. Many famous people, such as Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, John F. Kennedy, and even as far back as napoleon, were known to appreciate napping, and perhaps they were onto something. Some even posit that the accepted human sleep pattern is not the natural human sleep pattern; it is merely one adopted as a result of our busy schedules. Questions Is it beneficial for adults to nap midday? If so, for how long? What are the positive and negative effects of afternoon naps? Significance Our current sleep schedules may not be the most conducive method for us. Adding a nap into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Benefits of Napping. Harvard Health, May 2012, www.health.harvard.edu/healthbeat/the benefits of napping. Harvard Health Publications summarizes a study done on the benefits of napping in older adults. In this study, healthy older people had their sleep monitored for a few days. Half of the participants were then told to take short naps daily, while half were told to take long naps. When measured again two and four weeks later, both groups had increased total amounts of sleep, without any downsides commonly associated with napping, such as sleepiness during the day or inability to sleep at night. Very few have more respect than me for Harvard, I would venture to say. As a top institution in the country, I am inclined to accept this source as a reliable one. However, I am not entirely sure about the usefulness of this article to my topic. It does, of course, discuss the benefits of naps, but it only looks at a very narrow section of it, specifically in 50 80 year old adults in good health. It does not discuss implications of this study for people who do not have 45 minutes to two hours a day to devote to naps, or how it can be helpful to students or people in the work ... Elements Of Romanticism In Keats AndThe Wild Swans At Coole In the context of John Keats Ode to a Nightingale, The Wild Swans at Coole by William Butler Yeats raises compelling dialogue with Keats piece, which suggests that Yeats, to some degree, draws inspiration from John Keats, in that his pose concerning the nightingale becomes a basis and touchstone for The Wild Swans at Coole. Aside from commonalities concerning avians, both poems share elements of Romanticism, melancholy, feelings of weariness, and other key ideas, images, and plots as Ode to a Nightingale and thus, The Wild Swans at Coole strengthens Keats initial ideas in a harmonic and resonant fashion using its own unique methods. Keats artfully notes that the only sound in the night comes from the nightingale s singing; alternatively, the sole nightingale is the only sound that poet speaker can hear in his reflection, implying that the bird is as solitary as the poet speaker, as most birds sing during the day. Yeats, however, comments on his loneliness indirectly with the mention of nine and fifty swans that he has been counting for nineteen meticulous autumns. Swans, famous for finding mates for life, characteristically live in pairs and are known to create a heart shape with their necks Yeats recognizes this explicitly later in the poem by observing that they travelled lover by lover. Thus, the inclusion of the odd numbers is not coincidental and raises a question of why Yeats chose to use 59 and 19 in particular. Perhaps the speaker of the poem has lost his spouse and feels lonely, or perhaps he has yet to find a spouse and will soon die in either case, the solitude is strongly apparent by the lines, I have looked upon those brilliant creatures ( lover by lover ) / And now my heart is sore. Additionally, 59 swans in one area is an uncommon sight and catches the guaranteed attention of any passerby and suggests an element of meticulousness from the speaker. She spent all her time doing household chores and creating a barrier between herself and her daughter. Through introspection she realizes that she needs to spend more time with her daughter hugging and showing her love, but she is too late. The point of view in every work of literature can be different. An author uses the point of view to stress one aspect of a story or a novel to make it more meaningful. The point of view in this short story is crucial in understanding the phycological standpoint of the main character. The author s decision to make this story in first person allows for the reader to really get inside the character s head. If the story was not written in first person then it would be much harder for the reader to understand the true feelings of the character. For instance, the regret the narrator felt for the way she raised Emily would not be as evident and sincere if the author just wrote, The mother really felt bad for the way she raised Emily. Another significant purpose of writing this story in first person is because it allows the narrator to express her own thoughts and feelings. In order to fully grasp the narrator s mindset it is necessary to hear the story from her point of view. One very important aspect of a psychological story is introspection. The character looks into their actions and thoughts and grows through their thoughts. It would be very difficult to see and understand the introspection of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Effects Of Turbiridity Due On Land Use 1)Effects of turbiridity due to land use changes Turbidity measures the amount of light scattered from a sample and more suspended particles causes more scattering results in high turbidity. Turbidity measurements are often used as indicator of water quality based on clarity and total suspended solid particles. Turbidity doesn t include the dissolved solids which reduces the scattering. In agricultural lands the receiving water is contaminated by nonpoint pollution due to different agricultural activities like crop production, cattle operations, crop pattern and rangelands. High rates of surface runoff and erosion of land covered by annual crops have high levels of turbidity in receiving water specially in spring when vegetation cover is minimal. Wetlands