What Does It Stand For Dna Research Paper
What does DNA stand for?
Deoxyribonucleic acid
What is DNA?
DNA also known as deoxyribonucleic acid is a complex molecule that carries the genetic information
in the cell, essential to build and maintain an organism.
The shape of the molecule is described as a double helix . The building blocks of DNA are
nucleotides. A nucleotide consists of one phosphate molecule, a five sided sugar molecule
(deoxyribose sugar), and one nitrogen base.
WHERE IS IT FOUND?
DNA is located throughout the body, inside organisms called eukaryotes. Which is found inside a
special area of the cell called the nucleus. Organisms have DNA molecules, tightly wound and
packaged as a chromosome. DNA is not only located in the nucleus, humans also have a small amount
of DNA in cell structure in mitochondria. For each DNA molecule that forms into a chromosome can
be seen as a set of shorter DNA sequences. These are the units of DNA function called genes.

Strands of the DNA are composed of a sugar and phosphate, portions of the nucleotides while the
middle parts of the DNA are made up of nitrogenous bases. The hydrogen bonds between phosphates
cause the DNA strand to twist. The nitrogenous bases point inward on the ladder and form pairs with
bases on the other side, like rungs. The nitrogenous bases on the two strands of DNA pair up, purine
with pyrimidine (adenine with thymine and guanine with cytosine) and are held together by hydrogen
bonds. DNA has a spiral staircase like structure. The steps are formed by the nitrogen bases of the
nucleotides where adenine pairs with thymine and cytosine with

The Causes of Muscoskeletal Pain
Summary From the mid 1980 s to present, the wealth of technology and automation has began to take
a toll on public health the work and home environments are inundated with technologies that require
little to no physical activity such as long commutes, the use of personal computers, television and
video games. Today more people work in offices, have longer work hours and are physically inactive.
This new environment produces unhealthy and non functional people and increased incidence of
injury. Past mandatory activities such as physically educated ar being cut from schools, consequently
people are less active and are no longer spending as much of their free time engaged in physical
activity. In 1985 the international obesity task force deemed the presidence of obesity an epidemic.
Today approx one third of adults are estimated to be obese, this carries over to the adolescent
population with 18 percent of adulenance and teenagers considered overweight. When working with
todays typical client and athletes health and fitness professionals must take special consideration when
designing exercise programmes. An integrated approach should be used to create a safe programme
that consider the functional capacity for each individual person. They must address factor such as;
appropriate forms of flexibility, increasing strength a neuromuscular control and training in different
types of environments. These are the bases for using corrective exercise and the Nasm s corrective

Early North American Culture Analysis
Based on the readings this semester, many things make interesting connections between today s
cultures and early North American cultures. Three authors illustrate these connections very well:
Olaudah Equiano, Roger Williams, and Anne Bradstreet. The authors give specific examples of what
people did on a normal basis as well as what their norms were; these examples were well enough
explained to be compared to today. Equiano s examples will hit home for most as he explains his
norms versus what today s people see as completely okay. Equiano gives example of cultural issues
that are currently very touchy subjects such as circumcision, Williams explains the way that the
population decided their own name and different things that they discovered such as constellations,
and Bradstreet shows different ways ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He talks about circumcision of a male infant, washing hands before eating, and women being around
men all the time. These are just a few of the examples he gives that relate to the culture today.
Circumcision is a hot topic; parents are starting to question whether it is as good for the child as it has
always said to be. In the early North American days it was said to be the best thing to do for a male
infant, now parents are thinking it through a little more and actually looking at the pros and cons to
circumcising their new baby. There are pros and cons to all things, but washing your hands is all pros.
Hand washing is something everyone struggles with, but is necessary to maintain good health. Hand
washing is the number one key to keeping infection and sickness down to a low percentage. Hand
washing is something that Equiano seen as a normal thing to do until he came to the new America;
people did not do such a thing here. Equiano was startled by this and questioned why this was not
done. Hand washing is still very important today and will continue to

Importance Of Primary And Secondary Socialisation
Unit 4 Learning aim A What is primary and secondary socialisation? In the midst of basic
socialisation, youths take in different crucial things that they ought to function as they create. These
lessons are discovered not simply by direct instructing, like how to scrutinise and make, moreover
roundabout by viewing friends and family. Children can get practices, traditions and acknowledge
what is ordinary from them through facilitated and underhanded correspondence. Discretionary
socialisation can be all the more difficult to recognise or encounter. Exactly when youths are in
fundamental stages, they are recognised really whether they get things right or not. When they
accomplish the helper organise, that is not the circumstance. For example, biological Standards and
Values under worry from changes, can affect an individual, gathering, society or social point of view.
Change or deviation when joined with poor or unreasonable judgment that sits outside the Standards
and Values of either, a particular Culture or Belief System, can have a soiled level of effects. Why is
primary and secondary socialisation important? Essential socialisation happens when a kid takes in the
dispositions, values, and activities proper to people as individuals from a specific culture. Optional
socialisation alludes to the way toward realising what the proper conduct of an individual from a litter
gathering inside the bigger society is. Why is socialisation important? Essential

name, investors have begun to take note of Uber during the past year as it has stolen market share
from traditional transportation companies. We will analyze the value proposition of its technology and

This is very convenient for business accounts, which is preferred when entertaining customers. The
final and most controversial pricing structure is Uber s use of dynamic pricing for high volume days
such as New Year s or Halloween and also during inclement weather conditions. Uber notifies
customers of the increased pricing structure when ordering a car in an effort to reduce demand, but
because fares are computed after the service is complete, this pricing structure has become very
controversial. Technology Technology can be divided into two components, the app technology for
consumers and the demand calculation technology at the firm. The app technology is available for
iPhone/Android devices and uses GPS from the requested pickup destination to display a map of all
available Uber cars in the area. Uber calculates the nearest driver and plots your pickup time
accordingly (see right). Each driver is also given an iPhone with an app to manage incoming customer
requests. The firm employs prediction algorithms and heat maps to predict expected demand at
different times of the day. It analyzes how many times the app is open and where clusters are located
to help manage taxi supply and demand. The result: shorter waits for riders and busier, more efficient
days for drivers . Another source of operations management is what the

Java Programming
Introduction
Java was developed by a team led by James Gosling at Sun Microsystems. Originally called Oak, it
was designed in 1991 for use in embedded consumer electronic appliances. In 1995, renamed Java, it
was redesigned for developing Internet applications.
Java is a full featured, general purpose programming language that is capable of developing robust
mission critical applications. Today, it is used not only for Web programming, but also for developing
standalone applications across platforms on servers, desktops, and mobile devices. It was used to
develop the code to communicate with and control the robotic rover that rolled on Mars. Many
companies that once considered Java to be more hype than substance are now using it to create ...

