Effects Of The First Great Awakening Dbq
There were many events that occured prior to the American Revolution and aided in bringing it to
fruition. The First Great Awakening in the 1730s and 1740s presented a new logic that had people
begin to reflect on the spirituality in daily life, causing a majority of colonists to question the rule
of Great Britain over them. The religious impact in the colonists from the Great Awakening caused
the ministers to lose authority among those who now studied the Bible in their own homes. With
this change in the authority in religion, it also changed the way some people political authority, as
if they did not need to rely on the higher power of a minister, the there is no need of a higher power
ruling over the government. This thinking also caused the The long term effect of the American...

The Indians were not included into the peace made with Great Britain, as stated in Document 3, but
many Native American tribes such as the Shawnee, Creek, and Cherokee sided with the British.
They had hoped for a British victory that would continue to restrain the land hungry colonial settlers
from moving west beyond the Appalachian Mountains. The Indians were left to roam the
wilderness. Native Americans, too, participated in and were affected by the Revolution.
Unfortunately, the Americans victory and Native Americans support for the British created a
pretense for justifying the rapid, and often brutal expansion into the western territories. Native
American tribes would continue to be displaced and pushed further west throughout the nineteenth
century. Ultimately, American independence marked the beginning of the end of what had

The Pros And Cons Of Students In Single Gender Schools
Have studies proved that segregating students by gender leads them to do better in school?
Students learn better in single gender schools. This is because in single gender schools, students
tend to be able to concentrate more. Boys and girls are also academically different, so separating
them by gender, would benefit students in their academics. Lastly, boys and girls feel less
pressured in single gender schools. Those are three main reasons why students do better in single
gender schools. One reason why students do better in single gender schools is because they are
able to concentrate more. According to an article published by UCLA, it states that boys are less
competitive and more cooperative in single gender environments. Students also,... Show more

Gender stereotyping is what someone thinks a man or women are supposed to be. Boys think
that girls are supposed to be quiet and smart, and not play sports. This is what a boys stereotype
of what a girl is supposed to be. Eventually girls will begin to agree and give up things that they
love to do, or just not try something new, because it s not stereotypical. This is what can happen
in a co ed environment. In a single gender environment, students learn to love themselves, and
learn to be who they are. That is why single gender schools, don t promote as much gender
stereotyping as co ed schools do, and are a better learning environment for students. To conclude,
students learn better in single gender schools. This is because it is easier for students to
concentrate, this makes it less complicated for students to learn. Another reason is because boys
and girls are academically different, so in a single gender environment, teachers can focus on how
that specific gender learns. Lastly, students feel less pressured in single gender environments. This
is because they feel less pressured on how they appear to others and learn how to love themselves
for who they are. That is why students learn better in single gender

Brown V Board Of Education
Landmark Supreme Court Cases пЃ¬Brown v Board of Education (1954) пѓ The Background: In
the 1950 s, schools were separated by race. Linda Brown and her sister had to walk down a
dangerous railroad switchyard to get to the bus stop to their all black elementary school. There was
an all white school closer to the Brown s house, and the Brown family believed that segregated
schools violated the Constitution. пѓ The Constitutional Issue: This issue violated the Equal
Protection Clause of the Fourteenth amendment because segregated schools for people of race are
unconstitutional and unequal. пѓ The Outcome: The Supreme Court states that segregated schools
could never be equal to each other. The Court decided that laws requiring separate schools
violated the Fourteenth Amendment. This decision supports that all people are equal. As a
student, I am affected because people of different race are welcome to go to school where I go to
school. пЃ¬Mapp v Ohio (1961) пѓ The Background: The police were suspicious of Dollree Mapp
hiding a person suspected in a bombing. They went to her house and demanded entrance, but Mapp
would not let them in because they did not have a warrant. The police broke into her house and
found evidence of crime. At the trial, the police could not show their warrant at the U.S. Supreme
Court. пѓ The Constitutional Issue: This violated the Fourth Amendment, because the Fourth
Amendment protects the people from unreasonable search and seizure by the government. пѓ The

Measuring the Cost of Living
Chapter 24
Measuring the Cost of Living
Introduction
1931 Year of Great Depression in the USA. But in spite of this fact some people contrived to
earn $80 000, it was famous baseball player Babe Ruth. Even the President Herberd Hoover had
a lesser salary of $75 000. When Ruth was asked if he thought it was right that his salary was
higher than President s he replied that he had a better year.
Year of 2007 describes a different picture. The average baseball player gets paid $4.8 million. We
consider the fact that the cost of living, products and services has grown in recent decades. But it
does not give us any explanation if Babe Ruth had a better standard of living than the average
baseball player now, because prices for goods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example one year pizza Margarita costs $10 and pizza Pepperoni costs $12, consumers will buy
more Margarita then Pepperoni. But the next year the price of pizza Margarita rises and
Pepperoni s price falls, in this way consumers will buy chipper pizza. But when computing CPI
the number of goods is fixed and in this way the index will show rise of the cost of living, but in
reality the increase is lower.
Introduction of new goods since consumer have the variety of goods to buy every dollar becomes
more valuable. In reality introduction of new goods causes a decrease of the cost of living, but
CPI overstates real changes in the cost of living.
Unmeasured quality change some types of goods and services improve their quality over time,
what increases its price. It is difficult to measure quality of the good or service that is why CPI is
overstated, because economists try to adjust the price to its quality.
The GDP Deflator versus the Consumer Price Index
Two measures of inflation the GDP Deflator and CPI are usually move together, as it is shown on
the graph (http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/2008/08/variation on the gdpinflation chart/) below. The
GDP Deflator reflects goods and services produced within the country and CPI reflects goods and
services consumed within a country.
The CPI increases if price of any imported good rises, but it happens vice versa with GDP Deflator.
We can see it on the example of imported oil. When the price of oil raises the

so there is never an question as to what they offer. They call their curbside pickup Ruby Tue Go.
They also have the ability to have orders ready for pick in about 15 minutes. It makes it easy and
convenient for getting a good lunch in the middle of a busy work day. There is also the fact that
they offer not only call ahead orders for pickup but also reservations that can be placed both over
the phone and online. I understand that in larger cities this is something that most restaurants
offer but in my home town they are the only ones to offer reservations. According to their
website they offer full service catering if needed for a meeting or larger gathering. They will do
everything from setting up the food and seating to tearing down ofter the gathering is over. The

In fact, the threat of an attack has grown significantly throughout cyberspace to where cyberspace
has emerged as an arena for war similar to that of land, sea, air and space, with the emergent
possibility to harm the national security of nation states, as exemplified by the 2007 cyber warfare
that plagued Estonia.
Nearly a decade since the introduction of the Internet, the transnational community still does not
have an organized, authoritative group of standards to oversee the actions of nations in cyberspace.
To deter aggression in cyberspace it is necessary to have such standards established.
This paper examines the cyber attacks of the nation Estonia and how the lack of global standards
was a critical part of the attack. In addition, this paper looks at the vulnerabilities in the cyber
security policies and practices instituted at the occurrence of the cyber attacks on Estonia as well as
the advantages and disadvantages for improving and reducing each named vulnerability and
security practice.
2. Background and Global Impact
From the time Estonia affirmed its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, it has
enthusiastically incorporated ICT in the everyday life of its citizens, therefore becoming one of the
most digitally connected nations in Europe. To further illustrate, over 65 percent of Estonians are
Internet consumers where they execute practically every administrative operation of society online

