Greek Mental Illness History
The history of psychopathology goes back hundreds of centuries in the past. The history of
psychopathology goes along with social and medical history. Throughout history we can see that
mental health has evolved in the way we conceive it. Also, through history, we understand why the
mentally ill have been tortured, or protected, and this will depend on the perspective of the human
being at that particular time. Mentally ill people in prehistoric times were seen as if evil spirits possess
them, so the exorcism and spells applications were the ways to treat their condition. Today mental
illness is treated scientifically and as human disease and not as in ancient times that was awarded to
supernatural powers. Primitive Cultures 10,000 BC In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Pre Colonial Virginia Stephen
Christined Adeline Virginia Stephen and born to Sir Leslie Stephen and Julia Prinsep Duckworth
Stephen on the 25th day of January, 1882, Virginia was the third child of the couple after Vanessa
(1879) and Julian (1880), and before Adrian (1883). As the couple was into their second nuptial
relationship, they both had children from their previous marriage George, Gerald and Stella from Julia
s; Laura from Leslie s. They all lived together at 22 Hyde Park Gate, Kensington. Leslie was an
academician with connections with William Thackeray, his father in law from his former marriage.
Julia was the neice of Julia Margaret Cameron and the women in her family had served as a models
for pre Raphaelite painters. Clearly, both the parents were important figures in the Victorian literary
circle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Julian and Adrian were sent to Cambridge for seeking education while Virginia was not. Leslie taught
her at home and encouraged her to read more and more. As a child, she was sexually abused by her
half brothers, George and Gerald. This has been unravelled from her autobiographical works, A Sketch
of the Past and 22 Hyde Park Gate. The visits of renowned literary figures, fellows from Cambridge,
and books from the family s well stacked library gave her an intellectual bent of mind. Her mother s
death in 1895 led to her first nervous breakdown and caused anorexia in her. Her education was halted
for two years after Julia s death because her doctor believed that her brain was using up all essential
nutrients and making her lean and sickly. However, she continued on with her books. Between 1897
and 1901, she studied Greek, German, History and Latin in King s College London. The deaths of
Stella, her surrogate mother and Julian sucked her into a vortex of depression. Leslie s death in 1904
gave Virginia another jolt from which recovery did not seem easy. Nervous disorder caused her to be
briefly institutionalised in 1910, 1912 and

Cons Of Rail Transport
II. Pros and cons of using Rail/risks and benefits of using Rail There are several pros and cons to any
mode of transportation. These pros and cons include cost, efficiency, and responsiveness. The goal is
to find the most appropriate mode of transportation for the type, amount, and destination of cargo.
There will be different needs for every product, origin, destination, and organization. First on the list is
cost. Cost of transportation is one of the major considerations involved in a successful supply chain.
Fortunately, in this department rail is one of the best performers. Rail is known for being a relatively
inexpensive mode of transporting large amounts of overland cargo. In fact, The price structure and
heavy load capability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, if the organization were able to ship their goods by truck, then they would have the
option of either operating an in house fleet or outsourcing their transportation needs. When comparing
rail to tucking it is important to keep some things in mind. In the early days, the choice of rail vs truck
was easy because by the time that transportation by tuck came about rail transportation had been
around for a long time. In addition, the adoption of motor cars also proved to be more gradual than
that of passenger trains, the result of primitive technologies, high costs, and poor roads (GRANT,
2012, p. 248). This further added to the dominance of rail. In defense of trucking it can hall large
amounts of cargo over long distances. In addition, it can do so with a reasonably high degree of
responsiveness. However, the amount of cargo that rail can hall is considerably larger than that of
trucking. The responsiveness of trucking also comes at a higher cost then rail. Trucking is more suited
to haling more expensive goods that require higher responsiveness. However, in other parts of the
world where the rail infrastructure is more developed or more suitable for transporting cargo this may
not be an option. Perhaps the best use of both rail and truck is in combination through intermodal
transportation. This method makes use of one or more transportation methods in order to achieve to
achieve the best mix of

Developing Strategies Involves Hypothesis Generation
Developing strategies involves hypothesis generation, creating a series of if then statements. This
process provides the ability to evaluate program effectiveness, to identify significant objectives and to
organize objectives in hierarchical form (Kettner, et. al, 2013). Program design is essentially
hypothesis generation. The hypothesis then gets translated into goals and objectives that provide a
framework for action, a general direction for the program, a timeframe, details tasks, and clearly states
program expectations, which then provides a foundation for monitoring, performance measurement,
and evaluation (Kettner, et. al, 2013). The hypothesis questions are translated into a plan, becoming

al, 2013).
The process of formulating objectives requires that I first establish the objective outcome, to be
followed by the construction of process objectives. Outcome objectives are statements made that
identify expectations of the program, and process objectives clearly state how the service provision
will achieved results. Alongside process objectives are specific activities that detail tasks for program
implementation (Kettner, et. al, 2013).The five components of objectives are: time frame,
identification of the target of the change, the results or outcomes to be achieved, the criteria by which
the results will be documented, monitored, or measured, and notification of who is responsible for
implementing and measuring the achievement of the objective (Kettner, et. al, 2013). Activities
establish the implementation plan clearly, include deadlines, and delegate responsibility.
For the first objective written to meet the goal of the creation of a behavior management program, the
objective is as follows: It is the objective of this program that by May 30th, 2016 to reduce by 85% the
occurrence of documented wandering by patients at Just Like Home with Alzheimer s disease as
measured by through the implementation of behavior management division comprised of specially

How Did The Armory Show American With Impressionism
As Nazi s army occupies cities and countries all over the Europe, Paris was inevitably erupted and
ruined by the pervasion of Fascism. Many influential European avant garde artists such as Duchamp
and Matisse either immigrated or traveled to the United States of America in order to take a break
from the European social disorders. Paris was no longer the symbol represents freedom and liberty, so
the artists were actively seeking a new location to express their thoughts and to create contemporary
artworks without any constraints. These artists and their works were officially exhibited in the Armory
Show. The exhibition introduced American with Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, and Dadaism,
which opens the possibilities of the American Modernity.