Note
In addition to the two comment styles, // and /*, Java supports comments of a special type, referred to
as javadoc comments. javadoc comments begin with /** and end with */. They are used for
documenting classes, data, and methods. They can be extracted into an HTML file using JDK s
javadoc command.
1.10.2. Reserved Words
Reserved words, or keywords, are words that have a specific meaning to the compiler and cannot be
used for other purposes in the program. For example, when the compiler sees the word class, it
understands that the word after class is the name for the class. Other reserved words in Listing 1.1 are
public, static, and void. Their use will be introduced later in the book.
Tip
Because Java is case sensitive, public is a reserved word, but Public is not. Nonetheless, for clarity and
readability, it would be best to avoid using reserved words in other forms.
1.10.3. Modifiers
Java uses certain reserved words called modifiers that specify the properties of the data, methods, and
classes and how they can be used. Examples of modifiers are public and static. Other modifiers are
private, final, abstract, and protected. A public datum, method, or class can be accessed by other
classes. A private datum or method cannot be accessed by other classes.
1.10.4. Statements
A statement represents an action or a sequence of actions. The statement System.out.println( Welcome
to Java! ); in the program in Listing 1.1 is a statement to

The Handmaid s Tail Analysis
The women in The Handmaid s tail are subjected to atrocities that have demoralized their society.
They are treated like objects that exist solely for fulfilling a physical task, and it has resulted in the
disparagement of their self worth and confidence. Offred alludes to accusing censorship for how their
society has been shifted. Censorship has for years been the method for how authorities have controlled
masses and lead them to believe ideas that differ from the truth. For example, during the Vietnam War
the US government inhibited media from covering the atrocities and menace of the Vietcong for the
sake of maintaining the support of Americans and preventing insurgency. The prowess of censorship is
commonly accentuated in literature, and

not that thing in your closet or under your bed or in a scary movie, but they are the ones that we see
every day in every magazine, blog, and commercial. They are the ones with the biggest platform to

repeat offenders of cultural appropriation, which entails a majority group taking something form a

for their imitation of black culture. Not to long ago, Julee Wilson, of HuffingtonPost.com, exposed a
magazine company for naming Kendall Jenner fashionista of the week for taking braids to a whole
new level. All she had was cornrows, a simple style used by blacks for centuries. In an attempt to
seem cultured the Kardashian clan ridicules other cultures. Another example is when Kylie Jenner
admitted she had lip filler, Kylie got lots of praise, she even got credited for starting a new trend of
fuller lips. Once again this is already apart of someone else culture. Niki McGloster, from
Elitedaily.com, stated that while Kylie received praise for ballooning her lips with collagen fillers, the
African American girls who have had full luscious lips their whole life got made fun of and teased.
But now since Kylie Jenner has deemed this to be cool, fuller lips are now appreciated. Lastly, when

Warning labels help people know what they re eating. People need to know what they re eating so they
won t get sick. According to www.debate.org 69% of people think that fast foods shouldnt have
warning labels. Basically some people think fast foods should have warning labels but others don t see
the point.
Then, I believe that warning labels should be on fast foods because we need to know what we are
eating. It s also important that we take care of our bodies instead of filling it with hormones. We all
can t eat the same meats so it s important to eat only what we can that won t cause us to have
problems. I feel so strongly because it s very easy to have health problems or an allergic reaction. If
warning labels are on these fast foods, these problems wouldn t occur.
Furthermore, to solve this problem the public is having, fast food restaurants need to put warning
labels on their food. This way, the public will stop complaining about all of the issues they keep
having with fast foods. If someone was to get get sick, they couldn t get sued because the warning
label would be on the food. In this case everyone are on the same page and aware of what they re

Effects Of The Prevalence Of Calcium On An Aging Population
Introduction:
Osteoporosis is a disease where bone tissue deteriorates resulting in reduced bone mineral density
(BMD). This can lead to bone fragility and an increased risk of fractures (1). This disease is a growing
concern in today s society, particularly in women over 50 years of age (2). It is predicted that the
number of cases of osteoporosis will continue to increase due to an aging population (3). Nutritional
intake is a major contributor to the disease. In particular, a lack of dietary calcium, a nutrient critical to
bone development, is a major factor in the development of osteoporosis (4). Those who practice
veganism, a dietary practice that omits dairy (i.e. a significant source of calcium), are at high risk of
developing this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this research design, the focus will be on female adolescent vegans. The main focal point will be
on the consumption of dairy products and the resulting adequacy of calcium in the diet. The possible
decrease of calcium associated with veganism may impact calcium intake and thus have an impact on
an individual s future bone health.
Method:
The proposed study will use dietary and anthropometric assessment methods to evaluate the
prevalence of calcium in an adolescent female vegan s diet. The purpose will be to determine if the
amount of calcium consumed has an impact on bone mineral density (BMD).
Participants: This study will recruit 100 females, ages 14 to 18, with approximately 20 individuals of
each age. The age range of the sample population was determined based on the Dietary Reference
Intake (DRI) cutoff ages. The minimum age requirement (14 years old) relates to the average age
females reach menarche. Menarche plays a role in bone growth and development. After menarche
occurs, bone growth often increases (7). All participants must have practiced veganism for at least one
year prior in order to take part in the study. This will ensure that participants are committed to
following a vegan diet. Knurick, Johnston, Wherry and Aguayo (2015) adopted a one year
requirement, when they studied the impact of lacto ovo, vegan, and omnivore diets on bone health. All
participants must have a body mass index (BMI) that falls within

First Steps in Beginning Language Intervention
Summary The topic for today s reading was 1st Steps in Beginning Language Intervention. The first
assigned reading, Errorless Teaching and the Use of Transfer Procedures, established that the
difference between a great Applied Behavior Analysis program and a mediocre program is often in the
details of correct prompting procedures. It s important when teaching a child with autism or any
developmental delay that you not only know the science of ABA and the conceptual analysis of VB,
but also that you can deliver accurate and appropriate therapy. Prompts are the little nudges or hints
that will increase the likelihood of a correct response from your child. The bases of prompting include
the several difference types of prompts, and a hierarchy to identify how invasive the prompt is. For a
child to be successful is better to use the least intrusive prompt, such as physical prompt (partial
physical prompt), gestural prompts (model or imitative prompt/partial imitative prompt), and other
prompts (visual and textual prompts). Also this reading pointed out how too many antecedents and a
non invasive prompt cause the child to not complete the task that he is being asked to do and in to
reinforced the child s non compliance, such as the example of Lucas and his dad with the control
remote after Lucas has shortly begun his ABA therapy. When giving an instruction it s best to give
only one antecedent, expect only one behavior, and delivery only one consequence. Giving too much

In America the Women s Liberation movement has been embraced by how women are valued for
more than baring children, but we often do not consider the ramifications the transition has had on our
society. Feminist Marlene Dixon has said that although women have done wonderful work in ending
oppression for themselves, oppression still exist, only in psychological sense of the word. Dixon
writes, Individualized struggles between men and women around the oppressive attitudes and
objective sexual and social privileges is the consequence of the psychological oppression that is taking
place in the minds of women, and men, who are being hyper sexualized in the need for attention.
Taking into consideration the amount of emphasis is placed on a woman s sex appeal Dixons ideas
cannot be disregarded. With women increasing their assets in the work force and decreasing a mans
need in relationships, women are marketing their bodies to prove that they are still can be desirable
and relying on the opposite sex. By allowing ourselves to be used as sexual properties in advertising it
is giving men and other women the notion that women are only desirable if they can be physically
attracted to the masses. As feminist, and women these sexual barriers need to be brought down to

