Why Writers Change Their Names
Why do you think people change their names? I ve never thought about changing my name but people
like George Orwell and C. S. Lewis have changed their names. There are many different reasons why
writers would change their names to get published. People want to publish more and more books each
year so they have to change their names to be able to write more books. J. K. Rowling and S. E.
Hinton is a couple of good examples to show why authors changed their names. They have changed
their names by putting their initials instead of their actual names. In the article, What s in a Name? it
states, Susan Eloise Hinton, who is famous for young adult novels, is a example author who adapted
her name. S.E. Hinton s first book The Outsiders includes a male narrator. This shows how the author
S. E. Hinton abbreviated her name so no one knew she was a woman s writing about a young boy in a
gang. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article, Introducing Jane Eyre: An Unlikely Victorian Heroine it states, Considering Brontë s
position and her desire for literary achievement given that context, we are able to see why she felt
compelled to write Jane Eyre and to publish it under a male pen name, Currer Bell. This statement
shows how Charlotte Brontë changed her name from a woman name to a guy s name. She wrote about
strong Victorian women in her book without anyone knowing she was also a strong Victorian woman.
Robert Southey, the Poet Laureate of England in 1836, told Charlotte Bronte that she shouldn t be a
writer because she was a woman. In his letter to her it states, Literature cannot be the business of a
woman s life, and it ought not to be. This quote shows that Robert Southey doesn t think that women
should write. He thinks women should spend all their time on cooking, cleaning and caring for the

Social Discrimination
During the Spring of 2012, The University of Southern Mississippi s basketball team made their first
appearance at the NCAA tournament since 1991. The team played against Kansas State University in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. During the second half of the game, Kansas State was defeating the
University of Southern Mississippi, due to their freshman point guard Angel Rodriguez who
contributed many points. The Wildcats were leading the game by 70 64. As Angel Rodriguez was
performing a free throw, some University of Southern Mississippi prep band students chanted Where s

According to Melvin D. Williams: Geographical places are salient human attachments. My studies
suggest that identity by geographical location is not the source but the result of human divisiveness.
Certain human characteristics (phenotype, kin, intelligence, agility, articulation, and activity) result in
social and psychological attachments that culminate in the utilization of hearth, home, university,
community, city, country, and continent for human divisiveness (Williams, 2003, p.5). The band
members can be assumed American born citizens and chanting Where s your green card? expresses
their practice of racial divisiveness. By practicing racial divisiveness by geography, humans feel a
sense of security within their territory. Angel Rodriguez being an excellent basketball player from
Puerto Rico and playing in the United States appeared as a threat to the prep band fans who are from
the United States. The prep band students felt the need to question Rodriguez s status as a legitimate
United States citizen. It seemed that Rodriguez crossed the boundary of the band student s perceived
territory in the United States because of his ethnic background. Southern Miss prep band has members
of minority backgrounds. If the minorities also participated in the taunting, it shows that geography
and racial discrimination is instilled in all races that are citizens of the United States. Rodriguez lives

Home Building Industry
Home Building Industry How does the home building industry affected by the economy? This is what
we will be exploring in the paper. There are different areas within the industry that can be affected.
First we will look at supply and demand. Then continue to the positive and negative externalities, and
how wages inequality is measured. Then finally, we will look at the monetary and fiscal policies that
affect the housing industry. With the information we will have a better understanding of how the home
building industry is affected. When looking at prices within an industry, we need to first look at the
supply and demand. For home builders this market has been fluctuating for awhile. The gross

The policies that the government put in to place get passed down to the consumers of the product. In
this case the cost of the homes being built. The home building industry has many factors that set the
prices. In this report, it show them the supply and demand of new homes in down. So companies are
trying to get rid of the inventory they have before building more. The externalities within the industry
are ever changing. The changes all depends on the buyers needs, if it positive or negative. As the
demand lower for building new homes so does the demand for labor. Final the government rules and
the distribution of permits are a factor. All the factors from the economy affect the housing industry.
Furthermore it affects what we paid of houses in our area.

Theory Application Of Learning Mechanisms Of Change...
Theorist Theory Description Characteristics of the Theory Process Application of Learning
Mechanisms of Change Reaction when theory is applied Basic Observation Outcomes Bandura (1977)
Social Learning Theory: Albert Bandura s Social Learning Theory believes that learning occurs in a
social context through observation, imitation, and direct instruction. It comprises of attention,
retention, reproduction, and motivation. *Attention *Retention *Reproduction *Motivation *Attention
this implies that to accurately learn by observation, a person must pay attention to the person doing the
modeling and should steer away from any possible distraction. *Retention this is a poignant part of the
social learning process as the behavior may have been observed, but it is not always remembered
which thus prevents imitation or mimicry (McLeod, 2006). *Reproduction this is the process where
the student practices the recently learned behavior, and it is majorly dependent on the physical
capabilities of the observer to reproduce the behavior. *Motivation a person has to value the benefit of
continuously performing the action. Therefore, this development is often driven by positive
reinforcement for demonstrating the behavior correctly or punishment for applying the behavior
inappropriately (Sincero, 2011). Bandura s Social Learning Theory has been used to understand the
behavior of children in a social setting. For example, a new student who observes how his/her peers

decorative hose reels are attractive in their own right, but the main reason they can help improve the

it from becoming damaged or becoming an obstacle in your yard. There are a few types of garden
hose reels available to fit different needs. Wall Mount Hose Reels The wall mount style as the name

The Second President Of The United States
The third president of the United States, the writer of the Declaration of Independence, the creator of
the University of Virginia, and the Statue of Virginia for religious freedom are all terms that have been
used to describe one of the most influential and devoted people in American history, Thomas
Jefferson. He published many works that expressed his views of how to strengthen government in
America and put power in the hands of the citizens (Wagoner, 2004, pg.19). Throughout my learning
experience, Jefferson has been one of the three presidents, besides Andrew Jackson and Abraham
Lincoln, who I have gained an interest in because of what he accomplished during his presidency and
his advocacy for a better system of government in the premature years of the United States. Jefferson
is important to American history because he immediately made a huge impact on American society by
envisioning the way he wanted to see America operate and what he envisioned is reflected through the
lives of many Americans today including myself. For instance, Jefferson and Education is a book that
was focused on his viewpoint of education, while Jefferson and Nature was about nature. During
Jefferson s lifetime, his views on education and nature have influenced the school system and the
ways Americans rights have been established.
Jefferson was born April 13, 1743 and lived until July 4, 1826. Jefferson was the governor of Virginia
during the Revolutionary War. As governor of Virginia, he wrote

This philosophy is now generally accepted as the ideal business model of the 21st century and
replaces the mass production philosophy of the previous century. On the website
www.1000advices.com Mr. Vadim Kotelnikov, Inventor of inspirational Business e Coaching states
that the lean production philosophy is about doing more with less: less time, inventory, space, labor,
and money. Lean manufacturing , a shorthand for a commitment to eliminating waste, simplifying
procedures and speeding up production (www.1000advices.com).
At its very core, this philosophy employs a systematic approach to the elimination of waste in seven
key areas. These areas could be summarized as eliminating overproduction and producing only what
customers need; eliminating unnecessary delay, down or idle time; streamlining inventory processes to
eliminate unnecessary purchasing and storing of raw materials; prevent over processing by removing
any unnecessary steps in processes or procedures; streamlining the motion/movement of people and
equipment; eliminating transportation delays and unnecessary material handling and reducing
defective products and the cost to repair/replace them (www.1000advices.com).
As is obvious by now, there are clear differences between typical production process and the lean
production model. Suited for the mass production strategy of the last century, the manufacturing cycle
of the typical production process primarily engages in cost accounting whether periodic or

