Essay On Enterprise Product Management
Topic: Enterprise Product Management
Software development companies dedicate a substantial amount of resources and manpower for the
development of applications according to requirements specified by enterprises or individuals. However,
subsequent to the development of such applications/software, companies are required to ensure that such
software/applications perform in accordance with the client s requirements.
At larger companies that discipline of product management will always be unique to that organization. They will
have a passion for your products and their success matters more than organizational power. The role of a
product manager is full of opportunities to find a passion for the product today, its future roadmap, sales ...

Engineers are usually great at solving problems and this is a huge part of a software engineer s job. If you are
hoping to take on this role then you should love a challenge and have great attention to detail.
This is a very new field that has been developed recently. Consequently, there has been much debate over
exactly what a software engineer is and which disciplines the job is formed from. For example, some say this
job is much more focused on the engineering side of software development and the theory that comes from this
field. This is taken from the point of view that software engineering is more of a science than anything else.
However, others disagree and argue that this job requires a certain amount of creativity and therefore some
aspects of art are applicable.
It is also helpful to be aware of some of the developments in the field and some very basic history if you want to
be a software engineer. Early computers were controlled by internal instructions that made them work and
function in a very simple way. Operating systems were developed in the late 1960 s and they provided a new
way of managing hardware. The development of the internet has also significantly changed the software
engineering world and provided a lot of job opportunities.
There are limited courses that a specifically designed for this role. This is due to the fact that it is a fairly new
discipline and is in the early stages of

Technology in Medicine
Technology in medicine has been evolving for over a fifty decades. It has changed and is still changing the way
medicine is being practiced. The pace of how technology has had an impact on medicine differs worldwide. In
the third world countries the introduction of technology has been slow compared to first world countries. We
cannot deny the prowess of medical technology and how the crucial it is for the people s health and the society.
There are disadvantages and advantages that technology has brought however the advantages seem to override
the disadvantages because its positives are magnified.
Since the 18th century technology in medicine has been on the increase. There are a number of medical
treatments and equipment that where discovered a long time ago and since them they have been enhanced by
modern technology. The stethoscope first discovered by Rene Laennes (1816), Sir Alexander Fleming also
discovered the first antibiotic which opened doors to so many other treatments for infections. Furthermore the
first effective cancer chemotherapy drug (Nitrogen Mustered) was first discovered by Alfred G .Gilman in 1908.
Nowadays there are a number of options offered for cancer. From the above discoveries new and modern
medical equipment and treatments have been born, which are being appreciated because they have increased life
expectancy. In addition to chemotherapy and radiotherapy a new form of medical equipment that targets only
cell cancer without damaging the healthy

Energy Of Renewable Energy Sources Essay
In recent years many endeavors have been devoted to reduce the pollutant energy generation by increasing the
utilization of clean energy sources. Actually, the power sector is responsible for roughly a quarter of
anthropogenic CO2 emissions [1]. Thus, the widespread introduction of renewable energy sources is seen to be
one of the major solutions. Meanwhile, fossil fuel based power plants will still be needed. In any case, fully
abstaining from the use of fossil fuels is difficult. Nevertheless, fossil fuel resources are ultimately finite and the
goal should be to shift to renewable energy sources gradually. Due to its effective role in clean energy
generation, microgrid structure is increasingly utilized in power systems, nowadays [2]. Distributed Energy
Resources (DERs) and Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) as environment friendly sources of energy are the
key players to this goal [3].
Microgrid as an aggregator manages power scheduling of DERs and RESs to serve sustainably and reliably
through energy management system (EMS) [4], [5]. Employing EMS, microgrid not only alleviates undesirable
impacts of intermittencies pertained to RESs, DERs and load, but also provides secure energy services
according to smart grid provisional objectives [6],[7]. EMS is in charge of synchronization with the main grid,
voltage and frequency control through power balancing and preserving secure operational margins [8],[9],[10],
[11],[12]. Microgrids usually experience power fluctuations due to

The Founding Fathers And Its Impact On Society
When debating the Constitution, the Founding Fathers were concerned with factions and their impact on society.
Many feared that the government would not effectively mitigate the effects of factions. Alexander Hamilton,
James Madison and other Federalists argued in support of a confederate republic because direct democracies
would not be able to protect society from factions. Madison states, in the extent and proper structure of the
Union, therefore, we behold a Republican remedy for the diseases most incident to Republican Government
(173 174). Their argument is void in that their definition of a faction is one sided and the examples they use to
support their argument on factions are superficial. However, the Federalists effectively communicate that
confederate republics mitigate the harmful effects of factions better than pure democracies. II. What is a
Faction? In Federalist 10, Madison defines a faction as a number of citizens...who are united and actuated by
some common impulse of passion, or of interest, adverse to the rights of other citizens, or to the permanent and
aggregate interests of the community (168). Essentially, Madison believes that factions are groups of people that
contribute to the detriment of the common good. Madison believed in the notion of public interest, or of the idea
that the government should act in ways that benefit the general population. Madison argues that factions never
contribute in favor of public interest because they are

The Ritual Of Sacrificial Suicide
Sacrificial suicide, more commonly known as sati, commenced in the Indian subcontinent as a Hindu custom.
Devi Sati was born to Queen Parusuti and King Dakhsha, who, desiring to parent a baby girl turned to Devi Adi
Parashakti to seek help. The Devi promised to grant their wish, stating that she herself would be born to them,
but that if her manifestation is ever humiliated or insulted, she would leave the queen and king s lives forever.
When Devi Sati reached adolescence, she wished to wed Lord Shiva against the King s command, but the King
humiliated her so Sati set fire to herself and bore a sacrifice to defend her honor. The custom of sati persisted in
the subcontinent for centuries and in fact persists to today. A widow immolating herself on her husband s funeral
pyre or committing suicide one or another way is seen as a symbol or marital felicity and longevity, as specified
by Hindu scriptures. British imperialists not only justified imperialism by exemplifying sati, but also often took
credit of the practice s abolishment in 1829. The specifics and history of this practice can be demonstrate
through three divergent theories: stadial, hybridity, and post structuralist.
Lord William Bentinck, the governor general of India (1833 1835), portrayed sati as a widely spread barbarous
practice and demanded British action to help save the helpless Indian women. However, during his reign sati
was not as omnipresent as the British colonists made it seem. A maximum number

