Paul Laurence Dunbar We Wear The Mask Summary
A typical problem that has plagued human beings since the beginning of time. Emotions that
flutter in all directions, and consume our inner conscious. What is the typical way of dealing
with the problems that we face? Typically, we mask our emotions. Put them aside to rot in our
mind, and eat away at our own self. As human beings it is the norm. The normal way of dealing
with our problems is to not pay attention to them Stowing them away so we can go out into the
real world. Inevitably leaving your own being to face the problems in a time of loneliness. Waving
the white flag: indulging yourself in a conflict that is hard to face. Feelings of sadness and
depression can way heavy on one. Laying a path of uncontrollable thoughts, and actions.... Show

Compared to one another, they both get across the point of masking your emotions. Hiding the
feelings, you have on the inside, and broadcasting them positively on the outside. You may feel
sadness, and guilt on the inside, but on the outer layer; you smile, laugh, and enjoy life. Though
Robinson s poem ends in suicide. We can still interpret the theme of masking your emotions. They
both have underlying tones to their stories. Dunbar s is targeting the African American
community, while we get the interpretation that Robinson is speaking of society as a whole.
Allowing us to compare the views of each, and their point of emphasis on what they are trying to
get across to the reader. Overall, both writers to a well job in creating a world that we all live in.
Surprisingly, in such a short amount of stanzas. Both draw the attention of the audience because it
is subject that we can connect to. The feelings that we feel, and our shameless attempts to hide them
from others. Even though they build up their poems in a different way. Dunbar is a mellow tone,
and tone of constant sadness, while Robinson voices happy words, with a dramatic climax. They
both hit the point by building on it in two distinctive ways. Tales that connect with natural human
feelings, and well written ideas of the human psychological

Comparing The Chimney Sweep And Songs Of Innocence And...
William Blake s The Chimney Sweep and Songs of Innocence and Experience
In this essay I will attempt to analyse, compare and contrast the poems The Chimney Sweep from
both Songs of Experience and Songs of Innocence which were both written by William Blake in
1790 92 and 1789 respectively. These two poems were amalgamated in 1794 to create a new
collection called Songs of Innocence and Experience .
I will be looking at what Blake says and hints at concerning the two contrary states of the human
soul in the two poems as well as looking at the message Blake is trying to convey to the reader. As
the poems are written regarding the same subject, that is a chimney sweep, I will be looking at how
they differ in their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was because of the huge power the rich and wealthy possessed; they could pay people less
and lay workers off without the fear of them taking mass industrial action because people were
so desperate for the money and would not have even have thought have taking such action. Over
the years life got harder for the working class year by year and was basically a constant battle to
stay alive, which many were losing. Due to the fact that people were so poor, the burden of
contributing to the family income was placed on children even earlier and this quite often meant
working as a chimney sweep from the age of four, a topic explored in Blake s two poems. Life
expectancy was short and if you were unfortunate enough to be a chimney sweep you were seen
to be doing well if you got past the age of ten. Money generally means power and at that time in
the world it was especially true and actually to a greater degree and so the more money you had
the more power and authority you had and if you were rich enough you could not only have an
influence on the area of the country you lived in but also be influential in the running of the
country. Consequently due to the totally disproportionate spread of power within the country,
people who were very poor had absolutely no say in the

How Does Thomas Pynchon Use Of Entropy
Thomas Pynchon s short story Entropy uses entropy as the controlling metaphor to depict the
measure of disorder in postmodern America illustrating the author s vision of a society in decline.
The term entropy has two dictionary meanings: one related to the science of thermodynamics
representing the randomness in a systems thermal energy; and the other meaning refers to a lack of
order or gradual decline into disorder. Pynchon uses this term in parody intertwining both meanings
to portray the struggle of maintaining order in a world overcome by chaos. Interestingly, the setting
of this story is in Washington D.C. and depicts a variety of characters in an apartment complex. The
author intertwines the activities of two very distinct and contrasting apartments, one above the
other, while also incorporating the external symbolism of weather... Show more content on

where the main character, Callisto, lives obsessed with the paranoia of an inevitable doom of the
universe based on the heat death of thermodynamics. On the contrary, the apartment below is
inundated with chaos and a wild scene resulting from an ongoing end of lease party, overseen by
the main character, Meatball. Pynchon uses these opposing scenes to demonstrate the notion of
order and disorder in a world falling apart.
Just like the contrasting oddities of the occupants in the apartments, the beginning of this story

An increasing amount of this sustenance was given and I devoured all of the nourishment. When
hunger subsided, I rested on the meal which led me to look around. Small orange blocks filled the

strange figures. There were more lights like this all over the room, some bright and some dim. A

Psycho, By Alfred Hitchcock
We all go a little mad sometimes, and that could possibly be exactly how many feel after
watching Psycho, released in 1960, and directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Hitchcock took a different
route in terms of plot and structure for the typical Hollywood style. Psycho, like a young child
never stops asking questions, it leaves us in a state of doubt and unbelief. It is classic horror,
with the numerous jump scares leaving us at the edge of our seat, as every moment passes. Yet in
the beginning, it s seems to portray a rather classic form in a sense, a near Aristotelian story. A
woman who appears to be the main character in love, who is then faced with a problem, not enough
money to marry her love, who then steals money to help build a future... Show more content on

Let s get this clear about the only certainty that was in Psycho, was the first couple seconds of the
movie when it displayed the location and the date. Everything else known to be true later on ended
in a twist. For example, take the cover of Psycho, at first glance many may assume that Marian
Crane, the woman on the cover, is ultimately the main character, the protagonist, the hero. If the
cover didn t help out the opening scene was revealed two characters a man (Sam) and a woman
(Marian) who appear to be in love. We have identified the main character Marian and we have
identified the problem or goal a protagonist must achieve in a movie, obtain money so Marian
and Sam can get married. Then we see Marian at work, where a rude, self pleasing, arrogant, rich
man enters bargaining about himself and his daughter s wedding. Marian is then presented with a
task deliver the money to the bank. Hitchcock has successfully set the bait and hooked the
audience into backing Marian in any decision. She s doing it for love right, and the jerk has plenty
of money anyway. After watching the entire movie I began to realize the true brilliance of Alfred
Hitchcock, because, of course everyone loves a hero good, let s kill her 40 minutes into the movie
and this is where things became interesting the structure of the film. Doubt begins to creep into the

Owens Valley Summary
Kharl argues that in the case of the Sierra Nevada s Owens Valley, located approximately 250
miles north Los Angeles, the valley s agricultural shareholders and the City of Los Angeles
originally sought an agreement that reserved sufficient water for valley residents to maintain their
ranching life style while concurrently exporting the valley s surplus to the soon to be developed
San Fernando Valley. Such an agreement would allow rural users to maintain their ranches while
concurrently allowing Los Angeles to grow. In 1913, as plans for the Los Angeles Aqueduct
finally came to fruition with water flowing from the valley to the basin, years of effort ended with
both parties unable to agree to an acceptable division of those waters with the... Show more content

Climate change and its impact on basic water supply is at their foreground. It is an unfortunate
reality that the terms of the Colorado Compact, the document dividing the Colorado s waters, is an
unworkable document. Based on allotments formulated in an especially wet year, the average
volume now flowing does not meet the amounts specified in the agreement. Under the terms of the
document, California receives the largest share, but with Southern California s exploding
population, this will be increasingly inadequate. Absent changes in both urban and agricultural use
patterns, the deficit will only grow and further stress the state s political and economic systems.

