Futility of the American Dream Exposed in The Great...
The road to success is not easy to navigate, but with hard work, drive and passion, it s possible to
achieve the American dream.
Tommy Hilfiger
In F. Scott Fitzgerald s novel The Great Gatsby, the principle character, Jay Gatsby makes an
exhaustive effort in his quest for the American Dream. The novel is Fitzgerald s vessel of commentary
and criticism of the American Dream. Fitzgerald defines this Dream, he depicts its beauty and
irresistible lure (Bewley 113). Through Gatsby s downfall, Fitzgerald expresses the futility and agony
of the pursuit of the dream.
The aspects of the American Dream are evident throughout Fitzgerald s narrative. Take, for example,
James Gatz s heavenly, almost unbelievable rise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, I am not ugly, for the effect of my ugliness, its power to repel, is annulled by money...
does not my money, therefore, transform all my incapacities into their opposites? (Possnock 204).
Gatsby s incapacities, generally of an emotional nature, inhibitions preventing his successful capture
of his long lost love, Daisy, are washed away with the drunkenness provided by the dollar:
However glorious might be his future as Jay Gatsby, he was a present a penniless young man without
a past, and at any moment the invisible cloak of his uniform might slip from his shoulders... He took
what he could get, ravenously and unscrupulously eventually he took Daisy one still October night
(Fitzgerald 141).
Once armed with the lucre, however, he is prepared to contribute equally to the relationship, making it
truly an equal relation of love.
Love represents the other side of the coin of wealth: as opposed to material wealth, it refers instead to
emotional wealth. Whatever its plane of existence, love plays a pivotal role in the American Dream, in
Gatsby s Dream. Perhaps love is the most valuable of the aspects presented thus far of the Dream; He
hadn t once ceased looking at Daisy, and I think he revalued everything in his house according to the
measure of response it drew from her well loved eyes (Fitzgerald 88). Such is his

The Pros and Cons of Ritalin
I. DEFINITION OF ADD AND HISTORY OF RITALIN When Jason was five, his mother, Cathy, had
to take him out of preschool because of his temper tantrums. She tried behavior management and
parenting courses, to no avail. Eventually, Jason was diagnosed with ADHD and given the stimulant
Ritalin, which controlled his outbursts. It was like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, Cathy said. Jason
flourished for the next six years, even winning his fifth grade citizenship award. In sixth grade,
however, his medication stopped working, and he became aggressive again. But Jason s teachers did
not believe he had a disability and refused to allow any special accommodations, like extra time to
take tests. At Christmas, Jason was so depressed that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There must also be clear evidence of clinically significant impairment in social, academic or
occupational functioning. Physicians did not begin to link childhood attention and behavior problems
to biological causes until the turn of the century. In several lectures to the Royal College of Physicians
in England in 1902, British physician George Frederic Still described twenty pediatric patients who
were aggressive, defiant, excessively emotional or passionate, lawless, spiteful, cruel, dishonest and
who displayed little inhibitory volition. He theorized that they probably had a basic defect in moral
control that was either hereditary or due to pre or post birth injury, (Hartman, 42). A lot has happened
since then though. Between the years of 1940 and 1960, many psychiatrists began using drugs to treat
mental illness. Ritalin was first used to treat hyperactivity in 1961, and in 1968 the American
Psychiatric Association (APA) first listed hyperkinetic reaction of childhood as a disorder in the
second edition of its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM II). In the 1970s, research focused more
on attention deficits as causing behavior problems, but some members of Congress began questioning
whether scientists were trying to medicate away energetic childhood behavior. On September 29,
1970, a House Government Operations subcommittee held a hearing on the federal government s role
in sponsoring research

Pride And Bride And Prejudice
What makes the Movie Pride and Prejudice so different from Bride and Prejudice? In the movie Pride
and Bride the mothers are pushing and trying to get their daughters married to save the girls from
being poor and homeless after the father passes away. The mothers are going to get one of the
daughters married no matter what it takes, preferably the eldest daughters. This is a contrast essay that
will only contrast the differences between the two movies. Pride and Bride are different based on the
times and settings, characters, and the outcome of the scene where Wickham runs off with the younger
daughter and what he seeks for in Pride unlike Bride.
In Pride the settings are in the 1900 s, In England. Based on this time and setting, the women are more
respectable of their appearances and have to show as less skin as possible. The communication is
based off letters, and actually speaking to one another. They use horses, and carriages as a way of
transportation, and never really travel outside of their country, they are more family orientated. Unlike
in Bride, the movie is set in India, based off of the 2000 s. The girls are freer to show skin and act how
they want as long as they are not going overboard with dressing in a way that will shun their mother
and father. Bride uses telephones and emails as a way of talking to other people. Their transportation
is not carriages and horses they actually use a different way to get around town like cars. Balraj says,

