And yet, Southwest has been the only U.S. airline to be profitable for 28 consecutive years (Laing,
2001). One key to Southwest s success is its remarkably short turnaround time, 15 minutes versus
competitors average of 35 minutes (O Reilly Pfeffer, 1995). Planes don t sit long at the jet way.
Instead, employees across functional lines band together to get the planes out quickly, despite being
89% unionized. This results in an average plane utilization of around 12 hours at Southwest versus the
industry average of closer to 9 hours. Southwest s success hinges not on how brilliant, unique, or
opaque their strategy is, but on the alignment between their culture and strategy, and how clearly
employees understand, and intensely they feel, about the culture. Strong cultures enhance
organizational performance in two ways. First, they improve performance by energizing employees
appealing to their higher ideals and values, and rallying them around a set of meaningful, unified
goals. Such ideals excite employee commitment and effort because they are inherently engaging
(Walton, 1980), and fill voids in identity and meaning that some believe; characterize contemporary
Western society (Baumeister, 1998). Second, strong cultures boost performance by shaping and
coordinating employees behavior. Stated values and norms focus employees attention on
organizational priorities that then guide their behavior and

Is the Captivity of Killer Whales for Entertainment...
Is the captivity of Killer Whales for the entertainment of humans inhume?
Suppose you were kidnapped from your family as a child by an alien species while your family
watched in despair, crying out helplessly for your kidnappers to not rip you away from them. Now
imagine then being strapped down and transported to a place unknown and once you arrive, you see
that some of the other children that were also kidnapped have died. You then witness something that
will forever remain engraved into your mind; you witness those monsters that took you hostage cut the
children open, fill their bodies up with rocks, tie an anchor onto their feet and throw them into the

They are removed from their natural habitats and deprived of the ability to take advantage of their
intelligence as well as freely engage in behaviors that come natural to them such as choosing when
and what to hunt, their social groupings, when to mate etc. which consequentially leads to both
physical and psychological damage. These showcases of whales desensitize both children and adults
to animal mistreatment and inhumanity (Born Free USA). The exploitation of Orcinus Whales is an
act motivated solely by greed and carelessness. These animals are being held captive and taken
advantage of so that humans can be entertained for a short time and so that organizations can continue
to feed off of their publicity and make millions of dollars a year off of their pain and suffering.
Although Orcinus Orca Whales are commonly referred to as Killer Whales because they are known as
powerful predators who relentlessly [batter] their prey for hours at a time (Robert L. Pitman), Orcinus
Orcas are actually the largest members of the dolphin family. According to the MarineBio
Conservation Society, Orcinus Orcas can reach a maximum length of over 9m and can weigh up to
7,257kg (MarineBio.org) , which is equivalent to a weight of 15998.9 lbs and about 29.5ft in length.
Killer whales can be found in all parts of the ocean and in most seas from the Arctic to the Antarctic
(NMFS: NOAA Fisheries). Considering the physical size of Orcas and the size of their natural habitat

Introduction The final internship report is a way to reflect on your overall assessment on how you
taken the prior education of construction management, and applied it towards an internship. As well as
expressing new experiences that happened during the internship that school courses did not prepare
you for or not taught yet. These topics are covered by explaining the primary task that was performed
throughout the internship, and how technology was utilized in completing the responsibilities. While
performing these activities, how did they enhance your communication skills and public speaking
abilities. During the period of the internship, in what way were legal and ethical issues brought up,
and what lessons were learned to prevent future encounters. Internship Orientation and Preparation
Before going through orientation, I reported to the main office to go through a background check,
because I would be working on a school. Following the background check I needed to complete a
physical exam, and a drug test. Once my company received notification that I passed, I was scheduled
for orientation. During orientation, I went through multiple presentations, and ended with a safety
exam to give me authorization to work on the jobsite. Before reporting to orientation, I would
recommend researching your company and be able to recognize, and know the names of all upper
management employees. Activities and Experiences There was not a day during my internship, that I

The Human Body Of The Thyroid Gland
The thyroid gland is very important in proper functioning of the human body. The hormones it
releases are vital in regulating growth and metabolic reaction. The thyroid gland is relatively small
(about 20g) and is located at the base of the neck, connected to the windpipe and voicebox. Its
structure may be described as butterfly shaped as it is composed of two connected lobes. See image:
The two main hormones secreted by the thyroid gland are tetraiodothyronine (thyroxine or T4) and
triiodothyronine (T3). Both hormones have a peptide structure containing iodine (three atoms in T3
and four in T4).These two hormones regulate growth and development as well as metabolism. They
both speed up the rate of the body s metabolic reactions, which ... Show more content on

Likewise, when a greater rate of growth and metabolism is needed, secretion of TRH can be increased.
Thus, homeostasis is maintained in the body. See diagram of this process below. In a healthy
individual, this mechanism means that thyroid activity proceeds at a normal rate, resulting in normal
growth and metabolism. However, in some cases the thyroid gland may not produce enough hormones
or may be overactive and produce excessive amounts. The focus in this case will be on overactive
thyroid glands and on the specific case of Graves disease.
Hyperthyroidism is a term used to describe an overactive thyroid gland. This is usually prevented by
the process mentioned above, however there are some factors that can cause hyperthyroidism. One of
these factors is Graves disease.
In Graves disease, a response in the body s immune system (the system which defends against disease)
causes the antibody thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI) to be produced. The precise cause of
this immune response is currently unknown. TSI binds to the cells of the thyroid gland and causes
them to secrete excessive amounts of thyroid hormones. Some of the symptoms caused are:
A feeling of being nervous or restless
Insomnia (poor sleep)
Increased appetite but weight loss
Hand tremors
Diarrhoea
Irregular menstruation in women
Swelling of thyroid gland or goitre

