The Expansion Of Interest Groups
The emergence of interest groups in the European Union weakened the union s overall power ;
however, many politicians collaborate with them to gain an advantage. It is important to remember
that interest groups are private firms, who can allocate their resources to provide studies for
political actors. Interest groups provide policymaking expertise, and implementation and
monitoring capacity, the potential for a consolidated collective viewpoint, and the potential to
enhance legitimacy (Bache, Bulmer, George, Parker 2014, 310). With the acquired data, political
actors can push forward stronger legislations built on concrete data. Interest groups pivotal role in

Consequently, interest groups resemble a double edged sword to the EU because although they can
provide resources and information to public institutions, usually the largest groups will have the
most influence. Moreover, the amount of resources available will secure insider status with the
policy makers or remain outside the policy process. (Bache ,Bulmer, George, Parker 2014, 315).
The firms who control insider status will indirectly possess some control about the policies
discussed in the EU. However, large firms also carry a substantial amount of influence because of
their economic power. For example, politicians will find their hands tied if they decide to rule
against one of the largest job suppliers in a country despite huge strikes against them. As the author
states, large firms find it easy to become privileged interlocutors of the political administrative
system, thanks to their economic importance. (Bache ,Bulmer, George, Parker 2014, 316). The
wealth and resources possessed by large firms make interest group politics a process where the
strongest stay on top and dominate conversations. Therefore, although in the last decade s interest
groups have advocated for positive social, environmental, and economic changes, their role is
contested against business interest. Clearly, interest groups in the EU is ultimately very
circumstantial because they can advocate anything from same sex marriages to fewer taxes on the
rich. The

How Does Mrs. Havisham Treat Estella
Great Expectations Essay Parents are so often the soul foundation of a child s character. For some,
that isn t a good thing. Mrs.Havisham mistreated Estella and it shaped and changed her into into a
rude character . She always put her hopes and ambitions into Estella, even when it wasn t the best
option and only beneficial to herself. Mrs.Havisham created something heartless and cut throat in a
way. After all the bad had happened, she came to her senses and regretted the things she had done.
Mrs.Havisham s treatment towards Estella could have changed the whole story. Mrs.Havisham
always pushed her wants and ideals into Estella. She had manipulated and trained Estella to treat

The Rock Of Pop Rock
2000 s Due to pop music s popularity, rock experienced a diminished presence on the top 40
music chart by the end of the decade, though the genre still sold well. In the early 2000s, there
was an astounding resurgence of interest in pop rock. This began in the year 2000 with the
success of Blink 182 s song All the Small Things and Nine Days s song Absolutely (Story of a
Girl) , both of which peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100. Pop rock is a genre that mixes
catchy pop lyrics with rock based instrumentation. The characteristics of pop rock are: it appeals to
a general audience, rather than to a sub culture. The music reflects existing trends and is based on
dancing and uses dance orientated beats and rhythms. Pop rock songs... Show more content on

Hound Dog was the beginning of Elvis Presley s rock music career with songs such as jailhouse
rock following. Presley brought a whole new type of fun to music with his unique style of
dancing along with his upbeat loud songs. It is believed that the way Presley s songs reached out
to young listeners was the kick start needed to shape rock into what it became in the late 1950 s
onwards. THE BEATLES The Beatles music was the start of modern pop rock, as we know it
today. From infectious melodies of innocent love to introspective Middle Eastern influences,
psychedelic musings and talk of revolution The Beatles were the house band of the 1960s,
paralleling, and at times even spearheading, the turbulent decade. They received amazing
amounts of praise from people all over the world with one of the biggest fan bases seen in that
era. This changed the way people viewed musicians and allowed rock music to become even
more mainstream and popular. In the later years, The Beatles brought their music into the
psychedelic rock genre with hits such as I Am The Walrus and Tomorrow Never Knows . HOUND

Space Debris Research Paper
Space Debris
People were looking up at the night sky and dreaming about flying to the stars for over thousands
of years. Myths and legends of many nations of the world are full of stories about the journeys to
the Moon and the Sun. Currently, manned space crafts and space stations have become almost
commonplace in everyday life. Space exploration is undoubtedly essential and necessary stage of
the progress of human civilization, but it entailed all the negative aspects of anthropogenic
activities. The atomic age polluted the huge space of the Earth, which requires billions of dollars
for a cleanup. Now, it turned out that near Earth space became littered as well. However, it is
much more difficult and expensive to clean it up. Space debris ... Show more content on

In 1983, a smack particle hit the porthole of the space shuttle Challenger (Nelson 2014). It did not
break through but left a noticeable imprint. After landing, craft specialists thoroughly inspected
the damage and concluded that it was a chip of paint, which peeled off some other spacecraft. In
general, the United States has the richest history of similar cases. One of the most famous
incidents occurred with the Atlantis shuttle in 2006 when a small particle of debris pierced the
radiator panel, one wall of the cargo hold, and ultimately stuck in the opposite one (Young 2006).
The following year, the Endeavour shuttle got a hole of few inches in its hull. Another debris of
0.4 inches in diameter punctured the Hubble Space Telescope array (Pelton 2013). At the same
time, other countries suffer from this problem as well and even worse. For example, the Russian
communications satellite Express AM11 collided with a micro particle of debris, which damaged
the thermal control system (Broadcasts ... 2006). As a result, the satellite broke down and left the
Far East without television for some time (Broadcasts ... 2006). This case ties into another problem

Essay about This Fleeting World
This Fleeting World
This Fleeting World takes about two hundred and fifty thousand years worth of history and
compacts it into a one hundred and twenty page book. I believe Christian did a stellar job of
doing so. Although short, it is very rich in knowledge about how our world came to be. His points
are powerful and well put. This book definitely stands out in all the black and whiteness of history
books. This fleeting world ties the start of humanity, to current life very efficiently.
The moment the earth was made was when history was first conceived. The introduction tells us
about the making of planet Earth, which sets up the scene for the arrival of the Foragers. The
history of man consists of three primary eras: the Era ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He wanted to capture our attention so we could maybe realize the importance of our prehistory.
Christian s book gives you a better understanding of the order of how the world began to fall in
place. He allows us to know not only what and where, but also when, which is important in
understanding our history. Starting out as Homo Sapiens, human kind has come a long way to
become what we are today.
I believe David Christian backs up his claims exceptionally with information. He creates an
outstanding balance between fact and opinion. His opinions are always backed with reasonings
and fact, which leave us very convinced and satisfied. For example; The emergence of new forms
of radical anti Westernization is merely one reflection of growing resistance to Western values
(Christian 88). He then backs up his claim in the next paragraph stating, In 1960 the wealthiest 20
percent of the world s population earned about thirty times as much as the poorest twenty percent;
in 1991 the wealthiest twenty percent earned sixty one times as much (Christian 88). To prove his
point, Christian applies opinions, facts, statistics, and judgement to stand next to his claims. He is a
writer in accuracy, not just opinion.
David Christian has indeed written a phenomenal book that breaks down our history into
satisfactory proportions. It gives us a better grasp

The Importance Of Accounting Standards For Business Affairs
Introduction
IFRS is a general global financial language for business affairs that s understandable globally and
comparable across the international boundaries. IFRS initially was formed to harmonize accounting
across European Union, but the value of harmonization was so overwhelming and attractive around
the world that became a benchmark globally.
Importance of Accounting Standards
In this assignment I want to explain the importance of the Accounting standards. As the world
economy is becoming integrated and globalization is becoming a universal phenomenon, more and
more businesses are getting out of the nationalistic perspective. Today one company have subsidiary
companies and plants in many other countries. One of the dilemmas that ... Show more content on