Analysis Of The Plague Of Doves
Pluto, North Dakota does not exist. It is not a current town in the United States, nor are there any
records of any area in North Dakota referring to itself as Pluto. By inventing this setting for the 2008
novel The Plague of Doves, author Louise Erdrich gives herself incredible freedom to develop a
limitless narrative. Readers familiar with the general reputation of North Dakota will recognize many
of the expectations. Erdrich s town of Pluto is rural and conservative, with persistently palpable
tension between the predominantly Caucasian population and the victimized minority of ethnically
Native Americans. Much about the plot and perspective of this novel seems to rely on its structure
around many narrators. The Plague of Doves is told from multiple perspectives and the timelines jump
indiscriminately, sometimes with plots separated by decades seeming to exist in tandem. While these
literary elements are remarkable, informative, and provide the novel with a significantly unique
identity, the importance of setting cannot be overlooked. As focus oscillates between narrators and
time periods, it is the fictional town of Pluto that remains the foundational factor. Without this shared
setting, the novel could unravel into disparate themes. Yet readers subconsciously recognize the
importance of place. As the crimes and social injustices repeatedly occur in a central location, the
novel becomes less about the people and more about the legacy they inherit. The characters

Summary Of The NovelThe Devil s Rooming House
The Devil s Rooming House is the interesting story of Amy Archer Gilligan, America s deadliest
female serial killer. Written by M. William Phelps, this book brings to light the story of the woman
who ran a murder house over one hundred years ago. The case of Amy is a fascinating one because of
her motive, money. She opened a nursing home for the elderly and then murdered her clients for
financial gain. Amy Archer Gilligan put a lot of planning into her killings, this is her story.
As any businessperson knows, if you can match service with customer need there s opportunity for
profit. For Amy Archer Gilligan, that opportunity came with the elderly. Amy Archer Gilligan
presented herself to the world as this very innocent Christian woman. She projected herself as a
caretaker who wanted to just take care of the sick and make a living at it. M William Phelps wrote in
this book how he believed that Amy s customers were sold the perfect pitch. He spoke very highly of
her marketing skills and how she sold the idea to so many people. In 1907, Amy was ahead of her time
launching one of New England s first nursing homes. She was a pioneer of elderly care at the Turner s
century in New England. Amy kind of pioneered the whole idea of nursing elderly people which later
turns into proper nursing homes. This was the kind of thing seniors signed up for. They wanted a
peaceful caring home in which to spend their last few years. The marketing ploy was simple, they
would pay a thousand dollars and in return, Amy gave them life care. Life care meant they stayed in
the home she took care of them, fed them, clothed them, and gave them medicines. There was no time
limit. As long as the customers lived, Amy promised to care for them. Even though it seemed too good
to be true, people lined up. Clients and their families hoped for a long and restful life but Amy s
business plan called for something else, turnover. Let s set the scene, picture a calm and peaceful New
England night. Patients are getting themselves ready for bed and they ve just finished dinner. Amy
Archer Gilligan is in the kitchen mixing up a batch of warm lemonade, which back then was a remedy

The Great Gatsby Dishonesty Quotes Analysis
The Great Gatsby; F. Scott Fitzgerald
Without rules and regulations the wealthy can live very extravagant lushes lives but there are
consequences for dishonesty. In F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby dishonesty supplies a method
of creating escape from consequence for the wealthy. The wealthy feels as if they are better than the
other classes and can lie. Without consequences, Fitzgerald shows this by using diction to show how
dishonest behavior, manmade privileges, and social mannerisms cause the wealthy to live recklessly
without consequences. Throughout this book gatsby s choice lead him to his ultimate downfall.
Gatsby s life has been told many ways and he has not been honest to many people about it, leading to
the end of the book where there are a series of events that inevitably kill Jay Gatsby. Was Daisy
driving? Yes, he said after a moment, but of course I ll say I was ... (Fitzgerald 15). The paradoxical
idea of who was driving the car and the lie Gatsby will tell, enforces the idea of dishonest behavior.

How Is Figurative Language Used In Emily Dickinson s Poetry
Emily Dickinson was one of the most amazing poets that ever lived. Though her work did not start to

some of the greatest poems. Dickinson was a poet who used the words of her poems to describe a
feeling not just saying he or she is lonely or happy. A reader is able to see this in all of her work but
for me it stands out in two of her poems that seem to have the same meaning but the way the emotion
is portrayed is different in both of them. Loneliness is portrayed in both There s a certain Slant of light

Dickinson usually uses four line stanzas which is true in both of the poems I have chosen. This allows
for more enhancement on the words that she chooses. Along with the uses of four line stanzas, she
seems to put more emphasis on certain words by capitalizing them. This could mean that these words
are meant to have more meaning and read more strongly or it could just be the way she was writing. It
seems to be words that would have more meaning towards them. For example in There s a certain
Slant of light , some of the words that are capitalized are Heavenly Hurt , Meanings , Despair ,
Distance , and Death . All of these words would seem to be words that would use more meaning since
the poem is about loneliness and alienation. Along with There s a certain Slant of light , The Soul
selects her own Society has capitalization on words that would not normally be capitalized. Some of
these words are Soul , Door , Present , Unmoved , and Stone . With these words being capitalized, it
appears that Dickinson wanted more emphasis on them making them stand out to the reader. Her
structure gets even more diverse than other poets because she uses the dashes in all of her poems.
Although the translators were unsure if that s what they actually were based on her hand writing, it is
still something that makes her stand out as a poet. The use of the dashes add a

The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber By Hemingway
In Hemingway s short story, The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber Hemingway uses the writer
s craft of perspective to develop the characterization of the three main protagonists.Wilson, Mrs.
Macomber, and Macomber s characterization is developed through multiple perspectives which create
a negative tone throughout the story.
First, Mr. Wilson is presented as a judgemental, professional hunter that slowly shifts and changes in
how he feels to Macomber. Wilson s judgemental side is presented through his internal dialogue and
how he feels about Macomber. On Page 4 he says So he s a bloody four letter man as well as a bloody
coward. I rather liked him too until today. But how is one to know about an American? Wilson get s

Macomber is a cruel and remorseless person who won t leave Macomber. However, later in the story
Mrs. Macomber starts to shift in her personality and starts to get afraid of what is to come. On page 4
Mrs. Macomber is being cruel and says What importance is there to whether Francis is any good at
killing lions? That s not his trade. That s Mr. Wilson s trade. Mr. Wilson is really very impressive
killing anything. Here, Mrs. Macomber is directly humiliating her husband through her comparison of
Macomber to Wilson. She is trying to undermine Macomber and make him feel ill about the lion
because she is mad about the incident. Through Hemingway s use of a third person narrator the
readers able to see how Mrs. Macomber hates and disrespects her husband for what he did. The
dialogue of Mrs. Macomber shows the readers what she does daily and how he had had to put up with
it for his whole marriage. Later, Mrs Macomber and Macomber have a row but both of them come to
the same conclusion, that they won t leave each other. It s the morning after Mrs. Macomber slept with
Wilson and Macomber is getting riled up. Mrs. Macomber then says If you make a scene I ll leave
you, darling, she adds on later No, she said. I won t leave you and you ll behave yourself (Page 24).
This shows how Macomber is mad about the way her husband is acting and threatens him because of
it. Then, the readers see how even if they both say that they both won t leave other. Mrs Macomber is
there for Macomber s wealth while Macomber is their for Mrs. Macomber s beauty. The dialogue
between the couple shows the readers how they want to leave but both know that they won t. This use
of insight into the characters reactions to each other makes the story way much deeper and gets the
readers more involved. After the row, Macomber starts to change which makes Mrs. Macomber
nervous and scared. Mr. Macomber is changing and Mrs. Macomber is getting nervous. She then

Racial Identity and Racial Isolation
Racial Identity
Racial identity (passing) alludes to an individual considered a part of one racial assembly additionally
acknowledged as a part of an alternate racial gathering. The term was utilized particularly as a part of
the U.S. to portray an individual of blended race legacy acclimatizing into the white larger part
throughout times when lawful and social meetings of hypo descent arranged the individual as a
minority, subject to racial isolation and segregation (Smedley).
People are made to feel their racial identify on the basis of their cast, ethnicity, race and color. White is
given more preference over the black due to their lighter shade. The author uses the example of the
swimming pool where he was not given permission to swim and was only allowed to swim on
Thursdays with a tight shopping bag around him. These restrictions were laid upon him when he was a
youngster.

