The Reaction Of Catalase Breaking Down Hydrogen Peroxide
PreLab Questions:
The reaction that will be taking place is Catalase breaking down hydrogen peroxide.
The enzyme in the reaction is Catalase. If another enzyme like lactase is used, no reaction would take
place because the substrate, hydrogen peroxide, wouldn t fit into the active site.
The substrate is the hydrogen peroxide
The product is H2O and O2.
The rate of reaction will be measured by timing how long it takes for the spheres of yeast to sink and
float up to the top again.
Three factors that can affect the rate of reaction are temperature, pH and the salinity.
General Procedures:
Making the yeast/sodium alginate solutions:
Hydrate the yeast packets in a beaker with 400 mL of distilled water at a 10% concentration. In a 50

Part A:
Research Question: How does the concentration of an substrate affect reaction rates?
Hypothesis: If the concentration of an substrate is increased then the time it takes for the yeast spheres
to rise will decrease because there is more substrate for the enzyme to break down, creating more
oxygen, faster.
Independent Variable: Concentration of substrate
1.5% H2O2, 0.6% H2O2, 0.3% H2O2, 0% H2O2
Dependent Variable: Amount of time it takes for the yeast spheres to rise.
Control: The temperature Experiment will be done at room temperature
Salinity All yeast spheres will be soaked in the same water, with no salt added pH The pH of the water
the yeast is soaked in is 7

Essay Comparing The Red Badge Of Courage And The Locket
The novels The Red Badge of Courage and The Locket are a very significant piece of readings. The
books tell a historic event by giving highly descriptive details and activities that would put you in a
place of where it is being held. The two readings have numerous of similarities of settings and themes.
Throughout the readings, they use symbolism to help convey the meaning of the text. However, they
do have some differences which make these two storybooks great, understanding, and easy to
distinguish.
There are varieties of similarities of setting in the novels. First, they both begin in an unknown battle
in the Civil War during the 1860s. But then the concept of nature is being used second to describe the
settings that were taking place. The Red Badge of Courage setting in nature is peaceful, but later on
the setting turns into a disturbing way of the earth. The Locke s setting characterizes nature in the
beginning of the men gathered around during the war and the second setting is how the characters are
traveling through the beautiful season of spring. In this image, it gets the readers attention and
understanding to get the warmth and feelings of the outside without physically being there.
The symbolism of Nature is used strongly throughout both storybooks. They comparison of Nature is

The Outsiders In The Outsiders And Struggle Street
An outsider is a person or people who do not fit in society in due to their appearance and/or behaviour.
Through the use of literary and film techniques, both S.E Hinton s novel The Outsiders and David
Galloway s documentary Struggle Street portray a community of marginalised people with sensitive
people. These techniques inspire empathy from the audience, encouraging the audience to view
outsiders in a different perspective. In Struggle Street and The Outsiders, both texts create a common
theme individuality amongst a gang of outsiders through the use of techniques. One of the techniques
used by Hinton to portray characters as an outsider is the use of colour. Colour is used to target the
audience s understanding of the symbolic use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Galloway and Hinton focus on the individuality of their characters. Allusion is another technique
used by Hinton to represent the unique inner worlds of characters who are ostracised by society. As
Johnny and Ponyboy stay in the church, Ponyboy introduces the novel Gone With the Wind (GWTW)
to Johnny. Through the intertextual reference of GWTW, Hinton allow the audience to apply their
connotations of the novel to a new context. Although the genre of GWTW juxtaposes with The
Outsiders, Hinton connects both text due to the fact that the stereotype of the tuff Greasers (p.15)
contrasted with Johnny s unique perception of the world since he was able to understand the meaning
of GWTW better than Ponyboy. The revelation of Johnny s character shocks Ponyboy as he stated, It
amazed me (Ponyboy) how Johnny could get more meaning out if stuff in there than I could I was
supposed to be the deep one. (p. 92). In the same manner, Galloway uses different camera shots to
represent different outcasts. Similar to the Greaser s stereotype, Mount Druitt s citizens have been
stereotyped as a nest of dole bludgers and layabouts . This statement was reinforced when the camera
was at establishing shot as it shows the amount of houses that have been destroyed by young adults.
However, the director also showed that regardless of the negative stigma, Mount Druitt will

Unit 6 Case Analysis Paul Arden Case
Paul Arden, a creative director and author, once stated If you always make the right decision, the safe
decision, the one most people make, you will be the same as everyone else. In the early summer of
2015, I was facing a decision about which deployment architecture to choose for a new product that
would launch later in the year. The safe choice was to continue using a legacy installer that was widely
used by the rest of the existing product line. However, doing so would perpetuate a cost and toll on the
service organization given that this installer was very fragile and time consuming to use. Newer
technology was available but many sources felt it was not yet mature enough for production
deployment. Additionally, several people associated with the program felt our customers may reject it
as an option. The right solution was not obvious and parties for both alternatives were very passionate
about their preferred path forward. The real question at hand was to either take the safe route or to take
on the risk of being different and potentially end ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We simply did not have the time left in this project for such activities and I was in a place where I had
to decide quickly for us to meet our deadline. I began by compiling a list of pros and cons with both
alternatives and even considered implementing both options as a fall back scenario if the new
technology was not successful. I knew that my team was not trained in the new technology stack and
we would have a few bumps in the road during implementation but I had faith in them to overcome
these setbacks. I could see the upside to the service engineering team since they would directly benefit
the most from the more modern approach. After analyzing the technical aspects of the situation, I
asked myself, If I were the customer, which option would I want to

Epipen Case Summary
The question of liability in this case is a little unclear. The problem for the DOJ is a letter dated Oct.
23, 1997 from the Medicaid Drug Rebate Program that said:
Regarding your newly purchased products, EPIPEN and EPIPEN EZ, product numbers 0301 01, 0302
01, 0303 01 and 0304 01 under labeler number 00268, I have been in contact with Mr. Herb
Gerstenzang, FDA in order to determine the Drug Category for you to use when reporting them to us.
Because these products are included in a package with a new delivery system, they are listed by the
FDA under an NDA (New Drug Application). The products themselves, however, are listed under an
ANDA (Abbreviated New Drug Application) because they are very old products and made by many
generic drug companies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If there is any doubt about just how different the latest version of the EpiPen is from the one that
Mylan acquired in 2007, then perhaps a statement from a Mylan spokesperson given in an article by
NBC News may be of interest:
As anyone who has used the product knows, the epinephrine auto injector we have in the market today
is substantially different than the one we acquired, said Mylan spokeswoman Lauren Kashtan in
statements emailed to NBC News.
In the Washington Post article:
The pattern of large, biannual price increases for EpiPen began in 2009. In an earnings call that year,
Bresch, Mylan s chief executive, told investors that the company would be introducing a new version
of EpiPen s autoinjector device, one with patent protection that would make it more difficult for a
generic competitor to enter.
...
The month that the company launched the improved product, Mylan boosted the list price of the drug
by 20 percent.
Having a new version of the drug ... you re essentially wiping the slate clean if any generic company
wants to create a generic version, they re going to have to start a lawsuit, said Jacob Sherkow, an
associate professor at New York Law School. You get to start the pricing strategy process all over
again.

