Japan s Change Of Modernity And Democracy
There are many things that contributed to Japan s change to modernity and democracy whether it was
between the political parties or if it was between their cultural system and the people s rights. Before
Japan changed to a more modern and democratic society it was a feudal government structure based
on Confucius views which was during the Tokugawa period. During the Tokugawa period there was a
separation between the social classes which was categorized in four groups the samurai, peasants,
artisans, and merchants. The two classes that had the most power were the samurai and the peasants.
The samurai had the most power because they created a moral example and the peasants came in
second into the social class since they produced food which was essential to survival of the people.
The last two classes the artisans and the merchants. Although the merchants were last in the social
class some were very wealthy and even owned their own monopolies, but since they were in the
bottom of the class the laws prevented them to come higher into power. Although Japan was a feudal
government and was more traditional the Japanese still developed some modernized urban influences
like expanding their trading of commodities, and their advancement in their science studies. Though
the Japanese had some of these modernized views the Tokugawa period soon came to an end due to
the lack of government control by the shogun which created the four classes to fall apart. The

Case 27 Southwest Airlines
1.0 Summary of Southwest Airlines: Does LUV Last?* First time in history, Southwest Airlines had
its LUV for customers questioned. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) levied a record $10.2
million fine on Southwest Airlines. They accuse them after missing mandatory safety checks of flying
117 planes on nearly 60,000 flights between June 18, 2006, and March 14, 2007. Both the FAA and
Southwest testified. FAA officials were blamed for being too close to the airline and being careless in
their regulatory duties. Safety was not compromised by the missed inspections; a tiny section of the
plane s skin had missed being inspected. The cracks in that section would not have led to any terrible
accident. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unions were becoming more aggressive in communicating their frustration, in contrast to earlier days
when differences of opinion were resolved more politely and peacefully. On 2001, ramp workers
picketed near company headquarters with signs that read Record Profits Empty Pickets . They
complained that staff shortages, combined with Southwest s record passenger loads and its drive to
improve on time performance, meant that they had to lift more bags and had to do so more quickly,
which put them at risk of injury. Though on July 2002, first time in the company history, Southwest s
mechanics union asked federal mediators to intervene to break a contract deadlock over pay. While the
company was nowhere near a strike, the incident clearly signaled the strains appearing in employee
relations. The company was also engaged without much success in a contract renegotiation with flight
attendants. July 2003, a group of flight attendants staged a demonstration at the headquarters, carrying
signs stating Spread the LUV and handing out cards to travelers that read Give our flight attendants a
break . The move was an expression of frustration over management s idea of increasing the flight
attendants work hours. Workers who had been working hard to boost the productivity of the company
were not seeing much return from profit sharing and a stock value that was

Through imitation and replication, principal rival Lowe s, Inc. ($30.2B) has grown from a (1946)
small family owned North Carolina hardware store, to an international home improvement giant with
over 1,700 retail outlets. Lowe s Inc. ($30.2B) is now the premier challenger to Home Depot s
competitive advantage as these firms manifest duopoly characteristics in the US home improvement
industry. According to the Data Monitor Group, the maximum capacity of the US home improvement
market is 3,500 stores. With Home Depot Co. ($51.1B) and Lowe s, Inc. ($30.2B) collectively
operating at that level, both companies have begun to focus on international markets for future growth.
Global Operations One prospective opportunity for Home Depot Co. ($51.1B) is expanding its
presence in China. The Asian and Pacific Rim markets have tremendous strategic growth potential for
the home improvement industry. China and India are premier examples of explosive economic
development since opening their doors to international markets several years ago2. With low labor

Marx s Theory Of Socialism
Karl Marx was a philosopher, economist, sociologist, journalist and revolutionary socialist. Marx
defined capital as a social, economic relation between people. In many of his writings, Marx had
implied that revolutions within the proletarian society would be inevitable and the proletariat would
become the ruling class all over the world (Kreis, S 2000) Marx proposed this theory of revolution
based on Hegelian concepts of the dialectic. The philosophical and ideological aims put forward were
to bring about his version of socialism, known as communism. During the winter of 1857 Marx
produced an outline of his critique of the political economy in an unfinished manuscript called The
Grundrisse (Fowkes, B 1997). Marx believed that deficiencies in the economy and social injustices
inherent to capitalism would ultimately lead to the breakdown of capitalist societies. He predicted that
this breakdown of the capitalist societies would ultimately give rise to communism. For Marx,
identifying the fundamental contradictions of the capitalist system of production was the first step in
hastening the downfall of what he saw as an unstable, unfair social system.
Marx referred to the relationship between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat to one of inevitable
conflict, in that the proletariat is systematically exploited under capitalism. Marx believed that labour
is the only real source of wealth. Capital itself; land factories, ports, railroads, etc.; represents simply
stored labour,

The Parable Of The Alert Servant Made Simple Essay
The Parable of the Alert Servant Made Simple (Mark 13:33 37)
By Matthew Payne
Jan 11, 2012
Mark 13:33 37 reads:
Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. It is like a man going out to a far
country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded
the doorkeeper to watch. Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is
coming in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning lest, coming
suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to you all: Watch!
Throughout the New Testament, Jesus shared all about the signs of the time. He had been sharing that
there will be false Christs and there will be tribulation. The stars of Heaven will fall and all sorts of
things will happen before the coming of the end of days.
Jesus is much more than a wonderful person. While reading or listening to these parables, I hope you
will fully understand who He is and what is really going on. Today, Jesus has in fact gone to a far
country. This is no longer a parable. While it is true that when Jesus was on earth, this was a parable
with a funny significance, He had not yet gone to that far country but now Jesus has gone away. It
says just before this, concerning the day of his second coming, of that day no one knows, not even the
angels in Heaven nor the Son, but only the Father.
I have heard many recent accounts of people who have met Jesus in Heaven, and

The Pros And Cons Of Global Inequality
Global inequality is the state that the world s circumstances are unequal. Many people around the
world are facing this global issue happening. Throughout history, it is seen that ,all the provinces in
the world, have varying degrees of poverty. For my report, I will be focusing on Nepal (Asia) . Nepal
is a landlocked country in South Asia. It is home to Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, and
another 7 mountains which are among the ten tallest mountains. Nepal s capital city is Katmandu. I
will be comparing Nepal to Australia. Australia (Commonwealth of Australia) is an island country
(Oceania). Surrounded by the Pacific and Indian oceans, it is the largest country in Oceania and 7th
largest country in the world. Australia s capital is Canberra but its economical capital is Sydney. There
are many essential aspects of life which include; income, education, food and water, health and
shelter. Income is money received, especially on a regular basis, for work or through investments. The
weekly income of a laborer in Australia is $622.20 ($476.11 USD) whereas a Nepalese laborer would
make 2000 NPR ($19.31 USD) . Education is the process of receiving or giving systematic
instruction, especially at a school or university. The expected amount of schooling years in Nepal is
12.2 years. Now, compare that to 20.4 years in Australia. The average cost of living in Australia is
$2835 ($2169.31 USD) while the cost of living in Nepal is 500 1100 NRs ($4.83 $10.62

