Argumentative Essay On Homeless Women
During the questioning of the subjects in a research sample dedicated to enquiring about the ability of
homeless women to cope with the traumatic events in their lives, Laura Huey, the writer of this article
and presumably head researcher, noticed that a number of women made vocal references to violence,
with varying levels of comfort regarding violence that they ve experienced, seen, and perpetrated. This
prompted Huey to research the reasons behind the expressed comfort levels for the benefit of
improving the effectiveness of social work with this demographic. The sample was collected on a
volunteer basis from a collection of eight organizations in the Los Angeles area dedicated to assisting
homeless women via transitional housing and sheltering. Collection of the information was done via
interviews, with the questions designed to determine the resiliency and coping mechanisms, trauma
history, and demographic information of each respondent. This qualitative information was then
analyzed, which showed a possible link between the respondents who mentioned violence and their
adoption of street culture, prompting the formation of eight subcategories to qualify street . Each
violence mentioning respondent then had her answers cross referenced against these eight
subcategories. Based upon the involvement with these subcategories shown in the responses, a sub
score was given for each subcategory: 1 = no or low involvement, 2 = moderate involvement, 3 = high

Ralph Waldo Emerson Art Analysis
Ralph Waldo Emerson, a famous writer, once said, Unless you try to do something beyond what you
have already mastered, you will never grow. This quote, in particular, resonates with me as an artist. It
reminds me of a chain of events that I experienced while trying to win a local art contest. Once you
get comfortable drawing or painting the same things over and over, it can be hard to try something
new. You have spent all this time to be successful in one thing, why start, and potentially fail, on
another? It can be hard to step out of your comfort zone, but in order to learn, it is something we all
have to do at some point or another. The experiences I had in relation to this quote prove exactly the
point that Ralph Waldo Emerson was trying to make; we all must branch out and try new things in
order to learn and prosper.
The aforementioned experiences I had were long and and very experimental for me. Once I become
accustomed to one thing, it is hard to break me off of it. I was very comfortable using bright, eye
catching watercolors to paint portraits; in fact, almost everything I create is extremely unrealistic. For
an upcoming art contest, however, I knew I would have to overstep my own boundaries. The judges
are very set in the style of art they look for, and I knew if I wanted to win that I would have to adjust.
By looking at previous winners pieces, I determined that my best option would be to paint a semi
realistic landscape. The problem is, in my short four

Intentional Interference With Property Case Summary
Interference with Property What is Interference with Property: Intentional interference with property is
the section under intentional tort law that protects a citizen from having their land trespassed on,
chattels stolen or obtained by people that should not have their items. It is also the act that protects
your rights as a Canadian citizen to privacy and protection of property. Types of Interference with
Property: There are four main sections under which intentional interference with property can be

SUMMARY ON THE CASE: The Board of Road Commissioners for Kent County (Board)
(defendant) had a license agreement to place a snow fence on land owned by Rogers (plaintiff)
husband. The Board set up the snow fence pursuant to the license agreement. Under the license
agreement, the fence, including the anchor posts, would be removed by the Board at the end of the
winter season. At the end of one winter season the Board removed the snow fence but did not remove
a steel anchor post that protruded six to eight inches above the ground. The grass in the area where the
post was located grew to a height that completely hid the post from one s view. On one particular day
in July, while Rogers husband was mowing an area where the snow fence had been located, the
mowing bar on her husband s tractor struck the steel post that was hidden from view. As a result of the
impact, Rogers husband was thrown from the seat of the tractor. Rogers husband died from the
accident. Rogers sued the Board for

Interpretation of Muir s Horses Essay
Interpretation of Muir s Horses
My interpretation of Edwin Muir s poem entitled Horses is one of a past memory and the conflict and
anger brought about by this memory , a conflict between light and darkness, good and evil in the mind
of a elderly dying man, fearing death as he gazes out across a field. The memory being that of a day
from his past, where he as a child farm worker watched a team of horses ploughing the stubble back
into the field during a rainy day which gets progressively more stormy. The horses making their way
to and fro across the field leaving furrows, the setting sunlight breaking through the clouds picking out
images in the distance. Images getting darker and more vivid as the horses drew nearer. A ... Show

The poem is in the form of a four line verse with an almost constant AA BB rhyme. The line lengths
are constant but some lines do run on into the next. The rhythm of the poem begins with a slow pace,
this is suggested by the word lumbering in line 1, then the piece begins to slowly pick up the tempo at
line 13. This tempo to me then builds with each successive line until a climax is reached with line 24.
The poet then purposely puts the brakes on the tempo by using repetition of the word fade line 25,
after which the tempo is the same as at the beginning. The religious theme to this poem is made by the
use of similes and metaphors in the horses descriptions. An example being their comparison to
seraphims of gold (line 11), seraphim s of course being an order of angels. Another being the use the
word bossy (line 15), a reference perhaps to the carved wooden bosses found high in the vaulting of
Gothic Church ceilings. He sets a creepy mood to the piece by the process of alliteration using the
letter m (line 12) to lower the tempo and tone prior to the fourth verse. It is here when the tempo
begins to gain momentum, another piece of alliteration is used in the form of the expression broad
breasted (line 14), which instills the idea that these creatures are big and so should make a larger
impact to us as they overpower the sinking sun. From now on the horses are taking on more and more
almost mythological properties, glowing with mysterious fire (line 19), and

Valentine s Day Crisis Summary
Liberty University
Response:
To implement a corporate advertising program at JetBlue would be beneficial in their public relations
issues stemming from the customer service snafu they experienced while planes sat on a tarmac.
However, in JetBlue s situation a corporate advertising program would not be sufficient to overcome
the customer service and communications issues stemming from the Valentine s Day crisis. What
JetBlue needed was an overhaul of their company culture which needed to start at the top. David
Neeleman recognized this when he discovered how many employees lacked the necessary training to
assist during a crisis. This lack of training, combined with the weather, is what ultimately caused all of
the delays in getting people