What Is An Unforgettable Experience
An Unforgettable Experience in the Lion City A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never
go back to its old dimensions. These words by Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. perfectly describe how my
travel experience in Singapore this past summer has changed my life. Traveling to Singapore, or the
Lion City, with my family has been a component on my bucket list that I never thought I would ever
be able to accomplish at such a young age. Through my travel, I had the opportunity to immerse
myself in the culture by living life as a local while visiting the major tourist spots that the country had
to offer. I also had firsthand experience with the Singaporean lifestyle and I was so amazed by the
beauty of the country. Because of this, my travel to Singapore has given me an open minded
perspective on countries and has broadened my horizons in terms of travelling to new places. On July
31st, 2017, my trip commenced with a four hour flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at seven o clock
in the morning. Despite having woken up just a few hours after midnight and running very low on
sleep, I felt ecstatic that I finally had an opportunity to visit such a multicultural country. As the
airplane began to ascend, I leaned back into the stiff seat and gripped on the armrest because although
I have flown a couple of times in the past, I always seemed to get nauseous and apprehensive
whenever the plane took off. However, my nausea soon subsided when the airplane levelled out and

Recrystallisation and Chemical Separations Essay
Introduction:
Recrystallization is used for the purification of solid compounds. The recrystallization process relies
on the fact that majority of compounds are more soluble in hot solvent than in cold. The hot saturated
solution containing the compound will have unwanted impurities and will be filtered out and cooled to
produce the pure crystal constituents of the compound.
Thin layer chromatography can be used as a physical method to segregate compounds from natural
sources. E.g. Spinach leaves are visibly green, but consist of a variety of components that have more
colour than others. This experimental procedure uses compounds from spinach leaves that are exposed
to chromatography, TLC plate to indicate the different pigments ... Show more content on

Part C:
Clear silica gel turned visibly green once green food dye was added. The first band within column
(yellow) was collected after Nacl was added; methanol was added to the column to start the second
mobile phase which extracts the second band of (blue) liquid from the remaining silica gel + green
food dye solution. The column chromatography produced two beakers of blue and yellow from the
green food dye. Wavelengths of maximum absorption were calculated: yellow = 428nm; blue =
629nm; food dye green = 629 426nm.
Discussion:
Part A:
The warm water was added to the dehydrated mixture of table salt, sand and the copper sulphate. The
solution changed to a visibly blue homogenous colour. The sand and some of the copper crystals that
did not dissolve remained at the bottom of the beaker. A small amount of copper sulphate residue was
left in the collection funnel. The temperature of the solution was too high for the mixture to bind and
recrystallize; Ethanol was added to the mixture to lower solubility. The beaker was then placed in a
cooler for duration of 10mintues to decrease temperature and increase the rate of recrystallization.
When the beaker was removed from the cooler it was still visibly blue indicating in was not a
complete recovery. Recovered copper sulphate pentahydrate crystals were solid, multi edged and
uniform in assembly. High level of purity.

Class Rigidity and Social Mobility
In late eighteenth and early nineteenth century England there was a sort of moral code of behavior and
standards that are to be maintained by the middle and upper classes of society. Austen realistically
mirrors this code through the characters and plots of her novels while showing that social flexibility
was narrow and class boundaries were strict. The topics of class stringency and social mobility are
important areas in Jane Austen s literature. We begin to see that Austen is not a revolutionary as she
supports and preserves the morals and customs of societies hierarchy. However she often encourages
and backs the emergence of new wealth permitting greater social mobility. In Austen s world the naval

The narrative also pokes fun at Anne s father, Sir Walter Elliot for being imprudent with his money.
This suggests that Wentworth is more favorable to support Anne than Sir Walter, even though he
thinks himself highly superior to Wentworth. After Frank Churchill arrives in town Emma takes him to
shop at Ford s and says You will be adored in Highbury. You were very popular before you came,
because you were Mr. Weston s son (Austen, Emma, 155). Mr. Weston was a former army captain and
earned enough money to buy his own land putting him in a higher social situation. This quotation
shows that not only is Mr. Weston associated with Highbury, he is held in high regard there. Frank
Churchill is also a very wealthy man of the trade and because of his known wealth he is the talk of
Highbury society. Through satire of the high class society (Sir Walter), and through approval and
regard for navy and trade professions as a means of social mobility, Austen shows that the current
social structure is moderately changing for the better.
Although there are benefits of social mobility from new wealth peoples and patrons, tradition in
maintaining class structure is imperative and belonging to a class should be accompanied with
finances. After Mr. Elton proposes to Emma, the narrator attempts to understand Mr. Elton s motives.
Perhaps it was not fair to expect him to feel how very much he was her inferior in talent, and all the

The personnel responsible for process selection must be cognizant of the effect of quality
characteristic variances on the quality of the product.
This process, developed by Dr. Taguchi, Robust design, which is based upon loss function, Process
capability analysis, which is an important step for selection of processes for manufacture of the
components and the product, Process capability analysis cannot be completed without ascertaining
that the process is in control. The effect of measurement error should also be taken into consideration.
Emphasis is given to modeling of errors, estimation of error variances, and the effect of measurement
errors on decisions related to quality. After process selection is completed, optimal means for
obtaining the quality characteristics must be determined; the emphasis is on the methodologies used
and the development of objective functions and solution procedures used by various researchers. The
next step in the methodology is process setting, in which the actual process mean is brought as close
as possible to the optimal value determined earlier. Once the process setting is completed,
manufacture of the components can begin. During the entire period of manufacture, the mean and
variance of the process must be kept at their respective target values, which are accomplished, through
process control, using control charts. Design of experiments, can be used in any of the steps

The Pronounced Regression of Today s Society Essay
A refreshed mind is a creative and productive one, is a quote written by Kathy Bell, in her book
Regression (Bell). In a society that is continuing to regress to the ways of previous historical times,
does it make you think that maybe no one is working to keep their mind refreshed and allow our
society to grow as opposed to it going backwards? Particular aspects of our society are regressing to
ways that can be compared to those of the Paleolithic period, including the way our society s gender
roles are portrayed, our ideology and how we treat people, and being civilized. We are reverting to
women being the homebodies and taking care of their children and given high expectations, and men
being the one in charge. Today s society, like the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is near impossible to walk through a store and not see a female dressed suggestively posed on a
magazine or in an ad to sell any kind of product. Women are also subjected to be at home taking care
of the house and children and any needs that their husband may have at any given time. It is plastered
unashamedly on any available form of advertisement, whether it be for a diet pill, gym, clothing line,
etc., for a woman to look, act, and feel a certain way. Females as an entirety, are supposed to be in
shape, happy at all times to meet any and all needs, look like a runway model, and have all of our
ducks in a row. This is similar to how the Paleolithic people wanted women to look like the statuettes
and to be gatherers, serving their husband, children, and other family members that they may have had
(Anitei). Essentially, modern day society is reverting it s ideals to those of the Paleolithic people: to
separate ourselves into groups and to view women as sex objects and servants for their family. Next,
our ideology and treatment of others has somewhat regressed to the ways of the Old Stone Age. The
Paleolithic people worshiped a Mother Goddess that was similar to a mother nature genre of belief

(Cunningham). Throughout history, society has drawn away from female goddesses and towards male
deities (Pino). Whilst we have numerous

