Worse, it relieves teachers of the fundamental responsibility of putting such books in context and
helping students understand that Huckleberry Finn actually stands as a powerful indictment of
slavery. Using its contested language is an opportunity to explore the painful complexities of race

Imagine that one night you end up sleepwalking and end up killing someone. Sounds crazy doesn t
it? Things like this have actually happened. There are now 68 known cases of homicidal
somnambulism. (BBC) . Homicidal somnambulism is the act of murdering someone while in the
state of sleepwalking. The legal argument for this has been that the defendant was not in their
normal state of mind while this has happened and therefore cannot be blamed for such a crime.
Locke is known to believe in his theory of personal identity and diversity. Locke s theory talks
about consciousness and how our consciousness makes our identity through our experiences.
Locke states that we are only considered guilty of committing a crime if we were aware of it and
remember doing it. Although I agree with Locke in some terms regarding our identity having
something to do with our consciousness, I do not fully agree. I believe that personal identity is
what we see ourselves as whether that be physical features, morals, or anything that crosses those

My Family Road Trip
Family Road Trip It was a hot summer day. You could see the heat rise up from the road. The sun
scorched the the sidewalk so intensely I could have fried an egg on it. We had just gotten done
loading our luggage in the van. I grabbed my phone and headed for the door. We were ready to
go to the airport. We had been planning on our trip to California for days. Everyone would not
shut up about seeing our relatives. I just couldn t wait to leave this dreadful, miserable, boring
place called Sedalia. We went to get some gas because it was like a 3 hour drive. When we
stopped my mom was the only one who got out because she didn t want to deal with annoying
brats, my sisters. So I was stuck with them, alone, by myself, in a car. It sounded like there was a
zoo behind me and the monkeys just got loose. Other people were looking at our car and in their
face there was horror. My mom finally gets back and we start to drive. Sense we re going out of
state on an airplane, we couldn t take our car with us. So we went to go pick up my mom s
husband from work. He wasn t going to california with us so he could take the car. We pick him
up, he chucks his lunch box to the middle, and he takes the wheel. We start driving, again. I ve
never really liked my mom s husband, he s always hated me and one of my sisters because we
aren t his. I really don t like anyone I live with. My mom loses things like our birth certificate, her
driver s license, even her bills. I m so over it. My sisters, my sisters are little spoiled crybabies.
When i was there age, I was hit so many times that the buckle of a belt feels like a pinch. I cried
when I got kicked on the side. They cry if someone raises their voice at them the slightest bit. I m
the smartest person in the house, so I m constantly angry because everyone comes to me when
they need help. I help with things like homework, I translate for my mom and her husband, I
never had help. I ve always been on my own, if I need help with something like homework, well

On June 21st, 2010, Father s Day, President Barack Obama delivered a speech in Washington
D.C. addressing a crowd of his cabinet members, veterans, senators, and normal fathers. He aimed
to give a speech about promoting responsible fatherhood, but his speech went beyond that. He
addressed the crowd with a calm demeanor and a strong voice, and gave a speech on the
importance of being a present father and the many lasting negative effects that having an absent
father can have on a child. His heavy use of pathos, the appeal to emotion, gave the speech depth,

The main point of President Obama s Speech was that there are few things that a child benefits

Everyone who experienced being a Prisoner of War were followed by physical, psychological and
spiritual affects, and also affects that made them feel less than a person. Louie s journey was no
different. The physical affects were terrible, Louie had little food and water so he lost an
extreme amount of weight. This was compounded with beating with first and kicks. The prison
guards didn t care, they made the POW s work long, free labor hours. There were no medicines to
treat any sick or injured so, if you were hurt you would most likely end up dead. All this horrible
