Soap Operas Vs Pop Culture
When WGN Radio in Chicago first aired Painted Houses in 1930, a uniquely American form of
entertainment came into the world (Allen, 1985). In the eighty seven years since its birth, the
American daytime soap opera has entertained the masses through a great depression, two World
Wars, and 15 Presidents. The programs go by the moniker soap operas because the first producers
and sponsor of the programs were soap manufacturers such as Proctor and Gamble (Allen, 1985).
Since their introduction, the soap genre has captured the imaginations of millions and frequently
influenced other forms of entertainment. Sadly, today this beloved and persuasive pop culture
pioneer is at risk. At the present time, the number of American soap operas... Show more content on

Such celebrities include; Demi Moore, Meg Ryan, and Brad Pitt, just to name a few (Barnes,
B., Instyle.com). Furthermore, some established A list actors and actresses seek out roles on
soaps as fans of the show themselves. One example is the case of Elizabeth Taylor seeking out a
role on General Hospital in the 1980 s. Naturally, Gloria Monte, General Hospital head writer at
that time, honored Taylor s wish and cast her in the role of Helena Cassadine (Ford, 2010).
Similarly, General Hospital again created a role for James Franco in 2009 when he took on the
part of Robert Franco an artist/serial killer. Finally, celebrities aside, soap operas, as an undeniable
pop culture phenomenon, have been relevant and thus significant to countless everyday Americans
and American households over the past eight plus decades. Soaps, originally designed to appeal to
the average American, normally have at least one viewer in the midst of most families, while some
families have several soap watchers, who make viewing a daily family ritual (Healy, 2012). Stay at
home wives and mothers, the first target demographic of the daytime drama, historically felt the
influence of soap operas first, then shared that influence with the rest of the family, often times
without the rest of the family even realizing. One example of this is the number of children who

The Ebolic Ebola Virus
Our world is currently facing a deadly epidemic which we are calling it a very dangerous viruses
that humanity is facing since HIV/AIDS. This virus is called the Ebola hemorrhagic virus.
Although there were broadcasts about tentative cures that were conveyed to be prosperous with
treating the virus, people all around the world remain to pass on from Ebola. Although this virus
is fatal, its signs are occasionally the same as other less dangerous diseases like the flu or a
fever. To relax your anxiety about the spreading of the virus, it is very important to know what
people are currently dealing with when it comes to this sad epidemic. On the banks of the Ebola
River in 1976, Ebola was first revealed first in Africa. There are two types of the virus some are
deadly and some are not. There were only two ways to know who had this virus. Hence there were
multiple strains of it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Amongst the warning signs that show within the first opportunity, you are advised to mention any
fevers, and chills, accompanied with strong headaches, pain in the joints and or muscles, and just
general weakness all around. These are no different from the symptoms those usually may
experience when catching a severe cold, or flu, so people may ignore these signs and symptoms
and proceed to treat them as if a common cold or sickness. Once the virus continue developing,
you may then develop other symptoms such as nausea with vomiting, diarrhea, chest pains,
stomach pains, red eyes and rash over the body, severe weight loss, and bleeding from almost all

Gender And Gender Roles In George Eliot s Middlemarch
The term gender refers to our cultural programing as feminine or masculine, which are
categories created by society rather than by nature. Gender roles define the appropriate social
and behavioral norms adopted by men and women in a social setting. Gender roles reinforce the
notion that housework is women s work and mechanical/technical jobs are men s work. George
Eliot, born Mary Ann Evans, is considered one of the most creative writers of her time. At the
height of her career, Eliot was also generally regarded as the greatest living English novelist.
George Eliot s sixth novel, Middlemarch, depicts strong characters and the unconventional gender
roles of men and women and their marriages during the 19th century.
In 19th century England there was a great deal of social change and disorder. During this time
period, societal norms were being questioned as many people began calling for equality. In turn,
women s rights become a major issue in England. Before this call for gender equality, women had
been expected to marry men of equal social standing. Men were considered the heads of the
household providing for their families while women were expected to fulfill three main roles:
obeying and satisfying one s husband, keeping one s children physically and morally sound, and
maintaining the household. Author of Gender Politics and Women s Rights, Schor M. Hilary,
wrote during the 19th century, women were expected to center their lives on home and family and
they were expected

Hymns In America
I needed a more detailed account of the history and practices of the Swedish American Church.
What were the interactions like between the churches in America and the churches in Sweden?
How did different denominations function and interact? I choose to include this article because the
author answers these questions in the specific context of hymns. Hymns embody the experiential
nature of religion as songs of adoration and worship. The author of the article, George Ericson,
begins by detailing the evolution of hymns through various religious movements in Swedish
history. He focuses on the transatlantic transfer of hymns between America and Sweden. This
source reiterates the importance of Martin Luther and the Reformation. Olavus Petri published the
first Hymnal in the common language as a result of the Reformation (Ericson 103). Hymns shaped
the experience of religion for the common person. Different waves of religious revival inspired new
hymns to be written. The pietism movement... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Baptist, Methodist, and Pentecostal hymns were translated from English to Swedish during the
19th century. Often these songs would be sung to traditional folk tunes (despite some criticism).
Some immigrants would even return to Sweden and share lively tunes and inspiring lyrics on
preaching tours (Ericson 106). Unlike other countries, there was not an official connection between
the state church in Sweden and similar congregations in America. The adoption of new hymns
demonstrates the free churchly attitude apparent in the American Lutheran church. Free church
refers to a movement in Sweden in opposition to the state church which resulted in immigration.
From my other sources, I determined that religious motivations did not dominate Swedish
immigration. However, the love for certain hymns demonstrates a trend for Swedish believers to
distance their religious practice from the official church of

