2. The And Disease Of The Roman Empire
Throughout history the human race has been faced with one key factor that no one civilization
has even been able to beat, not the might of the Roman Byzantine Empire, nor the combined
efforts of the entirety of Europe and their scholars could defeat this recurring foe. Pandemics,
from the Greek pan meaning all, and demos meaning people (Harper Etymonline.com), are these
indiscriminate killers whom care not for your social standing be it wealth, fame, or glory.
Humans have contested with disease ever since the infantile stages of the species, but the ability
of it to spread was severely inhibited by the fact that humans stayed in small groups of 10 30
people at most, giving the virus or disease severely hampered virulence. It was not till humans
began gathering in larger, more permanent settlements such as the early Classical cities of Athens,
Ramses, and Rome, that the issue of sanitation and disease came into effect. This has not to say
that our issues with sanitation and disease prevention have stopped, rather have they been brought
forward into the limelight, many nations around the world today have issues with age old diseases
and give rise to extremely deadly new viruses of their own. To fully understand the effect of
pandemics in history, then one must consider three major plagues of our recorded history, the first
pandemic Plague of Athens , the pivotal Plague of Justinian, and the infamous Black Death
The first pandemic known to recorded history was the

3. Analysis Of The Last Man By Thomas Campbell Essay
The Encompassing of Solitude and the Manifesting of a Post Apocalyptic Prediction The Earth s
apparent boundary between tangible existence and conceptual objectives consequently ignites
curiosity throughout humanity, while the beckoning of man kind s search for reason throughout
the unexplained components of life, thus, has become inevitable. In contrasting demeanor, some
individual beings have lavished in the comfort that is granted to them through faith and religion.
The repression of one s inquisitive behavior reaps growth in acceptance of trivial mysteries
regarding life. Likely, humanreactions to genuine solitude vary and are ultimately subjective in
accordance to each human s differing perception. Debuting during the Revolutionary era in
literature, The Last Man by Thomas Campbell embraced societal speculation, and provided
interesting documentation that regarded the termination of the human race. The narrator of
Campbell s poem, who presumably lacks the mortal conditions of the human species, garners a
pessimistic outlook upon the forced separation between he and all mortal beings. Opposing
Campbell s dreary attitudes on the topic, Wordsworth delivered a speaker within his poem titled I
Wandered Lonely as a Cloud who insistently, and gleefully observed and portrayed nature from an
area of chosen detachment. Within these poems, Wordsworth and Campbell centralized the concept
of the complete isolation of man from all but the nature that surrounds him. In

4. Mckinsey 7s Framework
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McKinsey_7S_Framework The McKinsey 7S Framework is a
management model developed by well known business consultants Waterman and Peters (who also
developed the MBWA Management By Walking Around motif, and authored In Search of
Excellence ) in the 1980s. This was a strategic vision for groups, to include businesses, business
units, and teams. The 7S are structure, strategy, systems, skills, style, staff and shared values. The
model is most often used as a tool to assess and monitor changes in the internal situation of an
organisation. The model is based on the theory that, for an organization to perform well, these seven
elements need to be aligned and mutually reinforcing. So, the model can be used to... Show more

All of the authors worked as consultants at McKinsey and Company; in the 1980s, they used the
model to analyse over 70 large organisations. The McKinsey 7S Framework was created as a
recognisable and easily remembered model in business. The seven variables, which the authors
term levers , all begin with the letter S : Figure 1: McKinsey s 7S Model These seven variables
include structure, strategy, systems, skills, style, staff and shared values. Structure is defined as
the skeleton of the organisation or the organisational chart. The authors describe strategy as the
plan or course of action in allocating resources to achieve identified goals over time. The systems
are the routine processes and procedures followed within the organisation. Staff are described in
terms of personnel categories within the organisation (e.g. engineers), whereas the skills variable
refers to the capabilities of the staff within the organisation as a whole. The way in which key
managers behave in achieving organisational goals is considered to be the style variable; this
variable is thought to encompass the cultural style of the organisation. The shared values variable,
originally termed superordinate goals, refers to the significant meanings or guiding concepts that
organisational members share (Peters and Waterman, 1982). The shape of