The Boy In The Striped Pajamas By John Boyne
A Journey Through the Eyes of a Jew and a Pole When exploring beyond nature, things can be
surprisingly amazing through interesting ways. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne tells
the story of a boy named Bruno who moves to a new home in Auschwitz and finds himself lonely
without friends. Later in the story, Bruno notices a fence out of his window far beyond his new home.
He is told not to explore the fence by his parents, but disobeys them and explores the fence when no
one was watching him. Bruno comes across a boy on the other side of the fence named Shmuel
wearing striped pajamas. Bruno introduces himself while not understanding why he is on the other
side of the fence. The meeting of the boys tells two stories through the eyes of a Jew and a Pole during
an isolated time. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas can teach lessons in humanity such as
discrimination, friendship, and confinement. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas demonstrates that Jews were mainly discriminated and targeted. On
page 148, it says, Lieutenant Kotler grew very angry with Pavel and no one not Bruno, not Gretel, not
Mother and not even Father stepped in to stop him doing what he did next, even though none of them
could watch. Lieutenant Kotler had done some horrendous actions to Pavel, the Jewish waiter, after
accidentally spilling wine on Kotler s lap. During this time of war, Jews were not considered as people
and were tortured and killed because of their race and religion. Discrimination among races still
occurs today and often violence is involved. Although discrimination still occurs, it teaches that
people can learn from these mistakes and correct it. However, Bruno and Shmuel did not let the
differences of their race affect their friendship as a German and a

“Critically Assess the Claim That Religious Language Is...
Critically assess the claim that religious language is meaningless Religious language has been argued
about by many philosophers to whether or not the ways in which we speak about religion are relevant
or meaningful. This issue of religious language looks at the way we talk about God, debate ideas and
communicate our theist or atheist ideologies. For some, religious language is meaningful and full of
purpose while others see it to being incomprehensible and pointless. The Vienna Circle was made up
of many great philosophers who were against metaphysics due to it leading to illogical thoughts like
there being another world to ours. This view transcended onto the philosophical issue of religious
language David Hume for instance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aquinas used the example of analogy to prove this. He believed any religious statements that you
make are being made from a human s perception and cannot be compared to the brilliance of God. For
example, you may get a good grade in an essay and you may claim that God is also good but the two
types of good are completely different. The univocal language that we use in day to day life is not
meaningless though it does help us to make connections between the world around us and God
himself. Analogy of attribution highlights words that can be applied to humans as well as to God. For
example, if you claim Anne is good and then say God is good then these are both meaningful
statements. When you state that God is good you are saying that he is the source of all goodness
because God is the creator and sustains all things. This is meaningful because the statement God is
good illustrates that if God created all goodness he must be good himself. According to the analogy of
proportion if you say my car is great then you are saying it lives up to your expectation of what
greatness is. If you say the religious statement God is a great God you are agreeing that God measures
up to what a great God should be. To Aquinas, this was meaningful because you were expressing
through analogy the goodness of God.
Although verificationists would argues that analogy, symbol and myth are all just as meaningless as
they can neither be verified nor

The Citizen Genet Affair Analysis
The Citizen Genet affair not only exhibits a great foreign disrespect towards the beliefs and authority
of our president, but is a heinous attempt to deteriorate the very structure that keeps our nation running
smoothly: trade. As I have previously stated, maintaining peace and focusing on trade are of
overriding importance, and it is vital for us to maintain peace with Britain in order to forge a strong
trading relationship overseas. Genet s demands for our militaristic and financial aid infringed upon
said peace, and as Washington explained, would do far more harm than good if followed. Similarly, a
success on Genet s part to garner our support in organizing attacks against the Spanish would disallow
us to reap the benefits of Mississippi

Episodes of depression with mixed features (having depression and manic symptoms at the same time)
are also possible.  Bipolar II Disorder defined by a pattern of depressive episodes and hypomanic
episodes, but not the full blown manic episodes described above.  Cyclothymic Disorder (also called

Evolution Of The American Flag
The American Flag has a huge history dating back to 1776. This was when the first American Flag
was created by Betsy Ross, who lived in Philadelphia. She was a seamstress and had ties to some
important people, including George Washington. It was also known that Betsy made flags for the
navy. The first flag had thirteen stars, which represented the thirteen original colonies, and thirteen
stripes alternating red and white. Between 1776 and 1960, Congress passed several acts changing the
shape, design, and arrangement of the American flag. In total, the American Flag went through twenty
six changes. Some of the designs as shown above, include circles, rows, and many other designs.

Hinduism s Influences On Hinduism
Hinduism is one of the oldest major religions still believed in today. There has been many disputes on
the origin, but most agree that the origin came about during the 2nd millennium B.C. in what is now
India. Living in India at the time was the Aryans, which are believed to have had an influence on
Hinduism. One of the first scriptures that the Hindus learn about is called the Vedas which was
originally written in Aryan making people some people believe it had an Aryan origin. The Aryans
believed, much like the current Hindus, in practices that involve bathing at certain times and long
bursts of meditation. Hindus would disagree with that accusation saying that the origin of their
religion came from a certain time or place because they believe that their religion is timeless. They
believe that the origin of their religion is beyond that of human written history (Hay 30 31).
Hinduism is called a religion, but it is actually more like a group of religions. Hinduism, unlike most
religions, is not based on a book or single author, but is a gathering of many authors writings which all
come from many different times periods (Garcia). This has caused Hinduism to be shaped by the
many cultures it has been introduced too over the millennia. One of the earliest influences on
Hinduism comes from the people called Dravidians which were located in the Indus River Valley,
where is now present day Pakistan (Religious Studies Center). Here, evidence was found of

Theme Of Love In La Belle Dame Sans Merci
Bitter. Sweet. Tender. Love. This subjective idea may refer to a concept, a feeling, an attitude, an
emotion, one could have towards another. Throughout history, one s perception on love may vary due
to the ideology they were being indoctrinated with as well as their family background. Given that
different historical periods may affect one s perception on their idea of love, an analysis on the poems
La Belle Dame sans Merci by John Keats, My Last Duchess by Robert Browning, and Mother in a
Refugee Camp by Chinua Achebe, will be made in order to examine and explore how poets living in
different times present love in their own unique approach.
La Belle Dame sans Merci is a ballad written by English poet John Keats in the year 1819, where ...