Write A Narrative Essay About Moving To Suburbss
It wasn t easy at first for Ludi to move to suburbs. The first time she heard a proposal from her
husband, Trevor, she was strictly against it. Being born and brought up in the city and now a
sudden shift to suburbs seemed something she can t get used to. A super fast life in the city versus
a relaxing life in suburbs were two different things according to her. It was bad enough that she was
a housewife; in the city, her time passed by pretty quickly doing the chores and going out and about.
Though, in the suburbs, her list of chores fell short. She found more time on her hand even after
finishing her daily activities.

putting her groceries away and was just finishing. She wiped her hands on a towel as she walked
with it to get the door. She pushed the tiny curtain to peek out of the small window next to the

something to her. She unlocked her door and opened it, seeming hesitant and giving him an
unpleasant gaze, showing she wasn t interested in what he was selling, May I help you? She said

if you zoom in again you will also find that a processor is made up of core s. There are two types
of processors a single core processor and a multiple processor the difference between them is that

To what extend does Asian grocery stores operate in an oligopolistic market in the region of
Chinatown of Victoria?
Abstract:
The Chinatown in Victoria is the oldest one in Canada and second in age to San Francisco s in
North America. As one of the national historical sites of Canada, Victoria s Chinatown remains an
active region for Victoria residents, tourists and Chinese Canadians. The modern Chinatown
continues to be a key component of downtown Victoria with a variety of tourist attractions
including bars, restaurants, food stores medicine shop and shopping areas nearby. The city of
Victoria embraces a multicultural society like the most of Canadian cities do. As the biggest
minority ethnic group, Asian population accounted for 23.5% of Victoria s total population and the
number has rapidly increased in recent years because of the trend of increasing immigration in the
province of British Columbia. Food has been an important part of Asian residents lives and I
became interested in investigating the grocery store market in Chinatown because of my enthuasim
of cooking as well as that the chapter of market structure interests me the most in microeconomics
in the course of IB Economics.
Based on my observations of the grocery stores and knowledge of the market structure, the question
is raised, to what extent does Asian

Examples Of Gerald In The Inspector Calls
In this play we can notoriously see that Gerald is a selfish person, who wants to marry Sheila
not only because of business, also because she is pretty. He does not care about other people; a
clear example is that he cheated on Sheila with Eva Smith. Gerald is not committed to his
relationship, this is shown when he unsuccessfully tries to hide that he had known Eva. In the end,
his efforts make the revelation ruder. He does not care about Sheila s feelings and he has not
gained a new sense of social responsibility, understanding that he, too, was part of the events that
led Eva s suicide. This is why Sheila is unsure whether to take back the engagementring or not.
Croft s family has a very high status in society, and since being in business with the Birlings
would not necessarily be good for their company, Gerald is engaged to Sheila because he wants
to. His parents are not happy as they think she is not good enough for Gerald and because... Show

We can justify this not only because of what he says, but also because of his actions. He is the
only character in the play, not counting the Inspector, that tried to help Eva Smith or Daisy
Renton and we can see this when he says I did not ask for anything in return . Even Though
Gerald gave her shelter, food and took her out from the Palace, after some months he abandoned
her and their love relation broke Daisy knew it was coming to an end. So I broke it off definitely
before I went . But on the other hand he does not care about Sheila, who is his fiancee and who
he cheated on her with Eva Smith and all he had for her was at least it s honest . This shows us
that Gerald did not care about how Sheila would feel about him cheating on her and how it would
affect her. He did not even feel guilty or told her about his affair until the inspector s arrival.
However, when Inspector Goole arrived, he wanted to justify himself and his acted by saying that
despite his affair he was being honest with

Vida Goldstein Persuasive Speech
Interview with Vida Goldstein
Vida Jane Mary Goldstein was a young pioneer in women s rights. She is one of Australia s
greatest suffragettes and has changed Australia even to this day. She was the first woman to ever
stand in parliament in Australia and got over 51 000 votes. She advocated for social justice,
women s rights and women s suffrage.
Good afternoon Miss. Goldstein, how are you?
Hello, I am great thanks.
Tell us about yourself.
I was born in Portland, Victoria on April 13th 1869 and I was the oldest child in my family. My
sisters and I were educated by a private governess and I went to the Presbyterian Ladies College.
My 2 sisters, Lina and Elsie got married, but Aileen didn t get married.

I helped my mother collected signatures for the women s suffrage petition in 1890 but I wanted to
do much more for women.
You never got married, is that correct?
Yes, I never got married. Nothing was more degrading than a woman to have to marry for a home.
Love should be the sole reason. Surely those with a brain to think, eyes to see and a mind to
reason must realise that the capitalist and a cooperative system prevail in its place. I got many
proposals but I rejected them all.
So you were the first woman to stand for election in the British Empire, how did you feel?
I felt like I made a change for women and I managed to get over 51 000 votes, although I never
managed to get a seat but most of my votes polled well except for in 1917. When I travelled to
America I was elected to be secretary for the United Nations for Woman Suffrage. Then with that I
made 2 newspapers, the Woman s Sphere and Woman Voter.

