Contemporary American Class Structure Essay
Contemporary American Class Structure
Social class is defined as people having the same social or economic status (Wordnet). In
contemporary American society, social class is based on the amount of money and property you have
and also prestige. Prestige is given to a person through the line of work or the family that they come
from. For example, upper upper class member Jennifer Lopez reeks of prestige not only because she
has millions of dollars in her bank account, but she has very expensive luxuries, cars, and houses.
There are four categories of class in contemporary American society: upper, middle, working and
lower. Of these four categories of classes, two are subdivide. These two are: upper class and the
middle class. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of this group, about 1/3rd belongs to the upper middle class. The annual income of person belonging
to this group is $70 $75,000. The jobs that the typical upper middle class person holds would have a
prestige rating of 65 or higher. 2/3rd?s of the middle class population is the lower middle class. White
collared individuals make up the majority of this class, earning anywhere from $30,000 to $60,000 a
year. Lower middle class Americans have a set standard of priorities. They take pride in the fact that
they are financially stable, and promote hard work, and press on education. Without education, the
members feel that they would not be where they are economically, and preach the importance to their
children so that they, too, can live a lifestyle very similar to that of theirs (Norton).
Working class, mostly blue collar, makes up 20% of the American population. The average annual
income is from poverty level up to $45,000. Members of this group have little to no prestige. This is
partially due to the fact that their income is solely income; they do not have investments. Education
was not always highly preached, but sports for boys were and still are. It is seen as a form of ?moving
up? for their sons (Norton).
Among all the classes, education level, wealth, income and occupation decide which class a person
belongs to (W.W. Norton, Co.). To obtain wealth, income

The Causes Of The European Colonization Of North America
The European conquest of North America was not inevitable. Small groups of Europeans claimed
large areas densely populated by hostile Indian nations. The English and Spanish faced particularly
fierce resistance from the Wampanoag and Pueblo peoples in present day New England and the
American Southwest. The Wampanoags and Pueblos both revolted against European colonization and
conquest in 1675 and 1680 due to attacks on their sovereignty, attacks on their welfare, and mass
death. The Pueblos were more successful than the Wampanoags because they gained from the revolts
while the New England Nations lost everything during King Philip s War. In both cases, Indian nations
formed the first pan indigenous, anti European alliances, and Europeans secured a beachhead in North
America King Philip s War began due to escalating Puritan attacks on Wampanoag sovereignty,
forcing the Confederacy into a war for survival. The path to war began in 1662 when the Wampanoag
Chief Metacomet rose to power. He denounced illegal Puritan seizure of Wampanoag traditional
hunting grounds. On multiple occasions, English settlers jailed Wampanoag hunters for trespassing on
ancestral Indian lands. This attack on Wampanoag sovereignty denied that Indians could have a
legitimate claim to their own territory. By accomplishing this, English colonists could declare the
Indian s authority void as an excuse to take more land. Relations soured in December of 1674 when
John Sassamon, a Christian Indian, was murdered by Wampanoags for reporting Metacomet s war
preparations to the English. Puritans arrested three Wampanoags, tried them for murder, and hanged
them. This was the first time English tried an Indian for crimes against another Indian. The trial
demonstrated that the English believed they also had authority over Metacomet s people. By using the
English courts to try an Indian on Indian murder, the Puritans again claimed the Wampanoags had no
authority, and therefore were not worthy of respect as a nation. This disrespect allowed the Puritans to
see them not as people, but as pests to be removed from their land. Beliefs such as this led to further
escalation by the Puritan leaders. Tensions rose, and Metacomet formed a coalition

Wha What Motivates Me
All of my life I was told tienes que ir a la escuela! which means in English, you have to go to school. I
was told this so I obeyed, but as a child I really didn t understand the importance of an education. All I
understood was mommy and daddy had to go work all day and I would not be able to see them until
nighttime. I did not pay attention to how food was in the refrigerator, or even where they were
employed at. All I knew was that I had to wake up in the morning and get on the big yellow bus and
go to school.
No one in my family in the past generations completed high school. Everyone was told to work to
provide for the family because back in Guatemala education was not free. What really motivated me
to attend college was wanting to become someone important. I do not want to simply work all my life
and leave not one mark on this earth. I want to be able to live comfortably and be able to travel; to be
able to say I explored the world. I lived the American Dream. I want to be part of history, where
people look back at past events and can find my name mentioned somewhere in the books. ... Show

finally become whatever I want. I can finally know what a six digit salary is! All of this motivates me
to go to college. Being able to start from the bottom, to rise to get a stable lifestyle is my

Beowulf, The Great Warrior
In the first speech, (pages 42 43; lines 260 285) Beowulf has just arrived on the beach of the Danes,
King Hrothgar s territory. An unnamed coastguard is obviously intimidated by the proportion, design,
and occupants of Beowulf s craft, yet he stops the warrior to ask his business and inquire after his
heritage. Thus, the hero of Beowulf, the great warrior himself, introduces himself to the coastguard
and in doing so, to the readers (or oral audiences of the time). Beowulf mentions his famous relatives,
including that they are, King Hygelac s hearth companions and his, noble father was known as
Edgetheow, a front fighter famous among nations... (Longman 42; lines 261 263). Beowulf is careful
in everything he mentions, whether regarding his lineage or Hrothgar, to point to the great deeds and
heroism of them, rather than himself. The warrior certainly knows how to speak with reverence and
eloquence to the watchman to gain himself and his soldiers passage into Hrothgar s hall, saying, [i]t is
with loyal and true intention that we come to seek you lord the son of Healfdene, guardian of the
people (Longman 42; lines 267 268). Beowulf continues on the acknowledge King Hrothgar s power
and flatter the coastguard s master mentioning they have a, great errand to the glorious hero, the
Shepherd of the Danes... (Longman 42 43; lines 270 271). Beowulf upholds an incredibly
distinguished bearing, maintaining composure and properly addressing the watchman along with

Carnegie Mellon and Yale; he has also accumulated three colleague degrees. In spite of the fact that
Lee works mostly in New York, Lee chose to live in Rhode Island because of the fact that he thinks it

small time theaters. Lee doesn t seem to care whether the show is on Broadway or a little theater in
providence. Lee besides being known for sets in New York City, Lee has designed the sets for Trinity
Repertory Theater in Providence, since the 1960 s. Many of Lee s coworkers, describe him as a
dedicated, imaginative designer. Lee seemingly never repeats a set, when you step into one of his sets
you are transported to somewhere else. Richard Jenkins (a former actor at Trinity) recalls a time when,
Lee went out on the stage during an intermission and torched away a cab because it blocked the view
of the actors. Lee s reputation has given him jobs all over. Lee has never sent out a resume and he
doesn t even have a PR person, being so well known people line up to hire him. Lee though has never
let this fame go to his head, he still works equally hard on each set. He doesn t even know how much
he gets paid. Lee s wife Brooke takes care of all his finances all Lee wants is a little spending money
in his pocket and he s happy. Eugene Lee has impacted the world of theater in ways most designers

FX s hit suspense series American Horror Story is continuing to become successful, despite some
lapse in ratings for the past couple of weeks. The show managed to rise above it and regain those lost
viewers. As for the critics, well the industry is basically saying, it s not that bad. The show is amazing
for the audience except for one thing, and apparently it is Lady Gaga s acting skills. She is having
anxiety issues regarding this and her doctor told her not to get off meds. The ratings of the show went
up this week according to Headline Planet and most of the viewers gained back were from 18 to 49
years old. This is definitely some good news to the series showrunner, Ryan Murphy. However, as

