Major Depression Essay
Depression and other mood disorders tend to proliferate as a result of multiple, complex, biological,
psychological and social factors, including war and other violent conflicts, natural disasters, poverty
and limited access to resources. An amalgamation of genetic and environmental factors unite to
unchain depression (Sullivan et al., 2000; Wong and Licinio, 2001; Lesch, 2004; Hamet and Tremblay,
2005; Ebmeier et al., 2006). Several vulnerability genes of large or little effect, in relations with each
other and in combination with environmental factors, generate susceptibility to the disorder. Individual
s personal threshold or vulnerability to depression is a considerable determinant of depression. Some
people are more likely to become more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Traditional genetic linkage studies and candidate gene methods have been used with reasonably
limited achievement in major depression. Genetic models of etiology commonly believe a large
number of genes with comparatively little contributions to liability. Progresses in high genotyping and
microarray method have made it more possible to discover genes with little effect sizes (Hong and
Tsai, 2003). It is of particular clinical concerns those studies which are based on pathophysiological
ideas (candidate genes) and in particular those that observe the possibility of patients to respond to
particular treatments. Serotonin (5 HT) systems is involved in Genetic susceptibility because
tryptophan reduction in healthy individuals is observed to stimulate depressive symptoms only if they
have affected relatives (Benkelfat et al., 1994).Polymorphism in the serotonin transporter (5 HTT)
gene are of more particular concern in depression. A polymorphism in the 5 promoter region
consisting of a short (s) and a long (L) L allele with the s allele being related with reduced 5 HT
transmembrane transport and decreased transporter mRNA has been

Theme of Social Hierarchy in William Shakespeare s Henry...
Theme of Social Hierarchy in William Shakespeare s Henry V, Twelfth Night and Macbeth
Henry V, Twelfth Night, and Macbeth cover the whole field of Shakespearean genres, but it is amazing
how Shakespeare displays a theme and carries it through in any kind of play he wants to. Historic,
comic, and tragic plays are about as different as you can get, yet when we take a closer look we see
many similarities among them, especially in the area of social hierarchy. In all three of these plays,
Shakespeare uses a similar theme, which he conveys and proves through his characters. Twelfth Night
s Malvolio, and Macbeth s Macbeth, Henry V s Henry all hold social status, and they spread the social
scale, one a servant, one a nobleman, and one a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Malvolio is a servant, desiring and seeking to climb the social ladder by marrying his master, a
wealthy woman in society. Malvolio is stepping far beyond his bounds as a servant, and he doesn t see
that he is out of line. To marry up a class level was unheard of, but Malvolio doesn t even seem to
think about this. He is set on winning Olivia s love from the moment he thinks about the things he can
get from it. He isn t really punished for his committal of a social taboo, but he is demeaned and taken
back down to a servant s level through the joke that Toby, Maria, and Feste play on him. Shakespeare
doesn t say that marrying up is wrong, because the marriage of Maria and Toby is given a positive
light. Shakespeare does make it very clear that it is not proper for a servant, or anyone for that matter,
to attempt to climb the social lattice, especially through marriage.
In Macbeth, Macbeth is a Thane, a much higher social status than a slave. This is a position of
nobility, and Macbeth is content with it. His and Banquo s meeting with the Weird Sisters and the
subsequent fulfillment of part of the witches prophecies about Macbeth is what begins to discontent
Macbeth. Macbeth says, If chance may have me King, why, chance may crown me (Macbeth
I.iii.158), but it is shortly after this that Macbeth is easily drawn in by his wife s enticement with
power and

How Popular Fiction Reflects Debates About Gender and...
For the last few decades it is argued to what extent popular fiction reflects such things as social
changes in our society and topical debates. In this paper I will discuss to what extent popular fiction
reflects debates about gender and sexuality. Moreover, I will look at the difference between
postfeminism and third wave feminism, afterwards I will more closely look at Candace Bushnell s
book Sex and the City (1996) and relate the book s ideas about woman and woman s sexuality to
postfeminism and third wave feminism ideas. I will also look at cyber feminism in relation to another
chick lit Helen Fielding s book Bridget Jones s Diary (1996).
In my opinion, popular fiction reflects almost everything what happens in the contemporary ... Show

To my mind, Bushnell s book is and definitely were empowering for women. It encourages women to
be in charge of their own lives. It has been argued that for great number of women Bushnell s heroines
are a role model how to live their lives, how to treat themselves and also men.
Firstly, one of the ideas that is in Sex and the City and comes from third wave feminism is that
feminists can wear lip stick, high heals, and low cut necklines and feel like women, but not sexual
objects. Pinkfloor (2005: p.20) emphasises: It s possible to have a push up bra and a brain at the same
time. To my mind, it is an important point to make, because one can still be a feminist and at the same
time be comfortable with their sexuality. What is more, it is an outstanding theme throughout the
Bushnell s book also. Bushnell s heroines are confident women in all spheres of their lives, and about
their sexuality as much about work or relationships. They can go to the sex club for new experiences
(Sex and the City: p.10 16) or dance topless on the bar (Sex and the City: p.88 95). At the same time
they have successful and respectable careers a columnist, English journalist, movie producer, cable
executive, banker and there are mentioned many more. The book also carries a strong message of
female competition, which is characteristic of postfeminism.

The Causes Of The Border Patrol
This scenario is playing out on America s borders every day. The organization that manages the
Border Patrol, Customs and Border Protection, has become the largest federal law enforcement agency
in the nation, and with that distinction comes some scrutiny. Two articles were written, the first by The
New York Times, the other by the Associated Press, that highlighted some disturbing trends within the
agency. The number of Border Patrol agents more than doubled between 2004 and 2011, when they
grew to over 20,000 employees, and that number continued to rise, reaching over 21,000 today.
Since...September 11, 2001, the focus of the Border Patrol has changed to detection, apprehension
and/or deterrence of terrorists or terrorist weapons, but as the agency uses that motto to grow its, it has
become increasingly clear that they are more concerned with keeping certain people out than keeping
the border safe. Increase in suicides among Border Patrol agents causes alarm, by the Associated Press
Paul J. Weber addresses the disturbing trend of suicides among Border Patrol agents. Between
February 2008 and August 2010, 15 Border Patrol agents had taken their own lives. There had not
been a single suicide in the agency for four years prior to that point. To further illustrate the
significance of that trend: the national rate of suicide at the time was 12 for every 100,000 people. The
Border Patrol s rate was at 30 per 100,000. So why the sudden spike? Some officials and family

The Tale Of Genji Lady Murasaki Shikibu
My knowledge of the history of Asia mostly comprises of Japanese history and its culture. My
knowledge is mostly from modern Japan, a little from the Heian Period, the Edo Period and also the
Azuchi Momoyama Period. I found out some of the information from past research papers I wrote for
my history classes in high school, friends, family members, and anime. Japan s culture developed in a
rapid pace compared some other parts of the world in the Heian era. An example would be The Tale of
Genji by Lady Murasaki Shikibu. Her novel gained popularity during this period. Jumping through
time from there, in the Azuchi Momoyama period, a great Japanese daimyo by the name of Oda
Nobunaga wanted to unite Japan under one sword. One of the cool events