However, there may be errors in measurements due to this type of sampling method. For instance,
the estimation may be subjective and that clipping other unnecessary things such as the standing

influence the accuracies of the estimates of wet and dry biomass weights may also include
human error. If the wet weight was not dried for the dry weight estimate, then the value retrieved

considerations that might be drawn from the results from a range management perspective would
be to acknowledge the invasive species and abundancy. In terms of forage resources and
ecological health of these pastures is not so great with the cheatgrass increasing in abundancy
when it is an invasive species. In terms of any improvements, I believe the experimental design

taking the real measurement for data analaysis. Since only two sites were studied

can increase the risk of heart failure, heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure. For that reasons I
would like that you understand what the reason of your problem is. When the heart beats too hard
and fast, the levels of blood pressure increase. In normal conditions our body has a complex
system of regulation that allows the levels of pressure back to the normal ranks. This system which
is known as negative feedback is responsible for achieving balance in our bodies even if external
or internal changes occur. When any internal or external factor makes the blood pressure rise, we
have specialized cells located in the walls of some blood vessels that are able to detect the
problem and send nerve impulses to the brain which sends nerves impulses to the heart and blood
vessel that receive the information. As a result, the heart rate decrease, the blood vessels dilate,
and the blood pressure goes down. Finally, the body goes back to the balance condition that is
called homeostasis. In your case this natural process does not occur and for that reason you

The major motive behind 15th and 16th century exploration was trade, European countries

A Comparison Between Sodium Thisulfate And Carbonic Acid
The sodium cation did not have an effect on pH. We tested sodium acetate, sodium carbonate,
sodium bicarbonate, sodium bisulfate, sodium bisulfite, sodium chloride, sodium citrate, sodium

13.00, which were sodium bisulfate and sodium hydroxide, respectively. Sodium bisulfite and
sodium carbonate had average measured pHs of 4.24 and 11.13, respectively. Since this range is

For a pool to be usable to swim in, it must be at a certain pH. If a pool is too basic or too acidic,
then this can cause some serious health issues to that particular person. Most people monitor the
pH to be at 7.5 to get the most effectiveness of sanitation. Another application where pH is
important is when studying the stomach. The human stomach contains gastric acid, which is
used to break down food particles. This is beneficial with digestion but can cause problems such
as heartburn. Heartburn occurs when the gastric acid in one s stomach goes back up to the
esophagus. This can be counteracted however by using a basic substance such as Tums. The base
will then make the solution in the esophagus neutral and relieve the person of their heartburn. D)

fact that they are strong acids and bases. Strong acids and bases completely ionize when put into a

Framing Effect In Frankenstein
Framing effect is the concept in psychology that the way information is presented influences how
the audience feels about the information and can affect the judgments the audience makes about the
information (July 2011. Web. 17 May 2016. .) First we have Walton talking to his sister. Then we
have Victor telling Walton the story. In middle of the story we have the monster telling his part of
the story to Victor, and then Victor telling the monster s story to Walton. Discussing the framing
and how it contributes to the ghost story contributes to the theme that Mary Shelley was going for
in the novel.
To begin with, the three main characters that are involved with the framing of the story are Victor
Frankenstein, Robert Walton, and The Monster. Victor was the creator of the monster. He tried
playing God,but it backfired. Throughout the framing he speaks of his story to Walton, making

The Tv Crichton Smith
THE TV
Iain Crichton Smith, a Scottish poet, acclaimed for his focus on the ever present theme of
geographical exile. Through his work, he can be seen to describe the process of leaving home
particularly in a rural place similar to the island in which he grew up in. However, his use of exile
in many different forms can be found in a variety of Crichton Smith s poetry, resulting in what can
be analysed as a deeper and more meaningful sense of the idea of exile. He effectively explores
the cultural and religious background behind those who ultimately distance themselves from the
reality of the modern day world he was living in. He explores the idea of death as a final type of
exile which can be interpreted as the subject of the poem turning away from death in hopes that
they can flee from the inescapable finality of death.
Throughout his poetry, Crichton Smith uses exile to indicate what appears to be a gap between a
fantasy and a reality. His piece, The TV effectively highlights the idea of technology disrupting the
general human values which had been in place in his tight knitted community. The emotive

America s Orchestras Are In Crisis Analysis
In the article America s Orchestras are in Crisis , Kennicot underlines the fact that the American
orchestras have been undergoing a rough patch in the recent times. He uses the example of the
Schermerhorn Symphony Center, which in spite of the massive investment that was made its
creation, it has been accumulating debts and having a bleak future. This is also the case for
Nashville Symphony, which has been accumulating deficits to the tune of $10 to $20 million per
year. This shows an extremely bleak picture as far as the future of symphony orchestrais concerned.
Indeed, similar sentiments are expressed by Jennie Dorris in The Audition , where she gives the
story of Tetreault, a Colorado based percussionist who has put in 100 hour weeks... Show more

This statement is pointing at the increased disconnect between the likes and preferences of the
youth population or rather the younger entrepreneurs and the ideas that are increasingly propagated
by the orchestra players. It should be noted that a large number of individual donors and
institutional funders are questioning the continued investment in orchestras, yet the musicians
continue to build their hopes on the efficiency of renewed fundraising efforts without considering
the change or dynamic nature of the feelings of younger generations regarding this type of music. In
essence, the orchestra musicians simply want to ignore their current need for gratification and
instead pay attention to ideas that are alien to them. This should point to what is already wrong
with the orchestra world of music. Of course, there are people who are attracted to it simply
because it sets them apart from the masses who would not feel at ease paying excessively for a
type of music that does not offer gratification to their immediate needs. However, a vast majority
would only feel comfortable paying for music that appeals to their souls. Essentially, it should be
clear that the financial problems that are attributable to the

