Pro Tobacco Advertising
Although tobacco advertisements are banned, people still consume it. The ban started in 1971
and since then has become even more strict on the sponsoring and promotion of tobacco brand
logos. Now, all tobacco ads used, dissuade users from consuming. Advertisements in general can
be obnoxious and tiresome, but they are sometimes necessary for the seller to get their point
across. Ads are either trying to get money from the consumer or driving to change a person s mind
positively. The main reasoning for the creation of advertisements is to persuade the viewer or
audience through the evocation of ethos, pathos, and logos, to have a change of mind about the
product. The ads I chose are both similar, but have different goals towards their audience.... Show

This ad has an emotional appeal to the audience, as the result of both objects is not something
people really look forward to: death. Of course, nobody wants to die, its only human nature.
Looking at this ad, the viewer might start questioning him or herself emotionally, thinking about
the loved ones around them. In the end it will only hurt the people who care for them. A simple
yet powerful logical appeal towards its audience is accomplished ambiguously or dualistically. I
think it questions the viewer or smoker rationally, why they would want a slow and painful death.
The viewer can choose to die quick or slow , either option, you re going to die so you might as
well choose the bullet, a fast and less painful choice. But that is not what it is suggesting, it seems
to be getting at the point that death by either choice is unnecessary and ignorant of the user.
This type of advertisement is selfless in that it seeks to achieve satisfaction from the possibility of
stopping its intended audience from smoking and nothing more. It even asks at the bottom of the
picture if the individual needs help. Following up with a smokeline expresses concern for the
person. In its design, the layout has a depressing background. This gloomy image is possibly
representing what comes along with each deed. A glowing white font captures the viewer s eyes,
but is present to sort of highlight and make it clear that the

Principles Of Integrity In Public Administration
There are three ethical principles that are the most important for officials to excel in the field of
public administration. These principles are ranked below from 1 being the most important to 3
being important. Demonstrate personal integrity (1) There has not been much discussion about
the code of ethics in the past administrations than in Trump Administration. Personal integrity is
an asset in today s time where the political chaos runs the White House and where a hullabaloo
takes place every week. The atmosphere of chaos prevails in the government and society, which
causes disruptive governance to run in every level. In this presidency, there is a sense of
aristocracy where the privileged class has taken over the voice of the people and only depends on
those members of Congress who adhere to integrity to do what is right for the least privilege.
Upbringing integrity to the best of one character brings out courage to overcome obstacles. It is not
a secret that if officials who hold high positions and stand by their own decisions always fear
repercussions, but with this administration, they fear dismissal. For example, the attorney general
Saly Yates, who was fired after she defied the president s executive order banning people from seven
Muslim majority countries entering the U.S. (Newsweek, 2017). She decided to stand by her
position and she was punished for demonstrating integrity on an issue that deserves more evaluation
for policy implementation. Demonstrating

Analysis Of The Book Gates By Paul Andrews And Stephen...
Choice Book Essay Recently, I read the book Gates, how Microsoft s mogul reinvented an
industry and made himself the richest man in America by Paul Andrews and Stephen Manes in
1994. This was of course, during the time period when Apple was failing, and released an
operating system, System 9, that nobody needed nor wanted in 1994. IBM sure wished they haven
t filed those separation papers now, when Microsoftstock stormed overhead, selling out of
Windows 95 in less than two days globally. Over 2 million copies in fact, and the first publically
available windows that didn t run on top of MS DOS, our ancient overlord. This book told the
secret life of the ruler of the entire technology industry all the way to present day. The main
author is one of my favorites, since he wrote many articles on PC world, and gave a somewhat
honest review of Windows Vista, of course after Microsoft fired one of their top software
engineers. Stephen Manes was even mentioned on the Personal Computers columnist for the
Science Times section of the New York Times, and another on InformationWeek. At this time he
was even a successful editor for PC Magazine, PC/Computing, PCjr, and Net guide. Marketing
Computers also ranked him as one of the top 4 influential writes about the computer industry. He
also wrote over 30 books for many audiences from children to young adults, including Chicken Trek.

J Edgar Hoover s Rise to Power
J. Edgar Hoover for nearly a half of a century was and is one the most powerful officials in the
Federal government. He was the head of the FBI from 1924 until his death in 1972; he was the
chief law enforcement officer. With intimate knowledge of politicians and how government
operations made him the man to be feared by elected officials, none of the many presidents
whom he served under dared fire him. Hoover was born on January 1, 1895, in Washington D.C.
He died in Washington, D.C., on May 2, 1972. Attended GW University and earned his degree in
1917. He became an assistant in 1919 to Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer in the Department
of Justice. Palmer is the one that instigated the post WWI red scare this was an anti communist
plaque that led to the deportation of many aliens. In charge of deportations was Hoover, he
became the director of the FBI in 1924; he had a powerful force of law enforcement officers. The
FBI s fame was enhanced by capturing so many gangsters, lawbreakers, and bank robbers. In my
paper I am going to chat about how Hoover rose to his power and why he is one of the most
corrupt government officials. He is extremely powerful; he is a famous enforcement officer that
the US has ever known. Hoover started out on the bottom, with prestige and power he rocketed to
the top, at the top of his reign he was the director of the FBI. Factors that helped him in his career
were that he had many connections, and the power that he had a strong knowledge

Hidden Paths
Hidden Paths Behind the overgrown shrubs, lived a mystery the world would have never
known. Until now.Isabel ran to find her but could barely see, the darkness was swallowing her
up whole. The world behind her disappeared and all she saw were the bright yellow eyes of the
creatures in her path. Jorja, she screamed with all her heart. Isabel heard a faint cry in the
distance. She instantly assumed is was a cry from her, Jorja. Just as the cry went away, another one
came even louder than the first. Isabel knew, she just knew it was her. Without even thinking she

