Arguments For And Against The Early Anthropogenic Hypothesis
11,700 years ago the geological epoch the Holocene was thought to of began following the Pleistocene
epoch, together these time periods make up the Quaternary period. The Holocene has been described
as being relatively warm and with a fairly stable climate. Not only this, but it is thought to coincide
with the start of agriculture as human populations rose throughout the Holocene technology became
more sophisticated aiding the rise of agriculture (Holden, 2012). The early anthropogenic hypothesis
was published in 2003 by Professor W.F. Ruddiman, this was a three part hypothesis in which
Ruddiman proposed humans reversed natural decreases in CO2 values within the atmosphere by
deforestation. That they reversed natural methane decreases after 5,000 years by irrigating rice, they
also caused a warming sufficient to prevent a new glaciation within the last several thousand years and
during the Holocene (Ruddiman 2005). This hypothesis has attracted a lot of attention with many
people both supporting it and criticising it. Throughout this essay I will be exploring the many
arguments for and against the early anthropogenic hypothesis and stating whether or not human kind
could have prevented the start of an ice age during the Holocene. One of the parts of Ruddimans three
part early anthropogenic hypothesis focusses on the anomalous rise in methane after 5,000 years. By
looking at the past three interglaciations methane levels should have fallen from ~700 ppb to a level
such as

How Did George Beadle Contribute To Science
George Beadle was a very known and interesting biologist that helped the advancement of genetic
science. He won the noble prize for his works, and was recognized as a very successful geneticist. His
plan was to mutate nerve spores, and his success didn t come until the 299th culture. His perseverance
and dedication to science led him to advancement in genetic science. George Beadle lived a long and
successful life. He was born on October 28th, 1903. He was raised in a town called Wahoo, Nebraska.
He died on June 9th, 1989 in Pomona, California. George Beadle died from Alzheimer s. His life was

Queenie in A P
Flat characters are minor characters in a work of fiction who do not undergo substantial change or
growth in the course of a story. A minor character in a story is not the leader of the story, they are a
supporting character to the protagonist and they give a contrast to the protagonist in a story. In the
story A P by John Updike, the story begins by illustrating Sammy as a young cashier who is cynical
and loathsome of his current situation. He is infatuated by a pretty young girl, the minor character,
who is referred to as Queenie. Queenie is very important in this story because of the conflicts she
causes. Queenie enters the story when she walks into the local A P grocery store with her friends
wearing nothing but bathing suits. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Social, Political, And Economical Innovation
Throughout the past 20 years, the focus on the World Wide Web has been a compelling area of social,
political, and economical innovation. At one time, the internet was a tool that promoted collaboration
in the realm of research as it was used as a means of sharing scholarly documents between
universities. However, since that time, the internet has evolved into being a way of life. Many people
use the terms Internet and World Wide Web, or just the Web, interchangeably, but the two terms are
not synonymous. The World Wide Web is the primary application that billions of people use on the
Internet, and it has changed their lives immeasurably (author unknown,

This concept will be clarified later in the paper. Hence, the critical thing to focus on is that, when on
the web, hyperlinks can be utilized to navigate through and interact with web based content and
resources.
In order to access the web, one must utilize a tool called a web browser. World Wide Web browser
software, such as Microsoft s Internet Explorer and Google Chrome, lets users navigate from one web
page to another via hyperlinks embedded in the documents. These documents may also contain any
combination of computer data, including graphics, sounds, text, video, multimedia and interactive
content that runs while the user is interacting with the page. Client side software can include
animations, games, office applications and scientific demonstrations. Through keyword driven
Internet research using search engines like Yahoo! and Google, users worldwide have easy, instant
access to a vast and diverse amount of online information. Compared to printed media, books,
encyclopedias and traditional libraries, the World Wide Web has enabled the decentralization of
information on a large scale (author unknown, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet). This more
formal explanation of how the web works now opens the door to a detailed discussion on the concept
of what URL means.

What Are Buddhist Teachings Affecting Buddhist Adherents
There are various Buddhist teachings, each having significant impacts on and affecting the Buddhist
adherents differently. The ultimate goal of Buddhist adherents to the reach Nirvana, they achieve this
through ridding themselves of desire and Dukkha(suffering). The main Buddhist teachings are the five
precepts, the four noble truths and the eightfold path. These act as a guideline for the Buddhist
adherents on their path towards reaching enlightenment by helping deal with modern issues such as
bioethics. Similarly, many influential figures such as the Dalai Lama, Buddhaghosa and Dogen teach
as a role model for Buddhist adherents to follow and guide them closer towards nirvana. Through both

Chocolate Is An Unhealthy Snack
Chocolate is a famous treat among many households in America and the rest of the world. This
confection that has been around for ages started from the same processes that made the chocolate that
is eaten today. It is often thought to be an unhealthy snack can also be beneficial to daily life.
Although the choice of milk or dark can be overwhelming there are some pros and cons for each.
Chocolate is a delicious treat that can be beneficial yet enjoyable to one s health and lifestyle if it is
used the right way. Chocolate has a rich history beginning of chocolate can date back some 3100

A bean is the beginning of all chocolate and chocolate based products found today. Cocoa, also
referred to as cacao after the tree, comes from the cacao plant (Elaine) that is usually grown in
plantations near the equator and low latitude areas (Castelvecchi)(History). They are planted in the
shade provided by much larger trees, such as bananas and mangoes; a mature cocoa is estimated to
produce around five pounds of chocolate a year (History). Cacao farmers use agroforestry, which
intertwines the practices of agriculture with the natural ways of the forest. They also use sustainable
methods where they plant tall, favorable crops that are native to the area and give cover to the cacao
tree for its needed shade; these crops not only give shade to the trees but also provide other natural
resources, such as fruit, rubber, wood, etc. The cacao trees grow well in the shade farms just like they
do in a rain forest, while also providing a place for wildlife to roam freely like they do in their natural
habitat, and serving as a buffer between forests and developed regions. Some forty to fifty million
people rely on cocoa as their means of living. Farmers earn more income from crops than they did
before, due in part to the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF). Since farmers incomes are increasing,
there is more improvement in communities as well as promoting better nutrition and schools for
children (The Story). The cacao bean may only be just a bean