Human Genetic Engineering Essay
Genetic engineering is a practice commonly used in food to produce yields of superior size or quality.
Recently this technology has been tested on humans. The human race will now be able to improve
upon itself and their offspring. With this technology disease can be disposed of and normal people can
become better than average. Not all technology needs to be utilized. Genetic engineering that should
not be used in humans unless done to prevent or treat disease until it is fully understood since the
consequences are undetermined and potentially devastating. Human genetic engineering, HGE, is a
new technology been incorporated into modern science where the genes or more specifically DNA are
manipulated within a living person or zygote. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Preventing sickness is not wrong. The issue occurs when one tries to, as Sandel claims, reach beyond
health or above the norm ( The Case Against ). Pills and other devices have done this. For example,
David King, a professor at Harvard, recollects when human growth hormone was marketed towards
people with hormone deficiencies. Now it is prescribed to normal short children (39). Surgery was
also originally used for medical uses, but cosmetic surgery is now its own field. When HGE becomes
affordable and safe the public will find use.
Clapper explains germline changes the genes in eggs or sperm ( Human Genetic ). This will modify
any future children. Mitochondrial transfer, a form of germline engineering, is now possible allowing
for three genetically linked parents to a child. Wynne Parry, LiveScience contributor, describes that it
replaces faulty mitochondria with healthy ones from a third party ( Designing Life ) riding the child of
mitochondrial diseases from the mother due to old age during pregnancy.
Germline engineering will satisfy few people who have infertility and do not want to use other
methods. Parents can have the same bond between another being without conceiving a child. There is
adoption, but some do not do this since the child will not be genetically linked to them. Clapper
mentions that gamete and embryo donation, or pre implantation diagnosis and selection can be used (
Human Genetic ). The latter allows for both parents to be related

Β Galactosidase Lab Report
Enzymes play a remarkably important role in biological systems. Nearly all reactions in living
organisms are catalyzed by enzymes, a large majority of which have been found to be proteins. The
mechanisms by which enzymes function are varied, but all mechanisms lower the transition state free
energy where the free energy barrier of a reaction is the highest. Thus, an enzymatically catalyzed
reaction proceeds at a significantly increased rate than that of an unanalyzed reaction. Even though the
mechanism of enzymes can be reduced to such a basic idea, it is important to note that enzymes are
incredibly versatile and achieve catalysis through several mechanisms. The mechanisms are identical
to those of chemical catalysts, and thus comes forth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Michaelis Menten model, two important kinetic properties of enzymes are related. These
properties are the Vmax, or maximum rate that can be achieved by the enzyme, and the Michaelis
constant, KM. The KM can be defined as the concentration of substrate that leads to of the reaction.
While the Michaelis Menten model is very useful in determining the kinetics of enzymes, but there are
certain limitations to this method of investigating enzyme kinetics. The full analysis of the Michaelis
Menten model and steady state rate is beyond this report. However, it is important to note that the
enzyme substrate complex concentration is assumed to be constant, even though is continuously being

Brand identification is the ability for its audience to relate to the brand in question. Donald trump has
done an impressive job of developing brand identification in his campaign. He exhibits consistency,

these important factors in brand identification by keeping himself and his messages visible and
relatable. He claims he wants to Make America Great Again, which speaks to a lot of individuals who

than he does, brand identification in political campaigns is much harder to develop than it is for a

How Did The Great Depression Affect The American Film...
The Great Depression, characterized by a global economic downturn, was accelerated in the United
States by the Wall Street Stock Market Crash of 1929. In the aftermath of the Stock Market Crash, it
was widely presumed that the American Film Industry was impervious to the recession, but eventually
signs of economic distress were apparent in the three business components of filmmaking production,
distribution and exhibition. The impact of the Great Depression on the American Film Industry was
the negative financial consequences experience by major film companies and the exhibition market,
which led to the implementation of The Code of Fair Competition in motion picture, and brought to
the forefront the inability of Wall Street to keep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paramount raised money to expand exhibition through an exchange of stock with a repurchase
agreement of $80 a share (Schuchman, Balio, 1994), which poses an issue because legally they have
to be honored whenever the stipulated time ends. This meant that if the shareholders decided to
exercise their right to the agreement, they could cash in their shares whenever they wanted,
specifically to gain profits in a market crash. As a result, Paramount garnered losses that they would
have to deal with for years to come. In a similar pattern of poor financial decisions, William Fox,
attempting to make the world s largest motion picture enterprise, made the decision to finance a
controlling share in Loew s Inc. with money borrowed from AT T and Halsey, Stuart Company
(Schuchman, Balio, 1994). Even though this was an ambitious takeover, the problem was that in
effect, his company would be in violation of the Sherman Anti Trust Act, 1890 thereby giving the
government an opportunity to stop the deal and plunge the company into financial distress. To add to
this, William Fox could no longer sustain himself and needed to relinquish control of the company to
Harley C. Clarke in exchange for cash (Schuchman, Balio, 1994), which left the company in the
absence of the original owner. This was a phenomena which was very common during the Great
Depression. Universal Pictures founder, Carl Laemmle, had to sell off his shares due to taking out
financial loans to support production. Universal had a shortage of money after selling off all of its
theaters in 1933, which eventually led to Laemmle borrowing $750,000 from J. Cheever Cowdin s
Standard Capital Company in 1935 in exchange for the right to purchase of major interest in the studio
for $5.5 million in ninety days (Schuchman, Balio, 1994). Even though contractually, this was a fair

Chapter 01 Introduction Basic DC to DC Converter A DC DC converter is a device used to obtain
variable d.c. voltage from a source of constant d.c voltage .Therefore it may be thought of as d.c
equivalent of an a.c transformer. Since they behave in an identical manner .Besides the saving in
power, the d.c choppers offers greater efficiency, faster response lower maintenance, small size,
smooth control and for many applications, lower cost than motor generator sets or gas tubes

Gypsies in the Czech Republic Essay
Gypsies in the Czech Republic
The Gypsies of the former Czechoslovakia have suffered ethnic marginalization dating back to their
arrival in Eastern Europe over 700 years ago. The collapse of communism in Czechoslovakia, and
other Eastern Europe countries created the necessary conditions for the ethnic mobilization of the
Gypsies and other minorities. During communism minorities presence in Eastern Europe was not
officially recognized. The transition from the socialist system to democracy gave the Gypsies of
Czechoslovakia a chance to participate in the political process, to represent their interests and end
their ethnic marginilization. Though, due to historical circumstances dating back before communism

