Essay about Sin Taxes
POLS 5440 Principles and Processes of Government Budgeting | Sin Taxes, Good or Bad? | An
Examination of the Use of Sin Taxes in the United States |
By: Stacy Madden4/27/2012 |
Executive Summary Historically sin taxes have been an effective and efficient way for the government
to raise revenue. The federal government used tariffs and consumption taxes to generate almost all of
its revenue in the early years of our nation. The tax structure and philosophy has evolved and changed
since the beginning of our nation, however the use of sin taxes has remained a good way for
governments to raise revenues. Sin taxes no longer provide a significant portion of federal or state
governments; however they do provide a consistent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most commonly, sin taxes are excise or consumption taxes that charge fees for guilty pleasures or
human indulgence. (Lorenzi, Sin Taxes 60) Sin taxes, therefore, are intended to encourage citizens to
consume or use taxed items responsibly or discourage behavior associated with the consumption of
taxed items. Goods or services generally taxed through sin tax policy have some common
characteristics including inelastic demand, promote behavior that is harmful to the individual, and
promote behavior that is harmful to others. (Lorenzi, Sin Taxes 60) Goods or services targeted by sin
taxes have an inelastic demand because they are generally habitual, addictive, or highly pleasurable.
(Lorenzi, Sin Taxes 60) Further, these goods or services are targeted by sin tax legislation because
consuming or utilizing the good or services can lead to self destructive behavior, negative
consequences for communities, and generally are considered socially undesirable. Thus, sin taxes are
not prohibitive; citizens are allowed to consume targeted goods and services as long as the tax is not
steep enough to make consumption of the good or service impossible. (Viscusi 556) Further, the
voluntary nature of sin taxes is generally more tolerable than involuntary nature of income taxes.
(Schmidt, Barr and Swanson 1677) The most confusing and controversial element when considering
sin taxes is the definition of sin.

Violet, Klaus, And Sunny Baudelaire Summary
Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire were intelligent children, and they were charming, and
resourceful, and had pleasant facial features, but they were extremely unlucky, most everything that
happened to them was rife with misfortune, misery and despair (1) .
This story takes place at Count Olaf s house and at the Briny Beach were Baudelaire children received
bad news from Mr. Poe that their parents had vanished in a terrible fire. They had to live with a man
named Coant Olaf; he was a mean and stubborn man who has a tattoo of an eye on his left ankle, and
only had one eyebrow. Violet was the eldest Baudelaire who was a very smart girl and liked to invent
things, she had black hair with a purple ribbon and would put up her hair when she was going to
invent something. Klaus was the middle child and loved to read and was very intelligent he wore
glasses and had black hair. Sunny was a baby like most babies and loved to chew on things she wore a
yellow ribbon on the little piece of hair that she had. Violet and the other two were going to his house
and met Justice Strauss a lovely and nice judge who lived next door to Count Olafs house. Count Olaf
said that he loved kids but the only reason he wanted to care for the kids is because he wanted to
marry Violet so he could get the Baudelaire fortune that belonged to Violet the eldest Baudelaire child.
At age 16 the fortune would be hers. The book level is 6.4 and i really enjoyed reading it. ... Show

Compare And Contrast Jefferson And Hamilton
Jefferson vs Hamilton Alexander Hamilton had a very organized plan for the development of the
United States government, a federalist that had strong ideas that would help the government achieve a
greater purpose. Which required a solid central government with two main points like interest of
commerce and industry. Being something that wavered in the air at that time that needed to be
corrected to improve the government, so Hamilton figured. Hamilton married into the Schuyler family
who was very rich and was the urban mercantile interests of seaports. Hamilton foundation of Order,

Jefferson had different views and often spoke on rural and southern interests. Believing that it was a
way to make change without having to go as far as the federalist were trying to take it. Basically
taking rights that the people deserved. Jefferson was hell bent on freedom which was a major issue at
that time, but compared to debt it was second to last and or actually last on most lists. The fact that
Jefferson stood up for what he believed in made him and Hamilton alike in a lot of ways. For the
people both stood for. Jefferson was more so casual to some issues that Hamilton had. Certain things
stated in the Constitution he felt would had been taken away if Hamilton enforced his plan. Jefferson
also stood of for the poor. Jefferson also spoke on Hamilton s monetary policies surpassing the rights
that was established in the Constitution. Jefferson knew Hamilton was for the rich instead of the poor.
Jefferson had connections with the French and that was something that Hamilton didn t approve of