Summer Break Should Be Taught In School
When summer break finally approaches students want nothing more than to forget about school and
all the responsibilities that come with it. In those three months of no school students stop practicing
what is taught in school and begin to forget the information already learned. Students should be
assigned a summer reading book because it can help students to continue learning and prepare for the
upcoming school year. After the school year is over, students stop learning for the three months they
are on break. The time of constantly learning comes to a sudden halt at the end of the year and the
beginning of the summer. Reading a book over the summer break allows students to still practice
discovering new things and retaining information. They

North Dakota Pipeline Debate
Hi everyone today I m talking about the North Dakota pipeline protest. Who am I? Actually I m just a
regular environmental protester. I m here today invited by my friend Jacob to talk about what s

North Dakota? Well I ll tell you Native Americans are protesting against the company Dakota access
whose job is to build 1072 mile pipeline from North Dakota down towards the southeast. It s a simple
transport job but is receiving a huge amount of backlash since April due to its environmental issues
What are these environmental issues exactly well it has to do with the water in the area nearby the site
where they want to build their oil pipeline is the Missouri River and lake Oahe. The rivers and lakes

After a year, the most famous Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice changed the whole concept of
vampires. Vampire Chronicles featured vampires who are romantic and are the opposite of how they
were first introduced (Laming, n.d.). In the year 2005, Stephenie Meyer published the phenomenal
Twilight, the first book to the epic series that gave birth to billions of vampire addicted teens and
tweens in the 21st century. It all started when Meyer dreamt of a scene in 2003 wherein a handsome
young vampire was talking to an ordinary human girl. After having this dream, she decided to make a
story out of it. After many sleepless nights and countless instances where she wanted to give up, she
still continued on working. And all that work finally paid off when that dream finally became
Twilight. Twilight is about a story of two individuals who fell in love with each other. The difference it
makes from other love stories is that Twilight is a love story between a human and a vampire,
specifically Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. Bella Swan was just an ordinary girl, but to Edward
Cullen, she was the most exquisite thing he has ever seen in his 104 years of existence. He treated her
better than how he treated anyone else, even himself. He loved her like there is nothing else to love.
He made her his reason for living. All these were perfectly described in the book. As someone who

Masculinity And Its Impact On Society
Women freely express themselves by chatting about their insecurities and issues, but as for men, they
don t meet up and start listing their concerns. It s uncommon for men to voice their emotions and they
re heavily criticized when they do. Social platforms and the media have deeply influenced today s
generations by changing their perspectives of masculinity. Masculinity is becoming an ongoing debate
on what it means to be masculine. Masculine traits are defined as having qualities appropriate to or
usually associated with a man. These qualities include being strong, rugged, dominant, and powerful.
Social platforms and media have defined masculinity over the years to standardize the ideal male body

The accepted male type buys brand clothes, flashy cars, is heterosexual, handsome, tall, with pretty
girlfriends, athletic, and strong. These characteristics create a social rank in schools, workplaces, and
groups of friends (Phillips, 514). It is not ideal for everyone to become popular, many are outcasts and
are not accepted because they do not fit this criterion. This has created the list of outcasts male traits:
homosexual, weakling, wears glasses, unfashionable, unathletic, emotional, and no attachments with
girls whatsoever (Phillips, 513 514). The average guy spends too much time trying to meet these
unrealistic expectations and this causes a decrease in one s self esteem. These traits are often seen on
social platforms that have caused men to look at themselves and ask, Am I good enough? Do girls find
me attractive? These social norms have created unhealthy and unrealistic ideals for men. Myers
mentioned in his article that this generation of young discouraged, angry men feeling abandoned in
today s norms. Male movie stars and athletes have further influenced the masculine norms. In a male s
perspective, liking a feminine color, feminine behavior, or listening to girly music is considered to be
less manly. Males are taught to be the man of the house, strong, powerful, but sometimes they re

Who Is Martin Luther King A Good Leader
Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial
justice , said Martin Luther King Jr. on August 28, 1963. The civil rights conflict had been raging for
years. Violence from both sides, primarily the brutal force from the segregationists, had lead to a
massive conflict that broke the country. But, the man, Martin Luther King Jr. had inspired a movement
of nonviolent resistance to stand up to the oppression with peace. He was a very inspiring and good
leader. Despite the difficult circumstances, like the conditions in Birmingham and Selma only

hatred. Martin Luther King Jr s policies, rhetoric,

The Pharmacological Effect Of Antibiotics
The Pharmacological effect of antibiotics.
This practical involved the determination of susceptibility of antimicrobial agents using the Kirby
Bauer sensitivity test as well as investigating the minimal inhibitory concentration of penicillin. This
practical also demonstrated the reversal of penicillin inhibition in the presence or absence of β
lactamase.
Method A nutrient agar plate containing the test organism with attenuated enteric bacteria was
inoculated by use of a swab dipped into bacterial suspension provided. Inoculation streaks were done
on the entire plate after which the agar plate was left to dry for 5 minutes. The filter paper disc
impregnated with antibiotics was picked up by a pair of forceps, dipped in alcohol and passed through
a flame for sterilization purposes. The filter paper disc were then pressed onto the agar plate using the
forceps and incubated for 48hours at 37 degrees Celsius. The pre incubated annual radii between the
edge of the disk and the edge of the confluent were measured and the results recorded after incubation
took place.
Test tubes containing serial dilution of 1: 1000 brain heart infusion (BHI) broth attenuated with strains
of the bacteria was incubated overnight at 37 degrees Celsius. Incubation was done in the absence or
presence of increasing concentration of penicillin. 200 microliter was pipetted into the 96 well plate

Paris Vs. Helen
The story of Paris and Helen is captivating in that they both play different roles and accumulate
different levels of blame in each different retelling of the story. In some, they are the destructive
lovers, whose all consuming desire obliterates Troy and costs many great Greek warriors their lives. In
others, Helen is the victim of Aphrodite s enchantment and Paris s lust; and in some, Paris is portrayed
as a generally weak man who tries to do the right thing, and often fails miserably at it. One question
that often comes up when analyzing their relationship is: how much agency did they both characters
have over their lives and how are we meant to view their relationship and the destruction it causes.
One common thread that always is deeply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of Paris most unpleasant scenes occur when Aphrodite attempts to defend the injured Paris to
Helen after Paris flees from his battle with Menelaus: You would not think that he came from fighting
against a man; you would think he was going rather to a dance, or rested and had been dancing lately
(The Iliad, 127). Although Aphrodite intends this as a compliment, there is no doubt that this is a very
condescending view of Paris worth. Despite the fact that he has embarrassed himself and his city by
fleeing from battle like a coward, he is reduced even further to his most basic qualities: his looks. This
is very demeaning for a character who is already an outsider in his own community; additionally, Paris
life has arguably been completely dismantled by his looks. Aphrodite sees Paris through a superficial
lens because she is a goddess; she has little concept of human emotion or empathy for Paris
humiliation. She truly believes he lives a charmed life because of her and fails to see the darkness and
pain that everyone, including Paris, has suffered because of her. Paris now has to return to battle
knowing that he will never overcome the shame of failing his people and of bucking under the weight
of his cowardice, and she will never understand that burden; she doesn t have to. The other heroes all
seek glory in battle; yet Paris is still on the outside looking in, as it is clear to him that glory in battle
will never his path. It is a moment of painful clarity for

Nitrogen Cycle Lab
For the Nitrogen Cycle Lab, I, along with four other classmates, designed and created a self sustaining

elevated each tank by placing foam blocks under them. This increased the speed of the water flow.
Another good factor we included was we used tape to help loop the tubes to connect two tanks
together. The tape also prevented any tubes from shooting water upwards and out of the tank.
Although our water flow was successful in the end, we had multiple errors before we achieved a self
sustaining nitrogen cycle. One major issue that we came across was our holes were bigger than our
tubes. This created several different leaks which caused the water

offers a symbolic glimpse into American freedom. When compared, Iran and the United States differ
greatly in the establishment of religious, political, and social institutions.
The biggest contrast between Iran and the United States is the level of religious diversity practiced
within each nation. Iran s population is 99% Islamic and only 1% non Islamic ( Iranian Groups 1) .
The United States shows greater diversity with its population being 70% Christian, 23% Atheist, and
7% non Christian. ( America s Religious Landscape 3). Iran claims that it offers religious freedom, yet
those who choose to practice another faith are in danger of being denied basic civil rights and liberties
and can even be executed. Persepolis allows us to see how the Islamic faith is unwavering within Iran.

