Shifting Narrative Perspective In Wild Thorns By Sahar...
In the novel, Wild Thorns, written by Sahar Khalifeh there are a number of examples of shifting
narrative perspective, which helps Sahar Khalifeh give a more balanced description and view of the
Occupation for the reader. Sahar Khlaifeh conveys shifting narrative perpective through dialogue and
internal monologue. In particular we see different and conflicting views on the Occupation between
Usama and Adil, who are both cousins, with a conflicting relationship. The dialogue between the two
characters provide the two different perspectives, we are able to see the internal thinking of both
characters and see how this influences our view on the Occupation. Also, the use of shifting narrative
perspective by the writer helps give the reader a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All culture gone! All integrity gone! Sink, Palestine... (pg 69). In this example Usama expresses his
opinion on the Occupation and the lack of effort shown by Adil to do something about the change in
the Occupation. There are more examples of exclamatory statements, which helps show the reader the
opposing opinions towards the Occupation. All culture gone! All integrity gone! This example really
puts emphasis on the fact that there is disagreement and disgust from Usama towards the Occupation.
Sahar Khalifeh uses exclamatory statements well in this novel to show characters opinions. Another
example of internal thoughts are shown, this time with Adil, adil was looking at him in digust! . In this
part of the text it refers to Adil looking at Usama in disgust. This is very useful in showing that both
characters have conflict between each other which is based on the Occupation and the contrasting
opinions from each other. However, through the use of internal monologue we can see the different
views on the same situation. Theres more than one dimension to the picture . This is a qoutation which

Determining The Chemical Formula For Two Hydrates Through...
The goals of the experiment are to determine the chemical formulas for two hydrates through
dehydration. Introduction: A chemical equation demonstrates the quantity of atoms of every
component that make up the compound. The atomic proportion of components in the compound is the
same as the molar proportion of those components. This information can be applied to solve for the
mass of one mole of a compound by including the molar masses of the constituent components.
Hydrates are combinations that are salts with water particles synthetically clung to them. Really, the
holding is intriguing in that the water particles bond specifically to the metal cation. Hydrates fall in
an expansive class called coordinated compounds in view of the sort ... Show more content on

We could have possibly achieved our expected results if we had allowed the Zinc Sulfate Hydrate to
cool down for those extra four minutes. The experimental error in this lab included the question
whether the digital scale was as precise as it could be, how the cooling time affected the water in the
hydrates, and any miscalculations that could have occurred. The digital scale could have been more
precise since they are more precise scales that could deliver more accurate masses in this lab. The
cooling time caused error when calculating the moles of water because the actual result was seven
moles instead of five moles which was what was calculated. The calculations could have been
potentially miscalculated particularly due to the significant figures used in the data. The method for
this experiment can be improved by maybe using another object rather than the crucible to allow a
faster cooling time that way the calculations for the analysis have less of a chance of

The Destruction from the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami and...
The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami was one of the deadliest and most destructive in recent history. It was
even catastrophic for a country like Maldives that never experienced disasters of such scale. While
some of the islands in Maldives were completely destroyed and a significant number of lives lost; the
damages to economy, infrastructure, environment and human psyche was immeasurable (Pardasani,
2006, p. 80). Having only dealt with storm surges and localized flooding, there were no operational
plans or capacity to deal with a disaster of this magnitude in Maldives (Government of Maldives, et
al., 2005, p. 9). Despite some organizational shortcomings, mostly owing to their lack of experience in
managing large scale disasters and limited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maldivian Scouts were the first among NGOs to respond by taking initiative to report to operation
centre in Male. Scouts across the country were called to be on alert. The cadets and scouts remained in
assisting aid workers in managing temporary accommodation and other delegated tasks. Following the
destructions in islands, communities that were not affected by the tsunami took the initiative in
supplying basic necessities to the neighbouring islands. A national plea for aid was broadcasted on
national and private media (both television and radio station) and updates of tsunami and its affect
were continuously reported on media channels (Haleem, A. Yusuf, A., 2004) The only local NGOs
with enough expertise in community outreach were Society for Health Education and Care Society
which later took a leading role in psychosocial support and counselling in some focused communities
(Pardasani, 2006).
Prior to tsunami, the international organizations in Maldives were very limited. The organizations that
existed were primarily focusing on education and health development (Brown, 2005). International aid

Death and the Afterlife
Opening paragraph{
}
Deathly Hallows/Silmarillion
{
While death is explained in different manners in each story, they share a lot of the same themes and
messages.
To get a good look at how death is represented in Lord of the Rings, we must take a look at the
accompanying book Silmarillion. It describes the creation of Ea and Middle Earth, as well as the
forging of the rings***. In the beginning, Eru Iluvitar(God) created 15 beings to help him materialize
his vision for the world. From these beings came all of the different races of Middle earth. Iluvatar
gave a gift to each of his Children. Each of these races coexist on the same Earth, but all live very
different lives***. Elves, the first Children of Ilúvatar, are given the gift of immortality. As such they
cannot die of natural causes such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The books are written with the understanding that death is inevitable for all beings, magical and non
magical alike. The only exception to this rule is the phoenix. At the end of it s lifespan, the phoenix
burns away it s old body and is reborn in it s own ashes. The certainty of death in Harry Potter is best
represented in The Tale of Three Brothers, a fairy tale written by Beetle the Bard. While the story was
originally meant for children, it is widely believed to represent the legend of The Deathly Hallows and
mastery over Death. The story tells of three wizards who first met Death after using magic to cross a
river that would have otherwise killed them. Death feigned congratulated them and offered each of the
brothers a prize for outsmarting him. In an attempt to abuse the reward given by Death, the first
brother asked for a wand so powerful that it can t be beaten. The second brother followed suit, and
requested that Death give him the power to resurrect the dead. The third brother was a little wiser and
asked for a way to flee

Low Probability Of Soil Contamination
a) Need to find if there is any place within the project site where there is a high probability of soil
contamination (maybe next to bins?). The old paints manufactured in 1980s will be having more lead
in it. If lead mixed paints are used after few years the paint will peels off. It can happen due to some
manual activities too like stripping, sand blasting and scrubbing on it. Lead paint had not been used on
the outside of the site or the places nearer to the site. Otherwise the peeled off paint will be
contaminating the soil there (Raymond et al, 2011). Whether pressure treated wood was used to build
the structures of the site? Then the site will be having lot of soil contamination (Panagos et all, 2013).

If there is a presence of gas stations, fuel tanks nearby to the site then there will be a definite chance of
petroleum leaks and that will contaminate the soil there (Panagos et all , 2013). If there is any
automobile industries and machine repair shops nearby then Petroleum products , PAHs,
trichloroethylene, rubber products, metals like chromium , lead , molybdenum and used batteries will
be dumped to the soil and the soil will be contaminated due to that. If there is any garbage dumping
stations then the chemical dumps and electronic dumps will contaminate the soil (DR Baldwin et al,
1999). b) Is there any chance that the selected options can contribute to soil contamination (through
infiltration)? Yes. Almost all the above types will cause soil contamination. Concentration of the lead
in the soil is one form of contamination that leads to many forms of contamination. Pesticides are
chemicals. These chemicals are used as insecticides, herbicides, fungicides and all types of poisons
like rodent poisons (S.C.Reed et al, 1995). Lot of researches are showing that the commercial and
industrial activities that involves chemicals causes contamination. High traffic areas are getting
contaminated mainly due to emitted gas from the vehicles (P.H.Raven et al, 1998). Pressure treated
wood are used to form decks, swing sets, play spaces. Arsenic, especially chromatic copper arsenate or