Tupac Shakur Is Still Alive Essay
Tupac Shakur Is Still Alive nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;On September 7, 1996, Tupac Amaru Shakur
was riding in the passenger side of a black BMW driven by Marion Suge Knight, president of Death
Row Records. Tupac and Suge had just finished watching Mike Tyson defeat Bruce Seldon at the
MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tupac was standing up through the sunroof while the car was
stopped at a traffic light. The Cadillac containing the gunmen passed an entourage of Tupac s allies,
many of them bodyguards. Four unidentified men pulled alongside Suge s car, fired 13 rounds, and
sped away. No one gives chase and there were no witnesses on the street. How come? Why not,

Suge Knight released a statement that in an interview that after the shooting occurred, 2Pac was awake
and making conversation in the vehicle. Apparently, Suge was trying to find a hospital and 2Pac
laughed before saying, Why are you taking me to the hospital, you re the one who got shot in the head.
Perhaps the most pressing piece of evidence that he is still alive isn t what has been said, but has
remained unsaid. Time magazine reports that police spokesman Phil Roland said, We re puzzled that
his whole entourage had their heads turned and didn t see anything. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;
nbsp;Actions have been taken that lead us to presume that 2Pac has to still be alive. A majority of
these actions were taken by 2Pac himself. In interviews prior to the shooting, he discussed how he
wanted to stop rapping, being a gangster, and step out of the limelight. Approximately one month
before the shooting occurred, Tupac recorded a new video for the song I Ain t Mad At Cha. In this
video, 2Pac walks out of a Las Vegas club and is shot much in the manner of how his death had really
occurred. He dies in the ambulance and goes to heaven. Is the fact that the September 7th shooting
closely resembles his video extremely coincidental or was it planned? Also, while on the subject of
videos, in the video To Live and Die in L.A. he wore a pair of the new Jordan s before they even came
out. Tupac s name change also leads one to believe his death has been faked.

Five Walt Whitman poems. Metaphors, diction, syntax, form,...
Walt Whitman s poetry is relatively formless and his random patterns have a significant effect on the
meaning evoked from the poems. Whitman has a constant theme of the link between nature/natural
experience and humans. He expresses his emotions and opinions through his poems. Some of his
poems are very personable, which makes them very easier to understand and more enjoyable to read.
Crossing Brooklyn Ferry is a poem about the sharing of experiences. All humans are somehow
connected through the common experiences they encounter. It has no rhyme scheme or form and it is

Tributes For The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is a first person point of view story about a sixteen year old
woman named Katniss Everdeen struggling to survive in a future dystopian world. This new nation,
Panem, is viewed as a utopia by residents of the Capitol, but it is instead seen as a harsh war zone by
many of the Capitol s twelve outlying districts. Years ago, the districts attempted a rebellion against
the Capitol, but unfortunately failed, resulting in many deaths and extreme penalties. As punishment
for this war, the Capitol requires one male and one female tribute from each district to participate in
the Hunger Games, an annual event that requires the twenty four tributes to fight to the death until one

Organ Trafficking In China Research Paper
Addisyn Fair
Mrs. Galan
Lang Arts 3B
7 April 2016
Organ Trafficking in China The ever escalating amounts of organ trafficking in China have reached an
all time high with the number rising to 10,000 black market operations occurring annually (Gianotti).
This equates to more than one transplant operation per hour with thousands of people being tricked or
forced (whether by situation or poverty) into selling their organs for money or even having them
stolen. China has a high rate of all forms of human trafficking that is continuing to rise as a gradually
growing problem without anything to slow it down. Organ trafficking is not excluded from this, and

being practiced by the Chinese government. A group of doctors, lawyers and international activists
met at the United Nations Headquarters in order to address the 2 million signatures submitted to
investigate what China s government was doing to stop the rising levels of organ trafficking occurring
within the country (Gianotti). The signatures were a petition to get the U.N. to look into the organ
harvesting that China s government was committing. This information was spread about to the point
where millions of people signed the petition to investigate what was occurring. Other parts of the
world are now very aware of the fact that China was harvesting organs after death from criminals and
Fulan Dafa practitioners. This is considered forced organ harvesting that is a form of human
trafficking performed by the government and not considered illegal