Basic Principles Of Communication
The Basic Principles of Communication Alethea Lester COM200: Interpersonal Communication
Christi Renzi October 23, 2017 The Basic Principles of Communication We will never know
everything there is to know about relationships with others or ourselves because the communication
process is complexed (Bevan sole, 2014). Communication is the main key to being successful in any
relationship, whether it is business or personal. Communication is the interaction between two or more
people who share meaning through messages that is either verbal or non verbal messages through
contexts (Bevan, J.L, Sole, K. (2014, section 1.4, para. 2). In order to become a competent

The students are medically fragile and severely handicapped. However, there is one student that the
assistant work with more and know more about. The student has seizures if he is over stimulated. The
assistant knows how to not over stimulate him. The student loves to look at lights on the ceiling,
however too much can set his seizures off. One day the teacher decides to work with the student. She
is over stimulating with the lights. The assistant is trying to tell her what she was doing was too much
for him. The teacher over talks assistant and responds before it is her turn to talk. The teacher do not
listen to the assistant. However, she keeps doing what she is doing. Before you know it, the student is
having back to back seizures and 911 has to be call because the seizure will not stop. This leads to
miscommunication because the teacher is not listening and disrespecting what the assistant is trying to
communicate to her about the student. The results of the teacher not listening to the assistant while
explaining how too much lights can over stimulate the student could make the situation uncomfortable
and cause complication with student and the assistant. One challenge or barrier that is caused by
miscommunication is misperceptions. Misperception is the broadest challenge of interpersonal
communication (Bevan, J.L., Sole, K. (2014, section 1.3, para. 12). Since the teacher was not

Arguments of Christopher Browning versus Daniel John...
Arguments of Christopher Browning versus Daniel John Goldhagen Regarding The German View of
the Holocaust
The arguments of Christopher Browning and Daniel John Goldhagen contrast greatly based on the
underlining meaning of the Holocaust to ordinary Germans. Why did ordinary citizens participate in
the process of mass murder? Christopher Browning examines the history of a battalion of the Order
Police who participated in mass shootings and deportations. He debunks the idea that these ordinary
men were simply coerced to kill but stops short of Goldhagen s simplistic thesis. Browning uncovers
the fact that Major Trapp offered at one time to excuse anyone from the task of killing who was not up
to it. Despite this offer, most of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Goldhagen argues that for centuries, nearly every German was possessed of a homicidal animus
towards Jews and thus 80 to 90 percent of Germans would have relished in the occasion to eliminate
Jews. (Goldhagen dissents from Christopher Browning s estimates that 10 20 percent of the German
police battalions refused to kill Jews as stretching the evidence ). It is one of Goldhagen s central
arguments that the police battalions were prototypical of the murderous German mind set. Goldhagen
s true distinction from Browning is to argue that German anti Semitism was not only a significant but
rather it was the sufficient condition for perpetrating the extermination of the Jews. Goldhagen
observes that if it was not for Hitler s moral authority , the vast majority of Germans never would have
contemplated the genocide against the Jews. He also argues that by the time Hitler came to power, the
model of Jews that was the basis of his anti Semitism was shared by the vast majority of Germans. To
rebuttal his claim I must ask that if anti Semitism was true to not only the Germans but also the other
European countries then why didn t a massive scale

Social Contract And The Civil Society
The social contract and the push for individuals to enter it rely on some conception of a state of nature.
Whilst the expected behaviour of persons in the state of nature differs among the social contract
theorists, the classical writings all share one common feature, a generalised potential for threat from
other persons (Dicus 2015, p. 105). However, the nature of this threat in the hypothetical state of
nature is not verifiable, as is the transition to civil society. The signing of the social contract is also not
literal, and none of the societies that the social contract theorists write from have entered into such an
agreement. The most comparable circumstance to agreeing to enter into a social contract is the period
of rebuilding society after revolution, but this relies on members of the society having the freedom to
remain an individual or join (Gough 1957). The killing of dissenting persons also suggests that
comparison is ineffective. Even so, social contract remains a popular justification of the state, albeit
declining in popularity since the 17th and 18th century, despite its hypothetical nature. Rawls attempts
to justify it by arguing that the demands of the hypothetical contract with equal and frees individuals
are the closest theorists can come to being a voluntary scheme of obedience to the law (Simmons
1999). On the other hand, William Paley (cited in Gough 1957, p.197) argues that a non factual
contract cannot be used as a foundation for any theory and

Factors of the Increasing Trend to Consume Organic Foods
There is a growing relationship between Organic Food marketers and their consumer s base. Over the
years increased food awareness has made an impact on the way consumers are choosing their food.
Awareness relating to the use of genetically modified food sources has left some consumers concerned
for their health, and they see eating organically as a positive substitute. Researchers are investigating
what other factors and marketing techniques are affecting consumer s trends for organic food. Through
the use of social media outlets some organic famer companies are starting to build an engaging
relationship with their cliental. Organic food is making its presences known in pop culture and may be
changing the tide against dirty foods.
In order for advertising to be effective for the organic food market the advertiser first must have an
understanding of the consumer needs. In today s society there is more information available for
consumers, and this is shaping their understanding of the products they are buying. According to the
Journal of Advertising this concept seems even more prevalent because of the green market for green
products and, in particular, organic food products, where exponential growth has recently been
observed. (Ioannis, Carlson, Muehling, 2014). This would account for United States sale growth of
over 400 million dollars annually with the help of over 300 certified organic products annually.
Organic marketers do not see this trend slowing down anytime

Britvic PLC was compelled in 2007 to increase with approximately 10 days the period in which credit
customers pay their liabilities, so that the impact of economic recession over the organisation s profit
was reduced by maintaining the drop in the level of sales at an acceptable level. One year later, in
2008, an 8 days decrease in his ratio was recorded, followed by a 2 days increase in 2009. As reported
by their financial statements, the debtors days ratio has been stable for the past two years, a sign of
recovery after the economic recession, but not as low as in the economic boom, characteristic for the
2005 2006 period.
The third ratio mirroring the company s efficiency is the creditors days ratio, which measures,
according to Atrill, the number of days in which the business pays its debts to suppliers. Britvic PLC s
financial statements recorded in 2009 a 20 days increase in the above mentioned ratio compared to the
2005 2008 average that had a value of 149 days. Therefore, Britvic PLC paid in 2009 its debts 169
days after the enclosure of the transactions. Taking into consideration the fact that Britvic PLC is
operating in the soft drinks industry, which has a medium pace of generating cash, it may be stated
that this ratio s value is high enough to reflect that Britvic PLC is risking the creditors goodwill. On
the other hand, the company paid its short term liabilities in approximately four months after receiving