Thompson believed that every individual, know matter how weird, had a say in politics and possessed
power to influence elections with just one vote. These views in the 1970s gave way too many views
easily expressed today like when MTV began Rock the Vote , encouraging young voters to stand up
and let their voices heard as well letting them know their voice mattered. Thompson s life style played
a pivotal role in many avenues of American pop culture such as art, movies, and creating a cult
following that is still strong today. Most illustrations of Thompson s work came from the artist Ralph
Steadman who became a famous artist, and won many awards in his life. From Steadman s popularity,
he continued to illustrate many books such as Alice in Wonderland, Fahrenheit 451, and Animal Farm.
(Graham) There were three movies made from Thompson s writings to include Fear and Loathing in
Las Vegas, Rum Diaries, and Where the Buffalo Roam staring Actors such as Johnny Depp, Benicio
Del Toro, and Bill Murray. Gonzo journalism and other writings from Thompson created a cult
following that influenced journalist, writers, actors, musicians, and even teenagers who looked to him
for a voice. Many of Thompson s followers go as far as to get his iconic gonzo fist symbol tattooed on
them to show their support. Thompson s influence remains strong in America with its reach expanding

Four Theories Of Motivation
Over the past years different theories on motivation have been developed. These theories reach
different conclusions on what motivate employees in their workplace. Job satisfaction, motivation, and
reward systems are included in one area of organizational theory. A review of the classical literature
on motivation reveals four major theory areas:
1. Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs;
2. Herzberg s Motivation/Hygiene (two factor) Theory;
3. McGregor s X Y Theories; and
4. McClelland s Need for Assessment Theory.
Maslow states that people are motivated by unmet needs which are in a hierarchical order that
prevents people from being motivated by a need area unless all lower level needs have been met.
Herzberg states that satisfaction and dissatisfaction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our company organizes different activities which create a sense of community via team based projects
and social events during the year for the employees. Such as seminar Employee engagement

night out so we can meet in a more social and friendly atmosphere environment where we can get to
know each other better and build a friendly relationship.
When a good social network is in place, the employee then looks for a feeling of self esteem. When an
employee do a good job it is very important that it would be noticed, given a positive feedback and if
necessary give also reward. In our company used to send e mails and also fix papers on notice board

Steps in Banana Shoot-Tip Culture
In this era of science and technology, inventions are being made to improve the economic marketing
especially. One of the new inventions is from agriculture sector, which is plant tissue culture.
Nowadays, banana tissue culture is one of the famous inventions created by agriculturist. Robinson
and Saúco (2010) mentioned that, banana is ranked second among the other fruit in most important
fruit crop since it is high fruit production and high demands in the market. As elaborated by Singh,
Uma, Selvarajan and Karihaloo (2011), there are five steps in banana shoot tip culture namely
selecting of sucker, sterilizing of instruments, medium and environment, introducing the explant to
Murashigee Skoog (MS) medium, sub culturing the callus, and lastly is weaning and hardening of
plantlets. (refer to Figure 1 in Appendix 1) The first step in banana shoot tip tissue culture technique is
selection of healthy sucker. During this stage, a healthy sucker is chosen when it is about four months
of age. The healthy and young sucker is selected because they have higher rate differentiation, which
helps them to grow rapidly. Then, the outer tissue and the root of the sucker is pared away until the
size of meristem tissue is suitable to the size of petri dish, which is about 1.0 to 2.0 cm diameter
(Singh et al., 2011). Next, the tissue is sterilized with bleach and it is rinsed with distilled water for
three times. The second step is sterilizing of the instruments, medium and environments.

The Three Archetypal Roles for Women in Mexican and...
In several cultures, women are seen as archetypes more than men. The proposition of women are
instantly idealized and glorified and instantaneously ignore the true complexity of a woman. Countless
of these superficial images can be seen across various cultures where the societies within these
cultures define what it means to be a female and what type of behavior is and isn t acceptable within
those parameters. The persistent restatement of these stories throughout these generations reinforces
the gender system. Women who step out of the norm in these societies are then held punishable for
their actions. Alicia Gaspar de Alba pinpoints the three archetypal roles that are given to the women in
the Mexican and Chicana cultures. These are, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Sweet Hereafter By Mitchelll Stephens
The Man with a Mission, Mitchell Stephens Sometimes there is a situation that one is dragged in to,
such as some type of accident. For example, Mitchell Stephens is one of the narrators in The Sweet
Hereafter by Russell Banks. In his side of the story, he is a lawyer from New York who heard about a
bus accident in Sam Dent where ten children died in a bus crash. Mitchell is also the one lawyer
representing Risa Walker and her husband in a negligence suit that financially compensated them for
the loss of their son Sean. Mitchell is not only just a lawyer like many others but also had more
experience. He sympathizes with the parents who lost their children in the accident because like these
parents who lost their children he also has a daughter Zoe, who is he can consider dead due to her drug
problem. To this reason, Mitchell Stephen has the most to gain by telling his tale to the reader because
he seeks to relieve himself from his grief and to help future children riding to school who do not have
to come to the same fate as others in the accident. One reason why Mitchell is trying to gain
something by telling his tale is that he trying to help the people who lost their children in the accident.
Mitchell might a lawyer but he did not come to San Dent just because there was a good case like the
bus accident and he it was good pay, no, not Mitchell, he even said it himself that he did not come for
the money as Mitchell said people immediately assume we re greedy, that it s money we re after,
people call us ambulance chasers and so on, like we re the proctologists of the profession, and, yes,
there is lots of those ((Banks 90). The reason he came to San Dent was that he was angry because he
knows this was not just an accident as he Mitchell said I knew at once that it wasn t an accident at all.
There are no accidents. (Banks 91). Mitchell wanted to help the people from San Dent by making
them as angry as he was. To forget about their grief and Point their anger to the one who is the culprit.
Other reason to why Mitchell is the one narrator in The Sweet Hereafter that is trying to gain
something by telling his tale is because of him a man on a mission. Like many other lawyers heard

Swot Analysis Of Swissair
In the beginning of the 90s, Swissair had a functional and partly a divisional structure. The General
Executive Management was divided according to the different geographical markets: Intercontinental,
Europe I and Europe II. Besides, the other distinctions were finances, technology, human resources
and others.
Despite the saturated air transportation market, business grew especially in further participations of
Swissair, the so called SBAG. In 1991, the SBAG introduced a small holding staff to manage the
different shareholdings (SWISSAIR, 1992, pp. 5, 9, 26). Subsequently, the booming food service,
which still was the comparative advantage of Swissair in quality and service, were unified as Catering

Poetry Analysis Of Maya Angelou s Still I Rise
Poetry Analysis of Maya Angelou s Still I Rise Maya Angelou s poem Still I Rise was published in
1978 at one of the most productive and successful periods of Angelou s career. Still I Rise tells about
bouncing back and rising up past oppression and hate. The speaker in Angelou s poem talks to a direct
audience, asking them questions, announcing to them that no matter what they do, she will always rise
back up. The poem is broken up into quatrains, although the last two stanzas use the repetition of the
phrase I rise between the complete lines. The author uses figurative language in every stanza of her
poem and uses similes and metaphors to create imagery and to get the tone and the theme of the poem
across to the reader. Angelou uses figurative language to convey the message of resilience and
succeeding even through hatred.
While many types of figurative language are used in Still I Rise, similes are the most common and
they go a long way to help convey the theme of the poem by creating tone. In the second stanza, after
asking the audience if they are upset by her sassiness, Angelou writes, Cause I walk like I ve got oil
wells/Pumping in my living room (7 8). The simile like I ve got oil wells/Pumping in my living room
is comparing the attitude of the speaker to to the attitude of someone who is rich with personal oil
wells. The speaker is saying that she walks as if she s rich, as if she could own the whole world. This
gives the speaker a confident and