The Many Voices of Folk Music
To some the term folk music was the music of peasants . Pete Seeger, who was nicknamed the father
of American folk music, by Bruce Springsteen, did not like that term, because he was no peasant.
Seeger marched with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and led environmental campaigns. According
to the video, Seeger said that participating is the main thing in his life, and it is our only hope. I liked
the part where he said that education should not just admiring what others have done, and that
everyone should get involved. In an article, I read Seeger pointed out that music would not save the

Communist Party, and he was convicted of contempt of Congress, his conviction was overturned in

Propaganda In The Outskirts
Being compassionate to individuals of their larger enemies such as Germany can be debated in
Outskirts. The reason for this is scenes such as the one at 1:19:00 where a group of Russian
shoemakers attack the German prisoner of war does not show individual compassion. A possibility for
the demonstration of this behavior is to make sure the viewers of this film see how the people of this
film are not perfect, so they can better connect. It is very important for the realism aspect of this type
of filmmaking so that the viewers won t see the films write off the films as extremely clear acts of

In Outskirts the livelihood of the Russians is not all that great. There is a clear separation in the high
and mighty factory owners and the much poorer shoemakers. While this is potentially an intentional
point that Barnet is trying to make, it seems more like an honest representation of what the real
workers live like. The point that Barnet could be trying to make is the idea that the factory owners,
who are overall the bad people in this film, are supposed to be shunned for trying to be better than the
rest of the people. This inequality could be the idea Barnet is representing by showing the class
difference. If this is so it is seen similarly in The Outskirts which has many scenes showing the
significant difference between the lifestyle of the the higher ups who made the decisions for the
farmers, and the farmers in their village. There is a scene when the farmers reach the final stage where
the owner of all the oil fields mentions how his table is worth more than the entire village, which is

Bank Solutions Inc. Security Plan Essay
Introduction Bank SolutionsInc. is in need of a tailored IT security plan for strategic advantage,
regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation. As an organization that relies on IT for innovation and
technical advantage, it is essential to invest in necessary security controls. This will ensure the
infrastructure supports a layered security posture to detect, deter, eliminate or reduce as many
vulnerabilities and exposure as possible. It is the responsibility of executive management to determine
the amount of exposure and risk their organization is willing to accept.
Objectives
The main objectives of this security plan are to describe a security strategy and identify recommended
technologies to ensure Bank Solutions has the ability to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To ensure that these technologies are implemented and administered properly, it is essential that
policies be written and training provided for an effective security program. Here are the following
recommended technologies that Bank Solution s should incorporate into its security plan.
Vulnerability Scanning
Vulnerability Scanning is the art of using one computer to look for weaknesses in the security of
another computer (Houghton, 2003). Just like any other security tool or software available, there are
many forms of vulnerability scanning. Each of these methods provides a specific task to help an
organization determine the security of their networks. These forms of vulnerability scanning are
called:
External
Internal
Active
Passive
These forms of vulnerability scanning are then applied by two types of vulnerability scanners that scan
an organization s network, they are:
Network based
Host based
Finally, the most important thing to understand about vulnerability scanning is that it is a requirement
for Bank Solutions to conduct these scans to meet compliance with Federal regulations.
Costs
The costs for vulnerability scanners run from free to tens of thousands of dollars. It is up to the CISO
and the IT staff to assess what services they require and to choose a scanner that best fits their

The Abstract Latent Factor ( Lf ) Models
 Abstract Latent factor (LF) models have proven to be accurate and efficient in extracting hidden
knowledge from high dimensional and sparse (HiDS) matrices. However, most
LF models fail to fulfill the non negativity constraints that reflect the non negative nature of industrial
data. Yet existing non negative LF models for HiDS matrices suffer from slow convergence leading to
considerable time cost. An alternating direction method based non negative latent factor (ANLF)
model decomposes a non negative optimization process into small sub tasks. It updates each LF non
negatively based on the latest state of those trained before, thereby achieving fast convergence and
maintaining high prediction accuracy and scalability. This paper ... Show more content on

Relationships In George Eliot s Middlemarch
Relationships are always undoubtedly complex and dysfunctional. George Eliot, in this excerpt from
the novel Middlemarch, thoroughly portrays many of these intricacies of relationships through a
husband and a wife: Rosamond and Tertius Lydgate. This relationship s dysfunctionalities are revealed
through a financial conflict which brings to light their underlying thoughts toward each other. Eliot
makes certain to portray Tertius as the dominant and strategically manipulative character while
Rosamond is the weak, ignorant and oblivious one. Through these distinct personalities, Eliot shows
how these characters react oppositely to each other when they clash from an economic struggle,
stemming from a small disagreement. Eliot portrays Rosamond ... Show more content on

again indicates her physically coming back to him and trusting him. Even as their argument
deteriorates once again, she Sat perfectly still (77) conveying the idea that she is complying, at least
outwardly, to Lydgate s statements and his argument although she may still disagree with it. Although
Eliot is able to convey Rosamond and Tertius subtle reactions between each other through body

underlying conflicts between each other, one specifically being Tertius struggle in feeling superior to
Rosamond, and his strategic reactions because of it.

Impressionism In Claude Monet
One may consider Claude Monet s Impression, Sunrise (Fig.1) his most crucial work throughout his
career as an artist. This artwork was made in the year 1872 and the medium used in the creation of this
work was oil on canvas. In the book, Monet: The Ultimate Impressionist, it is stated that the work was
more focused on capturing the experience of a moment than realistically rendering a scene (Patin 39).
This illustrates the basis from which Impressionism defines itself. Instead of expressing a realistic
portrait of the harbour, Claude Monet chose to demonstrate it in an expressive manner. Whilst doing
this, he makes use of the contrasting effects of the rising sun and the bluish water, representing the sun
as a prominent subject in the painting. The work plays with the disparity of the faint bluish tones of
the area with the bright orange tone of the sun, illustrating how Claude Monet makes use of the
nuances of light to create this effect. Despite the contrast ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every aspect of the painting is depicted in respect to light. What the Impressionist painters actually
accomplished was the finding of a form closer to the first impression for the appearance of things than
other painters had. And it was closer because of their vivid sensibility whereby they understood the
absolute value in art of the appearance, and their mind was sufficiently free of traditional principles of
abstract form to undervalue their impressions (Venturi 38) Rather than saying that Monet depicted the
work s subjects in abstract forms, he expressed them with the intention of representing them in forms
closer to his first impressions of them such as the figures of the boats and the people portrayed on the
water s surface. In respect to this, he defines their figures relatively to the variations of lighting,