Jake then ask Jackson to help change Isabel and Jorja s mind. Nothing, they still wont listen to him.
The next day, Jorja comes rushing over to Isabel s house to start their search for the missing letter.
Without even knocking on the door she rushes in only to see that Isabel was already up and
ready to search for the gold. Neither of them said hi to each other before Jake and Jackson came
running in to stop them. Again, they kept trying to tell them that they could be hurt or even
killed. The girls think they are just trying to scare them out of going. Isabel thinks that Jackson
and Jake are trying to trick them into not going so they can find it themselves. What she doesn t
know is, she is wrong. Isabel and Jorja continue to ignore Jackson and Jake s advice and rush out
the door. They come up with almost four plans to find this missing letter. One was they were
going to get a map of the town and try and find suspicious places. Plan 2 was to go to the nearest
path and follow it to where it leads. Next plan was to go to the local police station and look at all
the latest thieves or robbers. They decided to go with the first plan. Isabel and Jorja went to find a
map of their town in the nearest grocery store. Once the got it, they didn t think twice and went
straight to the abandoned neighborhood and started their search. As the girls neared towards the
neighborhood Isabel was kind of second guessing their decision. Jorja had to drag

Spanish Colonialism on the History of Puerto Rican People...
Spanish Colonialism on the History of Puerto Rican People
Puerto Rico . The name immediately brings to mind images of a beautiful lush tropical island of
enchantment. The name Puerto Rico usually does not conjure the image of Taino Indians or
African slaves, yet these populations have great importance in laying the foundation for the notion
of identity of Puerto Ricans. In contemporary debates of Puerto Rican identity, it is essential to
examine the history of the island to determine the effects of Spanish colonialism on Puerto Rican
identity. As he demonstrates in his article Puerto Rico: the Four Storeyed Country , Jose L.
Gonzalez discusses the notion of identity as a series of storeys, one built upon another in order

17). The island s discovery did not lead to a quick occupation, though. Juan Ponce de Leon, in
search of gold, made the first effort to settle on the island in 1508. In the next twenty years, the
Taino population became decimated while forced to labor in prospecting gold, a phase that ended
in this time, succumbing to disease and a breakdown in their social network.
An important implication of this initial occupation of the island by Spaniards is the imposition of
the Spanish language. Because the Taino population could be counted in small amounts and
Spanish had established their presence on the island by instilling their language as the only
accepted language, in the name of Spain, a first storey was constructed in the notion of identity of
the Puerto Rican. The Tainos had been moved out and taken over, the Spanish had moved in and
started to let their culture infiltrate into that of the Taino, and now things were changing.
Because the gold rush on the island lost its surge, the Spanish turned its attention to the agricultural
success they could have with the island. However, as a result of their occupation, they lacked the
labor force to effectively move an agricultural economy. In order to replenish the population and
create a strong labor force, the Spanish took part in what others around Puerto Rico had begun to
do, import cheap labor, namely African slaves. As the profit grew from cash crops sugar emerging

One hypothesis is that since it is so easy to transmit to animals this may be why so many people
have gotten BU.
Even though BU has been reported in 33 countries there are only 15 that have been documented as
having a significant amount of cases. In those 15 countries there have been between 5,000 6,000
reported/documented cases of BU (Mycobacterium, www.who.int). Most patients, with this
disease, are younger than 15 years old (Buruli Ulcer, Nigeria). In Benin over half of the BU
patients are children.
There are so many poor families in Benin, and that makes it hard for them to take their children
to hospitals, which is why a lot of the patients that go to the hospitals have already had the disease
for 2 4 months (Small). If the patient was caught in the early stages of the disease then about 80%
of those patients could be cured by a combination of antibiotics (Mycobacterium, www.who.int).
For poor families it isn t only that they may not have insurance but it is also the traveling that is an
issue. In 1993 Colombia introduced a program called Colombia Regimen Subsidiado (SR) (http:/

preventative care would occur, and thus cut down on the expensive costs that occur when a patient

Essay On Fahrenheit 451 And Technology
Is the modern world becoming more like the thoughtless society of Fahrenheit 451? In 1953,
Fahrenheit 451, a classic novel written by Ray Bradbury, was published. This novel contains two
main themes: censorship and technology. Their society is so engrossed in new technology that
they neglect connecting to the world and the people around them. As technology continues to
advance in the modern world, these aspects become more apparent. While some people believe
that the world of Fahrenheit 451 is different from the modern world, society s reliance on
technology and actions regarding censorship show otherwise. Society s dependence on
technology has proven to impair communication skills. In the novel, Mildred and her friends
serve as a powerful example of this. One night, Mildred held a social gathering at her house,
which consisted of watching movies. Montag, the novel s main character, increasingly became
more distressed and pulled the TV plug. He proclaimed, Let s talk (Bradbury 271). The women s
reaction to the proclamation suggests they were uncomfortable. The novel states, The woman
jerked and stared (272). As Montag asks them questions about their lives, they struggle to answer.
As a result of making technology the center of their lives, these women were unable to hold a
simple conversation. In addition, following 15 years of research,... Show more content on

As a result, communication between humans has become unreal. People use technology to avoid
being uncomfortable, which may include having a genuine conversation. Technology is
increasingly being used to connect with others, which is not considered effective communication.
Similarly, censorship is continuing to increase and is being used to avoid having learning
experiences. If the modern world continues to practice these aspects, will they eventually become a
thoughtless society as seen in Fahrenheit

Unit 1 Assignment 1 Case Studies Of Endearment
Endearment, something that endears: an action or utterance showing affection and to makes
dear, esteemed, or beloved. These terms all have a positive connotation and are seen in an
affectionate view when used in any setting. In comparison, the n word is defined as a
contemptuous term used to refer to a person of any racial or ethnic origin regarded as
contemptible, inferior, ignorant, etc. and a victim of prejudice similar to that suffered by blacks; a
person who is economical, politically, or socially disenfranchised. These two words are in no way

I would establish a discussion forum that addressed both this particular racial slur and others in the
classroom setting. I would first gather resources and research relating to specific race relations and
racial slurs in the environment and the challenges that have been presented. Secondly, I would
request assistance in establishing a board/forum of students, teachers, administrators, and parents
who would be willing to discuss this issues collectively with positive results being the ultimate
goal. I would utilize this forum on a regular basis and not just during periods of tension. Keeping
communication open about these types of situations takes some of the apprehension and anger out
of them when they present themselves in our everyday lives. My rationale in this is that the
challenges that face society today are hindered by silence. When a person or group feels that they
do not have a voice, it hinders their ability to participate actively and productively in these types