Adam Fuss Photography
Born in 1961 in rural London and raised in Australia Adam Fuss is a prolific photographer with a keen
eye for nature. His interest first begun through the documentation of the natural environment using
photography as his medium. However, it wasn t long until Fuss began using less contemporary
photographic methods to document his unique view on the world. Leaving the camera behind entirely
he takes a contemporary approach on the earliest techniques known to photography from
daguerreotype to the photogram. The photogram Love is a life sized colour contact print using light
sensitive photographic paper with the contents acting as a barrier between the light source and the
paper. In this image the contents are two slaughtered rabbits which ... Show more content on

Adams s best known for his book Summer Nights, Walking uses the medium of photography in a
much more documentary style capturing what he sees and how he sees it. This traditional approach
could be what triggered the response to Fuss s image. In response to the criticism Adam Fuss
questions the difference between eating animals for nourishment and survival as a necessary part of
our society and art being just as a valuable and fundamental in to our culture. The argument of offence
is one not aimed directly at the use of visceral rabbits but rather the method in which the artist creates
the imagery. Instead of a traditional use of cameras he turns to alternative forms but still considers the
imagery photographs. The images go far beyond those of previous photograms adding texture, colour
and movement to a technique and method which had been almost forgotten. The moral implications
which come as a result of using rabbits as materials shows a slow desensitisation towards death and
decay, this could be what the artist Adams was referring to in his criticism aimed at the

The Pros And Cons Of The Ultrasound
the ultrasound would be a way for her to form a bond with her unborn child by actually seeing it move
and hearing its heart beat. It s lowkey kind of hard to deny something is alive and living when it is
moving and has a heart pumping blood to the rest of its body. The ultrasound would also be the best a
way for the doctor to become well informed concerning exactly how far along the pregnancy is to see
what type of abortion procedure would be the safest and most necessary for the pregnant woman. It is
a crime to injure or kill a fetus during the act of a violent federal crime against a pregnant woman. I do
not understand how the murder of a woman that is pregnant actually counts as the manslaughter of
two people, instead of just one, when aborting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, pro life supporters claim that abortions cause regret, depression, are dangerous, and
cause complications in later pregnancies. So pregnancies after that might suffer due to the abortion
that happened years ago. The obstetrician, Roger Harms, M.D., states that surgical abortions can cause
the cervix to become weak as well as leave a lot of scar tissue in the uterus. Both of these factors
would really cause it to be very difficult for a woman to conceive again as well as be able to carry the
baby to full term. Religion also plays a extremely big role in abortions. Pro choice advocates tend to
contradict pro life Christian beliefs, based on Abortion: When Does Human Life Begin?, by stating
when Genesis chapter one verse twenty seven (1:27) talks about humans being created in the image of
God, it isn t referring to the physical characteristics such as our appearance or biological make up

Comparing Brahms And Pachelbel s Poem Time Line
Time Line
I detect the scent of round two blowing on the wind that gently courses its way over the hilly horizon
as the sun sets on the final page of a new chapter ... can you see it? Can you feel it? It s warm and
moist and is the color of old, stained and tattered sepia photographs of another time a time lost and
forgotten somewhere in between addiction and sobriety; a time after the birth of our children but
before the death of our parents; a time when love made sense and all the horror in the world couldn t
knock us off the back of the unicorn we once believed into existence with enough conviction to make
it as real as Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, Jesus and peace.
Oh my! Where has the time gone, and who are the keepers of time? Have they absconded with it,
along with our dreams, our realities, our nightmares? Will they return with it, or shall we just sit here
awaiting the end like two fishermen waiting for a nibble in a dried up lake? The question remains
unanswered just like many others, but wait we must, because we are still at the end of a long line and
our number isn t up yet, and this is one line where line jumpers are more than welcome.
Somehow, the piped in music of Brahms and Pachelbel does little to calm the quaking nerves you and

Comparison Of Oedipus The King And Antigone By Sophocles
Many lessons can be learned from Sophocles plays Oedipus the King and Antigone. In Oedipus the
King, Oedipus caused his fate to become real by running from it. He killed his father and made love to
his mother even though he had no idea who they were he was still punished. He passed the
punishment of his sins to the rest of his family when he gouged out his eyeballs and banished himself
from the city. In Antigone Oedipus s sons killed each other in battle over the throne and helped Creon
take over the throne. He made a law that no one could bury Polynices but Antigone, Polynices sister,
tried to bury him anyway. The king sentence her to death when he found out and his son, Antigone s
fiance, killed himself making Creon realize what a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He sent me, not only unsatisfied about my original question, but with another amazing and horrible
curse after curse on my head. He said that one day I would make love to my mother! He said I would
raise a broad that no one would want to see. And he said I would kill my own father. I ran. As far from
Corinth as I could get ( Oedipus the King 54). Oedipus was blind with arrogance and tried to escape
fate which ended up making what he feared the most about his fate come true. Oedipus s tragic flaw of
arrogance lead him into his ultimate downfall. He stabbed out his eyes as his wife hung herself in
unbearable disgust of what she had done when she realized who she had children with and who she
has been married to. Even though Oedipus exiles himself the suffering continues throughout his
family and all of his children. Just like in Oedipus in Oedipus the King Creon has the tragic flaw of
arrogance in Antigone. As people were trying to point out that Creon could be wrong about not
burying Polynices body, he says, Its not the gods my friends: its a human act. There are men in this
city that have hated me from the start; I can see it all clearly: they have gone and hired a burial. I tell
you, nothing on earth is as evil as money (Antigone 113). He believes that he can see everything
clearly yet he doesn t know the truth as to who would bury the traitor and he believes that money is

Rational Emotive Behavior Theory ( Psychoanalytic Therapy )
Rational Emotive Behavior Theory
Briefly describe the article you read by Albert Ellis:
How is REBT different from psychoanalytic therapy?
How is REBT different from client centered therapy?
How did you like his writing?
How did the article enhance your understanding of his theory?
This discussion will focus on REBT diverse from psychoanalytic therapy in that REBT utilize rational
rearrangement to alter illogical thoughts that cause psychological problems (Wedding and Corsini,
2008). REBT treatment approach assumes that the person s thought is the primary source of their
situations/life within the here and now. Therapy is brief, intending to help individuals unlearn negative

psychoanalysis emphasizes on guiding the person s unconscious into the conscious realm to gain
greater self knowledge. REBT differentiates itself as a calming approach, which comprises a broad
variation of methods that can utilize with children (Frew Spiegler, 2008). Therapy is brief, compared
to psychoanalysis, where therapy is long term, often over some years, with several sessions each

Cousin Lymon
The Ballad of the Sad Café by Carson McCullers is a novella that tells the story of a three strange
characters and their abnormal love triangle. Cousin Lymon is one of these characters, a grotesque and
evil character that illustrates McCullers theory of love through his actions. Miss Amelia and Marvin
Macy s actions towards Lymon and each other also exhibit characteristics of McCullers theory of love.
The townspeople emphasize Lymon s true character and provide another point of view of these
relationships. Therefore, the love triangle present in this novella supports and further explains Carson
McCullers theory of love.
The relationship of Amelia and Lymon in Ballad of the Sad Café is quite peculiar. Lymon, a social