Characteristics Of The Public Accounting Firm
AUDITOR CHARACTERISTICS
The characteristics of the public accounting firm performing the audit over an accelerated filer or
large accelerated filer has a significant impact on the overall audit. Through research compiled by
Ge and McVay, the purpose of this analysis will be to acknowledge the impact of firm size on the
audit of internal controls in order for public companies to remain in compliance with SOX 404
regulations. Through their findings, the auditor characteristic of firm size has been proven to offer
a more enhanced and comprehensive audit.
Audit Firm Size
Through the study carried out by Ge and McVay, the relationship between firm size and material
weaknesses is revealed. For purposes of this study, the term large audit firm refers to the Big 6
accounting firms of: BDO Seidman, Deloitte Touche, Ernst Young, Grant Thornton, KPMG, and
PricewaterhouseCoopers. Ge and McVay reasoned that larger audit firms are expected to have
more expertise and higher exposure to legal liability than smaller firms (Ge et al., 151). The
research findings validated this hypothesis, proving large accounting firms to be positively
correlated with internal control deficiencies. This asserts to the fact that larger firms have a
greater depth of resources and are subjected to greater oversight, as exemplified by the PCAOB s
annual reviews (Ge et al., 153).
The key implications made by these studies underscores the enhanced level of audit procedures
brought about by greater firm size

Opazo et al. (2006) conducted an analysis and found that among the six loci used in their study,
two of them supported the hypothesis which suggests that the first split was between Pitheciidae
and the remaining platyrrhines, which grouped Atelidae and Cebidae together (Chavez et al.,
1999) and one of the loci supported the hypothesis of Ateliedae and Pitheciidae being sister
group of the family Cebidae (Canavez et al., 1999). These results therefore indicate that there was
an initial radiation in the early Miocene which separated the three families from one another.

279). Generally speaking, these divergence times support the known New World monkey fossil
record. Palaentological evidence thus far describes Doliochocebus as a fossil of cebine, in the
clade that includes extant members of genus Saimiri (Szalay and Delson, 1979). Based on
estimations of the origin of the subfamily Cebinae which was 18 million years ago, this fossil
was in fact the stem of the subfamily. Also, Stirtonia was considered to be an alouattinin fossil
(Szalay and Delson, 1979) and according to their results the split between Alouatta and the
remaining members of the family occurred 16 million years ago (Opazo et al., 2006 p. 279), a
result that also agrees with the fossil record. Furthermore, the fossil pitheciid Cebupithecia is one
of the most complete skeletons of a fossil platirrhine and believes to be dated near the time of the
most recent common ancestor of the total group. By using the molecular clock, the split between
the lineage that eventually led to Callicebus and the lineage leading to the other pitheiid genera
occurred after the divergence of Callicebus but before the divergence of Pithecia, Cacajao, and
Chiropotes (Opazo et al,. 2006, p. 294). Wildman et al. (2009) however, inferred that Pitheciidae is
the sister taxon to the other two platyrrhine families, Cebidae and Ateliedae. Their data confidently

The Bias In History Damon Summary
The Bias in History: An Annotated Bibliography
Damon, Mark. A History and What Really Happened . A guide to Writing in History and Classics.
Utah State University. 2002. This text analyses the complexities in writing and interpreting history.
Mark Damon claims that historians encompass at least three different ways of accessing the past;
remembering, recovering, or inventing. The texts states that no history is the full unvarnished truth
and that memory is usually what many must result to, making the facts potentially flawed. It also
discusses how evidence and artifacts aren t complete without context and some historians result to
fabricating the story behind it. Throughout the text it glances at two very different historians, the
Roman Tacitus and the Byzantine Procopius, and shows the range and difficulty inherent in the
study of the past.

The aim was to clone a cow that didn t produce the BLG protein milk in its milk. Somatic cell
nuclear transfer (SCNT) is a technique of cloning used in Daisy the cow.
The steps taken in the process of SCNT cloning are: the nucleus, which contains the organism s
DNA, of a somatic cell is removed from a healthy egg after it has reached its dormant stage ( where
cell replication no longer occurs) and the rest of the cell is discarded. It is necessary for the cell
to be in dormant stage as dormant cells can stay in this state for long period of time, for this time
period the cell is inactive. At the same time, the nucleus of an egg cell is removed from another

In the United States teenage pregnancy outside of marriage is labeled as a social problem.

The Tragedy Of Hamlet By William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Hamlet is a misfortunate play that exhibits Prince Hamlet s
internal and external conflicts which show the ultimate purpose of the story. Revenge is perhaps
the greatest theme in Hamlet, and is shown by the conflicts Prince Hamlet has with his family,
friends, and a girlfriend as well as within his self. The anguish Hamletfeels towards his new father
and his mother is magnified by the discovery that they were both involved in his father, the king
s, murder. This anger transcends to unassuming characters like his fiancГ©, his best friend, and
other minor characters. Hamlet s goal of revenge takes over his character and transforms him
from a quiet intellectual to a cruel, vengeful villain. The use of imagery, simile, and
foreshadowing in the story helps the reader visualize how something rotten in the state of
Denmark came to be. Hamlet and his new father, arguably have the strongest conflict, making their
relationship important to analyze. Hamlet previously trusted and loved his uncle, Claudius, but
after his marriage to his mother he becomes emotionally compromised. Prince Hamlet s anger
towards the new king is easily seen. King Claudius appears to show no remorse until his dying
breath. Hamlet struggles in his relationship with his mother because he does love her, but is rattled

The Central Theme Of Secrecy In Lanval By Marie De France
Some people keep secrets in order to keep the peace, to keep the happiness, and to keep others
safe. There are many people in the world who feel that keeping a secret is wrong or may feel
disrespected because a person is not being open and honest with them. Everyone has a different
perspective of the influence secrets have on people. Medieval author, Marie De France, wrote the
story of Lanval which tells the story of a knight who must keep his love with the woman of his
dreams a secret or he will lose her forever. Secrecyis the central theme of Marie De France s story.
The theme of secrecy in this story adds to the dramatic effect of passion that the characters share
with one another. This essay will examine how the theme of secrecy in Marie De France s Lanval
was an essential component to the story, how the choices made by the characters affected the plot,
and how secrecy contributes to the entire meaning of the work. Lanval tells the story of one of

Effects Of Climate Change On Our Planet
Karen Leswing Professor Susan Browning ENG 112 83 July 11, 2016 Charlotte, North Carolina
s Solution to Climate Change Climate change has taken its toll on our planet. Record heat, fires,
drought and snowstorms have all become the norm in our worldwide weather patterns. The city
of Charlotte has also suffered from the consequences of climate change with extreme
temperatures, record snowstorms and ice storms. It is apparent that action must be taken
immediately to stop climate change (Sargent). How can a small city attempt to solve a global
issue such as climate change? Can climate change be solved on an individual level? The answer
is yes; a small city can greatly reduce carbon emissions by each individual s choice of clean
energy. Climate change has been identified as a terrible threat to all living things on our planet.
Cities and individual companies have recognized that coal burning power plants create massive
amounts of carbon emissions that contaminate air quality and cause climate change (Sargent).
North Carolina has a personal experience with the negative effects of coal burning power. Not
only did local coal burning power plants emit massive amounts of carbon emissions into the air
but after these coal plants were shut down, millions of tons of coal ash is were behind with no
effective plan in place to handle the toxic substance (Henderson). As coal burning power plants are

Memo On Thanksgiving
The purpose of this memo is to evaluate my Thanksgiving celebration and determine if it reached
the potentials and my expectations of feeling thankful.
This year I did not had a traditional Thanksgiving, but tell you the truth it never is in my home. I
am borne and grew up in a different country, even in a different continent, where we had a different
history and our holidays are somewhat different as well, with view exceptions of New Year on
January 1 and Christmas, only the date is different, January 12th. The funniest question I get from
people around the holiday is, What do you cook in your country on Thanksgiving? I have no idea,
DAH!!!