5. Process Of Aging Essay
The process of aging presents numerous challenges to the individual who is aging and also to
those surrounding and caring for that individual. In many circumstances, older individuals are in
need of support 24 hours a day. It may be as simple as an individual just needing assistance to the
restroom a few times a day, to as complicated as an individual requiring constant supervision and
guidance when suffering from severe dementia. In either case, and in all the cases in between those
two on the spectrum of care, the caregiver and those being cared for could benefit from adult day
services. As individuals age, they frequently become more dependent on those around them for
assistance physically, emotionally, medically, and financially. Often times, children find themselves

This time may be needed for the caretaker to work, it may also allow for imperative rest for long
term caretakers. Those who have the opportunity to take care of themselves make much better
caretakers for others.
The older individuals who attend ADS also benefit tremendously. Time spent with peers, either
socializing or just being present, can be an invaluable tool to combat depression and anxiety.
Also, while playing games such as bingo or bridge may seem childish, they are a great way to
keep the brain active. In fact a study of 257 older persons attending social senior centres in the
USA, found that many (n=173) felt their lives had improved as a result of attending the centre
(Stirling, Dwan, McKenzie, 2014).

6. Examples Of Egalitarianism In America
Most people think of America as the land of the free . From the outside it may seem like America
has many freedoms. However, if those who do not live in American could see America from a
different view, they may not like some of the injustices this country brings upon some of its
citizens. When I think of injustices I look at it as the unfair treatment brought on to someone, who
has no reason to be treated unequally. Unfair treatment in this country, mainly stems comes from
the policeofficers that are put into power; those who are supposed to be here to help, serve and
protect are those who most of us are afraid of today. Most citizens want to view law enforcement
as courageous, fearless, respectable, and honest individuals. Unfortunately, for a countless number
of officers this does not hold true; because there are many officers that tend to destroy this concept
with their reckless behavior. Lately, police brutality has become a major issue in America; due to
improper training, the use of excessive force against minorities, and America s broken system for
justice, as police officers are not being held accountable for their actions.
The concept egalitarianism can be a little difficult to understand at first, because there are many
different ways to define this concept. The basic idea around egalitarianism is people should get
the same, or be treated the same, or be treated as equals, in some respect (Encyclopedia of
Philosophy). There are different ways to define equal

7. Hitler s Effect On The German People And Nazi Rule
Nazi Germany Essay INTRODUCTION discuss the question and what you are going to talk about
in your essay
From 1933 1938 life in Germany was worse for people because of the way that Hitler abused the
power he had been given. Not only did he abuse the power but the people of Germany themselves.
At the same time, there were also some positives in the way that Hitler ran things. He completely
abolished unemployment rates, and gave the German people a sense of pride again. The key
aspects of Adolf Hitler s rule on Germany when he came into power were the separation of certain
people such as communists, Jews and disable or handicapped people from the pure Germans.
Hitler s rule had several effects in the German people and their country. Hitler was very aware of
things and therefore he knew what the people wanted and the things he needed to promise to them
in order to be selected for the position of chancellor. This caused both positive and negative effects
on the German people and Hitler s Nazi rule. The Weimar Republicknow as the makeshift
democracy was set up as an emergency solution to assist with the diminishing of the post war
effects on the Germany society and population. The Government was unstable due to it having to
face the harshest social, economic and political issues of Germany. The reason why the Weimar
Republic was out ruled was because they gave too much power to the states and the army.