Comparison Of Ethnic Characters In Disney
Disney. The word that is widely known all over the world and is recognized as a part of many
people s childhoods. But when one thinks of Disney movies, which movie pops up first? Is it
Cinderella, Pocahontas, Sleeping Beauty or something else? Many movies have been released by
Disney but it seems as if throughout the years only certain ones continue to thrive and have gained
more popularity than others. Several of these movies have to do with the recurring theme of a
Caucasian female princess and male hero. When one looks at the movies that contain ethnic
characters it seems they are either stereotyped or used as background, except for the small
percentage where the ethnic characteris the lead role. What will be discussed is the quality, quantity,
and accuracy of ethnic characters in Disney animated films.
When it comes to quality of the movies, there will be comparison on how certain ones received
more attention to detail and design. For example, in the movie Frozen there are several
components such as the snow, clothing and overall images that came into great detail upon how it
would be executed. According to Oh My Disney (https://ohmy.disney.com/insider/2013/10/29

The True Hero In Aldous Huxley s Brave New World
What is a hero? According to Google Dictionary a Hero is defined as follows: a person, typically
a man, who is admired or idealized for noble qualities, outstanding achievements, or courage. When
one thinks of the hero from Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, Bernard or John are the
characters that come to mind. As the for front male protagonists of the novel, both demonstrating
some of the characteristics governed by a hero, they seem to be the most obvious choice. However,
the true hero of the novel is neither of these characters and is actually one who is deemed
insignificant by both society and the reader and is often overlooked. Linda s characteris in fact the

September 11, 2001 Changed the World Forever Essay
As the blood trickled down the flight attendant s neck, they all prayed that they wouldn t die. A
dark skined man headed toward the front of the plane to claim his next victim. He slowly
pressed the cold, red blade of a knife into the pilot s neck. Many of those who saw screamed.
They all knew, then, that they would die. Passengers felt the plane take some wild turns and they

La discriminaciГіn en nuestra sociedad mexicana
A lo largo de la historia de nuestro paГs, generaciones de pueblos indГgenas han sufrido algГєn

hacia los demГЎs.

(Maupassant, 2008, p. 4). En esta

The Coherence Theory Of Truth Essay
Section 2.2: The Coherence Theory of Truth
In his book Meditations on First Philosophy , Descartes writes that all beliefs, even the most
irresistible convictions, may not correspond to how the world really is; and this is something that
defenders of the correspondence theory are arguably unable to dismiss. As a result, the coherence
theory takes a different approach and argues that a proposition (truth bearer) is true if it fits or
coheres with a specific set of beliefs (truth maker). These beliefs may belong either to the
individual (and include the laws of logic, for example), to human beings at the ultimate stage of
historical development, or to a system of beliefs held by a God or the Absolute (Walker, 1989).
So in the example where Billy believes that dogs have five legs , his claim can be assessed by
considering if this statement coheres with a specific set of true beliefs. For instance, it may be
commonly understood that dogs have four legs not five, that there has never been a dog with more
than four legs, and that no one apart from Billy has ever claimed that dogs can have more than
four legs. Thus, it follows that the key to determining whether Billy s statement is true or false is
internal consistency and logical standards (Dunwoody, 2009, p. 117).
Even though the coherence theory of truth differs from the coherence theory of knowledge, which
states that a belief is justified if the belief coheres with a set of beliefs that forms a coherent system

The Swastika; a symbol that is mostly known for its connection to Hitler and the terrible events
that occurred in the Holocaust. The symbol, which has been used for over three thousand years to
represent life, strength, and good luck by Hindus, Buddhists and Jains, started to be used by
Germany in the 1800s. In 1920, Adolf Hitlerused the symbol of the Swastika to represent his
movement, making the symbol their official flag. Since the use of the flag the swastika has since
became a symbol of hate, violence, death, and murder. People s perspectives of the Swastika

To a normal tourist or residence from India, the presence of the sacred Hindu symbol would be a
well known figure of well being. But in fact it is almost unimaginable that any individual or
group in another country would use the swastika today without intentionally meaning to draw
on the Nazi. In fact, a court in central Russia has recently ordered a local man to now start
covering up during summertime to conceal his swastika tattoo from public view, which is a
public offense under Russian law, punishable by sanctions that range from a fine to 15 days in
prison (Russian, 2014). It is not only the ordinary person who has caused concern about the
symbol in recent years. In 2005, Prince Harry of Britain created a great amount of controversy
when he wore a swastika armband as part of his Halloween costume which was what initially
resulted in the motion for the total ban of the swastika across Europe (Schmidt, 2005). Companies

Sister Carrie Character Analysis
In Sister Carrie, Dreiser uses very detailed descriptions of characters and their appearance. These
are not empty descriptions, each description of the clothes is so convincing that it plays with the
readers senses allowing them to visualize a dynamic cinematic picture (Stankovic 79). For
example, Carrie s total outfit consisted of a small trunk, a cheap imitation alligator skin satchel,
a small lunch in a paper box, and a yellow leather snap purse, containing her ticket, a scrap piece
of paper with her sister s address in Van Buren Street, and four dollars in money (Dreiser 1). Such
a description describes a person who is leaving in a rush with little money and only a scribbled
address, but someone who longs for more, as the imitation alligator skin satchel suggests. She
wants to convey a bit of wealth in her appearance and impression even though the bag is
imitation. Each of these men become the lovers of Carrie in the novel, and she was drawn to
each of them by her impressions of their appearance, but first impressions can be wrong and
appearances can be falsely portrayed. Carrie first succumbs to Drouet, becoming his mistress
acting falsely as his wife. She is later drawn to Hurstwood because of his appearance. When Carrie
meets her lover Drouet, and later Hurstwood, she compares them, measuring their financial
situation by looking at their clothes (Stanovic 81). Notice that Carrie describes Drouet s business
look as appealing, but Hurstwood s includes the

The Philosopher s Stone And The Elixir Of Life
The work I chose for my Independent Reading was the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. I
desired to read this book for quite some time but was adamant about reading it, purely because I did
not want to engage in such a well known classic. Throughout my time hearing about Frankenstein, I
have become brainwashed into believing that the Monster Frankensteinhad created was nothing
more than a mere brainless creatures bent on destruction. I approached this novelwith that mindset.
Just a little while ago, while researching the Philosopher s Stone and the Elixir of Life for methods

moment of anger and admiration, both steaming from the overall plot and characters of the novel
and the figurative concept that protruded between the lines.
Primary, classifying this novel in one of Christopher Booker s The Seven Basic Plots was
undoubtedly a challenge. The challenge began when I realized how the story was told. It was not
merely an intellectual summary of events told as a story by Victor Frankenstein. It was a story,

Underage Drinking Debate
Fort Collins has recently proposed an ordinance that aims at underage drinking. Through this
ordinance, party hosts will be liable for minors under the influence even if they did not supply the
alcohol. This social ordinance would result in a civil violation and fine for individuals who host a
party where underage drinking takes place.
I am in belief that this ordinance would do more harm than good in the Fort Collins community.
Executive director, Gordon Combes, said this ordinance would force party hosts to be more diligent
about preventing underage consumption. The problem with this argument is that the party host
cannot often control if the teen consumes alcohol. If this ordinance were passed, party hosts will be

gastronomy as a major theme include Khushwant Singh s The Wog , Chinua Achebes Things Fall

This means that the way we understand and we relate to food, food practices, is always related
to our identity, in the deepest manner (1). The contrasting food preferences between the two
continue, and this leads to a heightened sense that the relationship is in trouble. After the couple
finishes two very different dinners, Singh states, They sat in silence facing each other across the
table; she chewing her leaf almost like a cow chewing cud, thought Sen. He, lost in the smoke of
his long Cuban cigar. It was oppressive and the barrier between them, impassable (302). Singh s
use of the smoke here acts as metaphor for the cultural barrier between the Sens. Food plays a
role in our identities, and Mr. and Mrs. Sen could not identify with one another. This
phenomenon is certainly not restricted to Mr. and Mrs. Sen, and The Wog does a great job at
displaying the fact that food and drink can have a tremendous impact on relations between
cultures around the world. Food and drink not only have an impact across cultures but also have
an impact on areas such as religion and gender roles within cultures around the world. Achebe s
Things Fall Apart is set in a society that is dominated by food, and this agricultural focus
demonstrates the large effect that food has on the areas of gender roles and religion. The tribe of