A Brief Note On D2 And Computer Misuse Act
D3 How to Improve Web Security.
Websites are exposed to the outside world and everything possible should be done to ensure that they
remain safe and enjoyable environments for the people who use them. Legally it is the responsibility
of the owners of the website to ensure that any information stored about customers is protected and
that the site is not used as a base for installing malicious software upon user s computers or launch
Denial of Service Attacks against other people s sites. To learn more about the legal responsibilities
you should read the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Computer Misuse Act 1990. Apart from the
legal aspects of security there are also business aspects to it. An unsafe website will not attract and
keep customers.
Server Side security.
Servers should be protected by strong firewalls and access to ports beyond standard HTTP and
HTTPS disabled. Do not expose your server s entry points more than you have to. Within the server
you should employ an intrusion detection system like Tripwire to catch attempts at hacking whilst they
are occurring.
Access to the contents of the webserver that is hosting your site should be protected with strong
authentication. It does not matter how strong the rest of your security measures are if your webserver
contains weak passwords and default accounts. The passwords chosen should be as long as possible
and contain special characters, such as the dollar sign, to make it difficult for hackers to use brute

In this essay the topic popular culture in line with technology will be discussed between the time
periods of 1945 until present day. Technology can be described as machinery and devices developed
from scientific knowledge, and is the branch of knowledge that deals with engineering or the applied
sciences. The essay will cover what was popular during these eras, what had influenced technology
throughout the time zones and what the positives and negatives of technology were at those times.
In 1945 to the 1950s the main influence of this era was World War 2. This influence led to advances in
technology through weaponry during the war. An example of this weaponry includes the creation of

Agency Theory Essay
QUESTION 1 (i)
AGENCY COSTS IN DEBT CONTRACTING
The agency theory examines the relationship between the principle and agent under the assumption
that that individuals act in their own self interest in order to maximise their personal wealth. This
conflict of interest creates agency costs that are borne by the principle. The agency problem is
apparent in debt contacting relationships where the firm is assumed to be acting in the interests of its
shareholders when borrowing money from the debt holders. Agency costs are incurred by the debt
holder when a firm engages in opportunistic behaviours in an attempt to expropriate wealth away from
its debt holder. As a result, the debt holder faces an increased risk of lending the funds to the firm.
There are four common opportunistic actions that firm can take in order to expropriate wealth from its
debt holder
PAY EXCESSIVE DIVIDENDS
Black (as cited in Smith and Warner, 1979) states that there is no easier way for a company to escape
the burden of debt than to pay out all of its assets in the form of dividend, and leave the creditors
holding an empty shell . In this situation, the firm promises the debt holder to maintain a consistent
dividend policy at the time of borrowing funds but later increases the rate of dividends. According to
Smith and Warner (1979), the increase in dividend policy reduces the value of the debt and ultimately,
increases the risk to the debt holders. The firm is being opportunistic because debt holders

who believes that a particular race is superior to another. These people have also been classified as
conservatives. The question that I present in this essay is why conservatives are seen as racist? This
question will be answered with both perspectives of the Liberals and the Conservatives. With their

fact there are bad people in any group and how there is the Misrepresentation of a community, but
questioned that liberals hadn t walked away from the past and all of this is counterproductive. Which
implies that conservative or the author of this article thinks liberals need some racist enemy to fight
against. Even after the post Civil right movement. Conservatives are convinced that liberals hold on to
those events as some fuel to push their agenda. It is said that liberals are so proud of their
achievements in the Civil Rights Movement it is all they have to combat the conservatives. Which is

The Importance Of Environmental Problems In The World
Environmental problems are known to be a Wicked problem because there are so many sides one must
please, and ultimately never solve. From power, transportation, food scarcity; each one of these face
technological and government borders. The fact is it is hard to make people agree, it is truly
remarkable that the United Nations still stands and operates today when so many earlier versions of it
have failed. Still when countries are not at war together, their own country is not revolution, the topic
of the environment takes center stage. Because events like global warming are not one country s
problem, btu everyone s as humans are all connected by the same ocean. Brining in environmentally
friendly buildings, to working with municipalities, schools, and communities to become more green.
How the ever growing population leads to more problems, and above all how one teacher can make a

The Cultural Analysis Of Outdoor Leisure Essay
Chapter Five: The Cultural Analysis of Outdoor Leisure in the Select Field Cities
1. Introduction
In the last chapter, the development of outdoor leisure practices in the selected cities is in tamed with
the transformations of Chinese government economic strategies. With increasing disposable money,
overall increased spare time compared with Maoist era, health conscious as well as the negative
consequences caused by modernization in terms of high pressure of working condition with high trade

American Rockwell Freedom From Want Analysis
In contrast to the liberation and artistic freedoms of Pollock s revolutionary art, the American
government preferred conservative work of artists like Norman Rockwell. Norman Rockwell s
paintings embodied a traditional, Regionalist style. One of Rockwell s most renowned pieces of work
is the Freedom From Want, representing the traditional and perfected American lifestyle. Painted in
1943, Rockwell depicts an ideal white American family celebrating Thanksgiving dinner. As an artist,
Rockwell specialized in displaying traditional and conservative American values. Through identifiable
shapes and brushstrokes, Rockwell creates a scene with a clear message of American tradition, unlike
Pollock. It stands as a symbol of what the ideal, nuclear American family looks like. Rockwell s
Freedom From Want was inspired by President Franklin Roosevelt s address to Congress in 1941 in
which he listed four American basic human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

have auto sensing and braking capabilities. Another really intriguing feature of AI would be faster and
more accurate web searches. I believe being able to provide information instantly will further improve
lives and the business world, since time is money. Today we call artificial intelligence narrow artificial
intelligence which means artificial intelligence that is weak. Google is an example of narrow artificial
intelligence that we use every day. Other examples of narrow artificial intelligence include ATMs and
touchless car washes, they are designed to execute a set of tasks. Whereas AI can learn set tasks and
create new tasks based on its intuition and ability to think and problem solve for itself. What s in store
for Artificial intelligence within the next 5 years (believe me a lot can happen with technology in 5
years)? 3 D printers, IOT (internet of things), virtual reality (VR), and artificial intelligence (AI) are
taking the spotlight light currently. These technologies will exponentially improve and become more
commonplace in the business world then expand into the consumer market once businesses have
improved their capabilities as a pioneer in the technologies. One can expect 3 D printers to be able to
print everything from cars/trucks to tissue cells for

Organelles In Animal Cells Essay
Organelles are the internal structures of the cell that are important for the cell to survive. Each
organelle has a specific function for the cell. The types of organelles in the cell can be different from
each other depending on the type of cell. Plant cells and animal cells both have a cytoskeleton,
endoplasmic reticulum (smooth and rough), golgi apparatus, mitochondrion, nucleus, plasma
membrane, and ribosomes. Animal and plant cells also have vacuoles, but they are rarely found in
animal cells. Vacuoles in animal cells are very small compared to the vacuoles in plant cells.
Lysosomes are also rarely found in plant cells but mostly found in animal cells. The cytoplasm is a
semifluid in the plasma membrane. It is in all eukaryotic cells. In prokaryotes, this is where the
chemical processes of the cell take place. In eukaryotic cells, this is where organelles perform their
functions. Cellular respiration also takes place here. One of stages of cellular respiration is glycolysis.
Glycolysis is when glucose breaks down to form two pyruvates and 4 ATP. Its net result of 2 ATP is
important for another process called the Krebs Cycle. This process is important because it begins
cellular respiration. The cytoplasm also gives the cell its shape; without it, the cell would be deflated
and substances would not be able to move throughout the cell. Organelles would have difficulty
functioning too. It has been misunderstood that organelles float freely in the cytoplasm even