Harry Potter And The Sorcerer s Stone By J.k. Rowling
Most people have a book that they truly love to read, whether it s fiction or non fiction. However, the
content behind the book cover of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone written by J.K. Rowling,
seems to have stirred up quite the predicament for the schoolboard. Mrs. Anna Davis the mother of
Logan Davis, wants to pull the book and keep it out of the hands of the students. Meanwhile, Mr. Greg
Hartmann an English teacher at the school and the one who assigned Logan the book assignment in
the first place, as well as some of the parents of the other students want to keep the book accessible to
everyone. As a member of the school board, we need to look at both sides of the case in order to come
to an appropriate conclusion. We will first review Mrs. Anna Davis s claim and discuss why the book
should be pulled from the school s library. Then we will look over to Mr. Greg Hartmann s side of the
case and discuss why he should be allowed to keep the book not only for the library but for his class
assignment s as well. Finally, we will look at a variety of possible solutions to try and come to an
agreement between Mrs. Davis and Mr. Hartmann sides of the book banning case.
Mrs. Davis initially complained about the homework assignment that was given to Logan Davis her
son. Logan is a student in Mr. Hartmann s English class and was asked to write about the characters in
the fictional story of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone. Mrs. Davis has given her reasons as to
why the book

The Issue Of Time Can Never Be Overemphasized
The issue of time can never be overemphasized, to me, every human being is unique, and so is with
everything they do. Since we are the expert of our own lives, how we experience and interpret time
solely depends on us. That is to say, not everyone on the planet sees the idea of time in the same way. I
know that as there are distinctive objective scales of physical time, there are diverse cultural scales of
subjective time. However, what is very common in every culture is that we tend to see time in line that
is we call things of yesterday or years ago things of the past and things of tomorrow things in the
future . Although the past, present or future has different meanings to different peoples, but there is a
preconceived notion that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This short story talks about a book that is also called The Garden of Forking Paths. Yu Tsun meets a
man called Dr, Stephen Albert who showed him a letter written by his grandfather, Tu si pen. Before
this encounter, Yu Tsun reflects early in the story, everything happens to a man precisely now. Century
follows century, and things happen only in the present (64). With this, Yu Tsun portrays time in a
linear manner. That is, people experience time as an issue of present minutes, one after the other.
When the minute is experienced, on the other hand, it no longer exists. Because of this, the past is no
more genuine than the future. Both exist no place but in the human mind: the past fits in with the
domain of memory, while the future has a place with the domain of imagination.
Nevertheless, when Yu Tsun arrives at Dr. Stephen Albert s home, the notion of time as linear is
challenged. Albert explained to Yu Tsun that Ts ui Pen his ancestor did not believe in a uniform,
absolute time. He believed in an infinite series of times, in a growing, dizzying net of divergent,
convergent, and parallel times (69) .In this development of time, all presents, pasts, and future exist at
the same time. Further, every choice an individual makes prompts diverse future. Tu si Pen made a
decision that led to several futures, and here is what he did; In all fiction, when a man is faced with
diverse alternatives, he picks one and eliminates the others, but, Ts ui Pen,

Refrigerator Mother Theory
Refrigerator Mother Theory. Initially, Leo Kanner (1943), a child psychiatrist at the Johns Hopkins
University, introduced the term early infantile autism in 1943. He considered that the refrigerator
mother triggered early infantile autism. In other words, he believed that the autism was developed
after the birth, and lack of parental warmth triggered children to become isolated from the society.
Consequently, those children who did not receive enough care exhibited autistic like feature, meaning
alone or self in Greek. Furthermore, this idea was strongly supported by Bruno Bettelheim, Austrian
born American child psychiatrist, for two decades. He similarly claims that the autism was caused
from mother withheld appropriate affection toward their children and failed to make a good
connection with them during infancy (Bettelheim, 2010). Moreover, he states that weak or absent
father would likely cause autism, since children would not receive enough paternal love. In both cases,
psychiatrists in mid twentieth century believed that the autism was developed from children not
receiving enough love, warmth and care from their parents. Moreover, they believed that good
parenting could alleviate children from becoming ASD.
Autism and Vaccination. Another postnatal theory is a vaccination theory. Andrew Wakefield
published an article in the medical journal, Lancelot, reporting that the measles, mumps and rubella
(MMR) vaccine would trigger the autism spectrum disorder (Godlee,

advantage of widespread experience of maintaining quality with given limited resources, funds and

extensive funds available to the private hospitals to achieve a higher social health. Moreover, the
public hospitals have an edge over private hospitals in communicating, coordinating and taking care of
patients at a community level. If the private and public hospitals join hands, both of them will enjoy

Gerburt Des Monicakinds Poem Analysis
Grammar can be defined as a linguistic system that exists in the mind of a speaker of a language, a
written description of a language, and an abstract notation of an ideal set of rules (of correct or proper
grammar) which can be encoded in a handbook (Studies in English Grammar Handbook, pg.7).
Monica Ferrell s, Of the Irresoubleness of Diamonds, Harmless, As Recalled by a Fairy Tale, Gerburt
des Monicakinds, and Beautiful Funeral each employ four different grammatical issues one of them
being the known new contract. By incorporating these grammatical issues into her work, Ferrell
intends to develop a clear and sharp image to ignite the imagination of her readers. The poems Of the
Irresoubleness of Diamonds, Harmless, As Recalled by a Fairy Tale, Gerburt des Monicakinds and
Beautiful Funeral were written by poet and novelist Monica Ferrell. Monica Ferrell was born in New
Dehli. She earned her BA from Harvard University and MFA from Columbia University (Poetry
Foundation). Ferrell discusses the role of uncertainty in her poems. She states, I m trying to let
something that wants to come into being do so poetry as uncovering, rather than invention or rhetoric,
and a form of devotion and service . (Poetry Foundation). By using several grammar techniques
Ferrell paints a bright image for her readers to ponder upon. Ferrell is an atypical poem and uses a
variety of forms to convey her simple and lyrical tone throughout them. One of the reasons that

Literary Elements In Marigolds By Eugenia Collier
Marigolds Essay Do you remember of your childhood and can describe detail by detail everything?
The author Eugenia Collier uses flashback, imagery, and diction to help create the voice of Lizbeth.
This story was written as a flashback because Lizbeth the main character was remembering all and
telling it. She explained some of the things in detail and used a lot of wording too. In all the story
Lizbeth used literary elements.
In the beginning of the story Lizbeth says, When I think of the home of my youth, all I seem to
remember is dust... (Collier 1). This quote is a evidence of how Lizbeth is using flashback to start the
story. She is going back to her youth life and starts to remember everything. After that she is having
some memories that make her feel something. Whenever the memory of those marigolds flashes
across my mind, a strange nostalgia comes with it and remains long after the pictures has fared
(Collier 2). In this quote she is having memories of the marigolds and I think she feels nostalgia
because of the incident that happened back then. Although in some of the parts of her story you ...