The southern gothic theme of small town life is evident in Ballad of the Sad Café . The town is
stricken by boredom, when your shift is finished there is absolutely nothing to do; you might as well
walk down to the forks falls and listen to the chain gang (McCullers 4). The arrival of Cousin Lymon
is interesting to the townspeople, they gossip about his arrival, saying that Miss Amelia has murdered
Cousin Lymon. The theme of small town life in Ballad of a Sad Café is similar to To Kill a
Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The grotesque characters exhibit physical deformities such as To Kill a
Mockingbird s Tom Robinson, his left arm has seized to grow and lays mangled at his side. Ballad of a
sad café s Lymon is a hunchback. The townspeople in both of these stories influence the characters.
Tom Robinson is ridiculed and everyone who stands by him. The town also creates rumours pertaining
to Arthur Radley and the Radley family. Cousin Lymon and Miss Amelia are also ridiculed but far
less, the town creates rumours about them and their relationship. Amelia possess a lot of power in her
small town, the people do not dare cross her however they do create rumours such as her murdering
Lymon, they gossip about her former marriage and love for her cousin. Lymon interests the
townspeople by knowing everyone s business, causing fights and stirring up trouble he gives the town
more entertainment and gossip. Lymon s presence gives the townspeople things to discuss, not only
causes more drama but brings back the gossip of Marvin

Furthermore, the functions and operations of Bank of England and high street banks are different. By
implementing the Sterling Monetary Framework, the system contributes to smoothing market rate and
manages to meet the inflation target given by the Government (Bank of England, 2015). As the
monopoly note issuer, the Bank provides Sterling of which the public believes its value and
consequently it alleviates both shortage and fear of shortage in the market (Siklos et al, 2010). Another
function regards to monetary stability is the role of lender of last resort , which means it can provide
Emergency Liquidity Assistance to the financial institutions at stake. In addition, the Bank operates
the nation s Real Time Gross Settlement system to provide ultimate settlements for commercial banks
who holds reserve accounts in the Bank of England (Manning, 2014). As to the functions of retail
banks, they provide intermediation and transaction services to both individuals and companies
(Greenspan, 1989). The most common ones are receiving deposit and providing loans and advances in
different forms, which leads to its key function in the financial market, providing liquidity through
creation of credits (Krohn, 2015). There are other derivative functions including collecting and
clearing cheques, providing cash management, foreign currency risk solutions, acting as trustee or

College Education Worth The Cost
College Education Worth the Cost
What you guys think does College Education Worth the Cost? In the article The Wall Street Journal
edited by Riley, she said that a college education does not worth the cost. Again, she claims that most
of the colleges are doing their business, they did not care about the student (Riley). Those types of
colleges have lack serious core curriculum, they did not know their responsibility towards the student.
Moreover, I will not support the Riley argument because I am going to support the article college is
still worth the expenses, written by Justin Draeger. College education worth the cost from different
ways. All college student does not have same aims to attain college. After high school some students
have no any ideas what to do next. Those students just attain college, make friends and get some idea
from them than only they decided what to do in life. Some of them continue college education and
some of them find another field in which they are interested than only they start their journey. In this
research essay I am going to argue college education worth the cost in several ways such as: Earning a
college degree is all about opening up opportunities in life, being educated person, and getting better
career opportunities. College worth the cost because earning a college degree open up opportunities in
everyone s life. In this world, education becomes necessary not only important.

Themes Of Fiddler On The Roof
The classic tale of a Jewish family s struggle in a Russian society that is growing more and more
hostile, Fiddler on the Roof is rich in historical and ethnic detail, with a central theme that crosses the
barriers of race and class to become a classic musical that draws in audiences worldwide. Fiddler on
the Roof is a favorite among many musical theatre lovers because of its humor, inspiring plot, and
underlying theme of faith and tradition.
Fiddler on the Roof is set in a Jewish community in pre revolutionary Russia, where every decision
made by the residents of Anatevka, Ukraine, is centered in community and religious tradition. For
poor dairy farmer Tevye and his wife Golde, these traditions include getting the town matchmaker,
Yente, to find their five daughters suitable and wealthy husbands. Tzeitel, who is not yet twenty, doesn
t like that Yente only sets her up with old men, and is secretly in love with a poor tailor named Motel.
Motel doesn t believe Tevye would approve of a union between him and Tzeitel due to the economic
status of both families, and because their union had not been arranged by the matchmaker. Another
daughter, Hodel, understands the importance of these traditions better than her older sister Tzeitel.
Hodel has grown attached to the idea of marrying the rabbi s son, because of what he is, rather than
who he is. Younger sister Chava hopes for someone to love in the future, but for now is content to
focus on her love of reading. The approach of

were the war in Vietnam and civil rights. This era changed the way the public was able view the

war was about and journalism was not always unbiased. This era was an era of advancement, where
many protested the war, there were the civil rights movement activists striving to gain equality for all

as equals in the labor force, education, and in the military. One of the famous leaders of the civil rights
movement was Martin Luther King Jr. who was backed by President Lyndon B, Johnson. President
LBJ was interested in creating welfare programs that would benefit those in poverty and give them
hope, he was all about creating a level playing field to create opportunities that would benefit society
as a whole. According to the Virginia Historical Society there was a piece written by P. B. Young,
editor of the Norfolk Journal and Guide, a newspaper at the time, wrote a few touching words to
Liberals, Help us get some of the blessings of democracy here at home before you jump on the free

Roosevelt s wife, Eleanor, said The nation cannot expect the colored people to feel that the U.S. is

that young black men faced in the military it was still a better option than being unemployed and

assassination attempt plotted against him, is viewed as one of the most controversial figures in
American History. Scenarios that prove of Jackson being a controversial figure during his presidency,
include the Nullification Crisis, Bank War, and the Trail of Tears. These three scenarios dictate
whether the content of Andrew Jackson s character and whether he had a successful presidency or not.
It is important that people should consider Jackson s early life to get more of an understanding to why
he might have made the presidential choices that were deemed controversial by many historians and
people alike. Andrew Jackson was conceived on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Donelsons were an outstanding Nashville family. Rachel was wedded but detached from her

conditions created issues down the road for Jackson in his presidential endeavors, when his rivals

The Factors Of The Great Fog Of 1952
THE GREAT SMOG OF 1952
I. FACTS OF THE GREAT SMOG OF 1952
A thick fog engulfed London from December 5 to December 9, 1952. It mixed with black smoke
emitted from homes and factories to create a deadly smog. This smog killed approximately 12,000
people and was the catalyst for the introduction of environmental laws.
Smog was a regular occurrence in London, but the smog that formed from Friday 5 December to
Tuesday 9 December 1952 was different. On 5 December during the day, the fog was not particularly
dense. However, during the night it thickened greatly resulting in very low visibility. On the 6th
December, there was not sufficient sunlight to clear the fog. The fog proceeded to intensify its
thickness over the next few days. The fog became ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem comes about because both the polluter and the victim think they are justified in their
opinions and actions. As a result of this impasse, the market doesn t find a solution because no one has
the property rights to something like air or noise pollution. The role of the legal system in the Coase
Theorem is to simply decide who gets the property rights. Because bargaining is assumed to be free, it
doesn t matter who gets the property rights. If they are assigned to either the polluter or the victim, the
market will always find an efficient outcome.
IV. APPLYING COASE THEOREM TO THE GREAT SMOG OF 1952
There is a negative externality because the smog clearly causes external damage that is inflicted upon
the general public of London. The factories are not bearing the entire cost of producing their goods
because they are not paying for proper waste disposal. Factories were emitting harmful pollutants into
the atmosphere which has a negative social cost because it was making people ill and causing deaths.
The pollution (smog) is an externality, as the pollution from the factories imposed a cost on people
who may have been neither consumers nor producers of these items. This is a legitimate externality
because the property rights of air are not assigned to anyone. It would be efficient to allow the
factories to pollute if the value of operating the factory was greater than the pollution cost imposed on
the general public in