Lucy And The American Dream Analysis
A close study of the way Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid and the characters of Seven react to their
encounters with the new world. Both stories are new immigrant literature and they both bring the past
experiences or events to the present. In the book The American Dream by Jim Cullen he questions if
the past is essential to your future or does it matter at all. Lucy is a story that describes a girl s
experience in the new world, throughout the story she dealt with a great deal of controversy when
having to adjust to the new world. The objective of this part of the book is Lucy compares everything
to a troubling episode that happened back at her home. One of Lucy s first days in the new world she
was excited to see sun shining her immediate thought was warm temperature which coming from a
tropical zone she was used to the type of weather. A rude awakening appeared when she felt the cold
air but the sun was still shining, But I did not know that the sun could shine and the air remain cold;
no one had ever told me (Kincaid 5). Throughout the story Lucy is unsatisfied with just about every
encounter with the new world, the first quote shows how differently Lucy sees the world. Lucy is
brought to the United States to be a babysitter to the children of Lewis and Mariah and go to school at
night. The family of the house was nice to Lucy, and she is surprised by this treatment saying that I
should regard them as my family and make myself at home (Kincaid 7). Another person

Dulce Et Decorum Est Tone Analysis
In his poem, Dulce Et Decorum Est poet Wilfred Owen utilizes horrific imagery, angry and disgusted
tones, and a contrasting title to engage readers.
Throughout the poem, Owen makes clear two major tones. Anger and Disgust. To establish this point,
the poet says Knock kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge (lines 2 3). This reveals
how the poet was angry about being in the war because he wasn t experiencing the romanticism of war
he was experiencing suffering of fighting. An additional example is when Owen adds But limped on,
blood shod. All went lame; all blind; Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots (lines 6 8). These lines
imply Owen s disgusted tone towards the war because the soldiers were worked to death. However the
title has a completely different tone. The translated title states It is sweet and fitting to die for one s
country. This is a huge contrast to the rest of the poem because all the poet describes is the horror of
being in the war, when the title puts a glorified image in your mind that serving is heroic and
honorable. For instance, Owen states My friend, you would not tell with such high zest To children
ardent for some desperate glory, the old Lie: Dulce et decorum ... Show more content on

For example, Owen conveys He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning (line 16). This constructs
an extremely horrific image in the reader s mind that helps the reader better understand the
horribleness of war by displaying a tragic event Owen experinced. Another representation of this is
when the poet states Come gargling from the froth corrupted lungs, Obscene as cancer, bitter as the
cud (lines 22 23). This additionally recreates the horrors Owen went through as a soldier in their mind.
Furthermore, the horrific imagery present in Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen assists the poet
in educating the readers that war should not be

The Christian Science Movement
Recently, Pope Francis has modernized the Roman Catholic Church by urging followers to support
scientists in preserving our environment. Pope Francis has drawn parallels between the scientific and
Christian communities, who are witnessing the convergence of their distinct approaches to reality in
the shared goal of protecting our common home, threatened as it is by ecological collapse and
consequent increase of poverty and social exclusion (Pope Francis). As the contemporary world faces
new problems, like climate change, Roman Catholic Christianity has supported the need for science as

Christian Science was founded by Mary Baker Eddy when she was inexplicably cured of her nervous
disorders while reading a biblical account where Jesus performs a miracle to heal the sick. Eddy had
seen many doctors for her nervous disorders, but none could cure her. In 1975 she published Science
and Health with Key to the Scriptures, where she defined her own Science which rejected modern
science. She discounts facts from natural science as they represent a kingdom necessarily divided
against itself, because these definitions portray law as physical, not spiritual (Eddy 118). Since natural
science is only concerned with what can be physically observed, she says the field is irrelevant due to
its ignorance of spiritual law. Eddy creates her own form of Science, which is purely spiritual. In
differentiating between Christian Science and natural science she admits the two differ but are equally
scientific since her Science is based on Truth, the Principle of all science (Eddy 124). In forming her
movement Eddy rejected the need for science and modern medicine, arguing that by praying correctly
any illness can be healed. The Christian Science has not been particularly successful in adapting to
modern science, however, the movement has gained a large following. Christian Science has gained

Using Facial Recognition Is An Invasion Of Privacy
Many people are raising the question whether using facial recognition is an invasion of privacy. The

There s no real way to conceal this data from the world . Another problem with the use of biometrics
is one of the most important one, one a person s biometrics have been compromised, and they will
always be compromised . (Aitel, 2013) Take the popular site Facebook as an example, as of August of
2015 Facebook has 1 billion active accounts. (N/A, 2015) If today if your account were to get hacked,
you would just change the password. If were to use biometrics, you would be stuck with the same
hacked biometric password for the rest of your life. Once a hacker has your face print, they can access
your name, date of birth, find every social networking account you own, and they can find you
anytime you re on the streets, even the stores you may shop at. According to Xiaoou he states I think it

Social Moderation And The Environment Of Sexism
Social Moderation and the Environment of Sexism
We have all heard of different accounts of sexism on the news; a man beating his wife, controlling
someone s actions, and objectification of women. Though how many times is it reported when
someone compliments on how someone looks, or on something that they do well? While personal
compliments can seem acceptable, it slowly erodes our gender equality and results in consequences in
our society. This damaging concept is known as benevolent sexism, as it is less socially present
compared to hostile sexism. While the majority of people know, and recognize hostile sexism and the
consequences it has on our society; benevolent sexism is not as socially noticed and treated the same
as hostile sexism. The environment that houses each type of this sexism is a serious issue in today s
society as both are commonly used, but given social moderation due to the environment that it takes
place in. We should not continue to allow the social moderation we establish amoung sexism and its
environment. Tannenbaum defines benevolent sexism as a set of connected concepts towards women
that are sexist in terms of stereotypically viewing women in their subjugated roles while leaving a
pleasant tone (208). The stealth like factor of benevolent sexism is what makes it so powerful in today
s society, as a lot of people view it as chivalrous, rather than dangerous. While being almost invisible
compared to hostile sexism, social activism for benevolent sexism is drastically decreased due to that
factor.
The effects of benevolent sexism put both male and women in a case of danger, and social impact. In
the case of danger, people need to stand for what they believe and not be subject to being put in the
position that others believe them to be. These stereotypes affecting not only women but men too.
Stereotypes for men that are the most harmful are that men are supposed to be these creatures of
power and strength. That man shouldn t show emotion, or cry because that is a sign of weakness.
While women are subjected to the idea of being delicate flowers and these mothering figures that need
a man. Although there are damaging stereotypes and social impacts, there is a very thin line between