When the knight and the woman was having a sexual intercourse, She looked at him as she did love, /
And made sweet moan The declarative, she looked at him as she did love expresses the idea of
unrequited love. The woman may have only decided upon having a sexual intercourse with him to
favour his sexual desires, yet it does not represent that she has an affection for him. On the other hand
an iambic tetrameter is also used in the same quotation as a motif of the knight s heartbeat, this
represents the excitement and passionate emotions he has within the relationship and sexual
intercourse. A sense of negativity can be seen in the line And made sweet moan , the iambic dimeter in
this line has a foreboding effect to it, hinting that love between the woman and the knight will not last
long. Likewise to La Belle Dame sans Merci , Keats short poem The day is gone, and all its sweets are
gone! also signifies his role in the Romanticism movement by the reinforcement of his individual
expression and obsessive nature towards his lover Fanny Brawne. This is evident when Keats display
the sincere and direct emotions of himself in the title The day is gone, and all its sweets are gone! The
dependent clause, and all its sweets are gone is a metaphor that the sweetness of their relationship has
disappeared due to the distance between Keats and Brawne. This metaphor can be likened to La Belle
Dame sans Merci through the knight s loneliness and sentimental emotions when he waits for the
woman he loves. The intensifier all reinforces Keats desires to see Brawne, not seeing her for a day
does not only signify the loss of sweetness, but also marking the end of his day. He is eager to see
Brawne, and by not seeing her the sweetness of his day, the significance of his day has vanished,
disappeared. This poem can

When he was young, many people tried to stop him from boxing, but Robinson did not listen to them.
When Robinson started fighting top tier boxers, many people started doubting him and thought he
wouldn t make it. He overcame this and fought to the top. I loved it because it was an inspirational
story. It explained how he grew up from living in poverty in Detroit, to making millions and being
known from all over the world. In the book Shropshire said, Robinson dreamed of being a champ, but
most black men of the day were simply striving to make life better (Shropshire 24). This shows how
he was discriminated against for being an African American and couldn t get the privileges he wanted.
Despite the racial discrimination against him, he set out to follow his dreams. He was introduced to
boxing when he was 7 years old, and he started boxing by 1936 when he was 15. By the time he was

title. By the time he died from diabetes, he had a record of 128 1 2. He had the best record of anyone

worse. Stealing documents from his rival party, covering up his actions over and over again. And
finally getting caught of his actions, a distrust of their government by their citizens was created. But
how had it occurred? Why did Nixon do this? Why did he cover it up over and over again? What steps
and actions had led to Nixon s resignation? Because of the Watergate Scandal, the American citizens
understood that the American Government can be deceiving to its citizens.
It all started on June 17, 1972. Five men had been arrested at 2:30 AM in the Watergate Hotel (Lewis).
At that time, Watergate was the location of the offices of the Democratic National Committee (The
Watergate Story). The five men, Frank A Sturgis, Eugenio R. Martinez, Virgilio Gonzalez, Bernard L.
Barker, and James W. McCord were the burglars. James McCord, Being the most notable man out of
the bunch, was a former CIA and FBI agent. At the time of the break in, he was also part of the
Republican National Committee and the Committee for the Reelection of the President. However the
day after the break in, he was dismissed from both committees (Fama). But because of James

Essay on Joe Sacco
Joe Sacco s job isn t to write funny cartoons that belong in the Sunday morning paper. His works also
aren t average articles packed with nothing but boring statistics. Sacco may be a journalist, but there s
much more to him than his notepad and pen; he s a traveler, an artist, and someone who thinks making
a difference in the world is important by putting people s stories out there. According to his Wikipedia
page, Sacco had a hard time finding a job with hard hitting, attention grabbing pieces that would affect
his audience. So instead of working a job where he wasn t interested in what he was writing about, he
decided that trying to make a career out of his passion for cartooning was worth the effort. Combining

Simply by drawing a frown or worried expression, he translates the anxiety and feelings from this

gravel road with Sacco looking for her. Illustrating the story of the citizens of Gaza lets those of us
who cannot experience what they are going through empathize them, and at the same time we are

Sacco had all the control in his hands while creating this comic, so he was able to choose how his

Arden Of Faversham Critical Analysis
The play Arden of Faversham follows the Renaissance genre of tragedy, yet it focuses on the domestic
sphere in the unconventional setting of Arden and Alice s home, rather than the courtly setting of most
tragedies written in the Elizabethan period, in the realm of nobility. While most tragedies following
this genre concern themselves with the authority of those in the noble court, Arden of Faversham s
primary concern is with the authority within their own home.
As theatre began shifting away from the political sphere in the Elizabethan period and focused more
on comedic and tragic genres, playwrights were able to feature more intimate and domestic issues in
their spectacles, but still regarded courtly settings as the appropriate setting ... Show more content on