International Accounting standards board (IASB) with its capable team of professionals issues
International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in order to deal with the problem of asymmetric
information. The main purpose of standards is to provide information to the users as to the basis on
which the accounts have been prepared to bring about uniformity in financial reporting and to
ensure consistency in the data published by enterprises. The general idea is to harmonize
accounting standards around the world, however there are contrasting views on the subject.
With the rapid growth of international trade and internationalization of firms, the technological
advancements and the emergence of international competitive forces is perturbing the financial
environment largely. The businesses are badly in need of a common accounting language. A global
financial reporting system is a prerequisite for attracting foreign investors. People whose
investment grow internationally, want to be able to keep track of the financial health of the
securities issuers. Convergence of accounting standards can provide the means to do so. The focus
is on three factors:
Comparability
Transparency
Relevance
Controversies and Justification
The World Bank reports that integration with global capital markets can lead to disastrous effects,
without sound domestic financial systems and standards in place. However, harmonized accounting

Abstract
During the 1920s and 1930s, Britain saw a movement of its inner city industries moving out to
adjacent sites which lead to Britain s road network to be redeveloped.
Britain s first motorway , the 13 km Preston bypass was opened in 1958, and following this the
Goverment planned to improve 6750km of road to at least dual carriageway standard to form
strategic inter urban network for England. This network was marked as a national commitment,
which would enhance road safety, be easily connected to all major centres of population, promote
economic growth and regional development.

The Pros And Cons Of Ethnography
Ethnography is the systematic study of people and their cultures. It refers both to the process that
is used to study people as well as the outcome of this process. The term ethnography comes from
the Greek words ethnos (which means people or nation) and grapho (which means I write ).
Ethnography has been around for several decades, although it became highly popular in the late
19th century. There have been several approaches to this study; Franz Boas, for example,
preferred using documents and informants to learn more about other cultures. However, many
ethnographers nowadays follow the approach of Bronislaw Malinowski, who believed that
researchers should immerse themselves in the life of the people they were studying. Malinowski
embodied this belief by going to Trobriand Island, living there for several years while he did his
fieldwork, and even learning the language of the local people.
At first glance, ethnography offers a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before he could begin studying a certain group of people, the ethnographer has to build rapport
with his subjects and make them comfortable around him. Of course, he has to spend months or
even years observing how they live on a daily basis and understanding their culture, norms, and
traditions.
3. It depends on the ethnographer s relationship with his subjects.
Unlike most quantitative studies that can be done even with an impersonal relationship,
ethnography requires researchers to be in close contact with his subjects and have a good one on
one relationship with them. Building this relationship can be easy, but there are cases when the
ethnographer would have a difficult time creating rapport with his subjects. This is particularly true
for tribes that have not been in frequent contact with outsiders as well as groups of people don t
take kindly to foreigners living in their lands.
4. It depends on people s openness and

Theme Of Fabliau In The Canterbury Tales
A fabliau is aptly categorized as a scandalous tale meant to satirize the bourgeois through the
depiction of bourgeois characters. This is the genre Chaucer writes The Miller s Tale, from his The
Canterbury Tales, in so he can distinguish the social class levels of the people on the pilgrimage.
Chaucer shows us the differences by paralleling then transforming certain aspects of this fabliau
with the same elements of the chivalric romanceof the Knight s Tale.
Fabliaux are salacious tales driven by elements such as deception to acquire money or
possessions, to get sexual gratification, or to get revenge on somebody for a past wrong. The
fabliau hinges upon an elaborate trick, set up with huge care in the story, contains the climax of
the tale, and ends abruptly as the story itself ends. It is actually unknown whether the initial
purpose of such a tale was for the nobility to mock the non aristocrats with whom they competed
for status, or whether the bourgeois told fabliaux as an act of self mockery, to show how much the
middle class has risen.
In the Miller s prologue, we can infer that the Host wants the chronology of the storytelling to
follow the levels of class; thus the reason why he solicits the Monk to tell a story after the noble
Knight. The Host wants the Monk repay the Knight a little for his tale, but the inebriated Miller
volunteers to pay the Knight his wages. (86, 87) From the context, it appears that the Miller
interprets the Host s request to repay

Schools Should End Up Hurting American Students
America has always been a place where people from all over the world have strived to travel in
hopes of creating a better and more promising future for themselves. In today s classrooms, teachers
are experiencing the culture and language related effects of that endeavor. With an increasing
amount of non English speakers entering the country each year, the population of students who
speak English as a second languageor no English at all increases as well. Not only are these students
entering with knowledge of another language but they also enter with the history of another culture.
These students are taught and raised to love their traditional languages and cultures. To take these
aspects away from them in order to make them understand our way of life is not fair nor is it
educationally beneficial. Some say foreigners need to assimilate because they are entering our
country and by trying to accommodate their tradition, schools will end up hurting American
students educational progress. This is not found to be true in as many cases as one would think
though. By incorporating home or second language and diverse cultural exploration in combination
with Standard English and American culture into the classroom, all students will benefit in multiple
areas of learning and life. With evidence from studies, it is exemplified that implementing home
language and culture in combination with English and American culture may improve the
academic performance of all students. When

Differences Between Private Sector And Voluntary Sector
1.Understand organisational structures
1.1Explain the differences between the private sector, public sector and voluntary sector
Private Sector
Businesses and industries that are not owned or controlled by the Government. Private Sector
organisations operate privately to make a profit with income generated from the sale of their
products or services. Although many private sector firms are owned and controlled by individuals,
many are owned by groups of people; for example, companies may be owned by shareholders, who
have invested in that company.
The Private Sector includes:

The Voluntary Sector is often referred to as the Third Sector or Not for Profit Sector. Whist they

The Voluntary Sector includes:

Trusts Local Housing Associations
Local community organisations Neighbourhood Watch Schemes
Societies/Clubs Local sports clubs, Scouts, Guides
1.2Explain the functions of different organisational structures
Having the appropriate structure is vital for an organisation or business to meet its aims and
objectives. A business may be structured by:
Functions activities such as customer service, marketing, operations, finance or IT
Location where regional divisions of the business take responsibility for a specific function or
particular products, whether locally, nationally or internationally
Product or services where the business is divided into the particular products made or services
provided
All organisations have employees working at different levels of responsibility. At the bottom, a
business depends on its operatives to produce the products or services. Team leaders often perform
the day to day management role, with operational managers setting direction and strategy for the
business as a whole. The number of employees in each level will depend on the business

Diary Of A Madman, Ah Q, And An Unimportant Affair
Lu Xun often makes a point to include the underlying cruelty found in Chinese culture within his
stories. Using characters from Diary of a Madman, Ah Q, and an Unimportant Affair, I will
explain why this topic stood out to me the most. In Diary of a Madman, the main character is a
madman who writes about his delusions and lives with his older brother. Ah Q follows a man who
is deemed simply as Ah Q. It describes his hardships, which are brought on by the cruelty of the
society, as well as by his own doings. Lastly, in An Unimportant Affair the main character
witnesses an event that changes his outlook on life and the society around him and makes him
contemplate his motives. In Diary of a Madman, the main character has been locked in a room in

He wants to see the world change and become a better place where everyone is safe and protect

Furthermore, it is necessary to understand the role that artwork plays in modern political and

significant problems in the world and their solutions. The relationship between the works of Ai

Genetic Background Of 189 Ssd Lines
In GWBP, the association mapping was conducted on the different genetic background of 189 SSD
lines derived from a natural crossing between 11 parents (CГґte d Or/1 is one of them). The linkage
disequilibrium and population structure of GWBP were described in detail by Sallam and