In most of the story the characters are describing things in detail that we can imagine. For example, I
remember fishing for minnows in a muddy creek and watching sadly as they eluded my cupped hands,

memory that she is remembering. Almost at the end of the story when Lizbeth was destroying Mrs.
Lottie s marigolds a quote that is describing imagery is I leaped furiously into the mounds of
marigolds and pulled madly, trampling and pulling and destroying the perfect yellow blooms (Collier

is. The author used many more words to create imagery in the short story

The Exclusivity of the Art Market
That which costs little is less valued, said novelist Miguel de Cervantes (Saavedra, 1819). A
phenomenon very true to the art markets, one might say. Elitism and exclusivity drive the art world.
Value of art works is socially and subjectively constructed, based on one s concocted rationales of
what is significant and what is not. Giving art works the title of commodities, hence, is rather trivial,
particularly due to the nature and quality of these works. One cannot, however, deny that in the case of
contemporary art, capitalism and the art world seem to run hand in hand.
Ben Lewis 2009 documentary The Great Contemporary Art Bubble provides a pretty clear picture of
money and power concentrated in an unregulated art market where ... Show more content on

The documentary presented examples of British art world businessman Charles Saatchi who triggered
and supported the extraordinary prices for the works of Damien Hirst, as well as collector Jose
Mugrabi, whose collection of 800 Warhols indubitably amounts to cornering the market. (Lewis,
2009)
Art markets are notorious for their lack of transparency and information asymmetries provide several
opportunities for immoral activities to take place. (Velthuis, 2011) On the day of the declaration of
bankruptcy by Lehman Brothers, the worst financial crisis in history, Damien Hirst sold his art at a
record price of £70 million, in an auction at Sotheby s. It was apparent, however, that Hirst and his
colleagues had manipulated the sale prices by engaging dummy bidders into the auction sales. (Lewis,
2009) Thus, while the rest of the economy was slowly falling apart, the contemporary art bubble kept
on inflating, bigger than ever before. It was the peak of the contemporary art bubble, and also the start
of its downfall. A month after this triumph, the contemporary art market crashed, dropping by 40% in
November 2008 and 75% by February 2009. (Art Market Trends, 2011)
Additionally, budget and subsidies cuts for cultural institutes were seen all over Europe and UK,
following the recession of 2008. As a result, many galleries and institutions had to close shop. In
entirety, the art market experienced a huge loss of confidence due to the financial

Substance Abuse And Low Education
It is no doubt that the Appalachian region is discredited of its merits, despite the perceived negative
social problems associated with the area. What many outsiders of the area fail to acknowledge is that
many of the same problems of Appalachia plague other regions of the United States as well. In
Appalachia, there are many problems that can be associated with the area and usually the people from
the area are grouped into a poor environment a lower socioeconomic class. Across the region there is a
wide social problem on low education rates and relatively high substance abuse statistics. What others
also fail to see is that the Appalachian region has a plethora of services to offer along with a rich
heritage embedded in its people. The good people of the community have worked together to
overcome the past and current issues of substance abuse and low education by forming different
groups to offer for the public to take part in.
Substance abuse is heavily associated with the region of Appalachia. Appalachian people are looked at
negatively for being categorized with drug and alcohol addictions. The issue has increased since coal
mining and other industrial work places are declining in the area (Sodomick, 2014). People resort to
drug trade to make profit since the career field is declining in the area. Because substance abuse has
become so popular, overdose and countless deaths have occurred more often as well. The past few

us which make us feel antithetical to what we are supposed to feel when a police officer is around.
That is why in some cases where the victim was at gunpoint, they were afraid to act or make a sudden

In 1405, King Henry IV got sick and Prince Hall took over most of his duties until his death in 1413.
Prince Hal became King, took on the name of King Henry V. King Henry V fell into his role as king
quickly, and got involved in other battles prior to the Battle of Agincourt that prepared him for that
battle (Middle Ages.org).
King Henry V wanted to continue the negotiations with France and made some demands that the
French thought was ridiculous. King Henry V was willing to give up some items in the Treaty but only
if France paid 1.6 million crowns; part of the debt owed his ancestors for the capture of John II. In
addition, he wanted the France to give up Aquitaine, Normandy, Touraine, Anjou, Brittany, Flanders
and other territories. King Henry would marry the Princess of France, King Charles VI daughter and
received pay of 600,000 crowns (Keegan 80).
France refused to negotiate; so King Henry asked the Parliament to tax France for the inheritance that
they owed him. France ignored England s demands. On April 14, 1415, King Henry V asked the
Parliament to sanction war against France. The Parliament agreed and the Battle with France will soon
follow. England was preparing for the Battle of Agincourt (Middle Ages.org).
King Henry V began to inspire his army with speeches that gave them pride, courage and hope.

Understanding Color
Since the age of Aristotle, great minds have questioned the various natures of reality: how a concept
works and how humans perceive it. The fundamentals of colour were one such mystery. As an
unstable property, the secrets of colour have eluded philosophers, artists, and scientists for centuries,
until 1666 when Sir Isaac Newton discovered the properties of light. Thanks to visionaries such as
Newton, Hermann von Helmholtz, and Georges Seurat modern understanding of colour can be
explained in a variety of manners and can now be categorized according to medium. Seperated into
light and pigment , colours are viewed as individual entities as their application and combinations
create alternate visual features that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though not the socially best example, television is one of the practical applications of pigment
primaries in modern society. Colour application in art can best be analyzed in the context of
Impressionist Art. Specifically, looking at Neo Impressionist artist Georges Seurat ( 1859 1891)2
shows the practical applications that colour theory has in a purely artistic context. Chromoluminarism,
also known as Pointillism, is a form of painting that is completely composed of dots strategically
placed in close fashion to create an image. Influenced by Ogden Rood s book titled Modern
Chromatics (1879), Seurat created the foremost example of chromoluminarism in current art history:
A Sunny Afternoon at the Grande Jatter 1886. Apart from the work s incredible complexity, it
demonstrates another concept in the ways humans view colour. Colour is understood as unstable,
because of the way it reacts to both quantities of light as well as other colours. Primary and Secondary
colours are the foundations of what is known as Complementary colours which, on a colour wheel, are
opposite one another. Placing complementaries next to, or on top of one another, will visually alter
their properties for the viewer, despite the fact that neither colour has changed at all. However, this is
not limited to complementary colours; primary, secondary, and tertiary colours can all change
properties when coupled with another colour. Seurat utilizes this concept in his work

Planarian Segmentation Analysis
Planarian Segmentation and Regeneration Summary We started out by picking our worms out of their
original containers then transferring them to a petri dish, then pouring in enough spring water via a
pipette to sustain the worm, without providing too much as it could potentially escape. The water was
necessary otherwise, the worm would dry up and die. We then took a small razor blade and made our
initial incisions, having the option to cut once or cut up to three times. I chose to cut my planarian
only once, without the assistance of a microscope and I used a small ruler before making my initial cut
and then shortly after. I had originally predicted my worm s head portion would grow to be bigger

On March 5, 1861 the day after President Lincoln inauguration of the United States, The president
received a message (Beringer, Why the South lost the Civil War). In attempt by the confederate
government to settle differences with the union were sponged by Lincoln and the confederate felt it
could no longer tolerate a foreign force in its territory (Goldfield, 2002). Lincoln ingeniously devised
a plan that would case the Confederates to fire the first shot and hoped to inspire the states that had not
yet seceded to unite in effort to restore the union (Goldfield, 2002). Major Robert Anderson, who
commanded the United States forces at Charleston, made the decision to withdraw from the land and
forts surrounding Charleston to the harbor fortress of Fort Sumter because of the dangerous situations

the opposing side, empiricists believe culture influences learning. Empiricists take the position that all

A symmetrical face may be an indicator of an individual that is resistant to diseases and able to
maintain normal development ( D.I. Perrett et al.). The goal of makeup is to create a symmetrical face,
because the human face differs slightly from side to side. The more symmetrical a person s face is the
more attractive the person may appear. Makeup can really change facial features to look more
attractive, which is why the makeup industry is so big. Humans are attracted to those with
symmetrical faces around the world no matter the age. For example, among young and old from North
America, Europe, Asia and Africa, studies have shown there is something about symmetry that makes
a person more attractive ( The biological rules of attraction 2008). Healthy genes are important to
reproduce healthy babies. A partner with healthy genes has a symmetrical face .... symmetry is linked
to healthy genes and people who show a preference for a symmetrical partners enhance their own
chances of reproductive success ( The Biological Rules of Attraction 2008). When looking at
biological predispositions humans will naturally be attracted to certain features because of survival of
the fittest. Measures of symmetry in the human body and face correlates with attractiveness (Perrett et
al. 1999). Correlations can lead scientists to finding out the truth. The biological predisposition to
reproduce will influence who women are attracted to greatly during ovulation. For example, The
Biological Rules of Attraction stated that women s preference for symmetrical men is greatest during
ovulation, suggesting the quality is strongly linked to reproductive fitness (2008). This correlation
shows that females are attracted to men with symmetrical faces because it increases the chance of
reproduction. This idea supports that, as humans, we are ingrained to look for a partner that will