History
Mesopotamian Scientific Developments and Aspects The Mesopotamians pioneered several modern
day scientific principles and tools and contributed greatly to the development of future civilizations.
(3) The Mesopotamians lived in what is in and near modern day Saudi Arabia between the rivers
Tigris and Euphrates. This is what lead to their name, as Mesopotamian means between two rivers in
greek. Mesopotamia was a land of many different city states and cultures unified for the advancement
of all in Mesopotamia. These cultural differences run very deep within the different city states of
Mesopotamia, and these differences contributed heavily to the Mesopotamians scientific advances and
ironically, lead to their actual unification as a single culture and civilization.(3) (2) (5) One of the most
important developments that lead into this was the development of story telling and writing in ancient
Mesopotamia. Writing in ancient Mesopotamia came about around 4000 B.C. and began to develop
into a major cultural aspect in Mesopotamia via the development of many stories and records. This
writing was imprinted on clay tablets and other clay based constructs throughout the existence of the
civilization. Thousands of tablets and other Mesopotamian writings were made through chiseling or
rolling shapes and hieroglyphs onto the clay tablets. Many of these tablets have been discovered in
relatively good condition, allowing them to be translated and

Gilead And Powerlessness
Most people feel powerless. They don t think they can affect larger events because they don t have
money or political power. This makes many people not even try, instead acting selfishly, looking after
themselves above the greater good. Offred is an exemplar of this phenomenon. She represents an
average person, who feels powerless, and largely acts in self interest. This makes her, and everybody
who thinks like her, complicit in Gilead s rise. Their feeling of powerlessness does not justify their
selfishness. Throughout the book Offered thinks she is powerless. When Gilead was forming, she
never went to any of the marches resisting its rise, ostensibly because she thought it wouldn t matter.

This is a very human response. She is values her comfort over everybody else s, and instinct that is
very strong in all of us. It is also an incredibly selfish instinct, and in this case, Offred falling victim to
it makes Gilead stronger. Emotions continue to be a strong force in driving Offred s selfishness,
specifically when Serena Joy gives her a photo of her daughter in return for seeing Nick. I can t let go
of this hope she says, referring to her hope that her daughter is somehow ok after everything that
happened (206). Of course she values this hope, any parent would. However, from a rational
perspective, it is a very selfish decision. That photo gives her hope, a feeling that makes her feel good.
It doesn t help her daugter of anybody else. The only way to do that would be to weaken Gilead,
which she could have done if she had instead demanded some information from Serena Joy that
Mayday could use. Most people would make the same choice as her, me included. Those emotions are
incredibly hard to resist. However, they still make us act selfishly, and in the process, make the world
a worse place. In many ways, Offred and everyone like her are why Gilead exists. They didn t resist
Gilead s rise, didn t band together, and looked out for themselves and their loved ones above the great
good. Atwood is telling use that regimes do not rise in back rooms or on the battlefield. They rise
when the average person doesn t stand up and selflessly fight

Critical Pedagogy And The Reggio Emilia
Critical pedagogy and The Reggio Emilia approach on play based learning should be merged into
early childhood education as obtaining the skills to critically analyze and problem solve has the
potential to change society and thus the potential to change the world.
It is important individuals become aware of what critical pedagogy is. Critical pedagogy stems from
the idea that there is an unequal social structure in our society which is based upon class, race and
gender. It has been formulated and influenced by many psychologists and philosophers including John
Dewey and Paulo Freire. Critical pedagogy is an attempt at freedom from oppression through
democratic critical thinking. In critical pedagogy the knowledge learned within the classroom should
correlate with and not be separated from any social structure, culture, politics, economics or any
ideology taking place with society. The idea is, that in order to orchestrate change, individuals must
become aware of the social, cultural, ideological, and or economic influence exerted upon society.
Once the individual becomes aware of the hegemony taking place they can then analyze their situation
and implement change for the greater good.
John Dewey born October 20th, 1859 was an American psychologist and philosopher. He was known
well for his avocation in democracy and his theories on progressive education which correlate and
transition into critical pedagogy. His theories focused on the argument that learning and education are

After the most talked about film of Malayalam film industry in last year Maheshinte Prathikaram (
Mahesh s Revenge ) director Dileesh Pothan and actor Fahadh Faasil comes together for
Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum (Roughly translated as The Exhibit and the Witness ). Even though it

there was much hype to live up to. By making the subject into a dark humor rather than the previous
film which was more of a feel good film, Pothan was able to satisfy and surprise his fans.
The film begins in a rural village near Alappuzha where chance encounters leads into a love affair

journey Sreeja s gold chain is snatched by a man behind her while she fell asleep. As the chain is

passengers and employees of the bus the thief is brought to the nearby Sheni police station, the man
denying the theft all the while. The only witness to the theft is Sreeja who was half asleep. So the
police decides to take the man into custody and wait for a day to find if the chain can be found in his

The Pros And Cons Of Meditation
Meditation is growing increasingly in popularity for reason raging from stress relief to the pursuit of
enlightenment. None the less there are still many misunderstandings about what meditation is and how
it is done. Here the eight most common misunderstandings are clarified.
Misunderstanding #1 Meditation is stopping thinking and having a blank mind.
This is probably the number one misunderstanding about meditation that meditation is to stop
thinking. Certainly, a benefit of long term meditation is a reduction in the the amount of thinking that
goes on, and that is great. The inane, repetitive and usually negative chatter of thoughts that jump one
to another in their minds is one of the first things people new to meditation are confronted ... Show