Massive Anti-Islam Sentiment in the United States Essay
Islam is a monotheistic religion, centered around the teachings of the Qu ran and serving Allah
(meaning God in Arabic). However, this Abrahamic religion has been harshly discriminated against
in the United States for years. Most prominently throughout the last twelve years, post September
11th, 2001. Unfortunately, issues such as socialization through the media, power distribution,
religious ignorance, stereotyping and visible differences have contributed to the ill attitudes

The Problem Of Homelessness And Homelessness Essay
There is an ever growing number of homeless persons within our society. While it has become a
popular topic of discussion as to why people become homeless little discussion has occurred about
the homeless reintegrating back into society. Many steps must be taken in order for a homeless
person to be able to create and maintain a steady life. There must be an acknowledgment of the
barriers that led to homelessness. These barriers may be a numerous amount of things such as
substance abuse, personal trauma, unhealthy relationships, health problems, or unemployment. No
matter the barrier, goals need to be set and must be realistic. If the goals seem impossible to reach
they will be. Finally, there must be a commitment to following through with the set goals and a
realization that this is an ongoing process that will not change overnight.
There is a misinformed stigma of homelessness, which is that all homeless persons are in their
situation because of substance abuse or this is at least, in part, why they are unable to overcome
homelessness, and that all homeless persons are unemployed. While mental illness and chronic
substance abuse are the most common disabilities within homeless communities (Schutt, 2009) they
are not the only factors as to why an individual may become homeless. As mentioned above,
personal traumas, health problems, unhealthy relationships and lack of employment can lead to
homelessness. An alarming amount of veterans are now homeless due to coming home

Victorian Visual Imagination
Carol T. Christ and John O. Jordan first used the term Victorian visual imagination in 1995 in their
book Victorian literature and the Victorian Visual Imagination and Kate Flint re used it five years
later in her book The Victorians and the Visual Imagination. Christ and Jordan explain that aesthetic
theorists in nineteenth century Britain regarded the eyeas the pre eminent organ of truth and that
poetic theory of the nineteenth century hailed the inward eye and the poet s power of painting a
picture to the inward eye , thus creating a word painting (xxii xxiii). The painting of pictures in
one s mind s eye is seen in the poetry of Alfred Lord Tennyson where his extensive descriptions of
Nature are used to produce what Henry James called the illusion of life (Christ and Jordan xx).

At mid century, Tennyson and Browning had evolved a distinct poetics from their Romantic roots:

Delegation Decentralization
DELEGATION Delegation is an integral component of the organizing process. Since manager is
responsible for the performance of such a large variety of tasks, activities and functions that he
cannot perform them all by himself, he assigns a part of work to his subordinates. In doing so he
keeps with himself those tasks and functions which he consider crucial to his goal accomplishment
and transfer to his subordinates less important work which he need not to do himself. It is through
this process of assignments of task and activities to his sub ordinates that he can devote his time,

informed about: 1. the goal or objective of the task, 2. the results to be achieved, 3. performance
standards required, 4. quality standards to be observed, 5. the importance and relevance of the
task and 6. the exact procedures to be followed. 4. The next step in the delegation flowchart
requires that the leader or the supervisor take an inventory of the resources that are needed for
the successful completion of the task to be delegated. If ample resources are not available, the
required resources should be procured at this step. 5. With all this done, the duties and
responsibilities for the task can be delegated. Also, it s important to establish timelines and
deadlines for the task after discussing the same with the employee to whom the work has been
delegated. 6. The delegation process doesn t end right here, there is one more important thing to do
before the delegation process can be considered as complete.

Investigating The Friction Of A Sliding Block With And...
Introduction
Friction is a force that is directed against the direction of motion. It usually acts to slow down the
moving object. In some occasions, this force can be useful such as in the case where vehicles are
making turns. In these cases, the frictional forces provide the needed force to stay on the track. In
this experiment, we used a force sensor and a computer to determine the friction of a sliding block
with and without different masses on it.
Procedure
Description of setup
We connected the force sensor to the labquest, and from the latter to the computer. A string was
then tied to the hook on the woodblock and the other end to the force sensor s hook. Photo below.
The range switch on the force sensor was set to 10N. After this, the logger pro was launched and
the setup was zeroed. To zero the setup, there had to be no tension in the string; then we hit the Р¤
looking button to zero.
Outline of technique
It was necessary to know the mass of the woodblock throughout this experiment. So, its mass was
weighed and recorded in the table below. A 1 kg mass was then, placed on the top of the
woodblock. From here, we were ready to pull the force sensor and see what results we get on the
graphs. A small force was applied to the force sensor and then pulled hard enough to set the system
in motion. The pulling was continued for some time and it was done steadily and at the same pace.
Various other massed were tested and the resulting frictions that they produced are recorded