GWBP has low structure, we assume that GLM model fits with the analysis of association
mapping. However, we presented marker trait association using MLM+K for AUPSC, LTAF,
and LTCF. The results of association analysis revealed that 12 different significant markers were
found to be associated with AUSPC, LTAF, LCAF (Table 3). It was difficult to determine the
contribution of each parent of the GWBP (unlike BPP) because this population was derived
from a natural crossing of 11 parents. However, the number of alleles (for the 12 significant
markers, Table 3) associated with decreased frost stress symptoms in each founder line is
presented in Figure S3A. This number ranged from four alleles inherited from Banner/1 to ten
alleles from L979/1. This indicates that L979/1 is the main source of frost tolerance found in
GWBP. Of 12 alleles, CГґte d Or/1 had eight alleles that were responsible for decreasing the effect
of frost stress. Conversely, for each allele associated with a decrease in frost stress symptoms, the
number of founder lines carrying that allele was determined (Figure S3B). This was done in order to

My Experience At Starbucks And Drinking Coffee
I sit in my kitchen every morning, with one eye open, listening to the sound of the dripping water
as it fills the clear decanter with black liquid gold. The smell of hazelnut aroma fills the air and a
sigh of relief escapes my breath knowing that it s almost time to taste the delicious coffee that will
awaken my senses and help me start the new day. Coffee, also known as Joe, Dirt, Brew, Java, Jitter
Juice, and Liquid Energy, has been a staple in my family since I was a small boy. I still remember
my father hunched over the kitchen table reading the morning newspaper while drinking a fresh
cup of Joe. As an adult I have come to appreciate coffee especially in the morning, relaxing with
friends at Starbucks or an after dinner treat.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, carbohydrates play an important role in the coffee bean. Carbohydrates serve as an
aroma binder in raw coffee beans. They help the quality of coffee by contributing to its thickness
and consistency. In other studies carbohydrates in coffee have also been known as dietary fiber
to assist probiotics within the digestive system. Coffee is also the number one source of
antioxidants. This simple drink is concentrated with a group of antioxidants that are called
flavonoids. According to medical journals flavonoids possess antiviral, anti allergic, anti
platelet, anti inflammatory, and antitumor activities. Coffee has been around for many first
discovered in 850 A.D by a goatherder who noticed an energetic change in the goats after eating
the red berries. The name coffee comes from the Kaffa region of Ethiopia where coffee trees grow
wild (). Ethiopia is considered a major exporter of Arabica coffee beans. Arabica trees grown in the
wild have been known to produce coffee beans for up to thirty years. Whereas the shrub or small
tree also known as Coffea, that grows 15 to 20 feet high, will produce a mature fruit that looks like
a cherry and contains two seeds that is surrounded by a sweet pulp. In addition, coffee has been

Taking a Look at Optical Technologies
Q1:
The main pathway of color vision is as following: light⇒photoreceptor⇒ bipolar cell
⇒Ganglion cell⇒ LGN ⇒ cortex⇒ extracortex. Here I will stress some key points of color
vision.
1)photoreceptors ( mainly cones, because rods are sensitive to low light level and blind to
color) absorb light, and through photochemical reactions transfer solar energy to electrical
energy which can be indirectly displayed as action potential of cells. There are three cones: L,
M, S cones respectively. L cones are responsible to long wavelength; M for middle wavelength;
and S for short wavelength. The typical receptive field of cones is center and surround pattern.
For example, on center Receptive Field will maximally activate if the surrounding was dark and
center was light on; the reverse is true for the off center RF. There are two complementary
theories of color vision: One of them is the dominant and popular trichromatic theory, which
argues that three types of cones (L, M, S) are sufficient to code the color vision. However,
Hering raised a different theory color opponent theory. He argued that there were four elemental
colors (R,Y, G, and B) not three. He also noted the pairing of R G, and of B Y. Three cone types
provides input to two different color opponent ganglion cells. For example, the opponent neuron
that produces the neural response we see as red or green gets excitation from the L cones and
inhibition from the M cones. When the L cones are more active than the M

Critical Analysis Of Marks And Spencer
Introduction: Marks and Spencer founded in the late 1800 s by Michael Marks and Tom
Spencer started out as open stalls all over Britain which grew into one of the largest and most
popular retailers in the UK, in 2010 they had 885 stores . Marks and Spencers gained their
reputation in the early 1980s when they adopted a policy of selling only British made clothing and
food and started selling under the brand of St. Michael. Also their returns policy which gave cash
returns to customers no matter when the bought the item made them popular. Marks and Spencer
continued grow steadily and the profitability of the company peaked in 1998 when it became the
first British retailer to make profits of ВЈ1 billion. However shortly after this the company saw a
decline in profits and fell into a bit of financial trouble. With change and the introduction of a

This is driven by the number of buyers in the market, the importance of each individual buyer to
the organisation, and cost to the buyer of switching from one supplier to another. However if a
business has just a few powerful buyers, they are often able to dictate terms. As Marks and
Spencer are in the retail industry there a number of close competitors, these competitors give the
consumer a lot of choice, switching to different retailer is easy as alternatives are readily
available hence the buyer has power over the service provider. Also as consumers are price
sensitive it is important to keep prices low or they will go elsewhere. The Power of Suppliers:
The Power of Suppliers indicates how easy it is for suppliers to drive up prices. Prices can be
driven up by the number of suppliers, the uniqueness of their product or service, relative size and
strength of the supplier and cost of switching from one supplier to another. The Threat of New

Orca whales have been in difficult circumstances ever since the first orca was captured in 1961.
The first orca captured lived two days in captivity then died and the reported cause of dead was
pneumonia. Many things come to mind when people think an orca is in captivity. Many people
tend to believe they are being treated, they will enjoy life more, and they will live longer due to
the fact they are receiving food and care. These statements are told to spectators at seaworld,

Most trainers received their job just walking in and applying. (Pg1) Another sad reason that orca
s may show aggression is most parks separate there baby s from the mother that way they can
ship them to other locations for visitors. Kalina was the first shamu born in captivity. Since most
whales live together in pods for all their life trainers thought Kalina and her mother Katina would
live together. Although at just age four management of Sea World decided that Kalina was too
much of a distraction when her mother was performing in shows. They relocated baby Kalina to
another park separating the baby from her mother. That same night her mother made a very high
pitched long distance call trying to find her daughter. Most scientists that work with whales say
they have never heard anything like it. Katina clearly was sad because her baby was taken from
her. SeaWorld chose to ignore this though because it was not profitable if the baby where to stay
with her mother. Orcas lives are decreased significantly in captivity. Today over one hundred fifty
eight orcas have lived in captivity. Two thirds of the orcas did not live past ten years (Pg1). The
average life span for an orca s have only increased a small bit since the nineteen sixties but still the
average life span is still very low. The current average life span for an orca is nine years. The

Needs Hierarchy Theory of Motivation
a. One of the most widely mentioned theories of motivation is the hierarchy of needs theory put
forth by psychologist Abraham Maslow. He was known for establishing the theory of a
hierarchy, writing that the needs of human beings can act as motivators when those very needs
remain unsatisfied. In order to address a need of a higher level, the immediate lower level of
need must be satisfied initially. Maslow s studied extensively exemplary people like Einstein,
Roosevelt rather than mentally ill or neurotic people. This was in itself a radical deviation from the
popular schools of psychology of his day, Freud and Skinner who saw little difference between
animalistic and humane motivations. Maslow s hierarchy of needs was an alternative... Show more

