International Trade And Domestic Monetary Policy Essay
1. INTRODUCTION
If you want to know the value of money, go and try to borrow some. This quote by Benjamin Franklin
seems to have laid a foundation for several financial concepts and practices. International trade and
domestic monetary policy of a country are closely connected to each other. A financial incentive can
increase export opportunities for trading partners whereas foreign exchange controls for balance of
payments can inhibit exports. Intervention of the Apex bank in foreign exchange markets may fuel
exports and impede imports or vice versa, subject to the direction of manipulation.
Several rules prohibit nations from deceitfully enhancing exports and reducing imports through
exchange rate manipulation. Traditional hesitancy to pursue currency manipulations exists among
policymakers even today. Some policymakers commiserate with purposes of currency manipulation,
especially as protection against economic shockwaves and for providing income for upcoming
generations when nonrenewable resources are exhausted. Although the unemployment figures have
perceivably plunged in recent times, the economic downturn of 2008 has left a trail of economic and
social displacement. The United States has already lost millions of jobs due to currency interventions
by other countries. Will the ascension of a handful of greedy and fraudulent Wall Street traders
coupled with China s hunger to be the world s most powerful economy, descend the global economy
into a bottomless pit in

Anselms Ontological Argument For The Existence Of God Summary
In Anselm s ontological argument of the existence of God, Anselm s goal is to prove the existence of
God by purely logical truths and reasoning (that is, his argument only contains A Priori knowledge). A
summary of Anselm s argument is that, because God exists in understanding, and that God is the
supreme being, and that real things are greater than things only existing in understanding, then God
must exist in understanding. A formal, numbered argument follows: The next second and third
premises are not directly stated, but Anselm uses an argument which deserves special attention to
assert the premise is sound. Anselm claims, that for someone to have the capacity to argue against this
argument, then person must understand the definition

Expansion Of The College Football
Expand the College Football Playoff
Many men go to work every single day, making big money for other people, and are the best at what
they do in the country, yet they still do not get a chance to get a raise or promotion. The College
Football Playoffs (CFP) decides the best college football team in the nation and declares an outright
National Champion. The #4 Ohio State Buckeyes were crowned National Champions of the first ever
College Football Playoffs and almost did not even get into the playoff. Even though there is a better
system in place than the Bowl Championship Series, the CFP has imperfections. The playoff should be
expanded to 8 teams to give a better idea of who the best team in the nation is that year, because often

Ashby claims in a recent article, Ohio State got beat by Virginia Tech in the first game of the 2014
season and would have had absolutely no chance of winning a National Championship if the
computers were still in control (Ashby). However in the 2015 College Football Playoff, the Buckeyes
claimed the final #4 spot in the College Football Playoff and ended up winning the whole playoff.
However, with a four team playoff, the Ohio State Buckeyes did not even get the chance to defend
their throne in the 2016 CFP because they were ranked #7. Expanding the playoff would only make
the job easier for the selection committee and would make a more fair and exciting College Football
Playoff. Give a chance to teams that deserve an opportunity to win the CFP.
The NCAA has five major football conferences, the Big XII, Big 10, Pac 10, the ACC, and the SEC
(College Football Conferences). The College Football Playoff, including only four teams, will always
leave a conference champion out of the playoff picture. In the very first CFP in 2014, the Texas
Christian University Horned Frogs (TCU) were ranked #3 going into the final playoff selection. The
Horned Frogs plummeted to #6 after winning their final game and crushed all hope of playing for a
national championship. The Baylor Bears were sitting at a #6 spot going into the final

Terrorism Vs Rebellion
The recitation challenged me to think about things I had never thought of before. What is the
difference between terrorism and rebellion? Can one person be a terrorist without the support of a
group? Is terrorism defined by motive or result?
As my group explored these questions and many more my beliefs were challenged. The group almost
never agreed unanimously. I found myself frequently on the side of the minority. This was highlighted
early on in the discussion when I disagreed with most of my group about scenario 1.
I initially felt the actions of the unnamed man later labeled as Samuel Adams were the actions of a
terrorist. Samuel Adams was not trying to overthrow his government, so he was not a rebel. Adams
wanted to make a point to his government. He did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The exercise helped me lay aside some of my predispositions. When our group came to scenario 5 I
challenged a few of my fellow group members thoughts as well.
When I read scenario 5, it sounded more like civil war than terrorism. When we took an initial vote,
however, all but two of us labeled Nelson Mandela s actions as terrorism. As we talked, I spoke about
civil war, the right of a people to overthrow oppressive government, and the reasons for established
political parties to take up arms against the majority party. At the end of the discussion, enough of the
votes had swung our way for the group to label scenario 5, Not Terrorism.
While the recitation session was thought provoking, for me it brought up more questions than it
answered. I still am not sure whether scenarios 8 and 9 would be considered hate crime, terrorism, or
both. I do not know if you can consider a lone wolf a terrorist if they commit suicide on their only
attack. I wonder if a person can be called a terrorist if they do not intend to spread terror. All these are
ideas I look forward to diving into during the next eight

Research Paper On Kitty Genovese

ENG 101. 0795
Professor Kevin Lerner

Research paper
Selfish City s Life Kitty Genovese was an ordinary woman. One day, she was going home in the early
morning. When she arrived in her neighborhood at about 3:15 a.m. and parked her car about 100 feet
from her apartment s door, she was attacked by someone. She screamed out. Even though her screams
were heard by several neighbors, nobody helped her. She was seriously injured, but the witnesses did
not believe she was in need of help. There were several people that heard her screams but nobody
went out to help her. Kitty Genovese s murder is a dilemma. If human beings are basically benevolent,

He realized the car was parked where people could see it, so he moved it some distance away
(Gansberg, New York Times).
However, the psychiatrist judged Mosley to be normal. On June 11, 1964, Winston Mosley was found
guilty of murder. Though initially given the death sentence, the sentence was reduced to life
imprisonment after the trial went to appeal with New York s Court of Appeals. The murderer intended
to kill her. But there were thirty eight witnesses and nobody attempted to help her. It is unimaginable.
There was a psychological issue that is called bystanders. Most people when hearing about this sort of
thing react with horror not so much in the direction of the crime, but rather at the actions of the
bystanders. The bystander effect is a psychological phenomenon in which someone is less likely to
intervene in an emergency situation when others are present than when a person is alone. It is one of
those questions that can be asked over and over again. Why did no one call for help? It would not be
hard to pick up the phone; what kind of people could ignore such a thing? It is very miserable.
However, the fact is that the reactions of the bystanders are horrible. This lack of action is one of the
reasons why Kitty Genovese is taught in intro to psychology courses. She makes an excellent, though
graphic, introduction to the concept of diffusion of responsibility: a peculiar phenomenon of inaction
within a group of people. A person is much more

