gun could be a big need at any moment Hupp starts off by telling us how she wouldn t carry a gun but
then started using it illegally to use as protection after the situation she went through while she was
with her parents at a local cafeteria and an unknown person goes in to shoot that s when she regrets

The Need for a Revival of American Infrastructure
America made a multibillion dollar investment when the Federal Highway Act of 1956 was signed
into law by Dwight Eisenhower. This was a milestone for America, connecting the nation like it had
never been before. Since this time, however, the United States has done very little in terms of
infrastructure investment. Currently, the American Society of Civil Engineers ranks America s
infrastructure as a D + (2013). American no longer leads the world in the best roads, airports, rail, or
bridges. This is a serious problem that will lead to security, environmental, economic, and political
issues if not addressed fully and swiftly. America needs to act promptly to revive the nation s
infrastructure system before additional nations surpass the US while the cost becomes too big to bear.
The Interstate System that was created under the Federal Highway Act of 1956 cost 128.9 billion
dollars and currently spans 46,876 miles long (Federal Highway Administration). This system links
the North to the South and the East Coast to the West Coast. Today, America does not spend nearly the
amount of time nor attention to the betterment of the nation s infrastructure. For the last four year, the
American Society of Civil Engineers, or ASCE for short, has ranked America s system in the D range
(NPR 2013). President of the society, Gregory DiLoreto, stated that:
We waste hours sitting in traffic; power outages become more frequent; we lose billions of gallons of

Tim Beckman Violations In Sports
Tim Beckman, the head coach of The Fighting Illini collegiate football was fired for allegations of
mismanaging the health of student players on Friday, Aug. 28. Athletic director Mike Thomas made
the decision based on reviews. The University of Illinois had a press conference regarding the issue at
4 p.m. ET. The Chicago Tribune interviewed 50 players who were coached by Beckman and a law
firm interviewed 90 people while investigating allegations of misconduct. Beckman was accused of
pressuring players into playing despite physical injuries. Both of those findings are unsettling
violations of University policy and practice and do not reflect the culture that we wish to create in
athletic programs for our young people, stated Thomas. I

Shakespeare’s Brilliant Use of Symbolism
To be or not to be that is the question (Kittredge, 993). This is one of William Shakespeare s best
known and used quotes. Many who use it do not even know what piece it is taken from, or what
exactly it means. It just sounds like a cool, tragic, Shakespearean quote to use to sound more
intelligent. And that is the sad truth. Shakespeare s works are filled with quotes, soliloquies, and
experts, like this one, that are filled with innuendos, imagery, word choice, etc. One very important
literary technique used by Shakespeare, in all of his works, is his symbolism, which portrayed
Shakespeare s life, time period, and messages he wished to get across to his audience. He also used his
symbolism to satirize whomever he wished. Shakespeare s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

(Act III, Scene I, ll 56 69).
Hamlet s uncertainty of death is felt throughout this entire soliloquy. Later in it he says, But that the
dread of something after death, The undiscover d country from whose bourn No traveler returns,
puzzles the will, And makes us rather bear those ills we have Than fly to others that we know not of?
(Act II, Scene I, ll 78 82).
In this expert the traveler and the undiscovered country symbolizes someone traveling in death onto
the unknown after life. This entire soliloquy symbolizes Hamlet s uncertainties of death. One other
example of symbolism that is used in Hamlet is a serpent. The serpent, which Hamlet s father s ghost
refers his uncle to, represents the evil and deceit that the uncle used to get the crown. A serpent, many
times in literature, represents something that is secretive, evil, and tempting, just as Lucifer, in the
form of a serpent was in the garden of Eden. Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild
animals the Lord God had made (Genesis 3:1). The ghost of Hamlet s father says of his uncle, Tis
given out that, sleeping in my orchard, A serpent stung me. So the whole ear of Denmark Is by a
forged process of my death Rankly abus d. But know, thou noble youth, The serpent that did sting thy
father s life Now wears his crown. (Act I, Scene V, ll 35 39).

External Forces Used In Soda Schools
Soda companies began using plastic bottles in 1970. The Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) material
that is used in plastic soda bottles was introduced in 1973. Model rockets are pretty safe to fly and it is
not a very expensive experiment to do. It helps students learn the basics of forces and the responses of
external forces. Water rockets have been a source of education while also entertaining students. There
are four forces subjected while the rocket is in flight; weight, thrust, aerodynamic forces, and lift and
drag. Thrust is the force that moves the rocket through the air. It is generated by the propulsion system
of the rocket through Newton s third law of motion; For every action there is an equal and opposite re

Current Career Status Analysis
Current Career Status. Currently, I unemployed but accepted in a fast food restaurant. I have applied to
many different restaurants and only one has accepted my application. I have not worked a shift yet but
I will soon be able to work once a scheduled time for me to work is in place. I was able to get the job
because an odd friend from high school and she was able to get me an interview at Sonic Drive in here
in Pocatello. I feel like I can do well in this institution because I have experience from working at a
fast food joint back in my hometown, Burley.
The only places a teenager like me can apply to is retail and fast food due to our lack of experience
and ignorance. My work experience consists of many years of gardening and lawn care services. I
would do a lot of gardening and flower care working at a greenhouse. I realized that I was not fit for
that job because that job would require me to do a lot of labor and being uncomfortable in hot clothes.
Another experience is working at Jack in the Box. I have training of every station except shift leader
and manager. I enjoyed the work because I was surrounded by people with whom I would associate

Adipic Acid
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1. HISTORY AND GENERAL INFORMATION ON ADIPIC ACID
1. History on The Production Adipic acid is an important organic chemical raw material. In China, it is
used as raw material in the production of Nylon 6/6 salt, polyurethane, plasticizers, high grade
lubricants and food additives. With the rapid growth of development, the application of adipic acid
keeps expanding. The production of adipic acid is controlled in the hands of multinationals. An
American chemical company (DuPont) is the biggest supplier in the world. On 2004, total capacity of
adipic acid in the world was recorded to be as much as 2.74 million tons and Du Pont alone caters
about 1.1 million tons which is almost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Currently in Malaysia, it is not producing or manufacturing any adipic acid but they only become the
supplier for the local industries. For this matter, Malaysia should build at least one manufacturer plant
of adipic acid to decrease the import of the adipic acid from other countries. There are not many adipic
acid plants in the world and therefore local manufacturer should grab this opportunity and not just
depending on outside sources. This would make Malaysia one of the largest productions of adipic acid
in the world. 2. General Description Generally, adipic acid has a structure of Carbon 6 straight chain
with two carboxylic acid ( COOH) groups. Due to its long aliphatic chain, it is slightly soluble in
water, alcohol and acetone. Adipic acid can also be called as 1,4 butanedicarboxylic acid, 1,6
hexanedioic acid, adipinic acid, acifloctin, acinetten, octafluorohexanedioic acid as well as
hexanedioic acid. It is expected to have a chemical formula of C6H10O4 and a structural formula of
HOOC(CH2)4COOH with a total molecular weight of 146.14 gmol 1. Figure 1.2 is the structures of
adipic acid: Figure 1.2: Molecular structure of adipic acid Commercial adipic acid is one of the purest