Researchers tested how team based learning (TBL) strategies affected the performance and attitudes of
college students in a sociology class (Killian Bastas, 2015). More specifically, they compared student
performance and attitudes in a sociology class that employed TBL strategies to that of sociology class
that used lecture based learning (LBL) strategies (Killian Bastas, 2015). The number of participants in
the study was 86, however, 12 students did not complete their attitude survey; therefore the research
was based off of 74 students (Killian Bastas, 2015). The LBL classes included 31 of the total
participants, and 43 students were included in the TBL classes (Killian Bastas, 2015). Of the total
participants, 53 were females and 21 were males (Killian Bastas, 2015). TBL was described as an
active learning strategy that upheld team interconnections and individual accountability (Killian

Carmelite Monks of Wyoming?
Yes father Daniel has established the future of the Carmelite monks of Wyoming. He specified the
sense of the directions and revelation for the goal.
His biggest vision included expanding the monastery by acquiring the Irma lake ranch listed price of
$8.9 million. This would enable a retreat center, a gothic church, and a convert for Carmelite nuns,

And executing strategy for the monastery s coffee operations? Are changed needed
In its long term direction? Its objectives? Its strategy? Its approach to strategy execution? Explain.
The executing strategy of the Father Daniel in not 100% perfect but since it s based on a religious

Similarities And Differences Between Hamlet And Much Ado...
In William Shakespeare s works, emotions surrounding relationships are presented at different
intensities depending on the genre of the play. Hamlet is a passionate and dark play, where the main
character plots a scheme to avenge his father s murder. As a result, emotions between Ophelia and
Hamlet are heightened and the consequences that arise are severe. Contrastingly, in the comedy Much
Ado About Nothing , Shakespeare intends for a light hearted storyline approach. Conflicts in
relationships, such as Hero and Claudio s, are both less dramatic and a better representative of issues
that arose in the 14th Century. By comparing Hamlet and Much Ado About Nothing , we are able to

However, Claudio s commitment to a relationship with Hero is in question from the very beginning as

his friend Benedick and declares, In mine eye she is the sweetest lady that ever I looked on . While
Claudio can t be criticised for falling for an attractive woman, but his eagerness to suddenly get
married can be questioned. After his first meeting with Hero, Claudio goes to Leonato to propose
marriage. This reveals a window shopping lifestyle in the 14th Century, a time when it was acceptable

Throughout the semester we really had to watch the markets in order to obtain a successful portfolio.
The way we approached this task was through constant watching of the securities market to find out
current trends as well as picking up stocks we thought were undervalued at that time. The latter, of
course, applies to our managed portfolio, where we were able to select stocks we deemed were good
investments. We observed that this specific portfolio gave us more stable returns, which we attributed
to the lower betas of these stocks. One can also conclude that the worst performers of the same
portfolio were due the same cause. Based on the returns of our managed portfolio, one can conclude

CVS Caremark Corp: Clearly, we got this one right and it was our best investment. We thought this
was a safe stock to purchase because it was a top 20 company in the 2013 Fortune 500 list as well as
operating in an industry that has been in great demand by the American population as it is aging

company operates only in the US, so it had a great opportunity to seize the market of overweight
Americans who suffer from several diseases related to this problem, and have to buy one or several

Colgate Palmolive Co: This was another good investment in our opinion. The company had a low beta

good component for our portfolio to hedge against stocks that held greater risk. Although the company
has been known to harm the environment by consuming high levels of palm oil, we believed that this
fact would not interfere with the growth potential of the company as the numbers indicated that it was
a reliable investment.

We Watched As A Class
A. The first term to be discussed is Group. States by Henslin as Set of people who interact on the basis

A part of being in MS 13 is that all people involved are one group. They all follow the same rules and
respect the same leader. In parts of the documentary we watched as a class, we seen how MS 13 is ran

B. The next term to be discussed is Status. Henslin defines status as Socially defined position in a
group or in a society. Each status has attached to it one or more roles .
When most people think of the word status, they think of where it places them in society. If you have a
higher status you might be considered a more important human being. If you have a lower status you
might be considered poor or in poverty . But what does it mean to have a status as a gang? That
questions certainly can t be answered by me correctly, however I would imagine in a world of gangs
having the highest status would make you the most feared gang. If you are going to join a gang, it
might as well be one worth joining such as MS 13. If MS 13 is recognized worldwide as the most
dangerous gang then they probably are! Having a status like that on the streets would make other
gangs stay away from you, as well as make people afraid to tell you no or show you consequences. In
the video we watched as a class police enforcement coming up short every time when they would bust
them for drugs or something else. It made me wonder if the police really were being out smarted or if
they didn t want to dig too deep into an unfamiliar territory. Even though MS 13 is recognized as the
world s most dangerous gang, everyone seems to know little information about them. It is still