The gypsies led a nomadic lifestyle traveling from place to place never establishing an area of
permanent residence. They made a living by telling fortunes, begging, horse trading, and thieving.
Their nomadic life style was conducive to their activities because the Gypsies never established ties to
the community and were gone before they had arrived. As the Gypsies continued to travel they soon
began to develop a bad reputation that preceded their arrival in new areas. As the Gypsies arrived in
the Czech areas within the Holy Roman Empire they were regarded as an undesirable element in
society. Over the next few hundred years the Gypsies were persecuted and efforts were made to
destroy the Gypsy culture in the area of former Czechoslovakia. In the seventeenth century, many
Gypsies were hanged from trees along the border to discourage others from entering the country
(Crowe and Kolsti 94). Persecution of the Gypsies ended in the eighteenth century ended when the
rulers of the Hapsburg Empire tried to integrate them into the peasantry and make them a positive
aspect of society. They were forced to abandon their nomadic lifestyle and many of their horses were
shot. The Gypsies were not allowed to speak their native tongue, which is Romani, and their children
were instructed in the Christian religion. While many of these policies worked they were not regularly

Solving The Demographic Transition Model
Guatemala, the most populous country in Central America, is a textbook example of a country firmly
in stage 2 of the demographic transition model. A country steeped in rich culture, Guatemala still has a
sizeable population of Mayans, the ethnic group that populated the geographical region pre
colonization. This minority is often the victim of marginalization, much like the Native Americans of
the United States. This, combined with the pressures of a rapidly increasing population, create many
complicated issues for the country to deal with as its next generation comes of age. High fertility rates
come with the territory of Guatemala s current position in the demographic transition model. If
Guatemala doesn t keep its population in check ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way to destroy the vicious cycle of high birth rates is to empower women through social change,
specifically, education. There is a proven connection between the education level of a mother and how
many children she will have, statistically. In the United States, birth rates of women with less than 12
years of total education are more than triple their college educated counterparts. This can logically be
applied to Guatemala s situation to find that if more women are educated, not only in school, but in
proper child care and contraception use, their Total Fertility Rate should rapidly decrease to a more
sustainable level. This is a one two punch: not only will women have less children, the ones they do
have will likely be raised more effectively and are less likely to die of disease in infancy. Guatemala
must engage in a campaign to enroll more girls in school. This will be difficult, due to the culture of
the country. Women are expected to stay at home and work the fields. Culture must shift to make
progress, as it so often does. Guatemala s population issues don t just deal with the numbers. Even
once their population growth is slowed to a safe level, the people of Guatemala deserve a higher
quality of life on average. As stated before, more than half their population is below the poverty line.
Approximately 30% of their labor force works in agriculture, and it only makes up 13.5% of their
GDP. Many of the poorest households in this category

The ice storms start out, begins, with warm air and some layers of cold. Then as the rain freezes as it is

Examples Of Realism In To The Lighthouse And The Third Man
Modernist Narratives and the Third Person Narrator: an Analysis of
To the Lighthouse and The Third Man Modernism in film and literature often begins with space and
distance. The modernist movement in the early to mid 20th century sought to change the way we look
at art and its expression of inner human turmoil. Influenced by the German Expressionist movement
that attempted to show a distorted view of [the] world to evoke a mood or idea (Crabbe), modernist
narratives use space to allow the reader or viewer to actively engage with the character and have more
self conscious and subjective interpretation towards the novel so as to create the strong bond with the
novel. Often, modernism narratives style replaces the claustrophobia of first person narration styles,
welcoming third person forms that provide readers subjective interpretation of the story. Also,

An Analysis Of The Unknown Citizen By F. H. Auden
In the world today, society has created individuals that conform to the expected norms and those that
rebel against them. In each of the pieces selected there is a character that conforms to meet the needs
of the society. A conformist is someone who follows the rules that are given to them without any
complaints. Each of the three literary writings has a character that is considered rebellious within the
norms of society. A rebellious person is someone who does not follow the rules that are given to them.
The poem The Unknown Citizen by W. H. Auden is mainly about an unnamed man who is a
conformist, because he listens to all the rules that are made for the society. On the other hand, the
short story A P by John Updike and the play Antigone by Sophocles there is a conformist character
which enforces the rules set in place, and a rebellious character which goes against the principles of
society. Each author depicts a character to represent the conformist and rebellious individuals within
today s society.
Within the three different literary writings there is a character that acts as a conformist. W.H. Auden
created a main character in The Unknown Citizen that does not appear to want to do anything for
himself, but rather for the others within his community. In line five W.H. Auden states, for in
everything he did, he served the Greater Community (497), meaning this man is known to be a good

An added incentive as to why I chose to do my report on Woolworths was that they are my current

new technologies, and the practice of home recording. The emphasis on personal experience and a
lack of adequate external evidence, however, is apparent within this article which does compromise
the validity of the notions presented. Although, it does serve as a great personal case study as Merrill

The Beauty And Richness Of Autumn By John Keats
At one time or another, every person has experienced the beauty of summer. In this time of the year,
nature is full of life, the weather is at its finest, and the paramount joys of life can be experienced to
their fullest. Then the fall comes, the trees turn lovely shades of red and yellow, and the wind offers a
nice chill breeze for relief. Unfortunately, seasons change and the beauty that people once experienced
vanishes. People focusing only on the material and petty aspects of life, rather than the beauty around
them, will let life pass them, missing out on the true wonders of the world. In his poem To Autumn,
John Keats utilizes imagery to express the importance of indulging in the beauties of nature, while
alive, because humans are mortal beings bound by the limits of time.
Throughout the beginning of the poem, Keats touches on the beauty and richness of autumn. He
accomplishes this by introducing distinct fall imagery. For example, Keats writes in lines 5 and 6, To
bend with apples the moss d cottage trees; And fill all fruit with the ripeness of to the cores (414).
Having the trees branches being bent by the weight of the apples and the fruit being ripe to its core,
the narrator points to the plumpness and maturity of the fruit. Typically, fruit reaches this fullness in
autumn when it is ready to harvest. Keats uses this delectable and pleasant image of the fruit to not
only demonstrate the mouthwatering joys nature has to offer during this season, but to also