Bill Bryson s Travels
Bill Bryson, who grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, says that someone had to be from Des Moines. He
says people there either accept the fact that they ll marry a local girl and work at Firestone or they
spend years moaning about the place and grow up to marry a local girl and work at Firestone. Bryson,
a writer, decides to take a long circuitous journey through many of the states, recording his
observations along the way. He does so with wit and sometimes wisdom, implanting stories from his
own life along the way. Bryson s travels are divided into two sections East and West. He first travels

that, however, at the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit, much later during his journey. He has held to the
idea that the New England states would be graceful places, filled with pretty scenes and clapboard
churches. Again he s disappointed and hates those cities that have turned into tourist traps, selling
crappy sweatshirts and high priced tickets to disappointing attractions. As he travels westward, Bryson
writes that he hates the dull flatness of Kansas and can t imagine why the settlers ever stopped there.
His route is interrupted by snow and he turns south from his position in Colorado, eventually making

Case Study Of The Melamine Milk Crisis In China
Preventative crises occur again and again for various reasons. One of the main reasons is because
managers and top level business executives desire for profits without regard to sound moral principles
(Crandall, Parnell, Spillan, 2014). Unfortunately, this in itself can trigger an organizational crisis. This
problem appears in many forms, but the results are usually the same: an organizational crisis of some
type, stakeholders who have been hurt, and prevention that would have cost pennies in comparison to
the damage done (Crandall et al., 2014). A classic case of unethical decision making and lack of crisis
management concerns the Melamine Milk Crisis in China.
This case begins with a Chinese company, the Sanlu Group, who was purchasing milk for use in its
baby formula. Over time employees of the Sanlu Group discovered the milk their company was
purchasing, was tainted with melamine (Crandall et al., 2014). Melamine is a product generally used
to make plastics and laminates. Unfortunately, management personnel working for the Sanlu Group
was unaware of the tainted substance being illegally added to the milk. However, the melamine
product is a life threatening product that can cause kidney stones and renal failure once it is consumed.
Although the melamine boosted the protein rating of the milk, it was illegally added to the milk
(Crandall et al., 2014).
Still unaware of the danger the melamine laced milk was causing to infants, the Sanlu Group
continued to purchase the

No Kill Shelters
According to Sarah Knapton, humans love their dogs in the same way they do their children, and the
feeling is mutual. Everyone loves dogs, dogs can even be a person s best friend. With seeing dogs in a
crowed shelters and dogs getting euthanized is sad. The issue with regular animal shelters is they must
accept, or choose to accept, any and all companion animal s regardless health, temperament, or space
available, with no limitation. As no kill shelters accept animals on a voluntary or space available basis,
a no kill shelter does not euthanize animals who can be adopted or when the shelter is full, reserving
euthanasia for animals who are terminally ill or considered dangerous (Heinz). As proposed by Heinz
I have volunteered at both no kill shelters and traditional shelters. In my experience, the no kill
shelters tend to put down the traditional shelters for euthanizing animals. Likewise, the traditional
shelters have criticized no kill shelters. There are a lot of fights that break out between kill shelters and

Stress And Academic Achievement Between Blue Ribbon...
Stress and Perfectionism in Academic Achievement Between Blue Ribbon Schools vs. Non blue
Ribbon Schools Erin Altenberger Northern Kentucky University Abstract Stress and Perfectionism in
Academic Achievement Between Blue Ribbon Schools vs. Non blue Ribbon Schools Damian,
Stoeber, Negru, and Baban (2014), describes perfectionism as endeavoring for flawlessness and
setting extremely high standards for oneself. There is not just one type of perfectionism; there are in
fact three different categories of perfectionism. The three categories included self oriented, other
oriented, and socially prescribed perfectionism. Self oriented perfectionism refers to an individual that
sets and seeks high standards of performance for themselves (Chang, 2006). Chang (2006) describes
other oriented perfectionism as an individual that assumes that others should be perfect in their
actions. Socially prescribed perfectionism refers to an individual that believes that those around them
anticipate perfectionism from him or her (Chang, 2006). With what we know about perfectionism and
the potential distress it may cause, one can consider that stress could be a component with
perfectionism. Pope (2005) portrays stress as the perceived shortcomings between demands and the
accessibility of resources to meet those demands. Stress is a feeling that affects people of all ages.
Stress impacts people in a large array of ways, which include emotionally, physically, and mentally

Regulator of inner ear progenitor fate and outer hair cell...
Question 1
Hollyfield: Regulator of inner ear progenitor fate and outer hair cell function.
Introduction
Located within the mammalian cochlea and critical to hearing function, the organ of Corti is a sensory
epithelium, comprised of auditory receptors, called hair cells, and their supporting cells. In avians, hair
cells and supporting cells share common progenitors in the auditory epithelia (Fekete et al., 1998;
Kirjavainen et al., 2008). During embryonic development it is crucial to have the right number of hair
cells and supporting cells from progenitor cells for proper organ function. Loss or even gain of
supernumerary hair cells and/or supporting cells can lead to deafness (Chen et al., 2008; Chen and
Segil, 1999; Mellado Lagarde et ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only can the loss of inner hair cells lead to deafness, but so can the loss of outer hair cells. In rats,
loss of 1/3 of OHCs will cause hearing impairment, and 2/3 loss will lead to deafness (Chen et al.,
2008) .
Supporting cells: Within the organ of Corti, there are also five different types of supporting cells with
distinct morphologies: Hensen s cells are cuboidal or slightly oblong, inner phalangeal cells and
border cells are columnar, and Deiters and pillar cells are elongated and have strong cytoskeletons for
large structural demands (Wan et al., 2013). Like hair cells, supporting cells are also precisely
arranged in the organ of Corti, by rows from the outer edge to the inner edge of the organ in the order
of: Hensen s cells, Deiters cells, pillar cells, inner phalangeal cells, and border cells (Wan et al., 2013).
One should note that supporting cells do not just take up space in the auditory epithelium. Loss of
Deiters and pillar cells enviably leads to a loss of OHCs, causing deafness due lack of amplification
(Mellado Lagarde et al., 2013). In addition, supporting cells also provide trophic factors, which are
vital to the maintenance of spiral ganglion neurons (Monzack and Cunningham, 2013)

