Phenythiocarbamide
PTC tasting study: a Mendelian trait
FIU genetics lab (BBC)
By: Jordy Alfonso Abstract
Phenythiocarbamide (PTC) is a molecule that binds to the taste receptors in mammals, conveying
different response to bitterness taste. There have been many arguments on whether bitter tasting
phenotype is a Mendelian inherited trait (one gene two alleles) with tasters being dominant for the
trait and non tasters being recessive ,or a product of ongoing polyphonic expressions. For the
following study we provide evidence for TAS2R38 as a bipedal Mendelian inherited trait, and
present a human genetic model for single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping. Since the
ability to taste PTC is dependant on an individual s genetic code, we extracted and amplified ...

This allowed us to sequence an informative region of the TAS2R38. Restriction fragment length
polymorphisms were created using the restriction enzyme HaeIII. Gel electrophoresis of the
amplified and cut DNA segments provided us with a genotype associated with each phenotype.
Introduction
Since 1931, the accidental discovery of PTC has led to one of the greatest scientific debate of all
time. Arthur Fox prepared a sample of PTC to do an experiment, meanwhile some of his
colleagues complained of the bitter taste of substance in the air. Fox himself could not taste taste
the substance in the air and decided to directly taste the substance. An argument arose, as he still
could not taste or feel anything and more of Fox s co workers were brought in to settle the
argument. The result was that some individuals could taste PTC while others could

Commercial Property Disadvantages
Disadvantages of commercial property 1.Commercial property is susceptible to economic
downturns. 2.The underlying costs may be high. 3.Commercial property can be tough to sell
when values are declining, even when a fund is used. 4.Portfolio use 5.Due to the probable
difficulty in selling commercial property holdings, commercial property is best used to expand
your portfolio instead of as a core portfolio holding. Return expectations from commercial
property There are two possible sources of investment return when it comes to commercial
property. These are: 1.Capital growth: Capital growth refers basically to increases in the value
of property. Capital growth has a tendency to be helpful in times of good financial growth; this
can be uninteresting when growth is slow and damaging in downturns. Just as economic
forecasting has a tendency to be a particularly undependable science, property price forecasting is
likely to be unreliable and pose great differences of opinion. Gains and losses are to be expected,
but may in the end even them out. 2.Rental yield: In due course, rental profit is likely to be a
grander contributor to profits than capital growth, along with being significantly more dependable.
In times when rental yields are great in comparison to government bond yields, it could be wise
time to invest in commercial property. In Ireland and the UK, leases have a tendency to be long,
normally for 10 or more years at the beginning. This means that the rental

Is Liberal Internationalism Utopian, Or Does It Offer A...
PIED 1511 International Politics Is Liberal internationalism utopian , or does it offer a credible
alternative to Realism? Word count: 2,913 Seminar Tutor: Khalina Zhekova Liberal
internationalism by its very essence is the idea of peaceful co operation in order to maintain
both world order and create harmony for its state to live in by democratic means. In R Gardner s
The Comeback of Liberal Internationalisms he defines this by very similar means, suggesting this
political tradition relies on the necessity of leadership by political democracies . Following the
onset of the 20th century the international political sphere has been characterised by the creations
of institutions which have sought to establish a democratic peace and in many ways often failing
to do so. The inability to prevent some of the most violent conflicts of the last 120 years is perhaps
central to the critique that liberal internationalism should be deemed as far too idealistic in a
modern world. In an increasingly familiar landscape of tyrannical, dangerous leaders it is perhaps
unsurprising that the realist school of thought has come to dominate academic analysis of the
current world situation. It would be hard to disagree with the notion that liberal internationalism is
simply not the solution for the problems which still exist within the world today when you consider
the level of ideological disagreement which is consistently played out upon the world stage. While

Hispanics do come through the system but not as much as blacks juveniles, with a small number
of kids that are Caucasian and other races. Blacks and Hispanics usually can t afford a private
attorney like the Caucasian kids and other races, and usually have to end up with a public defender
unless it is a high profile case and a private attorney comes in.
According to Juvenile Courts, a juvenile is classified into three different groups. The first group is
considered a Delinquent. A Delinquent is a person who is under age (usually below 18), who is
found to have committed a crime in states that have declared by law that a minor lacks
responsibility and thus may not be sentenced as an adult (Legal Dictionary). Another term a
juvenile can be referred to be a status offender. A status offender is a juvenile charged with or
adjudicated for conduct that would not, under the law of the jurisdiction in which the offense was
committed, be a crime if committed by an adult (Act 4 Juvenile Justice). Finally a Juvenile can be
identified as a dependent and neglected child. These are usually youth that are deprived and in
need of support and supervision (Cliff Notes)

juveniles because they do not want a stigma to be placed on them as they grow up. Some youth s