Although the genre of music is fairly new, the idea of rap is very old. What is classified as rap
and hip hop music was created thousands of years ago. Ancient African storytellers or groits used
handmade instruments while communicating their stories in a fashion similar to what is seen as
modern day rap music. The concept of speaking over music is rap music in its most rudimentary
form. Rap has been created to provide an outlet for individuals to expose injustices, the artist s
thoughts and feelings of oppression, and their reaction to a dominant culture. They present those
ideas in an artistic medium to a wide audience, those within their community and those far from it.
Most commonly, rap aims to expose and comment on socio political injustices, nationalism, or self
esteem. The rap genre was originally created by men, however female involvement; Salt N Pepa,
Queen Latifah and MC Lyte were some of the first female rappers, emerging on the previously male
dominated scene in the 1980 s. Although the genre is typically male dominated, the involvement of
women is bringing a new perspective and vision to the genre, instead of using blatant machismo,
their life experiences as women are tied throughout their lyrics.

pushing the envelope. In 2013, Jay Z was the executive

Rebellion ended when President Washington sent close to 13,000 soldiers to the relatively small

The Republicans, led by Jefferson and Madison, were supporters of States rights. They believed that
the American Revolution occurred to free America from British control and allow the creation of
a country led by self governing people. The Federalists, led by Washington and Hamilton, agreed
that the American Revolution took place to free America, but asserted that the newly freed needed
a strong central government to provide guidance. THe debate that occurred over Hamilton s
proposed assumption plan is another prime example of the seat of power dispute. Hamilton
proposed the national government to assume all the states debt incurred from the American
Revolution. Hamilton regarded the national debt as a national blessing, for it permitted the
clustering of resources in the hands of a small group of enterprising men who would invest and
not just spend it. (Page 64) Madison believed this plan to be unfair to the states, mostly southern,
that had already paid back large sums of their respective debts. The assumption proposal therefore
did them an injustice, by compelling them, after having done their duty, to contribute to those states
who have not equally done their duty. (Page 57) The resulting Assumption Bill that was approved

good decisions and are responsible then you can have a good future. I do not think your future is

it is very difficult to pick a protagonist and antagonist in this play of Julius Caesar, the protagonist
seems to be Brutus and the two antagonists are Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. Brutus is trying to
preserve the republic of Rome and does everything he does for what he thinks is the good of
Rome. His actions of helping kill Caesar, in his mind, are all good and show the theme of the

Julius Caesar and Mark Antony are shown trying to become tyrants in the eyes of Brutus and

performed by instrumentalists and acting singers They became popular in the seventeenth century

Response To Our Town Journal
Our Town Journals (responses will be uploaded to TurnItIn.com) 10 points each
How is your hometown like Grover s Corners? How is your town different? When I was
watching the movie Our Town it reminded me of my home town of Randall. The first similarity
is that the newspaper was delivered once a week at the same time by Alex. A couple of blocks
away from where we lived in Randall there was a doctor and his wife was a stay at home mom.
The second to last similarity is that it is just a small enough community that everyone know
everyone by their name just like in Grovers Corner. The last similarity is that it just feels like home
and that I don t want to move away from it any time soon.
There are not a lot of differences than similarities which I think is a good thing. I think that our
town is a perfect setting for raising a family. A physical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What does Mrs. Soames mean when she says, My, wasn t life awful and wonderful.
I think what Mrs. Soames ment by this was being born is an wonderful thing. Just like what they
said when you are born it is natures attempt to make a perfect child. So you have to make the
most of you life. You just cant sit around and do noting you have to do something meaningful in
your life time. Then she said that life was awful. What I think that she ment by this was life is
wonderful but you have to live life to love life. Death is the main part she talks about. So just dont
lie around and do noting you have to do something in your life.
8. How does Thornton Wilder reflect the theme of carpe diem in this play?
Thornton Wilder gave us a lot of life lessons in the play. the most meaningful one that I think of
is when Emily goes back in time and visits her 12th birthday. Everyone talked her out of doing a
big event so she choose this date. They said this date would overwhelm her. It did overwhelm her
so must that she had to leave in the first 10 minuets. When she got back she noticed that everyday

Grounded Theory Essay
The use of illicit substances has become increasing common in schizophrenia (Asher Gask, 2010).
Illicit substance use by persons with a diagnosis of schizophrenia has long been associated with
increased severity of psychosis, psychiatric hospital inpatient admissions, higher rates of
readmission and poor treatment outcomes (Asher Gask, 2010; Charles Weaver, 2010; Hambrecht
Hafner, 1996; Swofford, Kasckow, Scheller Gilkey Inderbitzin, 1996). It has also been
acknowledged that persons diagnosed with schizophrenia are more likely to use illicit substances
within their lifetime than the general population, with rates of comorbid substance use fluctuating
from 15 to 65% in persons diagnosed with schizophrenia (Charles Weaver, 2010; Malchow et al,
2012). So... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Approach
For this research article the author has chosen to use a grounded theory approach. Grounded theory
is a qualitative method of research which allows the researchers to construct meaning of the
selected topic via a process of development and reflection of the data collected (Charmaz, 2014).
Grounded theory provides a flexible and intuitive process to data collection and analysis allowing
the construction of a theory that is truly grounded from the data (Charmaz, 2014).
Grounded theory was developed in the 1960s by two sociologists with the idea that meaning is
developed through interaction with experience (Polit Beck, 2017; Starks Brown Trinidad, 2007).
It is often used to explain and explore social process and the lived experience and perceptions of
others, providing enlightenment to researchers, practitioners or clinicians on the chosen topic. For
the purpose of exploring the consumers experiences of comorbid schizophrenia and substance abuse
grounded theory will allow real world experiences to be collected and compared to then generate
meaning and understanding which can assist clinicians in the development of