As a consequence, as it still is in many developing countries, people sat on the floor. As a result their
pelvis was naturally conditioned to sitting in this way without discomfort.
For those of us then who have grown up sitting in chairs, as chair might be the more appropriate place
to sit to meditate. There really is no required or necessary position to meditate in. The two primary
things to consider the ability to relax deeply, stay alert, and keeping the spine straight. The mind
already has plenty to obsess about without how you sit to meditate being one of them.
Misunderstanding #4. Meditation is just deep relaxation.
This misunderstanding about meditation is largely from it s increasing common prescription for stress
management. While meditation is certainly greatly beneficial in managing stress and increasing health,
to reduce it s function and purpose to this is way off the mark.
Deep relaxation is definitely an aspect of how to meditate, it is however one half of a fluid dance. The
other half is alert attention. If that sounds less than simple to do, you are getting some idea of why
meditation is a practice and isn t as simple as just sitting with your eyes closed.
Misunderstanding #5. The CD will do it all for

The Garden Of Forking Paths Theme
The infinite is a concept that is difficult for man to comprehend, yet in Jorge Luis Borges short story
The Garden of Forking Paths he does such a fantastic job of describing this idea of infinity and its
effect on mankind through his explanation of a labyrinth. This short story also can be used as
somewhat of a lens while reading Fun Home by Alison Bechdel. Borges story begins with frame
narrative but both stories are, for the most part, told from a first person point of view. This aspect of
point of view is very helpful in supporting the idea of infinite possibilities and infinite universes. By
writing their stories from a first person point of view Bechdel and Borges give their readers a glimpse
into the idea that each action, however little that action or decision may be, always has a reaction that
can alter the outcome of a persons life drastically. Each action, can have different outcomes that
essentially leads to infinite outcomes in other universes. A majority of Borges story is told from a first

In Borges The Garden of Forking Paths he shows that perhaps there are many sides to a story and a
person should not just choose one and trust it entirely. Alison Bechdel promotes a similar idea in Fun
Home, and shows that each action, no matter how small, can have a large effect on a person s life. It is
impossible to explain an exact outcome because there are numerous reasons why a certain result
occurred. While both of these stories explore completely different topics, they relate to each other in
underlying theme. Writing these two pieces in a first person point of view makes each character seem
somewhat untrustworthy, and this is why the idea of infinite possibilities is so relevant. It is such a
difficult concept to grasp and completely understand, however the infinite plays a much bigger role in
a person s life than they can even

What Are The Four Social Revolutions
The culture and society has been changing over time due to the invention and emergence of new ideas
and technology. Social change is an important aspect of life which every individual and society
undergoes. Up to date, there are four social revolutions that are believed to have occurred in history.
According o Henslin (2009), the social change experienced today is as a result of forces that started
thousands years ago which begun with domestication of animals and plants.
The first social revolution was characterized by horticultural and pastoral farming. Humans left
hunting and gathering and established settlements to do horticultural farming and keeping of livestock.

The use of ploughs to cultivate land made people to concentrate more on farming. During this period,
more food was produced compared to the horticultural farming. A relatively large piece of land could
be cultivated. This replaced the use of daggers in farming. The third social revolution was
characterized by the invention of steam engine which led to industrial revolution. Industrial revolution
was accompanied the production of surplus food. Machines replaced human labor in the industries.
More could be produced within short time. This means that people could also do many other things
such as learning instead of spending more time in doing one thing.
The fourth social revolution which is the era we are living today. It is characterized by more complex
technology. It is mainly telecommunication and hence sometimes called the information age. People
are focused on using the shortest time possible to convey information. The most recent invention is the
microchip. People have even been able to alter the human and other organisms genetic orientation.

Jacksonian Democracy Vs. Jeffersonian Democracy
Being very influential voices of their time, Andrew Jackson and Thomas Jefferson helped to create the
Jeffersonian Democracy and Jacksonian Democracy. Although there were many differences between
the two, there were also many similarities that will be discussed in this report. In this report, the
History of Jackson and Jeffersons past will be explained, as well as how they became President and
what influences led to the decisions. It will also explain some of the political decisions that led to
Jackson and Jefferson having their own democracies. Some of the topics that will be spoken of is

more topics to describe their similarities and differences in their techniques.
Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13th, 1743 in Shadwell, Virginia. During his lifetime he
accomplished many things even before becoming president. He was one of the draftsmen of The

Integration in Ole Miss Football Today, African American athletes play a strong and predominant role
in the football program at the university however, this was not always the case. Less than fifty years
ago, the Ole Miss football program was just as segregated as it had been in its early days. As a whole,
the Southeastern Conference of the NCAA was the last to instrgarate black athletes with the current
white ones (Paul 297, 284). Of the ten teams in the conference at the time, the University of

The Ole Miss football program faced a set back in its integration process as a result of its long
standing racial mentality and the repercussions of the integration of the university itself however, once

Ole Miss football program was so delayed in its integration process comes the necessary role the
football program played in keeping the university open during the integration of the university itself.
As the entire university went into turmoil, the football program stood strong. During the 1962 season,
which was played parallel with Meredith s appearance on campus, the team went undefeated and still

Analysis Of Michael Zancan s The Garden Of Giants
The oil on canvas Tears of Joy in the Garden of Giants by Michael Zancan was created in south west
France back in January of 2011. This surreal artist plunges into his fantasies creating mystical worlds
filled with vivid hues and outstanding details. A long process awaited this particular piece. During one
of his travels, the first draft got misplaced at a metro station for many months. Filled with hope,
Zancan continued his research of varying structural forms that 1900 s dome glasshouses used in order
to incorporate them into his masterpiece. Fortunately, he found architectural inspiration within the
walls of The Grand Palais in Paris. A digital painting was drafted using the old sketch he had initially
lost in the metro and on, December 2005 the first draft was ready for critique. This digital prototype
served as a guide for the 120 by 200 cm oil on canvas. On to the drawing board! Fascinated by the
vivid world, Zancan gave two additional coats of oil on the art to enhance the painting s contrast
before its final reveal. To this day, the original canvas remains by romantic s side in France. Zancan is
strategic, he wants to increase his popularity seeing that, his art s value will grow along with it. In
addition, high quality prints can be obtained and purchased through his web page.
Like a prima ballerina whom incorporates strength and beauty with every move she makes, Zancan
conveys his very essence within every brush stroke. Tears of joy, have you

Personality Analysis Of Stephanie Tanner In Full House And...
This character personality analysis analyzes the character of Stephanie Tanner from the prominent
television shows Full House and Fuller House with Erik Erikson s eight stages theory, which consists
of eight stages that a person goes through from infancy to adulthood that positively or negatively
effect personality development. This analysis specifically uses stages four, five, and six to apply to
Stephanie Tanner, as stages before or after are not able to be completed with present knowledge about
the character. The paper begins with an explanation of the eight stages theory, and then goes on to
apply the stages to Stephanie Tanner.