Each evening, the little aristocrat went for a walk. Her little legs moved swiftly to the point that
the walker would have to run to keep up with her. She stopped to bark at large dogs, ignoring
anyone her own size.
It was extremely difficult to sit down after a hard day s work without Mabel hopping up onto
Hanna s lap. One afternoon, while the children were all at school, Hanna just wanted some peace

With a fearful look in her eyes, Mabel bounded to the edge of the bed, jumped to the floor and
scurried underneath out of Hanna s reach. She yelled at the dog, Just you wait until Molly gets

Hanna headed for the stack of magazines inside the end table next to the couch, hoping to find any
information about removing greasy oil from fabric.
This was not the first time Hanna had dealt with Mabel s paw prints. One time, the children
purchased a Father s Day card. Each child signed his or her name. Deciding Mabel was now an

placed Mabel on the counter in the laundry room, painted her front right paw with bright red paint,

9. Gladiators Essay
People may see gladiators as a hero maybe even a role model however; their life is not something
one would truly wish for. A life in chains with harsh training, blood and existence were all given
for a man s word. Gladiators fought for freedom, money, and life; few gave all for something, and
most gave all for nothing. The gladiatorlife was not about going in an arena to become the most
notorious named fighter. The purpose for the gladiator to fight was to receive a chance to see their
family. They fought to support, and to see another sunrise.
Gladiators are seen as fighters or warriors of the colosseums in Rome; however not as slaves or
prisoners. Most gladiators were captured and prisoners of war who were later sold to owners, but
are referred to as managers. These managers would turn prisoners into gladiators who were hungry
for wins to survive. Wins brought life, food, women, and amenities that the gladiator could dream
for as a free person.
Some of the gladiators were free men and women who would sign contracts to managers for a set
amount of fights or wins. These free men and women fought for ransom to help pay off debts or to
support a family. Desperate individuals, ex military, all the way up to... Show more content on

Does aging reduce the work effectiveness of older workers? In this fast growing economy, many
people believe that older workers should stop working at a certain age because younger workers
will keep up with rapid economic development better. Lois Lowry describes this discrimination in
The Giver when citizens get older, they give up their jobs and are treated as children instead of
knowledgeable individuals to maintain the sameness in the community. Similarly, because of the

Therefore, they have the capacities to make good decision quickly and less mistakes. Refer to the
book of Lois Lowry, the Giver, the elderly in the community, is always asked for advice since he
has the memories that is consider as wisdom (130). Similarly, that critical thinking and wisdom
have gained through the years in jobs lets older workers delivery top quality as well as help
companies avoid the repetition of mistakes. In tough marketplaces, it is important to realize that
older workers are the sources of companies profits because after working for a long time, they have
built good relationships as powerful strings to connect loyal and potential customers with
companies. Under those circumstances, older workers productivities are much more or at least on

Besides productivity, some employers are concerned about older worker s loyalty because
younger workers are supposed to have a longer path with companies in the future. Of course
their concern is reasonable because workers loyalty decides the turn over rate that is involved in
hiring and training costs, but Sloan Center on Aging and Work reports that older workers get

1.INTRODUCTION
The automotive industry in India is one of the largest automotive markets in the world, previously
one of the fastest growing markets globally. It started out as a small venture in the 1940s but
witnessed a rapid growth with the entry of some big manufacturers like Mahindra Mahindra and
Maruti in mid and late 1900s. In 2000, this industry became an important sector of the Indian
economy and a major foreign exchange earner for the country.
The Shiv group was one of the largest industrial groups in India at this time established in the early
1900s. With the ownership of 20 companies and a turnover of US $1 billion, they were market
leaders in the sectors like tea, auto parts, electronics, finance, pharmaceuticals etc. In 2000, Shiv
industry was going through a rough phase experiencing a continuous loss. The key reasons were its
inability to cope up with the changing needs and competitive scenario due to internationalization of
this market. The challenges of quality based competition in high tech product market and price
based competition in low tech product market became a big concern for Shiv s management.

