Tilted Arc
The Destruction of Public Art Tilted Arc (Figure 1) was brought down on the 15th of March of 1989
by the General Services Administration (GSA) in the centre of New York s federal plaza. Tilted Arc
was a site specific work of a curved steel wall or barrier, that was 120 feet long and 12 feet high, with
an arch that gave the effect of the wall leaning inwards. The GSA commissioned Richard Serra to
build a sculpture for the Art in Architecture program that would be placed in the plaza in front of the
Jacob K Davits Federal building. The work was set up in 1981 and received a few critical comments.
However, it was only when William Diamond, an appointee GSA New York Regional Administrator,
started to investigate a bit more that he created substantial arguments against the sculpture to try and
relocate it. Tilted Arc then became a controversial piece of work that involved the art world and major
associations and resulted in a lawsuit and public hearing in 1985. The main issues that surrounded the
controversy relate to the way in which the space was transformed, the rights of the artist, and
censorship. In addition, we must question the role of public art in society, if certain works should be
considered public art, and the ways in which power and politics can influence the arts. Richard Serra

experience of seeing public art is different as the setting of a work can change the perception of the
spectator. Thus by moving public art into a museum, it would eliminate the material use of street and
change their purpose. When talking about Tilted Arc he argues that the public space is internal to its
meaning, this would change the meaning and the art. The following quote by Richard Serra was said

Hills Like White Elephants, By Ernest Hemmingway
In the story Hills Like White Elephants, Ernest Hemmingway allows a superficial plot to symbolically
display a conflict between choice of destination as a couple s discussion between train rides. The
layers of description and dialog manipulate a small moment of time and demonstrate that a human
choice can range while perspective shifts the understood potential of the landscape. By crafting an
intricate story that is filled with symbolism and overlapping complexities, Hemmingway provides a
sophisticated short story that exposes the feelings behind controversial life choices. The story begins
by introducing the side of the valley with no shade and no trees, a forty minute wait time, and the
couple in Spain. The two are described at first as an American and a ... Show more content on

feels fine because pregnancy isn t some problem that needs an abortion to remedy it. Through the
numerous details, Hemmingway creates a short story that reflects the opinions of two very different
opinions. In one case, change is something that is desired, yet in the same relationship, change can be
too consequential to readily accept. The differing nature scenes and the descriptions of characters
created a duality while the setting facilitated symbolism. Overall, the implementation of many factors

Tap Dance History
After hundreds of years of evolution and development, tap dancing has become a truly authentic
American artform. However, no two people can agree on exactly how or where the discipline began.
Emmy award winning tapper Jason Samuel Smith still holds an enormous amount of respect for the
history of his artform. Tap culture is all about celebrating the past and accumulating its vocabulary
over time, he says. If we don t maintain our history, we lose what is valuable about tap. Despite the
questionable and often debated origin of tap, the discipline stems directly from African roots due to
articulate rhythmic and stylistic patterns of African dance, techniques consisting of gliding, shuffling
and dragging steps, and the introduction of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Drummers collaborated with the dancers in such a way that they were able to communicate with each
other through different rhythms and changes in pitch and tone. African dances were extremely
sophisticated, both stylistically and rhythmically. The rhythmical elements of the dances conveyed
conventional rhythms found in various nature patterns. More often than not, these dances were very
repetitive, much like the cycles of life(Knowles). It was this conversational exchange between drums
and feet, drummers and dancers, that evolved into tap. Time step, a basic tap step, was based on
asymmetrical balance, an important aspect to African expression. It includes six measures of repetitive
rhythmic phrasing, along with two measures of rhythm breaks. Often times, the swaying motion used
tended to cause the accented steps to fall on the second and fourth beats of a sequence. Through their
steady patterns of assimilation, imitation, and transformation, tap was created(Source 17).
A common theme to their dances was society s affinity with the Earth. The most common step in
African dancing, which would later become the most basic step in tap dancing, was an example of this
symbiotic relationship. In order to stay connected with the power of the Earth, dancers would keep
their feet close to the dirt. Flatfootedness created steps that consisted of dragging, gliding, and
shuffling step(Knowles). Today s tap clearly resembles African dance because it often utilizes drags,
slides, and

John Holland s Typology Paper
Holland s Typology In the beginning, career counseling was strictly developed to help with job
placement, but it became so much more than that after the career development was further researched
by a group of theorist that focused on career process. What is it that drives us to choose a specific
career path? According to Zunker (2012), different theorists such as Parsons, Holland, Krumboltz,
Bandura, Super, and Gottfredson all developed theories on career development and their perspective
on the importance of occupational process. Throughout this paper one will discuss the John Holland s
Typology and the significance of this particular career theory. Some of the points that will be covered
in this paper include: history of theory, strengths and weaknesses, assessments used, population best

Explanation and History John Holland was a remarkable psychologist that took special interest in
career choice and personality traits. Holland s career counseling perspective started while studying at
the University of Minnesota for graduate school in counseling. In graduate school, was when he
discovered that people express personality in various ways (Nauta, 2010, p.12). He expressed that
personality and career interests work together somehow (Nauta, 2010). The John Holland s Typology
is the concept that one chooses a career to satisfy one s preferred modal personal orientation (Zunker,
2012, p. 27). He made two major points about how people are influenced for a career choice. The first
point was that people search for an environment that they can utilize their skills and abilities, and
reveal their values and attitudes in the most influential way. The second point was that a person s

