Juveniles and the Justice System Essay
The United States sentences more juveniles to death than any other nation in the world (Justice, 2009)
and our juveniles are being sentenced as young as ten years of age. These are juveniles being tried as
adults, and something has to change and change fast. The younger generation is supposed to be our
future leaders. How will our juveniles or the citizens of this country prevail if this continues we won t
be able to because most of our future leaders will be prisoner. (B, 2005) The U.S made legal history in
1989 when the world s first juvenile court opened in Chicago (Rank, J.) Since 1990 many states have
also adopted the get tough approach to juvenile justice as a response to the increasingly violent crimes
committed by children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Rank, J.) According to the FBI Arrest Statistics from 1994 to 2000 the crimes committed by juveniles
between the ages of 10 to 17 was reported as 80% to 65%, which was high and then slowly decrease,
whereas in 2001 to 2007 the crimes committed by juveniles between the ages of 10 to 17 has
increased from 68% to 75% and the crimes that are being committed range from violent crimes of rape
and murder to non violent crimes such as forgery and counterfeiting. The FBI provides their annual
data files containing agency based arrest counts to the National Archive of Criminal Justice Data
(NACJD) within the Inter university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) at the
University of Michigan with funds from the Bureau of Justice Statistics, NACJD aggregates agency
level counts to the county level, and then applies an estimation procedure to compensate for the under
reporting and no reporting agencies within the county. (Puzzanchera, 2009) A poll was done
concerning Rehabilitation verses Incarceration of Juvenile Offenders . The poll consisted of asking tax
payers would they rather pay $50 or more for incarceration of a juvenile or $100 for rehabilitation.
More tax payers were willing to pay for additional rehabilitation than for additional punishment the
average amount that the tax payers were willing to is 20% more then incarceration (98.49 versus
$84.52) it is visually clear that tax payers are willing

Schindler s List by Thomas Keneally Essay
Schindler s List by Thomas Keneally
Thomas Keneally has accomplished his goal with Schindler s List. It beautifully and completely
realizes the honest story of a man who was an astounding leader in every respect. This book captures
with accuracy and poignancy a part of history that every member of every society must know about
and never forget, and to do it in novel form is a sign of Keneally s extraordinary ingenuity. To begin
with, Oskar Schindler s embodiment of the leadership characteristics we have discussed in class is
evident. Charisma, perhaps our most highly discussed quality, is his trademark. Schindler cleverly
finds ways to relate to the SS officers and soldiers not only through bribes of high class gifts, but
through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps we could compare him to another leader, President William Jefferson Clinton, in his
exemplification of charisma. Another trait crucial to Schindler s leadership is the ability to shrewdly
harness the skills of others. The most obvious example of this ability is his employment of the Jewish
accountant Itzhak Stern. Despite the fact that Stern is Jew, Schindler knows he is the best man to help
run his business and keep track of his finances and contacts. He immediately recognizes Stern s ability
and puts his trust in him. Likewise, Schindler s utilization of Poldek Pfefferberg to connect him to the
black market is an equally important union. His trust in Pfefferberg also demonstrates his strong
character judgment. Moreover, another apparent manifestation of this quality is Schindler s use of the
Jews in his factory. Besides the fact that they were inexpensive, he knew that they would be
dependable and efficient. Finally, our leader develops an ongoing partnership with the evil
Hauptsturmfuhrer Amon Goeth to get what he needs, his workers. We could similarly compare
Schindler s recognition of trustworthy people and sense of opportunity in taking advantage of the
skills of others to leaders we have discussed in class like Ross Perot. Perhaps most importantly,
compassion is what Schindler may be most remembered for. Despite his image as a shrewd,
opportunistic businessman, the entrepreneur

Arguments Against Abortion
Introduction Although, currently legalized, abortion continues to be a burdening ethical issue in
America. From 1973 to 2011 approximately 53 million legal abortions were performed in the United
States (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Pro Choice supporters hail an abortion is a woman s choice and a
protected personal right that should not be limited by governmental or religious authority (Procon.org,
2015, p.1). However, Pro Life supporters contend that a human life begins at the very moment of
conception and thus an abortion is the immoral killing of an innocent human being (Procon.org, 2015,
p.1). Thus, there are various arguments to be considered on both sides.

Many contend that in attempting to delegalized abortions the government ... Show more content on

Pro Life supporters insist that a child is considered a human being at the very moment of conception.
Thus, abortion is murder and is unethical because the right to live was stripped from the child. A child
can be aborted up to 24 weeks of life and in some states later (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Furthermore, a
fetus does feel pain during the abortion procedure because by eight weeks the most primitive response
to pain, the spinal reflex, is developed (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Moreover, the psychological affects of
an abortion can be overwhelming such as increased depression and anxiety (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). A
2002 peer reviewed study published by the Southern Medical Journal... found that women who
aborted were 154% more likely to commit suicide than women who carried to term (Procon.org, 2015,
p.1). Pro Life supporters believe women must not be able to use an abortion as a means of
contraception. If one becomes pregnant, one must be responsible for the child they have brought to the
world. Thousands of families desire to adopt children, thus abortion significantly reduces the number
of adoptable babies (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Lastly, abortion promotes a culture in which human life is
disposable and it is acceptable to rid of a life that inconveniences you (Procon.org, 2015,

Caligari And Metropolis
The banned of foreign films by the German government led to an increase of domestic film
productions, giving way for film artist to embrace the change and experiment with bold ideas and
artistic styles to make up for their lack of budgets. Such film includes The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
(Robert Wiene, 1920) and Metropolis (Fritz Lang, 1927) often dealt with plots concerning with
insanity, betrayal, authority and other issues that were triggered by WWI. This paper will primarily
discuss on how these silent films disregard realism because of Germany s unconventional shift
towards Modernism and its socio political conditions. The second part of this paper will enlighten on
how German Expressionist film acts as an influence in the cinematic world.

Caligari and Metropolis identify as an Expressionist film mainly because of its unusual lighting, the
stylisation of the sets and dramatic acting (Elsaesser 20). The practitioner were also able to produce, a
set of gothic study materials, fairytale motifs, angular exteriors, claustrophobic interiors and above all
, in Elsaesser s words, excess of soul ascribed to things still typically German (20). These progressive
trends practiced by Expressionist artist help to create subjective perspectives in the German s
cinematic world, distorting it radically in order to stir emotional effects, and evoking progressive
moods and ideas for the spectators. Clearly, these socially progressive trends of activism to create, and
improve conventional films through experiments and the use of techniques that draws attention is a
typical act of Modernism (Berman 16). With their gradual modernistic ideas, German Expressionist

