The Great Gatsby Feminine Power Essay
Just under five years ago, on the 9th of October 2012, Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head, the
bullet traveled through her neck and lodged in her shoulder. The Taliban had issued death threats
towards Malala for her activism, such as going to her exam when girls were not permitted to receive
education. Subsequently, in her defiance, Malala put herself in danger, nonetheless, the 15 year old
was undeterred in her fight for what she believed in. F.Scott Fitzgerald embodied this drive in his
characters, even his female ones. Although, The Great Gatsby was not entertained around Jordan
Baker, Myrtle Wilson, and Daisy Buchanan, the women in Fitzgerald s story each held feminine
power, this power was shown in their physical beauty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Persuasive Essay On A Flat Tax System
Wouldn t it be a perfect world if everyone paid their fair share of taxes? Shouldn t everyone have skin
in the game? For example, if the tax rate was 10%, then the person earning $10,000 per year would
pay $1,000 in taxes, and the person earning $100,000 per year would pay $10,000 in taxes. Does this
sound too good to be true? Many complain that our current tax system is broken and there has to be a
better tax system. During this last presidential campaign, the idea of a flat tax system was once again
discussed as an option by one of the candidates. Over the years, many bills have been introduced to
congress to change our tax system. Right now, Congress is debating on a new tax system. Our
President is pushing for change as he realizes the current system is not going to get the deficit down.
We may not see significant change this term, but it will be interesting to see how it all turns out. This
paper will discuss what is wrong with our current system, the possible solution of adopting a flat tax
system, the counter evidence of why a flat tax system is probably not the solution to our tax problem
and why this evidence is right. Our current system is very complex, not efficient, biased, and basically
not effective. Did you know the current tax code has over 9 million words? (books.google.com) (241
words) It s no wonder people want change. I think most would agree our current tax system needs
revised. We hear on the news how big corporations pay little in

Why Contraception And Not Only Natural Family Planning...
Thesis: I will discuss why contraception and not only Natural Family Planning should be allowed by
the Catholic Church because it helps prevents sexually transmitted infections and diseases and
prevents millions of unwanted children from being born and then abandoned every year. Different
forms of contraception have existed for hundreds of years, dating back to the Roman Empire. It was
not until the 1950 s that a progesterone pill, synthesized from wild yams was created which could
block ovulation (Gibson). In 1960, the United States Food and Drug Administration approved Enovid,
an oral contraceptive pill (Gibson). The creation of this pill marked the biggest change in how
contraceptive was viewed and its potential in American history. Even though other forms of
contraception existed, those were more directed for male use only. This was one of the few methods
that females could take and that actually worked. By 1965, almost 6.5 million women in America were
on this method of contraceptive, which is most commonly known as the pill. At the time, state laws
prohibited the use of contraceptives until 1965 when the Supreme Court unbanned these laws. The
Catholic Church began to weight into this phenomenon and after the Supreme Court allowed the use
of this method as safe and effective for couples, everyone thought the Church would accept it and
allow individuals to make the decision about contraceptive for themselves. Unfortunately, in 1968
Paul IV released Humanae Vitae. In this

Song Comparison Essay The road of life can be a bumpy one. There will always be twists and turns
that can alter a person s life, changing the course of their destination. Even though life can be tough,
you have to draw upon your inner strength in order to persevere. The songs, Move Along by The All
American Rejects and Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) by Greenday sing about this message. The
lyrics in their songs have many literary devices such as personification, repetition, symbolism and
juxtaposition. The personification will help you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theme is how when you have a tough, important moment in life, you have to make the best of it
and move along. An image for these lyrics will help you connect to the theme because you can see
what is going on and a picture will help you understand something more. In my next paragraph, I will
be talking about how the singers used repetition to emphasize certain points. In these songs, lyrics
were repeated. Repetition draws the listener s attention to particular words or phrases. In the song,
Time of Your Life, the singer repeats the line, It s something unpredictable, but in the end it s right. I
hope you had the time of your life. This line is repeated throughout the song multiple times. The
singer is emphasizing the fact that anything can happen when you make your choice but in the end,
you have to just relax and be happy. He wants the audience to really understand it. In the other song,
the line, Move along, move along. Just to make it through The singer is repeating the term, Move
along because that is the main message in this song. It is to move along when things seem bad. The
singer wants the audience to really get the message and to feel good when they relate to this song.
These lines connect to the theme because they are talking about moving on in tough situations and
being satisfied with the outcome. These lyrics were emphasized well. Besides repetition, the singers
also used symbols and juxtaposition to

The critically acclaimed and commercially successful film,...
The critically acclaimed and commercially successful film, Spiderman 2, was hailed as a landmark
film that illustrated the unfamiliar concept of a hero with an underlying humanity. Throughout the
film, Peter Parker demonstrates a remarkable, organic character that makes him and his alter ego,
Spiderman, accessible to a wide audience, allowing various age groups to easily identify and connect
with him. This action packed clip is no exception to the fundamental theme of the sequel to the 2002
film, Spiderman. Despite a tight story space, the clip has been one of the enduring hallmarks of the
film. Through enrapturing cinematographic techniques, dynamic secondary characters, and a reflective
artistic context, Spiderman Stops the Train has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Distinctively, an intriguing aspect of the clip lies in the fact that the protagonist does not undergo
much personal transformation, thus indicating the static and rather flat nature of the character.
Throughout the clip, Spiderman is simply portrayed as a hero attempting to perform his duty; he will
either save the train or fail to do so. In contrast, throughout the entire length of the clip, the secondary
characters the passengers undergo a rather radical transformation from being fearful, skeptical, and
mocking to a fiercely loyal and trusting group. These facets may be inferred from the only person
Spiderman directly communicates with during the entire ordeal: the train operator. Quite possibly, his
initial fear in the statement, Oh my God, this is it! reflects all of the passengers perspectives of their
present situation. When Spiderman initially fails to reduce the train s speed, this fear turns into
mocking skepticism as stated by the old man and is indicative of the group s thoughts: Any more
bright ideas? However, one can observe that the unbelieving operator is one of the first people to
prevent Peter Parker from falling into the city street below, an indication of a character change. The
gratefulness and trust that the passengers expressed can by observed by their symbolic gesture of
bearing the comatose hero on their arms in solemn jubilation and respectful silence. Perhaps their trust
and loyalty may be most evident when,