Effects of Illegal Whaling in The Southern Ocean Whale...
Whaling in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary (SOWS) is an ongoing issue despite laws and
regulations prohibiting commercial hunting in these waters. Whaling fleets from Japan use scientific
research to justify continued whaling in the Southern Ocean. Weak enforcement of the regulations set
up in the SOWS has allowed countries, most notably Japan, to continue their hunts with little
interference. If whaling continues in the SOWS, it may lead to irreversible effects to the ecosystem of
the Southern Ocean.
A steady decrease in whale populations can have a top down effect on many other species in the
ecosystem, especially penguin, seal, and krill. The reasoning is because whales are a keystone species

The Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary is located in waters surrounding Antarctica.

Whaling inside the southern ocean is strictly prohibited for commercial purposes; countries are
allowed to kill a certain number of whales per year for scientific research.
Ecosystem
To look at the ecosystem of the Southern Ocean, we will be referencing the food web created by
Laws.
The whales that are going to be focused are species of baleen whales found in the southern ocean.
These species are the fin whale, the blue whale, the sei whale, the humpback whale, and the minke
whale. As shown in the food web, the main food source of these whales is krill. This is important to
note in regards to the issues of prey switching, as well as krill surplus, which will be discussed later in
the research. (WHAT IS A BALEEN WHALE???)
Illegal Whale Hunting
Issue
The issue behind whaling in the Southern Ocean is mainly attributed to the permit of scientific
whaling in the southern ocean. Allowing scientific whaling in the Southern Ocean has sparked a
debate about what is considered research, and what is considered whaling, and many are coming to
realize there is a fine line between the two. Currently, the only country performing scientific whaling
in the Southern Ocean is Japan (Peace, 2010). The problem with Japans scientific whaling program is
that many believe it is being used as a cover for commercial whaling. According to Peace, most

Characteristics Of Killer Whales
Orcas are found in oceans everywhere both hot and humid and also cold from the icy waters of the
North and South poles to sultry seas. The killer whale is the most cosmically huge member of the
dolphin family, and there are about 5 various species of orcas in the oceans.
These amazing creatures hunt in pods that consist of 6 to 40 killer whales. They hunt for gigantic fish,
seal, and sea lion and frequently seabirds and mammals.
The orca s top speed is approximately 30 mph but can travel at 26 mph for long periods of time. It is
normal for an orca to swim more than 50 miles without going up for air.
Killer whales are massive animals that have an extremely large dorsal fin with the black and white
markings being their most unique feature. The

A Woman Who Was A Girl
Once upon a time there was a woman who was unexpectedly pregnant. She had big brown eyes, short
hair, and her physique was slim since she lived in the gym and practiced for volleyball. Even though
the little seed in the woman s stomach was not planned, her parents were overly excited for another
child. They already had two of their own to take care of but were ready for another challenge. A
couple months into the pregnancy, they were shocked to know the child was a girl. They had two boys
before that and thought they would have another one. Her parents did not know what to name their
first daughter, but her mother thought of Alinali, which many could not pronounce one bit. On the
other hand, her father thought of something simple, like Nicole.
Every day after she was born, her parents cherished her and their other two sons. They showed
unconditional love on a daily basis and always gave an abundant number of hugs and kisses. Three
years went by when Nicole and her siblings had one more addition to the family. Sadly, things began
to change. Her parents had struggled financially and were extremely stressed. Looking for ways to
help the family, both parents worked assiduously to bring money to the table, and that is why her
mother applied for a side job at a hotel. Injuring her back at her first job, which had dealt with cars,
her mother could not work no longer, so all the responsibility was left on the father. They managed
and were still very thankful, but the mother s

The Michigan Dogman Became A Part Of History
The Michigan Dogman became a part of history in 1887. A cryptozoological creature was reported in
Wexford County, Michigan. The creature is described as a 7 foot tall, blue eyed, canine like animal. It
is said to have the torso of a man and the fearful howl that sounds like a human scream. According to
the legends, the dogman appears in 10 year cycles. The next cycle beginning again in 2020. Sightings
of dogman have been reported in all of Michigan, even in the upper peninsula and southern Michigan.
The majority of the sightings have remained in the northwestern quadrant of lower Michigan.

The Golden Age Of Greek Essay

The Golden Age of Greece The golden age of Greece, especially the Periclean age of Athens, was
considered to be the defining age of Greek history. The amount of cultural and intellectual innovation
in Greece was at its height during the nearly 200 year period. From 500 300 BC, many great thinkers
and philosophers rose and gave many a new perspective on life.
As Matt Barrett explained, many philosopers, such as Socrates, dwelled in Athens, along with his then
pupil, Plato. Socrates was one of the first of the philosophers to believe that life was not for collecting
material possesions, or riches, but that it was for knowing oneself and the world around oneself.
Socrates was later executed and forced to drink Hemlock for corrupting the youth of the city. Plato,
Socrates pupil, was considered an idealist. Furthermore, according to Barrett, it is said that all
philosophy is but a footnote to Plato. (Barrett)
After the end of the Persian Wars, Athens began a nearly 50 year period of prosperity under Pericles,
known as the Age of Pericles. During this time the Parthenon was built, and Athens became the
cultural, intellectual, and the artistic center of the Greek world. Throughout this time period, Athens
attracted a number of intellectuals and philosophers, which brought about a cultural and intellectual
high point in Greek history. (Barrett)