Compare And Contrast Alka-Seltzer With Hydrochloric Acid
The purpose of this experiment was to mix Alka Seltzer with Hydrochloric acid in order to analyze
Sodium Bicarbonate as an active ingredient in the Alka Seltzer. The mixture will contain hydrochloric
acid to only see the composition of Sodium Bicarbonate in the tablet once it reacts. The amount that
reacted allowed us to determine how much of it is present in the tablet. The amount of sodium
bicarbonate will be measure by using the ideal gas law PV=nRT. The experiment will be conducted in
the lab, therefore we are going to use room temperature which ranges from 15 to 26 degrees celsius.
At room temperature pressure ranges from 12.8 to 25.0 millimeters mercury according to its
corresponding room temperature. In the ideal gas equation R is 0.08206latm/mol k which is a constant.
Once we have those values we can calculates the number of moles that reacted in the mixture by
solving for the missing value. With the number of moles we are able to find the mass in grams which
is what will potentially tell us the composition of Sodium Bicarbonate in a tablet of Alka Seltzer.
Results: There were three different runs in order to have comparable data and to increase the validity
of the experiment. The first run gave 39% of Sodium Bicarbonate. The second run gave 34% of
Sodium Bicarbonate while the third one gave 39%, which is the same as the first run. The average
percentage was 37% which is much lower than the manufacturer s percentage of 59%. The percent
error came out to be 37%.
Discussion: The manufacturer results shows that Alka Seltzer has 1.9 grams per tablet. In the
experiment the results are too small compared to the number that is given by the label. In the first run
only .0588 grams reacted to the acid. That suggest that the tablet only contains 0.588 grams of sodium
bicarbonate which is very different from the manufacturers. The second run gave an even smaller
number of gram. In terms of moles only .0007 reacted in the first and third run and only .0006 in the
second run. There are many factor that could had alter the amount of moles that reacted to the acid
which affected the result in showing that there is a smaller composition of sodium bicarbonate in the
tablet than that of the manufacturer s. The

Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes and Johnny Tremain by Disney were both different, yet they were
the same in some ways, too. There were no extreme changes, in terms of the plot. Some things,
although, were left out of the movie that were in the book. The book definitely had more information
and detail than the movie. In this essay, I will be talking about the character differences, Mr. Lyte, and
the concept. I prefer the book, but I recommend the movie, also. One extreme change was that there
was no Dove, Isannah, or Pumpkin in the movie. Dove was a very important character. He gave
Johnny a cracked crucible on purpose when Johnny was breaking the law on Sunday. Johnny did it to

Glass Movie Reflection
As I watched the movie, I noticed a variety of hints that made me question Glass character and I was a
little frustrated that the other characters weren t able to pick up on them. I first sensed that Glass was a
little odd when he kept downgrading himself and his own work. This begins when Glass is talking to
Gloria and he says that his piece is going Horrible and moves into a meeting with Amy and Caitlin
where he says that they hate his piece, it s the worst thing he s ever wrote , and that he might as well
kill himself . This all happening within the first ten minutes of the movie, was causing red flags to pop
up in my head, wondering how he could be so self loathing and dramatic without anyone noticing. As
the movie progresses, I can see that Glass is using his self loathing to manipulate his coworkers into
helping him on his papers, dodging discipline from editors, and averting inquisitiveness away from his
pieces. One of the key phrases that I noticed he always used was Did I do something wrong? Are you
mad at me? which usually was reverberated with a resilient no . This stressed that he was emotionally
manipulating his coworkers in order to get away with his falsified work. All of these actions are what I
would consider a flawed person. His manipulation, blatant lies, and exaggeration s are what I believe
make him a flawed especially when he applied it to his line of work. The reason that these attributes

The Economy Of The Oil Industry
Over the last years, the oil industry practiced its deepest recession since 1990s. That being said, the
recovery for this industry finally starts getting better. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting
Countries approved to change the production last year, 2016. This arrangement has been holding over
to this year, with oil prices increasing for the past several months. But in recent weeks, United States
records have been found greater oil prices have been faded. Experts think it will be years before oil
returns $100 a barrel, a price that was regular till late 2014. But after the oil price recovered from
below $30 in early 2016 to over $50 by the end of the year, there was increasing certainty in the
industry that crude oil could rise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is why prices began to decrease. In December 2014 the price went down to $55.48 per barrel. At
that point, many people projected that Saudi Arabia and other oil producers will cut back on their own
production to changes prices, as they had in the past. Of course that didn t happen. Saudi Arabia
decided to increase production in order to keep its market share, hoping that the decrease in oil prices
would crush US oil industries, who require higher prices to stay gainful. And that s when things got
really interesting. Ever since Saudi Arabia s decision to maintain output in late 2014, prices have kept
dropping and reducing. This happened because supply continued strong and demand became weaker
than estimated. This shows that US drillers turned out to be far more adaptable to low oil prices than
the Saudis thought. As firms cut costs and increased productivity in order to keep the oil flowing . (Oil
Prices: What to Make of the Volatility.) In the meantime, major developing economies like China,
Russia, and Brazil put a discouragement on the oil industry. An unusually mild winter helped
overpower demand for heating oil, and also a stronger dollar means that some countries now have to
pay more for crude imports. Car owners in places like the United States, Europe, and Japan are paying
less for gasoline, which means they have more money to spend on other things than gas. This is why
oil businesses here in the United

Coral Snake Evolution
Dr. Cox s main focus is on the forces that initiate the evolutionary pattern of color polymorphism and
mimetic coloration using coral snake mimicry as a useful model to study convergent evolution. Coral
snake mimicry can be used to show how selection and other evolutionary processes drive powerful
phenotypes among populations. Cox s research revolves around the opposition of previous objections
to coral snake mimicry to show that several harmless, nonvenomous snakes are mimics of highly
venomous snakes. This led to the arise of new questions as to what are the evolutionary forces driving
color pattern and how geography shapes genetic and biological diversity within and among species.
While the study was conducted using several different snake species, Cox wanted to know the
evolutionary forces driving spatial and temporal color pattern in polymorphism in North American
ground snakes. His fascination with the North American ground snake was because this particular
species showed vivid examples of color polymorphism due to the presence or absence of black cross
bands and a dorsal red stripe on the snake. Both of these traits are associated with coral snake mimicry
and are color polymorphisms. The presence or absence of these traits make up four different morphs

Gravity is one of the dominant forces acting to move water down slope, and the shear stress (τ), or the
resisting force exerted by bed and bank material act as the force opposing down slope movement
(Leopold et al., 1964). The variables considered in table 1 allow us to determine wither sediment of a
certain size will become mobile at bankfull flow, and ultimately be able to shape the stream channel.
In order for median sized sediment to become entrained, the bed shear stress (τb) must be greater than
the critical shear stress (τc), or the resistance force of the sediment quantified by the Shields number.
The streams ability to transport large clasts can be assessed using the Costa entrainment velocity, and
the critical value for the deposition of large clasts (τb) that may have been mobilized further up stream
can be estimated using the O Connor equation. The values assessed can ultimately offer insight into
stream power or the energy available for sediment transport and

The Effect Of Enzyme Concentration On The Rate Of Starch...