Waste Reduction, Or Waste Prevention

Technology Sector Report
Waste reduction, or waste prevention, is critical in today s growing world population. In a society with
so many people, and an ever growing population, resources need to be saved and used sparingly.
Waste reduction is a method of managing the waste created and how it is disposed of. Waste reduction
means that less waste is produced, which equals less waste removal costs, and helps keep the
environment clean. Waste reduction can be achieved through the using of less plastic and other similar
materials that get thrown into landfills, and by using every day, reusable objects, such as water bottles
and silverware, instead of plastic bottles and plastic utensils. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Granulators are similar to grinders, but they take already reduced pieces of material and make the
pieces even smaller, allowing recycling these once large pieces of wood to be a lot easier. A more
unique method is to use a compactor which compresses waste so that the waste takes up a smaller
area, and therefore, less space. Compactors are used at recycling centers and junkyards to reduce the
area that solid waste takes up.
The idea of waste reduction began long before modern machines were put to use. In 1908, A.A. Low
created the first paper shredder: the Waste Paper Receptacle but was never put to commercial
manufacturing because he never had the incentive to do so. The first paper shredder put to sale
actually came in 1936, when German Adolf Ehinger produced the first commercial paper shredder. In
1921, the world s first geothermal power plant was built in California. In 1965, the first federal solid
waste management law, the Solid Waste Disposal Act, was authorized by Congress. On April 22,
1970, the U.S. celebrated the first annual Earth Day. Later that year, the United States Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) was created. In 1972, Washington state started the first buy back recycling
center, accepting newspapers, beer bottles, and aluminum cans. This buy back recycling center led to
the ones that would give people money for their recyclable products, giving people an incentive to
recycle more often. The U.S.

Rebellion in Fight Club and One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest
Rebellion in Fight Club and One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest All societies have a basic structure, and
in order to function well with others, a person must conform to the laws and regulations of said
society. In the novels Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk and One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest by Ken
Kesey, a variety of themes are discussed, with the major theme being rebellion. The main characters of
both these novels struggle with the established structure they are living in and are unwilling to
conform to its rules. They both rebel by openly defying laws, and disobeying authoritative figures.
The novels main characters are furthermore comparable because they not only rebel but also guide
others to do the same. The men whom they lead carry on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the two station attendants try to exploit the men, McMurphy helps them gain the upper hand by
posing as criminally insane (Fick). Even though the patients become men , adult sexuality is
conspicuously absent from the novel. It is mainly the men s cause to remain boys on their own terms
(Fick par. 8). McMurphy s women are boys companions. Candy and Sandy are good bad girls.
McMurphy s sexuality complements a personal consistency that obliterates the distinction between
past and present. Returning from the fishing trip, for example, he stops by his childhood house and
tells the men of his own sexual initiation (Fick par. 9). The rebellion in both novels is also caused by a
sense of monotony. The narrator in Fight Club is discontent with his lackluster life; he is so into his
material possessions that he creates an alter ego who destroys them all. I hated my life. I was tired and
bored with my job and my furniture, and I couldn t see any way to change things (Palahniuk 172). It is
only after he gets rid of everything and stops leading a consumerist lifestyle that he is finally free. The
tedium in the ward drives McMurphy to rebel, much like the narrator in Fight Club. He feels bored
with everyday life and with following the rules; he wants more. The theme that raises questions in
both novels is insanity; Tyler Durden is the narrator s alter ego

The Effects of Greed and The American Dream in The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby focuses on the excitement and adventure of the roaring
twenties, a time filled with great economic success and parties said to last the whole decade. New to
Long Island and New York, aspiring bond man Nick Carraway becomes infatuated with the lifestyle of
his rich peers living the American dream . He gains interest in his mysterious neighbor Jay Gatsby,
who lives in an incredible mansion and has a vast amount of wealth. Gatsby uses his money to try and
steal his love, Daisy Buchanan from her unfaithful husband, Tom. Characters in The Great Gatsby are
unhappy and unfulfilled with their lives due to greed manipulating their view of The American Dream.
This skewed perception also affects their unreasonable life expectations and their narcissistic thoughts
create a larger potential for failure, such as Gatsby s extravagant plan to steal Daisy Buchanan.
Jay Gatsby is a self made man, he turned himself from a farm boy to one of the richest men in
America at the time and bought himself a beautiful mansion on West Egg, Long Island with the other
new millionaires. In contrast to the newly rich, there are those who have inherited their wealth from
family before them such as Tom and Daisy Buchanan. These people were lucky to be born into their
lives and reside on East Egg along with other family s with old money . Readers come to easily

The main question today is who has control of the weapons. The former superpower Russia is in

Discussion On An Instructional Method
Discussion as an Instructional Method I would use discussion as an instructional method because it is
a great interactive learning tool and facilitates listening, teamwork, confidence, critical thinking,
critical listening and critical reading. Moreover, classroom discussions can help students sharpen their
communication and speaking skills. Classroom discussion helps to dispel myths and preconceived
prejudices about others and students tend to develop mutual respect for one and others. Above all,
discussions foster better understanding as students share their take on the subject, additional
knowledge is shared. Hence, discussions require keen listening skills. I would say from my personal
experience, classroom discussions opened up my own understanding of many subjects and helped me
to navigate toward right thinking. The best way to express my love of this teaching method is to tell
the story of how much I hated it when I started Mercer University. My second semester at Mercer, I
had surgery and had to take two online classes. This was when I was first introduced to the discussion
method. As with most things new, it was frustrating. It grew more challenging because the responses
that I had to reply to did not make sense 80% of the time. Many of the students did not write very well
and we were required to respond. It was extremely difficult to respond to something that did not make
sense. So, I became a critical reader. I made sense out of

Evolution Vs. Fossil Records
Evolution has been a widely known discussion that many people have had over the past century, the
theory of evolution has been welcomed by many scientists yet by some religious people it has been a
taboo topic. The thought or the motion to entertain that humans evolved from primates is what some
people would shudder and state that it goes against all their religious beliefs. However, scientist have
pushed on the fact that evolution is not just a hypothetical or an outlandish theory but a theory that has
multiple hard evidence to back it and that to ignore is ignorance and just plain stupidity. Four types of
evidence of evolution are fossil records, genetic changes, the geographic distribution of species, and
the similarities in embryos of species. One of the evidences of evolution is fossil records, with fossil
records being the remains of plants and animals that scientist have found in sedimentary rocks. Fossil
records have given us irrefutable evidence of evolution in the past, over a course of a long period of
time, proving there is significant variation amongst living things. Evolution is a continuum; all the
minor changes over a period of time add up to a major change. On the continuum, fossils are the
points that displaying what the organism had become after evolving at that stage in time.
Although fossil records are substantial evidence for evolution there are gaps in the fossil records due
to the fact of incompletion of the collecting data. As evolution is