Benefits Of Race Horse
Thoroughbred race horses are among the most gifted and elegant athletes on the planet. Its ability to
sustain distances of up to two miles at speeds of up to 35 mph also makes it one of the fastest creatures
on the planet. At the racetrack, they are trained to do one thing, run as fast as they can for as long as
they can against others horses that are trained to do the same thing.
Given the high costs of maintaining an active racehorse, every horse is generally required to support
themselves by running fast enough to win races and collect purses. When a horse in no longer capable
of winning races and being the object of free bets for gamblers because of injury or the inability to
compete at the lowest levels of the sport, they are retired.

Colorimetric Cocaine Detection
Colorimetric sensors have significant advantages for on site and point of care detections because these
sensing platforms can minimize or even eliminate the requirement of analytical instruments and made
naked eye observation highly achievable. The colorimetric detection of cocaine was reported based on
the catalytic activity of the peroxidase mimicking (G quadruplex DNAzyme) in the TMB H2O2
reaction system.243 One of the aptamer fragments was modified on amine functionalized magnetic
nanoparticles (MNPs) and another was kept in the solution. The binding of cocaine brought two
fragments on the MNP, forming a three way junction on the surface. The G quadruplex DNAzyme
then catalyzed TMB H2O2 reaction system, producing the color change. A detection limit of 50 nM

During an UN Commission meeting in 1983, Norwegian Prime Minister Brundtland came to express a
stand amongst the most thorough meanings of sustainability: helping the present without trading off
the capability of future eras to help s (WCED Report, 1987).
From that point on wards, subjects identified with sustainability multiplied and passed past the macro
level by likewise embracing mezzo and micro levels as unit of investigation. To express this all this in
detail, a macro point of view reflects a group level perspective, while a mezzo point of view embraces
organisation and focuses on organization level focus plan, and a micro viewpoint analyses an

open deliberation of giving sustainability to the group, to the organisations ( business endeavour being

Expectations in Greek hospitality include, not only being graciously welcomed into the home of

The Epidemic Of Smallpox During The Middle Ages
Over many of years the world has faced problems concerning health. Many scientists and health
experts have worked together to better our nation s health care. English Physician and Scientist
Edward Jenner, a small country doctor, who is well known around the world for his innovative
contribution to immunization and the ultimate eradication of smallpox. (2005, Baylor University
Medical Center.) It is believed that smallpox appeared around 10,000 B.C. Smallpox was introduced
to Europe sometime between the fifth and seventh centuries and was frequently epidemic during the
Middle Ages. Edward Jenner was born on May 17, 1749, in Berkeley, Gloucestershire. During his
early school years, Edward developed a strong interest in science and nature that continued throughout
his life. Jenner s interest in natural history and animal biology sharpened his medical understanding of
the role of human animal trans species boundaries in disease transmission. He experienced the
proverbial Eureka like moment sometime during the 1770s. At age 13 he was apprenticed to a country
surgeon and apothecary in Sodbury, near Bistol. The record shows that it was there Jenner heard a
dairymaid say, I shall never have smallpox for I have had cowpox. I shall never have an ugly
pockmarked face. While Jenner s interest in the effects of cowpox began during his apprenticeshire
with George Harwickle, it wasn t until 1796 before he made the first step in a long process of

The Function Of The Human Digestive System
The human digestive system is like a machine composed of many parts of the body that work together
to turn foods and liquids into energy that the body requires to function.
The digestive tract begins with the mouth. This is where the enzyme amylase is released to initiate the
process of digestion.
The epiglottis is a small piece of tissue that covers the opening of the larynx.
Once food passes through the epiglottis, it goes to the gallbladder, a small pouch that stores bile. The
gallbladder releases bile into the duodenum to help digest fats in the food you eat.
The first part of the small intestine is called the duodenum. The word duodenum comes from the Latin
word duodeni and means 12 each. The duodenum was thought to be as long as the width of 12 fingers.
The middle section of the small intestine is called the jejunum, which is about 5 to 8 feet (1.5 to 2.5
meters) long.
The third part of the small intestine is called the ileum. It s also the longest tube, measuring 16 to 20
feet (5 to 6 meters) long.
It is called small intestine because of its width, not its length. The small intestine is actually much
longer than the large intestine. The small and large intestines form one continuous tube.
The large intestine consists of three parts, the cecum, the colon, and the rectum. The cecum is the
pouch like beginning of the large intestine. The colon is the largest part of the large intestine and has
three parts the ascending colon, the transverse colon, and the

Cosmological Argument From Motion
To begin, we start with an a posteriori argument, or an argument from experience. Arguments from
experiences of the world to the existence of God are called cosmological arguments. This particular
argument is the argument from motion. Argument from Motion: P1. Some things are moved. P2. If
something is moved to being F, then it is potentially but not actually F. P3. If something moves a thing
to be F, then it (the mover) is in a state of actuality relevant to F. C1. If something were to move itself
to be F (e.g., be both moved and its own mover), then it would be both potentially but not actually F
and also in a state of actuality relevant to F (conjunction, modus ponens, P1 3). P4. But it is not
possible for something to be both potentially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will leave it to con to find any objections to this argument; however, I will respond to one
preemptive problem that may seemingly arise. The issue comes from a seeming contradiction between
Newton s law of inertial motion, or Newton s first law of motion, and the Aristotelian definition of
motion on which the argument above rests. The problem may be resolved in two ways. Firstly, to
assert that there is a contradiction is to equivocate between two different definitions of the word
motion. Newton s account of motion is only concerned with local motion (motion or change in terms
of place or location), while the Aristotelian is concerned with change of every sort (quality, quantity,
substance, accident, etc.). Secondly, there is no formal contradiction. As the Thomist philosopher
Edward Feser says: Suppose that motion is being used in the two principles in the same sense. Even
given this assumption, there is no formal contradiction between them. Newton s law tells us that a
body will in fact continue its uniform rectilinear motion if it is moving at all, as long as external forces
do not prevent this. It does not tell us why it will do so. In particular, it does not tell us one way or the
other whether there is a mover of some sort which ensures that an object obeys the First Law, and
which is in that sense responsible for its