computing computers. This will remain so in the future and will only allow computers to become
faster and more reliable.
In order to understand the impact of multiprocessors, it is important to understand what they are and
what multiprocessing is. According to _________ Critcklow, author of _______________, the
definition of multiprocessing is independent and simultaneous processing accomplished by the use of
several duplicate hardware units. This definition is one way to look at what multiprocessing is;
however, __________ Baer, author of ___________, gives another definition of multiprocessing.
According to Baer, The ANSI Vocabulary of Information Processing defines multiprocessing as a
system, broadly, as a system composed of two (or more) processing units under integrated control.
Both definitions though slightly different align showing what multiprocessing truly is; the only
difference is the complexity of their explanations. The computer industry has been using
multiprocessors since computers were first introduced to the public. These were implemented so early
in computers because there are so many advantages using them. Even in the early stages of
multiprocessors, they were still faster than uniprocessors. According to _________ Barney, author of
_________, an advantage of using multiprocessors is that in theory, throwing more resources at a task

History of Cryptography
In the history of cryptography, the Enigma was a portable cipher machine used to encrypt and decrypt
secret messages. More precisely, Enigma was a family of related electro mechanical rotor machines —
comprising a variety of different models. The Enigma was used commercially from the early 1920s
on, and was also adopted by the military and governmental services of a number of nations — most
famously by Nazi Germany before and during World War II. The German military model, the
Wehrmacht Enigma, is the version most commonly discussed. The machine has gained notoriety
because Allied cryptologists were able to decrypt a large number of messages that had been
enciphered on the machine. The intelligence gained through this source — ... Show more content on

For example, the pin corresponding to the letter E might be wired to the contact for letter T on the
opposite face. The complexity comes from the use of several rotors in series — usually three or four —
and the regular movement of the rotors; this provides a much stronger type of encryption. When
placed in the machine, a rotor can be set to one of 26 positions. It can be turned by hand using a
grooved finger wheel which protrudes from the internal cover when closed, as shown in Figure 2. So
that the operator knows the position, each rotor has an alphabet tyre (or letter ring) attached around the
outside of the disk, with 26 letters or numbers; one of these can be seen through a window, indicating
the position of the rotor to the operator. In early Enigma models, the alphabet ring is fixed; a
complication introduced in later versions is the facility to adjust the alphabet ring relative to the core
wiring. The position of the ring is known as the Ringstellung ( ring setting ). The rotors each contain a
notch (sometimes multiple notches), used to control the stepping of the rotors. In the military versions,
the notches are located on the alphabet ring. The Army and Air Force Enigmas came equipped with
several rotors; when first issued there were only three. On 15 December 1938 this changed to five,
from which three were chosen for insertion in the machine. These were marked with Roman numerals
to distinguish them: I, II, III, IV and V, all with single notches

responsible use of marijuana by adults, and to serve as an advocate for consumers to assure they have

claims that their support of marijuana legalization is the result of the cost of marijuana prohibition
enforcement to the taxpayers and the more than 740,000 arrests per year for marijuana related
offenses.(NORML, 2014). Pro marijuana activist, Brittney Guest of Oklahoma City, has a similar

Foundation of Mythology Short Answers
It s a Myth. A term commonly used today but what does it mean? It is a term used to describe the
questions humans cannot answer such as the explanation of the meaning of the universe or why we are
here. Myths reflect human nature, with its needs and desires, hopes and fears (Rosenberg, 2006).
Academically myths are studied to understand the anthropology of past cultures. My definition of a
myth is tales or stories passed down from generation to generation that gives us our beliefs and
guiding principles which we use to determine how we will interact with the world.

Religion and mythology are intertwined as many cultural religious beliefs were and are based on
mythological stories. The bible is a historical pass down of stories or myths as it relates to Christianity.
These myths or religious teachings are important to humans and their ability to cope with their daily
tribulations because it gives them a sense of someone or something greater than them that they hope
will guide them through whatever they are dealing with. This was evident with prisoner of war who
initially went into captivity as atheists and found out they needed to believe in something greater and
came out of captivity having found some type of religion.
Mythology still holds a place in today s contemporary pop culture because if you look at the things
people do in their lives you will still see mythological influences in them. Such as, a newlywed couple
may have dreams of the stereotypical desire of a large house, large family with the proverbial white
picket fence around it. This couple may not have ever experienced any of that yet cultures has passed
down the idea of that being the pinnacle of a successful marriage and family and if you get that, than
you are almost guaranteed happiness. The truth is that many will never reach anything close to that
because of external in internal changes to that couple. Although in American society today, we assume
people are more educated and less

The MIS helps to provide decision makers with information that they should have to make effective

Conflict Resolution And Resolving Workplace Conflicts
Conflict Resolution
Conflicts are inevitable. It is necessary for the advanced practice nurse to have skills in approaching
conflicts, negotiations, and resolutions (Hamric, Hanson, Tracy, Grady, 2014). According to Hamric et
al. (2014), you do not have to feel pressured to instantly agree with other teammates; however, be
respectful and listen intently and identify what you are able to offer to the team.
Conflicts occur because of the different points of view. They can also happen because of various
morals, values, and work ethic. In a multinational team there is bound to be conflicts. Those conflicts
will transpire and require resolution. Problem solving with negotiations can lead to a quick resolution.
Communication
Communication is essential with resolving workplace conflicts. Communicate clearly and frequently.
No employee wants to be uninformed or left out of the loop, especially regarding important decisions.
Communicating with each other not only helps everyone to do a better job, it reduces stress and
increases job performance (Lee, 2008).

steers/heifers, and feedlot cattle, eructs via belching 117 pounds (53 kilograms) of methane (CH4) per
head per year, according to 2006 guidelines from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
The ruminant animal is unique because of its four stomach compartments: reticulum, rumen, omasum
and abomasum. The function of the rumen as a fermentation vat and the presence of certain bacteria
promote the development of gases. These gases are found in the upper part of the rumen with CO2 and
CH4 making up the largest portion (Table 1).
The proportion of these gases is dependent on rumen ecology and fermentation balance. Typically, the
proportion of carbon dioxide is two to three times that of CH4, although a large quantity of CO2 is
reduced to CH4. The eructation of gases via belching is important in bloat prevention but is also the
way CH4 is emitted into the atmosphere. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change (IPCC), methane is more than 20 times as effective as CO2 at trapping heat in the atmosphere/
global warming potential. The U.S.

Issues In The Ballet World

Research Paper Issues in the Ballet World
The world of ballet is generally seen as the art of stick thin, white, high class girls dressed in pointe
shoes, glamorous tutus, and tiaras, dancing with their prince in the spotlight. Considering the history
of ballet, it is not surprising that it has gained this reputation. The term ballet blanc originates from the
excessive use of white in many professional ballets. As glamorous as it is, ballet has been considered
racist since many non white dancers do not seem to fit the body type standards created by George
Balanchine. This ideal body type describes what is perceived to be the perfect ballet body. In recent
years, the issues of ballet s lack of diversity and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even now, ballets are considered an art form that only the decently wealthy can ever enjoy. With all
the sparkling diamonds and jewels, pointe shoes, glamorous makeup, extravagant theaters, and
costumes, it is not surprising that wealth is also commonly associated with ballet. The high ticket
prices serve as the main reason why very few people other than the rich are exposed to the art, thus
discouraging people of a lower economic status to ever experience it. For instance, to see something
as iconic as the Nutcracker, one ticket could start around $100 $150. In order to take classes, get the
proper attire, buy costumes, and makeup, it could cost families quite a lot of money, even in a small
local company. Bigger companies, such as the New York City Ballet have classes that start at about
$100 a class, and since many professional/semi professional dancers are required to take a class every
day of the week, it would be roughly $700 for a week, if that dancer only takes one class a day. This
high rate for classes limits how many people are able to partake in ballet, but even if someone with a
diverse background is able to pay this price, they might still be turned away from companies and
productions since some companies do not accept minorities. It is not the fact that there are fewer
minorities in the US that could contribute to the lack of color in ballet, in fact, it is the complete
opposite. The race demographics of the US from the 1980 s to around 2010 show that there has been a
5.07% increase of people of Spanish descent, a 1.08% increase of African Americans, and a constant
increase of people who are of Asian descent. Even with these increases in numbers, most companies
have not become more diverse, but while some companies have evolved, not many have changed