Remember the Titans is a film directed by Boaz Yakin bases in 1971 when discrimination,
prejudice, and racism was still a way of life. Due to a court order, three high schools in Alexandria,
Virginia were forced to integrate their students and faculty for the first time. Consequently, Coach
Bill Yoast, a prominent, white member of the community and longtime head coach of the T.C.
Williams High School football team, is asked to step down. Herman Boone is appointed to replace
him as the school s first black faculty member and head football coach. The new coach faces many

Sunshine, the backup quarterback was called in after their first string quarterback, Reggie was
injured intentionally by a white player on the opposing team. Sunshine knew that it was on
purpose so he told one of his blockers to go ahead and let him through. After he threw the pass, he
table topped the guy coming at him that had just hurt Reggie in the previous play. That was an
example of unity at its finest, coming together as a team, as brothers when they were tested.
Sunshine made a point to stand up for a friend, someone he had grown to develop a relationship

Gerry couldn t be at the championship game due to his car accident that left him paralyzed, so

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Essay
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, otherwise known as SNAP, originates from the
Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1933. It was established in the Great Depression era as the
Federal Surplus Relief Corporation when crop prices fell drastically and farms were struggling to
deal with the excess supply. The Federal government bought the surplus as discounted prices and
distributed them to hunger relief agencies. In 1939 as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt s
New Deal program, the FoodStamp Plan was created by Secretary of Agriculture Henry Wallace
to formalize the food distribution efforts. Although this initial program ceased in 1943 because of
a decrease in the number of people living in poverty, it was reintroduced in 1961 by President
John F. Kennedy through a food stamp pilot program. In 1964, the Food Stamp Act was passed by
President Lyndon Johnson. This program required the purchase of stamps based on the participant
s income level to permit the purchase of low cost nutritional food. After a program revision in 1977
which ended the requirement for participants to purchase stamps, a nutritional educational program
called SNAP Education was added to the food stamp program in 1981. This program allowed states
to apply for matching funds from the Federal government to deliver nutritioneducation to eligible
persons. In the 1990s, efforts were made to streamline administration of the program which
included the introduction of an Electronic Benefit

6.03 Calorimetry Lab
The objective of this lab was first to convert the mass of a compound to the number of moles and
number of molecules and then determine the concentration of salt and its component. The first
thing we did was get the mass of an empty container by using a scale and it came out to be
16.87g. Next thing we did was pick a substance which in this case it was Potassium Chloride and
placed it on the scale to get a total massof 31.20g. The container the Potassium Chloride was in
only had a mass of 16.87g which means that the mass of the substance was 14.33g. To convert the
mass to the number of moles we took the amount of the substance 14.33g and divided it by the
mass of Potassium Chloride 74.55g and figured out that the number of moles was 0.192.... Show

Then we took 8.35mL of salt water and put it in the evaporating dish which we placed over a
Bunsen burner until all the water was dried out. The mass of the evaporating dish with the solid
was 83.39g which means the mass of the sodium chloride was 0.622g. Next we took the mass
and divided it by the volume of the solution which was 8.35mL and got 0.074 as the original
concentration. To the get molarity of the salt solution we had to divide the concentration by the
mass of the sodium chloride and then multiply by 1000mL to get 1.3M of salt solution. Final
thing we had to do was determine the number ions present in 8.35mL so we took 1.3 moles of
NaCl and divided it by 1000mL then multiplied by 8.5mL to get 0.01105 number of Na ions and
Cl. The data was as I expected for part A because I followed step by step instructions on how to
convert from grams to moles and moles to number of molecules and for part B my answer of 1.3
molarity of salt solution matched with key provided on LoudCloud. During this lab I learned how

Dead Pool
In the movie Dead Pool, one unimportant character says, Opinions are like assholes. Everybody
s got one and everyone thinks everyone else s stinks. This is how I feel about Aristotle s view on
what makes a drama dramatic. In Poetics, he states every good drama must have a protagonist, a
plot, and a fatal flaw. But why? To no extent should my opinion of a good dramabe any less than
Aristotle s. I find myself identifying with an inanimate object that blows up stuff in the movie,
Rubber. Although I believe there are many other ways of giving value to a film or play, Aristotle s
Poeticscan be used to review Rubber. Rubber meets three of Poetics requirements for a successful
drama; characters act believably, spectacle is used thoroughly, and... Show more content on

One of the supporting characters, an unnamed cop, is the main example of this. Copper, the
unnamed cop, breaks the fourth wall of the play in the movie. He thinks Rubber has died. He think
the problem has been solves, and that he can stop acting now. The other cops refuse to break
character. Robber had recognized the ironic situation of being an actor in a play, that turned out
not to be a play. Rubber himself expresses the act of knowing the irony after he spoils the cops
plot to kill him. Robber in the end, dies. It s super awkward for an actor to actually die on stage,
also very ironic because he was going to act like a dying man anyway. Before dying, Robber
says, Who taught this tire how to kill? And the answer to that question is nobody. Perhaps Rubber
s lack of morals comes from his uneducated past. Suzi Parker, a doctor or something, reported
President Obama saying, The single most important factor in determining student achievement is
not the color of their skin or where they come from. It s not who their parents are or how much
money they have. It s who their teacher is. Rubber was black, from a rural community, an orphan,
and poor. He also had no teacher. Whether it s an isolated incident, or a case of alternate casualty,
Rubber was screwed from the start. He acted out intentionally and the irony remains the same from
beginning to end. Aristotle knew the importance of keeping recognition of irony for a certain point

Lord Of The Flies Savage Analysis
There is a savage beast in every man, and when you hand that man a sword or spear and send him
forth to war, the beast stirs ― George R.R. Martin, A Storm of Swords. Once a man is placed
into the wild, he is soon to turn savage to gain power and thrive through uncivilized situations.
They will do barbaric actions when left from civilization. In the book, Lord of the Flies By William
Golding, he uses the group of boys to illustrate that while one may start as a civilized human,
when there is a chance to seize power, he will turn savage to take and keep that power. At first,
the boys remain calm and work together, until Jack moves to a more savage state making him
do inhumane actions. This idea is also stressed in an article analyzing people without
civilization. Lost and stranded on a small island, the boys decide to elect a leader which causes
the conflict of power. A plane crashes onto the island leaving a bunch of kids stranded on a
remote island. They need a leader to keep the kids alive and they decide that either Jack or Ralph
should be in control. When all the boys are on the beach, Jack brings up the point that [he] ought
to be chief, said Jack with a simple arrogance, because [he is] chapter chorister and head boy. [he]
can sing C sharp (Golding 22). Jack is making up excuses to become leader. Jack says he can sing
a C sharp which is portraying how people of today make up random stuff to look more fit to lead.

A Proposal On The Quality Of Drinking Water
A Proposal on the Quality of Drinking Water

Submitted to
Prof. Steven Karl
In fulfillment of course requirements for ENC 1102
Abstract:
Good hydration is a very important aspect in our daily health and it is critical that we keep our
bodies hydrated. Water is of great significance, since it is used for drinking and in preparing our
daily food. Today, there are a lot of concerns about drinking tap waterdue to the fact that it may
contain potential toxins; so consequently, many people choose to drink bottled water instead. But
there have been increased concerns about the consumption of the bottle of waters as well. The
purpose of this research is to identify which water is best to drink and use; and to help people to
make the right decision when it comes to the water they are consuming.
Purpose Statement:
Bottled water, tap water or filtered water: which one to choose? Many people have already
elected to drink bottled water or choose to install under sink filtration equipment to avoid the risk
of drinking contaminated tab water, and these options do help overcome many of the potential
problems of drinking tap water but they are not without a downside. So, how can we be sure that
the water we drink is of the highest quality and it has the right properties to hydrate our bodies?
What kind of water should we drink? This issue has become increasingly complex in the recent
years and it has become a dilemma that most people do have.