This is demonstrated after Gaveston reads the letter brought to him from the king, as he states, What
greater blisse can hap to Gaveston,/ Then live and be the favorit of a king? (Edward I.I 4 5). This letter
is calling Gaveston back to Edward s court, Gaveston s exile and return is a reoccurring theme
throughout the play. Marlowe constructs this play through the characterization of his characters, as the
king searches for his identity in his relationship with Gaveston. The play itself opens with a soliloquy
by Gaveston, My father is deceast ; come, Gaveston,/ And share the kingdom with thy deerest friend
(Edward I.I. 1 2), yet these first two lines are actually the words of the king, interplaying the
relationship with the king, and the role of the courtly world. However, while Arden and its characters
stray from the courtly world created in Edward II and The Spanish Tragedy, the author of Arden does
not keep this consistent throughout. For example, although Arden is unconventionally not of noble
birth, he does marry Alice who was descended of a noble house (Arden I.202). Although the play is
not directly representing a concern with state issues and territories,
The playwright of Arden uses irony, as seen in the passage, My saving husband hoards up bags of
gold/ To make our children rich (Arden I. 220 1). The irony represented in this statement is magnified
as it was Alice who claims that her husband saving money for their next generation, yet she is

The Solid South During The 1980 s
In the south during the 1980 s the Democratic Party gained strength and a solid foothold. This time
was known as the Solid South. It was called this due to the fact that white powerful democrats were
able to get elected anyone they wanted using a variety of underhanded tactics including fraud,
violence and blatantly racist laws. The grandfather clause was one of these racist laws. This law stated
that an individual was not allowed to vote if their grandfather was unable to vote in slavery days.
Luckily the U.S. Supreme Court struck it down. Sadly, however other rulings by the courts like
William v. Mississippi, (1898) allowed states to add poll taxes and require literacy tests to voting
requirements. These laws dramatically reduced the amount

The Rhetorical Analysis Of Plato And Elon Musk
Plato and Elon Musk
Building of a New World Innovative rhetoric. A term that, at its surface, may seem to refer to the
creation or innovation of the art rhetoric itself. However, in the realm of this essay, innovative rhetoric
is regarded as rhetoric that is used to inspire innovation and progress in a few different walks of life.
To that point, innovative rhetoric would cease to exist without bold women and men expanding the
horizon of the possibilities innovative thinking has to offer. Enter: Plato and Elon Musk. Albeit a
strange pairing, these two men aren t often mentioned in the same breathe, despite having a uniquely
similar vision in mind. In his famous philosophical work The Republic, Plato discusses the essential
factors for creating the ideal city, including the subjects of class, sustainability, and power. With a
similar tone, Musk s speech on colonizing Mars speaks of the the ingredients that make this new
society possible, as well as discussing the inevitable nature of this new society s creation. The
innovative rhetoric employed by both Plato and Musk is what has fueled progressive societal change
in the past and will continue to do so in the future. Part I Plato
Growing up in Athens, Greece in around 420 B.C., Plato was born into the perfect place for a young

ultimately both he and Druyun pleaded guilty to criminal wrongdoing and faced jail time. Ironically
the firing of Sears raised questions about the ethics of management at Boeing under Phil Condit, the
man Sears had wanted to replace as CEO. Within a month Condit had resigned from the CEO position,
a victim of the fallout from the scandal, which resulted in the loss of the military tanker contract.
Condit was replaced by Harry Stonecipher, who came out of retirement to take the CEO position.
However, in another disturbing power play at Boeing, Stonecipher was himself forced to step down
after a leaked e mail message revealed that he had initiated an extramarital affair with an employee at
Boeing. Fearing that Boeing was becoming mired in scandal after scandal, the board of directors asked
for Stonecipher s resignation. He was replaced by Jim McNeary, the CEO of 3M.

This substitution is inserted between the positions 451 and 452. It is worth notice that insertion is (3).

Cabeza de Vaca Essay
Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca is best known as the first Spaniard to explore what we now consider to
be southwestern United States. His nine year odyssey is chronicled within the book The Chronicle of
the Narvaez Expedition. His account is considered especially interesting because it is one of the very
first documents that illustrates interactions between American natives and explorers. However, when
examining the exploration of the modern United States, there are many arguments that have to do with
the entitlement to the land and the motivations behind settling in the first place. Most explorers were

History of Calculus Essay
History of Calculus
The history of calculus falls into several distinct time periods, most notably the ancient, medieval, and
modern periods. The ancient period introduced some of the ideas of integral calculus, but does not
seem to have developed these ideas in a rigorous or systematic way. Calculating volumes and areas,
the basic function of integral calculus, can be traced back to the Egyptian Moscow papyrus (c. 1800
BC), in which an Egyptian successfully calculated the volume of a pyramidal frustum.[1][2] From the
school of Greek mathematics, Eudoxus (c. 408 #8722;355 BC) used the method of exhaustion, which
prefigures the concept of the limit, to calculate areas and volumes while Archimedes (c. 287
#8722;212 BC) developed this idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Europe, the second half of the 17th century was a time of major innovation. Calculus provided a
new opportunity in mathematical physics to solve long standing problems. Several mathematicians
contributed to these breakthroughs, notably John Wallis and Isaac Barrow. James Gregory proved a

Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz was originally accused of plagiarism of Sir Isaac Newton s unpublished

Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz was originally accused of plagiarism of Sir Isaac Newton s unpublished
works, but is now regarded as an independent inventor and contributor towards calculus.
Leibniz and Newton pulled these ideas together into a coherent whole and they are usually credited
with the independent and nearly simultaneous invention of calculus. Newton was the first to apply
calculus to general physics and Leibniz developed much of the notation used in calculus today; he
often spent days determining appropriate symbols for concepts. The basic insight that both Newton
and Leibniz had was the fundamental theorem of calculus.