Essay On Crebrovascular Accident
A cerebrovascular accident (CVA) is the death of brain cells due to a lack of oxygen. The brain can be
deprived oxygen either by a blockage such as a blood clot, or the rupturing of an artery. A lack of
oxygen to the brain is very dangerous and can be deadly. A hospital in Philadelphia treated 700
children in a four year timespan, and out of these 700 children, 26 suffered cerebrovascular accidents.
Research also showed that out of the 26 pediatric patients who suffered cerebrovascular accidents, 17
had a lymphoreticular malignancy, and nine had a solid tumor. There were several factors that seemed
to have a direct link to the cerebrovascular accident/stroke that these children suffered. Some of these

cerebrovascular accidents do occur in children with cancer, it s not a large percentage and probably
not a huge concern to doctors. However, the number is still high enough to worry about if your child

information in Menchú s testimony. In her testimony Rigoberta states that her father was burned alive

Felons Should Be Abolished
For centuries, criminals have been punished in ways not limited to physical incarceration. In
Babylonian times, the Code of Hammurabi guaranteed justice by ensuring the perpetrator s
punishment was commensurate to his or her crime; for example, an eye for an eye. A punishment such
as that was the cornerstone of justice because it removed what the culprit robbed from his or her
victim. In other cases, much like the one currently in place in the United States, a convicted felon is

CHAPTER 2: INDUSTRY ANALYSIS
GEICO operates in the insurance business which is regulated by the Federal Insurance Office in the
United States. The insurance industry in the United States is the largest in the world in terms of
insurance premiums, exceeding $1.2trillion. Despite this it is not in the top 10 countries of the world
in terms of the insurance premiums paid per capita of population. This indicates that there are still
unsaturated markets to be tapped which gives a huge scope of future growth.
The auto insurance industry provides products (insurance policies) which are more or less
homogeneous creating the need for differentiation which can be achieved by advertising your
company in a unique manner or identifying various target segments in the market and concentrating
your business on them. For the same reason, this industry has one of the highest advertising to sales
ratio.

Example Of Romantic Comedy

Romantic Comedy
Romantic Comedy has been around for many generations enticing the public with ideas of love and
romance in a humorous way. According to Dictionary.com Romantic Comedy is defined as, a movie
or play that deals with love in a light, humorous way. For all romantic comedies to make this happen,
they follow three simple rules. Boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back. As Brian Finnigan
from The Five Golden Rules of Romantic Comedy says, Different but the same, He wants She Wants,
turmoil, and learning curves . Although these technical terms are different, they mean the same thing.

There was not much luck.
Animal comedy came during the late 70s and 80s. Due to the lack of character growth between the
beginning and the end of the movie, these films are great for sequels. Characteristically, animal
comedy is about pigs who want to have meaningless sex with women, and due to the lack of character
change, at the end of the movie, the characters still want to have meaningless sex with women.
The most used Romantic comedy style today is Modern American Romantic Comedy. The woman is
portrayed to be equal to the man. A great example that really changed the way romantic comedy was
viewed was When Harry Met Sally. Women gave their point of view on relationships and could
express equality with men. As James Murphy from moviereal.com states, Can men and women ever
be just friends? Is it possible to move on from the one you love? Is love at first sight ever true love? Is
there just one person for everyone? Can I be a big corporate superman AND a decent human being?
Etc. These are some questions from romantic comedies that prove the point that women were viewed
differently in this film and that caused movies the future movies to change the way the portray women
and men together.
Finally, Geek Comedy began in 1998. Like animal comedy the characters start out wanting to have
meaningless sex with the opposite sex. The difference is there is a character change throughout the
storyline and by the end of the

The Challenges In Jeannette Walls s The Glass Castle
Imagine living as nomads, without any sense of a real home. In addition to that; living with a troubled
family that suffers from poor living conditions, alcoholism, and family drama. To what extent would
you go to fix your family, or even moving away from them? The book The Glass Castle portrays the
bizarre, impoverished upbringing Jeannette Walls and her siblings, Lori, Brian, and Maureen had to
endure due to her dysfunctional parents. The author of the memoir The Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls,

Welch to take care of a woman s two toddlers in Iowa for the summer. Instead, she insisted that the
woman, Mrs. Sanders, should take Lori and her payment be a bus ticket to New York City. The fact
that Jeannette easily made the decision of sacrificing her ticket for Lori amazes me; she knew how
important the trip the New York was for her, so she wanted to make that dream happen. When Lori
left, Jeannette still did not give up on her dream to go to New York and become a journalist. She
joined just about every extracurricular event at the school to gain the attention of colleges, particularly
in New York. The motivation that can be found in this is that you cannot give up on your ambitions

Bipolar Disorder And Major Depression
Mood disorders are characterized by unstable emotions, which are not always completely within the
individual s control. Mood disorders are one of the most common categories of psychological
disorders, and the two most common disorders within this category are bipolar disorder and major
depression (also known as clinical depression). These disorders often require a patient to take
medications to regulate their mood, which is often paired with psychotherapy or talk therapy. While
they are common, they are no less serious than any other psychological disorder and should be treated
as such. Major depression, also called clinical depression, is mostly identified by its significant
symptoms. Some symptoms of major depression include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mania is characterized by extreme excitement, euphoria, and hyperactivity. A person suffering from
bipolar disorder may do dangerous or extreme things during an episode of mania. The signifier for
bipolar disorder that causes many to mistake it for depression is the sudden shift, in which people
experiencing an episode of mania will have a drastic drop in mood. This drop will cause an episode of
depression, characterized by a depressed mood, low levels of activity, fatigue, and suicidal thoughts or
actions. Sometimes people experiencing bipolar disorder only have a subtle shift in their mood, or a
less alarming one. This leads people to believe that instead of experiencing bipolar disorder, they are
actually experiencing depression, as their period of mania is not in fact as hyperactive and excited as
others may experience. Treatments for clinical depression vary depending on the specific patient being
treated. Some may experience an array of antidepressants, or drugs that regulate the neurotransmitters
(noradrenaline and serotonin) discussed earlier. Most antidepressants are taken for several months, or
years, and have to be strictly regulated to promote the healthiest and most reliable treatment option.