Introduction Amino acids are the basic building blocks of the body and sources of energy, like fats
and carbohydrates. They are structurally characterized by the fact that they contain nitrogen (N),
whereas fats and carbohydrates do not. Therefore, only amino acids are capable of forming tissues,
organs, muscles, skin and hair. Chains of amino acid make proteins. Proteins are among the most

Only 20 mL of amino acid was used for both titrations. Around 5mL of HCl was used in the acid
titration of the unknown but only 1.55 mL of base was used for the Basic titration. The table of
acidic and basic titrations is attached where it shows that the amino acid therefore was acidic since
it took a lot more acid than the base for titration. Molar equivalence was calculated using the
concentration and volumes of amino acid and titrants. A graph was plotted which showed two pH
value, one at 1.5 and the other at 0.5. The pH at 1.5 was 2.53 and at 0.5 was 10.15. The pI was
then calculated to be 6.34. The unknown amino acid, AA 01 04, was concluded to be Aspartate or
Aspartic acid by examining the titration curve and pH s at the Molar equivalence.

Persuasive Essay On Cheating
I learned from experience that you should never cheat on a test. If you get caught, the
consequences are not always the best and it can cause great embarrassment if you are
considered a good, well behaved student by your peers and teachers. When you put your best
foot forward and try to do the work without just copying the answers down to cheat off of, you
will actually learn something. You would not need to rely on the cheat sheet you made or
wanted to make. If you do cheat and get caught, take it as a lesson learned. It is not the best
experience ever had and it may just cause you to be disappointed in yourself. One day I was in

Lake Toba Essay
1. Introduction 1.1. Toba Catastrophe Lake Toba is located in Sumatra, Indonesia (Figure 1). The
Toba Eruption was the last of three major eruptions, which occurred over the past million years,
creating a volcanic caldera1. The most recent eruption, also known as the Youngest Toba Tuff
erupted around 73,000 (В± 4000) years ago2. This created a global catastrophe that effected many
species, including humans. Many researchers have linked this even to the most recent bottleneck in
human evolution resulting in a dramatic drop in the human population to only about 3,000 to
10,000 in a very short period of time3. 1.2 Definition of Supereruption The term supereruption was
introduced after the Toba eruption in 1992 to describe the devastating effects that occurred5. To
this date, there is no strict definition however; an eruption that can produce over 300 cubic
kilometers of magma would have global consequences and therefore, be considered super 6. The
volume of magma that erupted from Toba was much greater than any other eruption previously
recorded2. The fragmental deposit from such a large eruption can produce volumes of 1000km3 or
greater7. Therefore, according to this definition, the latest eruption of Toba can definitely be
considered a supereruption. 1.3 Comparison to Yellowstone Eruptions Figure 2 compares the
volume of material erupted from several different eruptions and it is clear the Yellowstone eruptions
were of significant size. Three of the eruptions

Cultural Ignorance in Heart of Darkness, By Joseph Conrad...
An inescapable ignorance dominates the way we define culture . It is all too easy to define
culture when a group of people feel as though they are part of the same culture. A bias arises when
defining this term, because we consider ourselves to be cultured . We define culture with our own
definitions, and we judge it through our own prejudiced eyes. To accurately define culture, we must
take ourselves out of the cultural boundaries we have been accustomed to. Of course, this is
impossible. Accordingly, defining the essence of culture is something I cannot attempt to do.
In Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, the attempt to define the cultural line leads to the corruption,
greed, and evil of the white man. Even when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They use the natives for work that does not even exist, and a pleasure arises from treating natives
as their slaves. At the central station, Marlow is struck by the seemingly pointless operation of
the bricklayer. The central station cannot perform its supposed duty due to a lack of material
that will never reach the station. The men become paralyzed in a state of inefficiency that traps
them in the heart of darkness. Their existence becomes stagnant and non moving. The men waste
away their lives placing themselves above the natives for no apparent purpose. In Apocalypse
Now, soldiers even begin to surf in the middle of a war battle! Marlow claims, What saves us
(those that do work) is efficiency the devotion to efficiency (Conrad 10). They are able to escape
the reaches of darkness by keeping their minds set on just doing their job . It seems though, that
efficiency does not save these men. Ignorance becomes their real saving grace. By ignoring the
greed of his fellow man, the working white man allows his heart to escape this darkness. By
refusing to acknowledge the horrible deeds done by those around him, the working man can avoid
the inescapable path I referred to previously.
So what causes the white man to dive into the heart of darkness? Sure, greed is the primary
driving force, but the way the white man feeds his greed causes the problem. Men such as the
Manager and Kurtz, see the natives as mere workhorses, as a part of the other world, the

Sexual Deviancy and the Internet Essay examples

Sexual acts historically were and sometimes still are, seen as private and sacred acts of sexual
activity. Sexual activities such as copulation, oral and anal sex, was performed in the privacy of
people s home and no one was the wiser or at least they tended to never discuss this openly of
how a baby came to be born, growing up I remember my parents always telling me the stork
brought the baby. In prior times of history such as in the 1970 s to the 1980 s usually what
happened in the home stayed in the home and was not really discussed or viewed as openly in
social settings. Many times unfortunately, the sex acts went beyond that of love making and too
many times instances of rape also went unreported or were never investigated and considered to
be a private home issue to be dealt with by the family. However, as the internet has expanded and
grown, those private moments of pleasure are now seen by everyone. A socially proscribed and
severely sanctioned behavior that was once relegated largely to secrecy among isolated
individuals is now at the center of a cyber community in which all manner of support is readily

A very popular technique used in propaganda is plain folk. This is a technique when advertising
makes the average American citizen feel he can relate to the people in the advertisement. For
instance, an advertisement in Men s Health depicted a family camping trip with a honorable father
smoking while singing around a campfire to his kids. Also, an additional promotion that was found
in this magazine was a healthy in shape man smoking. This is an unrealistic situation for healthy
and well respected fathers. Another way people are shielded from the negative reality of tobacco
use is through celebrities. This is called testimonial techniques of propaganda. Testimonial
technique is an extremely important and controversial method. This technique is when a celebrity
or notorious person gimmicks people into the product by making it seem better because they use it
or promote it. One example of this is Emmit Smith using chewing tobacco. His slogan, Pinch
between your cheek and gums , is catchy and appealing to football fans. This is a extremely
unhealthy promotion for young athletes. The catch with a testimonial technique is it might appear
as though the celebrity enjoys a product when in reality he/she has never touched it.
The last technique of propaganda is Bandwagon. The bandwagon technique makes people feel like
they should go along with the crowd. This technique usually succeeds because most people have a

Analyzing The Root Causes Of Risk Mismanagement
Analyzing the Root Causes of Risk Mismanagement
Introduction
According to Kendrick (2009, p. 17), roughly 75 percent of projects fail when project teams
refuse to adopt some form of risk monitoring and control. Ken Black (1996), an associate
professor of decision sciences, published an article listing twelve factors that contribute to the
failure of projects. The article highlighted risks, as one of the factors that can negatively affect
project constraints (Black, 1996). A risk, as defined by Kendrick (2009, p. 1), is an event or series
of events that occur due to the level of uncertainty associated with the project outcome. If a risk
occurs, it threatens the success of a project because it can halt or prolong the project s constraints. ...

Novice team members mistakenly assume that risks will not occur (Jutte, n.d.). Likewise, novice
team members also associate the implementation of risk management with adding extra work to an
already time poor schedule without any added benefits (Kendrick, 2009, p. 21). Too, novice team
members have no frame of reference for estimating the probability of impact of risk occurrences
and may adopt ineffective risk response strategies thereby increasing the impacts of risk
occurrences.
Unlike novice team members, veteran team members understand the benefits of risk management
and draw upon their experience with past projects to mitigate risks (Awati, 2011). However,
veteran team members assert their individual perception when proposing approaches to risk
management based on their personal experiences (Awati, 2011). According to Awati (2009),
subjective judgments such as of illusion of control give veteran team members a false sense of
security with the respect to the degree of control they have over minimizing or avoiding a risk.
Likewise, groupthink is an example of veteran team members intimidating less experienced
colleagues into agreeing with an approach because they present evidence that contradicts their
resolution (Awati, 2009). Thus, all cognitive biases contain some degree of error in perception and
can lead to project failure.