Essay On The Governess In The Turn Of The Screw By Henry...
Henry James was a prominent figure in Victorian Era literature known for his attention to conscious
perception and ambiguous writing. Because of the mystery shrouding his works, people have become
adept at reading between the lines and filling in his plot holes with their own inferred ideas. His book
The Turn of the Screw is one of his most vague and intriguing pieces and has therefore been a subject
of much conflict among critics. Of all possible theories, most boil down to the reliability of the
governess; is she telling the truth, or has she gone insane? Given James background living with a
philosopher father, a psychologist brother and a sister with numerous mental health issues, critics
often choose the latter theory. The governess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The governess is struggling to ignore her desires and maintain society s standards of a perfect woman
as well as preserve her innocence and reliability as an authority figure. Since she was taught to look
down upon women who deviate from societal expectations, she imagines Jessel in black, pale, and
dreadful with a dishonorable connection to Quint (James 50, 52). The apparition of Miss Jessel forms
from all the unacceptable sexual motives she finds within herself; a way to reprimand her behavior
without villainizing herself . In addition, Jessel s affair with Quint reflects the governess s unconscious
desire for a forbidden relationship with the master of Bly (Rodriguez 2). The ghosts provide her with a
method to play out her fantasies while avoiding the consequences of an illegitimate child and harsh
judgment, issues Jessel and Quint had experienced in their lives. Furthermore, the governess is afraid
of scaring or tainting the innocence of the children with her abnormal behavior which is evident
through her fear of the ghosts corrupting them. By projecting her dangerous, evil qualities on ghosts,
she convinces herself that she will be inherently better at watching the children, gaining their trust and
even saving them (Otten 2). The governess s method of projecting her flaws onto unseen ghosts gives
her a sense of security and

Creativity And The Mad Genius
Creativity and the Mad Genius On July 2, 1961, Ernest Hemingway put a gun to his head. Seventy one
years earlier, on July 29, 1890, Vincent van Gogh shot himself in the abdomen while painting a wheat
field. Robin Williams hung himself on August 24, 2014, less than two centuries after Vincent van
Gogh. Along with Ludwig von Beethoven, who died of natural causes in 1827, four of the greatest
creative minds each suffered from bipolar disorder, depression, or epilepsy, usually suffering from
other physical ailments as well. Ernest Hemingway was the only one to seem to have a genetic
disposition towards mental illness. None of these men led similar lives. Van Gogh only saw one of his
paintings sold, while Beethoven was an acclaimed composer by the age of twenty nine. Hemingway
was friends with some of the greatest literary minds of the day, and Robin Williams was one of the
most successful comedians to date. The common link, besides their mental illnesses, is the idea that
each of these men were searching for something more within their respective arts. Four fields of fine
arts that require the constant creation of something new claimed the lives of four men who gave it all
they had, some losing, and some finding themselves along the way. Over the past sixty years, facts
about depression and the reality of it have come to light; however, there are still negative stigmas
concerning the mental illness and how people ought to endure through the pain. Despite these negative

Top 10 Major Record Labels Nowadays Essay
Top 10 Major Record Labels Nowadays. Music and Business Music has several functions in the
society, such as the expression of emotions; creation of joy; communication; entertainment;
integration of a society; and the continuity of culture. These functions of music make music a human
need, which results in humans demanding for music. The human need or demand for music makes
music a valuable item (good). Therefore, humans (artists) create music as a good that can be sold for
revenues and profits. This is how music relates to business. Music is a good that many people (artists)
and business (record labels) are involved in its production, distribution, and sale for profits. In fact,
musicians have to acquire business skills that will help them manage their public image, organize for
tours and shows, design their merchandise, and build a loyal fan base. This is how music and business
are related. Main Problems Faced by Musicians Music is an industry that has a number of aspiring
artists wishing to be mainstream musicians. The road from aspirations to the establishment as a
mainstream artist is often marred with a lot of problems. These problems are failure to attract record
labels with demos; failure to have one s songs reviewed in local and national newspapers and
magazines; failure to attract people to one s show; meeting con promoters, who are not serious about
developing one and one s work, and running out of money in the course one s struggles. Successful

Figurative Language And Appreciation Of The Jade Flower...
Ashley Wisniewski Mrs. Synder English III 17 November 2017 Flower Jade Palace Famous Chinese
Poet, Tu Fu advocates appreciating the loveliness one could be surrounded by while it exists because
he believes beauty may not earn its deserved value. The poet was born into a life of wealth and
familial connections until his life was changed by a rebellion in 755. When the T ang dynasty s days
of glory came to an end, the artist spent his days on the road. Towards the end of his life, Tu Fu was in
poor health and suffering from many hardships. Tu Fu s poems reflected his life; he did not appreciate
the luscious life he had until it was gone, and Tu Fu s work was not appreciated until he passed away
(Elements of Literature 873). Tu Fu s Jade Flower Palace utilizes figurative language and sound
devices to portray his negative feelings of uncertainty about the future. In one of Tu Fu s younger
works, Jade Flower Palace, the poem goes into the deeper meaning of appreciating beauty and how
important it is to cherish loveliness during its lifespan. Tu Fu is standing in the ruins of a palace,
observing what is left of the destroyed and no longer stunning building. The artist believes the palace
was not appreciated for its charm while it was standing in one piece. Tu Fu s wish is that the lovely
surroundings could be truly valued because one can not determine what can happen to elegance in the
future. The poet s work has a deeper meaning than what it originally displays,

How Does Jake Dale s Change In Avatar
In James Cameron s film Avatar, the protagonist, Jake Sully, undergoes a change throughout the
narrative, this being from an apathetic soldier to person who thinks about and cares for the world
around him. Jake is important to us because he allows us to understand the dangers of our actions.
This idea is represented to us through characterisation and dialogue. At the start of the film Jake Sully
arrived on Pandora searching for a purpose in his life. He states early in the movie saying all I ever

Keegan Paper
War through the Ages: Waterloo Somme One hundred years separated the Battle at Waterloo and the
Battle at the Somme, and despite that time gap certain social and military aspects have been able
transcend time. John Keegan s The Face of Battle, detailed the experiences of both battles from a
British perspective. Within that one hundred year span many facets of war changed, the tactics, the
machinery, the tools, the soldiers and the very cause of the battle itself. Despite the stark contrasts of
each, it was the similarities in experience and tactics that were truly striking. When analyzing both
battles careful, it became apparent the parallels of war despite time, location and societal factors.
Like many events in history, a battle is very telling about the society it took place in. This idea rang
true during the Battle of the Somme, happening in the midst of World War I, July 1916. The British,
aligned with the other Allies were set to take on the Germans. According to Keegan, the French and

The Reliability of Criminal Profiling Since the late 1800s, the reliability of criminal profiling has been
a very controversial topic in regards to whether it is is an art or a science. Many factors go into play
when it comes down to determining the correct perpetrator of a crime such as observation and analysis
of crime scenes, victims and most importantly looking into the criminal s mind. Psychology plays a
great part in the apprehension of criminals, profilers aim at predicting a suspect s possible residence,
family life and most importantly the characteristics of the person such as height, weight and any other
clues that would prove helpful. Despite few similarities, criminal ... Show more content on

The Great Wave
Even though like many art form date back, painting being the oldest, they can for the most part all
interrelate with each other such as: music and dance, poetry and sculpture, music and drama and can
go together many different way depending on the person perspective, but the one that stands out the
most is poetry and painting. A prime example would be a the painting The Starry night and its
conjoining poem, but not allowed to use that one so the next best one is The Great Wave by Hokusai.
Most people when reading something they image it in the mind to help them to get a better
understanding of the poem, and what is going on allowing them to enjoy it more or to dislike the scene
that could be being portrayed. For example, in a quote from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Though this poem is seem more descriptive telling a person what the painting is a about like in the
quote, Summer ! the painting is organized about a young reaper enjoying his noonday rest completely
relaxed from his morning labors sprawled in fact sleeping unbuttoned on his back. The paint is just
like that there is a white that looks like they have been working on it all morning and now it is time to
sit down relaxed a little, eat, and drink some food knowing that they re going to have to get back to

the poem, A spot of wine they gather gossiping under a tree whose shade carelessly he does not share

painting saying the live a simple life of hard labor by saying just the last to word, workaday world,
and that the little time they do have not working they take advantage of that time living it to the