A Controversy With The Name The Washington Redskins are a professional American football
team that is based out of Washington area and currently play at FedEx Field in Maryland. In 1932,
the name Boston Braves emerged when the football program began to arise. The following year, the
name the Boston Redskins replaced the original name of the Boston Braves. In 1937, the team
changed locations to Washington, thus making their current team name the Washington Redskins.
Unfortunately, a problem arose around the 1990 s when the Native American people began to feel
disrespected . The reason the Native American people have such hatred for the team is due to the
fact that it portrays and offends the Natives skin color with the name, Redskin. The Washington
Redskins debate plays a significant role in professional sports team history due to the
demoralization amongst Native American Society. Factors that contribute to this debate include,
but are not limited to; religion, economics, and politics.
The Native American people have a tenacious opinion on whether the Washington Redskins team
should change their name due to its derogatory meaning. According to Merriam Webster s
Dictionary, the word Redskin is defined as Native American, but is specifically stated to be Usually
Offensive (Merriam Webster). The Native Americans deeply thought that the names, symbols, and

The Importance Of Japanese Animation

negative connotation, anime had only gained more popularity during the 20th century. In addition,
many people learned that anime s audience were not just children, as young teens and adults

Banquettes are an alternative to chairs, a functional and space saving solution, which offers
seating and storage. Commonly incorporated in kitchens and dining areas, customized banquettes
usually help fill awkward corners and niches and put them to use, which makes banquettes a
favorite seating option. Although it depends on the size of the space, as they are easily accessible
when combined with banquettes, relatively smaller trestle or pedestal tables are a suitable
solution. In small spaces, where every inch counts, banquettes offer extra storage. These usually

Yellowstone Natural Park
Today, I paid a visit to one of the most famous national parks, named Yellowstone. My family and
I had come all the way to Wyoming to see the fantastic sights and natural wonders this park was
known for. Yellowstone national park is 2.2 million acres large, spanning out over Wyoming
largely, but also in Idaho and Montana. While I was present, I observed interesting wildlife and
their activities, such as black bears stirring about, elk grazing and coyotes trotting. There are many
more species of animals in Yellowstone too, including moose, bison, wolves, and bighorn sheep.
This park also contained many other interesting natural exhibits and awes including geysers,
mountains, and forests, the most famous geyser, being, Old Faithful.

in this park, all of which I thought were fascinating. Also, I have heard from several park rangers
that at one time, potato farmers in Idaho tried to get some of the water from Yellowstone by
building a dam. That would give the farmers access to the water. They tried to do this, but they
failed because of government intervention; furthermore proving that the resources located in
Yellowstone are highly desirable. When my final hours at Yellowstone come to a close, I will
look back at what an amazing day I had. Seeing all those sights and national symbols is a once in

Women In Aldous Huxley s A Brave New World
Aldous Huxley foresaw a great number of feats in his novel, but it seems that he saw no kind of
liberation for women at any point in the near or distant future. In fact, despite the dystopic nature of
Huxley s novel, he instead created a futuristic world that is hauntingly similar to our own. The only
difference being that Hover cars actually do exist. Upon first glance, the story seems liberating,
uplifting, and in every sense of the word, futuristic. But as you delve further into the novel you
become blinded by the blatant misogyny that holds this dull, unadventurous story together. Brave

If you were to walk into any government, court house, or police firm, you would find an
overwhelming amount of men filling up positions more times than not. You might say that oh,
but men are more fitted to those jobs! Women don t know how to be a police officer, judge,
prime minister, but that s only because we have never been given the chance. And if, like Julia
Gillard perhaps, we do happen to break through the misogynistic barriers of society, we would be
relentlessly ridiculed, even if we were more successful than any man before us. But Huxley s
lack of femme fatale doesn t stop him from portaying the few female characters in a non
favourable way. The only memorable female characters in the book, Lenina and Linda, were
both semi perfectly conditioned Betas, which gives the impression that women are single sided
and lack distinguishing characteristics. What s more is that Huxley doesn t mention a single
female Alpha plus nor World Leader; apparently the top of the food chain is not where women
belong. The Alpha plus males of Huxley s novel seem to be the only ones rebelling against the
New World order. They are the only group capable of being unhappy, unorthodox, and rebellious.
And they are definitely the only ones praised for those very things. Despite the caste system and
the belief that everyone is happy now, the elites of Huxley s book are still trying to break the
barrier. Even though they are the most privelleged people in society. They re the upper class, rich,
white men living in the lap of luxury, of Huxley s imagined

Ivan Niven s Proof Of Pi Being Irrational
Ivan Niven s Proof of Pi Being Irrational The proof of pi being irrational can be done by
contradiction. To do this, Niven first assumed that ПЂ =a / b, for relatively prime integers, a and b.
He then created a polynomial function of power 2n that depends on the constant a and b. Next,
define the polynomial for a constant integern, which Ivan Niven used in his proof:
This function f(x) has properties that are required in proving that pi is irrational. One property is
that when f(x) =0; then f(x) = f(ПЂ x) : For the polynomial n!f(x) = xn(a bx)n, the term (a bx)n can
be expanded into a new polynomial with integer coefficients ranging from power 0 to n using the
binomial theorem. Each of these terms get multiplied by the term xn. Thus, ... Show more content

Lastly, Niven showed how the integral of f(x) sin(x) cannot always be an integer for all n values.
Since sin(x) is always bounded between 0 and 1 when x is bounded between 0 and ПЂ, it can be
stated that f(x) sin(x) f(x). Niven used what he has stated before: f(x) = xn(a bx)n/n!, and showed
how that (a bx) a when x is bounded between 0 and ПЂ. From this Niven stated that must be a
smaller value than (a)n. Similarly, when x is bounded between 0 and ПЂ, the term xn must be
between 0 and ПЂn. Niven took all of these properties and functions and stated