Teenage Brains

Going back to the gray matter, the outer layer of gray matter is the frontal cortex. This is where
we make decisions and where we do much of our conscious and complicated thinking. Phineas
Gage, a renowned neuroscience patient in the 1800, was hit with a iron rod to the head, yet
minutes after he was still able to move and act normal (Fleischman 6). The only thing was that he
could not make decisions. When given a $1000 for the pebbles he collected, he angrily refused the

learned so much of the brain that has helped us understand our own brains and the people around
us. From this scientist learned that the sections of the brain had parts and functions such as
language and comprehension(65). Lastly they learned about germs and that you need to make sure

we did not know this. All of these components helped us understand the teen brain just a little bit

His other Admirals slowly gave their authority to him and he ran the combined naval and aerial
fleet. He struck fear in his soldiers so they would be obedient to him. Yamamoto s planning had
some faults after the Pearl Harbor attack and he lost 4 crucial carriers including his old command
ship the Akagi. The Japanese were still facing a very dangerous enemy. The Japanese thought
less of the American Navy and Air Force and underestimated them. Yamamoto made some
terrible mistakes during the war with the United States. He was unwilling to let the Japanese use
their big guns against the US force, it cost him a defeat because it was already too late when he
gave the order to use the big guns. He was killed while being flown to inspect US bases by US
aircraft. Source #1:

Sexual Violence And Gender Based Crimes
This paper examines the prosecutorial strategy that the Prosecutor of the International Criminal
Court must adopt concerning sexual violence and gender based crimes. The focus of the research is
on the second situation in the Central African Republic, being currently investigated by the Court,
because of its practicality since it is a conflict in which sexual violence has played an essential role.
The author suggests that the origin of sexual violence is of the utmost importance when deciding to
investigate and prosecute these crimes. The role of patriarchal structures within the Central African
Republicsociety determine the impact and degree of severity of sexual violence and genderbased
crimes in the unfolded armed conflict. Therefore, the authors suggests the changes that must be
applied to the current strategy to guarantee an adequate prosecution of sexual violence and gender
based crimes. Then author explains that a comprehensive research on the background of gender
inequality within the society must be compulsory for every investigation that the Prosecutor carries
out. Then, the author further argues that the Office of the Prosecutor must upgrade the gendered
prosecutorial strategy already implemented to ensure a gender neutral approach. The elements and
the prosecutorial strategy must be modified to include changes that would assure a more faithful
depiction of gender dynamics. The authors suggests that the definition of rape in the Rome Statute
must include

Induced Abortion In The United States
The world is full of controversial issues such as abortion, same sex marriage, terrorism, the death
penalty, global warming, legalizing marijuana, healthcare, plastic surgery, illiteracy, use of stem
cells, and much more. People will continue arguing about these topics. According to studies, it
shows that four out of ten American women s pregnancies are terminated by abortion(Induced
Abortion in the United States). Sondra Forsyth, a journalist, wrote stories about three teens that got
pregnant and their process of making the decision to have an abortion or not. These three young
women had to make a difficult decision about whether to get an abortion or to keep their baby.
One woman decided to keep her baby and the other two teens decided to... Show more content on

First, there is the medical abortion. Medical abortion, sometimes called Mifeprexв„ў,RU 486, is a
non surgical abortion done using medication. There are two different methods of medical abortion
available: mifepristone followed by misoprostol and methotrexate followed by misoprostol.
Mifepristone is a pill that is swallowed by the patient. It interferes with a woman s ability to
produce a hormone called progesterone, which is needed for the fetus to grow. MTX or
methotrexate is a drug or injection that stops embryonic cell growth and stops from growing
outside the uterus. Misoprostol is either swallowed by the patient or placed in the vagina by the
doctor. The second type of abortion is surgical abortion, also known as vacuum aspiration. Surgical
abortion is when a doctor removes a fetus from the uterus. Ectopic pregnancy is an abnormal
pregnancy that grows outside the uterus and is often found in the fallopian tube, and it is very
dangerous because it can harm a woman or threaten her future fertility (Abortion: Which Method is
Right for Me?).
In conclusion, abortion should not be legal, even though abortion may take a burden off the
woman s shoulders. Abortion should be illegal because it is the killing of an innocent human
being. A baby deserves the right to live. Not only does abortion destroy a human life, but it can
also severely affect the mother, mentally, physically, and emotionally. Life is sacred and not meant
to be broken. It goes against the sixth commandments, and the landmark case of Roe v. Wade.
People should be more responsible for their actions instead of choosing the easy way out of

Extracellular Loop
The extracellular loops of GPCRs are important for receptor function. They contribute to protein
folding, provide structure to the extracellular region and mediate movement of the TM helices on
activation. The second extracellular loop (ECL2) is of significance for ligand binding and
receptor activation. In family B (or secretin like) GPCRs, it is the most conserved and often the
longest of all the ECLs, and so is in a good position to interact with the endogenous peptide agonists
for these receptors and is in a prominent central position to mediate conformational changes 17.
Mutations within ECL2 have been shown to affect GLP 1 binding and efficiency, indicating an
important role in GLP 1R activation. Interestingly, some mutations... Show more content on

The structural features of ECL2 and high lipophilicity of TAK 875 (which shows approximately
380 fold preference for lipophilic phase over aqueous phase) suggest that TAK 875 most
probably enters the binding pocket of hGPR40 through the lipid bilayer14. Looking at Figure 3,
the crystal structure of FFA1 provides a good starting point for understanding ligand docking
which predicts the preferred orientation of one molecule to a second molecule when bound to
each other to form a stable complex. Although docking of flexible Linoleic acid which is a
natural ligand is the least reliable, it helps to generate hypotheses as to how agonistic activity of
Linoleic acid could be amplified by synthetic agonists, like TAK 875, at a structural level. For
example, targeting Arginines, which are О± amino acids that are used in the biosynthesis of
proteins, from the extracellular side by substituting existing water mediated contacts could still
leave a possibility of targeting the Arginines from the side involved in interactions with amino
acids Tyrosines. The fact that the ligands could have different binding modes and occupy different
binding sites at FFA1 can be also seen from a site map search (Schrodinger, LLC, New York, NY,
USA 2014b) (Fig. 3, E)11. Tikonova et al.26 validated a docking protocol of the Glide

Laertes And Ophelia Character Analysis
The passing of Laertes and Ophelia s mother influences their self esteem and dependency in outside
relationships because it is in these close levels of intimacy that initial unresolved conflicts within
the family are reenacted and initiated subconsciously (Tyson 18). However, both exhibit and
perform the reenactment of their deepest, hidden feelings about their mothers absence in two
different and distinct manners. Furthermore, it is directly verified that when experimented,
...research links parental death to increased emotional reactions and grief process, which in turn
links to commitment levels in romantic relationships ; therefore, creating a wide variety of
emotion backlash on Laertes and Ophelia to find the one (Anderson 1). When analyzing Laertes
liaisons, there are not many secure connections evident in the play as he is depicted almost as a
lone wolf like, strong willed, and predominantly independent character. Although, Ophelia exposes
his lifestyle in Act I, Scene III, by showing the audience a different side of Laertes after witnessing
his so called protective advice to Ophelia:
But, good my brother,
Do not, as some ungracious pastors do,
Show me the steep and thorny way to heaven
Whiles, like a puffed and reckless libertine,
Himself the primrose path of dalliance treads
And recks not his own rede. (50 55)
Ophelia s words prove that there more exists within Laertes under the surface than a concerned
brother for his sister s heart and virtue. In