Analysis Of J. Donald O Meara
J. Donald O Meara (1989) defines cross sex friendship as a personal relationship between an unrelated
man and woman who share no romantic feelings towards each other. He broadens his definition by
allowing that a lack of romance does not necessarily entail a lack of sexuality or passion. This
understanding allows for the possibility of sexual attraction, but not romantic attraction. Other
definitions prohibit all forms of sexuality, passion, and romance, while still others allow them. In cross
sex friendships where sexual and/or romantic attraction exists, what role do they play in the
relationship? Do they end friendships immediately upon dissolution of the attraction? Or do they
enhance the quality and longevity, bringing the dyad closer together? This paper aims to answer those
questions, assuming sexual and romantic attractions are both permitted in classifying cross sex
friendships. The frequency of sexual attraction in heterosexual cross sex friendships differs between
males and females, as does that of romantic attraction. Sexual boundaries are not clearly defined in
these relationships, adding to the complications and ambiguity for both members of the dyad (Bleske
Buss, 2000). Moreover, there are several different types of love, and many levels of attraction.
Rawlins (1982) describes platonic love (emotional relationship without a sexual component),
friendship love (emotional and sexual expressions of affection; potentially unstable), physical love
(sexual

Endeavors to rein in the runaway expense of human services must concentrate on fitting, yet

Cancer is tumor disease that involves the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cell in any part of the body
without being detected. Millions of deaths are being caused by this vicious disease per year. Not only
is its diagnosis risky but its classification is an equally difficult challenge. In our task we have

U.s. Department Of Veterans
No military in the history of the world has been more widely deployed than the United States. The
United States currently has troops stationed in 150 countries, and each year thousands of American
citizens are sent abroad for active duty. However, the mental health of veterans are not taken into
consideration when they return home. Many have been exposed to prolonged periods of combat
related stress or traumatic events that can lead to severe disorders, such as post traumatic stress

of their lives. Groups such as the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America are advocating for change
due to the high suicide rates of veterans who are not receiving adequate help for their conditions. It is
estimated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that 22 veterans commit suicide every day
after a long struggle with the physical and mental tolls of war. However, the U.S. Department of

The Theme Of Blindness In Cathedral By Raymond Carver
As we gain knowledge we gain understanding, giving us a different view of the world. In the story,
Cathedral by Raymond Carver, the author takes us through a day in the life of a husband who is forced
by his wife to meet and entertain her longtime friend Robert who happens to be blind. The husband is
not exactly excited by this visit. The author illustrates the characters development beginning as
apprehensive and jealous, transitioning to more of an uncomfortable feeling, and finally ending with
acceptance as the husband is put into a situation where he gains a new understanding of the blind man.
He ends the story with his eyes closed and a mind open to a new view of the world.
As the story begins, the author seems to portray the main character as apprehensive and jealous. As he
narrates the story, the husband opens with a blunt statement, his being blind bothered me. (34) It
immediately gives the reader the impression that he was very upset about the situation he was put in.
The husband seems more concerned with the fact that the man is blind and states later that his idea of
blindness came from movies. (34) Giving once again an example of how uncomfortable and really
uninformed he was. The husband has a stereotypical view of what a blind person should be like and
sticks to those thoughts throughout the beginning of the story. This gives the impression that he feels
that blindness is more of a handicap and make Robert unrelatable. He also seemed to be jealous of the

The Stereotypes Of Racial Stereotypes Essay
Racial stereotypes have always been a serious issue in society. The stereotypes impact many aspects of
our life. We more or less get carried away by our perceptions toward race, and judge people in a
certain frame unconsciously, as Omi set forth in In Living Color: Race and American Culture. Taken
by Hilary Swift, this photo presents an African American woman, waiting for a bus that can take her to
the Kitchen of Love, a food pantry that located in Philadelphia aiming to feed people suffering from
hunger, where she volunteers. It happens in dawn so it s still dark outside. The surroundings give us an
idea that it should take place in a black neighborhood (Stolberg Black Voters, Aghast at Trump, Find a
Place of Food and Comfort ). The woman is staring at the direction where the bus is coming, with a
smile on her face. As a photojournalistic image, this photo is aiming to portrait a kind and helpful
African American woman, however, does this photo really positively portrait an African American
woman?
At first sight, the photo indeed implies the theme that this African American woman looking forward
to helping out the other people in need the community. The color is desaturated and the darkness takes
over most part of the picture, which serves as a foil to the woman s florescent pink jacket. Though the

A. INTRODUCTION: Founded in 1993, a vision was brought upon five entrepreneurs. Their names
are Greg Provenzano, Tony Cupisz, Mike Cupisz, and Robert Stevanovski, and Onur Edipov. We were
tired of working for others and decided to change our lives forever. We started a company called ACN,
(American Communications Network) everyone with a business mind set has one goal, and to work
for something by they want to be part of. How can you do that? Simple! Create your own company. B.
STUDY OBJECTIVES AND THE HOME COMPANY: In the beginning, ACN was only working
with helping customers by reselling long distance services in the U.S and over time we expanded to
over 25 countries and we offer all the essential services customers already use. At ... Show more

Our company is partnered with Project Feeding the Kids, as well as others like Ronald McDonald.
When we acquire customers and they set up an ACN customer, a child gets fed. And when you pay
your select ACN bills each month, another child gets fed. What better feeling can you get knowing
you are helping over a million kids get fed each year when over 17 million don t know where they are
getting there next meal from. The company conducts there sales by using multilevel marketing.
(MLM) This is a method of product and service distribution. This process is often mixed with a
pyramid scheme. The difference is 1. We don t sell or hold product, 2. All of our IBOs are working for
themselves. They make there own rewards by finding new customers and getting partners. Each level
of customers and partners contributes for there own wealth. I am one of the Co founders of the
company and my role is to work with all our international headquarters and set base in new countries.
This way we can help the country prosper in business growth and savings for the general population in
whole. Each country we interact with involves different services. In North America, we work with
telecommunications, gas, electricity, and water. In the U.S we are located in in Concord, North
Carolina. The facility is about 17 acres and extends over 140 000 square feet. This location is known
as the central support system for ACN s North American operation. To add to the World

Over the years Gansberg s article brought about debunkers that claimed fewer than thirty eight people
actually saw what happened to Kitty. Pelonero researched for herself through police reports, trail
transcripts and reading through statements made by witnesses. In doing so Pelonero found that instead
of bringing a new light on the case it their statements produced a watered down version of the murder.
Pelonero s article does a good job stiffing through Gansberg article presenting the errors within his
article like the fact that he stated there were three attacks, but Winston Moseley confessed in court that
he attacked her twice. Pelonero speaks about the origin of the number thirty eight which is a big point
used by people who believe Gansberg article to be stuff of myth which seemed to fall in a gray area.
A.M. Rosenthal claimed in his book, Thirty Eight Witnesses, that the police commissioner Michael
Murphy was the first to mention the number. People close to Gansberg who has passed away say that
Gansberg counted the witnesses himself. Looking through police reports Pelonero found that thirty
night was a understatement because sixty nine people admitted hearing screams. Many of them did not
see anything but about thirty did admit to seeing Kitty s attack. A closer look at the police log
Pelonero found the claims that anyone called the police

but are quickly soothed upon reunion. The anxious ambivalent and disorganized infants are
characterized with thrilling anxiety during separation and strive for closeness to their attachment
figure upon reunion. The anxious avoidant children appear content during the absence of their
attachment figure and not predominantly engrossed in seeking juxtaposition and soothing upon
reunion. These children are anxious during separation and they learned to suppress their emotions
(Berzoff, 2011). Disorganized children are particularly ambivalent upon reunion with their attachment
figure, both synchronously approaching and avoiding contact. Most of the infants display a collapse of