Acute Operative Surgery And Surgical Stress Responses
Answer 1.
Understanding contraindications with post operative surgery and surgical stress responses in patients
with pre existing diseases or conditions, is the key pathogenic factor to understand. Post Surgical
stress responses include: Pain, Nausea, Hypoxemia, Muscle loss, Immobilisation and Sleep
disturbance etc. Increase on the demand of organ functions and activation of other biological
responses in the body, is the result of post operative surgical stress. These changes due to stress on
body functions are believed to be induced by endocrine metabolism and activation of several other
biological systems in our body. Although these changes are important for survival, if left prolonged,
they may give rise to loss of body cell mass and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This likely explains why his BSL was 17 on admission which is clearly above the normal range. This
is contributed to, by activation of the sympathetic nervous system (flight or fight response to stimulate
glycogen release from liver) and also cortisol release from the adrenal gland which has effects
primarily at the glucocorticoid receptors.
Hyperglycaemia results physiologically in glycosuria (exceeds the tubular maximum for reabsorption
at the proximal tubule) which leads to polyuria and subsequent polydipsia. Hyperglycaemia is not
optimal peri operatively because of the risk of infection and poor wound healing (Nickolas, Leonard,
Shane, 2008). Subsequent polyuria results in dehydration which is also not ideal in someone who is
already likely dehydrated from fluid losses and blood loss from the lower limb fracture. Hence the
need for IV fluid replacement is important.
In regards to the effect of the tibial fibula fracture on his co morbid hypertension, the fracture would
obviously cause intense pain due to its open nature and breach of periosteal bone. Subsequent pain
results in sympathetic drive with tachycardia through adrenaline and nor adrenaline s effects on alpha

Protecting Trade Secrets Is Beneficial
Firms develop some technologies that might not be patentable, might not be worth the cost of applying
for a patent, or might be more valuable if kept undisclosed. They prefer to keep knowledge of such
processes proprietary as trade secrets, or undisclosed information. Trade secrets are protected by legal
rules against learning by rivals through dishonest means. Such protection lapses if the technologies are
discovered by fair means, such as independent invention or reverse engineering. Protecting trade
secrets is beneficial to the extent it encourages the development and commercial use of sub patentable
inventions. Rules protecting trade secrets thus promote adaptive innovation and encourage learning

R D creates externalities and is a public good, its sale or use does not preclude others using it and can
be consumed by many without lessening its value (indeed we will argue that the greater the use of it,
in many cases the higher its value). It is difficult to price ideas to sell since this requires revealing
them and avoid the need to pay. Firms with innovations to sell are therefore unable to do so. There are
of course some caveats to these problems. Only firms which are already well informed in the relevant
R D are able to understand and exploit such research innovations ie developments in research
knowledge, although difficult to exclude others from knowing, are in fact difficult to understand and
develop further without the necessary absorptive capacity (Cohen and Levinthal 1990). Only those
people with considerable investment already in that area will be able to carry the ideas forward and
exploit them. Hence only those firms with substantial existing R D departments will be in a position to
commercialize the new research innovations of another producer. Problems of appropriability are
essentially about the low costs of transmitting information and if these costs turn out to be high, then
appropriability as a problem diminishes. Another caveat to the seriousness of the appropriability
problem is that firms with innovations benefit from being first in the field with information and
capture rents

Stress Is The Body s Way Of Demand
Stress is the body s way of responding to any kind of demand. People s bodies react in different ways
to stress depending on how the view and handle the demand. Stress can be caused by multiple factors
such as friends, family, jobs, schools, and worldview. The way we handle the different stresses of life
can either greatly improve our quality of life or harm it. There are two forms of coping with stress and
the first is problem focused coping. This form of coping is aimed at managing or correcting the
distressing situation (Coon, Psychology: modules for active learning). Then there is emotion focused
coping where we try to control the emotions caused by the situation. Both forms of coping can be used
in unison with each other. Being able to control your emotions could help you manage the stress in
your life. However, it is possible for the two methods to cancel each other out. When making a
difficult decision, a person may feel an intense form of emotional distress. In this moment, making an
easy decision seems like the best option to end the suffering but the easy decision might not be the
best one. The easy way out may cause later harm to a person s physical and mental wellbeing. The
harmful effects of stress on the human body is limitless. When under stress muscles in the body tense
up and become rigid. This is a defense mechanism used by the body to prevent injury. Frequent stress
and muscle tensing can potentially lead to stress related disorders such as ulcers,

Comparing and Contrasting the Atkins and South Beach...
Comparing and Contrasting the Atkins and South Beach Diets
The Atkins and South Beach diets appear to be the same, but they do have their differences. They both
suggest that limiting carbohydrates in ones? meals is a successful way to lose weight. Each diet also
consists of a series of phases where carb intake can gradually increase. Although these correlations
between the two diets make them difficult to be distinguished, they are in fact quite dissimilar.
Whereas the Atkins diet allows consumption of all fats and hardly any carbs, the South Beach diet
permits certain carbs and does not allow just any fat product. Another difference arises in the area of
long term effects as several nutritionists fear that Atkins may eventually ... Show more content on

In phase three, when the dieter has increased their daily carb intake to 25 ? 50 grams and is within 5 ?
10 pounds of his goal weight, 10 more grams of carbs are added to the diet (?The Phases of Atkins?).
When one?s ideal weight is reached, the dieter is to move on to phase four. Phase four is the lifetime
maintenance phase. Here, the dieter remains on a low carb intake and thus remains at his ideal weight.
Along with the benefits of Atkins come concerns over potential harms. Several studies have shown
that Atkins is safe for the short term but may have long term effects on the heart due to such high
amount of fat that are consumed (?South Beach: Like Atkins?). Other critics argue that without
carbohydrates, a person loses phytochemicals which are thought to protect against cancer (?Long
Term Affects of Atkins?). Worries over nutritional deficits continue to persist; however, there have
been no long term studies to confirm such concerns.
The South Beach diet?s function is to help one shed pounds by allowing only certain carbs and certain
fats. This diet advocates only unsaturated fats, such as those found in olive oil, nuts, and salmon, and
forbids fried fats such as bacon. The diet also allows carbs which are high in fiber like multigrain
bread and wild rice (?South Beach: Like Atkins?). The foods that this diet allows includes these
healthy carbs and oily fats as neither raises blood sugar which leads to weight gain.