In conclusion, the interrelationship of poetry and painting is very prominent in art allowing the
observer to build a better image, and understand of both art form being it s a poem depicting a

God Blessed America Rhetorical Devices

History 1302
God Blessed America?
On October 29, 1929, also known as Black Tuesday , was a day in history no one will ever forget. It
was the day the stock market crashed.
Folk singer Woody Guthrie experienced the great depression first hand. His family went from middle
class to dire poverty in the 1920 s and 1930 s. He wrote this song after traveling the world and
witnessing the awful effects of the Great Depression. Originally called God Bless America this song
was a response to Irving Berlin s song also called God Bless America , he believed that this song was
unrealistic and smug. The tone of this song one could say is very sarcastic, because if god really did
bless America things like the great depression would not be happening. For example, at the end of his
song when he, saw my people, As they stood hungry, I stood there wondering if [God blessed America
for me.] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was not bad enough, most people were evicted from their homes. They were forced to live in

Gender Roles In Kate Chopin s A Pair Of Silk Stockings
In the story, A Pair of Silk Stockings by Kate Chopin, the stereotypical role of females is shown. Mrs.
Sommers is mother as told in the beginning of the story. Typically, we think of women as born to be
mothers and have nurturing qualities. When she is given a great deal of money, she uses it for her kids
and is constantly thinking about them rather than herself. In the third paragraph, Mrs. Sommers is
carefully dividing the money amongst her children and puts their needs first. Mothers are known for
doing this for their children and she is no exception. When Mrs. Sommers is shopping for her
stockings, a small treat for herself, we see even deeper into her selfless mind. She could not realize
that they belonged to her and were a part of herself. This quote shows that even after she ... Show

Outside of taking care of her children, Mrs. Sommers shows her kind heart and appreciation for the
man s service in the restaurant by tipping him generously or what seemed to be, by the way her bowed
as she left the table.
Society sometimes sees women as obsessed with appearance and only what is on the outside. This
story may lead you to believe that that is true, but can also change your mind about that thought. Her
stockings and boots and well fitting gloves had worked marvels in her bearing had given her a feeling
of assurance, a sense of belonging to the well dress multitude. In this part of the story we see how
Mrs. Sommers abundance of funds gave her a sense of confidence because she was able to purchase
nicer belongings for herself. Although in some situations this can be seen in a negative way, this is
something we should recognize as positive. When Money can t buy happiness is said, I definitely
agree with that, but there is no denying that personal belongings increase confidence and happiness to
an extent. I believe Mrs. Sommers would put this stereotypical role/mindset to rest because we can all
relate to her to our own mothers, or at least I can. In

Introduction
In this report I will examine the case Alibaba: Competing in China and Beyond. Alibaba under the
leadership of Jack Ma, its founder has transformed into one of the most successful e commerce
companies in China. In the 2000s Alibaba had emerged as the largest e commerce company in China.
The company tailored its strategies to meet the needs of the customers and made a mark because of its
understanding of the Chinese language and culture. However, some ... Show more content on

Also again Ma decided to build a loyal customer base before really attempting to make a profit; he did
this by offering free listings as opposed to eBay, which charged for listings (Deresky, 2010).
A major factors in Taoboa s success was Alibaba Groups better management of the trust factor
involved in e commerce trading and better understanding of the local Chinese market. eBbay
positioned its standard business model that was used in the United States and other countries. Taoboa,
instead, established its own payment escrow service. With AliPay buyers paid into an escrow account
that did not pay the seller until the buyer noted he had received the product; therefore, making the
transaction thrust worthy since the money was in escrow until the transaction was completed
(Deresky, 2010).
Furthermore, Taoboa offered e mail and chat services between users unlike eBay, which concealed
identities and only had an offline messaging system. Taoboa also advertised aggressively through
websites and billboards in major population areas something eBay did not do. The final steps of defeat
for eBay was when Taobao offered three years of free listings and when Taoboa launched its B2C
services in 2006. Moreover Taoboa had a large list of

The War Of 1812 Was A Two Year Long War
The war of 1812 was a two year long war fought between the United States and Great Britain. The war
was triggered between the two nations over the issue of impressment of American soldiers, and
although Britain promised to stop, they continued to do so anyway, hence taunting the United States
into entering the war. Now although the Americans lost the war, they did win something as a result of
the two year battle and that was nationalism which later manifested itself in the country s judicial
decisions, culture, politics, and foreign policy.
After the war of 1812, Americans sought ways to better their country politically. Before the war,
American life was rural and the development of the country side was slow. However, after the war and

With more wealth, more ideas were beginning to surface on how to better the American lifestyle
amongst the states; one of those ideas was The American System brought up by Henry Clay. The goals
of this system was to increase the country s wealth with an effective banking system, creating a set of
roads and canals throughout the country to unite the states and spread information further, and do all
that in correlation to another protective tariff placed on oversea trading. So as you can see because
nationalism manifested itself in American politics to unite the country even more, different methods
were proposed and carried out to better American lifestyle. Even when congress deemed some
methods unconstitutional, the states sought individual ways in which they could improve the U.S like
New York s construction of the Erie Canal. Nevertheless, the country began to undergo positive
changes as a result of the political nationalism rising in the country. Culture is a part of everyday life
and in the years to come after the war of 1812, nationalism would eventually manifest itself in
American culture as well. American culture was usually demonstrated or portrayed through paintings,
books, songs, and more. Now in order to grasp the concept of cultural nationalism, it s important to
realize that Britain and the United States have fought once before where the U.S. Came out the victor.
In the war of 1812, they fought against Britain and although

Perception And Actions Regarding American Indians
During the 1600s there was many changes in regards to the perception and actions concerning
American Indians. In the aftermath of both the Pequot and King Philip s War, there were casualties
from the Indians, and the negative connotations concerning natives grew until the extreme paranoia
over the violence of Indians became common thought. Through these wars we also begin to see the
idea of Manifest Destiny and the frontier becoming important to the Americas, while after the wars the
respect previously given to alliances concerning Indians decreased. This period is known as a time
when relations changed with the collision of American and Indian cultures in a new type of

When looking at captivity narratives there is many different characteristics that can show if the
document is reliable outside of any bias the author brought or that was inherent in the culture of that
period. Defining a captivity narrative is a difficult job for many reasons. The chief reason is that since
there are so many written concerning Indian captivity, it becomes necessary to have a category list or a
type of checklist that could be used to look at the validity of a narrative as well as showcasing if it
would be useful in any form. Looking through the narratives, defining good examples of narratives is
necessary to show the reality of the situation for that period in terms of the idea of Indians and what
helped to further found the inherent fear of whites over Indian capturing of white settlers as well as
Indian violence. The term captivity narrative has become a blanket term for any type of colonial settler
that during the 17th to 19th century, whether fact or fiction, that involves contact with Indian tribes in
uncomfortable circumstances. One of the major problems with these narratives surrounds the idea of
how to exactly define the term captivity narrative , since the large amount of tales written concerning
this theme are indistinguishable in showing if they were works of fiction or if they were