Descriptive Essay On Basketball
Entering the gym resonates an immediate feeling of dedication. Double glass doors open, making an
odd creak that only those two doors are able to make. The sound of these doors opening brings a chill
down the spine. Once the gym is entered, there is a large brown trashcan that hides in the corner, like a
child that has done something wrong and is hiding from his or her parent. Its orange bag loves to poke
out past the can itself like a baby kangaroos head from its mothers pouch. Two black ball holding
racks lean against the wall. Each rack has three rows that hold five basketballs per row. The metallic
feeling to these racks are very cold and intense to the touch. Life is a basketball, constantly bouncing
up and down. All of the great basketball players used one common tool to keep life more on the upside
of the metaphor, a basketball. Michael Jordan. LeBron James. Tim Duncan. Like they all used, the
basketballs on this rack are exactly identical. Deep Tangerine Men s basketballs, that have a light
yellowish tint to them. Majestic stripes swirl around the balls as like the markings on a zebra. The bar
codes on the basketballs are all whited out so that people cannot take and resell the balls. Jimmy Floyd

like a mother duck protects her ducklings. Unlike most gyms, the Floyd has an unusual blue plastic
floor. Hardwood is the normal choice for basketball gyms.

The Signs Of Shopping By Malcolm Gladwell
To be successful in a capitalistic government, you must be willing to step on the heads of those who
are below you, and claim their successes as your own. Advertisements within our capitalistic culture
act as a way to force the customer into buying what the corporate overlords want you to buy. Anne
Norton, author of The Signs of Shopping is a heavily published author, and has earned many awards in
her field. In her essay, she explains how businesses use advertisement techniques to increase the
profits in a retail store. Malcolm Gladwell, the author of The Science of Shopping is a staff writer for
the New Yorker. In his essay, he explains how Paco Underhill, a retail expert, taught many Forbes 500
companies how to create more opportunities to up sale to their customers. Norton shows how malls
and other shopping outlets only want one demographic to shop in their stores, and Gladwell shows
how stores utilize their internal structure to make more money. Both utilize a negative tone toward the
business practices shown in the articles, and demonstrate the manipulation of the consumer with the
usage of imagery within advertisements to show that capitalism is unethical. Manipulation of
consumers in stores and other establishments, is at a new high. Capitalism acts as the encouragement
to large corporations to use these controversial practices. Norton uses blunt language and Gladwell
explains the significance of retail to show how capitalism encourages manipulation. Norton used

Relationship Between Arnold Friend And Connie In Joyce...
From the novel Where are going, where have you been? to the big screen Smooth Talk, Joyce Carol
Oates and film director Joyce Chopra have brought up some eye opening questions to the audience.
The film is about a flirtatious self absorbed teenage girl who is soon to be a sophomore in high school.
Throughout the film she shows an uncontrollable behavior as she flirts with boys and goes window
shopping in a mall. In the movie Connie proves that she is different from her mom. Connie s actions
will come back and have her experience a life changing event after her family leaves to a barbeque.
This will leave Connie home alone and vulnerable. A stranger, who will be later identified as Arnold
Friend, will arrive at Connie s home and ask to take her out for a ride. Hesitated and scared Connie

Connie reconciles her relationship with her family. Connie and her mother Katherine, are constantly
debating in the short story and film. The two finally come to good terms; Connie s sister ,June, is now
able to sit down and have a decent chat with her sister on recent events that Connie has stumbled
upon. In Joyce Carol Oates short story, Katherine doesn t seem like she cares for Connie because she

Oak Park Township s Potential Trend Equation
1 Introduction This report presents projections of Oak Park Township s population for the year 2030.
These projections were done by three methods such as the following: allocation, trend extrapolation,
and cohort component. These projected processes and results can be elaborated by methods in the
following sections. 2 Population Projection Methods 2.1 Allocation Allocation, this method uses larger
region s population or projections and percentage of population of a smaller area in the larger region
to estimate smaller area s population. Oak Park Township is located in Cook County, so the first step
is to obtain the most recent population of Cook County and Oak Park Township and the projected
population of Cook County in 2030. According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, using the population of each five year cohort in 2000, we projected the population excluding
migration in 2010. Comparing the census and projected population in 2010, the10 year migration rates
were estimated. So, with the migration rates, the migration of 2030 could be projected. Due to the
projected births, deaths and migration in 2030, the projected population of Oak park Township in 2030
was shown in following Table 4. Comparatively speaking, the allocation and trend extrapolation
methods require less data and simply assume current distributions and the trend will continue.
However, the cohort component method relies on more data and assumptions than the others. It can be
rationally projected. That is to say, if obtaining the data and assumptions is not difficult, the cohort
component could provide a reliable projection. 3 Conclusion The results of the projected population of
Oak Park Township in 2030 by different methods were distinctly shown in Table 6. These projections
have quite a bit of difference. According to the above comparison of three methods, the cohort
component should be the reliable one. In conclusion, the population of Oak Park Township is likely to
see a reduction, compared with 2010. The population is projected from 51,878 to 45,187, a decrease of

The founder of the Planetree is Angelica Thieriot (Sharrow Durand, 2012). Thieriot made Planetree

Women s Role In Ancient Greek Society
The Role of Women in Ancient Greek Society Throughout history, the role of women has been
minimal. Many of them were seen as objects, and the Greek woman was no different. Women in
ancient Greece basically had no rights. A female s whole life was centered on her children, husband,
and family. The ancient Greek woman was of a lower social status than the males. Greek women
played a demeaning role in Greek society and were only seen as wives, mothers, and housekeepers.
Even in ancient Greece, marriage was a spiritual and legal ceremony. The spiritual and legal ceremony
was really considered to be a transaction among two men. The ancient Greek woman had no say in
who she could marry. The woman was given away by her father to her husband. ... Show more content