used in removal of bacterial contamination in rivers , act as biofilter which increases the turbidity. Turbidity is negatively related with the forested areas and positively with the annual crops and urban land use. Annual crops have more turbidity than the perennial crops.so the when annual crops are converted into the forested areas perennial crops pastures cause 16.4% of turbidity. It is studied that stabilization of urban land through reforestation practices increases in water quality due to the high turbidity. There was a large Chinese population in Virginia and all along the Pacific coast. Writers Mark Twain and Maxine Hong Kingston both wrote in great detail about the Chinese Immigrants. At the same time, Mill s utilitarian approach to society at large reveals sensibilities and moral considerations that enhance his liberal attitudes in the most surprising ways. According to Losurdo (2011), it is widely believed that Mill is one of the greatest opponents of paternalism, supporting individuals liberty and autonomy. The Legal Drinking Age At The United States Of America Vinny Messina Professor Newell ENC 1102 03 May 2015 Time to Look at the Facts There have been many recent debates on the subject of the legal age to drink alcoholic beverages in the United States of America. Some otherwise intelligent people want to lower the legal drinking age to eighteen rather than keep it at twenty one, the current federally mandated drinking age. In Time Magazine Mary Cary, author of Time to Lower the Drinking Age, puts forth the position that lowering the drinking age would actually be beneficial to society. Though lowering the drinking age to eighteen may lead to solutions to underage drinking, many other, more dangerous issues may arise from teenagers who begin to drink earlier in life; this is the greater matter that and it should not be overlooked on this issue. According to Mary Cary, lowering the drinking age would not increase drunk driving and the deaths associated with it. She believes that the issue of drunk driving has already been addressed and that the problem no longer exists. She states that, Thanks to MADD, drunken driving isn t the problem it used to be, and she mentions that this is the case because, we now throw the book at drunken drivers in this country (Cary). While both of these issues may be true, she does not connect these two facts to lowering the drinking age. In the book Open Design Now: Why Design Cannot Remain Exclusive, Open design is defined as, distributed manufacturing processes that emphasise the use related capabilities of openness . (Van Abel, Evers, and Klaassen, 2014) Through information technology, digital manufacturing uses a network of collaborative facilities that enable manufacturing to be sourced locally. We no longer have to be restricted to using a single factory or distributor (Liu, Wang, and Wei, 2009). This method compared to traditional low cost labour options, is more economically sound. In an Article, The Rise of Distributed Manufacturing and 7 advantages over Traditional Manufacturing (Robinson,2014), writer Adam Robinson gives two examples of an imaginary company that goes through the traditional means of manufacturing and distributed manufacturing. In the traditional example a company must source cheap labourers for the production of their product. when the product is made they are sent via shipping containers, emitting fuels and taking additional time from the transportation process. If the product were to undergo a distributed manufacturing process then the company would locally source experts, there would be a higher labour cost for the design process but the additional costs would be proportionate to the time and expense saved in the transport costs involved in the Traditional method. Decision Making In The Picture Of Dorian Gray Cause and Effect In life, accumulation of mistakes usually leads to corruption if we do not take a certain decision to make a sincere confession, to give them up. Most of the time, people who are concerned by this type of behavior are petulant, and like to hear things favorable for them. Therefore, it is true that any failure to make good choices in life might lead to disaster or might teach us meaningful lessons that we would never forget. Therefore, thinking about mistakes reminded me of the novel The Picture of Dorian Gray that I read three years ago. I think it is a good example to illustrate my point of view regarding a friend who is jealous enough to drive a young inexperienced person in the wrong direction. Therefore, according to a study in the life span development, regarding decision making, I have read that older adolescents (as well as adults) decision making skills are far from perfect, and having the capacity to make competent decisions does not guarantee that such decisions will be made in everyday life, where breath of experience often comes into play . So, I come to know that anyone can influence a person s decision at this period of life because of the inability to make rational decisions. Pseudo democracies have greater levels of civil violence than autocracies. Ethnic groups, religious groups or party faithful soon take to violence when the institutions in place is not trusted either due to incapacity or lack of transparency and since the citizens now have a voice and might not be exposed to the dangers of brutal crackdowns they soon are exposed to strife that soon become violent. This might be due to introduction of unpopular or controversial laws, dissatisfaction with government performance or suspicion of government s actions. Often gory and with elements of horror, the apocalyptic destruction of the human race brought about by some form of virus is consumed by many and is reoccurring in popular culture. The answer is in the role fantasy plays, which is a fulfillment of a wish, a way to depict our explicit desires in a licit way, and to provide a screen for us to do this. World War Z (WWZ) adheres to these fantasy elements whilst also highlighting the mediation between duty and pleasure.