Holden Caulfield Psychoanalysis
The human mind is a complicated paradox, which has been trying to be deciphered by scientists,
psychiatrists, philosophers and many other professionals since the dawn of civilization. The
psychoanalytic theory was laid out by Sigmund Freud, which mainly focuses on various psychological
types and principles present within different works of literature. (Sousa) The novel, The Catcher in the
Rye by J.D. Salinger can be analyzed from a psychoanalytic critical perspective as various
subconscious human actions are portrayed through the protagonist of the story. The book reveals how

Throughout the entire novel, Holden searches for the simplicity of childhood in the adult world.
Holden wants to hold on to this innocence and never wants to grow up. He wants to stop the time, so
that children do not have to grow up. In his world full of phonies , he considers Phoebe as a place of
mental shelter, who symbolizes the purity of childhood. Phoebe helps him realize the truth of life,
which is that everyone has to go through the transition period and experience the reality of life.
Ultimately, Holden understands that he cannot protect all the children, which is demonstrated in his
thoughts, The thing with kids is, if they want to grab for the gold ring [which symbolizes adulthood],
you have to let them do it, and not say anything. If they fall off, they fall off, but it it s bad if you say
anything to them. (Salinger, 211) Therefore, Holden uses regression as another defense mechanism
because he denies leaving behind his old memories and holds on to his values of the purity of

Understanding Behavior And Family Dynamics
Week 2 Assignment: Communication
Tia Durkin
ECE355: Understanding Behavior Family Dynamics
Professor Jeremiah
15 January, 2016
Communication is the cornerstone of any relationship, but between parent and child it is both unique
and special. It is forged and developed through love and a special bond that can only be understood by
them. It begins before a child is even born, and continues through their life. Communication is how
we make our thoughts, feelings, needs, and thoughts known. As babies, children convey this through
cries and sounds; and is often best known by their parents who seem to know which cry and sound
mean different things. It is imperative that this strong level of communication is fostered in a positive
way, throughout their childhood. Having the ability to communicate effectively with our children is
not only beneficial for them, but the entire family dynamic. A good majority of parents want what is
best for their children, when communication is positive and reciprocal then it is reasonable to say that
the relationship matches. This is why when parents are uninvolved or neglectful, we behavioral issues
and a strong lack of respect from the child. In authoritative home, parents are still in charge, but they
have a sense of mutual respect between them and their children. The proof is in the outcomes in these
homes. Children have a tendency to be happier, respectful of others, better in school, and have a
greater ability to form meaningful

The Educational Work Of Maria Montessori
Maria Montessori was born on the 31st August 1870 in the town of Chiaravalle, Italy. Maria got her
quest for knowledge from her parents who were both well educated. She started her education at a
local state school and proceeded onto a technical institute where she intended to pursue a career in
engineering. This was unusual at the time as there were barriers that constrained women s careers,
leaving them with fewer options to pursue technical careers than their male contemporaries.
Even after graduating from technical Maria yearned for me, this yearning led her to enroll in medical
school against her father s wishes and faced with the challenges and prejudice she would face in this
field. She triumphed through it all and in 1896 became the first woman to qualify as a doctor in Italy.
A little into her career, Maria began working with mentally retarded children it was here that her
observations would become fundamental to her future educational work.
Montessori began to develop her philosophy and methods in 1897. She caught everyone s attention
when most of her uneducable students passed the state test in reading and math, some scoring above
average. Curious how such principles would work with the mainstream population of children,
Montessori then opened her first school; Casa dei Bambini (Children s House) in 1907.
Montessori education spread to the United States in 1911 and became popular and widely accepted.
The educational philosophy however began to conflict with

The Importance Of Christopher Columbus
Have you ever wondered how the land you live on was discovered? Explorers have wandered the face
of the Earth since the beginning of time, claiming their territories, deepening their roots, expanding
their borders, and securing their land. Humans have explored the most distant parts of the world and
are still discovering new territories as we explore our universe and space. The desire to discover is
rooted in all of us whether it is for fame, fortunes, or for satisfying curiosity. As a result, great
explorers have discovered and destroyed cultures, civilizations, and they have introduced
opportunities and new ideas. Many explorers share certain traits and characteristics that make them

Columbus left his father s business to join a sailing expedition which ended in a shipwreck near
Portugal. He decided to stay in Portugal with his brother and started a family. After his wife died, he
was interested in helping his country find a faster way to Asia without paying the Muslim Empire
taxes. Since Columbus had read and heard that Asia could be reached by sailing west, he wanted to
attempt this expedition and fulfill his dream of going to China. After seven years of not being able to
find support for his exploration, he was finally lucky enough to get support from King Ferdinand and
Queen Isabella of Spain. Christopher persevered and was willing to risk his life in order to gain fame,
fortune, and fulfill his dream. Christopher was given 87 men and three ships, the Nina, the Pinta, and
the Santa Maria, which left in August 1492. Christopher headed west into the Atlantic Ocean, as he
had understood that the world was round (but much smaller with his wrong calculations) and that
China was on the same latitude as Portugal. On October 12th, Columbus crew finally spotted land,
which was an island in the Caribbean, and called it San Salvador . He visited many nearby islands,
including Cuba and Hispaniola (Haiti and Dominican Republic). Since Christopher thought that he
had landed in India, he called the natives Indians which is still incorrectly used today. Columbus

The Day Was The First Day At Takai Academy
Hisao rubbed at his face, mostly at his cheeks and chin, and it was entirely peach fuzz. He only grew a
short hair or two on his chin. That was all he could ever grow, and he ended up plucking the two
strands out either way. Looking aimlessly out the window, spurts of baby blue and bright green
splashed his vision. He breathed out a short, tired sigh while his hands fiddled with the material of his
pants. Academy. How fun, even farther away from my Jung ah. The day was the first day at Takai
Academy, Hisao s first day, and he thoroughly enjoyed it. He released out another annoyed puff, but

wonderful. Hisao, I had enough of your attitude. It s school, that s it. You have no reason to shun your
mother so pettily. I let you customize your uniform after getting the Academy s permission, and I

The Importance Of White People In The World
When reading chapter 1 the thing I found most interesting was the abundance of people who argue

world has brought forth advancements in geometry, architecture, art and science all of sudden...we re