The Pros And Cons Of Bullying
In this world of negativity, I believe that you should stay positive. When I was in elementary school, I
used to get bullied for being bigger than all the other kids. I didn t understand why was I getting
bullied, but I was still nice. I did what I was supposed to do to maintain good grades and pass all my
classes. Staying positive in a world full of mean people can take you as far, as you allow it too.
Being bullied made me feel like I wasn t good enough. I was called names for being fat and not
dressing like everyone else. Being in elementary school, you don t think that dressing a certain way or
looking a certain way is a big deal. I tried looking like everyone else but my family was struggling so
that was an epic fail. Both my parents we on drugs but I didn t think it would affect me this bad. I was
depressed as a chill but I still got up for school to face those bullies. With drug addicted parents and
having to face bullies on a daily basis on push me hard to keep up good grades. I knew I had someone
that I could trust. By the time I hit middle school, I was still going to through the same situation. I
thought there I had no one to turn to since talking to my parents, my teachers and friends didn t do me
much justice. I finally met two people who helped change things for me. Mrs. V was a school
counselor and Ms. Pam was a lady who worked in the nurse s office. Mrs. V and Ms. Pam was the
light at the end of my dark tunnel.

Painting, Violet Persian Set With Red Lip Wraps By Dale...
The exhibition that focuses on contemporary artworks since 1960 will be small, containing only two
pieces. The pieces are both sculptures, Violet Persian Set with Red Lip Wraps by Dale Chihuly and
Nefertiti by Wendall Castle. The theme of the exhibition will be about the reimagining of the exotic
female form through abstract sculpture specifically, in the round, free standing sculptures. Both
Chihuly s piece as well as Castle s fit this theme as they depict abstract forms that can be interpreted
as feminine. However, the pieces look radically different from one another and are fairly abstract. One
sculpture shows a strong and regal womanly form while the other could be interpreted as the exact
opposite. Both sculpture s in the exhibition can also be seen as being inspired by the exotic and
romanticized past. At a glance, Violet Persian set with red lip wraps is a very abstract form with many
different parts and pieces. There are cone shapes wrapped in thin waved sheets of blown glass. It
appears as though Chihuly uses cane working in his piece as there are stripes of color throughout each
layer. It measures approximately 2.5 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet and is made of twenty different sections of
sculpted glass that must be disassembled and reassembled every time it is moved. The outer wraps,
like shells, gently wrap the glass shapes in their folds. The interior sculptures take on the shapes of
cones, trumpets and petals and are nestled closely together. The sculpture can be

Flowers remain blooming when the sun is out for 1 or 2 days, being replaced by a seed capsule that
grows large, and later splits open to release its seeds. The rhizomes that are found at the roots of these
flowers, and the foliage contain a reddish juice. Over time the plants often form vegetative colonies,
these colonies self pollinate to reproduce.
The reproductive system of the bloodroot is one that contain several strategies. The bloodroot limits
self pollination, hoping that the pollinator landing on it will bring pollen from another to bloodroot to
cross pollinate them. This happens when the stigma which is the middle of the flower and the female
reproductive organs becomes receptive before the anthers which are the male reproductive organs.
This strategy puts a limit on the amount of times the same flower can come in contact with receptive
stigma. The first few days when the flower is opening the antlers bends over towards the outside of the
flower, distancing themselves from the receptive stigma. When its warm pollinators fly around and
deposit pollen from one bloodroot onto the receptive stigma when visiting the flower. This is easily
done by bloodroots because they pollinate when other flowers aren t, which eliminates the chances for
other competition with other flowers. This primary pollinator for the bloodroot are mining bees,
collecting pollen from the underside of their bellies. Sweat bees feed on the

The Enlightenment And The Glorious Revolution
The Enlightenment is said to have begun in the 1680 s, the same decade that the Glorious Revolution
occurred, which crowned daughter of James II Mary and her husband Prince William of Orange
Monarchs of England. This turning point in English history can be considered part of the
Enlightenment due to the switch from an Absolute Monarchy to a Constitutional Monarchy and the
passing of the English Bill of Rights in 1689 after William s ascension to the throne.
The passing of the English Bill of Rights ushered in a new age for England, giving the power of the
Monarchy to the Parliament, and banning the Monarch from adjourning Parliament or going against
the opinion of its majority. The Bill lists that many tyrannical actions that had previously been made
by many kings, such as levying money and suspending/revoking laws were illegal without the consent
of Parliament (Document 3), essentially giving Parliament control of the direction of English law. The
English Bill of Rights was ratified by William in 1689, which directly stated multiple times that the
ruler s power was to be checked by Parliament, thus inhibiting them from exercising full power over
the people, preventing tyranny. He states in Document 2 that he and his wife Mary will concur in
everything that may procure the peace and happiness of [the] nation, which a free and lawful
Parliament shall determine... [and support] the securing of the whole nation the free enjoyment of all
their laws, rights, and liberties,

Significance Of The Outsiders
The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, features a group of friends who lives in a place much known to others
as the hood . Two of the novel s main characters ,Johnny and Dally, are noticeably different from their
friends, because us ,the readers, see a change in their personalities. The change in their personalities
causes them to make a statement that Johnny is the hero and Dally is the hoodlum. Although both
Johnny and Dally have been deemed a hero or a hoodlum in the eyes of the reader, what identifies
Johnny as the true hero is his attempt in redemption. Johnny and Dally have been deemed a hero in all
the ways that they could be as they have been identified as hoodlums. Johnny has done one horrible
act that may not ever be fixed. I killed him he said slowly. I killed that boy. I had to. They were
drowning you Ponyboy. They might have killed you (Page 56, Hinton). Johnny killed a Soc named
Bob, trying to save his fellow Greaser, Ponyboy. Johnny took true courage to show the Socs not to
mess with the greasers, even though Johnny took a hoodlum act. After the killing of Bob, Johnny tries
to escape with Ponyboy to a church, with Dally s help. About a week later Dally finds Johnny and
Ponyboy and says it all good to come back home. During the ride a church full of kids lights on fire. ...

especially Johnny. He cared for Johnny and did everything for him, like keeping him out of trouble
and from getting hurt. The ways that Johnny and Dally could be heroes , in the book, is hard to

Seat Belt Synthesis Essay
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2015, seat belt use in
passenger vehicles saved an estimated 13,941 lives (1). The NHTSA goes on to say that almost 30
million Americans still don t use seat belts on a daily basis. Since vehicle accidents are among the
leading causes of death in the United States and even the world, the argument to improve seat belt
technology has increased dramatically. Researchers are often more concerned with whether or not
people are wearing their seat belts, not the effectiveness of them, until now, although both are
incredibly important. Seat belt safety, which is directly related to seat belt technology, has been shown
to be increasingly ineffective because of the high severity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Fraud of Seat Belt Laws by William J. Holdorf is more focused on seat belt laws than seat belts
themselves. Holdorf discusses that the seat belts laws are more concerned with generating money than
actually protecting citizens (1). Holdorf writes, Once seat
belt laws were passed in any form,
supporters returned each legislative session to lobby for amendments, such as including all occupants,
increasing fines, eliminating exemptions, and changing to primary enforcement, so that the police
could stop a motorist merely under suspicion of not using a seat belt (1). The argument here against
seat belts, specifically the laws pertaining to them, is that police can pull anyone over with the intent
to fine them for not wearing their seatbelt. Horford continues that seat belt laws are a loss of freedom
and that the expenses to implement the law are putting a burden on society and infringe a person s
rights as guaranteed in the Fourth, Fifth, and the Ninth Amendments (2). The debt on society is an
understandable argument but the idea of infringing on someone s rights does not make sense, at least
relating to this context. It does not make sense for someone to prefer a life of chronic pain from severe
injuries or even death of themselves or a family member than simply a few bruises or even get away
from a crash perfectly clean. How can someone not want to protect