The Destruction Of Family In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Feuds between families were bloody and enduring throughout history. They start with two individuals
and escalate to a community that loathes each other. Those fights lasted for years to even many
generations. In William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, the star crossed lovers engaged in this insane
drama. Romeo and Juliet s families continued this constant war with each other. In the streets of
Verona, there was nothing to see but blood being shed by the Capulets and the Montagues. Sadly
enough, Romeo and Juliet were right in the middle of it. Having met each other, they devised plans
with the help of some close people to spend time with each other without telling their families.
Through countless trial and errors of being together, Romeo and Juliet ended up dead. The families

Hierarchy In The Lion King
This image from the Lion King movie is an iconic image that includes all of the characters shown in
the movie. The image displays all the characters in such a way that allows the viewer to see them all
together in one place in which the background represents the setting of the movie. However, this
image can be analyzed, and this results in many of the details showing the idea of hierarchy. The
analyzation and representation of this idea takes a unique approach due to this movie being an
animated movie rather than a normal movie. Despite this unique take on the idea of hierarchy, the idea
is still easy to understand because of extra steps taken to ensure it is portrayed clearly. My image of
the Lion King shows the viewer that animals and hierarchy can be artificially represented.

According to Michela Balconi and Silvia Pagani Recent research found that . . . status hierarchy
requires that individuals express and recognize social status signals, such as visual cues or vocal calls,
which communicate rank and convey expectations about appropriate social behavior given a
hierarchical social context (Balconi Pagani). Hierarchy may be an idea that can be noticed by external
factors such as a person s looks, but this is not always the case. This is especially true in this Lion
King image, since the characters do not wear clothes being that they are wild animals. As a result, this
other way to show hierarchy is used. If a someone is higher up in the hierarchy, the result is usually
that they are happier than other who are not as high up as they are. This causes the person that is
higher up to feel happy, while the person who is not as high up does not feel happy, in fact, they may
feel angry or like they want to get revenge, as shown by one of the hyenas in the

The Three Major Schools Of Philosophy Essay
1. Describe in your own words the three major schools of philosophy in Hinduism.
The three major schools of philosophy in Hinduism are Vedanta, Sankhya, and Yoga. In this way, the
path of knowledge is experienced. Jnana Marga is knowledge of a very special sort, amounting to
extraordinary insight that is far beyond merely knowing about the subject matter (Brodd 54). This
practice of Vedanta is representative of the monism of Hinduism. This means that (a)ll reality is
essentially one... (Brodd 55). This can be a difficult idea to understand because Vedanta impresses the
notion that the persistent sense of individuality prevents us from actually experiencing the truth
(Brodd 55). The example of a drop of water is used to explain this concept best. It can be thought that
a drop of water is separate from the vast ocean but once this small drop of water is contained in the
ocean, there is no way to distinguish it from the other drops of water. Likewise, we have an illusion of
separate identity but are one. The ultimate goal is to experience this truth and then the path of
knowledge will have been fully met; this is known as Brahman. That which is distracting and serves
as the illusion is called Maya.
Next, Sankhya differs from Vedanta because it asserts that reality is composed of two distinct
categories: matter, and an infinite number of eternal selves (Brodd 56). Somehow, the multitudes of
selves become tangled with matter and when this occurs they are

Base Jumping Is Becoming Known As One Of The Most Extreme...
Base jumping is becoming known as one of the most extreme sports the world knows. To successfully
BASE jump one must bound from an exit point , and free fall from very high places. People say it s
too dangerous, and should be outlawed completely. On the other hand, people like the late Dean Potter
used to successfully jump with his dog in a backpack as he would leap off cliffs falling as much as
3000 feet towards the ground. BASE jumping is amazing, and isn t for everyone, but it should at the
least remain someone s choice to do it or not in my opinion.
Its known as BASE jumping, and BASE is an acronym that stands for buildings, antennae, spans, and
earth such as cliffs and mountains (Tara L. Allman). These are all places BASE jumpers hurdle from.
They go to these places to perform their sport, leaping off into the void and free falling. Before
smashing into the ground, they deploy their parachute. There is a high likelihood you will die if you
make any mistakes. So you are effectively saving your own life every time you do it. Simple right?
Not by a long shot. This sport is a huge undertaking. You start off a student, and only after years
learning under a mentor, do you get to wear the invisible badge of BASE Jumper. BASE jumping is
widely viewed by the public as dangerous and too risky. In many countries and states of the US,
BASE jumping is illegal. In addition, not only is the act of jumping illegal, but BASE jumpers are
often trespassing on someone s property to

Benefitfocus Case
Purpose
The brief that follows provides an overview of Benefitfocus, Inc. and highlights the business
performance, competitive landscape, prospects, and challenges facing the company.
Conclusions
At first glance a prospective investor might be turned off by the fact that Benefitfocus net income
seems to be headed in the entirely wrong direction. Losses have ballooned from 30M in 2013 to 62M
in 2015. However, it is important to note that the company s net income as a percentage of its revenue
is headed in the right direction. The profit margin has improved from 74% in 2013 to 19.31% through
three quarters of 2016. The fact that revenue growth has far outstripped cost growth over the past few
years indicates that positive operating leverage is inherit in Benefitfocus business model. If these
trends continue Benefitfocus should reach breakeven sooner rather than later.
Benefitfocus jumped closer to profitability in the first months of 2017, posting better than expected
results that boosted its stock Friday (Moore, 2017).

The Importance Of Urbanization
3) Urbanization is extremely rapid across the world. So, it is very important for every developing as
well as the developed countries to make a Resilient city. Resilient cities are the one that has developed
capacities to help absorb future shocks and stresses to its social, economic, and technical systems and
infrastructures to still be able to maintain essentially the same functions, structures, systems, and
identity. As the definition clearly states about how to make the city to be more stable due to extreme
usage of resources that leads to the degradation of resources and the environment. Throughout the
world due to the increase in the urbanization that is shift of people from the rural places to the urban
region in search of employment. This is due rapid growth of industries where they are need of people
for working. Due to this there is a rapid utilization of resources and also there is a economic downturn
that has led to the poverty.
There are seven key elements that form a resilient city they are A) Renewable Energy city which
involves the usage of renewable power source like water, solar, wind and many other renewable
resources. B) Carbon Neutral City in this complete zero emission is maintained that can also be said as
zero emission city. C) Distributed City this involves the distributed population in a place to reduce the
population density and make that Green Infrastructure . D) Photosynthetic City will have a greener
place by growing the food locally andto