The Pros And Cons Of Estes Roadway
The safety of the people shall be the highest law, (Cicero n.d. p1). Throughout history, the safety of
people has been arguably the most important objective of the government. Political leaders have made
a force including police, fire fighters, and etc. to keep the common population safe. Unfortunately the
system set up is not the most efficient at locating mistakes that could potentially bring harm to
citizens. Within the city of Longview, located in Texas, there is one of these mistakes posing a threat
to the population of the city. On the south side of the city there is a three way intersection between the
roads Estes Parkway (running north and south) and Highway 281 (running from the west to Estes
Parkway). This intersection designed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of these solutions provide a viable way of increasing the safety of drivers in the intersection and
also make the intersection easier to follow direction. The first solution is based upon the idea that the
light pole will be shifted from the right side of Estes Parkway running north to the left side between
the median. This solution would eliminate the two extra traffic lights above the parallel road, and
focus on the intersection. The main issue with this idea is the cost involved with moving the traffic
light. According to the WSDOT it costs the taxpayer $250,000 to $500,000 to purchase and install a
traffic signal (WSDOT, n.d.). This also does not incorporate the amount of money that it would take to
provide the construction to move the light from one side of the street to the other. Over all, this first
solution could take upwards to 600,000 dollars to complete. The second solution to the intersection is
based on the idea that the two traffic lights over the intersection could be taken down and in
replacement there would be a sign placed in the spot instead. This would provide an easy
understanding of the intersection and also the drivers would not be confused on which sign was meant
for them. This change would save the city around 16,000 dollars a year based off of calculations from
WSDOT in the amount of money it takes to maintain traffic lights a year. Again there would have to
be a little construction, however, the cost to make this solution a reality would be much more cost
efficient for the tax payers dollars. Finally, the third option is to completely redesign the intersection
as a roundabout. The average cost to put an intersection in is just underneath 450,000 dollars (FHWA,
2015). That number however does not even begin to cover the operating expenses of the intersection.
WSDOT amounts the cost of maintenance and electricity per year to be about 8,000