Why Is Poe So Popular
Ever Since Edgar Allen Poe died, he has been way more popular. Poe was known as being crazy,
but great at writing short and horror stories. A lot of schools today are studying Poe 150 years
after his death, And this makes Poe famous than ever. So here are three major reasons why Poe is
still famous today.
One reason Poe is famous is because he is known as the father of short and horror story. Poe was
one of the first writers to make horror and short stories. One of his horror stories was The Tell
Tale Heart. The Tell Tale Heart is about Poe killing an old man because of the old man s eye. A
short story Poe wrote is called The Raven. The Raven is about a raven that flew into Poe s house
and said nothing but Nevermore. This is one

The Benefits Of Going To A Community College
According to Jenkins and Fink, the writers for the Community College Research Center, an
average of 38% of community colleges students transfer to a 4 year college and 42% of the
students complete a bachelor s degree within the next 6 years. Going to a community college is
very beneficial and affordable to children with high or low income. While I am taking Economics
my teacher broke down the concepts and benefits of going to a community collegeversus a
university. For example, going to Moraine Valley Community College
is about $3,570 a year for
their tuition, while the University of Illinois is around $15,686 in tution. If you go to Moraine
Valley Community College for 2 years you will only be paying about $7,140 versus going to the
University of Illinois for 2 years and paying $31,372 Your saving $24,232 dollars if you go to a
2 year college versus going the whole 4 years. If people are struggling financially this can be a
financial advantage. Some junior colleges cost less than two thousand dollars each semester for
students who attend full time and it gives students some time to prepare for a 4 year university if
they plan on taking their education further. Going to a community college helps students to set
goals and aspects for their future career they want to pursue to transfer to a university. So why
doesn t Joliet West counselors promote the idea of going to a community college?

Summary Of Ray Bradbury And Ursula Le Guin
A Convenient Society One can unknowingly suffer for the sake of society s convenience. Both
authors, Ray Bradbury and Ursula Le Guin, demonstrate the suffering that the protagonist
endures in order to serve their society. A variety of rhetorical strategies and modes contribute to
the overall role of the protagonists. Ray Bradbury uses personification and the rhetorical mode
of pathos to convey the oblivious suffering that the protagonist, the smart house , undergoes.
Ursula Le Guin utilizes diction and the rhetorical mode of pathos to demonstrate the society s
dependency on the life of a young, hopeless boy. Through the authors use of diction,
personification, and the rhetorical mode of pathos, readers can view both short stories in a new
criticism lense and juxtapose two societies that feature a suffering aspect in each story. In Ray
Bradbury s short story, August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains , the protagonist is the only
house left standing in Allendale, California after a nuclear explosion. However, the protagonist
is not an average house. The house is technologically programmed to carry out all of the tasks
and duties of an ordinary family. Although the family that lived in the house before the
explosion are no longer present, the house carries out its scheduled routine. At the beginning of
the story, Bradbury explains that memory tapes glided and chimed out the passing time while
no doors slammed, no carpets took the soft tread of rubber heels . The house has become
abandoned, yet, it continues to exercise its daily functions. Ray Bradbury also gives life to the
house in a way that it seems to be a human. The weather box on the front door sang quietly: rain,
rain, go away; rubbers, raincoats for today... is a prime example of the way Bradbury brings life
to the empty house. Another example of personification that Bradbury uses in his short story is, It
quivered at each sound, the house did. If a sparrow brushed a window, the shade snapped up. The
house is depicted to have a mind of its own. In August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains, the house
continues to function even though the family and residents of the town has suffered from the
nuclear explosion. In Ray Bradbury s August 2026:

The Submission Amy Waldman Analysis
Some people have a hard time when they lose a family member and other people are not
considerate. These people are stubborn, insensitive, and do not care. In the novel, The
Submission by Amy Waldman, is about when the Muslims attack the Twin Towers also known
as the 911. There are families that are in grief, even though it has passed two years. These
families are united when it comes to making a decision and the person that supports this group is
Claire. Claire represents the families. There is a submission that is going on to see which
drawing is going to be constructed for the memorial. The drawing that won was The Garden by
Mo. Mo is a Muslim American. After the people see the person that created this drawing, right
away they want to pick someone else or try to find a way to tell Mo that he cannot win. After this
the media and the public finds out. This causes chaos among the people and the families. The

His girlfriend even breaks up with him because of how selfish and stubborn he is. They are
having a conversation when Mo disagrees with her. Mo disagrees with mostly everyone. He
does not want to listen no anyone. When Claire has dinner with him in a restaurant, she is
waiting for a thank you from Mo. Claire is trying to put some sense to the families that what is
important is the memorial not the person that created it. Claire is defending Mo here instead of
the families (Waldman, 124 125). She announces Mo as the winner, but Mo knows that she is
expecting a thank you. Claire supports Mo even though she is getting threats that the people are
going to harm her children and her. By Claire joining sides with Mo she is being threat to be

to obtain the information. The type of research used for this article was exploratory and used a
combination of online self report Likert scale surveys as well as Path analysis. Additionally, this
article examined an alternate model was used to test a causal relationship between self compassion
and mindfulness.
Literature Review This subject is important to study for several reasons. Adolescents emotional

This article shares findings from another study, a meta analysis regarding the connection between
self compassion and psychopathology. I would be interested in looking this one up for further
review. Although mindfulness was not related to another study this article addresses, it did share
the correlation found between self compassion and connectedness. This correlation is something
that I see that can mitigate some suicidal ideation.
Research Question The main question posed by this article is whether or not skills in mindfulness
are able to help adolescents navigate the difficulties of their developmental stage (Bluth Blanton,
2014). Another question that was posed by the article was, if adolescents practice these mindful
techniques, will they become better equipped to handle negative emotions and events.
Research Hypothesis The hypothesis of this article was that adolescents would be able to develop
positive emotion well being and self compassion through the use of mindfulness (Bluth Blanton,
2014). It was theorized that self compassion and mindfulness were interdependent, and those who
practice the mindfulness techniques would be better able to develop positive self regard.
Methodology of Research According to the article, they conducted an online survey with sixty
seven urban high school adolescents. This was followed by the use of Path