Reaction Paper On Aspartame
Aspartame is an artificial sweetner used commonly and widely in most of the products especially in
diet foods all over the world. Aspartame is one of the most common artifical sugar subsitute used,
which is sold under the brand names NutraSweet and Equal.
It is a non sachharide sweetner, made by coupling of two amino acids (Phenylalanine and Aspartic
Acid) together. It is a methly ester of the aspartic acid and phenylalanine dipeptide.
Aspartame is used as it is 200 times more sweeter than sugar, so a very less amount is used in
replacement of sugars giving lowest calories.
History
M. Schlatter, a chemist working for G.D Searle and company, discovered aspartame as an intermediate
product, during the integration of hormone gastrin. The sweet taste of aspartame was discovered
accidently in 1965, when he licked his finger which had come in tact with the aspartame.

Being A Coach
The importance of being a coach of a team is to encourage teamwork and enhance self confidence on
the pitch, as well as off. The coach is the structural foundation of developing a successful team. The
coaching role would include things like helping the team flow as one single unit other than multiple
little units, to help increase skill and teamwork and put the players together to create a winning
outcome. At their worst, coaches can push the psychological, emotional, and physical limits of their
players to the point of deleterious conduct, create a hostile and unfair environment, and turn young
athletes away from sports forever. Naturally every coach will need to know a variety of skills that
have to do with technique, obtaining omnipotent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first concern with being a coach is where to start with training the players. The coach is to
measure skill levels of the individuals, their mentality of the sport, and also, how they interact with
each other is key to being a coach. Secondly, the most important role of a coach is to be the role model
for his/her players and to be able to have patients and be forthright more often then not. A great place
to start coaching is by understanding the dynamics of the team. This is the process of figuring out how
team members relate to one another (Understand Team Dynamics). Forming positive relationships
with the players and also, the parents to acquire trust and assure the players a comfortable
environment would help with understanding dynamics. Gaining positive attitudes from everyone
involved will show a growth in skill relationship between the teammates, also the positive attitude will
make practices, games, and constructive criticism easier to come by. Having patients with the less
skilled is something that every coach needs to have. Individual athletes look to coaches for leadership
and encouragement beyond the sports environment, and this also carries over to athletic performance.
According to Athletic Insight, the relationship between a coach and a student athlete determines
overall motivation and stress levels (Leadership and Individual Performance). From personal
experience, when I had gotten along with a coach, and they were easy to talk to, the practices were
more fun to go to, the games were easier and all the players played as one unit. Getting constructive
criticism was easy to take and I became very coachable. The coach has more responsibilities than just
holding a practice, game, having a plan to the game or practice, but also bringing a friendly and easy
environment to be involved in. Coaches can push the psychological, emotional, and physical limits of
their players to the point of harm, create

The Pros And Cons Of RFK Stadiums
With the NFL officially coming back to Los Angeles next season, the league and two teams are
certainly excited over the developments. Unfortunately, the fate of three teams hung in the balance
with this move. For the once again L.A. Rams, their future in the Golden State is secure. But for the
San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders, some details still remain in the air. If the dust settles as
expected, the Chargers will join the Rams in the dual stadium at the conclusion of the 2016 2017
season. However, if the tide turns the Raiders could find themselves moving from the Bay Area. If
Oakland does lose its football team, the biggest winner could end up being the Oakland A s. The
reason is because Oakland is the last of America s former infatuation with multi purpose stadiums.
Starting with Washington D.C. s RFK Stadium through countless other cities and purposes, dual sports
stadiums dominated the 60s and 70s. As decades moved along, though, the trend began to die as each

Korsgaard Intentionality
In Morality and the Distinctiveness of Human Action , Korsgaard does not agree with the veneer
theory and proposes that human beings are originally acquisitive, but they become moral beings
through the process of living and growing up under the circumstance of society. In this paper, I will
defend this argument. I will first explain in detail what self government is and why it is the most
important to human morality. Then I address two opposing arguments. The first one challenges the
theory of deepest level of intentionality , and the second one used the example of children to attack the
self government theory. I will point out the weaknesses of these arguments to show the validity of
Korsgaard s theory.

They claim that her argument fails to explain the case of children, who are not completely, but only
partially responsible for their behaviours and actions. In this case when children might do wrong and
held not responsible for their action since they are underaged, we could not draw the conclusion that
all human beings have the capacity for self government. However, I do not agree with this view.
Admittingly children do have limited responsibility, and people hold more lenient standard when
judging their behaviours, it does not imply children, as a subgroup of human beings, does not have the
capacity for self government or deepest level of intentionality. For grown ups, the reason why we
believe they have the deepest level of intentionality is because, they have the ability to adopt their
purposes. Adopting their purposes requires human beings to judge the person will need to judge which
purpose is morally justifiable, despite there is a urgent and strong affective state affecting his emotions
and feelings. The ability to judge plays a significant role in the self government process. However, it
should be noted that, such ability is gained through the process of growing under the context of
society, learning what is moral and immoral, acquiring skills of judging rights and wrongs by
observing the society around us and interacting with other human beings. It is trained from the

considered offensive in foreign countries. Weird right? Wow, I could get into a lot of trouble in

William Osler once said Medicine is the science of uncertainty and the art of probability. While this

Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures by Vincent Lam, this quote is shown to not only be true in regards
to medicine, but also for people as a whole; even so there are many factors that contribute to a person

these factors is the amount of interaction and influence a person s family has with them. In

Irish Immigrants in Boston Essay
Irish Immigrants in Boston
The life of Irish immigrants in Boston was one of poverty and discrimination. The religiously centered
culture of the Irish has along with their importance on family has allowed the Irish to prosper and
persevere through times of injustice. Boston s Irish immigrant population amounted to a tenth of its
population. Many after arriving could not find suitable jobs and ended up living where earlier
generations had resided. This attributed to the invisibility of the Irish. Much of the very early
migration had been heavily male, but during the famine years, migration was largely a family affair.