What Are The Decline Of Disney Channel Tv Pros And Cons
It is 4 in the afternoon, around the time when most students get out of school. They jump off the bus,
eager to get home. Taking a pit stop in the kitchen pantry, they grab for a snack and head on into their

What Role Do The Three Witches Play In Macbeth
The three witches are seen as the mischief making characters in Shakespeare s Macbeth. Macbeth and
Banquo first come into contact with the witches at a health near the Forres. The three witches then
proceeded into welcoming and hailing Macbeth after predicting he will become king chanting All hail,
Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Glamis! All hail, Macbeth, hail to thee, thane of Cawdor! All hail,
Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter . The prediction the three witches make about Macbeth
becoming king bring him an overwhelming feeling of joy and determination, from then on the three
witches gain control over Macbeth and take advantage of his innocent characteristics and consistently
manipulate him into conducting many crimes in which he commits. They always play a secondary role
in each of Macbeth s inferior actions. The three witches influence Macbeth s actions throughout the
play by constantly planting ideas into his head about becoming king and manipulate his thoughts, the

NCAA Football Playoff System
Thesis: The Bowl Championship Series (BCS) formula has been used to determine the top twenty five
teams in NCAA Division I college since 1998. Many think this system is inadequate and should be

Brad Edwards, a writer for ESPN.com, has this to say about the computer system: Though this may be
the weakest part of the (BCS) equation, it can still make a difference. Last year, pollsters eventually
overlooked Wisconsin s loss to Cincinnati, but the computers didn t. The result: the Badgers had an
average computer ranking of 7.71 despite ranking fourth in both polls. 7.71 is the average of where the
team is in the rankings among the top twenty five teams in the nation according to the seven
computers.
The second part of the Bowl Championship Series formula is the two polls. One comes from the
associated press and the other comes from coaches around the league. The Associated Press polls are
organized by a number of different newspapers, magazines, and media. While the NCAA football
coaches put together the Coaches poll. This is probably the most critical element of the four because it
has only two subsets (the media and coaches polls) to be averaged (Edwards). The polls are run
similarly to the computers; the two ranking are simply averaged together. The impact held by each
poll is greater than that of any one computer or any one opponent. It is no coincidence that the top two
poll teams have played for the national title in both years of the

This health insurance coverage program was designed to lower the costs of health care while
increasing the productivity and results seen by patients. Stipulations set forth with the Affordable Care
Act ensure that all Americans have the opportunity to receive health coverage. At the same time,
hospitals and doctors offices are expected to streamline their costs while continuing to provide above
average services. Doing these two things in combination allows public and private health insurance
systems to offer coverage to Americans at a reduced rate.
To facilitate the entire program, citizens are forced to either have health coverage of some sort, or
suffer a financial penalty. There are some exceptions

aspects that may contribute towards Belle s attitude of the restaurant service expectations. First, Belle

There are several factors which influence adequate service. These elements are perceived service
alternatives, situational factors, and predicted service. Perceived service alternatives are defined as
other providers from whom the customer can obtain service (Zeithaml et. al., 2013, p.59). If customers
have several service providers to select from, or if they can provide the service themselves, then their
levels of adequate service are greater than those who believe it is not possible to get superior service
in another place (p.59). Situational factors may be divided into two categories; uncontrollable
situational factors and personal situational factors. Uncontrollable situational factors are service
performance conditions that are beyond the service provider. For example, forces of nature such as a
tornado or hurricane may affect a service provider in certain geographic areas. Customers may be
more willing to accept a delay in service due to the effects if the natural disaster. Situational factors
often lower the level of adequate service, widening the zone of tolerance (Zeithaml et. al., 2013, p.61).
Personal situational factors are often short term factors which make customers aware of the need for
services. Emergency situations, such as a flat tire may in turn raise the level of adequate service
expectations, since the customer is looking for a prompt solution

Sky has established itself as the premier provider of content for families and dominated the living

sports programming and marketing. Currently BT s major investments have been into football and
boxing, two of the biggest sports in Britain.
Regarding football BT have recently attained the rights to both the Champions and Europa League s.
Whilst this is the case Sky must focus on its advertisement and marketing of the Premier League.

Globalization Makes Society Better
Globalization benefits society as a whole because it expands markets, increases profits, creates new
jobs and has also lifted people in poor countries out of poverty.
According to Robert O Brien and Marc Williams globalization in terms of liberalization is:
the removal of restrictions to cross border flows, such as the elimination of trade or investment
barriers (O Brien and Williams:27).
Globalization has also transformed the way the world is viewed today. As technology has improved
the production of goods are made faster and cheaper as well as the transportation of goods. As you can
see in the global division of labor, certain countries specialize in different things. For example, in the
automotive industry, different parts are made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the manufacturing and agriculture industry have declined in the United State due to
globalization, it has produced growth in other industries. Scheve and Slaughter also argue that the free
movement of trade and capital has also benefited countries such as China and India because it has
removed millions of people out of poverty. How is globalization bad? If markets are expanding, new
jobs are being created and people are being lifted off from poverty.
Globalization has also increased competition among countries by removing regulation laws that are
undermining corporations to increase profit as well the faster and cheaper production of goods. For
example, a country that has strict labor and environmental laws will engage a Multinational
Corporation to move to a country that have these laws set at a bare minimum; this is because they
want to gain as much profit as possible with low production costs. This is where the term race to the
bottom comes into play.
Spar and Yoffie define race to the bottom as
the progressive movement of capital and technology from countries with relatively high levels of
wages, taxation, and regulation to countries with relatively lower levels (Spar