Effective Knowledge Sharing Process And Procedure For...
Introduction
The purpose is to identify the enablers of the effective knowledge sharing with constraints of different
work shifts. In the organization, face to face interaction was difficult to share the tacit knowledge with
people working in 2 different shifts (11:30 AM to 8:00 10:30 PM to 6:00 AM). This case study is
focused on knowledge sharing process and procedure to train and prepare the new work force to work
individually.
Hays Business Solutions is the subsidiary of the Hays Inc which primarily deals with the recruitment.
Hays Inc is operational in 33 countries. HBS was formed to provide the IT technical solutions and
support to the recruitment process. In November 2015, HBS commenced the US shift to provide the
online support services to the customers in US. As part of the strategic plan, 11 new members were
hired to specifically work for the night shift. These peoples were provided the training sessions to fit
in their respective roles.
Objective
The Objective of this case study is to identify and understand the enabler for the organization s
performance, and to develop the integrated Model to represent the scenario for the firm. This case
study also aims to help identify the misconduct and the inappropriate practices and to suggest the
solution for the knowledge creation and analysis of the counter measures taken by the firm after facing
this problem.

Transgenic Mouse Model
What is the major problem being addressed by this study?
This research aims at understanding how Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (TLE) develops after traumatic
incidents such as stroke. In our lab, we use a transgenic mouse model in order to selectively delete
PTEN from dentate granule cells (DGC) found in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus where TLE
forms. The experiments have shown that deleting PTEN causes abnormalities amongst DGC, causes
mice to display seizures, and is sufficient to cause TLE. By utilizing advanced imaging and neuron
reconstruction we are able to test the leading hypothesis that abnormal DGC drive TLE.
What specific questions are you asking and how will you attempt to answer them?
In this proposal we want to know: 1) the relationship between abnormal cell morphology and temporal
lobe epilepsy (the most common type of post stroke epilepsy) 2) What are the other intrinsic and
extrinsic cell changes that occur in this model 3) Whether there is an alteration in the ratio of
excitatory and inhibitory inputs to the cell that can ultimately drive TLE. To answer these questions,
we will use a transgenic mouse model and neuroimaging techniques to reconstruct the abnormal
neurons and then analyze them using neuron tracing software. Additionally, we will use a transgenic
mouse combined with advanced tracing techniques to trace abnormal cell inputs. ... Show more

Two thirds of patients who suffer from stroke develop TLE. The proposed study will test whether the
pathology of PTEN Knockout cells is a primary driver for TLE or merely a secondary change
following seizures. Additionally, we will characterize the different natural and extraneous cell changes
that occur within a genetic model of an epileptic animal. This will ultimately help delineate
mechanisms by which temporal lobe epilepsy develops. This will guide creating treatment and
intervention for patients with post stroke

After Frank s father grew sick, the Goldberg family moved to Los Angeles where some of the family

Danielle Evans carefully chooses the characterization of her characters to give the reader an insight
into the racial division that has been pervasive in America. Having never been aware of her biracial

done it already? If a starving python was living in our lake, wouldn t all other animals be dead by

reason why Tara can t go outside, I wanted to believe her, but then I pictured myself being crushed
into fine dust inside of something so big that no one could hear me scream, vanishing without my

Pros And Cons Of Dynamite

As you go through life, you will meet a lot of people that do not like the same things that you do. This

Napoleon Dynamite is a fucking sociopath asshole who needs to be put to the sword. These people do

Gamboh 2016
Film is my passion. I thoroughly enjoy watching and analyzing movies finding the pros and cons. In
film there are many different pieces that have to go together in order to make a movie work including:
cinematography, the actual image and how it is displayed; sound, the score, sound effects and overall
how clear it is to understand what actors are saying; the editing, how all the individual clips are put
together; and dialogue and story, what the actors are saying and what the movie is about. A bad movie
probably has done most of these poorly. A good movie may be lacking in one of these departments. A
great movie has all bases covered, however, there are exceptions on this depending on personal
preference. Some movies might end up being controversial. Some may love it. Same may hate it. But
one must still appreciate a movie for all the hard work and effort that has been poured into it. My

Most employees were only required to show their I.Ds to surpass security in and around the building.
Sharp objects like razors, scissors or tools weren t seen as a threat. Even guns were allowed if you had
the proper licensing and protective case to place it in. A common scenario at airports and train stations
consisted of families and friends waving goodbye or welcoming tem with open arms as a loved one
came home or set off on a new chapter of their life. Times have definitely changed, and for good
reason. A majority of people are familiar with the world news that occurred on September 11, 2001
when two airplanes flew into the Twin Towers of New York, a massive terroristic attack that killed
thousands of people in a matter of minutes. At the time of tis tragedy, there were many reports saying
passengers on the crashing planes were in a hostile situation before the crash. Men from another
country were aboard the plan with knives and took control of the pilot, freighted the passengers and
ultimately crashed the planes in an orchestrated manner. These events caused a blood chilling wave
across America and pushed the Bush Administration to take action in avoidance of tis ever happening
again, this brought on the foundation of what we now know as the TSA in December of 2001, merely
three months after the incident. President W. Bush was in office at the time and honorably placed John

The Colonization Of Africa Is A Significant Reason Why The...
The colonization of Africa is a significant reason why the educational system in Africa is split between
the countries it holds. Between the late 1800s and early 1900s Africa faced many military annexations
and diplomatic conquests. The impact of colonialism has influenced the conflicts in Liberia that
happened in the late 1900s. Liberia s civil wars held a responsibility for the devastation that is
implicated in its racial stance. Social Darwinism gave support for the superior rule over Africa. Liberia
s conflicts play a notable role in how westernization of education and race are viewed throughout
Africa. Liberia s education system emerged because of these conflicts. Colonizing Africa began
between the 1870s 1900. An important tragedy of colonization is the stripping of ethnicities. Modern
Africa is a product of European imperialism, not African heritage and tradition. Once the profits of the
slave trade collapsed, because of its abolition, European markets were looking for ways to keep a
steady way to make profits. Traditionally, Africa had been divided into groups by tribe, family, clan
and lineage. During the process of colonization these characteristics were social, economic and
political. Colonial state formation caused new values, institutions and operational principles to take
place. The African colonization required the taking of territories that were unknown to the political
world. The old views on who would run each group were diminished by the new rulers

Upon The Burning Of Our House By Anne Brastreet
Beliefs of a culture can often be revealed by what remains when they are gone. The attitudes and
beliefs of Puritan society are revealed in their literature and writings. The Puritans had faith in God
always, especially in times of crisis and distress, as shown in a poem by Anne Bradstreet. They
believed that working hard in life, worshiping God, and disciplining themselves would provide them
with an accomplished life and eternity, brought to light by a sermon of an enthusiastic preacher.
However, no matter how much faith they had in their Lord, they also feared him, and thus built a
society with the Bible laying the framework for human actions to please him. The Puritans are shown
to have lived strict, religious lives, with their beliefs and attitudes strengthened by the amount of faith
they had in God. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They believed that as long as their faith was strong, their lives and afterlives would be complete. The
selection Upon the Burning of Our House highlights that while the writer may have lost all she owned
physically, she still had her faith. Bradstreet writes, I blest His name that gave and took, That laid my
goods now in the dust. (15). This quote tells the reader that Bradstreet had enough faith in her God,
that even when her house and possessions burned to the ground, she chose to bless and pray to him.
She was confident that God had a plan, though it may have be upsetting at first. Additionally, the
Puritans had such a strong faith because they wanted to have a full