One leading Irish American politician, John Mitchel, wrote in his newspaper, The Citizen in 1856:
He would be a bad Irishman who voted for principles which jeopardized the present freedom of a
nation of white men, for the vague forlorn hope of elevating blacks to a level for which it is at least
problematical whether God and nature ever intended them.
So the Irish tended to be in favor of slavery and against abolition. This was just another reason why
many of the people around them did not get along with them, this in turn probably making their lives
harder and less enjoyable. However, at the outbreak of the Civil War an estimated 170,000 men born
in Ireland joined the Union Army, but only about 40,000 were in the Confederate Army. This occurred
because the issue for the Irish was not so much slavery as it was preserving the Union. The church in
Boston agreed with Archbishop Hughes that ?It is one country and shall be one?.
After the Civil War, attitudes toward the Irish shifted slightly, and the Irish Need Not Apply signs on

my case. Yet, the decision was already taken and all of the executive members agreed that giving the
position to a male gender was the right choice.
At that moment, I was almost paralyzed. I could not believe what I was living. I kept asking myself
that the United States was a free country and all its citizens have the same rights of freedom and
equality. Not only I felt totally frustrated and disillusioned because I did not get the promotion, but
also because I understood that it was not fair what this people were doing with me. In fact, I realized
that I was a vivid example of one or maybe two types of discrimination factors such as gender and
age.
I could not accept the fact that I was discriminated for being a young woman, and not because of my
competency for the position. My reaction to this episode was not smart. Although once I thought about
the idea of suing the company for discrimination, later I though it was ridiculous because I knew that I
was going to waste time, money and I was not ready for something like that. Today, I think differently.
I regret for not suing them. From that moment and on, I decided to start looking for another job
because I acknowledged that it was impossible to think about getting promoted to a high level position
in that company.
It has been almost one year, and I still remember the conversation that I had with those men, who were

Alternative Dispute Resolution, Or Adr
Alternative Dispute Resolution, or ADR is the phrase used to describe the different methods of ways
to resolve legal disputes outside of the court system. There are many advantages and disadvantages to
it, and they come in many different forms in England and Wales. These include administrative
tribunals, arbitration, mediation, adjudication, conciliation, negotiation, expert determination and the
ombudsmen services.
Administrative Tribunals come in many different forms and can cover many areas including
employment tribunals, lands tribunals and rent tribunals. The most common one being employment
tribunals. The distinction between Tribunals and the Courts have sometimes be blurred because it has
long been held that tribunals are just an administrative extension to the Court system and therefore
some argue that Tribunals are not a separate entity, There is some debate as to whether tribunals are
merely part of the machinery of administration of particular projects or whether their function is the
distinct one of adjudication, 1 However the main difference between tribunals and the courts is that
tribunals are much more specialised in nature, coming in many forms, some of which are stated above.
Administrative tribunals are also not staffed by judges, and are staffed be specialists in the particular
field in which the administrative tribunal is being held. For example, an employment tribunal would
be chaired by a panel of people who specialise in employment law.

Feminism And The Feminist Movement
Feminism is a movement that I have never really claimed myself to be a part. I have nothing against
those who want to stand for what they believe in, but I think there s a way it should be done.
Feminism is something that I have questioned a lot and have looked into. I am completely for women
feeling empowered; however, I find many things that I disagree with when it comes to the feminist
movement. I ve listed five of them:
1. Feminists tend to paint the picture like men are the only problem. It seems as if it s easier to put the
blame on men. Why do we have to bash men who are doing their jobs? As women, we find it
disrespectful when men use derogatory terms towards us; however, it s okay for women to use the
same derogatory terms. In my opinion, it s not okay. Feminists also seem to see one side to certain
issues. For example, feminists do not see men as being victims of domestic violence. Men are not
always the abusers and I think that is is very reactionary to have this belief. Why is that if a woman
does this action then there is a reason that follows. It doesn t make it right and this makes feminists
come across as being hypocritical. You have men who do the right thing and they are degraded. Do
you honestly want the responsibility of a man?
2. When it comes to oppression we haven t necessarily faced oppression like women in other
countries. We can complain about the job market and how we should get certain pay and jobs, but
there are women dealing with far worse

The Field Of Critical Care
Introduction
The field of critical care is rapidly changing. It is important for anesthesiologists be knowledgeable of
these changes for providing care to critically ill patients in the perioperative period. The purpose of
this chapter is to provide update for clinicians on ICU issues relevant to clinical practice. Topics which
will be discussed include: modes of mechanical ventilation, renal replacement therapy, antibiotic
prophylaxis, nutritional support, sedation management, transport and transfer of care.
I. Modes of Mechanical Ventilation
Introduction
Most patients undergoing general anesthesia for surgical procedures require mechanical ventilation.
One of the biggest challenges facing clinicians providing mechanical ventilatory support today is
managing the balance between providing adequate gas exchange and avoiding lung injury associated
with positive pressure ventilation. Patients with respiratory failure need adequate tissue oxygenation
and acid base balance; however, the lungs are fragile structures that can be injured by over distension,
alveolar collapse and reopening, and high oxygen exposure. This challenge in providing lung
protective ventilation is made more difficult by the fact that lung injury is often heterogeneous and
thus what may benefit gas exchange in one region (e.g., higher pressure) may worsen injury in
another.
Modern anesthesia ventilators are becoming increasingly sophisticated provide high performances in
delivering accurately and

The Formicarius ( Ant Hill ) Of Johannes Nider
The Formicarius (Ant Hill) of Johannes Nider, written in Latin in the 1430 s, tells about activities in
the Bernese Alps and other territories, based mainly on testimony Nider had obtained from a secular
judge from Bern and from an inquisitor. (Levack, 2013) Nider also received testimony from a man
from the Bernese territory who went by the name of Peter, a Benedictine monk, and an inquisitor from
the convent at Lyons. Nider states that the judge from Bern told him stories about the torture of
alleged witches and the confessions that some of them made at their trials, as well as details from
various trials that presided over. Peter told Nider stories of when he not only drove suspected witches
out of Bernese, but also of when he burned many of them as their punishment for being labeled as a
witch.
This text also goes on to state that Nider also met a Benedictine monk who, many years before their
introduction, acted as a necromancer, juggler, buffoon, and strolling player, well known as an expert
among the secular nobility. (Internet History Sourcebooks Project) The most interesting story in the
text however, is the recount of another young man, who was arrested and eventually burned after
being found guilty of being a witch. This man and wife, who was also a witch, were previously
arrested but had escaped confinement from Peter. Their escape only further solidified the belief that
they were in fact witches and they were eventually arrested again and brought back

Mental illness can affect the individual s relationships, their work, and their quality of life. Having a
mental illness is difļ¬cult, not only for the person concerned, but also for their family and friends.
Mental disorders can affect anyone of any age.

a, mentally well, person?
What are mental health and mental illness ?
Mental illness is very common. According to MIND (2009), a mental health charity, about one in four
people in Britain will receive this diagnosis at some point in their life. At any one time up to one in six
people have a mental health problem (Department for Health, 2011). Despite this, there is a great deal
of controversy about what mental illness is, what causes it, and how people can be helped to recover
from it. People who are experiencing mental or emotional distress are often very reluctant to see their
experiences as mental illness and