  • 3. The Need for a Revival of American Infrastructure America made a multibillion dollar investment when the Federal Highway Act of 1956 was signed into law by Dwight Eisenhower. This was a milestone for America, connecting the nation like it had never been before. Since this time, however, the United States has done very little in terms of infrastructure investment. Currently, the American Society of Civil Engineers ranks America s infrastructure as a D + (2013). American no longer leads the world in the best roads, airports, rail, or bridges. This is a serious problem that will lead to security, environmental, economic, and political issues if not addressed fully and swiftly. America needs to act promptly to revive the nation s infrastructure system before additional nations surpass the US while the cost becomes too big to bear. The Interstate System that was created under the Federal Highway Act of 1956 cost 128.9 billion dollars and currently spans 46,876 miles long (Federal Highway Administration). This system links the North to the South and the East Coast to the West Coast. Today, America does not spend nearly the amount of time nor attention to the betterment of the nation s infrastructure. For the last four year, the American Society of Civil Engineers, or ASCE for short, has ranked America s system in the D range (NPR 2013). President of the society, Gregory DiLoreto, stated that: We waste hours sitting in traffic; power outages become more frequent; we lose billions of gallons of water through leaky ... Tim Beckman Violations In Sports Tim Beckman, the head coach of The Fighting Illini collegiate football was fired for allegations of mismanaging the health of student players on Friday, Aug. 28. Athletic director Mike Thomas made the decision based on reviews. The University of Illinois had a press conference regarding the issue at 4 p.m. ET. The Chicago Tribune interviewed 50 players who were coached by Beckman and a law firm interviewed 90 people while investigating allegations of misconduct. Beckman was accused of pressuring players into playing despite physical injuries. Both of those findings are unsettling violations of University policy and practice and do not reflect the culture that we wish to create in athletic programs for our young people, stated Thomas. • 5. Shakespeare’s Brilliant Use of Symbolism To be or not to be that is the question (Kittredge, 993). This is one of William Shakespeare s best known and used quotes. Many who use it do not even know what piece it is taken from, or what exactly it means. It just sounds like a cool, tragic, Shakespearean quote to use to sound more intelligent. And that is the sad truth. Shakespeare s works are filled with quotes, soliloquies, and experts, like this one, that are filled with innuendos, imagery, word choice, etc. One very important literary technique used by Shakespeare, in all of his works, is his symbolism, which portrayed Shakespeare s life, time period, and messages he wished to get across to his audience. He also used his symbolism to satirize whomever he wished. Shakespeare s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Act III, Scene I, ll 56 69). Hamlet s uncertainty of death is felt throughout this entire soliloquy. Later in it he says, But that the dread of something after death, The undiscover d country from whose bourn No traveler returns, puzzles the will, And makes us rather bear those ills we have Than fly to others that we know not of? (Act II, Scene I, ll 78 82). In this expert the traveler and the undiscovered country symbolizes someone traveling in death onto the unknown after life. This entire soliloquy symbolizes Hamlet s uncertainties of death. One other example of symbolism that is used in Hamlet is a serpent. The serpent, which Hamlet s father s ghost refers his uncle to, represents the evil and deceit that the uncle used to get the crown. A serpent, many times in literature, represents something that is secretive, evil, and tempting, just as Lucifer, in the form of a serpent was in the garden of Eden. Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made (Genesis 3:1). The ghost of Hamlet s father says of his uncle, Tis given out that, sleeping in my orchard, A serpent stung me. So the whole ear of Denmark Is by a forged process of my death Rankly abus d. But know, thou noble youth, The serpent that did sting thy father s life Now wears his crown. (Act I, Scene V, ll 35 39). And just as the serpent tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden, Hamlet s uncle tempted his mother and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) material that is used in plastic soda bottles was introduced in 1973. Model rockets are pretty safe to fly and it is not a very expensive experiment to do. It helps students learn the basics of forces and the responses of external forces. Water rockets have been a source of education while also entertaining students. There are four forces subjected while the rocket is in flight; weight, thrust, aerodynamic forces, and lift and drag. Thrust is the force that moves the rocket through the air. I have applied to many different restaurants and only one has accepted my application. I have not worked a shift yet but I will soon be able to work once a scheduled time for me to work is in place. I was able to get the job because an odd friend from high school and she was able to get me an interview at Sonic Drive in here in Pocatello. I feel like I can do well in this institution because I have experience from working at a fast food joint back in my hometown, Burley. The only places a teenager like me can apply to is retail and fast food due to our lack of experience and ignorance. My work experience consists of many years of gardening and lawn care services. I would do a lot of gardening and flower care working at a greenhouse. I realized that I was not fit for that job because that job would require me to do a lot of labor and being uncomfortable in hot clothes. Another experience is working at Jack in the Box. I have training of every station except shift leader and manager. I enjoyed the work because I was surrounded by people with whom I would associate out of work as well. Results of Assessments. In China, it is used as raw material in the production of Nylon 6/6 salt, polyurethane, plasticizers, high grade lubricants and food additives. With the rapid growth of development, the application of adipic acid keeps expanding. The production of adipic acid is controlled in the hands of multinationals. An American chemical company (DuPont) is the biggest supplier in the world. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Currently in Malaysia, it is not producing or manufacturing any adipic acid but they only become the supplier for the local industries. For this matter, Malaysia should build at least one manufacturer plant of adipic acid to decrease the import of the adipic acid from other countries. There are not many adipic acid plants in the world and therefore local manufacturer should grab this opportunity and not just depending on outside sources. This would make Malaysia one of the largest productions of adipic acid in the world. 2. General Description Generally, adipic acid has a structure of Carbon 6 straight chain with two carboxylic acid ( COOH) groups. Due to its long aliphatic chain, it is slightly soluble in water, alcohol and acetone. Adipic acid can also be called as 1,4 butanedicarboxylic acid, 1,6 hexanedioic acid, adipinic acid, acifloctin, acinetten, octafluorohexanedioic acid as well as hexanedioic acid. It is expected to have a chemical formula of C6H10O4 and a structural formula of HOOC(CH2)4COOH with a total molecular weight of 146.14 gmol 1. • 10. Case Study Of The Melamine Milk Crisis In China Preventative crises occur again and again for various reasons. One of the main reasons is because managers and top level business executives desire for profits without regard to sound moral principles (Crandall, Parnell, Spillan, 2014). Unfortunately, this in itself can trigger an organizational crisis. This problem appears in many forms, but the results are usually the same: an organizational crisis of some type, stakeholders who have been hurt, and prevention that would have cost pennies in comparison to the damage done (Crandall et al., 2014). A classic case of unethical decision making and lack of crisis management concerns the Melamine Milk Crisis in China. This case begins with a Chinese company, the Sanlu Group, who was purchasing milk for use in its baby formula. Over time employees of the Sanlu Group discovered the milk their company was purchasing, was tainted with melamine (Crandall et al., 2014). Melamine is a product generally used to make plastics and laminates. Unfortunately, management personnel working for the Sanlu Group was unaware of the tainted substance being illegally added to the milk. However, the melamine product is a life threatening product that can cause kidney stones and renal failure once it is consumed. Although the melamine boosted the protein rating of the milk, it was illegally added to the milk (Crandall et al., 2014). Still unaware of the danger the melamine laced milk was causing to infants, the Sanlu Group continued to purchase the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The issue with regular animal shelters is they must accept, or choose to accept, any and all companion animal s regardless health, temperament, or space available, with no limitation. As no kill shelters accept animals on a voluntary or space available basis, a no kill shelter does not euthanize animals who can be adopted or when the shelter is full, reserving euthanasia for animals who are terminally ill or considered dangerous (Heinz). Stress and Perfectionism in Academic Achievement Between Blue Ribbon Schools vs. Non blue Ribbon Schools Erin Altenberger Northern Kentucky University Abstract Stress and Perfectionism in Academic Achievement Between Blue Ribbon Schools vs. Non blue Ribbon Schools Damian, Stoeber, Negru, and Baban (2014), describes perfectionism as endeavoring for flawlessness and setting extremely high standards for oneself. There is not just one type of perfectionism; there are in fact three different categories of perfectionism. The three categories included self oriented, other oriented, and socially prescribed perfectionism. Self oriented perfectionism refers to an individual that sets and seeks high standards of performance for themselves (Chang, 2006). Chang (2006) describes other oriented perfectionism as an individual that assumes that others should be perfect in their actions. Socially prescribed perfectionism refers to an individual that believes that those around them anticipate perfectionism from him or her (Chang, 2006). With what we know about perfectionism and the potential distress it may cause, one can consider that stress could be a component with perfectionism. Pope (2005) portrays stress as the perceived shortcomings between demands and the accessibility of resources to meet those demands. Stress is a feeling that affects people of all ages. • 14. Regulator of inner ear progenitor fate and outer hair cell... Question 1 Hollyfield: Regulator of inner ear progenitor fate and outer hair cell function. Introduction Located within the mammalian cochlea and critical to hearing function, the organ of Corti is a sensory epithelium, comprised of auditory receptors, called hair cells, and their supporting cells. In avians, hair cells and supporting cells share common progenitors in the auditory epithelia (Fekete et al., 1998; Kirjavainen et al., 2008). During embryonic development it is crucial to have the right number of hair cells and supporting cells from progenitor cells for proper organ function. Loss or even gain of supernumerary hair cells and/or supporting cells can lead to deafness (Chen et al., 2008; Chen and Segil, 1999; Mellado Lagarde et ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only can the loss of inner hair cells lead to deafness, but so can the loss of outer hair cells. In rats, loss of 1/3 of OHCs will cause hearing impairment, and 2/3 loss will lead to deafness (Chen et al., 2008) . Supporting cells: Within the organ of Corti, there are also five different types of supporting cells with distinct morphologies: Hensen s cells are cuboidal or slightly oblong, inner phalangeal cells and border cells are columnar, and Deiters and pillar cells are elongated and have strong cytoskeletons for large structural demands (Wan et al., 2013). Like hair cells, supporting cells are also precisely arranged in the organ of Corti, by rows from the outer edge to the inner edge of the organ in the order of: Hensen s cells, Deiters cells, pillar cells, inner