The Earth s Planetary Group
This semester in physical science I have realized numerous things, yet what I discovered to be the
most fascinating was the point at which we discussed the earth s planetary group. I discovered that the
earth s planetary group has numerous things in it, however as large as the earth s planetary group is it
just has one stay which is called Sol which is otherwise called the sun. The earth s planetary group is
4.568billion years of age, and it comprises of eight planets. The IAU is right now perceiving five
midget planets, however of the five there are perhaps a few hundred more to be named. At this point
there are 431 common satellites, and of those 173 of them are planetary and 258 of them are named
minor. There are 659,212 referred to lunar planets and 3296 comets as of September 25, 2014. Our
earth s planetary group just has nineteen round satellites in it starting now. In the event that I were to
rundown the planets by separation from the sun, they would be: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter,
Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. The closest planetary framework is Alpha Centauri which is 4.37 light
years away. As specified before the midget planets and they are: Cereces, Pluto, Humea, Makemake,
and Eris. The orbital rate of our earth s planetary group is as of now recorded as being 220km/s, and
the orbital period is 220 250 MY. Our seeing about the universe and our spot in it has changed about
whether. New data can make us reevaluate what we know and reconsider how we

The aim of this essay is to explore a list of ways how the government helps or hinders the
development of a successful business environment. In order to achieve the clarification of this subject,
PEST(LE) analysis is used.
There is no doubt to say that every nation state needs some form of government to regulate its
business affairs. As a function of any organised society, the governments play a key role in the modern
business environment. But the form of government differs from nation to nation. Whatever the form or
structure, all governments have activities and objectives in common, namely political, economic,

It is also more likely for firms to operate against the public interest. Therefore, governments often ban
firms from operating as a monopoly by implementing a competition policy. An example of such
implementation can be seen in Britain s grocery industry. According to the news articles of The
Financial Times on November 21, 2003, Morrison won the battle of bidding for Safeway with a £2.9
bn agreed offer. Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury, and Safeway are the four biggest market shareholders in
Britain s grocery industry. Tesco owns 26% of the market and Asda possesses 16% of the market.
Asda is owned by American supermarket giant Wal Mart which aims to be the No.1 in Britain s
grocery industry. To avoid these firms operating as a monopoly, the UK government has restricted
these three firms from acquiring Safeway.
The economic and political environments are essential aspects and they present a framework for

framework is important for MNEs in determining where they should locate their investment.
Government often attracts foreign investment by offering MNEs grant aid and other forms of

Federal Funding for Public Broadcasting is a Bust Essay
Each year the United States spends .014% of its budget on public broadcasting. This amounted to
approximately $445 million spent on funding towards public broadcasting in 2012. (Defending Public
Broadcasting Should Not Be Done Lightly) The funding was meant to help public broadcasting
stations get to a state where they could support themselves on their own. However, many stations
continued to take the funding even though they did not require it. Despite this, the stations that abused
the funding happened to have some very educational programs that most stations lacked which
brought the question whether or not they should be punished. But think about it, is it not bad enough

The funding provided by the federal government was meant to temporarily help public broadcasting
stations until they could become self sustaining, and stations such as PBS have proven that they are
now much more than self sustaining. What does this mean? It means that we are not just paying taxes
to help support stations in desperate need of the funding; it means that we are helping to pay for some
greedy stations bills due to them being too lazy to pay from their own wallet. This is not only hurting
our budgets, economy, and living conditions at home. This is also flowing money away from
situations that are truly in dire need of the money. These situations would include community projects,
poor hospitals, the homeless and hungry, disaster victims, and other minor, but significant tragedies.
Some may argue that many stations are innocent and really use federal funding for its intended
purpose, but does that mean that the cost is worth it? More money would be wasted on selfish penny
pinchers over at PBS and other minor stations than anywhere else. So in the end it really doesn t seem
worth it, it s just too big of a hassle and they can thank PBS for the funding cuts. But let us back track
a bit now, what about broadcasting by radio? Well if you re asking this, then you are probably not

The Aspect Of Faux Furs In The Fashion Industry
The Aspect of Faux Furs in the Fashion Industry
Faux (f oh) Made in imitation; Fake
Faux furs in the fashion industry is the only moral substitute against real furs. Furs in the fashion
industry, is it moral? This has been an alarming question for quite some time. In response, the creation
of Faux furs has taken the industry by storm. For years, the bearing of fur in fashion was associated
with wealth, luxury, and glamour. With this perception of status, comes the perception of faux furs.
Associated with cheap, knock offs of furs; identified as a cheap imitation for the mass markets. (Trew,
2012).
Faux furs have taken primary standpoint for use of fashion, and are a predominant political statement
in the industry. Designers are using faux fur in a proud statement against the fur industry. Faux furs
are being used as political protest statements, and have evolved into a creature of their own from a life
of being a tacky counterfeit. While faux fur has very recently created a strong positive presence in
fashion, it s debate has been dated back to the 19th century. PETA s campaign of naked celebrities
protested that they would rather go naked than wear fur ; while David Bailey s Dumb Animals
campaign for Greenpeace protested that It takes 40 dumb animals to make a fur coat, but only one to
wear them. These campaigns were some of the most publicized and controversial and took place in a
controversial time for the great fur debate, the eighties and nineties. The protest

Rock And Roll, Segregation, And The British Invasion Of 1964
I watched a video from the 50th anniversary presentations. The video I watched was about Rock and
Roll, Segregation, and The British Invasion of 1964. It was lectured by Dr. Christy Talbott, and she
first talked about the pre rock and roll period. The term Rock and Roll came from a song from the year
1938, that stated My baby rock and rolls me all night. Rock and Roll or also known as American
Rock, was changed completely after the British Invasion came in 1964. The invasion turned Rock and
Roll into what is known today as Rock, it made a change for the good. Musicians in the pre Rock and
Roll era, sang about current events similar as we do today. The events they sang about was
Segregation, North Vs. South inferiority and the wars that were happening at the time World War 2,
Korean War and Vietnam War. THe artists of this time consisted of The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly,
Jerry Lee Lewis, Ritchie Valens and the most famous of them all Elvis Presley. Elvis Presley s music

##hagavad Gita As Duty And Virtue Ethics In Bina Gupta s...
What makes a person virtuous? What is virtue ethics and how does one display virtue ethics? These
questions have been asked and debated over and over again, each time resulting in different answers.
Bina Gupta attempts to answer this question of the ages in his article Bhagavad Gita as Duty and
Virtue Ethics by declaring, So, who is a virtuous person? A virtuous person knows what she is doing;
chooses to act for herself; and acts through an expression of a stable and mature character. In The
Mahabharata translated and abridged by R.K. Narayan, there are many of the cast of thousands that
grow in their character and display virtue ethics. Each of these characters develops through trial and
situations they are thrust into or unwisely place themselves in. There is one character that stands out
and clearly displays virtue ethics throughout the entirety of the narrative. This character is Draupadi,
the daughter of Drupada and wife to the Pandava brothers. Draupadi has a firm sense of her beliefs,
acts for herself, upholds the values of the culture, and holds others to the same standard of virtuous
behavior. Draupadi has a strong sense of what she believes are ethical decisions and attitudes, and she
lets these beliefs guide her actions. Dhritarashtra, the king of Hastinapur, said of Draupadi Daughter,
even in this trial you have stood undaunted holding on to virtue. (65)
Firstly, Draupadi is a strong character, who knows what she is doing and chooses to act for herself.