Automobile In The Great Gatsby
If you were to have to choose one invention that had the largest impact on everyday life during the
20th century, the invention of the automobile may just have been the most important and impactful.
Although the technology existed during the late 19th century to produce an automobile, had it not
been for Henry Ford and his assembly lines, the automobile may have never been brought into the
hands of the general population. With the expansion of the automobile industry came an economic
revolution during the 1920s across the continental United States as thousands of jobs were created
with the introduction of highway systems in 1921 with the Federal Aid Highway Act. The intent of the
act was to create coherent highway networks using Federal funds ... Show more content on

Scott Fitzgerald published a series of three essays in one of which he wrote: I dreamed that I saw
always at the wheel of a magnificent Stutz, a Stutz as low as a snake and as red an Indiana Barn. (The
Crack Up, Fitzgerald, 226) The cars that Fitzgerald owned in his life, from a Rolls Royce, to a Buick,
a Stutz, a Packard, a Ford Coupe and finally a Ford convertible would be a comparison between the
dreams and realities he had in his life in his journey from careless youth to a cautious, middle aged
man which was greatly representative of the characters in his novels as well. Fitzgerald s descriptions
of Jay Gatsby s Rolls Royce in his 1925 novel The Great Gatsby are very similar to that of Morrison s
as it is described as being a rich cream color, bright with nickel, swollen here and there in its
monstrous length with triumphant hat boxes and upper boxes and tool boxes, and terraced with a
labyrinth of wind shields that mirrored a dozen suns. Sitting down behind many layers of glass in a
sort of green leather conservatory, we started to town. (Fitzgerald, 68) We later get mention of our
narrator Nick Carraway s car, which was an old Dodge . A Dodge during the 1920s was considered to
have been one step above Henry Ford s Model T with its 35 horsepower 4 cylinder L head engine, 12
volt electrical system, electric starter rather than a manual crank (which would prove to be the cause
of many broken wrists for Model T owners), and an all steel body, making it about double the price of

The American Influence On Canada
For many decades, writers and authors have accused the American influence on Canada as one of the
reasons why Canada is losing its heritage, with one major aspect being the game of hockey. The
institutionalization of American Culture began to take root in Canada during the late 1920 s and 1930s
as technological advances, specifically the invention of the radio, allowed Canadians to enjoy
American entertainment. American stations were much more reliable than Canadian ones, causing
American sporting stations such as NBC and CBS to become extremely popular in Canada (Gruneau
et al, 1993). As Canada was becoming intertwined with the United States (U.S.), it was becoming less
of a satellite of Britain, which made it tremendously difficult for Canada s elite to protect British
ideals such as self improvement and participating in sport for the game s sake. (Gruneau et al, 1993).
In the early 1940 s, after the great depression forced many franchises to dismantle, the National
Hockey League (NHL) was left with six teams, which made up the famous original six. At this time,
America had a strong influence on the game, as four of the original six teams were based in the United
States, and all of the players in league were paid in American dollars (Gruneau et al, 1993). By the
early 1960 s, televised sports were emerging in North America, and NHL players were becoming
mainstream stars. Inspired by this, along with the threat of the NHL losing its television contract to the

The Great Purge Of The Cold War
Joseph Stalin s determination greatly affected his leadership and led to the beginnings of the Cold War.
His determination allowed him to rise to power and destroy all opposition against his reign. The Great
Purge, one of the greatest terrors in history, was also done due to his determination to stay in power.
This same determination led to, as well as shaped, a large quantity of the events of World War 2. His
leadership was similar to the leadership of Adolf Hitler, yet because of his determination, was quite
different, and quite possibly more effective. In the end his determination for power led to the events of
the Cold War.
This determination greatly affected Stalin s rise to power, and allowed him to completely decimate all
opposition to his leadership. Originally, Stalin was a powerless citizen of the USSR, yet he managed
to quickly rise to the top of the political field. He began his role in politics by joining the Bolsheviks
in 1903. Due to his thirst for power he steadily rose through the ranks of the party and was soon the
General Secretary. The Bolshevik insurrection to Russian leadership was successful and placed Stalin
in a position of great power. He then used his power to isolate members of the party in an attempt to
take away their power and popularity. Determined to gain absolute dominance over the other
members, he caused the dismissal, and possibly the deaths, of several of his political opponents. This
left him in total rule over the Communist party,

Bad Girls Don T Die Essay
Ghosts or spirits are scary in movies. They make someone jump but, imagine being possessed by an
evil one. That is what my book Bad Girls Don t Die By: Katie Alender was about. Just to give a small
idea about the book, a high school girl is living the normal life when her little sister, Kasey, gets
possessed by a spirit in her home. The spirit tries to kill a cheerleader going to Alexis s high school.
They decided to go after the spirit and try to kill it. Throughout the entire book, they find different
evidence of who the spirit is and what happened. The author wrote the book giving emotions of scare
or terror, frightened or startled, and disgust. To do so she used lots of words and examples that you
would see in horror movies. But instead of a horror movie, it was a horror novel. Has anyone ever
changed their attitude or the way they acted? Did it scare you? One way that the author showed this to
be in the horror genre is throughout the book there was many parts that gave someone terror or made
someone scared. One way she did this was having Kasey be possessed. In ... Show more content on

Myers Briggs convincingly presents that their results are specific to a degree which sounds credible to
the individual, but however is vague enough to be applicable to a wide range of people.  Like all
other self tests, the answers which are given depends on the mood and perceptions of the individual at

focusing on previous actions of the individual rather than their current feeling which is known to

The Importance Of Physical Evidence
Physical Evidence
Physical Evidence has always been a key factor in solving any crime scene. It is any evidence that
could tell the investigators about the crime being investigated. Physical evidence which is found at the
crime scene is good evidence to link the details on what occurred. It is also good evidence to find the
suspect and also the victim in some cases. This paper will discuss a variety of physical evidence like
DNA, firearms and ballistics, and also drug evidence. It will also discuss how they are collected,
documented and preserved.
DNA Evidence
DNA is one of the main and important evidence to find in a crime scene. DNA evidence can be
anything like blood, bone, hair and body fluids. Crime scenes that contain this type of evidence comes
with an advantage that, no two people have the same DNA (Dutelle, 2017). Therefore, it can be
matched to a specific suspect or can also eliminate someone from being involved in a crime.
Documenting DNA has a slight difference on how it is collected, documented and preserved. For
example, blood has to be recorded by its physical state and if it is moist or dried. The amount present
has to be recorded, for example, if there is a few drops or a small pool of blood. The shape of the
blood has to be recorded if it is smeared or round drops, the location also needs to be recorded. The
pattern of the stains, atmosphere conditions, date and time observed. Lastly, scaled and unscaled
photographs of stains need to be recorded.