History And Background Of Chinese Cuisine
History/ Background
Chinese is one of the oldest cultures in the world. The Xia dynasty is known as the first to rule the
entire China in 2070 BC. Therefore, along with the time, there have been many changes in the history
of Chinese cuisine. Dim Sum is related with the term yum cha , which means to drink tea . This is
started at around hundreds years ago, in Canton (Guangdong Province), when the travellers on the
ancient Silk Road took some rest in the middle of their journey, and they usually had some tea and
meals. However, it is said that people could gain excessive weight by consuming food while drinking
tea. Then the idea to serve some snacks or small bites food was created by the teahouse owner, and
that was the beginning of dim sum.
There are various types of dim sum, approximately around 2000 of them since the 10th century, but
there are only 100 kinds that we can find in dim sum restaurant nowadays. Although dim sum was
originated in Guangdong Province (Canton), it is also very popular in Hong Kong. It is even said that
Hong Kong provides better dim sum and more popular. Dim sum usually sold between 6.30am until
afternoon, and served for breakfast to brunch. However, since there is a lot of variety of dim sum
dishes, each of the food has its own history, as China is a very large nation with old culture and
history.
Contemporary Uses Production Methods and Techniques
There are many ways to cook dim sum, which mostly done by steaming, as the Chinese people

The Immigration Problem Of Immigration
Since the 1970 s, the distinction between criminal law and immigration law has become increasingly
blurred. In many jurisdictions around the world, undocumented immigration was long considered a
civil offence in which violation resulted in fines and deportation. Now, however, illegal crossings are
often treated as criminal violations carrying overly punitive consequences such as incarceration in
harsh detention centers. The ever evolving assortment of laws and enforcement measures concerning
immigration, as well as negative rhetoric in politics and media, has resulted in migrants being ascribed
the stigma of criminal , alien or terrorist . This paper will explore the criminalization of immigration
phenomenon broadly by detailing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, our social reality is influenced by the state constructed definition of what is crime which
often reflects the values of the upper class (Persak, 2016). For example, the trend seen in many cities
in the United States of criminalizing homelessness through so called get tough policies reflects the
upper classes desire for public health and safety, protection of economic interests in business districts
and the maintenance of city aesthetic. Although, these policies do not address the causes of
homelessness rather they exacerbate the problem and violate the liberties and human rights of citizens
(Foscarinis, Cunningham Bowers Brown, 1999). Criminalization is perhaps the most repressive and
intrusive applications of state power on a citizen and is often implemented, as is the case with the
homeless, to target the less desirable social groups (Persak, 2016). Moreover, while formal
criminalization in the form of legislation and criminal consequences for infringement works as a
social control, it is not the only form of criminalization that occurs. Informal criminalization may in
some cases be a more effective form of social control and ultimately lead to formal criminalization of
behavior or come as a result of formal legislation. As stated by Hauptman (2013), informal social
control measures are any social influences on compliance not

I Was A Warehouse Wage Slave By Mac Mcclelland
The American Dream has been drilled into the heads of almost all Americans and quite a few
foreigners. The idea is that Every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and
prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative . The most common misconception
foreigners have about America, is that the streets are paved with gold and poverty does not exist, when
in reality the streets are not paved at all. As an American citizen, I cannot full heartedly believe that
people are determined by the country they were born into because I believe that if someone is
determined enough to succeed, such a person will. Living in a third world country undoubtedly has its
setbacks but it is not a set determination of one s fate. The essay, I Was a Warehouse Wage Slave by
Mac McClelland fully supports the idea that people have to fight for what they desire in life, while the
other essay s My Summer at an Indian Call Center by Andrew Maran, and, The New Mecca by
George Saunders suggest that success is determined by place of birth. Although the essays disagree
about the foundation of success, they have many similarities regarding how people s identities are
affected by demanding jobs. All three essays demonstrate that the workers identities are distorted
because they are forced to sacrifice their own wants and needs, and to adopt an identity according to
their companies preference, so that the shoppers, tourist etc. will be satisfied with the customer service