How Does Ninotchka Relate To Capitalism
Ninotchka: Capitalism over Communism
The film from 1939, Ninotchka, the comedy drama directed by Ernst Lubitsch shows how the culture
and attitude was towards Soviets and follows an underlying political issue about whether communism
is better than capitalism and vice versa. Ninotchka was made during a turbulent time in history. It was
released during the second World War, not long after Hitler had invaded Poland. In Europe, the year of
the film s release, World War II had broke out and the foreign market for movies was waning.
Mussolini had also said that Italy would be entering the war in that year. The release of Ninotchka had

Ninotchka was made during a very integral part of history and shows some key historical aspects and
cultural aspects of the time period. This film reverses gender roles through the character of Ninotchka
and shows how sexuality was becoming more and more overt in films and regulations becoming more
lax on it because people wanted to see more overt sexuality. Ninotchka was released just as World War
II was starting. The theme of the film was also very important because it explored the different aspects
of the capitalist system versus the communist system while portraying the capitalist system in a more
favorable light. However it makes a joke out the communist system through its portrayal of the three
comrades and their behavior. It addresses a major issues and takes a stand against it while also doing
so in a comical way. For these reasons, the film, Ninotchka had a very significant political meaning
because of the time period it was released and the risk it was taking against Russia who was a much
needed ally. It also shows the culture of the time period and how people were feared the threat of
communism and the influence it might have on their country. Ninotchka was able to encompass all of
these aspects and was able to portray it in a way that was enjoyable but was also very persuasive in
showing why capitalism is more favorable than

How Did The Great Divergence Occur In The 19th Century
The Great Divergence signifies a period in history where Europe, particularly north western Europe,
developed economically at a much faster rate than the most prosperous parts of Asia, namely India and
China. However, the timing of this period is unclear, with dispute amongst historians as to whether it
occurred in the aftermath of the Industrial Revolution in the nineteenth century, or as being well under
way in the seventeenth century (Gupta and Ma, 2010, p. 285). Chinese failure and European success
arguably both contributed to the Great Divergence, but it is key to determine its timing in order to
understand which ultimately led to the phenomenon. This essay will outline both arguments and
attempt to show that the Great Divergence occurred by the seventeenth century.
A key feature pointed out by the believers of the earlier divergence is that the ... Show more content on

2010, p. 228). As well as being comparable in living standards, north west Europe and Asia both were
similar in terms of trade, literatures and centralisation (Goldstone, 2002, p. 338). In fact, India and
China can be seen as more technically advanced; India s cotton was unrivalled by England
(Chaudhuri, 1990; cited by Goldstone, 2002, p. 366), and China was productive agriculturally, had a
well developed bureaucracy, and was not bettered in terms its manufactures (Marks 1997; cited by
Goldstone, 2002, p. 366). The evidence appears to show that, in the eighteenth century, the more
advanced Asian countries were clearly still in line with north west

Creating Artificial Heart Research
This paper will present to you the current developments in the area of creating artificial hearts.
Artificial hearts are synthetically made devices designed to replace flesh and blood hearts when they
no longer work to their full capacity. Researchers have created many artificial hearts that are suitable
for assisting the heart when half of the heart is no longer functioning well, but they have not yet
created an artificial heart that can function in place of a heart for a person s entire life. This topic is
interesting and gives scientists a better understanding of how our heart functions and how to replicate
those functions to prolong people s lives. This paper will present the research in a chronological order
of discoveries. Human hearts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a failure, however scientists have discovered since then that pig hearts are relatively effective
for heart transplantation (Maher, 2013). The first electronically powered artificial heart was
transplanted into a human in 1991. Electronically powered hearts are powered by a battery pack inside
the heart. They are easier to manage, make no noise and are usually rechargeable through the skin.
Since then, most artificial hearts have become electronically powered. In the early 1900s, researchers,
finding they had created multiple artificial hearts that functioned correctly, focused their attention on
creating a smaller, but just as powerful artificial heart for children and small adults. DeBakey
Ventricular Assist Device is one of those. The device was created out of a collaboration of DeBakey
and NASA, and is a tenth the size of most artificial hearts. It only requires 8 watts of power to
function, and it can be recharged through the skin. This artificial heart was rather successful, and most
likely saved many lives ( Artificial Heart Invention ,

Deborah Tannen is an American academic and professor of linguistics at Georgetown University in

Tannen starts her argument by explaining differences in conversational styles between genders. This
provides the audience an idea about what topic she is going to debate. However, after stating her thesis
and backing it with references, she detracts from her main argument. Firstly, she includes the insights
of her colleagues. These are meant to provide leverage to her argument yet they distract the audience
from the main idea and Tannen does not incorporate the information into her own ideas thus these
accounts fail to validate her theory. Finally, she jumps on to her class experiment, going into
unnecessary details as it covers a quarter of her article. Even though the experiment yields results
which Tannen finds successful, the results hardly relate to her main idea rather they provide new
conclusions which again cause the audience to wonder about the direction the article is headed. Again
Tannen fails to integrate the findings with her thesis and generally assumes every difference in

Who Is Martin Luther King On Christian Liberty
The battle for liberty has been fought on different scales with the beginning of thousands of
revolutions in the history. The ideal liberty is an ultimate goal that inflames the minds of many people
who yearn for individual freedom. In all these struggles, the definition of liberty is not the same for
different people. According to the text, the idea of liberty has played a powerful role in the history of
Western society and culture, but the meaning and understanding of liberty has undergone continual
change and interpretation. For example in the Roman world, liberty meant the condition of being a
free man. In the Middle Ages, liberty meant having special privileges or rights. However, the idea of
liberty under religious dimension was rather new. Martin Luther King had interpreted another
important foundation of liberty in his treatise On Christian Liberty: the important of faith and
Scripture to Christian life.
King meant of liberty was based not on articulation of justification by faith alone but through the word
of Gospel. Perhaps, people should have liberty in terms of their connection to God not controlled or
managed by the Church. King understood human liberty, broadly, as the capacity for a spiritual, new
and inward man to make a man a justified, free and true Christian. According to King, Christian man
is the most free lord of all, and subject to none. Of course, faith gives us true Christian liberty. We are
free from the law as regards our salvation.