Lactose Intolerance In Children Research Paper
Lactose Intolerance in children Lactose intolerance is often confused with milk allergy in infants and
children. The two disease may have a lot of commonly shared symptoms, they are two entirely
different problems caused due to indigestion or weak immune system respectively. One of the major
symptoms of lactose intolerance is large discomfort within 30 minutes to 2 hours after intake of
lactose rich products. Since most of the milk products contain lactose, people often mistake it with
milk allergy and hence do not take necessary actions. Lactose intolerance can be seen in pre mature
new born, infants and even teenage children. It is often seen as a lifelong disease but is also sometimes
a temporary state. One of the major roles is played by proper diet in curing this problem. Some of the
major symptoms observed are abdominal pain, cramps, gas, diarrhea and regular discomfort. The
intensity of symptoms may differ from person to person depending on a lot of factors. It is ... Show

Usually, lactose intolerance is detected by a test know as Hydrogen Breath Test. A simple test will
help you identify the problem and hence prepare you to further plan the right diet for your child. Often
some of the very important sources of calcium and vitamin are lost due to diet modification and
reduction of milk products. As an alternative for this, a lot of doctors will advice lactose free cow s
milk, rice milk, soy milk or almond milk in order to maintain the right balance of calcium in the body.
In extreme cases of lactose intolerance, calcium and vitamin D supplements are prescribed for the
child. You can also balance the deficiency by increasing the supply of green vegetables like broccoli,
Brussels sprouts etc. Cheddar and cottage cheese can also be included in the diet. Tofu and other
protein rich products can also be a good source of all the nutrients that your child

International Accounting Standards Board s Preferred...
Introduction
International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC, 2003) define an asset as a resource controlled
by the entity as a result of past events and from which future economic benefits are expected to flow
to the entity. In a business model assets act as inputs, either directly (plant, machinery, inventory) or
indirectly (goodwill, patents, investment property) to provide products and services to the customer.
As assets are expected to generate future benefits, the income generated by these assets is reported
under the Income Statement while their value is reported in the Balance Sheet to deduce the value of
the said business.

an exit price) (IFRS13). Fair value is the market value of a firm s assets and ignores any special
benefits of the assets to the business resulting from competencies such as man management skills as
well as any transaction costs (Hitz, 2007). Therefore a fair value measurement is market based rather
than entity specific and it represents unbiased measurements that are consistent from period to period
and across entities (Penman, S. H., 2007). This helps to reinforce consistency and comparability
across various reporting entities. Fair Value measurements also have the property of objectivity as it is
non entity specific and reflects the market s valuation as compared to entity specific measurements
which are subject to managerial judgments (Whittington, 2010).
Entity specific measurements account for intangibles such as business competencies and managerial
know how, which gets reflected in the financial statements irrespective of whether they have been
demonstrated or not. Using fair value limits today s profit recognition to amounts market participants
would assess, and leaves to the future the recognition of profit associated with management skill and
synergies (Barth, 2010).
Hence we can conclude that market valuations incorporate market expectations regarding future cash
flows in an efficient and unbiased manner (Hitz, 2007). It can also be argued that fair value

The Pine Is The Oldest Living Organism On The Planet
Growing in only six states the bristlecone pine is the oldest living organism on the planet. At 4,765
years old the Methuselah is the oldest documented living bristlecone there is, being almost 1,000 years
older than its counterparts of the species. The age of this tree can be determined by the amount of
rings that are found when the inner truck is exposed. There is where the truth of the extraordinary tree
and its undeniable ability to outlive all other organisms lies. The bristlecone having the ability to
outlive all other organisms can be questioned but instead of asking how it lives so long it should be
questioned on the reasons for its lengthy pace to die.
The bristlecone pine is known to grow in the White Mountains of eastern California. In that area
conditions are not most desirable and ideal for plants to grow, however the bristlecone has managed to
withstand the harsh conditions and surpass the hands of time. The White Mountains are an area that
experiences short summers with a season for growing only being measured at several weeks. These
mountains also adhere to strong dry winds that travel against rocky souls. These type of conditions
cause any rain water that may fall to either drain off to fast for the plant to absorb or the water to just
evaporate (Matthews, M). With such harsh conditions it is amazing that the bristlecone is still standing
as the oldest living organism, unless it is because of these harsh conditions that the tree has such
longevity.

The Four Ps Of Marketing
Question # 1: Four Ps of Marketing
a. List and explain the Four Ps of marketing (Short explanations in your own words.)
Price What a consumer is willing to give up to obtain your product. If a supplier sets a price higher
than what a consumer is willing to pay, then the consumer is unlikely to complete the transaction.
Product The good or service a supplier provides for a consumer.
Promotion How a company communicates their product or service to the public and specifically to
their desired customer. Without effective promotion and advertising, customers are unlikely to hear
about and understand what s being sold.
Place How and where a product is presented to a consumer. It involved the location and placement of
the product.

Place relates to Major League Soccer in terms of location of each teams stadium. This is key in all
sports, teams must locate themselves in places where they will be able to attract fans to attend their
matches at high rates. Teams like Atlanta United F.C. and the Seattle Sounders have placed themselves
in prime locations to succeed. They both have done a great job with perfecting where they play to help
increase attendance to their games. While the MLS average attendance per match is a mere 21,823,
Seattle have averaged 42,892 and Atlanta have averaged 46,721 per match. These two teams aren t
even in first place in their conference, but they were able to place themselves in locations that are
effective for them to record these much higher averages of attendance.
c. Rank the four in order of importance to your product. Explain your rankings.
Promotion Promotion is going to be the most important aspect of our product since there is currently
not enough marketing of MLS. You can find an advertisement for the NFL on almost any channel but
you will rarely see a commercial or promotion for major league soccer.
Product The MLS has recently been lacking competition. There tends to be a handful of teams that
compete for the top spots and then the rest of the league, who battle for the bottom ranks. These top
teams garner the most attention and fan base while the other teams struggle to keep fans interested.
Place We ranked place as the third most important factor

Virginia Woolf Gender Roles
Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own focuses on the women s roles in fiction throughout a
patriarchal society. The essay is constructed as a narrative in the mind of Mary Benton at Oxbridge
College where she reinvents history by creating women in literature where there are not any. The
character of Judith Shakespeare, sister of William Shakespeare is made. Judith is a representation of
how women have been over looked and unappreciated for their minds since the beginning of history.
Judith is just as smart, passionate, and creative as her brother William. She is filled with the same
spark, wit, and tenacity; however, her dreams and love of writing, plays, and theater are deemed
insignificant and unimportant because she is a woman and women are supposed to cook, clean, and
take care of children. Their role is not to be educated, sophisticated, and revered for their intellectual
talents. According to Woolf, a woman must have money, access to publication, and a room of her own
in order to write. Throughout history, Woolf s theory is proven to be true; in most cases, women writer