  • 2. Greek Mental Illness History The history of psychopathology goes back hundreds of centuries in the past. The history of psychopathology goes along with social and medical history. Throughout history we can see that mental health has evolved in the way we conceive it. Also, through history, we understand why the mentally ill have been tortured, or protected, and this will depend on the perspective of the human being at that particular time. Mentally ill people in prehistoric times were seen as if evil spirits possess them, so the exorcism and spells applications were the ways to treat their condition. Today mental illness is treated scientifically and as human disease and not as in ancient times that was awarded to supernatural powers. Primitive Cultures 10,000 BC In ... As the couple was into their second nuptial relationship, they both had children from their previous marriage George, Gerald and Stella from Julia s; Laura from Leslie s. Julian and Adrian were sent to Cambridge for seeking education while Virginia was not. Leslie taught her at home and encouraged her to read more and more. As a child, she was sexually abused by her half brothers, George and Gerald. This has been unravelled from her autobiographical works, A Sketch of the Past and 22 Hyde Park Gate. The visits of renowned literary figures, fellows from Cambridge, and books from the family s well stacked library gave her an intellectual bent of mind. Her mother s death in 1895 led to her first nervous breakdown and caused anorexia in her. Her education was halted for two years after Julia s death because her doctor believed that her brain was using up all essential nutrients and making her lean and sickly. However, she continued on with her books. Between 1897 and 1901, she studied Greek, German, History and Latin in King s College London. • 4. Cons Of Rail Transport II. Pros and cons of using Rail/risks and benefits of using Rail There are several pros and cons to any mode of transportation. These pros and cons include cost, efficiency, and responsiveness. The goal is to find the most appropriate mode of transportation for the type, amount, and destination of cargo. There will be different needs for every product, origin, destination, and organization. First on the list is cost. Cost of transportation is one of the major considerations involved in a successful supply chain. Fortunately, in this department rail is one of the best performers. Rail is known for being a relatively inexpensive mode of transporting large amounts of overland cargo. In fact, The price structure and heavy load capability ... On the other hand, if the organization were able to ship their goods by truck, then they would have the option of either operating an in house fleet or outsourcing their transportation needs. When comparing rail to tucking it is important to keep some things in mind. In the early days, the choice of rail vs truck was easy because by the time that transportation by tuck came about rail transportation had been around for a long time. In addition, the adoption of motor cars also proved to be more gradual than that of passenger trains, the result of primitive technologies, high costs, and poor roads (GRANT, 2012, p. 248). This further added to the dominance of rail. In defense of trucking it can hall large amounts of cargo over long distances. In addition, it can do so with a reasonably high degree of responsiveness. However, the amount of cargo that rail can hall is considerably larger than that of trucking. The responsiveness of trucking also comes at a higher cost then rail. Trucking is more suited to haling more expensive goods that require higher responsiveness. However, in other parts of the world where the rail infrastructure is more developed or more suitable for transporting cargo this may not be an option. Perhaps the best use of both rail and truck is in combination through intermodal transportation. This method makes use of one or more transportation methods in order to achieve to achieve the best mix of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This process provides the ability to evaluate program effectiveness, to identify significant objectives and to organize objectives in hierarchical form (Kettner, et. al, 2013). The hypothesis then gets translated into goals and objectives that provide a framework for action, a general direction for the program, a timeframe, details tasks, and clearly states program expectations, which then provides a foundation for monitoring, performance measurement, and evaluation (Kettner, et. al, 2013). Alongside process objectives are specific activities that detail tasks for program implementation (Kettner, et. al, 2013).The five components of objectives are: time frame, identification of the target of the change, the results or outcomes to be achieved, the criteria by which the results will be documented, monitored, or measured, and notification of who is responsible for implementing and measuring the achievement of the objective (Kettner, et. al, 2013). Activities establish the implementation plan clearly, include deadlines, and delegate responsibility. • 10. Agency Theory Essay QUESTION 1 (i) AGENCY COSTS IN DEBT CONTRACTING The agency theory examines the relationship between the principle and agent under the assumption that that individuals act in their own self interest in order to maximise their personal wealth. This conflict of interest creates agency costs that are borne by the principle. The agency problem is apparent in debt contacting relationships where the firm is assumed to be acting in the interests of its shareholders when borrowing money from the debt holders. Agency costs are incurred by the debt holder when a firm engages in opportunistic behaviours in an attempt to expropriate wealth away from its debt holder. As a result, the debt holder faces an increased risk of lending the funds to the firm. There are four common opportunistic actions that firm can take in order to expropriate wealth from its debt holder PAY EXCESSIVE DIVIDENDS Black (as cited in Smith and Warner, 1979) states that there is no easier way for a company to escape the burden of debt than to pay out all of its assets in the form of dividend, and leave the creditors holding an empty shell . In this situation, the firm promises the debt holder to maintain a consistent dividend policy at the time of borrowing funds but later increases the rate of dividends. According to Smith and Warner (1979), the increase in dividend policy reduces the value of the debt and ultimately, increases the risk to the debt holders. • 24. Organelles In Animal Cells Essay Organelles are the internal structures of the cell that are important for the cell to survive. Each organelle has a specific function for the cell. The types of organelles in the cell can be different from each other depending on the type of cell. Plant cells and animal cells both have a cytoskeleton, endoplasmic reticulum (smooth and rough), golgi apparatus, mitochondrion, nucleus, plasma membrane, and ribosomes. Animal and plant cells also have vacuoles, but they are rarely found in animal cells. Vacuoles in animal cells are very small compared to the vacuoles in plant cells. Lysosomes are also rarely found in plant cells but mostly found in animal cells. The cytoplasm is a semifluid in the plasma membrane. It is in all eukaryotic cells. In prokaryotes, this is where the chemical processes of the cell take place. In eukaryotic cells, this is where organelles perform their functions. Cellular respiration also takes place here. One of stages of cellular respiration is glycolysis. Glycolysis is when glucose breaks down to form two pyruvates and 4 ATP. Its net result of 2 ATP is important for another process called the Krebs Cycle. This process is important because it begins cellular respiration. The cytoplasm also gives the cell its shape; without it, the cell would be deflated and substances would not be able to move throughout the cell. Organelles would have difficulty functioning too. In a society with so many people, and an ever growing population, resources need to be saved and used sparingly. Waste reduction is a method of managing the waste created and how it is disposed of. Waste reduction means that less waste is produced, which equals less waste removal costs, and helps keep the environment clean. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Granulators are similar to grinders, but they take already reduced pieces of material and make the pieces even smaller, allowing recycling these once large pieces of wood to be a lot easier. A more unique method is to use a compactor which compresses waste so that the waste takes up a smaller area, and therefore, less space. Compactors are used at recycling centers and junkyards to reduce the area that solid waste takes up. The idea of waste reduction began long before modern machines were put to use. In 1908, A.A. Low created the first paper shredder: the Waste Paper Receptacle but was never put to commercial manufacturing because he never had the incentive to do so. Rebellion in Fight Club and One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest Rebellion in Fight Club and One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest All societies have a basic structure, and in order to function well with others, a person must conform to the laws and regulations of said society. In the novels Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk and One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest by Ken Kesey, a variety of themes are discussed, with the major theme being rebellion. The main characters of both these novels struggle with the established structure they are living in and are unwilling to conform to its rules. They both rebel by openly defying laws, and disobeying authoritative figures. The novels main characters are furthermore comparable because they not only rebel but also guide others to do the same. When the two station attendants try to exploit the men, McMurphy helps them gain the upper hand by posing as criminally insane (Fick). Even though the patients become men , adult sexuality is conspicuously absent from the novel. It is mainly the men s cause to remain boys on their own terms (Fick par. 8). McMurphy s women are boys companions. Candy and Sandy are good bad girls. McMurphy s sexuality complements a personal consistency that obliterates the distinction between past and present. Returning from the fishing trip, for example, he stops by his childhood house and tells the men of his own sexual initiation (Fick par. 9). The rebellion in both novels is also caused by a sense of monotony. The narrator in Fight Club is discontent with his lackluster life; he is so into his material possessions that he creates an alter ego who destroys them all. I hated my life. I was tired and bored with my job and my furniture, and