Women did not own much, but if she did, the property always remained separate from her husband s.
The husband served as head of the household and controlled all of the property while he was alive.
When the husband died, all inheritance was given to the children. A woman could not receive an
inheritance from her husband, but she could receive things from her brother. In fact, the only way a
woman could possess anything was if she divorced her husband without bearing any children.
Becoming a mother was one of the most important roles for women in ancient Greece. It was
extremely important for women to produce male children. When a man s wife did not have a male, it
was seen as shameful. Giving birth to a girl was seen as an embarrassment and disgrace. After giving
birth to a daughter, a mother would turn her head away from her husband in shame (Demand, p. 6).
Daughters could not carry on their families name so; men often did not count them as their children. If
a man s wife was unable to produce a male child, the daughters would then be responsible for
producing one. Bearing a male child made the idea of being a mother very

Shady Hollow Tasks
My tasks varied each day at Shady Hollow. I loved this because it meant there was always something
new to learn and I did not get bored. However, for a large part of my internship I worked at the front
desk of the country club. Our front desk was manned from 9:00 5:00 Tuesday through Friday. It would
be the first place people see when they walk in the doors and also where the phones and emails are
filtered through. I loved working at the front desk because it put me at the heart of the office. All of
the managers at Shady Hollow had an open door policy, this meant I was exposed to the work they

kind of a dumping grounds for many different sort of things, whether it be lost and found items,
packages, or mail. Once I deal with anything that may have been left on my desk, I move on to
checking the phone for messages and the computer for emails. Often these are members calling to
make reservations for our dining facilities or an upcoming event. However, since the front desk also
holds the main phone lines there are many times when I needed to forward the voicemail or email off
to the appropriate person. The task of phones and emails then continued all day. I would also greet
prospective members and answer questions about the club. All of these member relations tasks helped
me to fulfill my objective of customer relations and service. I also had to deal with any salesman who
came in trying to sell us their product. Most of the time this just involved taking their business cards

Benefits Of Same Sex Education
Is same sex education more beneficial? In 2006, only about four percent of the freshman class of
Chicago s Urban Prep Academy was able to read at grade level. But, in May of 2011, one hundred
percent of the senior class had been accepted to four year colleges/universities, many receiving full
scholarships. (Novotney, 2011) This was the first all male public charter high school in the United
States. The fact that this school was same sex education is the main factor that brought one hundred
percent of these seniors success. In today s society, there is usually no distinction between same sex
education and co education. However, there is a distinction. This distinction is that same sex education
is more beneficial to students. Society today does not realise this, even though there are many factors
that prove it. One main difference is that same sex schools are usually private schools while co
education schools are usually public schools. Parents in society today differentiate the schools by if
they would prefer to pay for the education (private same sex schools) versus not paying (co education
public schools). However, there is a difference. This difference is the fact that same sex education
schools are more beneficial for students. Despite this fact, the costs of private schools still prevent
parents from sending their children to these schools. Another issue that arises is that the decision of
sending your children to either same sex schools and co education schools

Pros And Cons Of Organ Transplantation
Proposals Assignment
Organ Transplantation is an innovative technology that replace the recipient s damaged or absent
organs by moving organs from one body to another. Transplantation can be performed within the same
person s body or between two subjects either from a living or cadaveric source. Scientists and
historians estimate that in the early 80 BC, Indian doctors began grafting skin to treat burns and other
wounds. In Early 1900s, Modern organs transplants began by European doctors that attempted to save
patients dying of renal failure, he transplanted kidneys from various animals, like monkeys, goats and

MLK Servant Leader
Servant Leader MLK vs. Servant Leader Honest Abe Throughout the centuries, there have been many
servant leaders that changed the world in their own different ways. MLK and Abraham Lincoln used
the servant leader characteristic, commitment to the people by giving everything they have for the
people. Abe and MLK also used conceptualization to help people dream big dreams. Lastly, MLK and
Lincoln used persuasion to help non believers to join the cause. They both used the same servant
leader characteristics, but the way they used the characteristic was different. Committing to the growth
of the people is a servant leader characteristic that mean the servant leader is selfless in their acts to
the cause they are supporting. Martin Luther King, Jr. committed himself to the growth people by
giving his time to personal life to help brake the segregation. This is noticeable through all the events
he was part of and all the speeches he shared with the public. Abraham Lincoln committed himself to
the growth people from the beginning of his presidency. Abraham was a humble individual that only

Imagine living as nomads, without any sense of a real home. In addition to that; living with a troubled

There was one moment in the book where she had to make probably one of the most difficult choices

for a bus ticket, wiping out any hope that she had. I ll never get out of here, Lori kept saying. I ll never
get out of here. You will, I said. I swear it. I believed she would. Because I knew that if Lori never got
out of Welch, neither would I. Then one day, Jeannette was offered $200 and a bus ticket back to
Welch to take care of a woman s two toddlers in Iowa for the summer. Instead, she insisted that the
woman, Mrs. Sanders, should take Lori and her payment be a bus ticket to New York City. The fact
that Jeannette easily made the decision of sacrificing her ticket for Lori amazes me; she knew how
important the trip the New York was for her, so she wanted to make that dream happen. When Lori
left, Jeannette still did not give up on her dream to go to New York and become a journalist. She

Bilingual Education Report
As a middle school ESL teacher in one of the states which has legally mandated the pedagogically
questionable supported English immersion (SEI) as the preferred manner of instruction for English
language learners, I have not yet been persuaded by those who insist that the elimination of bilingual
education has been a disaster. I concede that my perspective is impacted by having seen the results of
perhaps an uncommonly low quality bilingual program in my own district. When I first started
teaching in Fitchburg, Massachusetts in 2006, the middle school students who had been in a district
dual language program were shockingly lower in their English proficiency than the students who had