  • 2. Shifting Narrative Perspective In Wild Thorns By Sahar... In the novel, Wild Thorns, written by Sahar Khalifeh there are a number of examples of shifting narrative perspective, which helps Sahar Khalifeh give a more balanced description and view of the Occupation for the reader. Sahar Khlaifeh conveys shifting narrative perpective through dialogue and internal monologue. In particular we see different and conflicting views on the Occupation between Usama and Adil, who are both cousins, with a conflicting relationship. The dialogue between the two characters provide the two different perspectives, we are able to see the internal thinking of both characters and see how this influences our view on the Occupation. Also, the use of shifting narrative perspective by the writer helps give the reader a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All culture gone! All integrity gone! Sink, Palestine... (pg 69). In this example Usama expresses his opinion on the Occupation and the lack of effort shown by Adil to do something about the change in the Occupation. There are more examples of exclamatory statements, which helps show the reader the opposing opinions towards the Occupation. All culture gone! All integrity gone! This example really puts emphasis on the fact that there is disagreement and disgust from Usama towards the Occupation. Sahar Khalifeh uses exclamatory statements well in this novel to show characters opinions. Another example of internal thoughts are shown, this time with Adil, adil was looking at him in digust! . In this part of the text it refers to Adil looking at Usama in disgust. This is very useful in showing that both characters have conflict between each other which is based on the Occupation and the contrasting opinions from each other. However, through the use of internal monologue we can see the different views on the same situation. Theres more than one dimension to the picture . This is a qoutation which I used frequently ... • 3. Determining The Chemical Formula For Two Hydrates Through... The goals of the experiment are to determine the chemical formulas for two hydrates through dehydration. Introduction: A chemical equation demonstrates the quantity of atoms of every component that make up the compound. The atomic proportion of components in the compound is the same as the molar proportion of those components. This information can be applied to solve for the mass of one mole of a compound by including the molar masses of the constituent components. Hydrates are combinations that are salts with water particles synthetically clung to them. Really, the holding is intriguing in that the water particles bond specifically to the metal cation. Hydrates fall in an expansive class called coordinated compounds in view of the sort ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We could have possibly achieved our expected results if we had allowed the Zinc Sulfate Hydrate to cool down for those extra four minutes. The experimental error in this lab included the question whether the digital scale was as precise as it could be, how the cooling time affected the water in the hydrates, and any miscalculations that could have occurred. The digital scale could have been more precise since they are more precise scales that could deliver more accurate masses in this lab. The cooling time caused error when calculating the moles of water because the actual result was seven moles instead of five moles which was what was calculated. The calculations could have been potentially miscalculated particularly due to the significant figures used in the data. The method for this experiment can be improved by maybe using another object rather than the crucible to allow a faster cooling time that way the calculations for the analysis have less of a chance of ... It was even catastrophic for a country like Maldives that never experienced disasters of such scale. While some of the islands in Maldives were completely destroyed and a significant number of lives lost; the damages to economy, infrastructure, environment and human psyche was immeasurable (Pardasani, 2006, p. 80). Having only dealt with storm surges and localized flooding, there were no operational plans or capacity to deal with a disaster of this magnitude in Maldives (Government of Maldives, et al., 2005, p. 9). Compare And Contrast Essay On Afterlife And Death Darin Pegram ENGL 2030.24 Dr. Sherman 11/23/15 Death and the Afterlife Opening paragraph{ } Deathly Hallows/Silmarillion { While death is explained in different manners in each story, they share a lot of the same themes and messages. To get a good look at how death is represented in Lord of the Rings, we must take a look at the accompanying book Silmarillion. It describes the creation of Ea and Middle Earth, as well as the forging of the rings***. In the beginning, Eru Iluvitar(God) created 15 beings to help him materialize his vision for the world. From these beings came all of the different races of Middle earth. Iluvatar gave a gift to each of his Children. Each of these races coexist on the same Earth, but all live very different lives***. The certainty of death in Harry Potter is best represented in The Tale of Three Brothers, a fairy tale written by Beetle the Bard. While the story was originally meant for children, it is widely believed to represent the legend of The Deathly Hallows and mastery over Death. The story tells of three wizards who first met Death after using magic to cross a river that would have otherwise killed them. Death feigned congratulated them and offered each of the brothers a prize for outsmarting him. In an attempt to abuse the reward given by Death, the first brother asked for a wand so powerful that it can t be beaten. The old paints manufactured in 1980s will be having more lead in it. If lead mixed paints are used after few years the paint will peels off. It can happen due to some manual activities too like stripping, sand blasting and scrubbing on it. Lead paint had not been used on the outside of the site or the places nearer to the site. However, the content behind the book cover of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone written by J.K. Rowling, seems to have stirred up quite the predicament for the schoolboard. Mrs. Anna Davis the mother of Logan Davis, wants to pull the book and keep it out of the hands of the students. Meanwhile, Mr. Greg Hartmann an English teacher at the school and the one who assigned Logan the book assignment in the first place, as well as some of the parents of the other students want to keep the book accessible to everyone. As a member of the school board, we need to look at both sides of the case in order to come to an appropriate conclusion. We will first review Mrs. Anna Davis s claim and discuss why the book should be pulled from the school s library. Then we will look over to Mr. Greg Hartmann s side of the case and discuss why he should be allowed to keep the book not only for the library but for his class assignment s as well. Finally, we will look at a variety of possible solutions to try and come to an agreement between Mrs. Davis and Mr. Hartmann sides of the book banning case. Mrs. Davis initially complained about the homework assignment that was given to Logan Davis her son. Since we are the expert of our own lives, how we experience and interpret time solely depends on us. That is to say, not everyone on the planet sees the idea of time in the same way. I know that as there are distinctive objective scales of physical time, there are diverse cultural scales of subjective time. However, what is very common in every culture is that we tend to see time in line that is we call things of yesterday or years ago things of the past and things of tomorrow things in the future . This short story talks about a book that is also called The Garden of Forking Paths. Yu Tsun meets a man called Dr, Stephen Albert who showed him a letter written by his grandfather, Tu si pen. Before this encounter, Yu Tsun reflects early in the story, everything happens to a man precisely now. Century follows century, and things happen only in the present (64). With this, Yu Tsun portrays time in a linear manner. That is, people experience time as an issue of present minutes, one after the other. When the minute is experienced, on the other hand, it no longer exists. Because of this, the past is no more genuine than the future. Both exist no place but in the human mind: the past fits in with the domain of memory, while the future has a place with the domain of imagination. Nevertheless, when Yu Tsun arrives at Dr. Stephen Albert s home, the notion of time as linear is challenged. Albert explained to Yu Tsun that Ts ui Pen his ancestor did not believe in a uniform, absolute time. He believed in an infinite series of times, in a growing, dizzying net of divergent, convergent, and parallel times (69) .In this development of time, all presents, pasts, and future exist at the same time. Further, every choice an individual makes prompts diverse future. Tu si Pen made a decision that led to several futures, and here is what he did; In all fiction, when a man is faced with diverse alternatives, he picks one and eliminates the others, but, Ts ui Pen, ... • 10. Refrigerator Mother Theory Refrigerator Mother Theory. Initially, Leo Kanner (1943), a child psychiatrist at the Johns Hopkins University, introduced the term early infantile autism in 1943. He considered that the refrigerator mother triggered early infantile autism. In other words, he believed that the autism was developed after the birth, and lack of parental warmth triggered children to become isolated from the society. Consequently, those children who did not receive enough