The negative version of these needs is low self esteem and inferiority complexes. Maslow felt
that Adler was really onto something when he proposed that these were at the roots of many, if
not most, of our psychological problems. All of the preceding four levels he calls deficit needs,
or D needs. If you don t have enough of something i.e. you have a deficit you feel the need. But if
you get all you need, you feel nothing at all! In other words, they cease to be motivating. 5. Self
Actualisation The highest need in Maslow s hierarchy is the need to truly become what one is
capable of becoming, to maximize one s potential and to accomplish material manifestations of the
promise of an individual. People who have everything can maximize their potential. They can seek
knowledge, peace, esthetic experiences, self fulfillment, one ness with God, etc. In evaluating this
need the individuals were characteristic of a certain criterion. A few were that These people were
reality centered, which means they could differentiate what is fake and dishonest from what is real
and genuine. They were problem centered, meaning they treated life s difficulties as problems
demanding solutions, not as personal troubles to be railed at or surrendered to. And they had a
different perception of means and ends. They felt that the ends don t necessarily justify the means,
that the means could be ends themselves, and

The Intermodal Shipping Container is a large steel box...
The Intermodal Shipping Container is a large steel box that was created to transport goods by
train, truck, or ship for around the last 50 years. The pioneer of this revolutionizing box goes is a
man by the name of Malcom McLean who began his transportation interest with his trucking
company (McLean Trucking) that he built into one of the nation s largest. From there, he
developed the steel container in 1956, which replaced the previous loading and unloading method
known as the Break Bulk Method. The Break Bulk Method was a much less efficient method
where all goods are loaded individually using bags, boxes, drums, crates, or barrels instead of
unified large containers. This method definitely being much more time consuming and risky... Show

Containers at half height are used to carry heavy, low volume products in order to not waste extra
air space in containers. Last but not least, the car carrier containers are made specifically to
transport different types of vehicles safely and efficiently. With many of these containers having
distinct differences, they all serve the same general purpose for transportation.
Container ships have completely redefined efficiency in terms of shipping quantity, speed, and
safety. Before the mainstream introduction of container ships in the 1950 s, shipping by sea was
slow, not standardized, and very inefficient. Loading and unloading cargo required many long and
strenuous man hours, and was generally not safe. After World War II, the concept of standardized
boxes for shipping was starting to grow, and on April 20, 1956 the SS Maxton shipped 58 truck
trailer vans from New York to Houston. Their chassis were not connected, and the boxes were
loaded and unloaded from the ship by gantry crane one of the most important pieces of machinery
in intermodal containerization. This is not the first example of containerization, but indeed the first
successful use of an intermodal structure. Almost immediately after, more cargo ships underwent
modifications for these shipping containers. (Board)
Businesses instantly realized the benefits, ports and ships were quickly modified for intermodal
container support. However, they were not immediately as standardized as was necessary

Differences And Comparison Of Mercantalists And Physiocrats
Comparison of Mercantalists and Physiocrats. Conclude which one do you support?
Mercantalism:
This economic theory was dominant in Western Europe during the 16th to the mid 19th centuries.
This school of thought states that wealth of a nation is primarily determined by the possession of
precious metals such as gold and silver. This exchange of precious metals is known as Bullionism.
Their main goal was to promote exports and restricts imports in order to hoard more of precious
metals. Major tenets of Mercantalism were:
Bullionism
They equated wealth of nation to accumulation of precious metals; bullions. Therefore, exports
were required to accumulate lots of precious metals as wealth.
Nationalism
The nation must be strong to compete. They believed a nation is well off only at the expense of
another country.
Duty free importation of raw materials and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, they also promote international trade which results in increase in market choices.
Importing enables a country to get high quality products at lower costs saving a great deal of
money. Mercantilism is based on the complete use of natural resources, but in reality natural
resources are finite When these resources would run out completely, economy might collapse.
However, Physiocracy believes in Law of Diminishing Returns , thus this school of though is more
valid and logical in meeting future contingencies. The rich gets richer in a system of mercantilism
and the working class gets poor and stagnant. In mercantilist system, colonies are forced to sell
their local raw materials at low prices to mother country and are later forced to purchase
manufactured goods at a higher price from mother country. This creates wider wealth gap between
the different income classes. Therefore, comparatively Physiocrates is a better school of thought in
term of its characteristics

One of the most recent visual encounters of using the word LOLOL was when my friend Taylor

so she decided to wear goggles and a mouth guard. I do not think I can t remember a time that I

Social Reform Dbq
The 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act eradicated the previous systems of relief offered to the poor
in Victorian England before 1834. This legislation was written up and passed with relatively little
difficulty and a lot of parliamentary support. The gist of the amendment was to decrease the
amount of impoverished citizens. This was the ultimate goal without providing any actual help
for the poor themselves. The 1834 amendment reformed poor laws across the country while also
establishing a wide network of workhouses as was fashioned in the amendment. Prior to the
amendment attitudes toward the poor were changing as the Industrial Revolution caused a rapid
upsurge in the number of poor. The poor were being increasingly viewed as criminals by the
wealthy Upper Class and this is directly reflected in the 1834 Poor LawAmendment Act.

included money, food and clothing, these low wages were not enough to support the average

This kind of minutiae based fingerprint recognition systems consists of two steps, i.e., minutiae
extraction and minutiae matching. In the minutiae matching process, the minutiae feature of a
given fingerprint is compared with the minutiae template, and the matched minutiae will be found
out. If the matching score exceeds a predefined threshold, the two fingerprints can be regarded as
belonging to a same finger.Such algorithms are the common ways to utilize the minutiae template
for fingerprint recognition. In various works, the authors have often showed that these kinds of
methods cannot provide enough distinguishing abilities for large scale fingerprint identification
tasks hence the need for edge detection arises. In our study we have tried to integrate the edge
detection technique with this minutia based method and tried to improve on the verification results
of these algorithms. Edge Detection is used to curtail the patterns found in a fingerprint image so
that weget only the most important information. Therefore the edge detected from its original
image contains major information which requires less amount of memory to store. Whenever
there isspectacular and evident change of pixels in the binaryimage for example, from grey to
white, we say an edge is present. Edge detection is a non trivial task because it is often very
difficult to establish if the change in intensity between the adjacent pixels is sufficient enough to be
considered as an edge or not, hence

Comparing The Loss Of Innocence In Wild Swans By Alice...
Both Wild Swans by Alice Munro and Flowers by Alice Walker explore the loss of innocence in
young women. Women have historically been seen as delicate and in need of protection. It is no
wonder that the loss of a woman s virginity is referred to as deflowering, comparing a woman s
sexual release to the death of beautiful, fragile nature. A woman s innocence is coveted, as people
go to great lengths to shield them from both the reality of death and the pleasures of sex. The lossof
certain kinds of innocence, specifically sexual, can be seen as shameful for a woman, as
opposed to the masculine pride a man may feel from the same events. Through the choice of
point of view, plot, and tone, Walker depicts Myop in Flowers as finding more peace in her loss
of innocence than Rose does in Wild Swans. Walker tells Myop s story in a third person
omniscient point of view, but limits greatly the extent to which she discloses Myop s inner
feelings. Only once does Walker refer to Myop as unafraid (Walker 76), giving us some insight
into her thoughts. However, most of the story is told from a rather detached point of view, mostly
noting Myop s actions and the setting around her. Myop s thoughts, then, must be gleaned from the
events of the story. One sees in how Myop responds to the corpse casually plucking a flower from
beside his head that while the corpse has stripped her of her innocence, she has become more
mature through her experience. Myop understands and accepts