Advantages Of Apparel Industry
Theory During 1980s, most global firms focused on quality management in product design and
internal process improvement in order to achieve competitive advantage. Today, the spotlight shines
on transferring value to customers instead (Mentzer Williams 2001). Therefore, logistics has turned to
be the primary marketing instrument for increasing and sustaining competitive excellence. While
comparing to the past, logistics was only taken as a function regarding the higher productivity
objective (Hutt Speh 2011). According to the study of Mentzer Williams (2001), the approach to have

The structure starts with fiber producers who can be both agricultural and chemical suppliers. Natural
fibers such as wool and cotton can be provided by various types of firms, but plenty of low cost
suppliers from Asia are the important competitors. Textile mills take the next responsibility, their
duties are spinning fiber into yarn, knitting and weaving operations and mostly they are fragmented to
SMEs (Small and medium sized enterprises). After being transformed by textile mills, the fabrics are
distributed to apparel manufacturers in order to produce the finished products and they are sold either
directly or through wholesalers, to a variety of retail stores (Kumar 2005). For the complex supply

Sociological Theories On Development
1.
As social workers, we aim to learn the basics of competent and ethical practice with children, young
people and families from diverse backgrounds. To do this, we must have an
Understanding of the changes which occur in children and young people as they mature. Many
different theories exist to assist in explaining the physical, social, cognitive and emotional changes
that take place in children and young people as they grow. Such theories include psychoanalysis,
cognitive behavioural theories, developmental theories and Humanism.
A developmental psychologist named Erik Erikson proposed an eight stage theory on development,
which stated that humans progress through eight psychosocial conflicts in order to develop completely
(David, 2014). Jean Piaget also proposed a stage theory on development. Piaget suggested that
development proceeds through cognitive development in four stages. Both theories from these
psychologists have suggested that development occurs throughout certain stages, and is universal
(McLeod, 2014). Universal meaning that humans learn to do the same or develop in the same way, no
matter what culture they come from, or upbringing they have (E.g. children learning to crawl, stand
and walk the same) (McLeod, 2014).
Attachment theory is a commonly known theory used to explain changes among children. Child and
family psychiatrist, John Bowlby, has a deep rooted belief in the idea that the quality of a child s early
parenting and family life was key to

Comparing Storm On The Island And The Prelude
Introduction:
Both Seamus Heaney and William Wordsworth convey the power of nature through their poems Storm
on the Island and Extract from, The Prelude . A key point of comparison between these two poems is
that they both present nature as wielding power over man... Nature is presented as powerful or even
more powerful than man itself:
Heaney presents nature to be more powerful than the speaker and the rest of the island s residents.
This is done through Heaney s use of military language. This choice of semantic field gives us the
sense that man and nature are at opposition with one another and by the harsh military verbs it seems
safe to assume that the weather is the dominant force of the two. Arguably, the use of an oxymoron
reaffirms this struggle. To us, the oxymoron does not make sense but it is possible that the irregularity
is intended to reflect the unfair battle that the islanders face. This may show us that the people on the
island have made sense of what goes on even though we struggle to. Again, this demonstrates the
power of nature by making the weather appear to be unable to be matched by man. Nature is presented
as powerful or even more powerful than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wordsworth uses simple language in complex sentences to show how he is so in awe of nature that he
struggles to find the words to justify what he is seeing. This is most true following the sighting of the

language therefore being presented as powerful for doing so. Perhaps, the metaphorical meaning of
the poem that as humans there are forces greater than us that many, in our proud, self centred state of
mind, do not realise is being revealed to Wordsworth and causing not only a change in language but in
his views of life. This powerful meaning most certainly attributes power to nature. There is a sense of

Size, Coat and Grooming
When it comes to taking care of your canine, you cannot undermine their furriness. Golden Retrievers
have a dense, water repellent outer coat with a thicker under coat. Their coats come in all shades of
golden, ranging from light to dark. While some golden retrievers have are wavy coats, some have
incredibly straight coats.
Grooming
These puppies shed moderately during the winter but quite heavily during the fall and spring. If you
wish to adopt a Golden Retriever, you will just have to get accustomed to a certain amount of dog hair
around your house and on your clothes. Rest assured, these furry pals are worth the trouble with their
friendly and calm demeanor. Because of their thick coats, this breed requires considerable grooming.
Brush your pet s fur every day to prevent tangling. If you are unable to brush them regularly, find a
way to do it at least once a week.
Bathing
As far as bathing its concerned, wash your pet at least once a month or more often to help them look

1. Why is RAID 1 not a substitute for a backup?
RAID 1 will perform the operations to write as well as read the same data, which is called is called as

RAID 1 is preferred for mirroring and duplexing. It has a high level of reliability and availability. It
has disk in a mirrored array which has an identical image of user data. It prefers array with parallel

10. We can take the backup data, before that we need to verify the new disks are installed properly in
the system.
5. Discuss the impact of random and sequential I/Os in different RAID configurations
The sequential large I/O and random input and output reads and write are needed for an application. It
offers a good I/O response for random as it reads and poor for the small random writes. For random
writes, its good and are slow for parity overhead
Sequential I/Os offer good RAID reads and writes and also preferred even for large writes. For the
database and standard files stored on the servers, the random I/O is preferred with an equal disk time
span servicing of all of the I/O requests. For a single application, the RAID 0 with more disks are
preferred. For the multiple applications, files might be performed either on RAID 1 or RAID 10.
Finally, RAID 5 might receive some of the updates for workloads.
Using the sequential I/O we can optimize the performance of our configuration. For writing the
intensive fields its better to avoid either RAID 5 or RAID 6 rather than that we can use RAID 1 or 10.