care exhibited autistic like feature, meaning alone or self in Greek. Furthermore, this idea was strongly supported by Bruno Bettelheim, Austrian born American child psychiatrist, for two decades. He similarly claims that the autism was caused from mother withheld appropriate affection toward their children and failed to make a good connection with them during infancy (Bettelheim, 2010). Moreover, he states that weak or absent father would likely cause autism, since children would not receive enough paternal love. In both cases, psychiatrists in mid twentieth century believed that the autism was developed from children not receiving enough love, warmth and care from their parents. Moreover, they believed that good parenting could alleviate children from becoming ASD. Autism and Vaccination. Another postnatal theory is a vaccination theory. Monica Ferrell s, Of the Irresoubleness of Diamonds, Harmless, As Recalled by a Fairy Tale, Gerburt des Monicakinds, and Beautiful Funeral each employ four different grammatical issues one of them being the known new contract. • 16. Literary Elements In Marigolds By Eugenia Collier Marigolds Essay Do you remember of your childhood and can describe detail by detail everything? The author Eugenia Collier uses flashback, imagery, and diction to help create the voice of Lizbeth. This story was written as a flashback because Lizbeth the main character was remembering all and telling it. She explained some of the things in detail and used a lot of wording too. In all the story Lizbeth used literary elements. In the beginning of the story Lizbeth says, When I think of the home of my youth, all I seem to remember is dust... (Collier 1). This quote is a evidence of how Lizbeth is using flashback to start the story. She is going back to her youth life and starts to remember everything. After that she is having some memories that make her feel something. Whenever the memory of those marigolds flashes across my mind, a strange nostalgia comes with it and remains long after the pictures has fared (Collier 2). • 17. The Exclusivity of the Art Market That which costs little is less valued, said novelist Miguel de Cervantes (Saavedra, 1819). A phenomenon very true to the art markets, one might say. Elitism and exclusivity drive the art world. Value of art works is socially and subjectively constructed, based on one s concocted rationales of what is significant and what is not. Giving art works the title of commodities, hence, is rather trivial, particularly due to the nature and quality of these works. One cannot, however, deny that in the case of contemporary art, capitalism and the art world seem to run hand in hand. (Lewis, 2009) Art markets are notorious for their lack of transparency and information asymmetries provide several opportunities for immoral activities to take place. (Velthuis, 2011) On the day of the declaration of bankruptcy by Lehman Brothers, the worst financial crisis in history, Damien Hirst sold his art at a record price of £70 million, in an auction at Sotheby s. It was apparent, however, that Hirst and his colleagues had manipulated the sale prices by engaging dummy bidders into the auction sales. (Lewis, 2009) Thus, while the rest of the economy was slowly falling apart, the contemporary art bubble kept on inflating, bigger than ever before. It was the peak of the contemporary art bubble, and also the start of its downfall. • 21. Understanding Color Since the age of Aristotle, great minds have questioned the various natures of reality: how a concept works and how humans perceive it. The fundamentals of colour were one such mystery. As an unstable property, the secrets of colour have eluded philosophers, artists, and scientists for centuries, until 1666 when Sir Isaac Newton discovered the properties of light. Thanks to visionaries such as Newton, Hermann von Helmholtz, and Georges Seurat modern understanding of colour can be explained in a variety of manners and can now be categorized according to medium. Though not the socially best example, television is one of the practical applications of pigment primaries in modern society. Colour application in art can best be analyzed in the context of Impressionist Art. Specifically, looking at Neo Impressionist artist Georges Seurat ( 1859 1891)2 shows the practical applications that colour theory has in a purely artistic context. Chromoluminarism, also known as Pointillism, is a form of painting that is completely composed of dots strategically placed in close fashion to create an image. Influenced by Ogden Rood s book titled Modern Chromatics (1879), Seurat created the foremost example of chromoluminarism in current art history: A Sunny Afternoon at the Grande Jatter 1886. Apart from the work s incredible complexity, it demonstrates another concept in the ways humans view colour. Colour is understood as unstable, because of the way it reacts to both quantities of light as well as other colours. Primary and Secondary colours are the foundations of what is known as Complementary colours which, on a colour wheel, are opposite one another. Placing complementaries next to, or on top of one another, will visually alter their properties for the viewer, despite the fact that neither colour has changed at all. However, this is not limited to complementary colours; primary, secondary, and tertiary colours can all change properties when coupled with another colour. For example, the pin corresponding to the letter E might be wired to the contact for letter T on the opposite face. The complexity comes from the use of several rotors in series — usually three or four — and the regular movement of the rotors; this provides a much stronger type of encryption. When placed in the machine, a rotor can be set to one of 26 positions. It can be turned by hand using a grooved finger wheel which protrudes from the internal cover when closed, as shown in Figure 2. So that the operator knows the position, each rotor has an alphabet tyre (or letter ring) attached around the outside of the disk, with 26 letters or numbers; one of these can be seen through a window, indicating the position of the rotor to the operator. In early Enigma models, the alphabet ring is fixed; a complication introduced in later versions is the facility to adjust the alphabet ring relative to the core wiring. The position of the ring is known as the Ringstellung ( ring setting ). The rotors each contain a notch (sometimes multiple notches), used to control the stepping of the rotors. In the military versions, the notches are located on the alphabet ring. The Army and Air Force Enigmas came equipped with several rotors; when first issued there were only three. On 15 December 1938 this changed to five, from which three were chosen for insertion in the machine. Rumen Gases Of all ruminant animal types, (cattle, goats, and sheep), beef and dairy cattle are by far the largest emitters of methane, a potent greenhouse gas. As part of their digestive process, cows produce methane. An average cow in North America, which includes beef cows, bulls, calves, growing steers/heifers, and feedlot cattle, eructs via belching 117 pounds (53 kilograms) of methane (CH4) per head per year, according to 2006 guidelines from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The ruminant animal is unique because of its four stomach compartments: reticulum, rumen, omasum and abomasum. The function of the rumen as a fermentation vat and the presence of certain bacteria promote the development of gases. These gases are found in the upper part of the rumen with CO2 and CH4 making up the largest portion (Table 1). The proportion of these gases is dependent on rumen ecology and fermentation balance. Typically, the proportion of carbon dioxide is two to three times that of CH4, although a large quantity of CO2 is reduced to CH4. The eructation of gases via belching is important in bloat prevention but is also the way CH4 is emitted into the atmosphere. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), methane is more than 20 times as effective as CO2 at trapping heat in the atmosphere/ global warming potential. The U.S. ... • 40. Issues In The Ballet World Jonina Yang Dr. Houser Research Paper Issues in the Ballet World The world of ballet is generally seen as the art of stick thin, white, high class girls dressed in pointe shoes, glamorous tutus, and tiaras, dancing with their prince in the spotlight. Considering the history of ballet, it is not surprising that it has gained this reputation. The term ballet blanc originates from the excessive use of white in many professional ballets. As glamorous as it is, ballet has been considered racist since many non white dancers do not seem to fit the body type standards created by George Balanchine. This ideal body type describes what is perceived to be the perfect ballet body. In recent years, the issues of ballet s lack of diversity and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even now, ballets are considered an art form that only the decently wealthy can ever enjoy. With all the sparkling diamonds and jewels, pointe shoes, glamorous makeup, extravagant theaters, and costumes, it is not surprising that wealth is also commonly associated with ballet. The high ticket prices serve as the main reason why very few people other than the rich are exposed to the art, thus discouraging people of a lower economic status to ever experience it. For instance, to see something as iconic as the Nutcracker, one ticket could start around $100 $150. In order to take classes, get the proper attire, buy costumes, and makeup, it could cost families quite a lot of money, even in a small local company. Bigger companies, such as the New York City Ballet have classes that