respected and dignified branch of military in the whole world because of it s submarines, surface
ships, and aircraft carriers.
I. Introduction
A. Attention Getter The United States Navy is the envy of every other navy in the world. They don
t want to be like us they want to be us. Admiral Leighton Smith said this with true admiration for
our Naval Military force. Our battle fleet is the larger then the next 13 most powerful navies
combined. With 48 naval bases in the U.S. alone, over 600 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

a. Los Angeles Class There are currently 41 Los Angeles Class submarines in commission. 30 of
these submarines are equipped with 12 vertical launching systems in order to launch tomahawk
cruise missiles.
b. Seawolf Class A class originally meant to contain 29 submarines ended up only holding 3 after
money constraints because of the Cold War. This class is much quieter, faster and has more torpedo
tubes and weapons then the Los Angeles Class.
2. Ballistic Missile Submarines (SSBN) The fleet of ballistic missile submarines is placed in our
seas in order to retaliate against any attacks to the United States. We are prepared for surprise
attacks that would compromise our land security. Just having this system of submarines in place
has avoided many aggressive attacks towards the U.S.
a. Ohio Class Also known as the boomers, this class of lethal submarines is designed for stealth
and an accurate delivery of nuclear warheads. When sent out for a mission there is a crew of
about 15 officers and 140 enlisted submariners. They will be deployed at sea for approximately
70 days depending on their mission. The submarines are equipped with the Trident II D5 missile
that have an increased range and accuracy over the old Trident I C4 missile. These missiles were
first deployed in 1990 and are currently only used by the U.S. and British Navy.

The Trade Of The Fur Industry
Many people who wear fur are not aware with the sad reality behind its production. Fur is
associated with glamor and wealth. However, the truth is entirely different. Annually, millions of
animals are brutally killed for their skin in the name of fashion. Coats, accessories, hats, scarves,
and other fancy items are made from these innocent beings. They live their entire life in tiny cages,
often with diseases, and at the end beaten, skinned alive and thrown onto a pile. It may sound
terrifying, but this practice happens on a daily basis. Before buying fur, people should be well
informed that their trendy items come from cruel, needless, and bad for the environment industry.
The main countries that produce farm fur are China, Canada, United States, Russia, and various
Eastern European countries. China is the major fur s exporter. The fur industry is the only
industry that is unregulated by the federal government. Animals raised for fur in farms include
minks, foxes, chinchillas, rabbits, dogs, and cats. Also, there are beautiful wild animals such as
raccoons, wolves, coyotes, and more who are locked in steel jaw traps while free in nature and
then forced to live in cages their whole lives. According to PETA Organization, Animals who are
trapped in the wild can suffer for days from blood loss, shock, dehydration, frostbite, gangrene, and
attacks by predators. They may be caught in steel jaw traps that slam down on their legs, often
cutting to the bone. That

Explain The First Cause Argument
The first cause argument is based on cause and effect, it attests that the universe must have a cause,
and that this cause is God. The first cause argument is also known as the cosmological argument.
The universe could not have come into being without something that started it. Therefore, this
argument does show that God exists. This essay will analyse the first cause argument, provide proof
of why God is shown that he exists by the first cause argument and, explore the objections and
counter objections that people have when it comes to this argument.
The first cause argument shows the existence of God through the statement that the universe must
have a cause and as result, it is impossible for there to be an infinite cycle of causes so therefore,
God exists because he is the first cause. The strength of this argument is that it indicates the need
for something in order for there to be a beginning, but why conclude that this Something is God? I
conclude that this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have the gift of existence, and our existence was attained from our causes. If things and
people came into existence using their own nature without it being passed down to them through
other people there would be no need for a first cause but, people do not exist from their own
nature which means that they have a cause which goes to show that there is Indeed a first cause
and that this cause must be God. The universe only has beings that do not exist on their own
essence, that are not eternal or necessary, all beings in the universe need a cause. Beings that are
not self explanatory, eternal or necessary are called dependent or contingent. Furthermore, a being
who is self explanatory is called a necessary being. Dependent beings need causes. If the
independent being does not exist, then all the other dependent beings that rely on it will not exist.
Dependent beings do exist and therefore an independent being God, does

Zeffirelli Vs Branagh
Hamlet is one of Shakespeare s most well known and most frequently performed plays. Many
people have enjoyed reading and watching hamlet, both on stage and theatrically. Directors often
add different styles to their pieces to invoke different moods. These styles change as time
progresses; predominant in the comparison between Franco Zeffirelli s and Kenneth Branaghs
direction of William Shakespeares Hamletact 3 scene 1. Zeffirelli s interpretation of Shakespeare s
Hamlet act 3 scene 1 is more effective than Branagh s interpretation. Zeffirelli centralizes the play
around a dark setting and dark clothing style which puts emphasis on the sadness certain characters
are facing. Whereas Branagh uses more vibrant colors in clothing style and... Show more content on

Branagh s use of setting is not as effective as other cinematic depictions of the play, as it does not
fully enlighten the sad mood. Branagh s style of direction takes away the sad mood. To begin,
Branagh uses a colorful setting to take away the emphasis on the surrounding sadness, while
maintaining a sad mood. In Branagh s version his portrayal of the setting during the interaction
between Hamlet and Ophelia captures the sad mood. Branagh captures Hamlets movement
through an array of rare emotion as he takes in Ophelia s words. When Hamlet and Ophelia first
see each other, happy music and warm light and bright setting create a light, triumphant mood
that showcases their deep love. The statement I did love you once (3.1.14) is spoken with tears
in his eyes that capture Hamlet s love. When Ophelia s returns the tokens Hamlet shows his
feelings of betrayal and all of his emotions shift as he grapples at understanding. As Hamlet s
anger rises, the music shifts to match it. This interpretation suggests that with deep love comes
the ability to hurt each other deeply. Shortly after Ophelia s sorrowful speech helps aid in
developing a sad mood. The use of setting is not as effective as other depiction of the scene yet it
prevails in its intention of creating a sad mood. Next, the setting during Hamlet s soliloquy is
what establishes a sad mood. Branagh s makes Hamlet speaks his soliloquy steadily in a large
room filled with mirrors. Mirrors are often used to suggest self reflection and clarity. It is ironic
Branagh s emotionally susceptible Hamlet is associated with an item of reflection and clarity.
Branagh s Hamlet does not shift from suicidal to contemplative at the

Essay on analysis of She Walks in Beauty
Analysis of Byron s She Walks in Beauty
Lord George Gordon Byron was most notorious for his love affairs within his family and with
Mediterranean boys. Since he had problems such as incest and homosexuality, he did not mind
writing about his love for his cousin in She Walks in Beauty . Byron wrote the poem after he left
his wife and England forever. Byron made his own trend of personality, the idea of the Byronic
Hero . Byron s influence on European poetry, music, novels, operas, and paintings have been
immense, although the poet was widely condemned on moral grounds by his contemporaries (Dick,
54). Overall, the study focuses on the life of Lord George Gordon Byron, imagery, and about the
lyrics of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This attitude of self reliance is a distinguishing characteristic of both Lord Byron and his literary
figures (Parker, 88).
She Walks in Beauty starts off from a traditional picture of a lady as fair and bright. It links with
the brightness of daylight, in its comparison of the mistress to the night. The distinctive quality of
the poem derives not from any departure from the norm but from a graceful elaboration of the
conventions of compliment (Seifter, 82). Avoiding unoriginal or obvious similies, Byron uses
metaphors which expresses the idea of a quiet and slight glow. The mistress like the night/ Of
cloudless climes and starry skies (ll 1 2), not pitch dark but glimmering with a diffused light
(Seifter, 82). She is like a portrait in chiaroscuro , her face is copied through an interaction of light
and shadow.
Bhakta 3
Her hazy beauty makes daylight seem bright. Imagery drawn from painting continues as a poet
discusses the shades, rays, and tints that compose the mistress s particular radiance (Seifter, 82).
The flowing lines, rhymes, and imagery of light and dark give the impression of elegant and simple
compliment.
The poem starts off brilliantly. The first four lines are beautifully phrased, and the opening couplet
in particular has ingrained itself in the collective consciousness (Blair, 1). She walks in beauty, like
the night/ Of cloudless climes and starry skies;/ And all