A Very Brief Summary Of Andrej s Cages
After Andrej tells Tomas, Wilma and his travelling storys and how they got to the zoo, the chamois
replies rudely, mentioning how they should stop complaining because they are free, You aren t in a

replies by saying that he is not free because even though he isn t in a cage he doesn t feel free or safe.
Andrej was unrestrained before the invading army came as he was part of the Rom, he could really go
and travel anywhere he would like with his famiy or even on his own. After the war began he was not

World War I Gained Its Label
World War I was, simply put, a war like no other. It was the first total war the world had experienced
and it revolutionized our idea of war and what it entailed. World War I eventually coined the nickname
the war to end all wars ; which we now find to be ironic because there have been plenty of wars since.
At the time, however, it was believed that society would be rebirthed by the war and it would be
changed to a more perfect form. There would be no sense in war anymore because humanity would
finally be ideal. Yet when we examine the casualties and destruction post war, they add up to a horrific
amount. During this era, it seemed nearly impossible for war to continue, in consideration to the
welfare of humanity. Still though, it only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes, terrible things have to happen so necessary changes can take place. In contrast to
President Wilson s more rational ideals, Winston Churchill, an allied leader, argued this. He claimed
that, We are not meant to find peace in this world, and that war often brought progress and necessary
revolutions for the betterment of society. Some believed it would erase the class systems and return
the mannerly values of society. Others believed it would overthrow the oppressing sense of
dictatorship and democracy would prevail. Colonials believed that maybe the Europeans would finally
grant them independence.
Although war brings death and destruction, the world could be worse without it. Sometimes there s a
lot to lose but even more to gain. Even Emile Zola, a person notorious for being a leftist, found that, it
is only the warlike nations that have prospered. A nation dies as soon as it disarms. War is the school
of discipline, sacrifice, and courage. The Great War could not be the war to end all wars because
history repeats itself. Just as World War I was seemingly bound to happen, so is every other war. An
event leads to another event, which will eventually lead to war. Life seems to be a never ending cycle
of major historical events and their repercussions. Nothing would ever end war because the world
doesn t know how to function without it.
World War I presented a war that was more industrial than those that had preceded it. It

What Is The Difference Between Recussants And Puritans
Queen Elizabeth I needed a religious settlement after the changes that were made by her predecessors.
This came in 1559 and is called the Religious Settlement. However, just how much it actually settled
religious terms, is still a question asked today. Both Puritans and the Recussants weren t happy with
this settlement. This act was made of two acts the act of supremacy and the act of uniformity. The act
of supremacy gave Elizabeth complete control of the Church of England. In the reign of her brother
and father, the monarch had been Head of the Church but this was changed to Supreme governor of
the Church of England. The change was to please Catholics or because she was a woman and was
thought of as inferior. The act of uniformity was

project. Almost all girls that I have interacted during the course of this study were a part of the EDP.
Methodology
I initially wished to conduct the study on the basis of informal interactions of interviews. Prior
experience had taught me that it is rare that participants of the study are extremely comfortable
answering a lengthy questionnaire. Therefore I wanted to do away with the questionnaire. But senior
employees of Akshara made me realise that it might not be such a bad idea to get a basic
understanding of the issue through a questionnaire. Therefore I kept the questionnaire as the last thing
as part of the methodology. I had undertaken informal interactions then had gone into full fledged
interviews and then administered a questionnaire.
It was however, the informal interactions that taught me the most. I was glad that I could meet both
sections. There are several girls that I interacted with but many of them have not filled out the
questionnaire. Of the 30 40 girls that I did meet only 22 of them have filled out a questionnaire. Of
these 6 of them are from female headed households. Almost 95% of the gilrs in teracted

Reflection Paper On Fall Dance
I decided to watch the fall dance concert, Reflections, at IVC for this critique. The performances were
held in the theater which to my surprise, is larger than I expected. I was also delighted to see the use of
multiple kinds of lights to imbue a specific meaning. All the performances were great but the ones I
felt the most connection to after watching are the ones I have decided to write on. The first piece that
had a lasting impact on me is titled Unwavering struggle and is choreographed by Jennifer La Curan.
This piece is set to six different songs some of which are Oh, Dear What Can the Matter Be by
Elizabeth Knight, You Don t Own Me by Lesley Gore, and I Can t Keep Quiet by The Faithful Choir.
It includes seven dancers, all of which are girls. The second piece that stayed with me is the piece
titled Polar Variant also choreographed by Jennifer La Curan and other faculty dancers. There were a
mix of four guys and seven girls all of which were split in two different groups.
The first dance started with girls who were dressed in brown suits walking in an upright manner.
There were no interactions made and it is clear that they were depicting working men. They begin to
start walking in a circle center stage. One girl in a bright dress then enters stage while the men
continue to walk around in a circle. They pay her little attention and the lyrics to the song Oh Dear
What Can the Matter Be almost seem to mock the situation. There is an obvious problem that has only

Gender in the Contemporary World
In The Gendered Society, the writer Michael Kimmel examine an wealth of pragmatic study and

Divergence is the upshot of gender variation, not its origin . The sociological characteristic of his
debate is footed on the inspiration that the communal establishments of our world like place of work,
family, politics and school are also gender oriented institutions. Kimmel further argues that these
institutions convey a reason, logic, a self motivated notion that replicates gender associations linking
men and women moreover the gender classification of authority and hierarchy . As Kimmel observes
it, an assessment of gender ought to try hard to elucidate not only alleged variance linking women and
men however male supremacy (Kimmel).
While explaining Gender , Kimmel argues some of the opinions and viewpoints regarding gender that
have come out from the restraints of biology, psychology, anthropology and sociology. Kimmel
discards the designs that gender distinctions are footed exclusively on biological legacy, utilizing cross
cultural researches to expose the variety in societal values concerning the suitable parts and
responsibilities of men and women and in their respective attitude across civilizations. Kimmel reveals
that American model of gender associations is not widespread. The sections on sociological and

The Juggler Poem
The poem The juggler describes how the tricks the juggler acts out for the crowd amaze and intrigue
them. In the poem The Juggler by Richard Wilbur, the author uses imagery, figurative language and
tone to describe the juggler as someone who brings happiness and fun to others.
The use of imagery, figurative language, and tone are used to describe the juggler and reveal the
speaker s own views about the world.
In the poem the author uses imagery to describe the juggler s appearance and the tricks he is
accomplishing in his show. Richard says, it takes a sky blue juggler with five red balls...to shake our

this the audience is able to get an insight into the life of the speaker; we are able to see that not a lot of

reader on of the tricks the juggler is doing. He says, Oh, on his toe the table is turning, the broom s
Balancing up on his nose, and the plate whirls. On the tip of the broom! (lines 9 21). We can see the

Periodontitis Essay
Periodontitis is defined as an inflammatory disease of the supporting tissues of the teeth caused by
specific microorganisms or groups of specific microorganisms, resulting in progressive destruction of
the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone with pocket formation, recession or both. 1 Periodontal
diseaseisan ubiquitous infection in humans displaying the classic hallmarks of the inflammatory
response. Late sequelaeof periodontal diseases are the loss of alveolar bone,,mobile teeth leading to a
demolished periodontium. Therefore, earlier detection and treatment leads to improved outcomes for
patients.2
The main transgressors in Periodontal diseases are gram negative bacteria that elicit a host response,
which cause an aftermath of osseous and soft tissue destruction. The host response plays the role of a
second fiddle through mediators like proteinases, cytokines and prostaglandins causing severe tissue
loss.2 Cytokines are the linchpins in mediating numerous biological activities including proliferation,