Lab Report #1
The Effect of α Amylase Concentration on the Rate of Starch Hydrolysis in a Porcine Pancreas
Introduction:
Our body uses various different types of molecules that work together in order to keep us functioning.
One of these molecules is called amylase. Amylase is an enzyme that breaks up the glucose chains in
starch into maltose. Enzymes work to speed up a reaction by lowering the activation energy needed
for the reaction to occur. There are three different types of amylase: α amylase, β amylase, and γ
amylase. α Amylase is commonly found in saliva and pancreas of many animals. In this experiment,
we used porcine pancreatic α amylase in order to find the effect of different factors on the rate of the
digestion of starch. The activity of α Amylase can be affected by the concentration of amylase, the pH
of the environment surrounding amylase, and the temperature that the reaction using amylase occurs
in. This indicates that a change in any of these factors can affect the enzyme, increasing or decreasing
the rate that the reaction occurs: in the case of amylase it indicates the rate that starch is digested, or
maltose is created. All enzymes, α Amylase included, operate best in an optimal range of pH,
temperature, and concentration; at these optimal conditions the reaction will occur in the fastest
amount of time (Ceska et al., 1969). In particular, this report will focus on the effects of enzyme

The Importance Of African Traditional Medicine
Hook. As stated by Helaine Selin, African traditional medicine represents the sum of the people s
medicinal knowledge as well as beliefs, skills, and practices used in diagnosing, preventing, or
eliminating a physical, mental, or social disequilibrium (Selin 679). Elaborate. Despite British
colonization of Nigeria during the 19th and 20th century, the Igbo tribe of Nigeria used various
methods of traditional medicine as a prominent practice of medicine throughout history.
The Igbo, like many other cultures around the world, have a set tradition to medicine. In fact, For
thousands of years a majority of the world s population had used and continues to use the traditional
method of healing and medicine. Similarly, the African people have used methods of healing suited to
Africa (Osuji 95). This suggests that the Igbo tribe is among the many African tribes to use traditional
medicine, as opposed to modern medicine, and they have used it for millennia. In addition, they
incorporate multiple aspects of religion into medicine, for their spiritual beliefs act as the core to
which their lives revolve. For instance, they refer to spirits as the source of power for common
treatments, for spirit forces energize medicine that individuals can conjure and deploy for strength,
protection, or to harm enemies (Arinze 4365). In addition, traditional doctors themselves play a major
role in connecting patients to the spiritual worlds. As stated by Ali Arazeem Abdullahi, Traditional

Dating Research
The appropriate age to start dating is always a debate. People have diverse views on the age which
someone should date. Dating can be a magnificent social experience, it can also be a negative social
experience. A person needs to be mature enough to understand the feelings that go with dating a
significant other. Most importantly, the goal is to have fun, find a compatible mate, and keep the heart

A child s first heartbreak could be very scaring and emotional. When going through a heartbreak at an
older age, it is known that they do not last forever and the heart will be healed, but at a younger aged

seriously and be very sensitive when dealing with them. Moms and dads could do a number of things
to help their child through heartbreak. First, they could acknowledge that their child is in pain and they
will be happy again. Second, they should let their child feel sad and to cry about their break up.
Letting them express their feelings is very important because next time they will know it is okay to
express their feelings and they should not keep them bottled up. Third, the parent should encourage
them to spend time with their friends, but not push them to spend time with their friends. When the
child is ready to socialize, they will without hesitation. Lastly, the parent should share a story about
their young dating experiences. Sharing these stories shows the child that everyone goes through it,
and the heartbreak does not last forever. These helpful ideas could help the child get over their break

The Little Girl
We first hear the word power in our lifetime often when we are children. Usually in a question what is
your favorite super power ? Most children answer with abnormal abilities such as flying or invisibility.
In its most innocent way power is inherent we think of it as an ability. However as most children grow
up they learn that power isn t always on the good guys side. Power is defined as what enables one
person to control the behaviors of others . Power turns into a struggle from teacher to student, parents
to children, and any other relationship we possess.
Children for example need guidance and protection, therefore being a perfect example of the power
dynamic legitimate power. Legitimate power can be found within our culture and society from our
education system to our own respective family lives. Although many situations are different there is
likely someone seen in a position of power based off nothing more than their position in your life.
This can be seen in the movie crash where the little girl (Lara) believes and inherently trusts her father
(Danial). He has a right of power based on the fact he s her father which allows a level of trust, and
feeling of safety for the little girl. Furthermore legitimate power can also be found in work place
environments where employer and employee relationship are in continuous power struggles. This

Being invited by the secretary general of the United Nations makes her credibility appear stronger,
because it is an honor to be invited by someone of such importance to a national organization. She

Clinton states, Over the past 25 years, I have worked persistently on issues relating to women,
children, and families. Her providing the amount of time she has worked with women s rights and that
she has worked continuously on these issues makes her more credible. Being a woman provides
enough credibility to be able to speak on the rights of women, but traveling to other countries and
seeing how their women are treated contributes a proper understanding of how dire the situation truly

A final element which makes this speech effective is the use of style. Towards the middle of Clinton s
speech, she is talking about the violation of human rights. She begins seven sentences with It is a

Analysis Of Mary Shelly s Winning Frankenstein Essay
There are many books and movies, both fictional and non fictional that deal with some form of
criminological theory. While there are some that deal with that subject to either a more or lesser
extent, the interest of the audience ultimately depends on what events the story line includes and how
interesting did they make that specific event. I have decided to deal with 1818, award winning
Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. In the beginning of the story, a man name Robert Walton is searching
for a passage that connects Russia, the Pacific Ocean, and The Arctic Ocean. Having spent weeks out
there alone with his crew, he is shocked to see man nearly frozen to death out there. After rescuing the
man, he tells Walton that his name is Victor Frankenstein. Walton frequently writes his sister who lives
in England and tells her about Victor s terrible experience. Victor is from Switzerland and had been an
extremely, very brilliant child with a strong will to have more knowledge. When Victor went off to
University to quench his thirst for knowledge, a brutal illness strikes his adopted sister, Elizabeth, and
his mother. Unfortunately, Scarlet Fever takes his mother s life, but Elizabeth survives. At the
university, Victor had become the brightest person there, even among the teachers when it came to the
subject of science. Victor ponders at the idea if he could in fact make a person and bring it to life. He
decides that if he can accomplish this deed then he will perhaps be renowned the

Not only did this move reorganize three different organizations into one, but it also established a more
unified system. This in turn helped communication and response to threats. With a single organization,
instead of two or three, it helped keep the focus on the primary goal; there would be no more varying
paths. It was basically unified under one leadership. Another reason that this was done was because
the Customs and Border Protection was in need of a serious overhaul. Originally the Immigration and
Naturalization Service received its roots after the American Civil war. Many states began passing their
own laws regarding immigration, the federal government saw this as a problem and passed the
Immigration Act of 1891, making immigration a federal manner.(2010, Immigration and

early 1900 s immigration laws started becoming stricter to help protect U.S. citizens and their wages.
Laws in 1921 and 1924 began limiting the amount of Immigrants entering the U.S. based on quotas. In
1940, President Roosevelt transferred the INS to the department of Justice where it would remain for