Hamlet Soliloquy Analysis
In Act III, Scene I of Hamlet, the titular character begins his soliloquy with the line To be, or not to be,
that is the question (III.i.63). Here, he clearly states the dilemma that he will debate for the remainder
of the passage: Is it better for Hamlet to continue living, or should he commit suicide to end his
suffering? Hamlet continues his indecision between his two choices through the inclusion of
metaphor, through which he describes the act of living as suffering The slings of arrows of outrageous
fortune (III.i.65) and the act of committing suicide as to take arms against a sea of troubles (III.i.66).
These metaphors are extremely significant, as they establish both the use of poetic language and the
tone for the remainder of the passage. Shakespeare s uses metaphor here to compare Hamlet s
indecision to a battle, with imagery used of weapons and fighting. This is done in order to reflect the
battle that Hamlet is experiencing internally; the use of metaphor in this instance shows the reader
how Hamlet is feeling about his indecision. Despite this indecision, Hamlet quickly begins
contemplating the choice of suicide, saying To die, to sleep / No more (III.i.67 68). Here, Shakespeare
introduces one of two significant extended metaphors that appear in the passage the comparison of
death to sleep. This theme resonates throughout the passage, with Hamlet again and again referring to
the act of dying as sleeping. He goes on to describe death as the end to the thousand natural shocks /
That flesh is heir to (III.i.69 70), using hyperbole to heighten the emotion he is experiencing. Despite
this heightened emotion and wishful thinking concerning suicide, a shift occurs within Hamlet when
he begins to see the problems with suicide. Though this brief section introduces a key metaphor to the
passage, Hamlet quickly shifts his point of view, something that will continually happen for the
remainder for the passage. With this shift, Hamlet introduces the second extended metaphor of the
passage when he says For in that sleep of death what dreams may come (III.i.73). Here, Shakespeare
likens dreams, which come after sleep, with the afterlife, which comes after death. This metaphor is
both indicative

How To Evaluate New Orleans And Hurricane Katrina
Evaluating New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina
I. Introduction Of the several natural disasters that humanity has faced, Hurricane Katrina was one of
the deadliest; it caused a depressingly high death toll of 1,833. In addition to taking human lives,
Katrina caused massive economic destruction. In fact, it s the costliest natural disaster in US history
with damage worth $108 billion. In order to impart destruction of such magnitude, Katrina had to be
fearfully strong. The intensity of a hurricane is usually based on classification according to the Saffir
Simpson hurricane wind scale. This scale categorizes hurricanes by their maximum sustained winds
ranging from Category 1 to Category 5. When it comes to Hurricane Katrina, it s no surprise that it
was rated as a Category 5 hurricane. To get a feel for how strong such a hurricane might be, it s
important to know that Category 5 hurricanes have sustained winds greater than 157 mph. In
comparison, Katrina s highest sustained winds were calculated to be 175 mph. ... Show more content

Unfortunately, the challenges that result from hurricanes are multifaceted. When large bodies of water
surround the area of impact, flooding becomes an additional cause for concern. For the city of New
Orleans, the primary goal was to prevent these floodwaters from breaching people s homes. Such a
task was, by no means, easy. The storm surge that resulted from Katrina s wrath was 20 ft high.
Instead of the expected outcome of holding back floodwaters, many of the levees failed miserably.

A Research On European Banking Regulations And Their...
The following paper attempts to address the need for future research as mentioned in part A. European
Banks are not required to hold a capital buffer against the sovereign debt holding of any European
state, regardless of the risk involved. As a result European governments had issued excessive debt,
taking advantage of a sovereign subsidy of other EU member states in the form of the 0 risk weight for
their MFI. If such a risk finally materialises, MFI will be left undercapitalised because they do not
hold a capital buffer for their sovereign exposure. Therefore 0 risk represents a channel, through
which sovereign risk can extend to any EU member state. Thus, the focus of the paper is to develop a
new measure that quantifies the banks risk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To support Korte and Steffen s empirical analysis there are Bolton and Jeanne (2011), who argue how
financial integration may lead to ex post contagion and oversupply of risky sovereign debt. Further,
Acharya et al. (2014) develop a model, which sees banks overleveraged because they invest too much
in low risk weighted instead of diversifying the risk. Korte and Steffen build on this model to develop
their hypothesis for the research paper. Korte and Steffen incorporate two streams of literature, which
are important to give evidence on how risk weight regulation impairs financial stability in the
Eurozone. The first stream focuses on both determinants and interdependence of sovereign risk. These
are Duffie et al. (2003); Bolton and Jeanne (2011); Barth et al. (2012); Acharya, Drechsler, and
Schnabl (2014). Examples are: Ang and Longstaff (2013), evaluates the co movement of sovereign
default risk. Chen (2013), finds that financial linkages likely provide a channel for sovereign risk
spillovers. Kallestrup et al (2013), evaluates how banking sector variables, such as cross border
exposure amplify the effect, that non domestic sovereign has on domestic sovereign risk. The second

The two different opinions change the way that the readers understand the story. This means that if an

Orden stuck to his point. But there was resistance? Yes but it was foolish to resist. He then goes on to
say, but they resisted. This comes from a conversation between the Mayor of the town and the Colonel
Lanser shortly after the German army had occupied the town. The two go on to have a conversation
about what is going to happen to the people of the town and why the Germans have taken this
particular town. This starts the main problem of the story and is the first adversity that the town must

Later on in the story, the German army has began to ration the town s food so the people work. This is
a major problem because this gives the army complete control over the town and if the town does not
comply with the wishes of Colonel Lanser then they can simply take the food away. On page 78,

Nazi Propaganda Was A Well Know Thing During The Holocaust
Nazi Propaganda was a well know thing during the holocaust. Hitler and Joseph Goebbels were the

the country s minister for public enlightenment and propaganda. Goebbels had complete jurisdiction
over the content of German newspapers, magazines, books, music, films, stage plays, radio programs
and fine arts. His mission was to censor all opposition to Hitler and present the chancellor and the
Nazi Party in the most positive light while stirring up hatred for Jewish people. Hitler was a well

In the poem Icarus , Christine suggests that disaffection even affects those that are close to one

Daedalus schemes to escape the labyrinth, but rather than being happy and proud, Icarus feels as if he
was dead weight, and urges to be something that would be of help of others with the attitude of bound
by the string connecting father and son, invisible thread I tried years to untie. I ached to be a good for
something on my own. (Lines 13 15) This metaphor conveys that Icarus even as a son, wants to stop
being connected with his dad and tries to untie their father and son bond. But as trying to untie and