The Global Financial Crisis Of Broward College
Research Paper: The Global Financial Crisis
Michelle Beira
Broward College
There have been few financial crises in the United States. The Global Financial Crisis of 2008 to
2009 was the most recent and before that was The Great Depression of the 1930s. The Global
Financial Crisis actually began in 2007 when prices of homes tanked. It not only affected the U.S.
but it also affected economies overseas. The entire investment banking industry, some of the biggest
insurance companies, enterprises government used for mortgage lending, top mortgage lenders, the
largest savings and loan companies, and two of the largest commercial banks were many of the
financial sectors affected by the crisis. Banks stopped making loans, share prices plunged
throughout the world and most of the world plummeted into a recession (The Financial Crisis of
2008: Year In Review 2008, 2009, para. 1). Globalization of financial markets began after the
Depression and World War II. After the Great Depressionand World War II there was much
physical and economic ruin in Europe, Asia and parts of Africa which allowed the U.S. to
become a leader in the world financial system. Top world leaders like France, Germany, Britain
and Japan were economically and financially unstable. The U.S. was the only stable capitalist
country which means it was capable of determining the terms of a new world economic order (
The 2008 World Economic Crisis: Global Shifts and Faultlines, 2009, para. 34). The first task in

Oregon Trail Research Paper
The Oregon Trail is one of the most famous of the pioneer trails and is the largest land migration
in American history. Settlers from all across the country, men, woman, and children packed up
their possesions and prepared for the 2,000 miles to Oregon. Many had dreams of riches and a
better life. It s well documented the strugles and hardships they faced, but women in particular
shared just as much hardship as men if not more.
As we take a look closer look at the struggles pioneer women faced during their migration it
becomes clear the importance of woman during this historical event.
Death was a constint life along the Oregon Trail. Jane Kellogg, a female pioneer wrote, There was
an epidemic of cholera, think it was caused from drinking

Essay about The Cuban Missile Crisis
When President John F. Kennedy failed with the Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba in 1961, the United
States started placing fifteen Jupiter intermediate range ballistic missiles (IRBM) near Izmir,
Turkey. Even though President Kennedy said that these missiles might have questionable strategic
value the Soviet Premier, Nikita Khrushchev, made America aware of his anger and distain
regarding Kennedy s decision. Khrushchev believed that these missiles were not only an offense to
him, but to his country as well. However, the United States also possessed nuclear submarines
which posed an even greater threat than the IRBM s. The Soviet Unioncame to realize that they
were extremely outmatched in the area of nuclear weapons and the decision by... Show more

The EX COMM committee was unaware of Khrushchev s intentions if an invasion were to take
place. Kennedy was, however, determined to take such drastic measures this early on in the
conflict and talk of a blockade was in the air. No matter what the United States would do,
officials believed that retaliation from the Soviets was inevitable. However, anything other than
the use of nuclear weapons was deemed as a smart decision at the time. The decision to invade
Cuba was finally thrown out , leaving only two decisions left. An air raid on Cuba could be used
which would kill many people and possibly risk nuclear missile launch. The other decision was
for a blockade or quarantine to be set up around Cuba to keep incoming missiles and supplies from
reaching the coast. A quarantine of Cuba would be carried out and seemed to be the best possible
choice, under the circumstances. The decision made by President Kennedy, saved America from
nuclear war that day. If the United States had invaded Cuba then the Soviet Union would have a
launched an attack, which in turn would have caused America to launch their missiles at Cuba and
the Soviet Union. This ultimately would have led to global nuclear warfare and the loss of life
would have been substantial. The significance of the decision not to invade Cuba was a life saving
one but, other issues during the short thirteen day timeframe would

Nuclear Energy
A report for Zebra Tech
Abstract
This report reviews energy sources of the world traditionally used to generate electricity, namely
renewable and non renewable sources, giving a brief overview of each of the 6 methods and how
they generate electricity, and evaluates the suitability of each by weighing up their advantages and
disadvantages. It introduces nuclear energy and gives a detailed description of the setup and process
whereby electricity is produced from nuclear energy. By weighing up a broad spectrum of
advantages and disadvantages of using nuclear energy, specifically various costs, risks and
efficiency, in comparison to traditional generation methods, the report determines that nuclear

disadvantages of cost to build power plants and potential risks of radiation due to mishandling.

There are numerous energy sources used worldwide, both renewable and non renewable. The
following are the most common.
2.1. Renewable energy
2.1.1. Wind energy
A popular renewable energy source is wind energy, used globally. Kinetic energy in the form of
wind turns large turbines, which the convert this energy into mechanical energy, or electricity, as it
supplies an electric generator, producing an electric current. As the wind turns the blades of the
turbine, a shaft connected to a generator is consequently spun, resulting in the production of