17. Abortion Vs Late Term Abortion
In today s society, there are many topics that cause a lot of uproar and controversy. Certain topics
like politics, homosexuality, and climate change are just a few topics that are debated on a daily
bases. One other topic that has been debated on for centuries is abortion. Abortion is the ending of
pregnancybefore birth; this results in the death of a fetus or an embryo. Abortionhappens in
different countries around the world, but it is commonly known in the United States. The United
States is one of only seven countries in the world where abortion is legal in some states. Many
people know about abortion and what it is, but what some people do not know is that there are
several different types of it. Just a few types of abortion are early abortion, late term abortion, and
partial birth abortion. There is early abortion, which is when the pregnancy is terminated before
the fetus is available, and then there is late term abortion, which is when an abortion is performed
after the second trimester. The most crucial type of abortion, partial birth abortion, is a form of
late term abortion that ends a pregnancy in which the fetus is removed intact and results in death.
Although some people believe abortion is not the best decision to make and that it should be
illegal, early abortion is a little better than late term abortion. All in all, late term abortion should
be banned because it is similar to killing a fully developed child. As previously stated, late term
abortion is

In order to improve the AAT method, it needs to compare the reconstruction of temperature and

ray path will be investigated, from nominal straight line caused by variation in sound speed. For the
first step, it is required to employ improved ray path geometry calculations. Then, arrival time

22. The Art Of Liberal Arts
The Art of Liberal Arts
I can t go to a liberal arts college. My parents are conservatives! I told my eighth grade teacher.
He laughed and then went on to explain what a liberal arts college actually is. Like many others, I
believed a common misperception about the liberal arts. In The New Liberal Arts by Sanford J.
Ungar, the writer explains wrong ideas about the liberal arts to a college based audience including
students, professors, and administration. He explains the importance and relevance of a liberal arts
education. Ungar claims that it is a better investment than narrow, specific technical training because
it prepares students for career placement by giving them skills in communicating effectively,
thinking creatively, and understanding comprehensively. I agree with Ungar and I think he
successfully explains the reasons why liberal arts are important and relevant in today s society.
First, the logic of the article focuses on why students should have a balanced, well rounded
understanding of the world to be successful in life rather than having a career based education that
is only focused on one aspect. There were no obvious fallacies found in Ungar s argument beyond
the generalization about costs for all colleges thus not focusing primarily on the financial situation.
Additionally, Ungar uses a 2009 survey for the Association of American Colleges and Universities
to reveal that more than three quarters of our nation s employers recommend that college bound

23. Rhetoric in the American Immigration Debate Essay
According to Aristotle, a speaker could frame any debate using three approaches: an appeal to
logic, an appeal from credibility, or an appeal to emotions. All speakers and writers use the tripartite
approach to rhetoric in varying degrees and ultimately the audience judges their effectiveness in the
context presented. In America, few topics are as hotly debated as that of undocumented migration,
and it can be difficult to pick through the partisan and often vitriolic rhetoricin order to come to a
rational conclusion. Politicians frame the debate using elements of the American mythos. While the
evidence they present to back their conclusions may be factual, it necessarily omits the full truth in
order to present a partisan political front.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nazario undertook the writing of Enrique s Journey an account of an undocumented migrant boy
trying to reunite with his mother who had left him for a job in the States to herself better
understand the human aspect of the debate. The story of Enrique is fundamentally a story that stirs
the emotions. While we may find reasonable the logical arguments laid out by the Nazario s
sources, and while Nazario s ethos is backed by extensive notes, the tale is fundamentally an
anecdotal account in the larger debate over immigration. Its appeal is pathetic in that it viscerally
shows the life and travails of an immigrant from Central America, following the protagonist through
drug addiction and beatings, danger and deportations, poverty and exploitation, and finally the
thorny reunion with his mother. Nazario intentionally writes an engaging adventure (or
misadventure) story using a third person narrative instead of focusing on Enrique s own words. The
writing and organizational style of Enrique s Journey walks a thin line between ethnography and
creative non fiction, a choice that deliberately increases the emotional and imaginative appeal.
Even with the imaginative aspects of the story,