Analysis Of Hypertext Transfer Protocol, Http
Hypertext Transfer Protocol, HTTP, is a primary standard which lays the foundation for which the
World Wide Web is built upon. HTTP s main purpose is to receive requests for and deliver content on
the Web. The Internet Engineering Task Force s, IETF, Request for Comments, RFC, 7230 describes
HTTP as .. a stateless application level protocol for distributed, collaborative, hypertext information
systems. (IETF 14). Overall it is essentially the main way of distributing web pages and is what the
http in the url of links stands for. HTTP s development began back in 1989 by a CERN, European
Nuclear Research Organization, known as Tim Berners Lee. Tim and his team had been developing a
new markup language known as HTML, another protocol that ... Show more content on

The protocol may be used for other applications as long as it is supported by both the client and server.
Typical connections work in a response / response format, where a client requests content from the
server and the server responds. For example you may type http://www.google.com/ and request a
webpage from the location google.com from a web server. The web server will see the request and
check to see if it has a webpage for that location and then send you a request with either the content
requests or an error code that let s you know that it does not have what you have asked for. To the
untrained eye, HTTP syntax may look rather complicated, but it is actually simple. There is a series of
request messages and response messages between the server and client where request methods are sent
and status codes are returned. A typical exchange has a client send a get method requesting content,
specifying the location, and stating which version HTTP the client is supporting. The response from
the server will return with what HTTP the server supports and a response code, which depends on
where the request is reasonable, or in other words if it has the content the client requests. A rough
example of this exchange is provided by the textbook, High Performance Browser Networking:

Essay on I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie Olsen
I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie Olsen is a depiction of a mother daughter relationship that lacks
involvement and warmth. The whole story composed of the mother s memory of her relationship with
her daughter, Emily. The memory was a painful one comprised mostly of the way the mother was
much less able to care for Emily. The forsaken of Emily demonstrates the importance of physical and
emotional support.
The mother was an invisible parent for Emily. Her reason for not being there for Emily was because
she was a young and distracted mother (Olsen 262). The real reason she was inattentive was because
she was inexperienced. She lacks the understanding of how essential it is to be there physically for
Emily. Emily needed her mother for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emotional support also plays an important role of Emily s well being. The idea mother suppose to
care, support, and value their children needs. Emily needed this nourishment. She needed her mother
to smile at her in order for her to feel a connection with the person that she supposed to be able to
depend on. Emily s mother did not know how to communicate with Emily. The mother daughter
relationship has an element of coldness, it lacks warmth. There were years she did not want me to
touch her (Olsen 262). Emily s mother inability to interact with her, leaves Emily unloved and in
return, she shall not express any love toward her mother. Emily s mother feels her wisdom came too
late (Olsen 262). With this thought in mind, Emily s mother shall never show communication or love
to Emily, therefore the relationship shall continue to be doomed.
Emily s mother felt like she was forced to neglect Emily. Her excuse was that the time was hard, it
was the age of depression, of war, of fear (Olsen 262). Although things were not under Emily s mother
s control, she takes responsibility anyway. In society, parents are thought to provide physical and
emotional support so that their children can advance through life with prosperity. This paper is the

Identity In Elie Wiesel s Nightwood
After reading Nightwood I have been radically altered. Not in the cliché sense where one comes from
reading a book and proclaims his or her life different, but altered in the sense where I have been forced
to confront the issue of my own identity through the text itself. The idea of the human condition which
Barnes explores in the novel brings up for me more questions than answers. Do we all suffer cruelly at
the hands of this abstract notion of love? Can we reconcile, within ourselves, the notions of love,
animalism, identity and sexuality (or other cultural difference) after they are marginalized into the
realm of other? How do we step outside of an ideology produced by the hierarchical formation and

Jeanette Winterson in her preface to Nightwood remarked The language [in Nightwood] is not about
conveying information; it is about conveying meaning. It is hard to disagree with Winterson,
especially taken in the context of Barnes not being able to communicate her feelings with people
directly; it makes sense that she would communicate her feelings indirectly via her writing. In my
attempts to explain Nightwood as a whole, that is its language, and the meaning that one can take from
such a book, I find what draws me to this piece of literature aside from its complexity and richness are
the way in which its characters, Felix Volkbein, Robin Vote, Dr. Matthew O Connor and Nora Flood
seek out one another in hopes that the one will fulfill the other s desire. For the analytical discussion
of the novel I would like to read the character Robin Vote, examine the locus of her abject, which is
that place where the meaning between Object and Subject collapses the construction of the I (read:

Examples Of Greediness In The Book Of Proverbs
Greediness
In the book of proverbs we are given advice to help us in our daily lives. An important theme in
proverbs is greediness. Greediness in this generation is very common especially in adolescents. Most
teenagers these days are more concerned about what s in the media and what the new trend is. For
example the hover boards, phone accessories, jewelry, lipsticks, makeup, etc. In our generation
everyone thinks that if you have the latest gadget or trend you are popular, but that is where everyone
misses the point. In reality none of these things matter, what really matters is your character, morality,
etc. It is more important to please God than your friends. In an episodes of Touched by an Angel , we
meet a character called EZ ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All a person should want and need is good character, morality, and a strong relationship with God.
This verse applies to me as a 7th grader because this year was filled with a lot of difficult situations
and a lot of temptations to sin. I learned that when I let myself in the gossip and all the middle school
drama I ended up losing because I didn t learn anything valuable and I could easily be blamed for
something I did not do. When I stopped paying attention to what was going on with people that didn t
concern me or affected my life I was better off because I was focused more on myself than other
people.
A proverb that relates to me as a seventh grader is , an inheritance gained hastily in the beginning will
not be blessed in the end . I refer to this verse throughout the week a lot because it has a lot of
meaning. For me it means that if I rush all my homework at once and I don t check it to make sure I
got anything wrong or something that I need to change, and I just get it all done in less then 15
minutes I m obviously going to get a bad grade because I didn t put any effort in to it. So everyday
when I m in a rush I take a moment and just due my

Hudson s Bay Business Analysis
Hudson s Bay has diversity of fancy housewares, clothing and shoes. The company has way more
expensive displays and products than Sears. In the Queen location at Toronto, there are specialty
stores such as Burberry boutique, Coach store, Fur salon and Top Shop/Top Man store, which is for
high and middle income class. The store carries many cosmetics and fragrance counters with popular
brands. There are about seven floors in the Hudson s Bay downtown Toronto out of which at least
three floors are only specialized for ladies wear. There is a huge section specified for Petite and Plus

They have stable revenue for women and men but the children department s sale has increased after
2007. Sear s clothing quality and prices are a little less than the Bay and this lets the lower income

hygiene products they estimated to account for 16% of total revenue of industry. Furniture and
household appliances has decreased sell but the store increased sell for toys and hobbies. Their video
games and children department per household always increase because they have a special price for
this product (Chris Clark, n.d). Sears does not get more revenue for jewelleries. The jewellery
department at sears is a lot less attractive with having older style units of shelves and decors and much
smaller jewellery selection than the Hudson s Bay. It also often carries less expensive and lower class
products that the Hudson s Bay. Sears has a general merchandise catalogue with over 1,400 catalogues

systems at catalogue pick up locations. Sadly, due to Sears s wrong marketing strategies, poor image
and careless customer service, the company s sells dropped significantly. This left the company no
choice but to reduce the number of stores. As a result, Sears had to close down many of its large stores

A Thirst For Evil In Cholly Breedlove
The thirst for evil that Cholly Breedlove obtains in his adolescent life at the hand of Blue Jack, and the
hatred towards women he gains in his teenage years from Darlene, come together later in his adult life,
and lead up to Cholly raping his daughter, Pecola. A thirst for evil held by Cholly Breedlove forms
when he and Blue Jack ate the heart of a watermelon at a Fourth of July picnic, at which Cholly
witnesses a demonic scene making Cholly prefer the devil over God. Cholly, sitting on the ground at
the picnic, looks up to a man holding a watermelon above his head, and thinks to himself, It must be
the devil who looks like that holding the world in his hands, ready to dash it to the ground and spill the
red guts so niggers could eat the sweet, warm insides. If the devil did look like that, Cholly preferred

the devilish figure holding the world in his hands , which means that it is the devil that rules the world,

The Woman In Black Analysis
How does the author make the first encounter with the Woman in Black particularly ominous?
The author, Susan Hill, makes the first encounter with the Woman in Black distinctly foreboding by
her use of description, sound and Mr Kipps s apparent innocence. The Woman in Black is described as
suffering from some terrible wasting disease which makes her skin only the thinnest layer of flesh [...]
strained across her bones . Immediately, the reader is given some clue about her health. It seems, from
the description, that she is on the verge of death. This association with death instantly makes the
representation of the Woman in Black creepier. Phrases like sunken back and gaunt with disease are
used to warn the reader and stop them pitying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most people tend to pray at funerals, particularly in the Victorian era when religion was a highly
significant part of people s lives. She is also quite late, arriving halfway to the end of it and then
disappearing before the cortège. There is also the obvious factor that it seemed particularly strange
that a woman who was perhaps only a short time away from her own death, should drag herself to the
funeral of another . To a reader, this seems decidedly minatory, since it is incredibly unlikely that
someone about to breathe their last would go to Mrs Drablow s burial, especially as Mrs Drablow was
known for having no close friends or family and the only other people at her funeral (besides the
Parson) were her solicitors. Lastly, on the off chance she just didn t have a prayer book and actually
was Mrs Drablow s long lost relative or forgotten friend, as Mr Kipps clearly believed, she
disappeared with a slight rustle of clothing . Finally, there is Mr Kipps s reaction to his first encounter
with the Woman in Black. Of course he didn t know she was the Woman in Black; instead he saw her
as a young woman who was about to die but kind enough to see her friend off. Indeed, he vowed to
speak to her [to see if he] could be of any assistance . Susan Hill makes him pity the Woman in Black,
yet warns the reader with short sentences like Nor did she look old , followed by abnormally long
sentences, joined together with three or four commas, as if contradicting Mr Kipps s earlier thoughts
in a way that can only be interpreted fully by the