A Short Note On My Performance Improvement Program Essay
PE STUDIES INTERNAL
Confidence is a key aspect to succeed
Confidence Belief in one s own abilities, self trust
When going to evaluate the effectiveness of my performance improvement programme I needed to
consider the experiences that I found when doing the programme and the trainings. I asked myself
when doing this programme like what is required in order to improve my kayaking skill level and is
confidence really the key to succeeding in improving my performance. In order to find out this
information I needed to be honest and clear in my vision to do this an unbiased judgement is needed in
evaluating my progress. A performance improvement programme for me in kayaking is key, due to
this sport being relatively new to me having no real experience. It s a good way to introduce me to
kayaking because it helps you evaluate new areas of the sport like doing an eskimo roll. A programme
like this helps me achieve and evaluate specific goals that are both realistic and achievable over a 6
week course and develop the skills and gain what knowledge is required e.g. hip flicking is the most
important aspect in rolling in my opinion. I believe it is important to evaluate yourself at the start of
the programme to get a gauge at what type of learning you are at, which in my case it was cognitive
stage which is defined as develops the understanding of how to perform the skill. Which in other
terms means you haven t practised the skill you re just learning about the skill. Its also

Anatomy of an Orchid Flower
Anatomy of an Orchid Flower
Despite the astonishing diversity found in the thousands of wild species and man made hybrids, orchid
flowers show an unmistakable family resemblance. Orchid flowers are generally bilaterally
symmetrical only a single imaginary line can be drawn through a flower to create a mirror image.
A typical orchid flower has three sepals (the outer segments that protect the bud before the flower
opens), alternating with three petals. The petals and sepals may be similar or not, showy or
inconspicuous.
The middle petal, which is always opposite the column, is usually quite different from the others.
Called the lip or labellum, it comes in a variety of shapes, depending on the species, and can be wavy

So in appealing to sex, these orchids limit their potential pollinators, which would seem to be a
reproductive disadvantage.
Despite the apparent drawback, sexual deception has evolved several times in different types of
orchids. So there must be some selective advantage, and researchers Salvatore Cozzolino and
Giovanni Scopece of the University of Naples Federico II, Steven Johnson of University of KwaZulu
Natal (South Africa) and Florian Schiestl of the University of Zürich appear to have figured out what
it is.
Schiestl and his team observed populations of 31 orchid species with varying pollination strategies in
Italy and Western Australia. They measured the amount of pollen that was taken from each orchid, and
the amount of pollen that made it to its intended destination another orchid of the same species.
They found that populations of sexually deceptive orchids had higher pollen transport efficiency than
the species with multiple pollinators. In other words, a higher percentage of the pollen that was taken
from sexually deceptive orchids actually made it to another orchid of the same species. The orchids
with multiple pollinators had more pollen taken from their flowers, but more of that pollen was lost
dropped to the ground or deposited in flowers of the wrong species.
So it appears that specializing with

Theology Of Fear Book Review
Fear is an emotion that is common today, both in the secular and Christian camps. Many become
scared over minute things, but then there are those who have strong fears about events in their past
that then cause fear about future events. How do we know when we should be fearful and when we
should simply be cautious? Overall, the book was excellent, and it offered a strong approach to
understanding fear and how to overcome it. And while I understand Dr. Ken Nichols s intent, I would
be interested in learning how to apply the content of this book in the context of a counseling session.
While reading the text, I found that there was not much emphasis given to the theology of fear as
outlined in Scripture. I understand that the book was an overview

The election of Franklin D. Roosevelt was considered a beacon of hope among the American people
following years of relentless economic hardship. Roosevelt s immense, decisive victory over Herbert
Hoover signified America wanted something different. Fortunately, Roosevelt did not disappoint. In
his first two years of office, Roosevelt devised a plan to shift America s financial crisis into a positive
direction; fundamentally, setting a new standard for government intervention in the economy. In
particular, one of Roosevelt s most significant economic plans would come to be known as the New

Mandatory monthly $25 allotment checks to families greatly boosted the American economy (

New Zealand s Constitutional Rules And Arrangements Essay
Firstly, the focus is on the fundamentals of New Zealand s constitutional rules and arrangements. A
constitution describes and establishes the major institutions of the government and endeavors to
regulate the power that they hold. The main constitutional institutions in New Zealand that are subject
to the constitution are the executive, the legislature, the judiciary and the Sovereign. The main features
of New Zealand s constitution is that it is a monarchy, it is a parliamentary system of government, and
it is a democracy. New Zealand s constitution is identified as an unwritten constitution because the key
constitutional rules and arrangements aren t written in one document. The rules and arrangements that
make up New Zealand s constitution can be found in legislation including, the Bill of Right 1688, the
Electoral Act 1993, Constitution Act 1986, the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990, the Treaty of
Waitangi Act 1975, the Judicature Act 1908, in the Cabinet Manual, judgments of the courts, the
Treaty of Waitangi, and in broader constitutional principles, doctrines, and conventions. Paine argued
a constitution must possess four key features; it must be a document, it is antecedent to government, it
must be comprehensive, and it must have the status of fundamental law. Whereas Morgan noted that a
constitution, whether it is written or unwritten, can only be authoritative if there is a broadly shared
consensus around its authority and legitimacy. Regardless of New

Arranged Marriages In America
Throughout society, marriage is seen as a special symbol of two people becoming one.
In the eastern side of the world, arranged marriages are very common. It is not like the western world
where couples date to know each other then choose whether they are the perfect match. Arranged
marriages are often chosen by the elders in the family. This practice has been handed down for
centuries. Throughout the marriage process, there are certain procedures that must be followed in
eastern matchmaking. Once a match has been chosen, the couple will learn over time that commitment
and acceptance comes prior to emotions and happiness. Even though our western ways may seem
normal to us, the traditions of eastern marriages are custom through procedure, commitment and
acceptance within their society.
While every traditional marriage may be different, the eastern custom has chosen to abide by long
established procedures. These procedures consist of family members who decide on what is best for
their offspring. The decisions which are considered range from family values, education, wealth, and
physical appearance. This practice has worked well for the union of marriage for the two chosen
individuals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Conch Shell Symbolism
What does the conch shell in Lord of the Flies truly represent? In Lord of the Flies by William
Golding, a group of young boys are stranded on an island where they try to maintain a civilization far
away from society. The conch shell that Piggy and Ralph find is used to create a small democracy on
the island. It is a symbol of the civilization on the island, the order that the boys have, and the power
that a single person can possess. It represents how much of a connection they have to society, and the
degree of civilization that still remains. The conch is an important part of their survival because
without the conch, the boys can no longer live in harmony with one another and will eventually
destroy each other. Without order and civilization, the island cannot be called a society. They can no
longer hold themselves together, and have a higher chance of destruction. Over time, the boys begin to
lose sight of civilization. When the conch is finally destroyed, the order between them is destroyed as
well. The conch shell symbolizes the boys civilization, order, and power. At the beginning of the story,
the conch is emphasized as a symbol of order, as that is the first idea that comes up when an assembly
is established. When the conch is blown, all of the boys head to the mountain where Piggy and Ralph
are located. The conch constituted order for them and allowed them to start a civilization in the first
place. It also represents power among the boys. Golding shows Ralph s