The Border Cities Of El Paso And Ciudad Juarez
Along the Texas/Mexico border there are many border cities, and among the border cities there is a
trend that points to an advantage of prosperity on the US side compared to the Mexican side of the
border. The border cities of El Paso and Ciudad Juarez show an example of the US advantage over the
Mexican side; El Paso is a Texas city on the Texas/Mexico border, and in 2014 it was the city with the
lowest crime rate in the US ; Ciudad Juarez, on the other hand was known as one of the deadliest cities
in Mexico . Along with the differences in crime rates, El Paso and Ciudad Juarez have many
differences that make them clear examples of the advantage that Texas border cities hold over
Mexican border cities.
Crime
In 2010, Ciudad Juarez was one of the most violent cities in all of Mexico with 3,057 murders .
Ciudad Juarez became an example of the extent of the drug war that was occurring in Mexico in the
2000s. Death had become a common occurrence in Ciudad Juarez. At the height of the drug war in
Mexico, between the years of 2007 and 2012, around 11,078 people were murdered in Ciudad Juarez .
In contrast to Ciudad Juarez, El Paso had the lowest crime rate in the US in 2014 . According to the
Neighborhood Scout website s interactive map, crime rates in the city of El Paso are for the most part
low, but near the border there is a high crime rate. The higher crime rate found along the border is
probably due to the ongoing drug trade and illegal immigration that occurs along the

differences between U.S, and Japanese accounting practices as well as the management accounting

management system and the role of that system cannot be completely understood without considering
the organizational context and the goals that are to be achieved.
United States companies such as Ford Motor Company tend to put more emphasis on manufacturing

the success and innovation of the products that are introduced. The accounting system used by the two
is similar in some ways and differ in many others. The key area where they tend to come together is
the bottom line which is where the final numbers are clear. Some feel as though to further shed light

suburban Australia in the 1950s and 1960s and its culture. Dawe s ideas and attitudes are formed from
his personal experiences of post WW2 Australia which includes the modern living introduced in the
suburbs and the commercialism and isolation that it formed. His poem Enter without so much as
knocking closely links Dawe s ideas of the new environment suburbia created with the commercialism
power structure that came with it. In his poem Homo Suburbiensis he effectively explores the isolation
and escapism the newly established suburbs post WW2 Australia thrived on. These views Dawe shares
in his poems show the Australian culture of the suburbs post WW2 including the commercialism,
isolation and escapism it brought.
In Bruce Dawe s poems Homo Suburbiensis and Enter Without So Much as Knocking contemporary
suburban living in Australia is heavily explored through the use of literary techniques.
In Dawe s Homo Suburbiensis the modern suburban lifestyle is portrayed through the use of
onomatopoeia.

The Australian suburban lifestyle in the 1950s and 1960s was centred around the idea of a new and
modern variety of man that was different from those that could be found elsewhere. In Enter without

conformist ideology due to the rules the society followed. In the poem, this is shown through the use

Characteristics Of Aeneas A Hero
Despite his accomplishments and the glory associated with his life, Aeneas only achieves the status of
hero through divine intervention, and this god given position causes him just as much grief as it does
splendor.
What is a hero? We would like to think that a hero is someone who has achieved some fantastic goal
or status, or maybe someone who has accomplished a great task. Heroes find themselves in situations
of great pressure and act with nobility and grace. Though the main character of Virgil s Aeneid,
Aeneas, is such a person, it is not by his own doing. He encounters situations in which death is near, in
which love, hate, peace, and war come together to cause both good and evil. In these positions he
conducts himself with honor, by going along with what the gods want. Only then goes on to pave the
way for the Roman Empire. His deeds, actions, and leadership would never have come to be if it were
not for the gods. The gods took special interest in Aeneas, causing him misfortune in some cases,
giving him assistance in others. On the whole, the gods constantly provide perfect opportunities for
Aeneas to display his heroism. Without them, Aeneas would not be the hero he is. This gift does not
come without a price, though; he must endure the things heroes endure to become what they are.
Despite his accomplishments and the glory associated with his life, Aeneas only achieves the status of
hero through divine intervention, and this god given position causes him