Life is about making choices, but some of them can even change our life. Two years ago I
decided to come to America for my higher studies in Western Kentucky University. Although I
knew it was really a challenge to me, this significant decision that I ve made was going to change
everything about my life and me. There are many things in life that can change the course of a
person s life. It can either make a positive impact or a negative impact on a person s life. It s
always best to have the positive impact though. For me I have had a positive experience that has

Arriving in a new country was exciting and discomforting. America is a wonderful place to live,
which is full of adventure and challenges. I was attracted by the Western culture. Meanwhile,
different languages also troubled me. Although I began to learn English in elementary school from
ABC, my listening and oral abilities tend not to be adequate. I have to study hard to improve my
English, so that I can understand what the people said.
Since I came to America, I made great progress not only with foreign languages but also with my
adaptive capabilities. From what I saw, read, and talked with my friends, I realized that I am
improving more and more. In the past two years, I learned a lot more here. This experience not
only broadens my view but also enriches my life. It changed my life for the good.
I am a changed and a better person, I have direction for my life, and I have an amazing friend

Identity, is sacrificed for stability. Society and class structure, are devoid of identity and
community, a stable system built for the superficial pleasures of life and control at the cost of

31. Relationship Between Child Support And Child Relationship
Parent to Child Relationship Analyzed by Child Support and Disconnection
I am writing about the topic of how child support can affect the relationship a parent feels
towards their child. In a sense that it can make the parent feel as if the child is an expense. As
something they have to constantly keep up with like a phone bill or water bill. I chose this topic
because I feel that there is a disconnection between parents that are required to pay child support
toward their child. Those parents paying child support in most instances are only allowed to see
their child for a certain period of time. That being a weekend or every other weekend. If not at all
in the most extreme cases. This disconnection in turn can lead to a broken relationship between the
parent and the child. The parent is seen as a negative figure by the child whereas the parent sees the
child as an expense. Which can lead to other negative impacts between the family. The parent with
full custody or majority custody is a better able to raise the child and instill negative feelings about
the other parent into the child. What is significant and interesting about this particular field of
inquiry that this is constantly happening in modern time. As seen through high levels of divorce,
custody battles, and parents that are required to pay child support on a monthly basis. At times
the other parent with majority custody can even be better off as they are receiving another check
while the parent required to pay child support is at times struggling to get by. Needless to say that
the parent required to pay child support is at fault and put themselves in the situation in the first
place. The challenges I expect to face while researching are unscholarly resources in which
frustrated parents post on online websites. Even though these experiences may be first hand
insights they are most likely posted to unscholarly websites which cannot be used for this essay. A
possible thesis is, child support leads to a broken relationship between a parent and a child with the
cause of future disconnection. The research question being, Does child support make a parent feel
like their child is an expense that leads to disconnection? With many answers surrounding this

Australia s society has developed in many ways since colonisation. An example of society
developing in Australia is how the Australian flag design has changed over time and had things like

36. Childbirth During The Nineteenth Century Essay
The idea of childbirth has been viewed in three peculiar ways: a social natural occurrence, as a
passage to an early death, and in present times a medical procedure needed when having children. In
the seventieth and eighteenth century childbirth was seen as a social celebration conducted by
midwives, while in the nineteenth century fear of death arose due to an increase of maternal
mortality rates. This time period also served as a transition time between the elimination of the
midwife and the emergence of the physician. The transition was due to attitude changes and
knowledge understanding. During the twentieth century, medical knowledge expanded and thus the
idea of childbirthwas medicalized into a medical procedure needed to have healthy children.
Childbirth once seen as a natural phenomenon was now an event that needed medical attention by
health facilitators at institutions of health. The ideas around childbirth developed based on the
knowledge, cultural setting, mortality rates, and professionals available at the time. Based on these
ideas it is easy to see how social and behavioral aspects influenced childbirth throughout the
seventeenth, eighteenth, ninetieth and twentieth centuries. In addition, the communities views on
childbirth were influenced by the development of public healthinfrastructure, public health policy
advancement and how well public officials were able to disseminate information. In the colonial
era, the majority of women spent their lives