Social Class And The Self
In this essay I will explore the concept of Habitus put out by Bourdieu which is one of his most
praised and referenced studies and whether is it still a useful tool in understanding the relationship
between the social class and the self. I will do this by examining the theories of social class and
examining them against Bourdieu s work.
The two main theorists on the idea of social class are Karl Marx and Max Weber. Marx based his
theory on the idea that there are only two social classes, the bourgeoisie and proletariat. The
bourgeoisie being the capitalist upper classes such as factory and business owners who exploit
and dominate the mindless proletariat (lower or working class). In bourgeois society capital is
independent and has individuality, while the living person is dependent and has no
individuality (Marx, Capital, 2015). Marx claimed that the proletariat would rise in revolution
against the bourgeoisie as they gained a class conscious. Although this did not happen due to the
fact that working classes gained more skills and created unions and labor laws in order to
protect themselves from exploitation. However, Weber built on Marx s theory and believed that
Social Class was built on more than property and wealth, Weber argued that social class is also
determined by someone s power and prestige exemplified in his book The Theory of Social and
Economic Organization . Weber linked prestige to property and wealth but also made point that
prestige can be gained

How To Amend The Second Amendment
The Second Amendment gives citizens the right to bear arms and individuals believe that this
right is being taken for granted and away from their rights, so President Obama wants to be

legislating proper ways to keep firearms out of the hands of dangerous people. We won t be able
to stop every violent act, but if there is even one thing that we can do to prevent any of these

Homo Sapiens And The Extinction
Homo sapiens Role in Neanderthal Extinction
It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one
that is most adaptable to change (Evolution Quotes). So far in the saga that is Earth humanity has
been on the winning side of change. Humans have evolved over time from simple hunter gathers to
an advanced species of builders and thinkers. Humans have built complex cities, created advanced
medicine, and even left their own plant for the moon. Despite all these remarkable achievements
humans were not the first species of Homo to expand across the globe. Before Homo sapiens
dominated the Earth, their cousins Homo Neanderthals roamed Europe and Asia hunting big game
and thriving. However, between 30,000 and 40,00 years ago the Neanderthal population began to
decrease drastically. It is unclear what caused this drastic drop in Neanderthal population, but one
leading theory points an evolutionary finger at Homo sapiens. The introduction of Homo sapiens
into the Neanderthal environment negatively affected the Neanderthal population size through
increased food completion, Homo Sapien violence, and interbreeding Homo Neanderthals were a
stocky species, which had an average height of about 5ft 5in and a large brain similar to humans.
Neanderthals were well adapted to live in the cold temperature of northern Europe, and in their
prime the Neanderthal population is estimated to be as large as 70,000 individuals (Bocquet 2013,

James Agee and Walker Evans Essay
James Agee and Walker Evans
Fortune Magazine, in July and August of 1936, sent James Agee and Walker Evans to research a
story on sharecropping. In the preface of Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, Agee describes it as a
curious piece of work. They were to produce an article on cotton tenantry in the United States, in
the form of a photographic and verbal record of the daily living and environment of an average
white family of tenant farmers, (IX). James Agee and WalkerEvans set out to write and photograph
an article for a magazine, and ended up experimenting with the form of the novel itself.

Agee and Evans set out to publish an article in Fortune Magazine, but when they brought back
their work to the editors, they were rebuked. The article was over 400 pages of controversial
writing and even various book editors refused to publish it as a novel. Finally in 1941 it was
published by Mifflin in Massachusetts after the author was forced to take out a few outlawed
words in the state. They failed in their original mission to produce an article, but undoubtedly
presented a photographic and verbal record of the average white southern tenant farmer families. By
living with three different families for four weeks, Evans depicted their innermost sorrows through
his photographs, and Agee portrayed and emboldened their spirit by his written words. The novel
itself was an experiment in form, with Evans photos all placed in the front without captions, rather
than dispersed throughout the novel. Even in the text, Agee continually stops himself mid
description and enters into a stream of consciousness describing the difficulties of articulating
accurately the tenant families true expressions. For these reasons, it was considered a failure when
it was published, but also for the same reasons it was considered an amazing success twenty years
later in the 1960s.
In the Preface, Agee conveys that this is a book only by necessity. More seriously, it is an effort in
human actuality, in which the reader is no less centrally involved than the

The Man I Killed, by Tim O Brien
We have to start treating Vietnam as a country and not a war. It ll take the old age and death of all

Masculinity In The Full Monty
The Full Monty The Full Monty, directed by Peter Cattaneo is a 1997 British comedy drama that
brings into question everything that is supposedly known to be true of traditional masculinity. This
is done largely through showing the struggle of unemployed men in Sheffield, England. Going for
the Full Monty: Comedy, Gender, and Power, an essay by Jill Marshall assists in addressing the
status quo breaks presented in the film. Marshall discusses the issues associated with masculinity
and how director Cattaneo uses his comedic artistry to bring to light these important issues. In order

associate with masculinity, some of the first adjectives to come to mind are strong, powerful,

is immediately challenged at the beginning of The Full Monty. Each of the main characters is a
male who is going through an identity crisis. Gaz, being unable to provide for his child, Dave
being uncomfortable in his body, even Lomper and Guy s sexuality. This film focuses on these
characters working through letting go of what they are expected to do and being comfortable in a
new lifestyle. This struggle of letting go of society s standards while still clutching them in a

The Taurus constellation is one of the zodiac constellations. It is a very prominent constellation in
the northern hemisphere during the winter. I chose this constellation because the Taurus is my

The Taurus constellation boarders the Auriga, Perseus, Aries, Cetus, Eridanus, Orion, and Gemini

than 3.00m. Identification of the Taurus constellation is very old, dating to the Chalcolithic era.