Developing And Managing Offerings Process
DEVELOPING AND MANAGING OFFERINGS The seven steps in the offering development
process are idea generation, idea screening, features specification, development, testing,
marketing and evaluation. THE ACTIVITIES INVOLVED: 1. Idea generation This is the first
stage and it is easy and less expensive to generate, but the most expensive part of this is making
it a reality. The activities involved are carrying out a research using SWOT analysis (Strength,
Weakness, Opportunities and Threat), focus group and corporate spies to get an idea into
developing a new product. Creating the idea and gathering information from customers by
watching and listening to them is another activity involved in idea generation and determine if
the offering is worth pursuing. The idea can come from anywhere; it could be from employee,
customers, suppliers, competitors and distributors. 2. Idea screening This is the second stage in
the offering development process. At this stage, the idea created, gathered and about to be
developed is looked into properly to determine if: i. it will add value to customer, ii. it will it
meet the need of the customers, iii. it will it be ready, the quantity and the price to sell to the
market iv. it is within the budget of the company; v. the company will make a profit and how much.
The organisation must be able to assess that the offering looks and work right (investment risk) and
fit for the purpose (opportunity risk) and if not, the idea needs

News On Foreign News And Its Impact On Society s View On...
Thinking of a question related to news was difficult because I am a journalism major and news is
a hot topic within my major. News is a very broad statement and can mean many different things. It
also brings all kinds of questions to mind. Originally I went with a broad question that later turned
into a very specific topic making the researchmuch easier. My first question was, How does news
based in the United States effect societies views on other countries? How does foreign news affect
their societies view on the United States? By trying to find simple research on this through the
MU Library, I was quick to find that in order to write a successful research paper it is vital to
have a more specific question to get the answers you want. I was not finding specific research that
included specific information on foreign news and its societal affects.
After some struggles, one article popped out to me about news on foreign countries and their
economy so I decided to look at how the positive and negative news written about a foreign
country later effects that economy. My question then became, How does an article written in a
specific country affect the economy of a foreign nation? For example, if a news program based in
the United States were to write an article about China, how would that article truly affect the
economy of China. It has been seen that news can change the perspective of the way people see
the world and all that goes on among the economic leaders. By

Taking An Abnormal Psychology Class
Taking an abnormal psychology class is not part of my requirements for my degree, but with my
wanting to work with children and their families, I feel that this course was beneficial for me to
take. I also enjoy learning about how the human mind works, the different disorders, and ways to
help people that may be suffering from the many disorders that we covered. As I have mentioned
throughout the semester, I or someone I know has or is suffering from many of the disorders we
have discussed. I personally have struggled with addiction and bulimia in my past, and I feel that
learning more in depth can assist me in my future if I have a student that also struggles with
similar disorders. My father suffers from schizophrenia, although he attempts to block his
disorder out and refuses medication. This can be extremely hard for both me and my child to
visit him because he is different. I try to remember that the disorder is not his fault and I also try
to remind my daughter that he is her grandfather and she should accept him, but it is a struggle
for both of us. I feel that learning a little more on schizophrenia was helpful for me and I plan on
doing a little more research on my own time to also help me to cope with his differentness .
There was such a variety of topics covered in this course and I wish that I had taken it in a
classroom instead of online. With this online course, I feel like the material went a little too
quickly. If I were in a classroom setting, I feel that

Presentational Devices in Chicken Run Essay
Presentational Devices in Chicken Run
Chicken Run is an animated film about a group of chickens trying to escape from a chicken farm.
The film is a spoof of the film The Great Escape and as with that film there are characters, who
represent good and characters who represent evil. In Chicken Run, the character that represents
good is the chicken, Ginger. The chicken farm owner, Mrs. Tweedie, portrays evil.
The film makers of Chicken Run have used presentational devices to give us clues about each
character. They use camera angles, setting, costume, lighting, music, sound effects, body language
and facial expressions to portray a character as good or evil. I will personally concentrate on ...

As with most war films the prisoners design escape plans. Chicken Run, is no different, with the
chickens designing numerous plans to escape, with little success. Many war films also have
victims in them. Chicken Run also has a convention for this, with Edwina the chicken being
decapitated by the villain Mrs. Tweedie. Finally, the last convention I will mention is the roll call.
In war films the prisoners are often told to line up for inspection, and Chicken Run adapts this, in
the way the chickens have to line up to have their eggs inspected.
Moving away conventions of war films, the film also has conventions of everyday household
objects. The chickens use screw drivers, hammers, and many other tools for building their
contraptions which they use in their attempt to escape from the farm. Another thing would be the
fact that the chickens dress much like humans do. For example the chicken, Ginger wears a hat, and
the rooster on the farm a scarf. Both these conventions serve, to make the viewers feel more familiar
with the chickens and therefore relate to them.
Now, moving onto the question. I will begin with how the film makers use different camera shots
to portray Ginger as a good character and Mrs. Tweedie as an evil one. However, I will first
describe the different camera shots. Beginning with the close up. This camera shot is, as the name
implies, a close up of, usually,