The Judicial Selection And Appointment For Securing An...
Discuss the importance of the judicial selection and appointment in securing an independent judiciary.
(50 marks) Judicial independence is the concept that the judiciary needs to be kept away from the
other branches of government. That is, courts should not be subject to improper influence from the
other branches of government. Judicial independence is very important in a democracy as the public
need to have confidence that their cases will be decided fairly and in accordance with the law. Judicial
selection and appointment is important in securing an independent judiciary as seen by the
politicisation of the judiciary. In the UK and US the system of electing Justices is highly politicised. In
the US it is ultimately up to the President to choose a Justice who fits his political ideology and
philosophy. There is a clear divide between Justices nominated by Republican Presidents (Scalia,
Thomas, Roberts, and Alito) and those nominated by Democrats President (Ginsburg, Breyer,
Sotomayor, and Kagan). Presidents seek to nominate Justices who share similar political views.
Republicans tend to nominate strict constructionists who favour a more narrow reading of the
Constitution and Democrats tend to appoint loose constructionists who believe in a broad
interpretation of the Constitution. Elena Kagen received only a single Republican vote and Sonia
Sotomayor did not receive any. It is unlikely that the Republicans considered them to be
underqualified, and more likely that they

Challenges Children Face that Need to Be Addressed
Children in our communities are exposed to many challenges that need to be addressed by teachers
and adults in order to keep a healthy environment that promotes their development. Parents need to be
aware of children s different temperaments to make socialization easier and to improve friendships
and understanding. Teachers need to be aware of the developmental practices to ensure the physical,
cognitive, emotional, and social development of children. Also, they need to be aware of the risk
factors that affect their school performance and their life to help them overcome their problems. The
two children with a very different temperament that I am going to describe are Maria and Jose. After
observing how they behave and act in different situations, I was able to know each of their
temperaments. For example, Maria fears strangers, gets frustrated very easily and most of the time is
fussy and moody. According to Roberta M. Berns, Maria s temperament is categorized as difficult
(Berns, 2013, p. 11). Socialization is rough at home and at school for this child. Therefore, the kind of
classroom and teaching style that could foster goodness of fit will be an environment with a lot of
space for her to do many activities that require energy and that help her with her frustration. It is
important to allow her to make some choices. As an educator, it is important for me to remember to
redirect her from one place to another and communicate with her so she knows what to

Lab Report Bacteria
Introduction:
Bacteria are among the most abundant of all organisms on earth. Some species of bacteria is always
present in every different environment the plant has to offer. For this to be possible, bacteria are all
very different from one another. This lab aimed to identify a certain colony of bacteria, using a variety
of tests at the disposal of scientists. The simplest method of narrowing down possibilities involves the
use of a compound microscope to observe the general shape of the cells. The shapes of the bacteria
can be Bacilli, Cocci, or Spirochete. This helps to further narrow the possibilities of what the bacterial
species is.
Bacteria can be further split into two different groups: Gram positive and Gram negative. A method
known as Gram staining, which detects peptidoglycan, will stain a cell purple/blue in the presence of
it and pink/red if the absence of it. This test also determines thickness of the cell wall, since a thick
cell wall is characteristic of an abundance of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Catalase tests involves exposing the colony of interest to hydrogen peroxide to check for the
presence of the enzyme Catalase. If the bacteria contain the enzyme, exposure to hydrogen peroxide
will trigger the breakdown of it by Catalase as a defense mechanism against the harmful substance.
Catalase test positive genera include Bacillus, Micrococcaceae, and Staphylococcus, while
Clostridium and Streptococcaceae test negative (Holbrook and Leicht, 2015). The second test
administered to gram positive bacteria is the Mannitol Salt Agar (MSA) test. This test involves
observing growth of the bacteria on the MSA medium, which contains very high amounts of sodium
chloride. The only strain capable of growth is Staphylococcus, which causes the medium to change in
color from red to yellow, indicating fermentation of the

Anne Bradstreet Tone
It is not a secret that women in the seventeenth century were oppressed. Puritan society deemed
women to be useful mainly within the household. It was very uncommon for women to be respected
as authors or even be educated enough to do so. Anne Bradstreet s The Prologue was a controversial
work for a woman in Puritan society, as it challenged men to share the literary world with women.
Through heavy sarcasm and self deprecation, Bradstreet defends women writers from the criticism of
men. The sarcastic tone of the poem starts right at the first stanza. The speaker begins the poem by
stating that she will not be writing about wars or kings. She finds that poets and historians, or rather
men, are better equipped to handle such topics than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the self deprecating tone she has been carrying is not yet put to rest. She writes, Men can do
best, and Women know it well, which makes the poem a bit less scandalous, but to some may seem to
be thickly laced with sarcasm (37). She tells the readers that men were, by nature, given the tools to
succeed rather than women, yet still manages to demand that men acknowledge that women are
capable writers as well with Yet grant some small acknowledgement of ours (42). The concluding
stanza also attempts to earn women the right to play the same game as men, while also trying not to
make the men feel threatened. Bradstreet writes that the men can keep the bays of a great poet, her
speaker would rather have a wreath made out of typical cooking spices. This relates back to the
domestic duties women were expected to perform in Puritan society. She tries to make her male
readers more accepting with the final two line of the poem: This mean and unrefined ore of mine/Will
make your glist ring gold but more to shine (47 8). Bradstreet argues that if women were given the
same respect in terms of writing as men, it wouldn t take from the male writers. In fact, it would make
the men seem even more talented than they already are when compared to women

The Go Between By Ali Smith Summary
The Go Between is a short story, written by Ali Smith in 2009. This short story is based on the United
Nations adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Ali Smith finds inspiration in an
article about the right to freedom of movement, which also is the theme and case in this short story.
Many people try to travel from Africa to the south of Europe, due to poverty, war or hunger. This short
story deals with the fact that everyone has their human rights, and they have the freedom of

These short sentences give the reader a view into most African people s life. Their life is often boring

was rejected from the army because he has a heart condition. Jack comes up with a bright idea to steal
Irving s identity and apply to the army in Irving s name. His plan works, and he is enlisted in the air
force. Jack is a very brave young man, and he is able to stand up for what he believes in. Throughout
the novel, Jack is faced with danger. In all of these situations, Jack perseveres and survives. Whenever
Jack wanted to, he could have told a superior about his real age and got sent back to the states. Jack is
not only brave he is also very mature. His experience in the war has changed him from a boy to a man.
An example from the text is when Jack Rabb tells us To most boys, war is a game. A game where