My Teacher As A Good Teacher
When my teacher assigned our new essay, I felt as this one might be a bit of a struggle. I was
too busy worrying about my SAT and I kept having second thoughts about what I planned to do.
Then, I remembered how terrible my school teachers were and decided why not just write about
that. Throughout my school life I ve encountered many teachers who I would consider to be bad
teachers. I find it funny how some people only become teachers, so they can get an easy paying
job. A bad teacher is someone who assigns work and sits back in their desk, one who assigns the
same type of assignment, and one who gives up because he or she can t get the students to calm
down. A teacher who just sits in his or her desk is one critical example of a bad teacher. My eight
grade math teacher would assign us work, show us one or two examples and sit back in her
desk. Often times the warm up would be what the assignment would be over, but it was only the
basics. Another one of my teachers was my sixth grade English teacher. This teacher was even
worse; all we did in class was sit and sometimes go over simple comprehension skills. On most
days he would sit on his desk and stay on his Blackberry playing Tetris, or Bridge Breaker. I m
not sure how some teachers manage to keep their job when they behave like this. Still, I was glad
I passed my Taks Test that year. I thought this would be the last of my bad teacher s experiences,

Founder s Brewing Process
During our plant tour at Founders, we noticed a number of concepts covered throughout our course
that was implemented in the companies brewing process. Forecasting demand is a crucial element
in the success of the company. This is because it provides Founders with the proper ordering
quantities for the ingredients needed in order to make their beer and meet their customer s demand.
As mentioned before, the company is growing rather quickly; so in order to create a more accurate
demand profile, the company has developed multiple methods of forecastingtheir demands. Each
product produced by Founders has its very own demand, such as their microbrews, seasonal
beers, kegs, nitro drafts, and their beers options that are sold year round. The first type of
forecasting used by Founders is the basic naive forecast. The basic naive forecasting method is
used for their more popular year round beers such as their Dirty Bastard and Solid Gold options.
They take a look at the previous month s sales and use that as their expected demand for the next
month.

to use pipes under and above the plant floor to move one part of the product to the other side of
building to make it to the next machine. This makes it very difficult to follow the process of
making beer since each step jumps to different parts of the building. Even though having a layout

A Christmas Carol Scrooge Essay
Once, Nikos Kazantzakis, a Greek writer, said, Since we cannot change reality, let us change the
eyes which see reality. Some people may think that you can only look at things in one
perspective, your own. Unfortunately, in the play A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge
believes just this. Scrooge believes that the way he looks at life, at the poor, is the right way to
look at life. He does not know that there is more than one way to look at life, most of all he
believes there is only one correct way to look at reality. He is self centered and unable to be
sympathetic and has empathy. With the help of three Christmasspirits and his dead business partner
Jacob Marley, Scrooge blossoms into a kind hearted man. Realizing what type of person he was
Scrooge is determined to change his future and become a new man and he does.
In the beginning, Scrooge was an unkind man. He did not care for others nor did he treat people
equally. When Scrooge spoke to Fred, his nephew, he was rude and ungrateful. Fred invited
Scrooge to dinner and he rudely declined. Even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and is covered in a black robe, you can t put a face or a voice on anything that doesn t exist yet.
Spirit of Christmas Future has an intent, an intent to change Scrooge. When Scrooge finally
changes his ways it s when the Spirit of Christmas Future is showing Scrooge his grave. The
spirit is pointing at the grave but then Scrooge says, Is this what will happen or what may
happen? Then, the finger starts to waver and shake, eventually, Scrooge vows to change and
become a kinder more caring man. Scrooge is a changed man the is kind and caring and even
donates turkeys to families in