Bowlby s theory is fundamentally, based on scientific findings on early attachment development from
childhood to adulthood (Fischer, 2006). He observed that infants separated from their parents or
caregivers are emotionally distressed. Bowlby believed that individual s behavior could be naturally
well understood through the analysis of characteristic exploration that is connected with
psychodynamic affiliation. Bowlby s exodus from the traditional psychoanalytic theory at that time,
earned him many years of hatred by his pears. It was after his death in 1990 that the British analytic
community issued a formal apology to his family for their negative action against him (Fischer, 2006).
Culture/Diversity: According to Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, approximately
20% of African Americans are more likely to experience serious mental health problems than the
general population (Census, 2016). This is due to exposure to violent environment and homelessness
which can increase anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, depression etc., (Ward, 2013). African
Americans are more likely to be victims of violent crime which are influenced by the risk for
developing a mental health issue. Such as; Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), suicide, attention
deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The belief and stigma of mental health as a bad reflection on
the African American family could be seen as a

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Mother Tongue By Amy Tan
In Mother Tongue, we learn about the Amy Tan s love for language; specifically, the English language.
Tan then introduces her conflict with her mother tongue and proper English and how this relates to her
mother. Tan shows and explains how she rejects the idea that her mother s English is in need of fixing
while explaining how she viewed English tests as subjective. She explains how she believes
achievement tests can t capture things like intent and passion which is what she strives to capture in
her writing. Tan explains that she now uses all the Englishes she s learned and that she strives to
preserve the essence of her mother tongue. The last line confirms that she has reached her writing
goals of including all of the different forms of English into her novel as her mother says that the book
that Tan had written was, So easy to read. Tan s main conflict is the variation of Englishes she had to
use and the struggles it brought her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, she says I am not a scholar of English or literature.... I am a writer to earn the readers
respect. Tan also uses logos, or logic and reasoning. A good example of this is when Tan explains how
her mother would have her call and complain to people or ask for information over the phone. Tan
mostly uses pathos in her essay to appeal to readers emotions. An example of her pathos style is when
she informs the reader about her mother s tumor: ...the hospital did not apologize when they said they
had lost the CT scan......they did not seem to have any sympathy when she told them she was anxious
to know the exact diagnosis... , Amy Tan significantly balances each part of the rhetorical triangle as
each element of the rhetorical triangle ultimately led to creating a very effective and thought

Analysis Of The Count Of Monte Cristo Quotes
The Count of Monte Cristo Quotes Dumas, Alexandre. The Count of Monte Cristo. Trans. Lowell
Bair. New York: Bantam Edition, 1956. Print. 1. Villefort started in spite of himself. The coincidence
shook his usual impassivity and struck a chord of sympathy in the depths of his soul. He, too, was
about to be married; and he had now been called upon to destroy the joy of a man who, like himself,
was on the point of attaining his supreme happiness (Dumas 25). In this quote, Villefort finds out that
Dante s is about to get married and starts to actually feel sorry for the man because he himself was
also about to get married. I chose this quote because I think it symbolizes that even though Villefort is
mainly an antagonist he still has good aspects to him as well. 2 I regret now, said he, having helped
you In your late inquiries, or having given you the information I did. Why so? inquired Dantès.
Because it has instilled a new passion in your heart that of vengeance (Dumas 58). In this quote, the
author is showing how Dante s finally learns about how he has gotten mistreated throughout the whole
prison affair. I chose this quote because it shows the how gullible and trusting Dante s was as a person
and how it quickly changed into a fury that would not be extinguished. 3. A sad smile passed over his
lips as he wondered what had become of Mercedes during all that time when she must have believed
him to be dead (Dumas 85) In this quote, Dantes escapes sudden death in

Harold Pinter The Caretaker Analysis
The Caretaker by Harold Pinter is a play in three acts which describes relationships of three different
characters and their desire for dominance over each other. There are three main characters of this play:
Aston (kind man who had mental health problems and was fond of handicraft), Davies (homeless
elderly man who was kindly invited by Aston to live for some time in his room), and Mick (pragmatic
younger brother of Aston who owned the house where described events occurred). These three persons
have different character traits and different social status. Therefore, their interaction creates a conflict,
which help readers better understand the real motives of characters and feel the absurdity of situation.
Although the play raises many important questions, the main topic of Pinter s The Caretaker are
homelessness and ungratefulness. Therefore, it can be useful to analyze The Caretaker through the
prism of the Theatre of the Absurd and identify the role of such issues as homelessness and
ungratefulness in this play to better understand its moral lesson.
II. THE THEATRE OF ABSURD It is important to pay attention to the style of the play for enhancing
its discussion. Harold Pinter is commonly associated with the movement called the Theatre of the
Absurd. Dramatic works of this movement have their own philosophy and differ a lot form traditional
plays. Dialogues of characters very often lack logic and require from the audience to make their own
conclusions and conjectures. At