Kidd Alvarez Summary
I am reading one of Matt De La Peña top novels, I will save you. In chapter one, it takes place at the

his best friend. But, Oliva might love Devon. Now that brings me to the last main character, Devon.
He is Kidd best friend and worst enemy. He is Kidd worst enemy because he is always flirting with
Olivia. This book is kind of set up like a diary. There no dates tho, just a title. I don t like diary books

Writer director Paul Haggis Movie Crash written in 2004, tells an interconnecting story of what

or Political background, they are all defined in one way or another by racism. Crash represents the
modern condition as a violent bumper car ride (Variety) which connects stories based on coincidences
serendipity, and luck as the lives of the characters crash against one another. The movie presumes that
most people feel prejudice and resentment against members of another group. Crash has a world pool

The character is wordy and didactic, yes, but not the film. He is also as he proves when he and his
partner carjack a young District Attorney (Brendan Fraser) and his wife (Sandra Bullock) everything
he despises white people for suspecting he is. (Empire) Along his side is his friend Peter Waters who
is played by Larenz Tate, they together begin to steal cars to make a living. Anthony is the dominant
one of the two, since he is older.
The film Crash fits into the categories of Drama, Indie, and Crime. Crash relates to the categories by
including all the characters emotion and how they are individual lives are impacted. How crime is
related in the film is by the carjacking, sexual assaults and as well as the shooting of Mr. Pena s
daughter. The film is not part of a classic. Crash is based on a real life experienced instead of a true
story, It originated in a dream that I had. I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about these two
guys who 10 years before had jacked my car. I was really curious about who these two kids were.
(HUFFPOST) The film is unique to its categories, because it covers so many different story lines, and
it forcers the viewer to look deep inside themselves and choose which side they would be on. The
viewer can be in this situation at any given time, and it would be up to the viewers to say would I do
this or would I act in a unique way to change my life and someone else

Essay on The Role of the Reflexive Ethnographer
The Role of the Reflexive Ethnographer
Works Cited Missing
The role of the reflexive ethnographer has been constantly defined and redefined since the beginning
of the study of anthropology. The use of reflexivity has and will always be questioned in anthropology.
Malinowski, who was a pioneer in the field of anthropology, discouraged the use of reflexivity; he,
instead, believed that anthropology was scientific and could produce concrete evidence (Malinowski
17).
Reflexivity is way in which anthropologists try to get rid of this scientific and rigid anthropology; it is
a move towards an emotional and self reflective anthropology. Reflexivity denies the structuralism
which Malinowski and Levi Strauss attended to. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Visweswaran believes that reflexive anthropology did not begin with Paul Rabinow, Jean Paul
Dumont and Vincent Crapanzano (Visweswaran 22) but began with women who, because of societal
constraints, could not be anthropologists. These women s writings, she claims, have been dismissed as
popularized accounts or as confessional field literature (Visweswaran 21).
These ethnographies have been also called inadequate science (Visweswaran 21); this is in relation to
Malinowski s belief that anthropology is a structured and scientific method. It is ironic then that men
are heralded as exemplars of this new genre (Visweswaran 22) when women began reflexivity before
them. Visweswaran goes on to analyze these formerly unknown and ignored female texts; she looks at
these ethnographies to make her own ethnography. These ethnographies, for Visweswaran, are
ethnographies in the text themselves; they reveal the female author s complex negotiation of
positionality within a single gender domain (Visweswaran 27).
Visweswaran is thus reflexive about the female identity and hence about her own identity. She
believes that anthropologists should be reflexive with

Digging into Kalam’s Cosmological Argument for the...
William Lane Craig puts forth an argument for the existence of God in Kalam s Cosmological
Argument. In this, Craig argues that the universe began to exist and the cause of the universe s
existence must have been God. Kalam s Cosmological Argument is trying to demonstrate the
impossibility of an actual infinite, which states that the universe is eternal it has always been here.
Kalam s Cosmological Argument goes as such: Whatever begins to exist has a cause The universe
began to exist Therefore, the universe has a cause. And this cause is God.
The first premise of Kalam s Cosmological Argument whatever begins to exist has a cause must be
true. By denying the first premise of the argument, one is denying a natural law. The law is the Law of
Conservation of Matter, which states that matter can neither be created nor destroyed. However, the
second premise has had much controversy. How does one know that the world began to exist, instead
of it always existing? There is plenty of science to prove it. The Second Law of Thermodynamics
states that we are slowly running out of energy; therefore, if the universe was eternal, it most likely
would have run out of energy by now. It has also been discovered that our world and universe are
constantly expanding, and that if it has been expanding throughout the past it could not be infinite.
There would be a point in the past in which it all began. So one can conclude that the universe, along
with time and space, began to exist.