In this stage, children enter school, and their teacher becomes an important figure in their lives.
During this stage, the child s peer group, such as their classmates, becomes much more significant,
and the child begins to feel the need to win approval by displaying typical abilities that society
constructs. If the child is encouraged in their initiative attempts, they develop a stronger sense of
confidence in their ability to achieve set goals, but if the child is unable to develop the set skill, they
begin to feel inferior.
The fifth stage is the identity versus role confusion stage, in which adolescents search for a sense of
self and personal identity through exploration of personal values and goals. This stages represents the
transition from childhood to adulthood. Erikson claims that two separate identities are connected with
this stage: the sexual and the occupational. Failure to create a sense of identity during this stage can
lead to role confusion.
The sixth stage is the intimacy versus isolation stage, which occurs in young adulthood. During this
stage, people begin to venture into more serious and long term relationships. If the completion of this
stage is successful, a sense of commitment and safety are achieved, while if the completion of this
stage is unsuccessful, a sense of isolation and loneliness can

Technology Has Hindered The American Society

November 29, 2016
Technology has Hindered the American Society Technology has become an important part of the
American lifestyle. Everything from work to school involves technology in some way, shape, or form.
For example, computers have made gathering and transferring information much simpler and
accessible. This is a benefit to society because people are able to become better educated in a
convenient fashion. Convenience has always been one of the main goals that technology has tried to
accomplish. All major inventions, from automobiles to the internet, were created to make life more
convenient and easier for people. Whereas automobiles made it easier for people to travel long
distances in short amounts of time, the Internet has made gathering information, doing business, and
learning much more convenient. Although convenience is a major benefit that technology gives us,
there are also negative effects on society as a result of new inventions. Not all technology is
beneficial, many new technologies have had a negative impact on our youth. Therefore, technology
has hindered the American society because it has made people more self centered, encouraged laziness
in American youth, and made establishing relationships much more difficult.
Technology has hindered the American society by making people more self centered, selfish, and
boastful. One of the ways that people are more self centered is through social media. 7 Deadly

The Practices Of Earnings Management
From my point of view, I believe that the different practices of earnings management are misleading to
the stakeholders, and it aims at increasing or decreasing the reported earnings based on the executive
decisions and what would serve their position in the market.
This drives us to ask who the users of the company s financial statements are. Those are the parties
that rely on financial statements for decision making. And they are summarized in the following
groups: Employees, Customers, Supplies, Creditors, Shareholders, Financial analysts, Stock
underwriters and Regulators.
Why earnings management may occur
We have to views that justify why earnings management may occur. The first view states that the

Yet, if something is legal (since GAAP permits many accounting choices) and is profitable for the
company, then some people might assume it is ethical. While on the other hand, I believe that when
carrying out a business decision it should be taken into considerations all its ethical aspects in addition
to its profitability and legibility aspects.
Thus, in my opinion earnings management does not meet the ethical requirements of an executive job.
To ensure that the executives or managers performance and decisions are in line with professional
ethics, we must see whether their decision implementations would have negative effect on others. And
in this case it is clearly affecting financial statement users.
How earnings management might affect the firm itself?
Earnings management is not effective on the short term as it will not increase the firm s profits, they
may even worsen the enterprises operating difficulties if the executive decisions were not efficient or
if they were not accurate in their expectations and anticipation of the future earnings.
The earnings management opportunities might affect the firm future performance because the
executive would be willing to sacrifice future cash flows for current period income.
It may lead to damage the interests of shareholders and to lose their trust and confidence in

King Lear Poverty
The Tragedy of King Lear, is an epitaph of a fading old King. This is a play about old age; rather than
the rise and fall of youth. Death is the finale of every human; this is what makes life so fruitful. The
task to accomplish for the elderly is to have their youth bear the memory of their flesh; so that their
life is not forgotten. The responsibility of any father is to improve the quality of life for their children.
The purpose of this assignment is to argue that The Tragedy of King Lear demonstrates how poverty
and weakness can bring a person to empathy and appreciation of life. Wealth, emotions and
appearance can distort judgement. Arrogance can be easily gained through wealth and contaminate a
person s thoughts and perception. The play begins near the retirement and end of Lear s life. This
initiates a tone in the play where the knowledge of Lear s death is foreshadowed. Lear had decided to
divide his empire into sections for his trusted successors. The passing of his land into younger hands
was meant to plant the seeds of his legacy. Lear thought that he could see into ... Show more content

Mere Christianity Chapter 1 Summary
This month we were assigned to read the last book of Mere Christianity. Chapter one talks about God
s relation to us as followers of Christ. Chapter two discusses the Trinity, and how even though there
are three parts he is a personal God. Chapter three addressed God with time. God is not in the past or
future, but he is in the present. Chapter four sets up the chapter with an image of two books stacked on
each other. These books are a symbol of God as a father and as a son, and along with this he discusses
God s love for us. Chapter five addresses how God breathes life into us, because before we were
lifeless. Chapter six brings attention to what is discussed in chapter five, but it also talks about God in
relation to the human race as a whole. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I found this section of reading repetitive. In this portion of the reading C.S Lewis is wrapping up the
loose ends of his discussion on Christianity. Even though I struggled a bit to get through this reading I
still pulled out some interesting points from the reading. One chapter of the book that I enjoyed is
chapter eight. Chapter eight discusses if Christianity is hard or easy. I found this chapter to appeal to
me most because it is something I am very passionate about. During all three of my group s meetings I
have discussed how throughout the book C.S Lewis made it a point to recognize that Christianity is
not a walk in the park. C. S Lewis says in chapter 8, The Christian way is different: harder, and easier.
Christ says Give me All. I don t want so much of your time and so much of your money and so much
of your work: I want you (pg. 196). I think this quote sums up Christianity because it is not about if
your walk with the Lord is easy or hard because everyone s faith is different. At the end of the day the
Lord wants all of you and it is as simple as that. Along with this C.S Lewis tied in a lot of imagery
throughout the chapters of this book. He brings imagery with the books, the to soldiers, and by
referencing the story of Beauty and the Beast.BY using this imagery C.S Lewis was able to captivate
the reader s attention. All in all, this book had moments where it would drag, but then Lewis would