Discover Your True North
Can Discover Your True North Truly Develop an Authentic Leader? Most people, at some point
in time, have desired to assume a position of leadership, in any form or capacity; however, few
truly know how to go about it. There are many resources and books to educate someone about
leadership, but this evaluation will be on a specific book, Discover Your True North, which is
considered by many to be the ultimate book for learning to lead authentically. Bill George, author of
Discover Your True North, wishes to equip leaders with strategies and principles to become
authentic leaders. Authentic leadershipcan be defined as when a person leads with intent, considers
the success of the entire team and initiative, dedicates appropriate time to all facets of life, and
leads with integrity. Discover Your True North is a superb example of a leadership book that
equips people with the principles, and necessary skills, to become more authentic and proficient
leaders. This book also helps the reader identify their optimal operating role in the workplace; as
well as employing the opinions and personal stories of countless top CEO s, so as to further
inform the reader of successful leadership strategies. Discover Your True North equips people with

because it supplies practical and situational advice (which has been found to work by many
professionals) that can have measurable success, unlike many other

Education. A policy of holding schools and teachers accountable for student s academic progress
by linking progress with funding for salaries, maintenance, etc. Now you may ask yourself What
kind of fucking vague ass definition is this? at least I did when I read it. Let me transmute this into

In case of something happening spontaneously and you don t have a clue where your weapon or

the Army expects to know where its equipment and property is. No matter what, someone is
always responsible for equipment in the Army. It goes to the highest officer to the lowest enlisted
personal in the chain of command and back up again. Like in combat when there is a code Red the
soldier knows that at a given and safe(safe as possible at least) time he or she should get to the
rally point predetermined by his or her chain of command, that way he or she and his or her
equipment can be accounted for. Accountability is used in many different ways, for example
knowing if something is missing you could easy look at the accountability report to see if it was
there before.
Morning formation is the most important formation of the day. It is made to get accountability of
everyone and put out any information that there needs to be dealt with. Without having
accountability there is not knowing of where everybody is or what s going on. As a result of me

Romance Essay
Romance is something that should never end. Romance brings love, happiness, and a joyful life.
One of the true definitions of romance is, an emotional attraction or aura belonging to an
especially heroic era, adventure, or activity (Romance, n.d.). However, when someone thinks of
romance they can see how much of a concept it is. It could be different for everyone because not
everyone s definition of romanceor romantic activity is the same. For a man named Jim, it could
be him offering his arm to a woman when they are walking. Yet, on the other hand, for a random
girl named Emily, it could be having the man walk on the streetside of the sidewalk so he could
protect her. Romancestarted centuries ago and is not going to end anytime soon.... Show more

Nevertheless, the idea of romance did not just pop up like a jack in the box. The origins of the
modern celebration lie in the 18th century with the rise of romantic marriages. Writer, Elizabeth L.
Maurer (2017), from Nationals Women s History Museum had stated that During the 18th century,
society encouraged young people to select their marriage partners based on their romantic
attachments. This was a decided change from past practice when marriages had been
arranged...between families or clans. So the young people at that point had to figure out what they
liked and what they did not like in a spouse, it was all left up to them. Maurer (2017), also
discussed how romance had fit in on this new practice:
Prospective lovers needed to find one another and then determine the extent of mutual attraction.
Courtship became a distinctive phase of partner selection, and familiar rituals evolved. Young
women, perhaps more than young men, often enjoyed the process of courtship as it represented a
time of freedom and choice.
The men really had to come with the best of the best because the women now had the option to
reject them. The men had to think of ways to show their interest, bringing them flowers from the
garden, taking them out to dinner on a Friday night, or even taking off their hat when they were
talking to the lady. They either had to teach themselves based on what the woman they were trying
to pursue, or their father

The Jewish culture has a tradition called a Bar and Bat mitzvah. This tradition is to signify that a
boy and a girl are old enough to be called a woman or a man. Also, this will give responsibility to
the soon to be man or woman. Having a Bar or Bat mitzvah shows that the boy or girl can be

which are food, clothing and marital relations. A traditional Jewish wedding ceremony takes place

Angel Of Death Monologue
The humming was increasing in intensity when the first tentative wave of the fog arrived at our

My Interest In Soccer
My interest in soccer as a child began when I was knocked down by a soccer ball at the age of
eleven. Ever since that day I started following my dad to watch him play soccer with his friends.
He was the talk of many of his friends, because of his talent and skills behind the ball. I began to
develop the interest for soccer without realizing it, some few months after, I decided to join the
school soccer team. I remember working very hard every evening after school, just to prepare
myself for the school teams try out. Eventually my hard work paid off. I was selected as part of
the starting eleven for the first soccer game. I remember vividly, seeing my number one fan my
dad, cheering me on from the sideline. My dad gave so much of his time to see my dream come
true and I was so appreciative to have such a caring parent. Playing soccer was one of the best
moment in my life. So, I decided to put my all in the game of soccer, practice after practice made
me perfect in the field of soccer, I developed my own skills and it helped since I was working
very hard on the pitch. I always had that feeling that when it came to soccer I was the best no
matter what. This feeling started when I realized that no matter how hard my team mates trained,
they still could not match up with me. All was well with my soccer career until my seventh year in
school when we had to playagainst a neighboring school. Being the best the player on my team, it

Culture has a significant influence on groups of individuals, it refers to patterns of human