Sleep Restoration Theory
Nathan Skemp Rawl 12:20 4/21/17 The Function of Sleep Almost every known animal on planet
Earth spends a large portion of its life asleep. Humans who sleep an average of eight hours a night
spend about one third of their lifetime in this unconscious state of mind (Schenck). By logical
reasoning, all scientists of merit believe sleep is important since we spend an entire third of our life
participating in the activity, the disagreement between scientists occurs when discussing the purpose
of sleep. There are many theories as to why we sleep, the latest arguments revolve around the
restoration theory, brain plasticity theory, evolution theory, energy conversation theory, and the
dreaming theory. Recent research suggests the combination of two theories to accurately represent the
purpose of sleep, the restorative theory and the brain plasticity theory. These theories claim that
quality sleep promotes restoration processes within the body and brain, as well as the physical
development and growth of the body ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the brain plasticity theory was created and so widely accepted by experts within
psychology and other respectable related fields of science. However, there are other functions that
occur during sleep that aren t fully explained by the brain plasticity theory, purposes that become
highlighted by the restoration theory. The restoration theory of sleep claims that sleeping is essential
for revitalizing and restoring the physiological processes that keep the body and mind healthy and
properly functioning (Foster). This theory suggests that REM sleep is what allows the brain and body
to heal itself from damaged tissues, diseases, and toxins that may accumulate in the brain or body
during the day. This theory splits the brain into two functions, awake and alert or asleep and

Executive Analysis Of Irene Rosenfeld s Journey
CEO
Irene Rosenfeld s journey to becoming one of the Top 20 Most Powerful Female CEO s in the World
began with three degrees from Cornell University: B.A. in Psychology (1975), M.S. in Business
Administration (1977) and a Ph.D. in Marketing and Statistics (1980). After beginning her career for
an advertising agency she began working in the Marketing Department for General Foods
Corporation, where she worked her way up the corporate ladder for the next 15 years. General Foods
was bought out by Philip Morris and eventually merged with Kraft Foods. Rosenfeld continued to
work her way up and was assigned to lead Kraft s complete Canadian Division. Some of her main
accomplishments before she left in 2004 to Frito Lay, were integrating biscuit products of Nabisco
into Kraft Foods in 2000. She was also on the committee that brought Kraft its first public stock
offering in 2001 (Britannica, 2014).
At Frito Lay, she became their CEO and Chairman within a short two year period. However, during
her tenure as their CEO, she introduced many low salt and low fat snacks to their product line. After
making a complete break away from Philip Morris, she rejoined Kraft as their CEO and Chairman.
Since then she has been the leader of Mondelēz and has introduced many new products, reorganized
existing brands, and entered into new markets internationally. In addition, she has also acquired new
ventures overseas, such as the takeover of Cadbury in 2010. One of the biggest changes she made was

Case 6.2 Economic Analysis
6.2 Economic Analysis The goal of the economic analysis was to determine the increase in inspections
per year, translate that information into dollars, and determine how long until the cost of the
application is recovered in inspection value. It was estimated that this application would save 6 hours
per week. In a 16 week Co op work term, usually 14 weeks would be spent inspecting. This means 84
hours per year will be saved by this application. At approximately 1 hour per inspection, this will
increase the number of inspections per year by 84; a percent increase of 27.63%. The next goal was to
determine a cost per crossing without the application. For this, 2016 costs were used (MHI, 2017)
except accommodation costs, as the 2016 accommodation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this is a large sum of dollars, even if the application prevents a single crossing collision the
systemic cost savings would be undoubtedly worth it; let alone the value of a human life. However,
systemic costs aside, RPP still must produce $70,840. If this can be afforded, it is recommended the
application be built and objectives 5 7 completed. It is also recommended that RPP, if unable to afford
the cost of building the application, explore the feasibility of sharing the costs across provincial or
other jurisdictions. This would involve re updating the application database to include the other
jurisdictions data and to include any other attributes that may be desired to be collected. This would
likely be comparatively little work to the application design while reducing the cost to RPP a
significant quantity. This would also result in greater cross jurisdictional data and methodological
consistency. Another possible mode of action that could be taken by RPP would be to find other
programs similar to Smart Client that can be developed for less financial commitment. It could be
possible that the application design for Smart Client could be compatible with other programs or could
be used as a blueprint to create an application from scratch. Even if this application design was unable
be directly used, it would still constitute a guideline for another application

Cold and Warm Fronts
Cold and Warm fronts Often times when we experience a drastic change in weather, these changes
occur from fronts. Both warm and cold fronts create sudden changes. These fronts are different air
masses that separate at different densities. Zones are what separate the difference between warm and
cold fronts. Often times between warm and cold front there are narrow lines and they`re typically
shown by lines on a weather map. Usually, an air mass advance into the region occupied by another
air mass. When two fronts collide this creates a midlatitude cyclone. Also, bringing much precipitation
and severe weather to the area. There are five basic types of fronts warm fronts, cold fronts, stationary
fronts, occluded fronts, and drylines. Although, these are all important and have a big impact on our
weather systems the most common are warm and cold fronts. Warm fronts are noted on a weather map
often by a red line with semicircles indication the direction in which the front is heading. They often
invade an area of cooler air, and bring warmer air to the area. Warm fonts usually move from
southwest to northeast and the air behind a warm front is usually warmer and moister than the air
behind it (Climate Weather. Web). They often come into play in the United States by (mT) or maritime
tropical. This is where the warm air enters the borders from the Gulf of Mexico pushing over the land
where cooler air exist. Generally when these fonts combine this produces all kinds of