Thriller Conventions In The Black Swan
Thriller conventions, being a psychological thriller director Darren Aronofosky used mainstream
thriller conventions in The Black Swan, however he at some point broke the norm with some
experimental conventions as we going to see below.
in comparison director Aronofosky used the colors black and white, these colours are often used in
thrillers, The black and white swan characters are exaggerated by the use of black and white colors,
giving the movie the feel that something harmful or evil is happening or will happen
Being a psychological thriller, director Aronofosky used mirrors quite often

Camera wise Aronofsky used the thriller conventions of tilted camera angles that never offer
perfection, we see this when filming the daily grind of Nina s obsessive practice in her mother s
apartment, this is a reflection of the perfection Nina is not achieving despite her obsessive practice.
Camera shakes, on the subway when Nina stands still but the camera shakes uncontrollably, a hint at
expressing and knowing allusion to her uncontrollable insanity, Shaking in thrillers is used to connect
to lack of control, which makes thriller in The Black swan real.
Point of view, in a film where the audience is trapped in a mind of a crazed woman, Aronofsky takes
the Crazy lady genre recurrent theme set by Roman Polanski with Repulsion. A film, which begins
with an intense close up of Catherine Deneuve s eye. with the Black swans s realism and naturism, the
style doesn t only ground it in the sense of reality but also gives it a sense of perspective. By entering
Nina s dreams and constantly showing her point of view the director created a thriller as we see the
movie through her eyes , watching the action unfold through the protagonists eyes brings that tension

Julie Taymor s Titus Andronicus
Julie Taymor s film adaptation of Shakespeare s Titus Andronicus has many theatrical elements that
aid in creating an interpretation of the written play. One of the most prominent elements that Taymor
uses is color. Taymor uses color to develop Shakespeare s characters. Many times throughout the film,
color is used to represent a character s mood or their hidden agenda during a scene. We also see color
used to represent good versus evil. The three colors that are most widely used during the movie to
show symbolism and imagery are black, white, and red. While there are some references to color in
the written text of Titus Andronicus, Taymor s use of color allows the viewers to see a more clear
representation of mood, tone, and character. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, the color black is used to represent inferiority. Had the fly been a color other than black, like
Aaron as Lucius compares it, Titus would have been angry at Lucius for killing the fly. When the child
of Aaron and Tamora is brought in (1:43:00), viewers see another instance in which black is used as a
negative color. Since the child s skin is black, like Aaron s, the child must be killed. The black skin of
the child will contrast with the white skin of its mother and therefore will bring negative views upon
Tamora. Had the child been white, regardless of if it was Saturninus s or not, Tamora could have
passed the child off as being Saturninus s. Since the child has black skin, she can no longer do that and
since black is viewed as an inferior color, the baby must be killed. One of the most prominent times
that the color black is used is during the scene in which Tamora, Demetrius, and Chiron come to Titus
s house (2:11:00). Tamora is in all black attire and her face is painted black. Not only is she
representative of death through her outfit, she actually is death according to Titus. Her job is to bring
death onto people. Throughout the film, black has been unanimously viewed as a negative color. In
this scene, we see black being used in the most negative way possible: representative of death. Little
do the character s know, the usage of black and death is simply foreshadowing what is to come. White

Lincoln Electric Case Study
Lincoln Electric Case Analysis
The Lincoln Electric Company is a successful business. They boast record profits, have remarkably
low employee turnover, and have created an organizational structure that is both researched and
respected. The have managed to do these things by focusing on key elements of their business: valuing
their employees, having an open door policy, and creating employee ownership.
Valuing Employees
Lincoln Electric values its employees. They value their opinions and look out for their best interests.
Not a lot of companies can say that. Not a lot of companies can say that they have an advisory board

However, money does not always mean happiness. One study found that while a higher compensation
package will help improve a company s ability to attract employees, providing a good work
environment is what retains the employees (Heather, 2003). That study suggests that the physical
workplace was in the top three categories leading to employees job satisfaction and those who were
happy with their work environment were more likely to be happy with their job than those who were
not. This makes sense since for workers, their workplace is where they spend the majority of their day.
Heather (2003) suggests that if a company can provide a work environment where people can be
happy, then they will feel energized and valued and will want to stay with that company. He also says
that a good work environment can increase employees creativity and motivation. Lincoln Electric has
structured their manufacturing plant in Euclid, Ohio to be as efficient as possible. They streamlined
the production line and made material storage and work station layouts functional.
Open Door Policy Lincoln Electric s management practices an open door policy. They have never
formally constructed an organizational chart. Management wants its employees to take their problems
to the person who can solve them without regards to rank or the chain of command. Researchers

A Study On The Protective Immunity
In this study, the CRPV/HLAA2.1 transgenic rabbit model was used to assess the protective immunity
generated by DNA vaccines delivered using the gene gun, the tattoo gun or the microneedle system.
The focus was to determine whether the tattoo gun and the microneedle delivery systems were useful
DNA vaccination alternatives to the gene gun. Our laboratory has successfully utilized the gene gun in
our DNA vaccination studies for both protective and therapeutic purposes (17,34). However, the gene
gun system is costly, and we are constantly looking for alternatives to back up our vaccine
development program. Tattoo gun has been reported to deliver a DNA vaccine successfully in both
mice and non human primates (21 23). Compared with the gene gun and microneedle, tattoo gun
delivery is more cost effective but more invasive which generates trauma and scars the vaccinated
tissues. Microneedle delivery has achieved comparable protection in mice with twice the dose of gene
gun delivery (24 ). However, no studies have been attempted in rabbits for DNA vaccination with
either a tattoo gun or a microneedle. In the current study, we compared the gene gun with the tattoo
gun as well as the tattoo gun with microneedle DNA vaccine delivery using our well studied DNA
epitope vaccines and our unique HLAA2.1 transgenic rabbit model (39). Read out was tumor
outgrowth rates and tumor size. We demonstrated that these two novel DNA delivery systems can be
used for DNA vaccination in the rabbit

Material Flows And Inventory Policy During Military Scm
Material Flows and Inventory Policy in Military SCM
According to Major Joshua M. Lenzini in his article Anticipatory Logistics: The Army s Answer to
Supply Chain Management, Supply chain management is similar for both corporate and military
organizations. However, some significant differences are evident in these models. The first is the
absence of maintenance on the corporate model. Another is that transportation, distribution, and
warehousing are unidirectional in the corporate model but dual directional in the military model (see
Figure 3, Lenzini, 2002)). This backward flow is called reverse logistics, and although it is not unique
to military supply networks it is uniquely critical.
Figure 3: Schematic of differences for Corporate (left) and Military (right) SCM (Lenzini, 2002).
Reverse logistics constitutes the value recovery process for reparable spares. It is important because
theoretically is has considerable impact on the supply chain as it is the feedback loop. The reverse
stage starts from the military units, to the maintenance depots, and then back to the forward supply
chain to the units. The responsiveness of the reverse pipeline then becomes crucial to support
sustained operations when higher than expected failure rates in equipment occur, resulting in
temporary spikes or sustained surges in demand. Recent data analysis indicates that the ratio of issues
to returns across deployed units is highly variable, ranging between 40 percent and almost 100

Scholarly Article The article I read was focused on the fact that the main character of the story is quite
different from everybody else and that he isn t really happy with the life his living. That is until he
meets with Countess Olenska who he believes is mysterious and scandalous , she doesn t follow the
norm of New York which is quite the opposite of Archers beloved May who is lacking something that
Archer feels he needs in his life. This then goes on to say how Archers decisions never really go past
his comfort zone since when he realizes he wants to be with the Countess he goes out of his way to
follow her to Skuytercliff and Boston which are relatively close to New York. However when she goes
back to Europe he doesn t follow which