The Impacts Of The Holocaust And The Holocaust
The Holocaust, a genocide which lasted from 1942 to 1945 in which around 6 million European
Jewish people were killed, was the result of the Ideals of the the past chancellor of Germany, Adolf
Hitler. Hitler came into power by capitalising on world wide events such as the great depression in
1929 resulting from the Wall Street crash. He began spreading his ideals of anti semitism to the
German population in preparation for the Final Solution , which became known as the Holocaust with
the assistance of propaganda, violence, and an economic boycott. Most of the impacts resulting from
his methods proved to be extremely valuable to the success of the preparation as they efficiently and
effectively brainwashed a hateful image of the Jewish population into the minds of the German people
and aligned them with Hitler s ideals of anti Semitism. However, some of his methods did were not
valuable to preparing the German people as they were not able to depict a hateful image of the Jews.
Propaganda was arguably one of the most effective ways for ideas to be spread around rapidly, In his
autobiography, Mien Kampf, Hitler states: Propaganda tries to force a doctrine on the whole people.....
Propaganda works on the general public from the standpoint of an idea and makes them ripe for the
victory of this idea. It shows that Hitler understood the effectiveness of propaganda and used it to
spread his anti Semitist ideals towards the German people to create a negative image of the Jewish

What It Means To Wood Privacy Fence
Wood privacy fences are an important component of a house especially one in the urban community. A
well chosen and appropriately designed fence affords homeowners the pleasure of enjoying their
private space without necessarily giving the impression of being an unfriendly neighbor. You don t
even have to fence the entire perimeter of the house. In some cases, even just short sections of fencing
in your property can already give you a semblance of solitude and discourage curious onlookers.
Keeping in mind the style and landscaping design of one s area, there are many fencing options to
choose from. Wood privacy fences make for some of the best privacy fences and come in a variety of
styles and materials. Vinyl fencing is also a suitable and cheaper alternative, or you can opt for a more
natural look with the use of greens shrubs and trees.
You need to be aware of the local rules ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This a privacy fence made from natural shrubs, trees and grasses. There are no policies on such fences
made from evergreen.
On top of this, you can also use bamboo, which is a very reliable privacy fence. You can also use
many other shrubs that flower and bring a great amount of foliage during the various seasons. You
might want to create a classic hedge look or a more fashionable boxwood privet. The choice is yours
and you are free to choose here.
If you want immediate results and don t want to be bothered with maintaining your fences, then
hardscape fences or the traditional privacy fences are clearly the best option for you. The project is
easy enough to do and the fence sections are light enough such that the average homeowner can do the
job himself. An essential factor to consider when doing the work yourself is if the fence that you put
up is strong enough to withstand strong winds. For fences 6 feet tall or less, fence posts should be dug

techniques of waste heat recovery Essay
Techniques of Waste Heat Recovery
Waste heat recovery is being more used more and more often today as it is becoming more effective,
due to increasing energy prices, technological developments and a decrease in equipment costs. Heat
recovery can be classified into three main strategies: recycling energy back into the process,
recovering the energy for other onsite use and using it to generate electricity in combined heat and
power systems. Once the system has been made as efficient as possible before using waste heat
recovery, passive strategies are used. These have no significant input for operation except for auxiliary
equipment such as pumps and fans. The last case is active strategies, which require some input of
energy to upgrade ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is capable of operating at 300ºC with around 70% heat recovery capability. They are used where
cross contamination between gas streams must be prevented in applications such as ovens and steam
boilers.
Run around coil exchangers
These are quite similar in principle to the heat pipe exchanger. The heat from the hot fluid is
transferred to the colder fluid via an intermediate fluid. One coil of this closed loop is installed in the
hot stream; the other in the cold stream and the circulation is maintained by means of a pump. This
application is used when the hot and cold fluids are located far away from each other and not easily
accessible.
Economizers
Used in boiler systems an economizer is used to pre heat the boiler water or combustion air using the
flue gas, in low to medium temperatures. These are used in domestic cases as well as in large
factories. They can increase the net thermal efficiency of a boiler by up to 15%.
Waste heat recovery boilers
They are ordinary water tube boilers in which the hot exhaust gases pass over a number of parallel
tubes containing water. The water is vaporized in the tubes and collected in a steam drum from which
it is drawn out for use as heating or processing steam.
Shell and tube heat exchangers
If the medium containing waste heat is a liquid or a vapor and is needed to heat another liquid both
paths must be sealed to contain the pressures of the respective fluids. The shell contains the tube

The Judiciary Of England And Wales
Subject: Law
Question Number or Title: It has been consistently argued that the judiciary in England and Wales is
not reflective of society. Critically consider the explanations for the lack of diversity within the
judiciary and the extent to which government legislation and initiatives have tried to increase diversity
within the judiciary?
Student number: 149011027