Deadly Nerve Gases
In The Nazi origins of deadly nerve gases, Sarah Everts explores the discovery of one of the most
deadly chemical weapons, nerve gas. Nerve gas was unintentionally discovered by a German chemist
named Gerhard Schrader while trying to produce a new insecticide. The combination of phosphorus
and cyanide led to the discovery of the toxic nerve agent tabun, which interested the German
military1. Soon after, the German military recruited Schrader and he began to synthesize a new nerve
agent that was twice as toxic as tabun called sarin. The name of the nerve agent is an acronym
composed of the last names of the scientists that help produce it: Schrader, Otto Ambros, Gerhard
Ritter, and Hans Jurgen von der Linde1. Moreover, Richard Kuhn, a Nobel

The Embargo On Cuba And The United States
In December 2014, President Obama started restoring diplomatic relations with Cuba. Cuba and the
United States have been hostile since the Cuban Revolution of 1959, when Fidel Castro overthrew the
US supportedbacked dictator, Fulgencio Batista, and established a Communist regime. The US
rejected Castro s bid for equal economic partnership because they wanted to maintain economic
dominance. As such, Castro began seizing US assets, causing back and forth actions that culminated in
Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy placing an embargo in 1960 61. The embargo was intensified in
the 1990s, and attempts to relax sanctions cannot succeed without Congress repealing the laws
responsible for the embargo. Despite arguments that it would help fight human rights violations, the
US embargo on Cuba should be lifted because of its historic ineffectiveness, the potential economic
advantages of a repeal, and the democratic values shown by the popularity of a repeal.
Historically, the embargo has been caused by errant foreign policy, and has failed to achieve its goals
for 55 years. As President Obama said, These 50 years have shown that isolation has not worked . . .
We will end an outdated approach that for decades has failed to advance our interests (Baker). Cuba
aligned with the USSR partly because of initial US hostility, and such policy is called an egregious
foreign policy error, . . . in effect pushing Castro to become more inflexible (Walke and Bourassa).

Hamida is the character that represents the people who yearn for a change. Often, she feels as though
she is worth more than just living in the old alley and she calls it a Nothing Alley (27) and asking
herself Oh what a shame Hamida, what are you doing living in this alley? (27) . During World War II,
many people in Midaq Alley go to work for the soldiers in the hope of earning more money and living
in a more comfortable life. Hamida is one of those people who sacrifice themselves and everything
that they have in an exchange for the wealthy life they always have dreamed of. Hamida is not a
religious person and has a different perspective from the people in the alley because she sees a better
life in the modern world. In the end, she decides to become a prostitute for pretty clothes and
jewelries. She does not regret choosing this life as she is able to have an opportunity that gives her
desire for life and adventure (186) .
The older generations are the people who do not get affected by the new culture replacing their old
one as it is hard to break their habits and traditions. Furthermore, they do not have the desire for
adventure and leaving their homes behind. The last group of the three categories would be Abbas. He

A Comparison Of David Hockney And Christopher Isherwood
There are people today, who never realize just how much of a blessing Los Angeles is. This, City of
Angels , is like paradise with its warm sunlight on individuals who each have their own story. People
in this city usually do not have anything to hide, due to affecting and inspiring one another, such as
homosexuals. Other cities in the past, such as London, despised the thought of two people, of the same
sex, engaging in an intimate relationship. Los Angeles however, could not have appeared any more of
a haven to two gay British men, David Hockney and Christopher Isherwood, due to its standard of
living, how the people there had a particular set of beliefs and attitudes, and the gay scene being
different than that of London.
Before Los Angeles, before their successful careers, David Hockney and Christopher Isherwood were
both just two boys from England. Christopher Isherwood, who was born in the year 1904 roughly
thirty years before David Hockney was born was a privileged young boy as he was related to a
country squire. Even though he was privileged, Christopher s family was incomplete due to his distant
parents. With his parents being distant, and having to be sent to boarding school at age 8, it created a
sense of loneliness for Christopher. Luckily, Christopher formed friendships over the years to fill the
void; a couple of his friends being Wynstan Auden and Edward Upward. In 1925, Christopher was
expelled from Cambridge University due to not taking his

Assess The Goal Of Drug Development
Drug development is the process of bringing a new pharmaceutical drug to the market. The main goal
of drug development is to produce safe and efficacious therapeutic products for the promotion of
health, and the prevention, cure and treatment of disease.
In order to assess the safety and effectiveness of new drugs, they are extensively tested before being
used in isolated cells, tissue slices or organs. Firstly, a new medical drug is tested using computer
models and human cells grown in the laboratory. If the drug passes the first stage it is then tested on
animals. In the UK, new medicines have to undergo these tests, but it is illegal to test cosmetics and
tobacco products on animals.