  • 2. What Does It Stand For Dna Research Paper What does DNA stand for? Deoxyribonucleic acid What is DNA? DNA also known as deoxyribonucleic acid is a complex molecule that carries the genetic information in the cell, essential to build and maintain an organism. The shape of the molecule is described as a double helix . The building blocks of DNA are nucleotides. A nucleotide consists of one phosphate molecule, a five sided sugar molecule (deoxyribose sugar), and one nitrogen base. WHERE IS IT FOUND? DNA is located throughout the body, inside organisms called eukaryotes. Which is found inside a special area of the cell called the nucleus. Organisms have DNA molecules, tightly wound and packaged as a chromosome. DNA is not only located in the nucleus, humans also have a small amount of DNA in cell structure in mitochondria. For each DNA molecule that forms into a chromosome can be seen as a set of shorter DNA sequences. These are the units of DNA function called genes. WHAT IS ITS STRUCTURE AND HOW IS IT ARRANGED? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Strands of the DNA are composed of a sugar and phosphate, portions of the nucleotides while the middle parts of the DNA are made up of nitrogenous bases. The hydrogen bonds between phosphates cause the DNA strand to twist. The nitrogenous bases point inward on the ladder and form pairs with bases on the other side, like rungs. The nitrogenous bases on the two strands of DNA pair up, purine with pyrimidine (adenine with thymine and guanine with cytosine) and are held together by hydrogen bonds. DNA has a spiral staircase like structure. The steps are formed by the nitrogen bases of the nucleotides where adenine pairs with thymine and cytosine with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Three authors illustrate these connections very well: Olaudah Equiano, Roger Williams, and Anne Bradstreet. The authors give specific examples of what people did on a normal basis as well as what their norms were; these examples were well enough explained to be compared to today. Equiano s examples will hit home for most as he explains his norms versus what today s people see as completely okay. Equiano gives example of cultural issues that are currently very touchy subjects such as circumcision, Williams explains the way that the population decided their own name and different things that they discovered such as constellations, and Bradstreet shows different ways ... In the early North American days it was said to be the best thing to do for a male infant, now parents are thinking it through a little more and actually looking at the pros and cons to circumcising their new baby. There are pros and cons to all things, but washing your hands is all pros. Hand washing is something everyone struggles with, but is necessary to maintain good health. Hand washing is the number one key to keeping infection and sickness down to a low percentage. The final and most controversial pricing structure is Uber s use of dynamic pricing for high volume days such as New Year s or Halloween and also during inclement weather conditions. Technology Technology can be divided into two components, the app technology for consumers and the demand calculation technology at the firm. The app technology is available for iPhone/Android devices and uses GPS from the requested pickup destination to display a map of all available Uber cars in the area. Uber calculates the nearest driver and plots your pickup time accordingly (see right). Each driver is also given an iPhone with an app to manage incoming customer requests. This can lead to bone fragility and an increased risk of fractures (1). This disease is a growing concern in today s society, particularly in women over 50 years of age (2). It is predicted that the number of cases of osteoporosis will continue to increase due to an aging population (3). Nutritional intake is a major contributor to the disease. In particular, a lack of dietary calcium, a nutrient critical to bone development, is a major factor in the development of osteoporosis (4). For this research design, the focus will be on female adolescent vegans. The main focal point will be on the consumption of dairy products and the resulting adequacy of calcium in the diet. The possible decrease of calcium associated with veganism may impact calcium intake and thus have an impact on an individual s future bone health. Method: The proposed study will use dietary and anthropometric assessment methods to evaluate the prevalence of calcium in an adolescent female vegan s diet. The purpose will be to determine if the amount of calcium consumed has an impact on bone mineral density (BMD). Participants: This study will recruit 100 females, ages 14 to 18, with approximately 20 individuals of each age. The age range of the sample population was determined based on the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) cutoff ages. The minimum age requirement (14 years old) relates to the average age females reach menarche. Menarche plays a role in bone growth and development. After menarche occurs, bone growth often increases (7). All participants must have practiced veganism for at least one year prior in order to take part in the study. This will ensure that participants are committed to following a vegan diet. • 15. First Steps in Beginning Language Intervention Summary The topic for today s reading was 1st Steps in Beginning Language Intervention. The first assigned reading, Errorless Teaching and the Use of Transfer Procedures, established that the difference between a great Applied Behavior Analysis program and a mediocre program is often in the details of correct prompting procedures. It s important when teaching a child with autism or any developmental delay that you not only know the science of ABA and the conceptual analysis of VB, but also that you can deliver accurate and appropriate therapy. Prompts are the little nudges or hints that will increase the likelihood of a correct response from your child. The bases of prompting include the several difference types of prompts, and a hierarchy to identify how invasive the prompt is. For a child to be successful is better to use the least intrusive prompt, such as physical prompt (partial physical prompt), gestural prompts (model or imitative prompt/partial imitative prompt), and other prompts (visual and textual prompts). Also this reading pointed out how too many antecedents and a non invasive prompt cause the child to not complete the task that he is being asked to do and in to reinforced the child s non compliance, such as the example of Lucas and his dad with the control remote after Lucas has shortly begun his ABA therapy. When giving an instruction it s best to give only one antecedent, expect only one behavior, and delivery only one consequence. Giving too much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dixon writes, Individualized struggles between men and women around the oppressive attitudes and objective sexual and social privileges is the consequence of the psychological oppression that is taking place in the minds of women, and men, who are being hyper sexualized in the need for attention. Taking into consideration the amount of emphasis is placed on a woman s sex appeal Dixons ideas cannot be disregarded. • 18. Analysis Of The Plague Of Doves Pluto, North Dakota does not exist. It is not a current town in the United States, nor are there any records of any area in North Dakota referring to itself as Pluto. By inventing this setting for the 2008 novel The Plague of Doves, author Louise Erdrich gives herself incredible freedom to develop a limitless narrative. Readers familiar with the general reputation of North Dakota will recognize many of the expectations. Erdrich s town of Pluto is rural and conservative, with persistently palpable tension between the predominantly Caucasian population and the victimized minority of ethnically Native Americans. Much about the plot and perspective of this novel seems to rely on its structure around many narrators. The Plague of Doves is told from multiple perspectives and the timelines jump indiscriminately, sometimes with plots separated by decades seeming to exist in tandem. While these literary elements are remarkable, informative, and provide the novel with a significantly unique identity, the importance of setting cannot be overlooked. As focus oscillates between narrators and time periods, it is the fictional town of Pluto that remains the foundational factor. Without this shared setting, the novel could unravel into disparate themes. Yet readers subconsciously recognize the importance of place. As the crimes and social injustices repeatedly occur in a central location, the novel becomes less about the people and more about the legacy they inherit. The characters ... William Phelps, this book brings to light the story of the woman who ran a murder house over one hundred years ago. The case of Amy is a fascinating one because of her motive, money. She opened a nursing home for the elderly and then murdered her clients for financial gain. Amy Archer Gilligan put a lot of planning into her killings, this is her story. As any businessperson knows, if you can match service with customer need there s opportunity for profit. For Amy Archer Gilligan, that opportunity came with the elderly. Amy Archer Gilligan presented herself to the world as this very innocent Christian woman. She projected herself as a caretaker who wanted to just take care of the sick and make a living at it. M William Phelps wrote in this book how he believed that Amy s customers were sold the perfect pitch. He spoke very highly of her marketing skills and how she sold the idea to so many people. In 1907, Amy was ahead of her time launching one of New England s first nursing homes. She was a pioneer of elderly care at the Turner s century in New England. Amy kind of pioneered the whole idea of nursing elderly people which later turns into proper nursing homes. This was the kind of thing seniors signed up for. They wanted a peaceful caring home in which to spend their last few years. The marketing ploy was simple, they would pay a thousand dollars and in return, Amy gave them life care. Life care meant they stayed in the home she took care of them, fed them, clothed them, and gave them medicines. There was no time limit. As long as the customers lived, Amy promised to care for them. Even though it seemed too good to be true, people lined up. Clients and their families hoped for a long and restful life but Amy s business plan called for something else, turnover. Let s set the scene, picture a calm and peaceful New England night. Patients are getting themselves ready for bed and they ve just finished dinner. Scott Fitzgerald Without rules and regulations the wealthy can live very extravagant lushes lives but there are consequences for dishonesty. In F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby dishonesty supplies a method of