Over the years, judicial diversity has been an issue of concern for Wales and England. Reform
initiatives and debates for judicial diversity are critical features of various common law jurisdictions.
The country faces gender and ethnicity diversity as the major dimension of inclusiveness in the
judicial system. Critics have raised general ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This essay aims at assessing existing literature on the ethnic and gender composition in the English
and Wales judiciary. The essay will also illustrate the previous efforts of the government in achieving
diversity in the judiciary.
Gender is a critical dimension of judicial diversity illustrated by the proportions of positions awarded
to the males and females on the judiciary. There are different ways of rationalising judicial diversity
where judicial appointments follow policy and law that promotes equal opportunities. The judiciary
needs to show sensitivity to the experiences and needs of the different elements of legal systems where
the judiciary requires illustration of diversity for service as well as diverse judiciary with increased
accountability of legal democracies. The current preclusion the gender incorporation dictates the
alternative dimension regarding judicial diversity. Features of judicial initiatives towards achieving
ethnic and gender diversity are assessed through qualitative and quantitative perceptions and
experiences of judicial bias.
Nowadays, diversity and equality in England and Wales are matters that professional bodies face and
deliberate in their annual reports. Law Society s websites illustrate commitment towards playing
leading roles to eliminate discrimination through promoting equality of opportunities and diversities in
activities and regulation of representative bodies and employment.

Compare And Contrast Lamb To The Slaughter And Fahrenheit 451
The Escape From Murder
Is it really that hard to get away with murder? According to the novels of Fahrenheit 451 written by
Ray Bradbury and Lamb to the Slaughter written by Roald Dahl, the protagonists of both stories kill
their antagonists and escape murder quite easily. Guy Montag, (the main protagonist in Fahrenheit
451) and Mary Maloney (the main protagonist in Lamb to the Slaughter ) Both share similarities and
have their differences throughout the story. Despite the stories having a few differences in the society
they live in, the similarities outweigh the differences greatly. The three reasons the two stories are very
similar is because of the betrayal of Mary s and Montag s spouses, Montag and Mary murder the
antagonists, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Montag fled to Faber s house and then to the river so the scent that he was leaving behind for the
mechanical hound to follow would be erased. He floated on back while the valise filled and sank ( 140
). This quote explains what he did when he got to the river and how he was using the river. Mary got
away with her murder by giving herself an alibi by going to the grocer while Patrick s death occurred
and had the murder weapon destroyed. One of them belched [while eating the lamb] Personally, I
think [the murder weapon] is right here on this premises! ( ). This quote means that mary got the
detectives to eat the lamb that she used to kill Patrick, therefor removing any thought that she was the
suspect for Patrick s murder.
The three main similarities between Mary and Montag is based on the betrayal of spouses, the
murdering of antagonists, and the process of getting away with murder. There are many similarities
between these two stories, despite having some differences. The two characters show why and how
they murdered the antagonists of the story. The two stories also show how the characters escaped their
crimes. After reading Fahrenheit 451 and Lamb to the slaughter, Is it really that hard to get away with

V-J Day In Times Square By Alfred Eisenstaedt
In every photograph there is a story created by the photographer. The purpose of the photographs we
see every in the newspapers or online isn t always to explain what is going on in that place or to show
a viewer what could be considered the truth. Photography is a form of document that is bias towards
the photographer taking it because, in reality, every person sees the world differently. What one sees in
in so many ways different than what the person next to them sees. A camera gives someone complete
power over the perception of the photo from portraits to war photos and it s up to the viewer to
understand that they re seeing one frame of a much larger story.
Photography in any form is just a type of document, and yes while it does hide more than it discloses
(Sontang) it simply shows just one person s perception of a situation. When given a camera
photographers are going to shoot what they see and what they believe other people should see whether
that be destruction in peace or calm in chaos. No two people see the same thing from the exact same
point of view and as a result they only see part of the picture. For example in the book Century by
Bruce Bernard the reader gets to look at a very developmental century through photography taken
around the world. This book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Commentary On The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby
(adapted for the stage by Simon Levy)
Introduction
F. Scott Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby is an impressive social commentary on many themes
such as power, money, greed, social status, and so on. The Great Gatsby is originally a novel which
has been adapted as a play by Simon Levy. I intend to look at the theoretical aspects of this play and
my major focus will be on the social stratification, inequality and gender roles in the American life at
that time. The story of the Great Gatsby falls into the timeline of the 1920s.
The Story
The story of the Great Gatsby is very interesting. It takes place in Long Island in America. A
mysterious man Jay Gatsby builds a mansion in West Egg (a fictional place in Long island). Jay ...

The Buchanans would never accept Gatsby as being in the same social status as them because the
Buchanans have had wealth and power in the family for generations and Gatsby had just acquired the
wealth. The Buchanans know that Gatsby comes from the lower class background and so they think
Gatsby s manner, behavior and taste can never match that of the Buchanans. Warner, Meeker and Eels
(2006) describe the concept of the American Dream as follows: In the bright glow and warm presence
of the American Dream all men are born free and equal. Everyone in the American Dream has the
right, and often the duty, to try to succeed and to do his best to reach the top . Warner, Meeker and
Eells do consider this definition of American Dream contradictory though as they state that If all men
are born equal, there can be no top level to strive for. No such equality, neither in position nor in
opportunity, exists and that a person s opportunities are very much dependent on family background
(Warner, Meeker Eells 2006). So, Gatsby s wealth still doesn t let him enter the elite social class and
this shows the inequality between the rich. During the play, we can clearly see this when Daisy
Buchanan is completely dazzled in the new found riches of Jay Gatsby but later when Tom exposes
Gatsby about his shady businesses, Daisy s reaction is of shock and she stops talking to Gatsby after
that. For Daisy, just being wealthy is