This was one type of tendon problem: Tendonitis. De Quervain tendonitis, for instance, in the wrist.
Tendinosis
Second tendon problem that occurs invariably with athletic activity, especially when starting is
tendinosis.
It has to do simply with normal growth of tendons in the body, when they are subjected to increased
loads.
A normal process, but nonetheless painful.
How is that?
Think about growing pains in children.
If you have children or younger brothers and sisters, you know they all complain from pain, usually in
the lower extremities, during maximal growth, especially during early adolescence.
Tendons subjected to bigger loads than usual, grow in a similar way.
How does this problem manifest itself?
Deep pain, or discomfort in tendons or fasciae (Flat tendon structures).
Painful limitation of movements even is frequently associated.
So if such pain occurs after you increased tremendously your maximal load, then you don t need to
bother!
It s normal.
Sometimes, it lasts for one whole year or even 18 months.
This is again not abnormal.
And all of a sudden it

Odyssey In The Odyssey By Homer And Homer s The Odyssey
All odysseys tell the story of a great adventure; in fact the word odyssey literally defines as a heroic
adventure filled with notable events and hardships. Likewise in the epic poem The Odyssey by Homer,
Odysseus is not permitted to arrive home until he overcomes his biggest challenge, fixing his prideful
attitude. The purpose of the passage found in Book V lines 65 102, is to reinforce Odysseus image as
an epic hero and his loyalty to his family and homeland, in spite of challenges that arise that attempt to
deter him from returning home. The structure and language utilised by Homer builds up the meaning
of the passage; creating a contrast from the lush and enchanting feel of the goddess Calypso s estate,
to the grief of Odysseus being away from his homeland Ithaca and his family, including his loyal wife
Penelope. Homer inserted an array of symbolic descriptions to create the warm and luxurious mood of
Calypso s abode. At the outset of the passage Homer describes a great fire (65) blazing on the hearth.
Fire is applied by many to create a sense of warmth and comfort, and correspondingly here to depict
the welcoming nature of Calypso s place. Then as Calypso enters the passage, she smoothly glides
across the room, her golden shuttle weaving (71) in hand. Homer noted that the shuttle that Calypso
was holding was made of gold. Gold gives the reader a sense of the wealth and luxury of the goddess s
home. Again we get to sense the luxury when we read how the surrounding

Reflection On How I Learn English
This semester, you helped me learn that English isn t just about writing, that it is about learning, too.
You taught me how to write an article reflection, like the one about how sleep deprivation can cause
damage to your health. You also taught me how to annotate articles like how eating too much added
sugar may be killing you. Another thing that I learned from you this semester was the WODs. They
helped me expand my vocabulary and make my writing more interesting. An assignment we did this
year was shakespearience. If you hadn t given us this assignment, then I probably would never have
read any plays by Shakespeare. least helpful assignment was shakespearience because you never
genuinely talked about his plays in class. You said we had to read the books, but we never went over
them in class. What if we had questions about the book? You never took the time to check up on us to
see how we were doing. The best and most helpful assignment yo taught us was the one about Malala.
It genuinely helped me(and the rest of the class) understand what is happening to girls and women in
third world countries. I understand now the importance of education. People all around fight for what
we have so easily. We take for granted what we have and most of us don t know what is happening to
others. So this lesson about Malala taught me and hopefully the rest of my class to appreciate what we
have. Nothing that you taught us needs to be revisited. I understand mostly everything that has been
learned this semester, it just took me a lot of time to process it. My class last year, mostly did just
personal narratives or book reports. I just wasn t expecting you to be so hard on us, especially the first
semester. Although, you pushed my class and me to new limits, and I hope to do better the next part of
this school year.
As my teacher, I honestly think of you are a great teacher yet sometimes, you seem like you don t care
about us. For example, there was this one time in class when we were taking an assessment and when
I asked you for help, you just ignored me and looked away. Sometimes I wish you would try to help us
more on things we are struggling with instead of just not caring at all. Your strengths are that you are

Gladiatorial Contest in Rome
Gladiatorial Contest in Rome Rome was a warrior state. Since the state was a great fighting state in
their time, the wars sort of formed the gladiatorial contest in ancient Rome. The Romans were
fascinated and pleasured by violence, bloodshed, and human suffering the gladiatorial games. The
gladiatorial contests began at the reign of their first emperor Augustus to pay tribute to their warrior
traditions. The Romans built artificial battlefields within amphitheaters in cities and towns for public
entertainment. It is very obvious that gladiatorial contest were important because of the enormous size
of the amphitheaters. In A.D. 80, the Colosseum, which seated fifty thousand people, was used to

It was then when officers of the state started producing the gladiatorial shows on a regular basis as a
part of their job. Emperor Augustus restricted the gladiatorial games to two a year, limiting the
aristocrats chances to receive the peoples vote for political offices. Each of the officials were
forbidden to spend more on themselves than their associates. However, the emperor s rules were often
broken by aristocrats due to the competitiveness of political power and prestige. Animals played a part
in the gladiatorial shows also. In A.D. 108 9, Emperor Trajan gave games lasting 123 days containing
9,138 gladiators fought eleven thousand animals. In 169 B.C., sixty three African lions and leopards,
forty bears, and several elephants were murdered in a single show. Romans then started to hunt new
animals such as tigers, crocodiles, giraffes, lynxes, rhinoceros, and ostriches. Some shows involved
hundreds of animals in one show. All of the animals were killed for entertainment. Gladiators were
heroes to their culture. Even though most of the gladiators were slaves, women were attracted to them.
But gladiators were also degraded by society. They were not allowed to be buried in normal burial
grounds. Women also fought in gladiatorial games also. The women fought in the arena were men
fought. An example of women fighting was found on a small stone relief, depicting two female
gladiators, with one breast bare, called Amazon an Achillia. Sports

Neural Stack Essay
Neural stack is a type of data structure. Neural network helps in learning push and pull the neural
network by using the back propagation. There are some of the pre requisite of this understanding of
neural network in general. It is better if we understand how neural networks will help to push the stack
on sequences and pull off it in a reverse order. It is better to have a sequence to be pushed over 6
numbers by popping 6 times and pushing it over 6 times and reverse the list in correct sequence. Here,

February 2010, announcing record cash flows from 2009 operations doubling 2008 cash flows and 35
percent higher than 2004 record cash flows (Kash, 2011).
Another example of a company using the chase strategy is retailer Neiman Marcus that ramps up
temporary employment to meet an increase in holiday sales. The increased employees are utilized both
in store and in the warehouse to meet customer demand. Neiman Marcus mails out their Christmas
Book in mid September and sees a large increase in orders immediately afterward. Sales volume
begins a steep ascent that peaks in early December (Auguston, 1992). The September demand
represents 52 percent of peak shipments, and October represents 91 percent of peak shipments.
Demand in November and December are in excess of 100,000 shipments per week reaching a peak
demand volume of 28,000 orders per day translating to more than double normal sales (Auguston,
1992). Neiman Marcus meets this enormous demand shipping 90 percent of holiday sales within 1 day
and 99 percent within 2 days with 99.4 percent accuracy. Achieving these extraordinary results
requires advanced planning that includes hiring 300 additional people to work in their distribution
center during the holiday season. Twenty percent of these temporary workers return each year
(Auguston, 1992).