What are some of the unique aspects of the police culture? How do they impact the police role?
Working as a police officer is associated with a lot of stress and tension. Officers encounter
countless dangers on the job and have a lot of pressure put on them to fairly serve and protect
communities. All these aspects of police work shape police subculture and how officers use their
powers. Typically, police culture is associated with cynicism, social isolation, and secrecy. Police

The setting was warm and soothing. The veterans office has a very friendly environment and had
a welcoming feel to it. The that fact the office is very colorful and plays relaxing music is a perfect
second home for students who want to come in and relax and for those who are as well a veteran or
has a connection with them. Also the VA office adds to the second home feel with the mini
kitchen they have in the corner of the office with a microwave and fridge stocked with drinks,
allowing anyone use of the microwave and drinks in the fridge. The way the people who work and
use the veteran s office is very blunt and upfront. The male in the office especially are blunt and do
not care what they say, when not just talking to their peers but also talking to students looking for
help. The differences came in the proportion of talk on stereotypically gendered topics. Women
reported discussing personal problems, doubts, and fears, family problems, and intimate
relationships more than men, while men reported discussing sports more than women. 1 The
males and females differed in speech acts as most of the men talked about sports while most of
the women talked about their families. As someone who had a meeting in the VA office with a

Introduction
The first time fingerprint comparison evidence was used in court against a defendant was in 1892
in Argentina [1]
For purposes of forensic identification in cases of law enforcement and other areas where human
identification is needed, fingerprints have been widely acclaimed to be of an invaluable
importance and has therefore seen a close to unanimous acceptance as the gold standard of forensic
evidence where biometric identity is concerned. Recently however, as was rarely done in times
past, the scientific foundations of fingerprint expert testimonies in court are beginning to be
challenged [2]. There are some commentators who now query the scientific validity of forensic
fingerprint identification. Reference has been made to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These methods hopefully can be used to introduce some quantitative statistical measures to the
fingerprint evidence.
Before going into comparing both proposed statistical approaches, it would seem appropriate to
take a brief look at the ACE V method of fingerprint evidence analysis in the next section, to
highlight areas where these proposed methods have advantages over it.
2.A brief description of the ACE V Method
In ACE V, A stands for Analysis, C stands for Comparison, E represents Evaluation and V is for
Verification. These are the various stages involved in the examination of fingerprint evidence by
experts in the field before arriving at a conclusion on a set of prints which can be in any of these
three conclusions viz: Exclusion, Individuation, or Inconclusive.
2.1The Analysis stage
This stage begins when the fingerprint expert examines a latent print and first makes a decision as
to whether it contains details that are sufficient quantitatively and qualitatively to exceed the Value
threshold standard. If in his estimation the print does exceed the quality and quantity Value
standard, then he continues with the analysis.[1] According to [4], most of the prints recovered
from crime scenes are considered of no value.
2.2The Comparison stage.
The fingerprint expert for the first time looks at the suspect s 10 fingerprints (the exemplar

Essay On High School Dropouts
Every twenty six seconds a student drops out of high school and every day 7,200 students drop
out of high school in the United States. Which unfortunately leads to 3,03,000 students dropping
out of high school in the United States each year. Teenagers dropping out of high school has been
a widely discussed topic in America, with people debating whether high schoolers should be
required to stay in school until they are eighteen. As president, Barack Obama, made efforts to
lower the number of dropouts, by creating new laws that encourage students to finish school and
graduate, earning their diploma. Earning your diploma will allow you to use prior knowledge to
create educated decisions, fret from the number of risks that dropping out may result in, and will
open the doors to a world full of opportunity. At the end of 2015, the total dropout rate was 5.9%,
which suggests that our country should strive to lower the number of dropouts, by requiring
students to receive their high schooldiplomas.
Requirements of a successful adulthood include the abilities: problem solving, responsibility, and
independence. Since the requirements are learned at school, they are able to take the skills with
them throughout the rest of their lives. School challenges students in classes, such as science, to
form hypotheses. When they make the hypotheses, high schoolers use their prior knowledge and
research to assist them in creating the most educated hypothesis. In result, students gain the

I m Chief Operating Officer for a venture fund. Working with new businesses (startups) for years, I
ve noticed an odd thing. When I see startup teams for the first time, their eyes are shining, their
enthusiasm is sparkling, and they show enormous productivity. And...they re desperate for money,
of course. They ground their financial needs and we see that without investments they can t move
further. Investors believe in their idea and business model, and everybody admires their inspiration.
What happens when moneyare already given to those startups? We observe dramatic decrease in
efforts and productivity. Deadlines set before are not met. Product s time to market exceeds all the
deadlines. Enthusiasm is gradually being replaced by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, after receiving funds, startup teams have lost their interest to their business started
initially as a hobby. But how can this happen? Teams get money (=resource and awards), so after
signing investment contract productivity should increase, as investors expect?
Unfortunately, even there s a short peak of productivity, it often goes down soon. Like in
experiment with gift and no gift tasks held by Gneezy, effort and productivity increases for a short
time, then it wanes quickly.
What if investors trying to minimize their risks are giving very little funds, exactly as much as
business support requires but not more? Experiments by Heyman amp; Ariely (2004) found that
low monetary payment decreases effort relative to no payment.
To my opinion, the key reasons of change in behavior are the following: 1) funds given are
adding market factor to the team s activity, 2) people don t have a fear to loose investors funds
(they burn that money before the business will be considered as success or failure), 3) they don t
have a feeling of social attachment and personal responsibility and perceive investor as a person
on the other side of barricade .
What we can do to reduce an impact of this problem? First of all, investors should try to build long
term close relationship with the CEO and the team prior signing a contract and maintain this
relationship further, creating a feeling that