According to skillsyouneed.com, Listening is the ability accurately to receive and interpret messages
in the communication process. (listening skills ). This may sound as a passive skill however it is far
from it. A good listener is actively involved in trying to understand the information as the speaker has
intended. This skill is vital to good business. One example of listening in action would be conducting
customer surveys to better ensure the needs of the customer are met. This may be as simple as asking
how can we better serve you or a complex as a large question bank to help judge company
performance.

A Discussion Of Regression Results
Discussion of Regression Results
In order to empirically examine the extent to which changes in the price of chicken causes changes in
broiler (chicken) consumption, time series data was collected on 40 observations extending from 1960
to 1999 on nine explanatory variables in total. I regressed this data using an Ordinary Least Squares
(OLS) approach. The main explanatory variable used for my analysis was the consumer price index
(CPI) for whole fresh chicken with the base years denoted as the 1982 to 1984 time period. The
econometric model for my regression analysis is listed below:
Broiler Consumption = a+β_(1 ) (CPI of broilers)+ β_2 (income)+ β_3 (population)+β_(4 ) (CPI for
beef)+β_(5 ) (PPI for corn)+ β_(6 ) (NPI for broiler feed)+β_7 (CPI)+β_8 (AP of Broilers)+β_9
(population)+β_(10 ) (exports of beef,veal and pork)+ ε
Data regarding my dependent variable was originally collected as pounds consumed per capita.
However, I multiplied the per capita broiler consumption data by 100,000 to obtain broiler
consumption in pounds per 100,000 people. In this way, I was able to obtain a larger coefficient on a
few of the explanatory variables, which allowed for a more suitable display and discussion of the
results in the paper. Further, the objective of this analysis was to explain to what extent price of
broilers, represented as the consumer price index on whole fresh chicken, impacts broiler consumption
in pounds. Specifically, the coefficients on the

Literary Analysis Of Emily Dickinson s Water Is Taught By...
Emily Dickinson is a well respected poet from the New England area. Although she was not
recognized during her lifetime, the close to 1,800 poems are well known to people who study
American Literature. One of her poems, Water, is Taught by Thirst , conveys the message of
appreciating what you have instead of waiting for it to disappear by taking a closer look at the poem
and evaluating the lines, people can connect to the message by looking at a few things they appreciate
in life.
By evaluating Water, is Taught by Thirst the reader can have a broader understanding of the theme,
appreciate what you have before they vanish before you realize it. Such as the second line, Dickinson
mentions land, by the oceans passed which I interpreted as the absence of land. This also means she
sees the land as a home, shelter, a place to rest and re energize. To her this is very dear, she loved to
stay isolated and frankly it is necessary to have somewhere to call home and relax the mind to let the
thoughts flow. Also in line 4, the writer talks about appreciating peace. Line 4 of the poem says Peace
by its battles told , I interpret this such as we miss and understand peace in the middle of battle, war,
conflict, and beef. Only during times of need does someone ever truly appreciate something.
In reflecting on my life and on the concept of appreciation, I can relate because of my appreciation for
the things I have in my life. One of the many things I appreciate is my little chihuahua, he is brown
with a hint of gold. His attitude is not always the best, like sometimes he will ignore me, but for the
most part he is obedient. He is practically family or even more than that. It s hard but it s as if he is an
extension or piece of me. Another thing I appreciate but can sometimes lose sight of is my parents,
they love me a lot and there are times I forget that they are human beings and they have their own
problems. I forget what they have been through, I remember the struggle they had to overcome just for
me to ask every day to borrow their car because mine was messed up. The amount of self sacrifice

Disadvantages Of Vertical Jump Test
Project Write Up
Unlike most studies and tests that measure and examine jumping ability and leg muscle power, the
vertical jump test is extremely inexpensive to conduct. Although the vertical jump test is simple, easy,
and quick to perform, there are numerous disadvantages to the test as well. In the vertical jump test, an
individual is asked to attempt to touch the wall at the highest point of their jump. When the individual
jumps, their technique and form play a large role in maximizing their jump height. The jump height
can be affected by not only how much the individual bends their knees before they jump, but also by
how effectively the individual uses their arms.
Furthermore, the individual must use timing when attempting to touch the wall at the highest point of
their jump. It is a common argument that technique may play a bigger role in the vertical jump test
than leg power. In addition, individuals typically use chalk on their fingertips to record their jump
height, but the use of chalk is not accurate and can lead to errors in the recorded measurements. All
these factors can lead to varying results, so essentially this test can be considered unreliable if you are
not cautious with how you do it. Another factor that may contribute to varying results is the actual
height of the person. For example, if you a participant who is over 6 feet, they have a greater
advantage than someone who is 5 feet because they are obviously taller and their arms will be longer.