Essay on Teleological and Deontological Ethical Systems

An example of this would be if a person is driving down the road and sees someone stranded they
decided to stop and help with no expectations of being repaid for their kindness. A form of
Teleological system is Utilitarianism. Utilitarianism is where the good outcome is determined by the
consequences of the action. Utilitarianism believes that you should always act to produce the greatest
possible outcome of good and evil to everyone. The other five major ethical systems are Religion,
Natural Law, The Ethics of Virtue, The Ethics of Care and Egoism. To first start off Religion is the
most used source for individual ethics. Religion gives people a sense of knowing exactly what is right
and wrong because there are guidelines to religion. For example there are the Ten Commandments that
a majority of the religions use to set a standard or guideline to how they should live their life. Natural
Law has no ties to any religious figures but does have a universal set of things that are right and wrong
and close to those of the religious beliefs. Natural Law is where what is natural in the world is what
sets morality, and that what is natural is good. An example would be that humans socialize and that
leads to good deeds and that is natural and moral. Natural Law and Religion are a Deontological
system because there are some things that come naturally to humans that may look like a good act it
may have

investigations will be talked about top to bottom later with regards to pneumonic irritation with

Design Experiment
Design Experiment: Enzyme Inhibitors.
Research question: What is the effect of adding lead nitrate solution on the activity of amylase
enzyme?
Aim: To test the effect of adding nitrate solution on the activity of amylase.
Background Information:
Inhibitors are molecules which repress or prevent another molecule from engaging in a reaction. They
are substances that attach themselves onto an enzyme and reduce or prevent the enzyme s ability to
catalyse reactions. Competitive Inhibitors are inhibitors that occupy the active site of an enzyme or the
binding Site of a receptor and prevent the normal substrate or ligand from binding. An active site is a
region on the surface of an enzyme to which substrates bind and which catalyzes a chemical ... Show

This is because a greater mass of lead nitrate reduces the ability of the amylase to breakdown starch
into maltose. Therefore lead nitrate acts as a non competitive inhibitor reducing the enzyme s ability to
catalyse the reaction. Lead nitrate is non competitive because it affects the enzyme s activity even
though it is present in small quantities. The hypothesis were proven since the lead nitrate changes the
shape of the active site of the enzyme and prevents some starch molecules from binding to the active
site for catalysts. According to the results obtained from the experiment, my hypothesis is accepted
and is correct. My hypothesis was, There is an inverse relationship between the mass of lead nitrate
and the ability of amylase to convert starch into maltose. Despite the results obtained were correct and
proved that the experiment was a success a few variables emerged during the performance of the
experiment that if improved could result to a more accurate result. We didn t have enough time to do
this experiment over and over again so we didn t have enough results to compare. Another important
factor that may have influenced in our experiment was the quantity taken of the lead nitrate. We didn t
have any colorimeter so our result might not be

This angular frequency is often known as the cyclotron frequency since charged particles circulate at
this frequency in one type of accelerator named a cyclotron.
If a charged particle moves in a uniform magnetic field, with its velocity at some arbitrary angle to B,
its path is a helix. For example, if the field is in the x direction as in the figure shown below, there will
be no component of force in the x direction, and hence ax=0 and the x component of the velocity vx
remains constant. In contrast, the magnetic force qv×B causes the components vy and vz to change
with time, and therefore the resulting motion is a helix having its axis parallel to the magnetic field.
An even more interesting fact is when charged particles move in a nonuniform magnetic field. Here
the motion is rather complex. For instance, in a magnetic field that is strong at the ends and weak in
the middle, the particles will be fluctuating back and forth between the ending points, as in the figure
shown below. Anyway, this magnetic field can be generated by two current loops going in the same
direction. In this case, the charged particle will start spiraling along the magnetic field lines starting
from one end till it

African American Communities in Beloved
Thesis: Toni Morrison focuses on negative impact of slavery on the well being of African American
communities throughout her novel Beloved by depicting the damage done, its effects on individual
characters, and the renewal of community.
1. The enforcement of slavery has destroyed black communities and families 1. Families throughout
Beloved were split due to slavery 2. The community of 124 abandons its members 1. Characters are
negatively impacted by the lack of community 1. The deeds and traits of Six o compared to the rest of

Stamp Paid confronted the wickedness of having a fellow black live in a empty lonesome cellar,
another example of the pain the community inflicts upon itself. They not only alienate Sethe and her
family, but Paul D for having relations with them. The community was longing for Sethe to come on
difficult times (155 Hinson), and Paul D was only another target for the community s anger. Hajer
Ayadi theorizes here that instead of taking care of a fellow ex slave Paul D, the community once again
fails to perform its role (Ayadi, 265).
Slavery destroyed African American communities, specifically Bluestone, and the damage is evident
when Sethe takes Beloved s life. The circumstances leading to the event is most important however.
When Sethe arrived at Bluestone all mashed up and split open carrying newborn Beloved, Stamp Paid
sets out to collect to bucket fulls of blackberries (Morrison, 159). Sethe matches the buckets of fruit
with chickens, fish, turkeys, and a list of other items. The community quickly grows malice towards
Baby Suggs grand display of wealth. Too much, they thought. Where does she get it all...It made them
furious (Morrison, 161). The community was envious of how well Baby Suggs was doing. For Baby
Suggs to have so much were His [God s] powers they did not belong to an ex slave who had probably
never carried one hundred pounds to the scale...lashed by a ten year old whiteboy as God knows they

Analysis Of The Moths By Helena Maria Viramontes
For many individuals, life may seem boring and pointless throughout most of their day. They might
feel empty at times and question themselves who they really are. Although most of their time is spent
doing tasks in their everyday lives, there are those interests in which they look forward to doing.
These interests may range depending on the person. It may be watching television for some, playing
games for others, or simply spending time with your loved ones in which you enjoy and make you feel
like yourself. This was the case for the individual in The Moths by Helena Maria Viramontes. She
hated being at her house because everyone around her made her seem like she was not the typical girl,

She had a bad attitude which made things much worse as she would constantly get into trouble. Ama
would push her hair back, hand me my sweater and shoes, and tell me to go to Mama Luna s. This was
to avoid another fight and another whipping, I knew (33), this showed the narrator having to go to her
Grandma s house as a normal routine in which she had gotten used to. She would not argue with going
to her Grandmas because she enjoyed the little things she would do with her grandma. She felt a sense
of pride and full of joy when being along her side. I always felt her gray eye on me. It made me feel,
in a strange sort of way, safe and guarded and not alone. Like God was supposed to make you feel
(33). These were only things she experienced when being with her grandma. Although they would
hardly talk, she would feel happy because she knew her grandma was happy for her too. This was an
interest in which the narrator took great joy in. With things such as cooking, cleaning or running
errands for her grandma she was able to be herself and enjoy the time in which she spent there.
Although those negative comments were her major conflict, this negativity also benefitted her in a
way. If it wasn t for those fights in which she would get into, she would not spend as much time as she
liked with her grandma. With all the time spent with her Grandma, she was able to find a relationship
through cooking with her. Abuelita

The Illustrated Man the Fox and the Forest Essay
In the short story, The Fox and the Forest, from the anthology The Illustrated Man, Ray Bradbury uses
suspense and symbolism to support the theme of the story. In the story, a young couple, William and
Susan Travis, are trying to escape their past, which would be our future. They want to escape the
future because it is all industrial, with a bomb and biological war occurring and human s lives having
little value. They use time travel to go back in time to Pennsylvania as a vacation, but during their
stay, they ran away to Mexico. That s where they are hiding when the searchers find them and a high
tension capture of the couple happens. The theme of the story is, Out of the frying pan and into the
fire. Symbolism and suspense are a key ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

immaculate elbow; a fat bottle of crème de menthe, a clear bottle of vermouth, a flagon of cognac, and

Relationship Between Marcus Aurelius And Fronto
Juan Avila
Professor Anne Haeckl
Seminar 203
11 January 2017
Structured Reflection on Marcus Aurelius life Although Marcus Aurelius had many Second Sophistic
teachers during his youth, it can be noted that his relationship with Marcus Fronto was unique. From
an examination of the epistolary Marcus Aurelius in Love, the expression of appreciation, longing, and
concern between the erastes and the eromenos is evident and of great interest. In comparing the letters
exchanged between Marcus Aurelius and Fronto with Chapter One of Meditations, there is an
observable change in the manner that Marcus Aurelius articulates his thoughts and feelings for Fronto,
showing that his sentiments for his mentor have changed from great admiration to remorse. ... Show