Media Portrayal Of Violence In The Media
The risk of developing aggressive behavior is high among children who were raised in a negative
environment such as social and economic factors play a huge role. The primary place a children is in
is at home. Poverty has a significant impact on a child s social behavior these children that are raised
in poor environments have a higher risk of behavior problems. Impoverished communities have a
wide range of people living there not all the people in that neighborhood may have the same parenting
styles or teach their child to behave. Children in impoverished neighborhoods can often play with
other kids outdoors and since other children may not be raised to behave well they will bring that
behavior in their homes and begin to use it. Potential behavior that can arise from other children who
do not behave can lead to not respecting others, anger, and violence.
The media has been linked to aggressive behavior in children. The outcome of media portrayal of
violence can have lasting effects such as children can be begin to feel less sensitive to the pain and
suffering of others. Sometimes watching violence can even be enjoyable because of how the media
plays it out to be. It may be funny or no consequences or punishment to violent act committed.
Violence seems to be everywhere, on television, news, video games and especially movies this creates
a distorted view of what reality truly is. Children that watch violence on television will at some point
imitate those aggressive acts

Much of Singapore s economic success has been attributed to its status as a world class commercial

Child Development Is The Emotional, Psychological And...
Introduction
Child development is the emotional, psychological and biological changes that occur in human being.
These changes begin once the child is born and progress through the adolescent stage. the changes are
usually predictable however they are usually unique to every child and the rate of progression as well
differs from one child to another. The changes in development may be influenced by prenatal life
events and to some extent by genetic factors (Lillard et al., 2013). It is important to note that child
development is categorized into different periods, since each development period has some individual
differences.
Case study: Tom
According to case study conducted about a child by the name Tom, it was noted that child
development has certain stages. Tom was growing emotionally, mentally and physically as a child of
his age. According to his mother, Tom was born on May eighth in 2010 by cesarean section after a
normal pregnancy failed. At birth he weighed nine pounds six ounces and he was twenty four inches
long in measurement. Upon interviewing her mother, it was noted that Tom was not breast fed instead
she chose to give him formula. Tom hit all important development stages according to his mother. As
Tom progressed from toddler to preschooler, he was active and could play with toys and other
children. According to neighbor A, Tom was brighter than other children; his mother suggested that
most of his growth was occurring as it should for a child of his age.

The Theological Arguments For and Against the Ordination of Women to the Priesthood
Women should be kept silent in the churches, for they are not allowed to speak, but
should be subordinate, as even the law says . (Corinthians 14: 34 35.)
Does St.Paul give an interpretation of the culturally conditioned views of his period, or that of Jesus
Christ, the Son of God? This question emphasises the ongoing debate over women s ordination within
the Roman Catholic Church and Orthodox churches. A person ordained to act as a mediator between
God and human beings administering the sacraments and preaching is the more simplified definition

To theologically examine the arguments we have to understand the historical and theological Christ.
Jesus was the Son of God, the incarnation and human form of God. Therefore God s teachings
represent Jesus and vice versa. In Genesis 2: 18 23 God specifically made a woman out of a man,
apparently implying male supremacy. Yet Genesis 1:27 reads
God created human beings, making them to be like himself. He created them male and female.
Backed up with further passages(Galatians 3:28 and Acts 10:34) we can see the first theological belief
in equality. However this also shows that the Bible can be a questionable source for issues such as
ordination considering these Genesis passages are reasonably inconsistent. This statement of equality
can be questioned as God incarnated himself as a male, Jesus, and resulted in an important argument
to signify why only men should fulfil the requirements for Priesthood. However, it seems conservative
Catholicism may have misinterpreted the distinction God purposely made between men and women.
Catholic and Orthodox churches argue God incarnated himself as a male because when acting in the
person of Christ, must carry a natural resemblance to him. Yet God should neither be pictured in

True Art Speaks Plainly, By Theodore Dreiser
The literary movement of realism addresses material in an accurate way that is true to life, regardless
of the moral boundaries which may be broken. Several authors have undertaken efforts to define this
movement in the most accurate and concise way possible. Theodore Dreiser, in True Art Speaks
Plainly , strives to identify those components which are necessary to literature that is classified under
the realism movement. William Dean Howells s Editha is a literary work that reflects this definition of
realism. Dreiser s arguments regarding the presence of immorality in literature as a precondition for
artistic honesty find an example in the actions of the protagonist of Howells s story. Theodore Dreiser
s True Art Speaks Plainly defines realism as literature that speaks the truth regardless of its moral
substance, and this definition is observable in Howells s Editha through the corrupt motivations of the
protagonist, the critical portrayal of nation states at war, and the ugly manipulation utilized by the
protagonist.
Editha, the story s protagonist, uses weak moral arguments regarding virtue and honor to support her
selfish desire for recognition through another s sacrifice. Throughout the story, the author reveals that
she wants George to join the war effort in a selfish desire for her own personal glory. Howells writes,
But now, it flashed upon her, if he could do something worthy to have won her be a hero, her hero it

The geographic feature of this country gives the solar energy an advantage over other sources like
wind and geothermal power especially that the latter require many wires, cords, and power sources.
Solar energy is induced with the help of solar panels. These panels convert the sun s rays into
electricity by exciting electrons in silicone cells using the photons of light from the sun. In other
words, sunlight is composed of miniscule particles called photons, which radiate from the sun. As
these hit the silicone atoms of the solar panels or cells, they transfer their energy to loose electrons.
Then, solar cells need to herd these electrons into an electric current (Physics. org, n.d.).
Consequently, the solar energy needs only sun rays to become beneficial and practical for everyday
use. The solar panels installation isn t complicated at all since there is no need of wires and power
sources. This makes installing solar panels in areas where there are no power cables tremendously
easy. Having three gigantic desserts in the Saudi Arabia, the government can facilitate the

The Motifs In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
While light and darkness are recurring motifs throughout Heart of Darkness, they do not merely
facilitate a simplistic, binary examination of core themes. Rather, Conrad utilises these motifs to
explore deeper meanings, cultivating a nuanced, multidimensional narrative in which interpretations
are rarely finite, but fluid and ongoing. Thus, by ostensibly focussing on light and darkness, Conrad
unveils the spectrum of meaning between these fixed opposites; employing absolute, black and white
imagery to reveal ambiguous greys. Such ambiguities manifest in Kurtz s ever evolving

Devil Facial Tumor Disease Analysis
Devil Facial Tumor Disease (DFTD) can be recognized by lumps around the face and neck.
(Evolution.berkeley.edu, 2008),which causes starvation in 12 18 months due to feeding difficulties and
therefore death (Deakin and Belov, 2012) . This fatal disease affects only Tasmanian devils, marsupial