  • 2. Soap Operas Vs Pop Culture When WGN Radio in Chicago first aired Painted Houses in 1930, a uniquely American form of entertainment came into the world (Allen, 1985). In the eighty seven years since its birth, the American daytime soap opera has entertained the masses through a great depression, two World Wars, and 15 Presidents. The programs go by the moniker soap operas because the first producers and sponsor of the programs were soap manufacturers such as Proctor and Gamble (Allen, 1985). Since their introduction, the soap genre has captured the imaginations of millions and frequently influenced other forms of entertainment. Sadly, today this beloved and persuasive pop culture pioneer is at risk. At the present time, the number of American soap operas... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such celebrities include; Demi Moore, Meg Ryan, and Brad Pitt, just to name a few (Barnes, B., Instyle.com). Furthermore, some established A list actors and actresses seek out roles on soaps as fans of the show themselves. One example is the case of Elizabeth Taylor seeking out a role on General Hospital in the 1980 s. Naturally, Gloria Monte, General Hospital head writer at that time, honored Taylor s wish and cast her in the role of Helena Cassadine (Ford, 2010). Similarly, General Hospital again created a role for James Franco in 2009 when he took on the part of Robert Franco an artist/serial killer. Finally, celebrities aside, soap operas, as an undeniable pop culture phenomenon, have been relevant and thus significant to countless everyday Americans and American households over the past eight plus decades. Soaps, originally designed to appeal to the average American, normally have at least one viewer in the midst of most families, while some families have several soap watchers, who make viewing a daily family ritual (Healy, 2012). Stay at home wives and mothers, the first target demographic of the daytime drama, historically felt the influence of soap operas first, then shared that influence with the rest of the family, often times without the rest of the family even realizing. Although this virus is fatal, its signs are occasionally the same as other less dangerous diseases like the flu or a fever. To relax your anxiety about the spreading of the virus, it is very important to know what people are currently dealing with when it comes to this sad epidemic. • 4. Gender And Gender Roles In George Eliot s Middlemarch The term gender refers to our cultural programing as feminine or masculine, which are categories created by society rather than by nature. Gender roles define the appropriate social and behavioral norms adopted by men and women in a social setting. Gender roles reinforce the notion that housework is women s work and mechanical/technical jobs are men s work. George Eliot, born Mary Ann Evans, is considered one of the most creative writers of her time. At the height of her career, Eliot was also generally regarded as the greatest living English novelist. George Eliot s sixth novel, Middlemarch, depicts strong characters and the unconventional gender roles of men and women and their marriages during the 19th century. In 19th century England there was a great deal of social change and disorder. During this time period, societal norms were being questioned as many people began calling for equality. In turn, women s rights become a major issue in England. Before this call for gender equality, women had been expected to marry men of equal social standing. Men were considered the heads of the household providing for their families while women were expected to fulfill three main roles: obeying and satisfying one s husband, keeping one s children physically and morally sound, and maintaining the household. Author of Gender Politics and Women s Rights, Schor M. Hilary, wrote during the 19th century, women were expected to center their lives on home and family and they were expected ... • 5. Hymns In America I needed a more detailed account of the history and practices of the Swedish American Church. What were the interactions like between the churches in America and the churches in Sweden? How did different denominations function and interact? I choose to include this article because the author answers these questions in the specific context of hymns. Hymns embody the experiential nature of religion as songs of adoration and worship. The author of the article, George Ericson, begins by detailing the evolution of hymns through various religious movements in Swedish history. He focuses on the transatlantic transfer of hymns between America and Sweden. This source reiterates the importance of Martin Luther and the Reformation. Olavus Petri published the first Hymnal in the common language as a result of the Reformation (Ericson 103). Hymns shaped the experience of religion for the common person. Different waves of religious revival inspired new hymns to be written. The pietism movement... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Baptist, Methodist, and Pentecostal hymns were translated from English to Swedish during the 19th century. Often these songs would be sung to traditional folk tunes (despite some criticism). Some immigrants would even return to Sweden and share lively tunes and inspiring lyrics on preaching tours (Ericson 106). Unlike other countries, there was not an official connection between the state church in Sweden and similar congregations in America. The adoption of new hymns demonstrates the free churchly attitude apparent in the American Lutheran church. Free church refers to a movement in Sweden in opposition to the state church which resulted in immigration. From my other sources, I determined that religious motivations did not dominate Swedish immigration. However, the love for certain hymns demonstrates a trend for Swedish believers to distance their religious practice from the official church of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A super fast life in the city versus a relaxing life in suburbs were two different things according to her. Gerald is not committed to his relationship, this is shown when he unsuccessfully tries to hide that he had known Eva. In the end, his efforts make the revelation ruder. He does not care about Sheila s feelings and he has not gained a new sense of social responsibility, understanding that he, too, was part of the events that led Eva s suicide. This is why Sheila is unsure whether to take back the engagementring or not. This system which is known as negative feedback is responsible for achieving balance in our bodies even if external or internal changes occur. When any internal or external factor makes the blood pressure rise, we have specialized cells located in the walls of some blood vessels that are able to detect the problem and send nerve impulses to the brain which sends nerves impulses to the heart and blood vessel that receive the information. Those against involuntary commitment of the mentally disordered argue that it is an extraordinary exercise of paternalism and the police power of the state (Morse 58). Through his work, he can be seen to describe the process of leaving home particularly in a rural place similar to the island in which he grew up in. However, his use of exile in many different forms can be found in a variety of Crichton Smith s poetry, resulting in what can be analysed as a deeper and more meaningful sense of the idea of exile. He effectively explores the cultural and religious background behind those who ultimately distance themselves from the reality of the modern day world he was living in. He explores the idea of death as a final type of exile which can be interpreted as the subject of the poem turning away from death in hopes that they can flee from the inescapable