The 1980s also saw the rise of a number of organizations which promoted the exclusive use of English
in American public life and schools. The research support for this backlash seems to have rested
primarily on reviews of previous program evaluations conducted by Baker and de Kanter (1981,
1983), with more than 90% of the previous studies being excluded because Baker and de Kanter
deemed them methodologically unsound. However, their analysis was rapidly contested by critics who
felt that had these researchers properly accounted for variables across the studies, the results from the
meta analysis would instead have demonstrated small to moderate differences supporting bilingual
education (Nieto, 2009).
The tide turned again with the 1994 Clinton Administration reauthorization of the Bilingual Education
act, also known as the Improving America s Schools Act, which promoted bilingual education for the
first time not just to help immigrants learn English, but also as way to develop the human capital of
the nation and promote American competitiveness in the global economy. The result of this extension
was the expansion of developmental bilingual education, which included two way bilingual programs

What is most often thought of when the word woman comes to mind? Kind? Feminine? Submissive?
These adjectives often come to mind. Humans have placed stereotypes on woman and have placed
them second fiddle to man. And so powerful and masculine would never be acceptable to call a
woman? Henrik Ibsen s, Hedda Gabler, is just this case. Hedda, the main character of the story, is the
exact opposite of what women are thought to be. She is cold, emotionless, and some would say she
shows a degree of masculinity. She is a woman who s only actions in the pursuit of power and
manipulation being her main tool. Hedda s great conquest of power ultimately ends with her being
pregnant with her tool of a husband s child and sexual servitude to a lustful Judge Brack, through
black mail of Løvborgs death at the barrel of Hedda s father s own pistol. Hedda having no choice and
being back into a corner decides to do the boldest measure ever for a woman, suicide. She escaped
through death and avoided Brack s sexual blackmail, becoming useless to her husband, as well as
mother hood. Suicide was her final victory.
Henriks Ibsen s play Hedda Gabler is one of a woman on a quest of power. Hedda being a woman this
time period might be thought of as a disadvantage but that idea would be wrong. Hedda has indeed
learned that this is a man s world clearly. Hedda simply doesn t care, Hedda will get her way
eventually. This woman is a

The Five Keys Of Concept Of Social Justice

The Atrocities Of The Holocaust
The atrocities of the Holocaust placed the German Jewish population in a quagmire of antisemitic
persecution, but it also spread beyond Germany to affect Jews throughout Europe. Poland was such a
country. The first nation invaded by Nazi Germany and the last to be liberated, the population of
Polish Jews was nearly eradicated. How were the Nazis able to accomplish such a feat in a nation
where antisemitism had not been as prevalent? Aside from forcibly introducing antisemitic policy into
Poland, the Nazis relied on fear and self interest to accomplish their goals. For the average Polish
Catholic in 1943, a decision had to be made on where they stood regarding the Jewish problem .
Should they sit idly by and do nothing, or perhaps even assist in the capture of the Jews? Or maybe
they could risk everything by hiding and otherwise aiding the Polish Jews. If I were such a Polish
Catholic citizen living in 1943 and the opportunity arose to help a Polish Jew, my conscience would
prevent me from doing any less. Deciding to aid the Polish Jews is not a decision to be taken lightly.
To aid any number of Jews would risk one s very life. So what would cause an individual to take such
a risk and assist the Jews faced with Nazi persecution? Whether I sympathize with the Jews religion or
not, I would recognize that what the Nazis are doing is atrocious. Only if I were as malicious as the
stereotypical Nazi would I think otherwise. I simply could not survive having done nothing

Things Fall Apart Thin Line
Within William Yeats poem, the meaning of the phrase Things Fall Apart refers to how the thin line
between the undefinable parts of life and a distant reality exists when all begins to become blurred
together; no one sees the difference anymore. Life, as it comes about as undefinable, the events that
occur in one s existence should not all be meaningless . Events such as birth, growing, learning, loving
and hating divided by the distant reality in the manner of events yearned for in one s heart, or dreamed
of in someone s sleep or subconscious mind. Once this line becomes blurred, it gets be transformed
into something entirely different pertaining to one s belief, in any fashion, becomes the only reasoning
in response to terrible occurrences in one s world or life. Yeats portrays this theme, with himself, in his
poem The Second Coming. One major theme presented in the poem comes about when one gets an
interpretation of Yeat s true message. Although ,Yeats experiences how the thin line between the

day sweats, hot flashes, night sweats, and vasomotor instability. The vasomotor flush is considered as
the hallmark of the female climacteric, experienced by at least 45% of postmenopausal women. Hot
flashes are described as an onset of reddening of the skin over the chest, head, and neck, and
accompanied by a feeling of intense body heat and concluded by profuse sweating. The time interval
fluctuates from a few seconds to several minutes. Flashes are often more frequent and severe at night
or during stressful moments. Usually hot flashes cease within an average of fours years of onset. Mild
to moderate hot flashes can be managed with lifestyle modifications, such as avoidance of spicy foods,
caffeine or alcohol, engaging in relaxation exercises, layering of light clothing, lowering of the
thermostat, and regular exercise. It is not been detyermined if hot flashes are caused by decreasing or

Why Did We Going To Win The Revolutionary War
Those British are at it again. I don t think they get that we are going to attack them sometime when

because we could win freedom, stop having our rights violated, and we could get rid of all of those
stupid taxes. We have a good chance at winning the war and if we do, we could get the freedom that
we want and need. When the British first came over to the colonies, they were always in everybody s

named them the Intolerable Acts. I don t think they should have reacted the way they did when we had
our little Boston Tea Party. They closed the Boston Harbor! That s the only way that some people of
Boston can trade to make money or important things for their family. I think they might know we are
planning what to do if they attack or what we are going to do if we attack. I think this because the
Coercive Acts include a part that said no more town meetings. They know that our meetings are
obviously for planning and they know that the more we plan, the stronger we are. When the British
were here the first time to search for smuggled food, they couldn t just sleep outside all night. They
had to sleep somewhere. So those British stuck them on us. We had to willingly open up our houses to
those Lobster backs. It was as if we had to let someone we hate live in our house for a while. This was
the part of the act that annoyed me the most. But just think about it; if we win the war all of that would
be gone. Some say that the taxes could be good for us but if you ask those people why, they have
absolutely no answer. Looks like they are just trying to defend their king. The taxes that they make us