The Effectiveness of Native Title
The debate about native title issues has tended to see issues from idealistic perspectives ignoring the
practical realities that native title poses to governments, industry and indigenous people. The
implementation of the Native Title is an appropriate and significant aspect of Australia s common and
statute law, which effectively strives to develop a fair outcome for all Australian citizens. The Native

There are many stakeholders involved in the dispute revolving around native title however, both the

The Discovery Of Antibiotics And Medicine Essay
The discovery of antibiotics is arguably the greatest contribution to modern medicine. The widespread
use of antibiotics along with vaccines had paved the way for the treatment and cure for many of the
otherwise fatal bacteria diseases and this led to a decline in the mortality rates in the mid 20th century.
The use of antibiotics in medicine today to treat diseases have not all been met with positive
outcomes. As a matter of fact, its relative ease of access and abundance has given rise to a major
problem in creating new strains of bacteria that are able to resist our antibiotics today. Such is the case
for a special type of bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus, a gram positive bacterium with a spherical shape
which in some strains of this particular species has ultimately developed resistance to virtually all
antibiotics we have present today. Staphylococcus aureus is often found on skin surfaces in humans
colonizing about 30% of the human population [1]. They generally are not pathogenic until they enter
inside the body through an open wound or colonize other areas of the body of which they generally
are not found [1]. Staphylococcus aureus commonly cause non fatal skin diseases such as folliculitis,
cellulitis and abscesses however, they can invade the circulatory system and cause a serious infection
known as bacteremia [1,9]. Bacteremia is often common in a hospital setting where patients are
exposed to invasive procedures such as surgeries which allow colonies of S.

Goneril speaks eloquently about the vastness of the love that they hold for their father, though they are
speaking falsely, each attempting to appear the most loving and as a result they gain more territory. On
the other hand Cordelia refuses to stoop to such pandering stating instead she shows her love through
her deeds and which does not possess the oily, flattering ways of her sisters. The major characters
involved in parent/child relationships in King Lear are King Lear and his three daughters, Regan,
Goneril, and Cordelia (the true and the faithful one), and the other Gloucester and his two sons, Edgar
(the legitimate son) and Edmund (the illegitimate son). The octogenarian Lear proposes ... Show more

Though his kingdom should be divided equally, but Lear loves Cordelia more and wants to give her
the largest section of his wealth. In return, Lear expected excessive flattery and gushing confessions of
love but Cordelia s reply was tempered, honest, and reasonable. As soon as Cordelia fails to meet Lear
s expectations, he disinherits her. At Cordelia s loss, Goneril and Regan were very quick to take
advantage. They would have genuinely loved their father at one time, but now they seem tired of
having been passed over in favour of their younger sister. When Lear states his obvious preference for
Cordelia, her sisters feels free to seek their revenge, turning the family s natural order on its ear. At the
same time, Lear fails to see the strength and justice in natural law, hence disinherits his youngest
child, setting in motion the disaster that follows. Then Lear places a competition between sisters that

Significance Of The Presidential Election Of 1892
A. Plan of Investigation
The investigation aims to evaluate the significance of third party candidates in the US presidential
election of 1892. In 1912, Teddy Roosevelt famously split the vote of the Republican party as a third
party candidate, and the investigation resolves to assess whether a third party candidate changed the
outcome of the election in 1892. The investigation will focus mainly on the influence of one particular
candidate from the Populist Party, James B. Weaver, as he won several electoral votes but will also
include John Bidwell of the Prohibition Party who also drew in votes, although he did not gain an
electoral vote. The candidate from the Socialist Labor Party will be excluded from the investigation as
he did not play a significant role in the election. A focus of the investigation will be of the political
views of those associated with the Populist party and Socialist party as well as why they chose the a
third party ticket over the major party candidates running. Two sources, Populism and Political
Realignment by L. Patrick Hughes and Populist Party Platform (1892) published by the Omaha
Morning Herald, will be evaluated for use in the investigation to demonstrate the purposes, values,
and limitations of the sources in context of the investigation.
B. Summary of Evidence
The Presidential Election of 1892 was considered by some a landslide victory for Grover Cleveland
and the Democratic Party as he won with a margin of 400,000 votes over

Harmony with the Environment
The results of data analysis indicated the priority of structure on other mentioned obstacles.
Inappropriate structure may decrease flexibility and may also weaken organizational ability to be in
harmony with the environment especially whenever the organization needs alteration in the strategic
priorities in order to improve its competitive place. Allocation of the highest priority to the structure
may show inefficiency of the efforts of contractual companies managers in order to prepare structural
sequences which may help execution of strategies in addition to facilitate activities of the companies
in the field of contractual works. The inefficiency, may show its effects on decrease in flexibility
against the changes, in the shape of increase in organizational costs, and inability to attract market