creating escape from consequence for the wealthy. The wealthy feels as if they are better than the other classes and can lie. Without consequences, Fitzgerald shows this by using diction to show how dishonest behavior, manmade privileges, and social mannerisms cause the wealthy to live recklessly without consequences. Throughout this book gatsby s choice lead him to his ultimate downfall. Gatsby s life has been told many ways and he has not been honest to many people about it, leading to the end of the book where there are a series of events that inevitably kill Jay Gatsby. Was Daisy driving? Yes, he said after a moment, but of course I ll say I was ... (Fitzgerald 15). • 21. How Is Figurative Language Used In Emily Dickinson s Poetry Emily Dickinson was one of the most amazing poets that ever lived. Though her work did not start to get published until after her death, it is still looked at as a great life accomplishment and is to this day some of the greatest poems. Dickinson was a poet who used the words of her poems to describe a feeling not just saying he or she is lonely or happy. A reader is able to see this in all of her work but for me it stands out in two of her poems that seem to have the same meaning but the way the emotion is portrayed is different in both of them. Loneliness is portrayed in both There s a certain Slant of light and The Soul selects her own Society but the way a reader perceives the message of loneliness is different. The use of her word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dickinson usually uses four line stanzas which is true in both of the poems I have chosen. This allows for more enhancement on the words that she chooses. Along with the uses of four line stanzas, she seems to put more emphasis on certain words by capitalizing them. This could mean that these words are meant to have more meaning and read more strongly or it could just be the way she was writing. It seems to be words that would have more meaning towards them. For example in There s a certain Slant of light , some of the words that are capitalized are Heavenly Hurt , Meanings , Despair , Distance , and Death . All of these words would seem to be words that would use more meaning since the poem is about loneliness and alienation. Along with There s a certain Slant of light , The Soul selects her own Society has capitalization on words that would not normally be capitalized. Some of these words are Soul , Door , Present , Unmoved , and Stone . With these words being capitalized, it appears that Dickinson wanted more emphasis on them making them stand out to the reader. Her structure gets even more diverse than other poets because she uses the dashes in all of her poems. Although the translators were unsure if that s what they actually were based on her hand writing, it is still something that makes her stand out as a poet. The use of the dashes add a ... This artwork was made in the year 1872 and the medium used in the creation of this work was oil on canvas. In the book, Monet: The Ultimate Impressionist, it is stated that the work was more focused on capturing the experience of a moment than realistically rendering a scene (Patin 39). This illustrates the basis from which Impressionism defines itself. Instead of expressing a realistic portrait of the harbour, Claude Monet chose to demonstrate it in an expressive manner. Whilst doing this, he makes use of the contrasting effects of the rising sun and the bluish water, representing the sun as a prominent subject in the painting. Donald O Meara (1989) defines cross sex friendship as a personal relationship between an unrelated man and woman who share no romantic feelings towards each other. He broadens his definition by allowing that a lack of romance does not necessarily entail a lack of sexuality or passion. This understanding allows for the possibility of sexual attraction, but not romantic attraction. Other definitions prohibit all forms of sexuality, passion, and romance, while still others allow them. In cross sex friendships where sexual and/or romantic attraction exists, what role do they play in the relationship? Do they end friendships immediately upon dissolution of the attraction? Or do they enhance the quality and longevity, bringing the dyad closer together? This paper aims to answer those questions, assuming sexual and romantic attractions are both permitted in classifying cross sex friendships. The frequency of sexual attraction in heterosexual cross sex friendships differs between males and females, as does that of romantic attraction. Sexual boundaries are not clearly defined in these relationships, adding to the complications and ambiguity for both members of the dyad (Bleske Buss, 2000). Moreover, there are several different types of love, and many levels of attraction. In the story, Cathedral by Raymond Carver, the author takes us through a day in the life of a husband who is forced by his wife to meet and entertain her longtime friend Robert who happens to be blind. The husband is not exactly excited by this visit. The author illustrates the characters development beginning as apprehensive and jealous, transitioning to more of an uncomfortable feeling, and finally ending with acceptance as the husband is put into a situation where he gains a new understanding of the blind man. He ends the story with his eyes closed and a mind open to a new view of the world. As the story begins, the author seems to portray the main character as apprehensive and jealous. As he narrates the story, the husband opens with a blunt statement, his being blind bothered me. The husband seems more concerned with the fact that the man is blind and states later that his idea of blindness came from movies. The woman is staring at the direction where the bus is coming, with a smile on her face. As a photojournalistic image, this photo is aiming to portrait a kind and helpful African American woman, however, does this photo really positively portrait an African American woman? Pelonero researched for herself through police reports, trail transcripts and reading through statements made by witnesses. In doing so Pelonero found that instead of bringing a new light on the case it their statements produced a watered down version of the murder. Pelonero s article does a good job stiffing through Gansberg article presenting the errors within his article like the fact that he stated there were three attacks, but Winston Moseley confessed in court that he attacked her twice. Pelonero speaks about the origin of the number thirty eight which is a big point used by people who believe Gansberg article to be stuff of myth which seemed to fall in a gray area. A.M. Rosenthal claimed in his book, Thirty Eight Witnesses, that the police commissioner Michael Murphy was the first to mention the number. People close to Gansberg who has passed away say that Gansberg counted the witnesses himself. Looking through police reports Pelonero found that thirty night was a understatement because sixty nine people admitted hearing screams. Many of them did not see anything but about thirty did admit to seeing Kitty s attack. A closer look at the police log Pelonero found the claims that anyone called the police ... Bowlby s exodus from the traditional psychoanalytic theory at that time, earned him many years of hatred by his pears. Tan then introduces her conflict with her mother tongue and proper English and how this relates to her mother. Tan shows and explains how she rejects the idea that her mother s English is in need of fixing while explaining how she viewed English tests as subjective. She explains how she believes achievement tests can t capture things like intent and passion which is what she strives to capture in her writing. Tan explains that she now uses all the Englishes she s learned and that she strives to preserve the essence of her mother tongue. The last line confirms that she has reached her writing goals of including all of the different forms of English into her novel as her mother says that the book that Tan had written was, So easy to read. • 44. Analysis Of The Count Of Monte Cristo Quotes The Count of Monte Cristo Quotes Dumas, Alexandre. The Count of Monte Cristo. Trans. Lowell Bair. New York: Bantam Edition, 1956. Print. 1. Villefort started in spite of himself. The coincidence shook his usual impassivity and struck a chord of sympathy in the depths of his soul. He, too, was about to be married; and he had now been called upon to destroy the joy of a man who, like himself, was on the point of attaining his supreme happiness (Dumas 25). In this quote, Villefort finds out that Dante s is about to get married and starts to actually feel sorry for the man because he himself was also about to get married. I chose this quote because I think it symbolizes that even though Villefort is mainly an antagonist he still has good aspects to him as well. 2 I regret now, said he, having helped you In your late inquiries, or having given you the information I did. Why so? inquired Dantès. Because it has instilled a new passion in your heart that of vengeance (Dumas 58). In this quote, the author is showing how Dante s finally learns about how he has gotten mistreated throughout the whole prison affair. I chose this quote because it shows the how gullible and trusting Dante s was as a person and how it quickly changed into a fury that would not be extinguished. 3. Harold Pinter The Caretaker Analysis The Caretaker by Harold Pinter is a play in three acts which describes relationships of three different characters and their desire for dominance over each other. There are three main characters of this play: Aston (kind man who had mental health problems and was fond of handicraft), Davies (homeless elderly man who was kindly invited by Aston to live for some time in his room), and Mick (pragmatic younger brother of Aston who owned the house where described events occurred). These three persons have different character traits and different social status. Therefore, their interaction creates a conflict, which help readers better understand the real motives of characters and feel the absurdity of situation. Although the play raises many important questions, the main topic of Pinter s The Caretaker are homelessness and ungratefulness. Therefore, it can be useful to analyze The Caretaker through the prism of the Theatre of the Absurd and identify the role of such issues as homelessness and ungratefulness in this play to better understand its moral lesson. II. THE THEATRE OF ABSURD It is important to pay attention to the style of the play for enhancing its discussion. Harold Pinter is commonly associated with the movement called the Theatre of the Absurd. Dramatic works of this movement have their own philosophy and differ a lot form traditional plays. Dialogues of characters very often lack logic and require from the audience to make their own conclusions and conjectures. At ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