Middle School Autobiography
In middle school, I was not popular. I was kind of an outcast. I hated the popular kids my whole life,
yet always aspired to be one. I hung out with the girls who listened to k pop, watched anime, and
loved alternative music more than life. I had popular friends, but they only spoke to me, when their
other friends were not around. I was typically a person who takes humiliation to heart, took way too
many jokes seriously. Most of the time it was because they were black jokes, which I didn t think were
funny. People have told me No you re black. or Why are you here? Africa misses you! You look like

But 2015, was the year, the most embarrassing thing ever happened, and more than once. It was May,

On The Virgins, By Robert Herrick And Edna St. Vincent Millay
Carpe diem, should this idea be the sole focus of individuals in their even if it means that it will have
negative impacts on their future? Poets Robert Herrick and Edna St. Vincent Millay answer this
question through their own contrasting. In Herrick s To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time the
speaker argues that after an individual has past their youthful stage, their state of mind will grow old
and decrepit. As such should focus on seizing the day as much as possible. To emphasize his
viewpoint Herrick primarily uses nature as a symbol for life and the passage of time while using
simplistic and harmonious rhyming to frame his argument as basic human desire. On the other hand,

Herrick states that the pursuit of enjoyable experiences should be the primary concern of those with
youth as this is the only time in their lives that they will be able to attain such a high degree of joy.
The author depicts the speaker as an older person who is trying to convince individuals with youth to
forgo any risk and not worry about the future. To this effect the speaker uses nature and its seasons to
convince the reader that youth should be used to acquire as many joyful experiences as possible. To do
this, the speaker implores to the youths that Old time is still a flying (Herrick 2) and that Tomorrow
will be dying (Herrick 4). Herrick also uses his rhyme scheme to emphasize the natural and simplicity
of his argument. The author instills a sense of interconnectivity between the genders by using both
Masculine and Feminine rhymes sequentially and thus Herrick moves in directions that challenge
accepted gender configurations. (Landrum 205). The simplicity of the rhyme scheme, ABAB, instills
the reader with a sense of easiness and flow to the author s argument further emphasizing that carpe
diem should be the utmost importance. Furthermore, by internally rhyming That age is the best which
is the first (Herrick 9) the consonance draws the reader to the line and emphasizes the message that
being the first to seize the day is the best. All in all, Herrick used both nature symbolism and simplistic
rhyme scheme

Biodegradable plastics, produced from food based products rather than petroleum, although very
promising, still represent a very small percentage of the waste problem. Those should be broken down
only in specialized composting facilities through a controlled process that still produces considerable
amounts of methane (Dell, 2010). Clearly, the issue needs a completely different approach. Edible
alternatives to plastic are the next logical step to solving the contamination problem.
Designers of edible packaging borrowed the concept from nature. Just like apple or grape skins, those

and eaten together with the contents. Some examples of this new zero waste food industry ideas have

refugees from the Nazis who had invaded his homeland, Father Kolbe was eventually arrested and
placed in the concentration camp Auschwitz. During a line up of prisoners during which ten would be
selected for execution, a husband and father fell on his knees to beg for mercy for the sake of his
family. Father Kolbe stepped forward and offered himself in the man s place, accepting martyrdom out
of love for his neighbor. Even more than half a century after his death, Father Kolbe is remembered as
a hero whose self sacrificing act stands out among the many made during those dark days of

Indiana Jones Summary
What surprised me most about this documentary was that as a child I had just assumed that the
sporadic and fantastical adventures of Indiana Jones were fiction in their entirety. I never would have
been able to guess that many parts of his adventures mirrored the lives of real life archeologists. What
was most interesting about learning about the way Indiana Jones and modern day archeologists share
some of the same adventures was the way they spoke about it so practically. The endless insects, the
illnesses, the natives and rivalries, it was all like hearing this grand adventure become real life. It was
fascinating having this idea of archeology being a somewhat mild and monotonous career flipped
around to realize that archeology is really

Sacrifice In Julia Alvarez s In The Time Of The Butterflies
A Call to Sacrifice
Julia Alvarez s In the Time of the Butterflies, fictionalizes the real life story of the four Mirabal sisters:
Patria, Maria Teresa, Minerva, and Dedé. Dominican dictator, Trujillo, has Patria, Minerva, and Maria
Teresa killed for their participation in the revolution. Though not all of the sisters gave their life, each
of them sacrificed a great deal. Throughout the novel, all four sisters heard the call to motherhood.
This call to motherhood is not the only call heard by the Mirabal sisters, however, along with this call
to motherhood, each sister is also called to sacrifice. For each sister, this call to sacrifice is answered
in a different way.
Early in her life, Dedé s father predicts that she will be a survivor: She ll bury us all, her father adds,
laughing, in silk and pearls (Alvarez, 8). In jest, Dedé s father foreshadows the ultimate result of Dedé
s firm and practical nature. Dedé is not a pushover, she can stand her ground. This practical nature is
what keeps her from joining the revolution, and what ultimately saves her life. That is not to say that it
is easy for Dedé to ignore the call of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Coco Energy Drink
Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
Rationale of the Study
Across the globe today, more and more people are becoming drawn to living healthy lifestyles, and
practicing healthy eating habits. With the proliferation of diseases previously unheard of and the
progression of already identified ones into more life threatening strains, the adage prevention is better
than cure has become a mantra among individuals wishing to preserve the well being of their bodies.
The natural products health industry is a very lucrative one. In 2008, it expanded by 8% to $270B
despite the economic downturn that rocked many industries. The industry is still on the rise
throughout the world. As seen in the table below, it is expected to experience ... Show more content on

significant way in the long run.