The Positive Effects Of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) become more popular every day. No one doubts that their usage can
bring a lot of benefits in various spheres. The focus of the article would be on positive effects of
drones acceptance in business. Adoption of this technology leads industries to an entirely new level of
production. It is crucial for entities to realize the potential and advantages of usage of UAVs ASAP.
The historical context can explain the mega trends in the issue of UAVs. First drones were designed
and used primarily for military purposes since 1950 s and even earlier. For instance, the U.S. and
France worked on the development of unmanned airplanes during the World War I. Then army started
to use drones for delivering messages, intelligence and bombing attacks (Calder). Such vehicles can
perform dozens of missions without risking a life of pilots. Moreover, drones became smaller and
more maneuver. They complete actions that were impossible before. Besides the army, UAVs become
more commonly used for civilian purposes. Drones with artificial intelligence can provide surveillance
videos and aerial data from different places and heights. Furthermore, they can make a report on any
activity from the air. It opens new horizons in building industry. Companies can use drones for making
aerial pictures and analyzing data about the constructing process. The start up Kespry already uses
UAVs for earthworks projects, mine planning. It also assists insurance firms. The drones

A Great Children s Book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland...
In the 1800s a great author created a great book and inspired a different way of writing. Alice s
Adventures in Wonderland is known as one of best children s story book. Alice s Adventures in
Wonderland is one of the most famous and enduring children s classics. The novel is full of whimsical
charm, and a feeling for the absurd that is unsurpassed. The book begins with a young girl Alice,
bored under a tree in the meadow by a river, reading a book with her sister. Everything seems
perfectly normal and peaceful; there could be nothing more in keeping with the middle class Victorian
world in which Carroll lived. The tale plays with logic giving the story lasting image with adults as

Theme Of The Penelopiad
Margaret Atwood s The Penelopiad has many motifs, although the most significant motif is suffering,
which is present throughout The Penelopiad through uninformed families, terrified suitors, and the
agony of young girls. Even the narrator of the story, Penelope, has suffered ever since her childhood
when she was thrown off a cliff. Since the beginning of The Penelopiad, each individual from Ithaca
has ended up in pain. Penelope and Telemachus pain of not knowing the fate of Odysseus, a father,
and a husband, the frightening death of the overstayed suitors, and the agony put on the maids, who
are raped and hurt repeatedly by the awful suitors. All together, Margaret Atwood uses the motif of
suffering to describe the unavoidable pain that the characters face throughout The Penelopiad, and
how suffering correlates to the departure and return of Odysseus.
Atwood uses suffering to describe Penelope and Telemachus unknowing of the fate of Odysseus.
Since the start of The Penelopiad, Atwood describes the suffering of Penelope, and the suffering of
Telemachus through the absence of Odysseus. The grief began when Odysseus was sent to Troy, and
after 20 years, still hasn t returned. Additional suffering is added to this pair, when Telemachus comes
of age and starts looking for answers. He d gone in search of his father, since nobody else was
prepared to lift a finger in that direction. He claimed his father would ve been proud of him for

The Death Of A Patient Die
Whenever a situation poses the threat of a patient dying, there seems to be a sense of obligation at
times that may drive physicians to do whatever it takes to try and save the patient. In some cases that
could be the deciding factor in whether a person can get better or will die in the process. However,
there are always situations that no one really wants to face that involve the terminally ill who have
extremely low to no chance of recovery. Though a certain treatment will keep the patient alive, it can
be seen as only prolonging the inevitable. Between the possible legality and stigma of having a patient
die, be it any reason, the thought of just letting someone die or participating in a process that will
hasten their death frightens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people fear death while others only fear the uncertainty that leads up to it. To some, the process
of prolonging the inevitable with an increasingly painful process can seem much more cruel and
immoral that just allowing them to die on their own terms. Another prominent reason for the
implication of a social policy for physician assistance in dying is to help to create a little less
uncertainty when it comes to which situations, where death is involved, are okay. If no states had any
policy on physician assistance in dying there would still be cases where the only thing left that can be
done is to let the patient move on and die. Cases like these could be a withdrawing of treatment,
abstaining from a treatment, or perhaps even a more direct method (within legal means). Situations
like these could allow for a slippery slope argument on what can and will be accepted in end of life
cases. If a social policy were to be put into place, it might help to define what type of instances it is
relatively okay to allow death. However, there will always be a slippery slope argument of how if one
example is allowed than why not another. A policy would hopefully lessen the slope, but would in no
means make it completely disappear. One the other hand, one of the most prominent reasons for not
adopting a

Psych Parenting Assessment
I completed seven assessment tests from PsychCentral.com. The tests were based on parenting,
relationships, and personality. The Parenting quiz results were definitely compatible. I scored a 19 in
authoritarianism, which is closer to being authoritative than democratic. My children have a habit of
asking me why, and my response the majority of the time is because I said so. On the other hand,
sometimes I do explain to them the reason behind my demands. In flexibility, I scored a 23 on the
specific end. Having 4 kids aging from 16 to 1, I feel I must run a tight shift. When I set house rules I
expect for them to be followed. I might let them deviate a tad on occasions, but for the most part I like
to have an orderly house. I scored a 9 in permissive, which means I am stricter. This is true. I m a no
nonsense type of person. I was raised with responsibility and order, so it s likely for me to raise my
children the same. I do give my children enough ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Do I have a love, lust, or loser relationship? I have a love relationship, which is what I need. I feel I
have a great relationship, but there is always room to improve and learn from each other. Scoring a 46,
the How strong is your love quiz proved my thoughts correct. The How deep is your love quiz results
came back exactly how I expected. I am a very passionate person, especially with my fiancé. The next
two tests were interesting. The Sustainable marriage quiz and the Feeling connected quiz showed
some adverse results. My fiancé and I have hit a little rough patch over the last week, so I understand
why I scored low in being connected. I believe it is a normal part of being in a relationship, not
everything is going to be smooth sailing. However, if we weren t in a quarrel, I believe we would be
extremely connected. Our relationship is moderately exciting. We have a solid relationship, but like
every relationship we have room to

The Importance Of Web Based Communication
The most fundamental method of human expression is communication through both verbal and non
verbal means. As technology, has rapidly developed over the past two decades, and continues to
evolve at a staggering pace leading into the future, people have taken to the World Wide Web (WWW)
as an extension of basic communication capability. WWW communication allows people to quickly
reach out to one another throughout the course of a busy day. As a result of enhanced communication
capability, and a surge in use of communication over the WWW, areas of private professional and
public political life have seen substantial change in recent years. Positive Public Attitude The daily
routines of many individuals have only gotten more hectic in recent years, despite the advantages of
having increased technology. As such, it has become much more difficult for the average worker to
simply reach out with a phone call, or stop in for a face to face conversation with other professionals.
To assist the busy lives of individuals, web based communication, through secure means, has become
more prevalent. From communicating with a utility company about an electric, water, or gas account,
to seeking medical advice from a family doctor, secure messaging systems are making their mark. A
study of forty three physicians was conducted six months following the implementation of a secure
messaging system called Patient Gateway (PG) to quantify if using secure messaging produced
positive results