Descriptive Essay About My Place In High School
Have you ever been in a place that at first glance does not seem like anything special, yet the more
time you spend in that place the more enjoyable it becomes? As you are going into high school you
will be taking several FACS classes. The more you know about the FACS room the better prepared
you will be for those classes. The FACS classroom at Holcomb High School is a delightful place to be.
There are three different sections that make up the FACS classroom. Starting first with the classroom
its self, where all the desks are, and where you do your textbook assignments. The second part of the
classroom is the adjoining room that is made up of the kitchens that you learn to cook in. The last part
is the small picnic area outside. As you first walk through the door into the classroom, you will notice
how large the classroom is. As you scan the room for the first time you will see that the room has lots
of pops of colors from pictures and posters on the walls. You will see the roughly twenty five cheap
plastic desk and chairs. The walls are tan painted cinder blocks, the paint gives the walls a smooth yet
sort of bumpy texture. As you look up to the ceiling you will see ceiling tiles, that over the years have
faded and been scuffed up. Looking down at the floor you will see that the floor is covered in well
abused glued down laminate tiles. The tiles stared as an off white and have slowly yellowed. Cabinets

Many teenagers resort to prostitution out of desperation.
The unfortunate popularity of teen prostitution has led to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, physical and

anyone(Farley www.prostitutionresearch.com). Along with having many sexual partners, studies show
that 80% of prostitutes have been raped. Also, studies show an even more dejecting fact, the average
prostitute gets raped eight to ten times a year(Farley www.prostitutionresearch.com). Moreover,
emotional abuse also results in PTSD. This type of abuse can, sometimes, traumatize and be even
more psychologically scarring than sexual and physical abuse. In the world of prostitution, the pimps
frequently emotionally abuse the prostitutes. The multiple threats on their lives and the constant
humiliation that they suffer leads 75% of prostitutes in the escort service to attempt suicide, 15% of

becoming a prostitute causes them to lower or compromise their moral standards. Along those same
lines, when prostitutes get emotionally abused, they become stripped of all physical and emotional

Gel Filtration Lab Report
Gel Filtration and SDS PAGE of a Mixture OBJECTIVE. I This Lab Report is an analysis of the
results of a two part experiment. In the first part, we used a gel filtration column to separate the
components of a mixture composed of protein and non protein molecules. By doing so we hoped to
obtain fractions that contained single components of the mixture, while also gaining insight into the
relative molecular weight of each component compared to each other. We would then plot these
fractions onto nitrocellulose paper in order to determine which fractions had protein. In the second
part, we would use the fractions which we had determined had protein to conduct an SDS PAGE. By
doing so we hoped to determine an estimate on the molecular weight of the proteins present in each
fraction by comparing it to a tracker dye composed of a variety of molecules of differing molecular
weight. METHODS. II In the gel filtration step, we began with a slurry of Bio Gel P 100 beads
suspended in 20 mM phosphate buffer (Equilibration buffer) and an upright column with a stopcock.
We added enough of the Bio Gel P 100 beads to the column until we reached a height of 4.7 cm,
making sure not to allow the column to run dry and that the top of the beads column is flat. We then
added the sample, a mixture of Blue Dextran (2 mg/ml, 2 MDa), Hemoglobin (2 mg/ml), Bovine
Serum Albumin (2 mg/ml), and Yellow Food Coloring (5 μl/ml, ~500 Da) (Sheffield, 37). This was

False Memory Syndrome
Psychologists have diligently studied the human mind for many years and have yet to discover some
of the ways that the brain performs simple and complex tasks. Since the knowledge that has been
obtained concerning processes of the brain remains a mere fraction compared to what is unknown
about cognitive functioning, individuals cannot fully grasp the reasoning behind why the brain
performs some of the acts it does. Many people daydream, picture themselves recovering lost items in
obscure places, or even create stories repeated so much that individuals begin to believe they may
have happened; all three of these examples are forms of creating a false memory. Many psychologists
have researched, evaluated, and experimented with false memory, which has lead to the discovery of
False Memory Syndrome, a condition in which individuals contract false memories while almost
always remaining oblivious to the act of creating a memory that is not factual or concrete (Berger 1).
False memory syndrome develops as a result of many different internal and external forces such as
mind manipulation in psychological malpractice, severe trauma to the brain in the first few years of
life, a traumatic experience, or even by forcing one s self into believing an entirely made up thought;
however, seemingly healthy individuals can contract the syndrome without the slightest idea it is
present.

The Civil War still has major impacts on America today. For example, an immediate response to the

their ancestors and their past of slavery before the war and segregation after the war. Marathon,
Greece is located about 22 miles from Athens, Greece. This is the site of the famous Battle of
Marathon which took place in 490 B.C. between the Athenians, led by Platea, and the Persians, led by
Datis and Artaphernes. The Persian War was sparked by the Greek involvement and support in the
Ionian revolt, Ionia was a small Greek polis. The Athenians sent forces to aid the Ionians in their
endeavor to overthrow Persian rule. King Darius I of Persia swore he would get revenge on the
Athenians. The Battle of Marathon marked a turning point in the Persian Wars, which ended the
Persian invasion. The Greeks took a victory over Persian in this battle and Persia was at a loss of more
than just dignity. They lost the chance of expansion which was necessary to acquire more resources
and wealth for their kingdom. To notify the city of defeat or victory a runner, Phaedippas was sent to
Athens and when he arrived he was able to get the word victory out and then collapsed and died. The

Empathy In To Kill A Mockingbird
How The Author s Message is Portrayed to the Reader by the Development of Jem and Scout
Upon being brought up in a white Christian household, it becomes increasingly difficult for one to
empathize with the other types of people. The Ewells, African Americans, and the Cunninghams are
the three groups that are degraded by the upper white class of Maycomb, Alabama. In the book To Kill
a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Jem and Scout get the opportunity to go to an African American
church, invite a Cunningham to their house, and witness a court trial. This in turn contributes to the
better understanding of the others. Harper Lee s message to the reader says that it is necessary for one
to have empathy so that society can work together and have a harmonious lifestyle. To Kill a
Mockingbird explores the different forms of discrimination that are seen throughout Maycombian
society. There are four different kinds of folks in the world...ordinary kind [whites], there s the kind
like Cunninghams out in the woods, the kind like the Ewells down at the dump, and the [blacks] (226).
The level of status determines one s respect in society as well as how one is treated and perceived. The
higher up one is ranked means that the level of hatred for others is increased; as whites don t like the
Cunninghams, the Cunninghams don t like the Ewells, and the Ewells hate and despise colored folks
(226). Seeing this has made Jem and Scout realize that they are lucky that they live in a Christian