Ukraine s Crisis Matters to the World Economy
Recently, Ukraine has fallen to times of turmoil, and the state of the economy is not helping
either. Originally, Ukraine wanted to make a trade agreement with Europe, perhaps also
bringing Ukraine closer to the European Union. This brought outage among its people, sparking
riots that are still present today. Plenty of people have been injured or even killed in these
uprisings, making it a deadly ordeal for officials to take control, or at least come up with a truce
to promote peace. A country in crisis both between its people and economically, could have a
negative effect not only on the countries immediately surrounding it, but the world as a whole.
The crisis in Ukraine is a serious issue and it effects everyone economically present in the world.
There are several areas that a crisis in a single country like Ukraine could pose a whole economic
domino effect throughout the rest of the world. The first major idea brought up in the article was
the importance of geography that Ukraine has tying Europeand Russia. Europe receives around
25% of its fuel from Russia. To fulfill all of the gas needs, the gas is transported through major
pipelines. One of these pipelines flows through the heart of Ukraine, which pumps half of the gas
Russia sends to Europe. Imagine if the pipeline were to shut down because of riots and other
political disputes that might follow. Even if the pipeline were to only shut down for a couple days
or a week, the economic impact on Europe would be

DBQ Nationalism And Sectionalism
Nicole Vindollo Mrs. Segal US History I/Pd. 9 23 March 2015 The Era of Good Feeling: The
Effects and Consequences of Nationalism and Sectionalism In 1815, shortly before the start of
James Monroe s presidency and after the War of 1812, a historical period known as the Era of Good
Feeling commenced in America. However, though the name of this age alone insinuated a time of
unity and prosperity within the nation, sectionalism became an unequivocal dilemma that seeped
through the government s attempts in promoting nationalism, and ultimately divided the country.
The Era of Good Feeling was a time where only one political party reigned, sense of unity
prevailed, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These developments in transportation allowed for easier distribution of goods, thus benefitting
them as well. However, the protective tariff prevented the South s economy from growing, thus
leading to an evident economic gap between the North and the South, as the former s economy
started to boom due to the increase in manufacturing. John Randolph argued, The agriculturalists
bear the whole brunt of the war and taxation, and remain poor, while the others run in the ring of
pleasure and fatten upon them (Document 1). The transportation on the other hand, was unwanted
by the South due to the vast plantations that the road and canal systems would interrupt. As
economic, social, and political differences between the country began to be more evident, the
government struggled even more to keep the country as one. In late 1819, Missouri requested for
admission into the union as a slave state. However, the issue between factions of proslavery and
antislavery already created high tension within the Congress, and would worsen if Missouri was
accepted as a slave state. Congress found solution in admitting Maine as a free state in order to
prevent the delicate balance between the two sections from being destroyed. The Missouri
Compromise also created an imaginary line across the Louisiana Territory as