The Importance Of Writing And Writing Skills In The...
The English language has turned into the world s most widely used language. It is the principal language for
global communications in various fields including trade, industry, legislative issues, and training. This is the
main motivation behind why a large number of learners throughout the world are endeavoring to enhance their
English language capability. A basic segment of this capability is enhancing one s ability for writing since this
ability is absolutely essential for employment in recent years. One vital factor to consider with writing
competency is spelling as one single incorrectly spelled word can change a word or the purpose of the entire
sentence. Moreover, the weakness in spelling significantly affects writing and reading abilities. In other words,
the orthographic or spelling learning is the driving force for productive reading and proficient writing. Good
spelling information is also critical for recognizing the words, which can enormously improve or obstruct
reading skill. Concerning writing, poor spelling can make writing a troublesome task by too much attention to
spelling. Poor spelling likewise confines the writer s selection of words, which contrarily affects innovativeness
and prompts short and incoherent parts in writing (Baluch and Shahidi, 1991). As a rule, writing skill
development for ESL students is mainly affected by the words, for example, spelling and word recognition that
rely upon comparable skills, to be specific, orthographic and

The Nature Of An Industry s Competitiveness And Develop...
Summary The five forces model was developed by Michael E. Porter to help companies assess the nature of an
industry s competitiveness and develop corporate strategies accordingly. Michael Porter s five forces model is
based on the insight that a corporate strategy should meet the opportunities and threats in the organizations
external environment. Especially, competitive strategy should be based on an understanding of industry
structures and the way they change. Porter has identified five competitive forces that shape every industry and
every market. These forces determine the intensity of competition and hence the profitability and attractiveness
of an industry. The objective of corporate strategy should be to modify these competitive forces in a way that
improves the position of the organization. Porters model supports analysis of the driving forces in an industry.
Based on the information derived from the Porter s Five Forces Analysis, management can decide how to
influence or to exploit particular characteristics of their industry. This paper will analyze Porter s five
competitive forces model and will apply the concept to discuss and structure a new office of Travel service
sponsored by Expidia.com. Introduction The Five Forces were Porter s conclusions on the reasons for differing
levels of competition, and hence profitability, in differing industries. They are empirically derived, i.e. by
observation of real companies in real markets, rather than the result of

Personal Statement On Family Assessment
On November 2, 2016 I drove to Wittier, CA to meet the Galagar family for the third and final family
assessment. To prepare, I utilized Wright and Leahey (2013) Nurses and Families: A guide to Family
Assessment and Interventions textbook in order to guide me in further assessing this family s dynamic and
especially their behavior towards each other as well as guide me in developing a strategy to conclude my Family
Assessment project. It is important to state that assessment of this family dynamic was taken into account at
each of the three meetings, however more so during this meeting via engaging the Galagers in a game of Sorry
and Connect 4. These games were strategically chosen to allow Galager s youngest daughter, Laura, diagnosed
with developmental disability be a participant. This field note is my reflection not only on my meeting, which
will address the Galager Family Power Diagram, and the Family Attachment diagram, but also my reflection on
my growth and development as a soon to be Advance Practice Nurse.
Once again, I met Galagers in the evening, as it was convenient for everyone. All members of the family were
home, including the three dogs that were barking as I entered the house. This time, to say thank you for allowing
me to work with them, I encouraged the family to order a pizza for which I paid. This was also a strategy to see
how they would accommodate each other while making a choice for pizza. Additionally, I brought two games

Clemens And Greed
Everyone encounters a hardship in their life at some point. It is whether or not you attempt to overcome it,
determines your success. One of my favorite quotes from Mark Twain Worrying is like paying a debt you don t
owe, 1 is stating that we worry over simplistic things, while we shouldn t concern ourselves over it at all. I
strongly agree with this quotation by one of the most renowned American writers in modern history because I
would like to believe it justifies my first statement. Worrying about an obstacle in front of you may alter your
view of it or generally deter you from attempting to overcome it.
At a young age, Samuel Langhorne Clemens, four years old at the time, and his family moved from Florida,
Missouri to Hannibal, Missouri. Only about a forty mile distance, which at this time was a drastic change for
this family. Now living on the banks of the Missouri river, in such an interesting town, Clemens was inspired.
Hannibal inspired many of the towns of his stories such as St. Petersburg on the banks of the Mississippi. These
imaginary river towns are complex places: sunlit and exuberant on the one ... Show more content on

childhood memories of Bailey and has yet to be proven by DNA testing of a closer family member of Clemens.
In conclusion, Samuel Clemens has a broad history, consequently few people alive know everything about him.
He has travelled the country spreading knowledge, and trying to make a living. He is a man of mystery, leaving
us to question things today. The man has accomplished so much, how would just one person know everything

Groups Hanging Out on the Street at Night
1. When did the outreach clients begin hanging out in their groups on the street at night?
On that night, we have encountered four groups of clients. The first group seems to be around 17 21 years old
and is a little bit hostile, so we did not spend much time with them and failed to ask questions. Based upon the
conversation between the group and the social workers, they have probably stayed at that particular spot for 2
hours which mean they began hanging out before ten o clock.
The second group consists of 4 men (probably at 20 24 years old) and has gathered together in the evening.
They spent their evening playing basketball with a social worker called Ben Sir and continue their night with
poker, cigar and beers.
We have met the third group in the spot called the present box and it was the largest group on that night with 2
women and 8 men between the ages of 19 and 24. The gathering time differs among the group; there were new
comers at one o clock in the early morning, but most of the group began their gathering in about 10 o clock.
The last group of clients was relatively younger in which all of them are secondary school students (Form 3 4).
We do not know if we should consider them as night drifters or not since the social workers have never seen any
of them in the past one and a half year in that district. Moreover, the reason for them to hang out together was to
celebrate a friend s birthday and to cheer up another friend who has just broken up with

The Exciting Life of King Henry VIII
To begin with; Henry VIII was the King of England from April 21, 1509 until his death. King Henry VIII was
born born on June 28th of 1491 in Palace of Placentia, Greenwich, in the United Kingdom. Henry VIII then
later died on January 28th, 1547 in Palace of Whitehall, London, in the United Kingdom. His parents were
Elizabeth of York and Henry VII. Henry became king when he was just eighteen years old. He was known for
his love of hunting and dancing. ( Henry VIII . BBC News.) Henry was known as the father of the Royal Navy.
When he became king there were five royal warships. By his death he had built up a navy of around 50 ships.
Henry built the first naval dock in Britain then established a Naval Board. This set an administrative machinery
for the control of the fleet. ( Henry VIII . BBC News.) Now, after Wolsey s downfall, Thomas Cromwell became
Henry s chief minister and earned the trust of the King by helping him to break with Rome and establish Henry
VIII as head of the Church of England. This act also brought him much needed wealth by the well funded
monasteries. Over four years Cromwell ordered that 800 monasteries to be torn down and their lands and
treasures taken for the crown. Most of the land that was owned already was forcefully sold to the churches and
monasteries then destroyed. ( The Life of King Henry VIII (1491 1547) . Biography of Henry Tudor, King of
England.) King Henry VIII stayed catholic while everyone else was beginning to become Protestantism.