Video Games And Its Effects On The World
Video games have been around since the 1950 s due to computer scientists designing and making
A.I and other simulators as research. The video games that people came to love were starting to
be made in the late 1970s to early 1980s. Some would say that games back then were much harder
than the games being produced today. The gameMega Man being a huge contributor to this
statement, due to its very challenging levels and boss stages. While some of that is true, there are
games being made today that are just as hard, if not harder than those made previously. A game
that has become very popular around the world; League of Legends, a multiplayer online battle

After that prepare to have everyone in the game yell at someone for that person doing terribly.
These are the worst ways to get better at League of Legends. Why would someone want to start
playing the game? For one, there is a giant community of 67 million players (Stevenson) to be
precise. Those who can become the best at the game can even make some money playing it, by
playing for a professional team or streaming. Players that aren t so great at the game tend to copy
whatever the best players are doing because they believe: If that player did that well on X
character, that means that champion is good . While in some cases this is true, Those players have
more knowledge about the characters in the game, as well as how they play against other
characters. So someone who is newer to the game might not realize that, when X character is up
against X champion, That they won t do as well as that profesional player did. By copping
something that another player has done that worked for them, does not mean it will work for
everyone and it most certainly wouldn t make a player better. It requires knowledge that comes
with practice. The only way to practice is by playing the game.
Starting with the game, there are many things that someone would need to know about the game.

Origin Myths and Identity in Brittany
For many people, it may be troubling to think of national identity as anything but some dogmatic
ideal, innate to them. After analysis of these identities, however, it becomes clear that frequently
they exist as the result of centuries of almost clinical calculation. The region of France known as
Brittany comes as no exception, with its separate Celtic identity, depends on royal court historians
and linguists alike. The modern understanding of Breton identity exists the way it does primarily
because of three rounds of origin myths, from the medieval period, the early eighteenth century, and
after the French Revolution. To begin with, the use of origin myths to create a culturally
independent Brittanystem back to the medieval period, during which numerous duchies, each
governed by its own duke but still ruled over by a French king, made up France. The relationship
between the duke of Brittany and the king of France, however, started to become tense in the
fourteenth century. During that time, quarrels over royal efforts to regulate ducal coinage, appoint
bishops to Breton, or control private warfare in the duchy led to a power struggle between Duke
John IV and the French monarchs, Charles V and then later his son, Charles VI (Jones, The
Creation of Brittany, 8). In an attempt to retain some form of independence from the king, or to at
least achieve power more significant than that of a vassal, John IV set out to gain the allegiance of
his duchy (Jones, The Creation of

Essay On Drug Addiction
When a person has a drug addiction, they have a disease that has the ability to affect and hurt the
entire family. Everyone in the addict s immediate family is affected in one way or another.
Addiction impacts a family s finances, physical health as well as psychological wellbeing. It can
also cause tension, miscommunication, and more frequent arguments within a household which in
turn creates an unhealthy environment for everyone involved. The addict can be very
unpredictable which can cause anxiety, emotional pain, stress, and a loss of trust because that
person cannot be counted on to follow through with what they say. Frequently, the people who are
addicted don t even realize or believe they are causing these problems within their families. And
unfortunately, they don t view themselves as sick or suffering from a problem, so they don t reach
out for help. When the person finally realizes they may have a problem, they believe the solution is
to escape and run away from their addiction.
In Sonny s Blues, Sonny tells his brother I couldn t tell you when Mama died but the reason I
wanted to leave Harlem so bad was to get away from drugs. And then, when I ran away, that s
what I was running from really. (218) At this point, Sonny is telling his brother he was willing to
leave his family behind to run away from his addiction. But it also shows how misguided he was,
or rather all drug addicts, to think he could just run away from the drugs. Because in the end, he

Taking a Look at Myocardial Infraction
Around every thirty four seconds in the United States, another individual falls as a victim to a
myocardial infraction. A myocardial infraction or more commonly known as a heart attack, occurs
when the blood flow that brings the oxygen to the heart is reduced or cut off completely. When the
blood cannot reach parts of your heart, that area is becoming damaged or unfortunately if
treatment is prolonged for too long then the heart cells will most likely die. Heart attacks can
occur in anybody no matter the age, gender, or nationality, but statistically men over the age of
45 and to women over the age of 55 are at the greatest risk of a heart attack (Ricciotti). In the
1800s George Ebers discovered an ancient Egyptian scroll that has been dated back to around
1500 B.C. On the scroll that Ebers found, it listed many things about the heart and how it worked.
It also showed Ebers that the Egyptians were able to identify certain symptoms of heart attacks, as
well. The scroll that he found showed us how much the ancient Egyptians actually knew about heart
related diseases, despite the technology differences that we have today compared to what they had.
A man named Edwin Smith discovered another scroll dating back to the 17th century. The scroll
that Smith found held evidence of multiple surgeries that were performed, including heart surgeries.
This proves that the real discoverers of heart related illnesses in fact dates back all the way to the
times of the ancient Egyptians.

BI 201
March 22,2017 Viral Manipulation of Cell Death (Zakeri s Cell Death Lab) The cells of a
multicellular organism are members of a highly organized community. The number of cells in this
community is regulated, not by controlling the rate of cell division, but also by controlling the rate
of cell death. If cells are no longer needed, they commit suicide by activating an intracellular death
program. This process is therefore called programmed cell death, although it is more commonly
called apoptosis. Cell death plays a role in development and the process is called, morphogenesis,
the biological process that causes an organism to develop its shape. It also plays a role in the

evident that dengue (DEN) viruses can trigger the host cell to undergo apoptosis in a cell dependent
manner. Virally induced apoptosis contributes directly to the cytopathogenic effects of DEN virus

systems. The cellular factors that regulate cell death can adjust the outcome of DEN virus infection

The Three Types Of Friends
A unusual sense of humor, great advice, and honesty are all things that come to mind when you
think about a friend. Friends are important to have because they are a backbone when things get
tough in life and are always there to love and support. However, anyone who has spent time with
friends will notice that each one has a special personality with respect to their honesty, loyalty, and
care. Basically, friend types can be fallen into four groups; acquaintances, school or activity friends,
and best friends.
The first type of friend is an acquaintance. A acquaintance is someone you know, but you only
have a minor level of relationship with. You probably do not have any intimacy with them aside
from sharing some very shallow sorts of facts about your life. That is, you only know their name.
Sometimes you might not even remember them if you go away for vacation. Usually you meet
these people in school, at work, or on the bus. When they are anywhere, you don t miss them. We

Dominance of the Ohio Valley Region Essay
Dominance of the Ohio Valley Region
The Ohio Valley Region was known as the American frontier during the time period from 1760 to
1813. The white expansion into the Ohio Valley Region brought about the decline and the eventual
dissolution of the Native American way of life. The struggles of the French and English in the north
and the westward push of American settlers in the south were met with unified pro nativist
resistance. The individual struggles of three men characterize the turmoil between whites and
Native Americans. Pontiac s war against the English, Tecumseh s organization of a unified Indian
Confederation, and Daniel Boone s leadership in the western migration into Kentucky demonstrate