Country Music Has Gone Through Many Phases Of Different...
Country music has gone through many phases of different musical styles including the honky tonk
style and more modern pop country style. More recently, mainstream country has continued to define
itself through bringing all these different styles together and relying on each of them. This genre of
music faces issues relating to its original classification as being working class music , being in
opposition to homosexuality and its portrayal and absence of women. Often times I have heard people
say that they prefer all genres of music, except country. Growing up I always listened to country music
due to the fact that my mom and our family friends often listen to it, therefore I never understood why
it unveiled such a negative reaction for most people. Oftentimes I find myself excluding my
enjoyment of country music to others simply to avoid their surprised reactions. While I realize how
people may be closed off to country music because of the labels that have been imposed upon it in
common discourse and media, I often would like to point out that modern country music that is played
on the radio today is often very different from more traditional country music played many years ago,
and is not that much different from pop and rock sounds. These issues of class divide, homosexuality
and the role of women must be looked upon in relation to contemporary country music, which can be
considered a more relevant discussion. From country music s roots stemming from Folk and Blues

The Misrepresentation Of Arabs Culture In Hollywood
The misrepresentation of minorities is frequent in Hollywood films and Arabs are one of the many
minority groups Hollywood misrepresent. Arabs are portrayed negatively in films for long time even

untrustworthy, aggressive and almost always associated with terrorism. The continuously falsification
could lead to stereotypes, misjudgment, and damage to Arabic culture. There are handful of movies
released featuring Arabs characters in a negative way although the one that caught my attention is
Rules of Engagement. The film Rules of Engagement, was produced by Scott Rudin and Richard D.
Zanuck, which was released in March 31st 2000. The film star leading characters are Samuel L.

tradition is being normalized. The film is about a U.S. Marines whose base was in Yemen and had
conflict with the civilians. The Arabs in the film were portrayed as violent people who were killing the
Marines at the U.S. Embassy, where the civilians were protesting. The film set unacceptable image of

On December 26, 1919, Babe Ruth was traded to the Yankees. Several reasons such as Babe s

Patient Safety And The Medical Errors
In today s fast paced healthcare environment, patient safety as well as healthcare quality has become a
major priority. A growing focus on patient safety and the increasing medical errors has made various
healthcare management teams more proactive in identifying and preventing potential risks for patients.
While a great deal of progress has been made in recognizing most medical errors, it is also important
to note that in a healthcare environment there are a number of factors involved, therefore the strategies
used to reduce them vary as well. So, despite a healthcare provider s overall reputation, experience,
skills or knowledge in the healthcare field, there is always a slight possibility for a medical error to
take place, similar to our case of Mrs. Jonesky and Samantha Jones. Root Cause Analysis Definition

public recently and assigned to the genus Homo provisionally. Study indicates that H. naledi was well
adapted for standing and walking on two feet, but was also possibly comfortable climbing trees, which
was described as a messiness of bipedal walking in the title. This news item is based The Foot of
Homo Naledi in Nature Communications, which indicates that H. naledi foot is predominantly human
like in morphology and inferred function.
From my perspective, the news item and the original article are overall both scientific, persuasive and
precisely reasoned.
First, the results of study are derived from plenty of samples. The news item points out that modern
human (Homo sapien) and Homo naledi both are part of the Homo genus. The Homo genus and the
Australopithecus genus are referred to as hominins. In the original article, researchers not only
compare foot of H. naledi with that of H. sapiens, but also gather samples (e.g. G. gorilla, Pan
troglodytes, Au. Africanus, Au. Sediba, Au. Afarensis, Au ramidus, H. floresiensis, Neanderthal etc.)
from several different museums. The abundant samples enable researchers to come up with rational
conclusion through plenty of comparison. The news item mentions that Homo genus also includes
Homo erectus and Homo

King Henry VIII and The Reformation
Martyrdom. The selfish king. A young monk. All played a significant part in the Reformation. Before
the Reformation, the people of England were homogenous in their beliefs as they followed the
Christian teachings of the Roman Catholic Pope. The Roman Catholic Church is an ancient Church,
and changes have been made over centuries. Problems arose because of corruption in the church such
as the political power of the Pope and the concept of indulgences. An indulgence can be described as
paying a fee to buy forgiveness. At this time the Church was very powerful and persecuted anyone
with differing beliefs including burning people at the stake for having what were supposedly heretical
beliefs. King Henry VIII led the English Reformation by introducing a new church and bringing an
end to the power of the Pope. Because of his love and study of the Word of God, Martin Luther
launched the Reformation which reached all of Europe through his 95 Theses. Each of these events
working simultaneously sparked religious unrest and contention; the Reformation began to
materialize. The Reformation was a time of increasing religious diversity and tolerance. In spite of
centuries of violence, religious tolerance can be found in England because of the lessons learned
through the Catholic Protestant conflict during the Reformation. King Henry the VIII increased
religious tolerance in England during the Reformation. From 1480 to 1530 before King Henry s reign,
society in England was arguably

Society Vs Savagery In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
Lord of the Flies Process Paper
What s the thing holding society back from anarchy and chaos? The novel Lord of The Flies written
by William Golding introduces the topic of society versus savagery and how humans naturally drive
towards the latter. Social constructs are the foundation of which savagery is contained. The theme of
Lord of the Flies is that all forms of civilization have a constant never ending drive towards savagery.
Golding conveys this with his use of characters, setting, and symbolism throughout the novel.
The author uses his character s relationships and internal struggles to convey the theme. Ralph s
agenda of keeping the group together and lighting a signal fire shows that he is a civilized leader who
is also challenged by Jack, a savage unleashed. The boys play a game after a hunt where Robert is
hunted down as the pig Ralph too was fighting to get near, to get a handful of that brown vulnerable
flesh gnawing at Robert and poking him with their spears (Golding 114). The imagery of Ralph
attempting to reach for Robert is peculiar to his behavior as he s always been civilized throughout the
novel. The word vulnerable implies that Ralph is a predator and Robert is prey waiting to be struck
down. This behavior is the innate savagery trying to free itself, caged within Ralph s civilized brain.
Robert struggles to break free from the hunter s grasps when Ralph mumbles haltingly, Just a game... I
got jolly hurt at rugger once (Golding 115). He catches his