comedic play. William Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice shows that love conquers all and that
you can always defeat the enemy. Even if a pound of flesh is the difference between life and death, or
if one wrong person chooses the casket that decides your fate. For example, The Merchant of Venice,
Antonio, not only survives the fate of having a pound of his flesh taken from his body on account of
his friend that could not repay the bond to a man who is seen as the devil, but gets thrice his money
back and the villain is taken down. Not to mention that Antonio s best friend, Bassanio, not only
repays the bond and gets out of his debt to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
142 147) Antonio agrees to the deal, since he feels that helping his Bassanio is the right thing to do for
a best friend. As time progresses Bassanio and Portia found their way to each other, though Bassanio
still has not the money to pay Shylock, so he tells Portia. She has no problem paying the bond and
says, Pay him six thousand, and deface the bond;/ Double six thousand, and then treble that, (3.2.298
299). With that, Bassanio has a chance to save his friend s life, and pay back the Jew. At the time of
the trial Antonio feels ready to except his fate, to give in to the villain. Antonio says his last words to
Bassanio, but when Shylock starts to prepare to cut into Antonio the judge (who is really Portia in
disguise) presents a reason why Shylock may not take Antonio s flesh. Portia states, Are, by the laws
of Venice, confiscate / Unto the state of Venice (3.1.309 310). Shylock is denied of the money which

Robert Nardelli s Leadership Style
When one thinks of the retail giant Home Depot they think of reasonably priced items that will aid
them in home improvement projects. In the business world though, the mention of this chain store
brings to mind the controversial CEO Robert Nardelli who left an organizational path of destruction
upon his departure from the company. Nardelli had an interesting leadership style that bordered on the
edge of being considered unethical and was considered by many as not being beneficial for the
company overall. By evaluating Robert Nardelli s leadership style against known leadership theories
such as trait, behavioral, situational and contingency theories it is easy to dissect his leadership style
and make a final decision as to how ethical he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the theories that can be used to dissect Nardelli s role as a leader is the trait theory. Trait
theories are based upon the concept that leaders are simply born with a set of traits such as social,
personal, and personality traits and also physical characteristics that outline how they are as a leader
(Baack, 2012). Nardelli had a good foundation of traits for being a leader but there were some
personality traits that kept him from being a great leader. He had a strong desire for setting and
achieving goals but his interactions with people, employees and customers alike, were what caused
him problems. Robert Nardelli was not known as being a personable individual and tended to focus
more on the numbers that the stores were generating rather than the people that were providing those
numbers. As a leader it is important to be balanced between the two aspects as you cannot have one
without the other. It is impossible to lead people if there is no desire to relate to them and this is the
issue that Nardelli was faced with. The profits that an organization is generating can only take you so
far; it is the people that need to be the focus first and then one can move on to other aspects.
Whereas trait theory believed that leadership traits are something and individual is born with,
behavioral theory is based on the concept that