start at about $100 a class, and since many professional/semi professional dancers are required to take a class every day of the week, it would be roughly $700 for a week, if that dancer only takes one class a day. This high rate for classes limits how many people are able to partake in ballet, but even if someone with a diverse background is able to pay this price, they might still be turned away from companies and productions since some companies do not accept minorities. It is not the fact that there are fewer minorities in the US that could contribute to the lack of color in ballet, in fact, it is the complete opposite. The race demographics of the US from the 1980 s to around 2010 show that there has been a 5.07% increase of people of Spanish descent, a 1.08% increase of African Americans, and a constant increase of people who are of Asian descent. Even with these increases in numbers, most companies have not become more diverse, but while some companies have evolved, not many have changed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Pros And Cons Of Bullying In this world of negativity, I believe that you should stay positive. When I was in elementary school, I used to get bullied for being bigger than all the other kids. I didn t understand why was I getting bullied, but I was still nice. I did what I was supposed to do to maintain good grades and pass all my classes. Staying positive in a world full of mean people can take you as far, as you allow it too. Being bullied made me feel like I wasn t good enough. I was called names for being fat and not dressing like everyone else. Being in elementary school, you don t think that dressing a certain way or looking a certain way is a big deal. I tried looking like everyone else but my family was struggling so that was an epic fail. Both my parents we on drugs but I didn t think it would affect me this bad. I was depressed as a chill but I still got up for school to face those bullies. With drug addicted parents and having to face bullies on a daily basis on push me hard to keep up good grades. I knew I had someone that I could trust. By the time I hit middle school, I was still going to through the same situation. I thought there I had no one to turn to since talking to my parents, my teachers and friends didn t do me much justice. I finally met two people who helped change things for me. • 42. Painting, Violet Persian Set With Red Lip Wraps By Dale... The exhibition that focuses on contemporary artworks since 1960 will be small, containing only two pieces. The pieces are both sculptures, Violet Persian Set with Red Lip Wraps by Dale Chihuly and Nefertiti by Wendall Castle. The theme of the exhibition will be about the reimagining of the exotic female form through abstract sculpture specifically, in the round, free standing sculptures. Both Chihuly s piece as well as Castle s fit this theme as they depict abstract forms that can be interpreted as feminine. However, the pieces look radically different from one another and are fairly abstract. One sculpture shows a strong and regal womanly form while the other could be interpreted as the exact opposite. Both sculpture s in the exhibition can also be seen as being inspired by the exotic and romanticized past. At a glance, Violet Persian set with red lip wraps is a very abstract form with many different parts and pieces. There are cone shapes wrapped in thin waved sheets of blown glass. It appears as though Chihuly uses cane working in his piece as there are stripes of color throughout each layer. It measures approximately 2.5 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet and is made of twenty different sections of sculpted glass that must be disassembled and reassembled every time it is moved. The outer wraps, like shells, gently wrap the glass shapes in their folds. The interior sculptures take on the shapes of cones, trumpets and petals and are nestled closely together. Flowers remain blooming when the sun is out for 1 or 2 days, being replaced by a seed capsule that grows large, and later splits open to release its seeds. The rhizomes that are found at the roots of these flowers, and the foliage contain a reddish juice. Over time the plants often form vegetative colonies, these colonies self pollinate to reproduce. The reproductive system of the bloodroot is one that contain several strategies. The bloodroot limits self pollination, hoping that the pollinator landing on it will bring pollen from another to bloodroot to cross pollinate them. This happens when the stigma which is the middle of the flower and the female reproductive organs becomes receptive before the anthers which are the male reproductive organs. This strategy puts a limit on the amount of times the same flower can come in contact with receptive stigma. The first few days when the flower is opening the antlers bends over towards the outside of the flower, distancing themselves from the receptive stigma. When its warm pollinators fly around and deposit pollen from one bloodroot onto the receptive stigma when visiting the flower. This is easily done by bloodroots because they pollinate when other flowers aren t, which eliminates the chances for other competition with other flowers. This primary pollinator for the bloodroot are mining bees, collecting pollen from the underside of their bellies. Sweat bees feed on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. The Enlightenment And The Glorious Revolution The Enlightenment is said to have begun in the 1680 s, the same decade that the Glorious Revolution occurred, which crowned daughter of James II Mary and her husband Prince William of Orange Monarchs of England. This turning point in English history can be considered part of the Enlightenment due to the switch from an Absolute Monarchy to a Constitutional Monarchy and the passing of the English Bill of Rights in 1689 after William s ascension to the throne. The passing of the English Bill of Rights ushered in a new age for England, giving the power of the Monarchy to the Parliament, and banning the Monarch from adjourning Parliament or going against the opinion of its majority. The Bill lists that many tyrannical actions that had previously been made by many kings, such as levying money and suspending/revoking laws were illegal without the consent of Parliament (Document 3), essentially giving Parliament control of the direction of English law. The English Bill of Rights was ratified by William in 1689, which directly stated multiple times that the ruler s power was to be checked by Parliament, thus inhibiting them from exercising full power over the people, preventing tyranny. Two of the novel s main characters ,Johnny and Dally, are noticeably different from their friends, because us ,the readers, see a change in their personalities. The change in their personalities causes them to make a statement that Johnny is the hero and Dally is the hoodlum. Although both Johnny and Dally have been deemed a hero or a hoodlum in the eyes of the reader, what identifies Johnny as the true hero is his attempt in redemption. Johnny and Dally have been deemed a hero in all the ways that they could be as they have been identified as hoodlums. Johnny has done one horrible act that may not ever be fixed. I killed him he said slowly. I killed that boy. I had to. They were drowning you Ponyboy. They might have killed you (Page 56, Hinton). Johnny killed a Soc named Bob, trying to save his fellow Greaser, Ponyboy. Johnny took true courage to show the Socs not to mess with the greasers, even though Johnny took a hoodlum act. • 51. Seat Belt Synthesis Essay According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2015, seat belt use in passenger vehicles saved an estimated 13,941 lives (1). The NHTSA goes on to say that almost 30 million Americans still don t use seat belts on a daily basis. Since vehicle accidents are among the leading causes of death in the United States and even the world, the argument to improve seat belt technology has increased dramatically. Researchers are often more concerned with whether or not people are wearing their seat belts, not the effectiveness of them, until now, although both are incredibly important. Seat belt safety, which is directly related to seat belt technology, has been shown to be increasingly ineffective because of the high severity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Fraud of Seat Belt Laws by William J. Holdorf is more focused on seat belt laws than seat belts themselves. Holdorf discusses that the seat belts laws are more concerned with generating money than actually protecting citizens (1). Holdorf writes, Once seat belt laws were passed in any form, supporters returned each legislative session to lobby for amendments, such as including all occupants, increasing fines, eliminating exemptions, and changing to primary enforcement, so that the police could stop a motorist merely under suspicion of not using a seat belt (1). The argument here against seat belts, specifically the laws pertaining to them, is that police can pull anyone over with the intent to fine them for not wearing their seatbelt. Horford continues that seat belt laws are a loss of freedom and that the expenses to implement the law are putting a burden on society and infringe a person s rights as guaranteed in the Fourth, Fifth, and the Ninth Amendments (2). The debt on society is an understandable argument but the idea of infringing on someone s rights does not make sense, at least relating to this context. It does not make sense for someone to prefer a life of chronic pain from severe injuries or even death of themselves or a family member than simply a few bruises or even get away from a crash perfectly clean.