Leadership In Julius Caesar
What does leadership mean to someone? For most, it s how someone can make an impact. There are
many important aspects of being a leader. The power of a great leader starts with the right mindset and
willingness to accomplish what needs to be accomplished. One that is always a couple steps ahead and
is there to look out for others. In William Shakespeare s famous play, Julius Caesar, few characters
happen to have to right amount of potential to become a leader of Rome. With the death of the ruler
Julius Caesar, two counter viewing characters gave a speech about Caesar which caused different
reactions. One character in particular, Mark Antony, sticks out due to his great use of language and
how he created an impact on Rome s people. Marcus Brutus on the other hand, also attempted to
influence the people, but his inability to be more persuasive than Antony is what caused him to receive
the more negative feedback. Brutus indeed spoke logically, but Antony would happen to make a better
candidate as a leader because he spoke to the emotions of the people and knew what was right. Mark
Antony qualifies as a superior leader because of his ability to connect with the people and by proving
his loyalty. He is a solemn, confident, and persuasive man which are key reasons why he would make
an outstanding ruler. In Julius Caesar, his confidence often shows. The threefold world divided, he
should stand / One of the three to share it, (IV.i.14 15). Antony questioned whether or not Lepidus
would be fitting to rule a third of the world. Antony would take one half, Octavius the other half and
they would rule because he believed Lepidus was not capable. Antony s confidence shows his
capability of being a leader. Relating back to the speech given at Caesar s funeral, Brutus gave a
logical speech compared to Antony s persuasiveness which made the people have a different feedback
and overall different impact on who they believed was more trustworthy. Along with Antony s
confidence, his nobility towards others would have made him a great leader. His nobility was for
Julius Caesar especially, who he was very close to. When Caesar died, Antony wanted revenge
because of the unjust way he was murdered. Cry Havoc! and let slip the

Depressed Employees
Managing Depressed Part time Employees
Fair remuneration and favorable job design are positively linked to higher productivity and
satisfaction in employees. Employees may lack motivation to work if they perceive that the pay
structure in an organization is largely unfavorable to their interests. Income inequality in organizations
or industries often leads to stress and depression due to the high cost of living and perceived
unfairness. Depressed employees are less productive at work due to their lack of concentration, low
motivation, and antisocial behaviors. It is important for any supervisor to develop appropriate
mechanisms to effectively handle depression in employees.
I would adopt a transformational leadership style in managing activities of the subordinates.
Transformational leadership allows a leader to be in close contact with his/her followers to understand
their fears, aspirations and personal challenges. Employees develop emotional ties and a sense of unity

The Importance of Numbers in Chemistry
In chemistry, numbers are very important in making calculations as well as collecting and recording
data. Because numbers are so prevalent in this field of study, many chemists find it important to use
very precise numbers. Their best way of doing so is through significant figures. The significant figures
for any number are the numbers that carry meaning contributing to that numbers precision. In order
for a number to be significant, it must follow a series of rules. For example, only zeroes that are
between two non zero numbers or zeroes that both are to the right of a decimal and follow a number
greater than zero can be considered significant figures. In addition, any number greater than zero is
considered a significant figure, despite where it is located in a numerical value. These rules that help
clarify the significant figures of a value are just a few of the many rules that pertain to significant
figures. When it comes to calculations, the rules for the number of significant figures a product or
quotient can have, differs from those of the number of significant figures a sum or difference can. In
multiplication and division calculations, the product and quotient are expected to be rounded to the
same number of significant figures as the least precise piece of data in the calculation. In addition and
subtraction, the sum and difference are expected to be rounded to the same number of decimal places
as the least precise piece of data. In any calculation, the significant

In The Dark Side Of Science Book Review

Dr. Douglas feels it is in the scientist of who discovers the work are responsible for future uses. She

also states that is it not perfect as a result of there being people that will always do harm; Dr. Douglas

In 1970 Aston Familyman Barrett and his brother Carlton (bass and drums, respectively) joined the
Wailers. They came to the band unchallenged as Jamaica s HARDEST rhythm section; a reputation
that was to remain undiminished during the following decade. Meanwhile, the band s own reputation
was, at the start of the Seventies, an extraordinary one throughout the Caribbean. However, the band
was still unknown internationally. That was to change in 1972 when the Wailers signed to Island
Records. It was a revolutionary move for an international record company and a reggae band. For the
first time a reggae band had access to the best recording facilities and were treated in the same way as
a rock group. Before the Wailers signed to Island, it was considered that reggae sold only on singles

Pluralist Perspective Case Study
Unitarist Perspective often refers workforce as a team and frequently associated with management.
This implies the idea of organization as a harmonious team or family. It often used the term we in their
mission statement, suggesting that all employees has the same mind and where the organization and
all the members of the staff are sharing a common purpose, emphasizing mutual
cooperation(Naukrihub, 2007). Thus they set a common values, interest and objectives. It practices
paternalistic approach where it requires on all employees loyalty , being primarily managerial in its
emphasis and application.
There are two implication of this perspective, first is that conflict is the result of employees
dissatisfaction and difference with management ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These unions have a right to challenge the employer or management. (Lewis, Thornhill, Saunders,
2003) added that the unions also have the responsibility to seek negotiations. This make certain that
conflict, which in any organizational setting are inevitable, are settle d and the concerned parties are in
good working relationship. However, this form of relationship also brings disadvantages: first, it might
portray power imbalance between parties that have varying interest, aims and aspiration(Rose 2008).
Rose further added the second weakness of pluralism is that it emphasizes more on the support of
efficient, rational and effective management of conflicts within the organization. Hence, according to
(Bray, Waring, Cooper, 2011) the third disadvantage of pluralism is that it is indeterminate and open
minded. This makes a underlying structural resentment that has the ability to result in more conflicts
in both workplace and the labor market. This open mindedness makes a room for more conflicts as
employees have the right to present varied ideas that might not comply to organizational

Advanced training isn t required to implement a simple version of BSC.
Disadvantages of Balanced Scorecard
Balanced Scorecard Performance is subjective, variant quality levels , it cannot be quantified except
by surveys or management opinion. Mandating a rigorous number of training hours per year to meet
an learn and innovate doesn t uniformly mean all employees take courses that help them in their jobs
or that attending classes to fill in the quota is better than working on the assembly line. Demanding
high employee morale can hurt managers, therefore morale is not regularly a manager s purview .
Setting a goal of high morale too layoffs to save money is counter productive.
Balanced Scorecard does not contain Direct financial analysis of economic value or risk management .
Goal choice under Balanced Scorecard does not repeatedly include opportunity cost calculations.
Balanced Scorecard can add a new type of reporting without unquestionably enhancing quality or
financial numbers, it can seem to be an increased set of non value added reporting or, worse, a
distraction from obtaining actual