procedures are vital to establish the prosperity of any construction project. Determining the
desideratum for the project, analyzing requisites for equipment, space and personnel, and budgeting
for the project are obligatory steps (DA, 2016). They are followed by scheduling and designing the
miscellaneous aspects of the project. With rapid change in diagnostic imaging technology, there are
continuous changing demand in the field of radiological diagnosis and imaging service. Resulting

a subcategory of folklore, intended for children, featuring unnatural creatures and/or requiring use

A Closer Look At Autonomous Vehicles Essay
A Closer Look at Autonomous Vehicles Many great technological feats have been accomplished
in the past few years, one of the most notable would be the creation of self driving cars. Along
with the topic of what can be done with this technology, there is also the topic of what should be
done with the technology from an ethical standpoint. Self driving cars while not perfected are
worth their innumerous benefits, despite the current limitations and drawbacks. Every year there
are numerous incidents where the driver is responsible for a crash or even death. A self driving
car could be the very solution necessary to solving the abundance of accidents that occur daily
across the nation. There are different levels of automation ranging on the amount of the drivers
control of the vehicles. This technology is already being implemented in creative and helpful
ways, and has been successfully tested. Self driving cars are something that s new, it s something
that has only just been implemented in the past few years, and will be continually implemented
and improved upon. Currently autonomous cars are limited to actions such as parallel parking,
brake assist, and lane detection. In the near future experts are predicting fully autonomous self
driving cars with little to no human interaction. Currently self driving vehicles are described from
levels 0 4, 0 being no automated assistance, to level 4 where the car can perform all
safety‐critical driving functions and monitor roadway

deciding who is a real friend, fake friend, or who an acquaintance is can be difficult and tricky.
The differences between these groups can be hard to recognize. The differences between these
groups are the slightest from words they say, to the actions and the habits that they have. The
first group that I will explain is real friends. This is the most interesting group because this group
usually isn t recognized for who they are. Real friends help us with patients and teach us to love
and care without being told to. Real friends can be kind but also can be straight forward without
making the criticism sound too harsh which usually upsets many people. The criticism that real
friends say help us change our actions to make us a better person. Real friends always want each
other to do better to reach our goals in life and to pursue our dreams. Real friends will help each
other through the roughest times in life to pick up from where they left off. They push each other
without competing for who is the most successful instead, they push each other to see what can be

Analysis Of The NovelAll Quiet On The Western Front, By...
People such as Erich Maria Remarque help people like me, someone who has not served
acknowledge the brutal and breathtaking memories that he hasn t lived but wants to learn about. In
Erich Maria Remarque s landmark war novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, illustrates how war
is hell on the soldiers who served in World War 1. The Novel, Paul Baumer, is a foot soldier
fighting for the German Army; he shares a first hand account of the wars atrocities on himself and
his comrades in arms. In the novel, All Quiet on the Western Frontby Erich Maria Remarque, the
author reveals the innocent yet destructive war experience between the main characters of the
story. Paul and his relationship to the first industrialized world war between Germany and others
through the use of a variety of literary elements including irony to emphasize the impact of war on
young gentlemen as well as employing imagery or writing that appeals to readers senses to
illustrate how war changes the boys into men of lost generation.
Erich Maria Remarque conceptualizes the morbid imagery of war in order to teach the readers
how war is vile and putrid. While in war you can see the guts and gore from some of your
friends, but some of the animals that are used in war. The belly of the horse was ripped open
and the guts trail out (Remarque 63). During battle the warriors endured scary sights. War noises
are scary and lingering in the mind. The screaming of the beast becomes louder (Remarque 63).
When in battle you don t know what you will face next. The forest was burnt down but the
soldiers looked at the positive side and noticed it still smelled good. They still smell of resin and
pine (Sobel). The soldiers sometimes used small things like these to make them more confident.
Erich Maria Remarque uses imagery to show the readers how brutal war is.
Remarque s novel All Quiet on the Western Front reveals the true feelings about the war and its
effects on those warriors. Men while in the front lines when receiving fire get a different feeling
and everyone reacts differently. Men revert to animal instincts when under fire (Remarque 131).
This suggests when facing life or death people will do whatever it takes to live. Warriors during

The PEST factor that has contributed to the airlines industry for many years, but has brought a