Japan s Change Of Modernity And Democracy There are many things that contributed to Japan s change to modernity and democracy whether it was between the political parties or if it was between their cultural system and the people s rights. Before Japan changed to a more modern and democratic society it was a feudal government structure based on Confucius views which was during the Tokugawa period. During the Tokugawa period there was a separation between the social classes which was categorized in four groups the samurai, peasants, artisans, and merchants. The two classes that had the most power were the samurai and the peasants. The samurai had the most power because they created a moral example and the peasants came in second into the social class since they produced food which was essential to survival of the people. The last two classes the artisans and the merchants. Although the merchants were last in the social class some were very wealthy and even owned their own monopolies, but since they were in the bottom of the class the laws prevented them to come higher into power. Although Japan was a feudal government and was more traditional the Japanese still developed some modernized urban influences like expanding their trading of commodities, and their advancement in their science studies. Though the Japanese had some of these modernized views the Tokugawa period soon came to an end due to the lack of government control by the shogun which created the four classes to fall apart. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) levied a record $10.2 million fine on Southwest Airlines. They accuse them after missing mandatory safety checks of flying 117 planes on nearly 60,000 flights between June 18, 2006, and March 14, 2007. Both the FAA and Southwest testified. FAA officials were blamed for being too close to the airline and being careless in their regulatory duties. Safety was not compromised by the missed inspections; a tiny section of the plane s skin had missed being inspected. The cracks in that section would not have led to any terrible accident. The ... Unions were becoming more aggressive in communicating their frustration, in contrast to earlier days when differences of opinion were resolved more politely and peacefully. On 2001, ramp workers picketed near company headquarters with signs that read Record Profits Empty Pickets . Though on July 2002, first time in the company history, Southwest s mechanics union asked federal mediators to intervene to break a contract deadlock over pay. While the company was nowhere near a strike, the incident clearly signaled the strains appearing in employee relations. The company was also engaged without much success in a contract renegotiation with flight attendants. July 2003, a group of flight attendants staged a demonstration at the headquarters, carrying signs stating Spread the LUV and handing out cards to travelers that read Give our flight attendants a break . • 5. Marx s Theory Of Socialism Karl Marx was a philosopher, economist, sociologist, journalist and revolutionary socialist. Marx defined capital as a social, economic relation between people. In many of his writings, Marx had implied that revolutions within the proletarian society would be inevitable and the proletariat would become the ruling class all over the world (Kreis, S 2000) Marx proposed this theory of revolution based on Hegelian concepts of the dialectic. The philosophical and ideological aims put forward were to bring about his version of socialism, known as communism. During the winter of 1857 Marx produced an outline of his critique of the political economy in an unfinished manuscript called The Grundrisse (Fowkes, B 1997). Marx believed that deficiencies in the economy and social injustices inherent to capitalism would ultimately lead to the breakdown of capitalist societies. He predicted that this breakdown of the capitalist societies would ultimately give rise to communism. For Marx, identifying the fundamental contradictions of the capitalist system of production was the first step in hastening the downfall of what he saw as an unstable, unfair social system. Marx referred to the relationship between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat to one of inevitable conflict, in that the proletariat is systematically exploited under capitalism. Marx believed that labour is the only real source of wealth. Capital itself; land factories, ports, railroads, etc.; represents simply stored labour, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Parable Of The Alert Servant Made Simple Essay The Parable of the Alert Servant Made Simple (Mark 13:33 37) By Matthew Payne Jan 11, 2012 Mark 13:33 37 reads: Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. It is like a man going out to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to you all: Watch! Throughout the New Testament, Jesus shared all about the signs of the time. He had been sharing that there will be false Christs and there will be tribulation. The stars of Heaven will fall and all sorts of things will happen before the coming of the end of days. Jesus is much more than a wonderful person. While reading or listening to these parables, I hope you will fully understand who He is and what is really going on. Today, Jesus has in fact gone to a far country. This is no longer a parable. While it is true that when Jesus was on earth, this was a parable with a funny significance, He had not yet gone to that far country but now Jesus has gone away. It says just before this, concerning the day of his second coming, of that day no one knows, not even the angels in Heaven nor the Son, but only the Father. Comparing Brahms And Pachelbel s Poem Time Line Time Line I detect the scent of round two blowing on the wind that gently courses its way over the hilly horizon as the sun sets on the final page of a new chapter ... can you see it? Themes Of Fiddler On The Roof The classic tale of a Jewish family s struggle in a Russian society that is growing more and more hostile, Fiddler on the Roof is rich in historical and ethnic detail, with a central theme that crosses the barriers of race and class to become a classic musical that draws in audiences worldwide. Fiddler on the Roof is a favorite among many musical theatre lovers because of its humor, inspiring plot, and underlying theme of faith and tradition. Fiddler on the Roof is set in a Jewish community in pre revolutionary Russia, where every decision made by the residents of Anatevka, Ukraine, is centered in community and religious tradition. As a result of this impasse, the market doesn t find a solution because no one has the property rights to something like air or noise pollution. The role of the legal system in the Coase Theorem is to simply decide who gets the property rights. Because bargaining is assumed to be free, it doesn t matter who gets the property rights. If they are assigned to either the polluter or the victim, the market will always find an efficient outcome. IV. APPLYING COASE THEOREM TO THE GREAT SMOG OF 1952 There is a negative externality because the smog clearly causes external damage that is inflicted upon the general public of London. The factories are not bearing the entire cost of producing their goods because they are not paying for proper waste disposal. Factories were emitting harmful pollutants into the atmosphere which has a negative social cost because it was making people ill and causing deaths. The pollution (smog) is an externality, as the pollution from the factories imposed a cost on people who may have been neither consumers nor producers of these items. This is a legitimate externality because the property rights of air are not assigned to anyone. It would be efficient to allow the factories to pollute if the value of operating the factory was greater than the pollution cost imposed on the general public in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Automobile In The Great Gatsby If you were to have to choose one invention that had the largest impact on everyday life during the 20th century, the invention of the automobile may just have been the most important and impactful. Although the technology existed during the late 19th century to produce an automobile, had it not been for Henry Ford and his assembly lines, the automobile may have never been brought into the hands of the general population. With the expansion of the automobile industry came an economic revolution during the 1920s across the continental United States as thousands of jobs were created with the introduction of highway systems in 1921 with the Federal Aid Highway Act. Scott Fitzgerald published a series of three essays in one of which he wrote: I dreamed that I saw always at the wheel of a magnificent Stutz, a Stutz as low as a snake and as red an Indiana Barn. (The Crack Up, Fitzgerald, 226) The cars that Fitzgerald owned in his life, from a Rolls Royce, to a Buick, a Stutz, a Packard, a Ford Coupe and finally a Ford convertible would be a comparison between the dreams and realities he had in his life in his journey from careless youth to a cautious, middle aged man which was greatly representative of the characters in his novels as well. Fitzgerald s descriptions of Jay Gatsby s Rolls Royce in his 1925 novel The Great Gatsby are very similar to that of Morrison s as it is described as being a rich cream color, bright with nickel, swollen here and there in its monstrous length with triumphant hat boxes and upper boxes and tool boxes, and terraced with a labyrinth of wind shields that mirrored a dozen suns. Sitting down behind many layers of glass in a sort of green leather conservatory, we started to town. (Fitzgerald, 68) We later get mention of our narrator