The Concept Of Loyalty In Percy Jackson And The Olympians
The concept of loyalty has been prevalent throughout history and literature. One example is the book series
Percy Jackson and the Olympians. This series surrounds a teenage boy, Percy Jackson, who is a demigod living
in New York City. It blends ancient Greek mythology evil monsters and jealous gods with current predicaments.
One of the themes touched on in Percy Jackson and the Olympians is the concept of a fatal flaw, or a trait that a
hero possesses that will eventually bring about their downfall. Percy s fatal flaw is loyalty. The strengths and
weaknesses of strong loyalty are explored deeply in the series. Loyalty is a strong motivating factor in not jst
stories stories, but also in life. I believe that strong loyalty to those closest to you can bring many benefits.
Strong loyalty brings rewards through small moments that make a lasting memory. Over spring break, I went to
the beach with my friend Marissa. We had a great time building sand castles and walking along the shore, but
Marissa refused to get in the water because of her sensitive skin. After a painstaking half an hour working on
our moat (and another ten minutes on the actual castle), we were done. Recklessly, I ran into the water,
submerging myself in the salty waves. I laughed and waved at Marissa, knowing she was not going to follow. I
told myself I d stay in for just a minute longer, and then I would go back to the shore. I sank below the waves
once more, fully expecting to return to Marissa on the shore. When I shook the stinging water from my eyes, I
was astounded to see Marissa wading in after me. I yelled out a surprised greeting and swam back to meet her.
We swam until we got tired, using the big waves to propel us and slamming into the smaller waves. She did not
end up regretting her ocean venture, even though her skin burned for a short time after we left the water. She
was loyal to me, even with something as small as jumping in the ocean when she knew it would sting her skin,
which brought her fond memories and a fun time. That meant a lot to me because she had been adamant about
not wanting to swim, yet she came in the water with me because she knew I wanted to; she valued my feelings
above hers. Caring for other people,

Themes Of Home Alone And Ransom Of Red Chief
The theme of a story is the moral message or lesson of a story. There are many themes in Home Alone and
Ransom of Red Chief but the one that stood out to me the most was that the looks of people can be extremely
different from their actions. In the story Ransom of Red Chief the story states The kid was a freckle faced boy of
ten with freckles that stood out. His hair was the color of the cover of the magazine you buy at the newsstand
when you want to catch a train. Hey little boy! Says Bill Would you like to have a bag of candy and a nice ride?
The boy hits Bill square in the eye with a piece of brick . This illustrates that most people who read this story
think he is a good kid by his looks until you read where he hits Bill in the head with a brick. Bill thought he was
a good kid but Bill learned the hard way. In a scene from Home Alone the bad guys are looking through the
house window and think he s a helpless little boy, but when they try to get into the house they see he s not at all
what he looks like. Kevin made the steps icey so they would slip, put a blow torch above the door so it would
burn their hair and made an iron fall on Marv s face. This reveals that people first judge others based on their
looks but they don t truly know what they are like. Kevin and Johnny look like innocent people but they have
another side.
The characters in Ransom of Red Chief and Home Alone are very similar. Kevin and Johnny are both very
mischievous and very rowdy. In the story Ransom of Red Chief it states He was throwing rocks at a kitten on a
fence. This reveals the actions Johnny does and how he can be mischievous. Johnny was throwing rocks at a
kitten for no reason. In one scene from the movie Kevin was using cardboard people or dummy s and hooked
them up with string so the fake people could move when the bad guys drove past the house. This shows Kevin
was thinking outside the box but was also being mischievous at the Same time. Kevin hooked the strings onto
the dummy s so the bad guys would think someone was home when they drove by because Kevin would be
pulling the strings and they would be constantly moving. Kevin was thinking outside the box when he used his
brother s cardboard cutout of Michael

Formal Mathematical Methods And Hardware Systems
Literature Review Formal mathematical methods are system designs that utilize specific rigorous mathematical
models in the production of software and hardware systems. The methods are unique in comparison with other
methods for they utilize mathematical proof as a complement to system testing so as to ensure a perfect
behavior. A formal approach to system designs ensures safety due to the complicated nature of systems. The use
of formal verification schemes creates the difference between formal methods and other design systems. Hence,
the primary principles of the system must be proven to be right before they are adopted. Extensive testing has
been used for long in traditional system designs to ascertain behavior, but only finite conclusions are achieved.
Testing only reveals situations where a system would not fail, but the behavior outside the testing scenario is not
accounted for. If the result is positive after testing the theorem, then it remains true. An error in design is
impossible to fix via formal verification but could help in identification of errors in reasoning which would
otherwise be left unverified. The knowledge of mathematics results from proofs that consist of valid and certain
conclusions. Verification of mathematical statements is not through experiments or social agreements but logical
deductions from basic assumptions. The method assures that the knowledge has universal application since
mapping a mathematical statement into physical reality holds

How does the change in climate affect the frequency and the path of those powerful hurricanes and tropical

Besides landmasses, ocean is warmed unevenly. Additionally, unexpected changes in ocean current will
aggregate the uneven distribution of water temperatures along the globe. Warmer or cooler than normal sea