Analysis Of Close Encounters Of The Third Kind
The film Close Encounters of the Third Kind drew upon the alien and UFO craze that was going on in
the 1970s. The film was written and directed by Steven Spielberg and released in the year 1977. This
film doesn t have any superstar actors or actresses but interestingly enough, Meryl Streep auditioned
but was not given a role in the film. Many things about this film are quite interesting, including the
movie being filmed in an unused airplane hangar and the aliens being played by schoolgirls. The
behind the scenes elements would make you want to believe that this movie would end up being a
disappointment, but this assumption couldn t be more wrong. The storyline of Close Encounters of the
Third Kind follows the events of a man that has an encounter with extraterrestrials. The main
character, Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss), witnesses a UFO and is left with a burn on his skin and the
image of a Devil s Tower engraved in his memory. Roy builds a model of the mountain in his home
and becomes obsessed with UFOs and this eventually leads his wife to take their children and leave. A
French scientist, Claude Lacombe, and an American interpreter, David Laughlin, are sent to India to
investigate UFO activity where it is said they were communicating with a five tone musical phrase.
The scientists broadcast this phrase into space and are given a response in the form of coordinates, and
these coordinates just so happen to be the location of Devil s Tower in Wyoming. The military clears

The Market For The Textile Industry Essay
Introduction
Aussie textiles are a medium sized organization which produces quality garments located at
Queensland. As there was a huge competition for imported goods at a cheaper price, the organization
had decided to establish a manufacturing plant and import goods from one of the three countries
namely Bangladesh, Indonesia and Vietnam. This report will be focusing on how Vietnam could be a
potential country for setting up an entirely new manufacturing plant to produce quality textiles and
export back to Queensland. Further adding on to the report, it attempts to analyze the pros and cons,
followed by the industry overview and analysis. In the next paragraphs, the market for the textile
industry will be analyzed using the industry data. In addition to this, tools such as porter five forces
model will be used to analyzing the potential as a host market for manufacturing. And finally the
recommendation declaring if the market in Vietnam is feasible for manufacturing or not.
Industry Overview
Over the course of little more than a decade, Vietnam has become a significant exporter of garments to
the EU and Japan, and now to the Australia too. Textiles are a vital component of Vietnam, presently
accounting for nearly half of the country s manufactured exports. As clothing is some of the most
synchronized operated sectors in the world, it accounted for 16.5% of the total earnings in the year
2002(Nadvi et al. 2004). The apparel industry in Vietnam has been incorporated into

Ssc100 Research Success Assignment
Leon s furniture is ranked number two hundred and ten on the globe and mail s report on
business top 1000, earning a profit of $56,666. The focus of this report will be on the financial
position of Leon s furniture. For any business, the financial position of the company will be
viewed by both internal and external users and stakeholders because it shows how well the
business is doing financially. The net income of the company will affect the financial position of
the business because based on the profit or loss incurred, it will define if the business is
successful or not. Moreover, shareholders will be interested in the financial statements since it
determines the earnings per share.
The first article is Leon s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The asset
will decrease (if they borough money from banks, it will increase their liabilities and they must
pay for the interest) and also effect the asset liability ratio, making the company owe more than
they own. In addition, the executive chairman of The Brick is anticipated to join Leon s board of
directors (Knell). Like any other new coworkers that come to the company, they might encounter
arguments or disagreements. However, if both companies work together in a positive manner,
they may earn more net income combined. Hence, this will turn the negative into a positive
impact for both companies. Leon s corporate and franchise stores had combined sales of
C$879.6 million and The Brick had corporate and franchise sales of C1.54 billion (Knell). This
shows that the sales volume of The Brick is actually greater than its new owner, Leon s. This can
impact Leon s in a positive way because the revenue from The Brick will be added onto their
own revenue since they are now a combined company. The most important thing to take into
consideration is that buying out The Brick, Leon s will have one less competitor in the furniture
industry. All of the above will lead to increase in total revenue and net income for Leon s
furniture.
Since I am currently studying Accounting and Finance at Seneca College, I believe that
my future profession in accounting can help Leon s keep track of their transactions and

Unbroken Chapter Summaries
Controversies of prisoners of war
The book Unbroken was a seemingly impossible tale of triumph and survival of an Olympic runner
and WWII veteran named Louis Zamperini. He constantly had to overcome adversity in his early
years, for he was an immigrant from Italy and a trouble maker before his brother Pete steered him into
running track. This immediately turned him around as he did well enough to in running to break all
sorts if local records, which were accomplished while his competitors were trying to sabotage his runs.
This qualified him for the 1936 Olympic in Berlin, where he met Hitler. He still had running
aspirations but felt he had no choice other than fighting in the world due to the fact that the 1940
Olympics were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone who experienced being a Prisoner of War were followed by physical, psychological and
spiritual affects, and also affects that made them feel less than a person. Louie s journey was no
different. The physical affects were terrible, Louie had little food and water so he lost an extreme
amount of weight. This was compounded with beating with first and kicks. The prison guards didn t
care, they made the POW s work long, free labor hours. There were no medicines to treat any sick or
injured so, if you were hurt you would most likely end up dead. All this horrible treatment truly
affected Louie psychological as well. During the imprisonment he managed to stay strong mentally by
not going crazy enough to kill himself and also by staying sane enough to be strategically incompliant
in the interrogation rooms to let the interrogators feel satisfied while not relinquishing U.S. security.
This psychological strength didn t last long after Louie got out of the prison camps though, for he had
constant reminding of The Bird and the evils that happened to him by daydreams and nightmares. This
is commonly known as post traumatic stress disorder. After he found out bird was still alive, Louie
tried to forget and put the past behind him but the feeling of anxiety was just too great. Louie called
for a meeting with the Bird to no avail. Although there were almost overwhelming negative effects,
there were very