Nick Carraway s car, which was an old Dodge . A Dodge during the 1920s was considered to have been one step above Henry Ford s Model T with its 35 horsepower 4 cylinder L head engine, 12 volt electrical system, electric starter rather than a manual crank (which would prove to be the cause of many broken wrists for Model T owners), and an all steel body, making it about double the price of a Model T at ... • 25. The American Influence On Canada For many decades, writers and authors have accused the American influence on Canada as one of the reasons why Canada is losing its heritage, with one major aspect being the game of hockey. The institutionalization of American Culture began to take root in Canada during the late 1920 s and 1930s as technological advances, specifically the invention of the radio, allowed Canadians to enjoy American entertainment. American stations were much more reliable than Canadian ones, causing American sporting stations such as NBC and CBS to become extremely popular in Canada (Gruneau et al, 1993). As Canada was becoming intertwined with the United States (U.S.), it was becoming less of a satellite of Britain, which made it tremendously difficult for Canada s elite to protect British ideals such as self improvement and participating in sport for the game s sake. (Gruneau et al, 1993). In the early 1940 s, after the great depression forced many franchises to dismantle, the National Hockey League (NHL) was left with six teams, which made up the famous original six. At this time, America had a strong influence on the game, as four of the original six teams were based in the United States, and all of the players in league were paid in American dollars (Gruneau et al, 1993). By the early 1960 s, televised sports were emerging in North America, and NHL players were becoming mainstream stars. His determination allowed him to rise to power and destroy all opposition against his reign. The Great Purge, one of the greatest terrors in history, was also done due to his determination to stay in power. This same determination led to, as well as shaped, a large quantity of the events of World War 2. His leadership was similar to the leadership of Adolf Hitler, yet because of his determination, was quite different, and quite possibly more effective. In the end his determination for power led to the events of the Cold War. This determination greatly affected Stalin s rise to power, and allowed him to completely decimate all opposition to his leadership. Originally, Stalin was a powerless citizen of the USSR, yet he managed to quickly rise to the top of the political field. He began his role in politics by joining the Bolsheviks in 1903. Due to his thirst for power he steadily rose through the ranks of the party and was soon the General Secretary. The Bolshevik insurrection to Russian leadership was successful and placed Stalin in a position of great power. He then used his power to isolate members of the party in an attempt to take away their power and popularity. Determined to gain absolute dominance over the other members, he caused the dismissal, and possibly the deaths, of several of his political opponents. The spirit tries to kill a cheerleader going to Alexis s high school. They decided to go after the spirit and try to kill it. Throughout the entire book, they find different evidence of who the spirit is and what happened. The author wrote the book giving emotions of scare or terror, frightened or startled, and disgust. To do so she used lots of words and examples that you would see in horror movies. But instead of a horror movie, it was a horror novel. Has anyone ever changed their attitude or the way they acted? It is also good evidence to find the suspect and also the victim in some cases. This paper will discuss a variety of physical evidence like DNA, firearms and ballistics, and also drug evidence. It will also discuss how they are collected, documented and preserved. DNA Evidence DNA is one of the main and important evidence to find in a crime scene. DNA evidence can be anything like blood, bone, hair and body fluids. Crime scenes that contain this type of evidence comes with an advantage that, no two people have the same DNA (Dutelle, 2017). Therefore, it can be matched to a specific suspect or can also eliminate someone from being involved in a crime. Documenting DNA has a slight difference on how it is collected, documented and preserved. For example, blood has to be recorded by its physical state and if it is moist or dried. The amount present has to be recorded, for example, if there is a few drops or a small pool of blood. The shape of the blood has to be recorded if it is smeared or round drops, the location also needs to be recorded. The pattern of the stains, atmosphere conditions, date and time observed. • 30. Hamlet Soliloquy Analysis In Act III, Scene I of Hamlet, the titular character begins his soliloquy with the line To be, or not to be, that is the question (III.i.63). Here, he clearly states the dilemma that he will debate for the remainder of the passage: Is it better for Hamlet to continue living, or should he commit suicide to end his suffering? Hamlet continues his indecision between his two choices through the inclusion of metaphor, through which he describes the act of living as suffering The slings of arrows of outrageous fortune (III.i.65) and the act of committing suicide as to take arms against a sea of troubles (III.i.66). These metaphors are extremely significant, as they establish both the use of poetic language and the tone for the remainder of the passage. Shakespeare s uses metaphor here to compare Hamlet s indecision to a battle, with imagery used of weapons and fighting. This is done in order to reflect the battle that Hamlet is experiencing internally; the use of metaphor in this instance shows the reader how Hamlet is feeling about his indecision. Despite this indecision, Hamlet quickly begins contemplating the choice of suicide, saying To die, to sleep / No more (III.i.67 68). Here, Shakespeare introduces one of two significant extended metaphors that appear in the passage the comparison of death to sleep. This theme resonates throughout the passage, with Hamlet again and again referring to the act of dying as sleeping. He goes on to describe death as the end to the thousand natural shocks / That flesh is heir to (III.i.69 70), using hyperbole to heighten the emotion he is experiencing. Despite this heightened emotion and wishful thinking concerning suicide, a shift occurs within Hamlet when he begins to see the problems with suicide. Though this brief section introduces a key metaphor to the passage, Hamlet quickly shifts his point of view, something that will continually happen for the remainder for the passage. With this shift, Hamlet introduces the second extended metaphor of the passage when he says For in that sleep of death what dreams may come (III.i.73). Here, Shakespeare likens dreams, which come after sleep, with the afterlife, which comes after death. This metaphor is both indicative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction Of the several natural disasters that humanity has faced, Hurricane Katrina was one of the deadliest; it caused a depressingly high death toll of 1,833. In addition to taking human lives, Katrina caused massive economic destruction. In fact, it s the costliest natural disaster in US history with damage worth $108 billion. In order to impart destruction of such magnitude, Katrina had to be fearfully strong. The intensity of a hurricane is usually based on classification according to the Saffir Simpson hurricane wind scale. This scale categorizes hurricanes by their maximum sustained winds ranging from Category 1 to Category 5. When it comes to Hurricane Katrina, it s no surprise that it was rated as a Category 5 hurricane. European Banks are not required to hold a capital buffer against the sovereign debt holding of any European state, regardless of the risk involved. As a result European governments had issued excessive debt, taking advantage of a sovereign subsidy of other EU member states in the form of the 0 risk weight for their MFI. If such a risk finally materialises, MFI will be left undercapitalised because they do not hold a capital buffer for their sovereign exposure. Penelope and Telemachus pain of not knowing the fate of Odysseus, a father, and a husband, the frightening death of the overstayed suitors, and the agony put on the maids, who are raped and hurt repeatedly by the awful suitors. However, there are always situations that no one really wants to face that involve the terminally ill who have extremely low to no chance of recovery. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some people fear death while others only fear the uncertainty that leads up to it. To some, the process of prolonging the inevitable with an increasingly painful process can seem much more cruel and immoral that just allowing them to die on their own terms. Another prominent reason for the implication of a social policy for physician assistance in dying is to help to create a little less uncertainty when it comes to which situations, where death is involved, are okay. If no states had any policy on physician assistance in dying there would still be cases where the only thing left that can be done is to let the patient move on and die. Cases like these could be a withdrawing of treatment, abstaining from a treatment, or perhaps even a more direct method (within legal means). Situations like these could allow for a slippery slope argument on what can and will be accepted in end of life cases. If a social policy were to be put into place, it might help to define what type of instances it is relatively okay to allow death.