He says, I am thankful...that I have preserved the flower of my youth, and that I did not make proof of
my virility before the proper season, but even deferred the time. The peculiarity of this line lies in the
fact that there was no proper season for having sexual intercourse in ancient Rome. Even so, Marcus
Aurelius shows that he was able to prevent himself from rushing into having intercourse with his wife.
Thus, in refraining from having a sexual relationship with his slaves and delaying his proof of virility,
Marcus Aurelius makes an indirect statement to Fronto that, unlike him, he is able to control himself

Southern Gothic Literature And Deranged Characters Essay
Southern Gothic Literature and Deranged Characters
Southern Gothic Literature is a genre that focuses on grotesque themes that involve troubled and
deranged main characters, while sometimes including elements found from the supernatural
(study.com P1). The following short stories had authors that played a tremendous role in the southern
gothic literature genre, and inspired many authors to follow their style. From necrophilia to serial
killers, southern gothic literature is a genre that is to be studied with an open mind, and also having
good grasp on studying context clues comes in handy.
The author who had one of the biggest impacts on the southern gothic community was William
Faulkner. A Rose for Emily suggests dark themes with hidden meanings beneath the text with blatant
clues that lead up to the death of her lover, and the sick things she does to him. Emily started out as a
beautiful young girl who had hopes of marrying the best man, but by the end of the story she was a
large, widowed woman with no hopes of finding a new love. Southern gothic literature focuses deep
on troubled characters. The main character, Emily Grierson, suffered from an unimaginable mental
illness. All the way deep down her family line creeped dark and eerie, disgusting and unpleasant, or
disrespectful and weird fantasies. Emily suffered from depression which caused her obsession with
necrophilia.
Emily s father abused Emily psychologically, and pushed her to the point of killing him. Emily s

Economic Growth. Economic Growth Is A Topic Constantly
Economic Growth Economic growth is a topic constantly discussed in Why Nations Fail by Daron
Acemoglu and James A. Robinson and Saving Capitalism by Robert B. Reich .The authors in both
books seem to believe that we live in a society in which economic growth is not at its finest, but there
is still hope. More detailed, Daron Acemoglu and James A. Robinson blame extractive institutions for
the slow growth because in this occasion the political and economic systems are structures in a way to
benefit the elite by extracting resources from the rest of the society . Similarly Robert B. Reich states
that those who control an increasing share of the wealth also have gained growing influence over the
rules by which the market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More detailed countries such as Zimbabwe and Sierra Leone extractive institutions pave the way to
complete state failure, by destroy the laws and the most basic economic incentives. As a result of those
political and economic institutions economic stagnation is caused and in other more extreme occasions
civil wars, famines, displacements and epidemics may occur as well. However, Daron Acemoglu and
James A. Robinson also state that even extractive institutions can create economic growth. The writers
claim that even though the extractive institutions are using the wrong means to an end, they still
encourage as much growth as possible in order to have more to extract. This growth however, can be
achieved if these institutions have at least a minimal degree of political centralization. Also such event
can only last in the short run. Another aspect both books agree on is the fact that the only solution to
this huge problem of economic stagnation is the emergence of inclusive institutions. Robert B. Reich
claims that even though in the United States extractive institutions have the upper hand, there is still
hope. He states that This vicious cycle is neither inevitable nor irreversible . He believes that inclusive
institutions have equal opportunities to succeed, and if that happens the economy then will blossom.
He believes that