In turn, the French protected the Indians and supplied them with guns, gunpowder, ammunition for
hunting, and with provisions during harsh winters (Hough, xii). This European influence had
radically changed the lives of the Great Lakes tribes. By the time of Pontiac s boyhood, the stone
and bone tools of his people had been replaced by steel axes, knives, and traps (Hough, viii).
In the 1740s, commercial competition between France and Great Britain had intensified, and war
broke out in 1744. Ottawa warriors fought on the side of the French, as they did in all four major
wars from 1689 1763 (Eckert, 127).
British forces under British Commander in chief Sir Jeffrey Amherst swept through the Great
Lakes region, seizing control of most of the French forts by 1760. Amherst was well known to be
arrogant and contemptuous of the Indians. He insisted that the good behavior of the natives should
be bought with fear.
Under British occupation, unrest grew among the tribes (Hough,xii0). Pontiac called a meeting
of Ottawa, Chippewa, Huron, Potawatomi and other Lake tribes. Pontiac was a powerful orator
as well as warrior, and possessed a keen intelligence and skill as a strategist. He spoke to the
council of the wrongs they had suffered under the British and spoke of the Master of Life and his
urging for the Indians to turn back to their old ways. The warriors

Society is more pleased living under the suppressions and misrepresentations of our culture, as
opposed to coping with the truth and what comes along with it. Forest Gump is a person that
many would label a contemporary holy fool which means that he possesses an extreme innocence
that enables him to do great things. His mental incapabilities have their obvious disadvantages, but
what is more worthy of discussion are the, not so obvious, advantages. His idealistic and
optimistic view of the world and his innocence blind him to the evil in people, and consequently;
he is able to find the best in each person he encounters. Robert Zemeckis directed the film in such a
way to emphasize the notion that simple is better which ties with his main theme of destiny.
Zemeckis also implies, through large contradictions in Gump s personality, that Gump s character is
an impossibility in real life.
Gump is able to surmount all of society s restrictions. Even when he was a little boy people were
trying to straighten him out with leg braces, but sure enough, he broke out of those. This pivotal
moment in the movie marks the beginning of an absolutely great and optimistic lifestyle. However,
Gump is not completely void of restrictions. He respects authority because of his mother, whom he

Compare and Contrast Helen- HD POE Essay

In the poems, To Helen and Helen , both Edgar Allan Poe and H.D. emphasize the beauty of the
infamous Helen of Troy; however, the speakers attitudes differ as one praises and worships Helen
while the other condemns her for her treachery and remains unmoved by her beauty. Although both
poems discuss Helen of Troy, both speakers withhold different perspectives within the first stanza.
In To Helenthe speaker sets Helen on a pedestal as he uses the apostrophe Helen, thy beauty is to

the opposite as she is the glory that was Greece (Poe, line 9) and the grandeur that was Rome (Poe,

style and structure of To Helen contribute to the persona s romantic notion of Helen of Troy. The

line 13) which shines light on Greece and she is Psyche, from the regions , which Are Holy

harshly believes that the only way that she can be praised for her beauty is if she was laid, white

Helen the face that launched a thousand ships , differs as her beauty praised as a heroine

Jonas Salk Vaccine
Our world to this day has been impacted so much by many different heros of all different types.
One such hero is Jonas Salk, the creator of the vaccines for polio and influenza. Salk became a
cultivator of modern medicine by creating a vaccine that saved countless lives without the benefit
of modern technology.
Jonas Salk was born in 1914, a time in which childhood disease and illness was great and
commonly led to death. He grew up into a wealthy family and was the first of his siblings to
graduate college. Salk went to college and intended study law but became interested in medical
science. There were no known cures for major illnesses such as influenza and polio. In 1939, Salk
became a scientist physician and a short time later began conducting research on cures for major
illnesses, which later led to a great amount of success.
In 1942, Salk was first called on to begin researching and conducting experiments on an illness
called influenza, also known as the flu. Influenza is a disease that is highly contagious and almost

patient in the process. Although technology has taken over, Salk found a way to cure diseases
without using technology. He was able to find a cure in less than 5 years which successfully
worked. Salk tested the cure out on his wife, and their 3 sons. The amount of polio cases
dramatically dropped from 28,985 in 1955 to 5,894 in 1957. He had a huge impact on our worlds
death rates. Soon after his research for Aids, Salk died, but his method of vaccinations

The Destruction Of Self Individuality In America Today
The Destruction of Self Individuality In a world where people are edged to act as their own,
comes the contradiction of perspicacity. If, and when, what you do, wear, or feel doesn t align
with society s description of ideal; it then falls as an act of rebellion, misconduct, or the seeking
of attention. Today, as individuals of society, we are eradicating each other other not by the
temperament of a person, but by the image we portray everyone to be. Anything more or less
than that is anathema. Individuality is limited and under attack in America today. The
destruction of self individuality takes place during all stages of life, not just as an adolescent.
Although children often do not take into consideration the thoughts of those around them, does
not make them any less susceptible to it. As children we are taught that pink is a girl color and
blue is for boys, girls play will dolls and boys play with trucks, girls must always behave properly
and boys will be boys . We limit the desired toys they want, option of favorite colors, and the
option of distinct originality. We often do not realize the restrictions we set on the younger
generations because those are the rules of society, and we must play the game. As the teenage years
approach, we enforce more rules at a stricter rate. At this point in time, what you... Show more

The limitations are set out far worse than the few examples mentioned. Our society is not very
accepting of anything over or under what we consider normal, and that s the thing. This is our
society that we are all a part of, and are all guilty of being a part of the destruction. There will
never be a change until the realization is clear to all. If we want a change, it starts with us.

Difference Between Physical Health And Mental Health
Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of
disease or infirmity. WHO definition of health.
This definition has not been amended since 1948.
Health can be broadly studied as Physical Health and Mental Health.
Physical Health: For most people, physical health implies good body health which is achieved with
regular exercise, good nutrition and the required amount of rest. Physical wellbeing is defined as
something a person can achieve by improving all health related aspects in his/her lifestyle. Major
components of complete physical wellbeing may include proper diet, bodyweight management,
being away from drugs, avoiding alcohol abuse, responsible sexual behaviour (sexual health),
hygiene, and getting the right amount of sleep.
Mental Health: Mental health refers to people s cognitive and emotional well being. According to
WHO, mental health is a state of well being in which the individual realizes his or her own
abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able
to make a contribution to his or her community . It is equally agreed that mental health includes the

The Causes Of Lysosomal Diseases
More dysregulated metabolites were identified in the liver (n=177) than that in the brain (n=122).
Notably, there are more amino acid, amino acid derivatives and dipeptides identified in livers
(mostly upregulated). These results are expected because the liver is the primary site of
metabolism. In terms of pathways enriched, significant involvement of neurotransmission and
chemical synaptic transmission were observed in the brain. Meanwhile, there are several pathways
only enriched in livers, including gamma glutamyl cycle, leukotriene biosynthesis, Phase II
conjugation and glutathione synthesis, which are mainly associated with oxidative stress and
inflammation. The energy imbalance in SD leads to increased respiratory chain activity in... Show