I couldn t see any way to change things (Palahniuk 172). It is only after he gets rid of everything and stops leading a consumerist lifestyle that he is finally free. The tedium in the ward drives McMurphy to rebel, much like the narrator in Fight Club. He feels bored with everyday life and with following the rules; he wants more. The theme that raises questions in both novels is insanity; Tyler Durden is the narrator s alter ego ... Discussion On An Instructional Method Discussion as an Instructional Method I would use discussion as an instructional method because it is a great interactive learning tool and facilitates listening, teamwork, confidence, critical thinking, critical listening and critical reading. Moreover, classroom discussions can help students sharpen their communication and speaking skills. Classroom discussion helps to dispel myths and preconceived prejudices about others and students tend to develop mutual respect for one and others. Above all, discussions foster better understanding as students share their take on the subject, additional knowledge is shared. Hence, discussions require keen listening skills. I would say from my personal experience, classroom discussions opened up my own understanding of many subjects and helped me to navigate toward right thinking. The best way to express my love of this teaching method is to tell the story of how much I hated it when I started Mercer University. My second semester at Mercer, I had surgery and had to take two online classes. This was when I was first introduced to the discussion method. As with most things new, it was frustrating. It grew more challenging because the responses that I had to reply to did not make sense 80% of the time. Many of the students did not write very well and we were required to respond. It was extremely difficult to respond to something that did not make sense. So, I became a critical reader. I made sense out of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The thought or the motion to entertain that humans evolved from primates is what some people would shudder and state that it goes against all their religious beliefs. However, scientist have pushed on the fact that evolution is not just a hypothetical or an outlandish theory but a theory that has multiple hard evidence to back it and that to ignore is ignorance and just plain stupidity. Four types of evidence of evolution are fossil records, genetic changes, the geographic distribution of species, and the similarities in embryos of species. One of the evidences of evolution is fossil records, with fossil records being the remains of plants and animals that scientist have found in sedimentary rocks. Fossil records have given us irrefutable evidence of evolution in the past, over a course of a long period of time, proving there is significant variation amongst living things. Evolution is a continuum; all the minor changes over a period of time add up to a major change. On the continuum, fossils are the points that displaying what the organism had become after evolving at that stage in time. Secondly, the most important role of a coach is to be the role model for his/her players and to be able to have patients and be forthright more often then not. A great place to start coaching is by understanding the dynamics of the team. This is the process of figuring out how team members relate to one another (Understand Team Dynamics). Forming positive relationships with the players and also, the parents to acquire trust and assure the players a comfortable environment would help with understanding dynamics. Gaining positive attitudes from everyone involved will show a growth in skill relationship between the teammates, also the positive attitude will make practices, games, and constructive criticism easier to come by. Having patients with the less skilled is something that every coach needs to have. Individual athletes look to coaches for leadership and encouragement beyond the sports environment, and this also carries over to athletic performance. In this case when children might do wrong and held not responsible for their action since they are underaged, we could not draw the conclusion that all human beings have the capacity for self government. However, I do not agree with this view. Admittingly children do have limited responsibility, and people hold more lenient standard when judging their behaviours, it does not imply children, as a subgroup of human beings, does not have the capacity for self government or deepest level of intentionality. For grown ups, the reason why we believe they have the deepest level of intentionality is because, they have the ability to adopt their purposes. Adopting their purposes requires human beings to judge the person will need to judge which purpose is morally justifiable, despite there is a urgent and strong affective state affecting his emotions and feelings. So the Irish tended to be in favor of slavery and against abolition. This was just another reason why many of the people around them did not get along with them, this in turn probably making their lives harder and less enjoyable. However, at the outbreak of the Civil War an estimated 170,000 men born in Ireland joined the Union Army, but only about 40,000 were in the Confederate Army. I have nothing against those who want to stand for what they believe in, but I think there s a way it should be done. Feminism is something that I have questioned a lot and have looked into. I am completely for women feeling empowered; however, I find many things that I disagree with when it comes to the feminist movement. I ve listed five of them: 1. Feminists tend to paint the picture like men are the only problem. It seems as if it s easier to put the blame on men. Why do we have to bash men who are doing their jobs? As women, we find it disrespectful when men use derogatory terms towards us; however, it s okay for women to use the same derogatory terms. In my opinion, it s not okay. Feminists also seem to see one side to certain issues. For example, feminists do not see men as being victims of domestic violence. Men are not always the abusers and I think that is is very reactionary to have this belief. Why is that if a woman does this action then there is a reason that follows. It doesn t make it right and this makes feminists come across as being hypocritical. You have men who do the right thing and they are degraded. Do you honestly want the responsibility of a man? 2. One of the biggest challenges facing clinicians providing mechanical ventilatory support today is managing the balance between providing adequate gas exchange and avoiding lung injury associated with positive pressure ventilation. Patients with respiratory failure need adequate tissue oxygenation and acid base balance; however, the lungs are fragile structures that can be injured by over distension, alveolar collapse and reopening, and high oxygen exposure. This challenge in providing lung protective ventilation is made more difficult by the fact that lung injury is often heterogeneous and thus what may benefit gas exchange in one region (e.g., higher pressure) may worsen injury in another. The Formicarius ( Ant Hill ) Of Johannes Nider The Formicarius (Ant Hill) of Johannes Nider, written in Latin in the 1430 s, tells about activities in the Bernese Alps and other territories, based mainly on testimony Nider had obtained from a secular judge from Bern and from an inquisitor. (Levack, 2013) Nider also received testimony from a man from the Bernese territory who went by the name of Peter, a Benedictine monk, and an inquisitor from the convent at Lyons. Nider states that the judge from Bern told him stories about the torture of alleged witches and the confessions that some of them made at their trials, as well as details from various trials that presided over. Peter told Nider stories of when he not only drove suspected witches out of Bernese, but also of when he burned many of them as their punishment for being labeled as a witch. This text also goes on to state that Nider also met a Benedictine monk who, many years before their introduction, acted as a necromancer, juggler, buffoon, and strolling player, well known as an expert among the secular nobility. (Internet History Sourcebooks Project) The most interesting story in the text however, is the recount of another young man, who was arrested and eventually burned after being found guilty of being a witch. • 47. The Immigration Problem Of Immigration Since the 1970 s, the distinction between criminal law and immigration law has become increasingly blurred. In many jurisdictions around the world, undocumented immigration was long considered a civil offence in which violation resulted in fines and deportation. Now, however, illegal crossings are often treated as criminal violations carrying overly punitive consequences such as incarceration in harsh detention centers. Essentially, our social reality is influenced by the state constructed definition of what is crime which often reflects the values of the upper class (Persak, 2016). For example, the trend seen in many cities in the United States of criminalizing homelessness through so called get tough policies reflects the upper classes desire for public health and safety, protection of economic interests in business districts and the maintenance of city aesthetic. Although, these policies do not address the causes of homelessness rather they exacerbate the problem and violate the liberties and human rights of citizens (Foscarinis, Cunningham Bowers Brown, 1999). The idea is that Every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative . The most common misconception foreigners have about America, is that the streets are paved with gold and poverty does not exist, when in reality the streets are not paved at all. As an American citizen, I cannot full heartedly believe that people are determined by the country they were born into because I believe that if someone is determined enough to succeed, such a person will. Living in a third world country undoubtedly has its setbacks but it is not a set determination of one s fate. The essay, I Was a Warehouse Wage Slave by Mac McClelland fully supports the idea that people have to fight for what they desire in life, while the other essay s My Summer at an Indian Call Center by Andrew Maran, and, The New Mecca by George Saunders suggest that success is determined by place of birth. Although the essays disagree about the foundation of success, they have many similarities regarding how people s identities are affected by demanding jobs. All three essays demonstrate that the workers identities are distorted because they are forced to sacrifice their own wants and needs, and to adopt an identity according to their companies preference, so that the shoppers, tourist etc. will be satisfied with the customer service ...