One key to Southwest s success is its remarkably short turnaround time, 15 minutes versus competitors average of 35 minutes (O Reilly Pfeffer, 1995). Planes don t sit long at the jet way. Instead, employees across functional lines band together to get the planes out quickly, despite being 89% unionized. This results in an average plane utilization of around 12 hours at Southwest versus the industry average of closer to 9 hours. Southwest s success hinges not on how brilliant, unique, or opaque their strategy is, but on the alignment between their culture and strategy, and how clearly employees understand, and intensely they feel, about the culture. Strong cultures enhance organizational performance in two ways. First, they improve performance by energizing employees appealing to their higher ideals and values, and rallying them around a set of meaningful, unified goals. Such ideals excite employee commitment and effort because they are inherently engaging (Walton, 1980), and fill voids in identity and meaning that some believe; characterize contemporary Western society (Baumeister, 1998). Second, strong cultures boost performance by shaping and coordinating employees behavior. Now imagine then being strapped down and transported to a place unknown and once you arrive, you see that some of the other children that were also kidnapped have died. You then witness something that will forever remain engraved into your mind; you witness those monsters that took you hostage cut the children open, fill their bodies up with rocks, tie an anchor onto their feet and throw them into the ocean. They are removed from their natural habitats and deprived of the ability to take advantage of their intelligence as well as freely engage in behaviors that come natural to them such as choosing when and what to hunt, their social groupings, when to mate etc. which consequentially leads to both physical and psychological damage. These showcases of whales desensitize both children and adults to animal mistreatment and inhumanity (Born Free USA). The exploitation of Orcinus Whales is an act motivated solely by greed and carelessness. These animals are being held captive and taken advantage of so that humans can be entertained for a short time and so that organizations can continue to feed off of their publicity and make millions of dollars a year off of their pain and suffering. Although Orcinus Orca Whales are commonly referred to as Killer Whales because they are known as powerful predators who relentlessly [batter] their prey for hours at a time (Robert L. Introduction The final internship report is a way to reflect on your overall assessment on how you taken the prior education of construction management, and applied it towards an internship. As well as expressing new experiences that happened during the internship that school courses did not prepare you for or not taught yet. These topics are covered by explaining the primary task that was performed throughout the internship, and how technology was utilized in completing the responsibilities. While performing these activities, how did they enhance your communication skills and public speaking abilities. • 5. The Human Body Of The Thyroid Gland The thyroid gland is very important in proper functioning of the human body. The hormones it releases are vital in regulating growth and metabolic reaction. The thyroid gland is relatively small (about 20g) and is located at the base of the neck, connected to the windpipe and voicebox. Its structure may be described as butterfly shaped as it is composed of two connected lobes. See image: The two main hormones secreted by the thyroid gland are tetraiodothyronine (thyroxine or T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). Both hormones have a peptide structure containing iodine (three atoms in T3 and four in T4).These two hormones regulate growth and development as well as metabolism. They both speed up the rate of the body s metabolic reactions, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Likewise, when a greater rate of growth and metabolism is needed, secretion of TRH can be increased. Thus, homeostasis is maintained in the body. See diagram of this process below. In a healthy individual, this mechanism means that thyroid activity proceeds at a normal rate, resulting in normal growth and metabolism. However, in some cases the thyroid gland may not produce enough hormones or may be overactive and produce excessive amounts. The focus in this case will be on overactive thyroid glands and on the specific case of Graves disease. Hyperthyroidism is a term used to describe an overactive thyroid gland. This is usually prevented by the process mentioned above, however there are some factors that can cause hyperthyroidism. One of these factors is Graves disease. In Graves disease, a response in the body s immune system (the system which defends against disease) causes the antibody thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI) to be produced. The precise cause of this immune response is currently unknown. TSI binds to the cells of the thyroid gland and causes them to secrete excessive amounts of thyroid hormones. Some of the symptoms caused are: A feeling of being nervous or restless Insomnia (poor sleep) Increased appetite but weight loss Hand tremors Diarrhoea Irregular menstruation in women Swelling of thyroid gland or goitre Tiredness and ... Now it is prescribed to normal short children (39). Surgery was also originally used for medical uses, but cosmetic surgery is now its own field. When HGE becomes affordable and safe the public will find use. Clapper explains germline changes the genes in eggs or sperm ( Human Genetic ). This will modify any future children. Wynne Parry, LiveScience contributor, describes that it replaces faulty mitochondria with healthy ones from a third party ( Designing Life ) riding the child of mitochondrial diseases from the mother due to old age during pregnancy. Germline engineering will satisfy few people who have infertility and do not want to use other methods. Parents can have the same bond between another being without conceiving a child. Nearly all reactions in living organisms are catalyzed by enzymes, a large majority of which have been found to be proteins. Thus, an enzymatically catalyzed reaction proceeds at a significantly increased rate than that of an unanalyzed reaction. As a result, Paramount garnered losses that they would have to deal with for years to come. In a similar pattern of poor financial decisions, William Fox, attempting to make the world s largest motion picture enterprise, made the decision to finance a controlling share in Loew s Inc. with money borrowed from AT T and Halsey, Stuart Company (Schuchman, Balio, 1994). Even though this was an ambitious takeover, the problem was that in effect, his company would be in violation of the Sherman Anti Trust Act, 1890 thereby giving the government an opportunity to stop the deal and plunge the company into financial distress. To add to this, William Fox could no longer sustain himself and needed to relinquish control of the company to Harley C. This minority is often the victim of marginalization, much like the Native Americans of the United States. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One way to destroy the vicious cycle of high birth rates is to empower women through social change, specifically, education. There is a proven connection between the education level of a mother and how many children she will have, statistically. In the United States, birth rates of women with less than 12 years of total education are more than triple their college educated counterparts. This can logically be applied to Guatemala s situation to find that if more women are educated, not only in school, but in proper child care and contraception use, their Total Fertility Rate should rapidly decrease to a more sustainable level. This is a one two punch: not only will women have less children, the ones they do have will likely be raised more effectively and are less likely to die of disease in infancy. Guatemala must engage in a campaign to enroll more girls in school. This will be difficult, due to the culture of the country. Women are expected to stay at home and work the fields. In this time of the year, nature is full of life, the weather is at its finest, and the paramount joys of life can be experienced to their fullest. Then the fall comes, the trees turn lovely shades of red and yellow, and the wind offers a nice chill breeze for relief. Unfortunately, seasons change and the beauty that people once experienced vanishes. People focusing only on the material and petty aspects of life, rather than the beauty around them, will let life pass them, missing out on the true wonders of the world. In his poem To Autumn, John Keats utilizes imagery to express the importance of indulging in the beauties of nature, while alive, because humans are mortal beings bound by the limits of time. Throughout the beginning of the poem, Keats touches on the beauty and richness of autumn. He accomplishes this by introducing distinct fall imagery. For example, Keats writes in lines 5 and 6, To bend with apples the moss d cottage trees; And fill all fruit with the ripeness of to the cores (414). Having the trees branches being bent by the weight of the apples and the fruit being ripe to its core, the narrator points to the plumpness and maturity of the fruit. From that point on wards, subjects identified with sustainability multiplied and passed past the macro level by likewise embracing mezzo and micro levels as unit of investigation. To express this all this in detail, a macro point of view reflects a group level perspective, while a mezzo point of view embraces organisation and focuses on organization level focus plan, and a micro viewpoint analyses an individual s level of study and research on a certain topic. Many scientists and health experts have worked together to better our nation s health care. English Physician and Scientist Edward Jenner, a small country doctor, who is well known around the world for his innovative contribution to immunization and the ultimate eradication of smallpox. (2005, Baylor University Medical Center.) It is