The opposite holds too also. Recent El Nino occurred in 1983 84, 1987, 1991 94, 1997 98, and 2004. Recent La
Nina occurred in 1989 90, 1999 2001 (NOAA). From the Southern Oscillation Chart, we can see that El Nino
and La Nina is occurring more frequently and having a greater intensity. Theoretically, El Nino will suppress
growth, while La Nina will promote the growth of hurricanes. We will examine whether the theory holds too by
looking at the archive hurricane paths.
In 1997 and 2004, there were 29 33 tropical systems in the Pacific Ocean. Most of them curve to the north and
six of them hit Japan, while the Philippines was being hit only once in 1997. This year, Japan was hit eight times
while the Philippines were only hit once. There were less hurricanes, and they tended to curve north in El Nino
year. In Atlantic, there were 8 hurricanes formed in 1997. None moved west to hit Texas or Mexico. In 2004,
there were 13 hurricanes and 3 hit Florida. All Hurricanes made the curve to the north during El Nino. None hit
the West Gulf Coast (Unisys).
In 1999 2001, the La Nina years, there were 16 18 tropical systems formed in the Atlantic. Two to five tropical
systems hit the Western Gulf Coast. In the Pacific, there were more than 33 tropical systems formed each year,
while 5 8 tropical storms hit the Philippines. There were less systems hitting Japan during El Nino years
(Unisys).

make it fit for purpose in digital age, deliver economic growth, and confer greater freedom for certain bodies.
However, this changes is likely to affect businesses, publisher, individual and institutions who deal in copyright
works.
A landmark case on private use exemption can refer in Basca and others v Secretary of State for Business
Innovation Skills. This case significance to Section 28B of CDPA, any person who legitimately acquired content
(music, film and books) could copy the work for private use and could storage onto other format without
infringing. Here, a number of music industry bodies sought a judicial review on the basis that Section 28B failed
to provide a fair compensation to right holders. Article 5(2)(b) of InfoSoc Directive permits member states to
came up with private copy exception if the copy for private use caused no more than minimal harm to copyright
holders, otherwise compensation would be payable. In UK, government create an exception which caused zero
or minimal harm to right holders and implemented a narrow concept which is only for purchaser, thus copying
by family, friends or within a social circle is not permitted. The value of copying in the exception built into the

The Go Between and Spies
THE MAIN CHARACTERS IN THE GO BETWEEN AND SPIES ARE SOCIALLY OPRRESSED ARE
SOCIALLY OPPRESSSED How far do you agree with this statement? Social Oppression is a main theme
explored throughout the two tragic novels, The Go Between and Spies. Throughout the novels, L.P. Hartley and
Michael Frayn successfully convey the idea, through the use of their main characters, the effects of social
oppression and class divide. Using many techniques they show how class and oppression had power over the
people of the Victorian era. And even after the turn of the century, People were still trapped in the shadows of
the past era. Both novels are told as flashbacks taking us through the lives of two main protagonists. The climax
of both novels lead to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mrs Hayward s incomprehensible niceness . Stephen like Leo, has the colour green associated with them as

Keith was the leader and he was the led . Stephen s feeling of social inferiority to Keith allows Keith to

powerful friend open mouthed and credulous . Stephen is much more different from Leo as

Examples Of Procedural Safeguards
According to Nancy Chi Cantalupo, writer in the University Chicago Law Journal, twenty to twenty five percent
of college women are victims of attempted or completed nonconsensual sex (Burying Our Heads 207). In
October 2014, an eighteen year old freshman at Old Dominion University was sexually assaulted. She reported
her case to the ODU Police Department where she was treated as a suspect rather than a victim (Jane). The
university police department denied this young woman of many things such as a medical examination right
away, food, drinks and even did not allow her to use the bathroom (Jane). These factors caused her to suffer
multiple injuries mentally, emotionally, and physically (Jane). Many cases of on campus sexual assault has

The local police department can be a mentor to the university police department. They can help train in trauma
skills as well as investigative skills. It is important to know how to investigate a person with little skepticism,
because during trauma the too much skepticism can turn a person away. It is already difficult for a victim to go
and report a crime because it requires them to relive that dreadful moment again, and that is why some victims
are scared to go to local police department, but this can happen with the university police as well. In the ODU vs
Jane Doe case she was interrogated with much skepticism, which had results such as depression, anxiety,
insomnia, and weight loss (Jane). On the other hand, if you investigate the victim like there is no chance at all
that they could be lying than that leave the accuser hopelessly and they could be innocent. The accused
sometimes go to the university expected to already be guilty before even presenting their side. Nancy Chi
Cantalupo, writer in Journal of College and University Law, acknowledges in Decriminalizing Campus
Institutional Responses to Peer Sexual Violence , that universities decriminalize sexual assault crimes, and due
to this, a lot of rights are lost. Due to the matter that universities cannot enforce criminal laws, they are not

Farrington s Character Analysis from Joyce s Counterparts
Farrington s character:
Farrington, in The Counterparts, is unquestionably one of the most maligned characters who inhabit the short
stories that comprise Joyce s Dubliners. The infamous conclusion of Counterparts in which Farrington viciously
beats his helpless son with a walking stick after returning from a frustrating day at work and the pubs seem for
some to be more than adequate reasoning for his condemnation. If not, the description of his son begging him to
stop and offering to say a Hail Mary for his sinful father, seems to clinch the response. However, it is extremely
important to remember that Farrington is sinned against as well as sinning: that he is a product as well as a
perpetrator of the paralysis of Dublin. Like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His anger mounts throughout the story. His pawning of his watch may symbolically release him from the
shackles of schedules and time demands, but the frustrations of work only take on new and more extreme forms
at the pub and at home. For Farrington, life repeats itself: work is like the pub is like home. Thus the root of
Farrington s problem is his inability to realize the maddening circularity that defines his days. He consistently
makes life worse for himself, not better. He slips away from work as he pleases, insults his boss, and matter of
factly pawns his watch to buy alcohol. Though each small rebellion makes him momentarily happy, the
displaced rage simply reappears someplace else, usually exacerbated by his actions.
Farrington shows what can happen when a life consists primarily of mindless repetition: sooner or later violence
will surface, and those who witness or are subject to the violence may themselves act violently in the future.
Farrington s explosive violence sets him apart from some of the other characters in Dubliners, who often accept
routine and boredom as facts of life and do little to upset the balance of familiarity and calm they ve established.
Joyce remarked in a letter to Stanislaus, I am no friend of tyranny, as you know, but if many husbands are brutal
the atmosphere in which they live is brutal. It is clear that religion and