  • 2. Pro Tobacco Advertising Although tobacco advertisements are banned, people still consume it. The ban started in 1971 and since then has become even more strict on the sponsoring and promotion of tobacco brand logos. Now, all tobacco ads used, dissuade users from consuming. Advertisements in general can be obnoxious and tiresome, but they are sometimes necessary for the seller to get their point across. Ads are either trying to get money from the consumer or driving to change a person s mind positively. The main reasoning for the creation of advertisements is to persuade the viewer or audience through the evocation of ethos, pathos, and logos, to have a change of mind about the product. The ads I chose are both similar, but have different goals towards their audience.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This ad has an emotional appeal to the audience, as the result of both objects is not something people really look forward to: death. Of course, nobody wants to die, its only human nature. Looking at this ad, the viewer might start questioning him or herself emotionally, thinking about the loved ones around them. In the end it will only hurt the people who care for them. A simple yet powerful logical appeal towards its audience is accomplished ambiguously or dualistically. I think it questions the viewer or smoker rationally, why they would want a slow and painful death. The viewer can choose to die quick or slow , either option, you re going to die so you might as well choose the bullet, a fast and less painful choice. But that is not what it is suggesting, it seems to be getting at the point that death by either choice is unnecessary and ignorant of the user. This type of advertisement is selfless in that it seeks to achieve satisfaction from the possibility of stopping its intended audience from smoking and nothing more. It even asks at the bottom of the picture if the individual needs help. Following up with a smokeline expresses concern for the person. In its design, the layout has a depressing background. This gloomy image is possibly representing what comes along with each deed. A glowing white font captures the viewer s eyes, but is present to sort of highlight and make it clear that the ... • 3. Principles Of Integrity In Public Administration There are three ethical principles that are the most important for officials to excel in the field of public administration. These principles are ranked below from 1 being the most important to 3 being important. Demonstrate personal integrity (1) There has not been much discussion about the code of ethics in the past administrations than in Trump Administration. Personal integrity is an asset in today s time where the political chaos runs the White House and where a hullabaloo takes place every week. The atmosphere of chaos prevails in the government and society, which causes disruptive governance to run in every level. In this presidency, there is a sense of aristocracy where the privileged class has taken over the voice of the people and only depends on those members of Congress who adhere to integrity to do what is right for the least privilege. Upbringing integrity to the best of one character brings out courage to overcome obstacles. It is not a secret that if officials who hold high positions and stand by their own decisions always fear repercussions, but with this administration, they fear dismissal. For example, the attorney general Saly Yates, who was fired after she defied the president s executive order banning people from seven Muslim majority countries entering the U.S. (Newsweek, 2017). She decided to stand by her position and she was punished for demonstrating integrity on an issue that deserves more evaluation for policy implementation. Demonstrating ... • 4. Analysis Of The Book Gates By Paul Andrews And Stephen... Choice Book Essay Recently, I read the book Gates, how Microsoft s mogul reinvented an industry and made himself the richest man in America by Paul Andrews and Stephen Manes in 1994. This was of course, during the time period when Apple was failing, and released an operating system, System 9, that nobody needed nor wanted in 1994. IBM sure wished they haven t filed those separation papers now, when Microsoftstock stormed overhead, selling out of Windows 95 in less than two days globally. Over 2 million copies in fact, and the first publically available windows that didn t run on top of MS DOS, our ancient overlord. This book told the secret life of the ruler of the entire technology industry all the way to present day. The main author is one of my favorites, since he wrote many articles on PC world, and gave a somewhat honest review of Windows Vista, of course after Microsoft fired one of their top software engineers. Stephen Manes was even mentioned on the Personal Computers columnist for the Science Times section of the New York Times, and another on InformationWeek. At this time he was even a successful editor for PC Magazine, PC/Computing, PCjr, and Net guide. Marketing Computers also ranked him as one of the top 4 influential writes about the computer industry. He also wrote over 30 books for many audiences from children to young adults, including Chicken Trek. After placing in the International Reading Association Children s Choice awards, and winning those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. J Edgar Hoover s Rise to Power J. Edgar Hoover for nearly a half of a century was and is one the most powerful officials in the Federal government. He was the head of the FBI from 1924 until his death in 1972; he was the chief law enforcement officer. With intimate knowledge of politicians and how government operations made him the man to be feared by elected officials, none of the many presidents whom he served under dared fire him. Hoover was born on January 1, 1895, in Washington D.C. He died in Washington, D.C., on May 2, 1972. Attended GW University and earned his degree in 1917. He became an assistant in 1919 to Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer in the Department of Justice. Palmer is the one that instigated the post WWI red scare this was an anti communist plaque that led to the deportation of many aliens. In charge of deportations was Hoover, he became the director of the FBI in 1924; he had a powerful force of law enforcement officers. The FBI s fame was enhanced by capturing so many gangsters, lawbreakers, and bank robbers. In my paper I am going to chat about how Hoover rose to his power and why he is one of the most corrupt government officials. He is extremely powerful; he is a famous enforcement officer that the US has ever known. Hoover started out on the bottom, with prestige and power he rocketed to the top, at the top of his reign he was the director of the FBI. Factors that helped him in his career were that he had many connections, and the power that he had a strong knowledge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The name immediately brings to mind images of a beautiful lush tropical island of enchantment. The name Puerto Rico usually does not conjure the image of Taino Indians or African slaves, yet these populations have great importance in laying the foundation for the notion of identity of Puerto Ricans. In contemporary debates of Puerto Rican identity, it is essential to examine the history of the island to determine the effects of Spanish colonialism on Puerto Rican identity. Juan Ponce de Leon, in search of gold, made the first effort to settle on the island in 1508. In the next twenty years, the Taino population became decimated while forced to labor in prospecting gold, a phase that ended in this time, succumbing to disease and a breakdown in their social network. An important implication of this initial occupation of the island by Spaniards is the imposition of the Spanish language. Because the Taino population could be counted in small amounts and Spanish had established their presence on the island by instilling their language as the only accepted language, in the name of Spain, a first storey was constructed in the notion of identity of the Puerto Rican. The Tainos had been moved out and taken over, the Spanish had moved in and started to let their culture infiltrate into that of the Taino, and now things were changing. Because the gold rush on the island lost its surge, the Spanish turned its attention to the agricultural success they could have with the island. However, as a result of their occupation, they lacked the labor force to effectively move an agricultural economy. In order to replenish the population and create a strong labor force, the Spanish took part in what others around Puerto Rico had begun to do, import cheap labor, namely African slaves. In 1953, Fahrenheit 451, a classic novel written by Ray Bradbury, was published. This novel contains two main themes: censorship and technology. Their society is so engrossed in new technology that they neglect connecting to the world and the people around them. As technology continues to advance in the modern world, these aspects become more apparent. While some people believe that the world of Fahrenheit 451 is different from the modern world, society s reliance on technology and actions regarding censorship show otherwise. Society s dependence on technology has proven to impair communication skills. In the novel, Mildred and her friends serve as a powerful example of this. One night, Mildred held a social gathering at her house, which consisted of watching movies. Montag, the novel s main character, increasingly became more distressed and pulled the TV plug. He proclaimed, Let s talk (Bradbury 271). The women s reaction to the proclamation suggests they were uncomfortable. The novel states, The woman jerked and stared (272). As Montag asks them questions about their lives, they struggle to answer. As a result of making technology the center of their lives, these women were unable to hold a simple conversation. Next, define the polynomial for a constant integern, which Ivan Niven used in his proof: This function f(x) has properties that are required in proving that pi is irrational. One property is that when f(x) =0; then f(x) = f(ПЂ x) : For the polynomial n!f(x) = xn(a bx)n, the term (a bx)n can be expanded into a new polynomial with