The Religious Message Of The Book Of Esther In The Bible
In the study of the Old Testament, one often comes up with the question of why the Book of Esther is
included in the canon even though there is no mention of God throughout the whole story. However,
since the Jews accepted it in the Hebrew Bible, many scholars wonder whether God did inspire the
writing of the story of Esther the Queen. Perhaps a more intriguing and fundamental question is: What
are some aspects of the story that express the religious messages in the teaching of the Bible? In fact,
scholars have answered this question with various opinions over time. The story of Esther was often
seen as so entertaining, so comical, and so subtle that to speak of its message can be profoundly
misleading (Levenson 12). Like most theological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As for the Book of Esther, there are four significant religious messages those same messages that
could be found anywhere else in the Hebrew canon that are worth looking into to understand why the
book is included in the Old Testament as well as why it is believed to be inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Throughout the empowerment of Queen Esther and the victory of the Jews against their enemies, the
Book of Esther teaches the danger of pleasing oneself, the responsibilities of higher authority, the
irony of fate and the faith in God s sovereignty. Before exploring the religious messages of the Book
of Esther to prove that the book is in fact inspired by the Holy Spirit, it is worth looking into the
historical and cultural settings of the story. The story is believed to be written in the Diaspora, late in

The Doctrine Of Original Sin In Roman Catholic Religion
Doctrines are used as a foundation to Christian beliefs. They serve to many churches as fundamentals
in the direction their members chose to live their lives. It is important to understand the historical
backgrounds of the doctrines that pertain to one s particular beliefs. I will be discussing this very
information for the doctrine of original sin. The doctrine of original sin mostly pertains to the Roman
Catholic religion. I will be covering when, where, and why the doctrine was originated. Original sin is
the theory that every man is born into sin because our mother and father have sinned. The definition
given by the Catholic Encyclopedia is: (1) the sin that Adam committed; (2) a consequence of this first
sin, the hereditary stain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So then it is no longer I that do it, but sin which dwells within me. For I know that nothing good
dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the
good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I
that do it, but sin which dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies
close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inmost self, but I see in my members another law
at war with the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin which dwells in my members.
Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? (Romans 7:15 24) The
solution to this problem is stated by Paul in these terms: For God has done what the law, weakened by
the flesh, could not do: sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned
sin in the flesh, in order that the just requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not
according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (Romans 8:3 4) Though the New Testament doctrine
of original sin is most clearly expressed by Paul, it is also implicit in the teachings of Jesus: for
example in such words as: And Jesus said to him, Why do you call me good? No one is good but God
alone. (Mark 10:18) and I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it
is that bears much fruit, for

in this quote that the Earth can take care of itself. The Earth has been through worse disasters than just
pollution, and extinction of species and plants. Roderick Nash, an environmentalist and activist, says
otherwise. In Nash published an essay, Island Civilization: A Vision For Human Occupancy of Earth

More than a million agricultural workers migrated to the United States in the early twentieth century.
The majority of these persons found work on small family farms in California; the white owners of
these farms welcomed cheap labor. Although most migrant workers in California today are of Mexican
descent, they originally came from all over the world: East and West Europe, China, Japan, Korea and
Latin America, along with Mexico. The shift to almost exclusively Mexican migrant workers in the

The Texas Rangers were infamous for their brutality. In the name of justice they executed thousands
of Mexican migrant workers without any repercussions. As early as the late 1800s, the Rangers began
their violent attempt at repression. Onofrio Baca, a Mexican migrant worker, was arrested in 1881 on
the suspicion of murder. The Rangers arrested him and promptly had him lynched, his body left to
hang for days in front of the courthouse. [3]
Though the Rangers were the most well known law enforcement agency attacking the Mexican
immigrant, they were not alone. For example, Jesus Romo was being held in custody by officers in
California when he was taken by a group of masked men and hanged. [4] The majority of the Mexican
Americans lynched between 1848 and 1870 were already in custody when they were taken and
hanged. Records indicate 473 out of every 100,000 Mexican migrant workers during this time period
died as victims of a lynching. [5]

immigration, yet groups in San Diego County, and other border towns are still fighting to embrace the
lynch culture created by the Texas Rangers and similar organizations. Groups such as The Arizona

The Physics of Football Essay
The Physics of Football
There is no question that everything people do in their lives involves physics. This is true from the
way we communicate to the way that we fight wars. In some cases the influence of the laws of physics
on our world are extremely apparent, such as in sports. Basketball, hockey, baseball and even cricket
involve physics. From the most basic motions players perform in the game, to different plays designed
by coaches, physics touches it all. These appearances of physics in the games that we play are
sometimes so subtle we don t even notice them. In other cases however, the impact of physics can be

For instance a wide receiver whose game depends greatly on being able to accelerate quickly will
prefer to play on an artificial surface with less friction. When a player gets in the open field he may be
capable of reaching his maximum momentum. When this player s momentum is suddenly changed
either with a great tackle or one hell of a hit the laws of physics concerning collisions, both elastic and
inelastic, come into play.
An elastic collision is a collision in which kinetic energy is conserved, such as when a running back is
hit so hard by the opposing team s linebacker on a lead draw play up the middle that the ball is forced
out of his arms. The fumbled ball then hits the turf and because of the elasticity of the collision it
bounces back up. Unlike an elastic collision, an inelastic collision does not conserve the kinetic energy
of the colliding objects (Kirkpatrick Wheeler 134). An example of an inelastic collision might be
when a player catches the ball (if he catches the ball) and the momentum of the ball is completely
stopped. However it is important to realize in this study of physics that a completely inelastic collision
is impossible to attain in the real world because the energy isn t really lost it is just converted into
different forms such as the sound the collision makes. So in a play where a ball carrier is in the open
field, a would be tackler would try to apply an impulse in an attempt to stop the other