Analysis Of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is the fifth album released by American artist Kanye West. The
album was released in 2010 following the rapper s controversial VMA incident involving Taylor Swift
and Beyonce and in the midst of Kanye s struggling relationship (My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
by Kanye West). Kanye explores the unspoken sorrows of fame and love in MBDTF. Kanye opens his
fifth studio album with the song Dark Fantasy and a monologue from fellow artist, Nicki Minaj. The
hook of Dark Fantasy repeats Can we get much higher? So high (Kanye West). West seems to believe
that at this point in his career he has reached the peaks of the hip hop and rap industry. This hook is
followed by many other boastful lines such as an announcement of his new Lamborghini and arrogant
statements on his supermodel girlfriend and designer clothes. Due to the pompous nature of Dark
Fantasy, it established itself as one of my least favorite songs on the album. However, there is one line
in the song that I actually enjoyed and found powerful, Sorry for the night demons that still visit me,
The plan was to drink until the pain over, But what s worse, the pain of the hangover? (Kanye West).
Kanye West admits that he himself has problems and he resorts to drinking to ease the pain. I found
that Kanye admitting one of his own faults was a great way to wrap up an arrogant song. Dark Fantasy
is followed by a deep song titled Gorgeous, addressing the topic of racial injustice in

Essay about Beowulf and Superman
A hero is defined in classical mythology as a man, especially the son of a god and a mortal, who is
famous for possessing some extraordinary gift. Beowulf, the title character of an epic poem and
Superman, a more modern day hero are both prime examples. Beowulf and Superman exhibit several
differences, but they also share some similar qualities.
Beowulf possessed great strength that separated him from other men. Being able to use a sword that
no ordinary man was able to carry gives the feeling that Beowulf is something more than a human
being. It makes him special and causes him to stand out from all other men. Fame is something that
makes a hero more noted. Beowulf s popularity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was doubtful about himself and knew that this battle would be his last.
Superman, also known as Clark Kent, is the most popular modern day hero. Superman spent most of
his time saving people from natural disasters and corrupt businessmen. He would level slums to force
the city to build decent housing, and he would use his powers to terrorize munitions makers.
When Superman encounters Kryptonite for the first time it first appears as a red glowing substance,
which Superman uses his powers on to trace its origin. Superman then pays for his discovery of
Kryptonite when Luthor learns to synthesize it, causing it to remain green forever on. Gravity of Earth
did not prove to be a good enough reason for Superman s powers, thus they attributed his super senses
to the yellow sun radiation, and
his muscular strength, speed, and flight due to the Earth s gravity. Due to the new explanation of his
powers, Superman no longer had super powers on a world without a yellow sun. Lex Luthor and other
villains began to create weapons that used quot;red sun radiation quot; which made Superman s life
miserable.
During the course of the battle for Truth and Justice, man and sword came together at last. Holding the
sword, Superman found himself expanding, spreading across the winds of the universe. The entire
history of creation flooded his mind, and his consciousness expanded as he became and all seeing and

one s ability to trust other individuals and their frequency in watching news programs about politics
and current events plays a role in trust in Congress. The topic of trust in Congress is worth exploring

In fact, daily Senate and House hearings can be seen on television and on the web. The fact that

trusted and that watch news or programs about politics and current events are more likely to trust
Congress.
Data and Methods I will be using a mixed methods approach to answer my research question. Both
bivariate and multivariate statistical methods will be used to analyze my data. Bivariate measures that