The Importance Of Self-Regulation In Young Children
The importance of self regulation in young children should be a common topic in the world of
teaching. The idea of self regulation is a simple one, self regulation is a mechanism enabling to control
one s impulses and, doing something that is needed (Aras, 2015). Without self regulation, students can
hardly progress to higher levels of understanding. In Selda Aras article Promoting Self Regulations in
the Early Years: Tolls of the Mind she explains that without the right set of skills students will have
difficulty learning in a classroom setting (2015). When a student enters school they are not there just
for academic purposes, they are there to learn how to interact socially and emotionally as well. If those
topics are not addressed early on in a child s life normal things can become difficult. Aras uses Lev
Vygotsky and the Tools of the Mind program to explain how best to implement self regulation in
students. This gives the impression that she believes all children should be in a Tools of the Mind
program and that might be the author s preference she does give several ideas as to further children s
self regulation skills. These ideas can be used in the average classroom, daycare or home, they are
simple changes to ideas already in place that can help children to develop better social and emotional
understanding. These ideas included focusing on the students rather than the lesson plan, having the
students help make the classroom rules, putting students in situations that they have to understand
what they have done. Implementing self regulation does not have to be difficult it can be little things
that help students understand themselves and their classmates. Another concept Aras found important
was the myths that surround self regulation and how they can adversely affect students and teachers.
As a future teacher, it is vital for me to know and understand these myths. Many of the myths I never
thought as harmful to learners, such as the idea that we need to wait for children to grow into their
maturity before they are taught more regulatory skills. Children can start developing the skills
necessary to self regulate before they fully understand the need for it. Or that some people have the
idea

An Essay About Pompeii
One time there was a city named Pompeii and one disastrous day something big happened! Pompeii
supported between 10,000 and 20,000 inhabitants at the time of its destruction( John c Hamilton 1)
The city of Pompeii was shaped irregularly because it was built on a prehistoric lava flow. Due to
Mount Everest Pompeii remains in ashes. Excavations indicate that the southwestern part of the town
was also destroyed. What happened after pompeii was everyone left and there was very few people
that left. People could hear booming
When they found pompeii they did not care anything about it and they started rebuilding pompeii .

of blood but the river is not really all blood it s the death of the Johnston Twins. The Atmosphere it
created was like death it made you feel sad and interested on what was going to happen.
The sounds that they made was a lot effective like when Sammy wanted him do the robbery and when
they ran away the music then was very effective. The music was effective when there was sad thing
going on like when the was depressed the music was put on at the right time.
The narrator always dressed in black the black that the narrator dressed represented the death of the
Johnston twins. The audience could see him but the characters on stage could not see him and he
could moved all around the stage, also explained each scene when it finished. The narrator made the
part more interacting and understanding by explaining what has happening.

Hong Kong
The region of Hong Kong, which had long been a haven for coastal pirates was occupied by the
British during the Opium War (1839 42). The colony prospered as an east west trading center, the
commercial gateway to, and distribution center for, South China. It was efficiently governed, and its
banking, insurance, and shipping services quickly became known as the most reliable in Southeast
Asia. In 1921 the British agreed to limit the fortifications of the colony, and this contributed to its easy
conquest by the Japanese. It was reoccupied by the British on Sept. 16, 1945.
After 1949, when the Communists took control of mainland China, hundreds of thousands of refugees

The crackdown in 1989 at Tiananmen Square in Beijing inspired fears that China would not respect
Hong Kong s autonomy, and in the next few years many business people left, affecting Hong Kong s
economy. In 1991, Hong Kong s first direct legislative elections were won almost entirely by liberal,
pro democracy candidates, and no pro China candidates were elected.
In 1992, Britain introduced a number of democratic measures, which were denounced by China. Talks
between the two countries proved pointless, and in 1994 Hong Kong s legislature approved further
democratic reforms in the colony still going against Chinese ideology. In the 1995 elections
prodemocracy candidates received about 60% of the popular vote. Upon Hong s return to China,
Beijing abolished the legislature set up by the British and established a provisional legislature; a chief
executive, Tung Chee hwa, was also appointed. Elections were held in 1998, with prodemocracy
parties taking 16 of the 20 directly elected seats. Hong Kong was affected by the Asian financial crisis
of 1997 98, but its economy began to rebound in 1999. In the Sept. 2000 legislative council elections,
prodemocracy parties won 15 of the 24 directly elected seats.

How Did Martin Luther King Beyond Vietnam A Time To Break...
In Beyond Vietnam A Time to Break the Silence, Martin Luther King Jr. conveys a strong stance
against the injustice and violence of the Vietnam War. He believes the Vietnam War is devastating the
hopes of the poor and brutally highlighting inequality in America; he implores the reader to take
action in the form of protest against these issues. To bolster his argument, King adroitly employs
personal anecdotes, forced teaming, and comparisons to sway his readers. King begins his deft use of
personal anecdotes with his discussion of his work in the ghettos. He narrates, ...[a deeper level of
awareness] grows out of my experience in the ghettos of the North over the last three years especially
the last three summers. As I have walked among the desperate, rejected, and angry young men, I have
told them that Molotov cocktails and rifles would not solve their problems...But they ask and
rightfully so what about Vietnam? This personal anecdote helps King s persuasiveness on several
levels. First, this story establishes his credibility as a speaker. King is out in the streets working with
young men addressing violence and injustice. These experiences provide him with a plethora of first
hand knowledge in addition to providing the reader with an example that King practices what he
preaches. On the other hand, this story helps King develop a strong sense of pathos in his piece. Many
Americans have been taught that violence is never the answer; thus, they inherently acknowledge the
truth of this statement. As King echoes this proverb to the young men, they argue What about
Vietnam? By asking this question, the reader realizes their own government is going against one of
their fundamental beliefs. This makes the reader question the morality of the war in Vietnam. Without
personal anecdotes, King s message would lose its great emotional impact. Just as persuasive as his
use of personal anecdotes are King s analogies. While discussing the detrimental effect the war in
Vietnam will have on America, King describes, If America s soul becomes totally poisoned, part of the
autopsy must read: Vietnam. In King s analogy, he refers to morality as the soul of America. The word
soul can be defined as the purest