They performed cruel experiments under the name of scientific inquiry. Hitler s physician, Karl
Brandt, said that the camps were the perfect laboratories for their experiments. The doctors in the
camps thought of the people as experiments and worthless. To them, using them for medical purposes
was a way to make their life meaningful, and if they died because of this nothing was lost. They put
gasoline inside of people and then shocked them with electricity to see if this would kill them, and
they took away food from prisoners and watched how long it would take to starve to death. According
to Tamara L. Roleff, the author of The Holocaust: Death Camps, The final objective was the
production of pure Germans in numbers sufficient to replace the Czechs, Hungarians, Poles, all of
whom were condemned to be destroyed, but who for the moment we re living on those territories

The European Parliament and The Notion of a Common...
European Union remembrance policy
This essay will analyse the policies that the European Parliament has introduced to create and endorse
the notion of a common European historical memory. The main institutions that have dealt with the
issue are the European Council, European Parliament s Committee on Culture and Education and the
Directorate General for Internal Policies.
First I shall discuss the reasons behind the necessity for a historical memory in the European context. I
will then give an overview of current European Union practices on establishing a pan European
historical memory and of the existing political initiatives regarding a common European historical
memory. The main emphasis shall be on the Europe for Citizens ... Show more content on

Since the Eastern Enlargement, efforts to keep history alive are supported in particular by the Europe
for Citizens Programme launched in 2006. The European Commission has extended the programme to
2014 2020 , which was presented in 2011. In the renewed programme, there is a greater focus on
remembrance and hence, a critical European culture of remembrance , rather than a standardised view
on Europe s past, is argued for.
2. The development of the Europe for Citizens Programme and the actors involved
The common European values influence the narrative and the creation of a certain culture of
remembrance. In supranational context, the two memory frameworks dominating official EU
discourses for the creation of a common European historical memory are Nazism and Stalinism. These
two regimes and their policies embody an absolute contrast to the ideals embraced in the European
project: peace, freedom, democracy, the rule of law, human rights, civil liberties and the right to
individual self determination. The aim of remembrance policies is an informed and self critical
European historical memory. This is done with shared European principles and universalised practices
as a basis, while acknowledging the multiplicity of different national pasts at the same time. In other
words, it would not be a homogenisation of the contents of different collective memories, but rather a
Europeanisation of moral and political attitudes and practices

Greg Cantor Research Paper
A famous German mathematician, Georg Cantor is known for discovering and building a hierarchy of
infinite sets according to their cardinal numbers. He is also known for inventing the Cantor set, which
is now a fundamental theory in mathematics. Georg Ferdinand Ludwig Philipp Cantor was born on
March 3, 1845 in Saint Petersburg, Russia, to Georg Waldemar Cantor and Maria Anna Bohm. His
father was a German Protestant and his mother was Russian Roman Catholic. Cantor was brought up
as a staunch Protestant and inherited the love for the arts from his parents. He displayed an aptitude
for music at a young age. He also excelled in his studies and was particularly drawn towards
mathematics. He received his education from the University of Berlin ... Show more content on

In addition, he established the importance of one to one correspondence in set theory. He suffered
from mental illness during the later years of his life, yet he remained actively involved in
mathematical works. He was awarded the Sylvester Medal, which is a highly prestigious award in
mathematics. Cantor was also interested in music and arts. It is said that Cantor was a spiritual
personality and believed that God communicated some of his mathematical discoveries to him.
Georg Cantor began his career by teaching in a Berlin girls school for a brief period of time. He then
accepted a position at the University of Halle, where he spent his entire career. He joined as a lecturer
in 1869 and was promoted to assistant professor in 1872, and full professor in 1879. He published a
series of ten papers from 1869 to 1873 in which he dealt with the theory of numbers. A colleague,
Heinrich Eduard Heine, recognized Cantor s capability and encouraged him to work on the theory of
trigonometric series. He started with the work performed on trigonometric series by the German
mathematician Bernhard Riemann a few years ago, and extended it to show that the function of a
complex variable can be represented in only one way by a

The Problem Of Social Psychology
Social psychology is the study of how people think, feel, and act as a result of being present among
others. At times, a direct contact is not required to fully influence a person. The imagined or implied
presence of others is sufficient to carry out a full effect on another person. Examples to portray how
the impact of others can have an authority over the way we function socially can be found almost
anywhere around us. The media is filled with many examples from recent headlines that may offer an
illustration of this phenomenon. In recent news, the National Public Radio (NPR), a non profit
membership media organization, aired an interview discussing Syria s bloody civil war. With more
than four million people who have fled the country thus far, it has easily been named one of the worst
refugee situations in history. Millions more have also been displaced within Syria. Although we rarely
hear from the people inside, NPR was able to air an interview it conducted with one of the citizens
who lives in the broken country. Saeed al Batal, a photographer and filmmaker who did not use his
real name for security reasons, reveals how horrific the experiences currently are in Syria. In this
paper, the transcript of the interview will be used portray how, even when situations are clearly
appalling and catastrophic, the presence of others effects people s contributions and willingness to
help. It will also be used to psychologically understand why people help, why people do not, when

The Main Idea Of Nickel And Dimed
1. What is the topic?
The main idea of Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America by Barbara Ehrenreich
demonstrates the complications and the way on how minimum wage workers survived during 1996 in
Florida, Maine, and in Minnesota when the welfare reform had an impact on minimum wage. Her goal
was to experience how to settle for rent, food, and bills while working in minimum salary. The idea of
this project came in mind when she discussed with Lewis Lapham, the editor of Harper s, about future
articles in magazines and then asked How does anyone live on the wages available to the unskilled?
How, in particular, we wondered, were the roughly four million women about to be booted into the
labor market by welfare reform going to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was struggling with the money since she had to spend most of it in rent.
3. Is the evidence to support the claim reliable?
After the week she spended with her coworkers, she had gained information on how each one of them
lives, Gail is sharing a room in a well known downtown flophouse for $250 a week, Claude...two
room apartment he shares with his girlfriend and two other and unknown person, Annette...lives with

docked boat, Tina, ... , and her husband are paying $60 a night for a room in the Days Inn, Joan, ... ,
lives in a van parked behind a shopping center at night and showers in Tina s motel room. (pg. 20 21).
The survey that was conducted by the author through her personal experience demonstrated that her
coworkers try to split rent in order to pay less and try to save money for the next payment for rent.
4. What do these details tell you about the writer s assumptions about the knowledge and experience
of readers?
The author s details about her personal experience demonstrated the harshal moments she had not
enough money for the rent. By also providing the coworkers life, the difficulties they had, the methods
that they did in order to pay less for rent by sharing their living space with a dear one or unknown.

