(RBV) in strategic management. This paper attempts to identify Wal Mart s core competencies,
applying RBV literature such as VRIO framework with supporting evidence from Wal Mart
Stores in 2003 case study. RBV suggests that each firm acquires a collection of capabilities,
which can be mobilised by strategists to gain competitive advantage (McGee et al., 2005). In
other words, a firm can be viewed as a bundle of resources, which are the drivers of strategy and
growth in a firm. When creating a unique product, a firm also develops a unique competence
(Mintzberg et al., 2009). Prahalad and Hamel (1990) ascertained that three tests could be used to

The Spanish American war was a conflict between Spain and America. It ended Spanish ruling in
the Americas and resulted in the expansion of territories in the Pacific and Latin America for the
US. During this period of imperialism, there were many influences driving the U.S. government.
The war started with Cubastruggling to gain their independence from Spain. However, Spain
rejected their notions by brutally stopping the Cuban rebellion. Newspapers began portraying
Spain as spiteful and the sympathy for the Cuban rebels rose in America. William Randolph
Hearst was responsible for exaggerating the truth in the papers about the fight for independence
from Spain. Hearst invented a term called yellow journalism , which exploits, distorts, or

Overview
On August 18, 2015, longtime Subway pitchman Jared Fogle was arrested under a child
pornography investigation. Quick to respond, Subway communicated to press via public comment
and Twitter on their stance. Hours after the arrest, Subway made public its separation from Fogle
and its disgust and lack of knowledge of the crimes committed. Because of their quick response,
while they were directly tied to Fogle, most of the negative response was placed on Fogle and not