  • 2. The Expansion Of Interest Groups The emergence of interest groups in the European Union weakened the union s overall power ; however, many politicians collaborate with them to gain an advantage. It is important to remember that interest groups are private firms, who can allocate their resources to provide studies for political actors. Interest groups provide policymaking expertise, and implementation and monitoring capacity, the potential for a consolidated collective viewpoint, and the potential to enhance legitimacy (Bache, Bulmer, George, Parker 2014, 310). With the acquired data, political actors can push forward stronger legislations built on concrete data. Interest groups pivotal role in the EU because they can use their resources to influence decision making in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consequently, interest groups resemble a double edged sword to the EU because although they can provide resources and information to public institutions, usually the largest groups will have the most influence. Moreover, the amount of resources available will secure insider status with the policy makers or remain outside the policy process. (Bache ,Bulmer, George, Parker 2014, 315). The firms who control insider status will indirectly possess some control about the policies discussed in the EU. However, large firms also carry a substantial amount of influence because of their economic power. For example, politicians will find their hands tied if they decide to rule against one of the largest job suppliers in a country despite huge strikes against them. As the author states, large firms find it easy to become privileged interlocutors of the political administrative system, thanks to their economic importance. (Bache ,Bulmer, George, Parker 2014, 316). The wealth and resources possessed by large firms make interest group politics a process where the strongest stay on top and dominate conversations. Therefore, although in the last decade s interest groups have advocated for positive social, environmental, and economic changes, their role is contested against business interest. Clearly, interest groups in the EU is ultimately very circumstantial because they can advocate anything from same sex marriages to fewer taxes on the rich. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the early 2000s, there was an astounding resurgence of interest in pop rock. This began in the year 2000 with the success of Blink 182 s song All the Small Things and Nine Days s song Absolutely (Story of a Girl) , both of which peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100. Hound Dog was the beginning of Elvis Presley s rock music career with songs such as jailhouse rock following. Presley brought a whole new type of fun to music with his unique style of dancing along with his upbeat loud songs. It is believed that the way Presley s songs reached out to young listeners was the kick start needed to shape rock into what it became in the late 1950 s onwards. THE BEATLES The Beatles music was the start of modern pop rock, as we know it today. From infectious melodies of innocent love to introspective Middle Eastern influences, psychedelic musings and talk of revolution The Beatles were the house band of the 1960s, paralleling, and at times even spearheading, the turbulent decade. They received amazing amounts of praise from people all over the world with one of the biggest fan bases seen in that era. This changed the way people viewed musicians and allowed rock music to become even more mainstream and popular. In the later years, The Beatles brought their music into the psychedelic rock genre with hits such as I Am The Walrus and Tomorrow Never Knows . • 5. Space Debris Research Paper Space Debris People were looking up at the night sky and dreaming about flying to the stars for over thousands of years. Myths and legends of many nations of the world are full of stories about the journeys to the Moon and the Sun. Currently, manned space crafts and space stations have become almost commonplace in everyday life. Space exploration is undoubtedly essential and necessary stage of the progress of human civilization, but it entailed all the negative aspects of anthropogenic activities. The atomic age polluted the huge space of the Earth, which requires billions of dollars for a cleanup. Now, it turned out that near Earth space became littered as well. In 1983, a smack particle hit the porthole of the space shuttle Challenger (Nelson 2014). It did not break through but left a noticeable imprint. After landing, craft specialists thoroughly inspected the damage and concluded that it was a chip of paint, which peeled off some other spacecraft. In general, the United States has the richest history of similar cases. One of the most famous incidents occurred with the Atlantis shuttle in 2006 when a small particle of debris pierced the radiator panel, one wall of the cargo hold, and ultimately stuck in the opposite one (Young 2006). The following year, the Endeavour shuttle got a hole of few inches in its hull. Another debris of 0.4 inches in diameter punctured the Hubble Space Telescope array (Pelton 2013). At the same time, other countries suffer from this problem as well and even worse. • 6. Essay about This Fleeting World This Fleeting World This Fleeting World takes about two hundred and fifty thousand years worth of history and compacts it into a one hundred and twenty page book. I believe Christian did a stellar job of doing so. Although short, it is very rich in knowledge about how our world came to be. His points are powerful and well put. This book definitely stands out in all the black and whiteness of history books. This fleeting world ties the start of humanity, to current life very efficiently. The moment the earth was made was when history was first conceived. The introduction tells us about the making of planet Earth, which sets up the scene for the arrival of the Foragers. Christian s book gives you a better understanding of the order of how the world began to fall in place. He allows us to know not only what and where, but also when, which is important in understanding our history. Starting out as Homo Sapiens, human kind has come a long way to become what we are today. I believe David Christian backs up his claims exceptionally with information. He creates an outstanding balance between fact and opinion. His opinions are always backed with reasonings and fact, which leave us very convinced and satisfied. For example; The emergence of new forms of radical anti Westernization is merely one reflection of growing resistance to Western values (Christian 88). He then backs up his claim in the next paragraph stating, In 1960 the wealthiest 20 percent of the world s population earned about thirty times as much as the poorest twenty percent; in 1991 the wealthiest twenty percent earned sixty one times as much (Christian 88). To prove his point, Christian applies opinions, facts, statistics, and judgement to stand next to his claims. He is a writer in accuracy, not just opinion. David Christian has indeed written a phenomenal book that breaks down our history into satisfactory proportions. It gives us a better grasp ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Accounting Standards For Business Affairs Introduction IFRS is a general global financial language for business affairs that s understandable globally and comparable across the international boundaries. IFRS initially was formed to harmonize accounting across European Union, but the value of harmonization was so overwhelming and attractive around the world that became a benchmark globally. Importance of Accounting Standards In this assignment I want to explain the importance of the Accounting standards. IFRS International Accounting standards board (IASB) with its capable team of professionals issues International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in order to deal with the problem of asymmetric information. The main purpose of standards is to provide information to the users as to the basis on which the accounts have been prepared to bring about uniformity in financial reporting and to ensure consistency in the data published by enterprises. The general idea is to harmonize accounting standards around the world, however there are contrasting views on the subject. With the rapid growth of international trade and internationalization of firms, the technological advancements and the emergence of international competitive forces is perturbing the financial environment largely. The businesses are badly in need of a common accounting language. A global financial reporting system is a prerequisite for attracting foreign investors. People whose investment grow internationally, want to be able to keep track of the financial health of the securities issuers. Convergence of accounting standards can provide the means to do so. • 10. The Pros And Cons Of Ethnography Ethnography is the systematic study of people and their cultures. It refers both to the process that is used to study people as well as the outcome of this process. The term ethnography comes from the Greek words ethnos (which means people or nation) and grapho (which means I write ). Ethnography has been around for several decades, although it became highly popular in the late 19th century. There have been several approaches to this study; Franz Boas, for example, preferred using documents and informants to learn more about other cultures. However, many ethnographers nowadays follow the approach of Bronislaw Malinowski, who believed that researchers should immerse themselves in the life of the people they were studying. Malinowski embodied this belief by going to Trobriand Island, living there for several years while he did his fieldwork, and even learning the language of the local people. It depends on the ethnographer s relationship with his subjects. Unlike most quantitative studies that can be done even with an impersonal relationship, ethnography requires researchers to be in close contact with his subjects and have a good one on one relationship with them. Building this relationship can be easy, but there are cases when the ethnographer would have a difficult time creating rapport with his subjects. This is particularly true for tribes that have not been in frequent contact with outsiders as well as groups of people don t take kindly to foreigners living in their lands. 4. • 11. Theme Of Fabliau In The Canterbury Tales A fabliau is aptly categorized as a scandalous tale meant to satirize the bourgeois through the depiction of bourgeois characters. This is the genre Chaucer writes The Miller s Tale, from his The Canterbury Tales, in so he can distinguish the social class levels of the people on the pilgrimage. Chaucer shows us the differences by paralleling then transforming certain aspects of this fabliau with the same elements of the chivalric romanceof the Knight s Tale. Fabliaux are salacious tales driven by elements such as deception to acquire money or possessions, to get sexual gratification, or to get revenge on somebody for a past wrong. The fabliau hinges upon an elaborate trick, set up with huge care in the story, contains the climax of the tale, and ends abruptly as the story itself ends. It is actually unknown whether the initial purpose of such a tale was for the nobility to mock the non aristocrats with whom they competed for status, or whether the bourgeois told fabliaux as an act of self mockery, to show how much the middle class has risen. In the Miller s prologue, we can infer that the Host wants the chronology of the storytelling to follow the levels of class; thus the reason why he solicits the Monk to tell a story after the noble Knight. The Host wants the Monk repay the Knight a little for his tale, but the inebriated Miller volunteers to pay the Knight his wages. Schools Should End Up Hurting American Students America has always been a place where people from all over the world have strived to travel in hopes of creating a better and more promising future for themselves. In today s classrooms, teachers are experiencing the culture and language related effects of that endeavor. With an increasing amount of non English speakers entering the country each year, the population of students who speak English as a second languageor no English at all increases as well. Not only are these students entering with knowledge of another language but they also enter with the history of another culture. These students are taught and raised to love their traditional languages and cultures. To take these aspects away from them in order to