  • 5. Contemporary American Class Structure Essay Contemporary American Class Structure Social class is defined as people having the same social or economic status (Wordnet). In contemporary American society, social class is based on the amount of money and property you have and also prestige. Prestige is given to a person through the line of work or the family that they come from. For example, upper upper class member Jennifer Lopez reeks of prestige not only because she has millions of dollars in her bank account, but she has very expensive luxuries, cars, and houses. There are four categories of class in contemporary American society: upper, middle, working and lower. Of these four categories of classes, two are subdivide. These two are: upper class and the middle class. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of this group, about 1/3rd belongs to the upper middle class. The annual income of person belonging to this group is $70 $75,000. The jobs that the typical upper middle class person holds would have a prestige rating of 65 or higher. 2/3rd?s of the middle class population is the lower middle class. White collared individuals make up the majority of this class, earning anywhere from $30,000 to $60,000 a year. Lower middle class Americans have a set standard of priorities. They take pride in the fact that they are financially stable, and promote hard work, and press on education. Without education, the members feel that they would not be where they are economically, and preach the importance to their children so that they, too, can live a lifestyle very similar to that of theirs (Norton). Working class, mostly blue collar, makes up 20% of the American population. The average annual income is from poverty level up to $45,000. Members of this group have little to no prestige. This is partially due to the fact that their income is solely income; they do not have investments. Education was not always highly preached, but sports for boys were and still are. It is seen as a form of ?moving up? for their sons (Norton). Among all the classes, education level, wealth, income and occupation decide which class a person belongs to (W.W. Norton, Co.). • 6. The Causes Of The European Colonization Of North America The European conquest of North America was not inevitable. Small groups of Europeans claimed large areas densely populated by hostile Indian nations. The English and Spanish faced particularly fierce resistance from the Wampanoag and Pueblo peoples in present day New England and the American Southwest. The Wampanoags and Pueblos both revolted against European colonization and conquest in 1675 and 1680 due to attacks on their sovereignty, attacks on their welfare, and mass death. The Pueblos were more successful than the Wampanoags because they gained from the revolts while the New England Nations lost everything during King Philip s War. In both cases, Indian nations formed the first pan indigenous, anti European alliances, and Europeans secured a beachhead in North America King Philip s War began due to escalating Puritan attacks on Wampanoag sovereignty, forcing the Confederacy into a war for survival. The path to war began in 1662 when the Wampanoag Chief Metacomet rose to power. He denounced illegal Puritan seizure of Wampanoag traditional hunting grounds. On multiple occasions, English settlers jailed Wampanoag hunters for trespassing on ancestral Indian lands. This attack on Wampanoag sovereignty denied that Indians could have a legitimate claim to their own territory. By accomplishing this, English colonists could declare the Indian s authority void as an excuse to take more land. Relations soured in December of 1674 when John Sassamon, a Christian Indian, was murdered by Wampanoags for reporting Metacomet s war preparations to the English. Puritans arrested three Wampanoags, tried them for murder, and hanged them. This was the first time English tried an Indian for crimes against another Indian. The trial demonstrated that the English believed they also had authority over Metacomet s people. By using the English courts to try an Indian on Indian murder, the Puritans again claimed the Wampanoags had no authority, and therefore were not worthy of respect as a nation. This disrespect allowed the Puritans to see them not as people, but as pests to be removed from their land. Beliefs such as this led to further escalation by the Puritan leaders. Tensions rose, and Metacomet formed a coalition ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Wha What Motivates Me All of my life I was told tienes que ir a la escuela! which means in English, you have to go to school. I was told this so I obeyed, but as a child I really didn t understand the importance of an education. All I understood was mommy and daddy had to go work all day and I would not be able to see them until nighttime. I did not pay attention to how food was in the refrigerator, or even where they were employed at. All I knew was that I had to wake up in the morning and get on the big yellow bus and go to school. No one in my family in the past generations completed high school. Everyone was told to work to provide for the family because back in Guatemala education was not free. What really motivated me to attend college was wanting to become someone important. I do not want to simply work all my life and leave not one mark on this earth. An unnamed coastguard is obviously intimidated by the proportion, design, and occupants of Beowulf s craft, yet he stops the warrior to ask his business and inquire after his heritage. Thus, the hero of Beowulf, the great warrior himself, introduces himself to the coastguard and in doing so, to the readers (or oral audiences of the time). Beowulf mentions his famous relatives, including that they are, King Hygelac s hearth companions and his, noble father was known as Edgetheow, a front fighter famous among nations... (Longman 42; lines 261 263). Beowulf is careful in everything he mentions, whether regarding his lineage or Hrothgar, to point to the great deeds and heroism of them, rather than himself. The warrior certainly knows how to speak with reverence and eloquence to the watchman to gain himself and his soldiers passage into Hrothgar s hall, saying, [i]t is with loyal and true intention that we come to seek you lord the son of Healfdene, guardian of the people (Longman 42; lines 267 268). Beowulf continues on the acknowledge King Hrothgar s power and flatter the coastguard s master mentioning they have a, great errand to the glorious hero, the Shepherd of the Danes... In the year 2005, Stephenie Meyer published the phenomenal Twilight, the first book to the epic series that gave birth to billions of vampire addicted teens and tweens in the 21st century. It all started when Meyer dreamt of a scene in 2003 wherein a handsome young vampire was talking to an ordinary human girl. After having this dream, she decided to make a story out of it. After many sleepless nights and countless instances where she wanted to give up, she still continued on working. And all that work finally paid off when that dream finally became Twilight. This practical involved the determination of susceptibility of antimicrobial agents using the Kirby Bauer sensitivity test as well as investigating the minimal inhibitory concentration of penicillin. This practical also demonstrated the reversal of penicillin inhibition in the presence or absence of β lactamase. Method A nutrient agar plate containing the test organism with attenuated enteric bacteria was inoculated by use of a swab dipped into bacterial suspension provided. Inoculation streaks were done on the entire plate after which the agar plate was left to dry for 5 minutes. The filter paper disc impregnated with antibiotics was picked up by a pair of forceps, dipped in alcohol and passed through a flame for sterilization purposes. The filter paper disc were then pressed onto the agar plate using the forceps and incubated for 48hours at 37 degrees Celsius. The pre incubated annual radii between the edge of the disk and the edge of the confluent were measured and the results recorded after incubation took place. Test tubes containing serial dilution of 1: 1000 brain heart infusion (BHI) broth attenuated with strains of the bacteria was incubated overnight at 37 degrees Celsius. • 18. Paris Vs. Helen The story of Paris and Helen is captivating in that they both play different roles and accumulate different levels of blame in each different retelling of the story. In some, they are the destructive lovers, whose all consuming desire obliterates Troy and costs many great Greek warriors their lives. In others, Helen is the victim of Aphrodite s enchantment and Paris s lust; and in some, Paris is portrayed as a generally weak man who tries to do the right thing, and often fails miserably at it. One question that often comes up when analyzing their relationship is: how much agency did they both characters have over their lives and how are we meant to view their relationship and the destruction it causes. One common thread that always is deeply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of Paris most unpleasant scenes occur when Aphrodite attempts to defend the injured Paris to Helen after Paris flees from his battle with Menelaus: You would not think that he came from fighting against a man; you would think he was going rather to a dance, or rested and had been dancing lately (The Iliad, 127). Although Aphrodite intends this as a compliment, there is no doubt that this is a very condescending view of Paris worth. Despite the fact that he has embarrassed himself and his city by fleeing from battle like a coward, he is reduced even further to his most basic qualities: his looks. This is very demeaning for a character who is already an outsider in his own community; additionally, Paris life has arguably been completely dismantled by his looks. Aphrodite sees Paris through a superficial lens because she is a goddess; she has little concept of human emotion or empathy for Paris humiliation. She truly believes he lives a charmed life because of her and fails to see the darkness and pain that everyone, including Paris, has suffered because of her. Paris now has to return to battle knowing that he will never overcome the shame of failing his people and of bucking under the weight of his cowardice, and she will never understand that burden; she doesn t have to. The other heroes all seek glory in battle; yet Paris is still on the outside looking in, as it is clear to him that glory in battle will never his path. It is a moment of painful clarity for ... One factor that helped us create a successful self sustaining nitrogen cycle was we elevated each tank by placing foam blocks under them. This increased the speed of the water flow. Another good factor we included was we used tape to help loop the tubes to connect two tanks together. The tape also prevented any tubes from shooting water upwards and out of the tank. Although our water flow was successful in the end, we had multiple errors before we achieved a self sustaining nitrogen cycle. One major issue that we came across was our holes were bigger than our tubes. This created several different leaks which caused the water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is the basic concept explored by Marjane Satrapi in her autobiographical graphic fiction Persepolis . Satrapi focuses on her own struggles growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution and Iran s war with Iraq. Both of these events help establish the setting and create an intensely high cultural climate. Persepolis is centered on Iran s cultural distinctions and offers a symbolic glimpse into American freedom. When compared, Iran and the United States differ greatly in the establishment of religious, political, and social institutions. The biggest contrast between Iran and the United States is the level of religious diversity practiced within each nation. Iran s population is 99% Islamic and only 1% non Islamic ( Iranian Groups 1) . The United States shows greater diversity with its population being 70% Christian, 23% Atheist, and 7% non Christian. ( America s Religious Landscape 3). Iran claims that it offers religious freedom, yet those who choose to practice another faith are in danger of being denied basic civil rights and liberties and can even be executed. Arguments of Christopher Browning versus Daniel John Goldhagen Regarding The German View of the Holocaust The arguments of Christopher Browning and Daniel John Goldhagen contrast greatly based on the underlining meaning of the Holocaust to ordinary Germans. Why did ordinary citizens participate in the process of mass murder? Christopher