Traditional Ground Based Teams And Virtual Teams
There are several differences and alike between traditional ground based teams and virtual teams when
individuals begin to work together as a team. In a common setting such as a classroom or a specific
department in a company, teams are assigned and begin to work together by discussing the details of a
project and assign tasks to each member. In this case, students or colleagues begin to work much
quicker than in a virtual setting because the exchange of communication is much faster. In contrast,
virtual teams have to first determine what method of communication would be appropriate for all
members of the team. Next, they have to wait for all members to respond and then they can execute
the best method of communication for the virtual team. According to Berry (2011), Virtual team
members can be located across the office, but almost as easily across the country or across the world,
and may rarely or perhaps never meet face to face. As team members become more reliant on
computer mediated communication technologies, the more virtual they become. However, today most
traditional teams use technological devices to continue work outside the classroom or office.
Therefore, traditional teams model a virtual team, and if members take advantage of the resources, it
can strengthen the team. There are implications that can potentially cause negative outcomes to both,
traditional or virtual teams. Virtual teams face a quandary when members share less information, are
not clear about

  • 2. Futility of the American Dream Exposed in The Great... The road to success is not easy to navigate, but with hard work, drive and passion, it s possible to achieve the American dream. Tommy Hilfiger In F. Scott Fitzgerald s novel The Great Gatsby, the principle character, Jay Gatsby makes an exhaustive effort in his quest for the American Dream. The novel is Fitzgerald s vessel of commentary and criticism of the American Dream. Fitzgerald defines this Dream, he depicts its beauty and irresistible lure (Bewley 113). Through Gatsby s downfall, Fitzgerald expresses the futility and agony of the pursuit of the dream. The aspects of the American Dream are evident throughout Fitzgerald s narrative. (Possnock 204). Gatsby s incapacities, generally of an emotional nature, inhibitions preventing his successful capture of his long lost love, Daisy, are washed away with the drunkenness provided by the dollar: However glorious might be his future as Jay Gatsby, he was a present a penniless young man without a past, and at any moment the invisible cloak of his uniform might slip from his shoulders... Once armed with the lucre, however, he is prepared to contribute equally to the relationship, making it truly an equal relation of love. Love represents the other side of the coin of wealth: as opposed to material wealth, it refers instead to emotional wealth. Whatever its plane of existence, love plays a pivotal role in the American Dream, in Gatsby s Dream. Perhaps love is the most valuable of the aspects presented thus far of the Dream; He hadn t once ceased looking at Daisy, and I think he revalued everything in his house according to the measure of response it drew from her well loved eyes (Fitzgerald 88). She tried behavior management and parenting courses, to no avail. Eventually, Jason was diagnosed with ADHD and given the stimulant Ritalin, which controlled his outbursts. It was like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, Cathy said. Jason flourished for the next six years, even winning his fifth grade citizenship award. In sixth grade, however, his medication stopped working, and he became aggressive again. Physicians did not begin to link childhood attention and behavior problems to biological causes until the turn of the century. In several lectures to the Royal College of Physicians in England in 1902, British physician George Frederic Still described twenty pediatric patients who were aggressive, defiant, excessively emotional or passionate, lawless, spiteful, cruel, dishonest and who displayed little inhibitory volition. He theorized that they probably had a basic defect in moral control that was either hereditary or due to pre or post birth injury, (Hartman, 42). A lot has happened since then though. Between the years of 1940 and 1960, many psychiatrists began using drugs to treat mental illness. Ritalin was first used to treat hyperactivity in 1961, and in 1968 the American Psychiatric Association (APA) first listed hyperkinetic reaction of childhood as a disorder in the second edition of its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM II). In the 1970s, research focused more on attention deficits as causing behavior problems, but some members of Congress began questioning whether scientists were trying to medicate away energetic childhood behavior. • 5. Pride And Bride And Prejudice What makes the Movie Pride and Prejudice so different from Bride and Prejudice? In the movie Pride and Bride the mothers are pushing and trying to get their daughters married to save the girls from being poor and homeless after the father passes away. The mothers are going to get one of the daughters married no matter what it takes, preferably the eldest daughters. This is a contrast essay that will only contrast the differences between the two movies. Pride and Bride are different based on the times and settings, characters, and the outcome of the scene where Wickham runs off with the younger daughter and what he seeks for in Pride unlike Bride. In Pride the settings are in the 1900 s, In England. Based on this time and setting, the women are more respectable of their appearances and have to show as less skin as possible. The communication is based off letters, and actually speaking to one another. They use horses, and carriages as a way of transportation, and never really travel outside of their country, they are more family orientated. Unlike in Bride, the movie is set in India, based off of the 2000 s. The girls are freer to show skin and act how they want as long as they are not going overboard with dressing in a way that will shun their mother and father. Bride uses telephones and emails as a way of talking to other people. Their transportation is not carriages and horses they actually use a different way to get around town like cars. Later in the story, Bruno notices a fence out of his window far beyond his new home. He is told not to explore the fence by his parents, but disobeys them and explores the fence when no one was watching him. Bruno comes across a boy on the other side of the fence named Shmuel wearing striped pajamas. Bruno introduces himself while not understanding why he is on the other side of the fence. The meeting of the boys tells two stories through the eyes of a Jew and a Pole during an isolated time. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas demonstrates that Jews were mainly discriminated and targeted. Lieutenant Kotler had done some horrendous actions to Pavel, the Jewish waiter, after accidentally spilling wine on Kotler s lap. During this time of war, Jews were not considered as people and were tortured and killed because of their race and religion. Critically assess the claim that religious language is meaningless Religious language has been argued about by many philosophers to whether or not the ways in which we speak about religion are relevant or meaningful. This issue of religious language looks at the way we talk about God, debate ideas and communicate our theist or atheist ideologies. For some, religious language is meaningful and full of purpose while others see it to being incomprehensible and pointless. The Vienna Circle was made up of many great philosophers who were against metaphysics due to it leading to illogical thoughts like there being another world to ours. This view transcended onto the philosophical issue of religious language David Hume for instance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aquinas used the example of analogy to prove this. He believed any religious statements that you make are being made from a human s perception and cannot be compared to the brilliance of God. For example, you may get a good grade in an essay and you may claim that God is also good but the two types of good are completely different. The univocal language that we use in day to day life is not meaningless though it does help us to make connections between the world around us and God himself. Analogy of attribution highlights words that can be applied to humans as well as to God. For example, if you claim Anne is good and then say God is good then these are both meaningful statements. When you state that God is good you are saying that he is the source of all goodness because God is the creator and sustains all things. This is meaningful because the statement God is good illustrates that if God created all goodness he must be good himself. According to the analogy of proportion if you say my car is great then you are saying it lives up to your expectation of what greatness is. If you say the religious statement God is a great God you are agreeing that God measures up to what a great God should be. To Aquinas, this was meaningful because you were expressing through analogy the goodness of God. • 14. Hinduism s Influences On Hinduism Hinduism is one of the oldest major religions still believed in today. There has been many disputes on the origin, but most agree that the origin came about during the 2nd millennium B.C. in what is now India. Living in India at the time was the Aryans, which are believed to have had an influence on Hinduism. One of the first scriptures that the Hindus learn about is called the Vedas which was originally written in Aryan making people some people believe it had an Aryan origin. The Aryans believed, much like the current Hindus, in practices that involve bathing at certain times and long bursts of meditation. Hindus would disagree with that accusation saying that the origin of their religion came from a certain time or place because they believe that their religion is timeless. They believe that the origin of their religion is beyond that of human written history (Hay 30 31). Hinduism is called a religion, but it is actually more like a group of religions. Hinduism, unlike most religions, is not based on a book or single author, but is a gathering of many authors writings which all come from many different times periods (Garcia). This has caused Hinduism to be shaped by the many cultures it has been introduced too over the millennia. One of the earliest influences on Hinduism comes from the people called Dravidians which were located in the Indus River Valley, where is now present day Pakistan (Religious Studies Center). Throughout history, one s perception on love may vary due to the ideology they were being indoctrinated with as well as their family background. Given that different historical periods may affect one s perception on their idea of love, an analysis on the poems La Belle Dame sans Merci by John Keats, My Last Duchess by Robert Browning, and Mother in a Refugee Camp by Chinua Achebe, will be made in order to examine and explore how poets living in different times present love in their own unique approach. When the knight and the woman was having a sexual intercourse, She looked at him as she did love, / And made sweet moan The declarative, she looked at him as she did love expresses the idea of unrequited love. The woman may have only decided upon having a sexual intercourse with him to favour his sexual desires, yet it does not represent that she has an affection for him. On the other hand an iambic tetrameter is also used in the same quotation as a motif of the knight s heartbeat, this represents the excitement and passionate emotions he has within the relationship and sexual intercourse. A sense of negativity can be seen in the line And made sweet moan , the iambic dimeter in this line has a foreboding effect to it, hinting that love between the woman and the knight will not last long. Likewise to La Belle Dame sans Merci , Keats short poem The day is gone, and all its sweets are gone! also signifies his role in the Romanticism movement by the reinforcement of his individual expression and obsessive nature towards his lover Fanny Brawne. This is evident when Keats display the sincere and direct emotions of himself in the title The day is gone, and all its sweets are gone! The dependent clause, and all its sweets are gone is a metaphor that the sweetness of their relationship has disappeared due to the distance between Keats and Brawne. This metaphor can be likened to La Belle Dame sans Merci through the knight s loneliness and sentimental emotions when he waits for the woman he loves. The intensifier all reinforces Keats desires to see Brawne, not seeing her for a day does not only signify the loss of sweetness, but also marking the end of his day. He is eager to see Brawne, and by not seeing her the sweetness of his day, the significance of his day has vanished, disappeared. This poem can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Arden Of Faversham Critical Analysis The play Arden of Faversham follows the Renaissance genre of tragedy, yet it focuses on the domestic sphere in the unconventional setting of Arden and Alice s home, rather than the courtly setting of most tragedies written in the Elizabethan period, in the realm of nobility. While most tragedies following this genre concern themselves with the authority of those in the noble court, Arden of Faversham s primary concern is with the authority within their own home. This letter is calling Gaveston back to Edward s court, Gaveston s exile and return is a reoccurring theme throughout the play. Marlowe constructs this play through the characterization of his characters, as the king searches for his identity in his relationship with Gaveston. The play itself opens with a soliloquy by Gaveston, My father is deceast ; come, Gaveston,/ And share the kingdom with thy deerest friend (Edward I.I. 1 2), yet these first two lines are actually the words of the king, interplaying the relationship with the king, and the role of the courtly world. However, while Arden and its characters stray from the courtly world