Jackson In What You Pawn I Will Redeem
Jackson Jackson, or Jackson to the second power, is a homeless Native American man that lives in the Seattle
Washington area. He is an honest and kind alcoholic that has no idea how to manage or spend money. Whenever
he gets even five dollars, or any money, he usually blows it on alcohol. Until one day he sees his grandmother s
regalia in a pawn shop window and goes on a quest to win it back by getting nine hundred ninety nine dollars.
He gets some money here and there, but he always ended spending it on himself or others and could not save up
the money. Ultimately, he ends up getting the regalia through some hard work and kindness of the pawn shop
owner. In What you Pawn I Will Redeem, Sherman Alexie uses the character Jackson Jackson to ... Show more

Sauron From The Canterbury Tales
The best villain I have ever read about was Sauron from Lord of the Rings . The Dark Lord Sauron, a servant of
Morgoth, the Great Enemy, took his master s place after the First Age. Through the story he makes much trouble
for the protagonist and creates wars. Sending many enemies and dragons as such to attack the hero s. Sauron is a
nightmare that would do nothing to get the ring s power. Sauron does many things that show he is a villain. I
have already said some things about what he did. Sauron attacked the people that were once in peace and all for
power. He killed probably thousands or more with his armies. He attacked the elves and the dwarves and more.
He did horrible things and has earned the spot as the best villain ever read in

South Korea Research Paper
The sociocultural role of sport in the country, including any political implications
South Korea loves sport, sport is not only a popular physical activity but is a significant social practice. Sport
operates as an important cultural resource and produces and disseminates nationalism. Indeed, in recent years,
south korea has shown competence in hosting, playing, and managing sport. South Korean athletes have created
notable results at major international sport events. For example, since 1984, the national Summer Olympic team
has unfailingly been ranked in the top 10 nations on the medal table, with the only exception being the 2000
Sydney Olympic Games. The country has also produced a number of major world sporting events, including

This has had profound implications in the development of Korean society. Soon after the liberation from Japan
in 1945, the peninsula was sectioned into two parts and 5 years later, civil war broke out in 1950. This war
ended in 1953 without a peace treaty, which means the two countries still technically are at war. More than 50
years of division has influenced the culture and national opinions of the Korean people. The two Koreas see
each other as political and military enemies, but they also see themselves as an ethnically homogenous nation.
So there is a strong desire on both sides of the fence to reunify so that a unified Korean nation state can be
created. The reunification of the nation is one of the largest political projects in both South and North Korea.
This ethnic nationalism allows for occasional cooperation between the two countries such as North Korea and
South Korea marching together for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, 2004 Athens Olympics and 2006 Turin
Olympics. Sport in Korea has reflected these complicated relations. International competitions created a
symbolic battlefield between the two countries, at least until the 1980s. North and South Korean governments
invested heavily in developing skilled athletes and funded part of the development of high performance sport in
order to win more medals in international games. This arms

The Difference Between Performance Of Islamic Banks And...
the difference between performance of Islamic banks and conventional banks before and during financial crisis.
They did not find the difference between the profitability of two systems to be statistically different, though
Islamic banks performed better than their conventional counterpart. Chazi and Syed (2010) have identified that
Islamic banks have comparatively better risk management than conventional banks. Ouerghi (2014) also studied
the impact of financial crisis and also conducted a post crisis study on both banking systems to find that
performance varies with the size of banks (Beck, Demirgüç Kunt, Merrouche, 2013). Ouerghi (2014) also found
that profitability, credit risk and efficiency of conventional banks was better than Islamic banks but large Islamic
banks did better than large conventional banks. Similarly, Mobarek Kalonov (2014) provided empirical
evidence, using two frontier approaches, from many OIC countries to compare Islamic and conventional
banking. They found that though conventional banks more efficient in their operations, Islamic banks had an
upper hand when it came to financial stability. Their extensive study covered pre crisis and crisis periods. The
finding of Mobarek Kalonov (2014) is validated by an earlier study conducted by Al Hares, AbuGhazaleh, El
Galfy (2013) in which they studied banks from 2003 2011. Al Hares, AbuGhazaleh, El Galfy (2013) found that

Counterculture In 1960s
In the 1960s a new group of young, long haired and wild people began to form in San Francisco, California and
soon spread throughout the rest of the country and then developed around the world. Its origins may be traced to
European social movement in the 19th and early 20th century such as Bohemians, and the influence of Eastern
religion and spirituality. From around 1967, its fundamental ethos including harmony with nature, communal
living, artistic experimentation particularly in music, and the widespread use of recreational drugs spread around
the world during the counterculture of the 1960s, which has become closely associated with the subculture.

people didn t want any hippies and drug addicts coming to the original location. About two months before the
concert new site had to be found but lucky organizers found a 600 acre farm which was perfect also the
organizers expected about 50,000 people but as the date came nearer it became clear that far more people
wanted to be at the event. A few days before the festival began hundreds of thousands of pop and rock fans were
on their way to Woodstock. There were not enough gates and tickets were checked also the fans made holes in
the fences so lots of people just walked in. About 300,000 to 500,000 people were at the concert. Having

Analysis Of The Movie Sweet Home Alabama
The Southern portion of the United States ranging from the East Coast to Texas is commonly referred to as the
South. Two different versions of this area exist. One is the true South that anyone who drives through states like
Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi will see. The other South is a popularized depiction of this region.
Hollywood has played a part in constructing this version of the South by creating countless movies that have
depicted a stereotyped South fixated on the Antebellum Era. The 2002 movie Sweet Home Alabama poetries
Southerners that are trying to preserve the way of life that existed before the Civil War.
The main plot of the movie is that Melanie Carmichael, played by Reese Witherspoon, becomes engaged to the
son of the mayor of New York City, but before they can get married she has to go to Alabama to finalize her
divorce. During one part of the movie she reveals that her friend Bobby Ray is gay. A little further into the
movie she goes to Bobby Ray s house to apologize. In this scene she is standing on the front porch of a giant
white plantation house, and an African American women answers the door and tells her that Bobby Ray is in the
backyard. Mel goes to the backyard where she finds Bobby Ray and his grandpa blowing anvils into the air.
Bobby Ray s Grandpa is dressed as a Confederate soldier, and later in the clip it is revealed that the act of
blowing the anvils into the air is related to the Civil War. Mel apologies to Bobby Ray and as she is

hoped to significantly reduce McElwain s sum and likely used his actions over the last week as leverage.
Regardless, McElwain s tenure will be remembered for failing to fix a floundering offense. Three years ago,
McElwain proclaimed he could win with his dog at quarterback. The Gators currently rank 113th in total
offense, in triple digits nationally for the third time in McElwain s three seasons. When

was an expansion in 1973 on the industry to better control the cost and provide more comprehensive coverage
(Davis, Collins, Morris, 2006). From 1973 to 1982 grants and loans were provided to develop HMO s. They
required employees of large corporations to extend the coverage to all the employees if in the areas that
coverage was available. The expansion of the managed care plans soon multiplied into new forms, since few
precautionary measures were taken to measure and record the data of the growing success, it caused three major