finality of death. Throughout his poetry, Crichton Smith uses exile to indicate what appears to be a gap between a fantasy and a reality. He uses the example of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, which in spite of the massive investment that was made its creation, it has been accumulating debts and having a bleak future. This is also the case for Nashville Symphony, which has been accumulating deficits to the tune of $10 to $20 million per year. This statement is pointing at the increased disconnect between the likes and preferences of the youth population or rather the younger entrepreneurs and the ideas that are increasingly propagated by the orchestra players. It should be noted that a large number of individual donors and institutional funders are questioning the continued investment in orchestras, yet the musicians continue to build their hopes on the efficiency of renewed fundraising efforts without considering the change or dynamic nature of the feelings of younger generations regarding this type of music. In essence, the orchestra musicians simply want to ignore their current need for gratification and instead pay attention to ideas that are alien to them. This should point to what is already wrong with the orchestra world of music. Of course, there are people who are attracted to it simply because it sets them apart from the masses who would not feel at ease paying excessively for a type of music that does not offer gratification to their immediate needs. • 27. The Problem Of Homelessness And Homelessness Essay There is an ever growing number of homeless persons within our society. While it has become a popular topic of discussion as to why people become homeless little discussion has occurred about the homeless reintegrating back into society. Many steps must be taken in order for a homeless person to be able to create and maintain a steady life. There must be an acknowledgment of the barriers that led to homelessness. These barriers may be a numerous amount of things such as substance abuse, personal trauma, unhealthy relationships, health problems, or unemployment. No matter the barrier, goals need to be set and must be realistic. If the goals seem impossible to reach they will be. Finally, there must be a commitment to following through with the set goals and a realization that this is an ongoing process that will not change overnight. There is a misinformed stigma of homelessness, which is that all homeless persons are in their situation because of substance abuse or this is at least, in part, why they are unable to overcome homelessness, and that all homeless persons are unemployed. While mental illness and chronic substance abuse are the most common disabilities within homeless communities (Schutt, 2009) they are not the only factors as to why an individual may become homeless. As mentioned above, personal traumas, health problems, unhealthy relationships and lack of employment can lead to homelessness. An alarming amount of veterans are now homeless due to coming home ... In some occasions, this force can be useful such as in the case where vehicles are making turns. In these cases, the frictional forces provide the needed force to stay on the track. In this experiment, we used a force sensor and a computer to determine the friction of a sliding block with and without different masses on it. Procedure Description of setup We connected the force sensor to the labquest, and from the latter to the computer. A string was then tied to the hook on the woodblock and the other end to the force sensor s hook. Photo below. The range switch on the force sensor was set to 10N. After this, the logger pro was launched and the setup was zeroed. To zero the setup, there had to be no tension in the string; then we hit the Р¤ looking button to zero. Outline of technique It was necessary to know the mass of the woodblock throughout this experiment. So, its mass was weighed and recorded in the table below. A 1 kg mass was then, placed on the top of the woodblock. From here, we were ready to pull the force sensor and see what results we get on the graphs. A small force was applied to the force sensor and then pulled hard enough to set the system in motion. The pulling was continued for some time and it was done steadily and at the same pace. THe debate that occurred over Hamilton s proposed assumption plan is another prime example of the seat of power dispute. Hamilton proposed the national government to assume all the states debt incurred from the American Revolution. Hamilton regarded the national debt as a national blessing, for it permitted the clustering of resources in the hands of a small group of enterprising men who would invest and not just spend it. (Page 64) Madison believed this plan to be unfair to the states, mostly southern, that had already paid back large sums of their respective debts. The assumption proposal therefore did them an injustice, by compelling them, after having done their duty, to contribute to those states who have not equally done their duty. • 43. Grounded Theory Essay The use of illicit substances has become increasing common in schizophrenia (Asher Gask, 2010). Illicit substance use by persons with a diagnosis of schizophrenia has long been associated with increased severity of psychosis, psychiatric hospital inpatient admissions, higher rates of readmission and poor treatment outcomes (Asher Gask, 2010; Charles Weaver, 2010; Hambrecht Hafner, 1996; Swofford, Kasckow, Scheller Gilkey Inderbitzin, 1996). It has also been acknowledged that persons diagnosed with schizophrenia are more likely to use illicit substances within their lifetime than the general population, with rates of comorbid substance use fluctuating from 15 to 65% in persons diagnosed with schizophrenia (Charles Weaver, 2010; Malchow et al, 2012). Kennedy failed with the Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba in 1961, the United States started placing fifteen Jupiter intermediate range ballistic missiles (IRBM) near Izmir, Turkey. Even though President Kennedy said that these missiles might have questionable strategic value the Soviet Premier, Nikita Khrushchev, made America aware of his anger and distain regarding Kennedy s decision. Khrushchev believed that these missiles were not only an offense to him, but to his country as well. The EX COMM committee was unaware of Khrushchev s intentions if an invasion were to take place. Kennedy was, however, determined to take such drastic measures this early on in the conflict and talk of a blockade was in the air. No matter what the United States would do, officials believed that retaliation from the Soviets was inevitable. However, anything other than the use of nuclear weapons was deemed as a smart decision at the time. The decision to invade Cuba was finally thrown out , leaving only two decisions left. An air raid on Cuba could be used which would kill many people and possibly risk nuclear missile launch. The other decision was for a blockade or quarantine to be set up around Cuba to keep incoming missiles and supplies from reaching the coast. A quarantine of Cuba would be carried out and seemed to be the best possible choice, under the circumstances. The decision made by President Kennedy, saved America from nuclear war that day. If the United States had invaded Cuba then the Soviet Union would have a launched an attack, which in turn would have caused America to launch their missiles at Cuba and the Soviet Union. This ultimately would have led to global nuclear warfare and the loss of life would have been substantial. The significance of the decision not to invade Cuba was a life saving one but, other issues during the short thirteen day timeframe would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