phalangeal cells, and border cells (Wan et al., 2013). One should note that supporting cells do not just take up space in the auditory epithelium. Loss of Deiters and pillar cells enviably leads to a loss of OHCs, causing deafness due lack of amplification (Mellado Lagarde et al., 2013). In addition, supporting cells also provide trophic factors, which are vital to the maintenance of spiral ganglion neurons (Monzack and Cunningham, 2013) Cell cycle exit and p27kip1 To get the right number of hair cells and supporting cells during development, ... His book The Turn of the Screw is one of his most vague and intriguing pieces and has therefore been a subject of much conflict among critics. Of all possible theories, most boil down to the reliability of the governess; is she telling the truth, or has she gone insane? The apparition of Miss Jessel forms from all the unacceptable sexual motives she finds within herself; a way to reprimand her behavior without villainizing herself . In addition, Jessel s affair with Quint reflects the governess s unconscious desire for a forbidden relationship with the master of Bly (Rodriguez 2). The ghosts provide her with a method to play out her fantasies while avoiding the consequences of an illegitimate child and harsh judgment, issues Jessel and Quint had experienced in their lives. Furthermore, the governess is afraid of scaring or tainting the innocence of the children with her abnormal behavior which is evident through her fear of the ghosts corrupting them. Seventy one years earlier, on July 29, 1890, Vincent van Gogh shot himself in the abdomen while painting a wheat field. Robin Williams hung himself on August 24, 2014, less than two centuries after Vincent van Gogh. Along with Ludwig von Beethoven, who died of natural causes in 1827, four of the greatest creative minds each suffered from bipolar disorder, depression, or epilepsy, usually suffering from other physical ailments as well. Ernest Hemingway was the only one to seem to have a genetic disposition towards mental illness. None of these men led similar lives. Van Gogh only saw one of his paintings sold, while Beethoven was an acclaimed composer by the age of twenty nine. Hemingway was friends with some of the greatest literary minds of the day, and Robin Williams was one of the most successful comedians to date. The common link, besides their mental illnesses, is the idea that each of these men were searching for something more within their respective arts. Four fields of fine arts that require the constant creation of something new claimed the lives of four men who gave it all they had, some losing, and some finding themselves along the way. The war was triggered between the two nations over the issue of impressment of American soldiers, and although Britain promised to stop, they continued to do so anyway, hence taunting the United States into entering the war. Now although the Americans lost the war, they did win something as a result of the two year battle and that was nationalism which later manifested itself in the country s judicial decisions, culture, politics, and foreign policy. With more wealth, more ideas were beginning to surface on how to better the American lifestyle amongst the states; one of those ideas was The American System brought up by Henry Clay. The goals of this system was to increase the country s wealth with an effective banking system, creating a set of roads and canals throughout the country to unite the states and spread information further, and do all that in correlation to another protective tariff placed on oversea trading. So as you can see because nationalism manifested itself in American politics to unite the country even more, different methods were proposed and carried out to better American lifestyle. Even when congress deemed some methods unconstitutional, the states sought individual ways in which they could improve the U.S like New York s construction of the Erie Canal. Nevertheless, the country began to undergo positive changes as a result of the political nationalism rising in the country. Culture is a part of everyday life and in the years to come after the war of 1812, nationalism would eventually manifest itself in American culture as well. American culture was usually demonstrated or portrayed through paintings, books, songs, and more. Now in order to grasp the concept of cultural nationalism, it s important to realize that Britain and the United States have fought once before where the U.S. Came out the victor. When looking at captivity narratives there is many different characteristics that can show if the document is reliable outside of any bias the author brought or that was inherent in the culture of that period. Defining a captivity narrative is a difficult job for many reasons. The chief reason is that since there are so many written concerning Indian captivity, it becomes necessary to have a category list or a type of checklist that could be used to look at the validity of a narrative as well as showcasing if it would be useful in any form. Looking through the narratives, defining good examples of narratives is necessary to show the reality of the situation for that period in terms of the idea of Indians and what helped to further found the inherent fear of whites over Indian capturing of white settlers as well as Indian violence. If they fall off, they fall off, but it it s bad if you say anything to them. • 32. Understanding Behavior And Family Dynamics Week 2 Assignment: Communication Tia Durkin ECE355: Understanding Behavior Family Dynamics Professor Jeremiah 15 January, 2016 Communication is the cornerstone of any relationship, but between parent and child it is both unique and special. It is forged and developed through love and a special bond that can only be understood by them. It begins before a child is even born, and continues through their life. Communication is how we make our thoughts, feelings, needs, and thoughts known. As babies, children convey this through cries and sounds; and is often best known by their parents who seem to know which cry and sound mean different things. It is imperative that this strong level of communication is fostered in a positive way, throughout their childhood. Having the ability to communicate effectively with our children is not only beneficial for them, but the entire family dynamic. A good majority of parents want what is best for their children, when communication is positive and reciprocal then it is reasonable to say that the relationship matches. This is why when parents are uninvolved or neglectful, we behavioral issues and a strong lack of respect from the child. • 35. The Educational Work Of Maria Montessori Maria Montessori was born on the 31st August 1870 in the town of Chiaravalle, Italy. Maria got her quest for knowledge from her parents who were both well educated. She started her education at a local state school and proceeded onto a technical institute where she intended to pursue a career in engineering. This was unusual at the time as there were barriers that constrained women s careers, leaving them with fewer options to pursue technical careers than their male contemporaries. Even after graduating from technical Maria yearned for me, this yearning led her to enroll in medical school against her father s wishes and faced with the challenges and prejudice she would face in this field. She triumphed through it all and in 1896 became the first woman to qualify as a doctor in Italy. A little into her career, Maria began working with mentally retarded children it was here that her observations would become fundamental to her future educational work. Montessori began to develop her philosophy and methods in 1897. She caught everyone s attention when most of her uneducable students passed the state test in reading and math, some scoring above average. Curious how such principles would work with the mainstream population of children, Montessori then opened her first school; Casa dei Bambini (Children s House) in 1907. Montessori education spread to the United States in 1911 and became popular and widely accepted. The educational philosophy however began to conflict with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Columbus left his father s business to join a sailing expedition which ended in a shipwreck near Portugal. He decided to stay in Portugal with his brother and started a family. After his wife died, he was interested in helping his country find a faster way to Asia without paying the Muslim Empire taxes. Since Columbus had read and heard that Asia could be reached by sailing west, he wanted to attempt this expedition and fulfill his dream of going to China. After seven years of not being able to find support for his exploration, he was finally lucky enough to get support from King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain. Christopher persevered and was willing to risk his life in order to gain fame, fortune, and fulfill his dream. Christopher was given 87 men and three ships, the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria, which left in August 1492. That was all he could ever grow, and he ended up plucking the two strands out either way. Looking aimlessly out the window, spurts of baby blue and bright green splashed his vision. He breathed out a short, tired sigh while his hands fiddled with the material of his pants. Academy. How fun, even farther away from my Jung ah. The day was the first day at Takai Academy, Hisao s first day, and he thoroughly enjoyed it. He released out another annoyed puff, but his mother finally was fed up with his moodiness. Yeah, did he ever mention that he was carpooling in the one of the chairwoman s company cars with his mom? In a complete awkward silence? It was wonderful. Hisao, I had enough of your attitude. I m more confused than I am surprised. This is typical of white people. Whenever the people of a region are savage, violent, and impoverished there is no doubt that they are black or brown. • 39. The Pros And Cons Of Estes Roadway The safety of the people shall be the highest law, (Cicero n.d. p1). Throughout history, the safety of people has been arguably the most important objective of the government. Political leaders have made a force including police, fire fighters, and etc. to keep the common population safe. Unfortunately the system set up is not the most efficient at locating mistakes that could potentially bring harm to citizens. Within the city of Longview, located in Texas, there is one of these mistakes posing a threat to the population of the city. On the south side of the city there is a three way intersection between the roads Estes Parkway (running north and south) and Highway 281 (running from the west to Estes Parkway). This intersection designed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of these solutions provide a viable way of increasing the safety of drivers in the intersection and also make the intersection easier to follow direction. The first solution is based upon the idea that the light pole will be shifted from the right side of Estes Parkway running north to the left side between the median. This solution would eliminate the two extra traffic lights above the parallel road, and focus on the intersection. The main issue with this idea is the cost involved with moving the traffic light. According to the WSDOT it costs the taxpayer $250,000 to $500,000 to purchase and install a traffic signal (WSDOT, n.d.). This also does not incorporate the amount of money that it would take to provide the construction to move the light from one side of the street to the other. Over all, this first solution could take upwards to 600,000 dollars to complete. The second solution to the intersection is based on the idea that the two traffic lights over the intersection could be taken down and in replacement there would be a sign placed in the spot instead. This would provide an easy understanding of the intersection and also the drivers would not be confused on which sign was meant for them. This change would save the city around 16,000 dollars a year based off of calculations from WSDOT in the amount of money it takes to maintain traffic lights a year. Again there would have to be a little construction, however, the cost to make this solution a reality would be much more cost efficient for the tax payers dollars. Finally, the third option is to completely redesign the intersection as a roundabout. The average cost to put an intersection in is just underneath 450,000 dollars (FHWA, 2015). That number however does not even begin to cover the operating expenses of the intersection. WSDOT amounts the cost of maintenance and electricity per year to be about 8,000 ...