Browning examines the history of a battalion of the Order Police who participated in mass shootings and deportations. He debunks the idea that these ordinary men were simply coerced to kill but stops short of Goldhagen s simplistic thesis. It is one of Goldhagen s central arguments that the police battalions were prototypical of the murderous German mind set. • 27. Social Contract And The Civil Society The social contract and the push for individuals to enter it rely on some conception of a state of nature. Whilst the expected behaviour of persons in the state of nature differs among the social contract theorists, the classical writings all share one common feature, a generalised potential for threat from other persons (Dicus 2015, p. 105). However, the nature of this threat in the hypothetical state of nature is not verifiable, as is the transition to civil society. The signing of the social contract is also not literal, and none of the societies that the social contract theorists write from have entered into such an agreement. The most comparable circumstance to agreeing to enter into a social contract is the period of rebuilding society after revolution, but this relies on members of the society having the freedom to remain an individual or join (Gough 1957). The killing of dissenting persons also suggests that comparison is ineffective. Even so, social contract remains a popular justification of the state, albeit declining in popularity since the 17th and 18th century, despite its hypothetical nature. Rawls attempts to justify it by arguing that the demands of the hypothetical contract with equal and frees individuals are the closest theorists can come to being a voluntary scheme of obedience to the law (Simmons 1999). On the other hand, William Paley (cited in Gough 1957, p.197) argues that a non factual contract cannot be used as a foundation for any theory and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In today s society there is more information available for consumers, and this is shaping their understanding of the products they are buying. According to the Journal of Advertising this concept seems even more prevalent because of the green market for green products and, in particular, organic food products, where exponential growth has recently been observed. As reported by their financial statements, the debtors days ratio has been stable for the past two years, a sign of recovery after the economic recession, but not as low as in the economic boom, characteristic for the 2005 2006 period. The third ratio mirroring the company s efficiency is the creditors days ratio, which measures, according to Atrill, the number of days in which the business pays its debts to suppliers. Britvic PLC s financial statements recorded in 2009 a 20 days increase in the above mentioned ratio compared to the 2005 2008 average that had a value of 149 days. Therefore, Britvic PLC paid in 2009 its debts 169 days after the enclosure of the transactions. Taking into consideration the fact that Britvic PLC is operating in the soft drinks industry, which has a medium pace of generating cash, it may be stated that this ratio s value is high enough to reflect that Britvic PLC is risking the creditors goodwill. • 32. Odyssey In The Odyssey By Homer And Homer s The Odyssey All odysseys tell the story of a great adventure; in fact the word odyssey literally defines as a heroic adventure filled with notable events and hardships. Likewise in the epic poem The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus is not permitted to arrive home until he overcomes his biggest challenge, fixing his prideful attitude. The purpose of the passage found in Book V lines 65 102, is to reinforce Odysseus image as an epic hero and his loyalty to his family and homeland, in spite of challenges that arise that attempt to deter him from returning home. The structure and language utilised by Homer builds up the meaning of the passage; creating a contrast from the lush and enchanting feel of the goddess Calypso s estate, to the grief of Odysseus being away from his homeland Ithaca and his family, including his loyal wife Penelope. Homer inserted an array of symbolic descriptions to create the warm and luxurious mood of Calypso s abode. At the outset of the passage Homer describes a great fire (65) blazing on the hearth. Fire is applied by many to create a sense of warmth and comfort, and correspondingly here to depict the welcoming nature of Calypso s place. Then as Calypso enters the passage, she smoothly glides across the room, her golden shuttle weaving (71) in hand. Homer noted that the shuttle that Calypso was holding was made of gold. Gold gives the reader a sense of the wealth and luxury of the goddess s home. Again we get to sense the luxury when we read how the surrounding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If you hadn t given us this assignment, then I probably would never have read any plays by Shakespeare. least helpful assignment was shakespearience because you never genuinely talked about his plays in class. You said we had to read the books, but we never went over them in class. What if we had questions about the book? You never took the time to check up on us to see how we were doing. The best and most helpful assignment yo taught us was the one about Malala. It genuinely helped me(and the rest of the class) understand what is happening to girls and women in third world countries. I understand now the importance of education. People all around fight for what we have so easily. We take for granted what we have and most of us don t know what is happening to others. Unfortunately, this underwater paradise is becoming less and less of an attraction due to the destruction of them. Places such as Mexico, Australia and Florida are having shortages of income due to the lack of coral reefs. As well as the fact that industries aren t getting a steady income, marine animals are suffering too. The last major issue that affects coral reefs is pollution and the overuse of pesticides/fertilizers. You may wonder why pesticides/fertilizers can affect coral reefs but they do. The extra pesticides get absorbed into groundwater or end up in surface runoff which leads right into lakes, rivers or oceans. These pesticides get eaten by algae and enhances their growth, causing the corals to be suffocated. These pesticides are being consumed by marine life that is located near the reefs. Chase Strategy OPS571 Week 3 Learning Team Reflection Week 3 OPS/571 October 7, 2013 Stephanie Coleman Learning Team Reflection Week 3 This week a portion of our study focused on sales and operations planning. The sales and operations planning process helps companies provide better customer service, lower inventory, shorten customer lead times, stabilize production rates, and give top management a better view of the business (Chase Jacobs, 2011). Sales and operations planning evolved into aggregate planning that stresses the importance of cross functional teamwork and tightly integrated efforts between sales, distribution, logistics, operations, finance, and product development (Chase Jacobs, 2011). Another example of a company using the chase strategy is retailer Neiman Marcus that ramps up temporary employment to meet an increase in holiday sales. The increased employees are utilized both in store and in the warehouse to meet customer demand. Neiman Marcus mails out their Christmas Book in mid September and sees a large increase in orders immediately afterward. Sales volume begins a steep ascent that peaks in early December (Auguston, 1992). The September demand represents 52 percent of peak shipments, and October represents 91 percent of peak shipments. Demand in November and December are in excess of 100,000 shipments per week reaching a peak demand volume of 28,000 orders per day translating to more than double normal sales (Auguston, 1992). Neiman Marcus meets this enormous demand shipping 90 percent of holiday sales within 1 day and 99 percent within 2 days with 99.4 percent accuracy. Achieving these extraordinary results requires advanced planning that includes hiring 300 additional people to work in their distribution center during the holiday season. Twenty percent of these temporary workers return each year (Auguston, 1992). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each of the ethical systems will be discussed in a compare and contrast so that they are made clear to what they mean. There are seven major ethical systems that are either deontological systems or they are teleological systems. Teleological and Deontological Ethical Systems When looking at two separate definitions and trying to tell the differences between the two there will also be similarities that come out. An example of this would be if a person is driving down the road and sees someone stranded they decided to stop and help with no expectations of being repaid for their kindness. A form of Teleological system is Utilitarianism. Utilitarianism is where the good outcome is determined by the consequences of the action. Utilitarianism believes that you should always act to produce the greatest possible outcome of good and evil to everyone. The other five major ethical systems are Religion, Natural Law, The Ethics of Virtue, The Ethics of Care and Egoism. To first start off Religion is the most used source for individual ethics. Religion gives people a sense of knowing exactly what is right and wrong because there are guidelines to religion. For example there are the Ten Commandments that a majority of the religions use to set a standard or guideline to how they should live their life. Natural Law has no ties to any religious figures but does have a universal set of things that are right and wrong and close to those of the religious beliefs. Natural Law is where what is natural in the world is what sets morality, and that what is natural is good. An example would be that humans socialize and that leads to good deeds and that is natural and moral. Natural Law and Religion are a Deontological system because there are some things that come naturally to humans that may look like a good act it may have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aim: To test the effect of adding nitrate solution on the activity of amylase. Background Information: Inhibitors are molecules which repress or prevent another molecule from engaging in a reaction. They are substances that attach themselves onto an enzyme and reduce or prevent the enzyme s ability to catalyse reactions. Competitive Inhibitors are inhibitors that occupy the active site of an enzyme or the binding Site of a receptor and prevent the normal substrate or ligand from binding. This is because a greater mass of lead nitrate reduces the ability of the amylase to breakdown starch into maltose. Therefore lead nitrate acts as a non competitive inhibitor reducing the enzyme s ability to catalyse the reaction. Lead nitrate is non competitive because it affects the enzyme s activity even though it is present in small quantities. The hypothesis were proven since the lead nitrate changes the shape of the active site of the enzyme and prevents some starch molecules from binding to the active site for catalysts. According to the results obtained from the experiment, my hypothesis is accepted and is correct. My hypothesis was, There is an inverse relationship between the mass of lead nitrate and the ability of amylase to convert starch into maltose. This angular frequency is often known as the cyclotron frequency since charged particles circulate at this frequency in one type of accelerator named a cyclotron. If a charged particle moves in a uniform magnetic field, with its velocity at some arbitrary angle to B, its path is a helix. For example, if the field is in the x direction as in the figure shown below, there will be no component of force in the x direction, and hence ax=0 and the x component of the velocity vx remains constant. In contrast, the magnetic force qv×B causes the components vy and vz to change with time, and therefore the resulting motion is a helix having its axis parallel to the magnetic field. An even more interesting fact is when charged particles move in a nonuniform magnetic field. Here the motion is rather complex. For instance, in a magnetic field that is strong at the ends and weak in the middle, the particles will be fluctuating back and forth between the ending points, as in the figure shown below. Anyway, this magnetic field can be generated by two current loops going in the same direction. In this case, the charged particle will start spiraling along the magnetic field lines starting from one end till it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