The oxidative stress can cause cell damage, resulting in inflammation, which has also been found
to be a major contributor to disease progression of GM2 gangliosidosis [17]. In this study, we
identified elevation in glutathione pathways, which plays a pivotal role in responses to oxidative
stress. Another evidence of inflammation is reduced levels of arachidonic acid, an omega 6 fatty
acid, in brain samples of SD mice. Oxidation of arachidonic acid can generate leukotrienes, a
family of eicosanoid inflammatory mediators produced in leukocytes, and thus promote
inflammation. The increased energy requirements can also activate autophagy and protein
catabolism, which have been found in MPS I and MPS VII mice [13]. In this study, we found
increased levels of amino acids, amino acid derivatives and dipeptides, indicating increased protein
catabolism. Increased requirements of energy and raw materials can also activate lipid metabolism
and carbohydrate metabolism, manifested by decreased adiposity, a common observation in many
lysosomal diseases [18 20]. In addition, the enlarged lysosome and distended cells due to abnormal
accumulation requires increased membrane synthesis, which can also affect lipid metabolism. Our
previous proteomic analysis [21] also identified abnormality in the cytoskeleton system, which can
be partially attributed to altered cellular architecture due to storage accumulation. Collectively, we
show here that the energy imbalance caused by the lack of

From June till September 1692 nineteen men and women died for being accused of being a

The Asterick-Parallel
In 2001, the International Congress on Medieval Studies at Western Michigan University in
Kalamazoo allowed three sessions on Tolkien to be presented. That seminal event was the nucleus
from which this collection sprang. For forty years, editor Jane Chance, Professor Emerita in
English at Rice University, has written and taught on medieval literature, medieval culture,
medieval women and modern medievalism. She has authored or edited five critical studies of
Tolkien s work, as well as numerous scholarly articles. In her introduction, Chance notes that since
Peter Jackson began filming The Lord of the Ringsin 1999, there has been a parallel rise in interest
in his writings and books about his writings (1). Additionally, the publication... Show more content

The first essay, by John William Houghton, cast a very interesting light on Tolkien s creation myth.
Houghton uses asterisk in Augustine in the cottage of lost play: the AinulindalГ« as asterisk
cosmogony as Shippey used asterisk reality in his description of Tolkien s creative process. Asterick
realities may be based on assumptions which are imaginative, but they must be internally cohesive.
Houghton s essay considers the AinulindalГ« as a cohesive construction within Tolkien s world
which also fits neatly amongst the real cosmogonies known to early medieval Europe (171). He
examines how Saint Augustine, writing at the turn of the fifth century, understood the Old
Testament book of Genesis. Augustine was apparently a careful and meticulous student of the text,
which Tolkien surely would have appreciated. Tolkien chose to clothe his creation in the language
of music, but Houghton shows where the concepts beneath the imagery would fit easily into
Augustine s understanding of creation. This essay was most valuable to me on a few points about
sub creation and the role of Man in God s

It may be because of complex, ineffective flow in communication as a result of un integrated
information system in JAS. : Low performance in liquidity may be resulted from poor inventory
management and ineffective costs control. Firstly, JAS is facing the cash flow problem because
of having too many stocks in warehouse. Secondly, un integrated information system brings
some difficulties in costs control. In timely and inaccurate customers financial data makes JAS
difficult to retrieve debtors effectively. 2.2.2 Market The UK Government policies encourage
citizens to use more bicycles instead of other transportations as possible as they can because of
the congestion and air pollution. In addition, increasingly number of people has treated cycling
as an exercise, trip and healthy lifestyle, which promotes the consumption of bicycle. These
contribute to the boost of bicycle industry. However, JAS has gained relatively lower market
share over the last few years. The level of competitive intensity has a significant impact on JAS s
sales and profit. Firstly, as a medium sized company providing high quality bicycles, JAS has
been receiving increasing competition from its existing rivals who offer similar products but
relatively lower price because of their economies of scale. Some rivals benefit from their high
production or lower cost of material and labour, leading to competitive advantage in the
marketplace, such as high quality with the relatively lower

The disillusionment of American dream in the Great Gatsby and Tender is the night
Chapter I Introduction
F. Scott Fitzgerald is the spokesman of the Jazz Age and is also one of the greatest novelists in the
20th century. His novels mainly deal with the theme of the disillusionment of the American dream
of the self made young men in the 20th century. In this thesis, Fitzgerald s two most important
novels The Great Gatsby(2003) and Tender is the Night(2005) are analyzed. Both these two novels
tell us the story of the pursuit and failure of the American dream of the young men in the twenties.

allowed to forget that both Jay Gatsby and Dick Diver are the representative figures of the
American dream of the 20th century. Both these two men come from a family with little or no

The Melting Point And Boiling Point
Results The results show that the highest melting point was 4 Hydroxybenzoic Acid and the lowest
melting point was Sulfosalicylic Acid. The highest boiling point was Octanol and lowest boiling
point was Methanol. When it came to the percent error the highest percent error calculated was
pentanol and the lowest percent error was Propanol.
Discussion
During this lab the melting point ranges and boiling points were recorded from several
substances. Based upon the structures of these various samples certain trends were expected to
be followed. For example, with the melting points of pure substances are usually higher than the
melting points of impure substances. In this lab the melting point of Benzoic Acid, Salicylic
Acid, 3 Hydroxybenzoic Acid, 4 Hydroxybenzoic Acid, and Sulfosalicylic Acid were taken. If we
apply the concept of pure substances having higher boiling points, it was expected for substances
like 3 Hydroxybenzoic Acid and 4 Hydroxybenzoic Acid to have higher melting points and for
substances like Benzoic Acid and Salicylic Acid to have lower melting points. As for Sulfosalicylic
Acid, its melting point was the lowest so it was assumed that the substance was the most impure. It
was proven that the fewer impurities call for higher melting points. This is due to the crystalline
lattices structure of repeating ions or molecules. This lattice is held together by intermolecular
forces that create a strong, stable structure. The solid must be heated to a certain

Paean Etymology
Etymology The name of Apollo itself though not Paean, a possible name of a precursor god to or
epithet of him is generally considered to be absent from the Linear B (Mycenean Greek) texts
although it is possible that the name is in fact attested in the lacunose form ]pe rjo [ (Linear B: ]J
[) on the KN E 842 tablet.[4][5][6] The etymology of the name is uncertain. The spelling
бј€
ПЂПЊО»О»П‰ОЅ (pronounced [a.pГіl.lЙ”Лђn] in Classical Attic) had almost superseded all
other forms by the beginning of the common era, but the Doric form Apellon
(бј€
ПЂОО»О»П‰ОЅ), is more archaic, derived from an earlier *бј€
ПЂОО»jП‰ОЅ. It probably
is a cognate to the Doric month Apellaios (бј€
ПЂОµО»О»О±бї–ОїП‚),[7] and the offerings
apellaia (бјЂПЂОµО»О»О±бї–О±) at the initiation of the young men during the family festival

R. S. P. Beekes rejected the connection of the theonym with the noun apellai and suggested a Pre
Greek proto form *Apalyun.[12] Several instances of popular etymology are attested from ancient
authors. Thus, the Greeks most often associated Apollo s name with the Greek verb
бјЂПЂПЊО»О»П…ОјО№ (apollymi), to destroy .[13] Plato in Cratylus connects the name with
бјЂПЂПЊО»П…ПѓО№П‚ (apolysis), redemption , with бјЂПЂПЊО»ОїП…ПѓО№П‚
(apolousis), purification , and with бјЃПЂО»Оїбї¦ОЅ ([h]aploun), simple ,[14] in particular in
reference to the Thessalian form of the name, бјЊПЂО»ОїП…ОЅ, and finally with
бј€
ОµО№ОІО¬О»О»П‰ОЅ (aeiballon), ever shooting . Hesychius connects the name Apollo with
the Doric бјЂПЂОО»О»О± (apella), which means assembly , so that Apollo would be the god of
political life, and he also gives the explanation ПѓО·ОєПЊП‚ (sekos), fold , in which case Apollo
would be the god of flocks and herds. In the Ancient Macedonian language ПЂОО»О»О± (pella)
means stone, and some toponyms may be derived from this word: О ОО»О»О± (Pella,[15] the
capital of Ancient Macedonia) and О ОµО»О»О®ОЅО· (PellД“nД“/Pallene). A