Social Labeling Theory Essay
Labeling theory emerged during the mid 1960s and into the early 1970s due to the United States
experiencing a rapid social change caused by economic and political conflict. Labeling theory focuses
on the role social labeling has on the development of crime and deviance. The theory stresses how an
individual who has been labeled as deviant from societal norms might initiate them to continue their
involvement in crime and deviance. Deviant behavior can be defined as conduct that is disapproved by
the public and is typically subject to some form of sanction. In simpler terms, deviant behavior is
socially constructed.
The roots of labeling theory can be traced back as early as 1902 to Cooley s looking glass theory on
the self, which simply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This concept referred to formal sanctions. It defined the youth s behavior as evil and extended to the
individual involved, characterizing him or her as evil too (Johannes Knutsson, 1977). Mead was an
innovator of symbolic interactionism and believed an individual s self awareness was created through
interaction with their environment. Theorist Edwin Lemert further developed this idea by explaining
how labeling affects criminality and recidivism among those who are categorized as deviant. His
theoretical approach distinguishes between primary and secondary deviance. Primary deviance
referred to individuals who commit nonviolent behaviors, sometimes referred to as rule breakers. It
should be noted that an individual does not reach this level of primary deviance unless they are caught
and labeled. When an individual is stigmatized and treated as deviant, they began to identity
themselves with groups who also labeled, resulting in them adjusting their behavior to fit this identity
as deviant. For Lemert, secondary deviance exists when an individual chooses to accept and employ to
their deviant status, committing more frequently and more violent crimes. However, criminologists
began to

The Recession Of A Recession
Economical term recession means a significant decrease in activity across the economy, which last
longer than few months. This phenomenon is visible in employment, wholesale retail trade, and
others. The recession is considered a normal part of the business cycle. Nevertheless, a one time crisis
can trigger the onset of a recession. The global recession through 2007 to 2009 resulted in significant
breakdowns to practically all the developed and developing countries. In order to prevent a future
financial crisis, numerous government policies were enforced. A recession usually last 6 to 18 months
and interest rate fall to stimulate the economy. During a recession, people tend not to spend, borrow,
but to save money because of a fall in confidence. The government initiates an expansionary fiscal
policy which involves increasing stimulus government spending and cutting taxes. However, the
question is can increased stimulus spending help end the recession. The first article, Increased
Stimulus Spending Can Help End the Recession by Lawrence H. Summers, argues that for a
successful economic recovery, the US government must pursue measures that increase confidence,
borrowing, and spending (Summers 1). Summers alleges that the reason why recession keeps on is
because of lack of demand. An increase in spending to increase demand is the cure, even though too
much spending was part of a cause in recession. Summers defined a recession as:
Recessions are times when there is too

  • 2. Why Writers Change Their Names Why do you think people change their names? I ve never thought about changing my name but people like George Orwell and C. S. Lewis have changed their names. There are many different reasons why writers would change their names to get published. People want to publish more and more books each year so they have to change their names to be able to write more books. J. K. Rowling and S. E. Hinton is a couple of good examples to show why authors changed their names. They have changed their names by putting their initials instead of their actual names. In the article, What s in a Name? it states, Susan Eloise Hinton, who is famous for young adult novels, is a example author who adapted her name. S.E. Hinton s first book The Outsiders includes a male narrator. This shows how the author S. E. Hinton abbreviated her name so no one knew she was a woman s writing about a young boy in a gang. ... This statement shows how Charlotte Brontë changed her name from a woman name to a guy s name. She wrote about strong Victorian women in her book without anyone knowing she was also a strong Victorian woman. Robert Southey, the Poet Laureate of England in 1836, told Charlotte Bronte that she shouldn t be a writer because she was a woman. According to Melvin D. Williams: Geographical places are salient human attachments. My studies suggest that identity by geographical location is not the source but the result of human divisiveness. Certain human characteristics (phenotype, kin, intelligence, agility, articulation, and activity) result in social and psychological attachments that culminate in the utilization of hearth, home, university, community, city, country, and continent for human divisiveness (Williams, 2003, p.5). The band members can be assumed American born citizens and chanting Where s your green card? expresses their practice of racial divisiveness. By practicing racial divisiveness by geography, humans feel a sense of security within their territory. Angel Rodriguez being an excellent basketball player from Puerto Rico and playing in the United States appeared as a threat to the prep band fans who are from the United States. The prep band students felt the need to question Rodriguez s status as a legitimate United States citizen. It seemed that Rodriguez crossed the boundary of the band student s perceived territory in the United States because of his ethnic background. Theorist Theory Description Characteristics of the Theory Process Application of Learning Mechanisms of Change Reaction when theory is applied Basic Observation Outcomes Bandura (1977) Social Learning Theory: Albert Bandura s Social Learning Theory believes that learning occurs in a social context through observation, imitation, and direct instruction. It comprises of attention, retention, reproduction, and motivation. *Attention *Retention *Reproduction *Motivation *Attention this implies that to accurately learn by observation, a person must pay attention to the person doing the modeling and should steer away from any possible distraction. *Retention this is a poignant part of the social learning process as the behavior may have been observed, but it is not always remembered which thus prevents imitation or mimicry (McLeod, 2006). *Reproduction this is the process where the student practices the recently learned behavior, and it is majorly dependent on the physical capabilities of the observer to reproduce the behavior. *Motivation a person has to value the benefit of continuously performing the action. Therefore, this development is often driven by positive reinforcement for demonstrating the behavior correctly or punishment for applying the behavior inappropriately (Sincero, 2011). Bandura s Social Learning Theory has been used to understand the behavior of children in a social setting. For example, a new student who observes how his/her peers ... The Second President Of The United States The third president of the United States, the writer of the Declaration of Independence, the creator of the University of Virginia, and the Statue of Virginia for religious freedom are all terms that have been used to describe one of the most influential and devoted people in American history, Thomas Jefferson. He published many works that expressed his views of how to strengthen government in America and put power in the hands of the citizens (Wagoner, 2004, pg.19). Throughout my learning experience, Jefferson has been one of the three presidents, besides Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln, who I have gained an interest in because of what he accomplished during his presidency and his advocacy for a better system of government in the premature years of the United States. Jefferson is important to American history because he immediately made a huge impact on American society by envisioning the way he wanted to see America operate and what he envisioned is reflected through the lives of many Americans today including myself. For instance, Jefferson and Education is a book that was focused on his viewpoint of education, while Jefferson and Nature was about nature. During Jefferson s lifetime, his views on education and nature have influenced the school system and the ways Americans rights have been established. The recrystallization process relies on the fact that majority of compounds are more soluble in hot solvent than in cold. Thin layer chromatography can be used as a physical method to segregate compounds from natural sources. E.g. The column chromatography produced two beakers of blue and yellow from the green food dye. Wavelengths of maximum absorption were calculated: yellow = 428nm; blue = 629nm; food dye green = 629 426nm. The sand and some of the copper crystals that did not dissolve remained at the bottom of the beaker. A small amount of copper sulphate residue was left in the collection funnel. The temperature of the solution was too high for the mixture to bind and recrystallize; Ethanol was added to the mixture to lower solubility. The beaker was then placed in a cooler for duration of 10mintues to decrease temperature and increase the rate of recrystallization. When the beaker was removed from the cooler it was still visibly blue indicating in was not a complete recovery. Recovered copper sulphate pentahydrate crystals were solid, multi edged and uniform in assembly. High level of purity. Part B: The chromatogram involved