believed that smallpox appeared around 10,000 B.C. Smallpox was introduced to Europe sometime between the fifth and seventh centuries and was frequently epidemic during the Middle Ages. Edward Jenner was born on May 17, 1749, in Berkeley, Gloucestershire. During his early school years, Edward developed a strong interest in science and nature that continued throughout his life. Jenner s interest in natural history and animal biology sharpened his medical understanding of the role of human animal trans species boundaries in disease transmission. He experienced the proverbial Eureka like moment sometime during the 1770s. At age 13 he was apprenticed to a country surgeon and apothecary in Sodbury, near Bistol. The record shows that it was there Jenner heard a dairymaid say, I shall never have smallpox for I have had cowpox. I shall never have an ugly pockmarked face. • 28. The Function Of The Human Digestive System The human digestive system is like a machine composed of many parts of the body that work together to turn foods and liquids into energy that the body requires to function. The digestive tract begins with the mouth. This is where the enzyme amylase is released to initiate the process of digestion. The epiglottis is a small piece of tissue that covers the opening of the larynx. Once food passes through the epiglottis, it goes to the gallbladder, a small pouch that stores bile. The gallbladder releases bile into the duodenum to help digest fats in the food you eat. The first part of the small intestine is called the duodenum. The word duodenum comes from the Latin word duodeni and means 12 each. The duodenum was thought to be as long as the width of 12 fingers. The middle section of the small intestine is called the jejunum, which is about 5 to 8 feet (1.5 to 2.5 meters) long. The third part of the small intestine is called the ileum. It s also the longest tube, measuring 16 to 20 feet (5 to 6 meters) long. It is called small intestine because of its width, not its length. The small intestine is actually much longer than the large intestine. The small and large intestines form one continuous tube. The large intestine consists of three parts, the cecum, the colon, and the rectum. The cecum is the pouch like beginning of the large intestine. The colon is the largest part of the large intestine and has three parts the ascending colon, the transverse colon, and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Arguments from experiences of the world to the existence of God are called cosmological arguments. This particular argument is the argument from motion. Argument from Motion: P1. If something moves a thing to be F, then it (the mover) is in a state of actuality relevant to F. C1. If something were to move itself to be F (e.g., be both moved and its own mover), then it would be both potentially but not actually F and also in a state of actuality relevant to F (conjunction, modus ponens, P1 3). I will leave it to con to find any objections to this argument; however, I will respond to one preemptive problem that may seemingly arise. The issue comes from a seeming contradiction between Newton s law of inertial motion, or Newton s first law of motion, and the Aristotelian definition of motion on which the argument above rests. The problem may be resolved in two ways. Firstly, to assert that there is a contradiction is to equivocate between two different definitions of the word motion. Newton s account of motion is only concerned with local motion (motion or change in terms of place or location), while the Aristotelian is concerned with change of every sort (quality, quantity, substance, accident, etc.). Secondly, there is no formal contradiction. As the Thomist philosopher Edward Feser says: Suppose that motion is being used in the two principles in the same sense. Even given this assumption, there is no formal contradiction between them. Newton s law tells us that a body will in fact continue its uniform rectilinear motion if it is moving at all, as long as external forces do not prevent this. It does not tell us why it will do so. In particular, it does not tell us one way or the other whether there is a mover of some sort which ensures that an object obeys the First Law, and which is in that sense responsible for its ... A Discussion Of Regression Results Discussion of Regression Results In order to empirically examine the extent to which changes in the price of chicken causes changes in broiler (chicken) consumption, time series data was collected on 40 observations extending from 1960 to 1999 on nine explanatory variables in total. I regressed this data using an Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) approach. The main explanatory variable used for my analysis was the consumer price index (CPI) for whole fresh chicken with the base years denoted as the 1982 to 1984 time period. The econometric model for my regression analysis is listed below: Broiler Consumption = a+β_(1 ) (CPI of broilers)+ β_2 (income)+ β_3 (population)+β_(4 ) (CPI for beef)+β_(5 ) (PPI for corn)+ β_(6 ) (NPI for broiler feed)+β_7 (CPI)+β_8 (AP of Broilers)+β_9 (population)+β_(10 ) (exports of beef, veal and pork)+ ε Data regarding my dependent variable was originally collected as pounds consumed per capita. However, I multiplied the per capita broiler consumption data by 100,000 to obtain broiler consumption in pounds per 100,000 people. In this way, I was able to obtain a larger coefficient on a few of the explanatory variables, which allowed for a more suitable display and discussion of the results in the paper. Further, the objective of this analysis was to explain to what extent price of broilers, represented as the consumer price index on whole fresh chicken, impacts broiler consumption in pounds. • 37. Literary Analysis Of Emily Dickinson s Water Is Taught By... Emily Dickinson is a well respected poet from the New England area. Although she was not recognized during her lifetime, the close to 1,800 poems are well known to people who study American Literature. One of her poems, Water, is Taught by Thirst , conveys the message of appreciating what you have instead of waiting for it to disappear by taking a closer look at the poem and evaluating the lines, people can connect to the message by looking at a few things they appreciate in life. By evaluating Water, is Taught by Thirst the reader can have a broader understanding of the theme, appreciate what you have before they vanish before you realize it. Such as the second line, Dickinson mentions land, by the oceans passed which I interpreted as the absence of land. This also means she sees the land as a home, shelter, a place to rest and re energize. To her this is very dear, she loved to stay isolated and frankly it is necessary to have somewhere to call home and relax the mind to let the thoughts flow. Also in line 4, the writer talks about appreciating peace. Line 4 of the poem says Peace by its battles told , I interpret this such as we miss and understand peace in the middle of battle, war, conflict, and beef. Only during times of need does someone ever truly appreciate something. In reflecting on my life and on the concept of appreciation, I can relate because of my appreciation for the things I have in my life. One of the many things I appreciate is my little chihuahua, he is brown with a hint of gold. His attitude is not always the best, like sometimes he will ignore me, but for the most part he is obedient. He is practically family or even more than that. It s hard but it s as if he is an extension or piece of me. Another thing I appreciate but can sometimes lose sight of is my parents, they love me a lot and there are times I forget that they are human beings and they have their own problems. I forget what they have been through, I remember the struggle they had to overcome just for me to ask every day to borrow their car because mine was messed up. • 38. Disadvantages Of Vertical Jump Test Project Write Up Unlike most studies and tests that measure and examine jumping ability and leg muscle power, the vertical jump test is extremely inexpensive to conduct. Although the vertical jump test is simple, easy, and quick to perform, there are numerous disadvantages to the test as well. In the vertical jump test, an individual is asked to attempt to touch the wall at the highest point of their jump. When the individual jumps, their technique and form play a large role in maximizing their jump height. The jump height can be affected by not only how much the individual bends their knees before they jump, but also by how effectively the individual uses their arms. Furthermore, the individual must use timing when attempting to touch the wall at the highest point of their jump. It is a common argument that technique may play a bigger role in the vertical jump test than leg power. In addition, individuals typically use chalk on their fingertips to record their jump height, but the use of chalk is not accurate and can lead to errors in the recorded measurements. All these factors can lead to varying results, so essentially this test can be considered unreliable if you are not cautious with how you do it. Another factor that may contribute to varying results is the actual height of the person. For example, if you a participant who is over 6 feet, they have a greater advantage than someone who is 5 feet because they are obviously taller and their arms will be longer. They are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the theories that can be used to dissect Nardelli s role as a leader is the trait theory. Trait theories are based upon the concept that leaders are simply born with a set of traits such as social, personal, and personality traits and also physical characteristics that outline how they are as a leader (Baack, 2012). Nardelli had a good foundation of traits for being a leader but there were some personality traits that kept him from being a great leader. Robert Nardelli was not known as being a personable individual and tended to focus more on the numbers that the stores were generating rather than the people that were providing those numbers. As a leader it is important to be balanced between the two aspects as you cannot have one without the other.