Tim Good Leadership
Strategic Analysis
Lonnie Ivery American Public University
Introduction
When the leadership of Apple changed from the visionary leader and founder Steve Jobs to Tim Cook
many people viewed the transition with skepticism because of the big shoes that Tim was expected to
fit in. The competition was high especially in the smart phones and watches market where the rate of
innovation from the other competing companies is also high. The creativity of firms like Sam Sung
had threatened to wipe out the legacy of Apple as the leading producer of smart devices.
The Apple stocks had begun declining, and the sales volume for the Apple products had gone down in
the global market. It was the innovative and creative nature of the company that Tim ... Show more

The Suspense In The Sixth Sense Essay
The Suspense In The Sixth Sense
The Sixth Sense is a psychological thriller. It follows a very simple set of conventions that are
associated with all psychological thrillers. The hero or anti hero is always present in psychological
thrillers and is there for the audience to relate to. Vulnerable characters are often depicted as small
children. Children are seen as innocent and un knowing, it is easy for the audience to be aware of what
the children are going through as they were all one once. Suspense is always built up with dramatic
and scary music. Using this convention allows the audience time to realise that something is going to

This convention is particularly important when trying to show suspense. Filmmakers are always very
happy to accept psychological thrillers because they are usually always popular e.g. The Thing,
Scream Trilogy, Alien and Vertical Limit.
The Sixth Sense is a psychological thriller about a young boy who can see ghosts and the doctor who
is helping him. As the movie progresses it is able to show why the doctor is helping the boy and why
the child can see the ghosts. The Sixth Sense was a huge success for a director who had not been
marked as one of particular importance. M. Night Shyamalan had previously only directed short films,
but had started to come into the mainstream with his second feature length film Wide Awake. The
Sixth Sense had a huge box office success all over the world and after being nominated for 6 Academy
Awards, it won two Best Supporting Actor (Haley Joel Osment) and Best Screenplay.
This film is another where Bruce Willis is co starring with a child (previously Mercury Rising). Bruce
Willis was specifically chosen to play the role of Dr. Malcolm Crowe. This is not a role that the

of the main things wrong with American business today. (Walton, S Pg. 9) Walton understood money