integer coefficients ranging from power 0 to n using the binomial theorem. Both authors, Ray Bradbury and Ursula Le Guin, demonstrate the suffering that the protagonist endures in order to serve their society. A variety of rhetorical strategies and modes contribute to the overall role of the protagonists. Ray Bradbury uses personification and the rhetorical mode of pathos to convey the oblivious suffering that the protagonist, the smart house , undergoes. Ursula Le Guin utilizes diction and the rhetorical mode of pathos to demonstrate the society s dependency on the life of a young, hopeless boy. Through the authors use of diction, personification, and the rhetorical mode of pathos, readers can view both short stories in a new criticism lense and juxtapose two societies that feature a suffering aspect in each story. In Ray Bradbury s short story, August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains , the protagonist is the only house left standing in Allendale, California after a nuclear explosion. However, the protagonist is not an average house. The house is technologically programmed to carry out all of the tasks and duties of an ordinary family. Although the family that lived in the house before the explosion are no longer present, the house carries out its scheduled routine. At the beginning of the story, Bradbury explains that memory tapes glided and chimed out the passing time while no doors slammed, no carpets took the soft tread of rubber heels . The house has become abandoned, yet, it continues to exercise its daily functions. Ray Bradbury also gives life to the house in a way that it seems to be a human. The weather box on the front door sang quietly: rain, rain, go away; rubbers, raincoats for today... is a prime example of the way Bradbury brings life to the empty house. Another example of personification that Bradbury uses in his short story is, It quivered at each sound, the house did. If a sparrow brushed a window, the shade snapped up. The house is depicted to have a mind of its own. Although mindfulness was not related to another study this article addresses, it did share the correlation found between self compassion and connectedness. This correlation is something that I see that can mitigate some suicidal ideation. Research Question The main question posed by this article is whether or not skills in mindfulness are able to help adolescents navigate the difficulties of their developmental stage (Bluth Blanton, 2014). Another question that was posed by the article was, if adolescents practice these mindful techniques, will they become better equipped to handle negative emotions and events. Research Hypothesis The hypothesis of this article was that adolescents would be able to develop positive emotion well being and self compassion through the use of mindfulness (Bluth Blanton, 2014). It was theorized that self compassion and mindfulness were interdependent, and those who practice the mindfulness techniques would be better able to develop positive self regard. Methodology of Research According to the article, they conducted an online survey with sixty seven urban high school adolescents. This was followed by the use of Path ... • 28. Social Class And The Self In this essay I will explore the concept of Habitus put out by Bourdieu which is one of his most praised and referenced studies and whether is it still a useful tool in understanding the relationship between the social class and the self. I will do this by examining the theories of social class and examining them against Bourdieu s work. The two main theorists on the idea of social class are Karl Marx and Max Weber. Marx based his theory on the idea that there are only two social classes, the bourgeoisie and proletariat. The bourgeoisie being the capitalist upper classes such as factory and business owners who exploit and dominate the mindless proletariat (lower or working class). In bourgeois society capital is independent and has individuality, while the living person is dependent and has no individuality (Marx, Capital, 2015). Marx claimed that the proletariat would rise in revolution against the bourgeoisie as they gained a class conscious. Although this did not happen due to the fact that working classes gained more skills and created unions and labor laws in order to protect themselves from exploitation. However, Weber built on Marx s theory and believed that Social Class was built on more than property and wealth, Weber argued that social class is also determined by someone s power and prestige exemplified in his book The Theory of Social and Economic Organization . Weber linked prestige to property and wealth but also made point that prestige can be gained ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We won t be able to stop every violent act, but if there is even one thing that we can do to prevent any of these events, we have a deep obligation, all of us, to try. • 30. Homo Sapiens And The Extinction Homo sapiens Role in Neanderthal Extinction It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change (Evolution Quotes). So far in the saga that is Earth humanity has been on the winning side of change. Humans have evolved over time from simple hunter gathers to an advanced species of builders and thinkers. Humans have built complex cities, created advanced medicine, and even left their own plant for the moon. Despite all these remarkable achievements humans were not the first species of Homo to expand across the globe. Before Homo sapiens dominated the Earth, their cousins Homo Neanderthals roamed Europe and Asia hunting big game and thriving. However, between 30,000 and 40,00 years ago the Neanderthal population began to decrease drastically. It is unclear what caused this drastic drop in Neanderthal population, but one leading theory points an evolutionary finger at Homo sapiens. The introduction of Homo sapiens into the Neanderthal environment negatively affected the Neanderthal population size through increased food completion, Homo Sapien violence, and interbreeding Homo Neanderthals were a stocky species, which had an average height of about 5ft 5in and a large brain similar to humans. Neanderthals were well adapted to live in the cold temperature of northern Europe, and in their prime the Neanderthal population is estimated to be as large as 70,000 individuals (Bocquet 2013, 1). ... In the preface of Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, Agee describes it as a curious piece of work. They were to produce an article on cotton tenantry in the United States, in the form of a photographic and verbal record of the daily living and environment of an average white family of tenant farmers, (IX). James Agee and WalkerEvans set out to write and photograph an article for a magazine, and ended up experimenting with the form of the novel itself. Agee and Evans set out to publish an article in Fortune Magazine, but when they brought back their work to the editors, they were rebuked. The article was over 400 pages of controversial writing and even various book editors refused to publish it as a novel. Finally in 1941 it was published by Mifflin in Massachusetts after the author was forced to take out a few outlawed words in the state. They failed in their original mission to produce an article, but undoubtedly presented a photographic and verbal record of the average white southern tenant farmer families. By living with three different families for four weeks, Evans depicted their innermost sorrows through his photographs, and Agee portrayed and emboldened their spirit by his written words. The novel itself was an experiment in form, with Evans photos all placed in the front without captions, rather than dispersed throughout the novel. Even in the text, Agee continually stops himself mid description and enters into a stream of consciousness describing the difficulties of articulating accurately the tenant families true expressions. For these reasons, it was considered a failure when it was published, but also for the same reasons it was considered an amazing success twenty years later in the 1960s. In the Preface, Agee conveys that this is a book only by necessity. More seriously, it is an effort in human actuality, in which the reader is no less centrally involved than the ... I was too busy worrying about my SAT and I kept having second thoughts about what I planned to do. Then, I remembered how terrible my school teachers were and decided why not just write about that. Throughout my school life I ve encountered many teachers who I would consider to be bad teachers. I find it funny how some people only become teachers, so they can get an easy paying job. A bad teacher is someone who assigns work and sits back in their desk, one who assigns the same type of assignment, and one who gives up because he or she can t get the students to calm down. A teacher who just sits in his or her desk is one critical example of a bad teacher. My eight grade math teacher would assign us work, show us one or two examples and sit back in her desk. Often times the warm up would be what the assignment would be over, but it was only the basics. Another one of my teachers was my sixth grade English teacher. This teacher was even worse; all we did in class was sit and sometimes go over simple comprehension skills. On most days he would sit on his desk and stay on his Blackberry playing Tetris, or Bridge Breaker. I m not sure how some teachers manage to keep their job when they behave like this. Forecasting demand is a crucial element in the success of the company. This is because it provides Founders with the proper ordering quantities for the ingredients needed in order to make their beer and meet their customer s demand. As mentioned before, the company is growing rather quickly; so in order to create a more accurate demand profile, the company has developed multiple methods of forecastingtheir demands. Each product produced by Founders has its very own demand, such as their microbrews, seasonal beers, kegs, nitro drafts, and their beers options that are sold year round. The first type of forecasting used by Founders is the basic naive forecast. The basic naive forecasting method is used for their more popular year round beers such as their Dirty Bastard and Solid Gold options.