Essay On Rituals
In this essay I am going to discuss how anthropologists come to see ritual as a way of making
history. Rituals are an important role in the cultural society and play a significant role in the way
we live our lives. Rituals give us a feeling of security and loyalty towards a certain group. They are
also a main part of religion, and that is where they are commonly found. Studying the differences
between various cultures help lead us to a better understanding of how rituals influence our lives.
We perform and participate in rituals to show our devotion to our values and beliefs, and also to
strengthen unity within a group. Anthropologists believe that rituals have been in existence since
the very beginning of our time. Rituals could be believe what has kept us here so long, That is
evidence as to how important they are and without this practice, we possibly would not be
equipped with the security or solidarity needed to survive this world. Inevitably, there are certain
things in life that we are unable to control, regardless of how hard we try. The case studies discuss
rituals in societies, and how these rituals deal with the past and challenge the present. As a result we
have a representation of the past and present life changing experiences.... Show more content on

Rituals display and reinforce group membership and identity. There are two types of rituals, the
rites of intensification and the rites of passage. The rites of intensification displays and reinforces
group membership, social status and hierarchy. Rites of passage include stages of separation (from
old identity), transition / liminality and reincorporation into a new state. The relationship between
rituals and history has two dimensions. There is rituals in history, how rituals changes over time
and there is a ritual as history. As a representation of the

Class and Politics in Renaissance London
When Thomas Middleton and Thomas Dekker wrote their Roaring Girl in 1611, they based it
loosely on Mary Frith, who was frequenting taverns and playhouses in men s clothing in London
and had to appear in front of the court. Moll is the name of half the prostitutes in London and in
their play; we meet Moll Cutpurse, the Roaring Girl. Dekker and Middleton use the unusual girl to
criticize the London society. Moll goes between classes to evaluate the people in London as is
shown when she talks to Sir Thomas and Lord Noland, stating
When next, my lord, you spy any of one of those,
So he be in his art a scholar, question him,

On the other hand, the writers might show their audience that in order to grow into an expert a
thief was not that different from a university schooled person; both had to spend a long time to
learn their art , the art of thievery and the art of literary work. Moll conveys that to be good at
stealing, the person had to spend a long time of practicing, as well, just as the scholar who spend a
lot of time reading and studying his books. Therefore, a thief is not that different from a person of
the upper class, even though the latter probably looks down upon the rogues.
Moll continues with that comparison when she says that thieves have to study in a book as
well, when the literary rate was probably not that high in the lower class. Yet she says to open
the large book / of his close villainies (5.1.306), as if there was a large book similar to a textbook
which would contain all the secrets of stealing. The secrets are held close to oneself, so a
personal relationship is implied as well. Close might also mean that when people are pertaining
in villainies acts, the way back into respectable society is closed to them. This does not mean
only the people whose occupation it is to steal, because together with the scholarly comparison
Moll includes upper class and learned people as well. In addition, people might be closed minded
and see the thieves only as scum of the city, when in reality there

The Mafia Essay
The Mafia
The Mafia is a secret criminal organization that has great economic and political control over
large parts of Sicilian society and operates both criminal and legitimate enterprises in the United
States. It is believed to have started during Sicily s late Middle Ages, beginning as separate bonds
of strong arm enforcers hired by local landowners. It eventually evolved into a network of
independent groups governing in rural areas. With the Sicilian immigration of the late 19th century,
the Mafia began to operate in several large United States cities. During the period of Prohibition it
monopolized the trade in bootleg liquor and controlled loan sharking, gambling, and prostitution.

There was always the incredible possibility of violent death if you made one wrong move. Sammy
Gravano, who grew up in Brooklyn, earned his nickname for his courage and refusal to be
bullied, even by much larger, much older kids. He chose to become a wise guy and was
eventually a made member of the Colombo crime family, moving from smaller crimes such as
burglaries and stickups to the larger operations of gambling, loan sharking operations, and the
occasional mob sanctioned murder. Gravano was horrified at the Mafia s slow transition from its
traditional low profile and traditional refusal to involve civilians in its assignations. Gravano tells
how the Mafia controlled the construction business in New York and describes the significant hits
on such figures as Paul Castellano and more than a dozen other Mafioso, all of which were not
solved until Gravano provided the needed information to law enforcement officials. Gravano
never believed that he would ever turn against his associates and still refuses to blow the whistle
on those who he considers his friends. When Gotti, however, took over as the mob boss and
flaunted his newfound fame, courting the media, and endangering the future of their secret
operations, he grew increasingly more disgusted. John just fell in love with himself, Gravano says
in the book. Due in part to Gotti s actions and his tendency to believe his own press

Secondhand Lions Film Analysis
The director s use of film techniques showed significant changes through the characters in the film
Secondhand Lions .The big, significant events that changed the characters are when Hub said to
Walter that he will stay around to say his man speech , when Walter found out his mother was lying
and when Walter jumps out of the car. This was done through camera angles, storyline, music and
much more.
The first important event that started shaping Walter is when he finds out that his mother lied to
him. Mae said I m going to be working my tail off learning court reporting ; instead she dumps
him off at his two uncles house and goes to Las Vegas. Walter finds this out by a phone call to
The Fort Worth College of Court Reporting. They say that his mother never enrolled. At the
moment, the director uses camera angles and music to display to the audience how Walter feels.
He shows a close up from above to show Walter is weak and he put sad, awful music to inform the
audience how Walter feels. However, this is not the case with Hub.... Show more content on

Analysis Of After Apple Picking By Robert Frost
After Apple Picking is an early work by Robert Frost. The poem portrays the hypnagogia of sleep
by describing the fleeting moments before the speaker falls into deep slumber. The poem is
written in the first person point of view and is most likely a depiction of Frost himself. Frost
wrote this poem when he was around forty to fifty years old. In the twentieth century, he would
have been considered to be close to the end of his life and this could have been his initial
inspiration for the poem. Allusions to winter and frost also lead to the idea that Robert Frost may
have been referring to himself throughout the poem. Whether or not the speaker is Frost is of little
importance, what does matter is that the speaker is someone who has... Show more content on

The mid level diction, that dominates most of the poem, is highlighted in these first couple of
lines. This level of diction creates a happy tone that celebrates heaven and the afterlife while
contemplating the reality of life here on earth. Phrases such as I was well and I could tell create a
sense of rhyme and repetition that assures us that the speaker is still in control and doing fine,
this initial portrayal of the speaker conflicts with the rest of the poem which takes on a more
melancholy mood after line eighteen. Visual and olfactory imagery are also portrayed through
specific word choice. Words such as essence and scent introduce the element of smell in the
poem, while words such as glass, skimmed, and hoary convey the visual element. The vivid
pastoral sensory imagery in the poem emphasizes the image of an apple, this motif alludes to the
fall in Genesis and becomes an allegory for the Garden of Eden. Likewise, the speaker s thoughts
of falling ice allude to Freud s iceberg personality theory. These allusions suggest both worldly
corruption and a loss of innocence. This is emphasized through the repetition of the word fall,
which in this case has the connotation of sin associated with it. The imagery used here also draws
biblical allusions to Jacob s ladder. The allusions draw attention to the corruption and downfall of
mankind. Through the use of figurative language, the extended metaphor of apple