Falling into Drug Addiction
You have probably heard stories about people who try drugs as an experiment. They liked the feeling after
taking the drug. They decided take the drug again. And then another time, thinking they can always stop when
they want to. Unfortunately, some of them never got to do so because they got addicted to the drug.
There are many reasons why people take drugs, these include: to have fun, to keep calm, to gain confidence, to
feed their curiosity, to celebrate, and many others.
Some drugs were intended to address some medical conditions. But if used improperly, they can be addictive.
Regardless if the drug was intended for medicinal purposes or not, some get dependent on them, making it hard
for them to stop taking that drug. And if they manage to, they will often have withdrawal symptoms.
There are many types of drugs. They can affect the body in different ways. But regardless of their effect, you
should stay away from them unless it is for medicinal purposes and is strictly supervised by a physician. Let us
take a look at some of the different drugs.

Age-Related Diversity Issues at the Workplace
Workplace Diversity Issues Age Related Introduction Study #1 Older people are not retiring as the traditional

(BLS) between 1977 and 2007, the number of employed workers over the age of 65 ...increased 101 percent
(BLS). For men 65 or older still at work, the increase (between 1977 and 2007) reflects a 75% rise; as for
women, the number of those 65 and older rose by an impressives147 percent in that time frame (BLS). The
number of people 75 years of age and older that are employed is relative small (0.8 percent of the American
workforce) and yet this age group experienced the most dramatic gain during the period 1977 to 2007 a startling
172 percent (BLS). This study used data collected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which gathers statistical
data from the consumer price index, the Current Population Survey, and employment surveys to present a clear
picture of age in the workplace. The data analysis techniques are not known, nor are the collection strategies that
the federal government uses. Theoretically this information is presented as raw data drawn from a number of
sources with no editorial agenda. It is interesting to note that in that same window of time the number of non
institutionalized Americans 65 and older rose by about 60 percent but the number of those 65 and over who