  • 4. Schindler s List by Thomas Keneally Essay Schindler s List by Thomas Keneally Thomas Keneally has accomplished his goal with Schindler s List. It beautifully and completely realizes the honest story of a man who was an astounding leader in every respect. This book captures with accuracy and poignancy a part of history that every member of every society must know about and never forget, and to do it in novel form is a sign of Keneally s extraordinary ingenuity. To begin with, Oskar Schindler s embodiment of the leadership characteristics we have discussed in class is evident. Charisma, perhaps our most highly discussed quality, is his trademark. Perhaps we could compare him to another leader, President William Jefferson Clinton, in his exemplification of charisma. Another trait crucial to Schindler s leadership is the ability to shrewdly harness the skills of others. The most obvious example of this ability is his employment of the Jewish accountant Itzhak Stern. Despite the fact that Stern is Jew, Schindler knows he is the best man to help run his business and keep track of his finances and contacts. He immediately recognizes Stern s ability and puts his trust in him. Likewise, Schindler s utilization of Poldek Pfefferberg to connect him to the black market is an equally important union. His trust in Pfefferberg also demonstrates his strong character judgment. Moreover, another apparent manifestation of this quality is Schindler s use of the Jews in his factory. Besides the fact that they were inexpensive, he knew that they would be dependable and efficient. Finally, our leader develops an ongoing partnership with the evil Hauptsturmfuhrer Amon Goeth to get what he needs, his workers. We could similarly compare Schindler s recognition of trustworthy people and sense of opportunity in taking advantage of the skills of others to leaders we have discussed in class like Ross Perot. Perhaps most importantly, compassion is what Schindler may be most remembered for. Despite his image as a shrewd, opportunistic businessman, the entrepreneur ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Arguments Against Abortion Introduction Although, currently legalized, abortion continues to be a burdening ethical issue in America. From 1973 to 2011 approximately 53 million legal abortions were performed in the United States (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Pro Choice supporters hail an abortion is a woman s choice and a protected personal right that should not be limited by governmental or religious authority (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). However, Pro Life supporters contend that a human life begins at the very moment of conception and thus an abortion is the immoral killing of an innocent human being (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Thus, there are various arguments to be considered on both sides. Pro Choice Many contend that in attempting to delegalized abortions the government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pro Life supporters insist that a child is considered a human being at the very moment of conception. Thus, abortion is murder and is unethical because the right to live was stripped from the child. A child can be aborted up to 24 weeks of life and in some states later (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Furthermore, a fetus does feel pain during the abortion procedure because by eight weeks the most primitive response to pain, the spinal reflex, is developed (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Moreover, the psychological affects of an abortion can be overwhelming such as increased depression and anxiety (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). A 2002 peer reviewed study published by the Southern Medical Journal... found that women who aborted were 154% more likely to commit suicide than women who carried to term (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Pro Life supporters believe women must not be able to use an abortion as a means of contraception. If one becomes pregnant, one must be responsible for the child they have brought to the world. Thousands of families desire to adopt children, thus abortion significantly reduces the number of adoptable babies (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). • 7. Compare And Contrast Alka-Seltzer With Hydrochloric Acid The purpose of this experiment was to mix Alka Seltzer with Hydrochloric acid in order to analyze Sodium Bicarbonate as an active ingredient in the Alka Seltzer. The mixture will contain hydrochloric acid to only see the composition of Sodium Bicarbonate in the tablet once it reacts. The amount that reacted allowed us to determine how much of it is present in the tablet. The amount of sodium bicarbonate will be measure by using the ideal gas law PV=nRT. The experiment will be conducted in the lab, therefore we are going to use room temperature which ranges from 15 to 26 degrees celsius. At room temperature pressure ranges from 12.8 to 25.0 millimeters mercury according to its corresponding room temperature. In the ideal gas equation R is 0.08206latm/mol k which is a constant. Once we have those values we can calculates the number of moles that reacted in the mixture by solving for the missing value. With the number of moles we are able to find the mass in grams which is what will potentially tell us the composition of Sodium Bicarbonate in a tablet of Alka Seltzer. Results: There were three different runs in order to have comparable data and to increase the validity of the experiment. The first run gave 39% of Sodium Bicarbonate. The second run gave 34% of Sodium Bicarbonate while the third one gave 39%, which is the same as the first run. The average percentage was 37% which is much lower than the manufacturer s percentage of 59%. The percent error came out to be 37%. Discussion: The manufacturer results shows that Alka Seltzer has 1.9 grams per tablet. In the experiment the results are too small compared to the number that is given by the label. In the first run only .0588 grams reacted to the acid. That suggest that the tablet only contains 0.588 grams of sodium bicarbonate which is very different from the manufacturers. The second run gave an even smaller number of gram. In terms of moles only .0007 reacted in the first and third run and only .0006 in the second run. There are many factor that could had alter the amount of moles that reacted to the acid which affected the result in showing that there is a smaller composition of sodium bicarbonate in the tablet than that of the manufacturer s. Glass Movie Reflection As I watched the movie, I noticed a variety of hints that made me question Glass character and I was a little frustrated that the other characters weren t able to pick up on them. This begins when Glass is talking to Gloria and he says that his piece is going Horrible and moves into a meeting with Amy and Caitlin where he says that they hate his piece, it s the worst thing he s ever wrote , and that he might as well kill himself . This all happening within the first ten minutes of the movie, was causing red flags to pop up in my head, wondering how he could be so self loathing and dramatic without anyone noticing. As the movie progresses, I can see that Glass is using his self loathing to manipulate his coworkers into helping him on his papers, dodging discipline from editors, and averting inquisitiveness away from his pieces. One of the key phrases that I noticed he always used was Did I do something wrong? Are you mad at me? which usually was reverberated with a resilient no . This stressed that he was emotionally manipulating his coworkers in order to get away with his falsified work. All of these actions are what I would consider a flawed person. • 11. The Economy Of The Oil Industry Over the last years, the oil industry practiced its deepest recession since 1990s. That being said, the recovery for this industry finally starts getting better. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries approved to change the production last year, 2016. This arrangement has been holding over to this year, with oil prices increasing for the past several months. But in recent weeks, United States records have been found greater oil prices have been faded. Experts think it will be years before oil returns $100 a barrel, a price that was regular till late 2014. But after the oil price recovered from below $30 in early 2016 to over $50 by the end of the year, there was increasing certainty in the industry that crude oil could rise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is why prices began to decrease. In December 2014 the price went down to $55.48 per barrel. At that point, many people projected that Saudi Arabia and other oil producers will cut back on their own production to changes prices, as they had in the past. Of course that didn t happen. Saudi Arabia decided to increase production in order to keep its market share, hoping that the decrease in oil prices would crush US oil industries, who require higher prices to stay gainful. And that s when things got really interesting. Ever since Saudi Arabia s decision to maintain output in late 2014, prices have kept dropping and reducing. This happened because supply continued strong and demand became weaker than estimated. This shows that US drillers turned out to be far more adaptable to low oil prices than the Saudis thought. As firms cut costs and increased productivity in order to keep the oil flowing . (Oil Prices: What to Make of the Volatility.) In the meantime, major developing economies like China, Russia, and Brazil put a discouragement on the oil industry. An unusually mild winter helped overpower demand for heating oil, and also a stronger dollar means that some countries now have to pay more for crude imports. Car owners in places like the United States, Europe, and Japan are paying less for gasoline, which means they have more money to spend on other things than gas. • 13. Coral Snake Evolution Dr. Cox s main focus is on the forces that initiate the evolutionary pattern of color polymorphism and mimetic coloration using coral snake mimicry as a useful model to study convergent evolution. Coral snake mimicry can be used to show how selection and other evolutionary processes drive powerful phenotypes among populations. Cox s research revolves around the opposition of previous objections to coral snake mimicry to show that several harmless, nonvenomous snakes are mimics of highly venomous snakes. This led to the arise of new questions as to what are the evolutionary forces driving color pattern and how geography shapes genetic and biological diversity within and among species. While the study was conducted using several different snake species, Cox wanted to know the evolutionary forces driving spatial and temporal color pattern in polymorphism in North American ground snakes. His fascination with the North American ground snake was because this particular species showed vivid examples of color polymorphism due to the presence or absence of black cross bands and a dorsal red stripe on the snake. Both of these traits are associated with coral snake mimicry and are color polymorphisms. The presence or absence of these traits make up four different morphs within ... The ideas that bankfull discharge is the most important factor in determining the geomorphic characteristics of the stream, and that bankfull discharge is has a recurrence interval of approximately 1.5 years were tested using field data collected and compared to real time data collected below the confluence of the Jemez and Rio Guadalupe rivers. Gravity is one of the dominant forces acting to move water down slope, and the shear stress (τ), or the resisting force exerted by bed and bank material act as the force opposing down slope movement (Leopold et al., 1964). In order for median sized sediment to become entrained, the bed shear stress (τb) must be greater than the critical shear stress (τc), or the resistance force of the sediment quantified by the Shields number. The streams ability to transport large clasts can be assessed using the Costa entrainment velocity, and the critical value for the deposition of large clasts (τb) that may have been mobilized further up stream can be estimated using the O Connor equation. • 15. The Effect Of Enzyme Concentration On The Rate Of Starch... Monica Saripella Beibei Xin: Thurs @ 5 2/19/14 Lab Report #1 The Effect of α Amylase Concentration on the Rate of Starch Hydrolysis in a Porcine Pancreas Introduction: Our body uses various different types of molecules that work together in order to keep us functioning. One of these molecules is called amylase. Amylase is an enzyme that breaks up the glucose chains in starch into maltose. Enzymes work to speed up a reaction by lowering the activation energy needed for the reaction to occur. There are three different types of amylase: α amylase, β amylase, and γ amylase. α Amylase is commonly found in saliva and pancreas of many animals. In this experiment, we used porcine pancreatic α amylase in order to find the effect of different factors on the rate of the digestion of starch. The activity of α Amylase can be affected by the concentration of amylase, the pH of the environment surrounding amylase, and the temperature that the reaction using amylase occurs in. This indicates that a change in any of these factors can affect the enzyme, increasing or decreasing the rate that the reaction occurs: in the case of amylase it indicates the rate that starch is digested, or maltose is created. All enzymes, α Amylase included, operate best in an optimal range of pH, temperature, and concentration; at these optimal conditions the reaction will occur in the fastest amount of time (Ceska et al., 1969). In particular, this report will focus on the effects of enzyme ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Importance Of African Traditional Medicine Hook. As stated by Helaine Selin, African traditional medicine represents the sum of the people s medicinal knowledge as well as beliefs, skills, and practices used in diagnosing, preventing, or eliminating a physical, mental, or social disequilibrium (Selin 679). Elaborate. Despite British colonization of Nigeria during the 19th and 20th century, the Igbo tribe of Nigeria used various methods of traditional medicine as a prominent practice of medicine throughout history. The Igbo, like many other cultures around the world, have a set tradition to medicine. In fact, For thousands of years a majority of the world s population had used and continues to use the traditional method of healing and medicine. Similarly, the African people have used methods of healing suited to Africa (Osuji 95). This suggests that the Igbo tribe is among the many African tribes to use traditional medicine, as opposed to modern medicine, and they have used it for millennia. In addition, they incorporate multiple aspects of religion into medicine, for their spiritual beliefs act as the core to which their lives revolve. For instance, they refer to spirits as the source of power for common treatments, for spirit forces energize medicine that individuals can conjure and deploy for strength, protection, or to harm enemies (Arinze 4365). In addition, traditional doctors themselves play a major role in connecting patients to the spiritual worlds. As stated by Ali Arazeem Abdullahi, Traditional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. The Little Girl We first hear the word power in our lifetime often when we are children. Usually in a question what is your favorite super power ? Most children answer with abnormal abilities such as flying or invisibility. In its most innocent way power is inherent we think of it as an ability. However as most children grow up they learn that power isn t always on the good guys side. Power is defined as what enables one person to control the behaviors of others . Power turns into a struggle from teacher to student, parents to children, and any other relationship we possess. Children for example need guidance and protection, therefore being a perfect example of the power dynamic legitimate power. Legitimate power can be found within our culture and society from our education system to our own respective family lives. Although many situations are different there is likely someone seen in a position of power based off nothing more than their position in your life. This can be seen in the movie crash where the little girl (Lara) believes and inherently trusts her father (Danial). He has a right of power based on the fact he s her father which allows a level of trust, and feeling of safety for the little girl. Furthermore legitimate power can also be found in work place environments where employer and employee relationship are in continuous power struggles. While there are some that deal with that subject to either a more or lesser extent, the interest of the audience ultimately depends on what events the story line includes and how interesting did they make that specific event. I have decided to deal with 1818, award winning Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. In the beginning of the story, a man name Robert Walton is searching for a passage that connects Russia, the Pacific Ocean, and The Arctic Ocean. Having spent weeks out there alone with his crew, he is shocked to see man nearly frozen to death out there. After rescuing the man, he tells Walton that his name is Victor Frankenstein. Walton frequently writes his sister who lives in England and tells her about Victor s terrible experience. Victor is from Switzerland and had been an extremely, very brilliant child with a strong will to have more knowledge. When Victor went off to University to quench his thirst for knowledge, a brutal illness strikes his adopted sister, Elizabeth, and his mother. Unfortunately, Scarlet Fever takes his mother s life, but Elizabeth survives. At the university, Victor had become the brightest person there, even among the teachers when it came to the subject of science. With a single organization, instead of two or three, it helped keep the focus on the primary goal; there would be no more varying paths. It was basically unified under one leadership. Another reason that this was done was because the Customs and Border Protection was in need of a serious overhaul. Originally the Immigration and Naturalization Service received its roots after the American Civil war. A Short Note On My Performance Improvement Program Essay PE STUDIES INTERNAL Confidence is a key aspect to succeed Confidence Belief in one s own abilities, self trust When going to evaluate the effectiveness of my performance improvement programme I needed to consider the experiences that I found when doing the programme and the trainings. I asked myself when doing this programme like what is required in order to improve my kayaking skill level and is confidence really the key to succeeding in improving my performance. In order to find out this information I needed to be honest and clear in my vision to do this an unbiased judgement is needed in evaluating my progress. A performance improvement programme for me in kayaking is key, due to this sport being relatively new to me having no real experience. It s a good way to introduce me to kayaking because it helps you evaluate new areas of the sport like doing an eskimo roll. A programme like this helps me achieve and evaluate specific goals that are both realistic and achievable over a 6 week course and develop the skills and gain what knowledge is required e.g. hip flicking is the most important aspect in rolling in my opinion. I believe it is important to evaluate yourself at the start of the programme to get a gauge at what type of learning you are at, which in my case it was cognitive stage which is defined as develops the understanding of how to perform the skill. So in appealing to sex, these orchids limit their potential pollinators, which would seem to be a reproductive disadvantage. Despite the apparent drawback, sexual deception has evolved several times in different types of orchids. So there must be some selective advantage, and researchers Salvatore Cozzolino and Giovanni Scopece of the University of Naples Federico II, Steven Johnson of University of KwaZulu Natal (South Africa) and Florian Schiestl of the University of Zürich appear to have figured out what it is. Schiestl and his team observed populations of 31 orchid species with varying pollination strategies in Italy and Western Australia. They measured the amount of pollen that was taken from each orchid, and the amount of pollen that made it to its intended destination another orchid of the same species. They found that populations of sexually deceptive orchids had higher pollen transport efficiency than the species with multiple pollinators. In other words, a higher percentage of the pollen that was taken from sexually deceptive orchids actually made it to another orchid of the same species. The orchids with multiple pollinators had more pollen taken from their flowers, but more of that pollen was lost dropped to the ground or deposited in flowers of the wrong species. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of young boys are stranded on an island where they try to maintain a civilization far away from society. The conch shell that Piggy and Ralph find is used to create a small democracy on the island. It is a symbol of the civilization on the island, the order that the boys have, and the power that a single person can possess. It represents how much of a connection they have to society, and the degree of civilization that still remains. The conch is an important part of their survival because without the conch, the boys can no longer live in harmony with one another and will eventually destroy each other. Without order and civilization, the island cannot be called a society. They can no longer hold themselves together, and have a higher chance of destruction. Over time, the boys begin to lose sight of civilization. When the conch is finally destroyed, the order between them is destroyed as well. The conch shell symbolizes the boys civilization, order, and power. At the beginning of the story, the conch is emphasized as a symbol of order, as that is the first idea that comes up when an assembly is established. • 35. Leadership In Julius Caesar What does leadership mean to someone? For most, it s how someone can make an impact. There are many important aspects of being a leader. The power of a great leader starts with the right mindset and willingness to accomplish what needs to be accomplished. One that is always a couple steps ahead and is there to look out for others. In William Shakespeare s famous play, Julius Caesar, few characters happen to have to right amount of potential to become a leader of Rome. With the death of the ruler Julius Caesar, two counter viewing characters gave a speech about Caesar which caused different reactions. One character in particular, Mark Antony, sticks out due to his great use of language and how he created an impact on Rome s people. Marcus Brutus on the other hand, also attempted to influence the people, but his inability to be more persuasive than Antony is what caused him to receive the more negative feedback. Brutus indeed spoke logically, but Antony would happen to make a better candidate as a leader because he spoke to the emotions of the people and knew what was right. Mark Antony qualifies as a superior leader because of his ability to connect with the people and by proving his loyalty. He is a solemn, confident, and persuasive man which are key reasons why he would make an outstanding ruler. In Julius Caesar, his confidence often shows. The threefold world divided, he should stand / One of the three to share it, (IV.i.14 15). Antony questioned whether or not Lepidus would be fitting to rule a third of the world. Antony would take one half, Octavius the other half and they would rule because he believed Lepidus was not capable. Antony s confidence shows his capability of being a leader. Relating back to the speech given at Caesar s funeral, Brutus gave a logical speech compared to Antony s persuasiveness which made the people have a different feedback and overall different impact on who they believed was more trustworthy. Along with Antony s confidence, his nobility towards others would have made him a great leader. His nobility was for Julius Caesar especially, who he was very close to. • 37. The Importance of Numbers in Chemistry In chemistry, numbers are very important in making calculations as well as collecting and recording data. Because numbers are so prevalent in this field of study, many chemists find it important to use very precise numbers. Their best way of doing so is through significant figures. The significant figures for any number are the numbers that carry meaning contributing to that numbers precision. In order for a number to be significant, it must follow a series of rules. For example, only zeroes that are between two non zero numbers or zeroes that both are to the right of a decimal and follow a number greater than zero can be considered significant figures. In addition, any number greater than zero is considered a significant figure, despite where it is located in a numerical value. These rules that help clarify the significant figures of a value are just a few of the many rules that pertain to significant figures. When it comes to calculations, the rules for the number of significant figures a product or quotient can have, differs from those of the number of significant figures a sum or difference can. In multiplication and division calculations, the product and quotient are expected to be rounded to the same number of significant figures as the least precise piece of data in the calculation.