  • 2. Argumentative Essay On Homeless Women During the questioning of the subjects in a research sample dedicated to enquiring about the ability of homeless women to cope with the traumatic events in their lives, Laura Huey, the writer of this article and presumably head researcher, noticed that a number of women made vocal references to violence, with varying levels of comfort regarding violence that they ve experienced, seen, and perpetrated. This prompted Huey to research the reasons behind the expressed comfort levels for the benefit of improving the effectiveness of social work with this demographic. The sample was collected on a volunteer basis from a collection of eight organizations in the Los Angeles area dedicated to assisting homeless women via transitional housing and sheltering. Collection of the information was done via interviews, with the questions designed to determine the resiliency and coping mechanisms, trauma history, and demographic information of each respondent. This qualitative information was then analyzed, which showed a possible link between the respondents who mentioned violence and their adoption of street culture, prompting the formation of eight subcategories to qualify street . Each violence mentioning respondent then had her answers cross referenced against these eight subcategories. Based upon the involvement with these subcategories shown in the responses, a sub score was given for each subcategory: 1 = no or low involvement, 2 = moderate involvement, 3 = high ... • 3. Ralph Waldo Emerson Art Analysis Ralph Waldo Emerson, a famous writer, once said, Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow. This quote, in particular, resonates with me as an artist. It reminds me of a chain of events that I experienced while trying to win a local art contest. Once you get comfortable drawing or painting the same things over and over, it can be hard to try something new. You have spent all this time to be successful in one thing, why start, and potentially fail, on another? It can be hard to step out of your comfort zone, but in order to learn, it is something we all have to do at some point or another. The experiences I had in relation to this quote prove exactly the point that Ralph Waldo Emerson was trying to make; we all must branch out and try new things in order to learn and prosper. The aforementioned experiences I had were long and and very experimental for me. Once I become accustomed to one thing, it is hard to break me off of it. I was very comfortable using bright, eye catching watercolors to paint portraits; in fact, almost everything I create is extremely unrealistic. For an upcoming art contest, however, I knew I would have to overstep my own boundaries. The judges are very set in the style of art they look for, and I knew if I wanted to win that I would have to adjust. By looking at previous winners pieces, I determined that my best option would be to paint a semi realistic landscape. The problem is, in my short four ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Trespass to Land, Nuisance, Chattels, Conversion) Case Study Rogers v. Board of Road Com rs for Kent County BRIEF SUMMARY ON THE CASE: The Board of Road Commissioners for Kent County (Board) (defendant) had a license agreement to place a snow fence on land owned by Rogers (plaintiff) husband. The Board set up the snow fence pursuant to the license agreement. Under the license agreement, the fence, including the anchor posts, would be removed by the Board at the end of the winter season. At the end of one winter season the Board removed the snow fence but did not remove a steel anchor post that protruded six to eight inches above the ground. The grass in the area where the post was located grew to a height that completely hid the post from one s view. On one particular day in July, while Rogers husband was mowing an area where the snow fence had been located, the mowing bar on her husband s tractor struck the steel post that was hidden from view. As a result of the impact, Rogers husband was thrown from the seat of the tractor. Rogers husband died from the accident. Rogers sued the Board for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Interpretation of Muir s Horses Essay Interpretation of Muir s Horses My interpretation of Edwin Muir s poem entitled Horses is one of a past memory and the conflict and anger brought about by this memory , a conflict between light and darkness, good and evil in the mind of a elderly dying man, fearing death as he gazes out across a field. The memory being that of a day from his past, where he as a child farm worker watched a team of horses ploughing the stubble back into the field during a rainy day which gets progressively more stormy. The horses making their way to and fro across the field leaving furrows, the setting sunlight breaking through the clouds picking out images in the distance. Images getting darker and more vivid as the horses drew nearer. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem is in the form of a four line verse with an almost constant AA BB rhyme. The line lengths are constant but some lines do run on into the next. The rhythm of the poem begins with a slow pace, this is suggested by the word lumbering in line 1, then the piece begins to slowly pick up the tempo at line 13. This tempo to me then builds with each successive line until a climax is reached with line 24. The poet then purposely puts the brakes on the tempo by using repetition of the word fade line 25, after which the tempo is the same as at the beginning. The religious theme to this poem is made by the use of similes and metaphors in the horses descriptions. An example being their comparison to seraphims of gold (line 11), seraphim s of course being an order of angels. Another being the use the word bossy (line 15), a reference perhaps to the carved wooden bosses found high in the vaulting of Gothic Church ceilings. He sets a creepy mood to the piece by the process of alliteration using the letter m (line 12) to lower the tempo and tone prior to the fourth verse. It is here when the tempo begins to gain momentum, another piece of alliteration is used in the form of the expression broad breasted (line 14), which instills the idea that these creatures are big and so should make a larger impact to us as they overpower the sinking sun. From now on the horses are taking on more and more almost mythological properties, glowing with mysterious fire (line 19), and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Valentine s Day Crisis Summary Liberty University Response: To implement a corporate advertising program at JetBlue would be beneficial in their public relations issues stemming from the customer service snafu they experienced while planes sat on a tarmac. However, in JetBlue s situation a corporate advertising program would not be sufficient to overcome the customer service and communications issues stemming from the Valentine s Day crisis. What JetBlue needed was an overhaul of their company culture which needed to start at the top. David Neeleman recognized this when he discovered how many employees lacked the necessary training to assist during a crisis. • 8. Effects of Illegal Whaling in The Southern Ocean Whale... Whaling in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary (SOWS) is an ongoing issue despite laws and regulations prohibiting commercial hunting in these waters. Whaling fleets from Japan use scientific research to justify continued whaling in the Southern Ocean. Weak enforcement of the regulations set up in the SOWS has allowed countries, most notably Japan, to continue their hunts with little interference. If whaling continues in the SOWS, it may lead to irreversible effects to the ecosystem of the Southern Ocean. A steady decrease in whale populations can have a top down effect on many other species in the ecosystem, especially penguin, seal, and krill. The reasoning is because whales are a keystone species in the Southern Ocean (Ainley, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary is located in waters surrounding Antarctica. (NEED CITE) Whaling inside the southern ocean is strictly prohibited for commercial purposes; countries are allowed to kill a certain number of whales per year for scientific research. Ecosystem To look at the ecosystem of the Southern Ocean, we will be referencing the food web created by Laws. The whales that are going to be focused are species of baleen whales found in the southern ocean. These species are the fin whale, the blue whale, the sei whale, the humpback whale, and the minke whale. As shown in the food web, the main food source of these whales is krill. This is important to note in regards to the issues of prey switching, as well as krill surplus, which will be discussed later in the research. (WHAT IS A BALEEN WHALE???) Illegal Whale Hunting Issue The issue behind whaling in the Southern Ocean is mainly attributed to the permit of scientific whaling in the southern ocean. Allowing scientific whaling in the Southern Ocean has sparked a debate about what is considered research, and what is considered