Major Depression Essay Depression and other mood disorders tend to proliferate as a result of multiple, complex, biological, psychological and social factors, including war and other violent conflicts, natural disasters, poverty and limited access to resources. An amalgamation of genetic and environmental factors unite to unchain depression (Sullivan et al., 2000; Wong and Licinio, 2001; Lesch, 2004; Hamet and Tremblay, 2005; Ebmeier et al., 2006). Several vulnerability genes of large or little effect, in relations with each other and in combination with environmental factors, generate susceptibility to the disorder. Traditional genetic linkage studies and candidate gene methods have been used with reasonably limited achievement in major depression. Genetic models of etiology commonly believe a large number of genes with comparatively little contributions to liability. Progresses in high genotyping and microarray method have made it more possible to discover genes with little effect sizes (Hong and Tsai, 2003). It is of particular clinical concerns those studies which are based on pathophysiological ideas (candidate genes) and in particular those that observe the possibility of patients to respond to particular treatments. Serotonin (5 HT) systems is involved in Genetic susceptibility because tryptophan reduction in healthy individuals is observed to stimulate depressive symptoms only if they have affected relatives (Benkelfat et al., 1994).Polymorphism in the serotonin transporter (5 HTT) gene are of more particular concern in depression. • 3. Theme of Social Hierarchy in William Shakespeare s Henry... Theme of Social Hierarchy in William Shakespeare s Henry V, Twelfth Night and Macbeth Henry V, Twelfth Night, and Macbeth cover the whole field of Shakespearean genres, but it is amazing how Shakespeare displays a theme and carries it through in any kind of play he wants to. Historic, comic, and tragic plays are about as different as you can get, yet when we take a closer look we see many similarities among them, especially in the area of social hierarchy. In all three of these plays, Shakespeare uses a similar theme, which he conveys and proves through his characters. Twelfth Night s Malvolio, and Macbeth s Macbeth, Henry V s Henry all hold social status, and they spread the social scale, one a servant, one a nobleman, and one a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Malvolio is a servant, desiring and seeking to climb the social ladder by marrying his master, a wealthy woman in society. Malvolio is stepping far beyond his bounds as a servant, and he doesn t see that he is out of line. To marry up a class level was unheard of, but Malvolio doesn t even seem to think about this. He is set on winning Olivia s love from the moment he thinks about the things he can get from it. He isn t really punished for his committal of a social taboo, but he is demeaned and taken back down to a servant s level through the joke that Toby, Maria, and Feste play on him. Shakespeare doesn t say that marrying up is wrong, because the marriage of Maria and Toby is given a positive light. Shakespeare does make it very clear that it is not proper for a servant, or anyone for that matter, to attempt to climb the social lattice, especially through marriage. In Macbeth, Macbeth is a Thane, a much higher social status than a slave. This is a position of nobility, and Macbeth is content with it. His and Banquo s meeting with the Weird Sisters and the subsequent fulfillment of part of the witches prophecies about Macbeth is what begins to discontent Macbeth. Macbeth says, If chance may have me King, why, chance may crown me (Macbeth I.iii.158), but it is shortly after this that Macbeth is easily drawn in by his wife s enticement with power and ... • 4. How Popular Fiction Reflects Debates About Gender and... For the last few decades it is argued to what extent popular fiction reflects such things as social changes in our society and topical debates. In this paper I will discuss to what extent popular fiction reflects debates about gender and sexuality. Moreover, I will look at the difference between postfeminism and third wave feminism, afterwards I will more closely look at Candace Bushnell s book Sex and the City (1996) and relate the book s ideas about woman and woman s sexuality to postfeminism and third wave feminism ideas. I will also look at cyber feminism in relation to another chick lit Helen Fielding s book Bridget Jones s Diary (1996). In my opinion, popular fiction reflects almost everything what happens in the contemporary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To my mind, Bushnell s book is and definitely were empowering for women. It encourages women to be in charge of their own lives. It has been argued that for great number of women Bushnell s heroines are a role model how to live their lives, how to treat themselves and also men. Firstly, one of the ideas that is in Sex and the City and comes from third wave feminism is that feminists can wear lip stick, high heals, and low cut necklines and feel like women, but not sexual objects. Pinkfloor (2005: p.20) emphasises: It s possible to have a push up bra and a brain at the same time. To my mind, it is an important point to make, because one can still be a feminist and at the same time be comfortable with their sexuality. What is more, it is an outstanding theme throughout the Bushnell s book also. Bushnell s heroines are confident women in all spheres of their lives, and about their sexuality as much about work or relationships. They can go to the sex club for new experiences (Sex and the City: p.10 16) or dance topless on the bar (Sex and the City: p.88 95). • 5. The Causes Of The Border Patrol This scenario is playing out on America s borders every day. The organization that manages the Border Patrol, Customs and Border Protection, has become the largest federal law enforcement agency in the nation, and with that distinction comes some scrutiny. Two articles were written, the first by The New York Times, the other by the Associated Press, that highlighted some disturbing trends within the agency. The number of Border Patrol agents more than doubled between 2004 and 2011, when they grew to over 20,000 employees, and that number continued to rise, reaching over 21,000 today. Since...September 11, 2001, the focus of the Border Patrol has changed to detection, apprehension and/or deterrence of terrorists or terrorist weapons, but as the agency uses that motto to grow its, it has become increasingly clear that they are more concerned with keeping certain people out than keeping the border safe. Increase in suicides among Border Patrol agents causes alarm, by the Associated Press Paul J. Weber addresses the disturbing trend of suicides among Border Patrol agents. Between February 2008 and August 2010, 15 Border Patrol agents had taken their own lives. There had not been a single suicide in the agency for four years prior to that point. To further illustrate the significance of that trend: the national rate of suicide at the time was 12 for every 100,000 people. The Border Patrol s rate was at 30 per 100,000. Fair value is the market value of a firm s assets and ignores any special benefits of the assets to the business resulting from competencies such as man management skills as well as any transaction costs (Hitz, 2007). Therefore a fair value measurement is market based rather than entity specific and it represents unbiased measurements that are consistent from period to period and across entities (Penman, S. H., 2007). This helps to reinforce consistency and comparability across various reporting entities. Fair Value measurements also have the property of objectivity as it is non entity specific and reflects the market s valuation as compared to entity specific measurements which are subject to managerial judgments (Whittington, 2010). Entity specific measurements account for intangibles such as business competencies and managerial know how, which gets reflected in the financial statements irrespective of whether they have been demonstrated or not. Using fair value limits today s profit recognition to amounts market participants would assess, and leaves to the future the recognition of profit associated with management skill and synergies (Barth, 2010). Hence we can conclude that market valuations incorporate market expectations regarding future cash flows in an efficient and unbiased manner (Hitz, 2007). It can also be argued that fair value ... At 4,765 years old the Methuselah is the oldest documented living bristlecone there is, being almost 1,000 years older than its counterparts of the species. The age of this tree can be determined by the amount of rings that are found when the inner truck is exposed. There is where the truth of the extraordinary tree and its undeniable ability to outlive all other organisms lies. The bristlecone having the ability to outlive all other organisms can be questioned but instead of asking how it lives so long it should be questioned on the reasons for its lengthy pace to die. The bristlecone pine is known to grow in the White Mountains of eastern California. In that area conditions are not most desirable and ideal for plants to grow, however the bristlecone has managed to withstand the harsh conditions and surpass the hands of time. The White Mountains are an area that experiences short summers with a season for growing only being measured at several weeks. These mountains also adhere to strong dry winds that travel against rocky souls. These type of conditions cause any rain water that may fall to either drain off to fast for the plant to absorb or the water to just evaporate (Matthews, M). With such harsh conditions it is amazing that the bristlecone is still standing as the oldest living organism, unless it is because of these harsh conditions that the tree has such longevity. To do this, we must have an Understanding of the changes which occur in children and young people as they mature. Many different theories exist to assist in explaining the physical, social, cognitive and emotional changes that take place in children and young people as they grow. Such theories include psychoanalysis, cognitive behavioural theories, developmental theories and Humanism. A developmental psychologist named Erik Erikson proposed an eight stage theory on development, which stated that humans progress through eight psychosocial conflicts in order to develop completely (David, 2014). Comparing Storm On The Island And The Prelude Introduction: Both Seamus Heaney and William Wordsworth convey the power of nature through their poems Storm on the Island and Extract from, The Prelude . A key point of comparison between these two poems is that they both present nature as wielding power over man... Nature is presented as powerful or even more powerful than man itself: Heaney presents nature to be more powerful than the speaker and the rest of the island s residents. This is done through Heaney s use of military language. This choice of semantic field gives us the sense that man and nature are at opposition with one another and by the harsh military verbs it seems safe to assume that the weather is the dominant force of the two. Arguably, the use of an oxymoron reaffirms this struggle. To us, the oxymoron does not make sense but it is possible that the irregularity is intended to reflect the unfair battle that the islanders face. This may show us that the people on the island have made sense of what goes on even though we struggle to. Again, this demonstrates the power of nature by making the weather appear to be unable to be matched by man. Nature is presented as powerful or even more powerful than ... For random writes, its good and are slow for parity overhead Sequential I/Os offer good RAID reads and writes and also preferred even for large writes. For the database and standard files stored on the servers, the random I/O is preferred with an equal disk time span servicing of all of the I/O requests. For a single application, the RAID 0 with more disks are preferred. For the multiple applications, files might be performed either on RAID 1 or RAID 10. Finally, RAID 5 might receive some of the updates for workloads. Using the sequential I/O we can optimize the performance of our configuration. For writing the intensive fields its better to avoid either RAID 5 or RAID 6 rather than that we can use RAID 1 or 10. Chap 4 pg. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