Engineers are usually great at solving problems and this is a huge part of a software engineer s job. If you are hoping to take on this role then you should love a challenge and have great attention to detail. This is a very new field that has been developed recently. Consequently, there has been much debate over exactly what a software engineer is and which disciplines the job is formed from. For example, some say this job is much more focused on the engineering side of software development and the theory that comes from this field. This is taken from the point of view that software engineering is more of a science than anything else. However, others disagree and argue that this job requires a certain amount of creativity and therefore some aspects of art are applicable. It is also helpful to be aware of some of the developments in the field and some very basic history if you want to be a software engineer. Early computers were controlled by internal instructions that made them work and function in a very simple way. Operating systems were developed in the late 1960 s and they provided a new way of managing hardware. The development of the internet has also significantly changed the software engineering world and provided a lot of job opportunities. • 5. Energy Of Renewable Energy Sources Essay In recent years many endeavors have been devoted to reduce the pollutant energy generation by increasing the utilization of clean energy sources. Actually, the power sector is responsible for roughly a quarter of anthropogenic CO2 emissions [1]. Thus, the widespread introduction of renewable energy sources is seen to be one of the major solutions. Meanwhile, fossil fuel based power plants will still be needed. In any case, fully abstaining from the use of fossil fuels is difficult. Nevertheless, fossil fuel resources are ultimately finite and the goal should be to shift to renewable energy sources gradually. Due to its effective role in clean energy generation, microgrid structure is increasingly utilized in power systems, nowadays [2]. Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) as environment friendly sources of energy are the key players to this goal [3]. Microgrid as an aggregator manages power scheduling of DERs and RESs to serve sustainably and reliably through energy management system (EMS) [4], [5]. Employing EMS, microgrid not only alleviates undesirable impacts of intermittencies pertained to RESs, DERs and load, but also provides secure energy services according to smart grid provisional objectives [6],[7]. EMS is in charge of synchronization with the main grid, voltage and frequency control through power balancing and preserving secure operational margins [8],[9],[10], [11],[12]. Microgrids usually experience power fluctuations due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Founding Fathers And Its Impact On Society When debating the Constitution, the Founding Fathers were concerned with factions and their impact on society. Many feared that the government would not effectively mitigate the effects of factions. Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and other Federalists argued in support of a confederate republic because direct democracies would not be able to protect society from factions. Madison states, in the extent and proper structure of the Union, therefore, we behold a Republican remedy for the diseases most incident to Republican Government (173 174). Their argument is void in that their definition of a faction is one sided and the examples they use to support their argument on factions are superficial. However, the Federalists effectively communicate that confederate republics mitigate the harmful effects of factions better than pure democracies. II. What is a Faction? In Federalist 10, Madison defines a faction as a number of citizens...who are united and actuated by some common impulse of passion, or of interest, adverse to the rights of other citizens, or to the permanent and aggregate interests of the community (168). Essentially, Madison believes that factions are groups of people that contribute to the detriment of the common good. Madison believed in the notion of public interest, or of the idea that the government should act in ways that benefit the general population. Madison argues that factions never contribute in favor of public interest because they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Ritual Of Sacrificial Suicide Sacrificial suicide, more commonly known as sati, commenced in the Indian subcontinent as a Hindu custom. Devi Sati was born to Queen Parusuti and King Dakhsha, who, desiring to parent a baby girl turned to Devi Adi Parashakti to seek help. The Devi promised to grant their wish, stating that she herself would be born to them, but that if her manifestation is ever humiliated or insulted, she would leave the queen and king s lives forever. When Devi Sati reached adolescence, she wished to wed Lord Shiva against the King s command, but the King humiliated her so Sati set fire to herself and bore a sacrifice to defend her honor. The custom of sati persisted in the subcontinent for centuries and in fact persists to today. A widow immolating herself on her husband s funeral pyre or committing suicide one or another way is seen as a symbol or marital felicity and longevity, as specified by Hindu scriptures. British imperialists not only justified imperialism by exemplifying sati, but also often took credit of the practice s abolishment in 1829. The specifics and history of this practice can be demonstrate through three divergent theories: stadial, hybridity, and post structuralist. Lord William Bentinck, the governor general of India (1833 1835), portrayed sati as a widely spread barbarous practice and demanded British action to help save the helpless Indian women. However, during his reign sati was not as omnipresent as the British colonists made it seem. A maximum number ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Importance Of Writing And Writing Skills In The... The English language has turned into the world s most widely used language. It is the principal language for global communications in various fields including trade, industry, legislative issues, and training. This is the main motivation behind why a large number of learners throughout the world are endeavoring to enhance their English language capability. A basic segment of this capability is enhancing one s ability for writing since this ability is absolutely essential for employment in recent years. One vital factor to consider with writing competency is spelling as one single incorrectly spelled word can change a word or the purpose of the entire sentence. Moreover, the weakness in spelling significantly affects writing and reading abilities. In other words, the orthographic or spelling learning is the driving force for productive reading and proficient writing. Good spelling information is also critical for recognizing the words, which can enormously improve or obstruct reading skill. Concerning writing, poor spelling can make writing a troublesome task by too much attention to spelling. Poor spelling likewise confines the writer s selection of words, which contrarily affects innovativeness and prompts short and incoherent parts in writing (Baluch and Shahidi, 1991). As a rule, writing skill development for ESL students is mainly affected by the words, for example, spelling and word recognition that rely upon comparable skills, to be specific, orthographic and ... • 9. The Nature Of An Industry s Competitiveness And Develop... Summary The five forces model was developed by Michael E. Porter to help companies assess the nature of an industry s competitiveness and develop corporate strategies accordingly. Michael Porter s five forces model is based on the insight that a corporate strategy should meet the opportunities and threats in the organizations external environment. Especially, competitive strategy should be based on an understanding of industry structures and the way they change. Porter has identified five competitive forces that shape every industry and every market. These forces determine the intensity of competition and hence the profitability and attractiveness of an industry. The objective of corporate strategy should be to modify these competitive forces in a way that improves the position of the organization. Porters model supports analysis of the driving forces in an industry. Based on the information derived from the Porter s Five Forces Analysis, management can decide how to influence or to exploit particular characteristics of their industry. This paper will analyze Porter s five competitive forces model and will apply the concept to discuss and structure a new office of Travel service sponsored by Expidia.com. Introduction The Five Forces were Porter s conclusions on the reasons for differing levels of competition, and hence profitability, in differing industries. • 11. Personal Statement On Family Assessment On November 2, 2016 I drove to Wittier, CA to meet the Galagar family for the third and final family assessment. To prepare, I utilized Wright and Leahey (2013) Nurses and Families: A guide to Family Assessment and Interventions textbook in order to guide me in further assessing this family s dynamic and especially their behavior towards each other as well as guide me in developing a strategy to conclude my Family Assessment project. It is important to state that assessment of this family dynamic was taken into account at each of the three meetings, however more so during this meeting via engaging the Galagers in a game of Sorry and Connect 4. These games were strategically chosen to allow Galager s youngest daughter, Laura, diagnosed with developmental disability be a participant. This field note is my reflection not only on my meeting, which will address the Galager Family Power Diagram, and the Family Attachment diagram, but also my reflection on my growth and development as a soon to be Advance Practice Nurse. Once again, I met Galagers in the evening, as it was convenient for everyone. All members of the family were home, including the three dogs that were barking as I entered the house. This time, to say thank you for allowing me to work with them, I encouraged the family to order a pizza for which I paid. This was also a strategy to see how they would accommodate each other while making a choice for pizza. Additionally, I brought two games with me, Sorry and Connect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Clemens And Greed Everyone encounters a hardship in their life at some point. It is whether or not you attempt to overcome it, determines your success. One of my favorite quotes from Mark Twain Worrying is like paying a debt you don t owe, 1 is stating that we worry over simplistic things, while we shouldn t concern ourselves over it at all. I strongly agree with this quotation by one of the most renowned American writers in modern history because I would like to believe it justifies my first statement. Worrying about an obstacle in front of you may alter your view of it or generally deter you from attempting to overcome it. At a young age, Samuel Langhorne Clemens, four years old at the time, and his family moved from Florida, Missouri to Hannibal, Missouri. Only about a forty mile distance, which at this time was a drastic change for this family. Now living on the banks of the Missouri river, in such an interesting town, Clemens was inspired. Hannibal inspired many of the towns of his stories such as St. Petersburg on the banks of the Mississippi. These imaginary river towns are complex places: sunlit and exuberant on the one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His most recent descendant was Nina Clemens Gabrilowitsch, Clemens great granddaughter of daughter Clara Clemens. Within the past decade, this was the end of the line of direct descendants, until Susan Bailey stepped forward. Bailey is believed to have been the only daughter of Nina, continuing the family line. • 13. Groups Hanging Out on the Street at Night 1. When did the outreach clients begin hanging out in their groups on the street at night? On that night, we have encountered four groups of clients. The first group seems to be around 17 21 years old and is a little bit hostile, so we did not spend much time with them and failed to ask questions. Based upon the conversation between the group and the social workers, they have probably stayed at that particular spot for 2 hours which mean they began hanging out before ten o clock. The second group consists of 4 men (probably at 20 24 years old) and has gathered together in the evening. They spent their evening playing basketball with a social worker called Ben Sir and continue their night with poker, cigar and beers. We have met the third group in the spot called the present box and it was the largest group on that night with 2 women and 8 men between the ages of 19 and 24. The gathering time differs among the group; there were new comers at one o clock in the early morning, but most of the group began their gathering in about 10 o clock. The last group of clients was relatively younger in which all of them are secondary school students (Form 3 4). We do not know if we should consider them as night drifters or not since the social workers have never seen any of them in the past one and a half year in that district. Moreover, the reason for them to hang out together was to celebrate a friend s birthday and to cheer up another friend who has just broken up with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