whaling, and many are coming to realize there is a fine line between the two. Currently, the only country performing scientific whaling in the Southern Ocean is Japan (Peace, 2010). The problem with Japans scientific whaling program is that many believe it is being used as a cover for commercial whaling. According to Peace, most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. A Woman Who Was A Girl Once upon a time there was a woman who was unexpectedly pregnant. She had big brown eyes, short hair, and her physique was slim since she lived in the gym and practiced for volleyball. Even though the little seed in the woman s stomach was not planned, her parents were overly excited for another child. They already had two of their own to take care of but were ready for another challenge. A couple months into the pregnancy, they were shocked to know the child was a girl. They had two boys before that and thought they would have another one. Her parents did not know what to name their first daughter, but her mother thought of Alinali, which many could not pronounce one bit. On the other hand, her father thought of something simple, like Nicole. Every day after she was born, her parents cherished her and their other two sons. They showed unconditional love on a daily basis and always gave an abundant number of hugs and kisses. Three years went by when Nicole and her siblings had one more addition to the family. Sadly, things began to change. Her parents had struggled financially and were extremely stressed. Looking for ways to help the family, both parents worked assiduously to bring money to the table, and that is why her mother applied for a side job at a hotel. Injuring her back at her first job, which had dealt with cars, her mother could not work no longer, so all the responsibility was left on the father. Sightings of dogman have been reported in all of Michigan, even in the upper peninsula and southern Michigan. • 12. The Golden Age Of Greek Essay Kevin S. Burton Sohn English II Honors 7 April 2015 Word Count: 1360 The Golden Age of Greece The golden age of Greece, especially the Periclean age of Athens, was considered to be the defining age of Greek history. The amount of cultural and intellectual innovation in Greece was at its height during the nearly 200 year period. From 500 300 BC, many great thinkers and philosophers rose and gave many a new perspective on life. As Matt Barrett explained, many philosopers, such as Socrates, dwelled in Athens, along with his then pupil, Plato. Socrates was one of the first of the philosophers to believe that life was not for collecting material possesions, or riches, but that it was for knowing oneself and the world around oneself. Socrates was later executed and forced to drink Hemlock for corrupting the youth of the city. Plato, Socrates pupil, was considered an idealist. Furthermore, according to Barrett, it is said that all philosophy is but a footnote to Plato. Understanding contraindications with post operative surgery and surgical stress responses in patients with pre existing diseases or conditions, is the key pathogenic factor to understand. Post Surgical stress responses include: Pain, Nausea, Hypoxemia, Muscle loss, Immobilisation and Sleep disturbance etc. Increase on the demand of organ functions and activation of other biological responses in the body, is the result of post operative surgical stress. These changes due to stress on body functions are believed to be induced by endocrine metabolism and activation of several other biological systems in our body. This is contributed to, by activation of the sympathetic nervous system (flight or fight response to stimulate glycogen release from liver) and also cortisol release from the adrenal gland which has effects primarily at the glucocorticoid receptors. Hyperglycaemia results physiologically in glycosuria (exceeds the tubular maximum for reabsorption at the proximal tubule) which leads to polyuria and subsequent polydipsia. Hyperglycaemia is not optimal peri operatively because of the risk of infection and poor wound healing (Nickolas, Leonard, Shane, 2008). Subsequent polyuria results in dehydration which is also not ideal in someone who is already likely dehydrated from fluid losses and blood loss from the lower limb fracture. R D creates externalities and is a public good, its sale or use does not preclude others using it and can be consumed by many without lessening its value (indeed we will argue that the greater the use of it, in many cases the higher its value). It is difficult to price ideas to sell since this requires revealing them and avoid the need to pay. Firms with innovations to sell are therefore unable to do so. There are of course some caveats to these problems. Only firms which are already well informed in the relevant R D are able to understand and exploit such research innovations ie developments in research knowledge, although difficult to exclude others from knowing, are in fact difficult to understand and develop further without the necessary absorptive capacity (Cohen and Levinthal 1990). Only those people with considerable investment already in that area will be able to carry the ideas forward and exploit them. Hence only those firms with substantial existing R D departments will be in a position to commercialize the new research innovations of another producer. Problems of appropriability are essentially about the low costs of transmitting information and if these costs turn out to be high, then appropriability as a problem diminishes. • 15. Stress Is The Body s Way Of Demand Stress is the body s way of responding to any kind of demand. People s bodies react in different ways to stress depending on how the view and handle the demand. Stress can be caused by multiple factors such as friends, family, jobs, schools, and worldview. The way we handle the different stresses of life can either greatly improve our quality of life or harm it. There are two forms of coping with stress and the first is problem focused coping. This form of coping is aimed at managing or correcting the distressing situation (Coon, Psychology: modules for active learning). Then there is emotion focused coping where we try to control the emotions caused by the situation. Both forms of coping can be used in unison with each other. Being able to control your emotions could help you manage the stress in your life. However, it is possible for the two methods to cancel each other out. When making a difficult decision, a person may feel an intense form of emotional distress. In this moment, making an easy decision seems like the best option to end the suffering but the easy decision might not be the best one. The easy way out may cause later harm to a person s physical and mental wellbeing. The harmful effects of stress on the human body is limitless. When under stress muscles in the body tense up and become rigid. This is a defense mechanism used by the body to prevent injury. The purpose of the photographs we see every in the newspapers or online isn t always to explain what is going on in that place or to show a viewer what could be considered the truth. Photography is a form of document that is bias towards the photographer taking it because, in reality, every person sees the world differently. Due to the new explanation of his powers, Superman no longer had super powers on a world without a yellow sun. Lex Luthor and other villains began to create weapons that used quot;red sun radiation quot; which made Superman s life miserable. During the course of the battle for Truth and Justice, man and sword came together at last. Holding the sword, Superman found himself expanding, spreading across the winds of the universe. The topic of trust in Congress is worth exploring to identify factors that encourage and/or discourage individuals from trusting government institutions. Moreover, trust in government institutions may affect people s choices in deciding to vote, joining political groups, enlisting in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, daily Senate and House hearings can be seen on television and on the web. The fact that Congress has some transparency enables individuals to trust in that institution to some extent. To test my two theories, I hypothesize that individuals who believe (even if minimal) that people can be trusted and that watch news or programs about politics and current events are more likely to trust Congress. Data and Methods I will be using a mixed methods approach to answer my research question. Both bivariate and multivariate statistical methods will be used to analyze my data. Bivariate measures that will be employed are Pearson s R and Pearson s R Square. Meanwhile, a multiple regression analysis will be utilize as my multivariate statistical method to analyze data. The data I will be analyzing comes from the United States Citizenship, Involvement (CID) Survey conducted in 2006. The survey was produced by Georgetown University s Center for Democracy and Civil Society (CDACS) with an aim at illustrating American civic engagement in comparative perspective (Howard, Gibson, Stolle, 2006, p.3).