In Nolan s work, AI is subservient to man, and does more than just aid him in his quest. In fact,

where the mysterious they are not just the humans of the future as Cooper states, but advanced
AI human hybrids of the future. Several clues are given to support this thesis. First, the
beginning of the film shows the museum footage of Murphy and the elderly recounting history
on smaller versions of what look like monolithic bots. Just as the monolith bots store the history
of man, they store the history of Murph and Cooper, as demonstrated when Cooper is in the

Murphy gives a big clue no one seems to have picked up on, pleading, It isn t hurting anyone, can
t we let it go? Murph speaks of the old Indian Air Force drone as if it were alive. Third, when
Cooper passes the event horizon having travelled beyond space and time, the means by which
humanity will transcend those final boundaries is revealed as the agents who, like angelic
guardians throughout the film, consistently save the humans. Just as the solution to the problem of

the lowest to the highest. Examples of this are being a son or daughter, dental technician or the

41. Ethnocentrism In Prejudging Places
Put on your thinking caps and think of the last time you pre judged someone based upon culture?
I think it is safe to assume everyone has experienced first hand the act of prejudging culture.
Culture comes in many shapes and forms, such as ways of dressing, dating, or eating, as we
learned about on January 3, 2017 lecture. Ultimately, judging someone in view of their culture, or
way of living, before getting to know them is called ethnocentrism (page 37 in Communicate!). We
discover ethnocentrism in a multitude of different places, for example in the market, workplace,
school, or restaurants (page 191 in Communicate!). Many people are guilty of making these
judgements of culture each day. These predicaments of culture can be made by public... Show more

Why does ethnocentrism exist? Well, I firmly believe it exists because of our lack of respect,
knowledge, and consideration for others. My impression perceives to be that the world we live
in is too fast paced. Everything we do is by a touch of a button! We do not take the time to gain
knowledge of other people s way of living, therefore we create automatic assumptions of others
as if at a push of a button, see the connection? Assumptions can happen as fast as a millisecond,
because of looks, dress, or makeup. Therefore, I read an article the other day about
ethnocentrism in the hospital. If you have never been a patient at a hospital, let me tell you the
basics. When admitted to a hospital and the procedure will require an overnight stay, the patient
would be assigned a room for the night, as well as a bed to sleep on. The patient, usually, would
not be allowed to stand, or walk during their stay (for precautionary reasons). That being said, to
receive the attention of a nursing assistant or a nurse, the patient is required to press a hand held
red button in order to obtain assistance to go for a walk, go to the bathroom, etc. This article that I
came across told the story of a nurse, a patient, significant other, and a nursing assistant. In the

Gladiators and Modern Day Football
In our world today, do you believe football is the modern Roman gladiator sport for us today?
Many Americans believe so. American football has many similarities with gladiator games says
Garrett Fagan. (Associate professor of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies and History).
Gladiator games began as a ceremony to honor important men after their death, but it began to lose
its religious significance and it became more of a popular sport. Gladiator means a man trained to
fight with weapons against other men or wild animals in an arena. That s almost exactly like football
except you don t have weapons, you just use your body. NFL players are trained almost every
day to get bigger, faster, and stronger. Players have spent years of practicing techniques to
demolish their opponents. Gladiators fought for their lives. If they won their battle they would
become free, they could also get the wooden sword. NFL players do it to win a ring, but for the
most part they do it for the money. A man gets ready for game day. He puts on his helmet, his
protective padding and laces up his shoes. He s nervous, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