Political environment concerns the role of the government and its affects in an organisation it also

has lost put, as many people are scared to fly into America, and therefore the demand is low to
travel, however the supply is high, this could be a dangerous factor for the small airline companies
that do not have enough funding in the first place, now they are literally on the verge of bankruptcy.
Social environment is of great importance when being applied to different organisations, in case the
airline industry. The short term affect that the social factor has on the airline industry is that, people
have cut down on using flying as a mean of travel after the
September 11th incident. Many of the flights have been cancelled from
America, this resulting to financial difficulties for British Airways.
The long term affect that is going to have is that if there are not as many passengers, then the
amount of staff that the companies have hired are no longer needed. However there are some
people that have not been affected by the September 11th incident, many people have taken this as
an advantage, of cheaper tickets. This however is a short term affect, due to as soon as

The way you look at someone can communicate many things, including interest, affection, hostility,

gauging the other person s response. Gestures are woven into the fabric of our daily lives. We
wave, point, beckon, and use our hands when we re arguing or speaking animatedly expressing
ourselves with gestures often without thinking. However, the meaning of gestures can be very
different across cultures and regions, so it s important to be careful to avoid misinterpretation. For
example, in American culture agreement might be indicated by the head going up and down,
whereas in India, a side to side head movement might mean the same thing. We also look to
posture to provide cues about the communicator; posture can indicate self confidence,
aggressiveness, fear, guilt, or anxiety. Consider how your perceptions of people are affected by the
way they sit, walk, stand up, or hold their head. The way you move and carry yourself

One is the adequacy of the research itself. In view of the extent of the research, and the high
proportion of negative п¬Ѓndings, this seems unlikely to be fruitful. I will deal with it here
cursorily. Another is the appropriateness of the research to the nature of the theory. In this respect
I argue that it is the sort of theory which is not easily amenable to crucial test, as Wahba and

The Relationship Between Height And Diameter Of Limpet
The relationship between height and diameter of Limpet (Patella vulgata) shells and whether it
differs between exposed and sheltered environments Abstract Limpets (Patella vulgate) live in
algae rich environments on rocky shores. . It has been proposed that in more sheltered areas,
limpet shells will grow to be flatter with a larger diameter, while in more exposed areas of
coastline, they will grow a taller and narrower shell shape. To find out whether or not the shores
of Aberdeen reflected this, samples were taken from two sites (Site A and Site B) along the
Aberdeen coastline that varied in their exposure to wave action. The sites were chosen to
provide two sample sites with a notable difference in their environment. In the more sheltered
site A, limpets were not exposed to harsh waves, while at site B, there was significantly more
wave action. Quadrats were used at both sites to provide an area of sampling for the limpets and
they were placed around 5 meters from the waterline. The overall results from the study showed
that there is a very strong relationship between diameter and height in Limpet shells and that there
was an incredibly slight difference in the relationship between the two sites. 1.Introduction
Limpets (Patella vulgate) live in algae rich environments on rocky shores. They feed on the algae
and try to defend areas where algae grow against other limpets and other species that are competing
for the food source (e.g barnacles and mussels). Limpet shells

Joe Sacco s On Satire
How and why is a social group represented in a particular way?
The cartoonists are the main social group portrayed in the cartoon On Satire by Joe Sacco, which
is published in The Guardian. On Satire portrays other cartoonists as obnoxious, insensitive
cavemen who often cross the line between satire and just outright offensive mockery of the
religious beliefs of Muslims. The purpose of the cartoon is to ridicule the black and white way of
representation of all Muslims as terrorists. Also he is aiming to get cartoonists to convince
governments and news outlets to consider ways in which to stop terrorism by understanding why
terrorism exists instead of just eradicating all Muslims and hoping that terrorism dies with them.
The cartoon depicts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are attempting to appeal to Logos, the logical side in the readers, and Pathos, the
emotional side or more specifically ability to empathize, respectively. Many cartoonists make
satires and ironic cartoons that are meant to bring something important to the artists into public
knowledge, and some just want to poke fun at some habits or traditions of other cultures and
religion. However there are those who take it too far, which is where Logos comes in. Most
readers, at least the ones the cartoons are not ridiculing, find it very easy to just laugh off an
offensive joke, but as demonstrated by Sacco, it s very easy to cross the line between a harmless,
informative joke and a borderline cruel mockery of something that is important or sacred to others.
Pathos, on the other hand, is used to appeal to the emotional side of readers by asking them to
empathize with the Jews that have been persecuted, as some believe, for simply been more
successful during a time of high rates of unemployment. Sacco obviously wants us to see that in the
right context almost anything can be hurtful. The statement When we draw a line, we are often
crossing one too reinforces that