The Cost Of The Asset
Under generally accepted accounting principles, assets both tangible and certain intangible assets that
have an estimated useful life of more than one year but not infinitely should be allocated and
depreciated, amortized or depleted. The cost of the asset needs to be determined as well as any
possible salvage or resale value estimated. The total cost of an asset needs to not only include the
purchase price of the item but also sales taxes, installation costs, freight and interest (if applicable).
Costs currently or that are incurred in the future for maintenance and repairs is only an expense and
does not change the value of the asset. Basically, all costs that were necessary to allow the asset to
become useful should be capitalized. Depreciation, amortization and depletion are acceptable methods
used under U.S. GAAP to charge the cost of an asset used in a company s day to day operations to
expense over the periods benefited systematically. Depreciation refers to prorating tangible and
intangible asset s cost less any salvage value evenly over the useful life of the asset. For an item to be
considered an asset, it must intended for operations of the business and not for resale. Useful life
should be reasonable but can vary from one asset to another from one view point to another. Estimated
useful life is the time period in which an asset is expected to contribute to usefulness to a company.
Not all assets will have salvage value. With the exception of land, all assets are

Pet Arthritis
Pets sometimes respond easily to commands of their owner. For example, consider dogs. All it takes
for your dog to do such tricks as playing dead, rolling over, or fetching a stick, is a simple word or
even a couple of claps. However, cats have no use for such a reminder. Even if it s far they can
generally find their goal. It is unfortunate that this pet human parent relationship is not equal. As close
as we might feel to our pets the bottom line is that the only way they can tell us that they are feeling
bad is through changes in their behavior.
The joint are usually affected in animal as well as human arthritis. The joints of the dog can suffer
wear and tear because of normal behavour such as walking, running and jumping. Also, the
appearance of arthritis seems to have a lot to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That s not to say that you shouldn t pay a visit to your veterinarian if you think your dog is suffering
from arthritis. Frequent visit to the vet will help detect the early onset of things like arthritis. Once it is
diagnosed as being arthritis, this helps to decide what treatment will help alleviate, or even
permanently rid the dog of this condition. Certain types of arthritis that do not get treated right at once
such as hip dysplasia need more invasive types of treatment including surgery; others are easier to
treat using painkillers or other non invasive treatments such as exercise and nutritional supplements.
Corticosteroids are also known as NSAIDs, or better known as Non steroidal anti Inflammatory drugs,
relieve arthritis pain and can be found over counter at any local drugstore or supermarket. Those
suffering from arthritis will have to change their lifestyle if they are overweight, as this weight may
burden the joints even more. Arthritic patients have been taking advantage of he dietary glucosamine
supplements offered on the market. Liquid Glucosamine is a dietary supplement which contains

Twisted Sister Transcendentalism
The song We re Not Gonna Take It by Twisted sister there are a lot of different transcendental
elements that people don t really know about hidden inside the song. In the song it shows confidence,
self reliance, individuality, and nonconformity. Twisted Sister wrote the song to stand up for yourself
and make sure you do something about it. In the song We re Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister the
lyrics say Your life is trite and jaded boring and confiscated if that s your best, your best won t do. The
point of this line is to say that stop being boring cause that isn t truly who you are and do something
and don t let anyone stop you. This quote is a example of self reliance cause you have to be the one to

The Negative Consequences Of Stereotyping
Stereotyping is to treat or classify a person, place, or thing according to a mental idea or conception.
This concept has been inherited every generation throughout life. Everyone knows right from wrong,
but when stereotyping comes into play, it s acceptable. Stereotyping negatively affects the lives of
those who judge along with those who are judged. Within a couple readings and videos portraying
stereotypes, I have begun to realize why people continue to assort things into groups. My outcome is
that people judge directly off what they see, then they begin to understand the truth to it.
To begin with, the reason we continue to use stereotypes are to make one feel better about themselves.
One person s thoughts has the power to influence anyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, in the film Crash, a newbie cop who meant no harm towards black people or anyone in
general ends up killing one in cold blood. This occurred because of his experiences with his partner
who illegally treated civilians without respect only because of the color of their skin. Due to his acts,
the new cop, off patrol, shot a black hitchhiker when pulling out a christian figurine from his pocket
thinking it was a firearm. Stereotyping is mainly influential. Imagine growing up without hearing
certain people are bad or stink or are smart even. Stereotypes aren t always bad, but they still criticize
all aspects of people. Influential judgement continues thus, giving a nickname to all walks of life. The
film Crash shows that most forms of stereotypes are based upon discrimination among diverse races.
To sum up, diversity plays a big role within stereotyping. If one does not look, talk, or walk like the
rest, they are poorly judged and treated without morality. Furthermore, prejudism has caused much
distrust in all neighborhoods in the world as we can see from the above authors and the film, Crash.
Stereotyping has formed many other types of inequal prejudism amongst all ages that are very difficult
to take back. From this, many mishaps have occurred from judging, however we still go through life