The tropical fruit has emerged as a hot trend, with its nutritional components being promoted for
health or fitness reasons. Coconut water is advertised as a refreshing, electrolyte rich beverage suitable
for replacing sports drinks. Not to be confused with the far richer coconut milk, coconut water is a
clear liquid extracted from very young green coconuts. It s billed as nature s sports drink because like
Gatorade and other energy drinks, it contains water for rehydration, carbohydrates in the form of sugar
for energy, and electrolytes to replace what s lost through sweat.
In most cases, the best way to restore your body s fluids and electrolytes after exercise is simply with
water and food, particularly fruit. In cases of severe exertion or illness, however, a quick electrolyte
boost may be necessary. For those reluctant to consume sports drinks with all their added colors,
flavors, sweeteners and preservatives, nature has provided the perfect rehydrating drink and that is the
coconut water.
Coconut water is found inside the cavity of a young, unripe coconut. The balance of electrolytes in
coconut water is nearly the same as that in the human blood.

The incident in assessment is the March 29th 2013 Mayflower Oil spill that occurred in Mayflower,
Arkanas, United States of America. The pipeline, named the Pegasus line, belonged to operator,
ExxonMobil, transporting Canadian Wabasca heavy crude from Athabasca Oil sands when the
pipeline failed (McGowan 2013). The Pegasus line a 20 inch line with a total length of 850 mines and
carried approximately 95,000 barrels per day from Patoka, IL to Nederland, TX (ADEQ, 2013). The
pipeline was designed with a distance of 18 miles between isolation valves and was buried
approximately 24 inches where it ruptured (ADEQ, 2013). Figure 1: Oil Spill down residential street
Figure 2: Oil Spill into cove of Conway It was estimated by Exxon that 5,000 barrels (210,000
gallons) of Wabasca heavy crude was spilled from the breach (Koon and Peacock 2013). Due to
elevated Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) readings and due to the amount of oil present on the
ground and in the street, 22 homes were evacuated. The heavy crude oil released made its way down a
residential road, into a bar ditch, into an unnamed creek, and then into a stream to a cove of Lake
Conway (Schwirtz 2012). Figure 1 and 2 are pictures of some of the affected areas and spillage into
residential property. Figure 3: Aerial View of Lake Conway Local residents of Mayflower were

The goal of this was to successfully accomplish the synthesis of para Chlorophenoxyacetic acid. In
this experiment, para Chlorophenoxyacetic acid was synthesized from 4 chlorophenolate and
chloroacetic acid using an SN2 reaction. The product obtained was determined to be the para isomer
of Chlorophenoxyacetic acid. This was confirmed by the melting point of 157.3 157.9 â—¦C. The percent
yield determined at the end of the experiment was 37.83 %. The TLC analysis showed that P
Chlorophenol was less polar than P Chlorophenoxyacetic Acid because it had an Rf value of 0.38 in
comparison to the value of 0.33 on a 50:50 hexane and ethyl acetate solvent mixture. In the NMR
comparison, it was shown that both the starting material of chloroacetic acid and product contained a
peak of integration two around 4 ppm representing the acidic proton. In the FT IR comparison, it was
determined that the Chloroacetic acid and the para Chlorophenoxyacetic acid both had an OH bond at
3416 cm 1 and 3429.72 cm 1 respectively. The Chloroacetic acid and para Chlorophenoxyacetic acid
also both had a carbon oxygen double bond at 1648 cm 1 and 1654.81 cm 1 respectively. The para
Chlorophenoxyacetic acid also contained a peak at 1236.18 cm 1 which represents the C O C bond.

Remember The Alamo Research Paper
The Alamo
Remember the Alamo, is a well known saying in America, although few people really understand what
happened at The Battle of the Alamo. The Battle of the Alamo was fought between the Texans and
Mexicans. The Texans were fighting for their independence from Mexico. Although the Mexican
forces were victorious, this battle was a key event in the westward expansion of America.
The Alamo has become an American landmark due to the famous Battle of the Alamo in 1836, but the
Alamo itself started off vastly different. The building is located in a section of downtown San Antonio,
Texas. The word Alamo actually stands for cottonwood and thus was named due to the cottonwood
trees that surrounded the site. The Alamo was originally established as mission in 1718 and erected in
1724. (Selcraig)
Before understanding the importance of the Battle of the Alamo, a brief history of the region is needed
and the understanding of the factors that lead to the battle itself. Shortly after Mexico gained its
independence from Spain in 1821, the young republic was desperate to populate its northern state of
Texas. There was an attempt to gain control of the vast territory, but there was a problem. The problem
was that the area was already inhabited by Apache and Comanche tribes who were not wanting any
settlers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In mid February the forces of San Antonio had been fully taken by the Texan force. Sam Houston had
urged the Texan force to abandon San Antonio due to the lack of troops needed to properly hold the
area, but instead the Alamo s defenders dug in and prepared to defend the fort. The defenders never
numbered more than 200, with reinforcements, and included Davy Crockett, the famous frontiersman
and former congressman from Tennessee. (The