Fukushima Nuclear Disaster Research Paper
Prevent Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant Disaster
The most extreme way to produce power is by nuclear fission. They do this by splitting single
atoms, Nuclear Energy Institute states ?Nuclear power plants obtain the heat needed to produce
steam through a physical process. This process, called fission, entails the splitting of atoms of
uranium in a nuclear reactor. The uranium fuel consists of small, hard ceramic pellets that are
packaged in long, vertical tubes. Bundles of this fuel are inserted into the reactor.? Power
produced this way also has drawbacks. Producing this kind of power also produces an extreme
amount of heat. If the cooling system loses power the reactor temperature rises dangerously high
which will then release radiation, causing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reactor was overheating to the point it was emitting radioactive material. The Tokyo Energy
Power Company admitted that they failed to inspect thirty three cooling system equipment for the
six reactors about two weeks before the disaster (NYTimes.com).
The inspection was to see if the Tokyo Energy Power Company could extend the life of the reactors
or to shut them down, which the reactors failed the inspection, but the TEPCO decided to extend
the lives of the reactors according to the NY Times. The NY times also stated ?regulators said that
?maintenance management was inadequate? and that the ?quality of inspection was insufficient??
(nytimes.com).
The reactors one, two, and three were outdated and soon the rest of the reactors will be outdated.
NY Times talks about how the nuclear operators are deciding whether or not to expand the life of
the reactors since they are almost to the forty year statutory limit. All of the 18 reactors, which
includes the five at Fukushima and 13 more in Japan will turn forty years old in the next ten years