  • 2. Tilted Arc The Destruction of Public Art Tilted Arc (Figure 1) was brought down on the 15th of March of 1989 by the General Services Administration (GSA) in the centre of New York s federal plaza. Tilted Arc was a site specific work of a curved steel wall or barrier, that was 120 feet long and 12 feet high, with an arch that gave the effect of the wall leaning inwards. The GSA commissioned Richard Serra to build a sculpture for the Art in Architecture program that would be placed in the plaza in front of the Jacob K Davits Federal building. The work was set up in 1981 and received a few critical comments. However, it was only when William Diamond, an appointee GSA New York Regional Administrator, started to investigate a bit more that he created substantial arguments against the sculpture to try and relocate it. Tilted Arc then became a controversial piece of work that involved the art world and major associations and resulted in a lawsuit and public hearing in 1985. The main issues that surrounded the controversy relate to the way in which the space was transformed, the rights of the artist, and censorship. In addition, we must question the role of public art in society, if certain works should be considered public art, and the ways in which power and politics can influence the arts. Richard Serra is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When talking about Tilted Arc he argues that the public space is internal to its meaning, this would change the meaning and the art. • 3. Hills Like White Elephants, By Ernest Hemmingway In the story Hills Like White Elephants, Ernest Hemmingway allows a superficial plot to symbolically display a conflict between choice of destination as a couple s discussion between train rides. The layers of description and dialog manipulate a small moment of time and demonstrate that a human choice can range while perspective shifts the understood potential of the landscape. By crafting an intricate story that is filled with symbolism and overlapping complexities, Hemmingway provides a sophisticated short story that exposes the feelings behind controversial life choices. The story begins by introducing the side of the valley with no shade and no trees, a forty minute wait time, and the couple in Spain. The two are described at first as an American and a ... Through the numerous details, Hemmingway creates a short story that reflects the opinions of two very different opinions. In one case, change is something that is desired, yet in the same relationship, change can be too consequential to readily accept. • 4. Tap Dance History After hundreds of years of evolution and development, tap dancing has become a truly authentic American artform. However, no two people can agree on exactly how or where the discipline began. Emmy award winning tapper Jason Samuel Smith still holds an enormous amount of respect for the history of his artform. Tap culture is all about celebrating the past and accumulating its vocabulary over time, he says. If we don t maintain our history, we lose what is valuable about tap. Despite the questionable and often debated origin of tap, the discipline stems directly from African roots due to articulate rhythmic and stylistic patterns of African dance, techniques consisting of gliding, shuffling and dragging steps, and the introduction of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Drummers collaborated with the dancers in such a way that they were able to communicate with each other through different rhythms and changes in pitch and tone. African dances were extremely sophisticated, both stylistically and rhythmically. The rhythmical elements of the dances conveyed conventional rhythms found in various nature patterns. More often than not, these dances were very repetitive, much like the cycles of life(Knowles). It was this conversational exchange between drums and feet, drummers and dancers, that evolved into tap. Time step, a basic tap step, was based on asymmetrical balance, an important aspect to African expression. It includes six measures of repetitive rhythmic phrasing, along with two measures of rhythm breaks. Often times, the swaying motion used tended to cause the accented steps to fall on the second and fourth beats of a sequence. Through their steady patterns of assimilation, imitation, and transformation, tap was created(Source 17). A common theme to their dances was society s affinity with the Earth. The most common step in African dancing, which would later become the most basic step in tap dancing, was an example of this symbiotic relationship. In order to stay connected with the power of the Earth, dancers would keep their feet close to the dirt. Flatfootedness created steps that consisted of dragging, gliding, and shuffling step(Knowles). Today s tap clearly resembles African dance because it often utilizes drags, slides, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Last year, pollsters eventually overlooked Wisconsin s loss to Cincinnati, but the computers didn t. The result: the Badgers had an average computer ranking of 7.71 despite ranking fourth in both polls. 7.71 is the average of where the team is in the rankings among the top twenty five teams in the nation according to the seven computers. The Associated Press polls are organized by a number of different newspapers, magazines, and media. While the NCAA football coaches put together the Coaches poll. This is probably the most critical element of the four because it has only two subsets (the media and coaches polls) to be averaged (Edwards). The polls are run similarly to the computers; the two ranking are simply averaged together. The impact held by each poll is greater than that of any one computer or any one opponent. Perceived service alternatives are defined as other providers from whom the customer can obtain service (Zeithaml et. al., 2013, p.59). If customers have several service providers to select from, or if they can provide the service themselves, then their levels of adequate service are greater than those who believe it is not possible to get superior service in another place (p.59). Situational factors may be divided into two categories; uncontrollable situational factors and personal situational factors. Uncontrollable situational factors are service performance conditions that are beyond the service provider. For example, forces of nature such as a tornado or hurricane may affect a service provider in certain geographic areas. Customers may be more willing to accept a delay in service due to the effects if the natural disaster. Situational factors often lower the level of adequate service, widening the zone of tolerance (Zeithaml et. al., 2013, p.61). According to Robert O Brien and Marc Williams globalization in terms of liberalization is: the removal of restrictions to cross border flows, such as the elimination of trade or investment barriers (O Brien and Williams:27). Globalization has also transformed the way the world is viewed today. As technology has improved the production of goods are made faster and cheaper as well as the transportation of goods. How is globalization bad? If markets are expanding, new jobs are being created and people are being lifted off from poverty. Globalization has also increased competition among countries by removing regulation laws that are undermining corporations to increase profit as well the faster