Essay about Sin Taxes POLS 5440 Principles and Processes of Government Budgeting | Sin Taxes, Good or Bad? | An Examination of the Use of Sin Taxes in the United States | By: Stacy Madden4/27/2012 | Executive Summary Historically sin taxes have been an effective and efficient way for the government to raise revenue. Goods or services generally taxed through sin tax policy have some common characteristics including inelastic demand, promote behavior that is harmful to the individual, and promote behavior that is harmful to others. Characteristics Of Aeneas A Hero Despite his accomplishments and the glory associated with his life, Aeneas only achieves the status of hero through divine intervention, and this god given position causes him just as much grief as it does splendor. What is a hero? We would like to think that a hero is someone who has achieved some fantastic goal or status, or maybe someone who has accomplished a great task. Heroes find themselves in situations of great pressure and act with nobility and grace. Though the main character of Virgil s Aeneid, Aeneas, is such a person, it is not by his own doing. He encounters situations in which death is near, in which love, hate, peace, and war come together to cause both good and evil. In these positions he conducts himself with honor, by going along with what the gods want. Only then goes on to pave the way for the Roman Empire. His deeds, actions, and leadership would never have come to be if it were not for the gods. The gods took special interest in Aeneas, causing him misfortune in some cases, giving him assistance in others. On the whole, the gods constantly provide perfect opportunities for Aeneas to display his heroism. Without them, Aeneas would not be the hero he is. The name of the nerve agent is an acronym composed of the last names of the scientists that help produce it: Schrader, Otto Ambros, Gerhard Ritter, and Hans Jurgen von der Linde1. • 23. The Embargo On Cuba And The United States In December 2014, President Obama started restoring diplomatic relations with Cuba. Cuba and the United States have been hostile since the Cuban Revolution of 1959, when Fidel Castro overthrew the US supportedbacked dictator, Fulgencio Batista, and established a Communist regime. The US rejected Castro s bid for equal economic partnership because they wanted to maintain economic dominance. As such, Castro began seizing US assets, causing back and forth actions that culminated in Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy placing an embargo in 1960 61. The embargo was intensified in the 1990s, and attempts to relax sanctions cannot succeed without Congress repealing the laws responsible for the embargo. Despite arguments that it would help fight human rights violations, the US embargo on Cuba should be lifted because of its historic ineffectiveness, the potential economic advantages of a repeal, and the democratic values shown by the popularity of a repeal. Historically, the embargo has been caused by errant foreign policy, and has failed to achieve its goals for 55 years. As President Obama said, These 50 years have shown that isolation has not worked . . . We will end an outdated approach that for decades has failed to advance our interests (Baker). Cuba aligned with the USSR partly because of initial US hostility, and such policy is called an egregious foreign policy error, . . . in effect pushing Castro to become more inflexible (Walke and Bourassa). • 32. A Comparison Of David Hockney And Christopher Isherwood There are people today, who never realize just how much of a blessing Los Angeles is. This, City of Angels , is like paradise with its warm sunlight on individuals who each have their own story. People in this city usually do not have anything to hide, due to affecting and inspiring one another, such as homosexuals. Other cities in the past, such as London, despised the thought of two people, of the same sex, engaging in an intimate relationship. Los Angeles however, could not have appeared any more of a haven to two gay British men, David Hockney and Christopher Isherwood, due to its standard of living, how the people there had a particular set of beliefs and attitudes, and the gay scene being different than that of London. Before Los Angeles, before their successful careers, David Hockney and Christopher Isherwood were both just two boys from England. Christopher Isherwood, who was born in the year 1904 roughly thirty years before David Hockney was born was a privileged young boy as he was related to a country squire. Even though he was privileged, Christopher s family was incomplete due to his distant parents. With his parents being distant, and having to be sent to boarding school at age 8, it created a sense of loneliness for Christopher. Luckily, Christopher formed friendships over the years to fill the void; a couple of his friends being Wynstan Auden and Edward Upward. In 1925, Christopher was expelled from Cambridge University due to not taking his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