  • 2. Arguments For And Against The Early Anthropogenic Hypothesis 11,700 years ago the geological epoch the Holocene was thought to of began following the Pleistocene epoch, together these time periods make up the Quaternary period. The Holocene has been described as being relatively warm and with a fairly stable climate. Not only this, but it is thought to coincide with the start of agriculture as human populations rose throughout the Holocene technology became more sophisticated aiding the rise of agriculture (Holden, 2012). The early anthropogenic hypothesis was published in 2003 by Professor W.F. Ruddiman, this was a three part hypothesis in which Ruddiman proposed humans reversed natural decreases in CO2 values within the atmosphere by deforestation. That they reversed natural methane decreases after 5,000 years by irrigating rice, they also caused a warming sufficient to prevent a new glaciation within the last several thousand years and during the Holocene (Ruddiman 2005). This hypothesis has attracted a lot of attention with many people both supporting it and criticising it. Throughout this essay I will be exploring the many arguments for and against the early anthropogenic hypothesis and stating whether or not human kind could have prevented the start of an ice age during the Holocene. One of the parts of Ruddimans three part early anthropogenic hypothesis focusses on the anomalous rise in methane after 5,000 years. By looking at the past three interglaciations methane levels should have fallen from ~700 ppb to a level such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A minor character in a story is not the leader of the story, they are a supporting character to the protagonist and they give a contrast to the protagonist in a story. In the story A P by John Updike, the story begins by illustrating Sammy as a young cashier who is cynical and loathsome of his current situation. He is infatuated by a pretty young girl, the minor character, who is referred to as Queenie. Queenie is very important in this story because of the conflicts she causes. • 6. Social, Political, And Economical Innovation Throughout the past 20 years, the focus on the World Wide Web has been a compelling area of social, political, and economical innovation. At one time, the internet was a tool that promoted collaboration in the realm of research as it was used as a means of sharing scholarly documents between universities. However, since that time, the internet has evolved into being a way of life. Many people use the terms Internet and World Wide Web, or just the Web, interchangeably, but the two terms are not synonymous. The World Wide Web is the primary application that billions of people use on the Internet, and it has changed their lives immeasurably (author unknown, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet). Before there can be an at length discussion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This concept will be clarified later in the paper. Hence, the critical thing to focus on is that, when on the web, hyperlinks can be utilized to navigate through and interact with web based content and resources. In order to access the web, one must utilize a tool called a web browser. World Wide Web browser software, such as Microsoft s Internet Explorer and Google Chrome, lets users navigate from one web page to another via hyperlinks embedded in the documents. These documents may also contain any combination of computer data, including graphics, sounds, text, video, multimedia and interactive content that runs while the user is interacting with the page. Client side software can include animations, games, office applications and scientific demonstrations. Through keyword driven Internet research using search engines like Yahoo! and Google, users worldwide have easy, instant access to a vast and diverse amount of online information. Compared to printed media, books, encyclopedias and traditional libraries, the World Wide Web has enabled the decentralization of information on a large scale (author unknown, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A bean is the beginning of all chocolate and chocolate based products found today. Cocoa, also referred to as cacao after the tree, comes from the cacao plant (Elaine) that is usually grown in plantations near the equator and low latitude areas (Castelvecchi)(History). They are planted in the shade provided by much larger trees, such as bananas and mangoes; a mature cocoa is estimated to produce around five pounds of chocolate a year (History). Cacao farmers use agroforestry, which intertwines the practices of agriculture with the natural ways of the forest. They also use sustainable methods where they plant tall, favorable crops that are native to the area and give cover to the cacao tree for its needed shade; these crops not only give shade to the trees but also provide other natural resources, such as fruit, rubber, wood, etc. The cacao trees grow well in the shade farms just like they do in a rain forest, while also providing a place for wildlife to roam freely like they do in their natural habitat, and serving as a buffer between forests and developed regions. Some forty to fifty million people rely on cocoa as their means of living. Farmers earn more income from crops than they did before, due in part to the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF). Since farmers incomes are increasing, there is more improvement in communities as well as promoting better nutrition and schools for children (The Story). The cacao bean may only be just a bean ... • 10. Mesopotamian Scientific Developments And Aspects Sterling 9/24/14 Miss Laura History Mesopotamian Scientific Developments and Aspects The Mesopotamians pioneered several modern day scientific principles and tools and contributed greatly to the development of future civilizations. (3) The Mesopotamians lived in what is in and near modern day Saudi Arabia between the rivers Tigris and Euphrates. This is what lead to their name, as Mesopotamian means between two rivers in greek. Mesopotamia was a land of many different city states and cultures unified for the advancement of all in Mesopotamia. These cultural differences run very deep within the different city states of Mesopotamia, and these differences contributed heavily to the Mesopotamians scientific advances and ironically, lead to their actual unification as a single culture and civilization.(3) (2) (5) One of the most important developments that lead into this was the development of story telling and writing in ancient Mesopotamia. Writing in ancient Mesopotamia came about around 4000 B.C. and began to develop into a major cultural aspect in Mesopotamia via the development of many stories and records. This writing was imprinted on clay tablets and other clay based constructs throughout the existence of the civilization. Thousands of tablets and other Mesopotamian writings were made through chiseling or rolling shapes and hieroglyphs onto the clay tablets. • 11. Gilead And Powerlessness Most people feel powerless. They don t think they can affect larger events because they don t have money or political power. This makes many people not even try, instead acting selfishly, looking after themselves above the greater good. Offred is an exemplar of this phenomenon. She represents an average person, who feels powerless, and largely acts in self interest. This makes her, and everybody who thinks like her, complicit in Gilead s rise. Their feeling of powerlessness does not justify their selfishness. Throughout the book Offered thinks she is powerless. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a very human response. She is values her comfort over everybody else s, and instinct that is very strong in all of us. It is also an incredibly selfish instinct, and in this case, Offred falling victim to it makes Gilead stronger. Emotions continue to be a strong force in driving Offred s selfishness, specifically when Serena Joy gives her a photo of her daughter in return for seeing Nick. I can t let go of this hope she says, referring to her hope that her daughter is somehow ok after everything that happened (206). Of course she values this hope, any parent would. However, from a rational perspective, it is a very selfish decision. That photo gives her hope, a feeling that makes her feel good. It doesn t help her daugter of anybody else. The only way to do that would be to weaken Gilead, which she could have done if she had instead demanded some information from Serena Joy that Mayday could use. Most people would make the same choice as her, me included. Those emotions are incredibly hard to resist. However, they still make us act selfishly, and in the process, make the world a worse place. In many ways, Offred and everyone like her are why Gilead exists. They didn t resist Gilead s rise, didn t band together, and looked out for themselves and their loved ones above the great good. • 12. Critical Pedagogy And The Reggio Emilia Critical pedagogy and The Reggio Emilia approach on play based learning should be merged into early childhood education as obtaining the skills to critically analyze and problem solve has the potential to change society and thus the potential to change the world. It is important individuals become aware of what critical pedagogy is. Critical pedagogy stems from the idea that there is an unequal social structure in our society which is based upon class, race and gender. It has been formulated and influenced by many psychologists and philosophers including John Dewey and Paulo Freire. Critical pedagogy is an attempt at freedom from oppression through democratic critical thinking. In critical pedagogy the knowledge learned within the classroom should correlate with and not be separated from any social structure, culture, politics, economics or any ideology taking place with society. The idea is, that in order to orchestrate change, individuals must become aware of the social, cultural, ideological, and or economic influence exerted upon society. Once the individual becomes aware of the hegemony taking place they can then analyze their situation and implement change for the greater good. None the less there are still many misunderstandings about what meditation is and how it is done. Here the eight most common misunderstandings are clarified. Misunderstanding #1 Meditation is stopping thinking and having a blank mind. This is probably the number one misunderstanding about meditation that meditation is to stop thinking. Certainly, a benefit of long term meditation is a reduction in the the amount of thinking that goes on, and that is great. The inane, repetitive and usually negative chatter of thoughts that jump one to another in their minds is one of the first things people new to meditation are confronted ... The two primary things to consider the ability to relax deeply, stay alert, and keeping the spine straight. The mind already has plenty to obsess about without how you sit to meditate being one of them. Misunderstanding #4. Meditation is just deep relaxation. This misunderstanding about meditation is largely from it s increasing common prescription for stress management. While meditation is certainly greatly beneficial in managing stress and increasing health, to reduce it s function and purpose to this is way off the mark. Deep relaxation is definitely an aspect of how to meditate, it is however one half of a fluid dance. The other half is alert attention. • 17. The Garden Of Forking Paths Theme The infinite is a concept that is difficult for man to comprehend, yet in Jorge Luis Borges short story The Garden of Forking Paths he does such a fantastic job of describing this idea of infinity and its effect on mankind through his explanation of a labyrinth. This short story also can be used as somewhat of a lens while reading Fun Home by Alison Bechdel. Borges story begins with frame narrative but both stories are, for the most part, told from a first person point of view. This aspect of point of view is very helpful in supporting the idea of infinite possibilities and infinite universes. By writing their stories from a first person point of view Bechdel and Borges give their readers a glimpse into the idea that each action, however little that action or decision may be, always has a reaction that can alter the outcome of a persons life drastically. Alison Bechdel promotes a similar idea in Fun Home, and shows that each action, no matter how small, can have a large effect on a person s life. It is impossible to explain an exact outcome because there are numerous reasons why a certain result occurred. While both of these stories explore completely different topics, they relate to each other in underlying theme. Writing these two pieces in a first person point of view makes each character seem somewhat untrustworthy, and this is why the idea of infinite possibilities is so relevant. It is such a difficult concept to grasp and completely understand, however the infinite plays a much bigger role in a person s life than they can even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Less than fifty years ago, the Ole Miss football program was just as segregated as it had been in its early days. As a whole, the Southeastern Conference of the NCAA was the last to instrgarate black athletes with the current white ones (Paul 297, 284). In his essay explaining the parallel between the integration of Ole Miss and the 62 team, Wright Thompson states, The 1962 Ole Miss football team fascinated me. That year, perhaps because of the school s near self destruction over integration, or perhaps in spite of it, the team managed the most remarkable season seen in Oxford before or since (1). This surreal artist plunges into his fantasies creating mystical worlds filled with vivid hues and outstanding details. A long process awaited this particular piece. During one of his travels, the first draft got misplaced at a metro station for many months. Filled with hope, Zancan continued his research of varying structural forms that 1900 s dome glasshouses used in order to incorporate them into his masterpiece. Fortunately, he found architectural inspiration within the walls of The Grand Palais in Paris. A digital painting was drafted using the old sketch he had initially lost in the metro and on, December 2005 the first draft was ready for critique. This digital prototype served as a guide for the 120 by 200 cm oil on canvas. On to the drawing board! Everything from work to school involves technology in some way, shape, or form. For example, computers have made gathering and transferring information much simpler and accessible. This is a benefit to society because people are able to become better educated in a convenient fashion. Convenience has always been one of the main goals that technology has tried to accomplish. All major inventions, from automobiles to the internet, were created to make life more convenient and easier for people. Whereas automobiles made it easier for people to travel long distances in short amounts of time, the Internet has made gathering information, doing business, and learning much more convenient. Although convenience is a major benefit that technology gives us, there are also negative effects on society as a result of new inventions. Not all technology is beneficial, many new technologies have had a negative impact on our youth. Therefore, technology has hindered the American society because it has made people more self centered, encouraged laziness in American youth, and made establishing relationships much more difficult. Death is the finale of every human; this is what makes life so fruitful. The task to accomplish for the elderly is to have their youth bear the memory of their flesh; so that their life is not forgotten. The responsibility of any father is to improve the quality of life for their children. The play begins near the retirement and end of Lear s life. This initiates a tone in the play where the knowledge of Lear s death is foreshadowed. At the end of the day the Lord wants all of you and it is as simple as that. Along with this C.S Lewis tied in a lot of imagery throughout the chapters of this book. • 43. Indiana Jones Summary What surprised me most about this documentary was that as a child I had just assumed that the sporadic and fantastical adventures of Indiana Jones were fiction in their entirety. I never would have been able to guess that many parts of his adventures mirrored the lives of real life archeologists. What was most interesting about learning about the way Indiana Jones and modern day archeologists share some of the same adventures was the way they spoke about it so practically. The endless insects, the illnesses, the natives and rivalries, it was all like hearing this grand adventure become real life. It was fascinating having this idea of archeology being a somewhat mild and monotonous career flipped around to realize that archeology is really ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