Descriptive Writing A Beautiful Girl
Beautiful Girl Ding dong! The bell rang a couple of times. I got up from bed. After the third
time, I went downstairs and peeked through the small hole on the door. There was a man in a
gray suit and a package resting on the ground. I opened the door and felt that I had a wild look.
He did not even look up and he handed me the clipboard. He muttered about being late to his next
route. I took the package from him and he finally looked up at me. When he saw me, he stared at
me for quite a while. It was very awkward. I handed him the clipboard and he continued to stare
at me. It was getting very creepy. I closed the door and went to my room. I looked through the
bedroom to find him walking down the narrow path lined with flowers. He greeted a person
wearing a fedora and a long tan coat. I caught the person s face when he looked up at the window.
My heart missed a beat as I thought about him seeing me. I thought he could see, but realized that
he could not. My heart was beating faster than before. The mysterious person went to the left and
the deliveryman went to the right. I closed the blinds and opened the package. I was excited
when I saw the teal notebook that I have been trying to look for. It is teal and made out of leather.
It is an expensive notebook. My friend had one and she noticed how much I loved journaling. She
showed me where to buy it, but they decided to sell it online only. I had the frustrations trying to
find the notebook. I finally got the notebook. I

  • 2. Paul Laurence Dunbar We Wear The Mask Summary A typical problem that has plagued human beings since the beginning of time. Emotions that flutter in all directions, and consume our inner conscious. What is the typical way of dealing with the problems that we face? Typically, we mask our emotions. Put them aside to rot in our mind, and eat away at our own self. As human beings it is the norm. The normal way of dealing with our problems is to not pay attention to them Stowing them away so we can go out into the real world. Inevitably leaving your own being to face the problems in a time of loneliness. Waving the white flag: indulging yourself in a conflict that is hard to face. Feelings of sadness and depression can way heavy on one. Laying a path of uncontrollable thoughts, and actions.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You may feel sadness, and guilt on the inside, but on the outer layer; you smile, laugh, and enjoy life. Though Robinson s poem ends in suicide. We can still interpret the theme of masking your emotions. They both have underlying tones to their stories. Dunbar s is targeting the African American community, while we get the interpretation that Robinson is speaking of society as a whole. Allowing us to compare the views of each, and their point of emphasis on what they are trying to get across to the reader. Overall, both writers to a well job in creating a world that we all live in. Surprisingly, in such a short amount of stanzas. Both draw the attention of the audience because it is subject that we can connect to. The feelings that we feel, and our shameless attempts to hide them from others. Even though they build up their poems in a different way. Dunbar is a mellow tone, and tone of constant sadness, while Robinson voices happy words, with a dramatic climax. They both hit the point by building on it in two distinctive ways. William Blake s The Chimney Sweep and Songs of Innocence and Experience In this essay I will attempt to analyse, compare and contrast the poems The Chimney Sweep from both Songs of Experience and Songs of Innocence which were both written by William Blake in 1790 92 and 1789 respectively. These two poems were amalgamated in 1794 to create a new collection called Songs of Innocence and Experience . I will be looking at what Blake says and hints at concerning the two contrary states of the human soul in the two poems as well as looking at the message Blake is trying to convey to the reader. As the poems are written regarding the same subject, that is a chimney sweep, I will be looking at how they differ in their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the fact that people were so poor, the burden of contributing to the family income was placed on children even earlier and this quite often meant working as a chimney sweep from the age of four, a topic explored in Blake s two poems. Life expectancy was short and if you were unfortunate enough to be a chimney sweep you were seen to be doing well if you got past the age of ten. Money generally means power and at that time in the world it was especially true and actually to a greater degree and so the more money you had the more power and authority you had and if you were rich enough you could not only have an influence on the area of the country you lived in but also be influential in the running of the country. • 4. How Does Thomas Pynchon Use Of Entropy Thomas Pynchon s short story Entropy uses entropy as the controlling metaphor to depict the measure of disorder in postmodern America illustrating the author s vision of a society in decline. The term entropy has two dictionary meanings: one related to the science of thermodynamics representing the randomness in a systems thermal energy; and the other meaning refers to a lack of order or gradual decline into disorder. Pynchon uses this term in parody intertwining both meanings to portray the struggle of maintaining order in a world overcome by chaos. Interestingly, the setting of this story is in Washington D.C. and depicts a variety of characters in an apartment complex. The author intertwines the activities of two very distinct and contrasting apartments, one above the other, while also incorporating the external symbolism of weather... Pynchon uses these opposing scenes to demonstrate the notion of order and disorder in a world falling apart. The item was held up by a black, curving substance over a strangely shaped carpet of cracks which had grains of different colors, some darker than others. Suddenly, the cylinder dropped a little of itself onto the rug. The precipitate had a pulsing orange glow and, as I continued to consume, more of these dropped off. I did not care what the solid dropping off was or where this phenomenon came from. An increasing amount of this sustenance was given and I devoured all of the nourishment. When hunger subsided, I rested on the meal which led me to look around. Small orange blocks filled the air connected by orange paste and a large light shined through the door, frequently blocked by strange figures. There were more lights like this all over the room, some bright and some dim. A giant had curled up near me which had orange fur and long flaps resting uselessly on the ground. • 8. Psycho, By Alfred Hitchcock We all go a little mad sometimes, and that could possibly be exactly how many feel after watching Psycho, released in 1960, and directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Hitchcock took a different route in terms of plot and structure for the typical Hollywood style. Psycho, like a young child never stops asking questions, it leaves us in a state of doubt and unbelief. It is classic horror, with the numerous jump scares leaving us at the edge of our seat, as every moment passes. Yet in the beginning, it s seems to portray a rather classic form in a sense, a near Aristotelian story. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Let s get this clear about the only certainty that was in Psycho, was the first couple seconds of the movie when it displayed the location and the date. Everything else known to be true later on ended in a twist. For example, take the cover of Psycho, at first glance many may assume that Marian Crane, the woman on the cover, is ultimately the main character, the protagonist, the hero. If the cover didn t help out the opening scene was revealed two characters a man (Sam) and a woman (Marian) who appear to be in love. We have identified the main character Marian and we have identified the problem or goal a protagonist must achieve in a movie, obtain money so Marian and Sam can get married. Then we see Marian at work, where a rude, self pleasing, arrogant, rich man enters bargaining about himself and his daughter s wedding. Marian is then presented with a task deliver the money to the bank. Hitchcock has successfully set the bait and hooked the audience into backing Marian in any decision. She s doing it for love right, and the jerk has plenty of money anyway. After watching the entire movie I began to realize the true brilliance of Alfred Hitchcock, because, of course everyone loves a hero good, let s kill her 40 minutes into the movie and this is where things became interesting the structure of the film. Such an agreement would allow rural users to maintain their ranches while concurrently allowing Los Angeles to grow. Characteristics Of The Public Accounting Firm AUDITOR CHARACTERISTICS The characteristics of the public accounting firm performing the audit over an accelerated filer or large accelerated filer has a significant impact on the overall audit. Through research compiled by Ge and McVay, the purpose of this analysis will be to acknowledge the impact of firm size on the audit of internal controls in order for public companies to remain in compliance with SOX 404 regulations. Through their findings, the auditor characteristic of firm size has been proven to offer a more enhanced and comprehensive audit. Audit Firm Size Through the study carried out by Ge and McVay, the relationship between firm size and material weaknesses is revealed. For purposes of this study, the term large audit firm refers to the Big 6 accounting firms of: BDO Seidman, Deloitte Touche, Ernst Young, Grant Thornton, KPMG, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Ge and McVay reasoned that larger audit firms are expected to have more expertise and higher exposure to legal liability than smaller firms (Ge et al., 151). The research findings validated this hypothesis, proving large accounting firms to be positively correlated with internal control deficiencies. This asserts to the fact that larger firms have a greater depth of resources and are subjected to greater oversight, as exemplified by the PCAOB s annual reviews (Ge et al., 153). The key implications made by these studies underscores the enhanced level of audit procedures brought about by greater firm size ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Palaentological evidence thus far describes Doliochocebus as a fossil of cebine, in the clade that includes extant members of genus Saimiri (Szalay and Delson, 1979). Based on estimations of the origin of the subfamily Cebinae which was 18 million years ago, this fossil was in fact the stem of the subfamily. Also, Stirtonia was considered to be an alouattinin fossil (Szalay and Delson, 1979) and according to their results the split between Alouatta and the remaining members of the family occurred 16 million years ago (Opazo et al., 2006 p. 279), a result that also agrees with the fossil record. Furthermore, the fossil pitheciid Cebupithecia is one of the most complete skeletons of a fossil platirrhine and believes to be dated near the time of the most recent common ancestor of the total group. By using the molecular clock, the split between the lineage that eventually led to Callicebus and the lineage leading to the other pitheiid genera occurred after the divergence of Callicebus but before the divergence of Pithecia, Cacajao, and Chiropotes (Opazo et al,. 