  • 2. Effects Of The First Great Awakening Dbq There were many events that occured prior to the American Revolution and aided in bringing it to fruition. The First Great Awakening in the 1730s and 1740s presented a new logic that had people begin to reflect on the spirituality in daily life, causing a majority of colonists to question the rule of Great Britain over them. The religious impact in the colonists from the Great Awakening caused the ministers to lose authority among those who now studied the Bible in their own homes. With this change in the authority in religion, it also changed the way some people political authority, as if they did not need to rely on the higher power of a minister, the there is no need of a higher power ruling over the government. This thinking also caused the The long term effect of the American... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Indians were not included into the peace made with Great Britain, as stated in Document 3, but many Native American tribes such as the Shawnee, Creek, and Cherokee sided with the British. They had hoped for a British victory that would continue to restrain the land hungry colonial settlers from moving west beyond the Appalachian Mountains. The Indians were left to roam the wilderness. Native Americans, too, participated in and were affected by the Revolution. Unfortunately, the Americans victory and Native Americans support for the British created a pretense for justifying the rapid, and often brutal expansion into the western territories. Native American tribes would continue to be displaced and pushed further west throughout the nineteenth century. Ultimately, American independence marked the beginning of the end of what had remained of Native American independence. • 3. The Pros And Cons Of Students In Single Gender Schools Have studies proved that segregating students by gender leads them to do better in school? Students learn better in single gender schools. This is because in single gender schools, students tend to be able to concentrate more. Boys and girls are also academically different, so separating them by gender, would benefit students in their academics. Lastly, boys and girls feel less pressured in single gender schools. Those are three main reasons why students do better in single gender schools. One reason why students do better in single gender schools is because they are able to concentrate more. According to an article published by UCLA, it states that boys are less competitive and more cooperative in single gender environments. Students also,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gender stereotyping is what someone thinks a man or women are supposed to be. Boys think that girls are supposed to be quiet and smart, and not play sports. This is what a boys stereotype of what a girl is supposed to be. In a single gender environment, students learn to love themselves, and learn to be who they are. That is why single gender schools, don t promote as much gender stereotyping as co ed schools do, and are a better learning environment for students. To conclude, students learn better in single gender schools. This is because it is easier for students to concentrate, this makes it less complicated for students to learn. Another reason is because boys and girls are academically different, so in a single gender environment, teachers can focus on how that specific gender learns. • 4. Brown V Board Of Education Landmark Supreme Court Cases пЃ¬Brown v Board of Education (1954) пѓ The Background: In the 1950 s, schools were separated by race. Linda Brown and her sister had to walk down a dangerous railroad switchyard to get to the bus stop to their all black elementary school. There was an all white school closer to the Brown s house, and the Brown family believed that segregated schools violated the Constitution. пѓ The Constitutional Issue: This issue violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth amendment because segregated schools for people of race are unconstitutional and unequal. пѓ The Outcome: The Supreme Court states that segregated schools could never be equal to each other. The Court decided that laws requiring separate schools violated the Fourteenth Amendment. This decision supports that all people are equal. As a student, I am affected because people of different race are welcome to go to school where I go to school. пЃ¬Mapp v Ohio (1961) пѓ The Background: The police were suspicious of Dollree Mapp hiding a person suspected in a bombing. They went to her house and demanded entrance, but Mapp would not let them in because they did not have a warrant. The police broke into her house and found evidence of crime. At the trial, the police could not show their warrant at the U.S. Supreme Court. пѓ The Constitutional Issue: This violated the Fourth Amendment, because the Fourth Amendment protects the people from unreasonable search and seizure by the government. пѓ The ... But in spite of this fact some people contrived to earn $80 000, it was famous baseball player Babe Ruth. Even the President Herberd Hoover had a lesser salary of $75 000. When Ruth was asked if he thought it was right that his salary was higher than President s he replied that he had a better year. Year of 2007 describes a different picture. The average baseball player gets paid $4.8 million. We consider the fact that the cost of living, products and services has grown in recent decades. But it does not give us any explanation if Babe Ruth had a better standard of living than the average baseball player now, because prices for goods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example one year pizza Margarita costs $10 and pizza Pepperoni costs $12, consumers will buy more Margarita then Pepperoni. But the next year the price of pizza Margarita rises and Pepperoni s price falls, in this way consumers will buy chipper pizza. But when computing CPI the number of goods is fixed and in this way the index will show rise of the cost of living, but in reality the increase is lower. Introduction of new goods since consumer have the variety of goods to buy every dollar becomes more valuable. In reality introduction of new goods causes a decrease of the cost of living, but CPI overstates real changes in the cost of living. Unmeasured quality change some types of goods and services improve their quality over time, what increases its price. It is difficult to measure quality of the good or service that is why CPI is overstated, because economists try to adjust the price to its quality. The GDP Deflator versus the Consumer Price Index Two measures of inflation the GDP Deflator and CPI are usually move together, as it is shown on the graph (http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/2008/08/variation on the gdpinflation chart/) below. The GDP Deflator reflects goods and services produced within the country and CPI reflects goods and services consumed within a country. The CPI increases if price of any imported good rises, but it happens vice versa with GDP Deflator. We can see it on the example of imported oil. When the price of oil raises the ... But when one thinks of Disney movies, which movie pops up first? Is it Cinderella, Pocahontas, Sleeping Beauty or something else? Many movies have been released by Disney but it seems as if throughout the years only certain ones continue to thrive and have gained more popularity than others. Several of these movies have to do with the recurring theme of a Caucasian female princess and male hero. When one looks at the movies that contain ethnic characters it seems they are either stereotyped or used as background, except for the small percentage where the ethnic characteris the lead role. What will be discussed is the quality, quantity, and accuracy of ethnic characters in Disney animated films. When it comes to quality of the movies, there will be comparison on how certain ones received more attention to detail and design. For example, in the movie Frozen there are several components such as the snow, clothing and overall images that came into great detail upon how it would be executed. • 12. • 13. The Coherence Theory Of Truth Essay Section 2.2: The Coherence Theory of Truth In his book Meditations on First Philosophy , Descartes writes that all beliefs, even the most irresistible convictions, may not correspond to how the world really is; and this is something that defenders of the correspondence theory are arguably unable to dismiss. As a result, the coherence theory takes a different approach and argues that a proposition (truth bearer) is true if it fits or coheres with a specific set of beliefs (truth maker). These beliefs may belong either to the individual (and include the laws of logic, for example), to human beings at the ultimate stage of historical development, or to a system of beliefs held by a God or the Absolute (Walker, 1989). So in the example where Billy believes that dogs have five legs , his claim can be assessed by considering if this statement coheres with a specific set of true beliefs. For instance, it may be commonly understood that dogs have four legs not five, that there has never been a dog with more than four legs, and that no one apart from Billy has ever claimed that dogs can have more than four legs. Thus, it follows that the key to determining whether Billy s statement is true or false is internal consistency and logical standards (Dunwoody, 2009, p. 117). Even though the coherence theory of truth differs from the coherence theory of knowledge, which states that a belief is justified if the belief coheres with a set of beliefs that forms a coherent system (Audi, ... These are not empty descriptions, each description of the clothes is so convincing that it plays with the readers senses allowing them to visualize a dynamic cinematic picture (Stankovic 79). For example, Carrie s total outfit consisted of a small trunk, a cheap imitation alligator skin satchel, a small lunch in a paper box, and a yellow leather snap purse, containing her ticket, a scrap piece of paper with her sister s address in Van Buren Street, and four