  • 2. Phenythiocarbamide PTC tasting study: a Mendelian trait FIU genetics lab (BBC) By: Jordy Alfonso Abstract Phenythiocarbamide (PTC) is a molecule that binds to the taste receptors in mammals, conveying different response to bitterness taste. There have been many arguments on whether bitter tasting phenotype is a Mendelian inherited trait (one gene two alleles) with tasters being dominant for the trait and non tasters being recessive ,or a product of ongoing polyphonic expressions. For the following study we provide evidence for TAS2R38 as a bipedal Mendelian inherited trait, and present a human genetic model for single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping. Since the ability to taste PTC is dependant on an individual s genetic code, we extracted and amplified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This allowed us to sequence an informative region of the TAS2R38. Restriction fragment length polymorphisms were created using the restriction enzyme HaeIII. Gel electrophoresis of the amplified and cut DNA segments provided us with a genotype associated with each phenotype. Introduction Since 1931, the accidental discovery of PTC has led to one of the greatest scientific debate of all time. Arthur Fox prepared a sample of PTC to do an experiment, meanwhile some of his colleagues complained of the bitter taste of substance in the air. Fox himself could not taste taste the substance in the air and decided to directly taste the substance. An argument arose, as he still could not taste or feel anything and more of Fox s co workers were brought in to settle the argument. The result was that some individuals could taste PTC while others could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Commercial Property Disadvantages Disadvantages of commercial property 1.Commercial property is susceptible to economic downturns. 2.The underlying costs may be high. 3.Commercial property can be tough to sell when values are declining, even when a fund is used. 4.Portfolio use 5.Due to the probable difficulty in selling commercial property holdings, commercial property is best used to expand your portfolio instead of as a core portfolio holding. Return expectations from commercial property There are two possible sources of investment return when it comes to commercial property. These are: 1.Capital growth: Capital growth refers basically to increases in the value of property. Capital growth has a tendency to be helpful in times of good financial growth; this can be uninteresting when growth is slow and damaging in downturns. Just as economic forecasting has a tendency to be a particularly undependable science, property price forecasting is likely to be unreliable and pose great differences of opinion. Gains and losses are to be expected, but may in the end even them out. 2.Rental yield: In due course, rental profit is likely to be a grander contributor to profits than capital growth, along with being significantly more dependable. In times when rental yields are great in comparison to government bond yields, it could be wise time to invest in commercial property. In Ireland and the UK, leases have a tendency to be long, normally for 10 or more years at the beginning. This means that the rental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Is Liberal Internationalism Utopian, Or Does It Offer A... PIED 1511 International Politics Is Liberal internationalism utopian , or does it offer a credible alternative to Realism? Word count: 2,913 Seminar Tutor: Khalina Zhekova Liberal internationalism by its very essence is the idea of peaceful co operation in order to maintain both world order and create harmony for its state to live in by democratic means. In R Gardner s The Comeback of Liberal Internationalisms he defines this by very similar means, suggesting this political tradition relies on the necessity of leadership by political democracies . Following the onset of the 20th century the international political sphere has been characterised by the creations of institutions which have sought to establish a democratic peace and in many ways often failing to do so. The inability to prevent some of the most violent conflicts of the last 120 years is perhaps central to the critique that liberal internationalism should be deemed as far too idealistic in a modern world. In an increasingly familiar landscape of tyrannical, dangerous leaders it is perhaps unsurprising that the realist school of thought has come to dominate academic analysis of the current world situation. It would be hard to disagree with the notion that liberal internationalism is simply not the solution for the problems which still exist within the world today when you consider the level of ideological disagreement which is consistently played out upon the world stage. While all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Developing And Managing Offerings Process DEVELOPING AND MANAGING OFFERINGS The seven steps in the offering development process are idea generation, idea screening, features specification, development, testing, marketing and evaluation. THE ACTIVITIES INVOLVED: 1. Idea generation This is the first stage and it is easy and less expensive to generate, but the most expensive part of this is making it a reality. The activities involved are carrying out a research using SWOT analysis (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threat), focus group and corporate spies to get an idea into developing a new product. Creating the idea and gathering information from customers by watching and listening to them is another activity involved in idea generation and determine if the offering is worth pursuing. At this stage, the idea created, gathered and about to be developed is looked into properly to determine if: i. it will add value to customer, ii. it will it meet the need of the customers, iii. it will it be ready, the quantity and the price to sell to the market iv. it is within the budget of the company; v. the company will make a profit and how much. • 9. News On Foreign News And Its Impact On Society s View On... Thinking of a question related to news was difficult because I am a journalism major and news is a hot topic within my major. News is a very broad statement and can mean many different things. It also brings all kinds of questions to mind. Originally I went with a broad question that later turned into a very specific topic making the researchmuch easier. My first question was, How does news based in the United States effect societies views on other countries? How does foreign news affect their societies view on the United States? By trying to find simple research on this through the MU Library, I was quick to find that in order to write a successful research paper it is vital to have a more specific question to get the answers you want. I was not finding specific research that included specific information on foreign news and its societal affects. After some struggles, one article popped out to me about news on foreign countries and their economy so I decided to look at how the positive and negative news written about a foreign country later effects that economy. My question then became, How does an article written in a specific country affect the economy of a foreign nation? For example, if a news program based in the United States were to write an article about China, how would that article truly affect the economy of China. It has been seen that news can change the perspective of the way people see the world and all that goes on among the economic leaders. By ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I also enjoy learning about how the human mind works, the different disorders, and ways to help people that may be suffering from the many disorders that we covered. As I have mentioned throughout the semester, I or someone I know has or is suffering from many of the disorders we have discussed. I personally have struggled with addiction and bulimia in my past, and I feel that learning more in depth can assist me in my future if I have a student that also struggles with similar disorders. I try to remember that the disorder is not his fault and I also try to remind my daughter that he is her grandfather and she should accept him, but it is a struggle for both of us. I feel that learning a little more on schizophrenia was helpful for me and I plan on doing a little more research on my own time to also help me to cope with his differentness . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As with most war films the prisoners design escape plans. Chicken Run, is no different, with the chickens designing numerous plans to escape, with little success. Many war films also have victims in them. Chicken Run also has a convention for this, with Edwina the chicken being decapitated by the villain Mrs. Tweedie. Finally, the last convention I will mention is the roll call. In war films the prisoners are often told to line up for inspection, and Chicken Run adapts this, in the way the chickens have to line up to have their eggs inspected. Moving away conventions of war films, the film also has conventions of everyday household objects. The chickens use screw drivers, hammers, and many other tools for building their contraptions which they use in their attempt to escape from the farm. Another thing would be the fact that the chickens dress much like humans do. For example the chicken, Ginger wears a hat, and the rooster on the farm a scarf. Both these conventions serve, to make the viewers feel more familiar with the chickens and therefore relate to them. Now, moving onto the question. I will begin with how the film makers use different camera shots to portray Ginger as a good character and Mrs. Tweedie as an evil one. However, I will first describe the different camera shots. The origins of the modern celebration lie in the 18th century with the rise of romantic marriages. Writer, Elizabeth L. Maurer (2017), from Nationals Women s History Museum had stated that During the 18th century, society encouraged young people to select their marriage partners based on their romantic attachments. This was a decided change from past practice when marriages had been arranged...between families or clans. So the young people at that point had to figure out what they liked and what they did not like in a spouse, it was all left up to them. Maurer (2017), also discussed how romance had fit in on this new practice: Prospective lovers needed to find one another and then determine the extent of mutual attraction. Courtship became a distinctive phase of partner selection, and familiar rituals evolved. Young women, perhaps more than young men, often enjoyed the process of courtship as it represented a time of freedom and choice. The men really had to come with the best of the best because the women now had the option to reject them. The men had to think of ways to show their interest, bringing them flowers from the garden, taking them out to dinner on a Friday night, or even taking off their hat when they were talking to the lady. The Relationship Between Height And Diameter Of Limpet The relationship between height and diameter of Limpet (Patella vulgata) shells and whether it differs between exposed and sheltered environments Abstract Limpets (Patella vulgate) live in algae rich environments on rocky shores. . It has been proposed that in more sheltered areas, limpet shells will grow to be flatter with a larger diameter, while in more exposed areas of coastline, they will grow a taller and narrower shell shape. To find out whether or not the shores of Aberdeen reflected this, samples were taken from two sites (Site A and Site B) along the Aberdeen coastline that varied in their exposure to wave action. The sites were chosen to provide two sample sites with a notable difference in their environment. In the more sheltered site A, limpets were not exposed to harsh waves, while at site B, there was significantly more wave action. Quadrats were used at both sites to provide an area of sampling for the limpets and they were placed around 5 meters from the waterline. The overall results from the study showed that there is a very strong relationship between diameter and height in Limpet shells and that there was an incredibly slight difference in the relationship between the two sites. 1.Introduction Limpets (Patella vulgate) live in algae rich environments on rocky shores.