make them understand our way of life is not fair nor is it educationally beneficial. Some say foreigners need to assimilate because they are entering our country and by trying to accommodate their tradition, schools will end up hurting American students educational progress. This is not found to be true in as many cases as one would think though. By incorporating home or second language and diverse cultural exploration in combination with Standard English and American culture into the classroom, all students will benefit in multiple areas of learning and life. • 18. Diary Of A Madman, Ah Q, And An Unimportant Affair Lu Xun often makes a point to include the underlying cruelty found in Chinese culture within his stories. Using characters from Diary of a Madman, Ah Q, and an Unimportant Affair, I will explain why this topic stood out to me the most. In Diary of a Madman, the main character is a madman who writes about his delusions and lives with his older brother. Ah Q follows a man who is deemed simply as Ah Q. It describes his hardships, which are brought on by the cruelty of the society, as well as by his own doings. Lastly, in An Unimportant Affair the main character witnesses an event that changes his outlook on life and the society around him and makes him contemplate his motives. In Diary of a Madman, the main character has been locked in a room in his older brother s home. At one point, he claims he hasn t seen the moon in thirty years. He wants to see the world change and become a better place where everyone is safe and protect each other from being eaten . Ah Q demonstrates the distaste every culture has for the homeless and undesirable people in the societies. He is looked down upon and beaten, sometimes just for existing. Campbell South Iredell High School 007021 0006 Abstract Within the field of the visual arts, I investigated how the techniques and implications of the artworks of Ai Weiwei and Banksy are comparable. In order to answer this question, I observed and analyzed artworks from both artists, noting the pieces effects on the viewer (me), similar visual qualities, and common themes. This process included visiting museums, looking at artwork online, and reading about the contexts of the pieces. As art is constantly changing and evolving, it is important to comprehend the developments being made in how artists are expressing themselves and their ideas through their work. Furthermore, it is necessary to understand the role that artwork plays in modern political and social spheres. Art is an invaluable method of communicating different perspectives regarding significant problems in the world and their solutions. The relationship between the works of Ai Wei Wei and Banksy is significant to discuss. Both are contemporary artists who use their work to express thoughts and feelings regarding pertinent social or political issues. Image is very effective in capturing people s attention, and both artists take advantage of this to further their opinions on various issues. This topic relates to my pre existing knowledge because I am already familiar with these artists and their works, as well as how art can be used to communicate a certain message or idea. The works of Ai Weiwei and Banksy are particularly note worthy to me as they show the power of art, images, and creativity as a tool for communication and change in the 21st century. By examining these two artists side by side, I am made aware of how artistic methods are used by the two artists differently. This allows them to display a wide array of variety in their works, showing the diversity of ways in which art can be molded to serve different purposes. However, there are also ... Genetic Background Of 189 Ssd Lines In GWBP, the association mapping was conducted on the different genetic background of 189 SSD lines derived from a natural crossing between 11 parents (CГґte d Or/1 is one of them). The linkage disequilibrium and population structure of GWBP were described in detail by Sallam and Martsch (2015). Because Sallam and Martsch (2015) and Sallam et al. (2015a) confirmed that GWBP has low structure, we assume that GLM model fits with the analysis of association mapping. However, we presented marker trait association using MLM+K for AUPSC, LTAF, and LTCF. The results of association analysis revealed that 12 different significant markers were found to be associated with AUSPC, LTAF, LCAF (Table 3). It was difficult to determine the contribution of each parent of the GWBP (unlike BPP) because this population was derived from a natural crossing of 11 parents. However, the number of alleles (for the 12 significant markers, Table 3) associated with decreased frost stress symptoms in each founder line is presented in Figure S3A. This number ranged from four alleles inherited from Banner/1 to ten alleles from L979/1. This indicates that L979/1 is the main source of frost tolerance found in GWBP. Of 12 alleles, CГґte d Or/1 had eight alleles that were responsible for decreasing the effect of frost stress. Conversely, for each allele associated with a decrease in frost stress symptoms, the number of founder lines carrying that allele was determined (Figure S3B). This was done in order to ... Here I will stress some key points of color vision. 1)photoreceptors ( mainly cones, because rods are sensitive to low light level and blind to color) absorb light, and through photochemical reactions transfer solar energy to electrical energy which can be indirectly displayed as action potential of cells. There are three cones: L, M, S cones respectively. L cones are responsible to long wavelength; M for middle wavelength; and S for short wavelength. The typical receptive field of cones is center and surround pattern. For example, on center Receptive Field will maximally activate if the surrounding was dark and center was light on; the reverse is true for the off center RF. There are two complementary theories of color vision: One of them is the dominant and popular trichromatic theory, which argues that three types of cones (L, M, S) are sufficient to code the color vision. However, Hering raised a different theory color opponent theory. He argued that there were four elemental colors (R,Y, G, and B) not three. He also noted the pairing of R G, and of B Y. Three cone types provides input to two different color opponent ganglion cells. For example, the opponent neuron that produces the neural response we see as red or green gets excitation from the L cones and inhibition from the M cones. When the L cones are more active than the M ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to address a need of a higher level, the immediate lower level of need must be satisfied initially. This kind of minutiae based fingerprint recognition systems consists of two steps, i.e., minutiae extraction and minutiae matching. In the minutiae matching process, the minutiae feature of a given fingerprint is compared with the minutiae template, and the matched minutiae will be found out. If the matching score exceeds a predefined threshold, the two fingerprints can be regarded as belonging to a same finger.Such algorithms are the common ways to utilize the minutiae template for fingerprint recognition. In various works, the authors have often showed that these kinds of methods cannot provide enough distinguishing abilities for large scale fingerprint identification tasks hence the need for edge detection arises. In our study we have tried to integrate the edge detection technique with this minutia based method and tried to improve on the verification results of these algorithms. Edge Detection is used to curtail the patterns found in a fingerprint image so that weget only the most important information. Whenever there isspectacular and evident change of pixels in the binaryimage for example, from grey to white, we say an edge is present. A woman s innocence is coveted, as people go to great lengths to shield them from both the reality of death and the pleasures of sex. The lossof certain kinds of innocence, specifically sexual, can be seen as shameful for a woman, as opposed to the masculine pride a man may feel from the same events. Through the choice of point of view, plot, and tone, Walker depicts Myop in Flowers as finding more peace in her loss of innocence than Rose does in Wild Swans. Walker tells Myop s story in a third person omniscient point of view, but limits greatly the extent to which she discloses Myop s inner feelings. Only once does Walker refer to Myop as unafraid (Walker 76), giving us some insight into her thoughts. However, most of the story is told from a rather detached point of view, mostly noting Myop s actions and the setting around her. Myop s thoughts, then, must be gleaned from the events of the story. One sees in how Myop responds to the corpse casually plucking a flower from beside his head that while the corpse has stripped her of her innocence, she has become more mature through her experience. Myop understands and accepts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first cause argument is also known as the cosmological argument. The universe could not have come into being without something that started it. Therefore, this argument does show that God exists. This essay will analyse the first cause argument, provide proof of why God is shown that he exists by the first cause argument and, explore the objections and counter objections that people have when it comes to this argument. The first cause argument shows the existence of God through the statement that the universe must have a cause and as result, it is impossible for there to be an infinite cycle of causes so therefore, God exists because he is the first cause. The strength of this argument is that it indicates the need for something in order for there to be a beginning, but why conclude that this Something is God? I conclude that this ... Branagh s use of setting is not as effective as other cinematic depictions of the play, as it does not fully enlighten the sad mood. Branagh s style of direction takes away the sad mood. To begin, Branagh uses a colorful setting to take away the emphasis on the surrounding sadness, while maintaining a sad mood. In Branagh s version his portrayal of the setting during the interaction between Hamlet and Ophelia captures the sad mood. Branagh captures Hamlets movement through an array of rare emotion as he takes in Ophelia s words. When Hamlet and Ophelia first see each other, happy music and warm light and bright setting create a light, triumphant mood that showcases their deep love. The statement I did love you once (3.1.14) is spoken with tears in his eyes that capture Hamlet s love. When Ophelia s returns the tokens Hamlet shows his feelings of betrayal and all of his emotions shift as he grapples at understanding. As Hamlet s anger rises, the music shifts to match it. This interpretation suggests that with deep love comes the ability to hurt each other deeply. Shortly after Ophelia s sorrowful speech helps aid in developing a sad mood. The use of setting is not as effective as other depiction of the scene yet it prevails in its intention of creating a sad mood. Next, the setting during Hamlet s soliloquy is what establishes a sad mood. Branagh s makes Hamlet speaks his soliloquy steadily in a large room filled with mirrors. This attitude of self reliance is a distinguishing characteristic of both Lord Byron and his literary figures (Parker, 88). She Walks in Beauty starts off from a traditional picture of a lady as fair and bright. It links with the brightness of daylight, in its comparison of the mistress to the night. The distinctive quality of the poem derives not from any departure from the norm but from a graceful elaboration of the conventions of compliment (Seifter, 82). Avoiding unoriginal or obvious similies, Byron uses metaphors which expresses the idea of a quiet and slight glow. The mistress like the night/ Of cloudless climes and starry skies (ll 1 2), not pitch dark but glimmering with a diffused light (Seifter, 82). She is like a portrait in chiaroscuro , her face is copied through an interaction of light and shadow. Bhakta 3 Her hazy beauty makes daylight seem bright. Imagery drawn from painting continues as a poet discusses the shades, rays, and tints that compose the mistress s particular radiance (Seifter, 82). The flowing lines, rhymes, and imagery of light and dark give the impression of elegant and simple compliment. The poem starts off brilliantly. The first four lines are beautifully phrased, and the opening couplet in particular has ingrained itself in the collective consciousness (Blair, 1).