  • 2. International Trade And Domestic Monetary Policy Essay 1. INTRODUCTION If you want to know the value of money, go and try to borrow some. This quote by Benjamin Franklin seems to have laid a foundation for several financial concepts and practices. International trade and domestic monetary policy of a country are closely connected to each other. A financial incentive can increase export opportunities for trading partners whereas foreign exchange controls for balance of payments can inhibit exports. Intervention of the Apex bank in foreign exchange markets may fuel exports and impede imports or vice versa, subject to the direction of manipulation. Several rules prohibit nations from deceitfully enhancing exports and reducing imports through exchange rate manipulation. Traditional hesitancy to pursue currency manipulations exists among policymakers even today. Some policymakers commiserate with purposes of currency manipulation, especially as protection against economic shockwaves and for providing income for upcoming generations when nonrenewable resources are exhausted. Although the unemployment figures have perceivably plunged in recent times, the economic downturn of 2008 has left a trail of economic and social displacement. The United States has already lost millions of jobs due to currency interventions by other countries. Will the ascension of a handful of greedy and fraudulent Wall Street traders coupled with China s hunger to be the world s most powerful economy, descend the global economy into a bottomless pit in ... • 3. Anselms Ontological Argument For The Existence Of God Summary In Anselm s ontological argument of the existence of God, Anselm s goal is to prove the existence of God by purely logical truths and reasoning (that is, his argument only contains A Priori knowledge). A summary of Anselm s argument is that, because God exists in understanding, and that God is the supreme being, and that real things are greater than things only existing in understanding, then God must exist in understanding. A formal, numbered argument follows: The next second and third premises are not directly stated, but Anselm uses an argument which deserves special attention to assert the premise is sound. Can one person be a terrorist without the support of a group? Is terrorism defined by motive or result? As my group explored these questions and many more my beliefs were challenged. The group almost never agreed unanimously. I found myself frequently on the side of the minority. This was highlighted early on in the discussion when I disagreed with most of my group about scenario 1. I initially felt the actions of the unnamed man later labeled as Samuel Adams were the actions of a terrorist. Samuel Adams was not trying to overthrow his government, so he was not a rebel. As we talked, I spoke about civil war, the right of a people to overthrow oppressive government, and the reasons for established political parties to take up arms against the majority party. At the end of the discussion, enough of the votes had swung our way for the group to label scenario 5, Not Terrorism. I still am not sure whether scenarios 8 and 9 would be considered hate crime, terrorism, or both. But there were thirty eight witnesses and nobody attempted to help her. It is unimaginable. There was a psychological issue that is called bystanders. Most people when hearing about this sort of thing react with horror not so much in the direction of the crime, but rather at the actions of the bystanders. The bystander effect is a psychological phenomenon in which someone is less likely to intervene in an emergency situation when others are present than when a person is alone. It is one of those questions that can be asked over and over again. Why did no one call for help? It would not be hard to pick up the phone; what kind of people could ignore such a thing? It is very miserable. However, the fact is that the reactions of the bystanders are horrible. This lack of action is one of the reasons why Kitty Genovese is taught in intro to psychology courses. The three major schools of philosophy in Hinduism are Vedanta, Sankhya, and Yoga. In this way, the path of knowledge is experienced. Jnana Marga is knowledge of a very special sort, amounting to extraordinary insight that is far beyond merely knowing about the subject matter (Brodd 54). This practice of Vedanta is representative of the monism of Hinduism. This means that (a)ll reality is essentially one... (Brodd 55). This can be a difficult idea to understand because Vedanta impresses the notion that the persistent sense of individuality prevents us from actually experiencing the truth (Brodd 55). The example of a drop of water is used to explain this concept best. It can be thought that a drop of water is separate from the vast ocean but once this small drop of water is contained in the ocean, there is no way to distinguish it from the other drops of water. Likewise, we have an illusion of separate identity but are one. The ultimate goal is to experience this truth and then the path of knowledge will have been fully met; this is known as Brahman. That which is distracting and serves as the illusion is called Maya. Next, Sankhya differs from Vedanta because it asserts that reality is composed of two distinct categories: matter, and an infinite number of eternal selves (Brodd 56). Somehow, the multitudes of selves become tangled with matter and when this occurs they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The funding provided by the federal government was meant to temporarily help public broadcasting stations until they could become self sustaining, and stations such as PBS have proven that they are now much more than self sustaining. What does this mean? It means that we are not just paying taxes to help support stations in desperate need of the funding; it means that we are helping to pay for some greedy stations bills due to them being too lazy to pay from their own wallet. This is not only hurting our budgets, economy, and living conditions at home. This is also flowing money away from situations that are truly in dire need of the money. These questions have been asked and debated over and over again, each time resulting in different answers. A virtuous person knows what she is doing; chooses to act for herself; and acts through an expression of a stable and mature character. In The Mahabharata translated and abridged by R.K. They are easier to manage, make no noise and are usually rechargeable through the skin. Since then, most artificial hearts have become electronically powered. In the early 1900s, researchers, finding they had created multiple artificial hearts that functioned correctly, focused their attention on creating a smaller, but just as powerful artificial heart for children and small adults. DeBakey Ventricular Assist Device is one of those. The device was created out of a collaboration of DeBakey and NASA, and is a tenth the size of most artificial hearts. It only requires 8 watts of power to function, and it can be recharged through the skin. This artificial heart was rather successful, and most likely saved many lives ( Artificial Heart Invention , ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Her research mainly focuses on the expression of interpersonal relationships in conversational interactions, including how these interactions are affected by gender and cultural differences. In her essay Tannen uses gender to reveal the differences between male and female conversational styles in classroom discussions. She formulates the theory that males naturally prefer and dominate contributions to these debate like discussions while females incline to contribute to less hostile conversations. Tannen starts her argument by explaining differences in conversational styles between genders. This provides the audience an idea about what topic she is going to debate. However, after stating her thesis and backing it with references, she detracts from her main argument. Firstly, she includes the insights of her colleagues. These are meant to provide leverage to her argument yet they distract the audience from the main idea and Tannen does not incorporate the information into her own ideas thus these accounts fail to validate her theory. Finally, she jumps on to her class experiment, going into unnecessary details as it covers a quarter of her article. Even though the experiment yields results which Tannen finds successful, the results hardly relate to her main idea rather they provide new conclusions which again cause the audience to wonder about the direction the article is headed. • 25. Who Is Martin Luther King On Christian Liberty The battle for liberty has been fought on different scales with the beginning of thousands of revolutions in the history. The ideal liberty is an ultimate goal that inflames the minds of many people who yearn for individual freedom. In all these struggles, the definition of liberty is not the same for different people. According to the text, the idea of liberty has played a powerful role in the history of Western society and culture, but the meaning and understanding of liberty has undergone continual change and interpretation. For example in the Roman world, liberty meant the condition of being a free man. In the Middle Ages, liberty meant having special privileges or rights. However, the idea of liberty under religious dimension was rather new. Martin Luther King had interpreted another important foundation of liberty in his treatise On Christian Liberty: the important of faith and Scripture to Christian life. King meant of liberty was based not on articulation of justification by faith alone but through the word of Gospel. Perhaps, people should have liberty in terms of their connection to God not