and cheaper production of goods. For example, a country that has strict labor and environmental laws will engage a Multinational Corporation to move to a country that have these laws set at a bare minimum; this is because they want to gain as much profit as possible with low production costs. The web server will see the request and check to see if it has a webpage for that location and then send you a request with either the content requests or an error code that let s you know that it does not have what you have asked for. To the untrained eye, HTTP syntax may look rather complicated, but it is actually simple. Not in the cliché sense where one comes from reading a book and proclaims his or her life different, but altered in the sense where I have been forced to confront the issue of my own identity through the text itself. Can we reconcile, within ourselves, the notions of love, animalism, identity and sexuality (or other cultural difference) after they are marginalized into the realm of other? How do we step outside of an ideology produced by the hierarchical formation and heal the wounds that we inflict on one another? For the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jeanette Winterson in her preface to Nightwood remarked The language [in Nightwood] is not about conveying information; it is about conveying meaning. It is hard to disagree with Winterson, especially taken in the context of Barnes not being able to communicate her feelings with people directly; it makes sense that she would communicate her feelings indirectly via her writing. In my attempts to explain Nightwood as a whole, that is its language, and the meaning that one can take from such a book, I find what draws me to this piece of literature aside from its complexity and richness are the way in which its characters, Felix Volkbein, Robin Vote, Dr. Matthew O Connor and Nora Flood seek out one another in hopes that the one will fulfill the other s desire. For the analytical discussion of the novel I would like to read the character Robin Vote, examine the locus of her abject, which is that place where the meaning between Object and Subject collapses the construction of the I (read: identity ) and allows the character to experience and occupy the space of symbolic terror as she sleepwalks in and out of Felix and Nora s ... She is also quite late, arriving halfway to the end of it and then disappearing before the cortège. There is also the obvious factor that it seemed particularly strange that a woman who was perhaps only a short time away from her own death, should drag herself to the funeral of another . To a reader, this seems decidedly minatory, since it is incredibly unlikely that someone about to breathe their last would go to Mrs Drablow s burial, especially as Mrs Drablow was known for having no close friends or family and the only other people at her funeral (besides the Parson) were her solicitors. Lastly, on the off chance she just didn t have a prayer book and actually was Mrs Drablow s long lost relative or forgotten friend, as Mr Kipps clearly believed, she disappeared with a slight rustle of clothing . Essay on The Role of the Reflexive Ethnographer The Role of the Reflexive Ethnographer Works Cited Missing The role of the reflexive ethnographer has been constantly defined and redefined since the beginning of the study of anthropology. The use of reflexivity has and will always be questioned in anthropology. Malinowski, who was a pioneer in the field of anthropology, discouraged the use of reflexivity; he, instead, believed that anthropology was scientific and could produce concrete evidence (Malinowski 17). Reflexivity is way in which anthropologists try to get rid of this scientific and rigid anthropology; it is a move towards an emotional and self reflective anthropology. Reflexivity denies the structuralism which Malinowski and Levi Strauss attended to. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Visweswaran believes that reflexive anthropology did not begin with Paul Rabinow, Jean Paul Dumont and Vincent Crapanzano (Visweswaran 22) but began with women who, because of societal constraints, could not be anthropologists. These women s writings, she claims, have been dismissed as popularized accounts or as confessional field literature (Visweswaran 21). These ethnographies have been also called inadequate science (Visweswaran 21); this is in relation to Malinowski s belief that anthropology is a structured and scientific method. It is ironic then that men are heralded as exemplars of this new genre (Visweswaran 22) when women began reflexivity before them. Visweswaran goes on to analyze these formerly unknown and ignored female texts; she looks at these ethnographies to make her own ethnography. These ethnographies, for Visweswaran, are ethnographies in the text themselves; they reveal the female author s complex negotiation of positionality within a single gender domain (Visweswaran 27). In this, Craig argues that the universe began to exist and the cause of the universe s existence must have been God. Kalam s Cosmological Argument is trying to demonstrate the impossibility of an actual infinite, which states that the universe is eternal it has always been here. Kalam s Cosmological Argument goes as such: Whatever begins to exist has a cause The universe began to exist Therefore, the universe has a cause. And this cause is God. The first premise of Kalam s Cosmological Argument whatever begins to exist has a cause must be true. By denying the first premise of the argument, one is denying a natural law. The law is the Law of Conservation of Matter, which states that matter can neither be created nor destroyed. However, the second premise has had much controversy. How does one know that the world began to exist, instead of it always existing? There is plenty of science to prove it. The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that we are slowly running out of energy; therefore, if the universe was eternal, it most likely would have run out of energy by now. It has also been discovered that our world and universe are constantly expanding, and that if it has been expanding throughout the past it could not be infinite. There would be a point in the past in which it all began. So one can conclude that the universe, along with time and space, began to exist. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By logical reasoning, all scientists of merit believe sleep is important since we spend an entire third of our life participating in the activity, the disagreement between scientists occurs when discussing the purpose of sleep. There are many theories as to why we sleep, the latest arguments revolve around the restoration theory, brain plasticity theory, evolution theory, energy conversation theory, and the dreaming theory. These fronts are different air masses that separate at different densities. Zones are what separate the difference between warm and cold fronts. Often times between warm and cold front there are narrow lines and they`re typically shown by lines on a weather map. Usually, an air mass advance into the region occupied by another air mass. When two fronts collide this creates a midlatitude cyclone. Also, bringing much precipitation and severe weather to the area. There are five basic types of fronts warm fronts, cold fronts, stationary fronts, occluded fronts, and drylines.