created in Edward II and The Spanish Tragedy, the author of Arden does not keep this consistent throughout. For example, although Arden is unconventionally not of noble birth, he does marry Alice who was descended of a noble house (Arden I.202). Although the play is not directly representing a concern with state issues and territories, The playwright of Arden uses irony, as seen in the passage, My saving husband hoards up bags of gold/ To make our children rich (Arden I. 220 1). To that point, innovative rhetoric would cease to exist without bold women and men expanding the horizon of the possibilities innovative thinking has to offer. Enter: Plato and Elon Musk. • 27. A Christmas Carol Essay Each ghost marks an important step in Scrooge s journey towards being a better person. Explain In Dickens five stave novella each ghost in A Christmas Carol contributes to the final redemption of his journey to becoming a better person. The ghosts take Scrooge on a journey, physically, taking him to visit important aspects of his past, present and future and these journeys metaphorically empathy enlightenment that he needs to change into a more humane person. The five staves outline how he grows as a person, and eventually redeems himself. Although the three main ghost of the novel are large aspects of Scrooges journey, without the initial visit from Marley s Ghost, Scrooge would not have had the opportunity change for the better. ... The ghost then takes Scrooge to his boarding school where he is greeted by his much younger sister Fan expressing how excited she is to spend Christmas all together as a family. Scrooge seemed uneasy in his mind; It is here that Scrooge begins to regret the way he treats Fans only son, Scrooges only nephew and become remorseful for rejecting him from his life. We then are introduced to Scrooges old place of work where he was apprenticed by Old Fezziwig. Scrooge is reminded of the way he was treated by his employer. He was respected and was respectful towards him, and the example of Old Fezziwig demonstrates how Scrooge is the exact opposite. This was an example of what a good employer can be, and he wishes to speak to his clerk. He has the power to render us happy or unhappy; to make our service light or burdensome; It is now Scrooge begins to understand that he has been making his clerk, Bob Cratchit s life a misery. The ghost of Christmas past has covered three main aspects of Scrooges past, but the final one is his past relationship with Belle, who he lost because he changed his nature and became more interested in gaining money instead of appreciating what he had. To emphasize the regret Scrooge should feel, the ghost takes him to Belles new home and family, which shakes Scrooge the most because it is what Scrooge missed out on. His nine year odyssey is chronicled within the book The Chronicle of the Narvaez Expedition. His account is considered especially interesting because it is one of the very first documents that illustrates interactions between American natives and explorers. However, when examining the exploration of the modern United States, there are many arguments that have to do with the entitlement to the land and the motivations behind settling in the first place. The ancient period introduced some of the ideas of integral calculus, but does not seem to have developed these ideas in a rigorous or systematic way. Calculating volumes and areas, the basic function of integral calculus, can be traced back to the Egyptian Moscow papyrus (c. 1800 BC), in which an Egyptian successfully calculated the volume of a pyramidal frustum.[1][2] From the school of Greek mathematics, Eudoxus (c. 408 #8722;355 BC) used the method of exhaustion, which prefigures the concept of the limit, to calculate areas and volumes while Archimedes (c. 287 #8722;212 BC) developed this idea ... The widespread use of antibiotics along with vaccines had paved the way for the treatment and cure for many of the otherwise fatal bacteria diseases and this led to a decline in the mortality rates in the mid 20th century. The use of antibiotics in medicine today to treat diseases have not all been met with positive outcomes. As a matter of fact, its relative ease of access and abundance has given rise to a major problem in creating new strains of bacteria that are able to resist our antibiotics today. Such is the case for a special type of bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus, a gram positive bacterium with a spherical shape which in some strains of this particular species has ultimately developed resistance to virtually all antibiotics we have present today. Staphylococcus aureus is often found on skin surfaces in humans colonizing about 30% of the human population [1]. They generally are not pathogenic until they enter inside the body through an open wound or colonize other areas of the body of which they generally are not found [1]. Staphylococcus aureus commonly cause non fatal skin diseases such as folliculitis, cellulitis and abscesses however, they can invade the circulatory system and cause a serious infection known as bacteremia [1,9]. In 1912, Teddy Roosevelt famously split the vote of the Republican party as a third party candidate, and the investigation resolves to assess whether a third party candidate changed the outcome of the election in 1892. The investigation will focus mainly on the influence of one particular candidate from the Populist Party, James B. The candidate from the Socialist Labor Party will be excluded from the investigation as he did not play a significant role in the election. • 43. Traditional Ground Based Teams And Virtual Teams There are several differences and alike between traditional ground based teams and virtual teams when individuals begin to work together as a team. In a common setting such as a classroom or a specific department in a company, teams are assigned and begin to work together by discussing the details of a project and assign tasks to each member. In this case, students or colleagues begin to work much quicker than in a virtual setting because the exchange of communication is much faster. In contrast, virtual teams have to first determine what method of communication would be appropriate for all members of the team. Next, they have to wait for all members to respond and then they can execute the best method of communication for the virtual team. According to Berry (2011), Virtual team members can be located across the office, but almost as easily across the country or across the world, and may rarely or perhaps never meet face to face. As team members become more reliant on computer mediated communication technologies, the more virtual they become. However, today most traditional teams use technological devices to continue work outside the classroom or office. Therefore, traditional teams model a virtual team, and if members take advantage of the resources, it can strengthen the team. There are implications that can potentially cause negative outcomes to both, traditional or virtual teams. Virtual teams face a quandary when members share less information, are not clear about ...