  • 23. Steps in Banana Shoot-Tip Culture In this era of science and technology, inventions are being made to improve the economic marketing especially. One of the new inventions is from agriculture sector, which is plant tissue culture. Nowadays, banana tissue culture is one of the famous inventions created by agriculturist. Robinson and Saúco (2010) mentioned that, banana is ranked second among the other fruit in most important fruit crop since it is high fruit production and high demands in the market. As elaborated by Singh, Uma, Selvarajan and Karihaloo (2011), there are five steps in banana shoot tip culture namely selecting of sucker, sterilizing of instruments, medium and environment, introducing the explant to Murashigee Skoog (MS) medium, sub culturing the callus, and lastly is weaning and hardening of plantlets. (refer to Figure 1 in Appendix 1) The first step in banana shoot tip tissue culture technique is selection of healthy sucker. During this stage, a healthy sucker is chosen when it is about four months of age. The healthy and young sucker is selected because they have higher rate differentiation, which helps them to grow rapidly. Then, the outer tissue and the root of the sucker is pared away until the size of meristem tissue is suitable to the size of petri dish, which is about 1.0 to 2.0 cm diameter (Singh et al., 2011). Next, the tissue is sterilized with bleach and it is rinsed with distilled water for three times. The second step is sterilizing of the instruments, medium and environments. ... The proposition of women are instantly idealized and glorified and instantaneously ignore the true complexity of a woman. Countless of these superficial images can be seen across various cultures where the societies within these cultures define what it means to be a female and what type of behavior is and isn t acceptable within those parameters. The persistent restatement of these stories throughout these generations reinforces the gender system. Women who step out of the norm in these societies are then held punishable for their actions. • 27. Analysis Of The Sweet Hereafter By Mitchelll Stephens The Man with a Mission, Mitchell Stephens Sometimes there is a situation that one is dragged in to, such as some type of accident. For example, Mitchell Stephens is one of the narrators in The Sweet Hereafter by Russell Banks. In his side of the story, he is a lawyer from New York who heard about a bus accident in Sam Dent where ten children died in a bus crash. Mitchell is also the one lawyer representing Risa Walker and her husband in a negligence suit that financially compensated them for the loss of their son Sean. Mitchell is not only just a lawyer like many others but also had more experience. He sympathizes with the parents who lost their children in the accident because like these parents who lost their children he also has a daughter Zoe, who is he can consider dead due to her drug problem. To this reason, Mitchell Stephen has the most to gain by telling his tale to the reader because he seeks to relieve himself from his grief and to help future children riding to school who do not have to come to the same fate as others in the accident. One reason why Mitchell is trying to gain something by telling his tale is that he trying to help the people who lost their children in the accident. Mitchell might a lawyer but he did not come to San Dent just because there was a good case like the bus accident and he it was good pay, no, not Mitchell, he even said it himself that he did not come for the money as Mitchell said people immediately assume we re greedy, that it s money we re after, people call us ambulance chasers and so on, like we re the proctologists of the profession, and, yes, there is lots of those ((Banks 90). The reason he came to San Dent was that he was angry because he knows this was not just an accident as he Mitchell said I knew at once that it wasn t an accident at all. There are no accidents. (Banks 91). Mitchell wanted to help the people from San Dent by making them as angry as he was. To forget about their grief and Point their anger to the one who is the culprit. Other reason to why Mitchell is the one narrator in The Sweet Hereafter that is trying to gain something by telling his tale is because of him a man on a mission. • 29. Poetry Analysis Of Maya Angelou s Still I Rise Poetry Analysis of Maya Angelou s Still I Rise Maya Angelou s poem Still I Rise was published in 1978 at one of the most productive and successful periods of Angelou s career. Still I Rise tells about bouncing back and rising up past oppression and hate. The speaker in Angelou s poem talks to a direct audience, asking them questions, announcing to them that no matter what they do, she will always rise back up. The poem is broken up into quatrains, although the last two stanzas use the repetition of the phrase I rise between the complete lines. The author uses figurative language in every stanza of her poem and uses similes and metaphors to create imagery and to get the tone and the theme of the poem across to the reader. Angelou uses figurative language to convey the message of resilience and succeeding even through hatred. While many types of figurative language are used in Still I Rise, similes are the most common and they go a long way to help convey the theme of the poem by creating tone. In the second stanza, after asking the audience if they are upset by her sassiness, Angelou writes, Cause I walk like I ve got oil wells/Pumping in my living room (7 8). The simile like I ve got oil wells/Pumping in my living room is comparing the attitude of the speaker to to the attitude of someone who is rich with personal oil wells. The speaker is saying that she walks as if she s rich, as if she could own the whole world. This gives the speaker a confident and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Transgenic Mouse Model What is the major problem being addressed by this study? This research aims at understanding how Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (TLE) develops after traumatic incidents such as stroke. In our lab, we use a transgenic mouse model in order to selectively delete PTEN from dentate granule cells (DGC) found in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus where TLE forms. The experiments have shown that deleting PTEN causes abnormalities amongst DGC, causes mice to display seizures, and is sufficient to cause TLE. By utilizing advanced imaging and neuron reconstruction we are able to test the leading hypothesis that abnormal DGC drive TLE. What specific questions are you asking and how will you attempt to answer them? In this proposal we want to know: 1) the relationship between abnormal cell morphology and temporal lobe epilepsy (the most common type of post stroke epilepsy) 2) What are the other intrinsic and extrinsic cell changes that occur in this model 3) Whether there is an alteration in the ratio of excitatory and inhibitory inputs to the cell that can ultimately drive TLE. To answer these questions, we will use a transgenic mouse model and neuroimaging techniques to reconstruct the abnormal neurons and then analyze them using neuron tracing software. Additionally, we will use a transgenic mouse combined with advanced tracing techniques to trace abnormal cell inputs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 42. The Colonization Of Africa Is A Significant Reason Why The... The colonization of Africa is a significant reason why the educational system in Africa is split between the countries it holds. Between the late 1800s and early 1900s Africa faced many military annexations and diplomatic conquests. The impact of colonialism has influenced the conflicts in Liberia that happened in the late 1900s. Liberia s civil wars held a responsibility for the devastation that is implicated in its racial stance. Social Darwinism gave support for the superior rule over Africa. Liberia s conflicts play a notable role in how westernization of education and race are viewed throughout Africa. Liberia s education system emerged because of these conflicts. Colonizing Africa began between the 1870s 1900. An important tragedy of colonization is the stripping of ethnicities. Modern Africa is a product of European imperialism, not African heritage and tradition. Once the profits of the slave trade collapsed, because of its abolition, European markets were looking for ways to keep a steady way to make profits. Traditionally, Africa had been divided into groups by tribe, family, clan and lineage. During the process of colonization these characteristics were social, economic and political. Colonial state formation caused new values, institutions and operational principles to take place. The African colonization required the taking of territories that were unknown to the political world. The old views on who would run each group were diminished by the new rulers ... • 43. Upon The Burning Of Our House By Anne Brastreet Beliefs of a culture can often be revealed by what remains when they are gone. The attitudes and beliefs of Puritan society are revealed in their literature and writings. The Puritans had faith in God always, especially in times of crisis and distress, as shown in a poem by Anne Bradstreet. They believed that working hard in life, worshiping God, and disciplining themselves would provide them with an accomplished life and eternity, brought to light by a sermon of an enthusiastic preacher. However, no matter how much faith they had in their Lord, they also feared him, and thus built a society with the Bible laying the framework for human actions to please him. • 45. Julie Taymor s Titus Andronicus Julie Taymor s film adaptation of Shakespeare s Titus Andronicus has many theatrical elements that aid in creating an interpretation of the written play. One of the most prominent elements that Taymor uses is color. Taymor uses color to develop Shakespeare s characters. Many times throughout the film, color is used to represent a character s mood or their hidden agenda during a scene. We also see color used to represent good versus evil. The three colors that are most widely used during the movie to show symbolism and imagery are black, white, and red. While there are some references to color in the written text of Titus Andronicus, Taymor s use of color allows the viewers to see a more clear representation of mood, tone, and character. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Again, the color black is used to represent inferiority. Had the fly been a color other than black, like Aaron as Lucius compares it, Titus would have been angry at Lucius for killing the fly. When the child of Aaron and Tamora is brought in (1:43:00), viewers see another instance in which black is used as a negative color. Since the child s skin is black, like Aaron s, the child must be killed. The black skin of the child will contrast with the white skin of its mother and therefore will bring negative views upon Tamora. Had the child been white, regardless of if it was Saturninus s or not, Tamora could have passed the child off as being Saturninus s. Since the child has black skin, she can no longer do that and since black is viewed as an inferior color, the baby must be killed. One of the most prominent times that the color black is used is during the scene in which Tamora, Demetrius, and Chiron come to Titus s house (2:11:00). Tamora is in all black attire and her face is painted black. Not only is she representative of death through her outfit, she actually is death according to Titus. Her job is to bring death onto people. Throughout the film, black has been unanimously viewed as a negative color. In this scene, we see black being used in the most negative way possible: representative of death. Little do the character s know, the usage of black and death is simply foreshadowing what is to come. White is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One study found that while a higher compensation package will help improve a company s ability to attract employees, providing a good work environment is what retains the employees (Heather, 2003). That study suggests that the physical workplace was in the top three categories leading to employees job satisfaction and those who were happy with their work environment were more likely to be happy with their job than those who were not. This makes sense since for workers, their workplace is where they spend the majority of their day. Heather (2003) suggests that if a company can provide a work environment where people can be happy, then they will feel energized and valued and will want to stay with that company. He also says that a good work environment can increase employees creativity and motivation. Lincoln Electric has structured their manufacturing plant in Euclid, Ohio to be as efficient as possible. They streamlined the production line and made material storage and work station layouts functional. Open Door Policy Lincoln Electric s management practices an open door policy. • 47. A Study On The Protective Immunity In this study, the CRPV/HLAA2.1 transgenic rabbit model was used to assess the protective immunity generated by DNA vaccines delivered using the gene gun, the tattoo gun or the microneedle system. The focus was to determine whether the tattoo gun and the microneedle delivery systems were useful DNA vaccination alternatives to the gene gun. Our laboratory has successfully utilized the gene gun in our DNA vaccination studies for both protective and therapeutic purposes (17,34). However, the gene gun system is costly, and we are constantly looking for alternatives to back up our vaccine development program. Tattoo gun has been reported to deliver a DNA vaccine successfully in both mice and non human primates (21 23). Compared with the gene gun and microneedle, tattoo gun delivery is more cost effective but more invasive which generates trauma and scars the vaccinated tissues. Microneedle delivery has achieved comparable protection in mice with twice the dose of gene gun delivery (24 ). However, no studies have been attempted in rabbits for DNA vaccination with either a tattoo gun or a microneedle. In the current study, we compared the gene gun with the tattoo gun as well as the tattoo gun with microneedle DNA vaccine delivery using our well studied DNA epitope vaccines and our unique HLAA2.1 transgenic rabbit model (39). Read out was tumor outgrowth rates and tumor size. We demonstrated that these two novel DNA delivery systems can be used for DNA vaccination in the rabbit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Material Flows And Inventory Policy During Military Scm Material Flows and Inventory Policy in Military SCM According to Major Joshua M. Lenzini in his article Anticipatory Logistics: The Army s Answer to Supply Chain Management, Supply chain management is similar for both corporate and military organizations. However, some significant differences are evident in these models. The first is the absence of maintenance on the corporate model. Another is that transportation, distribution, and warehousing are unidirectional in the corporate model but dual directional in the military model (see Figure 3, Lenzini, 2002)). This backward flow is called reverse logistics, and although it is not unique to military supply networks it is uniquely critical. Figure 3: Schematic of differences for Corporate (left) and Military (right) SCM (Lenzini, 2002). Reverse logistics constitutes the value recovery process for reparable spares. It is important because theoretically is has considerable impact on the supply chain as it is the feedback loop. The reverse stage starts from the military units, to the maintenance depots, and then back to the forward supply chain to the units. The responsiveness of the reverse pipeline then becomes crucial to support sustained operations when higher than expected failure rates in equipment occur, resulting in temporary spikes or sustained surges in demand. Recent data analysis indicates that the ratio of issues to returns across deployed units is highly variable, ranging between 40 percent and almost 100 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Social Labeling Theory Essay Labeling theory emerged during the mid 1960s and into the early 1970s due to the United States experiencing a rapid social change caused by economic and political conflict. Labeling theory focuses on the role social labeling has on the development of crime and deviance. The theory stresses how an individual who has been labeled as deviant from societal norms might initiate them to continue their involvement in crime and deviance. Deviant behavior can be defined as conduct that is disapproved by the public and is typically subject to some form of sanction. In simpler terms, deviant behavior is socially constructed. The roots of labeling theory can be traced back as early as 1902 to Cooley s looking glass theory on the self, which simply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This concept referred to formal sanctions. It defined the youth s behavior as evil and extended to the individual involved, characterizing him or her as evil too (Johannes Knutsson, 1977). Mead was an innovator of symbolic interactionism and believed an individual s self awareness was created through interaction with their environment. Theorist Edwin Lemert further developed this idea by explaining how labeling affects criminality and recidivism among those who are categorized as deviant. His theoretical approach distinguishes between primary and secondary deviance. Primary deviance referred to individuals who commit nonviolent behaviors, sometimes referred to as rule breakers. It should be noted that an individual does not reach this level of primary deviance unless they are caught and labeled. When an individual is stigmatized and treated as deviant, they began to identity themselves with groups who also labeled, resulting in them adjusting their behavior to fit this identity as deviant. For Lemert, secondary deviance exists when an individual chooses to accept and employ to their deviant status, committing more frequently and more violent crimes. However, criminologists began to ... • 52. The Recession Of A Recession Economical term recession means a significant decrease in activity across the economy, which last longer than few months. This phenomenon is visible in employment, wholesale retail trade, and others. The recession is considered a normal part of the business cycle. Nevertheless, a one time crisis can trigger the onset of a recession. The global recession through 2007 to 2009 resulted in significant breakdowns to practically all the developed and developing countries. In order to prevent a future financial crisis, numerous government policies were enforced. A recession usually last 6 to 18 months and interest rate fall to stimulate the economy. During a recession, people tend not to spend, borrow, but to save money because of a fall in confidence. The government initiates an expansionary fiscal policy which involves increasing stimulus government spending and cutting taxes. However, the question is can increased stimulus spending help end the recession. The first article, Increased Stimulus Spending Can Help End the Recession by Lawrence H. Summers, argues that for a successful economic recovery, the US government must pursue measures that increase confidence, borrowing, and spending (Summers 1). Summers alleges that the reason why recession keeps on is because of lack of demand. An increase in spending to increase demand is the cure, even though too much spending was part of a cause in recession. Summers defined a recession as: Recessions are times when there is too ...