King Henry VIII was born born on June 28th of 1491 in Palace of Placentia, Greenwich, in the United Kingdom. Henry VIII then later died on January 28th, 1547 in Palace of Whitehall, London, in the United Kingdom. His parents were Elizabeth of York and Henry VII. Henry became king when he was just eighteen years old. He was known for his love of hunting and dancing. ( Henry VIII . BBC News.) Henry was known as the father of the Royal Navy. When he became king there were five royal warships. By his death he had built up a navy of around 50 ships. Henry built the first naval dock in Britain then established a Naval Board. This set an administrative machinery for the control of the fleet. ( Henry VIII . BBC News.) Now, after Wolsey s downfall, Thomas Cromwell became Henry s chief minister and earned the trust of the King by helping him to break with Rome and establish Henry VIII as head of the Church of England. This act also brought him much needed wealth by the well funded monasteries. Over four years Cromwell ordered that 800 monasteries to be torn down and their lands and treasures taken for the crown. Most of the land that was owned already was forcefully sold to the churches and monasteries then destroyed. ( The Life of King Henry VIII (1491 1547) . Biography of Henry Tudor, King of England.) • 16. The Concept Of Loyalty In Percy Jackson And The Olympians The concept of loyalty has been prevalent throughout history and literature. One example is the book series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. This series surrounds a teenage boy, Percy Jackson, who is a demigod living in New York City. It blends ancient Greek mythology evil monsters and jealous gods with current predicaments. One of the themes touched on in Percy Jackson and the Olympians is the concept of a fatal flaw, or a trait that a hero possesses that will eventually bring about their downfall. Percy s fatal flaw is loyalty. The strengths and weaknesses of strong loyalty are explored deeply in the series. Loyalty is a strong motivating factor in not jst stories stories, but also in life. I believe that strong loyalty to those closest to you can bring many benefits. Strong loyalty brings rewards through small moments that make a lasting memory. Over spring break, I went to the beach with my friend Marissa. We had a great time building sand castles and walking along the shore, but Marissa refused to get in the water because of her sensitive skin. After a painstaking half an hour working on our moat (and another ten minutes on the actual castle), we were done. Recklessly, I ran into the water, submerging myself in the salty waves. I laughed and waved at Marissa, knowing she was not going to follow. I told myself I d stay in for just a minute longer, and then I would go back to the shore. I sank below the waves once more, fully expecting to return to Marissa on the shore. When I shook the stinging water from my eyes, I was astounded to see Marissa wading in after me. I yelled out a surprised greeting and swam back to meet her. We swam until we got tired, using the big waves to propel us and slamming into the smaller waves. She did not end up regretting her ocean venture, even though her skin burned for a short time after we left the water. She was loyal to me, even with something as small as jumping in the ocean when she knew it would sting her skin, which brought her fond memories and a fun time. That meant a lot to me because she had been adamant about not wanting to swim, yet she came in the water with me because she knew I wanted to; she valued my feelings above hers. • 17. Themes Of Home Alone And Ransom Of Red Chief The theme of a story is the moral message or lesson of a story. There are many themes in Home Alone and Ransom of Red Chief but the one that stood out to me the most was that the looks of people can be extremely different from their actions. In the story Ransom of Red Chief the story states The kid was a freckle faced boy of ten with freckles that stood out. His hair was the color of the cover of the magazine you buy at the newsstand when you want to catch a train. Hey little boy! Says Bill Would you like to have a bag of candy and a nice ride? The boy hits Bill square in the eye with a piece of brick . This illustrates that most people who read this story think he is a good kid by his looks until you read where he hits Bill in the head with a brick. Bill thought he was a good kid but Bill learned the hard way. In a scene from Home Alone the bad guys are looking through the house window and think he s a helpless little boy, but when they try to get into the house they see he s not at all what he looks like. Kevin made the steps icey so they would slip, put a blow torch above the door so it would burn their hair and made an iron fall on Marv s face. This reveals that people first judge others based on their looks but they don t truly know what they are like. Kevin and Johnny look like innocent people but they have another side. The characters in Ransom of Red Chief and Home Alone are very similar. Kevin and Johnny are both very mischievous and very rowdy. In the story Ransom of Red Chief it states He was throwing rocks at a kitten on a fence. This reveals the actions Johnny does and how he can be mischievous. Johnny was throwing rocks at a kitten for no reason. In one scene from the movie Kevin was using cardboard people or dummy s and hooked them up with string so the fake people could move when the bad guys drove past the house. This shows Kevin was thinking outside the box but was also being mischievous at the Same time. • 18. Formal Mathematical Methods And Hardware Systems Literature Review Formal mathematical methods are system designs that utilize specific rigorous mathematical models in the production of software and hardware systems. The methods are unique in comparison with other methods for they utilize mathematical proof as a complement to system testing so as to ensure a perfect behavior. A formal approach to system designs ensures safety due to the complicated nature of systems. The use of formal verification schemes creates the difference between formal methods and other design systems. Hence, the primary principles of the system must be proven to be right before they are adopted. Extensive testing has been used for long in traditional system designs to ascertain behavior, but only finite conclusions are achieved. Testing only reveals situations where a system would not fail, but the behavior outside the testing scenario is not accounted for. If the result is positive after testing the theorem, then it remains true. An error in design is impossible to fix via formal verification but could help in identification of errors in reasoning which would otherwise be left unverified. The knowledge of mathematics results from proofs that consist of valid and certain conclusions. Verification of mathematical statements is not through experiments or social agreements but logical deductions from basic assumptions. The method assures that the knowledge has universal application since mapping a mathematical statement into physical reality holds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Farrington s Character Analysis from Joyce s Counterparts Farrington s character: Farrington, in The Counterparts, is unquestionably one of the most maligned characters who inhabit the short stories that comprise Joyce s Dubliners. The infamous conclusion of Counterparts in which Farrington viciously beats his helpless son with a walking stick after returning from a frustrating day at work and the pubs seem for some to be more than adequate reasoning for his condemnation. If not, the description of his son begging him to stop and offering to say a Hail Mary for his sinful father, seems to clinch the response. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His anger mounts throughout the story. His pawning of his watch may symbolically release him from the shackles of schedules and time demands, but the frustrations of work only take on new and more extreme forms at the pub and at home. For Farrington, life repeats itself: work is like the pub is like home. Thus the root of Farrington s problem is his inability to realize the maddening circularity that defines his days. He consistently makes life worse for himself, not better. He slips away from work as he pleases, insults his boss, and matter of factly pawns his watch to buy alcohol. Though each small rebellion makes him momentarily happy, the displaced rage simply reappears someplace else, usually exacerbated by his actions. Farrington shows what can happen when a life consists primarily of mindless repetition: sooner or later violence will surface, and those who witness or are subject to the violence may themselves act violently in the future. Farrington s explosive violence sets him apart from some of the other characters in Dubliners, who often accept routine and boredom as facts of life and do little to upset the balance of familiarity and calm they ve established.