controlled or managed by the Church. King understood human liberty, broadly, as the capacity for a spiritual, new and inward man to make a man a justified, free and true Christian. According to King, Christian man is the most free lord of all, and subject to none. Of course, faith gives us true Christian liberty. We are free from the law as regards our salvation. ... Descriptive Essay About My Place In High School Have you ever been in a place that at first glance does not seem like anything special, yet the more time you spend in that place the more enjoyable it becomes? As you are going into high school you will be taking several FACS classes. The more you know about the FACS room the better prepared you will be for those classes. The FACS classroom at Holcomb High School is a delightful place to be. There are three different sections that make up the FACS classroom. Starting first with the classroom its self, where all the desks are, and where you do your textbook assignments. The second part of the classroom is the adjoining room that is made up of the kitchens that you learn to cook in. The last part is the small picnic area outside. As you first walk through the door into the classroom, you will notice how large the classroom is. As you scan the room for the first time you will see that the room has lots of pops of colors from pictures and posters on the walls. You will see the roughly twenty five cheap plastic desk and chairs. The walls are tan painted cinder blocks, the paint gives the walls a smooth yet sort of bumpy texture. As you look up to the ceiling you will see ceiling tiles, that over the years have faded and been scuffed up. Looking down at the floor you will see that the floor is covered in well abused glued down laminate tiles. The tiles stared as an off white and have slowly yellowed. • 30. Gel Filtration Lab Report Gel Filtration and SDS PAGE of a Mixture OBJECTIVE. I This Lab Report is an analysis of the results of a two part experiment. In the first part, we used a gel filtration column to separate the components of a mixture composed of protein and non protein molecules. By doing so we hoped to obtain fractions that contained single components of the mixture, while also gaining insight into the relative molecular weight of each component compared to each other. We would then plot these fractions onto nitrocellulose paper in order to determine which fractions had protein. In the second part, we would use the fractions which we had determined had protein to conduct an SDS PAGE. By doing so we hoped to determine an estimate on the molecular weight of the proteins present in each fraction by comparing it to a tracker dye composed of a variety of molecules of differing molecular weight. METHODS. II In the gel filtration step, we began with a slurry of Bio Gel P 100 beads suspended in 20 mM phosphate buffer (Equilibration buffer) and an upright column with a stopcock. We added enough of the Bio Gel P 100 beads to the column until we reached a height of 4.7 cm, making sure not to allow the column to run dry and that the top of the beads column is flat. We then added the sample, a mixture of Blue Dextran (2 mg/ml, 2 MDa), Hemoglobin (2 mg/ml), Bovine Serum Albumin (2 mg/ml), and Yellow Food Coloring (5 μl/ml, ~500 Da) (Sheffield, 37). • 31. False Memory Syndrome Psychologists have diligently studied the human mind for many years and have yet to discover some of the ways that the brain performs simple and complex tasks. Since the knowledge that has been obtained concerning processes of the brain remains a mere fraction compared to what is unknown about cognitive functioning, individuals cannot fully grasp the reasoning behind why the brain performs some of the acts it does. Many people daydream, picture themselves recovering lost items in obscure places, or even create stories repeated so much that individuals begin to believe they may have happened; all three of these examples are forms of creating a false memory. Many psychologists have researched, evaluated, and experimented with false memory, which has lead to the discovery of False Memory Syndrome, a condition in which individuals contract false memories while almost always remaining oblivious to the act of creating a memory that is not factual or concrete (Berger 1). False memory syndrome develops as a result of many different internal and external forces such as mind manipulation in psychological malpractice, severe trauma to the brain in the first few years of life, a traumatic experience, or even by forcing one s self into believing an entirely made up thought; however, seemingly healthy individuals can contract the syndrome without the slightest idea it is present. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Jem and Scout get the opportunity to go to an African American church, invite a Cunningham to their house, and witness a court trial. This in turn contributes to the better understanding of the others. Harper Lee s message to the reader says that it is necessary for one to have empathy so that society can work together and have a harmonious lifestyle. To Kill a Mockingbird explores the different forms of discrimination that are seen throughout Maycombian society. Country music has gone through many phases of different musical styles including the honky tonk style and more modern pop country style. More recently, mainstream country has continued to define itself through bringing all these different styles together and relying on each of them. This genre of music faces issues relating to its original classification as being working class music , being in opposition to homosexuality and its portrayal and absence of women. Often times I have heard people say that they prefer all genres of music, except country. Growing up I always listened to country music due to the fact that my mom and our family friends often listen to it, therefore I never understood why it unveiled such a negative reaction for most people. Oftentimes I find myself excluding my enjoyment of country music to others simply to avoid their surprised reactions. While I realize how people may be closed off to country music because of the labels that have been imposed upon it in common discourse and media, I often would like to point out that modern country music that is played on the radio today is often very different from more traditional country music played many years ago, and is not that much different from pop and rock sounds. These issues of class divide, homosexuality and the role of women must be looked upon in relation to contemporary country music, which can be considered a more relevant discussion. This news item is based The Foot of Homo Naledi in Nature Communications, which indicates that H. naledi foot is predominantly human like in morphology and inferred function. • 43. King Henry VIII and The Reformation Martyrdom. The selfish king. A young monk. All played a significant part in the Reformation. Before the Reformation, the people of England were homogenous in their beliefs as they followed the Christian teachings of the Roman Catholic Pope. The Roman Catholic Church is an ancient Church, and changes have been made over centuries. Problems arose because of corruption in the church such as the political power of the Pope and the concept of indulgences. An indulgence can be described as paying a fee to buy forgiveness. At this time the Church was very powerful and persecuted anyone with differing beliefs including burning people at the stake for having what were supposedly heretical beliefs. King Henry VIII led the English Reformation by introducing a new church and bringing an end to the power of the Pope. Because of his love and study of the Word of God, Martin Luther launched the Reformation which reached all of Europe through his 95 Theses. Each of these events working simultaneously sparked religious unrest and contention; the Reformation began to materialize. The Reformation was a time of increasing religious diversity and tolerance. In spite of centuries of violence, religious tolerance can be found in England because of the lessons learned through the Catholic Protestant conflict during the Reformation. • 44. Society Vs Savagery In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding Lord of the Flies Process Paper What s the thing holding society back from anarchy and chaos? The novel Lord of The Flies written by William Golding introduces the topic of society versus savagery and how humans naturally drive towards the latter. Social constructs are the foundation of which savagery is contained. The theme of Lord of the Flies is that all forms of civilization have a constant never ending drive towards savagery. Golding conveys this with his use of characters, setting, and symbolism throughout the novel. The author uses his character s relationships and internal struggles to convey the theme. Ralph s agenda of keeping the group together and lighting a signal fire shows that he is a civilized leader who is also challenged by Jack, a savage unleashed. The boys play a game after a hunt where Robert is hunted down as the pig Ralph too was fighting to get near, to get a handful of that brown vulnerable flesh gnawing at Robert and poking him with their spears (Golding 114). The imagery of Ralph attempting to reach for Robert is peculiar to his behavior as he s always been civilized throughout the novel. The word vulnerable implies that Ralph is a predator and Robert is prey waiting to be struck down. This behavior is the innate savagery trying to free itself, caged within Ralph s civilized brain. Robert struggles to break free from the hunter s grasps when Ralph mumbles haltingly, Just a game... I got jolly hurt at rugger once (Golding 115). He catches his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