Objective Morality
My purpose in writing this is to argue for the existence of an objective morality based entirely on
rational and scientific reasoning. By objective morality I do not simply mean that morality exists in
the sense that various societies consider various actions to be immoral. What I mean is that certain
actions are inherently right or wrong regardless of what any society thinks about them. In other words,
I mean that there is an objective morality which exists independently of human beliefs and human
civilization. There are many people who have the opinion that it is not possible to believe in such an
objective morality without also believing in concepts such as God or an eternal soul. I believe that
they are wrong. I will attempt to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to this perspective, rocks fell to the ground while steam rose because everything tends to go
to its natural place. If we do a more thorough examination, including all the cultures throughout all of
history, we will find an even larger variety of opinions regarding the law of gravity.
This does not, though, mean that there is no objective law of gravity which exists independently of
human society. The beliefs in gravity which I described are attempts by human societies to
approximate reality. Clearly, some approximations are better than others. Perhaps the current belief in
the curvature of space time is also incorrect and will later be replaced by an even better
approximation. However, most people would have no problem agreeing that the curvature of space
time explanation of gravity is a better approximation to reality than the explanations which came
before it.
All that this shows is that even though different cultures hold very different beliefs about a certain
issue, this does not necessarily imply that there is no objective reality behind these beliefs. The claim
which I will be arguing for is that this is the same for morality as it is for gravity. All the moral beliefs
which came before us and all the moral beliefs today are, in exactly the same way as in the case of
gravity, approximations to

Participant Observation Methods
I found that the participant observation method was the most helpful and easiest method to use. I was
able to talk with the firemen about their experiences and see how they interacted. I also worked out
with them and sat around talking with them. This method allowed me to get information about their
interactions because I could easily observe them talking amongst themselves and to me. One of the
downsides of this method was that I could not record information as I was observing. Writing down
what they were saying and what was going on would seem rude and would be hard to do. I had to wait
until leaving the firehouse before recording what happened. This led to more vague information
because of forgetting things. The phenomenological method