2006, p. 294). Utah State University. 2002. This text analyses the complexities in writing and interpreting history. Mark Damon claims that historians encompass at least three different ways of accessing the past; remembering, recovering, or inventing. The texts states that no history is the full unvarnished truth and that memory is usually what many must result to, making the facts potentially flawed. It also discusses how evidence and artifacts aren t complete without context and some historians result to fabricating the story behind it. • 18. The Tragedy Of Hamlet By William Shakespeare William Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Hamlet is a misfortunate play that exhibits Prince Hamlet s internal and external conflicts which show the ultimate purpose of the story. Revenge is perhaps the greatest theme in Hamlet, and is shown by the conflicts Prince Hamlet has with his family, friends, and a girlfriend as well as within his self. The anguish Hamletfeels towards his new father and his mother is magnified by the discovery that they were both involved in his father, the king s, murder. This anger transcends to unassuming characters like his fiancГ©, his best friend, and other minor characters. Hamlet s goal of revenge takes over his character and transforms him from a quiet intellectual to a cruel, vengeful villain. The use of imagery, simile, and foreshadowing in the story helps the reader visualize how something rotten in the state of Denmark came to be. Hamlet and his new father, arguably have the strongest conflict, making their relationship important to analyze. Hamlet previously trusted and loved his uncle, Claudius, but after his marriage to his mother he becomes emotionally compromised. Prince Hamlet s anger towards the new king is easily seen. King Claudius appears to show no remorse until his dying breath. • 20. The Central Theme Of Secrecy In Lanval By Marie De France Some people keep secrets in order to keep the peace, to keep the happiness, and to keep others safe. There are many people in the world who feel that keeping a secret is wrong or may feel disrespected because a person is not being open and honest with them. Everyone has a different perspective of the influence secrets have on people. Medieval author, Marie De France, wrote the story of Lanval which tells the story of a knight who must keep his love with the woman of his dreams a secret or he will lose her forever. Secrecyis the central theme of Marie De France s story. The theme of secrecy in this story adds to the dramatic effect of passion that the characters share with one another. • 21. Effects Of Climate Change On Our Planet Karen Leswing Professor Susan Browning ENG 112 83 July 11, 2016 Charlotte, North Carolina s Solution to Climate Change Climate change has taken its toll on our planet. Record heat, fires, drought and snowstorms have all become the norm in our worldwide weather patterns. The city of Charlotte has also suffered from the consequences of climate change with extreme temperatures, record snowstorms and ice storms. It is apparent that action must be taken immediately to stop climate change (Sargent). How can a small city attempt to solve a global issue such as climate change? Can climate change be solved on an individual level? The answer is yes; a small city can greatly reduce carbon emissions by each individual s choice of clean energy. Climate change has been identified as a terrible threat to all living things on our planet. Cities and individual companies have recognized that coal burning power plants create massive amounts of carbon emissions that contaminate air quality and cause climate change (Sargent). North Carolina has a personal experience with the negative effects of coal burning power. Not only did local coal burning power plants emit massive amounts of carbon emissions into the air but after these coal plants were shut down, millions of tons of coal ash is were behind with no effective plan in place to handle the toxic substance (Henderson). As coal burning power plants are recognized as a leading cause of climate change, other sources of energy have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Essay The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, otherwise known as SNAP, originates from the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1933. It was established in the Great Depression era as the Federal Surplus Relief Corporation when crop prices fell drastically and farms were struggling to deal with the excess supply. The Federal government bought the surplus as discounted prices and distributed them to hunger relief agencies. In 1939 as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt s New Deal program, the FoodStamp Plan was created by Secretary of Agriculture Henry Wallace to formalize the food distribution efforts. Although this initial program ceased in 1943 because of a decrease in the number of people living in poverty, it was reintroduced in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy through a food stamp pilot program. In 1964, the Food Stamp Act was passed by President Lyndon Johnson. This program required the purchase of stamps based on the participant s income level to permit the purchase of low cost nutritional food. After a program revision in 1977 which ended the requirement for participants to purchase stamps, a nutritional educational program called SNAP Education was added to the food stamp program in 1981. This program allowed states to apply for matching funds from the Federal government to deliver nutritioneducation to eligible persons. The first thing we did was get the mass of an empty container by using a scale and it came out to be 16.87g. Next thing we did was pick a substance which in this case it was Potassium Chloride and placed it on the scale to get a total massof 31.20g. The container the Potassium Chloride was in only had a mass of 16.87g which means that the mass of the substance was 14.33g. To convert the mass to the number of moles we took the amount of the substance 14.33g and divided it by the mass of Potassium Chloride 74.55g and figured out that the number of moles was 0.192.... Water is of great significance, since it is used for drinking and in preparing our daily food. Today, there are a lot of concerns about drinking tap waterdue to the fact that it may contain potential toxins; so consequently, many people choose to drink bottled water instead. But there have been increased concerns about the consumption of the bottle of waters as well. The purpose of this research is to identify which water is best to drink and use; and to help people to make the right decision when it comes to the water they are consuming. Purpose Statement: Bottled water, tap water or filtered water: which one to choose? Many people have already elected to drink bottled water or choose to install under sink filtration equipment to avoid the risk of drinking contaminated tab water, and these options do help overcome many of the potential problems of drinking tap water but they are not without a downside. So, how can we be sure that the water we drink is of the highest quality and it has the right properties to hydrate our bodies? What kind of water should we drink? This issue has become increasingly complex in the recent years and it has become a dilemma that most people do have. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Molar equivalence was calculated using the concentration and volumes of amino acid and titrants. A graph was plotted which showed two pH value, one at 1.5 and the other at 0.5. The Toba Eruption was the last of three major eruptions, which occurred over the past million years, creating a volcanic caldera1. The most recent eruption, also known as the Youngest Toba Tuff erupted around 73,000 (В± 4000) years ago2. This created a global catastrophe that effected many species, including humans. Many researchers have linked this even to the most recent bottleneck in human evolution resulting in a dramatic drop in the human population to only about 3,000 to 10,000 in a very short period of time3. 1.2 Definition of Supereruption The term supereruption was introduced after the Toba eruption in 1992 to describe the devastating effects that occurred5. To this date, there is no strict definition however; an eruption that can produce over 300 cubic kilometers of magma would have global consequences and therefore, be considered super 6. The volume of magma that erupted from Toba was much greater than any other eruption previously recorded2. The fragmental deposit from such a large eruption can produce volumes of 1000km3 or greater7. We define culture with our own definitions, and we judge it through our own prejudiced eyes. To accurately define culture, we must take ourselves out of the cultural boundaries we have been accustomed to. Of course, this is impossible. Analyzing The Root Causes Of Risk Mismanagement Analyzing the Root Causes of Risk Mismanagement Introduction According to Kendrick (2009, p. 17), roughly 75 percent of projects fail when project teams refuse to adopt some form of risk monitoring and control. Ken Black (1996), an associate professor of decision sciences, published an article listing twelve factors that contribute to the failure of projects. The article highlighted risks, as one of the factors that can negatively affect project constraints (Black, 1996). A risk, as defined by Kendrick (2009, p. 1), is an event or series of events that occur due to the level of uncertainty associated with the project outcome. If a risk occurs, it threatens the success of a project because it can halt or prolong the project s constraints. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Novice team members mistakenly assume that risks will not occur (Jutte, n.d.). Likewise, novice team members also associate the implementation of risk management with adding extra work to an already time poor schedule without any added benefits (Kendrick, 2009, p. 21). Too, novice team members have no frame of reference for estimating the probability of impact of risk occurrences and may adopt ineffective risk response strategies thereby increasing the impacts of risk occurrences. Unlike novice team members, veteran team members understand the benefits of risk management and draw upon their experience with past projects to mitigate risks (Awati, 2011). However, veteran team members assert their individual perception when proposing approaches to risk management based on their personal experiences (Awati, 2011). According to Awati (2009), subjective judgments such as of illusion of control give veteran team members a false sense of security with the respect to the degree of control they have over minimizing or avoiding a risk. Likewise, groupthink is an example of veteran team members intimidating less experienced colleagues into agreeing with an approach because they present evidence that contradicts their resolution (Awati, 2009). Then, the author further argues that the Office of the Prosecutor must upgrade the gendered prosecutorial strategy already implemented to ensure a gender neutral approach. The elements and the prosecutorial strategy must be modified to include changes that would assure a more faithful depiction of gender dynamics. The authors suggests that the definition of rape in the Rome Statute must include ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Rp2 Research Paper subsection{Wet gas studies} label{sec:Wet gas studies} The water vapor was added to RPC1 gas mixture using a water bubbler as shown in figure~ref{fig:6_Gas_flow_system}. The amount of water vapor in the gas mixture was measured in a controlled way using a RH sensor and is shown in figure~ref{fig:6_Water_vapor_quantity}. Throughout these studies, RPC2 was continued with the standard gas flow itself and was a reference detector. Then, the performances of both the detectors were monitored continuously. The Oscilloscope trace of pulses produced from RPC1 and RPC2 with standard gas operation are shown in figure~ref{fig:5_Oscilloscope_pulses}. • 44. Induced Abortion In The United States The world is full of controversial issues such as abortion, same sex marriage, terrorism, the death penalty, global warming, legalizing marijuana, healthcare, plastic surgery, illiteracy, use of stem cells, and much more. People will continue arguing about these topics. According to studies, it shows that four out of ten American women s pregnancies are terminated by abortion(Induced Abortion in the United States). Sondra Forsyth, a journalist, wrote stories about three teens that got pregnant and their process of making the decision to have an abortion or not. These three young women had to make a difficult decision about whether to get an abortion or to keep their baby. One woman decided to keep her baby and the other two teens decided to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, there is the medical abortion. Medical abortion, sometimes called Mifeprexв„ў,RU 486, is a non surgical abortion done using medication. There are two different methods of medical abortion available: mifepristone followed by misoprostol and methotrexate followed by misoprostol. Mifepristone is a pill that is swallowed by the patient. It interferes with a woman s ability to produce a hormone called progesterone, which is needed for the fetus to grow. MTX or methotrexate is a drug or injection that stops embryonic cell growth and stops from growing outside the uterus. Misoprostol is either swallowed by the patient or placed in the vagina by the doctor. The second type of abortion is surgical abortion, also known as vacuum aspiration. Surgical abortion is when a doctor removes a fetus from the uterus. Ectopic pregnancy is an abnormal pregnancy that grows outside the uterus and is often found in the fallopian tube, and it is very dangerous because it can harm a woman or threaten her future fertility (Abortion: Which Method is Right for Me?). In conclusion, abortion should not be legal, even though abortion may take a burden off the woman s shoulders. Abortion should be illegal because it is the killing of an innocent human being. A baby deserves the right to live. Not only does abortion destroy a human life, but it can also severely affect the mother, mentally, physically, and emotionally. Life is sacred and not meant to be broken. It goes against the sixth commandments, and the landmark case of Roe v. Wade. People should be more responsible for their actions instead of choosing the easy way out of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Extracellular Loop The extracellular loops of GPCRs are important for receptor function. They contribute to protein folding, provide structure to the extracellular region and mediate movement of the TM helices on activation. The second extracellular loop (ECL2) is of significance for ligand binding and receptor activation. In family B (or secretin like) GPCRs, it is the most conserved and often the longest of all the ECLs, and so is in a good position to interact with the endogenous peptide agonists for these receptors and is in a prominent central position to mediate conformational changes 17. Mutations within ECL2 have been shown to affect GLP 1 binding and efficiency, indicating an important role in GLP 1R activation. Interestingly, some mutations... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The structural features of ECL2 and high lipophilicity of TAK 875 (which shows approximately 380 fold preference for lipophilic phase over aqueous phase) suggest that TAK 875 most probably enters the binding pocket of hGPR40 through the lipid bilayer14. Looking at Figure 3, the crystal structure of FFA1 provides a good starting point for understanding ligand docking which predicts the preferred orientation of one molecule to a second molecule when bound to each other to form a stable complex. Although docking of flexible Linoleic acid which is a natural ligand is the least reliable, it helps to generate hypotheses as to how agonistic activity of Linoleic acid could be amplified by synthetic agonists, like TAK 875, at a structural level. For example, targeting Arginines, which are О± amino acids that are used in the biosynthesis of proteins, from the extracellular side by substituting existing water mediated contacts could still leave a possibility of targeting the Arginines from the side involved in interactions with amino acids Tyrosines. The fact that the ligands could have different binding modes and occupy different binding sites at FFA1 can be also seen from a site map search (Schrodinger, LLC, New York, NY, USA 2014b) (Fig. 3, E)11. • 46. Laertes And Ophelia Character Analysis The passing of Laertes and Ophelia s mother influences their self esteem and dependency in outside relationships because it is in these close levels of intimacy that initial unresolved conflicts within the family are reenacted and initiated subconsciously (Tyson 18). However, both exhibit and perform the reenactment of their deepest, hidden feelings about their mothers absence in two different and distinct manners. Furthermore, it is directly verified that when experimented, ...research links parental death to increased emotional reactions and grief process, which in turn links to commitment levels in romantic relationships ; therefore, creating a wide variety of emotion backlash on Laertes and Ophelia to find the one (Anderson 1). When analyzing Laertes liaisons, there are not many secure connections evident in the play as he is depicted almost as a lone wolf like, strong willed, and predominantly independent character. Although, Ophelia exposes his lifestyle in Act I, Scene III, by showing the audience a different side of Laertes after witnessing his so called protective advice to Ophelia: But, good my brother, Do not, as some ungracious pastors do, Show me the steep and thorny way to heaven Whiles, like a puffed and reckless libertine, Himself the primrose path of dalliance treads And recks not his own rede. (50 55) Ophelia s words prove that there more exists within Laertes under the surface than a concerned brother for his sister s heart and virtue. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Descriptive Writing A Beautiful Girl Beautiful Girl Ding dong! The bell rang a couple of times. I got up from bed. After the third time, I went downstairs and peeked through the small hole on the door. There was a man in a gray suit and a package resting on the ground. I opened the door and felt that I had a wild look. He did not even look up and he handed me the clipboard. He muttered about being late to his next route. I took the package from him and he finally looked up at me. When he saw me, he stared at me for quite a while. It was very awkward. I handed him the clipboard and he continued to stare at me. It was getting very creepy. I closed the door and went to my room. I looked through the bedroom to find him walking down the narrow path lined with flowers. He greeted a person wearing a fedora and a long tan coat. I caught the person s face when he looked up at the window. My heart missed a beat as I thought about him seeing me. I thought he could see, but realized that he could not. My heart was beating faster than before. The mysterious person went to the left and the deliveryman went to the right. I closed the blinds and opened the package. I was excited when I saw the teal notebook that I have been trying to look for. It is teal and made out of leather. It is an expensive notebook. My friend had one and she noticed how much I loved journaling. She showed me where to buy it, but they decided to sell it online only. I had the frustrations trying to find the notebook. I finally got the notebook. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