  • 2. The Reaction Of Catalase Breaking Down Hydrogen Peroxide PreLab Questions: The reaction that will be taking place is Catalase breaking down hydrogen peroxide. The enzyme in the reaction is Catalase. If another enzyme like lactase is used, no reaction would take place because the substrate, hydrogen peroxide, wouldn t fit into the active site. The substrate is the hydrogen peroxide The product is H2O and O2. The rate of reaction will be measured by timing how long it takes for the spheres of yeast to sink and float up to the top again. Three factors that can affect the rate of reaction are temperature, pH and the salinity. General Procedures: Making the yeast/sodium alginate solutions: Hydrate the yeast packets in a beaker with 400 mL of distilled water at a 10% concentration. In a 50 mL ... • 4. Essay Comparing The Red Badge Of Courage And The Locket The novels The Red Badge of Courage and The Locket are a very significant piece of readings. The books tell a historic event by giving highly descriptive details and activities that would put you in a place of where it is being held. The two readings have numerous of similarities of settings and themes. Throughout the readings, they use symbolism to help convey the meaning of the text. However, they do have some differences which make these two storybooks great, understanding, and easy to distinguish. There are varieties of similarities of setting in the novels. First, they both begin in an unknown battle in the Civil War during the 1860s. But then the concept of nature is being used second to describe the settings that were taking place. The Red Badge of Courage setting in nature is peaceful, but later on the setting turns into a disturbing way of the earth. The Locke s setting characterizes nature in the beginning of the men gathered around during the war and the second setting is how the characters are traveling through the beautiful season of spring. In this image, it gets the readers attention and understanding to get the warmth and feelings of the outside without physically being there. The symbolism of Nature is used strongly throughout both storybooks. They comparison of Nature is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. The Outsiders In The Outsiders And Struggle Street An outsider is a person or people who do not fit in society in due to their appearance and/or behaviour. Through the use of literary and film techniques, both S.E Hinton s novel The Outsiders and David Galloway s documentary Struggle Street portray a community of marginalised people with sensitive people. These techniques inspire empathy from the audience, encouraging the audience to view outsiders in a different perspective. In Struggle Street and The Outsiders, both texts create a common theme individuality amongst a gang of outsiders through the use of techniques. One of the techniques used by Hinton to portray characters as an outsider is the use of colour. Colour is used to target the audience s understanding of the symbolic use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both Galloway and Hinton focus on the individuality of their characters. Allusion is another technique used by Hinton to represent the unique inner worlds of characters who are ostracised by society. As Johnny and Ponyboy stay in the church, Ponyboy introduces the novel Gone With the Wind (GWTW) to Johnny. Through the intertextual reference of GWTW, Hinton allow the audience to apply their connotations of the novel to a new context. Although the genre of GWTW juxtaposes with The Outsiders, Hinton connects both text due to the fact that the stereotype of the tuff Greasers (p.15) contrasted with Johnny s unique perception of the world since he was able to understand the meaning of GWTW better than Ponyboy. The revelation of Johnny s character shocks Ponyboy as he stated, It amazed me (Ponyboy) how Johnny could get more meaning out if stuff in there than I could I was supposed to be the deep one. (p. 92). In the same manner, Galloway uses different camera shots to represent different outcasts. Similar to the Greaser s stereotype, Mount Druitt s citizens have been stereotyped as a nest of dole bludgers and layabouts . This statement was reinforced when the camera was at establishing shot as it shows the amount of houses that have been destroyed by young adults. However, the director also showed that regardless of the negative stigma, Mount Druitt will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unit 6 Case Analysis Paul Arden Case Paul Arden, a creative director and author, once stated If you always make the right decision, the safe decision, the one most people make, you will be the same as everyone else. In the early summer of 2015, I was facing a decision about which deployment architecture to choose for a new product that would launch later in the year. The safe choice was to continue using a legacy installer that was widely used by the rest of the existing product line. However, doing so would perpetuate a cost and toll on the service organization given that this installer was very fragile and time consuming to use. Newer technology was available but many sources felt it was not yet mature enough for production deployment. Additionally, several people associated with the program felt our customers may reject it as an option. The right solution was not obvious and parties for both alternatives were very passionate about their preferred path forward. I knew that my team was not trained in the new technology stack and we would have a few bumps in the road during implementation but I had faith in them to overcome these setbacks. I could see the upside to the service engineering team since they would directly benefit the most from the more modern approach. • 9. Lucy And The American Dream Analysis A close study of the way Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid and the characters of Seven react to their encounters with the new world. Both stories are new immigrant literature and they both bring the past experiences or events to the present. In the book The American Dream by Jim Cullen he questions if the past is essential to your future or does it matter at all. Lucy is a story that describes a girl s experience in the new world, throughout the story she dealt with a great deal of controversy when having to adjust to the new world. The objective of this part of the book is Lucy compares everything to a troubling episode that happened back at her home. One of Lucy s first days in the new world she was excited to see sun shining her immediate thought was warm temperature which coming from a tropical zone she was used to the type of weather. • 10. Dulce Et Decorum Est Tone Analysis In his poem, Dulce Et Decorum Est poet Wilfred Owen utilizes horrific imagery, angry and disgusted tones, and a contrasting title to engage readers. Throughout the poem, Owen makes clear two major tones. Anger and Disgust. To establish this point, the poet says Knock kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge (lines 2 3). This reveals how the poet was angry about being in the war because he wasn t experiencing the romanticism of war he was experiencing suffering of fighting. An additional example is when Owen adds But limped on, blood shod. All went lame; all blind; Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots (lines 6 8). These lines imply Owen s disgusted tone towards the war because the soldiers were worked to death. However the title has a completely different tone. The translated title states It is sweet and fitting to die for one s country. This is a huge contrast to the rest of the poem because all the poet describes is the horror of being in the war, when the title puts a glorified image in your mind that serving is heroic and honorable. For instance, Owen states My friend, you would not tell with such high zest To children ardent for some desperate glory, the old Lie: Dulce et decorum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This additionally recreates the horrors Owen went through as a soldier in their mind. She discounts facts from natural science as they represent a kingdom necessarily divided against itself, because these definitions portray law as physical, not spiritual (Eddy 118). Since natural science is only concerned with what can be physically observed, she says the field is irrelevant due to its ignorance of spiritual law. Eddy creates her own form of Science, which is purely spiritual. In differentiating between Christian Science and natural science she admits the two differ but are equally scientific since her Science is based on Truth, the Principle of all science (Eddy 124). In forming her movement Eddy rejected the need for science and modern medicine, arguing that by praying correctly any illness can be healed. (Counter, P. 2014) It s crucial to think before we go ahead with mass marketing and produce the biometric systems is how often people bare their biometrics to the word. According to Dave Aitel There s no real way to conceal this data from the world . Another problem with the use of biometrics is one of the most important one, one a person s biometrics have been compromised, and they will always be compromised . (N/A, 2015) If today if your account were to get hacked, you would just change the password. If were to use biometrics, you would be stuck with the same hacked biometric password for the rest of your life. Once a hacker has your face print, they can access your name, date of birth, find every social networking account you own, and they can find you anytime you re on the streets, even the stores you may shop at. Though how many times is it reported when someone compliments on how someone looks, or on something that they do well? While personal compliments can seem acceptable, it slowly erodes our gender equality and results in consequences in our society. This damaging concept is known as benevolent sexism, as it is less socially present compared to hostile sexism. While the majority of people know, and recognize hostile sexism and the consequences it has on our society; benevolent sexism is not as socially noticed and treated the same as hostile sexism. The environment that houses each type of this sexism is a serious issue in today s society as both are commonly used, but given social moderation due to the environment that it