The Great Gatsby Feminine Power Essay Just under five years ago, on the 9th of October 2012, Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head, the bullet traveled through her neck and lodged in her shoulder. The Taliban had issued death threats towards Malala for her activism, such as going to her exam when girls were not permitted to receive education. Subsequently, in her defiance, Malala put herself in danger, nonetheless, the 15 year old was undeterred in her fight for what she believed in. • 3. Persuasive Essay On A Flat Tax System Wouldn t it be a perfect world if everyone paid their fair share of taxes? Shouldn t everyone have skin in the game? For example, if the tax rate was 10%, then the person earning $10,000 per year would pay $1,000 in taxes, and the person earning $100,000 per year would pay $10,000 in taxes. Does this sound too good to be true? Many complain that our current tax system is broken and there has to be a better tax system. During this last presidential campaign, the idea of a flat tax system was once again discussed as an option by one of the candidates. Over the years, many bills have been introduced to congress to change our tax system. Right now, Congress is debating on a new tax system. Our President is pushing for change as he realizes the current system is not going to get the deficit down. We may not see significant change this term, but it will be interesting to see how it all turns out. This paper will discuss what is wrong with our current system, the possible solution of adopting a flat tax system, the counter evidence of why a flat tax system is probably not the solution to our tax problem and why this evidence is right. Our current system is very complex, not efficient, biased, and basically not effective. Did you know the current tax code has over 9 million words? (books.google.com) (241 words) It s no wonder people want change. I think most would agree our current tax system needs revised. We hear on the news how big corporations pay little in ... Thesis: I will discuss why contraception and not only Natural Family Planning should be allowed by the Catholic Church because it helps prevents sexually transmitted infections and diseases and prevents millions of unwanted children from being born and then abandoned every year. Different forms of contraception have existed for hundreds of years, dating back to the Roman Empire. It was not until the 1950 s that a progesterone pill, synthesized from wild yams was created which could block ovulation (Gibson). In 1960, the United States Food and Drug Administration approved Enovid, an oral contraceptive pill (Gibson). The creation of this pill marked the biggest change in how contraceptive was viewed and its potential in American history. Even though other forms of contraception existed, those were more directed for male use only. This was one of the few methods that females could take and that actually worked. By 1965, almost 6.5 million women in America were on this method of contraceptive, which is most commonly known as the pill. At the time, state laws prohibited the use of contraceptives until 1965 when the Supreme Court unbanned these laws. The Catholic Church began to weight into this phenomenon and after the Supreme Court allowed the use of this method as safe and effective for couples, everyone thought the Church would accept it and allow individuals to make the decision about contraceptive for themselves. Unfortunately, in 1968 Paul IV released Humanae Vitae. In this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Repetition draws the listener s attention to particular words or phrases. In the song, Time of Your Life, the singer repeats the line, It s something unpredictable, but in the end it s right. I hope you had the time of your life. This line is repeated throughout the song multiple times. The singer is emphasizing the fact that anything can happen when you make your choice but in the end, you have to just relax and be happy. He wants the audience to really understand it. In the other song, the line, Move along, move along. Just to make it through The singer is repeating the term, Move along because that is the main message in this song. It is to move along when things seem bad. The singer wants the audience to really get the message and to feel good when they relate to this song. The critically acclaimed and commercially successful film, Spiderman 2, was hailed as a landmark film that illustrated the unfamiliar concept of a hero with an underlying humanity. Throughout the film, Peter Parker demonstrates a remarkable, organic character that makes him and his alter ego, Spiderman, accessible to a wide audience, allowing various age groups to easily identify and connect with him. This action packed clip is no exception to the fundamental theme of the sequel to the 2002 film, Spiderman. Despite a tight story space, the clip has been one of the enduring hallmarks of the film. Distinctively, an intriguing aspect of the clip lies in the fact that the protagonist does not undergo much personal transformation, thus indicating the static and rather flat nature of the character. Throughout the clip, Spiderman is simply portrayed as a hero attempting to perform his duty; he will either save the train or fail to do so. In contrast, throughout the entire length of the clip, the secondary characters the passengers undergo a rather radical transformation from being fearful, skeptical, and mocking to a fiercely loyal and trusting group. These facets may be inferred from the only person Spiderman directly communicates with during the entire ordeal: the train operator. Quite possibly, his initial fear in the statement, Oh my God, this is it! reflects all of the passengers perspectives of their present situation. When Spiderman initially fails to reduce the train s speed, this fear turns into mocking skepticism as stated by the old man and is indicative of the group s thoughts: Any more bright ideas? However, one can observe that the unbelieving operator is one of the first people to prevent Peter Parker from falling into the city street below, an indication of a character change. The gratefulness and trust that the passengers expressed can by observed by their symbolic gesture of bearing the comatose hero on their arms in solemn jubilation and respectful silence. The Signs Of Shopping By Malcolm Gladwell To be successful in a capitalistic government, you must be willing to step on the heads of those who are below you, and claim their successes as your own. Advertisements within our capitalistic culture act as a way to force the customer into buying what the corporate overlords want you to buy. Anne Norton, author of The Signs of Shopping is a heavily published author, and has earned many awards in her field. In her essay, she explains how businesses use advertisement techniques to increase the profits in a retail store. Malcolm Gladwell, the author of The Science of Shopping is a staff writer for the New Yorker. In his essay, he explains how Paco Underhill, a retail expert, taught many Forbes 500 companies how to create more opportunities to up sale to their customers. Norton shows how malls and other shopping outlets only want one demographic to shop in their stores, and Gladwell shows how stores utilize their internal structure to make more money. Both utilize a negative tone toward the business practices shown in the articles, and demonstrate the manipulation of the consumer with the usage of imagery within advertisements to show that capitalism is unethical. These projections were done by three methods such as the following: allocation, trend extrapolation, and cohort component. These projected processes and results can be elaborated by methods in the following sections. 2 Population Projection Methods 2.1 Allocation Allocation, this method uses larger region s population or projections and percentage of population of a smaller area in the larger region to estimate smaller area s population. Oak Park Township is located in Cook County, so the first step is to obtain the most recent population of Cook County and Oak Park Township and the projected population of Cook County in 2030. According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, using the population of each five year cohort in 2000, we projected the population excluding migration in 2010. Comparing the census and projected population in 2010, the10 year migration rates were estimated. So, with the migration rates, the migration of 2030 could be projected. Due to the projected births, deaths and migration in 2030, the projected population of Oak park Township in 2030 was shown in following Table 4. Comparatively speaking, the allocation and trend extrapolation methods require less data and simply assume current distributions and the trend will continue. However, the cohort component method relies on more data and assumptions than the others. It can be rationally projected. That is to say, if obtaining the data and assumptions is not difficult, the cohort component could provide a reliable projection. 3 Conclusion The results of the projected population of Oak Park Township in 2030 by different methods were distinctly shown in Table 6. These projections have quite a bit of difference. According to the above comparison of three methods, the cohort component should be the reliable one. In conclusion, the population of Oak Park Township is likely to see a reduction, compared with 2010. The population is projected from 51,878 to 45,187, a decrease of 6,691 or 12.9 ... How were the Nazis able to accomplish such a feat in a nation where antisemitism had not been as prevalent? Aside from forcibly introducing antisemitic policy into Poland, the Nazis relied on fear and self interest to accomplish their goals. Perhaps a more intriguing and fundamental question is: What are some aspects of the story that express the religious messages in the teaching of the Bible? For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin which dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inmost self, but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin which dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? (Romans 7:15 24) The solution to this problem is stated by Paul in these terms: For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do: sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the just requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (Romans 8:3 4) Though the New Testament doctrine of original sin is most clearly expressed by Paul, it is also implicit in the teachings of Jesus: for example in such words as: And Jesus said to him, Why do you call me good? When a player gets in the open field he may be capable of reaching his maximum momentum. When this player s momentum is suddenly changed either with a great tackle or one hell of a hit the laws of physics concerning collisions, both elastic and inelastic, come into play. An elastic collision is a collision in which kinetic energy is conserved, such as when a running back is hit so hard by the opposing team s linebacker on a lead draw play up the middle that the ball is forced out of his arms. The fumbled ball then hits the turf and because of the elasticity of the collision it bounces back up. Unlike an elastic collision, an inelastic collision does not conserve the kinetic energy of the colliding objects (Kirkpatrick Wheeler 134). An example of an inelastic collision might be when a player catches the ball (if he catches the ball) and the momentum of the ball is completely stopped. However it is important to realize in this study of physics that a completely inelastic collision is impossible to attain in the real world because the energy isn t really lost it is just converted into different forms such as the sound the collision makes. If we do a more thorough examination, including all the cultures throughout all of history, we will find an even larger variety of opinions regarding the law of gravity. This does not, though, mean that there is no objective law of gravity which exists independently of human society. The beliefs in gravity which I described are attempts by human societies to approximate reality. Clearly, some approximations are better than others. Perhaps the current belief in the curvature of space time is also incorrect and will later be replaced by an even better approximation. However, most people would have no problem agreeing that the curvature of space time explanation of gravity is a better approximation to reality than the explanations which came before it. All that this shows is that even though different cultures hold very different beliefs about a certain issue, this does not necessarily imply that there is no objective reality behind these beliefs. The claim which I will be arguing for is that this is the same for morality as it is for gravity. One of the downsides of this method was that I could not record information as I was observing. Writing down what they were saying and what was going on would seem rude and would be hard to do. I had to wait until leaving the firehouse before recording what happened. This led to more vague information because of forgetting things. The phenomenological method ...