World War I eventually coined the nickname the war to end all wars ; which we now find to be ironic because there have been plenty of wars since. At the time, however, it was believed that society would be rebirthed by the war and it would be changed to a more perfect form. There would be no sense in war anymore because humanity would finally be ideal. Yet when we examine the casualties and destruction post war, they add up to a horrific amount. During this era, it seemed nearly impossible for war to continue, in consideration to the welfare of humanity. Still though, it only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sometimes, terrible things have to happen so necessary changes can take place. In contrast to President Wilson s more rational ideals, Winston Churchill, an allied leader, argued this. He claimed that, We are not meant to find peace in this world, and that war often brought progress and necessary revolutions for the betterment of society. Some believed it would erase the class systems and return the mannerly values of society. Others believed it would overthrow the oppressing sense of dictatorship and democracy would prevail. Colonials believed that maybe the Europeans would finally grant them independence. Although war brings death and destruction, the world could be worse without it. A nation dies as soon as it disarms. War is the school of discipline, sacrifice, and courage. The Great War could not be the war to end all wars because history repeats itself. Both Puritans and the Recussants weren t happy with this settlement. This act was made of two acts the act of supremacy and the act of uniformity. The performances were held in the theater which to my surprise, is larger than I expected. I was also delighted to see the use of multiple kinds of lights to imbue a specific meaning. All the performances were great but the ones I felt the most connection to after watching are the ones I have decided to write on. (50 marks) Judicial independence is the concept that the judiciary needs to be kept away from the other branches of government. That is, courts should not be subject to improper influence from the other branches of government. Judicial independence is very important in a democracy as the public need to have confidence that their cases will be decided fairly and in accordance with the law. Judicial selection and appointment is important in securing an independent judiciary as seen by the politicisation of the judiciary. In the UK and US the system of electing Justices is highly politicised. In the US it is ultimately up to the President to choose a Justice who fits his political ideology and philosophy. There is a clear divide between Justices nominated by Republican Presidents (Scalia, Thomas, Roberts, and Alito) and those nominated by Democrats President (Ginsburg, Breyer, Sotomayor, and Kagan). Presidents seek to nominate Justices who share similar political views. Republicans tend to nominate strict constructionists who favour a more narrow reading of the Constitution and Democrats tend to appoint loose constructionists who believe in a broad interpretation of the Constitution. Elena Kagen received only a single Republican vote and Sonia Sotomayor did not receive any. It is unlikely that the Republicans considered them to be underqualified, and more likely that they ... Challenges Children Face that Need to Be Addressed Children in our communities are exposed to many challenges that need to be addressed by teachers and adults in order to keep a healthy environment that promotes their development. Parents need to be aware of children s different temperaments to make socialization easier and to improve friendships and understanding. Teachers need to be aware of the developmental practices to ensure the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children. Also, they need to be aware of the risk factors that affect their school performance and their life to help them overcome their problems. After observing how they behave and act in different situations, I was able to know each of their temperaments. For example, Maria fears strangers, gets frustrated very easily and most of the time is fussy and moody. According to Roberta M. Therefore, the kind of classroom and teaching style that could foster goodness of fit will be an environment with a lot of space for her to do many activities that require energy and that help her with her frustration. Some species of bacteria is always present in every different environment the plant has to offer. For this to be possible, bacteria are all very different from one another. This lab aimed to identify a certain colony of bacteria, using a variety of tests at the disposal of scientists. The simplest method of narrowing down possibilities involves the use of a compound microscope to observe the general shape of the cells. The shapes of the bacteria can be Bacilli, Cocci, or Spirochete. This helps to further narrow the possibilities of what the bacterial species is. Bacteria can be further split into two different groups: Gram positive and Gram negative. It was very uncommon for women to be respected as authors or even be educated enough to do so. Anne Bradstreet s The Prologue was a controversial work for a woman in Puritan society, as it challenged men to share the literary world with women. Through heavy sarcasm and self deprecation, Bradstreet defends women writers from the criticism of men. The sarcastic tone of the poem starts right at the first stanza. The film was written and directed by Steven Spielberg and released in the year 1977. This film doesn t have any superstar actors or actresses but interestingly enough, Meryl Streep auditioned but was not given a role in the film. The behind the scenes elements would make you want to believe that this movie would end up being a disappointment, but this assumption couldn t be more wrong. The storyline of Close Encounters of the Third Kind follows the events of a man that has an encounter with extraterrestrials. The main character, Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss), witnesses a UFO and is left with a burn on his skin and the image of a Devil s Tower engraved in his memory. Roy builds a model of the mountain in his home and becomes obsessed with UFOs and this eventually leads his wife to take their children and leave. A French scientist, Claude Lacombe, and an American interpreter, David Laughlin, are sent to India to investigate UFO activity where it is said they were communicating with a five tone musical phrase. The scientists broadcast this phrase into space and are given a response in the form of coordinates, and these coordinates just so happen to be the location of Devil s Tower in Wyoming. Louie s journey was no different. The physical affects were terrible, Louie had little food and water so he lost an extreme amount of weight. This was compounded with beating with first and kicks. The prison guards didn t care, they made the POW s work long, free labor hours. There were no medicines to treat any sick or injured so, if you were hurt you would most likely end up dead. All this horrible treatment truly affected Louie psychological as well. This is commonly known as post traumatic stress disorder. After he found out bird was still alive, Louie tried to forget and put the past behind him but the feeling of anxiety was just too great. Louie called for a meeting with the Bird to no avail. Although there were almost overwhelming negative effects, there were very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