takes place in. We should not continue to allow the social moderation we establish amoung sexism and its environment. Tannenbaum defines benevolent sexism as a set of connected concepts towards women that are sexist in terms of stereotypically viewing women in their subjugated roles while leaving a pleasant tone (208). The stealth like factor of benevolent sexism is what makes it so powerful in today s society, as a lot of people view it as chivalrous, rather than dangerous. While being almost invisible compared to hostile sexism, social activism for benevolent sexism is drastically decreased due to that factor. The effects of benevolent sexism put both male and women in a case of danger, and social impact. In the case of danger, people need to stand for what they believe and not be subject to being put in the position that others believe them to be. These stereotypes affecting not only women but men too. Stereotypes for men that are the most harmful are that men are supposed to be these creatures of power and strength. That man shouldn t show emotion, or cry because that is a sign of weakness. While women are subjected to the idea of being delicate flowers and these mothering figures that need a man. The brain can be deprived oxygen either by a blockage such as a blood clot, or the rupturing of an artery. A lack of oxygen to the brain is very dangerous and can be deadly. A hospital in Philadelphia treated 700 children in a four year timespan, and out of these 700 children, 26 suffered cerebrovascular accidents. Research also showed that out of the 26 pediatric patients who suffered cerebrovascular accidents, 17 had a lymphoreticular malignancy, and nine had a solid tumor. After reading the article it seems that although cerebrovascular accidents do occur in children with cancer, it s not a large percentage and probably not a huge concern to doctors. However, the number is still high enough to worry about if your child was suffering from cancer. There is not enough information to determine if all factors are truly responsible for the cerebrovascular accidents, however I do believe the link between the chemotherapy seems to be the strongest one since the pediatric patients died from a cerebrovascular accident while receiving their treatments. For this reason, I believe there should be more research to find out which chemotherapeutic drugs are more likely to cause a cerebrovascular accidents, and if anything can be done before the treatments begin to prevent the cerebrovascular accidents from ... (Evolution.berkeley.edu, 2008),which causes starvation in 12 18 months due to feeding difficulties and therefore death (Deakin and Belov, 2012) . This fatal disease affects only Tasmanian devils, marsupial carnivores of Tasmania. Scientists reported that devils may be responding to DFTD by breeding earlier before the disease kills them, which could help the species survive longer (Hamede, McCallum and Jones, 2012). DFTD spreads due to biting between animals during mating or feeding. The cancer cells themselves are the infective agent, as opposed to a transmissible virus that leads to Tumor formation. in the case of the devils (Pearse et al., 2012), the genes that could differentiate between own and foreign cells are so similar between the cancer and host, that the devil s immune system does not identify the cancer, ... • 40. The Importance Of Self-Regulation In Young Children The importance of self regulation in young children should be a common topic in the world of teaching. The idea of self regulation is a simple one, self regulation is a mechanism enabling to control one s impulses and, doing something that is needed (Aras, 2015). Without self regulation, students can hardly progress to higher levels of understanding. In Selda Aras article Promoting Self Regulations in the Early Years: Tolls of the Mind she explains that without the right set of skills students will have difficulty learning in a classroom setting (2015). When a student enters school they are not there just for academic purposes, they are there to learn how to interact socially and emotionally as well. If those topics are not addressed early on in a child s life normal things can become difficult. Aras uses Lev Vygotsky and the Tools of the Mind program to explain how best to implement self regulation in students. This gives the impression that she believes all children should be in a Tools of the Mind program and that might be the author s preference she does give several ideas as to further children s self regulation skills. These ideas can be used in the average classroom, daycare or home, they are simple changes to ideas already in place that can help children to develop better social and emotional understanding. These ideas included focusing on the students rather than the lesson plan, having the students help make the classroom rules, putting students in situations that they have to understand what they have done. Implementing self regulation does not have to be difficult it can be little things that help students understand themselves and their classmates. Another concept Aras found important was the myths that surround self regulation and how they can adversely affect students and teachers. As a future teacher, it is vital for me to know and understand these myths. Many of the myths I never thought as harmful to learners, such as the idea that we need to wait for children to grow into their maturity before they are taught more regulatory skills. Children can start developing the skills necessary to self regulate before they fully understand the need for it. Or that some people have the idea ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. How Did Martin Luther King Beyond Vietnam A Time To Break... In Beyond Vietnam A Time to Break the Silence, Martin Luther King Jr. conveys a strong stance against the injustice and violence of the Vietnam War. He believes the Vietnam War is devastating the hopes of the poor and brutally highlighting inequality in America; he implores the reader to take action in the form of protest against these issues. To bolster his argument, King adroitly employs personal anecdotes, forced teaming, and comparisons to sway his readers. King begins his deft use of personal anecdotes with his discussion of his work in the ghettos. He narrates, ...[a deeper level of awareness] grows out of my experience in the ghettos of the North over the last three years especially the last three summers. As I have walked among the desperate, rejected, and angry young men, I have told them that Molotov cocktails and rifles would not solve their problems...But they ask and rightfully so what about Vietnam? This personal anecdote helps King s persuasiveness on several levels. First, this story establishes his credibility as a speaker. King is out in the streets working with young men addressing violence and injustice. These experiences provide him with a plethora of first hand knowledge in addition to providing the reader with an example that King practices what he preaches. On the other hand, this story helps King develop a strong sense of pathos in his piece. Many Americans have been taught that violence is never the answer; thus, they inherently acknowledge the truth of this statement. As King echoes this proverb to the young men, they argue What about Vietnam? By asking this question, the reader realizes their own government is going against one of their fundamental beliefs. This makes the reader question the morality of the war in Vietnam. Without personal anecdotes, King s message would lose its great emotional impact. Just as persuasive as his use of personal anecdotes are King s analogies. While discussing the detrimental effect the war in Vietnam will have on America, King describes, If America s soul becomes totally poisoned, part of the autopsy must read: Vietnam. In King s analogy, he refers to morality as the soul of America. The word soul can be defined as the purest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Cost Of The Asset Under generally accepted accounting principles, assets both tangible and certain intangible assets that have an estimated useful life of more than one year but not infinitely should be allocated and depreciated, amortized or depleted. The cost of the asset needs to be determined as well as any possible salvage or resale value estimated. The total cost of an asset needs to not only include the purchase price of the item but also sales taxes, installation costs, freight and interest (if applicable). Costs currently or that are incurred in the future for maintenance and repairs is only an expense and does not change the value of the asset. Basically, all costs that were necessary to allow the asset to become useful should be capitalized. Depreciation, amortization and depletion are acceptable methods used under U.S. GAAP to charge the cost of an asset used in a company s day to day operations to expense over the periods benefited systematically. Depreciation refers to prorating tangible and intangible asset s cost less any salvage value evenly over the useful life of the asset. For an item to be considered an asset, it must intended for operations of the business and not for resale. Useful life should be reasonable but can vary from one asset to another from one view point to another. Estimated useful life is the time period in which an asset is expected to contribute to usefulness to a company. Not all assets will have salvage value. With the exception of land, all assets are ... This concept has been inherited every generation throughout life. Everyone knows right from wrong, but when stereotyping comes into play, it s acceptable. Stereotyping negatively affects the lives of those who judge along with those who are judged. Within a couple readings and videos portraying stereotypes, I have begun to realize why people continue to assort things into groups. My outcome is that people judge directly off what they see, then they begin to understand the truth to it. To begin with, the reason we continue to use stereotypes are to make one feel better about themselves. One person s thoughts has the power to influence anyone ... Influential judgement continues thus, giving a nickname to all walks of life. The film Crash shows that most forms of stereotypes are based upon discrimination among diverse races.