dollars in money (Dreiser 1). Such a description describes a person who is leaving in a rush with little money and only a scribbled address, but someone who longs for more, as the imitation alligator skin satchel suggests. She wants to convey a bit of wealth in her appearance and impression even though the bag is imitation. Each of these men become the lovers of Carrie in the novel, and she was drawn to each of them by her impressions of their appearance, but first impressions can be wrong and appearances can be falsely portrayed. Carrie first succumbs to Drouet, becoming his mistress acting falsely as his wife. She is later drawn to Hurstwood because of his appearance. • 22. Origin Myths and Identity in Brittany For many people, it may be troubling to think of national identity as anything but some dogmatic ideal, innate to them. After analysis of these identities, however, it becomes clear that frequently they exist as the result of centuries of almost clinical calculation. The region of France known as Brittany comes as no exception, with its separate Celtic identity, depends on royal court historians and linguists alike. The modern understanding of Breton identity exists the way it does primarily because of three rounds of origin myths, from the medieval period, the early eighteenth century, and after the French Revolution. To begin with, the use of origin myths to create a culturally independent Brittanystem back to the medieval period, during which numerous duchies, each governed by its own duke but still ruled over by a French king, made up France. The relationship between the duke of Brittany and the king of France, however, started to become tense in the fourteenth century. During that time, quarrels over royal efforts to regulate ducal coinage, appoint bishops to Breton, or control private warfare in the duchy led to a power struggle between Duke John IV and the French monarchs, Charles V and then later his son, Charles VI (Jones, The Creation of Brittany, 8). In an attempt to retain some form of independence from the king, or to at least achieve power more significant than that of a vassal, John IV set out to gain the allegiance of his duchy (Jones, The Creation of ... When the blood cannot reach parts of your heart, that area is becoming damaged or unfortunately if treatment is prolonged for too long then the heart cells will most likely die. Heart attacks can occur in anybody no matter the age, gender, or nationality, but statistically men over the age of 45 and to women over the age of 55 are at the greatest risk of a heart attack (Ricciotti). In the 1800s George Ebers discovered an ancient Egyptian scroll that has been dated back to around 1500 B.C. On the scroll that Ebers found, it listed many things about the heart and how it worked. It also showed Ebers that the Egyptians were able to identify certain symptoms of heart attacks, as well. The scroll that he found showed us how much the ancient Egyptians actually knew about heart related diseases, despite the technology differences that we have today compared to what they had. A man named Edwin Smith discovered another scroll dating back to the 17th century. The scroll that Smith found held evidence of multiple surgeries that were performed, including heart surgeries. This proves that the real discoverers of heart related illnesses in fact dates back all the way to the times of the ancient Egyptians. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Salk went to college and intended study law but became interested in medical science. There were no known cures for major illnesses such as influenza and polio. In 1939, Salk became a scientist physician and a short time later began conducting research on cures for major illnesses, which later led to a great amount of success. In 1942, Salk was first called on to begin researching and conducting experiments on an illness called influenza, also known as the flu. If, and when, what you do, wear, or feel doesn t align with society s description of ideal; it then falls as an act of rebellion, misconduct, or the seeking of attention. Today, as individuals of society, we are eradicating each other other not by the temperament of a person, but by the image we portray everyone to be. Anything more or less than that is anathema. Individuality is limited and under attack in America today. The destruction of self individuality takes place during all stages of life, not just as an adolescent. Although children often do not take into consideration the thoughts of those around them, does not make them any less susceptible to it. As children we are taught that pink is a girl color and blue is for boys, girls play will dolls and boys play with trucks, girls must always behave properly and boys will be boys . We limit the desired toys they want, option of favorite colors, and the option of distinct originality. In terms of pathways enriched, significant involvement of neurotransmission and chemical synaptic transmission were observed in the brain. The oxidative stress can cause cell damage, resulting in inflammation, which has also been found to be a major contributor to disease progression of GM2 gangliosidosis [17]. In this study, we identified elevation in glutathione pathways, which plays a pivotal role in responses to oxidative stress. Another evidence of inflammation is reduced levels of arachidonic acid, an omega 6 fatty acid, in brain samples of SD mice. Oxidation of arachidonic acid can generate leukotrienes, a family of eicosanoid inflammatory mediators produced in leukocytes, and thus promote inflammation. The increased energy requirements can also activate autophagy and protein catabolism, which have been found in MPS I and MPS VII mice [13]. In this study, we found increased levels of amino acids, amino acid derivatives and dipeptides, indicating increased protein catabolism. Increased requirements of energy and raw materials can also activate lipid metabolism and carbohydrate metabolism, manifested by decreased adiposity, a common observation in many lysosomal diseases [18 20]. In addition, the enlarged lysosome and distended cells due to abnormal accumulation requires increased membrane synthesis, which can also affect lipid metabolism. Our previous proteomic analysis [21] also identified abnormality in the cytoskeleton system, which can be partially attributed to altered cellular architecture due to storage accumulation. Houghton s essay considers the AinulindalГ« as a cohesive construction within Tolkien s world which also fits neatly amongst the real cosmogonies known to early medieval Europe (171). He examines how Saint Augustine, writing at the turn of the fifth century, understood the Old Testament book of Genesis. The highest boiling point was Octanol and lowest boiling point was Methanol. When it came to the percent error the highest percent error calculated was pentanol and the lowest percent error was Propanol. Discussion During this lab the melting point ranges and boiling points were recorded from several substances. Based upon the structures of these various samples certain trends were expected to be followed. For example, with the melting points of pure substances are usually higher than the melting points of impure substances. In this lab the melting point of Benzoic Acid, Salicylic Acid, 3 Hydroxybenzoic Acid, 4 Hydroxybenzoic Acid, and Sulfosalicylic Acid were taken. If we apply the concept of pure substances having higher boiling points, it was expected for substances like 3 Hydroxybenzoic Acid and 4 Hydroxybenzoic Acid to have higher melting points and for substances like Benzoic Acid and Salicylic Acid to have lower melting points. As for Sulfosalicylic Acid, its melting point was the lowest so it was assumed that the substance was the most impure. It was proven that the fewer impurities call for higher melting points. Paean Etymology Etymology The name of Apollo itself though not Paean, a possible name of a precursor god to or epithet of him is generally considered to be absent from the Linear B (Mycenean Greek) texts although it is possible that the name is in fact attested in the lacunose form ]pe rjo [ (Linear B: ]J [) on the KN E 842 tablet.[4][5][6] The etymology of the name is uncertain. The spelling бј€ ПЂПЊО»О»П‰ОЅ (pronounced [a.pГіl.lЙ”Лђn] in Classical Attic) had almost superseded all other forms by the beginning of the common era, but the Doric form Apellon (бј€ ПЂОО»О»П‰ОЅ), is more archaic, derived from an earlier *бј€ ПЂОО»jП‰ОЅ. It probably is a cognate to the Doric month Apellaios (бј€ ПЂОµО»О»О±бї–ОїП‚),[7] and the offerings apellaia (бјЂПЂОµО»О»О±бї–О±) at the initiation of the young men during the family festival apellai (бјЂПЂОО»О»О±О№).[8][9] According to some scholars... Rituals are an important role in the cultural society and play a significant role in the way we live our lives. Rituals give us a feeling of security and loyalty towards a certain group. They are also a main part of religion, and that is where they are commonly found. Studying the differences between various cultures help lead us to a better understanding of how rituals influence our lives. We perform and participate in rituals to show our devotion to our values and beliefs, and also to strengthen unity within a group. Anthropologists believe that rituals have been in existence since the very beginning of our time. Rituals could be believe what has kept us here so long, That is evidence as to how important they are and without this practice, we possibly would not be equipped with the security or solidarity needed to survive this world. • 51. Analysis Of After Apple Picking By Robert Frost After Apple Picking is an early work by Robert Frost. The poem portrays the hypnagogia of sleep by describing the fleeting moments before the speaker falls into deep slumber. The poem is written in the first person point of view and is most likely a depiction of Frost himself. Frost wrote this poem when he was around forty to fifty years old. In the twentieth century, he would have been considered to be close to the end of his life and this could have been his initial inspiration for the poem.
